These pies are the best I have been here 5 times and every time they don't disappoint. Tender meat fabulous pastry and amazing service this is by far the best pie shop. Sadly we don't live that close otherwise would be going there every single day because there just amazing.

**HIGHLY RECOMMEND STOPPING HERE** came here as some mornings I drop the lovely lady off that works here.... finally got to try the pies! and let me tell you, they do not disappoint! little bit more expensive than your local bakery but the flavour and cooking of the pies are just top notch, had a steak and tasty cheese and the steak was so tender and melt in your mouth I almost went and got another one... will be back to try some of the unique combinations they have for pies!! **HIGHLY RECOMMEND STOPPING HERE**

We make a detour to head to pioneer pies whenever we are on the shore. They have a great range of vegetarian and meaty pies which are great quality and really delicious. I love the chicken and leek and the butter paneer pies is an awesome vegetarian treat. Top tip is the frozen multipacks available to take home

If you're looking for a gluten free pie this is the place! I had the steak and cheese, the GF pastry was flakey and the meat incredibly tender and flavorful. Limited hot options (plenty of frozen) but ask if they have any in the oven out back.

If you are a liver of great pies, this place is a must! Gluten free, Vegan, and so many other varieties and yes, they have huge chunky steak pies too.... Coffee, not bad but the pies, arguably the best in the Shore.

Have gorged on the Braised Beef & Blue Vein, Angus Steak & Cheese and Chicken, Mushroom & Tarragon Sauce… I have yet to experience a bad pie on the 5+ trips I’ve made already. The size of the pies are just right with a light flakey top (I try to stay away from any pie that has a thick flakey top, that's disaster material right there!). Their build quality is solid allowing you to pie with one hand, Coke with the other and without any issues of the pie opening at the other end (a big no-no for any "true" Pie Connoisseur). First bites so far have yielded a 100% success rate, resulting in a satisfying amalgamation of delectable pastry, meat and gravy/sauce. With Pioneer Pies being a 30 minute drive, they’re quite the trek for simply getting a pie. Compared to your run of the mill bakery, these guys will fall on the pricier side, but Pioneer Pies aren't what I call a bakery, they're specialists in creating extremely delicious pies… usually evident in the first bite. For me, they're definitely worth the drive and price.

Great pies and friendly staff Called in to satisfy my lunchtime need for some top quality nosh and wasn't disappointed. Hot out of the oven my steak and cheese pie (which was recommended by the helpful staff) had lovely thin and crispy pastry and was jammed full of yummy filling. You could tell the ingredients are all local...fresh, flavorful and nicely seasoned. Really good value for money and I'd have no problem going back. Hmm....I fancy a pie come to think of it.

BEST pies in my opinion. Such nice thin pasty with a cracker of filling choices. My personal fave is chicken, cranberry, camembert cheese. The service is also amazing, friendly, warm people. I highly recommend. I only live 3mins away and thats gonna be a big problem now. 😆

The best pies I've tried. Crust is flaky and crispy. Cheese is to die for. Brought it to the office one time and it was a hit. I live in central and it's always worth the drive to north shore just to buy their pies. Keep it up guys.

Extraordinary pie & service!!! I was initially looking for a substitution of a birthday cake, since my fiance is not a fan of sweets. The idea of having a juicy meat pie sounds superb and the hunt for an authentic and hearty meat pies began. It was quite challenging for me to look up for places selling great pies in Auckland, since I live in Singapore at the moment. I really wanted the pie to be tasty! I looked up online for several places selling pies, read the reviews and my eyes hooked on Pioneer Pies. I approached these guys on Instagram and the owner, Carla, was very lovely and helpful!! She patiently assisting me in choosing the pies and organizing the delivery as well. She even helped me decorate and write a birthday card as well! :') My fiance LOVES the pies SO SO MUCH! He repeatedly said how good were the pies every time he ate them, especially the steak and red wine pie :) His housemate said so, too. Pioneer Pie's store is quite a distance from my fiance's place, but they're planning to go there to have another bite of the delicious pie. IT MUST BE that good. I cannot wait to visit Auckland and have a taste of it myself! All in all, I am totally in awe with their service and the taste, not to say the least. Thank youuu once again, Carla, for responding to all my queries and organizing the whole thing. Very recommended :)

Delicious gourmet pies! The pastry was flaky and buttery, and the filling was perfect. Will definitely travel up to Albany to have this again.

WOW!!!... just had the BEST pie I've ever had!!! Braised Beef & Cheese... hubby called and advised he was picking me up a pie on way home... I anticipated one from the petrol station or a lunch stop cafe etc - I was so so so pleasantly surprised when he presented me with a Pioneer Pies bag (printed with their name and the words "Just like the good old days" along with their www. site on the front of the bag and all their options of pies on the back)... no false advertising here! This pie was FILLED with beef (the nice stuff - no chewy grisly offcuts here!!!), just the right amount of cheese and gravy and such heavenly crisp pastry! I'm afraid they have spoilt me and now I KNOW what a real pie taste likes there is no going back to the cheap and re-heated pies from the petrol stations and other cafes for this gal... Thanks Pioneer Pies team... you have a new disciple!!! I shall sing your praises whenever and wherever I can Keep up the great work! XXX ps $7.80 for this pie is an absolute steal... it's a meal in itself!

Without a doubt, the best pies in Auckland! An amazing array of flavours to try and I love that the meat is always jam packed and non fatty. Recently also tried their gluten free and veggie pies - delicious! A pretty special family run business that I have no hesitation in recommending.

Great vegan and vegetarian options. It's my go to pie shop and never had a bad pie. With really great customer service

Pies are fantastic here, heaps of filling and delicious creamy sauces. I have called in here several times and it's always hard to decide which pie to choose as they are all excellent! The best part is that they are handcrafted,no persevatives/organic, along with a great selection of vegetarian/vegan options.

Amazing customer service and choice. Open 7 days!! Highly recommend. Family business handcrafting quality pies using organic ingredients. Vegan and GF options too

Tried the mince and cheese pie (a kiwi classic) and was delighted with how delicious it was. My boyfriend had the breakfast pie with egg and bacon and it was equally as wonderful! Usually, with the breakfast pies I get disappointed by the sauce added but there was no sauce in this one and it was delicious!

I googled Vegan pies and this is one of the first companies that popped up. We visited today and were pleasantly surprised at the variety of both vegan and vegetable options! We tried the vegetable curry and our daughter had the quorn butter chicken. We were all smiles and I was extra impressed by the great varieties of vegetables in our ones, I spotted chickpeas, potatoes, kumara? corn, brocolli and cauliflower. I highly recommend and I can't wait to try the rest. Handy location and ample parking at the back near Kell park which is a nice spot to enjoy them :-)

Love that they have gluten free pies, little but pricey but honestly can’t complain. Staff are lovely and helped recommend which to try based on my tastes. They do have a wide variety. Partner loves his too!!

Some times you want warm a mrs macs pie from the dairy and some times you want to actually love yourself. Cannot go wrong with their butter chicken pie

Pie of the day is only $4. Butter chicken pie is a solid favourite from me and friends here.

Pretty unassuming place but I'm never disappointed. If you like the pies, you can always take away frozen versions as well.

My friend got some pies for him and me from this shop at eco green expo food stall in ASB show ground. Their sign says famous pie in Albany, but we don't know what is famous for. Tasteless, tiny filling, dry burn taste pastry. We can't recognise what kind of pie, because filling was so little. It was not cheap pie. We were expected good quality because of the price. When we eat the pie (I don't want to call it pie), we already outside, otherwise we were coming back the stall to demand refund.

This pie shop sold pies at Green Expo. My husband bought mince pie @$6. When he had it on his hand, pie was so light. When he bited pie, almost NO filling inside. I tasted, No taste. The pastry was so so dry. The texture was cardboard. It was shocking really! If they think this is only 2 days event sale so they just can make money and gone, that's wrong. Frozen $2 pie in supermarket is much better than this. I just can't believe what they sale. I gave 1.0 rating because this is lowest I can do, but I wanted negative 100.

If you are ever craving a pie or are hungover...defiantly make your way to here. They have lots of really good options and various flavours I personally haven't found in other bakeries when looking for a good pie.

Delicious pies! If you eat in they serve the pie with a side salad, but the stand out performer are the pies.
Light and crisp pastry with a selection of fillings. My favourite has to be the pork belly with caramalised apple (its a has piece of crackling on the top of the pie)
But the steak and Guinness is also delicious, there is also a very tasty vegetarian pie. You can also buy them cold to take home, buy in bulk and get a discount!

Great coffee, great pies and great service. Pies are also available to takeaway and freeze for later which we often do. Service is super friendly and meals can be ordered. It would be nice if a few more rolls were available but perhaps there isn't the custom for it.

Picked up some pies today, they were amazing!! Pork belly kumara and apple pie and the chicken mushroom and tarragon pie - the best pies I have ever eaten! Definitely going to go there again, I think I'll become a regular :)

Dropped into this joint for what we thought was going to be dinner. There was'nt much in the pie warmers so the guy there (chef?) asked us if we wanted some fresh ones coming straight out of the oven, to which we accepted.

I had a steak and blue vein, and my mate had a chicken and mushroom or something. We were eating in, so went and took a seat. We had a breif look at their drinks selection but were'nt amazed. The fridge didnt seem to be organised or well stocked. I looked around for water as I was a bit thirsty but there was none. After sitting down, we were served within 5 minutes. The pies came out on a plate with a small side of salad, drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Salad was grated carrot, which looked and tasted old, and the lettuce was old and limp, quite disgusting overall, but the vinegar disguised it alot - praise the lord for vinegar!

In terms of the pies themselves, excellent pastry, delicious filling - probably one of the best tasting pies I have had. On the bad side, they were very small.

In summary, the pies probably need to be a bit bigger and more filling for the amount charged, you cant really say it even qualifies as a light meal (which is why we went there). The way that the pies are dished up with salad is good, but the salad needs to be fresh and not old. Finally, the outdoor seating area was frankly a mess, mis matched, some old couch sitting there, was generally untidy with rubbish about the place along with dishes on the tables etc, just plain grotty looking. Perhaps this company needs to focus on what they do best, the PIES. Personally I'd get rid of most of the outdoor area and only leave a few neat tables outside.

We have had pies from Pioneer Pies in Albany on a number of occasions and decided to grab some pies for dinner yesterday. They have a wide range of truly gourmet varieties and we were tempted by the pork belly and apple, kumara and mince, steak and cheese, steak and blue cheese, chicken tarragon and mushroom. All are made with the proper pastry for pies (short crust pastry), and were filled to the brim with ingredients. Special mention to the chicken, tarragon, and mushroom which is superb. The blue vein cheese was not as strong as usual, but still tasty. Other favourites are the steak and red wine, and the steak and Guinness - in both these pies the steak is moist and chunky, and the flavour of the wine/Guinness comes through. This is what we like about Pioneer Pies - that you can discern and taste all the ingredients rather the filling being a mash. Overall if you like pies this is well worth a visit.

Excellent pies! Pastry and fillings to die for. The two kids and I had three pies and three smoothies and left very satisfied. We took 6 cold pies home (takeaways!) to heat and eat later.
