Review Sai Rung Thai Restaurant - Albany

Matt
Delicious food the Thai laksa was full of flavour and the duck was cooked perfectly. So many options on the menu. It was quiet when we went but nice atmosphere good but of parking in the evening. Super friendly staff and they made sure all our needs were catered for and that our table always had a full jug of water. Small things go a long way!

Close to authentic. Good for family and dates. Warm and cozy atmosphere. Nice decoration. Good selection of drinks. A wide variety of great tasting dishes with good portion. Average $40 per person without drinks. Loved the duck salad and fried snapper salad. Most people won't be disappointed.

Offering a great range of authentic traditional Thai dishes, I was able to greatly enjoy their signature Green Curry served Thai hot alongside steamy rice and some greens. The blend of coconut milk, chilli heat and added sweetness was stellar! Extra in-house thai chilli on the side was available on request. The interior of the restaurant was immaculate, and the staff were very kind and welcoming. Would absolutely recommend this gem of a place, don't be turned around by the location of the restaurant!

Excellent service , Tom yum soup & appetizers were good , sizzling duck was amazing other main dishes were nice but some lacking salt ,over all great experience.

Had Laksa, Duck Green Curry and tom yum. All tasted nice, but the Tom yum was a bit too salty and too strong flavour. Green curry was my favourite the duck meat was so good, very tender, succulent , no smell. Recommend adding duck neat to any of your choice of main meal.

Great place to eat! We had a big group and a couple of meals took a while to get out, but probably understandable with lots of people. Recommend for lunch or dinner.

Have been here a few times now and love the place! Service is prompt, staff are friendly, the vibe is nice, and the food is wonderful! The sizzling pork plate is a little bit too sweet for my taste but it was cooked very well and I still really enjoyed it. Consistently a good experience here:) would recommend

What can I say, but beautifully and superbly made Pad Thai with a generous portion for the price. Don't let that photo deceive you as underneath the salad dressings and the waffle pattern egg there is enough to feed almost 2 adults. The taste was good and the venue and atmosphere was quite calming. The banana split was also well done, as pictured. Overall if you're looking for good food that doesn't break the bank, this is where you go.

We have tried their Duck Laksa and Duck Salad. It was Ssssooooo delicious 😋 . Will come back with friends again.

Food was great. Had mild cashew stir fry. Next time I would not have entree just becuase of the size of the main. Not so loud that you couldn't have good conversation.

Been here for lunch the last two days while working at a local business. I was very impressed by the flavours, service as well as the reasonable price of the lunch menu. Meals were well presented and came out very fast. Highly recommend this for a beautiful thsi food experience.

Love the food here, always fresh and super delicious. Lots of options and the lunch menu is really well priced for decent sized meals. Staff are always very friendly and flexible with big groups. Plenty of parking available. I recommend the stir fry cashews 😋❤️

Absolutely Beautiful, Authentic Thai Cuisine... A+ Food Presentation A+ Quality Flavour

The food is OK, not the best Thai, but also not the worst. Used to go quite regularly for lunch, but in recent years the lunch specials have gone up quite a bit since pre covid prices, so can't go as often now. Still a good place to go to get out of the office for a sit down lunch now and again.

I was told the deep fried tofu is cooked separately from the meat but later found out that it's actually cooked in the same deep fryer as meat. There is sometimes a strong communication barrier so if you have food allergies or are vegan or vegetarian just keep that in mind. The food is very tasty otherwise.

I came here semi-regularly because my workplace was nearby. Lunch or takeaway after work, their food never disappoints and is done to the exact level of spice I like. Customer service is amazing and restaurant is always clean and pristine. I do recommend trying something new when you visit as it never disappointed me and they have an extensive menu to suit anyone.

The food is actually quite good and authentic. But the service is not very polite as previous reviews also pointed out. We had some good experiences in previous years but unfortunately not today. The restaurant was quite empty today and I don't think I'll visit them again.

The food tasted very authentic. However, the service was quite poor and the lady serving us was very rude and snobby. Good thing another server took over and he was much more polite.

The pad thai's serving size is very big that 1 order should be enough for 2 people. I also think that the appetizers are a bit too overpriced considering the serving size and the quality.

Was excited to try a new Thai place close to Greenhithe but was sadly disappointed. I had the peanut sauce stir fry with tofu and it seemed like crushed peanuts and water.. there was hardly any flavour and what I could taste wasn’t great :( My partner had the Red Duck curry and it just didn’t taste traditional and was also watery :(

Sorry to say that this is the worst Thai meal I have never had in my life so far.
We ordered :Entree- Fried chicken wing (average quality)- Tom Kha (Chicken coconut soup) : It was so salty. I need to pour in some drinking water from my glass to dilute it. They put cabbage into the soup besides of 6 pcs of cutted white mushroom. Never seen this element in this soup before. Worst but not least, I found a few pcs of onion skin in the soup. (See pics). Not happy eating food scraps thou. Cost : $11.90
Main :Duck Red Curry and Green Curry. Taste not authentic. The consistency of the gravy in the curry is the same as Tom Kha Soup. Very watery.
* Rice doesn't come with the curry. You have to pay extra for the rice. I have eaten in many other Thai restaurants. You pay for per person and rice is refillable. Here rice is $2.50 per bowl. The funny/worst part is they put a soup spoon standing right up straight in the rice and serve you like this. (See pic) .
I don't think you would understand this if you are not Chinese or Japanese. This is very rude and bad luck. Chinese would do this when they have someone died in the family. Similar meaning for Japanese.
* Service was bad and the lady looks very cold (without even a smile). * Restaurant's ambience is not good at all. * Price not cheap, quality not good.

Waste of our money. Ordered medium spiced food and they cooked us extra spicy food and not wanting to replace. Waste of time management.. even was rude enough to explain to me how spicy food thai is

I'm glad I tried this restaurant for the first time with First Table. The restaurant is not too badly laid out and presented, the menu was comprehensive, and the service was good.
However, if I had paid full price for our food I would not have been happy. We ordered chicken satay sticks, green curry, sizzling duck breast, and the hot banana coconut dessert.
Green Curry was fine, nothing special but you'd enjoy it enough. A bit watery.
Sizzling Roasted Duck was not up to standard. 7 pieces for $26 is a total rip off. It is one of their more expensive platters and does not deserve to be. Flavour was sub-par and breast was a little dry. I'd rather go to my local chinese restaurant and get a full half a duck for that price.
Banana dessert was warming and tasty and a nicer note to end our meal on.
We were not happy with paying an extra $2.50 for rice. Rice is so cheap it should be complementary. At the very least one bowl should be provided per person at no cost.

Overall Sai Rung Thai was an ok experience with ok food. There are better Thai restaurants so we will be sticking with those. I can relate to the lower reviews on Zomato, and it's a shame the restaurant owner cannot take criticism well. This would really help to make them a higher-class restaurant if they did.

Ordered chicken Padthai via Uber eats. Very happy with what I received. Tasted amazing, large portions and fresh food. Will definitely be returning.

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience. They delivered a Pad Thai to my house which had absolutely no flavour, and tasted as though it had been sitting out for hours. It was very expensive which is why I felt as though they should know about it. However, when we called to let them know, they became instantly defensive and blamed it on our house being too far away. Their attitude was absolutely terrible. Do not provide a service if you’re going to reject any feedback!! I’m so disappointed and will not be be eating here again.

I have read all the detail here mostly wrong because we been there for many time in my opinion need to be update all details for others customers, they have changed some food and the pic of food here never been on their menu, I love their Pad Thai very popular some of spices not too sweet food, would highly recommend this place I keep taking my friends for dinner
Simone
Not very clean place and food is average. I would not recommend it and not worth the amount they charge. There are far better Thai restaurants in Auckland
Emily
Ordered pad thai. The most bland I've ever had- No vegetables, couldn't find any egg etc. Only chicken and shit tonne of noodles.. but it wasn't flavourful. Overpriced for what it is

These guys deliver for free to my location (on orders over $50 I think) so when we crave a little Thai on a lazy night, they're out go-to. Food is delicious and fast, and one time that I picked up I had a chat with the waitress who was absolutely lovely.
Jen
Went here on a Sunday night for dinner with friends on a Groupon voucher.
Was very quiet only one other table booked.
The place was nicely lit and decorated.
Felt a bit rushed when it came to placing our order and once the order came the waitress forgot one of our order.

We had 2 chicken Larb Gai salad, Tom Yum Seafood soup and chicken Pad Thai with 3 rice bowls. The total came to $80.70.
The best dish for us was the Pad Thai with least favourite being the salads costing $21.90 for a plate it was very sour and very lacking in taste.

Food: 2.8
Ambiance: 3
Customer service: 3
Average food. Bought a 3 course voucher and so entree was below average. Main was decent but could find that quality at a take away place. Dessert was below average too.
Staff were arguing with another customer which was distracting.
Overall experience was below average.
Amanda
Bought the lunch special, pad thai for $10.50. The online website was easy to navigate, and food was ready in 15 minutes. Unfortunately, the pad thai wasnt nice. There wasnt really any flavour. Wouldnt order pad thai from here again

They changed name, but the phone number is the same. I ordered Thai sticky rice which is shown on their menu, but they do not have it. They have special for lunch dishes, and you can also have a lunch loyalty card. 8 lunch dishes can gain one free lunch dish. Food is quite good; )

Pretty average, got a seafood stir fry and wasn't exiting at all, squids, 2 scallops, 2 prawns and some beans, broccoli, carrots. The sauce was quite nice tough

Was great....but changed owners, price went up and quality went down. We were regulars, but after two very mediocre visits we now avoid like the plague.
Yvonne
The new staff is extremely slow..he day dreams while I sit at a table staring at him for 10 minutes, any attempt in trying to wave him over failed. It's not the first time, I have come less because I would not be able to make it back to work in time. The past staff were never like this. It is highly disappointing and this is even before food is served...

This is our go to Thai place. We live in Greenhithe and our offices are in Albany. Have been going here for years and we really like the food, it is reasonably priced and the staff are always lovely.
Arifah Wright
Had the tom yum rice noodle soup for lunch and it was so good and for $12.50 you can't complain! It is worth going if you want something quick and cheap!

Meh....... Its an okay restaurant with a decent set up. There was hardly any staff around to wait on us and the food was okay. This was an ordinary experience in every aspect. But if you are in the area and have a hankering for Thai, try it. But don't expect too much.Food 3/5, Price 3.5/5, Service 3/5

Amazing Thai food...great service...good portions.......one of our favourite Thai places on the shore......Quick delivery around upper harbour area.........

Wow, amazing restaurant the service was superb along with the food from entree to main course, all the meals all were presented beautifully and of pure Thai delight in taste and flavors .
Definitely highly recommend this establishment to friends who seek good quality service and food , equals the service and meals of Khaomao-Khaofang Restaurant in Chiang Mai
Absolutely Brilliant
Would given 9.5 out of 10 if was permitted as "5" seems mean!

Ordered lunch today and was a bit miffed that staff food was cooked before my and other customers takeaways. When questioned, lady told me customers had ordered food at 11am, no one was sitting at the table???
On a positive note, food was great, rating was given for service only.

The best value for money Thai restaurant. Have been back time and time again. Lunch specials at $10 are great if I am in the neighbourhood .
However its the Banquet my family of 4 makes that is hard to beat. 5 assorted main dishes shared between us with a BYO bottle of wine to stretch the budget and a couple of soft drinks all for around $110 (no seafood)
My go to place for a family treat.
Rachel F
We had to wait more than 45 minutes for takeaways despite being told it would be 15 minutes on the phone and after waiting 35 minutes were told it would be another 2 minutes. Food is always good but this level of service is completely unacceptable.
Kristi Adele Churches
Best pad thai, best chicken and cashew nut. When you ask for medium, you get medium and I LOVE the pad thai medium. DELISH!

The girls know my lunch time order and will even bring it out to my car if I'm busy doing errands. How is that for service.
Tess Karlsson
The food is great but bad customer service, I find the lady behind the counter extremely rude, I have been here a number of times and she is always the same, for that reason I am put off the place now and I won't be back. The food though has always been yummy.
Imran Dole
Can't go wrong with the Cashew Nut stir fry here, or one of the noodle dishes I believe it's number 42.

Pace and service would be why it wouldn't get four stars otherwise it's all good!
Bramford Horton
I have been to more Thai restaurants than I can count and this place does the best by far.

Order their 'Pad Med Mamuang' (Cashew nut) with chicken and get it medium (it's not too spicy, just enough to tingle the taste buds).

I am so fortunate that of all the Thai restaurants I've been to, this is the one that is right accross the road from my work.

Very quite night when we went. There was no one at the counter to seat us. When we were seated, it took a long time for the waiter to take our order. I ordered the duck red thai curry which was roast duck from chinese take aways fried in red curry paste. There was almost no gravy and very oily. Very disapointing as i love thai red curries...

First visit tonight and it was very good. One of the only restaurants to understand the concept of customer service and the way to treat guests. Food was very nice and overall it was good value for money meal. Will be going back very soon.

Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Wow. Amazing customer service and amazing thai food. We rang tonight for delivery to Greenhithe which was all good until it came to payment time - they said they could only take cash or cheque as their EFTPOS terminal couldn't do manual transactions. We didn't have cash on us and were really hard on them for not taking our VISA details over the phone. The girl was lovely despite us being a little frustrated, she said she'd talk to her manager and come back to us. And then she actually did all of 2 minutes later and found a way to make it work. Then she personally delivered the food to us to make sure we were happy with it... and we were. Gorgeous thai green curry, pad thai and ginger chicken along with the satay chicken skewers. As I write this hubby and I are sitting stuffed on the couch, trying to decide what we'll order from them next time. Big ticks from us!!!!!

This restaurant is visited by us frequently and it is simply the best Thai food you will find. I can say this as I have visited a number of Thai places in New Zealand and Australia and have never found a Pad Thai anywhere as good as this place. Highly recommended!
