Review La Rumbla - Arrowtown

Maestro
Small menu, but impactful. Lovely atmosphere, but I found my U-seat a bit too small. Well-balanced coastal dishes and acidity from lemon slices help cut through salt and oil if you find it excessive. All dishes were well made, but I found the octopus to be slightly over-charred and a bit bitter at the end.

Amazing restaurant! Was recommended by a friend. All the dishes were great, we especially liked the cheese curd and kale croquettes and the blue cod dishes. I think the chef must be superb. The staff were friendly and had good knowledge of the wines. The atmosphere was cosy and the chairs were very comfortable. I like how the music wasn't too loud so you could hear each other talk.

This is a great place to eat and the staff were very obliging and the service and food were excellent. Unfortunately, because of loud thumping base music and the fact that there were wooden floors, the noise level was EXTREME which took away the enjoyment of a pleasant evening. They did oblige by turning the music level down which helped except the number of patrons who all had raised voices in order to be heard just made the atmosphere awful. I suffer from a condition called Misophonia which is a sensitivity to loud, extreme and persistent noise. It would be so nice to have some gentle music at a pleasant volume so one could relax and enjoy the food and have a calming ambience.

Service is great and a nice atmosphere. Huge wine and beer lists, selection is pretty good. Food was tasty and felt very fresh. The oxtail was a highlight, as was the calamari. The portions are very large, great for large groups. If you're a less than 4 people, I'd only order 2-3 things to start and then see if you need more.

Thanks to the amazing host for finding us a table even though we walked in - we didn’t have anything booked for the night and were blown away by the wonderful food and service here. Everything from the side salad (which many restaurants put little effort into) to the beef was beautifully presented and all the flavours were well thought out. Great addition to the Arrowtown food scene, loved visiting this town and loved this restaurant

Excellent. Fantastic food, first class hospitality and service, a cosy classy atmosphere and a wide selection of drinks. I don't know what else to say other than you should absolutely visit and experience it for yourself. Do make sure you bookwell in advance though.

So. Good. Trip advisor had this ranked #1 restaurant in the area and after trying I can see why. Trendy and classy in atmosphere, but not to make up for poor food. Everything was fresh, made in-house, and paired perfectly with the friendly and helpful staff. A bit expensive but worth the splurge as the quality of the ingredients shone through magnificently.

Outstanding. Amazing service and food. Plates are designed to be shared so you get the opportunity to taste a wider selection of the menu. We had four dishes between two which was ample. A tuna ceviche, wagyu beef, squid and a seared duck breast. All incredible and very well balanced. Now if we hadn't taken an extensive run through a stand out cocktail and beer selection, which you should take in also, we might have got away with spending under $100. Four plates, four cocktails, two craft beers and a lovely dessert wine later we ran close to $250 excluding tip. Worth every cent. You will not be disappointed.

Great service and atmosphere. The tapas were delicious. Very high quality food and interesting tapas set-up. Don't expect to be very cheap if you are going there to have a full dinner, but definitely worth trying. I'd go back there any time.

Very much satisfied with this great restaurant. All the dishes were really good, especially the lamb was amazing. If anything, I wished they had better quality meat like Wagyu and Kurobuta pork as that would match perfectly with their amazing cooking skills. 100% recommend.

Paella is divine, both vegetarian and seafood. Brownie was amazing too! I don’t have good photos unfortunately but I loved the ambience, live music was great. Service is stellar, no complaints

Overseas tourists in our early 30s and la Rumbla was our first dining experience in NZ. It set the bar high! The Menu was smaller than expected, but it was clear it was fine tuned to perfection. For a table of two, they four shared plates. They can also make half portions so you can sample more dishes. We loved everything we tried, but special call out for the Calamari and the Octopus. Our only complaint was that they delivered our salad last, which was odd placement as we weren’t interested after eating all the heavy dishes. Staff was attentive and gave excellent recommendations. Highly recommend la Rumbla in Arrowtown!

Great food, great service and I loved the atmosphere here. Although it's a little restaurant tucked away in Arrowtown I can't wait to come back here again and bring some more friends

My favourite dinner of our whole trip. We've been here a few times now & they never disappoint but the dinner we had on the 30/7 seemed to be kicked up a notch. I honestly couldn't fault a single dish or cocktail & the staff as always were warm & friendly. The portions were spot on & from memory we had the calamari, pork carnitas, beef & bravas & all were perfect, I wouldn't be able to choose a favourite. The atmosphere is always enjoyable & I'm already looking forward to coming again on our next trip.

Tapas-style food done superbly well. Central location but hidden away from the crowds with a cool outdoor courtyard. Staff are young, friendly and enthusiastic. The ceviche is highly recommended!

We had a late booking 830pm but all the staff were very professional, sweet and hard working. The food was a great recommendation from our accommodation host and I wouldn't go past Arrowtown without trying it. The cocktails were made well and in the end we over-ate even with "small" share plates. Fantastic experience guys!

If Arrowtown is a gold mine than La Rumbla is the best find of the day. What a beauty of a place. We tried the beet root and goats cheese tostados, Atlantic scallops, chicken and pepper, potatoes bravas, and kale croquettes (ordered from show stoppers to last place finish) paired with a bottle of local Sauvignon Blanc. Each dish was something special. The tostados were next level, and the well balanced flavours of the scallops, delicious! Personally I would skip the croquettes and double down on the beet root, however the potatos of the brava we’re some of the best I’ve ever had.

This was such a great experience to have the entire dinner menu picked by staff based on a limited knowledge of our group. We shared 8 dishes amongst 5 of us and it was absolutely beautiful! The best ceviche I've had so far. Also great wine pick and just the right amount of attention from the stuff. Absolutely loved it. Great atmosphere, affordable, delicious and quality dining.

Where does one begin to describe the wonder that is La Rumbla in Arrowtown. From the moment you walk in, you feel at home. The ever changing menu contains magical bites ranging from beetroot and goat cheese bites to coconut fried chicken and slow roasted pork fillets. Beautiful wine list and bespoke cocktails. Beautiful open restaurant which allows each table their own space without feeling cramped. Attentive staff who are well versed in their menu and beverage list option. Always service with a smile! PJ and staff really believe in treating you like family. Always are pleasure and definitely worth the trip to Arrowtown!

We had an absolutely fabulous meal tonight. The best octopus, blue cod cerviche and wagu beef. Top service and a great wine list. Highly recommended.

Ate at the bar last night as the tables were fully booked - and now I know why. From the decor, to the lovely staff, from the amazing cocktails to the exquisite food, I honestly haven’t had service or produce like it since leaving Ireland and European travel. I had octopus on my honeymoon in Croatia and it was mediocre; here, it was cooked perfectly and the accompanying flavours felt like more than decoration. Honestly can’t wait to return - well worth the money - and I highly recommend a Mango Margarita!

Just the best place for a great meal and a cocktail, staff are amazing, knowledgeable and so friendly.

Absolutly amazing restaurant! Service was excellent and each dish was cooked to perfection. I love tapas style eating and sharing and each dish was like heaven! I will be back to try more dishes for sure! Having lived in Queenstown for 4 years iv dinned out at many restaurants and this one tops the lot!! Also has an amazing cocktail menu!! 12/10!! Love it!!

An amazing restaurant. A hidden gem literally , as they aren't allowed any signage on Buckingham Street. Menu is sharing but the portions are much more generous than you would get in London ! Consider it to be an upscaled very high quality tapas menu , which has daily specials ( that will run out !) The wine list is equally impressive. Best dinner to date in New Zealand !!!

This is my favourite restaurant in the Wakatipu basin hands down. staff are warm and friendly. Relaxing asthteicly pleasing surroundings. The ever-changing Tapas menu allows you to customise you're experience and match with a craft beer or wine. Love this place. Keep up the good work guys. I'll be seeing you again soon. Sam and Sandi.

Our favourite place to eat in Queenstown. Great atmosphere, fantastic service, delicious food and a good wine selection. They even go the extra mile and have a GF option for 95% of the menu. A must visit but remember to book!

La Rumbla has a fantastic cozy vibe, the dim lighting was enough to enhance the mood without playing hide and seek with your food in the dark. Great service from the moment we walked in, the door was opened for us and water poured by the time we were seated. We ordered the beetroot, goats cheese tostadas which were a great start as the saltiness of the cheese paired perfectly with the sweetness of the beetroot. Next we had the calamari which unfortunately was slightly over cooked and were also quite oily. This was followed by the grilled octopus, pickled fennel and capers which was the highlight of the night perfectly executed dish. Lastly the NZ beef with potatoes, and spring onion. One of the slices of beef was predominantly fat and the dish in total felt like it was missing something. Although we didn’t go out with a bang the overall experience was pleasant with some quality dishes.

A place that comes into its own during the evening in the dark. Perhaps its post modern ambience had more impact because it is surrounded by architecture of an earlier time. So yes, it's different and yes, it's nice. Good for able bodied diners. Not good for those less mobile. The chairs can be too high for people with mobility issues to safely sit. They have the flexibility to change their seating arrangements so book a table and specify low seating.

Busy, buzzing little place that was rocking it the night we dined.  Tapas style menu designed for sharing, plates that come out as and when in keeping with tapas dining.  Not a place for a romantic tryst, as it's noisy and a bit crammed in tight, but great for speedy service and a light meal.  The food was great, and the service friendly.  Some of the seating is on bar stools at tables which is great if you are agile and tallish.  I was happy to be given a table with normal chairs as I am neither!  Good cocktail menu too.
