Review Jervois Steak House - Auckland Central

A good place to enjoy Kiwi-style steaks in a classy atmosphere. Crowded, so reservations are essential. Enjoy the huge T-bone steaks with a large group. (My favarite is beef tartar.) There are many kinds of wine, and those who like it will surely be satisfied.

Brought our guests here last night and it was a fantastic place for dinner. Service was excellent. The food really good and the atmosphere nothing short of great. Will definitely come back. Our guests from abroad loved it too. Thanks guys.

Had a wonderful steak dinner on Sunday night. The service is very attentive and friendly while the scotch steak was nicely marbled and perfectly cooked to medium rare for my liking. The burrata salad was delicious as well. Highly recommend this for meat lovers.

We visit occasionally, beautiful steaks and their sauces are fantastic. Love their sides, portion is generous and will definitely fill you up. Their service is excellent and even though it’s not cheap but I find it to be good value given the quality of their food. A bit hard to park in the area, you may have to go a bit further and turn into the side roads.

Great staff, looked after the whole night with our Argentinian host. Ordered the A5 Wagu ($190) and $200 T-bone for 2. Lots of good sides too. Sauces were good, bearnaise, peppercorn, jalapeño hollandaise, red wine jus and garlic butter. First time at Jervois Steak House and will definitely be going again. Have been to lots of Steak Restaurants and should have been sooner. Food was very good and the host made the night. Table was upstairs. Recommended

Came here with my husband to celebrate our first marriage anniversary and we were not disappointed!! Highly recommend chef’s board and truffle macncheese!! Our server was helpful and friendly. Great place to treat yourself or for special occasions

Food and service were great . Sides portions could be more .cocktails were perfect. We went there for my Bday and enjoyed the cocktails more than anything. Expensive. Thanks

From handcrafted and perfected cocktails to perfectly selected cuts of meat, this place was AMAZING! We celebrated my husband's 35th birthday at the Auckland location, and our experience was nothing short of perfection. The apps were delicious and the steaks were cooked EXACTLY how they should be. My Dad had the petit filet, my husband the Scotch filet, and I took down the 800g T-bone. The meat sweats afterwards were totally worth it. The sides came in hearty portions and were very tasty. I wish we lived in NZ because we'd definitely go back!

Brilliant steak spot! All the meats were cooked exactly as requested and the cuts were amazing. Good accompanyments which don't overpower the main course and a great selection of wines and other drinks that compliment the steak. Whilst more on the pricey end, its definitely worth the money if you are looking for both quantity and quality!

Most amazing service. I must compliment the bartender, classic cocktails were on point. Flavour and presentation was perfection. Food was of course perfect, steaks perfectly cooked and we had a mix of entrees and the Alaskan king crab was delicious. We will be back.

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been. For the first time, we did not make a reservation but it shows that the restaurant was open. When we get there, it was not.<br/>Today it’s my first-year anniversary with my boyfriend and we booked a table for 2 at 5.30pm. We arrived there about ten minutes earlier. The one at the reception who was also the one who served us did not even look at me when we got in. He asked me to wait at the bar counter instead of asking me to go to our table even though our table was ready. He kept serving others until I asked for the second time. The table was real small and I had nowhere to put my flowers. He came and asked rudely to put my flowers away. I was not happy but I still put my flowers on the floor. He asked me whether there was a problem and I said I was not happy with this small table and his service. Then he asked me to leave and refused to give me his name for complaint. After all he refused to apologize.

Best mac and cheese, oh that truffle flavour<br/>Partner claims best gnocchi he has ever had<br/>Lovely steaks<br/>Pricey but good quality of food

I got the medium scotch fillet which was very juicy, mouth watering, melted in my mouth and very very delicious. For the sides, I would recommend the baked candied kumara. It was so sweet and creamy, the smell of pecans was just hit into my nose.

Food was very delicious, the best steak I have ever had, but this is a once in a rare occasion type of place (quite expensive)- was charged surcharge despite using eftpos. Servers very friendly albeit one server-

Friendly staff, sophisticated ambience with good choice of music (and not so loud). Well recommend!

Very good meat, very fresh and good quality. Entrees are nice too.

I’ve been waiting a long time to try jervois and sadly won’t be coming back. We had the scallops to start with, which were not bad but the crackling that came with it looked like the crackling snack you get from the liquor store. We then ordered the wagyu scotch and a petite eye fillet and asked for both to be medium rear, i could honstly say i could have played hand ball or thrown it at the wall and it would have bounced back at me. It was so well done that the knife wouldn’t cut through it. the sides were 30 buks and pretty much out of a frezzer bag, your local bar would smash a better onion ring made from scratch, dokha on broccoli thats a herb for a confused place not a steak house lets keep it simple dont waste your money and save your fuel. Don't be fooled by the reviews

We went there for my bfs bday, prebooked and asked if i could bring a cake, they were great and let me bring a cake and even brought it out for dessert with the candles lighted. We ordered the beef tartare and white bait fitter for entre and wagyu sirloin and angus petite eye fillet with truffle mac n cheese, mushrooms and onion rings as sides. The food was AMAZING, worth the price and the waiter who served our table was great! <br/>The only fault from the night was the waitress who served our main. She served the wrong steaks to us and with a restaurant with this quality would serve the wrong mains which i ended up swapping seems unacceptable (and also she didn’t seem to care much. she served me the sirloin and bf the petite eye fillet.) it may seem like a tiny mistake but you expect a better quality service than this when are sitting at such a great restaurant. But the better side of this story is that They also provided a small dessert for my bf as i prebooked for his bday which made him feel very special. Would have been a 5+ night but what a shame she didn’t care to serve the right mains, it was almost like a perfectly ironed white shirt with a tiny drop of something on it.

Absolutely amazing! Glad my partner took me out here for dinner for my birthday! Will definitely be back again

The service was great. The entrees were tasty, but the wagyu steak was undercook and the sauce is way too salty. The lamb rack was good.

The place is so cool giving you a rustic ambiance. The food was great. The steaks we had were cooked to perfection. Great service and amazing staff. Highly recommended!

I had the 300g Wagyu Scotch, the right corner of first photo. I knew it’s going to be good by the marbling of the meat 🥩 I love how they bring out the raw meat for customers to see before cooking them, so we can get a better idea of what we are ordering, in terms of size, meat type & thickness! Especially for non-seasoned steak eaters, this is helpful. I asked for medium-rare, but when it came out, it was more like medium (I wish I took a photo of that, barely any sign of red) but they happily took that back and made me another. They said my preference is actually rare 🤨 I’ve always ordered medium-rare for my steak though. In any case, I liked how it came out the second time, please refer to the last photo. Overall we loved the steak served and cleared our plates 👌🏼 I also highly recommend the baked kumara pecans for sides, the kumara they used was very sweet and went perfectly with the pecans sprinkled on top!

We've been coming to Jervois Steak House since they opened and have always loved the place but this time was definitely a letdown to the point where i'm not sure id be back in a hurry. When we sat down, the table next to us sent their steaks back for being undercooked. After watching this happen we were of the opinion that "who in their right mind would send back a steak unless it was completely uneatable" and wrote them off as difficult customers. When our steaks arrived they were massively overcooked, We asked for medium rare and these were well done.. When we pointed this out to the waiter he was very defensive and told us we were wrong. He then had the nerve to suggest it was the poor lighting in the restaurant and that we should shine the torch on our iphones on it to get a better look. Until i cut into the centre and showed him then he told us he could send them back but because of time constraints we couldnt wait another 20 mins for some new steaks. We both struggled away through them but couldnt continue and left most of it. The sides at $10 each weren't much better, The chips were so overcooked we could barely eat them, the creamed spinach which by the way is usually amazing and a personal favourite over the last 3 years contained no cream that we could distinguish and was just a bunch of blended spinach and the rest of the sides were massively under-seasoned. It just simply wasn't enjoyable and if i'm completely honest i might as well been at Cobb and Co. That's how underwhelming it was. I'm the last person to ever complain about food in a restaurant as i feel empathy for chefs who work hard in a kitchen all night, and have never sent back food in my life never mind give a scathing review on Zomato.. As long as its roughly ok i will happily eat it but this was simply not up to par. I think if you are charging $53 for a steak and have the word steak in your restaurant name then you should above anything else be able to cook the steak to perfection.

After being told to come here as its apparently "The best steak place in Auckland".... We were let down, especially for a place that has a 4.7/5 star rating. What sounded good on the menu and presented well... thats all it was. 4 of us attended, 2 sent their meals back as it was under cooked (I was also going to send mine back but couldn't get bothered waiting). We asked for medium and medium rare and got a piece of beef that looked like it had been on a cast-iron pan for a min on each side. All they did was chuck it back on and serve it back. The beef was cold. The pulled lamb was way too salty. Only good thing was the service by the waiter (as they show the cut they're going to be cooking you), the mash Kumara and my mates T-Bone steak. Went to pay the bill, the guy didn't seem to care about our feedback about the experience we just had. Spent over $400 here and definitely won't be reattending here. Rather go to The Grill instead, wouldn't recommend this place at all.

Had my eye on JSH for a number of years and was able to make it over to this part of Auckland for once so i went for it. <br/><br/>Its a two level restaurant thats beautifully outfitted and very intimate. Service was quick and attentive.<br/><br/>The calamari was different to what you would usually expect but i think the black bean puree and tomatillo salsa actually lift this dish into something else. A mexican inspired dish? Where the calamari is an element of the wider dish. I really liked it.<br/><br/>For the mains there are numerous steak options as well as what you would typically find as alternate mains at a steak house. I saw venison and I was sold. Done rare with cafe de paris butter what more can you want. Perfectly cooked and a fantastic cut.<br/><br/>Highly recommend this place or pravda if you are in wellington as i think they share a menu in the steaks department.
Jenny
me and my husband came here for dinner last night, this is our 3rd time. We ordered the oyster, buffalo mozzarella, the A5 Wagyu, the market fish along with the fried and mac n cheese. Overall the food was good, although we order medium rare steak but the it turned out toward well done. The waitress was good. However, the guy at the counter ruined the experience, I reckon he is the manager. He is really impolite, his face showed that he did not welcome us, he did not even ask how was the meal, this is so unprofessional. This is my 2nd time I have to experience this. I wouldn’t come back if I see his face and manners like this.

If you like a nice steak, this is the place to go! Amazing atmosphere and a great costumer service.<br/>But what makes this restaurant great is definitely the food. The rump, the scotch fillet, the side dishes, even the scallops for entree were top notch.<br/>Highly recommended and a place to return for more amazing meat.

Super busy place yet food came out quite fast! We got the sirloin A5 wagyu and I think scotch or eye fillet.. everything was delicious but wouldn’t recommend the calamari. The wagyu is something you definitely have to share as it gets too rich after a bit. One of the best steak houses I’ve been to. Dessert and drinks was really good too! Would definitely be back!

Came her with the family the steak was very tender and nice, this place is expensive but it’s worth your money. The staff were very friendly and I would recommend coming here for a nice meal

The food and service at this place never seems to fail me. Hands down one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. Enjoyed every dish as usual, I would highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Steak here is perfection. Juicy, flavorful and melts in your mouth. We got an aged steak along with a wagu steak, both were amazing. We couldn't resist getting the truffle macaroni as well. The service was fantastic.

The food and service was exceptional, thank you to the waiter who served us! Your service a knowledge of wines made us experience wonderful. If you love your meat you need to come here, I especially loved the scotch.

5/5 for service, food, and ambience. With a fireplace and the dim lighting, it was the perfect place to go for a romantic dinner. Waiters took my coat and assisted us the whole night. The food was quite quick to come.<br/>We ordered a white bait fritter starter, queen cut rib eye (w/ Cafe de Paris butter), scotch Angus (w/ green peppercorn sauce), and a side of chips with aioli. The white bait fritter was rather small for $30 which was the only down side. The edges were crispy and smokey, the middle was soft and almost gooey which was delicious. The hollandaise sauce was tangy and complemented the fritter well. My rib eye was probably the best steak I've had! It was slow cooked and medium, so it was very tender. However the scotch Angus was a bit tough. Both were evenly seared throughout, even on the edges, seasoning was perfect and they were juicy, even without the accompanying sauces.

Had the wagyu A5 was delicious but had oysters and Alaskan king crab leg for entrees. Everything was delicious but the crab leg was a bit bland and small. The whole experience was awesome and would definitely comeback when i have saved enough money because it is expensive.

Service was great and very friendly. Food was pretty nice. We ordered the steak on medium, but turned out to be more toward well done. The onion ring and wine were quite nice.

Always well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I got the scotch fillet with the truffle sauce and the potato mash. All the flavours just blended in so nicely. Best steakhouse in Auckland! 👌🏼

After making us wait 15 minutes after our scheduled reservation, They told us they double booked our private room on a special occasion for us, it was my sisters graduation. So unprofessional and they made us sit on another table. They didn’t have any compassion for the situation. Not coming back.

Came here recently for my partner's birthday and now he's asking to come back every week! This is a restaurant run by people who know what they're doing and do it effortlessly. The service was impeccable and so was the food. There's not much more to say other than we really hoped it would be the case as it's not cheap, but for certain, you get what you pay for here and it's completely worth it.<br/><br/>My partner enjoyed to no end his steak, with the best sauce I've had probably ever, the spinach and gorgonzola, and a side of truffle mac'n cheese that went along surprisingly well. I went with a regular a la carte and everything was perfect - the steak tartare, the market fish and the cheeseboard for afterwards.<br/><br/>Truly amazing food and looking forward to another dinner here.
Tony Kwok
One of the best steak house in Auckland. You must try kings or queens cut of their signature steak that requires 24 hours prior reservation. The atmosphere is perfect for special occasions or date night.

Food 4, if you are meat lover then go and enjoy meat. <br/>Service 3, the service was not impressed at all, it was like u could get exactly same service in a community cafe. So I’d give 3.5 in total.

We came here for a birthday celebratory dinner as a group of six. The ambience was intimate and authentic. Our waiter (cannot recall his name) looked after us well, he was friendly and energetic. We started off with bread and each of us ordered a steak with accompanying sides to share. I had ordered the wagyu firstlight scotch ($69), which was shown to me in all its raw marbling glory before being cooked to medium perfection. Each bite melted in my mouth and I was in steak heaven. I can say the same for everyone else at our table. <br/><br/>It was overall an enjoyable night.

Easily my favourite steakhouse to go. This is the epitome of great steak in Auckland. Usually try to save visits here for special occasions such as birthdays etc so as not to desensitise myself and become too accustomed to eating their steaks. All the steaks I’ve tried taste amazing, but I usually prefer to go for one of the wagyu options as I prefer the stronger flavour. Asking for fries to be cooked in truffle oil is another plus to add.

I am not usually a big fan of fine fancy dining place but went to Jervois Steak House on my 40th birthday. Yes I am 40... I was a bit sceptical looking at the prices as some goes up beyond $160. Anyway I tried entry level Wagyu Beef Rump it was about $50-60 plus sides. My friend had NZ Scotch at similar price. Now I know what's all the vibe about Wagyu Beef. It's amazing!!!!!!!!!!! Wagyu for the win!

Best steak house in Auckland I suggest. Good for a fancy date or anniversary. The waguy beef has nothing to complain about. Service is no doubt excellent. Staff is friendly and attentive. Definitely will come back again to try the wagyu 12 next time:)

This is the best steak house in Auckland.<br/><br/>The signature steak is still the best. Pre order before you go so they can prepare via sousvide. <br/><br/>Will definite be back again for the best steaks in Auckland.<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Food Quality: 5/5<br/>Food Quantity: 5/5<br/>Presentation: 5/5<br/>Environment: 5/5<br/>Price per person: $100-$200

I have to agree that Jervois Steak House cooks with fresh ingredients. But the poor service is unacceptable. I ordered a rare Wagyu sirloin ($80) and was presented with a medium/ well done steak. When I presented my concerns to the waiter, he left with my plate to show the manager who in turn returned the steak to me because, "the chef says this is rare!"<br/><br/>For an expensive dinner, it's definitely not worth taking the risk of ordering a steak here. Who knows how it will be cooked?<br/><br/>A piece of advice: order a blue steak if you want it cooked medium.<br/>

Best steak house in Auckland. Best service, best quality. We don't even ordered the most expensive cut, but still taste really nice.like 「wow」nice. My daughter usually don't like eat meat, but she loves to eat the steaks here.

Food was amazing. Chefs plater with 3 sides and we could finish it all. Steak were delicious. Would definitely go back. The waiter was amazing as well.

Came here on a whim on New Years eve and it definitely wasn't what I expected for a high ranking, expensive steak house. Firstly they don't answer the phone so we weren't even sure if the place was open or not, neither were they fully booked so I don't understand why they don't take calls. We ordered 2 rumps, one medium one rare, onion rings and mashed potatoes. They bring the raw meat out and ask if it looks okay before they prep which was kind of useless because I asked for half the amount of trimming which they agreed to and then the steak came out with exactly the same amount of fat on it. Also the waitress seemed like she didn't even know what she was doing because she came to the table, stared at it for a few minutes before deciding to serve us our food. She also served us the wrong plates so I winded up eating a rare steak and my partner eating my medium rare. Had to swap the plates around ourselves once we cut in. The onion rings and the mash were the saving grace which was kind of disappointing seeing as though everyone raves about this place. I take my steak very seriously and this place seems more like a facade then a proper steak house. Probably won't return considering the unique service we experienced for a $200 meal. I did appreciate the non-serrated steak knives which actually cut the steak instead of tearing it like other steak houses

Second time here. It’s my birthday so we ordered Wagyu, we wanted medium for the other steak but it was so raw that it was’nt even medium rare, it was just raw.The blonde girl at the front desk was insanely unfriendly , what’s wrong with her, no smile on her face, no “hi” no “thank you.” It’s my birthday I came to your restaurant t have a great time, not to “enjoy” your passive aggressive unfriendliness.
Mathew B
excellent food with really well presented dish, it must be a go to go. i am gonna come back as this place was really good and staff is friendly. the

Excellent service. Have been here twice but still haven’t tried the steak so I must do that next time. The market fish and white bait were pretty good though and very filling so I couldn’t finish it all. Such pretty interiors though.

Went here for dinner with my partner last night. We were seated upstairs with a lovely view on to the street. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. The food however; was crazy good. I had the petite steak (which was more than filling) with the truffle horseradish Bearnaise,  and my partner had a eye fillet with mushroom sauce. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and the sauces tasted incredible. <br/>We paired our steaks with a couple of sides; the kumara & pecans, beans, and beetroot & goat cheese. The beans and beetroot both were delicious. They were simple but a tasty addition to have with the steak. The kumara was very sweet and tasted almost caramelized-  almost like having a dessert!<br/>We were both too full for dessert but will make sure to come back and try them!

Definitely lives up to its saying “The steakhouse to end all arguments”. The steak was filled with flavours. Each and every bite of the steak is tender and juicy. I can’t help but to want it more 😍
Ciarán Reid
Very arrogant staff ruined the experience, specifically the maitre'd.<br/><br/>Arrived at 7.40 as a walk in to a half empty restaurant to be barked at about how they were in the middle of service and could do nothing to accommodate myself.<br/><br/>It was then recommended I try someplace else..

We went to the JSH for pre theatre meal and both decided to have Fillet Steak. Steaks were absolutely fantastic as were the side dishes and Peppercorn sauce was the best I've tasted
Thom
Professional steakhouse, very pleasant dining experience, elegant and intimate. The range of steaks is quite impressive, side dishes and wine choices are quite superb. They know how to make brussels sprout something to drool over. I've only been here twice and sadly have to say last time my precious cut of sirloin was cooked quite unevenly (from the standpoint of a diner in a fine steak restaurant), 25% of it was absolutely well done and a little strip was almost rare. Enjoyable dinner anyway with the quality of the steak and wine.
Medium_Rare
Peculiar experience at one of Aucklands premier steak houses. You definitely cannot go wrong with a steak from Jervois. This review will have two sections. One section which focuses on the actual food and the other on the other factors that determines ones restaurant experience. Focusing on the food, I would highly recommend Jervois for its steaks, if you’re are a cold blooded carnivore or a steak enthusiast then you simply must try Jervois. I found that there was a surprisingly freshness to my steak which highlighted to me why there are varying qualities of steak and such price differences. Their sides were scrumptious the truffle mac and cheese was astounding and the sauce that came with the steaks, accentuated the steak tastes. <br/><br/>In terms of the other factors, I must admit the location of Herne Bay couldn’t have been a better choice. In terms of the interior, i felt like this was exactly what a upper end steak house would look and operate. What did bother me about my experience was that the lady who served us was honestly for a lack of a better term a complete b*tch. I wouldn’t normally say this of people who are in the hospitality industry, having worked in it myself(people have off days I get it, but seriously professionalism especially at a place like Jervois). <br/><br/>However the lady who served us just had a rather rude and obnoxious attitude. In terms of specific examples when we first were seated, one of my dining compatriots wanted to get more clarification about the menu and had some other questions, when we did ask the waitress she was unwillingly to answer some of our question and when she did respond, she ignored some of our question and gave us looks like if we were asking seriously dumb question. I felt that as a table we may have been judged based on our appearance/ discriminated against. Not a nice feeling.<br/><br/>Another one was when we asked if we could have our entrees served with the steak she sighed and gave us a tirade about how thats not how they do things here and that they simply couldn’t change their process. Regardless if the process was valid or not it was the attitude in which she delivered her response which came off as rather vicious. In contrast we had another waiter and he was fabulous. He was everything the waitress wasn’t, he was cheerful, bubbly and most of all he gave us the feeling that he wanted us to be dining in at the restaurant. <br/><br/>Apologies for the poor quality of my photos. <br/><br/>Showstopper: Quality Steaks and the Mac & Cheese, irresistible.<br/><br/>Overall Grade: A- would have been 5/5 if there was better service.
Louise
Really good service with amazing steaks! There’s a nice view of the kitchen from downstairs and also an upstairs and outdoor area, which is nice and cozy as well.<br/>Highly recommend!

I been there last night. It’s quite busy place and good decoration with black colour. I ordered fish steak here because I don’t eat meat. Fish really yummy perfect cooked and I also like side dishes here too.

19 June 2018<br/>Me and my boyfriend decided to try Jervois due to its high rating and reviews. We were first to arrive and was glad they have given me a private corner as I requested when I booked online. <br/><br/>What we ordered:<br/><br/>Starters: Pacific Oysters (6) - $30<br/><br/>Melts in your mouth! Absolutely lovely.<br/><br/>Boyfriend: Wagyu- Robbins Island Sirloin (Medium) - $80 paired with mushroom sauce (complimentary) and steak fries ($8)<br/><br/>It was absolutely delicious, hands down one of the best steaks we’ve both had (neither of us have tried japan wagyu) melts in your mouth and full of flavour<br/><br/>Me: Wagyu- Firstlight Scoth (Medium) - $69 paired with Truffle béarnaise sauce (complimentary) and onion rings ($8)<br/><br/>Amazing! Not as good as my boyfriends but is also wonderful in it’s own way, packed with flavour and melts in your mouth!<br/><br/>Dessert: Chocolate fondant - $17<br/>Delicious! warm and goey perfect for rich chocolate lovers!<br/><br/>Service was amazing! We were served by a a lovely waiter (our bill says his name is Chris) and was very helpful and was well trained. They even gave me a cute little happy birthday plate with a candle for me to blow! <br/><br/>Overall, would come again and would be definitely coming back for JSH prime rib steaks and that japanese wagyu!<br/><br/>5/5 stars

This place is a very good choice for romantic dinner. Look at their ambiance..<br/>Mouth watering steak with red wine are the best combination all the time.. service are excellent! We really enjoyed are time here. Highly recommended!

Attended in a group of 5, all the the steaks were great. However we were extremely disappointed with the service. Have been here a couple times and it is usually good but this was just appalling for the quality they aim to achieve. The waitress was dismissive and rude, we had to wait an obscenely long time to make our order, and when our meals were finished had to wait over 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared which was only done so after we called another staff member and asked for it to be done. We constantly had to hail people down to order drinks and dessert. On top of this when brought to our table some of our steaks and sauces were mixed up. Not normally one to leave a negative review and I am aware how entitled this sounds, however the group was unimpressed and I felt embarrassed having suggested it in the first place. Not what you would expect from a place like this.

Came here for my birthday with my boyfriend and the food was amazing! We both had the eye fillet with a various amount of sides! It was amazing! I also had a the peach caprioska cocktail, it was so nice!

Had the Tasmanian wagyu and steak fries while my dad ordered the duck the steak was cooked to medium well tasted soo good with the bernaise sauce (probably spelled that wrong) really good place for steak in Auckland and definitely worth a try for steak lovers in Auckland

The venue is lovely and the service is amazing. Our waiter was really professional and really added to our experience. I can't fault the food - I had the smoked tomato risotto and the tomatoes were just amazing! We also had really fantastic sides - I can't recommend the truffle mac and cheese enough! The only negative was one of our fish dishes had a couple of really big bones which really should have been found prior to cooking. But other than that, a really fantastic experience!

Long story short, food was exceptional best steakhouse I've eaten at so far. The price indicates that as well - you get for what you paid for. We ordered the gnocci for our entree, a great start to our meal. For the steak we ordered the chefs selection comprising of three cuts. Juicy, tender and well seasoned I didn't want it to end. I would have to say the best steak I've ever eaten. For dessert I ordered the bombe Alaska I wasn't a fan of it which was a let down. I scored a 4.5 as the only negative was the service. The waiter that initially welcomed us I think his name was Dan (can't remember) was really friendly, smiled and showed us to our table until he said someone else was going to serve us. However that waiter whose name I didn't get, wasn't as friendly and had that look like he didn't want to serve us. Like a discrimative look, im not sure if it was because we were brown. But other than that great food and atmosphere, just need to work on your service to provide equal and friendly service for ALL your customers.

Second visit not so good<br/><br/>Bar tender didn't know the difference between creme de methe and de cacao. Plus he claimed he had had the cocktail before but couldn't describe the taste.<br/><br/>Steak ordered rare. Turned up med rare/ medium. I asked the waiter what he thought of the steak, didn't get a response, and didn't get much service after that. When you pay $90 for a steak you don't expect to have to send it back<br/><br/>First time:<br/>Atmosphere 5/5<br/>Service  5/5<br/>Drinks 4.5/5<br/>Steak 5/5<br/>Other food 3.5/5<br/><br/>Had steak carrots whipped potatoes and beetroot. Nice shiraz with dinner and affrogato.<br/><br/>Steak as great as you would expect.<br/><br/>Whipped potatoes a bit dry and not very creamy.<br/><br/>Beetroot to die for. But carrots overcooked and way too sweet. No balance of flavour or texture. Also poor presentation.<br/><br/>Generally great food and especially great steak!

Love the food, best piece of steak in Auckland and the sides are delicious. Love coming here on special occasions. Would have liked the manager or the mid aged man on reception who welcomed us and took our payment at the end to be a little more warm and welcoming. Other than that it was an awesome experience and I would recommend.

Great food but bad service. We were greeted by a wait staff who had a ‘don’t care’ attitude. She did not smile once and was unwelcoming. I think this gave us a bad impression to start with. The rest of the team were reasonably friendly but the table, glasses were dusty like they hadn’t been cleaned in a while. Food was great however it took almost 40 minutes before served. Our waiter was helpful and friendly though. Food itself, my scotch fillet was a little chewy but the kingfish steak which my mum had was amazing. Considering the price I found overall experience rather disappointing. There are other restaurants with better staff who actually look and smile at customers.

Absolutely fantastic food well worth the cost! I recommend the Wagyu scotch, crispy calamari, oysters and all the sides. The desserts were great! I recommend the chocolate fondant with kumara ice cream. The service from staff was the icing on the cake. Thank-you to our waiter, he was great!

This place was absolutely AMAZING. Never have I eaten anything more delicious than the scotch fillet with mushroom sauce - never meaning it was the best thing I have ever eaten. In. My. Entire. Life. Amazing service, our waiter knew absolutely everything about how the meats will best be cooked, accompaniments and wine. Could not recommend more. Beautiful beautiful food!
Scott Cash
The steaks weren't cooked well, chewy and overpriced. The sides are basic and seem more pub food to me. This place is overrated and really just an underwhelming experience.
Darko
Great food and professional service! Amazing ribs. Wish they were part of the menu. Been there few times and they never disappointed. Steaks cooked to perfection. Some tables are a bit too close to each other otherwise perfect!
Cilla
Amazing food and great service! The steak was cooked to perfection and the sides were just right. Loved how our waiter went through the different kind of steaks they offer and explained everything. Best of all showing us the size of the scotch we’d be expecting. Defiantly the best steak house in Auckland, we’ll be back soon. Highly recommended.
Red Bean
Food was flawless. From their steaks to the sides down to desserts. Really perfect. Desperately wanted to give them a solid 5 but the let down was service. Our waiter was cold, had a judge-y look on him and bordered on unpleasant. No matter how beautifully cooked a steak is, poor service can leave a bad taste in the mouth. Flawless food deserves applause though.

Best steak house in Auckland so far. Superior service, great foods. We tried out the smoked bone marrow, calamari, Tasmania and NZ wagyu.. <br/>Will come back to try the signature cut next time.

Will my scale break if I could rate beyond 5? I think my scale broke the moment I put that delicious, juicy 1st bite of steak, recalling now that very minute in slow motion like the Kung Fu Panda as if I've discovered something spectacular! Extremely friendly staff. I was recommended to a dessert Profiteroles, oh boy I was in absolute peace. I mean spiritually peaceful!!<br/>'There and Back Again'.

Fantastic evening. First time here and from the moment we walked in we were greeted by a lovely gentleman then taken to our table and the waiter introduced himself. Couldn't fault the evening one bit, amazing food, great service, well worth the price as you taste the quality all round. Will definitely return

There’s nothing better than a good steak right!? Well, this place I say would be the best in Auckland. <br/>I had the eye fillet. Cooked to my liking. Well done JSH

I don't give 5's very often but this one truly deserves it. Services top notch, presentation of the food was immaculate even a live show. Food was amazing, steak was perfectly cooked the salad was well seasoned. Highly recommended.

Beautiful food, beautiful service. Thank you for such a gorgeous experience. Loved the atmosphere and the steaks were cooked to perfection, didn't have to wait very long for the mains which was amazing.
Jasmine
If you are in Auckland and would like to try a fantastic, tastifull staek you need to make reservations and try their great beef. Service was great and the food is fantastic. We will recommend it if you like great meat!!

Sooooo delicious every time. To ensure the best experience, do yourself a favour and request Seren as your waitress! She is the cutest, and will match your wine perfectly to your steak ❤️ thanks fam

My friend asked me to take her out for the best steak in town so I brought her here.<br/><br/>Ambience is nice, a contemporary setting within a quaint building, slightly "cosy" as well. Service is excellent as it should be for a place such as this.<br/><br/>I ordered the king cut 1824 Grass fed, grain finished signature prime rib with the 24 hours notice and when we got there we had Cafe de Paris butter to accompany it, steak fries, truffle mac n cheese, jsh creamed spinach and onion rings. <br/><br/>The steak was unbelievable and is for the true steak eater. They prepare and serve it with the fat still on, the fact is fat carries flavour and help keeps the meat moist. It easily removed if you're health conscious and/or if that isn't your cup of tea. <br/><br/>Realistically though this place is the embodiment of indulgence/decadence and they pay the utmost respect to meat so if you can't treat yourself for just one spectacular meal then this isn't the place for you.<br/><br/>All of the sides were outstanding as well, a bit on the small side but they were rich and flavourful.<br/><br/>The best steak house in town for me and I will definitely be back.
Tim
10/10<br/>Incredible cocktails, steak, sides and dessert<br/>Best cocktail - dark and stormy<br/>Best side - Candied kumara<br/>Best waitress - Sienna (apologies if I've spelt your name wrong)<br/>Great way to celebrate a birthday<br/>Not crazy expensive, but not cheap. If you're looking for a Denny's steak go to Denny's.
TonyF3
Not a big steak fan but got shouted a meal here by a dear friend--- and oh myyyy. The wagyu from Tasmania was incredible. The oysters were divine, alaskan crab was fantastic and even the sides like mashed potato and brocollini were unforgetable. Service was first rate- friendly, warm but not pretentious or stiffling.

Came here for Valentine's Day, the steak tartare is AMAZING. Had the calamari as a main which is blasphemous at a steak house I know but I ate half of my partners steak which was perfect. The decor is so romantic and I love how it's quite dim inside, overall We had a lovely evening and can't wait to come again.
Itslydialee95
Awesome lunch consisting of rump steak, bone in eyefillet, creamed spinach and Brussel sprouts with lardons accompanied with 2 glasses of wine all for $85 with the 'special lunch' deal that is on at the moment.<br/>Great portions! The only reason why I would not give it a full 5/5 was because my medium-rare rump steak was a bit on the dry side. Next time I will get a more tender cut.<br/>Ambience I give a solid 5/5, upstairs dining room is warm and welcoming with the fireplace, perfect place for a date night.
ChefZ
Used to work here and dined here twice. A slightly affordable version of The Grill by Sean Connolly. Some amazing meats selection & their THC béarnaise is the best. The bone marrow is just amazing, esp with the lime gel. If given a choice, a way better option than The Grill.
Marc Guppy
Make no mistake about it, this is a very fine restaurant. We wandered in late on a Sunday night with no booking and they accommodated us with a minimum of fuss. The service was excellent and the food was tremendous. The only niggle was the wine list and the simply over the top pricing of many quite humble wines. When the final tote is 60% wine and 40% all the food either you have a problem or the pricing is not too good (thankfully it was the latter). We will still return but pls have another look at the list and add a few more reasonably priced options.
Rochelle Holland
Brilliant service, very professional and friendly staff. Came here for a special birthday dinner and they served and cut the cake for us free of charge, and kindly took photos of our group. <br/>The food is worth the price. I had the calamari entree which was delicious and a good amount. For main I had the free ranch chicken with a side of carrots. It was a beautiful meal, really flavoursome and juicy. The people who had steak said it was brilliant. <br/>I had a blueberry cocktail which I enjoyed a lot. <br/>Unfortunately our table was by the door so I got a bit cold when people came in and out, and it was a bit close to the front counter. But apart from that everything was perfect. <br/>
Nick O'Neill
In my opinion the best steak restaurant in auckland. The steak is always perfectly cooked. But what beats that are the accompaniments... ask the waiter to recommend the right sauce, sides and wine to match... you will not be disappointed. The staffs knowledge of wine and food is top notch.

This place, hands down, has provided the best steak I have had (just as well with these prices).  Definitely on the upscale side.  I'm also not one to drink alcohol but next time I intend on ordering the wine to refresh the pallet, that way make every bite worth it.  Did spend about $210.00 here for two of us. <br/><br/>THE FOOD <br/><br/>Bone Marrow (3/5) - This one melts in your mouth.  My rating for this dish is only because I was bitter about one solid part in one of my bones.  It is normal for the fibers to join and harden.   I probably wouldn't get this dish again BUT it is definitely worth a try. <br/><br/>Baked Candied Kumara, Pecans (5/5) - This dish was perfect!!! Warning, it is extremely hot at first so be careful. The texture and taste goes perfectly with steak.  <br/><br/>JSH creamed spinach (5/5) -  Cannot fault this dish one bit.  Compliments the whipped potato.<br/><br/>Whipped Potato Puree (5/5) - This side you cannot go without, unless you are allergic to potato.  <br/><br/>Onion Rings (2/5) - Hmmmm I'm not weather it was that the onion rings bad or that the other dishes were so good that this dish was worthless in comparison.  Either way I prob wont order this one again.  <br/><br/>Sirloin 9+ Firstlight New Zealand (7/5) - First time I rated a dish this highly, it melts in your mouth, flavorful... organism for the taste buds. <br/><br/>King Cut (6/5) - I ordered this 24 hours prior to booking (as stated on site), and I have to say another perfect cut. It'll be hard to taste another steak and be satisfied again.  <br/><br/>THE ENVIRONMENT (4/5) <br/>I liked the acoustics of the room, despite how close tables are, allowed for easy conversation.  The lighting was great.  The place is a little upscale so me in a hoodie and shorts might not have been appropriate (I'm rebellious like that). All in all like the environment.  <br/><br/>THE SERVICE (5/5)  <br/>Our waiter was on point.  Very satisfied with his service.   I hope he got my tip.  <br/><br/>WORTH IT? <br/>Hell yeah!!! Steep on the prices but def worth it.
Carina Chang
had queen cut signature prime rib which is huge for girls. Staff said it is slow cooked for 8hrs and its still medium inside. Also recommend the smoked bone marrow served with toasted bread chips. They are so matched. creamy mushroom and green salad with mozarella are both tasty sides to choose.
S&G Take Auckland
Quite simply one of the best steak places i've been to.<br/><br/>The waitress was super friendly and really made the meal special. She recommended what we should order, and was highly knowledgeable on the cuts of meat.<br/><br/>The steak was cooked to perfection, and the fat on the meat was like butter, you could eat every part of your steak. <br/><br/>Sauces were lovely.<br/><br/>The only dish i didn't enjoy was the skillet mac and cheese ham. I found it very salty and didn't enjoy the ham part of it much.<br/><br/>Overall excellent dining experience.

AMAZING!<br/><br/>Our group of 8 ordered entree, mains and desserts and everything was just excellent. Entrees were large. Steak was cooked absolutely perfect. Side dishes were generous and there was a good selection of different sides which was great. Alot better than you usual "duck fat chps and seasonal veges". The creamy spinach - yum ! I had the earl grey dessert and that was just as great as everyting else<br/><br/>Service was ok. At one point a steak was brought out to one of our party to approve of the particular steak that was being  cooked for him, which was very cool.<br/><br/>Very small restaurant. Would be nice not to have to be seated so close to the next table but other than that the whole experience is definitely worth the traffic battle to get there and the price.
Samantha Young
Just a little bit fancy! Staff are super polite and professional. Our waitress took our orders based on her memory skills, we were kind of skeptical about whether she would remember everything. She ended up forgetting our entree of bread which was too late as our mains were coming out. I ordered the Pork Belly and everyone ordered sirloin steaks and the wagyu steak. Steak was amazing! Heaps of flavour and cooked perfectly. Pork belly Crackle had that huge crunch noise that made everyone look. You don't need to double up on side dishes as the amount of meat you get is enough! One of the waiters bought out the slice of meet raw to show us what he was about to cook which was rather cool. Overall a really good experience.
EpiCurious
Well the steak wasn't *quiet* as good as I'd been expecting - but it was pretty damn close. In saying hat I'd also declined the Wagyu due to not being able to bring myself to pay that price at the time - maybe one day.... Service wise - it was a excellent , and the creamed spinach is a must try.
Sades
Atmosphere was great, service was fantastic and oh my god the steak was so delicious and perfectly cooked!!! And can i just say we usually go elsewhere to get dessert when we eat out but you guys had the bombe Alaska ... which was bomb! We will be back !

Steak:4.0/5.0 we ordered two steaks they all taste good. But the onion ring omg it's over cooked harder than stone I will give 1.0/5.0<br/>Service: 0.5/5.0 from my receipt, I found the waitress name, ok she is Kristy. I don't know what happened on her. Honestly, we feel really uncomfortable and disappointed through her service. Maybe discrimination maybe just her personal style. But all other staff are kind and friendly. Whatever, we will never come again.

Awesome ambience outside with great service and yummy food! Similar style food to The Grill by Sean Connolly. If your a steak fan, you have to try this place. Flavours are all there and if they have the truffle mash on the menu, I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed.

We came on a saturday night for dinner and had booked the signature prime rib (queen size) a week beforehand, then ordered the nz scotch wagyu, caesar salad and mac'n cheese. The steaks were divineee, my husband and I love the wagyu more than the prime rib though. They came in on a big plate splattered with red wine jus, and sides of porcini and horseradish sauce. Caesar salad was satisfactory but the anchovies are quite salty. Mac' n cheese is good too. Keen to try dessert but was too full from all that food. Would come back again when I have steak cravings moment.
Athena
I rang them to book for a special occasion, the guy on the phone was not the most polite person id ever spoken to. He was impatient and abrupt. Anyhow we arrived on the day. The service was impeccable, the waiter was helpful and friendly, the food was really just divine. I can not fault a single item! I would definately go back there again.
Justin Zhang
Dined there last night. So many dramas. First when I waved at the waitress she shook her head at me, I was like..... that's a first. Then when we made the order she was moving around, that's a second first. Gosh I could only hope she got it right. So I asked her again to make sure she can bring the bread sooner as my partner was starving. But the steak came after 20 minutes but still no bread. So I asked her and she said it will be coming without any sign of willingness to apologize. Then I can't help it but ask her name because I was going to make a complaint. Things then started to get better as she probably figured it out too. <br/><br/>I have been to Jervois for at least 5 times and I don't even live in Auckland. It was all perfect. But this time it is not just bad but strange, in a funny way it feels like I must have done something terrible to this lady Christine before to deserve this(like I was a German and we were dining in Warsaw after WWII). <br/><br/>So anyone can recommend a good steakhouse in Auckland? As I am not going back again.
Ashlene Cheryl Cardoza
Went here on our anniversary and to sum up the experience in one word - Excellent!<br/><br/>It was easy to book online and I could even reserve the signature prime rib online with ease. The service was impeccable. The food was simple but absolutely delicious. I would highly recommend the signature prime rib even if it means calling a few days early to 'reserve' it. It was divine! The meat (i like mine medium) was so tender and juicy with the right amount of fat. My husband ate the wagyu which was also cooked to perfection. We ordered creamed spinach and mac n cheese on the side. I wish JSH atleast threw in some potatoes with the steak. Without sides, all you get is one really big plate with a lone steak sitting there.<br/><br/>Didn't have room for dessert. Meal for two with 2 drinks + oysters + 2 steaks with sides = $200
S B
Excellent service with a waiter not far away; easy to book online; excellent selection of entrees, mains and desserts with a good selection of accompanying wines, and a compliment birthday celebration plate with chocolate and candle..plenty of parking close by in the evening - recommended.  Def will be back in the near future!
James
Best steakhouse in Auckland hands down. It's just up the road from me so I have been quite a few times. Every time it's a full on treat however. Call in and order the signature steak 24hrs in advance! You won't be disappointed.
Mrs Puddingcake
Delicious.<br/>Fantastic attentive service, so nice and warm inside which was appreciated because it was freaking freezing tonight!<br/>We got calamari and the Hapuka carpaccio, which were fresh and light and just delicious. Honestly, basically no words.<br/>We shared the rib eye and this cute butcher man came and carved it at our table.<br/>So full. So happy. Shared the tamarillo creme brûlée, left so stuffed and pleased about it.

Arrived there on a Friday night the 26th August 2016 at around 10:30PM.We did not have a booking (two of us) but we were unshed upstairs to a small two-person table. While my wife and I are soft-spoken and not used to shouting at each other, the human tendency to talk over the table next to you got a little too much so I moved my chair from the opposite side of the table to sit closer with my wife (who had forgotten her glasses and couldn't read the menu).I had just let go of the chair and some young waitress shouted and wagged her finger in disapproval! There was CLEARLY enough space for patrons to maneuver past my relocated chair.Everyone stopped talking and starred at us! My wife is not "white" and this made for even MORE awkward glances at our disgusting behaviour that we did not understand!Feeling EXTREMELY outcast we opted to leave the restaurant to get some most amazing Indian takeaways only a few doors down.If you are a "ponsy" living in Ponsonby then you probably know of the racial rules opposed upon "outcasts".SHAME ON YOU!

Yes they have a $140 steak on the menu.<br/><br/>Yes, I have tried it.<br/><br/>No, I would not order it again.<br/><br/>Too fatty. I get that the flavor comes from the fat, but it passes a point of being palatable.<br/><br/>EVERYTHING else was good. I will be going back next week for a work function and will order one of the more "regular" items on the menu to obtain a fair sample of what they offer and come back and edit this review accordingly.

I'd heard about the Sunday Roasts at JSH and being a fan of roast lunches/dinners thought it was worth giving a try. Obviously a lot of people wouldn't be interested in paying $40 pp. for a roast meal that could easily be prepared at home, however for me personally it was worth not having to put in all of the effort cooking all of the side dishes- let alone the main roast meat. The Sunday we dined there, it was pretty quiet and the waitstaff were attentive. There was enough food for the two of us, however I do think a grown man would still be pretty hungry after this meal. We also treated ourselves to dessert which was a chocolate fondant- very delicious. I am keen to go to JSH for dinner and see what the food and dining experience is like.
Monalisa Anne Cabriga Santos
I have seen great reviews about JSH and was not disappointed when I finally had the chance to dine here. We ordered the 900g John Dee ribeye to share upon recommendation of the staff. We were not sure whether this is something for us so she brought the 900g steak (uncooked) on our table to show us how big it is and how small the bone was as we were worried the bone might be big and there will be less meat but it was up to our liking so we ordered it anyways. We were advised exactly how long it will take to cook and we were kept in the loop and staff made sure that we are attended to or whether there is anything they could help us with while waiting. When the steak came, we had a personal butcher come up to slice up the steak in front of us which added a personal touch to our service. Honestly THE BEST STEAK I have ever had in my entire life and would go back here again for sure. As what we expected, this was a bit on the pricey side but definitely worth every single dollar. We also ordered the candied kumara as a side thinking it was some sort of kumara chips when it was BETTER than that. Definitely would recommend to try this place out at least once in your life and I am sure you will be back for more.
Rachel Benge
Has to be one of the best places I had ever been to that serves really good oysters, hands down. Eye filet was fantastic, Veges were fresh and tasty. They do a very nice Parsnip Purée and have heard they have a great dessert menu 👍

Is it possible to give a 6/5 on zomato?! I've eaten out a fair bit - obviously, and I can hand on heart say this is the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. This was the experience of a life time. It may sound a little over zealous but no let me tell you I am very serious with the love I feel for this place. The decor is perfect, the service is amazing, the menu is all I have ever dreamed of and most importantly the food... Well I have no words.. It was just.. Oh my god. Please please please if you eat beef/steak/red meat, come on down here. The price is high but it's understandable when you're eating grade 9/10 wagyu steak! Mmmm I have had dreams about this place since I've been. I am definitely coming back!! 🐮
Michael Aholelei
Had to have the Wagyu... what an experience. Next stop - Kobe. Would recommend everyone trying it atleast once. Service was great. Will definitely be back again soon

What a fantastic steak house this is! We both had the prime rib queen cut (which we had to pre-order 24 hours in advance) It was an exceptional steak, cut like butter and literally melted in the mouth. We also enjoyed the brussel sprouts (me for the first time ever!) with garlic and onion and the chips. Dessert's looked incredible. The white chocolate creme brûlée was sensational, rich and creamy with a great crack of caramel on the top. The Bombe alaska was very rich, a little too rich for my partner but the meringue was superb. The service we received from Daniel was absolutely first class and we would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a great steak.
Samantha Gemmell
Hands down the best steak I've had! We ordered the wagyu scotch fillet medium rare and it was honestly cooked to perfection. Although it's on the expensive side it's definitely worth it! I also got the béarnaise sauce with truffle in it which was delicious!!! For sides we ordered the creamed spinach, candied kumara and onion rings. All the sides were super tasty! We really wanted to try the Mac n cheese but they didn't have it so I will definitely try that next time. Highly recommend this place :-)

Our first visit to jervois steak house. The experience was so good! The steaks were very delicious. Their side orders were wonderful too! I especially love their kumara purée and spinach!<br/>Will definitely return!
Chops
We had dinner at Jervois and had a good time. It is an awesome building to eat at with all the brick, service is really good! confident and knowledgeable and able to put up with a real unreasonable drunken customer and was able to control the nutcase in a professional manner ( no it wasnt me or my partner )<br/>The meat was good but not as good as I expected in all honesty. I will be back to try some other dishes .
Christian
The best steak house in Auckland in my opinion. Meat is perfectly aged and then cooked. Side dishes are hearty and satisfying. They also use Global knifes as cutlery to match the quality of meat. Brilliant!
DontScrewWihMaFood
The service was great and they really out did themselves with the steak. Finally a restaurant that I would say I got more than what I paid for. It is a good place for both small and casual as well as group dinners . Thanks to the team and chef I am sure to return

Is one of my fav restaurants in Auckland, all the beefs are perfectly cooked and seasoned. Variety of sauces and delicious sides. Wine list is absolutely fantastic. The most amazing thing is the service! I love to feel welcome in that restaurant every time I go. I definitely recommend this place.

Came here last night for the old man's birthday after being down at the pub for a few lazies. <br/><br/>I have lived in Herne Bay for years and this was my first-time. Amazing steak great service. Could not fault it. <br/><br/>Will have to bring the misses up next time.
Emma W
I was rather excited to dine here but left disappointed. The steak was good but I feel I have had better at a lower price. All of the sides we ordered were not good, they were overly salty. I understand the need to season food but the amount  of salt made some sides almost inedible.
Foodie#1
Absolutely impeccable red meat house. Their Wyagu hanging tender has to be the most flavoursome and tender meat I've had anywhere in NZ. While not the cheapest, its you enjoy every second in this place with excellent service and fantastic food.
Jayne Rowley
Second time to JSHand wasn't disappointed. The best steak I've eaten and sauces and sides were amazing too. I had the eye fillet on the bone which was cooked to perfection and the truffle and Syrah sauce was amazing!! Shout out to the Mac and cheese fritters. Will be back
Miguel Sanchez Robertson
We popped in for a late lunch before heading to the airport and were not disappointed. I had he petit eye fillet and my dining companions had the 8 score wagyu hanger.<br/><br/>The service and food were amazing - I would have to say this was the best steak of my life .<br/><br/>Seriously awesome food.
Kat M
Staff were really professional and friendly. I had the prawn chop salad for starters, and it was amazing! One of the best salads I've ever eaten. For mains my partner had the grade 9 wagyu, which he's always wanted to try. Very pricey at $130 and the texture and flavour was very rich and fatty, quite difficult to eat more than a few mouthfuls. The waitress said afterwards they usually tell people that people that it is almost like eating butter it is so rich, however she forgot to tell us (he probably wouldn't have ordered if she did). I had the scotch fillet which was very nice. The sides were good - mashed potato & asparagus & Beetroot feta salad. Overall a great experience at a classy restaurant. Will definitely be returning!

After many years JSH still does some of the best steaks in Auckland but outside of steaks, the food seemed somewhat dated. My crab cocktail entrée had a smidgeon of crab and the rest was thawed prawns - like something from the 80s. The cheese risotto main had way too much cheese so it was claggy and no delicacy to the flavour.  And JSH's décor is tired. Dark furniture and lighting, tables with surface damage carefully covered by condiment bottles - and you know that once the loos have lost their lustre, it's time for a makeover (Prego could take a hint). Really nice staff though.
Rajeev Dadhe
Top quality Steak restaurant in town . Select your dish with care. The quantity can be too much for you. Luckily they have different sizes of steak choices. Different choices of sauce available. Best ask the waiter what goes best with which mains. <br/>As starter they serve bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar dip. <br/>For Indian visitors, ask the steak to be grilled medium rare. Cooking to well done makes it like leather.<br/>Worth visiting for steak lovers.
Lovely Maralit
I enjoyed my lamb :) credits to the chefs and I love the kumara mash! Staff are very welcoming. The ambience would be better if the music choice suited the place. But I would definitely come back.
Kate Irvine
I have had many steaks in my time but this place is the best by far. Top quality meat at its finest, perfectly cooked and amazing sauces to match. Service was faultless, waiters really knew their menu well which is always fantastic.
Dan Meadows
Can't praise this place highly enough. Wife took me for my birthday. Service was exceptional from walking in to leaving staff didn't miss a beat. They new the menu well and were confident making recommendations on food and wine. I had my first Wagyu here, a sirloin with a marble score 8+ and I now understand what all the fuss us about. Chef checked in personally to make sure I enjoyed the steak. Be aware whilst it's not silly money it is "appropriately" priced for the quality of service and food budget at least $300 for a couple if you want to really enjoy the experience

A jumping little place, I found the service and the interior very classy. My steak was excellent, and we had a wonderful, friendly waitress who took my coat and hung it up. Cute! I”m a sucker for a place with white linen tablecloths. It’s pricey, as it should be, but I’d definitely go back. Sarah Forsyth #g4

What is there to say - stop looking, you've found it. This place is simply amazing. <br/><br/>Service - 5 star <br/>Food - 5 star<br/><br/>Even my vegetation wife enjoys Jervois as it has great options for her. <br/><br/><br/>

Has got to be my firm favourite for the best steak house in Auckland. Had the aged fillet steak and it was absolutely mouthwatering, the service is second to none and I the experience is definitely something else! #g1

I am lucky that every now and then I get to go to fancy restaurant's for work and Jervois Steak House is a firm favourite. I went there today for lunch with my boss and team member as it was my team member's last day. The guys had oysters to start, they are not my thing but my boss said they were amazing! Next we all ordered a main and some sides, I had the sirloin steak, and our sides were mac and cheese fritters, truffle fries and kumara with pecan. Very carb heavy but amazing!!!<br/>For dessert I had the chocolate fondant, which was gooey in all the right places. An amazing lunch with attentive service, always a pleasure!

Been here few years back and came back found out that they changed to a new menu. Had a great experience dining in Jervois. It gives me whole new experience everytime I come and service was on point!

Came here on a reasonably quiet Wednesday evening. The staff were very nice, really professional but with a good sense of humour - the waitress we had was lovely. We pre-ordered the slow roasted Signature Prime Rib in both queen (300g) and king cut (450g) and also got the Eye Fillet on the Bone. The prime ribs were amazingly tender and the eye fillet cooked perfectly - could not have asked for better steaks. Definitely recommend the Syrah & truffle jus - could not get enough of it! :) For sides we ordered the baked kumara (quite sweet but tasty), sauteed baby silverbeet (really nice garlicy flavour), mac & cheese fritters (very tasty), creamed spinach (really nice creamy flavour), potato mash (really good) and the onion rings (sooo crunchy - loved them!). We finished off with the famous chocolate fondant which was perfectly cooked with a delicious rich molten chocolate centre and was served with a vanilla bean ice cream and a berry jam. I will be back for more! :)

Boy-oh-boy was this place good. A very approachable fine dining kind of restaurant in the sense that it doesn't feel overly posh and stuffy. The steak, of course, is awesome. You should try this place even If you're not a big meat eater as there are plenty of other things to enjoy on the menu. I ordered a medium-rare Jervois cut eye fillet on the bone. The servers really know their stuff so always ask for suggestions. For sides, we ordered the Mac and cheese fritters, truffle steakhouse fries, onion rings, and candied kumara- next time I would order two-three sides to share between two and include some greens! Choosing the sides were just as important as the main in terms of making the meal flavorful and memorable. We had the key lime pie for dessert...of course it was good. Will be coming back.

One of my most favourite places in Auckland. Always great service, great food, perfectly cooked. Worth every cent. The atmosphere is always great. Love their signature steak, it just melts in your mouth. Also, the roasts they do in winter are pretty awesome and we'll priced.

This place is immaculate from top to bottom. The staff. The food. The sauces and drinks it is almost impossible to fault. I can't think of anywhere else that I would trust with a steak so readily. My only qualm is that I didn't carry enough cash to tip the exceptional waiter last time I was there.
Natalie
Hubby and I left the restaurant feeling duly satisfied and content with what was probably the best steak meal we have tasted thus far! I ordered the Wagyu sirloin; hubby got the rump steak - and they were delicious! The service was impeccable too; she was lovely and very helpful. We will definitely be back there when we feel like some good steak! Highly recommended for fine diners alike!

We prepared to dine with a couple of friends at Jervois where it serves special Sunday roast beef, but one of them fell ill and only my wife & I turned up for the dinner. <br/><br/>Coming with 5 good-sized slices of roast beef were Yorkshire puddings, crispy duck fat spuds & roast veggies. The beef was succulent. (After we finished the first piece, the rest had already cool down. But this wasn't the fault of Jervois.) The sides were all lovely - the Yorkshire pud was my favourite. Honestly, we couldn't finish the last slice. However, we still couldn't resist the temptation of chocolate fondant which was really wonderfully made with what Simon Gault (owner) used to describe as "chocolate oozing out." (Food - 5/5; Service - 5/5; Ambience - 4/5)<br/>(N.B. Dijon Mustard @$2.50 !)

It was a wonderful experience, the lady who served us was very friendly and explained the menu. I ordered medium rid eye, and it was perfectly cooked. Even though, the side dishes are one-person-portion, we only ordered two sides for sharing between three people, but that was enough for us. The source ... So good! I normally eat my steak with a bit of sea salt , but, wow, their steak source very ..."interesting" and wonderful taste. It's a shame that I didn't try out their dessert ,next time I will try :) and Yes, I will go back again !

Another fabulous meal at the steak house. <br/>Scotch fillet for two. Cooked to perfection. <br/>Carved at the table. Sides to die for. Perfect Paelo dinner too, if that's your thing!<br/>
The White Wolf
The finest steakhouse in New Zealand, and maybe the Southern Hemisphere.<br/><br/>I'm not one to rate an establishment without carefully considering all aspects of the dining experience first, and there's no mistake with the perfect score I've decided to give Jervois Steak House. I was actively looking for something to critique, but the opportunity never presented itself. If Michelin stars were given in New Zealand, JSH would be a recipient of at 'least' one star. <br/><br/>I had only ever heard and read good reviews on JSH, and from the moment I arrived, I was confident that I would be validating those opinions. <br/><br/>We arrived to no loud music blaring or vibrant lights, but a quaint two-storey building in Auckland's most elite suburb, Herne Bay, private and dimly-lit with just the outline of the restaurant's name illuminated to identify it. Opening the door is a strange experience. Strange, in a sense that I feels so "homely", and that feeling doesn't go away for the entire dining experience. <br/><br/>I realize I could write a mini-novel on the experience, which I did, unfortunately far-exceeding the allowed word limit for this review, so I'll summarize with the following:<br/><br/>Building/setting - the temperature was perfect, dimly-lit, and the décor was exceptionally tasteful. There was a small private dining group sitting nearby that were celebrating a business deal and making a bit of noise, but that's nit-picking and it didn't impede our dining experience. <br/><br/>Service - first-class. We were seated straight away, the waiter was very professional, friendly, attentive, had memorized the menu and was able to provide recommendations when asked. He ensured that drinks were topped up and asked on a couple of occasions how our meals were going (in a non-intrusive manner). <br/><br/>Food - world-class. I consider myself a foodie and have been to countless restaurants, across many countries, and can say that this restaurant is one of the best I have ever been to. We ordered rump steaks all-round with BBQ sauce on the side, peanut slaw, steakhouse fries, truffle steak fries, mac & cheese fritters and also rocket lettuce salad with aged manchego cheese. Nothing but excellence, even the sauces are unique and most likely made in-house. <br/><br/>Price - very reasonable. For the amount of food and quantity of drinks we ordered between three people, the bill was only a little over $200. Without the fine-wine, beer and soft drinks, the bill would've been much less, and that's saying something for such an unrivaled dining experience. <br/><br/>Do yourselves a favor and make a booking. If you're a foodie, JSH should be a top priority!

I've eaten here twice now and both times I've been nothing but impressed at the consistently high quality food and wine they serve. <br/><br/>In many steak houses, usually the steaks and the sauces are the stars of the show, but here, every single side dish is a star in it's own right. Our table ordered 8 different sides to share around, and each one was as impressive as the other. My favourite side is the candied kumara with pecans, and my favourite sauce the truffle chipotle and horseradish bearnaise.<br/><br/>Service was excellent and the wait staff were well trained. <br/>Would definately go back again, every night if I could.
VinZ
From start to finish the meal was fantastic. I would like to particularly thank our server  who was very professional, informative and attentive.<br/><br/>Following our drinks order the waiter showed us a display of all the different steaks on offer including information on their origins and recommendations.<br/><br/>I had the lamb chops whilst my partner had the eye-fillet steak. We both agreed that the steak was by far the best we have ever, truly melt in the mouth!!<br/><br/>The only concern i have is about the tipping (wow i do sound like a cheapskate here :) ) but I just want to stressed out that it's not kiwi custom to give tipping, don't get me wrong, i don't mind giving the tip, the service was brilliant, but because this is not our tradition, so it's better to make it more discreet, coz i felt a little awkward. <br/>why i say a little more discreet, because you surely make it very explicit on the bill, it says "not include service" and you give me a pen to write down how much tip i have to give.<br/><br/>anyhoo great restaurant, marvelous food, Superb Vibes.

We went to Jervois Steak House to celebrate my husband's birthday and we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. We shared a steak tartare as an Entree and it was delicious. Seasoning was a bit salty but delicious anyway. I then had the Petit Eye Fillet, juicy, tender and perfectly cooked, whereas my husband got a Black Angus Fillet that he loved. Dessert (chocolate fondant) was perfect too, and our waitress did an amazing job, chatting with us and making us feel at home. We definitely recommend and will be back.

AMAZING! Everything was on point. Food and service! Came here with the girls to celebrate exams and assignments being over and truly got taken care of. Got from a grabone voucher and the place defitnitely exceeded our expectations. Everything was perfect from the perfectly cooked juicy steak to the selection of sides that we all shared with each other. Our voucher came with a wine aswell but because none of us were wanting the wine they offered to make us a non alcoholic fruit cocktail instead which was absolutely delicious and fresh. We were also treated at the very end with complimentary truffles that said Congratulations! In chocolate syrup in the middle of our plate. That was the cherry on top and we were so surprised that they went to all that effort for grab one voucher customers. Everything presented beautifully and venue was cosy. Service was beyond perfect. Can't wait to come back!

We ate here on Sunday 14 June. There was a roast dinner deal so we decided to have this, followed by two desserts. The food came quickly (probably because it was a popular choice and they had it ready to dish-up) generous in servings and quite tasty. Fantastic gravy. The desserts - a cheesecake and chocolate figs were nicely presented and equally very delicious. I wanted to try some other desserts but will have to wait until the next time.<br/><br/>Great, friendly and attentive service worthy of a tip but the room could have done with a bit more lighting.
House Of Eats
Calling all meat lovers! If you want meat - youll get meat, thou it comes with a price tag. We came here for my brother & sister n laws wedding anniversary dinner. I ordered the tar tar for starters and the lamb rump, it was juicy and tender. My hubby was disappointed the restaurant had given the last of their oysters to their sister restaurant at the viaduct. No starter for him then. He ended up just ordering the king crab straight away as he was craving seafood, a bit odd knowingly we are in a restaurant that predominately sells meat. Anyways moving on - I had food envy after trying a mouthful of the wagyu. Its was super succulent, full of flavour but super rich, I wouldnt recommend the current portion to a female. My father n law is a big eater and he couldnt finish off his food. If your going to pay a high price for one the finest cuts, you dont want any wastage. So in that case I wish a smaller portion be on the menu, so I can enjoy this dish myself. Next.....Slight let down in the cocktail department, the drinks were below ok. I was quite shocked considering a Master Chef owns this joint, thought it might be better. Anywho Pressing on - the service in the beginning was great - especially when they give you a meat lesson on all the types of cuts of meat there are to choose from, but slowly to the end of our dining session I could see the waiter was not happy there was a toddler in the restaurant. For that reason - I do not encourage a family that includes little ones to come here. Rather a couples night or a group of adult friends instead.
Moira McFarland
Great steaks but maybe if you like medium rare, ask them to have it a bit more in the rare side. Mine was just a bit too cooked for my preference. They are quite busy on a Friday so book in advance. Service was a bit slow but maybe because it was really busy. Pricey but tastes good so not complaining. They have a good selection of wines and staff are very polite. Great for date nights!
Donna&Shane
If it's steak you want then this IS the place to go... Excellent service with excellent quality of food..... Yum... Very fancy and expensive but worth it when you have a craving for protein!
Laura Ransome
All I can say it wow! Was a absolute amazing time. Originally I was worried about the price and size of the steaks seen when I googled the place but all I could fit in is a steak and a side. I had eye fillet on the bone and it was a good Portion and cooked to perfection, best steak I've ever eaten. The service was wonderful, all friendly, professional staff really new there stuff! 10/10 would recommend ! <br/><br/>Ps. If getting fries get the truffle fries much better than the regular
Lena Guo
Jervios is mine and my partners regular. We like to visit the restaurant at least once a month. We cannot fault the place on anything. Even though some times the restaurant is extremely busy and we have to wait a little while for our food, we are always compensated by the amazing service and food expertise.<br/><br/>My favourite dish on the menu is the Steak Tartare, it's a must every time. Freshly ground top grade steak served with fresh herbs and seasoning, topped with raw egg. Absolutely sensational.
Noms Burger
Every time I dine at JSH I come away satisfied.<br/>The steaks here are simply the best. I highly recommend the signature prime rib, which you have to order 24 hours ahead of time because its slow cooked for about 12. This results in an extremely tender steak and fat just melts in your mouth, the queen cut was plenty with all the other dishes.<br/><br/>The sauces are jam packed full of flavour, the side dishes are great especially the candied kumara, plus I recommend the calamari schnitzel as a starter.<br/><br/>So if you have a special occasion and are looking for the top streaks around, I highly recommend this place.
Andy Thomson
This is my favorite restaurant in Auckland, not because the food is the best or where it is. It is because you always know you will get a better than average meal and you can guarantee that. Consistently very good food and service. Last time we were there was for my birthday with 11 friends everyone had a good meal and the cost wasn't too hefty. Although when you spend over $100 per head I wouldn't expect to have to pay a charge for brining our own birthday cake. Although it didn't dampen our night one bit. Keep it up!
Michael Sorensen
JSH is the best restaurant in Auckland. The Calamari Schnitzel entree, followed by the Petite Angus Steak with Peppercorn sauce, and candied kumara on the side - Will not disappoint!
Britney Beeby
I wish I could rate Jervois Steakhouse higher than a '5'.<br/><br/>There is no restaurant in Auckland, nor the world, that makes food this good.<br/><br/>As a regular patron, I always have the rump steak. It's a large portion, and is cooked to perfection. The sides and sauces are unbelievable - the candied kumara, and mac and cheese fritters are amazing. Definitely order the simple Syrah, as well as the garlic butter - they compliment the steaks wonderfully.<br/><br/>I can't rave about this food, the impeccable service or the kind, attentive staff enough. <br/><br/>Writing this review is making my mouth water!

Went here for my partners birthday. I had made the booking well in advance asking for a special table and telling them about the occasion. We were seated in a remote corner next to a drafty window, not a good start. As soon as we had sat down we were told that the oysters, Black Angus and signature prime rib would not be available. On the plus side our waiter was very cheerful and knowledgeable but unfortunately it all went down hill from there. We asked to share the Trio of Zen-Noh A5 wagyu entree ($37) but were told that its almost impossible to share as its only bite sized...seriously? At that price, wow. So we shared the steak tartare which was nice and came out within 15mins, we weren't gives any side plates so had to make do hovering above the serving plate. My partner had pre-ordered the signature steak the night before so I went with the eye fillet on the bone. And then we waited. For an hour. We counted no less than 3 tables that were seated after us and yet served first. The waiter apologised several times and told us that the food was "just a couple of minutes away" apparently there was a mix up with our order. Finally our mains arrived, the 'signature' dish was literally a slab of steak on a plate, no horseradish or even a garnish in sight. We had ordered 2 sides but the serves are so small I'd recommend 3-4 for 2 people ($7.50 each). Although my steak was cooked well (medium rare) it was nothing spectacular. Overall quite a disappointment especially considering that it was meant to be a special occasion, far too overpriced for what you get. We went to The Grill around Christmas time and this place pales by comparison. Will not be recommending this to friends.<br/><br/>
Dino Bambwino
Was put onto this place by an article on best steakhouses in Auckland by Concrete Playground.<br/><br/>Ordered rump (medium rare), onion rings as starter (BBQ sauce) and creamed spinach as side for steak. <br/><br/>Onion rings were awesome. BBQ sauce so good, if I wasn't sitting in the middle of the restaurant, I would have drank it.<br/><br/>The steak, although their basic steak, was excellent. It might have been a touch on the rare side, but I'm neither an expert or particularly fussy. <br/><br/>The creamed spinach was a great side.<br/><br/>Highly recommended!
Jessica Barrat
Had heart about this place  from friends many times before. Lucky us to get an chance to try it. I would recommend their eye fillet with truffle sauce, medium cook. Hope to come back again.
Brian Yip
I went there for the famous slow cooked steak.<br/>I ordered the king size for me and a queen size for my wife.<br/>While my steak was great and has met my expectation for a 50 dollar steak, I cannot say the same for my wife.<br/>Her steak was seriously over cooked and we have gave our feedback to the (what i believe was the) manager about our disappointment on the 40 dollar steak.<br/>Instead of apologising for the poor quality of the cooked steak, he instead defended the steak was normal and the cause of the overcooked steak was due to its thinner cut compare to my more expensive king cut...<br/><br/>As a resturant of this caliber I would assume it will be up to the chef and the restaurant to control the end quality of the steak...<br/><br/>I would've given JSH a 4+ if only rating my steak...but the service and consistancy is shocking.
AngeLi
My friend and I went there for lunch and we were after their Bluff Oysters...and that was so good! Very fresh and 25 dollars only for a dozen. The service was great. everyone's so accommodating. <br/>The only problem i had was the parking. Glad i was able to find one 2 blocks away from them but twas worth all the effort going there.<br/>I will definitely come back and try their mouth watering steak!

Wow! Jervois has definitely soared to the top of my list of favourite restaurants! I'm so blown away by everything! When I had first heard about Jervois I couldn't understand why people would pay so much for a meal... it certainly is expensive and my partner and I will only go for a special occasion but it is certainly worth it... We probably end up spending around $130 (not including drinks) But it is worth every penny! Customer service is the best I have ever had! waiting times for food to arrive seem to vary but most of the time your never waiting to long... the quality, variety and taste of the food is again the best I've ever had! I'm always so satisfied when I leave Jervois, it makes for a wonderful dinner date... I'm craving it again just writing this review! Highly recommend!
Fraser Collins
Definitely in my top 5 in Auckland. The steaks are sensational and I recommend the signature dish that you need to order 24 hours in advance. magnificent side dishes and a good wine menu. The service on all occasions we have been has been friendly and attentive, I've always been so impressed I have tipped well. It's not cheap, but I have never regretted going.
Stephanie Theresia
I really have to admit this steak is the best steak I've ever had by far. I often hesitate reviews on Internet about food, restaurants and something like that. But, yes.. people say the right things about the tender meat, awesome sauce from JERVOIS STEAK in Jervois Rd. We had our awesome Petite Angus Eye Fillet with Simple Syrah & Truffle Jus, and some side dishes and entree, Bristol Bay Red King Crab, Candied Kumara Baked, Onion Rings and JSH Creamed Spinach, completed with Man O'War Pinot Gris.<br/><br/>I'm not only satissfied with the food but also with the friendly waiters, especially the great guy named Rowen, who helped us from deciding the food to give us more joy on our #cny dinner. <br/>I can't say many, but so far.. what you spend here will be worth it! ????

Went here for my partners birthday. Did not regret a thing. The steaks were cooked perfectly to our liking and basically melted in our mouths. Our server was fantastic, he was attentive, explained the cuts well, and made us feel at ease, patiently listening to my partner's multitude of allergies. Pricy but well worth it!
Daniel Power
Set in classic steakhouse decor, a very knowledgeable and helpful waiter clearly passionate about steak, recited the specials for the evening. We had a Rump Steak and a Wagyu Sirloin / Marble score 4-5. The rump was perfectly seasoned and singed, no need for any sauce. The Wagyu was simply "nek level". Easily the best steak I've ever had, definitely worth paying extra for! Now I gotta try the A5 Wagyu!! Downsides were: the bread for our entree was caked in flour and too hard, and they charged $4 for balsamic vinegar which was a little unnecessary in my opinion (cost more than the steak sauce). Overall a satisfying experience, will be back!

Service: Excellent. They came to the table to check on us very frequently. Were very attentive and brought us extra things promptly when asked.  Presentation was excellent even the doggie bag was poshly packed in a cute bag and container. <br/><br/>Food: So good. No complaints. Took a doggie bag home with our left overs and the food was so good I ate them cold the next day before i could even make it to the microwave.<br/><br/>We started with the King Crab starter. It was excellent and really made this feel like a true steak house. Not to mention crab legs are super hard to find in auckland on any menu. Only complaint is it was a little hard to eat. But the taste was well worth the struggle. <br/><br/>We followed this up with the Ribeye for 2. Before cooking they brought this to the table to ensure we liked the cut of meat. They hand carved the cooked meat at our table and It was cooked to perfection, juicy and tender. The portion was generous for 2 people and we had left overs. <br/><br/>We tried several of the sides. All were very generous portions, 2 people could easily share. THe mac and cheese fritters were good, nothing too special. Not bad, just preferred the others more. <br/><br/>THe candied kumara was excellent with just the right amount of sweetness. <br/><br/>We saw the table next to us have the creamed spinach and thought it smelled divine. We asked the waiter to add that to the order and it was brought out promptly. It was so good and tasty. Needless to say we were quite full and satisfied leaving the restaurant. I only wish they had a slide instead of stairs!

We have visited Jervois steakhouse on a few occasions and always had a great meal. Our latest visit was to celebrate our oldest son's 18th birthday. From the moment we stepped in the door the service was fantastic. We arrived a bit early so went into the bar where a big deal was made about the lad ordering his very first drink from a bar.ID perused and mum asked specifically what TIME he was born. A small touch but made him feel it was a special occasion. the service from the staff as per "usual" (not usual for some places) was freindly and helpfull. The food was really nice and the side dishes complimented the meal well. its gratifying to get a nice steak cooked as requested. It turned out to be a genuinely enjoyable evening all round

I've been to Jervois Steak House twice now and have really enjoyed it both times.  On this latest visit, we went to celebrate my mother's birthday and were lucky enough to be placed in the private dining room.  The waiter who served us was very efficient and friendly and did his utmost to ensure that it was a special celebration for us all, including bringing in a small special dessert (complimentary) for my mum.<br/><br/>The steaks are really wonderful here.  My husband and I really enjoyed the rib eye for two on our previous visit.  For this visit, I had the Wagyu sirloin which was rich and tender - so delicious!  My mother had the Wagyu hanging tender which she really enjoyed as well.<br/><br/>A number of people ordered the signature prime rib and this had mixed reviews.  Some of our group found it to be too rich and fatty, whereas others really enjoyed their steak.  If you love a rich steak, then you should definitely order this.<br/><br/>Everyone really enjoyed the sauces, sides and appetisers.  Some standouts include the truffle fries, the crab leg, wagyu tartare and the clam chowder.  I was disappointed on this latest visit to see that one of our favourite side dishes from last time, the trio of mashed potatoes, was no longer on the menu.  JSH - please bring it back!<br/><br/>This is a great place to go if you want to enjoy a fancier-than-usual steak meal.
Kaitlyn
Hands down one of the best meals I've ever had<br/><br/>Entrees all delicious- French onion soup, Caesar salad, tender beef ribs, fresh whitebait fritters- all 5 star quality<br/><br/>The steaks melt in your mouth, literally to die for. I ordered the 200g Angus Fillet and even though being the smallest on the menu, it was still filling enough- along side two side dishes<br/><br/>Chocolate fondant pudding to end- wow! Chocoholics heaven <br/><br/>All the staff are helpful and professional, would defiantly recommend

Great Tomahawke T bone. Fantastic service. <br/>Calamari schnitzel to die for. <br/>Perfect business dinner with great wine selection. <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

I was told this place does the best steak in NZ. It does a little more than that!<br/><br/>I had the pleasure to try the calamari schnitzel & 16hrs sous vide cooked steak that u order a day before. Both exceptional plus as it was 12 of us, i tried a few other things ordered around the table and everything was good even the chicken roulade. But the most memorable part of the evening was the service. Bob (head chef) even came out himself to carve our 1kg T-bone. Rueben our server was exceptional, courteous and efficient! <br/><br/>Big thumps up to what I can safely say, THE BEST STEAK I've ever had and to the staff that make it happen here. Strongly recommend everyone to try it out! <br/><br/>Side note: We did have an issue with our bill split at the end but still left with a smile.

My wife and I having dined at some the best restaurants in NZ and ordering STEAK can honestly say that this was pure beef heaven! and by far the best we have EVER HAD!<br/><br/>A perfectly cooked medium-rare and medium.... stunningly pink from corner to corner and that could be cut with little effort (like a hot knife through butter).<br/><br/>The beef simply melted in your mouth and the side dishes (truffle chips, beetroot special and creamed corn) were simply divine, this is a steak cooked at its best and a culinary experience fit for the gods.<br/><br/>Nothing short of world class and will DEFINITELY BE BACK!<br/>

Toothfish. Doesn't any restaurant that serves toothfish just HAVE to be the best? I had a toothfish and scallop risotto but thankfully rather than trying to chop up the toothfish, they still served that as a fillet in the middle - and two scallops on the plate also had a wonderful texture. My wife had a fillet steak which despite being well done (don't ask!) was moist enough for even my raw tastebuds to enjoy. We preceded with crostini and while the duck liver parfait was a bit strong and the tomato mozzarella bland, the truffle ricotta walnut blend was PERFECT! The service from our waitress was superb. Thank you Jervois Steak House!
Chris Baldock
Visited this restaurant for a lads night. We were all suitably impressed. <br/><br/>The service was relaxed, but efficient. The wine list is also excellent.<br/><br/>The steaks were fantastic - generous, tasty cuts of high quality grass-fed beef. Our selection of sides - onion rings, creamed spinach and chips also hit the mark - with the mixed veges being the only underwhelming choice. <br/><br/>Our only gripe would be the fact we later found out we'd been over-charged for a dish. However, the amount was negligible and a minor slip up in an otherwise great night.
Leonard Leow
This is the best steak house restaurant I've been to, simply the best steak in town, well done to the chefs. Service was no flaw too!! This type of food and service should be located in the Viaduct area. Will return and recommend to others.
David Boshier
One of the best restaurants that I have been to this year. You are met with exceptional service that continues throughout the complete meal. <br/><br/>The Steak Tartare was a great start to a meat and Pinot filled evening. Sharing the Fiorentina was something special with it sliced and served at the table.<br/><br/>We will be heading back.
Sarah
Jervois Steak House has become a regular for me now, great staff who always remember you and great service. The young American girl is always so friendly and charismatic. We went in the other night and the waitress remembered us instantly, made us feel very comfortable in a setting that was quite formal. The food we ordered was amazing, and the steak... RIDICULOUS. So good.<br/><br/>We will be back again and again, and never take the truffled fries off the menu please
Lisa
You would expect a steak house that specialises in steak perfection to understand the difference between rare and mediun.my steak was ordered medium and came up very rare.we were told it would be a further 20 minutes and a second one came up exactly the same.we shouldve been offered a drink while we waited as it was not our fault but the waitresses but we were left sitting there with nothing.at $42 ....and this was one of the cheaper steaks, youd expect perfection, the entire visit was very pretentious and over rated...all fur coat and no knickers.the sides are$7.50 each and small for two.we wouldnt recommend this place and wont be back, nothing was done to diffuse our disappointment and we left feeling ripped off,its amusing as Simon Gault the owner takes no prisoners himself when it comes to his own dining standards.this restaurant charges like a wounded bull and DOES not deliver,we found the wait staff and maitre d condesending, telling us to call and remind them of our visit so it doesnt happen again.....dont hold yourbreath.

If you love steak this place is for you, friendly staff, great meat selection and value for money! Parking maybe difficult depending what time you go, whet for a luncha nd definatly will be back!

This place is awesome. On the pricey side but jeeeez, the food is amazing!! outstanding service, very attentive, not in your face - steak was better than anticipated. Only suitable for once a year treats and parties.. Very expensive. But it's worth the moolah.. I enjoyed every bit of it.

Can not stress enough how great this place is. Some of the best food i have eaten any were. I have been numerous times, both lunch and dinner, never anything but 100% the best. Steaks and sides all top-notch, service is perfect amount of friendly, knowledgeable &amp; attentive. The wine list fantastic &amp; specials are diverse and always fantastic. Atmosphere is always sophisticated and relaxed. It can cost a bit more than some places, but never much more &amp; is definitely worth it.

We heard good things about the Jervois Steak House &amp; Saloon, the manager was very good with his explanation of the menu and the specials, the oyster special was not overly fresh could not eat all, the calamari was my biggest disappointment tasteless bland minced up calamari bread crumbed and made to look like a schnitzel one bite was all I wanted no one in our party liked it sent back 90% it was not even seasoned, poor (charged full price). Our first round of drinks came there was something floating in the bottom of the glass with the cider which was replaced immediately, we tipped the waiter he was very professional and friendly. The steak was just OK $120. I guess I expected more, the sides were just OK nothing special unfortunately . Sorry but it's not a place I would go to again.

A birthday night out. Preordered the rib eye. It was way too undercooked for me but that's all. Everyhting else was fantastic. The steaks were great. The lamb outta this world..but the service..PETER you rocked. That's key to a great restaurant. Even if the food is a little lacking as it sometimes can, a great experience service wise can make me very forgiving. The desserts too were fantastic. Expensive though but worth it. The sides being separate is a bit of a pain but hey it's all the rage at higher end dining. The more expensive the restaurant the less you get on the plate which in the end is great for your waist!!!! But yay for Pete

We are a regular at The Grill By Sean Connolly but decided we would try something different so we chose to go here for a friend's birthday, we thought it would be busy so be booked a week in advance. <br/>Turned up at our sitting time and was told they would be with us shortly, after 15 minutes went by and 2 groups of 4 that arrived after us, we're seated before us we decided to say something just to make sure they hadn't forgotten us. They apologised and said it wouldn't be too much longer. We were seated 45 minutes after our booking time and 2 more groups of 4 were seated before us. Not exactly a good start...<br/>Everyone ordered Entrees, mains and desserts. Calamari Schnitzel was great, as was the Steak Tartare and King Crab. 2 of us had preordered the Signature Prime rib so we were expecting something excellent however, the meat was over cooked. We assumed it would come Medium Rare but was more like medium - well done, quite disappointed. However, we probably should have checked how it would come.<br/>Desserts were good, Creme caramel was great so was the blue berry cheese cake.<br/>Wine list is awesome and the bar tender was very knowledge probably the highlight of the night!<br/>Service was good, however we ended up having to pour our own wine a few times which is fine in an average restaurant but we expected them to be more attentive. Maybe we went in there with much higher expectations than we should of, but we won't be returning. Would rather pay a little more at The Grill and have an excellent dining experience opposed to a mediocre one.

The first time I had been to Jervois Steak House.<br/>What a great dining experience.<br/>Very relaxing and on the early shift at six-o-clock<br/>we didn't feel rushed as one can in other establishments. <br/>Our waitress was a young lady from Michigan and she made sure everything was perfect. <br/>Her timing between courses was just right.<br/>The food was excellent and I will definitely be back.even though it means crossing town.<br/>Thank you Jervois.

It was my 60th birthday treat from my kids, heard alot about the place.<br/>My daughter and I ordered the signature steak - they had run out?<br/>Ordered alternative - arrived cold!<br/>My son ordered the wine - they had run out of that particular choice as well.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!<br/><br/>Service was outstanding and food was delicious! Relaxing atmosphere and perfectly cooked steak... Couldn't have asked for more! Best meal we've had in a while! Definitely recommended to all!

Wow. Just wow. Subliminal service, fantastic food, aewsome atmosphere. I simply cannot give enough praise. <br/><br/>I have a very uncommon and severe food intolerance to salicylates which severely restricts what I can eat; put it this way - it is faster to list what I can eat, rather than what I can't. So I called ahead to arrange my menu ahead of time as many things would require a little extra thought and preparation. Chef Cory went above and beyond in order to help me - even surprising me with my own tailored entree AND dessert when it was discovered that I couldn't eat any of the entree's or desserts on the menu.<br/><br/>I was absolutely treated like a VIP which is so different to feeling like an absolute hindrance to the nights service. It was as if Chef enjoyed the challenge rather than being put out by it. Not only did the Chef go above and beyond but the wait staff and Maitre'd were polite, welcoming, funny, and knew what how to do their jobs well - without the stuffy bowing and scraping of other establishments.<br/><br/>While not exactly cheap, we paid a lot less than we expected to - my entree and our first drinks were given on the house!<br/><br/>We will most certainly be back!
Amy
One of our favourite restaurants. We regularly return. Fantastic starters and perfect steak every time. Also good wine list to choose a yummy red to go along with the steak. Love that you order your own sauces and sides to really customise your main. Love it!

Have always waned to go here as it as always been recommended, but while the steaks are nice (Good size and very well cooked) that is about the only part I can recommend.<br/>The topping I had with my steak Spinach/Blue Cheese tasted like it had only walked passed the blue cheese on its way out of the kitchen but did not contain any.<br/><br/>Service is ok with being asked four times if the meal was ok but with no interest in your response. But they did make sure your glass was always full, this being water or wine.<br/><br/>I suppose I was expecting better/more as far as the restaurant was concerned but it was quite small and in need of some TLC. esp the restrooms.

I love this place. It is not the most sophisticated or fancy, but by golly it is reliable and consistent and a go to venue when you want something done simply and done very well. <br/><br/>I absolutely ove how the main course comes out on a plate ON ITS OWN. <br/>No frills, greenery or unwanted garnish - you then order your sides and sauces and add as you want - the steak is the star of the show and rightly so. <br/>An excellent Red Wine list is available which just sets things off perfectly. Have been going there for years and will continue to do so as it is just a great place that does the simple things well.

Ever since my first experience with jervois prime-rib, I will only order steak at Jervois if I have the choice, others just not the same. Remember to pre-order prime-rib in advance. Service is friendly but can do with more support as recent visit on friday 04mar2011, my party of four with 3 pre-ordered primeribs and a salmon main with 4 sides, then two desserts to share, took almost 3 hours because short waitstaff busy. Note to self, not a place to go on weekend perhaps.

The meal was good but I don't know what the fuss is all about. <br/><br/>The signature prime rib was really good but the other steaks we had i.e. rib eye and angus eye fillets were pretty standard.<br/><br/>Good service.
Emma
This place turned me vegetarian, but I have to say the sides are amazing, particularly the creamed spinach, fries and onion rings. <br/><br/>Service usually very good.

Absolutely devine. World class with great service. Totally recommended.

This is my favourite steakhouse in new Zealand and the sauces are divine, My favourite is the 200g Black Angus eye fillet off the bone with a simple syrah sauce served medium.<br/>They have a wide selection of food including new Zealand lamb, Tuna, Salads, Delicious bread and the service is very attentive. For an incredible dining experience I would recommend Jervois steakhouse.<br/>You will not be disappointed.

One of my favourite restaurants in Auckland. Meat just shouldn't taste this good. Fine dining at it's best. Recommend for anyone looking for a classy looking restaurant with a menu created by one of New Zealand's top chefs.

The steak was second to none that I've ever tasted. Superbly cooked to perfection. The other's in our party had the fish and they rated it superb as well. Overall, well worth the cost (450g steak ~$50) and will happily go back.

Good steakhouses are hard to find, but JSH ticks every box for me, classy atmosphere, fantastic service and tantalising meals! I have been to JSH about 7 times in the past 3 years, and never ONCE have they dissapointed. Simon Gault may be arrogant on TV, however his food is rustic and has a home style flare that doesn't take away from the fact that it is a high end eatery. From experience, I would reccomend the eye fillet with the truffle sauce and mashed potatoes, try this if you are prepared to die and go to heaven!

This is the best steak I have ever had! Service was great and the price not too bad. Can't wait to go back. One of my favs for sure :-))))))))

I love steak and the JSH is definitely up there but the last few times i have been there it seems to have faded a little bit. The main draw for me has been the Blackmore Wagyu but they have since reduced the menu and the last two times they have not had any available due to supplier issues. Whilst i understand these things happen in some places, i don't expect it in such a premium top dollar establishment such as this. So unfortunately i have been left a bit disappointed.
Amy @ My Dining Journey
Jervois Steak House (JSH) and Botswana butchery are the two steak houses that I always go to whenever I have friends visiting overseas because they consistently serve exceptional food and some of the best steaks in town. Nothing more embarrassing that taking friends out to try some of our famous NZ steaks and then getting disappointed considering how much I rave about it. So when my friend decided to visit, all the way from Hong Kong, I made a booking at JSH so we could catch up over a luscious dinner. We went on a Tuesday night, thinking it will be quiet but the dining room filled up quickly with the tables outside also being occupied.<br/><br/>No one does a steak tartare quite like JSH and I could never resist ordering this divine dish when I visit. This time was no exception. The tartare made from prime eye fillet is presented with flakes of parmesan, red onion, gherkin, truffle and topped with a fresh egg yolk. This enables you to flavour and garnish as you please, allowing you to tailor to suit your personal preference. My friend’s whitebait fritter served with a large dollop of mayonnaise was a decent sized portion with ample juicy whitebait mixed with perfectly cooked eggs. Moist, soft and lightly seasoned, this fritter is a great way to showcase this seasonal fish.<br/><br/>We both decided to order steaks for our main in order to satisfy our beef cravings. My slow roasted signature prime rib, cooked to medium rare was served alongside a fabulous horseradish sauce. Similar to mustard, it has a light firey kick and was an excellent compliment to the juicy steak. My friend’s SG’s Choice Wagyu sirloin is slightly fattier and just as tender and juicy as the prime rib. We ate our steak with a side of creamed spinach.<br/><br/>JSH’s status as one of the best steak houses in Auckland will forever remain. I have eaten here on numerous occasion throughout the last decade and every time, the food has been amazing and exceptional.<br/><br/>For photos, please check out my blog: http://mydiningjourney.wordpress.com/2013/12/25/auckland-jervois-steak-house/

Excellent service and beautiful food.<br/><br/>Firstly, let me remark on their delicious food. Usually when I visit a place (higher end restaurant) like this, I don't expect myself to be really full by the end of it. However, Jervois' Steakhouse will have you filled for sure. I usually change what I order every visit, so far I have not been disappointed with all the selection. <br/><br/>Sexondly and perhaps more importantly, the staff are professional, cheerful and extremely friendly. They definitely make the experience great!<br/><br/>Bring good company for their Topnotch service and delicious food. What more can you ask for?
