Review Bendix Stables - Arrowtown

Update after two and a half years: came again with my parents. Awesome as always and this time we ordered chargrilled steak again and also tacos. My parents enjoyed the food too. The steak is a little bit overcooked, but that might be the nature of chargrilling. This is the first time I try chargrilled steak. Really different from pan fried ones, and I like it.

Welcoming and accommodating staff, small but interesting and enticing menu, stunning fresh vegetable combination and cooked to perfection, great salads carefully prepared with enticing garnish, and small but interesting wine selection, most available by the glass. And desserts to match. I could go on....

We had a late lunch here. It's a beautiful place. The food was tasty and well priced. If you can, sit outside & enjoy the sunshine.

Called in for lunch on a Sunday of a long weekend and so probably the busiest time for the staff. They all remained calm, smiles all round and super friendly. They explained that there was an hour wait for the food, which was fine by us. Chose two smaller dishes which was perfect for a lazy arvo. Thumbs up team, keep up the good work. 👍👏👌

Loved dinner here. Service was great food was cooked to perfection. I had the porterhouse steak and my wife had the pork belly and roasted duck Bao. We finished off with the Apple and rhubarb crumble which was the perfect mix of sweet and sour. Will be back one day.

Perfect setting with grass area and huge rock for kids to play on while you eat. Food was delicious and very well presented. We sat outside but unfortunately both heaters were out of gas. Blankets were available at each table which was a lovely touch to sum up the overall great experience.

Had the burger and pork belly bites. Lovely service and great atmosphere, food arrived with good timming and was awesome. Thank you for the great meal

It is very good. Delicious dishes and nice place. I ordered pork belly and my son had gravy chips. Small plate contains a good portion which is enough for me

Had the most delicious sole fillet here. Good service, friendly staff, wide range of beers and a lovely lawn to just chill.

We loved the food at Bendix Stables. We couldn't decide which of the three dishes we ordered we liked best. The flavours were so original, delicate and interesting. Tasty, flavourful, beautifully presented. Topped off with a lovely glass of Otago pinot noir and an excellent cappacino. We were celebrating a hard days work and delighted to have chosen this restaurant which we have visited a number of times over the years.

We had the cheeseburger and pork belly burger. I would give the cheeseburger 3/5, lettuce wasn’t needed, bacon could of been crisper, and the pork belly was given 5/5. Nice place to sit inside out of the rain. Service was friendly and cheery and the food came out quickly despite the 45mins delay warning. Would come back, and maybe try another dish.

We stopped off here for a delicious lunch. Really friendly staff. When it started to rain, we escaped inside and had a brilliant spot looking out. Would definitely recommend a visit here if you’re in the area.

Really great, exceptional food, lovely & helpful staff. Get here at opening to avoid a wait for food as very popular but it’s worth waiting for and is right next to the Buckingham Green so excellent space for the kids to play. We had the cheeseburgers, popcorn chicken, chicken tacos & chips all excellent! Beautiful spot and atmosphere highly recommend.

Lovely Staff. Gorgeous afternoon sunlight under magnificent old tree. Best duckfat spuds ever! Great Expresso Martini. Highly recommend.

Highly recommended place for a night out - food is great - wine selection is good - staff are great and the atmosphere is relaxing and inviting.

The food was okay nothing special. Sticky date pudding was burnt. Blue cheese sauce that came with the steak was the highlight of the meal. Potato’s were roasted in duck fat but were not crispy at all. Pork belly was average.

I will probably wont come back to this place. Portions are quite small. They said the lunch steak only comes out well done but each steak were different size some very small and medium cooked. Overall waste of time and money.

For those who enjoy a sense of colonial, Victorian, pioneer aura, this location will have some attraction on a cold night with the fires burning. Maybe it is not truly authentic but that's a minor point. A menu for meat and grill but interspersed with some other options. A friendly and attentive staff.

This place is soooo good. Beautiful outdoor setting, great friendly service and omg the food...easily in the top 10 meals I've ever eaten. I had the rib eye steak in a garlic butter with potatoes roasted in duck fat. We also shared the broccoli which came with almonds. Would definitely recommend.

Stumbled upon this little gem tucked down a path in the middle of the main street of arrow town, nice backdrop of the mountains, staff were very lovely and the food was absolutely awesome, i got the chicken sandwich which was probably the best i've ever had, partner was very happy with his eggs Benedict, cannot wait to come back next time we're in arrow town!

Great restaurant. Portions could be larger, but the food was very tasty and the service was very friendly. This is also not that expensive either. I sat in the patio and the atmosphere was beautiful. Would definitely recommend.

The food was very appealing to the eyes, plus wonderful customer service however the food was a bit of a let down. I wasn't too happy with my dish as the pork wasn't soft that when you cut it, it just falls out easily. It was stiff and fatty and hardly any meat to eat. I did love the poach pear, it was a nice sweetness that went with the dish.

Fantastic. Myself and my partner found this place when we came over on a holiday from Australia. It was our favourite restaurant on our trip to the south island, friendly service and comfy little outdoor table settings.<br/><br/>Our favourites were the garlic loaf, parmesan paprika puffs and the lamb for main. I hope we get a chance to come back again!

Set along Arrowtowns town green, you definitely could not ask for more especially on a warm sunny afternoon dining alfresco, soaking up of the last of the summer sun.<br/><br/>Food here (lunch) is affordable and not overly priced and offers a good selection of your usual pub flair.<br/><br/>I ordered the slow roasted lamb shoulder with gnocchi - succulent and tender chunks of lamb in a deep, rich tomato sauce....<br/><br/>Please visit my website for an indepth review.

Actually I am from Sydney, Australia. We visited this fine establishment a few years ago with our Kiwi mates and I had the most memorable seared scallops ever as an entree-they need to be reintroduced at whatever cost!.A week ago i had the wondrous seafood chowder for lunch and we then booked for dinner a few days later. i had the venison pie, which was superb, a trifle sweet, maybe a few juniper berries to round off the red current jelly?<br/>I may cook this pie at the NSW Wine &amp; Food Society in 2012<br/>i ordered the same wine as we had previously, The Jim Barry Cover Drive Cabernet, a great match. <br/>The ambiance and service was great as was the Chef's conversation with me. I will return!
