Review Khun Pun Thai Restaurant - Albany

Butch Jaca Rafols
Dine-in reserved seats near the windows was excellent. Recommended dishes ordered were tasty and the unlimited rice was a bonus. Service was quick and staff were accommodating and friendly. Would be back for more menu offerings.

Consistently a great experience. I dine here often and every time, the food is tasty and freshly prepared. The restaurant is very clean and well designed, with an inviting, warm aesthetic and sensible seating layout. Impressive wine list and drink menu, as well as daily specials. A la carte menu style but still reasonably priced for the portions and quality of food. Try the Garlic and Pepper Scallops main — it’s a personal favorite. I also really enjoy the Chicken Satay entree. I will definitely be back.

very authentic Thai food. Curry is recommended, with a strong coconut milk flavor

Absolutely amazing food, and great service considering how busy it was! Atmosphere was relaxed. Nice and clean environment. We had. Pad see ew, Tom kha Gai, roasted duck in ginger. All amazing! Definitely recommend
Alexander
An honest price, great service and a relaxed atmosphere. We’ve been coming here for years.

We've been coming here since it opened (dine in and take out). We've been here for dinner four times in the past month and looking forward to it again next week. Enough said! The best Thai in Auckland (probably NZ). Book now.
Alex Forrester
This little takeaway deserves 6 out of 5 stars for its food. From the outside I was not expecting the delicious Thai meal I received. Hands down better than any Auckland Thai takeaway meals I've had lately. Lucky Kaitia!

Fantastic! Good food! Good choices! Good service! Friendly efficient staff! Good atmosphere! Clean, modern, great website with menus and prices! Loved it! 😃

Last week 8 of us. Amazing food as always. Top service. We always come back here. Never let down. Seafood dishes and spring rolls out of this world. Thank you

Absolute delight in the mouth. The highlight was the pad thai Overall great experience. Service was great with the ladies. Super friendly and accommodating. Just one critique, is that the first staff that went to our table, he wasn’t really interested in explaining the menu when asked. Would watch out for that. Other than that, great!

Great experience as always tonight. 6 of us, all enjoyed the meal and ambiance. Khun Pun continues to be a family favorite as it has been for many years.

Had dinner at this restaurant last night with my friends, and it was great! Food was amazing, service is very efficient and friendly too! I am sure to see this restaurant again soon! :))
Monique Harding
Lovely restaurant with a great selection of food including Vegetarian and Vegan options. Very clean, fast service and delivery of food to the table.

I can't believe I never tried tried this place before. Its one of the best thai food I've had. The taste and quality was top class and the ambience is very cool. Its perfect for a date night as well. Will definitely go back.

I often come here with friends for lunch and dinner... Always most enjoyable... great food and service... No complaints at all...

Great evening, I'm still not used to paying extra for rice or noodles though. Pricey, but great quality, great service.
Amy
This was my first time at this restaurant. Food were great. I will go back again.

Everything was delicious!

Previously had a not so great experience with Khun Pun, they were really good to address my concerns and this time everything was awesome, great tasting and happy as. Thanks
Chantal
Highly recommend

Noticed other reviews about staff, we were seated by an unfriendly staff (who just pointed to a table), but other staff who took our order etc were great. <br/>Tom yum gong was watery , worse than instant soups!<br/>Cashew chicken was great with rice, green curry was also delicious. <br/>Wouldn’t have the appetizer platter again, all the items were very oily (satay was nice though)
Asianfoodie
A nice place that is reasonably quiet despite it being full. I would recommend the chicken pad thai and the spring rolls. I personally felt like the menus were slightly overpriced with a delay in service.
Kathleen
Really really really bad service, the lady who served us used her angry face and impatient attitude all the time... We saw the Zomato grade of this restaurant was quite high so decided to come, but didn’t enjoy at all and the food is average, nothing surprised us.
Janet
Amazing customer service and food! Love eating here!
Tasteful Seconds By Kyrsta Lynn
I have been here on two occasions to take away. The first time I got the Pad Thai and the second time we ordered the Nasi Goreng. I prefer the Pad Thai to the Nasi Goreng personally. A big thing to note about this restaurant though was their serving sizes. For what you pay you to get a GREAT serving size. Especially with take away. I feel like I keep eating and the pile of food just never gets any smaller. The Pad Thai was delicious as well and probably one of my favorite Pad Thai's I have had thus far.

The most popular Thai restaurant amog Albany I guess. Always packed whenever I come to dine. Food is pretty good but service is quite slow because there are not enough staff while the restaurant is always busy. If I feel lazy to drive to city, this place is always the first choice in my head :)
Shaun Ross
Service is everything and the staff were outstanding! The food was just as good!! Thai food in nz usually lacks flavor. This was a rare exception, tons of taste and unique spice! Must try

Had purchased a few different meals take away including a Tom Yum Soup. When we got home and went to pull the paper bag out of the car the bottom of it came away and all our meals went all over the driveway. The lid had not been securely put on the Tom yum soup so it had leaked meaning the bottom of the bag was weak and could hold its contents which we didn’t realise until we went to remove it from the car. We were super disappointed as two out of the three meals were unable to be eaten after the ended up on the driveway. We quickly rang them to let them know and they said the next time you order there will be a discount to compensate. Tonight when we went to order no one seemed to know anything about this which is super disappointing and poor customer service so we won’t be ordering from Khun Pun again unfortunately:(

I don't like they used frozen veggies on their curry. Although the ambience is nice , service is quite good but the food is just to standard. Not recommended.

My husband took me out for dinner to make my day, as I was 9 months pregnant, was craving something yummy!<br/><br/>We chose this place and it made our evening! We ordered Tom Yum Soup with Prawns, Duck Thai Curry with Pineapple and Red Thai Curry with Chicken.<br/>My husband also ordered some shot of wine.<br/><br/>The food was delicious, the ambiance was perfect and on top of all that the service provided by Nina was amazing. We had great time discussing the menu with her. She was very helpful.<br/><br/>We have been here before but this time was even better. This made our evening better than we thought.<br/><br/>Thanks Nina!

We went Last Thursday to celebrate our daughter 40th Birthday.  We left it to Khun Pun to organise the menu and we did not disappointed.  From the assorted mixed entrees to the last Chocolate Cheesecake desserts and everything in-between. We had Pad Tom Yum Seafoods, Scallop Cashew nuts, Pad Thai Prawns, Curry Roast Duck, Spicy Pork, Beef on Sizzling Hot plate & Chicken with Peanut Sauce on Vegs.  Everything was nice but if I have to pick one favourite for me it was the Curry Roast Duck.  The service was very attentive and the staff were very friendly, highly recommended.  (I was too busy talking and eating and forgot to take the pictures so only have the beginning and the end)

I was really craving Tom Yum Goong and was a bit surprised to discover that they did not have a basic dish that served it with rice or noodles. So I ended up ordering a Tom Yum Goong Soup with extra noodles on the side. This however, really brought the flavour down a bit. My friend ordered a Pad See Ew and Curry Puffs. The first lady that served us was very friendly and warm however my friend and I were both shocked when we encountered the second lady when we were paying due to the stark contrast. She was rather cold and didn’t really bother to even look at us.
Bella Luv Food
The portion is good and the Pineapple fried rice was quite tasty. The chicken curry is moderate. However nothing much putting on plate presentation and house decoration. The price was quite high comparing to other options around. If you looking for some thai food in the area and don’t want to travel too far, this is a good option.

Went here for the first time for my partner's birthday dinner and it was great. The place was nicely decorated and not overcrowded with tables like other Thai restaurants I've been to.<br/><br/>I ordered the roast duck curry and it was beautiful. My partner ordered the sweet and sour pork, I rarely ever like this dish but from here it was great and my partner loved it too.<br/><br/>Will definitely be coming back!

Beautiful atmosphere and great staff. Handy location with loads of parking space. Place to be for any occasion. Food is always good, and not too long a wait.. Lots to choose from on the menu.

We love this place. So our company always organises Team dinners here. They always give us a spacious place to sit and the service is always good. <br/>Their Mixed Entree is lovely and so fresh and served hot. <br/>This is one of my fav places in Albany for Thai food.<br/>Their Red Curry Thai paste story fry is delicious. I love vegetables so this curry has a perfect amount of veggies and meat. So well balanced.<br/>Their laksa, green curry and pad Thai is also very authentic.<br/>Would definite recommend this place.<br/>Their portions are really good that I always end up doing a Takeaway for the next day.<br/>Pricing is also affordable.<br/><br/>

The food was as described in the menu. The reason for 2 stars is the price was just too much. The meal was no different to going to an Asian food court. We ordered a large range of meals as was a big party. It was okay.

Really great fast service! Food is amazing, came out hot and quickly. Would 100% come here again.<br/><br/>Highly recommend this place! Amazing service and food
Kelly
Decided to dine here after craving some Thai food!<br/><br/> In terms of the flavours it wasn’t the Thai dishes that I was used too, the pad Thai was a little tasteless in my opinion and the satay chicken didn’t have that peanutty kick although it looked good. Tom kha Palay was good though, flavourful and okay servings of seafood. <br/><br/>I wouldn’t be back for more, only because I know where to go to get the Thai food that I’m used too. Staff were attentive and our dishes came out promptly. <br/>

Ordered the day’s special pork belly and it was sooooooo sweet!! I know Thai food are always a bit sweet but this was really too much! Tried the roast duck curry too nothing too special. Overall a bit disappointed especially reading so many good reviews I was expecting something better.
Jordan Collins
We get takeaways from here often and when we collect them it is always packed in the restaurant which is a good sign! All the food is delicious! Would recommend for sure.
Sophia
Unfortunately, standards have dropped at this place. The service could have been better as it was a major let down when one waitress was protraying service bias and was just rude.<br/><br/>Thailand food is flavourful but we when we ordered the tom yum soup, it was quite blunt and also had noodles on the side which was undercooked. <br/><br/>Doubt for a second visit.
Brizzle
Best Thai food on the North Shore I have ever tasted!<br/>Pad Thai, delicious! Penang Curry, delicious! Beef with cashews, delicious!<br/>This will be my Thai go to from now on :)<br/><br/>Update.... been back here 3 times after the above review, still consistent and still delicious! <br/><br/>They could add a bit more whisky to my glass though 😉
Bright One
The place has changed in a bad way since last year. It's a shame because it used to be good.  Our food came out too quick and the hot dishes we ordered actually were cold. We'll never go back again!
Amanda
I wouldn't be giving this rating if it wasn't for the service - one waitress in particular was considerably rude just because we were a big group. Every response that came from her was a short and unfriendly. <br/><br/>I have worked at a restaurant before and I can understand how difficult big groups can be to manage, but she made me feel like I was pain to serve.<br/><br/>Food was good though!
Tracey Senf
Usually one of our favourites ! Last night left us sooo very dissatisfied and disappointed and sick .. was so looking forward to it too ! Entree tasted fine our mains did not , we got takeaways

Great food as always. 5 out of 5<br/>We ordered Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng.<br/>This was my first time visiting here for dinner and I was very impressed.<br/>The staff service was great in general as well.<br/>Our glasses were filled with water on a regular basis and we were frequently asked if our meals are ok.<br/><br/>While I would rate this restaurant 5/5 for the food, I was disappointed by one of the staff in particular.<br/>The waitress that served us (shortcut and stocky) never smiled nor made eye contact with us.<br/>When we ordered coke, she simply just dropped the glass and the coke can on the table and rudely drifted off. <br/><br/>Now I'm not after a conversation. <br/>I've worked at a restaurant as a server when I was a university student and I understand how stressful the job can be.<br/>However as an Asian I felt discriminated because when this waitress was serving the other European customers she would smile and make an effort by saying 'hi' in Thai and etc.<br/><br/>This was an interesting experience because this never happened when I visited the restaurant wearing my suit during lunch time on multiple occasions. <br/><br/>I guess I'll wear a suit next time because the food here really is that good.<br/>I sincerely hope this doesn't happen again.

Excellent food and service. Very freshly ingredients used . Warming hospitality. Will be my fav Thai restaurant in North Shore . Thanks you guys .

Very tasty food, lovely staff, fast and efficient service, definitely a top pick if your after a Thai restaurant for dinner and not too expensive

This is one of my favourite Thai restaurants and I always recommend it. Last night however I was very disappointed with the food. I ordered my usual dish and it tasted nothing like it normally does. The flavours that normally shine in the dish were not there and it honestly just tasted like a stock gravy with a burn. It was busy last night so the service was also much slower than usual which was a  pitty.

Was nice for lunch the serving size was not too big but not too small. Pricing was a typical lunch size. The food came out fast which was great for s limited time frame

▪️One of the best Thai spots on the North Shore <br/>▪️Amazing food <br/>▪️Lovely service <br/>▪️Great for date nights<br/><br/>The word extensive doesn't even cut it for how insane Khun Phun's menu is, like holy wow there are sooo many options and most well priced too. I wanna try them aaall hahaha. Especially the seafood! There are more and more beautiful Thai restaurants popping up in the Albany area and Kuhn Phun is one of them! It makes me so happy coz I looove Thai! <br/><br/>First off, there is plenty of parking even on a Friday night which is great. Upon walking in, you are immediately greeted with warm and friendly faces so within seconds you get a taste of Khun Phun's cosy and cordial vibe. <br/><br/>It's spacey enough for anything from a one-on-one to a gathering. There was nothing to fault about any of our dishes we ordered on the night, other than maybe needing more veges to balance out the heavy spices. The meat was so tender and the flavours weren't too overwhelming! I definitely recommend making bookings before arriving coz these guys get packed! The decor is real modern and sleek so doesn't look too authentic or anything but trust me, their food will make up for it! I can't wait to come back!

This restaurant looks as though it has had a change of kitchen staff and possible ownership.  The meal we had last week was not good with hardly any spices and it appeared to be Chinese style Thai rather than authentic Thai food.  We ordered fried rice, panang curry and chicken with cashew nuts.  Food was slopped on the plate, not well presented and tasted very oily.  It is a shame as this restaurant has always had a very high standard.

Not too bad, first time eating Thai. Full of spicy flavour i had two dishes entree and a main both good dishes. Entree was nice My main was a on the sweet side but i guess its how its made. Not too much of a complaint from me.<br/> If you have your birthday there prepare for the HBD song to blast out of the speakers making your table the centre of attention. My girlfriend had her birthday there & everyone in the restaurant sang, hipped, hoorayed, hollered and clapped awesome atmosphere!!<br/>Robyn Atley

Went in for dinner tonight, totally unplanned and spirit of the moment as a friend in the car said <br/>" I know a good Thai place "<br/><br/>Ambience: 4/5 nice and clean <br/>Perfect lighting and decor and a warm feel.<br/><br/>Staff: 5/5 friendly, welcoming and also attentive<br/>With topping up our water and asking if we needed more rice etc.<br/><br/>Food: 1.5/5 <br/><br/>As shown in the picture <br/>I ordered the holy basil tofu <br/><br/>The rice was luke warm when served <br/>(The plate it was dished on was hotter)<br/><br/>The basil tofu itself was like something you'd <br/>Pull out of the fridge as a left over <br/>And throw into a frying pan and rehydrate with a splash of water and some spices <br/><br/>Dry, tasteless, overall a sad looking dish as you can see. <br/><br/>I've had holy basil tofu at least 5-6 times <br/>At other places <br/><br/>And sad to say this was the worst.<br/><br/>My friends also ordered a couple of chicken dishes which they said were ok but nothing to rave about. <br/><br/>Won't be returning in a hurry.<br/><br/>Which is kinda stink cause everything else<br/>Was up to par, except the food and I mean <br/>If the foods no good why head out to eat at all?<br/><br/>

When fresh ingredients meet the skill of expert chef, what you will get is undoubtedly a great dish. One of their many advantages would be thet open til late..!!
Sara Ellis-Jack
We came here for a team lunch with work. The food was really good, but the service was really average. We were the last people in the resteraunt to be served, after 2 big groups of people (we were a group of 4). So I would go again, but would hope to have better service!
Kelly
We were quickly seated and promptly served. I kid you not, all the food came out within ten minutes. Bloody impressive!<br/><br/>Their Panang curry wasn’t too bad with plenty of veggies to munch away at. Sadly, the Pad-see-ew noodles were quite salty and the beef was far too well-cooked. We also ordered tom yum goong. It was ok but nothing special. In general, the food is too salty. <br/><br/>As for the service, I was a bit gobsmacked with the sass of the waitress, but quickly realised it was her quirky sense of humour. It turns out that the staff are very friendly. <br/><br/>Overall, not bad. It was quite an enjoyable experience, and I was happy they had some Thai beer!

Hard to find a decent Thai on the shore. Visit this regularly and never fails! Awesome service and great food, try the specials as they are always yum!

Went in a big group around 14 people. Nice spacious place ... food wise starters were disappointing. ... money bags looked empty .... satay stick were dry .... and deep fried .. main course was average ... there was no wow factor in any of the food ... as a compensation they did not charge us for the satay sticks which was good
Yash Lal
Here on a Monday night with a rather large group we came here.Food wasn't very good...Chicken was rather dry and flavourless. Especially the chicken satay was dry. Service was below average. Not a good experience at khun pun restaurant.
Lynnette Martin
Service great, but food awful.  This used to be a favourite place to go as the food was great but I don't know if it has changed hands or what but now the food is awful.  My friend ordered a meal that was not meant to be hot and it was more like a medium so she couldn't eat it.  Then she ordered a BBQ chicken as that has no heat and it was more like a casserole!  My duck was too hot and peppery to eat even though the waitress said it was a medium.  The meals didn't even taste good.  So disappointed.
Monique
I got take-away from here for the first time on Saturday night.  I was really impressed.  It was all so flavoursome. I have tried most of the Thai in Albany and this is by far the best in my opinion.  I will definitely be back.
Shaz
Went there for dinner last night and was very disappointed. Meals are normally very consistent with lots of fresh seasonal veggies. When the meals came out mine was a lot smaller in size than normal and had two limp pieces of broccoli and stewed packet vegetables(mixed beans peas and carrot what you buy in bag from a supermarket freezer department) the other person with me when there meal came I commented that there was a lot of water seeping from under the sauce and they also had a large helping of stewed over cooked mixed packet beans carrot and peas Not what I expect from a restaurant. When I complained to the waiter she said we are trying something new. The cashier said they had run out of vegetables that's why. Within a couple of hundred metres of restaurant were two supermarkets that sell fresh vegetables that could have been used. A very disappointing experience. Only positive was the sauces over the meats we're flavoursome
ChoMpR
Service good, nice decor however Value for money, not good. People's, save ur $$ n just go to the food court pls. Chicken bland, frozen mixed veges in the curry. Cmon. Entree was $8.50 for 4x fish cakes, says minced but more like rubber patties, only had half of one, nice dipping sauce, that bout it. Paid $22 for the curry roti main, only got one Roti! Portion sizes no different to lunch menu just more expensive. WTF! Disappointed big time. Better at ANY food court. Bummed. Never going back.
Foodie Chronicles
It can be pretty hard to find a good thai restaurant in NZ sometimes but this is a good one! Food was really tasty, with good portion sizes, and the staff were really attentive despite it being a busy night.
Michelle S
The chicken pad thai here is amazing! It's a must try if you love your thai classic dish! I would recommend not eating in as you have to pay $4 per meal for their service. When I get my pad thai to takeaway it only costs me $15 vs $19 if I was to dine in the restaurant. Also if you come here in a big group, be prepared to wait a long time. We came here for my mums birthday and we had to wait 45 mins - 1 hour for our meals to come. It was more stressful because my grandma was with us and she's diabetic so at that point she was starving. The staff is super nice and accommodating. I recommend the <br/>Chicken pad thai<br/>Basil chicken - For spicy lovers <br/>Mee goreng - Perfect blend of spices coming through Sweet and sour chicken - Healthier because not deep fried <br/>Satay chicken - Can't ever go wrong with Satay
Jessica
I'm not a huge fan of Thai food, but one of my good friends loves this place so she is always keen to go here. I am pretty boring and get the same thing which is the pad Thai It's a pretty good pad Thai though. Huge servings and staff are always friendly. If you love Thai food, give this place a try.
Charlie Lin
My family (5) recently visited for a belated Father's Day. We ordered off both the set menu as well as a la carte. The service, food, and dinner environment were all top notch. Would gladly return!
Caitlin
Khun Pun has been my family's go to for a long time now. Every gathering, special occasion we go here. Prices are reasonable and servings are generous. However I feel like today my food was a little bland and I worry that service is going downhill. <br/>Really good Thai and fresh food, hope today was a once off bad experience
Jyothi Madanlal Chhabria
been here twice. food is pretty average. The stir fries are a bit oily. They have a roti and chicken curry on the menu but use frozen roti.<br/>Their Brownie is a bit dry
Denise
Went here last Tuesday night with a few friends from work. We ordered a dish each; satay beef, seafood, chicken curry, chicken banana curry, a noddle dish and a beef and ginger dish and shared them in the middle of the table. All came out freshly cooked and tasted great. Finished off with the chocolate cheesecake and banana fritter - all tasted really good and will be going back again.
Danielle
Just ordered a takeaway red curry and got home to find the coconut milk had curdled. Really disappointed as surely they would have seen that before they gave it me!
Disha
Went for a office lunch with work mates. Was really hungry but thankfully we head pre ordered so our food was ready. Everything smelt and tasted really great, my order was spicy chicken in red paste unfortunately I was little underwhelmed by it. But overall the prices are just about right. The chocolate cheesecake made my day, it was delicious and everyone else ordered it looking at my plate. Satisfied with the lunch experience.
Kerryj
Came here for lunch based on all the great reviews. Our first impressions were good, the restaurant is modern looking, the tables for two have plenty of space and the staff wear sunny yellow aprons. The service couldn't be faulted, the staff are efficient at refilling our water glasses.<br/><br/>The lunch menu is quite extensive - my son ordered spring rolls for a shared starter and Panang beef with rice (Thai red curry paste beef), I ordered Pra Ram Long Song Gai with rice (chicken with Thai peanut sauce).<br/><br/>The spring rolls were crisp, looked beautiful though tasted a bit bland. I only ate one. Our main orders arrived and for some reason my son received a chicken green curry, I didn't realise till later on that it wasn't what he ordered. My dish was overseasoned, too sweet and too salty. I also didn't appreciate that I only had a fork and spoon, as the chicken was cut in quite large slices which made it a little awkward to eat. <br/><br/>So overall we weren't impressed with the food and my son was disappointed that he didn't get his beef dish.
Faisal Hassan
Lovely atmosphere, excellent and courteous service laced with fragrant and flavoursome food. This is a winning combination that many restaurants in Auckland lack. Keep it up
Sarah Viatos
Just moved to the area and was trying to find a good Thai place. The restaurant looked good but when we gone home to eat our takeaways they were very disappointing. Sauces were bland and watery and the dishes were average. Iv eaten at many Thai places and I don't think I will go back to this place. Such a shame
Ros Bisset
Had a fantastic meal here - the food was really good and the service more than excellent - I visited here with Rowena and Sian Corlett and friends and we had a lovely foody evening!

Amazing service! Greeted by a smile and shown to our table. Amazing food! The meat was so nice and juicy and it tasted great. The waiter was very friendly :) Would definitely come back here again, highly recommend!

The best thai on the northshore, maybe auckland. Been going there for 2 years, never disapointed! Very good service, great selection and variety of food highly reccomended!
Samantha Reeve
This is by far the best Thai restaurant on the Shore! I am a regular here for both dining in and takeaway food and it has always been amazing food. I came here a few months ago with a work group and we were waited on promptly, with all the food arriving in a quick manner considering how large a group we were. I can highly recommend this restaurant and anything on their menu (however the chicken pad thai is a personal favourite), as I have never had a bad meal and my work colleagues who are quite fussy, thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I will definitely never go to another Thai restaurant in Auckland. Thanks Khun Pun for your consistently amazing service and awesome takeaways!
KELBEAN25
Arrived and was seated after a short 2 min wait. The restaurant was really busy so not being seated straight away was fair enough. Our order was taken promptly but I did not feel rushed. We ordered Fish Cakes and Squid for entree to share. The fish cakes were absolutely amazing! The best i have had. Juicy and full of flavour! The squid was nice but I didn't like the mayonnaise that came on the side. It had a real eggy flavour, could have done without it on the plate. We ordered 2 mains to share. A ginger pork stir fry dish and a chicken stir fry dish (I cant remember exactly what they were) both were amazing. Also so full of flavour, really authentic and the best bit was that the vegetables were still crunchy. The dishes are not what you would call cheap but worth every cent. The service is friendly and efficient. Added bonus is that this restaurant is BYO. I love this place and will definitely be returning.
MelissaLosesItBlog
This is local to my work and I have visited many times now. I have always gone at lunchtime but it is usually quite busy. This doesn't impact on the service and it always goes smoothly regardless of how busy they are. One of the great things about their lunchtime service is they have an express lunch menu which is priced mainly at $10.50 per dish. The food is always fresh and cooked well. Everything I've had here has been good and since I don't eat much they are always happy to package up the leftovers for me to take with me.

I love this place.Awesome thai food, great customer service ftom staff, value for money for everything in this place. Wine selection are good as well.

Average food. Poor service. <br/><br/>First impression is of a nice, well presented, reasonably classy restaurant.<br/><br/>We arrived at 7.15 and didn't receive our food until 8.15. I have never seen so many people in 1 restaurant with no food on their tables.<br/><br/>I ordered 3 mains for me and my partner.<br/><br/>-Thai Green Curry, very average, basically just sauce and chicken with very little vegetables.<br/><br/>-Whole snapper (garlic), presentation looked amazing however the taste was no better than average. Wasn't bad. Wasn't good.<br/><br/>-BBQ Half chicken, ??? WTF ??? Doesn't even look like a half chicken. Looks more like someone shoved a pile of shredded chicken from pak'n'save in a bed of tin foil???? This was definitely the most disappointing. It was dry, unattractive and tasted more Smokey rather than BBQ.<br/><br/>I will definitely not be going back.
A Tale Of Two Tummies
Food ordered:<br/>Salt & Pepper Squid<br/>Pad Tom Yum Talay<br/><br/>Bill: $31<br/><br/>I got taken to Khun Pun for a staff lunch, so sadly my girlfriend didn't get to join me on this adventure. I ordered the salt & pepper squid for an entree, which was perfect for just that. The portion wasn't huge, but the squid tasted amazing (even if I do have a sneaky suspicion that it is the same pre-packaged calamari that they offer in Gold Class cinemas) with a delicious sauce that complimented the dish perfectly. The real star was the Pad Tom Yum Talay though. It sounded amazing on the menu and when it rocked up on the table, it certainly didn't disappoint. It looked absolutely delicious, with a number of my colleagues wishing they had ordered one, and the seafood throughout the dish was very generously portioned. The sauce was a wonderful blend of sweet, sour and spiciness, with all the seafood cooked to absolute perfection. The dish also came with a bowl of rice, which was a pleasant surprise since I had forgotten to order some. The only problem was that the dish was so good, you kind of wished there was more. All in all, the food itself was outstanding (if a little over-priced if I'm bluntly honest). As for the service, the waitresses were friendly and helpful, though we did have to wait for quite a significant period of time to place our order and again for the food to arrive (approx 45 min from arriving to having the entrees served). We were a table of 12 though, so I'm somewhat understanding there. I'd happily come back to Khun Pun and try their other dishes.
Carly Hanna
Delicious thai cuisine and perfect restaurant for a group gathering! The staff is really friendly and the chefs were very approachable with dietary requirements. I ordered the Hot Basil Tofu from the vegetarian menu (without the fish sauce to make it vegan) and it was soooo yum! Perfect serving size for me because I managed to devour the whole plate, as well as all the rice without being uncomfortably full. The photo doesn't do the dish justice, especially when I just managed to get a pic in when I was almost finished my meal! Overall would definitely love to come back here again and recommend others to come here too :)
Auckland Food Tours
This is a very popular restaurant in Albany, and we went with a large group so I was able to try multiple dishes.<br/>The cuisine is quite 'westernized' in that it is flavorsome and tasty but for me lacked the complexity that Thai food should have. Sweet is the overiding taste sense rather than the balance of sour, sweet, salty, bitter, and spicy that is the hallmark of Thai cooking.<br/>Having said that its a good place for people to go to have a 'soft' introduction to Thai food, nothing too extreme, also very suitable for large groups, or family's with children.

Khun Pun Thai pleasantly surprised me. Most of the Asian cuisine that I try in New Zealand is under flavoured or under seasoned which is SO disappointing!! It's almost always a hit and miss lacking a simple element that gives it that WOW factor. But Khun Pun Thai put up a fight and delivered.<br/><br/>Our entree was a prawn and cheese filled golden pastry PARTY IN OUR MOUTHS! It arrived and the middle of the pastries were cold but one of the lovely waitresses replaced it with no hassle. My partner ordered the green chicken curry. I thought it was bland where as my partner thought it was amazing. The green curry was overpowered by too much coconut milk making it taste like a sweet broth. It lacked a kick and needed a touch of salt. My lean pork dish marinated in a special sweet and sour sauce was delicious! The meat was so tender. I loved the layers of different flavours that unravelled in my mouth after each bite. Highly recommend this dish!<br/><br/>I'd definitely come back as it is one of the better Thai restaurants I've experienced in Auckland - closest thing to authentic Thai I've eaten since I came back from my Thailand trip in June!

I organised a banquet menu for a group of 18 friends to dine at Khun Pun Thai Restaurant, Albany.  What an incredible 3 course meal we all enjoyed at a very reasonable cost.  The ambience of the Restaurant is stunning, the service and friendliness from the owner and all the staff was incredible.  Very efficient service and an amazing evening spent together at this restaurant.  The food is beautifully presented and the flavours of every dish we tried were amazing and true authentic Thai food. Our group dine out regularly and agree that Khun Pun Thai Restaurant is THE BEST PLACE TO DINE IN AUCKLAND and  highly recommend you try it.  My husband and I have been regular customers of this fabulous Restaurant ever since it opened always taking friends along with out of town visitors there to dine and have never ever been disappointed with our meals.  Thank you to management and all your fabulous staff, always a truly amazing experience to dine in your Restaurant. Llanore and Dave Kale

One of the best Thai dining that i've experienced in Auckland so far. I really enjoyed their Pad Thai and the Mon Thong? Appetizer (cant remember the name).

We came here as a group of 6 based on good reviews. To be honest I didn't enjoy it much. It was not awful but it was really average. We ordered a range of dishes which included Red duck curry, massamam beef, paenang chicken, chicken cashew nut, and black pepper beef stirfry. <br/>While nothing was bad nothing stood out either. I really thought that all the curries tasted the same. If I was blindfolded and taste tested each sauce without the meat I would have never known the difference. Just a bit bland for my taste. If our friends would like to go again I would go but I will brace myself for a very very mild and bland meal.

The BEST Thai food, amazing selection, attentive helpful staff, very generous servings at a reasonable price, all in a very pleasant and ambient restaurant.  Couldn't go wrong here. Very popular and got busy very quickly.  Also had takeaways available that was doing a roaring trade. Highly recommended...

Our favourite Thai restaurant on the shore by far! The food is so fresh and flavoursome and beautifully presented. It tastes like authentic Thai, unlike many other restaurants. We visited for dinner last weekend and were blown away by the revamped decor! You can tell this place is great as it is always packed! Takeaways are super cheap as well and always come out quickly. #1 recommendation would be the hot basil beef or duck - super spicy and full of yummy Thai basil!

Really good food and really good service. I got the yellow curry for my main and mixed entree for my entree. The restaurant isn't over tacified like most restaurants of this type. Prices were pretty standard to other Thai restaurants. Would go back again without hesitation.

Pra Ram Long Song Gai (Satay chicken with rice and vegetables) is my favorite lunch item here. Great place with quality service and good ambiance. The waiters are attentive and helpful, and the chef cooks exactly like we asked. I always ask for extra spicy, and he makes it tasty as well unlike other restaurants who just add peppers or chili powder. Highly recommended.

We are blessed with some very good Thai restaurants in the Albany area and the Khun Pun is among the best. We dined there last night, having not been for some time, and were interested to see if the quality was the same as we remembered. It was. The staff were all charming and welcoming, and quietly attentive, and the service was prompt.<br/> We shared starters of the Mixed entree and the Vegetable tempura - all delicious, generous servings, and whetted our appetites for what was to follow - which was Pad Thai Goong, Gai Kha Ta (sizzling chicken and veges) and Pork Lemongrass, all accompanied by rice and rotis.  The Pad Thai, an old favourite, did not disappoint, and the king prawns were large and juicy. The crispy chicken was succulent and tasty, with a good mix of fresh vegetables. The lemongrass pork with red curry sauce was the standout, with a good chilli bite and strong lemongrass flavours. The servings were all large, and we ate far too much.  We certainly won't leave it so long before our next visit.

Nice restaurant but I think this place is overrated and not very authentic. Really sweet red curry with no spice at all and extremely bland tom yam soup.

Once again had some great food. Four of us went to Khun Pun on Friday evening, we have been there many times and have never been disappointed, service and quality of meals has been great.

My new favourite Thai Restaurant! Beautiful food! Went here for a function and just gorgeous food.<br/>Would highly recommend. From the entree with their mixed selection, to the mains, all beautifully cooked. We had a selection of Thai Green Curry Chicken, Chicken and Cashewnuts, Sweet and Sour Pork with veges, Spicy Beef and Veges (yum!), Chicken Pad Thai. There was so much food to go around.

I'd agree with other reviews to the extent that the restaurant is modern and clean with attentive service. <br/><br/>However I was slightly disappointed with the food. Its not bad, in fact its quite tasty and reasonable value, its just no better than any other Thai in Albany and quite possibly overrated. My companion, who previously raved about Khun Pun, also left underwhelmed. <br/><br/>3.5 stars.

Best Thai restaurant in Auckland Excellent food , Top staff very polite and help full.Relaxing atmosphere Very clean and tidy. <br/>We go here on a regular basis and have never had a bad experience.

I think the restaurant is really nice in general! We are loyal customers of the restaurant for some reasons. I went there on this Valentine day. Not amazing that it was a very busy day for such a good restaurant. We had to wait for a long time (it is the common disadvantage when we hang out on holiday). It was great that the food was very delicious as well as the staff were very polite. They came around and filled water, and smiled as always. That made us calm down and decided to have second drinks while we were waiting. The coffee that Pun makes, no doubt, is amazing. Give it a try, go here and enjoy your meals. I am sure you will have the same great experience us.

This restaurant is amazing! We have been coming here for years now. Their takeaways are great. Always great service and good food. It is nice a clean inside. Probably the best Thai in Albany!!! Keep up the good work.

We went here tonight because we saw good reviews about this place, the food was indeed good but I didn't think was worth waiting over an hour for. Customers on tables next to us were getting upset about the wait too and I think it's understandable because while us dine-in customers are waiting ages and ages they were busy serving takeaway customers...<br/>On top of that at the end of the evening we waited by the bar for at least 5minutes to pay before any staff came over to help. When the manager eventually came I handed over an entertainment book voucher with my visa card, not realising they didn't accept it because it was Valentine's day. I would be fine if she just said that nicely because I didn't read the fine print and only saw the "valid anytime" part on the voucher, but instead of explaining nicely that it couldn't be used the woman over the counter literally yelled at us like we were stupid and don't know how to read. She repeated herself multiple times and we didn't even try to push her to accept it. I don't know why she needed to yell but the manner was so so poor I will never ever ever return to this place. There was no mention of "sorry you had to wait so long" or "thank you" at all either, and this came from a senior staff (they wear different uniform)!!! Absolutely shocking.<br/>The junior staff in the restaurant were nice but the older ones are all quite rude. Very sad to see because I'm sure they lose a lot of customers this way. I for one is happy to pay more for good customer service. On the good side though, this place is clean and tidy - I'll give them that.

We've been here quite a few times and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. The service is warm and friendly, the food is amazing, the restaurant is clean and tidy and the prices are reasonable. Would recommend the red duck curry and the Pad Tom Yum Talay yumm! Overall, authentic cuisine in a warm friendly environment.

Definitely five stars here. The food was excellent. I had a "Panang Jae - a thick red curry with vegetables in coconut milk with crushed peanuts and tofu". It was absolutely beautiful. My daughter enjoyed having 'chicken nuggets &amp; chips', while us adults enjoyed having our delicious spicy Thai dishes.<br/><br/>As soon as we arrived, our daughter was given a pot of crayons, and was told that she can simply write on the table paper! Brilliant! (See picture I've uploaded of her meal next to her drawings.)<br/><br/>Service was excellent. Venue was clean and quiet, even though very busy (good soft acoustics).

I love going to Khun Pun, it has such a great ambiance and the wait staff are always very friendly and neat. <br/>I have been here a number of times over the past year and I will definitely be back! <br/>This place probably has the best Thai Food on the North Shore. <br/>The meals are always cooked to perfection and the restaurant has a very neat and clean layout. <br/><br/>I had the Spicy Jay from the vegetarian menu last time I went and it was delicious and not overly spicy which was great!

My husband and I have dined here for about 6 years now, and its always perfect, we love the service, the food and how clean the place is. We will always come back. And even we dont have the time we will take away. The owner and the girls are so friendly with a bi smile and the food costs so good especially for lunch

My wife and I visited this restaurant for the first time on the 7 Sept because we had an Entertainment Book voucher.<br/>We have visited most of the Thai restaurants on the Shore and this would have to be the best for Thai food.<br/>We will definitely be going back.<br/>The service was excellent and the staff very friendly. <br/>After visiting other restaurants. I considered this place very good value for money and the helpings were very generous.<br/><br/>If there was any criticism of the restaurant, it is that the lighting could be dimmed. The ambiance could be warmer if this was done.

We love this place. Excellent food and service! Always on top with water, and the food comes out promptly in our experience.<br/><br/>I do feel as though it is particularly dear (you pay extra for rice and there is a minimum spend) but it's worth it for a nice dinner out!
Ash Norman
Great place pity they charge for rice with mains. Never had a bad meal here.
Lunar
Went there with a group of 9 for restauranteering<br/><br/>By no means a bad restaurant, the service was good and the dishes were nice and had good flavor, however the food was extremely overpriced; the curry dishes didn't even come with rice (you had to pay for it separately) which means $20+ just for curry and rice.<br/><br/>Worth trying but there are far better - and cheaper - options out there.
Mel
Great Thai place! Lovely friendly effishent staff. Nice and clean. Beautiful tasty fresh food. Child friendly with fun dessert. Modern, fresh smart decor (not tired old traditional Thai place). Really cool. A bit more of a classy Thai place that makes you feel like you are really going out for dinner somewhere special rather than just popping out for a quick Thai or Indian meal.
Rochelle Christian
We have been here many times and always enjoyed ourselves. The staff are friendly, food is fresh and well presented, and the prices are reasonable. Only disappointment for us is the décor which is not traditional thai and is a bit too modern / industrial. Service is always fast. Well recommended.
Bruce
The best Thai food on the shore and one of the best in Auckland. Fresh ingredients, amazing flavours, great service and value for money. I've been eating at this restaurant at least once a month for the last 4 years and have never been disappointed. If you haven't been there for lunch try it, the quick lunch menu for $10.50 is a must.

Just came back from a dinner at this restaurant as we had a deal voucher and totally disappointed. Waited for the meal over 30 mins, the meal was good and when we finished I had half potion of my fish dish that I want to take home so I told the waitress. After 5 mins I asked the waitress who took my food away and she said "sorry I was too busy...sorry I forgot about it and threw it away...". When I came to the till, the lady behind the till said "sorry the waitress threw your 1 piece of fish away, you already have a very cheap, good deal I will take 10% off your fish dish". Come on people, it's not the way you, a manager or owner deal with customer !!!!! Will never come back again.

Awesome service and fabulous Thai cuisine, well done, fantastic value and consistently excellent food. Extremely clean and immaculately kept! Well done we will be back !!! Good wine selection, service always quick and polite. Kids really enjoyed it, great for Friday night or Sunday night dinner and always busy!

Have been for dinner three or four times now and have not been disappointed yet. Good quality food. Very tasty. Reasonably priced. They also do really good takeaway dinners.
Felicity Williams
One of the nicest Thai restaurants we have dined at, very authentic and service was good. we had the pad thai, a curry and a beef hot plate, was fresh &amp; delish, and had a entertainment book gold card so was great to get the discount. very clean and modern too.

First time dining here. Tried to get a booking on Fri avo for eve meal and was told they could only take us early. No problem, plenty of time to enjoy our hot, nicely presented, lovely tasting meals. Money bags were not to our taste, a bit sausagy but mains were great. Very friendly, attentive staff who seemed genuinely pleased to have you dining with them even WITH a voucher. Thanks for a pleasant start to our evening, we will return. Regards.<br/><br/>Feb 2012. Have been here since for dinner and as usual was lovely. But came for lunch today. Its great to see business making the effort to put deals out there to encourage people to come to their establishments. Had a lovely meal. dishes hot with plenty of flavour. Another bonus here is that the beverage prices are very reasonable which makes you happy to buy them. They are still making a bit on them but you dont feel like you are being ripped off and can enjoy a wine or beer or non alcoholic drinks with your meal. A huge high five to you guys for that. Thank you. And thanks again for always being so welcoming and appreciating your customers business. Highly recommended.

Update:<br/>We have denoted from 5 to 4 stars because of the prices are up too high now. Nasi Goreng $24 ??. Still best Thai restaurant on the North Shore.<br/><br/>Review:<br/>Been there many times dining in and also ordered take aways. Probably one of the best Thai places in Auckland because of always fresh and high quality ingredients. <br/><br/>Highly recommended.<br/><br/>Must be the best quality Thai on the North Shore after having been able to compare with a number of other Thai outlets here.<br/><br/>The freshness of the ingredients at Khun Pun is outstanding. The restaurant itself is modern and up the latest standard with a very good feeling.<br/><br/>The benchmark of Thai Cuisine on the North Shore I am happy to say!

For me, what makes great Thai food is fresh ingredients, perfectly combined flavors and a fragrance to the finished dish that is mouth watering.<br/><br/>The food here is nice, but I don't find it very interesting. To me it lacks fragrance. Otherwise a good place to eat if you want a taste of Thai
