Review Daikoku Albany - Albany

We came here for lunch. Booking was easy via their website. The floor was greasy from all the open plan cooking and posed a slip hazard. The staff were all so polite and friendly. We enjoyed our two lunch sets and the different courses. Thank you

Nice place to have a unique experience. Tables a little crowded but over all enjoyed the meal and the experience

Wheelchair parks NOT avail. but it is a HUGE car park, so not an issue to find a space, even on a very busy night. However it's an issue (& was for me) if you need a spot very close to the restaurants, we had to park a good 10min walk away & for myself, who suffers from multiple chronic illnesses, including severe fatigue, my husband had to drop me at the door before finding a park & then come back to pick me up once we'd finished dinner. Wheelchairs have access along the footpath & into the restaurant, however, the hallway down from the very small waiting area to the tables inside is quite narrow, with a large table taking up the entire waiting area, purely designed to sit & drink at. Our party chose to stand as I was the only one that HAD to sit due to my fatigue, so all 7 of us took up all of the waiting area by the cashier, this would be an issue waiting for your table, then having to get down to the seating area, and get around once seating especially and/or if you needed going to the bathroom as the tables are very close together It's quite a spacious restaurant, meaning a lot of tables not area, as they have an indoor and outdoor seating area. No smoking at all of course, that's to be expected, but also no vaping in the outdoor area which I find odd since new vapes give off barely any steam at all. I've had better experiences in terms of more flair from the chef, but of course the chef was very polite/friendly, may not have spoken much English as no matter what you said or asked he just smiled and nodded... Of course as part the Yeppan, he did the flaming onion which I don't get as part of the onion always gets burnt and mostly not cooked, however, this chef cut the onion and cooked it properly. There was of course throwing food to diners to catch in their mouths (or not haha) only 2 people at our table and only 1 from our party of 7 (I actually hate this, so of course declined as I always do, as I prefer to eat my food not have it thrown at my face, though it was entertainment seeing egg on my Bro in laws face hehe) Otherwise food was extremely well cooked and the meat was juicy, even the chicken which at some Teppan places can be quite dry, my Chicken was moist which was a pleasant surprise. Hubby got the steak and chicken set which he said was really well cooked. Everyone else said food was good. Not great but good. Special fried rice tasted like all the "special fried rice" at other Teppan places . I got the chicken and Prawn set.. For the price I was mildy surprised that you get 2 as part of the "set" however for the $20 extra I paid, I got 6 prawns, so $5 each, not sure I would get again even though they're pretty juicy and nicely cooked. Just enough yum yum sauce but since we have that at home we don't find it as "special" as it's a common sauce we use a lot. Though we booked a table for 8, they managed to squeeze 2 more onto our table!! Thankfully for them as I was about to make a HUGE complaint, our party ended up being 7, but it was definitely an 8 seater table!! Yet they squeezed 9 in??! The 2 woman told us how they desperately wanted to eat Teppan there that night, BUT, knowing Our table was for a 60th birthday with best friends it was quite rude to Pack another 2 people in with us and the table was squished & we're not large people either, more on the small side. Thankfully the other 2 were lovely & didn't expect to join in on conversations or as part of our party (I booked for our best friends & my sister + Bro inlaw) I found it interesting & a little odd that the 2 woman said they accepted their booking, BEFORE I even told them that one of our best friends couldn't make it as he only told us last minute. So would they have packed us onto an 8 seater with 10 people?! Out of all the Teppan places in this area.. I would definitely NOT recommend this place, purely due to how quite rude the staff were not just compared to other places but also as they knew it was a significant birthday. Quite disappointed, only upside is they didng charge extra for cake I brought with us.

Amazing service by Chef but lady at reception customer service not great. The food was delicious.

Hi guys, Very impressed with the food... I tried fish, steak and chicken as well as scallops and they were all GREAT. The theatricals of our chef was not over the top and the flavour was spot-on. The restaurant atmosphere was great, the staff were very polite and friendly and the prices were ok for the experience you are getting. I Highly recommend it, check out the pics and videos.

Set lunch menu from $25 is a good start, sold and miso soup comes as standard. You have the choice of chicken, beef and seafood for your mains. Quick and fast service and generally tasty. Ice cream as a finishing touch was great. Beer wine and non alcoholic options also available.

Daikoku is known for its signature Yum Yum sauce / Japanese Mayo. Lunch service runs from 1200 - 1430. Daikoku have 4 lunch options to choose from. Price ranges from $29 - $49, depending on the prawn or meat option. Lunch includes Miso soup, salad drizzled with ginger dressing, Ice cream, rice and vegetables. Generally, Onion and Courgettes. Seating arrangement is shared, if you don't have a full party. a seating arrangement sits 8 people. The chef entertained us with tricks using a spatula and BBQ fork. The yum yum sauce on prawns pairs well along with all the meat options. would recommend the gourmet lunch - 4 prawns plus 1 meat choice ( Fish, Chicken, Steak)

Very enjoyable place. Didn't know it existed. The cook had a real talent and interacted with the table. He made it

Great New Years Eve family dinner. Yum yum sauce as delicious as ever but the prices are pretty steep now,. definitely a treat rather than every day restaurant
The good the bad the dodgy
One of my mum’s favourite places and now our whole family's fave place to have lunch 🥰❤️
Benjamin Whitaker-Roberts
The food was quite tasty but I would say the experience of seeing it cooked in front of you was what made the service pop. Really friendly and hospitable staff, and entertaining chefs 😁
Penny Tuhoro
My number 1 restaurant regardless of which one I go to. Food is fantastic, chef is fantastic, atmosphere also fantastic. Well worth every cent highly recommend all Daikoku Teppinyaki outlets, you won't be disappointed.
Jamie MacKinnon
Amazing food good time had could have been a little more enthusiasm from the chef but not complaining
Nancy Taula
Great food and staff, entertaining but not my cup of tea. Quite expensive.
TheWorldOfThululu
We went here to celebrate a birthday last night. The atmosphere was exciting and the chef was full of energy. Overall a great experience and some beautiful food. The kids at our table had an awesome time too 😊
Alex
The waitress was uncaring and seemed unhappy to be there. Vegetarian options were poor. They offered to cook vegetarian separately and still cooked it with meat - my partner had bits of chicken in his veges. The tofu wasn’t cooked properly. All in all it lacked flavour, service was bad and our experience was overall disappointing. Have never left a restaurant with a full plate until this.

Teppanyaki is always an delightful dining experience and Daikoku Albany us no different. It's fun, delicious and a great social atmosphere for a date night or family dinner. Zomato Gold deal really is too good to be true but we're definitely not complaining! We had the ribeye and salmon combos with chop chop rice and green tea ice cream for dessert. As food as you can ask for!
Prashant Meenu Champa
Chef was very good and funny too.. great experience
Samantha Reddy
Absolutely pathetic that we weren’t allowed to use Zomato Gold membership as the waitress denied knowing that we had notified her at the start of the meal that we intended using Zomato Gold. The host refused to let us make use of our discount which resulted in us having to pay full price as opposed to 1+1 on food. Why be affiliated with Zomato Gold if you don’t allow patrons to make use of it? Two tables were denied use of their memberships. Pathetic and dishonest.
Akash Manilal
When we arrived, we were seated and we proceeded to tell the waitress that we have zomato gold, we were a pax of 12. At the end of the evening, when we proceeded to pay, we were told we did not inform them that we were going to use zomato gold , which we did inform the waitress. They refused to accept the discount to which we had to pay full price - disappointed customers with a dishonest establishment, will never visit this branch in Albany going forward

Awesome place. Love the atmosphere and enjoyed the food show when they are cooking for you. The chefs were polite, friendly and cooked the food really well. Ask for extra yum yum sauce. Delicious
Makram Daood
Amazing experience. ...food was excellent. ....served in a way you hardly find in any other restaurant.....highly trained poeple to make you live the moment and enjoy your meal.<br/>Thanks
Gelato
Greeted by rude staff who told us to wait<br/>After 15 mins he said they don’t have a table for us because we didn’t book<br/>He then yelled at us<br/>Extremely disappointed

Friendly staff, and nice food
Foodie Dudie
I don't know what you can expect more from here. Yes, the food is kinda pricey, but the chef and the food can make all worthy.

Great place for celebrating father day, excellent food and very good experience, specially for my daughter who was the first time to try Teppan. <br/>

Had a great experience yesterday with my mate. The food will be prepared in front of you and we had a great talk with the chef.<br/>Ordered the Eye Filllet and Daikoku has one of the best cut I have ever eaten, very delicious. Overall, one of the best Japanese restaurant and if you have Zomato Gold then the value is totally worth it.
Marcus Kwan
Very good food and the whole experience was very entertaining. Had really good fun with my mates. We ordered the combinations and all of us loved what we had. The teppanyaki chef and servers were very nice and friendly. The only reason I took 1 star off was because the manager seemed unfriendly. Otherwise, good place.
Rui Smith
Been there many times. Always enjoyed my lunch and dinner. My kid loves it too. With Zomato gold. It’s even more superb. Thank you and definitely come back again soon.
Trinity Tran
Very well presented and ventilated teppanyaki experience. High quality cuts of meat used - which is great to see. Extremely good value for money if using Zomato Gold.
Kayleigh Tristram
I usually have a good experience at daikoku, however last night had an issue with billing. The manager told me that because I was using zomato gold, I had to pay for everyone's meal (there were 4 of us) and that he was unable to split the payment. I used zomato gold frequently and have never experienced this before. The staff made it very hard for me to pay just because I was using zomato gold, and on their signage for zomato gold it does not say that they will only do one bill per table. Apart from the billing issue, food was great and the chef put on a very entertaining show, but would still be hesitant to return due to the issues with billing.
Annie King
The food was overpriced and overcooked. Zomato gold gave us a free side dish, NOT one free meal e.g. set meal which is the main offering for lunch. Spent $120 for lunch after the discount and left hungry.<br/><br/>Best bit was the $5 fried rice. Rubbery 4 scallops for $16. Rubbery small piece of squid about the same price. $45 crayfish gave us about 8 small pieces. When we saw the reasonable sized tail shell we thought great, but it wasn't full! They had just re used a tail shell and put a few scraps of crayfish in there! Come on, for $45 give us a reasonable portion...<br/><br/>Chef kept dropping things when doing his tricks, dropped the seasoning shaker on the floor, picked it back up and kept using it on our food, ewwww. Waitress forgot to bring us our drink. Rude cashier.<br/><br/>Very disappointed, never going back.<br/><br/>Vouchers are supposed to be used to get new customers to try the experience then become regulars.
Ellie
Daikoku is consistent with their food quality and has the best sauces! I always ask for more yum yum sauce haha. The chefs are friendly and very good at creating the atmosphere!
Adam Zhu
Great experience with lots of fun while dinning. Food is also quite nice. My kids loved it. Great idea for family to getogether. Or for a small staff dinner.
Mitha Laras
Really good place and food for familys,I order of land and sea, 1+1 used tomato gold, good deal 👍🏻, such a friendly staff. Really recommend for this place
Kayla Bosher
Love this place always fresh & delicious & they have new specials every month which are definitely worth checking out! Don’t forget to order extra yum yum sauce you won’t be disappointed!
JunYong Lin
Was here with gold card promotion 1+1 on food. There are few other in house lunch promotion as well. Lots of good deals. I got beef set menu and my friend got chicken. Of course, the cooking show was nice and staff was friendly and helpful. Food were delicious.
Jade Young
Daikoku is always a great place to go with family, kids love to see the cooking show, interacting with the chef. The service here is nice, food is average, but its always about the experience every time we come. Will come here again and again with friends and family.
Yena Heo
Always a great experience when going! I went most recently with my family for a night out. The chef that we had was really enthusiastic and funny- had us laughing the whole time :)
Louise India Suckling
The food is amazing, and the show of the cooking is spectacular. There is always a feeling of awe as you watch your food be cooked right in front of you. It is always fantastic visiting Daikokou.
Jean-Philippe Diel
Disappointing experience. The food is ok but not really that amazing and I am familiar with Teppanyaki, the service was rushed and minimal. The menu is hard to understand and minimalist... basically choose a formula. After a short while we felt maybe this isn’t enough food and asked to order one more lunch formula, but the chef had to move to another table so we got told that’s impossible. Order, eat and leave quickly... is what I felt. First time I found a restaurant who doesn’t want to sell you anymore food ...
Kenny
Great experience and really fun and exciting for the kids !! good quality ingredients, nice setting and great service. Will definitely be coming back.
Echo Zhou
Quite interesting dinning experiences. Love the peanut sauce for meet. The shrimp appetizer is really fresh and tender. There are also some shows about food. One thing is they can’t make appointment at half hour. Because only gathering 7 people can start cooking for one table.
Saman Moha
Very tasty food, these guys are artist. The entertainment that you get is also a big bonus on top of a very very tasty food they have. This place is simply amazing
Alicia Maree Andrews
Delicious food as always and packed with flavour. The staff and chef always bring a good vibe to the place and try to get everyone involved at the table which is cool! My partner who is a fussy eater absolutely loved his entire meal which was great!!!! Will be back again for sure!!!
Chloe
Had really good experience tepanyaki! Enjoyed performance and foods were absolutely nice :) and thanks for the kind services ! Will come back next time
Andrew
Great food and atmosphere. Good service. Great show from the chef. My toddler son loved it. Would come again. Only negative aspect was the lack of parking.
Andy Qi
Can't complaint about the food quality, but very disappointed about customer service and communication. <br/><br/>Soon when I arrived in the restaurant I showed the waiter the zomato gold membership on phone and he accepted it. But didn’t ask me to unlock the code. I questioned if I should unlock it, he said only need to unlock when I pay. <br/><br/>So when I pay the bill, the restaurant manager denied our voucher! He said we didn’t unlock the code. I said I did grab acceptance from your waiters! However he still denied. We kicked up a fuss and in the end he gave us discount. I think the way the manager dealt with us was very unprofessional and a lacking of customer service experience. Especially his attitude is very bad and non-skilled. This is our first time eating at daikoku, and it will be our last. We will not go back again. <br/><br/>ZOMATO GOLD customers be aware of this restaurant and their lack of poor communicationn and service! make sure if you want to use your gold membership, please unlock of the code in front of the duty manager and get his acceptance before eating!! <br/><br/>Really disappointed!
Shirley Weng
Great experience with excellent food taste. I like the steak and prawn.<br/>I will come again try differently meal next time.<br/>It is a good place to celebrate birthday. Staffs are friendly.
Amy Fleetwood
Came here because of Zomato gold. Really good atmosphere and a fun night. food was yummy. Would not recommend coming if you have allergies to egg as they throw that around. Could use the zomato gold which was good also as i saw a review that said you couldn't use on mains.
Sharon Yun
Very entertaining to watch the fire show. Prawns with yumyum sauce was very delicious. However the garlic pieces with steak was burnt and salmon wasn’t that fresh. Main guy at counter wasn’t smiling and almost felt cold. When hubby asked for eft receipt he said the invoice is enough. Felt very awkward afterwards.
Kenneth Seah
Went there for a family lunch the other day and the following happened.<br/><br/>The chef forgot my daughters meal (chicken) Until the very end then he ran to get it from the kitchen.<br/><br/>The staff tried to take our plates away while we were still eating out food!! I mean I get you want to clean and get ready for the next shift but come on...<br/><br/>We had to remind the wait staff that only half the table got ice cream. <br/><br/>And to top it off, 2/4 family members got food poisoning.<br/><br/>Either it’s a string of bad luck, or they just don’t care.
Makimaki
We normally go to Daikoku Teppan Takapuna or Quay street. So it was our first time to come to this branch for lunch.<br/>When we entered the restaurant, an attendant didn’t say anything and she was just staring us.<br/>We informed her about Zomato Gold and she said we can only order side menu items like edamame beans. I asked if we could use dinner menu but she said no. Actually we have been to Daikoku teppan Takapuna at lunch time and they told me that we were not able to order for lunch set menu but we could order dinner menu with Zomato Gold.<br/>The overall experience is better in Takapuna or Quay st branch and the quality of the food, vegetables and meat were not properly cooked and portion size was smaller.
Jake Iles
Have been to Daikoku many times and this was by far my best experience! There was three of us and we also had a parking spot for our newborn baby (who managed to sleep through the whole dinner). I ordered the chicken and prawn combo that came with miso and a salad as entree which was as expected. The chef introduced himself as was very high energy and had a great sense of humour! The chicken delicious and there was decent portions as well. Prawns were fresh and to finish off I had a desert of matcha ice cream that was included in the combo. The chef made and night and will definitely be back there soon!
Jordan O'Reilly
Awesome experience, super friendly staff! They looked after my array of allergies extremely well, which really means a lot to me. :) Thanks Daikoku team!
Hriday Shah
Have been here a few times and the food has always been good. The upgrade to the chop chop rice is especially worth it. Get the full teppanyaki experience with the flames and whistles. Great experience with the family or on a date.
Ryan Wang
I'd say it's interesting to get experience of having a chef cooking in front of you and sharing table with others. The chef is friendly and interactive, but food is cooked in a pretty simple oily way.<br/><br/>Overall the taste 5/10; fun 8/10; portion-price 3/10; ambience 7/10
Leo Liu
not good. never come back again. staff not friend ly at all. chicken was hard to chew. lobster tail is same from pak n save ( 12.99),but daikoku charged 42.
Danyelle Gates
Great food and entertainment 👍 girls did forget our drinks a few times in the night so 1 star drop, other then that no other complaints ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Mya S
Really enjoyed my experience here - the service was fantastic and the staff are super interactive. They also asked me if I wanted my meal cooked separately/first before the meat dishes (vegan) and if I could eat certain foods/ingredients e.g. egg in the rice, swapping the prawns that come with the entree set for extra veges. There was A LOT of food, so much that we had to get some takeaway - which was an option!
Its Me
Very entertaining and enjoyable dinning experience! I'm not sure if daikoku is just a popular Japanese word? Or maybe it means tepanyaki? like how every Chinese restaurant is named like golden bridge, gate, horse or golden something but I find every daikoku in Auckland is very differ from one another but it is safe to say this is the best or the better one at least? I would like to come here if like one of the older family members paying but I wouldn't voluntarily come here (only because I could skip the show and rather get better service & food else where for the price)
Grace Huang
Daikoku isn’t the place to go if you are looking for authentic high quality Japanese cuisine BUT if you want entertainment while enjoying your meal. This is your spot.<br/><br/>Service: 9/10<br/>WOW!!! The workers were all so unbelievably friendly and smiley that they just lifted my spirit even though I was having a bad day. The chef was so skilled and put on an entertaining show when we sat and ate. He even encorporated the guests by throwing eggs for the us to catch in our mouths.<br/>The only thing was that our booking was at 8 but they only started our service at 8:20 because I guess they were waiting for more people so the chef didn’t have to perform just for two people.<br/><br/>Food: 6/10<br/>I ordered the teriyaki beef with entree set and chop chop fried rice upgrade.<br/>The teriyaki beef was quite fatty which made it chewy in some areas and hard to bite off.<br/>The amount of meat served was quite disappointing for $38.<br/>When I finished my vegetables I was left with a pool of oil and water on my plate. <br/>The appetiser and salad were pretty standard and the miso soup wasn’t too salty.<br/>The shrimp was very tasty with the delicious yum yum sauce.<br/>The chop chop fried rice had a great flavour with the seasoning and is definitely worth the five dollars extra.<br/>I feel like the portions have decreased over the years and the quantity of food wasn’t really worth the price.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 8/10<br/>It is quite dark inside to allow the shows the seem more bright and exciting. The decorations help make the restaurant have a more Japanese vibe. The tree in the middle of the restaurant was very unique and made the environment seem more traditional. The tables and dinnerware are all clean and nicely displayed for the customers. <br/><br/>Overall, this restaurant isn’t really worth coming for the food since the portions are small for the high prices, but it’s a great experience that everyone should try out at least once.
Jacob JD
Went there for three times. Had fun as their chefs entertaining us while cooking in front of us. Only the sashimi slices were too thick, otherwise it would be a 5-star.
Tony Sung
I came here with my parents. Our chef was skillful and entertaining. Foods were a bit pricey but tasty. Had good time and will come back again.

We were house sitting at Coatesville and decided to venture into Albany for dinner and discovered they have a daikoku branch here as I’ve been to the quay street branch a few times . The set up here is very similar with an outdoor area as well and toilets upstairs . We didn’t have to share with others and had our own chef for just the 2 of us as it’s usually groups of 8 in each teppanyaki set up with the dedicated chef performing and cooking in front of you. <br/><br/>We ordered the rib eye and also the sirloin steak and chicken combo which was filling plus a salad to start and also dessert with the combo . Make sure the meat is cooked as desired as our medium steak had to be cooked again as it was still bloody/ red and the other chef was accommodating enough to cook it again for us. <br/><br/>Local Japanese Orion on tap but I had the Kirin in a bottle and also local house wine to wash it all down. Nice setting and entertaining / fun for group outing recommended !
Jenning C.
Been here twice. Had seafood the first time and the prawns on mayonnaise was heavenly. Had steak on my second visit and it was great. My family and I loved it. The chefs brought us lots of laughter despite the kids asking him lots of questions. Will definitely be back!
Abby Liu
Great Japanese Teppanyaki, if you wanna try, it is a must go. Tranditional Japanese deco, clean and tidy. The cook was perfect, talktive and we never get bored while waiting for food. Lunch special is really a treat
Sam Smith
LOVE Daikoku great food and great service. Totally recommend though if you are going to come here you attend for lunch and not dinner. It was the first time I had come for dinner in quite some time and my main meal and a drink cost $56.00, It is expensive however if you want to enjoy the taste and service i also recommend coming here for lunch as you don't get quite as big a meal (similar though) for a lot less :) <br/><br/>Parking around this one can also be tricky on a busy night so plan ahead and get there a little earlier than your booking to have time to find a park in needed.
Julius Tang
Food:<br/><br/> Ordered a dinner for 2 set ( with chicken, wagyu steak , baby lobster) with a scallop meal and extra scotch as a side order.<br/><br/>Our chef is not as good as the others serving other tables..That said the quality of the meat was excellent so fortunately it still nice, but you can see the fried rice was not as well made compare to the others.<br/><br/>3.5 out of 5<br/><br/>Service:<br/><br/>Service in Japanese restaurant is always good so no complaints here...The waitress is very nice was very apologetic when she forgot I wanted some water, which happens sometimes<br/><br/>5 out of 5<br/><br/>Environment:<br/><br/>It's traditional setting Japanese restaurant so nothing new which is not a bad thing. Pretty much what I expected with teppanyaki.<br/><br/>4 out of 5<br/><br/>Overall I will come back to have teppanyaki again!
Aman
Food was good been here a couple of times alway great service and the chief is always amazing. The surf and turf is my favourite is a big feed and gets you full.

Food: Chef is really good, the shrimp was cooked perfectly, and steak was not bad either. The fried rice is not too salty, just the right amount of flavour. <br/><br/>Service: Generally the service is good, although it’s strange that they only let you order once. So we wanted to order edemame first before we decide on the entree, but they didn’t let us saying we can only place our order once. Then we ask whether we can order more sashimi after trying the first one and found out it’s good, and they were hesitant to agree to it. I understand having to heat up the Teppan again is not possible, but why can’t I order more sashimi?<br/><br/>Good for kids?: Yes! The place has delicious steak/chicken and rice, edemame, shrimp dumplings, miso soup, etc. as well as being quite entertaining!

IBeen there few days ago. It was an amazing experience. One of our friend had hypoglycemia, we asked the staff. A guy gave us one bottle ginger beer immediately. Really appreciate. Excellent service, excellent entertainment, delicious food. Would definitely go back again and recommend this restaurant.

Went with Friday for lunch, choose Daikoku because I have been the one in Takapuna and in town, they were all very nice. Went to the one in Albany because it is close to where my friend lives. Food is nice and the chef is friend. However, we were very disappointed about the service we received. We were both pregnant, and we are not aware the prawn with the sauce which got raw egg in it. After the chef prepared the food, I ask the chef if any raw egg in the sauce, he said yes. We said we are sorry but we could not eat raw egg due to pregnancy. The Japanese chef was very nice, change for us straight away. A guy came in- the guy who took us order (believe he is the duty manager Austin Fang?) said to us" i asked you if you are allergy at the beginning, execute me " this is not allergic, all right" we just not aware the sauce for prawn got raw egg in it. He just walked away. What a bad attitude. No apologize or anything, sounds it is our fault. It was even worse attitude when we pay the bill. I have been in hospitality industry for over 10 years, shame on people like this working in the restaurant industry. I want to make a complaint at the end, my friend asked me not to bother. Because of my job I eat often outside, hardly receive such a bad service. I don't think many people will return due to the service we received, I defiantly not. The guy who is the duty manager doesn't even understand what customer service means. Shame on you.
IMwatermelon
A really good place with family (I came with my friends). The price is so so, if you are keen to have a look for Japanese BBQ, you'd better try here. The chef is surrounded by customers, he cooks in front of us. It's amazing to see the "fire train" , and the chef throw the fried egg into your mouth, you have to have a good technique to get it.
Vivien Xu
I'm really disappointed with the customer service here. The staff didn't explain the menu clearly and even the manager.<br/>And push we order as soon as possible because the chef has already been ready for everything. And we have been told we can't order extra stuff after the chef done his preparation.<br/>And when I want to order from the staff. She told me the manager will take your order and even don't look at me.<br/>We had been to Takapuna Daikoku for so many times. This is our first visit in Albany.<br/>But we had a really bad experience here.
Nicole Holmes
Went for a birthday dinner. Was very disappointed. They didn't seem to want our patronage. We were sat by a cold draft- even though there was a table free to be sat at. But we were told we can't sit there as two chefs can't work behind each other. But 5 minutes after we were seated another table came and sat there.. go figure... the waitress was rude and not very helpful. The chef was good and the food was nice. But the overall experience and atmosphere ruined the dinner. Wouldn't go back!
Helena Alldridge
We booked our night out for my husband's 50th Birthday a few weeks prior to the occasion, with family and friends coming to the dinner party. On arrival we we're not allowed to sit at our tables we had to wait... another table had people seated and arriving... we waited a while then asked again if we could be seated the lady behind the desk asked another lady and finally we got an answer! We we're then told that we only had 1 1\2 hours to eat our meals as our tables had been booked out and they had tried to call us several times during the day however, no msgs advising us of this was left. The service we received during our dinner was either not given or rushed... we we're highly disappointed with the whole experience, after all it was a big deal to a person who means a great deal to his loved ones. A great occasion but a very disappointing venue.

We love teppanyaki and Daikoku Albany never disappoints us so far. We've always opted for the fish as our main as together with the delicious yum yum sauce it's a match made in heaven! We usually come on the weekend for lunch, and at $19.80 you get a bowl of miso soup, salad, main (fish/chicken/beef) and 2 prawns, and ice cream. Our tummy would be so full afterwards but it's alright as long as it's happy hahaa. The ice cream is a bit icy for me but it's allgood cos I'm an ice cream fan and wouldn't complain much as long as I'm given my ice cream.

Been there with friends and kids. <br/>Ordered set, Love their prawns with yum yum sauce, but OK with other stuff. <br/>the deep fried ice cream was too oily, overall, the food was bit oily.<br/>the service was great.<br/>
K.jadeyoung
I find the service at the Albany branch very appalling. Arriving just after 8pm they didn't seem like the wanted to accomodate us or were even interested in our business. <br/><br/>I had the prawns which I do love but this time round my tummy didn't feel right.<br/><br/>Needless to say I won't be returning to the Albany branch again.

Unfriendly wait staff. Very average food. Useless chef! Vegetarian option very crappy. Not a good selection and no one seemed to be knowledgeable- "Want extra prawns"(???) Won't return.

As a daikoku regular of the takapuna branch over the years nothing beats the yum yum prawns!<br/>After a few bad experiences at the takapuna branch I vowed I wouldn't go back...that is until I discovered the Albany daikoku! All my hopes and dreams of what I wanted the takapuna branch to be was Albany 🙌🏼<br/>The atmosphere was lovely, whilst you still sit in close proximity to other tables if felt roomy with the high ceilings. The tables and floors were clean and staff very friendly and attentive. <br/>The food was cooked to perfection and the yum yum prawns were so good they brought tears of joy to my eyes...dramatic I know but trust me,it's amazing. <br/>With the theatrical cooking style of teppanyaki not only is your belly getting an experience so are you eyes. <br/>Will definitely be going back and wearing stretchy pants to fit it all in <br/>

Regularly come here for family birthday dinners (family favourite). Cleaner than the one in the city, and same great food and entertainment. Hard to go past the Chef's Choice with  a side of extra prawns and yum-yum sauce. Be warned, if you order the fried rice you'll like have bits of egg thrown at you (expected to catch with your mouth). Many people (including myself) love the 'fun' of that, but others are put off by it.

Dined here tonight with two others, Daikoku is always an entertaining evening & the food is to die for, the staff are lovely & provide the classic Japanese hospitality, they make you feel welcome from the minute you walk in the door. We all had teppanyaki sets which are awesome value for money, the sets include miso soup, a starter, salad, veggies, your chosen protein & steamed rice. The selection of proteins is excellent & I found myself spoilt for choice. I eventually decided on the chicken & beef sashimi to start. The others I was dining with had prawns and beef teriyaki. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, everything was cooked to perfection. Our chef was a very sweet lady, she wasn't the most entertaining chef, but she certainly knew how to cook beautiful food which is the main thing right. Overall we had a great evening & I look forward to returning again.

Went here for mums birthday, suuch a nice food performance! Loved it, defs coming for my birthday. Best was the train thing they did (sorry not really sure what you actually call it).

Indeed some fun experience to my surprise. Better to gather 6 or 7 other friends to go together as you guys can have your own table rather than share with others (possibly at rush hours). As for ordering, make sure you've ordered everything (main) in the beginning as you may not make it once the chef has finished the ceremony. No hurry for desserts though, because you are entitled to free ice cream or fruit, or 50% upgrade to Deep Fries Ice Cream/banana ice cream if ordered a meal/set.

Service was poor. Our table was in a draft from their back door area. My Californian roll entrees were crab meat not chicken, yum-yum sauce was thick and cold on my fish which was dry and tasteless. Drink order taken once then nothing else. Had to ask for water that came out warm straight from the tap. Price's were not justified and the silly choo-choo train whilst the Veges cooked entertained a child but not required for an adult. Go if you like playing with your food.

Personally this teppanyaki restaurant has that potential to exceed its expectations in terms of food although I enjoy the part where they cook the food in front of you but the excitement and establishment is just plain simple but a great experience in Japanese style cuisine.
JaimeC
Teppanyaki. What's not to like? You get great food and entertainment at the same time.<br/><br/>The kids were greatly entertained and the kids' menu selection was easy as - very simple choices- it was either fish or chicken.<br/><br/>For the adults- the combo deals make life easy as you get two choices. Again, nothing complex.<br/><br/>Order a side of prawns with the yum- yum sauce! All meals come with it but we seem to never get enough of it!

We had been meaning to go to the Daikoku in Albany for months and finally went there for lunch last weekend. It is obviously very popular as we had to wait on a table but this wait proved very short, so no problem. You are seated with others arriving about the same time as you share a table around the teppan. The lunch special includes 2 tiger prawns, steamed rice, salad, grilled vegetables, miso, and followed by ice cream. We went for the chicken (with fried rice) and the fish lunch. The food is cooked by an expert at the table, and provides the perfect floor show. The chicken was succulent and delicious, the fish was fresh and flaky, and the vegetables (onion & courgette) crisp and tasty. The fried rice was a joy to watch being cooked and had a magnificent smoky BBQ flavour. The chef was great to watch as he cooked the food in a well organised and stylish way. Overall very good food at a very reasonable price. We will certainly be back.

The food is very tasty from the entrees to the mains and the staff are so fun-spirited. I found the prawns and yum yum sauce spectacular and I would definitely come back despite how bloody hot it is in there.

Went there many times for lunch, as it is close to home. Value for money, only $15.80 for lunch set. Yes, I agree that it is a bit cold on a cold day, otherwise is fine.<br/><br/>Set lunch comes with miso soup, salad, beef/chicken/fish , veg, rice and ice cream. Pretty standard things.<br/><br/>One thing I would like to point out is their chef is not always good. It's depends on your luck. Went there when it was opened not for long, the chief cooked our food and tasted very blended, as he forgot all the seasoning on the meat.<br/><br/>Another time, there was another chef who was fairly new I guess. Overcooked all food as he was cooking very slow and didn't know the timing I guess.<br/><br/>But another time, we had this Indian man chef, who cooked our lunch in a perfect way.<br/><br/>So, try your luck and see what comes out !<br/><br/>p.s. I Never go there for dinner. (Tried once at their Takapuna branch). I don't get why you are eating similar food as lunch but you are paying triple the price during dinner time. To me... I don't find it worth.

Visited this place for lunch the other day as I had a hankering for some good Teppanyaki. The service was slightly slow to start with but to be fair, it was really busy. I chose the steak and fish meal. they had it cooked on the same table as expected with a moderate amount of flair with the knife and spatula. The veges were perfectly cooked and so were the steak and the fish. The steak was a perfect medium rare which I find is quite difficult to find in most restaurants. Also, the sauces.....beautiful. Overall a very satisfying experience for a reasonable price. I highly recommend this place to whoever wants Japanese other that just sushi and miso soup.

Diakoku is usualy a fave of mine with many pleasant visits in the past however yesterday was a let down. The staff are very welcoming warm and pleasant, although my rice was forgotten 9/10. The food however was a let down. The steak came out frozen to which it was placed right on the grill (always defrost meat before it's cooked!) , scallops were burnt; steak burnt and bland. If people are going to be paying $75 for a meal each I would sincerely expect better quality. We will give diakoku another shot however hope this feedback is taken on board.

Came here yesterday with my partner. Dikoku is one of my regulars that I totally love. Yesterdays expierence wasnt the greatest. The girl gave my rice but not my partners.. and forgot the fork when I asked her for one for my partner. The female chef we had was good; as the chefs always are there. As always the establishment is neat and tidy. One thing that upset me was I wanted a soda water and they had none so I settled with water. But no harm no foul. Thank goodness for $15 lunches (:

Went to Daikoku Albany in a cold raining day, with my little girl. sitting outdoors, bit of cold, the waiter is sweet and bring a heater to keep us warm. favorite dish is cray fish, fresh and yummy. steak and other seafood is ok. sushi is not recommended, just so so.

Beautiful food, great service, one of my favourite places to dine. Great lunch specials $15-25. Try the prawns with yum yum sauce! Nice set up, plenty of parking, would definitely recommend, yummo.

Have had lunch at Daikoku Albany 3x since they opened in Oct 2014.  Always a pleasant experience and enjoy the atmosphere  more so than Takapuna, which I feel is getting a little dated and dirty feeling.  <br/><br/>The staff at Albany are absolutely fabulous to deal with and having taken my older parents there, my partner and also our young kids I can say we have all truly enjoyed ourselves.  <br/><br/>Dinner is quite pricey, so would only be a once in a very rare while we would go, but the lunch special is fantastic value and much enjoyed by us all.  The others love the steak, and I cannot pass up the gourmet lunch with chicken, and the super tasty prawns!  I will add I am not a fan of the fish option for main choice, but that is a small critique and my own personal taste.<br/><br/>Fresh food, super service and fun atmosphere.  The staff at Albany really do bring a smile to your face, and have looked after our kids so well in the past with the odd joke or catering to them with kid friendly chopsticks etc.    We are always impressed by the warm personalities :)<br/><br/>I have lunch set up with a girlfriend next week... guess where we are planning on going....  see you soon Daikoku Albany!! Keep up the fabulous work!!

We were supposedly to dine in Lone Star but the waiting time is 20 minutes hence we decided to try Daikoku just few doors away.<br/><br/>We never expected it to be teppanyaki restaurant. We thought it is just a normal Japanese restaurant.<br/>We were seated surrounding teppanyaki counter where a chef was cooking, performing some tricks to entertain the customers especially kids will be very happy with it.<br/><br/>The price of food is not cheap especially if you order crayfish. The kid menu is worth for money. As low as NZD15 my children were served steam rice or fried rice, miso soup, fried veggie, either fish or chicken and 2 big scoops of ice cream!<br/>The food was fresh but a bit disappointed as the taste for fish, chicken, crayfish and beef taste the same. What I wanted to say is they used the same sauce to cook the food. From my experience if visiting some good teppanyaki restaurant back in Malaysia, the taste for seafood and meats were difference, for example some they used cooking sake, some without. <br/><br/>Aside from the taste, the whole experience was very entertaining.

My friend and I go to the Albany Daikoku quite often, since he lives pretty close to it, we use to go there once a week. Normally I'd give it a solid 4, but this evening's experience was absolutely appalling. We sat at a table with a family of 5, 2 kids. The kids didn't order any meals, but the chef was sharing all the meals with them as well. They were lovely kids but it becomes far less pleasant knowing we were paying for them to eat. If the chef shared the food somewhat evenly then fine, whatever. But not sure if my friend and I were extra ugly or something, we were given less consistently. On top of that, the chef had a dead serious expression the whole time, kept conversation and interaction to a minimum level. He also completely forgot about the prawns we ordered, I tried to grab his attention as he walked away, got the neglect treatment, had to go to the counter and explain we didn't get everything we ordered.<br/>After we finished dining, went to the counter to mention our disappointment, something along the lines of "we're sorry" or "it won't happen again" would have sufficed, but they instantly started making excuses. Couldn't be bothered with arguing and didn't want to create a scene, so we cut them short, paid and left.<br/>My friend is going overseas for a while and this was the farewell dinner, normally we'd enjoy a decent conversation over the slow paced dining there, but this evening was just filled with awkwardness and disappointment. To be frank we left the restaurant feeling very gutted over the sub-par treatment. I've been to Daikoku dozens of times, the only brunch I haven't visited is the Botany one. And tonight is the single worst experience I have ever had.

My family and I visited Daikoku a few weeks ago for lunch and it was quite enjoyable! The staff were friendly, the steak and chicken were both cooked perfectly as well as the seafood. The vegetables were seasoned nicely and was a delicious meal! We would happily go back

Went there for a family dinner, I had the fish fillet and it was delicious especially with the yum yum sauce! The chef also was very entertaining (the smoke train and the fire).. Will be back for the second time very soon!

Came here for lunch two times, the staff was very hospitable and I enjoyed myself a lot. <br/>I had meat the first time and fish the second. The fish was really nice and tender and it was a bigger portion than I expected for $15, all the other accompaniments were also nice. I would definitely go back.

Came here for lunch today. Im generally not a fan of teppanyaki but my parents raved about this place. We ordered the lunch set. For 14.50 you get salad, miso soup, rice and main (fish, chicken or steak) and ice cream (two scoops). Overall the food was pretty good and tasty. I think the lunch set is pretty good value for money. My dad ordered the ocean set which coted more 28.80 for a small piece of salmon, 4 scallops and 4 prawns. I personally feel this is more pricey and probably not worth it. The yum yum sauce was not very good. Overall its a pretty good experience.

Let me tell you how excited I was when I found out they were making a Daikoku in albany!! I have always been in-love with the one in Takapuna but since it is quite out of the way, it was always a treat when I could get there for dinner. It's the perfect place to go when you're with a group of people and want something a bit different! The chefs are all great and prepare your food right infront of you. I am very wary about what foods I put in my body and I sometimes don't like the idea of not knowing what could be in a dish while dining out. That's a reason I love Diakoku, because you see everything the chef adds to your food so you know exactly what's going into your body. The flavors are so yum and spot on. The lunch special at Albany is awesome! Such a good price for what you get. I tried the fish for the first time. I don't like battered fish so they were kind enough to not put any flour or anything on my fish, no questions asked. And it was delicious! Always a fun place to go. Can get a bit pricey for dinners though.

Went here a couple of weeks ago.<br/>The chef this time was amazing and entertaining, which was definitely a highlight as previous times chefs had been quite novice at the albany branch. <br/>As per usual the prawns, chicken and yum yum were well seasoned and delicious. Tried the vegetable tempura this time which had a good selection and were also well cooked. <br/>Still one of my favourite places to go and eat, as I know what I will get and enjoy having the chef cooking at the table.<br/>Have been for lunch once too, would recommend as good value for money!

went in and was greeted very warmly. Meals were alright the service was excellent and the staff handled customers well also the chef knew some interesting tricks however chefs were rushing a bit and would of liked it if the chefs stayed a bit longer.

Came here with my family for my sisters birthday. Love the fact that they cook it in front of you and it's done quickly and hygienically. Felt a little bit rushed as the chefs aren't around for long and were disappointed that we didn't get the famous egg flicked into our mouths or smoke train. Nonetheless its a nice environment and yummy food, the lunch deals are good too!

We went last week as a family with small children. We were seated quickly and the restaurant was very accommodating when we asked to change our book to half an hour earlier.  The service was excellent, the staff here are brillant with children and our chef knew some good tricks. <br/><br/>The food was beautiful and we had a great night.  The only thing I would like to change is to take the fries off the kids menu and to keep it all japanese.<br/><br/>Would definetly come back, the only thing I would do differently is to order less food and the set menus included more food that we expected.

Came here for lunch the other day with three of my girlfriends! Lunch deal is so worth it!!!! I gave it a 4/5 because although the food was delicious i wouldn't come back if not for the lunch special!

First time here for lunch, very happy with meals, service. Price of meals are cheap, its the extra sides and drinks that drive up the price. Favorites are prawns and yumyum sauce. Will definitely be back sometime soon.
