Review Giapo - Auckland Central

The staff helped with all the questions we had about the variety of cones and ice cream flavors. They were all so tasty and worth the wait. 10/10 I would definitely go back. It was a bit pricey but worth every penny

Absolutely delicious ice-cream and well worth a visit! We had the buono (caramel hazelnut praline amaretti) and a chocolate one - both flavours are some of the best ice-cream that we've eaten.
Sean L.
Superb ice cream experience! Went with a broken cone and the Bueno ice cream with all the toppings. Really good tasting ice cream plus the extra toppings really made it delicious. Nice combination of sweet and almost Smokey.

I got a huge ice cream, but thankfully I eating so fast so it won’t melt away! Honey pokey is great, chunky crispy cookie is the lighting in ice cream. Another flavor dark chocolate is boring to me. Cone is crispy but hasn’t any special for it. Anyway it’s delicious!

This was on our list of must-visit places in NZ, and we are so glad we came! It is without a doubt the most outrageous ice cream shop I have ever been to. The ice cream itself is delicious — we had rich, luscious Creamy Coconut and Buono (caramel, praline, and amaretti) — but what truly sets this place apart are the off the wall creative ideas for how to present the ice cream. We spent big bucks and went whole hog by ordering both the Colossal Squid Cone and the Rescue Heli Cone. Think cone, ice cream, then lots of chocolate dipped coolness on top for fun. We LOVED them. The servers were really great, too. They explained what we would be getting and were great sports about me taking videos of them as they worked. The ice cream melted quickly, and we were both sticky messes by the time we finished them, but it was SO worth it!

the presentation of the ice cream is very beautiful, the taste is OK. Maybe I didn't make the right choice.

Fantastic ice cream! Great flavours and nicely mounted!! Highly recommended!!!

Yea we all know sugary stuff ain’t healthy but… we all need a treat sometimes yes? And what lovely treats one can get from Giapo. Firstly, the people - so sincere in finding the right flavour for your enjoyment with patient and rather generous samples of all the amazing options they have. Secondly… the combination of gelato resting on a donut… get out of here… I really enjoyed my banana something something on the donut. My companion loved her Christchurch Hazelnut too. This is my perfect treat for a hectic day and I hope it can be for you too.

Best ice cream in town, their waffle cone is amazing!

Best Icecream in Auckland! Highly recommend the "Buono" flavour! Flavours tend to change as the seasons change, but also there are a few staple flavours. Friendly staff and now has an ordering system to pickup when the ice cream is ready. Nice sheltered heated area to sit down and eat your ice cream, even if outside is a bit chilli.
Alex
Simply delicious, must do in Auckland! Super helpful service, we tried a few flavours until we found the ones we liked. “The Nem” flavour was my favourite. Heaps of cone options. Presentation was awesome and it tasted amazing - loved all the toppings!
Sam Riggs
Great ice cream. The serving process is so easy. Order at one end, get out the way and pick up at the other end of the shop. Makes it so much faster than having to wait for each individual order to be made while one person waits for it at the front of the queue.

Service and food is always top notch. Been going to Giapo for years and years since it opened and can't get enough of it. Every flavour is good too!

Came here for dessert after a meal in the city. I'm glad I had saved room in my stomach as the servings here are pretty big. The menu boasts many choices of ice cream and how it's presented. When we couldn't decide they provided us with some nice taster cups which had way more than a typical ice cream store. The ice cream is great here, though, as I mentioned above, the servings are big, so it's probably not the healthiest of options. But let's be honest, you're not going to go here if you're looking for a healthy meal. This place is pure indulgence. Prices are a bit more than your typical ice cream, but there are extras (see the pictures) so you do get your money's worth. Staff were really helpful with everything as well.
Sarah Kristin
Absolutely amazing. Pricey but definitely worth it because the portions are huge! The cones are definitely unique and the ice cream delicious. Staff super friendly, they explained everything to us when we got there and even turned on the heater in the little waiting room when it was getting cold and windy. An absolute must try when you're in Auckland!
Jesse Tio
You come for big, over indulgent ice cream and you get it. Maybe best to share with someone as it's a lot of sweet but it's delicious.

Let me start off by saying, I have been to Giapo many times before and every other experience was great! However this time it was not up to standard. They have removed the option to get your ice cream in a cup... and for someone who hates cones, this was disappointing to say the least. The lady offered to do a ‘broken cone’ as pidtcured which was more expensive than a regular cone. It was GIGANTIC and no one in their right mind could ever eat that much ice cream. They need to control their portions! It’s nice ice cream but point less serving such large amounts if no one can finish it. In my opinion, there are much nicer ice cream parkours such as Duck Island who have MUCH more reasonable prices, different size options and a LOT more flavour choices (also just much nicer ice cream). Probably won’t go again unless they offer cups

Such unique and delicious ice creams, a very special treat! Super awesome that the staff let you try out the flavours before buying! The ice creams are pretty massive so next time I go back I will probably share a cone with my fiancé 😂 but amazing experience, such lovely staff as well :) will be back!

Poor selection of ice cream, not rich, icecream melt quick. Donuts was just a deep flied heavy bread. Had heartburn and left 70%. <br/>Not worse paying $15.

I randomly found this place while walking on the streets of Auckland and hands down to the BEST ICECREAM I've ever haddd<br/>I just wish to travel back to auckland from mumbai to have this one more time.

Been there last week for the first time. It was a long wait(40 minutes) but all the staff were very friendly. Highly recommend.

Lots of new and exciting flavours each time I come here! When there’s no cues, you get inside to try the ice cream fast. Rich, creamy, delicious flavours. The full Giapo experience!<br/>Note: cashless premises so must use eftpos or credit card.

Wow! What an ice cream shop Giapo is !! Amazing concept and favours. In small groups the friendly staff allow everyone a taste of the variety of flavours they offer, you pick one then you then get the choice of an extravagant cone and they then prepare and deliver it out too you . The ice cream flavours are some of the best I’ve had, and the waffle cones are crispy and delicious. The price of the ice creams are not cheap but you most definitely are getting what you pay for, they are very large, extremely filling and are luxurious flavours. A must to purchase when in Auckland.

Have been here 3 times now and will be back to try more flavours! This place exceeded my expectations, their presentation, flavours and customer service are all exceptional! Recently tried their peanut butter and giapo bueno flavours mixed which went really well together! Would highly recommend!

ice cream was not bad.<br/>I think it is too expensive!! T.T

Please bring back the old flavours, waffle cones and cup option! The ice cream is still amazing. However, the cones taste like cardboard.

A unique gelato parlour with an array of quirky flavours and contemporary classics which change out semi regularly.<br/><br/>Sometimes the wait can be a little long, but that’s because every customer or group really is treated with a personal touch and level of care by one of the assistants. The flavours are described to you with a reference sheet upon which samples in miniature metal tubs are placed upon the corresponding flavour to help you come to a decision.<br/><br/>Each flavour comes with its own assortment of toppings and decoration and allergies/dietary requirements are well catered for. I must add that the dairy free options are delicious and not as boring as other dessert bars. <br/><br/>I typically go for a standard scoop in one of the house made amaretto cones (yum) however there’s an excellent assortment of fun (albeit expensive) novelty cones perfect for that special occasion or insta worthy pic.

Oh my lord, 🤳🏼selfie cone @giapokitchen, how many abs did it cost me? <br/><br/>In my favourite flavor from Giapo - Kiss 💋 <br/>Christchurch hazelnut milk chocolate icecream topped with TRUFFLED Almond 🤤🥰 The combination of their hazelnut milk chocolate and almonds were heavenly!! The ice cream was melting really fast so the first snap 📸 was the best one, that’s when it’s just being served from the kitchen 🤎<br/><br/>The selfie frame is made out of dark chocolate, which I gave to my friend to devour, it’s a sizable treat that can be shared 🤪<br/><br/>They have other amazing creations such as the sky tower cone, colossal squid 🦑 cone and wearable lips 👄 but due to the structure of these cones, only the soft serve ice cream flavors can be chosen. <br/><br/>And lastly, don’t forget to take a selfie 🤳🏼<br/>💲Price $23<br/>😋Taste 5/5<br/>📍CBD

We had such lovely service from the team at Giapo Fort St today! My friends had graduated and they really went the extra mile for us. Thanks for making our nights that much better 🍦❤️
HungryBabesSugarApe
If ever there was a way to indulge a 7 year old it’d be this. I wasn’t unprepared for the price as i understand it’s a luxury experience but I have to admit it tasted darn good! Kinda weird that you have to wait around as the gelato is prepared out back to be served...<br/>But they if that’s their business who am I to judge?
Farren Su
Two finger cones, tiny little bit ice cream on top! Definitely not worth for $21!!! And I don’t think they’re tasty! Tiny small place, we stand outside eating with strong wind! Very bad experience! Never come back again!

Posted on Instagram food reviewing account @nourishingmei <br/><br/>Date night the other night part 2! Giapo! We went to giapo around 8:30 and unsurprisingly there was still a long line of people. I got the colossal squid and bf got the sky tower. Giapo is well known for their artistic one of a kind icecreams that often resemble art than icecream (but still taste absolutely amazing). Giapo lets you sample each of their flavours before you spend your $$ on the Mona Lisa of icecreams. Personally I love coffee and tiramisu so it was a no brainer that I got the tiramisu flavour although i was stuck between getting that one or kiss kiss. All of the flavours were equally amazing and there wasn’t a single flavour that I didn’t like. The chocolate that is used to create the squid and the sky tower was dark chocolate (except the sky tower has hints of raspberry around the rings). Also I found it was messy to eat and I loved that they gave us paper containers to eat the icecream over/break off pieces of the icecream art piece so it was easy to eat. Service was 5/5 and staff were nice which was a bonus, a bit of a wait time but I wasn’t fussed as I understood due to the large number of people that visit giapo/the number of orders they have to make with careful detail that there would be a wait. Overall the icecream itself was an experience I’d never forget and was by far the best icecream I’ve ever had due to the dark chocolate balancing out the richness of the tiramisu icecream and the amount of chocolate given/thick cover of chocolate over the icecream 😍. I defo would recommend and make sure you bring your card with you as it’s card only no cash. 5/5 and will be coming back here again
Foodie In Progress
Had spent $23 on this sky tower ice cream, end up throw the chocolate away since it is too rich, the staff member actually mentioned the container is for the chocolate after taking the photo, the ice cream itself taste pretty good, but nothing amazing, finally I was disguised with the ice cream cone, it had a very strange preservative like taste to it, I don't know if it is just my one or all others are the same, definitely a waste of money for a snack, but it is good appearance for photo.

It was quite odd that I had never visited Giapo until now as an icecream addict. I heard it was really good but just never had a chance to go. When I went for the first time last weekend, the staff so kindly explained and got us to try all the flavours. I got the double cone of dark chocolate and giapo buano and it was by far the richest chocolate icecream that I have ever tried. I really really loved em!
Manz
Possibly the most elaborate ice cream experience around. The queue is long and it’s cold, so the dragged out process of where they present the ice cream & the various OTT cones and presentation style it comes in, is not the most appreciated when I have already read the reviews, seen the pictures & know what I want. After half another of queuing, listening & waiting I finally got my “ice cream”. It’s more like a dessert disguised as an ice cream. The Tiramisu in a classic cone, looks innocent enough, just like a normal cone except about double the size. After you dug through the layers of cream, it’s like a real tiramisu inside with lady fingers & coffee. It’s delicious, but so massive I ended up leaving most of the cone itself. Will go back when the weather’s warmer.
Lydia In Wonderland
Passed by and saw the crowd, wanna have a try, ordered the sky tower with buffalo&passionfruit flavour ice cream which was $23. Such a disappointment that the chocolate was too heavy and a little bit too bitter to me, the cone was not freshly made and filled with a weird preservative like taste, the only good thing about it was the icecrean itself was quite delicious, but definitely not worth the money.
Luke Rooney
Awesome ice cream place right in the city, I got the Giapo Buono and it has a very good distinct taste!<br/>There is usually a lot of crowds here during the day so try and come here during off peak times..
Pig Cat
Had tried a few times at Giapo and loved their combinations, presentation and unique flavors. <br/>Long queue sometimes but didn't need to wait for too long.
Food?
A very unique and exciting experience. I've cream flavors and designs are quite extraordinary. Definitely made for sharing as the portions are very big and easily customized to your liking.
Tasteful Seconds By Kyrsta Lynn
What to say about Giapo? Firstly, can I say it was the best experience I have ever had in an ice cream shop. Upscale but make it ice cream. The first time I went I sat outside and they had service outside that brought blankets to make sure we were warm enough as well as waters and wipes for if our ice cream got too messy. They also had ice cream tastings where you could taste all of the flavors before making a choice. While it is on the pricier side it is an experience you should not miss. The experience as a whole and how well put together the design of the ice cream is is absolutely impressive. Always a good experience and never let down.<br/> Tried both Coco Choco Cookie and Cher's Chocolate.

Ice cream heaven,<br/>Hands down the best ice cream in Auckland and probably in New Zealand, heck it might be the best ice cream in the world! Giapo’s creations are like a dream within a dream… Their cones are like sculpted edible works of art, ranging from the fantastical to the selfie frame. Every mouthful is like soft melt-in-your-mouth, delicately balanced, taste sensations.<br/><br/>What can only be described as Magical Ice cream Heaven, Giapo 5 Stars, without a doubt!
Jess
the ice cream tastes amazing. but slightly difficult to eat due to hard chocolate and small tub.

I am so disappointed in the recent changes in what used to be one of my favourite gelato experiences in Auckland. We went in last night to introduce our family to the Giapo experience, but all five of us walked out empty-handed. They no longer offer their scoops in a cup, because they are "changing the experience of how we eat ice-cream" but to me, it looks like they are more focussed on the overpriced cone, and the ridiculous serving sizes (of course, we were offered the "finger cones" but I'm not about to pay $25 for 2 mouthfuls of gelato), rather than the gelato itself. That's not honouring the experience of ice-cream to me. The other excuse that was offered is that they are now being "environmentally friendly" by removing cups from their menu. If that's a concern, I'm pretty sure you can source biodegradable/compostable cups and use wooden spoons, just like the wooden sticks you use for the samples. And given the serving sizes, all the wasted ice-cream can't be having a great impact on the environment. <br/><br/>Secondly, now that the fast-lane is gone, it also contributed to a very cramped and crowded environment. Not pleasant at all.<br/><br/>I won't be coming back here until the focus is back on the ice-cream experience, not the fancy cone. The cups were a much more manageable portion, and more economical on the wallet. Now, walking in just feels like it is a bad tourist commodity.

Strange times when you go to Giapo and feel like you’re in an Airbnb experience buying souvenirs. I get it, they’re trying to be different from other gelato parlors but the whole schtick feels off - the “group gelato tasting tours” seems nice until they whip out the cone menu and you feel like you’re on the wrong end of a bad deal. To be honest, the cones (as ridiculous as they are) are fine - it’s when the whole process is pressuring you towards buying cones rather than the gelato itself is where it i have to disagree. I would give this review a one star if not for the the fact that giapo still produces quality gelato. I hope giapo returns to its old format with more flavors and emphasis on the ice cream - but who knows maybe I’m completely wrong and everyone wants this instead of what giapo used to be.

I’ve always wanted to go to Giapo because I’ve seen photos of the ice cream from there and it looks insane! I went after dinner with my bf who was also pretty keen on getting some dessert. Giapo is extremely generous with excellent service when it comes to trying the flavours. We managed to try all of the flavours except for the peanut butter and brownie ice cream, which was what I was planning to get. I got the Giapo Buono in a classic cone and my bf got the Coco Choco Cookie in a classic cone. The price was $15 each, which is more expensive than the rest of the ice cream places in Auckland but it’s due to the decorations and it’s quality. The flavours were great but I suggest to only get the Coco Choco Cookie if you’re a big fan of coconut because the flavours are really rich. My ice cream did get a bit messy at the end however, so do prepare some tissues!! Unfortunately, we both couldn’t finish our ice cream because we were full from dinner but I’d definitely want to come back to try the peanut butter and brownie ice cream!
Andy
An absolutely amazing place to grab a scoop or two. If it's you first time visiting, the staff will usually offer a tour and tell around what is more of a display of art than an ice-cream parlour, as well as a free sample of all their flavors. As if all of that isn't enough, the actual taste of the ice-cream alone is more than worth the visit.
Minh Thu
The staffs were great. They take time to satisfy each customer and handle concerns very well. The atmosphere is great too. The downside is the price for the scoops and the amount of seats available at the store
Jaee Ajgaonkar
A great experience! The prices are on a higher side but it's worth all the costs. It's great service that tops to the whole experience. Thanks to the staff!

What a really interesting experience here. Giapo certainly isn&#039;t your typical ice cream shop. When we first got here around 9 PM the place was packed with people, so we were pretty excited. <br/><br/>The lady who served us gave us a brief breakdown of the menu and what flavour come with each option. The cheapest ice cream is $14, and they can go up to $36 which is quite expensive. It would have been nice to have pictures of the ice creams in the menu just to give you an idea of what you are getting yourself into. The ice creams, are weird, to say the least. The ones we ended up ordering were probably the least weirdest compared to what you could get, as you can see in the pictures. Wait times can be long if busy, we waited around 10-15 minutes to get our order, on top of waiting 10 minutes to be served because it was packed. <br/><br/>The ice creams are not just for show, they are pretty damn delicious and they also have some gluten free options. If you are looking for just a simple straightforward ice cream place, then this is probably not the place for you. I would recommend checking the place out if you want ice cream, with a whole heap of art in it.

Used to be good, but now is disappointing. The flavor options were unique, but it didn’t taste quite well. The ice cream was too sweet. We ordered four different flavors. The guacamole ice cream tasted weird. The rest were okay. The only good part was the visual. It was quite “instagramable”. That’s why you see a lot of people eating outside. There were 2 lanes, the slow and fast lane. If you already know what to order, just go to the fast lane.

Been here a few times and they NEVER disappoint😍 Always a great experience and even brang one of my close friends(her first time) and she LOVED ittttt😊😊
Jing
Abit of a wait but mini chocolates are being served. There is a tasting session for first timer so that they get to try all different flavours in the menu and a brief description to their product. Their Chocolate Evolution cost 10NZD it has rich chocolate texture and raspberry sprinklers on top.

Don’t think this place need any more good words. Everyone loves this place and their ice cream looks so awesome and satisfying. Recommend for sure
Megan
The staff are always so welcoming and friendly as well as knowledgeable, always offering samples and information on all the delicious desserts. So yum!
Nikki Goddard
The Icecream was insanely good! Unlike anything I’ve had before. I couldn’t give it a 5 as the staff were a bit of a let down. Two young girls with not great customer service. Gossiping to each other while customers were eating. Not professional.

If you are looking for an ice cream shop with a wonderfully bespoke and unique experience then this is the place to visit!<br/><br/>This place offers an exciting experience with high quality ice cream to match. The aesthetic of the place is nice and simple. Nothing special but adequate for ice cream. It's a small place that can feel cramped with the volume of visitors is receives, but don't let this deter you as it's worth a wait!<br/><br/>The service is unique and part of the reason why everyone needs to try the place. You get very good care and attention, they allow you sample a bunch of flavors before making your penultimate decision. Furthermore you don't get to see the ice cream and decide instead they aim to get you to choose purely by taste. The staff are friendly and will cater for all dietary requirements.<br/><br/>The ice cream however, is the real winner for this place. Not only is it excellent you get treated to an amazing garnish and topping that you don't see until you receive it. It's always delicious and they often have unusual flavors that are worth the try. My personal favourite is the anazac one with comes with a cornflake topping and a miniature cookie! It is pricey compared to other places but you won't get nearly the same experience.<br/><br/>Overall this place is incredibly unique with it's awesome ice cream, exciting toppings and service that takes you on a journey to choose your ice cream! I would recommend this place to anyone, my partner and I come here often but it is definitely worth the visit for a traveler as it offers an unparalleled experience.<br/>

Absolutely amazing!!! As soon as we walked into the store, we were ask if it was our first time visiting then we were introduced to a few of their popular flavors, we get to try them all and decide on what to order. Spent about $20 on mine, I got a Miller’s Coffee & Hazelnut in a Raspberry White Choc cone with Chocolate Revolution topping, if being really honest, $20 is really expensive! For an ice cream 😂 and the raspberry on the cone was so sour I couldn’t finish it Hahha but I wanted the best looking one for the gram and the girl recommended this which I was really happy about. Great service and delicious ice cream, I also really like that you can sit outside and eat your ice cream and sometimes the staff comes outside to offer you a glass of cold water which is so nice!!! A++++ highly recommended and must visit even if you’re not a sweet fan hehe

Not your usual ice cream store. Giapo brings your ice cream eating experience to the next level.<br/>The queue was slightly long, but complimentary chocolate bites were given while we waited.<br/>There was a tasting session where you get to try 9 different flavors of ice cream before deciding which one to go for.<br/><br/>The finger cones were super cute and yummy.<br/><br/>Food: 9/10<br/>Food presentation: 10/10<br/>Service: 10/10<br/>Location: 8/10<br/>Ambience: 8/10<br/>Price $10 per person <br/>

The undisputed king of icecream in Auckland.<br/>Excellent customer service, free chocolate samples, still and sparkling water and an incredible menu with changing options!<br/>Highly recommend

Such unique dessert experience and the flavours are rich and delicious! Esp. Love the coconut chocolate and the salted caramel bueno flavour A must try in Auckland! Only complaints would be that they should have more servers as it can get super busy and the testing experience can take a while and also wish they had a smaller size available as the ice cream is soo rich especially for someone like me who isn’t a sweet tooth.
Mai Maii
This is the best ice cream I have tried in Auckland. The ice cream is absolutely creamy that perfect for whom love cream. Many toppings on the top and are also different with different flavours. The price is high but the quality is great from the taste to the design. I’m the person who don’t like waffle but I need to say its handmade waffle is incredible when you eat with ice cream. I tried the ice cream in the cup but was not satisfied because I feel the ice cream is less than normally it was. Thanks for your service!
Vincent Fang
I love their ice creams, every single flavour is so good!!! But their toppings are sometimes too heavy to handle in your mouth, they’re so sweet
Luz !
It is tasty and obviously original! Really enjoyed the ice creams and the experience. It is nice for a “special occasion” ice cream. Staff was very nice.
Grace
We ordered the afghan cookies and the coconut choc chip. Both were AMAZING! 12/10. It was a bit messy to eat though... lets just say that the squawking seagulls enjoyed fighting over the dropped cornflake pieces and melted ice cream lol 😂
J Eats
Always make sure to get the afghan and coffee flavoured ice cream 🤤. Both flavours complimented with the waffle cones have great crunchy components with creamy milky ice cream texture. Line for taste testing is ages but great if it's your first time. Tip: make sure you're the last on your tasting group queue so you can have most of the tasters at the very end 😂. Definitely one of the best spots for ice cream if not, the best in Auckland.
Samuel
amazing ice cream here. very popular and you can tell with the size of those lines through the summer too.<br/><br/>good to come here if you want an ice cream that's a little bit different! a little pricey but worth it once in a while.

This ice cream changed my life, opened my eyes, enlightened my soul.<br/><br/>Miso kumara at the bottom (interesting combination but i found it delicious) and another flavour (which i have forgotten the name of) at the top. Used the niesh app to get me the free scoop. The tasting session we had beforehand was amazing too, really got decide what flavours i really wanted after the tasting.<br/><br/>Although the place was jam packed and busy, service was exceptional. The guy running the tasting was so friendly, and the girl who gave me my ice cream was so kind, walking around providing napkins too. They were quick to fix their mistake after getting my order wrong. Even though its expensive, its worth it. A must try in Auckland.

If you are in Auckland, this place is a must visit. Their ice-creams are out of the world!! Their flavors are carzy and the ice creams are very filling.<br/>This place is a little on the expensive side, but is worth every penny!!

Chocolate Cup<br/>Delicious rich flavour balanced nicely with the sweetness and tartness of the topping. <br/><br/>Service was excellent and friendly, the tasting helped hugely with coming to a decision.

Have been wanting to come here for ages. <br/>We got the chocolate ice cream! The customer service was really good - the lady let us try all the flavours left over. Also, the mousse on top of the ice cream was chewy? Which was delicious! The ice cream was worth $10 as the chocolate was good quality. Will be back to try other flavours!! 💕💕

The staff are extremely friendly. Their ice cream is a little pricey, but definitely worth it if you’re willing to spend a few dollars extra. Often there’s a line but wait time isn’t long once you’ve bought the ice cream.

Fancy ice cream with fabulous over the top decoration. High price reflects on quality and fresh creamy flavour. I miss having them uptown, so much more convenient for us. But if you are ever around downtown make sure to check it out. Perfect for date night and girls day out! Queue can be pretty long especially on a warm day.
Siobhan
Soo happy Giapo lived up to the hype! The staff were friendly and clearly knew the product as demonstrated through the informative free tasting session. I enjoyed the Afghan ice cream very much.
Karen
Love this place when I feel like a bit of a fancy icecream! There’s always a line here during the summer and I can see why. The staff are lovely and very accomodating. Haven’t been disappointed yet with any of the flavours I’ve tried so far! It is a little bit expensive but worth it when you want something a little bit different.
Jim
Very fancy ice cream shop in central Auckland, they serve best quality ice cream with interesting design and presentation. Although the price is on the high side, it definitely worth a visit, great experience.

My chronic sweet tooth agrees that Giapo is one of my personal top places to go for ice cream 🤤 Although it's quite pricey, its definitely worth the moolah. Giapo hand crafts their ice cream to a delectable level and adds just the right amount of crunch that just tops it all off. Their selections and flavours of ice cream vary seasonally, so there are always new flavours to try. My personal favourite is Giapo Buono - a regular flavour on the menu and is quite popular. Staff are also very attentive and welcoming and if you're unsure about what flavour to choose, they will help you pick out your own personal tastes 😉 Writing this review has sparked my sweet tooth cravings so I'll be dropping by any time soon.

I was quite intrigued and excited to see what this place would be like hearing that it almost always has a queue going outside their parlour. When I arrived here there was a queue, and while waiting each of us we were offered chocolates and an ice cream to taste. Then we were given a wonderful fancy presentation and explanation of each of the ice cream flavours and cone types and each of us were offered all the available flavours of ice creams for tasting. It looked awesome and beautiful. However when it came to the taste of ice creams and cones itself they were fine but weren't the best.<br/>It was a enjoyable experience on the whole that's worth it and fun if you do it just once or a few times in your life. I wouldn't eat ice cream from here regularly as the taste doesn't live up to the high price.

If I only comment on the flavour, I would give Giapo a four star. They got some creative on flavour and they keep creat the new seasonal one, not bad. <br/><br/>I found the topping is a little bit too heavy for me, most of the time I need to eat the topping first without ice cream, but I came for the ice cream not cereals, puffed rice, big chuck of chocolate or something else. But I know some people may like it and they surely make the ice cream look more pretty. <br/><br/>The experience is not too bad, they keep giving you free chocolate and other things prevent you from getting bored in line. I'm not the patient type but I have to stick in group with others as they arranged. Most of the time I just want to try their new flavour or I'll go to the window, not sure if the shop will adjust this.

If you love rich sweet treats here is where you wanna be!<br/><br/>Icecream at its richest! Tasty sweet of all sorts. I love it! The icecreams are huge too! Last time I had been at Giapo was when it was still on Queens street a couple years back when my parents were visiting from the states. They were revisiting and my Dad insisted on going back, obviously to their new location! It was brimming with people unsurprisingly. They have a back window where if you know what you want you can order, give your name and wait around by the seating out front or on the street but if you wait in line you walk through the shop and are given samples while you wait. <br/><br/>When its your turn you go with a small group to one of two counters where some walks you through some brief history of Giapo and then their different flavours and how they are paired with different elements to highlight flavours and give textures; however, if you like a flavour with a different topping you can do that. I ended up doing that as I like the toasted marshmallow and nut topping. Also on display there were extravagant editions you could add on top of your ice cream (exclusively dark chocolate).<br/><br/>Overall, the flavours are all amazing, the experience is cool whether you are a local or tourist and would recommend everyone go at least twice! Only complaint is there isn't more seating (but its the city centre so...) and that the flavours are so rich you need a break in between visits.

There were 5 groups of us (total 12 people) tasting the ice cream at the same time, from the SAME small tasting cup for all flavors! I know they want to speed up the process since it was a Friday night! But I wonder what happened to the original Giapo experience! the ordering and tasting system is so screwed up! Additionally, the price of the ice cream has gone up so much over the past 2 years and the quality of ice cream didn’t match up.... so if you are a tourist, it’s worth a try to get some pretty ice cream...

Went here with friends & a friend from Japan.<br/>The line was not too bad - they offered water and chocolates while we were waiting.<br/><br/>The experience is unique. The person who was assisting us made the experience fun and interesting!<br/><br/>I always get the sorbet options. Always satisfied with the taste.<br/>

Came for the first time after it reopened on Gore (very belated I know). <br/>The experience was totally different, and it was amazing! While we waited in line, we were given house made chocolate and water. (Service is absolutely amazing) <br/>When you get into the store you get to try every single flavour in little groups while they explain the flavours and what not to you! If you already know what you want and don’t want to wait to try all the flavours they also have a quick order area where you can go straight to ordering!<br/>While you eat the ice cream outside they also have someone walking around with water and wet wipes.<br/>Again this is the most unique experience for ice cream I have ever experienced and is definitely worth the price. Giapo has created something different for how ice cream is served!

Recommended by a friend of mine, I ordered a chocolate evo with an expectation it would be just like how ice cream tastes. Surprisingly, they were different. Their ice creams blend taste and art very beautifully. Their service was excellent and just different from most ice cream shops. One would just misses something if they do not stop here while visiting Auckland. <br/><br/>Well done!

Usually a big fan of Giapo since we have been visiting for over 5 years but I feel the quality has gone down quite a bit in the last couple of months. The ice cream was too sweet with waaay too much sugar in the meringue topping. Too many toppings and not enough icecream (at least if you get a cup) The balance of flavours was much better previously with some bitter/salty elements balancing the flavour profile well. May not be visiting again until they change the menu/recipes back to what they used to be!
The Scarfoodie
Really cute place with good vibes, line was pretty long though but definitely was well served with a lovely lady offering us chocolate and then getting the Giapo experience of taste testing! We got to experience every flavor which was awesome, I liked the coconut choc chip but was not into the topping of chocolate chip cookie so opted for the classic giapo buono (really wanted meringue!). Took quite some time waiting but nice to know that they hand make everything on the spot! Definitely A+ for customer service, beautiful presentation of the icecream, and the taste for the icecream itself is just good creamy salted caramel but not anything extremely special. What’s special is the whole experience and the topping! Toppings enhance the flavor so much, adds crisp and tang, the meringue is deliciously creamy and hazelnut is fresh! Worth the wait and portion is actually bigger than you think and fills you up a bit! <br/>9/10<br/>In the words of my friend, the giapo guano ‘is like one big ferero rocher’.<br/>Also got served water, however my friend’s cup wasn’t completely clean. :(
Cecilia
Tastes as good as it looks! Though overtime, i must say, the decorations are becoming less elaborate... Neverthless, my go-to gelato spot!!!
Chris Piechowicz
Must be an experience thing for early teen clients..as for others: lengthy hype spiel about stuff, followed by x3 overpriced extremely sugary ice cream and gelato after a generous wait, coupled with chocolate substitute product. If you want good ice cream or to be treated as an adult, keep moving.
Annette S Chirayil
Giapo is about creativity. Not a great icecream lover personally but couldn't stop drooling at the store. Nicely done space with creative elements screaming out. Ordered the Afghani icecream which tasted amazing. Totally loved the experience.
Purnima C Nair
One must not miss visiting Giapo if you are in Auckland.. Icecreams with numerous flavours and very presentable too.. very crowded but worth waiting.. We had ordered two flavours: Giapo Buono and Chocolate evolution.. Both were super delicious 😍
Rubab Shah
This place is the best!! Like the ice cream is really good and the staff are friendly!! We went during the night so it wasn’t as crowded but definitely a go to during the night or the morning if you are visiting Auckland
Elizabethjansenvanrensb96
OMG. Let’s talk about Giapo. <br/>First, it’s like a doctor’s appointment - just fun. They talk to you, find out your desires, your taste palette, your interests. <br/>Then, you order “blindly”- you just choose your flavor and they do the rest- you are surprised with a creation so visually satisfactory and intriguing, you find yourself taking photos. However, just wait til you get that first bite. No more time for photos.
Shreeya Jayaraman
The service is excellent and the ice cream delicious! Be prepared to eat it for the next three meals as it’s a huge serving! I chose the classic which was delicious! They need more options with white chocolate
Madee Forbes
Giapo’s is a MUST DO if you’re in Auckland. Not only the flavours are amazing but they serve the icecream in different options (with hot chips, deep fried bread, wearable cones!) they are so next level and unlike any icecream store I have ever been to 10/10 highly recommendable.
Eunifoodie
Real rating: 4.5/5<br/>Everything was amazing - the experience was amazing, the flavours were amazing, the staff were awesome. It’s definitely worth the wait! It is quite pricey though (over $10 for a scoop). I guess it can be justified by the experience, but it’s definitely the most $$ scoop of ice cream I’ve ever purchased haha

I have never been so excited to have ice cream before!<br/><br/>I have been wanting to come back to giapo ever since the wonderful experience I had the first time I came.<br/><br/>Service: 9/10<br/>A huge part of the experience is trying out all the delicious flavours available, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They introduced us to each flavour of ice cream and cone we were interested in, and we didn’t feel rushed at all.<br/>The lady at the counter had a big bright smile throughout servicing us which made the experience very enjoyable.<br/>The staff brought us water, tissues and chocolate to try while we were waiting in line, so we didn’t get antsy.<br/>The ice cream was made very quickly this time but last time it took over 10 minutes.<br/><br/>Food: 10/10<br/>We ordered the Chch Haz’nut Dominican Choc with the freeze dried raspberry and white chocolate deluxe cone.<br/>The ice cream was decadent and the chocolate had a deep cocoa flavour which wasn’t too overly sweet. The crunchy hazelnuts were great with the creamy ice cream. The chocolate shell withheld the ice cream and prevented the ice cream from leaking.<br/>The outside of the cone was tart and sour from the crumbly raspberry coating, the inside was a crunchy waffle shell. The tartness was a great contrast from the sweetness of the ice cream.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 9/10<br/>Giapo is located on a small quiet street, slightly hidden away from the madness of the city.<br/>It definitely doesn’t look like your classic ice cream store. There are classy decorations and displays hanging around the shop that supports a high quality experience.<br/>You can see your ice cream being made from the seating area so you can ensure the level of care put into making the ice cream.<br/>There is seating inside and outside with lovely garden bushes and railing to keep everything organised.<br/>It was chilly outside so we wanted to wait inside, but it was too cramped, because the space is quite small.<br/><br/>I can totally understand why everyone raves about this place, it certainly isn’t your average ice cream. The prices are quite high but it feels like your paying for artwork rather than food.
Joyce Xu
拔草网红店,说实话,相比这个价格,味道也好不到哪里去,不过关键颜值高,可以拍照发朋友圈啊!😂🤭<br/>we three people ordered three, actually two should be enough for three to four persons sharing coz really heavy. Taste good but still think overpriced.
Luke Ma'a
A delicious range of ice creams to choose from which you can thankfully test before deciding which one you want. And dont even get me started on how good the choices for cones and other things are.
Vaishali Panwar
Chocolate Evolution:cocoa nibs, choc mouse , Dominican choc on a house made waffle cone lined with milk chocolate. <br/>This ice cream @giapokitchen has a really big portion size and definitely makes it to one of the to do things in Auckland. The ice cream was delectable and since I had it on my very first day in the city so it’s pretty close to my heart too...
Nadia
The best gelato iv had, definitely the must go place when you come to Auckland. Really like the “Maori potato” flavor. It not only a ice cream shop, it’s a culture experience place. Will go back again and again.

Passing by giapo and always see long queue in front of the shop which make us curious.. so Denny Setiawan and I decide to give it a try.. after waiting for almost 30 minutes we’ve made it to try this famous ice cream.. ordered dark chocolate flavor ice cream with special cup with made by dark chocolate.. really nice and ice cream with nice presentation..
Katherine Chen
Bad experience, the ice cream was made and then sitting at the counter for almost 5 mins before it was given to us. It was super soft and tasted really bad.
FOODLAB.IN
One of the best icecream place I've crossed in britomart this place' s passion towards icecream is clearly visible with the everyday fresh ice cream thing , so I ordered a house made waffle with choclate evolution and Afghan cookies totally everthing was like 22 NZD I was very satisfied with my order. Really a thumbs up for this place, they also serve Indian bread so really a +1 from my side.
Paris May Ball
Absolutely love this place! It’s quite expensive though and the queue took a very long time which wasn’t ideal because it was freezing outside. But it was worth it in the end!

I only got one problem, I can’t rate higher than 5 ⭐️! 🤩 would rate them 10 if I could! This was a great experience after a 2hr walking tour around Auckland, the perfect dessert indeed! 🍦🍦🍦
Omkar Shinde
I tried Giapo Buono and it was damn tasty ! 😋Caramel and hazelnut was a delicious combo ❤️ I would strongly recommend everyone to try this place other flavours are delicious too !
Maesian
Time of visit not many flavours to choose from. The picture shows the coconut flavoured ice-cream. Tastes good but the chocolate was too rich. Didnt like it that much unfortunately
Its Me
Its not bad here but i personally think its just over rated and over priced.. not everyone is the same so some people might like it but for me if I was to run this place I wouldn't be taking forever to feed everyone every flavour of what you got just to make the place experiencable & entertaining when it's cold/hot or raining outside when you can clearly see people sometimes even with their kids waiting.. just my quick thought .. it is still a to go place whenever I get a viator from overseas even out side of Auckland.. they seem to be having fun waiting trying the ice cream taking pics enjoying the deco but they hardly ever come back here on their own.. I feel like this is almost an attraction of AKL not an ice cream place
Marnie
I haven’t been since the relocation of Giapo to Britomart, however, this is definitely one of the best ice cream places in Auckland! <br/><br/>Such a unique concept, where you’re given plenty of tastings without viewing what it looks like. You order purely based on taste - and the toppings are conjured together by the chef. So good!
CocoOnFire
Wait in the small quene, worth the wait, you can sample the ice cream before ordering; or order from the window side if you don't need to try first .... this is actually faster; will be back to try the waffle with hot chips which has ran out of order.
Aneta Chadderton
There's Ice cream and then there is Giapo. They say pictures say a thousand words, Giapo is on a whole other level. Mixing and utilising fresh NZ produce, Giapo will take your taste buds to a place you only thought existed in fairytales and make believe.<br/>Ever changing flavours and diversity are what makes me come back for more 😋<br/><br/>#giapo #Giaporocksmyworld #nzmustdo #nzkai #connoisure #haveyouevenGiapo

Really amazing icecream here. I love how attentive and friendly the servers are and how they allow you to try all the different flavours to find something you really like. The menu is really extensive and caters to pretty much everyone. I had the chocolate hazelnut flavour and it was amazing. The attention to detail in each icecream is a lovely touch and makes the experience just that much more special. Definitely would recommend to try at least once, its pricey but worth it for the experience
Ingvild Westby
The ice cream was quite pricey, but it was a great one time experience. If you like chocolate this is the place for you! I had the hokey pokey. It was very tasty! I loved how they let you try all the flavours before you decided what to buy. The
Jenny Da
Friendliest and most unique ice cream shop on the planet! They have a menu like no other, which changes from time to time (seasonal fruits etc), offers the coolest toppings (a cookie? A donut?) and different cones!<br/><br/>The entire experience is absolutely delightful and you’ll definitely be back to try all the flavours! (As I have done!)

Love this place. Always delicious and a challenge o the taste buds. Def worth taste testing samples before selecting. A bit of a wait at times but if your happy to wait you will enjoy it. Instagramable deliciousness.

Was dying for some dessert and found that Giapo was a popular place in Auckland for a quick sweet fix. While making my way there, I felt that I was walking towards the jaws of an inevitable rip-off ice cream joint.<br/><br/>I couldn’t be more wrong.<br/><br/>Upon entering the store, I was greeted like stepping into a 5-star hotel. The assistant introduced themselves, explained the stores concept, and how to order. What amazed me was the size of the tastings! It wasn’t just a small little peanut-sized tasting on a stick; it was a small serving in a shot glass! This definitely helped in selecting the right flavour that would provide me the sugar fix I was craving.<br/><br/>The ice cream was creamy and delicious as well as the service being top notch!<br/><br/>Yes, the prices are high but the service and the quality of the ice cream is definitely worth it. Even though you can grab a cheap ice cream fix from some fast food joint, not all ice cream joints are made the same. This is especially true for Giapo. I am definitely coming back to try the other flavours!!
Yashie L
Without a doubt, I have to say this is the best ice cream parlour I’ve ever been to. I love how our host gave us a wee tour and explained how everything works. We also got to try free sample flavours as well before ordering. I had the Chch Hazelnut Chocolate and my partner had the Giapo Bueno. Huge portions, presentation and flavours are out of this world! Sooooo good! Yes, it‘s pricey but you still wouldn’t mind paying a bit more for their creativity and how they strive to make your ice cream into a work of art. It is a unique experience and absolutely worth trying. Customer service is top notch, I reckon. Friendly and helpful staff. Exceptional concept for an ice cream parlour. Highly recommend!

Yummmmm yummmm!!! Had this for the first time when I was heavily pregnant and loved it! Staff are super nice! Must try! Will be back with my little one this time!

First time coming here after its relocation. Everytime I walk past there's always a line out the door so I was curious to see what the hype was about and popped in when it looked a bit quiet on a Monday night.<br/>The presentation of the ice creams are next level, so beautiful to look at you almost don't want to eat it. But not a huge fan of the ordering system. the reason for lines out the door is that there is only one counter/person serving and each person gets to try at least 3 shot glasses of different flavours before placing their order. You also don't get to see the ice creams, only the descriptions on the menu.<br/><br/>Also thought the formal ordering system was mismatched with the seating arrangement. You get this lovely fancy ice cream but there are hardly any seats or tables to enjoy it at.<br/>All in all little bit over the top if you're just after a simple ice cream but go for the experience.
Chris489
One word AMAZING!!! The best ice cream in Auckland! <br/>The staff are amazing and make you feel so at home! Thank you for the amazing experience 😊

Been here quite a few times.. <br/>always recommend to friends who come to Auckland for a trip. <br/>Very ambitious and creative. <br/>Service 5/5<br/>Taste 5/5<br/>Overall is superb

The photo doesn’t really do the ice cream justice. This place is like the Rolls Royce of ice cream, they use the best ingredients and they are made right in front of you. But because they’re the Rolls Royce of desserts, they have the Rolls Royce price. This place is over priced. It taste really good, but it comes at a price. Make sure you go early because the lines are long and could be waiting for 20mins.<br/><br/>This is a once in a blue moon treat for me.

Visiting Giapo’s is one of the top 10 things to do when in Auckland ( so I read) and it is Well worth a visit! The ice cream is very pricy, the ordering process is slightly complicated and you might even have to wait in cue but the end result is delicious. I would advice everyone to be adventurous but try the flavours you might be interested in before you order as the portion sizes are huge and you don’t want to be eating that much of something you don’t like.

Loving this ice cream parlour. not only they served the best ice cream in Auckland, but the presentation of the ice cream was so unique. Pretty expensive, but the portions were huge. The ice cream itself tasted somewhat classic and comfortable. I ordered Hokey Pokey, Cruchy Hazelnut and Chocolate, and Giapo Bueno. Three of them were delicious, super creamy with bold flavor. My favorite has to be their Giapo Bueno.
Rosanne Choy
Love this ice cream shop. Quite pricey but worth it for the aesthetics and instagram lol.<br/>You can choose what kind of cone you want and there are a variety of flavours of ice cream. They let you taste test before buying. Would definitely come again in the summer.

A very polite place . The staff was serving free tasters which gave the idea that yes this place is different. There was a polite lady which was our personal assistant there. She welcomed us . We ordered hockey pocket abd NZ black berries in red velvet-white choco cup . It was awesome in taste. I loved it. Icecreams were fresh and were preparing in front of us . A very place it was❤️❤️

a nice little treat after an exam! me and my friends went here and thought it was really boujee but worth the money. the best hokey pokey ice cream i ever had. PLUS the lady was super nice and helpful!

You just cant go wrong with the ice creams here, they are absolutely delicious☺️ <br/>As enticing as it looks, it tastes even better. Its an amazing place to visit regardless of your love towards ice creams.

Best place for a fancy ice cream! Staff are ways very friendly and are happy to let you try different flavours before purchasing. Always have some tasty vegan options too, highly recommend!

This place is amazingggg! Suggested by a friend, we decided to visit it on a wednesday evening. From outside it looked like a small ice cream shop, nothing special. Then we noticed the queue, there were atleast 6-7 people waiting ahead us and few of them sitting and waiting for the order.<br/>The staff was serving free tasters of their ice cream which gave the hint that yes this place was different.<br/>After waiting for around10mins we were welcomed by a polite lady who was our personal assiatant there. Yes!! This place has personal assistants who make us taste various flavours, help us in deciding the flavour and also answers queries regarding their ice creams. <br/>We ordered Hockey- Pockey and NZ blackberry in red velvet- white choco cup. And then waited for our order to arrive.<br/>The kitchen was big and ice creams were being prepared right in front of our eyes. The staff was regularly making rounds sometimes with ice cream tasters, sometimes with chocolates, water and tissues. <br/>Then came our ice creams. The best I have ever tasted. Huge servings super duper taste, fresh toppings. It was out of the world. <br/>This place is a must must visit when you are in Auckland.<br/>The team is fantastic! Good work guys.. you have an amazing place.

One of the best and creative ice cream shops in New Zealand I reckon. Friendly staff and you get what you pay for! Some said it is over priced but to me, it’s an experience. They allow you to try all the flavours before you purchase and also, offer you water, wet wipe and chocolate 🍫. They make sure you are well looked after. Chocolate evolution is my favourite 😋 It took me about 30 mins to finish one heehee 😉
Emily Gossen
The best ice cream you can find in town with lots of inventive flavours available. The service is great, with staff being very friendly and welcoming, allowing you to taste test any flavour you wish to and explaining everthing really clearly. The prices however are expensive with it being $8-10 for a single scoop without any cone or add ons. You do get what you pay for quality and service wise, but I probably wouldn’t come here regulary for ice cream on a warm day. <br/><br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Portion: 3/5<br/>Price: 3/5<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>
Manoj Patel
It's good how they give you a few testers before buying, prices are a lil steep but the quality of service and product itself is great. Been here a couple of times now, menu has changed a bit. I had their new coffee flavoured ice cream along with Roti. Ice cream itself..... delicious, roti quite hard and tricky to eat, it comes with a little plastic spoon but that would be for the ice cream itself. Take wet wipes and tissues cause you'll need them if you have the Roti ice Cream, other than that you'll be fine. Would definitely return again.

The customer service was friendly and helpful. I was impressed by the menu which was available in a few different languages. However if they have pictures of each ice cream rather than a list of long names, it will be much easier to get more clear idea of which one to order.<br/>I appreciated I was offered tasting for the different flavors of ice cream. I had a chance of tasting 3 kinds but I couldn't find any I really like.<br/>I felt sorry to take up their time so I just picked one of them that I tried.<br/>For a cone, I chose the deluxe cone which was chocolate & almond coated. You can see samples of the deluxe cups and cones displayed in a case.<br/>I might be able to think it's worth paying that much if I could taste a real chocolate flavour on the cone.<br/>Unexpectedly the ice cream failed to please my taste bud.<br/>I was thankful that half way through of munching I was offered a glass of water for refreshment.<br/>Choosing one ice cream flavour - $8.5~$10.<br/>The deluxe cone - $12.5.<br/>Paying total of $20+ for a single cone ice cream was quite hurting.<br/>However I spent a good time having once a life time experience.

Am a huge fan of Giapo as their unique and crazy flavours definitely cure my sweet tooth cravings. The price can seem unreasonable at first but after being able to taste-test all the different flavours and leaving with an extraordinary wonder piece, Giapo will definitely be worth the price. Must try at least once!

Had to wait in line to get our ice cream but it was definitely an experience. Got offered chocolates while waiting and someone took time for us all to decide what flavors we want and got to try many of them before ordering. Great service! Ice cream is very overpriced but it does look pretty I guess.
Swati Loomba
Beautiful looking delicious ice creams. An absolute delight to the taste buds😋😋😋Custom-made and plenty time and assistance from the staff to choose flavors n toppings.A must try😁

Amazing service! Lovely atmosphere and yummy ice cream! You won’t be disappointed in the quality of hospitality and dessert! Best place to chill and fufill your sweet tooth.

In the mood for indulgence, this is sweet tooth heaven. The flavours a so rich & creamy. Giapo has turned something mundane like eating ice cream into an experience.

Second time eating here as I had to come back and try other flavours! I ordered the avocado and sweet soy gravy and it was delicious! Sweet, salty and creamy all in one and the presentation is great! Awesome service as they bring round water and wet wipes if yours gets a lil messy! Rate this place a lot for a gourmet treat.

Not only unique flavours and innovative designs but fantastic service. This is truly a one of a kind place. Highly recommended and thoroughly enjoyed.

This newly opened Giapo by Britomart takes you to an entirely new level of ice cream goodness.<br/>It feels so flash and they really give you a thorough "tour" of the Giapo experience.<br/>I like how they take the time to serve you and treat you to the different items they have on offer.<br/>It really feels like they are dedicated to you choosing the perfect treat for you.

I always wanted to visit this place finally i had the chance to do it let me start my review with the owner of this place he is so welcoming and friendly with his customers also the staff the same they take the time to explain every flavour that they have on their menu and trust me every flavour is a unique creation that you will never taste it anywhere else so first i tried every flavour than i decided to go with the avocado and soy gravy gelato you have to try this if u r an avocado addict the flavour is so natural as if u r eating real avocado without that extra sugar that most of the commenrcial ice cream places prepare their ice cream second u have the option to choose ur unique cone with style and take the picture of your gelato later on i took the Colossal squid with cocoa nib dark chocolate cone it was sooooo good to be true! I highly recommend this place to anyone that soon will visit Auckland or lives in Auckland trust me you will not regret😊👌🏻✅

Amazing service and impeccable ice creams. The vegan menu was outstanding and my coconut choc chip ice cream was delicious and so beautiful. So delighted with my experience here.
Janay Tahlia Casas
Awesome service, they brought around samples of ice cream and biscuits, glasses of water and wipes! Ice creams were gorgeous, great flavours and massive servings. I would go with a cup or fried bread, Yorkshire pudding was a bit difficult to eat. The icy gelato were my favourite
Danimurphy23
Hands down one of the best ice cream dessert experiences I have ever had. Was just in Auckland for a holiday, and this was one of the highlights for sure. <br/>At first, my partner and I were a bit overwhelmed and didn’t know how to order or what tp expect, but the staff were so helpful and friendly. <br/>Ice cream was beautiful. They have a full GF menu, so I was treated with a waffle cone instead of having to have my ice cream in a pottle like usual. My partner had hot chips with ice cream in a waffle cone, that was incredible. <br/>Will definitely be back!!
Mmm
Best ice-cream in the world! Amazing experience. The creations and the taste of the ice cream are magnificent. A must go in Auckland and for dessert and ice-cream lovers.
Debbie95.yan
The staff was so friendly. Actually I just have 9.4 dollars cash coins it was not enough for double flavors and the staffs helped me use the normal size and with a little small size. So I could tasted the two different flavors. And I love the specific wallf cone It’s tasty and the shape was so beautiful! !!
Amanda.j.groenewald
Very helpful service and incredibly tasty and well-balanced desserts. However, the venue is often quite crowded and difficult to navigate leading to an overwhelming claustrophobic feeling.

Giapo has always sold fantastic ice cream but their new store also adds outstanding service. This is a whole experience. Each group gets a kind of “host” to help them sample flavours and talk them through the menu, so you never feel rushed or crowded even when the line is out the door. When we selected our ice creams, they were delivered to us outside. We didn’t realise we were thirsty yet, but shortly after beginning our ice cream we were delivered a cold glass of water. We hadn’t thought through how we would eat our creation, but shortly after that we were delivered a small takeaway box to save our special heart pieces while we ate the main event. We didn’t realise the sticky hand risk these majestic ice creams posed, but not long later we were delivered wet wipes - not just regular napkins. Every staff member was happy to go above and beyond expectations to make every dollar spent truly worth it. And the ice cream itself was of course spectacular. Okay but this isn’t like an after-dinner type thing this is a full meal and you need to be prepared. You will be bursting at the seams with indulgence. Not your regular ice cream store by a mile!

Looks can be deceiving.. I forgot what they called it but it tasted like fererro Roche married Smores and gave birth to this 😍 super pricey but worth it

Great customer service. Friendly and patient staff while we decide what ice cream flavour to order. Awesome designs and gelato flavours. Highly recommend.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! Ice cream + theatre, what's not to love!!? Giapo delivers on both quality of food and concept. The ice cream is smooth, creamy and delicious, the service fantastic and flavours and toppings creative. Yes it's a bit more pricey than your average ice cream but I think it's well worth the money for the quality and experience
Manan Chotmarada
One of the best ice cream parlour you will find in this world. The presentation of the ice creams served is just outstanding. They work hard wven on a single scoop of ice cream that you wouldn't mind paying them at the end. Though a bit expensive, you'll fall in love with the products once they are served.
Kai
Expensive but delicious, struggled to finish the doughnut ice cream as it was so huge. Have to try it at least once. The high end boutique approach to ordering the ice cream was not necessary in my opinion, it felt a little over the top. We also got to try as many flavours as we liked before buying which was pretty cool.

Giapo don't just serve you ice cream. They give you an experience of the amazing world of creativity & indulgence. Their chefs make the humble ice cream into a work of art. We had the Afghan cookie ice cream on top of a chocolate cone. The ice cream was dipped in delicious caramel topped with corn flakes and an Afghan cookie placed on top. 10/10. A must try even though you are fighting to be healthy and fit.

As an ice cream lover, this was absolutely heaven on earth!! This was not your average ice cream shop... we were taken on an adventure from the moment we walked in the door. We were greeted by the loveliest of staff members who took us to a counter and explained how everything worked in this new Gore Street boutique shop. She then allowed us to taste many different flavours of ice cream so that we chose the one we loved the most- I got the coconut & chocolate chip flavour + added a donut on top (pictured below). The only downside is that it is $10+ for an ice cream (but totally worth it!!) & also, the wait can get quite long as it is a small shop. It was honestly one of the best ice creams I have ever tasted and I will definitely be back for more! - @gastrogeeny

I am a chocoholic& a super sweet tooth! Popped in Giapo last night since I craved an ice cream after dinner. It was sweet, creamy, and the nice strong mellow of coconut was killin me. But the price is pushing me away from visiting this store more often.

One of my favourite desert places in town I love getting the pani puri because it gives yo a good selection of ice cream and is easy to eat the place is always clean and the staff is really friendly and also service is really quick especially for how busy it is

Innovative, creative and very delicious ice creams. Tried their Kiwifruit and Lemon and they’re both refreshing and well-presented. Love these 2 flavours! The only downside was their slow service but will come back to try the other flavours.
Quinn Mai
Well. What can I say? Super good service. Ice cream is more than amazing. The store is a bit small but if doesn’t stop customers from coming. I come here nearly every week :)
JPK
I tried thr ice-cream...<br/>Flavours tasted and ice-cream served were different. <br/>It's more sweet and would be nicer to add options for smaller cones/scoops.
Vivek
I am not an ice cream lover but randomly thought to check out this parlor for macrons . When i entered the shop i found that there are only ice-creams so i was left with no other option but to try one.The cone itself is a full meal (seriously ) and caramel flavor was very nice. The service was very slow and it took 13 minutes for them to prepare one item which was little disappointing. The rating i am giving here is purely for taste of dessert :) ... Burp ! Burp!
Kwin Dela Torre
Very delicious. Though price was a bit higher than expected, and there wasn’t as much ice cream flavours to choose from. The most popular flavour suggested happened to be one that tasted like Nutella though, that’s always a plus. The place itself was very high maintained. There was free water on your way in and a menu for quick in and out ordering, service was awesome the lady that served us was very nice and gave many samples of her favourites on the menu as we told her that it was our first time trying giapo out.<br/>

The ice cream here is in the pricier side, but it's definitely worth a try. Friendly staff, awesome flavours. Will definitely visit again. Sowmya Rahul

The queues outside this ice cream store should be an indication of how good it is! I was certainly not disappointed at all. You will see the lines stretch out of this Gore Street store when they’re very busy so you can’t miss it. <br/><br/>The lovely staff greet you and take you over to their counter where they kindly offer you tasting samples. Although the cost is pretty pricy (they start from $8 per scoop, additional flavour/scoop is another $3) and that is before you pay extra if you want a cone, fancy cone, or other imaginative options. There are also whimsical add ons such as ‘The Colossal Squid’ or ‘Auckland Sky Tower’. You could easily spend as much money here as you would pay for dinner!<br/><br/>Boggled by the many options on offer and having a full belly from eating a bit too much that day, I eventually chose the Handmade Waffle Cone with Kiss, Kiss, Kiss (luscious combination of hazelnut and chocolate) as well as Coconut Choc Chip (coconut ice cream with choc chip cookies). What makes it stand out are the decorations that come with each ice cream. I could choose the decoration of either scoop (they show you the picture so you can decide) so went with the Kiss, Kiss, Kiss one which had hazelnuts and chocolate lips! It does take them a bit of time of make but definitely worth it. <br/><br/>Worth the wait and the cost. You’ll leave a happy camper.

These guys are simply the best. I have been here countless times and each time I fall more in love. Their recent move to Gore street has seen a total refresh of their look and feel which I wasn't sure if I liked or not at first. However it is a good move for sure now with improved accessibility and more room for its large number of customers. The staff are always very friendly and helpful. The gelato flavours are forever changing and I must say I've tried every one of them. My favorites would have to be the hokey pokey, Afgan cookies and kiwifruit and coriander - unbelievably good! Your order is always processed promptly and the high presentation standard is always met. Giapo has never let me down.
Crumpet King
Expensive yes. Worth it? YES. They gave out tasters whilst we were waiting in line. They were all delicious. It was a hard decision after all the tasters but I settled on two flavours. Coconut for the base and a chocolate on the top. My friend had the afghan. I don't think I can articulate how wonderful the flavours are. I can only suggest you head on down to try some!
Angela
Love this place! The new location has improved the store and I'm loving their come designs! The gelato is always delicious and they hand out the nicest food while you wait. Service is also always impeccable and very very friendly.

One of the best thing you can find in Auckland! Auckland worth a visit because of this ice cream (hahhahaha, I am overrated?) Nopeeee the taste is just awesome! Should try
Hope
MMMMM I wish I could record my genuine WOW damnit this is amazing eyes! Ñ omg it’s edamame beans topping to my kiwi and coriander sorbet on top of my kofe Samoa the coffee not at all like overbearing like what I know just mmm perfect best 1st time combo btw. <br/>Not a huge like ice cream fan but I’m so disappointed my 2 scoop on a hand made vegan waffle cone was ending but I will come forever and thank you to the amazing service by all xx
Karen Faulkner
A bit cold outside waiting. Wouldn’t recommend staying with your ice creams inside as it gets very busy and you might get knocked over. All in all beautiful New Zealand forms of cream
Brooke
Awesome experience at the new store. I much prefer it to the old one due to the extra space. I like that you get to test the flavours before you make your decision. It is very pricey, but for the experience you are getting and the flavour options, it is well worth it. Because of the price, I don't come here often, but I am always very happy and satisfied when I do.

GIAPO.<br/> The best ice cream in New Zealand.<br/><br/>Here are five reasons why I love GIAPO (and why you should try their ice cream!):<br/><br/>1. Owner Gianpaolo (Giapo) Grazioli. 2. The ice cream flavours and the different options to ‘hold’ your ice cream. 3. The incredible creations. 4. Giapo’s Discombobulating Menu. 5. The little things. Click the link to find out more!

Ambience is nice but always crowded though due to their popularity. Service is excellent, we were served by a lady who was very friendly and energetic, all pleasant. She let us sample so many despite the line building up but she was onto it, she served customers while we tasted.<br/><br/>I had the coffee/koko Samoa in a Yorkshire pud and the mrs had the matcha in a cone. Both were really delicious. Will be back to tour the rest of the menu.
Holly Swallow
Delicious ice cream really pushing the boundaries on taste, design and texture. <br/>When you walk in, a consultant will talk you through the menu and allow you to sample some of the flavours. <br/>I've tried Christchurch hazelnut, Strawberry, Vegan chocolate sorbet and the Peanut Slab. All delicious but rich in flavour. <br/>I suggest getting a small cup - the add ons and fancy cones are really expensive but this is a luxury parlour, not your everyday ice cream so treat yourself!
Winnie Chauchau
Gorgeous selection of desserts, with some classic flavours and also some weird and wacky (but amazingly good) concoctions! Absolutely in love with the capsicum+mandarin and coriander+kiwifruit ❤ who would've known they'd taste so good together? (For the ultimate good time, ask for a half and half of these two 😉). The matcha is amazing as well - very rich matcha taste, without being overly sweet. Staff are always lovely and eager to help you make any difficult dessert choices with plenty of samples. They're also fantastically thoughtful, go around with water for anyone looking to cleanse their palates between bites, and go outta their way to make sure you have a great time 😄 will definitely be back to try every other gorgeous flavour combo!
Cathy Fan
first of all, I love icecream, it is one of my favourite foods in this world. <br/>This place serves the most aesthetic gelato decorations ever and they also have some of the most extraordinary flavours. From its high rating I'm sure I just stated the obvious but honestly I would regularly come here just for gelato. <br/>The last time I went, tried to oolong matcha gelato. I love matcha flavoured things and during ordering the waitress said that they don't have any particular toppings to suit it and she asked me what I would like instead. I told her to just give me whatever they would think looked good because I trusted that they would surprise me. <br/>Gelato is defines expensive but I wouldn't think twice to spending it at this place. <br/>The most recent time I came here, their main chef Giapo also came to greet us and it was very welcoming. They also served us water, hot chocolate and brownie samplers. Wow what a VIP experience. Their new shop is definitely much better than their old queen st one, much more spacious. <br/>5/5 for everything
Sophie
After hearing about giapo for the past few years, I finally visited their new location. I fully understand the hype now, with the free samples being a great way to know which one you're going to splurge on. The staff are lovely and helpful. Would probs recommend going as an event in itself and not as the dessert to end your night out, as they were incredibly filling and sweet.
Daniel
This is a must try. <br/>They let you taste free samples so you can figure out what you like. <br/><br/>They are artists. They create your dessert right in front of you. Each one as unique as next and they make them look beautiful.<br/><br/>They are so damn sweet tho.
Gorgeous_mojo
We went here and most of the flavours we want are already sold out. We end up having the dark chocolate which is extremely rich for us, but it gives a very strong chocolate flavours. The donut on gelato is just the plain donut dunked on chocolate and nothing too fancy to add on its taste. I please would say the serving is huge but you can always customised this by your preferences. We waited nearly 20mins for our orders. I hope Giapo will come up with more ideas and flavours that actually taste good as it looks.
Justine Barnett
Exceptional service. From the moment we walked in the staff were super friendly and helpful. We were told how the menu worked and given some samples to try first. I decided to order the mandarin and capsicum sorbet and coconut cookies and cream (pictured) which literally blew my mind. It was so good, I can see how this place is vegans choice. While sitting outside enjoying this flavour adventure we were offered a glass of water and hand wipes. Wow. Thanks for a great experience, we will definitely be returning.
Gracia
Very yummy and filling, although a bit too sweet for me. Good for when you're craving ice cream and want to treat yourself. I recommend asking for samples for the different flavours when you get there!
Jammie-Lea Wilson
This was so delicious. The staff were so helpful picking the best flavours and cones. Even on a rainy night it was worth it. I can't wait to go back!
EAT Girl 👑
Best Gelato in Town. Proud Aucklander here. They got unique design and authentic flavour. I've been here for like 7-8 times already. :) Yummmmmm
Ming
Been here a few times and service has always been top notch. Giapo seems to always be busy with people queuing out the door but staff don't look too stressed and are really nice. I like how they hand out samples while you're waiting in line so you're not eyeing up everyone else's ice cream 😂😂 Highly recommend the coconut flavor.
Mary Vegan Poppins
Absolutely delicious ice cream, although it is sooooo rich, share with a friend! Also if you love all that is good and pure, get a vegan donut on top of your icecream. Thank me later.
Manu
Not my jam. But that's just me personally... I'm not too crazy for sweets but this stuff is good so I definitely recommend for a special treat. Staff are really helpful as well as nice. Treat yourself!

Read a lot about Giapo since I moved in at Auckland and since always wanted to visit. Finally, this afternoon, grabbed a friend and made a visit. And oh Gosh!! I'm so glad that I did!! The staff is super friendly and helped me with my selection as I have certain dietary requirements. It's isn't cafe style seating and the space is very limited but you can find a little place to be comfortable on weekdays afternoons or perhaps it's winter here right now and I got lucky! But hey... it's good to freeze when it is freezing, aye? ;) I had their coconut choc chip and loved every bite of it! The creamy coconut with melt in mouth chocolate was the best combination ever!! The ice creams are a bit on the expensive side but good to be relished once in a while!! I'd definitely go back and try some more vegan/eggless ice-creams!! :D
Michael Swinburn
Went here for an ice-cream with my date, but it was awkward to be honest. Very crowded at night, and a stressed atmosphere. We got salted caramel/hazelnut ice-creams in a waffle cone ($12 each) and they took ten minutes to arrive. When I got mine, they had put meringue on top and blow-torched it, but it melted the ice-cream and it all fell straight off and right onto the floor in the middle of the store. I then had ice-cream all down my hand and sticky fingers for the rest of the night. Smooth. Ended up just chucking it in the bin outside. Nightmare.
Alex
This is my favourite ice-cream shop in Auckland. I thought it was closed, but the shop reopened at Gore St. The new shop was clean and crowded. you can choose many different types of cone. If you come to Auckland, you must try ice-cream of GIAPO.
Clairine Baharrizki
I love how they take time into the details of every ice cream that they serve to give people the best insta worthy photo. Although they provide you with good customer service, the sweetness of the ice cream overpower the taste and can be quite... sickening.
Dxlche
The ice cream here is pricy but it's is worth it. The avocado one tastes funny but then it's avocado. You can't really go wrong with any of the flavours. There's some that you won't find in any other stores. <br/>There's also lots of different types of cones. <br/>Each ice cream also has its own set of toppings. You can really tell that everything is well though out. <br/>The service is good too.
Rena Holstein
Giap I is always nice if you got enough money to spend on it! It's a bit too pricey for just ice cream but I guess the toppings, the process of making the ice cream and the range of flavours amale up for it in some way! The scoops are massive as well! Definitely have to go there every once in a while!
Mark A.
Giapo was at its best when it was in Queen Street. It changed alot now into a modern, chic and sophisticated place within Britomart area. Don't get me wrong, Giapo is the most amazing gelato shop in Auckland Central but I just don't reallyl like the vibe at the new place now its more commercialised and more of like the typical icecream shop. It is more interactive and customer focused what they do back on Queen Street. I think the consistency of the icecream changed abit - miss the old place!
Wapatino
This ice cream place is on the pricier side but it has a different concept and definitely worth trying. I tried their chocolate waffle cone since I thought there was already a lot going on with the ice cream and toppings. I'll definitely try something else next time :).<br/>Seating is limited inside so keep that in mind if you go on a rainy and/or cold winter day.
The Cheesy Ravioli
I'll try to add something special to these reviews but I don't know if that's possible after so many great ones already.<br/><br/>Giapo blew us away, after all it is a rather small space and they can accommodate a lot of people. I went there with 6 friends (post-drinks) and the excellent staff managed us well. The lady at one of the counters ran through the menu with us, providing recommendations which was great. <br/><br/>For an average joe like me, the waitress handing out cups of water before we ordered and napkins while we ate was lovely. <br/><br/>Truly a luxurious experience that is definitely beyond me. Great place for special occasions, or just a regular date night if you are a rich MF.
Gurudatta Vishwasrao
I visited this place last week with my girlfriend to check out the 'much talked about" ice-creams, and I was bowled over by this place. I am not much of a sweet addict and have had my share of fancy deserts, but Giapo is definitely one of the best places I would recommend to anyone looking for a special treat. I called for Giapo Buono, which i believe is one of their classic picks and was absolutely bowled over by it. There's something unique and original about the ice-cream which makes it so special. I would definitely go back to try the other range of treats it offers :)
Veronica Te
Their flavours are so unique and sometimes questionable combinations but they are always incredible. Only go if you are not in a rush to get anywhere else, especially when this place is busy. Definitely a treat place and worth trying at least once. Extremely limited seating, even at this new location.
Jessica Thomson
Amazing ice cream and flavour choices. Great place to go in britomart for a quick sweet fix after dinner. Staff are friendly and the environment is welcoming
Sid
I love this place. A bit on the pricier side for gelato, but they are so creative with their ice creams it's worth the price. They also taste really good and the staff are extremely friendly. Wish they had stayed on queen st. Would definitely recommend a try
Heidi M
Went here for an ice cream I had a cone with double chocolate ice cream it was next level great, almost the best ice cream I ever had tried 2-3 samples they where good too.
Sarah Leakey
Love love love the new space Giapo has taken over in gore st ! This place is definitely a go to when in town for dessert ! Still as delicious and it was so nothing has changed. Big ups to the giapo team for providing excellent service and delicious ice cream keep up the good work !
Tt_akl
Love Giapo ❤️❤️❤️ very innovative ice cream store, a must visit if you are visiting New Zealand, the flavours change and although a little more on the pricey side but it's pretty much luxury and quality ice cream. But also has an option to have a normal cone which is only 3 dollars. One down thing was my chocolate cup started breaking before I was finished with my ice cream so had to throw it out :(
G
So so good. Very good service from the staff too who were very patient with letting customers try flavours and explaining what each were and offering a glass of water to each customer after they've finished their ice creams. Got the Samoan caramel coconut ice cream with cookie crumbs all over it and it was amazing, tasted even better than normal dairy ice cream. It's a bit expensive but it's worth it and I'd definitely return to try other flavours.
Anna Wei
I was so excited to check out their new location in Britomart! A lot more roomy, with more places for people to sit and enjoy their gelato. Their gelato is not only aesthetically pleasing but tastes amazing! Definitely worth the walk down from Uni as a treat. Staff are super friendly and accomodating and sometimes let you try samples of their new flavours coming out while you wait :) great experience and definitely coming back one day for one of their deluxe cones
Gigio T
Over the top dessert shop, serving overly-elaborated ice-cream "creations". All Ice cream flavours and creatiobs are incredibly sweet and taste the same. Customer service is excellent! Staff are thoughtful and polite.
Amy Peng
Very belated review. <br/>First time I visited after 6-7 years, the store has changed a lot since it was first on Queen street! (In a positive way) <br/>It's now more like a serviced gelato bar. They offered u water and small deserts first time I went. The avocado white choc macadamia ice cream was amazzziinnggg! Sad they don't have this flavour anymore. <br/>A few days ago I tried the Anzac flavour - love the cornflakes! The ice cream melted really quick tho, and I think dark chocolate ice cream would've been better as it's a tad too sweet.

THE BEST ICE CREAM I HAVE EVER TASTED - GIAPO AUCKLAND NEW ZEALAND <br/><br/>The Ice Cream served at Giapo is truly awesome. <br/><br/>Giapo's signature "Yorkshire Pudding" Ice-Creams are unique and really fabulous. <br/><br/>If you are fond of Chocolate Ice Cream - you will feel delighted when you taste the marvelous rich flavour and feel a sense of fulfillment as you eat your ice cream. <br/><br/>There is a variety of innovative flavours - and - from the looks of delight from the foodies enjoying Giapo's ice cream - it is evident that all flavours are delicious. <br/><br/>The popularity of Giapo is visible from the large number of icecream aficionados patiently queueing up for a cup or cone of Giapo Haute Ice Cream. <br/><br/>Yes - they call it "haute" ice cream - and Giapo icecream certainly lives up to its name. <br/><br/>Conveniently located on Queens Street in the heart of Auckland - Giapo is a "must eat" icecream during your visit to New Zealand. <br/><br/>Tip: If you are a pure vegetarian - please confirm that the ice cream you are ordering is vegetarian.

Visited the Queen Street store. Nice little treat on cheat day. Chose the Siamu Popo (Samoan Caramel) vegan option, came dunked in choc sauce, rice bubbles and mini choc chip cookie. Only downside was that there were only 3 flavours to choose from at 5pm that day, so will have to try again at the new location!
Dean
Giapo est un excellent resturanté pour le dessert, la glace est servie rapidement. Mon hôte Sandy a été utile et bien informé et m'a offert quelques échantillons avant de faire mon choix. Merci Sandy, Au revoir.

This review of mine is from my last 2 visits to the new outlate at Gore st.<br/>Giapo is a craze even the ice creams here are grand in taste and in decoration.<br/>March 2017 visit: the shop was opened just few days back so many of the flavours weren't available. But we did get our choices there. We orderded for Afgan Cookie and Hazelnut. Tastes azaming but far too sweet for me. Although my hubby finished quite easily. But.. I dnno why on that day ice cream melted and started dripping within 2-3 mins. It was a horrible experience.. drenching ur clothes in ice cream. I forgot to enjoy the taste tying to finish it. I decided not to visit again. One more thing.. afgan cookie order reached me after 3attempts. Everytime they tried to serve me the cookie was falling on the floor. Maybe on that day the ice were less frozen I assume.<br/>4th May 2017: I couldnt stick to my decision of last time of not visiting the place. Again visited Giapo as other nearest ice cream shops were closed by 10o'clock😞<br/>This time we ordered giapo bueno and Christchurch hazelnut. They didnt give the toppings as they said they were closing. Although it was 10.15 n closing time was 11pm. So beware.. if you want ur ice cream to be perfect think of other options. As usual the taste were awesome.. too good. But this time too they messed up with the order. They served my order to someone else and me some other order. But changed it right away.

Came here after a lovely Britomart Dinner at Amano. <br/><br/>Loving the new setup.<br/><br/>Managed to meet the Owner and the Chef, such an inviting , friendly and polite bloke.<br/><br/>Had the Cookies and Creme Vegan option which is my second favourite to Siamo Popo.<br/><br/>New seated area is nicer too.

“Best ice cream experience in Auckland - dairy free too!”<br/><br/>There is the best place to get a fancy ice cream experience. What I liked most was the dairy-free flavors available too. The price is quite high compared to a regular ice cream, but it is really nice.

I've been here 2 times now (once when it was on queenstreet and back again when it relocated to britomart) ~ The lines are also quite big here (due to the fact that this place is so popular!)<br/><br/>Both times have been wonderful experiences because the staff there are so kind! They have a smile on their face the whole way in making your icecream. The best part about Giapo is that the flavours are so unique (you don't find these type of things anywhere else!) <br/><br/>Obviously with this many great stuff comes with one downside which is price - Cone's start at $10 but they are so big (I couldn't even finish mine!) but since I've got a decent sweet tooth, I'm willing to try a lot of sweet stuff :))<br/><br/>Overall - it's worth to try it at least once before you judge the price/quality factor.<br/> <br/><br/>EDIT: Came here once again (3rd time) and it was the best experience ever :) The chef came out to say hi, they were giving out free hot chocolate, coming around with water and wet wipes when eating ice-cream - felt like a premium service in general
Claude VanDamm
Best ice cream in Auckland! Great concepts flavours and presentation. I really enjoyed when GIAPO was on queen street had a better vibe and easier to access. The new place is cool but staring at Penthouse with the kids puts me off lol Lucky the food makes up for it
Nikita Rowe Walker
Such a treat going here, never disappointed with their unique creations, this was Nutella inside with a chocolate shell coated in a gold edible spray of some sort, how they do it I'll never know but it's the best kind of edible surprise, money wise it's pricey but worth it 100%, the staff are all amazing and talk you through your first time so you automatically feel welcomed and I assure you that it won't be your last visit but with quality dessert comes long lines so beware, the atmosphere is always rather busy unless you catch them at the right time
Fernando Mayoral
The best things are simple, good ice cream is simple, some cream, eggs, milk and sugar, followed by the flavor you want to get and then cool it down, it's not rocket science, it was never rocket science, and it will never be rocket science not even if you put it on a rocket, good ingredients put to good use will get you good ice cream, anything else is just trying too hard to be "special", now that I've put aside that good flavor is expected as it's not hard to achieve, I can say that Giapo delivers that: good flavor, all the other things around it is just hype and pretentiousness, so my conclusion:<br/>Giapo is complicated, overly pretentious, and overpriced, I wouldn't pay again for it with my time.
Ashleigh Michelle
This 5/5 is for the best customer service I have ever received. So I came in on Tuesday with a friend, and I ordered the Manukua Honey Smoked Peanut Butter flavour. I love all things peanut butter, so thought why not this sounds interesting. However, the flavour was very disappointing, it was a very strong smoky flavour. Later I let the owner know how strong the flavour is, and he was very keen to hear my opinion and looks like it has been taken on board. He was genuinely interested and it is clear Giapo is striving to be the best. Also, the ladies helping us select flavours were so helpful and seemed to genuinely care about us. It has been a long time since I have received this level of customer service, especially from anything in hospo. I admire Giapo for their innovations, and ability to pull of some very unique flavour combos.
Chicken Wing
Absolutely delicious. Toppings always all work really well together and are presented beautifully. The service is great, they're all friendly and show a genuine care for you (e.g. Giving a cup of water to me personally afterwards and putting up with my indecisive testing and ordering). However be prepared to wait for quite a while, as this is such a popular place and the line is usually quite long, and I'm not sure if this is really worth the overly expensive price. But I still definitely recommend going at least once in a lifetime!
Maz S
It's not just an ice cream shop, it's an experience. Like the new shop at britomart so spacious. Ice creams as usual excellent and worth the money. Super excellent service. 4.5 stars because the new shop has lost the concept of preparing the ice cream in front of the customer. Thats used to be enjoyable to watch in the Queen st store.
Natalie Bell
The best place for ice cream in Auckland! 100% recommend! Service is great. Every flavour is delicious but I can never look past the afghan ice cream, my go to every time.
Kelvin
Compare to queen st, the walnut ice cream melts way too quickly and tastes too a bit too sweeter.<br/><br/>Overall price also increased and the $9 portion gets too small. Making it too expensive.
Jennifer Handel
GIAPO moved from Queen Street to Gore Street and on the bright side, the ice cream is still delicious an the design and the interior of the new store is stunning. My previous GIAPO experience: You couldn't see the ice cream, but you could try. The concept was to choose an ice cream by taste. The extraordinary, delicious ice cream with those fabulous toppings, OMG this is art! Yes, maybe a bit pricey, BUT every time I held one of those unique cones in my hands and started enjoying the ice cream. I admit, it was well worth it! I was excited when I went to the new store today and this is what happened: New concept: two counters, two ladies taking the orders. You can't see ice cream anywhere. A piece of paper mentions the flavours, so pick an ice cream without seeing, without trying, without actually knowing what the flavour 'On my way to Kerikeri' tasts like. Sure, you can ask and the ladies are happy to answer all your questions. I love hazelnut ice cream, so my decision was made before I entered the store, till the lady said 'Hazelnut comes pure. What means it comes without topping, because the taste is so rich.' Say WHAT? No art? I ate the Hazelnut ice cream a couple of times before and it always had a beautiful topping. Yes, agreed the taste is rich, doesn't change a thing, I WANT MY ICE CREAM ART. So I need to decide whether I want my favorite flavour OR art?! One scoop only. So you put me on a diet now? One is enough for me anyways, but as a customer I appreciate your recommendation, but I don't like to be told what to do and how much to eat. I pay. So I was sitting there looking at my scoop Hazelnut ice cream and I was sad and disappointed. I was looking forward to my art ice cream which I would have eaten with pride and pleasure. I started eating and the ice cream is still delicious. But in my opinion, on the way from Queen Street to Gore Street GIAPO must have lost the customer focus.
Ankur Mishra
The menu is great, the wait time is bit more than expected, but it's worth. The taste is awesome, and I think each time I visit this place, I can feel I have gained weight. My favorite is the Afghan. But everything else is worth a try, especially their novelty cups, made of different chocolates, so you practically eat the entire thing, and you become flabby.
Rose
Not on britomart anymore, but in a bigger store. <br/><br/>Pros:<br/>Holy shit great ice cream. Friend got the avocado and I got the vegan coconut milk. They actually fill the cone with ice cream not just the top which wins brownie points from me. <br/>Very fresh, cashier told us that they make them as soon as they're ordered. <br/>Attentive staff, always offering water or wet wipes. <br/>Lovely interior decor. Ambience was great. <br/><br/>Cons:<br/>Confusing layout. There are three seperate round tables with a menu that has delicious sounding names but not sure what they might be without rereading and asking for a few times. <br/><br/>The ice cream are not on display like movenpick or Wendy's. You just have to trust the cashier and yourself that you made a good choice. <br/><br/>Not enough seats. There are a little seating area outside as well as two benches. If they're taken up, you'll have to do a bit of walking for find someplace else to consume your dessert. <br/><br/>Pricey. Though to be fair they are of superb quality. Ours together came to about 25 dollars. <br/><br/>This place is an experience, not a pick me up ice cream treat like Ben and jerrys or yogurt story. You pay for quality. It's a once in a while treat. I'll come again but only on special occasions.

I. LOVE. GIAPO!!!! <br/>I had a mini heart attack when I found out they were closing the Queen St store, BUT SIGHED WITH RELIEF WHEN I READ THEY WERE MOVING TO A BIGGER STORE. <br/>The flavours and toppings are indescribable, I cannot have enough! <br/>I have a really big sweet tooth, and I usually always go for nutty or caramel flavours. Their flavours do change every now and then according to the season though!
Tips
Such an amazing experience everytime you go to Giapo, you get the background story and get to try the most popular flavors and any others you want. Not only are the ice cream creations out of this world but the outstanding service provided is just what makes the experience better and better. Whilst eating the beautifully decorated creation there is always someone who come round and provides complimentary shortbread, chocolate, water, napkins and wipes for when you are done which is what puts them on top, just amazing!!! :-)

The most exciting part of Queen Street, Auckland is surely the Giapo store. Since it’s explosive launch in 2008 it’s changed a lot of the years and I grew up spending many happy evenings with the gelato. My last visit was on my whirlwind Christmas trip back home and it’s changed even more now, though I do feel we’re growing apart. <br/><br/>You can’t see the flavours any more and although you can get samples, it was hard to understand the staff (loud) and it made the queue that much more longer. The garnishes are now even more extreme and it was hard to enjoy my Samoan caramel popo chocolate-filled yorkshire pudding ($12) with a cup of cocoa clouding my mouth and coating my clothes. Sugar levels were intense. I still admire the inventiveness of Giapo and it is a lot of fun, but I can’t help feeling it was better with more restraint and showcasing the gelato.

Giapo is fantastic, but if you stick with boring chocolate you're doing it wrong. The Tiramisu, Apple Tart Tatin, Afghan, and Hokey Pokey are all great choices (as I'm sure are many others). We're recognised on sight now and that often leads to a special discount for regulars which is both nice and makes it a great deal. Best ice cream in Auckland. Avoid the selfie cone though, too many selfie's in the world already... just photograph the awesome ice cream.

Their gelatos though, so rich in texture. With that orgasmic feel of flavour when you're eating it soooool good. Only been here once last year and don't have a logical explanation of why I did not go back. I need to go back.

Taste good. <br/><br/>But not very ordered, too crowded, menu not well-classified. The visitors and first time goers may be confused by how they make an ice cream. <br/><br/>Around 10bugs for a cone but worth it.

When me and my partner walked past this place to try it out. The line was out the door and onto the pavement. We were so excited to try it and was really hoping the wait would be worth it. IT WAS 100% WORTH IT! The ice cream texture was so smooth and creamy! My partner got the chocolate peanut donut cone and it was insanely sweet. If you have a huge sweet tooth then I recommend you try this one. I got the Afghan cookie ice cream and it was perfect with little cookie pieces in it. Do not get the cone if you don't want your shirt to get dirty or to create a mess because it tends to fall everywhere. No regrets and would come back again!

If you're in Auckland, this is a must-go place!! Really unique ice cream flavours and you won't leave hungry. I had the strawberry and cream, and it wasn't too sweet so I thoroughly enjoyed it. Slightly over priced and can be crowded sometimes, but the staff are really helpful and friendly, and it's totally worth it!
Danena Wu
Customer service is excellent, they're all very friendly and allow u to try the flavours u want. <br/><br/>The ice cream was a little too sweet for me though
Arushi Thapar
The best place in Auckland for ice cream. Their specialty is that they serve you handcrafted ice creams. Seeing the way they do the preparations makes you crave more. <br/><br/>I had the Giapo Buno and I fell in love with it. Without a doubt I can say that it's by far the best ice cream I've ever had.<br/><br/>As it is located in the heart of the city, you also get to enjoy the amazing view while you nibble onto your ice cream!
Jessica
Always a line way out the door, no matter if it's midday or late at night. Winter or summer. This is a must try place if your in the Auckland CBD. They don't let you see what the ice cream looks like, but you can have a taste test of them all if you want. They are updating the flavours regularly so it keeps it interesting each time you go. The decoration of every ice-cream is pure talent. Staff are extremely friendly and happy to help and answer all questions if you have any.

I was afraid, cause i've never been here and i couldn't see the flavours, but the cashier was so kind and she explain us everything, first asking if someone has special fooding habbits, so my sister only tried vegan ice creams. I finally ate peanut butter chocolate with peanut butter topping and a donut... A DONUT!!!and my sister a caramel whatever popo with powder chocolate... all delicious!but expensive... cheers from Chile!!if i would come back to nz i will be there again!!

If you've never been to Giapo you really need to visit. It's a tiny shop on Queen St but everything about what they do is fantastic right from the person who takes your order and allows you to taste test first. Then the people who make your order - so many amazing designs (be sure to check out the brûlée too). Then the person who walks the line giving out water, shots of hot chocolate taste testers & making sure the area is clean. All well worth the wait if there is one. <br/>They even ask you about & cater for allergies.<br/>Today we both tried the dairy free chocolate chip with rice bubbles & chocolate top in a cup. They also have come options too.

It was my first visit to the new shop on Gore Street. I wasn't sure what I was expecting but it sure wasn't like the Queen street shop.<br/><br/>You no longer have the ice cream counter right in front, instead you have counters. The kitchen is behind the counters and there are delicious aromas which waft through the shop. The menus are quite descriptive which is nice when you have a range of interesting flavours to choose from.<br/><br/>We ordered and sat outside and they brought our ice cream over to us. The ice cream is tasty and creamy and the toppings gives it that special feel. I also had the special chocolate cone which was chocolately and adds an extra extravagance. <br/><br/>Bit far from the old location but definitely worth the walk down.

yorkshire pudding is my favourite. crumchy and comforting. Graham cookies too hard to bite. toasted hazelnuts always the best toppings for sweet creamy icecream. donut with good texture but peanut butter just not that match with it for me because the peanut butter is very hard to melt in your cold mouth while eating the icecream.
Eggster Eats
Great ice cream and service but a little bit overpriced in my opinion. Would love to come in here again and try more flavours. I ordered the Chocolate Evolution and I found that it was decadent and filling for its size.
Caesar
To tell the truth. I don't like this shop. It's not about its price. The ice cream is too sweet. I have been this shop for 2 times. Every time I bought ice cream which is too sweet that I can't finish them. After I had half I felt nausea. If you just want to try you can buy one and share with your friends. If you want to go for delicious gelato, don't go.

I don't even think I need to write anything, just look at the pictures and decide for yourself if this is not the most amazing decadent gelato in Auckland.. <br/><br/>Such a cool concept and perfect for those of us with a major sweet tooth as even the single scoop gelato (pictured) is extremely rich and sweet. LOVE 😍
Christian
What should I say hmmm best ice cream in Auckland? It's more than that- not just the great fresh favours but also the brilliant service and artistic production. My only suggestion is to have a large venue as it can be cold sitting outside at night eating ice cream.

What have I been missing out on! First time trying Giapo and it wont be the last. The experience alone upon entering was amazing. The server was great, vibrant and passionate which was very refreshing. I liked the idea of trialing flavours without sight, it proved to be very exciting. Each flavour was so unique in their own individual way. I ordered a double flavour standard cone - Afghan x Giapo Buono, the balance of texture and flavour was absolutely divine. The price maybe a little steep for some, but it's just a representation on the quality which I believe is high. <br/><br/>Overall, a must try if you're ever out and about in the big smoke - I'm already planning my next visit... Too late<br/><br/>Giapo buono x Afghan (reversed)<br/>Chocolate peanut donut waffle cone

Apart from the long lines... Love this place! Guttered I didn't get a chance to try their donut ice cream though as it was only on offer for 3 days.. Afghan is definitely my favourite! And they let you test every flavour 😍

These ice creams are worth waiting in the cues for. Hands down the best gelato in Auckland! Love the authentic flavours and skilful decoration. Could do with a few more seats but a great dessert spot.

This is kind of boutique ice cream parlour with some delicious flavours and combinations.<br/>Size is massive and 2 people can easily share.<br/>They have quiet a unique flavours and all can be tasted before u arrive on final conclusion;-)<br/>Guys , a must try if you are in Auckland.

Giapo is a work of art and a great sensory experience if you’re in Auckland city. Upon arrival, we got to sample some hot chocolate (basically just melted chocolate) which was delicious and after we got to try the different flavours of ice cream. Unfortunately, the flavour I liked the most was sold out by popular demand so I had to go for second best. It’s quite interesting actually. You don’t actually get to view what the ice cream in a cabinet as you would in your usual ice cream parlour – they like you to choose by taste rather than appearance. I ordered the Bueno ice cream in a hazelnut chocolate cone and they turned it into this very chocolatey artistic creation. A lot of work goes into each and every cone – it’s quite cool. It’s probably worth mentioning that this place isn’t cheap – I never thought in my life that I would pay $22 for an ice cream cone…but, then again, it’s amazing what lengths people go to for the latest food trend. Would I go again? Maybe, but probably not. Despite the beautifully crafted cone, I have had better ice cream in the past but in saying that this place is a lovely spot for when you’re in the city and you need that extra little something sweet.

It's taste so good! And usually can't decide to taste which favor of the ice cream! And it's too big to one person eat, good to share with friends

When I first went to Giapo, I tried Giapo Buono and absolutely loved it! Caramel & hazlenut pralines ice cream coated with amaretti biscuits, torched Italian meringue and gold-dusted hazelnuts ✨ My favorite 👌🏻 had to have that a second time when I went back. Recently, my third visit, I went for Afghans! Guessing the components: afghan cookie bits ice cream, topped with some seriously yummy cereal crackles with a drizzle of caramel sauce to seal the deal and topped with an afghan cookie! This made a close second to Giapo Buono <br/><br/>Giapo is a fantastic place that I will always go back to. A one of a kind haute ice cream for sure 🙌🏼<br/><br/>Ambience: small and cramped, but designed to specifically lure you in and out in the most elegant way. There are several benches outside that are rarely vacant and not suitable for quality time but definitely for quality ice cream 😃👍🏼 <br/><br/>Food: I'll be honest here, these gelatos are worth every dollar and calorie. The ice cream itself is nice but what makes it extraordinary and keeps me coming back are the toppings. Specifically created to accompany the gelato and complement its taste, these toppings don't only look great, they actually taste great too! <br/><br/>Service: I got to try some mini hot choc and some sort of bread creation in tester samples while I was in the queue. I believe it's their way of keeping the long queue pleased somehow, and I was sold. The lady who served my 3 friends and I on my last visit was friendly, as they're supposed to be and was more than willing to let all of us try almost every single ice cream we were interested in. What impressed me was when one of us asked to try an ice cream flavor, she didn't cater to the demand of just one, she actually let all of us try it too. (This would almost explain the long queue- Giapo places quality experience on top of a quality product.)<br/><br/>Price: $8 for a cup is actually worth it to me. Many think Giapo is pricey - but I think it's affordable for what I get. The cone on the other hand, $20? Now, THAT is overpriced (but I would still want to try it someday). I love how they don't compromise on standards even for an $8 lovely creation. <br/><br/>Overall: Giapo is an excellent place and I love all my experiences with their creations. You may be wondering 'okay, so why a 4.5 if it's this amazing?'<br/><br/>1. My afghan cookie on my afghan Giapo was not a nice cookie (as in it didn't taste good). Surely, that has to count.<br/><br/>2. This isn't a bad thing, but it could be a love-hate thing for me, but I do (kinda) wish to see what the gelatos look like and wish there was a visual picture menu pre-ordering, instead of relying on the choice of my tastebuds (that ultimately determines what kind of toppings I'm destined to get.) *explained further under note. <br/>Beside the thought of engaging our tastebuds to the gelato itself, rather than 'selecting a gelato by its topping', could it also be because these babies are so intricately compiled together (and also by different people), I would presume it's also to maintain the quality of their product. You know, just incase a gelato doesn't turn out like the 'expected' product from a menu. Or also because they tend to have new creations and may not want to commit to a fixed menu with visuals and details of the variety of flavors. <br/><br/>NOTE: <br/>- there's almost always a (long) queue and I'm not surprised, but it's worth it, trust me.<br/>- A few of my friends say that it is too sweet for them, so they do find it difficult to finish (and thus, may not think it's worth it or enjoy it fully); so something to keep in mind if you don't have such a sweet tooth. I'm sure they have options that are less sweet. Giapo Buono is definitely not for one that doesn't have a sweet tooth. <br/>- You can't see the selection of gelato flavors, and will have to make your choice based on the name and experience of testing them; also, you won't know exactly how your selected gelato would look like (toppings and all) based on the menu and 'experience' of selecting your base. You could, however, check out photos prior. Yay for zomato!

I've never met anybody who hasn't enjoyed Giapo, and it's  not difficult to see why. Delectable gelatos, novel concept, and absolutely fantastic service, even at peak times with long queues, the drinks and nibbles provided makes even the wait enjoyable, stimulating the taste buds in anticipation of the goods to come. Their methods guarantee a flavour you'll enjoy, and the price is nothing for the opportunity to taste everything. Giapo is something Auckland can boast about, an absolute must-try.

A friend and I went in the weekend. First time going there. Got there explained how it all worked. My friend got a donut ice cream and I got a custard yorkshire ice cream. Wait was less than five minutes which is good considering there is normally a huge line. Ice cream was nice, the concept of eating it out of a yorkshire pudding was odd, my friend thought the same with her donut. My friend didn't even eat 1/2 her dessert. I finished my ice cream but not the pudding. Overall it was nice. I expected more from the hype and how busy it was whenever I've been past.

These ice creams are the best I've had in NZ. Many flavours to choose from, and really good quality ingredients. A bit pricey, but well worth it.

The best artisan gelato ever exist. The place where i never regret wasting my calories. Handmade gelato with the best flavors! They literally make everything fresh daily. You wont be able to see how the ice cream look, but they will let u try each of them until u found ur own flavor. Too many surprises too much love 😍 Auckland Eats
Max Freemynd
this is not an ice-cream... this is an event!<br/><br/>awesome and authentic gelato place where you get to try as many flavors as you like and you can get full before you even order your own which is a feast... my suggestion, skip dinner and come straight here for desert.
Chloe Jones
This place is amazing. If you have a big sweet tooth I would definitely recommend them. I found that the KISS was too sweet but still amazing. The cool thing is that you don't get to see the ice cream its all on taste.

Another to stop and have it place in Auckland, very well located on the most happening queen street serving one ice creams in the most amazing way.<br/>Friday evening with a friend after a wonderful Korean food it was dessert time and we had this place on our list. the place in evening can be easily located with long queue of people waiting outside to make an experience.<br/>Well we almost stand there for 15 minutes enjoying the windy winter evening in Auckland. We were on the door checking the place around, with menu prices and the way they serve. I found that it was a very small place for people to move around and wait to order but they have managed the show very well.<br/>Well on our turn since it was our 1st visit they explained how it works allowing us to taste the variety of flavor After tasting 6 odd flavors which were all good made it a difficult choice.Well after deciding the flavors which more over quite similar to any good company the attraction point was the decoration, they just garnish your ice cream with the stuff which blends best with a particular flavor. They give importance to their products specialty and that it is what it makes them different from the market. <br/><br/>A must go place, a value for money product and the time you wait in queue is worth waiting.
Lisa Pearson
I went with a bunch of friends on friday night. It was freezing cold but it was still packed. We waited in the queue for about 10 mins but once inside everything happened really fast. We were handing samples of the ice cream (you can't see it in the front). I did feel a bit rushed when ordering. there wasn't much variety of ice cream but what I did get was delicious. Deinatly worth the wait and price but not really something I would go to every week. It's a once every 6 months sort of thing. It was delicious though.
Daly
Really like this place, so different with their decorative cones, and the odd toppings that perfectly fight the gelato choice! Just such a small shop and always has a line out the door
Bernice Yap
You'll be greeted with a queue when you arrive. Afterwhich, the crew will personally talk you through their flavours for the day. You'll blind taste till you like a flavour. You'll not be able to physically see the flavours in the chiller. For $8, youl get a cup with your chosen flavour and have their dress it up with tasty and instagram worthy toppings! I am a fan of ice-cream surely but theirs is quite overwhelmingly sweet for me. Will i try again? Maybe. But surely you gotta try their concept if youre new in town!
Eva Mill
Have always loved going to Giapo and I'm a frequent customer, however my experience last week has put me off. My partner and I ordered 1 vegan cookie icecream and 1 samoan caramel ice-cream. The lady doing the icecream accidently put them both flavours on one cone, and gave it to us. When we told her we actually ordered 2 seperate icecreams, she just made another cone with the 2 flavours together again. Although she didn't charge for the extra scoop, there was no offer to make a new one- the reason we originally got two seperate icecreams was because I didn't like the cookie flavour and he didn't like caramel. We were given 2 double scoop icecreams, of flavours we didn't love. This experience has put me off coming to Giapo
Ellynn
Went here the day after I arrived at Auckland. I loved the fact that they actually interact with you so you'll find the one you really like. I didnt like that im 5ft and I couldnt see the girl helping me because the bar was too high for me. Also the ice cream was really creamy and rich. Definitely just for once in awhile or else, ill turn into an obese.
Jessica Li
This is place is honestly amazing! It's so artistic! Their ice cream is a cross between art and gastronomy 👍 I normally get the Giapo buono but I decided to try the siamo popo and afghan kiss. It was so decadent and pretty as well. My sister had the cookies and cream and it was super yummy as well and healthy-ish as it was vegan and gluten free :p nevertheless this place is honestly so creative and I love how you can't see them make the ice cream which makes it even more exciting :) defs recommend

Love coming here with friends, lots of choices, really super friendly staff and the Gelato tastes great. Place is always packed and it's completely understandable.
Jeanelle Isidro
Honestly the BEST GELATO I have tasted! Definately 5 stars for the overall experience. <br/><br/>Went here for the first time with some friends and we were not sure how it works. The staff who assisted us kindly explained how it works and was very friendly and patient as we decide on what to order. The gelato itself is super delicious! Despite the expensive $$$, the taste and presentation is worth it. I would recommend this gelato joint to friends and family!
Kerryj
Visiting a gelateria is always a feast for the eyes...except here at Giapo, their icecream is now a hidden treat, one must trust to their menu - enticing names on a board hinting at what you might receive. I'm more a purist and would rather have a straight gelato of exceptional flavour than the gaudy confection that I ended up with. I want the old Giapo with lots of extravagant flavours on display.
Samantha Brown
Is a super cool creative place where you can customise your food however I'm not convinced that the actual ice cream was worth the price. It has become more popular now that it has gained more publicity so there are now queues out the door so I suggest picking a less busy time to go so you don't have to wait. Would recommend to try!
Evaline Shandil
Went here a while back just because of the hype. The taste was average however the price was way too much compared to what we got. <br/><br/>The service was okay as well <br/><br/>But the price I think is ridiculously expensive
Sus.licious
It was good, but was it exceptional?! Hmmmm.. It looked really fancy with all the colours and decorations, especially the cute big red lips on the cone.

After 9 days on a cruise ship, we desperately ventured out to find a change in cuisine and this was possibly the best choice we made!. Wendy’s Hamburgers, Auckland. Cuisine: fast food, burgers, fries. Oil your tummies with chilli fries, the American way, with mince beef, beans and topped with a dollop of guacamole.
Miss Terry Foodie
The best ice cream I have ever tasted! It was worth the line and the crowd inside the gelato shop. I ordered 'Christchurch Hazelnut' and it tasted like a Ferrero but it wasn't too sweet. Everything was put in perfectly. The hosts were very nice and helpful plus I was offered, scratch that ... ~given~ water as well, didn't expect such hospitality from a little shop ..! I hope they upgrade to a larger place to make it a more pleasing experience. Though it certainly didn't affect my opinion about the quality of the their products. Very worth the price. <br/><br/>Little tip: Don't go in there thinking you're gonna spend $5 for an ice cream!!! It has a pretty hefty price attached to it, which I must admit, something that made this experience a luxury treat only. (Spent $30 for 2 people)
M
Pretty pricy but quite worth it. I'm lactose intolerant, therefore, it is quite difficult for me to have desserts in large quantities especially gelato/ice-cream. Luckily, they had coconut and fruit based sorbets. I got the cookies and cream sorbet and my friend got the Kiss special. I enjoyed the toppings very much and the ice-cream itself. I usually do not like anything too sweet but this was just amazing!
Jess Kingi
Went to Giapo last night and it was an amazing experience. I had seen the prices before I went there and had thought that the ice creams with the amazing looking toppings were considered the "premium cones" but was rapt to learn that the amazing pictures I had seen were their typical cones they offered! The staff made the visit even more enjoyable! When we arrived we were given a hot chocolate and short bread taster and were given the opportunity to try many ice cream flavours when we were choosing. We choose the afghan (pictured) and Christchurch hazelnut ones - Not only did they look awesome but they tasted amazing!

🍨Ice cream • Gelato • Sorbet🍨🍓🍋🍑🌿<br/><br/>Auckland famous "fashionable and artistic" gelato shop😊 Located just by the Auckland Civic theatre. They are world's top 10 gelateria. <br/>You can choose either waffle cone, or cup. Or luxuriously decorated deluxe cones! <br/><br/>They offer you to taste their product before you older and you can taste much as you want! <br/><br/>For more info: <br/>http://giapo.com

So expensive ! <br/>Yet so good I don't think I would go back here regularly but I def recommend ! I had the chocolate hazelnut but cup with hazelnut ice cream and it was the best !! Service here is really good too!!
Shehan Irundika
Best ice-cream I've ever had.. tops every ice cream ice ever tried.. Christchurch hazelnut is the best seller but with the cone.. even though I had the cup.. awesome staff and good service.. good job ladies..
Lisa Kim
The long queue might be due to the endless tasting of the mysterious flavoured ice creams. Most staffs were bright and active, the service was not too fast. Fantastic toppings can never be found from any other ice cream shop. The price is higher than movenpick ice cream which I could taste OKO next corner but the uniqueness of here is worth trying.
Frank Lin
this is a disappointing place and i was interested due to its 4.7 rating. <br/><br/>the ice cream was too sweet and pricey.<br/><br/>the service was horrendous with the staff asking you random and silly questions to pass the time.<br/><br/>the long queues make it a hassle to get your desert <br/><br/>overall, this place is overrated.
Alina Mansuevna
It was the best ice cream I've ever tried. That place is always crowded and busy whatever the time is. But it definitely worth to stay a bit in the line, because the taste of their ice creams is not compared with others. They also do a nice design for it. Must-to-go place. But hope they would have some more choices of ice cream in the future...

GIAPO wow! amazing great place nice and friendly and so helpful always had a big smile great flavours amazing presentation all around great vibes from this store definitely on the pricier side for ice cream but is absolutely worth it cant wait to visit again :D xo
Veganista
Wow! My first time visiting was fantastic! The girl who served me was very helpful and gave us a couple of tasters before we decided on the vegan cookies and cream, which came covered in chocolate, rice bubbles and a beautiful chewy cookie! Unfortunately I couldn't finish it all as it was very sweet, but I will definitely be back to try the feijoa flavour.

Reading reviews the hilarious thing that strikes me is how everyone complains how expensive Giapo is ($10 a scoop) yet just round the corner Hula Cat (don't get me wrong I love Hula Cat) charges $6-$7.50 for sugared tea / sugared milk powder water with jelly or pearls and no one is posting on their page how ridiculous their prices are. The quality and skill that goes in to Giapo ice cream far exceeds pearl milk tea which nothing is made from scratch. <br/><br/>At most Cafes smoothies are $9. Throw some ingredients in to a blender and people willingly shell out for that. But lovingly created ice cream at Giapo gets points off for wanting $10 a scoop to cover insane rent on queen st and to make a living from their craft. <br/><br/>We should be applauding the passion and love Giapo have for ice cream but haters gunna hate. Why we gotta hate y'all?
Aroha Kay
I went here after a dinner date and the ice cream was amazing I got a coconut ice cream in the cup as I didn't think I could eat a whole cone. All in all one of those have to try once experiences along with a $30 burger from the white lady truck 😊<br/>
Wang Xiaorui
Feeling it's amazing at the first taste. But, really too sweet!!! Can't image the how much sugar I will take in after having one scoop. Anyway, nice design and services. Almost long lines every time I walk by...
Michelle Hwang
The first time to visit there was around 4 years ago, it's a free single scoop from Mr. Dotcom's sweet treatment. Today I visited there again and ordered 1 luxury cup cone with 2 flavors for $ 20.00 Um ... too expensive, too fat and too much sugar. Can pay more for design, but not for more unhealthy materials.
Queena
Been here before but haven't been back in aaaaggggessss. The line is always massive day and night -just can't be bothered lining up for ages for ice cream/gelato. Recently went back with friends and obviously the line wasn't as long around the colder seasons. <br/><br/>The lady there was friendly and said we could try any flavours. So we did. Not too many flavours to choose from. In the end, I got the "siamu popo" which was the Samoan caramel. It was a very unique flavour. Was quite nostalgic. Reminded me of a lolly that I use to eat as a kid. Was a nice coconut-caramel flavour. And it wasn't overly sweet which was great. <br/><br/>Was definitely quite pricey for such a small scoop. Even Ben and Jerry's have a bigger (one) scoop than these guys 😕 <br/><br/>Either all, will only come back when it's not busy and I happen to have a sweet tooth 😝

ive tried a few flavours (a sorbet-y one and another i dont remember; this was a few years ago, ok… i have a bad memory) but i return for the tiramisu ice cream, the love of my life………. <br/><br/>i love the creativity of the place; the list of flavours are all so intriguing and tempting and the presentation is both visually pleasing and tasty (except i always inhale the cocoa powder (?) sprinkled on top and end up coughing and making a mess. otherwise its good though). the ice cream itself is also good-- its not just a pretty face, it genuinely tastes good too<br/><br/>the one thing about giapo that brings it down from 5/5 to 4.5/5 (other than the coughing thing) is the price…… i mean, it is worth it (otherwise id never have returned) but the scrooge mcduck in me quacks out in pain when i realise ive spent THAT much on an icecream (albeit a very good ice cream). they do let you sample the ice creams before committing to one flavour, which lessens the risk of paying for something you end up disliking. ive never actually done that because i only ever order the same thing… which is because of the risk because of the price but its actually all my own fault for not just taste testing the others. damn. i played myself<br/><br/>…anyway, overall a great place for a treat and a place id encourage everyone to try at least once
Simmo
I can't even describe how insane this gelato was. Nothing I've ever had has compared to it! I ordered a deluxe chocolate cone with 2 scoops. The Christchurch hazelnut and Giapo special flavours were out of this world! I was amazed when the lady started to dip my gelato into crushed nuts before coating it in marshmallow and torching it! What a venue!
S.M
Love it here! When you walk in you are always greeted by such lovely staff & allowed to sample the flavours before you buy. Having a few delicious vegan options is a bonus too for those who can't have dairy! <br/>Worth the cost - absolutely yum!!

I'm not exactly the person you'd go to for ice cream advice, but I'm reviewing the place anyway. They've got good ice cream is all I can say. Thought I cannot for the life of me figure out why the ratings are through the roof. I've had such ice cream before and if it weren't as good as these guys are, well they'd best be selling off a bloody grocery store shelf wouldn't they?<br/>If you're going to go to an ice cream parlour, you expect the quality they have, which I give to them, is good. But what's with the swarms outside the shop and the endless waiting and the sky-ripping ratings?<br/>I guess it's just a name now that has spread as word and then people come. And where people come is where more people want to come and that's just it<br/>¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Seriously Foodie
Been here a couple of times before and have always enjoyed the amazing flavours and beautiful garnishing. However lately they only have three or four flavour of ice creams and also the ice cream is not as creamy as before. Disappointing!!!!

<br/>Paid a visit to this outlet located at Queen Street. Beautiful decor. Wonderful ambience but the crowd was huge. Did not get a place to sit. There was a fair queue and had to wait around 10 minutes for our order. We were offered small shortcake cookies by the outlet staff. They were Yum Yum!<br/><br/>Orders: 10$ ones<br/>Afgan Cookies(with Cornflakes)<br/>Giappo buono(with Nut)<br/><br/>Both of them tasted good but they were too sweet as per our tastes. We love sweetness but we Indians aren't used to this much. Thus, couldn't finish it.<br/>Crispy Cornflakes is like an icing on the cake.

I highly recommend this place to Ice-cream lovers. Instead of saying Hand-made ice-creams "Hand Crafted" ice-creams will be an Apt word for them.<br/><br/>Each Ice-cream is made artistically with unique decorations, toppings. Rare variety of flavours you could find nowhere else but the selections are very limited to 5 or 6 varieties.<br/><br/>Extremely friendly and welcoming Staff here who welcomes always with a smile and let you try all their flavours patiently.$10 for One Scoop cone Ice-cream is decent price comparing with the Quality, quantity and their greatest service.

Not your ordinary ice cream... Uniquely well presented ice cream and an instagram worthy... Love the flavours as well... Highly recommended...

I decided to brave the crowds for Giapo to see for myself what all the fuss was about. Overall a good experience, very friendly staff and amazing ice creams. The best way to describe them would be that they were very ornate. I ordered a salted caramel flavor and it came with hand toasted marshmallow on top and gold hazelnuts. It was a bit too decadent for me though
Jessica Donovan
A trip to this place is a meal within itself; especially if you have two scoops. Whilst the ice cream flavours are to die for, the wow factor comes from the toppings placed by your friendly server.

After seeing many photos on Instagram I had to try this place for myself! There was about a 15-20minute wait inline, but they would come out with little tasters which I thought was great. We tried all the flavours they had to offer that night which were all delicious. My fav was the Giapo Bueno which was similar to a ferroro rocher. I wish this place had proper seating I would then be here all the time!

I always have a great experience with Giapo. They make each visit personalised and have staff that are so lovely and attentive, getting you to try different flavours and the finished product is always well presented. I had a double scoop cup of the kerikeri avocado gelato and afghan cookie gelato. I must say this probably wasn't the smartest flavour combo, and the avocado would have worked better with a dark chocolate gelato. The avocado flavour, however, was amazing... such a good balance of sweetness and was smooth to taste. The afghan cookie flavour was as it is described, like a cookie. They decorated my gelato with white chocolate and macadamias, it looked great and tasted even greater. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting gelato in the cbd!

Giapo is creative, beautiful and unique. By bringing together flavours from every corners of NZ, Giapo propels ice-creams to the next level. You are not paying for an ice-cream but a one-of-a-kind product of NZ culinary art. They even come up with spectacular deluxe cones and cups that are too pretty to eat 😂 I have been a regular from 2010 and the business has changed a lot since then. It has blossomed so much that there is always a long waiting line in front of the store. While you wait to buy ice-cream, the staff give you baked treats and water. During one of my many visits to this place, the owner brought out menus and drinks for waiting customers, making delightful conversation. And because I already knew what I wanted to order, he offered to order it for me so I wouldn't have to wait. I consider that exceptional customer service. If it's your first time here, or even if it's not, you are offered to sample every flavour until you can make a decision, and I can assure you that it's a very tough choice to make. However, my favourite and also a classic at Giapo is the Christchurch Hazelnut. Please try it next time you're here. I hope they continue the good work and don't open a second store. Keep it unique ^^ and maybe they should consider making ice-cream boxes to take home coz i would love to have some Giapo in my fridge!

One of the most popular ice cream shops in Auckland. You can see lots of fancy cones when u walk in this store. The staff make amazing ice cream. They shape the ice cream beautifully and even use fire to decorate it. It's bit of sweet to me, but I believe sweet tooth will love love love this place.

I scream for an ice cream. A must visit place for ice cream lovers like me. Not only you will get mouth watering flavours, you will also be spellbound by their exquisite service. The staff is very friendly which will add to the flavour of the ice cream. They have a very unique way of presenting the ice cream with when ch you will fall into love.

My absolute favourite place to get dessert, just when I think I'm done with giapo I want it again, if you're a chocolate fan I highly recommend the Christchurch hazelnut flavour and the toppings on the giapo buono flavour are to die for.

For the price of the ice cream - $10 for a tiny scoop, I expect great service, which I used to get until today. <br/><br/>I used to bring my tourist friends here and also knowing it is number 1 on trip advisor but after today The service I received was appalling, I don't know if I'll recommend. Eating ice cream should be a happy occasion but the server has ruined the experience. MORE TRAINING AND an ATTITUDE fix should be given. I may just have been unlucky to get the particular person. <br/><br/>As I patiently line up with my dad who is visiting from overseas (whom I was excited to show him the whole "surprise topping" concept and friendly service who carefully explains every flavour), we were greeted by a lovely lady handing us freshly made chocolate and shortbread. Great start!!!! <br/><br/>Then it was our turn.... There was an empty space by the counter but somehow nobody greeted us to guide and serve us. I had to step forward and was greeted with a stare. And a very soft "have you been here before?" I said no, on behalf of my dad and next thing you know it, she softly says we can try any flavour on the board and no other explanations given. No story behind why we cannot see our ice cream! How do we choose???! <br/><br/>So I say can We try a bit of everything but we will share a spoon. And she blankly stares and rudely says sarcastically "oh, you want to try everything????? That will take a loong time the ". I think if she explained the flavours or the concept better, it would help me more in choosing. <br/><br/>So she sighs and scoops us a sample sooooo damn fast and speaks so damn soft that even before I have tasted any I already have 3 spoons in my hand. And when I can't remember the ice cream she just goes I don't know what you tried. Seriously, who can eat ice cream that fast and who has supersonic ears?<br/><br/>She had on the rudest face, and sometimes I wonder if she is treating us like that because we look like tourist when I am not! Not a great feeling. <br/><br/>Ended up rushing to just pick a flavour because can't even remember or hear what she is saying and giving us, just so we can get an ice cream and stop looking at her blank face.<br/><br/>I only got an ice cream because I wanted my dad to try and see the final product. But overall, horrible lady!!!! I wish I had the guts to complain there and then.<br/><br/>If anybody gets that same lady who doesn't smile or tells you a happy ice cream flavour story, hope you tell her off on behalf of me.

One of the best..or probably the best boutique ice cream parlor in Auckland. I come here once a month and invariably every time there are new flavors different than the ones before. However, what does not change is the crowd waiting to be served and the pleasant staff members who are patient, well informed and proud of what they are selling. The free short bread tastings are just the perfect way to keep oneself busy while you wait for your turn. One of the best flavors iv had here is strawberry cheesecake..I hope you guys bring it back soon. If you are an ice cream lover then this is a place you cannot afford to miss!! Oh, one last thing..the prices are understandably on the higher side than the usual move n pick types..totally worth it!!

Experience consuming gelato in a different way. It won't only satisfy your taste bud but also your eyes as well. Very well presented. Price worthy too 👌🏼

Unbeatable. After traveling the nation and some of the world, looking for the best ice-cream; eating a new flavour and looking for a new outlet each day, I think I may have found what I was looking for. Giapo is beauty. They take ice-cream seriously and have recognized it as the fine, complex and delicate art that it is. It's over the top, extravagant and maybe a bit confusing, which is exactly why you should love it as much as I do. They've turned something seemingly simple, like getting an ice-cream into a unique and thoughtful experience. A Giapo ice-cream is incomparable to any other ice-cream you've ever had. If you care about yourself, you must have at least one, if not more, go back, because the flavours are always changing too, keeping a unique experience each visit

We've been wanting to try Giapo for ages now, so with only a few weeks left in Auckland we thought we'd venture here after lunch nearby. The service was incredibly friendly from the outset, and having not been before were more than happy to explain how everything worked to us. We tried a few flavours before we settled on the christchurch hazelnut and the afghan cookie, which we ordered in a cup to share. The ice cream itself is the best we've ever had and with such a wide range of choices there is something for everyone. The sorbet was great too when we tried it, very refreshing! They decorate each ice cream individually as well which is great and really sets them apart from other ice cream parlours. The price is higher than elsewhere however it's worth it when you consider the whole experience! The only slight downside (and why we didn't rate it a 5.0) is that after a while, despite sharing, the ice cream got very sickly and just a bit much. Not sure how people manage a whole one themselves but kudos to them! Very very nice though and definitely worth a visit at least once!

I Love this place! Always new and exciting flavours to try. Excellent service. Attention to detail in everything. Best gelato in Auckland. Period.

An awesome ice cream parlour visited with my friends on Queen Street. It seems to be an icon of its own. Though a very small place, yet an unique style of presenting rich & creamy ice creams from behind the counter. Giapo Bouno is one of my most favourite. The staffs are friendly & caters fast. The store may often found to be over crowded.....but to get a yummy cream, it's worth waiting. Will love to visit again.

Some local friends were quite insistent that I visit this premier ice-cream parlour. It was an ice-cream experience like no other. We were given a virtual tour of the ice-creams and their various flavours (plus some tasting!) before settling on our chosen selection.

Giapo is a famous ice cream shop on Queen street, an icon by itself & located near to the Civic carpark & the Aotea Square. Noticed a bit of a queue at the place, a staff member was serving little treats to clients waiting in the queue, informing them about what was still available and she was really a gem of a person, & in my opinion the real star of the evening! I would not have felt bad if after waiting for long & they said sorry, ran out of icecream, but this star made it a truly great customer experience by her gracious manner & excellent public relations skills. For a change I am praising a staffer more than their ice creams! Which reminds me we took a few samples first and chose the caramel flavoured Giapo option and a Peach combo. The Avocado is another healthy choice too. They ran out of cones by the time we ordered, as I said before it was the niceness of that young lady which saved their day. So although we had the items in cups, it detracted from the experience by the missed cones. Albeit the organic quality of Giapo is legendary! The presentation flawless & the staff preparing the servings are true artists! Not sure if there is a title like Ice Cream Chef. However all said and done, they may be able to improve the seating outside a wee bit. I imagined visions of a bouncer or two at the door to this rather exclusive icy-club. No such luck. Such was the anxiousness of people waiting in line. They closed at the stipulated time and yet there were couples who wanted to enter for a little ice delight or two, such is the quality of Giapo! Certainly recommended but do not go late nearer their closing time, unless you love a gamble & hate cones. A tad well priced for the scoops we had but once again, when you want a truly, pure as NZ, ice cream; you go to Giapo.

I've been frequenting Giapo since its early days. I never leave this place disappointed. It's staff remain friendly and efficient and the gelato is always on point. Bloody LOVE this place!!!!!

You might feel a little bit shocked about the prices, but its definitely delicious.<br/><br/>Giapo has a small but tasty variety of ice creams. Once you get into the small place, probably after a line, you can try any of the flavours. Which is good, since they have some creative recipes that you can't really guess how they will taste.<br/><br/>I got myself an avocado ice cream, which came with white chocolate and nuts covered with dark chocolate. The flavours really matched and, besides that, the result was pretty beautiful.<br/><br/>One drawback is that they have only a few unconfortable seats, so don't expected to enjoy your dessert inside the place.

Just crossing by the CBD street, I saw a huge crowd strangled at a small counter. And I couldn't stop myself stepping in it. One of the staff member, she was extremely sweet, gave briefing about the parlour, their flavours, description of different flavours, the combination of dressings. A must visit for everyone staying out there or on a visit to Auckland. <br/>They offer unique methodology and every cone comes as a surprise. <br/>

Very friendly staffs. <br/>I had this ice cream around 2 years ago and it was so yummy.<br/><br/>Today I went there again, they changed their ice cream and the way they served it. <br/>It was way too sweet. Extremely sweet ice cream.  It was so sweet and so heavy. On the top of the ice cream they put cream, caramel, liquid chocolate, peanuts. I couldn't finish it because it was too sweet.  My friends also said the same thing and they couldn't finish it. <br/><br/>For $12 (2 flavors) I think that is quite steep. <br/><br/>Hopefully they will change their recipe.  <br/>For now, I prefer to go to other normal ice cream parlors (e.g. Moevenpick).
Mikayla Plaziuk
Fast and friendly service as soon as you walk in the door! Found the size of the place plus the busyness a little over whelming. I liked how they asked about allergies and how they let you try all the flavours although by the end we both had forgotten what we tried and just winged it with our final choice. The outside seating is nice and the decorations are quite cute!
Judy Chhy
I really do enjoy this place but it is super pricy it is nice to try once but I wouldn't go back it's just really pretty but other than that, that's pretty much it. I would recommend just get one between 2 people cause me and my partner couldn't finish it
Thegreeats
What can I say<br/>It's very pricey but the moment you take your first mouthful your wallet won't regret <br/>Very exciting flavours- found an avocado flavoured one <br/>My favorite is the hazel nut and chocolate and their pistachio !<br/>Love how they do cool toppings that complement your choice of flavour !<br/>Must try
Chow Yum Fat
The first few spoonfuls were nice but Giapo's ice cream got sickly for both myself and my wife really quickly. It's sweet on sweet, cream on cream. The ice cream really needed other elements (perhaps more fruit, more biscuity bits, something!) to balance out the overpowering richness. Wish we could have selected our toppings rather than have them decided for us. <br/><br/>Staff are polite but the way the ice cream bar is run is far too slow and inefficient. The night we visited, the cash register had broken so there was even more panic amongst the girls working behind the counter. Good for a single visit but at 12.00 NZD for two flavours of ice cream Giapo is a rip-off.<br/><br/>NB - I'm from Sydney and we have Gelato Messina which is way tastier (IMHO) and better value.
Hanan
Always a pleasure! Never here often enough, worth the wait; and the flavours always remind me of why its worth the drive😊😊 love the use of fresh NZ ingredients and produce😋😋😋😋

I really like how they advertise their ice cream by the taste instead of how it looks like. This place never lets me down. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a delicious treat :)

Oh dear god! My daughter and I went for dessert last night and it was the perfect choice. So decadent! The girl that served us was wonderful! I can't even remember the names of the two vegan flavours I got but they were incredible. One was a caramely one and one was chocolate peanut butter - it was all soooo good. My daughter got strawberry and hokey pokey and loved them. So delicious!

This ice-cream parlour is a hidden gem amongst the busy main strip in the heart of the city. Although this place isn't huge, the flavour selection on offer makes up for it! It's obvious why this place is such a hit, with its range of unique and original flavours. Always enjoy the rich and creamy consistency of the ice-cream. The staff are friendly and good. With a reasonably amount of seating you have the choice to eat in or takeaway, plus it's always up pretty late! Would recommend if your in the area! 🍧🍨🍦

Look, I could tell you all about the amazing flavours I have eaten here (Afghan Cookies, Chocolate Evolution, etc), but save the time and head there now. This is how ice cream should be done.
Sungsam7
It's an ice cream parlour with a point of difference isn't it. The mini induction to the delights that await. The array of cleverly decorated cones. The out of the ordinary at times flavours that makes you feel like a 5 year old in a candy store...it's an experience that one has to try when in Auckland.<br/>The service here is well practiced and that's a good thing especially when you are not frowned upon should one wish to sample many flavours - so i love the try before you buy approach. I was impressed with the Siamu Popo which is what my ma use to make us as kids for our fresh bread so I'd never seen it as ice cream! Daughter settled for strawberries and cream and being a fussy eater gave it the thumbs up. Said it was the best tasting strawb ice cream she'd had. Very creamy and...strawberrish. The cone crisp and fresh to the taste. I mean look at the presentation what's not to like!
Cecilia Paredes
Giapo is one of my favourite experiences in Auckland. Something distinctive is how they don't let you see the ice creams so instead, they give you generous samples of the flavours they have on the board. They let you judge by taste instead of looks and you can ask to sample as many flavours as you like! One of my all time favourites is Giapo Buono, which they usually keep as an ongoing flavour. Albeit expensive, it is the best ice cream experience you will ever have - the way the cones and cups are presented and most importantly, the way they taste is nothing short of incredible.
Ashlene Cheryl Cardoza
By far the best ice cream I've ever had. The staff is so friendly and the service is impeccable. I got offered some water while I waited for my ice cream, the staff checked if I needed extra napkins while seated outside...such attentive service! Coming back to the ice creams...I tried the half and half cup of strawberry and cream and the Keri Keri avocado flavour. My ice cream was topped with white chocolate, chocolate coated macademia nuts and toasted lentils. The portion was generous. The ice cream looked too pretty to eat. And the taste was amazing...definitely the best in auckland. At $10 for a cup, it maybe a bit expensive but worth every single penny and more.<br/><br/>This place is like the disneyland of ice creams :)
Whiskyncigars
Edited since last reviewed. <br/>Moved to Britomart now and they have this new pretentious set up where you can't sample before buying and if that's not stupid enough, the increase their price dramatically and even if that was not stupid enough they don't let you have two different flavours anymore. A move designed to force you to buy your own so you can't share 2 flavours. <br/>This is from a guy who went on Interviews slating the evil landlords and how they increased his rent so much he had to move yet he is doing the same to his customers. I used to advocate for this place and go there frequently and I live in the city but discovering that miann around the corner does better gelato now for cheaper, I rather go there. I can still sample before I buy without risk of not liking the flavour. <br/>Also your 'consultative' approach to telling us about the flavours is stupid. Sample. Stop being so pretentious and decrease your price back.

I love Giapo! I can't miss it when I'm in town! My favourite is the giapo benuo, followed by afghan and chch hazlenut! so yummy and delish! hits the sweet spot.

Had their ice cream yesterday for the first time with my wife. Customer service was very very good. Awesome taste and lookings. Did not try deluxe one as bit expensive. Wanna go there again.

Dont waste your money on the deluxe versions!! The chocolate cup was too much after the ice cream, i barely ate half. The staff make the regular cup/cone super fancy with extras anyway! The chocolate cup wasnt anywhere near as good as I expected, however the ice cream is absolutely delicious!!
Jyothi Madanlal Chhabria
Legendary! They have a menu of ice creams which Keeps getting reinvented with limited time specials. An experience worth every cent spent. Their ordering area does get a bit too crowded but I am not complaining
IMoha89
The best ice cream shop over the country!<br/><br/>With creative style and flavours, this ice cream will take you to another world 😁<br/><br/><br/>I'll miss it when I got back home.

Giapo needs to be tried more than once! <br/><br/>On my first visit I felt confused because i didn't know what I was getting until I got it other than flavour choice......I'm the person who sees a dish go past in a restaurant and I'll ask what it is.<br/><br/>Now knowing how the process works, my second visit was better. We also managed to be there at a low time which meant there was no queue and seats available.<br/><br/>My selection of Kumeu strawberries was combo of beautiful strawberries and cream covered in flaked almonds- stunning! The smell and taste captured everything beautifully ripe strawberries embody.<br/><br/>My daughters selection was the lemon sorbet which was beautifully tart and covered in poppy seeds like the quintessential Kiwi lemon poppyseed loaf. <br/><br/>Will be back!!

Wow wow wow! The worlds most fanciest and delicious gelato sold here! The staff have the patience of a saint and memory of an elephant, describing each ice-cream flavour down to the ingredient origin and encouraging us to try every flavour while we contemplated our final decision (even with a queue behind us reaching out of the door). As we were on holiday we decided to go all out and get the deluxe cups/cones which effectively double the price to total approximately $50 for the two of us. Definitely well worth it for a one off experience! The taste is out of this world and the presentation spectacular. A must try for everyone visiting Auckland on a hot day.

As we are approaching the season of summer, I believe Giapo is a 'must visit' spot for all ice cream lovers out there! Indeed the prices are quite steep, nonetheless you get what you pay for - which is quality ice cream 😊 I cannot fairly state my favourite flavour as I have only been here twice.... However, I can vouch that the Christchurch hazelnut is really good! (NZ oriented names, how cute?!)<br/><br/>I can't wait to try out the afghan flavour (I literally eat afghan cookies all day, not even joking) super excited!
A_2d_k
Had Giapo Bueno and Christchurch Hazelnut. Gelato was really good. Toppings were very creative and tasted very good. Was not overly sweet. Service was great. Our gelato expert (Maya) took the time to explain the flavours and service was excellent.

It may take some time to read the two hundred plus reviews on giapo ...but it only took us a few minutes to demolish this yummy morsel..(see photo)..the only other problem here is which flavors to get??..but problem solved..the friendly staff willing to give you samples of different flavors to try so you can pick your favourite..but they all nice!!! With some flavors out of left field and probably unique to this place....

Took a break from Diwali Festival and tried Tiramisu and double flavour of peanut slab & macadamia and avocado flavour. LOVED THE avocado ice cream, it's unique combo is perfect and beautifully decorated!

Without fail, a queue of people is consistently lined up in front of Giapo at any time of the day but Giapo does make this experience a comfortable one by occasionally offering you a small brownie piece and glasses of water. This parlour differs from others as you cant actually see the ice creams themselves, but only the flavours written on a black board. This means they WANT you to sample the flavours in order to decide to give you the full taste effect which I thought was pretty cool :D<br/><br/>However, I think giapo is slightly overhyped and extremely pricey ( $10 for one scoop in a cone, yikes). The flavours do accomodate for various people tho e.g. they have several vegan options such as Raglan coconut yogurt or peanut slab. After tasting each flavour, I decided my favourite was the Christchurch Hazelnut and also the Nelson apple one. These were served in yum cones that were coated in chocolate inside ( didnt match the apple flavour but im not complaining); the apple ice cream had sickly sweet apple slices on top tho which I thought they could have gotten rid of<br/><br/>Overall, a fun and different experience if you're willing to fork out the $$$, but would probably go to another place such as Movenpick or iStorm for my regular ice cream fix.

Amazing place for gourmet icecream!! You choose your icecream flavour and then the staff decorate it for you and it becomes a dessert masterpiece! Not really a shop to sit & eat as there are limited seats however a very cute date pitstop! Very good customer service & icecream!

Lived up to the hype! Would recommend the Christchurch hazelnut and Tiramisu for first timers who are undecided and torn on what to get. It is quite pricey but definitely worth every penny.

If you crave really good ice cream, Giapo is the place to go. This place provides the best ice cream you can ever get. Their ice creams are made fresh everyday and their toppings are also very creative and awesome. They usually invent new flavours now and then, usually depends on what is going around the world as well. They also offer free tastings and they have creative cups and cones but for a very high price.

Finally, after years of drooling over so many pictures on Instagram, I went to Giapo! It was about time! We came here after dinner one night, and it was so busy! There was even a queue outside, and it had to be controlled by red ropes! While we were waiting in line, we were offered water, and even some tasters of brownie!! I was dying to get inside. The sweet smell of this place was wofting oustide! Watching people walk out with their ice creams, made me drool! They all looked amazing! <br/><br/>Finally when we got in I tried to squeeze myself through so that I could read their menu. There were so many funny and unusual names that I had no idea as to what they were. And of course Giapo are known for choosing their ice creams based on flavour and not taste, so we couldn’t see into their cabinet. But this means you can have as many taste testers as you like!! If you’re like me (really indecisive) then you’d be trying more than 2 flavours. I almost wanted to try all of them, but I couldn’t hold up the line. After a few too many testers, I found it really hard to make up my mind. The more I tried, the harder it was for me to choose!! I wanted them all! My mum and brother had already made up their mind. They had the Christchurch hazelnut and afghan. I asked the lady who served us what she recommends and whats the most popular. That usually helps me make a decision. She told me that the giapo bueno (such a strange name) is very popular, so I went with that. But of course I couldn’t just have one flavour, so I also had the Christchurch hazelnut one. I had two scoops in a cup. <br/><br/>Each flavour is decorated in a certain way. However, I had no idea what mine was going to look like because I got two flavours. After we ordered we stood back while we waited. I was watching people make them, and trying to guess which one was mine. <br/><br/>My mum and brother got theirs first. They looked spectacular!! Finally mine came, and I was jumping for joy!! I had been waiting so long to try it!. As soon as we got our ice creams we went outside, because it was so crowded inside. <br/>We sat on the seats outside, and there was still a big queue. I didn’t want to eat my ice cream because it just looked too good! But my first spoonful was pure heaven! The textures and flavours of the toppings with the ice cream was divine. People in the queue were looking at our ice creams, and wondering what flavours we had. I felt a bit awkward, but that’s what I did haha! <br/><br/>Overall it was a great experience. They certainly didn’t let me down with their presentation. I found I enjoyed Giapo more for the experience than the ice cream, but it was still delicious! They are a bit pricey, especially for their deluxe cones, so I just stuck with 2 flavour in a cup for $8.50. Giapo are always changing their flavours, but they also keep their most popular! Theres so many flavours that I have yet to try! Luckily I got a voucher for here so I can…and maybe even get a deluxe cone!

best customer service nice friendly staff and best ice-cream ever!! totally would love to come back this prices are a bit high than usual but totally worth it

This place is the best. When it comes to gelato there is no equal. Made fresh every day from the very best ingredients available. Made with passion and pride. Amazing flavour combinations sculpted into works of art. <br/><br/>This place will ruin you for all other ice cream, it is without a doubt the best!

Giapo is to Auckland what Honeydukes is to Hogsmeade - watching a gelato masterpiece being conjured in front of my very eyes is a mesmerising and marvellous experience like no other gelateria I have visited! What makes it so unique is both the artistic flair that each cone exudes, and more obscurely, the way in which the store has been designed so that the icecream is tucked away in the cabinet, away from prying eyes; it's almost reminiscent of a lucky dip (but with delicious tasters). The cleverly raised counter makes me feel like a child again, craning my neck hungrily to catch a glimpse of my saccharine treat.<br/><br/>In terms of service, staff have been most polite and conversational each time I've visited. They're always pleasant, even when I want to try four flavours and the line is snaking out the door. Some may complain about the line of tourists spilling out onto Queen Street, but I quite enjoy standing in line and hearing all the different accents, observing who chose what, and watching people take Instagrams of their cones in front of the little fake bushes out the front. There is a wait, but it's a pleasant one.<br/><br/>Most importantly, I love how Giapo take such care and pride in both their creations and the sources of the ingredients - their use of organic and local produce make me happy! As a vegan, I do appreciate their gorgeous flavours - too often I have had to resort to lemon or raspberry sorbets in various gelaterias, but here the choice is ample. My personal favourite is the Raglan Coconut Yoghurt sorbet, topped with seasonal fruit compote (I've had both quince and persimmon), and chewy kettle corn. Giapo is a treat for both the stomach and the mind - indulge thrice weekly for best effects.<br/><br/>Food: 5/5<br/>Service: 4.5/5<br/>Value: 4.5/5

I wonder if this is just nostalgia speaking, but each time I have visited Giapo recently I've found myself wishing for the old Giapo to return instead. <br/><br/>The first time I walked into Giapo more than two years ago, I was enthralled. The sight of the beautiful trays of gelato just waiting to be picked was a huge part of the experience for me. I respect that the chef feels people should pick based on taste instead of sight, hence hiding the gelato behind the counter - but that doesn't always work if you visit during peak hours because a long line starts to form behind you and you feel guilty about trying more than two flavors. The names aren't always very descriptive of the flavor either (what's a a siamu popo?) so unless you try everything with 30 people waiting behind you, you might end up excluding a flavor that you might otherwise have really enjoyed. <br/><br/>Also the price has gone up by more than 1.5x in a few years. I have heard that this is due to the landlord who owns the shops around that area increasing the rent to ridiculous proportions though, so it isn't really Giapo's fault. But I am sure that if they set up a branch in the suburbs many of us would be happy to follow them there. <br/><br/>All that being said, it's still a good dessert place if you feel like splurging. We brought some friends from out of the city here recently and they enjoyed themselves very much. I think their gelato still tastes pretty good, although my favorite flavor (matcha) doesn't seem to be making a comeback.

Undoubtedly the most coveted ice-cream in Auckland, Giapo is THEE place to go for a ‘treat yourself’ kind of dessert. The staff are passionate about their food and very gracious about giving out samples to try. There’s no doubt that whichever flavour you pick, the ice-cream will be top notch; creamy, smooth, full of multidimensional flavours and topped off with a little something special. <br/><br/>I’ve tried many of their flavours during my many visits, and love their chocolatey one the best. My all time favourite (I'm not sure if they still do it) is the Colin-offee, which was a banoffee flavour that was seriously the best. One scope from here is enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, but sometimes it’s too hard to pick just one flavour!

I love love love this place. Have been many times since they first opened and it has only gotten better!<br/>Auckland really needs more places like this. Giapo have really set the bar high. I will never judge gelato the same, after my experiences here my expectations are higher.<br/>My favourite flavour is the Giapo Bueno and when they have the pistachio. I do try something new every time.

Literally one of the BEST icecream i have ever had!!! Even though the wait can be a bit long but its definitely worth it! <br/>We were offered to sample as many flavours as we want to make up our mind and all the flavours am were pretty amazing. Ended up getting afghan cookie and tiramisu!! <br/>Afghan cookie - icecream was not overpoweringly sweet and with lots of cookie chunks folded in!!!<br/>Tiramisu - so smooth n velvety with lady finger chunks!<br/>The decoration was like a piece of art!!<br/>We got the hand made 'gold' cone with silvered almonds and chocolate - a bit expensive but its so nice n crunchy! The nutty cone goes so well with the icecream! The topping was corn flakes with caramel sauce with a massive cookie on top!! <br/>(Ps. Can be a bit messy to eat though!)

This place is a tourist attracting. I can't deny they offer one of the best gelatos I've tried. They are creative and and they keep coming up with unusual flavours that seem to work.<br/><br/>I've been going to this place for a long time and I remember it being so simple back then. It's still in the same small place but it has grown so much. Now you can't see the gelato and you can only choose from the options in the black board. Thankfully, the staff are nice and accommodating and they will explain each and everyone. This is also a downfall because a customer can take forever just choosing which flavour to get.<br/><br/>Our recent trip took more than 15mins even though there was only 2 people in front of us. The 2 people in front decided to take all the time in the world choosing each flavour and the staff answered all their questions with a smile and let them try each one. However, it wasn't a pleasant wait for the rest of us. When it was finally our turn, the staff was apologetic and were amazing. They were also giving out free hot chocolate when we were in queue.<br/><br/>We got a double scoop in a cup. The cup is quite small but they do pack it in and the topping was ridiculous. Ours had a meringue and it was torched too. It was great but I think it can be too much. You can also go crazy and get the incredibly expensive cones. I have no doubt those cones would taste great but I won't be forking out almost $20 on the cones and gelato any time soon.

Amazing place for delicious ice creams. <br/>I love it... Would definitely suggest to give it a try. It's worth.<br/>Though this place is always busy staff was energetic.. Overall was fantastic experience.

Giapo... WOW! This place is next level... definitely set aside at least half an hour to go in and enjoy the experience. It's so much more than just ice cream! Staff we're lovely and all round i thoroughly enjoyed my experience Will definitely be going back! @Sarah Forsyth #g8

The staff are friendly because it's our first time there they explained to us how they will make the garnish for the ice cream and they let us tasted all the flavor so we can select the what we want, while explaining what it is made of. the garnish is cute although some makes it too sweet but over all we like it.
LuciferTSN
One of my favorite places on earth, always busy and full of people. Wowed by the efforts that they put in to decorate ice creams. Loved the tiramisu flavor. Every time it never failed me.
Ana Em VP
Honestly best icecream! Flavours that seem a bit weird are perfectly executed! I tried avocado today. The girls are super friendly and prepare the ice creams with so much attention to detail. It's a must!
Simone Halstead
I honestly can not rave about this place enough! The whole concept is simply amazing. No matter how many flavours I try I still keep going for the chocolate evolution it is a chocolate lovers dream.

Giapo is simply an Auckland institution. Famous for it's delicious Gelato and in addition the wonderfully designed little frozen masterpieces. But what was originally typical Italian-style passionate staff members having a chat with you and recommending food choices has now gotten a bit much, with a sales pitch that is not particularly necessary (we're in the long line for gelato, it's safe to say we're going to buy some). Or after giving out a free sample, giving us a painfully long rendition of an organic this and that just for an afghan biscuit. Overall, wonderful gelato, wonderful passionate service (just getting a little bit much).

Very nice ice cream place in the CBD. It is a very small place; busy and crowded. Unique selling method, wherein ice creams are placed behind the counter, away from public view. Will go again in future.
Kiran Kanchan
Visiting this place for the last three years plus... One of the best gelatos in town... Consistency and innovative... Tiramisu is the best though..
Zoe Huang
Their ice creams are creative. Their staff will decorate the ice cream for you. It's not just about eating ice cream . It's a experience of watching them decorating ice creams~
Lily
Very nice ice cream. Patient and helpful staff. It had a long line, but s man was offering flakes and water to waiting people, which was so nice. The lady will explain everything, and will give you testers of ice creams. I had hazelnut flavour with chocolate topping. It also had a cone shaped chocolate with hazelnut onsite on top of the topping! I loved it, but the chocolate topping was too sweet for a person on a diet. So if you are cheating ur diet to go here, skip that topping. I will go there again. There are few seats inside, and 6 benches outside to sit down. And also a park nearby for enjoying your ice cream.

Giapo is a must do when in auckland! You can tell its a well heard of place amd almost like a tourist attraction! The que is constantly big! I went on a rainy day and it was still just as long as it would be on a sunny day! Its worth the wait as the ice cream/gelato is delicious!!! And the whole experience bar for the wait is cool aswell! They have all the flavours hidden away and encourage you to try them all before making your decision. Its a good thing as it changed my mind on what i originally thoight i was going to get. The toppings they put on top is pretty cool aswell and fun to watch! Mine got blowtorched which was something i hadnt seen before! Only thing that lets it down is the price as i think its pretty expensive but movenpick prices are not much different either. I would still come here again if friends wanted to go or someone i had over visiting as its worth the experience.

Having tried gelato in many parts of the world. Giapo really is my favorite. I haven't found any in Italy that is up to their standard. Taste and service is second to none. The cue outside the store throughout the week is a testament to itself. Definitely a great spot to take your date. If you are a tourist I would highly recommend you give it a go.

Everytime I walk past this place there's always a huge crowd. Decided to try and yes the way the staff make those Gelatos is an art. We tried few different flavors and finally decided on one. Not sure I will come back. <br/>I always thought am a big ice cream lover. Realised not a huge Gelato fan. <br/>Gelato lovers get in there. That's your heaven.

Made a rookie mistake and forgot to leave room for dessert, so it was a struggle to finish this delectable concoction. An avocado ice cream in a cone dipped in white chocolate adorned with dark chocolate macadamias sprinkled with what I think was dahl. Another mad mix that worked well from the Wizard known as Giapo. Suggest you share this one with a friend or come here fasted.

Loved my ice cream..... we went there after a show at the civic on saturday..... could not believe the line that was behind us.... but will definately go there again.... ☺
Ines
Will never be tired to stop by and get amazing ice creams from that place. Considering the quality of their delicious ice cream the price is really not high. They have many flavors and some specials from time to time, quite an incentive to go back and check that out. The giapo buono is obviously succulent but the Christchurch hazelnut deserves to be known just as much as the tiramisu.. you'd have understood this is the place to stop everytime you're cruising down Queen St. !
FoodieOodie95
Just recently went back in here after mooonths! A lotta changes including the new range of flavours, although its still on the pricey end, their gelato is to die for !! Also the effort they put into each n every topping on their orders is amazinggg. My new personal fave is the Giapo Buono oh and Christchurch Hazelnut ❤❤
Lara Custance
There is just no place like Giapo. The craft, creativity and focus on experience is second to none in the category. Giapo contributes to the new standard of excellence in Auckland's fast causal dining. Love your work!
Vincent Warner
Always busy. Always good. A tonne of varieties to choose from a really nice way to cap off a date night with the lady or enjoy a summer stroll down queen street.
Mari Flores
I always heard a lot of my friends talking about Giapo so I decided to try it one day. Although I couldn't see what the ice cream looked like the staff was willing enough to help me taste the different ice creams  they had. <br/><br/>The ice cream they had was delicious and I was given the best service. Giapo is my go to Ice cream stop.
Michaela Da Silva
Fantastic place! Amazing ice cream, I loved being able to test each flavour based just on taste and not appearance. Presentation of my picked choice was WOW. I would just recommend tables outside. I got 2 scoops and found it difficult to eat without messing on my lap! Such good value for money and soooo tasty!
Miara
They don't serve gelato, but the serve a fantasy along with gelato. Never been to any such place in my life a dream land of gelato. Pretty ladies serving you samples of chocolate coated waffles to please you while you are waiting for ur dream ice-cream . Other feature that makes giapo different from of other gelato parlour is it along asks u to select name of ur flavour but you cant see ur gelato until to get it. This way we don't reject the flavour by it appearance. It seems the believe appearance at times deceives. Worth trying. But in not that happy with taste as it too sweet for me. But would like to go definately go to this fantasy world of gelato.
Rebecca
Such a lovely experience to come here. From the perfect ice cream right down to the amazing customer service, Giapo is a must visit dessert place! Although a bit expensive, it is definitely worth your money for the amount they give you and the quality of the ice cream, and it tastes amazing!
Lenka Veza
I absolutely love giapo! Quality ice cream that is to die for. The presentation with the toppings on every ice cream they make is so good and tastes even better. Was full of people when I went, now I know why. Definitely going back.
Samantha
This ice cream is next level. Nothing like I've ever tasted before. Amazing flavours and presentation. I like how you can try multiple flavours before you buy. A little bit pricey but totally worth it!
Nik Sio
Absolute deliciousness!!!! On a serious note this ice cream parlor is outstanding for their unique complimenting flavours on offer, had the dense triple chocolate and almond cookie with crunchy nuts. Exquisite presentation of food, with testers n complimentary water. Exceptional A+ customer service from kind friendly staff and a clean store. <br/>On a not-so-serious note the girls working there.. daymmmm hotness "(^.^)"
Monique Porteous
Giapo is the place to go for ice cream. Elite is the word that comes to mind when I think of Giapo. The flavors are ever changing which is quite cool. The price point isn't exactly cheap but I think the $7 for a cup or $9 for a cone is worth it for possibly the freshest ice cream in the country. The added bonus is that you get specialized toppings depending on what flavor you got! A must eat if in Auckland
Laura Ransome
Holy mother, put this place on your bucket list people cause it's as close to perfection as its gonna get. The service is out of this world, free samples, generous smiles, waiting there with glasses of water after for u after all the hard work trying to pick which amazing flavour you want. This place gets me so excited. They decorate the icecream based which flavour is on top and you walk out with an impressive looking icecream. Well done giapo I wish you opened more places closer to where I live
Sarah Watson
Really don't get what all the fuss is about. It's nice but $7 for a cup isn't worth it, the cups are small and they pile the ice cream over the rim of the cup so you either have to eat it quickly or have it melt on your hands. The people that work there are lovely however.
Tanz
Everytime I walk pass this place, it's always super busy!! but today (Sat around 1pm) there was no line so I gave it a try ;)<br/><br/>The service was awesome! the girls were super super friendly and gave us many samples that we had to tell them to stop haha. We ended up having the most popular flavor  that recommended by a lovely staff. I can't remember what it called. The ice cream is pretty sweet itself, added up with beautiful topping made it too sweet for my taste. <br/><br/>Overall I like the place, the vibe, good ice cream and awesome service!
Maria Foy
Love love love this place. The gilato is amazing and they are always coming up with new and amazing flavors. My only gripe is that it is in town haha 😂
Alanna Chloe Grossman
Absolute BEST gelato I have ever had! And that is even comparing gelato I've had before I became vegan! I can't believe they can make vegan flavor taste so delicious. Highly, highly recommended
Sarah S
Visited tonight, was a bit of a queue out the door but defo worth the wait, the staff are lovely & let you try flavours & tell you about them which is awesome considering the price you are paying. I had the banana chocolate cake which was amazing! Only let down was the orders didn't seem to quite follow an order but didn't mind waiting. Awesome how they bring you water & napkins while enjoying your ice cream to. Would defo recommend

BEST ICE CREAM EVER. Tonight's decision to get ice cream after a work event was the best decision of my life. The line was out the door though! Waited about fifteen minutes but it was so worth it. They don't even mind if you try a lot of the icecream flavours either so you can actually choose a flavour you will like! <br/><br/>I have been here before and the icecream flavours are so good! Extra kudos because they do not just one but a few vegan options. Erica was able to choose from the vegan options and she ended up going with coconut yoghurt (which came with popcorn on it!!!) and peanut slab. <br/><br/>I got the giapo buenos which came topped with meringue (which they toasted with a blow torch!!!) and nuts. This was delicious! I also got hokey pokey which came with a chocolate shell on top with hokey pokey bits! I tried some of this and it was so good. My belly is so satisfied right now. <br/><br/>The service was so good as well! We were given samples to try when we were waiting in line — Italian hot chocolate and chocolate wafer cones! A waitress also walked around with water and napkins. <br/><br/>Giapo is a must try! Can't wait to come back :-)<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds #challenge
Ryan
Quality ice cream, very indulgent and rich. Always busy so come here expecting a bit of a wait. Lots of classic flavours like hokey pokey as well as some more unusual ones.<br/><br/>Nice to grab a cone after dinner nearby. It is on the pricier side and limited seating outside the store, so Giapos has become an occasional treat.
Paris
Giapo is amazing!! But make sure you head here early to not be disappointed when flavours sell out! Giapo Bono is served uber pretty with toasted meringue an hazelnuts! An the tiramisu flavour also a treat along with pretty much anything else! They will allow you to try anything you want also as their philosophy is that you decide by taste not sight there they have all their ice creams behind tinted glass but they make up for it by serving it so inquisitively decorated that it makes up for it.
Laura Caddick
Truly the best Ice cream place in town along with being the most delicious ice cream I have ever tasted and constantly always make the effort to visit when I'm in the city. The staff are great and always welcoming and very helpful (as I'm terrible at making a choice on what to get) I love it how there is always new flavours and creations to try with the classic favourites such as the Christchurch hazelnut still on the menu to pick from. A must try if you have never had the chance to visit! <br/>
Anna Harding
Hands down the best ice cream place around! It's a tourist attraction in its own right. Every ice cream has been artfully created to be so beautiful that the picture of it deserves to be framed. So many creative flavors to choose from and plenty of chance to sample beforehand so you will never leave disappointed! Highly recommend. Not cheap but worth the treat.
Emily Pavey
Finally got round to trying Giapo and understand why there's always a queue! Amazing - despite being busy, service was amazing and the staff encourage you to try the flavours and take your time choosing. Great selection of flavours and once your order, they work their magic and coat with all kinds of incredible treats. So impressive! You can't see the gelato until the finished product is presented to you, really feels like a magical experience! Options of amazing chocolate cones but just went for a cup this time. The great service continued whilst we sat and ate (offered water, friendly conversation etc). Fairly pricey but worth every penny.
Victoria
The best ice cream and brilliant service! Honestly the best indulgence, my only complaint is it's often busy so you may have to wait a little to get your fix. For a real treat try the luxury cones.<br/><br/>
Kevin Yong
The lively engaging and customer focused  staff member  of Giapo we were so fortunate to meet at the Gelateria - and she is from Sicily.  Photo credit - Ms S K Teoh. Welcoming, wonderful and wow in flavours and presentation!  As someone remarked, "When you have a Giapo ice cream, you just won't know where to start!".
Fanta
Best gelato ever. I had the Giapo Buono which the person working there recommended and it definitely lived up to its expectation. They decorate each serving with different food "accessories" so it makes the experience so much enjoyable and unique. It's nice they also give you a generous serving to satisfy that sweet tooth. To say the least, I've never had ice-cream/gelato that had so much detail and attention put into it. The people behind the counter are so friendly and let you try the different flavours you're interested in before committing to the full size serving. Very top notch dessert and service. Convenient location too.
Kristi Tansilia
The best gelato place ever! Was close to my school, so hihihihi yeah when i'm feeling down and blue........ Giapo's gonna help me through :D
Eduardo Dias
This is one of the most famous ice cream on the city. The ice creams here are in general very rich in flavour and really fancy. The service is really good as well but the place is very small and very busy all the time.
Jaya
Whenever I have a gelato craving, I go to Giapo because my gelato tastes evolved and currently involve artsy styling (as taught by them). Nothing comes close to the art that they make everyday. Chefs are always bubbly and cheery which is a great complement to their creations. Perfecto!
Pamela Chia
Absolutely wonderful! A tad pricey but perfect for deserts to share. Love the unique flavours and presentation that they put into their gelato 👍🏼
Dessert Lover
Giapo defiantly has NEw Zealand's best gelato was a regular back in my Uni days when the shop was purple, but I make the occasional visit whenever in town. Staff are always friendly and happy to help. But the jump in price is a tad excessive in my opinion which is why it doesn't get the perfect 5 from me
Tian Tian Zhang
My first experience there was wonderful! Although there was a massive queue on the Friday night, a staff kept coming to offer us water and samples, making the wait bearable. There were so many interesting flavours, I had to take 5 minutes to make up my mind. The staff were patient and friendly. I really enjoyed the Afghan cookie flavour. My friend really liked my other flavour which was the Aoteroa Garden, but the taste of beetroot in ice cream was a bit weird for me. I really liked the complementary coating of cereal and caramel and afghan cookie on top of the ice cream, though it did dry hard and got a bit hard to eat at the end. <br/>All in all a very enjoyable experience! Definitely would recommend.
Andrew @anjeats
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Yes, my friends were correct. The gelato here is the best! I've eaten gelato in Italy and Giapo's is truly on par. The actual cafe is small and full of character (much like the neighbouring Civic building) and I love how the gelato is covered from view. The idea of relying on name descriptions made it all the more enticing! <br/><br/>FOOD: I had a scoop of Christchurch Hazelnut and Giapo Buono (their signature flavour) and both were creamy and packed with flavour and a velvety texture. The extra treats on top of the gelato were a welcome bonus - in particular the small pieces of hokey pokey. <br/><br/>SERVICE: Fabulous. The counter staff were energetic and engaging and sported delightful European accents. The wait staff popped over with small cups of water and serviettes. Couldn't ask for better service! <br/><br/>This is definitely a must see place if you're ever in the city. It does veer on the pricey side but the gelato and accompanying service make it all the more worth it.

What a fantastic way to end dinner, We shared 2 cups, cup 1 had Afghan cookies and Hokey Pokey and our 2nd cup had Christchurch Hazelnut and Giapo Buono. all 4 flavours were beautiful and I look forward to trying the Siamu Popo (Samoan Coconut). I'm not a big fan of cold desserts, but Giapo's gelato is believably delicious.
Tash Rawlinson
The gelato in Italy has nothing on Giapo! From their kiwi inspired creations to the classic Ol' hokey pokey, I have never had such an incredible ice cream experience in my life! The only downside it's a little pricey but you definitely pay for quality!
Andrea Hrisenkova
Oh my god! Giapo is not only the best ice-cream in Auckland but the best ice-cream i have ever had! Get the giapo buono flavor you won't it. The ice-cream even looks awesome. They also have gluten-free cones! There are vegan and diary-free options. The staff us really nice, they let you try each flavour. If you're in Auckland this place is not to be missed. Best ice-cream shop eveer!
Jess Pendergrast
I have visited Giapo quite a few times over the past few years and it’s definitely turned into another whole experience lately. As you enter the store you are greeted by the lovely staff and the incredible aromas. <br/><br/>They are really creative and always give away lots of samples so you know that you will be buying a flavour that you love. The gelato is really indulgent and the toppings make it that extra special.<br/><br/> The prices are slightly high but if you are looking for an overall gelato experience rather than just buying an icecream from your local store then it’s worth it. It’s some of the best gelato I have ever tasted!
Brenda Phu
Giapo has a buoyant and luxurious ambience.<br/>The store itself engulfs you in black and gold; an the theatrics of the gelato being made at the front the shop.<br/>I love coming here when I'm in town, just being of the atmosphere. I had a cone whilst my friends had a variety of cups. They have a great assortment of innovative flavours. <br/>But overall, I think that Giapo is overrated. The gelato is pretty to look at but the taste doesn't make up for the quantity or even the quality. It's definitely a high end place with average portions and excessive prices. More than not I think you pay mostly for the location and the hype of eating at "Giapo".

Good experience, had fun . Was amazing.. Will return back. Environment was very good . Love the friendly staff .. Sometimes too sweet is too good.
Nicole Mae Flores
A great gelato/ice creams that are made with details in mind. The staff are welcoming and the brownies which they give to you when u are lining up is delicious. the place seems way too small to fit those who wants to eat there but the place looks really compact but quite effective. The gelatos were quite pricey but totally worth it. They assemble it with so much care and a arge amount of attention to detail. I recommend the Tiramisu if it is available (it's amazing).

Welcoming, wonderful and wow in flavours and presentation!  As someone remarked, "When you have a Giapo ice cream, you just won't know where to start!".<br/><br/>The cones can be bigger than what you normally get at most other ice cream parlours, but this rather unique place comes alive with a great selection of ice creams and gelato.  Each flavour and combination in Giapo comes with beautifully described names.  I had the Christchurch Hazelnut, my fellow gelato cult members chose two with Avocado and another one with an Italian twist.  <br/>Still all very New Zealand.  Giapo also has flavours inspired from the South Pacific neighbours and of course, the iconic Hokey Pokey.  You can have your gelato and ice cream in cups as well but the waffle cones are such quality even if eaten   without the gelato, sorbet or ice cream.  I can still recall flavours like Yogurt with Goji Berry and the Organic Winter Sangria Sorbet - and they can change every day at this store.<br/><br/>Check out the Aotearoa Garden, hey are they leaves freshly plucked from a  garden on the top?  I just adored my solid chocolate cone placed solidly on my serving - and they even give you a helpful little spoon with your cone.<br/><br/>Giapo delights are not overly rich but full of flavour, with interesting combinations and nuances that tease the senses.  Colour, shape, how it all looks count here, as well as the inherent taste. And then wait for the toppings!  These are generous encrusted top-of-the-cake literally over the top bonuses.  Such pluses counter against the higher prices charged and I reckon you get value in return.<br/><br/>Service is fast and I was amazed by the efforts the staff go to decorate the tops of the already delicious offerings.  With a smile, the lovely two female staff (one from Sicily)  take us through their extensive menu.  Children and the elderly would be captivated - anyone is!  They even offer drinking water when customers sit down, watching the goings on along Queen Street.  The bus stops right infant of Giapo, go for this!  I would take ice cream in the Kiwi winter at Giapo's - don't even think of summer yet.

I'm a huge gelato fan - arguably, I've had some of the best in the world. For me the gelato trade comes to a point where all good gelato-masters are able to achieve the smooth, creamy and delectable texture of the desserts. What brings them to the next level however, is their creativity with new and interest flavours to keep it's patrons happy. Giapo is a gelato maker by trade, and it shows. Flavours are well pronounced, and leave you thinking you may never have it again - which is why many return to this little joint on Queen St, and why it's one of the jewels of Auckland.
FOODFANATICJIMMY
This place is pretty much impossible to miss if you're a regular to Auckland CBD. One of the 'must visit' locations in Auckland and for good reasons. Although $8.5 for an ice cream cone may sound slightly expensive, Id say it's worth it. The service was actually very good aswell with the ladies offering free samples. I was also impressed by the birthday songs that were sung to celebrate customers' birthdays. I liked ALL the flavours there and with each one with different designs, its also pleasing to the eye. The only kind of let down would be the waiting time. Had to wait 15-20 minutes for the ice cream. They could improve by offering samples while waiting in line or by handing out menus while in line as this will definately save customers' time when ordering. Give this one a go!
Georgia Dobbs
Giapo presents a unique array of delectable flavours in the form of velvety, creamy ice creams and sorbets. Each comes intricately decorated with a specialised topping including the likes of toasted italian meringue, gold dust covered hazelnuts, and chocolate ganache. Christchurch Hazelnut, Tiramisu and Chocolate Evolution are definately recommended!

Visited a week ago, was a large line at the door however my partner and I were given samples of hot chocolate to try while waiting. We were offered samples of various flavours and both ended up getting 2 scoops in a cup. I can't remember the particular flavours we had however both tasted amazing. Couldn't finish either of them. Will definitely be back, great service and food.

I got some fabulous ice cream tonight ! Yeah :) both are common cups of Giapo buono the most delicious flavor ! They're worth to try once on my lifetime in Auckland lol although you have to stand in a lone line, HOLD ON and don't miss it !

My second time at Giapo, but at a different location. Service was just as good. The style of running was still the same - queued to be individually serviced; tried out different flavours before placing an order. It was even better now - while we were in the queue, some complimentary chocolates were offered; after placing the order & while waiting, a complimentary shot of hot chocolate was offered. (Food - 5/5; service - 5/5)<br/>Visited on 30 April 2018.<br/>_____  <br/><br/>I've heard a lot about how good Giapo's desserts are but never had a chance to pay a visit until today. Parking is indeed the biggest problem visiting CBD. <br/><br/>I was there at about 11:30 but it wasn't opened until 12:00. I strolled up and down Queen Street window-shopping and returned to Giapo which opened no earlier than 12. Each day there were about 10 different flavours available to choose from and I was offered a trial before choosing my favourite flavours. I made my choice and moved aside to avoid blocking the queue. I watched how our ice-creams were combined, which took only about a few minutes. There were stools & benches inside and outside Giapo where one can enjoy the ice-creams comfortably. I was kindly offered water by the kind lady who made my treats. Giapo is definitely worth a try.  (Food - 4.5/5; Service - 5/5)<br/>Visited on 19 June 2015

Unfortunately the awesomeness that is the ice cream is let down by the poor poor extremely poor customer service. Such a shame. The ice cream is outstanding but not good enough to make up for the Customer Service. I won't be back.

Sometimes you pick up your Giapo ice cream and you just don't know where to start!<br/>There are a few things that always need to be known for all ye travellers to Central Auckland who pass by Giapo, or have heard of Giapo and are curious about it. First of all, it's the kind of place you have to visit at least once, simply for the sake of the experience, let alone the ice cream. The line is often long, and the staff, who are as jolly as the confectionary shopkeeper in the Willy Wonka film - well, not quite, but you get an idea. They are very friendly, they do their best to welcome you, they're very communicative and will provide you with plenty of information about the products. Three other things they will provide you with are cups of water; handwash and wipes, as it can be difficult to eat at Giapo without becoming thirsty and sticky fingered. Their ice creams take decadence to a whole new level. They are more like cakes than ice cream, so if it's a hot day and you just want a plain old jelly tip or vanilla to cool you down, you might as well just buy some ice cream from the dairy. Giapo is great for a night out in Auckland city, regardless of the weather. <br/><br/>Remember to not be afraid to get plenty of samples before making your decision, and I'd recommend walking around town whilst eating your ice-cream, I do this to get the cool air, which prevents it melting onto my hands which they can do if you don't eat them quick enough - they are very big ice creams. If you're having it in a cup, no worries, but the cone is recommended. It's more like a chocolate biscuit than a cone! Once again, I will use the word 'decadent' to describe it - and I don't mean it in the negative context!

Recommended ice cream parlour in Auckland! Do not leave Auckland before trying the ice cream here. <br/><br/>I came here on my birthday and fortunately the queue was not as long as usual - do not be surprised if you find such a long queue of people buying ice cream here most of the time as Giapo is quite famous.<br/><br/>I tried 'Giapo Buono' and 'Hazelnut' ice cream in cone - they are to die for! Giapo buono for me is like caramel but slightly richer in sweet flavour. Both giapo buono and hazelnut were not too sweet but still yummy, such an amazing taste. My friend tried chocolate banana ice cream, it was soo good since I could taste the rich dark chocolate in it.<br/><br/>The price is quite high but it is worth to spend as the quality and taste of the ice cream are premium. Also, the portion is quite big, so one cone of ice cream is basically so satisfying for one person.<br/><br/>The staffs here are nice and friendly - and if you are lucky enough, you can get the owner to serve your order. It did not take a long time to get your order done, considering the staffs have to decorate your ice cream - the ice cream is not as 'plain' as regular gelato! <br/><br/>I will always look forward to come here again to try different flavours - my target is green tea ice cream (which unfortunately was not sold when I came there). Come here and enjoy the real pleasure at eating ice cream!

Was slightly on the more expensive side in my opinion, but definitely worth it! Very busy when we went there in the afternoon but overall very good service! Will definitely be going again soon :)

Absolutely the best gelato in auckaland. I go there whenevr I see no crowd (line) outside which is very rare. Even in peak winter people/tourists go here. Staff and service is the best. There was one instance when there was nobody at the shop (not a single customer) and sweet giapo girls made us try all the favours (each and every) with stories and their favourites. I am always happy to go here no matter which day and what time. 5 stars for the extra mile they go to decorate your ice cream. defeineitely ges a twinkle of the eyes.
Aisling Ní Dhochartaigh
Their deserts look like works of art...who thought ice cream could look so good! Taste wise very sweet and over the top. Quite pricey though for what is essentially just ice cream.

I love Gelato and now Giapo! This place lives up to its hype! We had to wait in line for about 25 minutes but it was worth the wait. If you're in the area & have time to spare definitely check this place out!
Melissa Chai
By far my favourite ice cream place in New Zealand! It is a bit on the pricey side by completely worth it! The downside is I find myself craving giapo all the time and my bank account unfortunately is screaming no at the moment! If I ever hear one of my friends hasn't tried this place I take them immediately even if we have to wait in line for hour and be late to work! The aroma is also amazing!

I'm a huge gelato person, so when my friend said he'd take me to Giapo while I was in Auckland I was totally keen. Did not disappoint! Yes, it's a bit pricey, but frankly, I was having the time of my life eating that gelato so I'd say it was worth it. The flavours are all super unique and I'd say there's something for everyone. My chocolate explosion and Samoan caramel were to die for, and I love that they go the extra mile with amazing toppings. We must have gone at the right time because there were no lines. All in all, awesome gelato experience, will definitely go again next time I'm up north!

This gelato parlour is out of this world! Through my many travels, i have never been to an ice cream parlour this interesting. The staff are exceedingly skilled in the ways of preparing the said ice cream dish and great with people too! catered with a tiny interior mainly to showcase the likes of the dessert parlour, there are available seats outside for patrons to partake in their dessert. Delicious as it, the parlour is well known to locals and tourists alike. Take heed, with tremendous popularity comes a formidable queue, but your patience will be rewarded at Giapo.
Gianina Castro
Worth every dollar. Well, most of the time. I have tried two flavours so far that I didn't like. This made me a bit apprehensive in trying out new flavours. However, the ones that I did like were amazing, so will most likely stick to flavours that I already like.
Cindy Ong
The best gelato I ever have in Auckland! Be prepared for long queue especially during evening, weekend and holiday! <br/>I love their way of presenting the gelato in an very unique way by adding some wet and dry toppings on your gelato and make the gelato even value added to be enjoyed! Although the price per scoop of gelato is almost double the market price, it is worthwhile trying! And guess what you will sure be returned to it!

Giapo is an absolute spectacle the menu reads the flavour of ice cream but while you wait you see these magical looking ice cream treats pass over the counter. <br/><br/>The completed ice cream almost has a willy wonkier like nature to them. It boarders on an event rather than ice cream pick up when you visit. <br/><br/>In rating the end product you get once all is said in done. All the extra bits end up making it hard to finish your ice cream and the amount of thick chocolate detracted from the amazing ice cream. And given the price you pay its abut gutting when it's so rich you can't finish <br/><br/>Go for the show must do it once, unsure if I'd hit it again
Cararmel Queen
Loved Giapo! They really turn your ice cream into a master piece :-P Awesome flavours and so many options to choose from. Felt like an excited little kid waiting for mine to be done!
Hungusmcfatty
Offers a curated ice cream tasting experience.<br/>The selection of ice creams are out of sight to heighten taste and olfactory senses. <br/>The non-dairy ice creams and sorbets are delicious and gluten-free cones are also available. <br/>Patient and well informed staff willingly offer samples, despite lines out the door. <br/>Fresh, inventive flavours each with its own bespoke topping...worth waiting in line for!
Tash
Loved the ice cream here. Rather expensive but so beautiful the mixture of flavours is excellent. I had the dark chocolate which had gold flakes and chocolate with raspberry flavouring in it.
Khoa Le
As far as ice cream goes Giapo is pretty pricey. But if you are willing to flock out the dollars they are really worth it. They offer free samples for all of the ice cream as well.<br/><br/>They also offer free water and chocolate for waiting customers. Bravo for that!
Acuario MI
The BEST ice cream I've ever eat in Auckland! You have to meet this excellent place to take this unique ice cream with fabulous designed cone. A bit pricey but worth it.

If there is ONE place you have to visit when you're in Auckland City... It's GIAPO!!!!! ONE WORD: PERFECTION! Fireworks in my mouth with each spoonful of this gelato made with love. Giapo combines food with art and science creating the most unique experience for icecream lovers all over. There is no way in hell anyone can dislike this beautiful gelato place. The cones are a work of art and each gelato is beautified with little pieces of this and that (SUCH AS BABY MACARONS OMG!!! sprinkles, chocolate, nuts YOU NAME IT)!! <br/><br/>If I could eat anything for the rest of my life it'd be this. <br/><br/>My only complaint is that there is no Giapo store down my road! Giapo.... Can you please open a store on the North Shore?!?!? I'll be forever grateful.
Eva Zhu
Ice cream did taste pretty good but it didn't live up to the raving reviews my friends give it. The queue wasn't too long but I started to grow a little impatient simply because it was taking so long for customers to be served. Presentation and treatment of food however, was delicate and definitely professional
Andi Jandal
My only complaint is Giapo's city location. I don't venture into the CBD very often, so I can't have the delicious treats on offer at Giapo very often. Aside from this (non) complaint, Giapo is really somewhere you need to see for yourself. There's always an air of excitement for those waiting for their creations. And yes, they are most definitely creations, works of art you are almost reluctant to devour. Despite there being no dine-in option the place is always buzzing due to its unrelenting popularity. If you haven't yet been to Giapo, I urge you to do so, you won't regret it.
Elise Tan
Excellent decor and store service! I appreciate the sales assistant's detailed and patient intro! Nice gelato and fab presentation! But authentic gelato is still one step ahead:p
Jeremy Koh
Best gelato I've had, unique flavours and artistic decoration, nothing else compares. Just a little pricey and is often quite packed as it is very small inside.
Don&#039;s Food Fiesta
The peanut slab flavour is my fav!! You have to wait a bit longer when ordering this flavour- this allows the outer chocolate layer to rest so they can brush over a coating of magic gold dust. The wait is definitely worth it. Tastes exactly like a Whittikers peanut slab #YAAAARM
Grace Sifa
best icecreams in auckland!!! if your in town stop here.. park under IMAX and yes your most likely to wait in line for 20 minutes but the wait is worth it.. from about $8 an icecream the treat is well worth it.. last time I went I got the meringue icecream and triple<br/>chocolate with the golden hazelnuts the service is super friendly and the ice cream service stations is closed so only your mouth does all the tasting
Parik Andhare
The long never ending queues in front of this place should have given me a clue there was something special about their ice cream. <br/>Not to exaggerate but it serves one of the best ice creams I have tested ever and I have my reasons for it.<br/>Pros -<br/>1. High quality ice cream - one bite of their ice cream and you know you are having msomething of great quality. Your taste buds realize this is pure milk and cream frozen to perfection with subtle but definitive flavors.<br/>2. Flavors - they have unique names to all their ice creams and they keep changing it everyday. The typical vanilla/ butterscotch/chocolate are not an option but the exotic combinations can be chosen.<br/>3. Toppings - every flavor you buy comes with own different set of Toppings and decorations. <br/>4. Service - their staff is very friendly and would encourage you to try the various flavours before you make your choice.<br/><br/>Cons -<br/>1. For $7 a cup or $9 a cone, it's a but pricey.<br/>2. One scoop on cone is too much for normal people to finish :p suggest two people buy one scoop and share.<br/>Overall a great experience. <br/>Keep it up..!!

What amazing Ice Cream Desert place! If your looking to impress with desert this place could be it for you!<br/><br/>The Service:<br/>Great Service, stood in line for about 10min as lines were outside the door and onto the street. However Staff brought us water and tasting samples as we waited in line. Inside the staff were lovely and helped chose the right type of ice cream that you want. <br/><br/>The food: <br/>Desert was probably one of the best decorated deserts I have eaten in Auckland. The gelato is really rich so I struggled with 2 scoops, next time one scoop will be enough. <br/><br/>The price:<br/>About $7-$11 unless you go for the "roll royce" options of delux cones which can go up to $25 per person. <br/><br/>Overall would recommend to others and is great if your taking someone on an ice cream date ;)
Super(・_・;Phoebe
One word:amazing. As a fan of mocha, the mocha cone brought a snap effect to me and absolutely satisfied my craving for mocha. The gelota makers must have put enormous time and effort into creating innovative and exciting flavours. Their toppings have always been eye-catching as well!Love this tiny macaron and the dazzling pumpkin seed!<br/><br/>I have been their shop three times now. mocha, kiss kiss,Christurch hazlenut…you name it,all the flavours and the combination of toppings taste incredible. Maybe only one advice is to have more choice of fruit. Why not add fresh fruit as toppings or some of the flavours?strawberry、boysenberry、cranberry、bluebery…(almost all the berry family works great with mocha).

No doubt, this is the best ice cream shop. The handmade and well crafted ice cream tastes uniquely delicious. Every time I visit the shop, I am guarantee that I won't be disappointed by the services and products provided. I particularly enjoys the chocolate hazelnut flavour. <br/><br/>I highly recommend people to try it out! The ice cream totally worth the price you pay for.
Foodiesfeast
If you are looking for something out of the ordinary for dessert this is the place to go! Ice creams are chosen by first taste testing which ensures you'll receive something you know you'll enjoy. The ice cream is then transformed into a piece of art. Depending on what icecream you choose they will decorate it with toppings designed by the chef. I ordered the giapo buono and was not dissapointed. It was rolled in fresh biscuit, topped with gold dusted hazel nuts and finished with a meringue cooked with a blow torch. This is beyond the normal ice cream experience and well worth the wait. Price is reasonable also. A must try if you are on Queen street.
Rebecca MacDonald
Giapo is ice cream but in a way you have never seen it before. I am a massive ice cream fan and I love that each one at Giapo is a piece of art. When you get to the counter the flavours are listed but you can't see the ice cream. The staff will give you tasters until you can settle on the flavour you want. Once they start making your ice cream you soon see the end result is so much more than just the ice cream.<br/>I chose the salted caramel flavour and it was covered in a meringue type topping which is then caramelised with hazelnuts.<br/><br/>I can't wait to come back and try the others!
Becca Callaghan
Went to Giapo the first time and the staff were lovely when we were asking about the different flavours also letting us taste a few. I ended up getting the hazelnut icecream, it was so delicious and the presentation was amazing! Although it was pricey I'd highly recommended the experience of Giapo

One word for this ice cream outlet is more than adequate..it is more than amazing.i have never eat this much tasty ice cream..i ate afghans and hokey pokey mix..it was awesome..whenever you are in city just try it at least for once n you ll gonna love it..

Awwwsssomeee!!!!

Amazing!! Suggest you get the chefs degustation as you get 5 of the flavours which are to die for!! There deluxe ice cream wafer cones look delicious
Synne Ng
Absolutely decadent... so good.. This handmade gelato ice cream was worth every calorie, with each flavour very rich and tasty and the staff let me sample a lot of flavours.. I had the Tiramisu and found bits of alcohol infused sponge cake in it! Also had the Matcha one, which was by far one of the best green tea ice cream I had. Go for one of their luxury cones coated with thick chocolate and nuts if you have extra space.. I did!
Chris Fox
Is world renowned for a reason. 10/10 although on the pricier side it is most defiantly worth it. Salted caramel is the best ? would highly recommend as a cheat meal!
Vangirl
Had raspberry and lemon ice cream. Both taste very good and I was wondering about that black seeds around it. <br/>I loved their service because they offered ice cream with smile and stuff offered us water or wet napkins. I will come back when there is no line up :)

Just as beautiful as the presentation :-) I used to be a die-hard fan of their Pistachio ice cream (however, I could probably be considered a die-hard fan of any type of pistachio ice cream) but ever since they stopped selling it, I found myself not visiting as often. Since then, I've had to explore the Giapo menu more and try more of their other flavours and now I have discovered my love for their Giapo Buono and Peanut and Banana prailene ice creams :-) Such a rich taste yet so light and easy to consume ^-^
Monique Liao
I try that few days before with my friend, its lots people there, but the sales also patient to explain their icecream. And will be decorated as nice as you unexpected. Have to try even once...
Littleshadow
Always excited to go to Giapo. Always interested to see the flavors they have there. And how they decorate. The interior is stunning and the staff are professional and polite.
Elakiya Suresh
Been here twice.. worth the wait... A bit expensive but awesome service and their ice creams are just so unique.. the way they decorate the ice creams.. they are experts! <br/>Tourists.. Note this down on your 'must go' list..
Mitali Mohan
Amazing ice creams!!! Never had anything like this before... the presentation ws so good that u just cant resist to eat... i had hokey pokey n chocolate evolution... they wer really good.... i hve heard that they keep changing their menu and add new ice cream every tym... must try.. worth the price
Lisa
Giapo's ice cream won't ever really let you down. I didn't like their new layout when I went last time however where they wouldn't allow the customer to see the ice cream but only the flavour names on the blackboard. I believe in the phrase 'You eat with you eyes' so hopefully that has changed now.
Maria
I've been longing to come here for so long and I love everything! The service, the interior, the quality of food, the aesthetics, the colours, everything is so pleasing to look at! First of all the service is brilliant. I came here and the lady was absolutely lovely. I forgot her name but she was smiling a lot and can really explain well the ingredients used in each ice cream flavour. I was amazed and so inspired to see how it was made. Food is my passion and I've heard so many good things about Giapo so it was definitely on top of my go-to bucketlist. The flavours were absolute genius and the marriage of the flavours complemented each other so well. There was different textures going on, crunchy, crumbly, creamy, and super delicious flavours all in one cup! I had a deluxe cup covered in caremalized white chocolate and other sweets. It was super yummy, a bit too bitter and really sweet. I suggest just to tone down/lessen the sweetness of the ice cream and the deluxe cones/cups so it's not overpowering and over sweetened so it doesn't disrupt the eating experience. I actually chose two flavours, the chocolate evolution and Giapo buono. As you can tell I'm very much into chocolate. When I tasted the other ice cream flavours, I thought that some were interesting and some could be improved with another complementing ingredient. I chose the Giapo buono simply because of the explosion in my mouth-it had some really creative flavours going on in there. The chocolate evolution also had some interesting flavours going on. I thought that if I combine these two flavours together, I knew it would taste like the best ice cream combination ever. And it was! (Although as I said earlier, LESSEN THE SUGAR/SWEETNESS of the ice cream because too much of it is not good) I'm not sure how you came up with the recipes for these flavours but all I can say is that it's superb! I now understand why Giapo is part of the top 50 restaurants in Auckland, it should be near or at the top because it's the bomb! I highly recommend this to chocolate/sweet lovers. The price for me is reasonable and worth it. I love the different techniques, toppings and tricks they used to make it look and taste super awesome! I love how they thought of glazing the piped pavlova on the top and the touch of golden nuts seemed like a work of art. It was stunning to look at and the food looked and tasted beautiful. The overall taste was one of a kind and I hope not to forget my experience here. Everything was just great and I just want to emphasize that fact!<br/><br/>Food: 5/5 -AMAZING!<br/>Service: 10/5 -Super great!<br/>Interior: 4.5/5 -make the shop colorful<br/>Price: 4/5 -lower the price by $2 or $3 Experience: 5/5 -loved seeing how it was made!<br/>Flavours: 5/5 -Fantastic!<br/>Presentation: 1000000/5 -What more can I say? The aesthetics were totally unbelievable. I would eat food looking like that any day.<br/><br/>I would totally come back here again, maybe during winter as a challenge he he! I confirm the fact that it is the best dessert parlour in Auckland- possibly in New Zealand and one day hopefully it will grow all over the world! One day I hope to own a restaurant/cafe as successful as Giapo. You guys rock! :)
Rachel
Had my first visit here with a friend. We were able to test taste all available flavours.<br/> There were all delicious and interesting! Also we had a lovely staff member serve us. She was very experienced and knowledge able of the products.  Once we chose our flavours it was cool to see the toppings placed on our ice creams. The taste was as enjoyable as its design. While we were eating however, our ice creams started to melt over the cups and I felt I spent more time focusing on that rather than eating it. Overall felt very welcome and had a great experience.
Smoothie Oeek
Bit pricey, but awesome, beautiful and delicious ice cream! Had matcha, pistachio and berry flavour. Absolutely delicous and a candy to the eyes as well.
Muffin Mum
The attached photo doesn't do this place justice. Many have posted decent photos and you really need to see the creations with your own eyes.<br/><br/>Every time we walked past there were queues, I got a message from a twitter friend that she was going to be in town and we could meet them there. After a very fast walk from Baduzzi we made it and took our place in line.<br/><br/>Thanks to Wendy Wings and family we had our turn, tried many flavours and made our choices. We were told that these choices change regularly so don't go expecting to get what you may see in a review, just go, try and chose. You can not see the ice-cream so your choice is based on flavour.<br/><br/>I went for the dark chocolate cup with raspberries and raspberry and pavlova ice-cream . It was so good, the stuff of dreams and the decoration was excellent. Mr enjoyed his too. Do it, go in, face the queue.

what a tasty gelato! unique flavour combinations. lovely little place that's mostly crowded. i tried the green tea gelato and it was superb!

What could be so great about gelato you might ask? Well the quality of giapo's product is amazing, but, their presentation of each of them being served up to you are simply stunning and each one is uniquely decorated. Some might say pricy but, actually, much cheaper than that frozen yoghurt place next door and MILES better!!
Corrine
The best ice cream, gelato and sorbet you'll come across on the planet. Honestly, you haven't lived until you've dined at Giapo's! Their flavours are *spectacular* and the presentation of each offering is outstanding.
Tan.ned
Love the range of ice creams available. Very hard choices to make though. Pretty pricy for the amount of icecream given for a small tub. Very rich tasting however and will indeed come back for more
Thefoodloverrr
Giapo is a really yummy gelato place. It definitely has improved over the 3 years since the first time I tried Giapo. The flavours are really good, and the added decoration to the gelato brings it to a whole new level of amazing. I had giapo bueno today and it was really good. The salted caramel, meringue and nuts combination was good. My friends had christchurch hazelnut, green tea, cookies and cream, and kiss kiss. They were really good as well. However, we found the green tea a little overpowering. I'll be back soon!
NZSteve
Great ice cream, so many fantastic flavours to choose from. Many novel and new flavours appear regularly and they usually are amazing <br/>Location is handy for before show treats or just a casual ice cream stop. <br/>Only down side is how they introduced the ice cream glass case decals so you can no longer choose by sight. I understand the idea but many people I know have stopped going as we look to choose by looking at them. Same with the kids, they want to see it first. <br/>Apart from that you won't find better ice cream in Auckland !

Part from coffee, I spend a lot of money on Giapo ice cream and it is probably one of the best ice creams I've ever tasted. Definetly the most memorable! I've been here now a few times and what changed comparing to last year, is that you can't see the ice cream any more. Instead, they want you to go after your taste which - jippie! - includes samples. <br/>I really have great respect for the staff who always are very patient, friendly, fast and talkative. I can imagine that it becomes very tiring to talk and explaine everything over and over. <br/>In any case: whenever we got visitors or friends coming over: we go to Giapo. It is a feast to go there!  The flavours are exceptional strong and good. I love the fact that you can exactly TASTE the real flavour. The Blood Orange - Martini Rosso really does taste like blood orange and martini rosso. Their Lemon Sorbet is sublime!<br/>The toppings vary per scoop; once I had pistachio and I didn't like the topping that much. Too much of little pistachio nuts. However, the ice cream itself will outrule that. It's delicious! <br/>For Giapo, I'll queue up. I'll save my $10 for 2 scoops. I'll go again. And again. And Again. Untill I had all the flavours :-)
Jenny Cao
Giapo may be a little bit pricey, but it's definitely worth the money, especially when they pile on toppings that always compliment the flavour of the ice cream. Their new pavlova one is to die for.
Coffee Lover
Yes This will be another review raving about this place. Great tasting ice cream. So artistically present. Served with a smile. For what you get I think it's pretty well priced. My tiamasu in a pot was topped with cocoa the had a lil choc cup n saucer that was filled with mouse and topped with a gold chocolate hazel nut. The selection of special cones and pots can only be discribed as works of art. There was a cue out the door but so well waiting for. I can see we'll be making more Sunday afternoon trips to Auckland now we've found Giapo.
Charlie M.
I used to frequent Giapo quite a lot during my university days and recently visited them a few months ago. I love their chocolate and hazelnut flavours the best. Once tried their salted caramel flavour and loved what I tasted. I don't mind coming back for more during my next visits to come

Located on mid Queen Street, Giapo remains one of the busiest dessert places Auckland has to offer. Every night that I've been, the queues have always been long, but it's totally worth it!<br/><br/>I went last week and ordered a cup of the cookies & cream. For $7 it's considered expensive, but I'm more than happy to pay for the quality. <br/><br/>The staff at Giapo are super lovely, and I've noticed they're great at social networking, which is impressive. Giapo is awesome if you want an amazing desert without having to sit down to eat it.
Miss Poppy
I enjoyed my pistachio gelato, but I prefer to see the flavours rather than have them written on a board.  The cups that they serve it in could also be bigger as some of my gelato was running down the side of the small cup.
Linny
I haven't been here in god knows how long and what a change!  I don't know when they changed their signage, decor and gelato cabinets to not be able to see all the flavours.  I didn't like that I couldn't see the gelato, I like to buy with my eyes and I felt by hiding the flavours it was really not that much of an enjoyable experience since the place is packed and we had to choose based on the board which only have their names but not what some of the flavours were.  So I waited patiently while the person in front of me asked about the flavours and tried each of them until they finally settled on their choice and when it came to my turn I had to do the same thing since I couldn't hear in there it was so loud.  In the end, when I finally chose (I had a child with me so I had to be particular as some had coffee or alcohol in it), they did make it very pretty and a lot more fancier than it ever used to be so I get why they increased the price.  Also,I don't think its too overpriced in comparison to getting a dessert at a restaurant or other ice cream places.  <br/><br/>Giapo is always consistent with their gelato.  I have only ever had one I didn't like so that's the great thing about it, but I didn't enjoy the new set up and while I will go back one day probably not anytime soon!
Bobby Anderson
Ice cream is delicious but I don't understand their menu! The cabinet should have a see-through glass for customers to choose from. <br/>
Anup Choudary
Creative ice-cream outlet with variety of updated flavors everyone. Liked the PB & B flavour so much. Definitely worth every penny if you are wondering of grabbing an ice-cream in the heart of the Auckland city.<br/>I really like the extra care and creativity which every staff takes into establishing the most amazing looking Ice-Cream you would ever seen. Really friendly staff and seems like they enjoy themselves, what they do at best. I really like the Idea of high stalls, it recollects all the fantasies/joy we had in our childhood, when we used to get excited with hearing the name 'Ice-Cream'. I would say that the staff do a great job of bringing smiles to everyone's faces. Its not a 5, due to the waiting time/rush we get into for buying an ice-cream. Overall, a Fantastic place for an amazing Giapo. #AdmireIt
Shharukh Issani (Sharkx)
Amazing ... No above Amazing.<br/><br/>Those ice cream flavors , presented so perfectly even tho its not fine dining I was flattered by a small cup with two different flavors of ice cream scoops with a small garnish to make it look pretty . Loved it . Have tried all flavors and love them equally. Great customer service .
Simone Cooper
Love this place. Tiramisu is excellent. Just annoying that you can't see the ice cream in the cabinet! We eat with our eyes first!
Shirley Yu
The best ice-cream I've ever had! Really amazing. I am totally impressed by the figure of their ice-cream. Soooooo nice! The taste of cookies is sweeter than the others and the flavor of green tea is nice as well. I would like to try some new ones next time!!! :-D
J.T547
I absolutely love Giapo. The best ice cream in Auckland. Each serve is topped with beautiful extras, such as macarons, candy floss and chocolate cups which puts this store above the rest. Highly recommended as a dessert spot in the CBD
Grace J
I absolutely love this place. My husband and I lived in town for two years, and this is what I miss the most about being in Auckland CBD...we were weekly (sometimes more) customers. Most delicious gelato, melt in your mouth goodness. Such interesting flavours too! My favourites were definitely the Kiss Kiss, Christchurch Hazelnut and Dark Chocolate. Can get quite busy but you know what? The wait is never long, service is great and they totally deserve it!

What's with all the people saying its expensive!?? Have they been to Movenpick before!? Giapo is the same quality, with far more interesting flavours - and its cheaper!! <br/>I've been going to Giapo for years. It can be hit and miss with the flavours - had a sample of a blue cheese one a while ago and I thought my mouth was going to shrivel and die! But respect for being a bit 'out there' with their experiments. I love the extravagant toppings....the service has never been awful in my experience, admittedly its probably young ish, carefree students working there for the most part....but you're only briefly standing at a counter...its not like its table service or anything!! Give it a go....be bold with your flavour choices and enjoy Giapo for what it is....a tastebud adventure.... ps.Californian Pistachio!!! Yummo!

Talking with a colleague at work this morning and he mentioned that he and his family had been to Giapo last weekend. They had a similarly unsavoury experience. He called it unfriendly and over-priced. Not surprised at all.

Yeah this place has nice ice cream but I wouldn't call it 'cheap' by any means. It's pretty damn expensive for a cone filled with ice cream LBR. Plus the place is so manic. It's small and people come in from either entrance and barge in to be seen first. The people behind the counter seem confused most of the time.<br/><br/>Great place if you're feeling rich hahaha.

LOVE THIS PLACE......awesome place with a very friendly atmosphere. Will definitely visit again. The staff are all fantastic and very friendly – They are always smiling and ready to help. Money well spent satisfaction.

I just love this place and my favourites avocado ice cream and pistachio. Its little bit disappointing the fact that they dont always have avocado flavour.<br/><br/>I've been bere many tirmes, and they have never disappointed me with the service and the ice cream.<br/>But I personally think that they should give more icecream compared to the price.

So, everyone raves about this place, I had to check it out. BIG MISTAKE. Although they serve above average flavours, and put thought into it, the customer service from what I assume to be 15 year olds working there is absolutely atrocious! The attitude and lack of skills to handle the pressure on a Saturday night is just not on. Here is a little tip: while working in front of customers, you don't snap at your colleague, " oh my god can you guys slow down I can't work this fast". Honey if you can't work that fast, you should not be working there. Further more I had never been here before, so I did not know what to expect at all. There are no boards to indicate what you are getting as toppings. When asking the teenager serving me for a chocolate one, she had no skills to deal with the fact that the one she had already given me was the most chocolate one there was, and the attitude I got, seriously if I wanted to deal with a hormonal teenager I would have gone to McDonalds, sorry I shouldn't say that even they have better service skills. It just put a damper on the entire night, as we had the most beautiful dinner at Tasca Newmarket just before that. I will not go there ever again, nor will I recommend it to anyone. In the end, I did not like the ice cream and sorbet at all, because the toppings were not something I would normally choose, had the toppings been communicated with me, or even if I felt that the staff members were helpful enough, so that I could ask what they were, maybe I would have been able to enjoy something that cost me $5. Going in there you feel like herded sheep, moving through to be sheared. The servers make you feel like another number. What an utterly disappointing experience.

Good one. <br/><br/>The flavours are what you really go for. I went to the gelato place downtown and they had some pretty standard things for a similar price. I hated their sorbets because they were just too sweet. Giapo does it better IMO. <br/><br/>It's a bit pricey so if your feeling on the cheap side, get a cone with two flavours and share with a friend ;) <br/><br/>Edit: I spend a great deal of my money and time here, and I've noticed how poor the service actually is. Really bad staff communication, curt service and no smiles. Your stuff is awesome Giapo, but I don't think a little friendliness is too much to ask for.<br/><br/>Edit 1/11/13: Price is just beyond what I'd consider being "worth it"
Pij
Amazing ice-cream. The hazelnut is my personal favourite. <br/><br/>I love how dedicated these guys are. They go to great lengths to ensure the ice-cream is made with organic and local ingredients. They're also always experimenting with crazy, but tasty ingredents. <br/><br/>Over the years, service has gone up and down, but the quality makes up for it. One of my favourite places in Auckland.
Jo W
Just another 5 star review. <br/>Delicious Flavour.<br/>Excellent quality.<br/>Recommendations : Pistahio. Cons : Sticky tables and slight wait, though they do try their best(Could be a bad day)<br/>No clarification whether or not this is gelato or ice-cream.
Anna
I can't rave enough about this place! <br/><br/>Exciting flavours - many with a sophisticated depth of taste. <br/><br/>For quirky flavours this is the place to come! I especially like the Dark Chocolate sorbet - rich and indulgent - yet vegan!! - wow!<br/><br/>Obviously the owner is passionate about this company and it really does show. It is an exciting and fun experience to eat here, somehow the crazy graphic design in the shop and attention to details adds to the experience. <br/><br/>I hear Giapo is actually studying food science at AUT and the staff are no doubt students from these courses too - fantastic that their knowledge is being applied to my favourite food- Gelato!! :-)<br/><br/>Giapo you are a treasure of Auckland!! (And no - I have not been paid to say this!!)
Jane K
I love the selection at Giapo but I feel like lately they're just overloading everything with sugar and I hate all the extra bits and pieces they put on top of your already huge and sweet ice cream. It's sickening and what makes it worse is that the cone is coated in chocolate on the inside too!<br/><br/>When you ask them not to put anything on top they look at you like you're really weird. Not everyone who enjoys ice cream is a pre-teen!
Hank Bao
My girlfriend and I once tried to finish one of the insane $16 giant cones and failed spectacularly! Great ice cream though, the flavours are creative and the cones are always nice and crispy.<br/><br/>My only gripe is the pricing, which does seem a bit high but not entirely unreasonable compared to other "boutique" ice cream places like Movenpick.
DillyDallyEllie
Been there a couple of times, lovely flavors. One time I bought two scoops and was sitting in the store, trying very hard to finish them. The head chef came by and offered me another scoop in a cup for free trial. Thank you very much chef, but it was such a sweet burden and I had to throw away most of it, which made me feel very guilty....
Noemi
Kind of gimmicky. Real gelato isn't as complicated as Giapo is. It's good for a sweet tooth but not really authentic.
Harps
Absolutely excellent ice cream. The flavors are insane, the quality is great and the service just as good. There is a huge range of flavors which change from time to time so you can always try something new.<br/><br/>The only issue is the pricing, it is not the cheapest place in the world, but it is worth the money once in a while. <br/><br/>I highly recommend this place.
Lucia Florence
The wildflower and guava sorbet is to die for. Great for date nights with your significant other, with friends, or family. An after dinner or movie treat in town, it's location is prime. Giapo cannot be missed, don't be afraid to try strange flavours like salty caramel, your mind will be blown! TEN STARS.
Candy Boy Food Journey
1 year ago I would say top 3 best ice cream shops in Auckland, but last 4 times the ice cream was very disappointing, the flavours were really bland.<br/><br/>All last 4 times I said I will try it again, but I think I will stop trying and just let this one go. Sorry Giapo we will not come back to you.
William
Yummy ice-cream and great for dessert after a big night out in town. Very extensive range of flavours and all very well made. Some flavours are also unique to Giapo such as "Salty Caramel". Prices are similar to what you pay for big brands like NZ Natural, and a little cheaper than the likes of Movenpick.
Adeline
How can you not adore this wee lovely ice cream shop? <br/><br/>But yes, I'll be the first to admit it - you either like it (by buying into its entire philosophy and what the business stands for)... or you don't (sure, you can get equally-as-good ice cream elsewhere - it's a free country, the choice is entirely up to you). But if you're looking for authentic, fresh, and innovative surprises for an ice cream treat - Giapo is for you. <br/><br/>I have personally brought in visitors to Auckland to Giapo's, and everyone always tells me that it's perhaps one of the best ice creams they've ever tasted. Needless to say, I myself always come back for more. Love the Colin Mathura Jefree concoction, avocado, anything with nuts in it... and kinda miss the pumpkin meringue one as well.
Luke Turner
If you are visiting Auckland, i strongly recommend you try out this place. You'll find more than your staple Gelato favourites of Baci, Nutella &amp; Straciatella here. Instead you will find Tiramisu with intricate care put into every step of the process from the lady fingers to the coffee, or with the Brownie flavour, there is top notch brownie actually inside it. The owner is a mad and passionate Italian guy who passionate about his products and constantly pushes the envelope with new flavours and combinations of ingredients.<br/>Where possible the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Not every one of his flavours will appeal to all, but there will be something for everyone here. When I have guests from overseas or out of town i make sure Giapo is a stop on the itinerary.
Peter Czaykowski
Yesterday my wife and I had ice-cream at Giapo's. This was not our first time there but certainly the most interesting. When the owner explained to us how much effort goes into this many, many different and tasteful creations, the quality of the ingredients and level of detail in each creation, we realized that this man is absolutely dedicated to his profession. I mean, he is even making his own chocolate! <br/>Before leaving, we got another taste of "Blueberry-Porcini Mushrooms". While I was quite apprehensive about ice-cream with mushroom inside I was in for a pleasant surprise. This was certainly the best "berry" ice-cream I ever had. <br/>We'll be there again very soon!
Annique Heesen
Ok so I'm a vegan, and it's pretty impossible to find any vegan treats !! And giapo is by far one of my fave! <br/>There is so Much choice and sooo yummy! I have now moved to Hamilton but I make sure when ever I'm in Auckland I get giapo!!! By the way mr. giapo bring a store to Hamilton!!!
Yoda
Very strange that 26 of the five star reviews for this shop have been made by people who have only ever posted one review, and the reviews are just too over the top to all ring true. <br/>It's good gelato but nothing that warrants such praise.
Paul Harvey
Whenever I get a chance to walk up Queen Street I head for Giapo Gelato and Research Kitchen . The Gelatos are just the best . My favourite at the moment is a poached peach gelato which is poached in Kim Crawford Pinot Noir . so yummy !!!
Gabriel Lunte
The five star rating is described on here as "Woohoo! As good as it gets!". This hardly does Giapo justice. It is not only as good as it gets, it's better than any gelato I have ever had anywhere ever always. Giapo is a gem, and a national treasure. I have absolutely never been disappointed with any of Giapo's range of eccentric flavours. Each seems more delicious than the last, and I am not just saying that. Simply fantastic, and great atmosphere!
Taster
Very disappointed by the owner who ruined the customer experience.<br/><br/>When I was holding an Indian takeaway food while I was ordering the Gelato, the owner of the shop said is this rubbish? You can't bring in smelly food.<br/><br/>I then said I am just carrying it while I am ordering it. Do you want customers? I am buying your stuff.<br/><br/>The owner then replied, no I don't need customers.<br/><br/>After that I decided to walk out of the store disgusted by his rude attitude.<br/><br/>His presence doing nothing but touching his phone in front of his store will further ruin his store.
Annet
Giapo has fantastic gelato ice cream. Amazing flavours to choose from. I love that you can try each flavour before you buy. The staff are all fantastic and very friendly - They are always smiling and ready to help.<br/><br/>Simply the best icecream I have had!!!
Samuel Mathew
awesome place with a very friendly atmosphere... Totally trans fat free and sticks to its mission... Good quality and quantity and comes with a money well spent satisfaction... I study science and I like the experiments being done here. I also love all the chocolate flavours especially the chocolate with blue cheese and the chocolate with the red wine... Thanks Giapo....
Alice P
Giapo is a one of a kind, unique gelato shop. They go beyond the meaning of an 'ice-cream shop' - their range of flavours are as dazzling and cheerful as the shop interior itself! I love how Giapo uses organic when possible, and produces sorbets for vegans and other dietary needs.<br/>My favourite is the blueberry sorbet! However I always aim to try a more unusual flavour combination.<br/>Today I has organic lemon sorbet and green tea matcha sorbet - the best I've tasted! No gelateria or ice cream shop I've been to manages to make their matcha flavour so close to the Japanese drink itself - I love it!<br/>Thank you Giapo for the amazing experience every time!
Lennie
The Matcha Green Tea is great, it is a very different taste so Haden H. your taste buds may not be refined and ready for something so 'out there'.... But Giapo is an institution! 5 stars guys, see you again soon!
Laura
Giapo is one of the best gelato shops in Auckland! They have freshly made gelato, fairly large servings (ask for the cup ones), FREE WI-FI, flavour samples and constantly producing new flavors - the matcha green tea one is good as :)
Haden Hansen
To be honest, I don't get the fuss? You can get equally good gelato elsewhere in Auckland and at far more reasonable costs. P.S the Matcha Gelato is awful.
Liza Bolton
I fall in love every time I walk into Giapo.<br/><br/>The range of flavours to try is incredible, and there are new ones on a weekly basis. <br/><br/>The staff are always friendly and quick to serve you, even when they are really busy.<br/><br/>The free tasters mean when you finally choose you will be very happy, and the organic cones are truly delicious!<br/><br/>The best food experience I've ever had!
Alexi Laurie
I love this place! Their Gelato is the best that I have tasted with interesting flavours that you may have never thought of trying before. A great thing is they let you try which ever flavour you want before you decide on your choice. Some might think that it's pricy, but when you factor in the beautiful taste and how much thought the owner has put in to making his gelatos the best there are (no Trans-Fats!) it's a pretty good deal.
Kalisha Wasasala
Giapo is one of my favourite eateries in Auckland!<br/>The gelato and sorbet are absolutely delicious, plus they're super healthy which is even better. There are lots of different, very creative flavours (my favourite is white chocolate and coconut), many I haven't even heard of but taste amazing. Giapo always plays great music and holds events which are always entirely fun. The design of the shop is fantastic, and it's really bright and lovely. Plus, they offer free WiFi and use of the video camera, haha.<br/>I'm a regular at Giapo and the staff are always very friendly and helpful. The customer service is so outstanding, which is partially why I always go back. Also, they offer free tasters so you know what you're buying. The hours are very convenient as I'm always around at strange times and they always seem to be open. It's a very convenient meetup place because of the openness and where it is situated.<br/>Every time I go is another unique experience and I love it!
Jane F
Am a regular here and try different flavours each time - free sampling means you never disappointed with choice. Nephew opted for enormous chocolate/sugar cone which holds +-5 scoops - excellent. Gelato quality superb: difficult to decide on a favourite so keep going back. Open late: ideal.<br/>Highly recommended
Jayke D
I've been a regular customer of Giapo's for the last year and a half, not only for the fact that its gelato is by far the best you will ever taste, but also because it has the best customer service I have ever seen in ANY sort of shop or store, anywhere. <br/>As soon as you enter, you are greeted by the friendliest smile. They all have a clear understanding of all the flavours that they sell and are able to give advice when wondering what would go well with a certain flavour, what the new flavours are or just what they personally recommend.<br/><br/>I also love the fact that they offer samples of each flavour, (sometimes without you even asking!) so you can get a preview of what each of the many unique and special flavours that Giapo offers tastes like.<br/><br/>Giapo is one of my few little happy places in town; if I'm bored, feeling down or just plain hungry, Giapo will never fail to make me feel better from its amazingly positive atmosphere and just the general buzz around the store. <br/><br/>i♥Giapo.
Corey
They have the most amazing range of freshly made organic gelato's and sorbet's. A place you have to visit more than once as they have flavours changing all the time. They also invent new flavours all the time. Latest favorite is Death By Chocolate. I loved the Chocolate and Red Wine mixes. Great to see some Kiwi favorites like Pavlova sorbet. Not to forget organic cookies and cream. Go in and check it out for yourself. Have a favorite or see out a new one.<br/><br/>Try a sample for the friendly staff and ask them to recommend a new flavour to go with your favorite. They are good at matching up for a taste bud experience. <br/><br/>Always stop at Giapo if on Auckland's Queen Street.
Earl Vasquez
Very good. Fun place, seems a bit clique-y if you know what I mean. The gelato is great.
DoubleDworks
Its always an experience when you arrive @giapo’s.. Making a decision is your next.. Little tasters are on offer to help you make the appropriate choice for this pleasant moment in time.. I always opt for one of their amazing hand made cones sealed inside with chocolate.. I’m not sure why.. #yeahright.. Its because they are to die for fresh.. <br/><br/>The ultimate experience is when you have a flavour named after you and or taste some of this geniuses work made from your own fruit.. I never knew our lemons were so #nomnom until I met the #gelato king.. If you are looking for the best ice cream / sorbet treat ever made, you must check out my fratello ;)
Chris Hoffmann
there are not words to describe the experience that is Giapo gelato. If you like ice-cream you will LOVE Giapo! Parking can be fun during the day but there are plenty of parking buildings in the area. Recommend you taste a few flavors so you find something awesome!!!
Livvy James
The best gelato I've ever had. The flavours are so creative, and are always changing. My favourite ever is the organic cocoa sorbet, but I also LOVE peanut slab, white chocolate coconut, dazzlelicious, chocolate brownies, white chocolate macadaemia and mochacino. The portions are very generous, and the cones are delicious!

Ok, so GIAPO is a pretty cool place, went in for about the 4th day in a row! Tried a new flavour that someone recommended to me, it was Plum and Brandy (some Italian name i cant remember or probably spell actually!) but it was really nice, I was kind of wary getting it since I hate the taste of alcohol, like in trifle etc, but i could barely taste it, it left a little aftertaste, but nothing bad. As for the plum, (which I can't say I'm much of a fan of either! I'm amazed i was talked into it today!) that was really good! It was nice and refreshing on the hot day we had today, so quite nice, I reckoned it tasted a little bit yogurty.<br/><br/>Although I do have to say it's not my favourite from GIAPO, it was still really good! I usually like Chocolatey flavours but I found that the orange and strawberry sorbets were really nice and fruity, it amazed me how simple his sorbet recipes were! 3 ingredients! Wow! TBH, GIAPO Hazelnut is still my ultimate favourite, but almost all are really good. Just saw on twitter that Gianpaolo is looking for some organic Fejoas so I can't wait for that flavour.<br/><br/>The last thing that is a total plus us that you can ask for a taste of any of the flavours so you don't end up with something you might not like. And last note I PROMISE! Free wifi for all you techies out there!
Noelia Gonzalez Quiñones
I have been here several times, and I've loved it every single time. There are so many flavours to choose from and they all sound so good, you just don't know which one to pick. The staff are friendly too, and they even offer us free samples sometimes. I can't wait to go back.
H Weston
I love Giapo. It beats any other ice cream in NZ on taste! Worth the $7 for an organic taste sensation! My boyfriend and I adore these ice creams and drive into town atleast once a week to treat ourselves + taking any visiting friends there is a must!! :) We think Mission Bay needs a Giapo!!!! Peanut butter is our fave. LOVE IT. TRY IT!!!!!
Melanie Bailey-Reeve
I LOVE Giapo!<br/>Everytime we are in town we have to go there, I have a had time deciding what I want but can really recommend the Chocolate Sorbet in all it's rich, chocolatey goodness.<br/>The staff are always friendly, the atmosphere is always fun and my kids love it too.
Nathan Dunn
A combination of a funky interior, great social marketing and a tasty product make for an unique experience at Giapo.<br/><br/>The gelato and ice-cream is very tasty, the flavours diverse, and they are true to how they are described (mandarin actually tastes like mandarins!<br/><br/>Organic and low fat flavours, Giapo really is guilt free. I highly recommend a visit, they are central located (right next to The Civic)
Serena
I think Giapo is brilliant :D The friendly and funny staff are a definite plus, they always make me laugh Haha, I love how when you go in there, there's always new and different flavours, ALWAYS! It makes for a different taste experience every time :p So you HAVE to try something new! I love how Giapo gets to know it's customers as well :) And the taste of the ice cream is definitely worth the price.. I haven't had better tasting Gelato before! :D
Jayson Kingsbeer
Giapo is an amazing gelato shop next to the Civic Theatre on Queen Street.<br/><br/>Giapo has the BEST gelato with all my favourite flavours! The store has an awesome ambiance with great music, free WiFi and an awesome design. The owner Gianpaolo has a huge emphasis on GREAT customer service. As you enter the shop you will be greeted with smiling staff (Possibly even Gianpaolo himself!) handing you delicious samples of the many flavours that Giapo has to offer.<br/><br/>I am very pleased that I came across Giapo on Twitter. Giapo is ALWAYS my first and last stop when I am in Auckland City.
Morgan Terrill
Giapo is awesome. It has a very friendly community atmosphere and his Gelato is to die for. Seriously, if you haven't been you should try it out. You'll love yourself for doing it.
Ryan
Giapo is amazing, not just the gelato but the whole experience. It's a whole heap of fun, especially karaoke Wednesdays.<br/><br/>So whether you're after a gelato, sorbet, smoothie, shake or even organic almond milk! give Giapo a visit, you won't regret it!! xD
Peter Katelaan
Yepp, this is probably the best gelato you can get in Auckland. Just try for yourself, you won't regret it!
Brad Annals
In all honesty this was the best gelato and sorbet that I have ever had.<br/><br/>The creamy texture of the chocolate fantasy is like black velvet, smooth, cool, sexy. There is no question that the chocolate used is real, unlike flavor additives used by other proprietors. <br/><br/>Giapo Gelato on Queen St in the city is Genuine Italian Gelato. From the flavors of the product, to the master gelato artigiano himself Gianpaolo Grazioli, who usually will be found in Giapo's Gelato kitchen perfecting his flavors, or hanging out with his customers, who one could easily confuse for family.<br/><br/>The store is fun, the staff are friendly and keen for you to experience these flavors for yourself, offering a 'try before you buy' sample of the product. And of course the MONSTER sized chocolate covered waffle cone, the limitations of which are only governed by the size of your stomach!! <br/><br/>If my life was a top 10 of things to try before you die, Giapo Gelato would definitely be in the top 5.<br/><br/>Bravissimo!!
Corey
Amazing icecream. Best gelato in the world. <br/><br/>You MUST visit Giapo and try some Giapo Icecream. Afterall, they make the best flavors ever.. <br/><br/>Including Coca-Cola, Beer, Popcorn, Passion Fruit, Avocado, Citrus Crush/Jaffa (My Favorite) <br/><br/>And most of all i am typing this review from the Giapo store. Free WIFI for everybody. <br/><br/>The password to get on the internet is on the wall... At the moment the password is "GIAPO" <br/><br/>I am here now. If you are around, come now.
Xin-Yan Cheng
Best gelato in Auckland!! Anyone who's in for a fun, contemporary experience that maintains Italy's high traditional culinary standards, this is the place to go. Every mouthful is luscious, rich in flavour, smooth, silky and sends you to heaven. The staff is friendly and they are always open to new ideas for flavours and desserts. Almost every week Giapo churns out a new creative flavour! They also offer the good old chocolate, vanilla, hazelnut, as well as some more funky ones such as chilli chocolate, avocado, coffee and baileys, tiramisu, lavendar, etc etc. <br/>The whole place bursts with a sense of fun, true to Giapo's motto of putting a smile on everyone's faces. <br/>Prices are reasonable, as you pay for what you get - good quality ice cream. Seriously, every mouthful is worth it. <br/>Giapo is a place you won't want to miss!
Marie
Giapo leaves the rest behind! It serves creative, tasty, healthy gelatos. The service is personal and I especially love the energy and the community following Giapo creates by giving customers a great experience!
Phoebe
Best icecream in Auckland, easily. The owner is clearly passionate about icecream and the staff are all really friendly. Try it and you'll be hooked like the rest of us giapo lovers :)
Dharmesh N
A friend of mine introduced me to the Giapo experience.<br/>I call it the Giapo experience because everytime you walk in there, it's just a feeling of being out of this world.<br/><br/>When you walk in, you're warmly greeted by the staff who then start giving you tasters of the new ice creams.<br/>There's always something different to try, and there are different flavours to suit everyones favourite tastes.<br/><br/>So you get your ice-cream and then there's somewhere to sit down and enjoy it whilst just mellowing out to the Giapo experience.<br/><br/>It's very quickly become my favourite ice cream place and every single person I've taken there, has always walked out with a big grin and said "this is the best ice cream ever."<br/><br/>I know it says Genuine Italian Gelato - but even more, it's a Genuine Italian Experience right here in New Zealand.<br/><br/>If you haven't been to Giapo yet, I think it should be on your top 5 list of things to do in this lifetime.<br/>If you're passing by, pop in and try it out. I'm sure you'll love it just as much as I do because it's more than just ice cream, it's a truly hospitable experience.<br/><br/>Thank you Gianpaolo and everyone.
Courtney Sit
When I first discovered this store back in February, I fell in love with it straightaway!<br/><br/>And the proof is here - I'm there at least once a week, if not more and everyone who works there recognises me too.<br/><br/>What I love about Giapo isn't just the gelato - and all the flavours which change the regularly, or better still you can request a flavour which they will try to make for you if they can; but the experience you get whenever you are there - you can't help but be happy when you are in the store!<br/><br/>Giapo has become my all time favourite ice cream place and I look forward to enjoying it over the summer months! I will keep spreading the word about the place and how much I love it there!<br/><br/>Good work Gianpaulo, Annarossa and the team at Giapo! :D
Wendy Lester
Every person I know who has visited Giapo says the same thing "the best ice cream I have ever tasted" and with good reason !<br/>Nobody can ever visit just once and why would you,Giapo has so many flavours you can not limit yourself to just one visit.<br/>Character filled,a visit to Giapo should be on everyones bucket list
Cameo Yung
AMAZING<br/><br/>Truly amazing.<br/><br/>Why are you still here reading this review? Go and get some ice cream or gelato from giapo now!!!
John Delgado
Since I have discovered Giapo I cannot help telling all my friends. This is the best ice cream I have eaten in a very long time. It reminds me of my childhood holidays in Italy. Here no preservatives or artificial colours. Only 100% natural ingredients no less - I loved the chili chocolate and the kiwi fruit sorbet they are simply excellent. The owner is a nice and crazy italian guy so passionate about his business it comforts my faith in small artisan businesses. Happy Giapo !
John Palino
If ever you are in Auckland City, please take the time and give yourself a treat because you deserve it. You must go to this wonderful place that I think is much more than Gelato but an experience. <br/>For anyone who has watched my show "The Kitchen Job" you would know that it is so important for me that a restaurant or cafe or even a Gelato shop creates a memory for you. Giapo creates a wonderful memory. Like when I was a kid going to the ice cream shop with my parents and at that young age all you needed was the ice cream to get you excited.<br/> Here at Giapo the young Italian owner Gianpaolo Grazioli has created something from which he had dreamed. It is filled with excitement and character. It is filled with so much character starting from the ice cream to the cones, the add ons, the decor and even the furniture. Well Gianpaolo himself is the largest character, he would have to be to have created all of this.<br/> Now as you walk on by you feel the draw of Giapo and left with no choice but to go in. Once you are in, the wonderful staff are handing you little tastes of the many different flavors he makes there daily.<br/>I think they know once you have tried you have to have one. But now what flavor am I to pick, there are so many. Thats ok just go back again tomorrow. <br/>Buon Appetito<br/>John Palino

Amazing gelato! And great service!!

Holy Smokes! Ok so I know a few people have mentioned the price of the desserts here, but so worth it. In fact, I didn't think it was too badly priced at all. That aside, I had the biggest shock when the lady at the counter explained that they didn't allow people to actually see the ice creams because people make a decision based on the look of an ice cream rather than the actual flavours/taste. Which makes a whole lot of sense seeing as how we do "eat with our eyes" as they say. I was even more taken aback when the lady preceded to start handing me little ice cream sticks with the different flavours they had available to start tasting them so I could make a decision on what ice cream flavour I wanted to buy. Seriously? Being able to "test" the desserts before buying? Already winning in my books! <br/><br/>The range of flavours is amazing, it's definitely going to cater for some very niche tastebuds. <br/><br/>I eventually, after a big dilemma on deciding what to get, settled on the pistachio and hazelnut flavoured ice creams. I was really happy with my choice. BUT, just when I thought they'd done everything they could possible do to impress me - out come the ice cream I ordered...with a nutty topping sprinkled on top and a mini macaron! Not only was the ice cream divine to say the least, they then presented this little gem with such pride and care that I could not wait to devour it! I of course took a photo before I did - because this had to be remembered in the photographic archives and shown off a bit to the work buddies too. <br/><br/>One of the best little dessert shops I've ever visited! So good!! <br/><br/>All i can say to them is keep it up - you've got it right!

Giapo has the best gelato by far. Their cocoa sorbet is the best!!!

Yum!!!!! <br/>It's pretty expensive but they re so worth it &lt;3 I got the hazelnut chocolate but there are so many other flavours available and they always offer tasting tester spoons (with decent amount of ice cream on them). Perfect place if you want to impress a person on your first date... unless they hate ice cream and gelato ... then definitely don't go there :P The flavours are so extreme that I can only remember a few but there are ones like Potato!! AND IT'S SO GOOD!

Thank you zomato. . Am able to relive the moments of my student days few years ago. I remember going to giapo with my best buddies and the live you tube videocast. . We were awed by. The ice cream is certainly different from all the creamier, gelatos I have had till now. not sure about their quality now, this place was one of our regular celebration spots. The waffle come must have evolved now, then it wasn't much to talk about. Ice cream does carry more points and the service too.

This is different to your usual gelatos, not just in flavour but also in texture- it's smooth and creamy with a texture halfway between a soft serve and ice cream which is great because all the other places serve gelato that looks and tastes the same as ice cream..<br/><br/>However, my recent visits have left me underwhelmed with their increased prices and tiny serving sizes. The flavours are no longer as innovative and exciting, nor do they change frequently anymore.

This is not another ice cream parlor, nor is it another gelato shop, this is a place of excitement, experimentation and exquisite textures and flavours.<br/><br/>Gianpaolo Grazioli, “Giapo” is a clever man. A man with a vision and a man who loves to play with his food.<br/><br/>An ice cream here is not just an ice cream. It is made fresh daily to assure you get the lightest, creamiest, freshest tasting product and I am sorry if all you want is a plain boring cone or cup. Every flavour comes with well thought out toppings that add texture, depth and a bit of a story.<br/><br/>Take the Kiwifruit sorbet for example- it comes layered with homemade raspberry jam and crisp meringue – a take on the good old kiwi favourite dessert the pavlova. Or the lemon sorbet the most safe most unassuming of all the flavours comes with a cloud of fresh candyfloss, some polyhantus flower and a mandarin pate de fruit!<br/><br/>There is nothing boring or expected about Giapo’s selection of the day, today there was hokey pokey.. with crisp bacon enrobed in white chocolate…. dark chocolate with blue cheese, rum- which had a real kick and was topped with its own freshly baked macaroon with rum ganache.<br/><br/>For the full experience visit http://mrspotandmrlid.wordpress.com/2013/07/04/this-is-not-another-ice-cream-parlor/

This is probably the Chanel of ice cream (both in price and quality). Unlike Karl Lagerfeld’s creations, you can actually eat and enjoy Gianpaolo Grazioli’s creations.<br/>It's been a while since I came to Giapo and I love its new look now. <br/>Their old look was cute actually but the shop’s look works more with the haute ice cream they’ve got going on. If you eat ice cream by the window, you can see all the people passing by-envying you hahaha.<br/>Ice cream is awesome. They still have the classics but with a Giapo twist and it's always fun to try out the interesting flavour combinations that they come up with. Another bonus is that it's always well presented. - My green tea ice cream had a mini macaron on top!<br/>I recently tried their deluxe cone. It's quite expensive but man it was so good - covered in white chocolate and dehydrated berries (I think). It's quite special. <br/> <br/>more photos : http://sweetsandbrains.com/2014/01/20/giapo/

Giapo is a bit pricey, but worth it for excellent unique flavoured icecreams that are world renowned to be delicious. Cones are more pricey than cups, but I think look better and don't have this cardboardy taste at the end, but that's just hypersensitive me. One scoop in a cone costs the same as a double scoop in cup ($7.50) but the deluxe special cones are like twice the price (but very pretty and probably delicious too). Apart from the rising price (I miss the university student days of $4 cones), Giapo continues to have innovative flavours from local ingredients as well as classics returning again and again to the counter. The staff are extremely helpful although I myself didn't hear any testers being offered while deliberating. If you go too late though, only the less than nice flavours are left. My first experience of Giapo after an evening concert was not so good as the banana flavour was far too strong and sweet. Now I've learnt to go in afternoons or so and my favourites are the dark chocolate and the lemon. Toppings are always really great here. Lemon is topped with delicious wispy candyfloss and chocolate with chocolate discs and gold ball sprinkles. The flavours are all rich, made from local quality ingredients where possible, and are the results of Giapo's innovative creating. Make sure you try them at least once this summer!<br/><br/>EDIT: Giapo has since revamped so that you cannot see its flavours and you just sort of have to guess at if you'd like it. A big part of the Giapo experience in my opinion was seeing the array of creative flavours so I was a bit disappointed by the revamp personally. There were some strange flavours offered, I particularly recall a sheep yoghurt and figs flavour, but most of the flavour names aren't as descriptive anymore either. After much explanation from the girl behind the counter (who was patiently dealing with our shock at the rebranding, I'm glad their service remained as faultless as ever), I opted for Kiss Kiss which was a blend of chocolate and Christchurch White Heart hazelnut. It was a great blend that really brought out the richness of the chocolate. I also loved the topping of my one, which had a silver macaron and dark chocolate piped decorations. Unfortunately, most of the other flavours' toppings seemed less nice, with one aptly described by its owner as "a mini dried fruit kebab with chocolate dreadlocks". I'm not even kidding. I'm not sure how I feel about Giapo's revamp, but I find on the whole if you avoid the stranger-sounding flavours (unless you're super adventurous and enjoy the risk of getting something that tastes weird) then you still get that delicious gelato you're craving. There's still nobody quite like them for using ingredients in innovative ways.

The prices for Giapo ice cream have gone through the roof recently, with one scoop in a normal cone costing $7.50 (you'd need to pay nearly double that for a deluxe cone), but it is also very good. Not surprisingly, a couple of frozen yoghurt stores have opened next door, trying to tempt the overflowing customers away.<br/><br/>The presentation of the ice creams is always delightful, and suited to the flavours you have chosen. Sometimes you get a bit of candyfloss, sometimes a piece of cake, sometimes a meringue topping, whatever Gianpaolo deems worthy of the ice cream.<br/><br/>A new flavour can be a bit experimental, and not work as well as an established flavour (apart from smoked salmon or bacon in the ice cream, past flavours have included things like "Unorthodox Risotto Milanese with Saffron, Onions and Parmesan"), but if you are worried about committing to a flavour you might not like, the staff are always happy to give you a small tasting first.<br/><br/>The shopfront was redesigned 8 months ago, so that it looks more sleek and artisanal, with gold lettering on the windows. I have to admit I preferred the old decor with purple tall chairs so you could sit at a table outside though, a bit more playful and less grown up. No matter, GIapo is still having fun with his ice creams, and I would love to see his kitchen playground.

Giapo is one place which you kind of have to visit if you're ever in the Auckland CBD in the summer. Its the perfect treat to keep you cool and all sugared up. They have a really unique range of flavours which is what makes Giapo so fun and unique. The prices are a little steep, but honestly, its not like your going here everyday, and its always ok to spoil yourself once in a while. Woof.

Yes it's expensive, but at Giapo you get your money's worth with the best ice cream in New Zealand. If you're passing through Auckland, this is one of the places you have to visit!<br/><br/>The flavours you find here are unique and inspired. Also, each flavour comes with its own complementary topping, ranging from a chocolate brownie to a giant lump of cotton candy! The final result is more of a well-crafted dessert rather than an ice cream. The staff is always friendly and polite.<br/><br/>Its hard to recommend a single flavour at Giapo. Do you want a caffeine fix? Go for the Tiramisu. Can't get over Nutella? Try the Christchurch Hazelnut. Would you like something salty to go with the sweet? Salty Caramel. I personally adore the rich taste of the California Pistachio.

I am working my way through the Giapo menu. Given that I live in Wellington this is a little challenging but the sublime tiramisu has me convinced it is TOTALLY worth it. The texture and the subtle flavour combinations were just incredible. I have also tried the kiss kiss which was yummo - rich and nutty, dark and unctuous. Definitely the best ice cream in Aotearoa, and in my book well up the amongst the best I have tried around the world.
