Review The Sugar Club Auckland - Auckland Central

Our server, Ken was amazing. Food was delicious and paced really well. My daughter loved her chicken mains. The lamb was wonderful. Shoutout to Adel for being super accommodating to my little daughter. He and Ken made our night so fun.

The food was sensational. I don’t think I have ever had such great lamb! The wine and cocktail menu is extensive and delicious!! The view is phenomenal. This is a place everyone needs to go once in there lifetime! The waiter was great filling up the water - always a good sign of service. However a couple of things, there was no background music which I thought was odd. The service was slightly slow - not due to the waiter being lazy, he non stopped work! There needed to be more staff.

We did the degustation menu. Absolutely brilliant. The food was amazing - even the things I wouldn’t normally jump at were fabulous. The bread and cultured butter were a great start then it just kept getting better. Service was fantastic and the view was fabulous.

I would give 6 out of 5 stars. I forgot the name of the girl who served us on 19th nov , 8:30 booking for dhara with the long braided hair was amazing. That extra star belongs to her . Even the servers apart from her was good too. I love how vegan plant based tasting menu is curated. The variety and taste , omg we lovedddd it. Loved the special butter and it’s flavour with the bread. As a Indian I loved the the different twist or say take on Pani puri. Lovely looking spring garden salad. I usually don’t enjoy eggplant but the eggplant as main that you served was beautiful to look at as well as taste. Nutty carrot lovely. Sweet sour and bitter when all elements eaten togather. It was greattFeijoa sorbet is the first time I tried the flavour . I enjoyed it. And lastly treats was outstanding with sugar coasted raspberry jelly ❤️ I appreciate the chef who thought of this menu as well as made it taste so well. I am glad I could take out some time to visit sugar club while I was in Auckland for work trip View was spectacular in front of harbour bridge.

Phenomenal. Staff were friendly, polite and accommodating. Food was delicious to say the least and we thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu and wine pairings. Highly recommend splashing out to make the most of the menu available.

Great experience, great service and with a view to match. The food was all delicious, well seasoned and the cocktails do not disappoint. Low lights, comfortable chairs and an amazing vibe.

My wife and I came here as our "splurge" dinner during our honeymoon in New Zealand and we will remember it forever. The food, the views, the service, and the atmosphere were all top notch. Although the price is... shockingly high, the tasting menu with the wine pairings was absolutely worth it. The chef himself, Peter Gordon, brought out our main course. Cocktails are also very good here.

Yes, yes, any time yes! Fantastic time! Excellent cocktails ! Very cozy and inviting interior design. Very kind and attentive stuff. Excellent choice of drinks and cocktails. I would highly recommend to try Aoraki! Very beautiful cocktail based on gin, misha riesling wine and passion fruit puree. The combine to a very unique delicious taste. This cocktail also has dry ice in it which makes it more attractive and magical. I highly recommend to try this cocktail and visiting this establishment. You wont regret it their hospitality and a magnificent night view of Auckland from 53rd floor! Love it. Will be back !

Fancy place, excellent customer service, delicious food, and outstanding view. I like everything about this restaurant. The staff was very friendly, polite and helpful. The ambience is perfect for a night out with your date or when you want to give your family a brilliant fine dining experience. Check this place out and you won’t be regret !

First our table wasn't ready- sent to observation deck - that was closing.<br/>Then we were sent to the wrong floor.<br/>Took about half an hour to seat. <br/>When we finally got to our seat the waitress was lovely!<br/>Food: some of it was spectacular! Some was a hit or miss.<br/>We chose the vegan set menu. <br/>Very loud and tables were quite wide so had to lean over to talk to partner.

Spectacular view , romantic atmosphere, great dining experience.

The flavours of most the dishes paired well<br/>Textures seemed a bit unbalanced <br/>The views spectacular and priceless <br/>The service was friendly but not quite fine dining as we had several wait on us with a couple who didn’t know what we were being served - not good in my books<br/>The cocktail I ordered was absolutely magnificent the downfall is it was on the tiny tiny side and well over priced
Vincent
Very good service and very tasty food

Enjoyed the food, the view and lovely service from the highest restaurant in NZ. The only downside was the amount of people constantly walking outside, unsure if they are an amusement for the diners or the other way round😂

My partner and I had a few drinks and nibbles in the bar area of the Sugar Club recently... What a gorgeous spot! Great view, great vibe, great service. We ordered the Charcuterie platter which had a very generous amount of meats and bread on it. A pâté and/ or a bit of cheese added would have made it a more enjoyable platter, but that is really my only criticism. <br/>We'll definitely be back for dinner :)

Went there to celebrate our anniversary~<br/>Service: 5/5, our waiter is really nice. <br/>Food: strongly recommend crayfish linguine, venison and chocolate dessert. Personally I think the drink taste nothing special.<br/>Location: absolutely love the view.<br/>Will visit again~ <br/>

Waited 40min for this average dessert..<br/>The waiter did not clear our table after our meals for more than 20mins. They did not apologise or gave any actknowledgment of the delayed situation. Our table was left unattended for too long also as we went to pay only the total of the bill was given to us -We hope sombody came to check or even have asked us “how was your meal today”

I have been looking forward to dining for the longest time, really enjoyed the food and atmosphere here. <br/><br/>Two or three course meals here, great value for money considering the food and spectacular views. <br/><br/>The best dish was the crayfish linguine, perfectly well balance in creaminess and seafood goodness. <br/><br/>Out of the two mains, the hauraki gulf fish was the better main. Fish cooked well, and each component on the dish paired well on the dish. <br/> The Cambridge duck on the other hand was on the tough and chewy side. <br/><br/>Desserts were good but not stand out. <br/><br/>Would I be back, definitely. It’s a great place to take anyone who needs to see Auckland and have a good meal!

One of my favourite places to dine! The views are amazing and the food is 10/10. <br/>Usually the service is great too, but on my most recent visit the staff were not friendly, they were super slow and we had to ask twice for everything (refilling water, asking for bill) because they would just forget what we requested. I understand it can get busy but good service is part of what we pay for so that was a little disappointing. <br/>It might have just been the one night - the food is great so I recommend anyone who has a special occasion coming up to give it a visit!

Came here for a cocktail last night. The views were freaking amazing!! Cocktails were delicious and the bar staff were more than happy to customise. Highly recommend.
Nathalie
Dined here for lunch in their private room, impeccable service! Super lovely staff and amazing ambiance. We had their $79 3 course lunch set menu. And all their dishes looked so beautiful and elegant, flavours were very subtle (it would have been nice to get stronger flavours). I wasn’t a fan of their chocolate ganache, however the fish and lamb were well cooked and would happily order those again. Despite the serving being super tiny we left feeling full and satisfied. Will probably be back to try dinner.
BelaIna
The place is definitely nice and the service is good. But I didn’t like the fact I had to wait a very long time for both my appetiser and main course. The linguine are supposed to be al dente and a bit creamy but not like a soup. The duck was great.
CY
Wanted to get the tasting menu to share but we were told each person had to order the same so we couldn’t. Food Was alright but portion sizes were a bit small (main dish only had two dumplings.good plant based options

WOW at the spectacular view! The food was also lovely. Although small in portion, it fills you up quite well as various dishes come out!

Spring tasting menu for my Birthday. Sugar club has the best views in all of Auckland as it sits on the top floors of the Sky Tower. <br/><br/>12 courses with wine pairings and a whisky sour for good measure. This menu or journey was fantastic every single dish i enjoyed but the standouts were the beef tatare and the lamb. Hapuka was great too.<br/><br/>Service was amazing very friendly and attentive staff. The venue is quite nice too, as you walk around you can peak into some of the stations and see the staff doing their thing.<br/><br/>The entire menu was out in a total of 130mins which for me was an excellent pace. I will be returning for another seasons menu.
Angela Hung
The mains taste good, but the dessert just ok.

The views from the Skytower pales in comparison to the views in the dining area here. The views here through the crystal clear glass was incredible and gives a nice ambiance to the restaurant.<br/><br/>We came here for restaurant month so we were able to get dinner for lunch prices. The service was top notch right from entry, being taken care of without being overbearing. <br/><br/>the pace of the meal was quite slow but enjoyable. The food itself was really well prepared and delicious. The Ora king salmon was melt in the mouth tender. I really liked the chicken fat fish with the chicken crackling and tasty coconut foam. The vegetable side was also nice, I really liked the truffled potatoes. The dessert were also quite interesting, particularly the mandarin one.<br/><br/>Definitely a really nice place for a special occasion or if you are wanting a really decadent meal. Really good service and food.

My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate his 20th birthday. I guess when you're dining at The Sugar Club, you're mostly paying for the experience such as the service and the view, as well as the food presentation. Fine dining restaurants never fill me up completely so I guess that's a downside to the high price you pay and we were both fully aware of this. Firstly, the staff took excellent care of us and we felt extremely welcomed in the restaurant and the view was great too! we got to watch the sunset, which added value to a romantic night.<br/><br/>We decided to get entree and main for $89pp as well as two cocktails (unsure of the names but one of the cocktails were turned black to support the All Blacks for the RWC 2019). The cocktails were delicious and surprisingly weren't too expensive, it was priced similar to other restaurants in the CBD. We started off with bread and butter. The bread was still warm as it was freshly made I believe and the butter was delicious too! It was made from yogurt. Then, they bought out snacks for us, I was unsure what one of the snack was but it tasted like a chicken/fish nugget with BBQ sauce. The other snack was a raw fish on a seaweed cracker. These two snacks made us even more hungry in preparation for the entree and main. I got the crayfish linguine for my entree and he got the ora king salmon. My crayfish linguine was cooked to perfection, the creaminess of the sauce was gripping onto the pasta and there was a generous portion of crayfish provided. I tried a bit of the salmon as well and it tasted really fresh. For my main, I got the Cambridge duck breast and he got the lamb. My duck breast was cooked to perfection, the meat was juicy and tender and the skin was crispy and flavourful. The duck bolognese was really good too (tasted quite simple but still delicious) and they put pickled radish on the top, which cleansed my palate as it was a bit sour and refreshing. I tried my boyfriend's lamb and it tasted really good too! it was a bit fatty but the fat melted in my mouth and mixed with the tender meat, adding more flavour.<br/><br/>He even got a birthday gift from The Sugar Club, they provided some delicious fudge for dessert! I would probably come back but only on special occasions due to the price but it is definitely worth paying for the experience

First of all THAT view, secondly, amazing, no impeccable service. The food is Devine. We came here for restaurant month, what an epic deal! $59 for 3 beautiful looking and tasting dishes. So so impressed.<br/>We had a heap of rose too which was also Devine. Total all round experience was a 10/10

Stunning views and amazing food here for a date night! We came here in January and had the 7 course chef’s spring dinner which I cannot fault, the food was delicious and nicely presented. We also ordered two glasses of wine and two glasses of mocktails. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly and were able to accommodate to my dietary requirements as I was pregnant at the time. <br/><br/>The only downside to this 7 course dinner was that it took 3.5 hours to complete and by the end of it my butt was sore from sitting too long.
Qingqingdong888
The service is good. Excellent main course. Dessert not as expected... you can have a very nice view of Auckland city cause all the tables are beside the window.

We had dinner here on my birthday last year, And had a wonderful experience, we decided to try out lunch this year and I’d say Sugar Club never disappoints! They’re food and cocktails were amazing! I highly recommend this place! 👍🏼😁

The Sugar Club had a beautiful ambience and all of the decor and furniture fit together perfectly. <br/><br/>I came here with my partner for our anniversary and I personally did not enjoy it. I found that despite being beautifully presented the food was amiss for me.<br/><br/>The staff were all well versed in the menu, but felt rather unfriendly and unapproachable. <br/><br/>Beautiful space and concepts, but I do not think that I will be returning to the Sugar Club.
Lucy Preston
Has a great evening here, however I didn’t think the menu was overly creative or out there.<br/>It does give a bit of a Kiwi twist to some classics, so if you are wanting delicious food which isn’t too adventurous then this is the place to go.<br/>Of course you can’t beat the location, and the service was awesome too.<br/>A must do for a night in Auckland!

Sugar Club takes fine dining to a whole new level (literally 300m level). We tried the Chef’s Autumn Degustation menu; which is full of surprises because you don’t know what to expect and just sit back relax and enjoy being attended for like a Queen. <br/><br/>My highlights were the Beef Tartare, Raw Aged Dry Beef, Scampi Dumpling, Wildshot Venison, and Jerusalem Artichoke Ice Cream! <br/><br/>This would be a novel if I wrote about each of them, but be assured that each and every single element on each dish had a purpose and were all elegantly presented. <br/><br/>Service was faultless and as with ambience — nothing but sophistication, elegance, rustic yet classy. <br/><br/>An exceptional place for a dinner date for a special occasion (or not)! <br/><br/>Food: 10/10<br/>Price: 9/10<br/>Ambience: 10/10<br/>Service: 10/10

We wanted to try this restaurant months ago but didn’t have any chance at all. Last month was my birthday month so i had an excuse to try it out. We had an awesome experience in this place. Ambience and the view was so perfect (we went there for lunch). The foooood!! Omg it’s out of this world. I love it! We will go back and dine in here again for sure.

Perfect restaurant for any special occasions. Nice good, fantastic services, best views in Auckland. Usually have special deals during lunchtime weekdays. A must have dinning experience in Auckland.

Bros wedding reception held here 30/05/19 just a small but loud invites lol First time here though heard about a few times. Well the food was great for sure a few not to my likings but that’s only me. The food is of high quality and immaculate presentation but like I said in my own opinion “It’s not for me” in all it was a great day, great venue and scenery best location for an intimate occasion and I highly recommend y’all to check out for your self.

Went there on my birthday.<br/>Main 4.5/5 is very good and on the plate there is several ingredients which balance taste<br/>Dessert 5/5 is obsolutely stunning, best dessert ever. Not too sweet and there are glazed figs to balance the sweatness of ice cream.<br/>Service 4/5 service is okay but for a restaurant this standard could have been better<br/>Ambience 5/5 it is on 53 floor of skytower, and I got the view of Auckland CBD very pretty ❤<br/>One person: $49 for main and dessert, $20 for cocktail<br/>Two people spent $118 :)

An unforgettable experience, we came up for two friends birthday and was pleasantly surprised by the adorable Kiwiana theme within all the dishes. The cheeky marmite appetizer was greatly appreciate! The plating was immaculate and if I speak for myself the quail was so tender and the condiments were very distinct and well curated - allowed for much more experimental dining. Scampi dumpling was lovely and the yuzu added a sweet kick. Thanks sugar club for the little birthday surprise bonbons too! The girls felt very spoilt 💕

I booked the private dining room for an intimate wedding reception dinner on 18 May. The staff were very accomodating. Every single attendee has different diet preferences (9 people). The chef went as far as buying a different meat especially our dinner. They didn’t just accomodate to the courses, even all the entrees and snacks were modified to suit EVERY SINGLE GUEST. The printed out my email containing the list of names and preferences and explained every single dish. I can’t thank them enough. <br/><br/>The service, food (taste and presentation), interior design, atmosphere were fantastic. That night was perfect. It’s everything I wanted and imagined for a special night, one of the most important life events. After the last course, dessert, the chef gave us congratulatory chocolates and jellies. Overall, I highly recommended this place.
Gourmet Vegetarians
Normally sky-high restaurants are total tourist traps but the Sugar Club really is an exception to the rule.<br/><br/>After knocking back a deliciously sweet espresso martini at the bar, we heading to our table and commenced a vegetarian tasting menu. <br/><br/>The meal begun with 4 snacks- my favourites being a deconstructed sour cream “pringle” and a crispy polenta square topped with wasabi mayo.<br/><br/>First course was a mushroom tartare with served with a buttermilk ice cream, tempura greens and fermented gooseberry. It was a refreshing dish and the contrasting textures made for an interesting mouthfeel.<br/><br/>Next was the charcoal carrot which I’d say was the most flavourless dish of the night. Even the macadamia puree and dates that it came with didn’t do enough to create interest for the dish. <br/><br/>After this was the cauliflower, which came with toasted rice made for an exciting crunch and Doris plum which added a hint of tart sweetness. Unfortunately was some strange smoky flavour on the dish that did slightly taint it for me.<br/><br/>Next was the charred broccoli heart with a brussel sprouts and pickled sea chicory in full oil, which doesn’t sound particularly appetising but turned out to be light and tasty. <br/><br/>The stand out of the night surprisingly enough was the roasted cabbage, which came with oyster mushrooms and a tamarind purée which was sweet yet powerful and really blended seamlessly with the cabbage.<br/><br/>The goods kept coming with the desserts, which begun with a deconstructed panna cotta with a creamy fig leaf ice cream and honey cake. The dish wasn’t overly sweet and the fig flavour came through powerfully, and I enjoyed that unlike in a regular panna cotta there was variation of texture through the different elements on the plate.<br/><br/>We finished with a dark chocolate mousse accompanied by a sharp Kampot pepper icecream, damson and quince. It was rich and decadent, perhaps a little overpowered by the chunks of quince but still a delicious way to end the meal. <br/><br/>Overall loved the atmosphere, staff were incredibly attentive and views are out of this world. The presentation of the dishes and quality of the food is impecable, however I wasn’t completely blown away by the vegetarian offerings.

I came here for dinner a while back and was served by Peter Gordon  himself (well he brought out the meal and talked to people) the food itself is amazing and i can't fault it, however i still needed more food afterwards to really fill me up
João Plácido
By far the best food experience I ever had in Auckland. An explosion of flavours and textures every time I had another bite. Well balanced dishes and not to mention their exotic nature.<br/>Amazing atmosphere at the top of the Sky Tower with awesome costumer service.<br/>Definitely a must do in Auckland if you're a food lover.

Food was good. The pace was way too fast though for a tasting menu. In and out in less than two hours. Finished a dish and immediately came the next one. We felt kind of being rushed. One waiter even wanted to clear my partner’s plate before he finished his food!

What can I say - once in a lifetime opportunity. Food was yummy with some unusual dishes. Portion sizes were good and we left feeling full. Staff were friendly but professional. Definitely a treat.

The dishes were amazing. We went for the ala crate menu. Not only did you get 3 meals you also got these little delicious snacks before the entree came out. A bit expensive but delicious and the view of course was amazing

Just perfect. Came here for our anniversary lunch a while ago. We got the three course meals. Top notch service, delicious food, great value for the quality of food you are getting. They even give us a complimentary anniversary plate of chocolates. It came with complimentary bread and palate cleanser as well. Will definitely be back to try their new season menu.
Bonnie Hu
Tried their digustation menu with a wine pairing shared between us. Food was amazing with great flavour balance from the chef. Wine paring is the smallest serving we’ve ever had at any restaurant for any digustation pairing. Waiters’ service was also not as good the price tag compare to other high end digustation in Auckland, no entertainment value. Overall is great but I don’t think it’s worth $450 for two, it’s a bit overrated.
Emily
Sugar club is located on the 53rd level of the sky tower. With stunning views and impeccable presentation, this fine dining restaurant is a must go to. I tried many of their dishes but the lobster pasta was my favourite. The waiter was very polite, patient and accomodating.<br/><br/>Although this is not an everyday dining place, I will definitely be back again for a special occasion.
LuNa The TuNa
Really love their new menu designed by Chef Josh Barlow. All the presentation and flavour are pretty good. With the view on top floor of sky tower. U only feel nice and relax.

Came here for my birthday and had an amazing experience. We had dinner for 3 hours and enjoyed all the dishes. The waiter was very attentive and recommended the tasting menu as you get to try a variety of dishes in smaller portions.<br/>The hungry bear left happily with satisfying big belly full of goodness🐻💕<br/>

Came here for my anniversary and the whole experience is just wonderful.<br/><br/>We were greeted professionally and being attended to from the time we entered till the time we left.<br/><br/>They pay a lot of attention to details and special thank you to one of the staff who knows our dietary requirement and quickly remove the plates that was about to be serve to us by another staff. Came here for lunch with my wife. We had the 3 course special. Each meal was beautifully presented, had lovely textures and the tastes were amazing. The service was faultless and the view stunning. A very special event.

Wonderful service. This is an artistic experience. Each dish is well thought out and the explainations provided by the servers encouraged mindful eating so that you really notice the subtle flavours. Each dish was cooked to perfection. I would call this more of an experience because if you order the tasting menu it can take a few enjoyable hours. Each plate is well balanced and food is pleasing to the eye. Superb.

The place to have a great dinner view and the food was great, enjoy the waiters being so polite with top service's everytime.. Very good experiences

Start with the obvious - absolutely unbelievable view, we were lucky and dined on a beautiful clear evening. We had the 3 course pre-fix for $100. Crayfish linguini was beautiful, steak main was very nice too. Only small issue for me (with any fine dine experience) is the small portion sizing. Think I went had White Lady a few hours lady :)<br/><br/>I'd recommend anyone to go at least once simply for the views alone...

We ordered the Chef’s Spring Tasting Menu which consisted of;<br/><br/>- Bread w/ Marmite Butter<br/>- Snacks<br/><br/>- Spanner Crab<br/>- Chawanmushi w/ Scallop<br/>- Confit Asparagus<br/>- Monkfish w/ Kimchi Pumpkin<br/>- Jerk Pork<br/>- Wagyu w/ Baby Gem<br/><br/>- Lemonade, Gin, Cucumber<br/>- Fromage Blanc Sorbet<br/>- Chocolate w/ Asparagus Ice Cream<br/>- Birthday Dessert Plate<br/><br/>Words cannot even begin to describe how amazing the entire experience was. It was clear that each and every dish was designed and created with the upmost care and respect for each ingredient involved, and to ensure that every element complemented each other perfectly. Every single dish on this tasting menu was presented beautifully with flavours that were just as extravagant. My favourite dish would have to be the Jerk Pork w/ Kumquat and Red Cabbage Slaw. The meat was so incredibly succulent and well flavoured, while the kumquat really helped to take the dish to the next level. Would highly recommend.<br/><br/>Service was phenomenal and they really took the time to cater to each table’s needs. I brought my mum here as a surprise for her birthday as she has always been a fan of Peter Gordon. We saw him enter the restaurant and our server offered for him to stop by for a photo. He came by for a chat, was super friendly, and even kept checking up on us throughout the night which was lovely.<br/><br/>A real treat to dine here, with amazing food, hospitality, and beautiful views to top it all off.

Sugarclub is always great. Some of the most polite and efficient service in Auckland. Had a set menu with wine pairing. Everything was perfect.

Sugar Club<br/><br/>This restaurant will remain as an experience. I started off with a walk in the 51st floor Sky Tower observatory before stepping into Sugar Club. <br/>I’m more a beer lover and I started off with the Sawmill Pilsner - a NewZealand brew that is a little more bitter but readies your taste buds for the excellent food to come. <br/><br/>The food was experienced with the Ora NewZealand Ale - Fruity Aroma and a very smooth taste and I would recommend this as an alternative to wine if you like to enjoy the tasty dishes. <br/>For starter I went with the Cray Fish Linguine - A noodle base with pumpkin seeds and the Cray Fish just cooked to tickle the taste. Delicious and an excellent start !!<br/>For the main course, I stuck to South Island Monkfish - the base is curd with coriander oil and a light fried pumpkin. The monkfish is well cooked, and bland. The taste is a relish when you dip it in the kawakawa sauce and add a piece of pumpkin. Finger licking delicious !!<br/><br/>Finally the Palm Sugar Tart - I don’t have words to praise this dish. Best experienced !!!!!<br/>

A superb dining experience in every sense. Our party of 4 opted for the five dish menu, which included complimentary bread, with a marmite butter, a selection of 2 other appetisers that were delicate and delectable, and a refreshing palate cleanser of citrus granita and Hendricks and cucumber foam. My wife loved her Negroni cocktails and their Singapore Sling was amazing. Our waiter was kind enough to pair up a couple of glasses of wine to match my courses, and they complimented the food very nicely. I won’t bore with an analysis of each dish. I will just say that each dish was thoughtfully prepared in terms of complimenting flavours, colours and textures, and it all worked! Outstanding service from the front of house team made the whole experience a wonderful treat. Very highly recommended.

5 star service. 5 star ambience. 5 star food quality and presentation.<br/><br/>Came here for my birthday and wow what a treat! Make sure you get dressed up as the ambience and restaurant is very classy. We got the tasting menu and each dish brought out to us was amazing. Waiter had outstanding customer service and that's crucial for a 5 star restaurant.<br/>Pricey but its worth it.<br/><br/>If you want to wow that special person take them here:)

We came here for my birthday and ordered the three course lunch for $59. Was told that we can choose three dishes from the A La Carte lunch menu on the website. However when we arrived, we were given a different menu with very limited options. So naturally we became disappointed as we looked forward to trying out some of the dishes on the original menu. We only had two choices for each course and sometimes were not fond of either options. I just wish we weren't treated differently because we ordered the three course lunch offer. Nevertheless, it was a good experience as it included sky tower admission and the view and service were good.

I was very skeptical about this place but it was absolutely amazing! A great way to dine/a great gift idea. We got four dishes (+ complimentary items) and surprisingly, we left feeling super full! The service and ambience was amazing too 👌🏽

If you're looking for a top-end-of-market degustation experience, then Sugar Club should be part of your list. Maybe by sheer coincidence we also ended up with a French speaking waiter (Marcus... may have been Belgian) but the food was well explained and new (for me), the experience was enjoyable and exploratory all in one go. We chose the 11 course set which was good for 2 and then took on an additional set for dessert. Not my first time in a degustation restaurant but the view (50+ floors up), the company (my 12yo daughter) and the wait staff made it special. We spent $300 including non-alcoholic drinks but excluding tip. Perfect place for that special occasion.

So it’s been a while since I’ve been back to the sugar club and in this instance we booked a table for a five for lunch on a Saturday. We were running late for our booking but the staff still presented us with world class hospitality service. They were very friendly, attentive and patient as we chose our courses (my grandparents do not speak English) and constantly returned to our table to make sure everything was ok. <br/><br/>The dishes were beautifully presented and flavourful, with my favourite being the crayfish linguine. <br/><br/>Would definitely recommend!<br/>

You don’t know what’s 5/5 till you try this place. The sugar club make me want to go back to my older reviews and give the other 5/5 less points. <br/><br/>Perfectly situated inside the sky tower with a killer view. Boasting fine dining dishes that will tickle your tastebuds and explode on your tongue. You’ve got to come here at least once.<br/><br/>Ordered 5 dishes and each was amazing.<br/>HIGHLY recommend the crayfish linguini, perigord truffle, and beef pesto. <br/><br/>Taste: 5/5<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Selection of wine: 5/5<br/>View: 5/5<br/>Setting: 5/5

Perfect example of fine dining without being pretentious. Excellent and unique flavours from the tasting menu. Lovely staff with very thick French ascent to add to the mood. We were all mesmerised with the entire experience. Expensive but definitely worth it along with its location

Situated on the 53rd floor of the Sky Tower is the Sugar Club. It boasts stunning views of Auckland Harbour and Auckland CBD.<br/><br/>Had a lovely birthday lunch here. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. It was so nice of them to present a birthday dish. That was really neat. The salmon was so tender and melted in your mouth. The portion sizes are your usual small fine dining portions. The flavours were sensational and quite different.<br/><br/>The service was impeccable and the wait staff really understood and had a great knowledge of the food.

I wouldn’t classify this venue as fine dining but probably fine dining for Aucklanders. It’s just got a very good location but not really maintained the way a fine dining restaurant should be. The food was amazing and the service was nice too. Ordered for :<br/>the spanner crab, the sesame baked aubergine, the crayfish linguine(absolutely immaculate and very well done)<br/>The monkfish could’ve been better and the honey parfait could’ve had more intensified or bolder flavors of the existing elements. Chocolate brownie wasn’t that great. Overall satisfactory experience

Awesome Auckland view from level 53, great hospitality & scrumptious food! What more can I ask for? Definitely worth every penny. I still can’t get over the crayfish linguine, it was beyond heavenly! The Mt cook alpine salmon was extremely tasty too 🤩😋

New & drastically improved Menu! A whole new level for New Zealand! 5 stars is an understatement. I want to give more stars if I could!<br/><br/>I have tried the previous menu prior and wasn't a fan. There simply weren't enough "wow factors". When I dine a love the process of being excited, surprised and eyebrows raised every time after my first bite of a new dish. Sugar Club has now achieved this at a whole new level.<br/><br/>Exec Chef Josh Barlow explained the menu, and while dining not only did it feel like hundreds of hours of hard work has been put into coming up with the new menu, I could feel hundreds of miles traveling throughout New Zealand tasting genuine New Zealand ingredients. When my international friends or VIP clients from overseas come over, I would not take them anywhere else but Sugar Club, these dishes make me proud to be a Kiwi.<br/><br/>The view is always amazing, from the minute you step out of the elevator you see the beautiful Rangitoto with colours of the sunset bouncing off, while you enjoy a glass of yummy beverage as your table is being prepared.<br/><br/>We went with the chef's recommendation and continued with the tasting menu. The bread intro with wakame whipped butter was delicious. The crust was crunchy and the center was soft and warm. Made me feel comfortable as if I was already home.<br/><br/>The snacks to start - first of all - shouldn't be called snacks as it felt like another understatement, the presentation of the tasters was full of nature, from stunning pearl rocks, to wood art bark. All with beautiful colours and ingredients. Every bite felt like an adventure. The food does not taste like what the mind expects. So prepare to have a stunned look on your face while your brain processes the flavours and sends signals to your mouth to smile after 5 seconds. Raw beef mayo flower crackers, Crispy Pork Parsley Puree (flavour bursting from left to right), and other ingredients which I have no idea of as it still feels like a dream.<br/><br/>The spanner crab, matched with sweet wasabi, sea herbs, cucumber, pink grapefruit and two types of spinach was exciting, new and fun. I have not tasted anything like this before, extremely refreshing and felt like a ballet exhibition on my palate. I was tempted to lick the plate, luckily my cutlery skills sufficed.<br/><br/>Then came the Periford Truffle, $3500/kg truffle on top of a tasty chicken custard. Allowing the flavours to expand, grow and carry through. Excitement, and eyes wide lit. My wife and I felt young again! So much fun!<br/><br/>Texture of the South Island Monkfish was perfect. There was no way I could even try and replicate this at home. The pumpkin I did not understand. But it didn't really matter at this stage. The sauces needed to be mixed together, bringing out flavours that match one another like magnetic poles.<br/><br/>The Cambridge Duck was prepared to perfection. Pink throughout with crispy skin. So much flavour in this dish, so soft and delicious. I still crave for more duck to this minute.<br/><br/>Wild shot Venison...Let me explain this. If you have ever had an amazing eye fillet that melts. This is it but with an extra gorgeous smokey flavor. The sauce made from bone marrow. No effort was required, as a single motion was enough to cut the meat every time without fail. Extremely impressive, I have no idea how this was made, no way my home sous vide could make anything so tender. Makes me question why even bother have steak when there is something as intriguing as this.<br/><br/>The desserts then followed, the Prune & Armagnac really stood out for me and I love it. My wife loved the fruitiness of the Beans chocolate and treats.<br/><br/>There really isn't much else to say but for you to MUST GO AND TRY. Book on the website today, so you can put it in your calendar as a to do list for the next month. I will be back many more times for sure.<br/> Everyone was friendly, extremely efficiently coordinated like an orchestra and very professional.<br/><br/>I would not be surprised if this restaurant now becomes the first Michelin grade restaurant in New Zealand. You heard it here first!<br/><br/>Service: 6/5<br/><br/>Food Quality: 6/5<br/><br/>Food Quantity: 6/5<br/><br/>Environment: 6/5<br/><br/>Presentation: 6/5<br/><br/>Price: $155 for Tasting Menu

We went on a clear night and the view from the restaurant was stunning, definitely a dinner experience to remember. The food was presented beautifully and all the components worked well together.

Favourite restaurant with the most delicious menu! Went to the Grape vs Grain event recently and had the most incredible degustation. Such a fun night, looking forward to coming back soon!

Was taken to this restaurant for a birthday shout and it was a really lovely place. Food was cooked perfectly and the chefs steak we had was amazing I still think about it to this day.<br/><br/>Although it's not full meals it is still filling.<br/><br/>Service was fantastic and price was not bad for 3 people (approx $300 including drinks)<br/><br/>Just wait a little while before riding the elevator down is my only suggestion. But definitely worth a try.

Honestly I don’t think it was worth it the food wasn’t that appetising or anything I would crave for it was average at best, the crayfish linguini was probably the only dish I liked view was amazing and service was good but not worth it IMO. forgot to take pictures of the other dishes

This one of the best fine dining restaurant in AKL.<br/>Food was fun, exciting and delicious!<br/>staffs were very friendly.<br/><br/>i would highly recommend it to all.

Had this dinner booked a few weeks in advance but a craving at around 4pm led to a booking for that night. Thankfully they still had space. We got the degustation menu which takes 3 hours to finish. <br/>The butter with the bread is to die for, soft and flavoursome. <br/>Another highlight was the Paua dip and chips. Sounds weird and over the top but it worked and the plating is definitely a conversation piece. <br/>The other two outstanding dishes were the crayfish linguine and duck breast. The linguine was rich and had a complex layer of flavours. The duck breast had been spiced and was tender and juicy. <br/>The waiters that attended to us throughout the night were well educated in the food they presented and really made you feel like they were here cooking just for you. <br/>The bill came to just over $300 for two people, no drinks. <br/>

We have been here twice and both times I have found the food to be average. I wouldn’t crave going to sugar club. <br/>The menu both the times was kind if similar.<br/>Ambience and staff are good

One word: Sublime! Must do in Auckland.<br/>Guys, you deserve 3 Michelin stars (and I have eaten in many Michelins around the world). My first night on my first ever trip to NZ.<br/>I was by myself but was given one of the best tables (window) and treated like a queen (or an important food blogger) from the moment I walked in.<br/>Thank you staff for making suggestions on how many courses to choose for my custom degustation (settled on 4) and what wines to go best with it (I was keen to venture outside of of Malborough/Otago safety net). <br/>Tips on what to order:<br/>Don’t miss linguine and venison. They are two “must have” dishes.<br/>However, everything else (I also had tuna and lamb) was to die for and it was only out of respect for fellow diners I refrained from licking the plates!!!<br/>Ps: very reasonable prices by world standards. Polished modern service. Well done guys!

Outstanding service, delicious food, amazing views of Auckland - definitely somewhere to visit for a special occasion / if you have guests you want to impress! Today was my third visit to the Sugar Club and they have been consistently superb. The signature crayfish linguine is still my absolute favourite dish - I'm going to be dreaming about it again tonight :)

Beautiful view, lovely service and had a really enjoyable time. Crayfish linguine was bloody delicious, if only the serving could be bigger! Some other sizings were a little small but all enjoyable. Only thing was I didn’t enjoy the chilli cocktail.

Wonderful food, staff and atmosphere. Went there for a special birthday. Ordered 3 mains per person but we were spoiled with two extra complimentary dishes and another full glass of wine each! The desserts were so so soooo good. It was a night to remember :)

You can't ask more about the view from The Sugar Club, and the food also has high standards. Went on a very special occasion and went for the eight course menu.<br/><br/>Most of what I tried was great, specially the venison and the lobster. Service was also very good and professional.

It's a wonderful restaurant to celebrate your special days. The seating arrangement is beautiful with stunning views. The staff were very friendly.A but over-priced but I loved the experience of being served with such kindness. The Mocktails and Vegetarian food was delicious.

Happy Easter and Happy Sunday. A wonderful day with my best friend, it has nice view, nice food and the best service. Hope everyone enjoy it

Been meaning to try this for some time - finally I have! And I love everything about the Sugar Club: the food, the atmosphere, the service, the location! 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻<br/><br/>The food is delightfully and delicately arranged and tastes good. You pay per dish here, the minimum order is 3 dishes. I did notice all the meats I ordered (lamb, pork belly, duck) came out quite soft (according to the waiter it was due to the way it was prepared by storing the marinated meat in a bag until it was ready to be cooked again). By the second dish I was already semi-full.. 😅 The decor and atmosphere is pretty modern and being in the Sky Tower you get pretty nice views of Auckland city! 😄<br/>The coffee / liquor bar area is also nice to relax in after lunch. <br/><br/>Overall, the Sugar Club is a definite must try! <br/>Plus free visit up the Skytower. <br/>Go go go!

This restaurant is for those that value quality over quantity . Excellent service . Stunning view. A good wine list , not overly complicated yet comprehensive enough. Good option of degustation or an adventurous a la carte. Would definitely return!<br/>

Difficult to describe the experience. Being a big time foodie this has been one of the best experience i have ever had. Impeccable service by the foh staff and the way chefs played with different ingredients and created magic on place was unbelievably amazing. I dont think so i have to speak about the ambience it is one of the best restaurant in auckland and the view from the top is breathtaking. It was worth every penny.

If your looking to go somewhere special, this is the place to go. The bill can be a bit pricey depending on how much you eat but it is worth it. You will try things you might never normally try. The wine list is great and the View is amazing.

The beautiful restaurant is located on the 53rd floor of the sky tower .Innovative drinks and some exceptional fusion food. Their bar has some great in house liquors. The servers are very informative about the dishes and they encourage you to share and try as many. We tried the sashimi which was like a tapas, the crayfish linguini (was the best dish for me personally), octopus carpaccio, seared venison, pork belly, duck breast(had south Indian flavouring) and lamb rump. It was a beautiful dining Experience a bit on the expensive side but the view from the top made it worth while.

One of the best experiences I have had dining. Great Location, great layout and suggest you book in advance especially if it is a special day. <br/>Starting off with the great view from the top of Sky Tower, the restaurant is neat and well presented. They note down the allergies my partner has when I made the booking and gave her a special menu. Staff were extremely friendly, and the food was very good. Very good experience if you have a bit of a budget. Strongly recommended for special occasions.
LisaH
Nice restaurant with stunning view. Food are very special but a little bit pricy as far as I am concerned. The portion is quite small. If you are a big eater please prepare for 5-6 course. The fish is my favorite, its broth is with complexity. Also I like the parfait, very summer style.
Sheena Singh
The views are amazing and the restaurant is beautiful. The service was very educational and friendly. Was disappointed with the size of the dishes. I understand its fine dining but you should never leave a restaurant hungry.

The Sugar Club is absolutely wonderful if you want to come here with your family or friends to experience a variety of beautiful dishes. I came here with my friends on 27 December and everyone had great experiences here. I will come back here again!

A experience not to be missed!<br/><br/>I went to The Sugar Club with a group of 6 on a week night and it did not disappoint!.<br/><br/>From the moment we arrived we were seated in the waiting area, sitting on comfy chairs with an amazing view from the top of the city.<br/><br/>An impressive well picked selection of local wines beers spirits and ciders but I went for an espresso martini and it was to die for.<br/><br/>15 minutes later we were seated the staff were so polite and so professional. The menu was really simple and well priced, You could get 6 meals for $120 per person<br/><br/>Any questions you had about the menu the staff were more than happy to answer and boy they really knew the menu right down to the finest detail.<br/><br/>The service here really matched the food each course came within 15 minutes of the last and ran like a well oiled machine the best part being that if you were getting too full you could cancel future courses with sufficient notice at no extra charge.<br/><br/>The actual food here was some of the best I've ever had it's really simple and sophisticated all wrapped up into one. Each course isn't tiny either they are quite substantial portions.<br/><br/>If you do require more food they have side option such as duck fat roasted potatoes and delicous broccolini.<br/><br/>All and all the sugar club is one of the best dining experiences I've ever had! I highly praise Chef Peter Gordon for creating such a great consistent restaurant with great atmosphere and great service. Definitely coming back!<br/>

I’m a huge fan of Peter Gordon from the time he had Dine on bottom of sky tower. <br/><br/>I’ve had 2 meals at the sugar club so far. First time for my birthday, and 2nd time for pre show dinner - which was a great value of $59 for 3 course meal. <br/><br/>I’m Japanese, and I’m generally not a huge fan of fusion dining as they are tend to be quite repetitive, and unoriginal. But peter sugar club is definitely an exemption. First time I went, there was marinated tuna fish with Japanese dashi broth. The broth was utterly exclusive, clear like consommé, and it’s made properly like you would in Japan. But yet his meal is still modern fusion, keeping traditional values. <br/><br/>The second time, I had a grilled octopus dish, but I almost thought I was eating a crayfish or prawn. The octopus was so tender, and juicy, and I could have eaten 3 plates. <br/><br/>I was slightly worried about the portion size, and wasn’t sure if it will be enough with just 3 dishes. But I was so satisfied with all the flavours that I didn’t need to have a bursting belly to be happily satisfied. <br/><br/>Although I love his food, the dessert can be a bit of a hit and miss. It was the same in sugar club too. It’s not as unique or exquisite as the entree and the main. I would actually rather have 2 entree and main than 1 entree, main and dessert. <br/><br/>The service is generally good. But last time, one of the waitress was too casually dressed that I couldn’t tell if it was a customer or a restaurant staff, and I was hesitant to ask as I did not was to embarrass myself. Also, the noise level can get high quite easily.<br/><br/>Would I ever go back? Heck yes.

Gorgeous setting, excellent service and food so good they will be forever etched in my memory. Came here for our 6th wedding anniversary. We were greeted by the best smiles and views to die for. We had the 6 course option a la carte and then added a 7th dish for dessert. We highly recommend the crayfish linguini. It will change your life forever.

Love going here the views are amazing. Also love the food here it’s amazing one of my favourite restaurants to go to in Auckland everything about it is really good. The staff is friendly and it’s always tidy .

Stunning view. Modern restaurant. Unprofessional staffs. Not 100% care about the customers. Foods are nice but customer service is very important too. I was so regret that I had chosen this restaurant on my birthday. When 2 staffs were introduced the foods , I was hardly understand them. I even needed to ask the waiter myself for the 'happy birthday' dessert treat which they gave everyone else when they had the special occasions. When I asked, they said they don't have any special for the birthday person .... then I asked if they can put the happy birthday words on my dessert plate ... they forgot about it and just said sorry !!!! Manager on duty was unprofessional as well. I was paying $400 for an unpleasant experience on my birthday !!! Won't go back again unless staffs are well- trained.

Another degustation menu we wanted to tackle, we were quite hungry so we got 6x dishes each but we told the waiter we wanted to share so we could have a taste of everything.<br/><br/>The ambience is the same as I remember it the times I've been over the years, it's nice and with an unbeatable view of course. Service is excellent from start to finish, they're so particular about it they even send a survey email the next checking up on it. Our waiter was great, we explained we wanted to share the dishes so he very helpful in that process and he told us that he was bringing out the dishes starting with lighter flavours up to the stronger flavours. <br/><br/>We had for mains, SESAME MISO JERUSALEM ARTICHOKES, CLEVEDON VALLEY BUFFALO MOZZARELLA , SPINY CRAYFISH AND TE ANAU SAFFRON LINGUINE, CREAMED PAUA, KIWI DIP, FRYBREAD, SEARED VENISON, COD AND CLOUDY BAY CLAMS, HOUHORA HERITAGE SUCKLING PIG and HAWKES BAY LAMB RUMP. For dessert, MANDARIN SORBET, DULCE DE LECHE, PEANUT BUTTER PARFAIT and YALOKA NI VONU. Washed down with a TOKYO CAFÉ, ASHLEY MADISON, MANGO  SMASH and a JD&Coke. An Hors d'oeuvre, palette cleanser and artisan bread were also included.<br/><br/>Everything was delicious and timed perfectly by our waiter. My favourite main was the creamed paua, kiwi dip, frybread, it's a clever and delicious play on kiwi favourites. The dulce de leche was the winning dessert for me, well balanced and not as sweet as you think it may be.<br/><br/>It was a great evening of really high standards and good at best. A little hit and miss with the food, hence the score but everything else was amazing. I think this is reflected in the restaurant itself as the survey only asked once if the food was good while every other question was about the service/experience. Give it a go for a great treat but the food just wasn't as great as I thought it would be for me personally.

If you have a special occasion and want to treat yourself in Auckland, there is no better place than The Sugar Club. It is truly an experience and the service and food was faultless.

The food is amazing. It’s like a new sensation each time you try something new. Staff was super friendly and service was amazing! The chefs degustation was brilliant!

This is the kinda place that I must visit at least once a year!! <br/>My absolute favourite dish is the crayfish linguini. Yes! Crayfish is delicious, and being Asian I usually eat it the Cantonese way. However, this small portion of creamy goodness definitely adds a different touch to my beloved cray cray.

Fine dining at it's best great atmosphere and environment, and welcoming.... me and partner did have the set menu at $265.00 pp, we did tip $100 but was well worth 2hr the experience. 🥂

We ordered 2 mains and a dessert each. The seared venison was very lovely, it was my favourite. The spiny crayfish and the peanut parfait were also quite nice. <br/><br/>The view was amazing from level 53. We were able to go up to the sky deck after dinner and it was so beautiful with the city lights.
Bring The Hot Sauce
Such a shame as we had heard great things but my partner got food poisoning 😬 the food was delish while we were eating it (had the degustation menu) until a few hours later 🤢. We rang up and informed them and initially they were quite defensive but eventually gave us a voucher to make up for it. Would go back but only for drinks! View is amazeballs!

This place is amazing for anniversaries, or just expensive dates! We did the 3mains and 1 dessert course meal, and gotta say the flavour of each dish was A M A Z I N G! BUT!! If u look for portion size.... its not that big nor filling. Service was excellent, veiw was wonderful, atmosphere was 10/8, was just a good experenice. One thing that let me down was the dessert. Not my style, just overly too sweet, could of done abit better but everyone's different!
Cnjo
Beautiful place with a wonderful view of the city. Very well thought out menu with amazing combinations. Ample parking and amazing staff. Would definitely revisit again!

We had the Degustation menu but chose our specific four courses <br/><br/>The food was absolutely fantastic. The lobster linguine was sensational a must order. It was all so delicious that it is difficult to say which was better but the Peanut Butter dessert was fantastic <br/><br/>We only ordered that between the four of us as we were so full. They had an Amuse Buche to start & a delicious Pear palate cleanser as well to finish the main meals
Austin
We went to the Sugar Club for a combined birthday. We started off with champagne in the bar watching the sunset and the went to our table.<br/><br/>Three of us chose three dishes and I chose four. Every dish was a taste sensation with the highlights being the crayfish linguine and much to my surprise the creamed Paua and dip. I had Paua in the early years and didn’t think much of it - this was in a different league.<br/><br/>We selected a French white and an Italian red by the carafe to go with the dishes.<br/><br/>The highlight of the evening was the birthday cake! See photo.<br/><br/>The service was fantastic and we certainly had a lot of food.<br/><br/>A must try in Auckland and we will be back.

Amazing food and experience! Excellent service. The view is on point as well. We felt very special. Definitely will come back. Thank you Evgeny Pozdeev

A wonderful dining experience, beautiful food and very attentive staff.<br/>Great to be able to enjoy views of the harbour whilst enjoying top quality food.<br/>Also excellent deal for restaurant month!

Cosy atmosphere, dim lighting, breathtaking views. Sets the scene! <br/><br/>On our recent visit, stand out dishes were the lamb rump, crayfish linguine and creamed paua. Delicious! Unfortunately, pork belly was dry. Thought the poached rhubarb + peanut butter parfait sounded an interesting combo at first, but personally didn't enjoy the ingredients together. Food on other occasions have been superb.<br/><br/>Their consistent level of service is what makes the entire experience exceptional. Attentive, bubbly and not overbearing.<br/><br/>Can't wait for our next visit already!<br/>
Aimee.
The atmosphere and the view here is stunning. The menu is very special and good for sharing because you can order a bunch of small sharing plates and try a little bit of everything. The food is fresh and unique.<br/><br/>Edit: I came here on the 26th of February again for my farewell dinner. They have a special fully vegan menu and degustation. The portions are still really more so you have to order 3-6 dishes in order to be fully. However, presentation and taste are both stunning.

Fabulous food and venue for Father's Day lunch. The staff couldn't have been more knowledgeable or helpful. The food was delicious and different. Spectacular views.
JenniferJ
Please remove the kids friendly environment for this place. Tried to book it for Father's Day lunch and was told there is nothing available for kids, I either have to order a full 3 course menu for my 3 years old child or there would be nothing to feed her. Very disappointing that they don't even try to come up with a solution that could accommodate us.
ShoRt
The view, the ambience and the great table service were well suited to this elegant restaurant. <br/><br/>Unfortunately, our 3 course a la carte meal was more towards the disappointing side, especially when paired with the pricing. I do enjoy my fine dining and definitely have money to spare on great food (trust me) but this was really overpriced for what it was. <br/>Bad luck as we got our restaurant month booking late by half an hour because we didn't read the fine print in the heartofaklcity website regarding the timing. The website also didn't specify anything about it. We were just so excited to get a slot, that when we sat down and was let down by the staff regarding the deal, we still decided to stay.... but alas to our own demise. <br/>Our 3 course meal were nearly double the price of the restaurant month deal, that is how much we wanted to try this place. <br/><br/>Yes, the crayfish linguine tasted delicious, but darn it, we didn't order 3 portions of it. The paua kiwi dip was interesting and had good flavour, the lamb rump was cooked well but flavours were average. Venison had a unique mix of fusion flavours. The complimentary breads were awesome but not enough to bump up the ratings in this review. <br/><br/>However, the pork belly was dry and the apple purée was so thick and did not balance out the pork. We had to send it back. The five spice duck was overpowering and flavour in the Asian salad was slightly sickening. The parfait also was not to my taste. <br/><br/>Dessert was also a let down.... the dulche de leche had a very strong flavour that I could not pinpoint and somehow did not pair well with the delicious and refreshing lychee sorbet. The cognac soaked fruits were also so overpowering it killed the dish. I probably would have loved a whole bowl of that lychee sorbet alone but prob not for $30 a pop. The peanut butter parfait was good but that rhubarb tasted like a crispy pickle? Then the chocolate dessert, was quite nice but not sure about the grainy sandy parsnip puree? <br/><br/>Maybe my palate is not refined enough for such overvalued food? Or maybe I have high expectations because of it and have been let down?
Mei
We had a private enclosure for our group. Auckland is lovely on a clear day especially viewed from the Skycity. Our waiter explained each dish and attentive. Food was amazing during August Auckland food month. It was the first time i had foam with the paua! Interesting taste of the sea. My second dish was the veal which fell off the bone and my fav. The third dish is the lamb which i thought was ordinary after the extraordinary. Will come again for sure.

Had dinner here tonight. Food was way better than I thought it would be. Tried a lot of things I'd never had before. The chef's degustation menu was awesome. Service was great and my group had an awesome time.

Great food and undoubtedly the best view in Auckland! They have a 59 dollar special for 3 course lunch and early dinner which is a great value. The mandarin sorbet was outstanding

just back from celebrating a dinner there,  was an amazing night out.<br/>Nothing to fault at all, best views in the city,  staff and service was great, and food was amazing.<br/>Favourites was the venison and the crayfish linquine,  but everything else was great. Thank you to adam who looked after us for the night, just the right personality we thought, friendly and attentive without being in the way all the time.  Would love to go back again. went through 6 dishes between 2 of us, and shared a desert and came out full to the top :)

I totally adore this place...My favourite fish is the crayfish leguine..Its the best dish ever though very rich..Onipn bhaji with tamring chutney was tasty ..Fish had wonderful mix of flavours and deserts were a pleasent finish...Ofcourse ill be back..Excellant view while you dine...

Firstly, the service is just immaculate! The staff are so friendly and attentive yet caring and helpful. Then to the food, I don't think I have enjoyed such an amazing dining experience for quite some time! The ingredients and flavours just all blend so well you feel like you've been missing out this whole time! Will definitely be back...

Beautiful food, cocktails and views to match. A great place for date night and their lunch special is great value. Love the desserts (their peanut butter parfait is one of the best I've ever had). Would return just for another one of those!

Excellent over all experience and would recommend! Great place to take out of towners to really show off.<br/><br/>Had an awesome time at the sugar club. Service is incredible. <br/><br/>We were able to sample several dishes off the menu. One of which, the crayfish linguine, is probably the yummiest thing I've ever eaten. Other courses were exceptional, aside from one disappointing course (the laksa). This was lukewarm and clams were chewy and overcooked. <br/><br/>One miss in an otherwise exceptional dining experience. Would definitely return!

This place was so fancy for me when I first came here. The staff are so pleasant. The meals are not things i would usually order but it was nice to try new food...which were yum!
Angela (A Style Collector)
This is a restaurant with the best view. The service was impeccable and the food lived up to my expectations. I had the curry which was excellent and was just right for me. The lamb and venison were great too. The whole experience was one of the best. For dessert, I had the cru virunga with tamarillo. I've never had tamarillo before and I really enjoyed it. This is definitely a place to come back to.

Amazing food - we had 3 courses each which was more than enough! Incredible views and a wonderful place to spend my birthday. The staff were amazing as well and very knowledgeable.
Vibha Mistry
An amazing experience. We were late because of traffic but they didn't mind. Stunning views. Food was excellent and cocktails were delicious. Will definitely return.

Maybe it's just us. There were 5 of us there so basically we've ordered everything from the menu except the desserts. None of the dishes is satisfying, either too sour or too salty.  The view is great and the staffs are nice (mostly) and knowledgeable and helpful, although we didn't get the birth plate like everyone else.  Are we going back again? Shotgun NO.

The Sugar Club offers fine dining at the "highest level". Situated on level 53 of Auckland's Sky Tower, here you can enjoy a bird's eye view of the city below, only to be occasionally intruded by "SkyWalkers". We went as part of a large group and so had the benefit of ordering everything on the menu.

Beautiful restaurant, my husband booked for my birthday, very elegant, delicious food , great service , highly recommended, we had the 5 course menu , loved all dishes

My wife and I dined here last night to celebrate our 12 year anniversary, we had the 7 course Chef’s Degustation with matching wines. Dinner was amazing and the service was awesome, thanks for the memorable experience.
Dawn
Fantastic views, and excellent service, the food is delicious, we have been there to celebrate my husband birthday, the waiter gave us a special birthday dish. I definitely will go back again.

Celebrated engagement here with a group. Had a. Exclusive section booked out for us. They compliment the couple with champagne and dessert. Provided a set menu for the group with a delightful selection. It's fine dining. Portion and small but flavorful. The views are incredible out to the harbor. It was a very memorable night for us all.

Loved my experience here! Every meal had so much thought placed in to it and I loved every single on of them! The view of course is incredible and really adds to the romantic atmosphere. The service was great and very attentive! <br/>Will definetly be back! I completely recommend going at least once to anyone, not only to appreciate the views but the food as well!!

Note this is a brief review of their vegetarian menu. <br/><br/>Chose a 4 course including dessert which for the most part was lacklustre. The peanut butter dessert was pretty good but for the dollars you're paying at this place, most of it should be amazing. I suspected one or two of the dishes components had been sitting there over prepared for some time. <br/><br/>The setting and atmosphere are fabulous. And the cocktails are great too. <br/><br/>I'll head up there again for a drink but not for dinner.

Fine dining at its best.<br/><br/>Just one quick tip: reserve early if u are planning for a special occasion. I had wanted to come here on my bf's bday and tried to reserve online 2 weeks before that but it was fully booked. So I decided to bring him here on our anniversary instead.<br/><br/>First up, I have to commend on the service. We arrived early and asked The Sugar Club reception on the ground floor if we could go up to the Sky Cafe first. The staff was polite and helpful, and invited us to pop by the bar if we still had free time after that.<br/><br/>When we entered The Sugar Club, we were warmly welcomed and attended to. We had a window table which was perfect and were introduced to the menus. Our waiter had good knowledge of the degustation menu, explaining to us that the dishes are arranged from subtle to strong flavours. He then brought us some bread after taking our orders.<br/><br/>We went for the 3 dishes option which allowed us to choose 6 different dishes altogether (including choice of desserts). We were aware that the portions were going to be small as it's a degustation experience but we both left the restaurant happy and full.<br/><br/>Every dish that we had was really good. My bf and I particularly enjoyed the crayfish linguine and peanut butter parfait. I like the fish of the day too which had a flavourful broth. We were also given a complimentary soup and dessert to stimulate our taste buds. After we were finished, we were surprised with a congratulatory dish that had "Happy Anniversary" on it, even though I didn't plan for anything special.<br/><br/>Throughout the entire night, I found the service and food to be spotless. Staff were very attentive and when the setting sun was starting to get to us, they lowered the blinds and then raised it up again when the sun had fully set so that everyone could enjoy the city's night lights. After our dinner, our waiter walked us out to the lift lobby and pressed the button for us. I felt like a very valued customer the entire night.<br/><br/>With a minimum spending of $40, u get discounted parking at Sky City too.<br/><br/>I would strongly recommend this place for special dates. If u are lucky, u might even get to see people doing the Skywalk just outside your window.

Celebrating the diverse cultures of Auckland city, I believe The Sugar Club has carefully crafted each and every single dish with a deeper meaning behind the dishes which are being presented in front of us.<br/><br/>Stunning views, with bursting flavours in the mouth. This is definitely a restaurant you'd bring someone whom you want to impress. Great celebratory venue for groups or just a girls night out. (Oh - did I tell you that they've got a range of cocktails that you'll be spoilt for choice?!!)<br/><br/>Fabulous culinary experience, with great service.<br/><br/>P/S: you'll get parking discount if you dine here.. make sure you get the crew to stamp your tickets. <br/>

My husband booked us a table for my birthday and I must say initially I was a bit nervous at the price of it all and hoping that it was going to be all worthwhile. Wow- it certainly was! The service was top notch. Everything was on point. We ordered a couple of cocktails and one of them that my husband ordered was a recommendation by the waiter but he didn’t like it- the waiter came back and offered to take it away and got him to order a different one. So observant and nice not to have to drink a $20 cocktail that he wasn’t happy with. We both did the 3 dishes each and honestly was so full afterwards. The waiter knew that we wanted to try/share it all so he was lovely and bought each dish out seperatly and divided into two.We ordered the following:<br/>- Creamed Paua- was lovely and well-presented and delicate flavours<br/>-Spiny Crayfish Linguine- YUMMMMMM this was my favourite dish<br/>- Laksa- interesting flavours, enjoyed it with whitebait<br/>- Beef Fillet- another highlight, the beef full of flavour with a smoky taste<br/>-Panna Cotta –Intesting flavours, light and refreshing- my husband didn’t like it much but I didn’t mind it at all<br/>- Peanut butter parfait- This was beautiful especially with the sesame on it.<br/>Overall all on point-food/service and not to mention the view.

Absolutely loved The Sugar Club! We dined with them back when they had the restaurant month deal and I thought it was great value. Each dish was delicious and unique. Amazing ambience and good service too.

Food here was suppppperb. Very classy place in Skycity with a casual confortable feel when dining. Dress smart and enjoy the awsome menu here at Sugar Club.

My boyfriend and I visited The Sugar Club earlier this month to celebrate our anniversary. Luckily, the weather was good that day so we were treated to impressive views of the sunset over Auckland. My boyfriend selected the vegan degustation menu, and I went with the vegetarian. I have to say, given the price we paid for the food and the glowing reviews, we were somewhat disappointed. My boyfriend thought the vegan menu was a mix of 'average' and overpowering dishes, flavourwise. I liked a couple of the items on the vege menu (namely the snacks and linguine), but everything else was also either average or overpowering. While the individual elements are nice, we felt that the flavors overall didn't balance well enough. I think this is a restaurant that caters well to meat eaters, but if you don't eat meat, your choices are limited. If you're vegetarian, I would suggest ordering from their a la carte menu. If you're vegan, you're better off going somewhere else... The service was excellent though. Attentive, but unobtrusive. We were there for 3 hours, and they made no effort to hurry us along. The 'happy anniversary' plate was also a lovely touch.

Went in very ambitious and thought we would be able to complete the 5 course meal, the waitress advised us that the meals despite some being smaller than others; were quite filling. Very happy with this experience, highly recommend going just before the sun sets for breath taking views. Great food, very well presented and delicious.
Lily
Went there in the restaurant of the month with friend. Amazing view. Food is so nice and the services. They give you small food between dishes to get fresh taste for the next one. I will definitely come back again.

First time here and it is fancy as , haha I have to admit. Nice setting and mood. Great way to bring ur partner here on your anniversaries or dinner date. Pricey but hey, paying for the delicious food and amazing view from the sky tower! <br/><br/>Got myself a 3 main course and desserts <br/><br/>Love the entrée :) <br/><br/>I had hamhock terrine , linguine and the beef fillet. <br/>My favourite dish is the hamhock terrine. The meat was tender and love the extra that was on the plate. <br/>Kina cream taste amazing :) <br/><br/>The crayfish linguine was amazing as well. With pine nuts mixed with it , makes it taste better. I'm allergic to cray fish but that was definitely worth a try! <br/><br/>The beef fillet is amazing as well. Cooked medium . :) <br/><br/>Deserts : I had the Peanut butter parfait <br/>It's sweet. Really sweet . But a good way to end the amazing night :) <br/><br/>👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing views + good food. You can either do a degustation menu (which is a fixed menu of 7 dishes for $135), or choose ur own from a list of dishes (min 3 dishes pp, including dessert if you want). <br/><br/>Went with my family of 6 so we decided to go ala carte, so we could cover as many of the items available (see pictures attached).<br/><br/>My favourite meals this time was the teriyaki Aubergine dish, salmon amuse-bouche and the fish of the day (great fish +great cook, and also had a delicious broth and good quality oyster!). My family (who has never been to places like this before), had a good laugh at the Laksa portion, as it was really tiny. If you're a true Malaysian and love your laksa, best to stick somewhere like papparich (for portion) or uncle mans. To be fair, I didn't try it - I'm sure it was great, but not the right place if you want to satisfy your laksa cravings.<br/><br/>My favourite dessert out of all was the peanut butter dessert. The oolong panna cotta was interesting and light, but not quite to my taste. <br/><br/>The cheese platter had a great selection of cheeses (sorry, I don't know what all 4 were - one of them was definitely blue cheese). The crackers used looked like they ones you could get from new world though. Was hoping it would come with freshly made crackers from the store, which was a little disappointing, but not unreasonable. <br/><br/>Overall, another great night out. I had 3 dishes + 1 dessert and I was stuffed.<br/><br/>Also, we went about 630-8, and the sun was a bit annoying. Don't go around that time in summer if you're sensitive to sun glares!
Fiona
Like everything here, it was a great feasting there with good serves and beautiful sign. Before every meal we have a pre-taste which are little amazing.
Choco
Celebrated my birthday here and it was my first time dining at Sky. I had ordered from the three course menu. Well, the dessert is always my favourite, however, in this case, the dessert was limited for vegetarians(proud to be one). I wish they had introduced more choices for dessert. The experience of viewing the whole city is of course the best part of it all.

Best fine dining restaurant I have ever had the privilege of trying. I took my partner here for his birthday and he was blown away by the view, food and service. Don't have anything to complain about at all. The perfect spot for any special occasion. Will not disappoint
Max Edinarkhov
The best food I've ever had in Auckland. Higly recommend 6 course menu. I like it even more than French café. Service is also 5 star.
Bella Qian
Definitely a great place for dates. The dishes were well presented with very interesting flavours. Personal favourites were the crayfish linguine and the peanut butter parfait. However, I feel as if it was overpriced as there are many more better fine dining restaurants out there. You are mainly paying for the view. So if you do choose to go, make sure it's a special occasion. Overall service was good and our waitress was very nice. Of course, the view was spectacular.
Frank
Fine dining at its most glorious! Whilst you are loftily sitting hundreds of metres above the illuminated city skyline, being served deliciously sublime works of art, with the friendliest service, you feel like you have been transported into another realm. There is no other place like it in Auckland. One option is to choose the chef's degustation, but we decided to choose our own dishes, and all were fantastic. Particular highlights included the creamy paua dip with their take on fry bread, the crayfish saffron linguine (wow) and the whitebait laksa (even more wow) and for dessert the chocolate semifreddo. We superbly enjoyed the entire evening which concluded with post dinner barside cocktails, in their classy relaxed seating area, overlooking the harbour.

Great service <br/>Great wine range <br/>Great view <br/>Fantastic staff!<br/>I have enjoyed every second of my visit to the sugar club because of their bubbly staff members! I will definitely visit again soon

The primary purpose of our visit to Auckland was to attend the wedding of my wife's uncle, which was receptioned at The Sugar Club, so as a preface, I can't make comment on value for money as we didn't pay for the meal, nor did we have a choice in the dishes that had been offered except that they were menu items selected to offer a choice in our dining.<br/><br/>Atmosphere - Well, this one is pretty easy to say it was very well done. As a fine dining establishment, they had the sky high city views, almost 360 degrees around the platform.  The furnishings were stylish, almost like a retro/vintage club feel, which was in theme with the whole 'Sugar Club' and that post-prohibition age of excess in the US.  We were greeted with a glass of sparkling rose however I am aware that it was part of the reception package, rather than standard service.<br/><br/>Our seating was westward facing to see the sunset, which was lovely, and they raised the shade blinds once the sun had set sufficiently over the mountain range to not blind you, before dusk truly set in.  The table settings were simple, however they chose to add and replace cutlery through the meal, rather than set the full array of cutlery, most likely due to it being more cost economical for washing as different dishes required different cutlery.  The lamps were pretty cool but my only complaint was that they had hung them pretty low. I am 176cm tall and the top of my head was contacting the bottom of the lights! Definitely have to be careful about that.<br/><br/>The reception dinner was a four course meal, as three mains and a desert.  The choices I made were the kingfish with nori and wasabi cream dressed with a ponzu sauce, lamb rump with gnocchi, line caught fish on a dashi and mussel broth with tempura oyster, and a chocolate assortment desert including a semifredo, dark chocolate cake and tamarind sauce. My wife made her choices include a creamed paua kiwi dip, and a peanut butter desert.<br/><br/>The quality of the food was excellent. We were also served amuse-bouche (palate cleansers) at the start before, and then after the mains.  The flavours for the dishes were quite well though out, and presentation were mostly nice, but as all fine dining goes, you generally don't get very much at all in your serves.  The sashimi kingfish was very delicate in flavour, which went much better with the wasabi cream, as the nori was a bit too salty. The gnocchi has to be the most soft and fluffy I have ever had, with an incredible texture and bounce to it.  I did find the lamb a little on the rare side for me, and it took a little more effort to cut than I was expecting, so either it was a touch tougher than it could have been or their knives need some sharpening. Taste wise however it was excellent.  I found the dashi very flavoursome but a bit on the saltier side, even when paired with the rest of the dish elements and I was sad that there was only two bites of the tempura oyster as it was amazingly well cooked.  Chocolate tamarind was a sharp contrast which did help stop the bitterness of the dark chocolate cake overpower the rest of the desert, and the semifredo, wow, just incredible in its texture and smoothness.  Well done indeed.<br/><br/>Now, after that glowing review on the food, you have to wonder why I only gave it a 3.5.  Unfortunately, as far as a fine dining experience goes, the wait staff were a bit frazzled. They didn't explain initially that they would be explaining what was in the dishes served, so after laying it out infront of the guests, some had started to eat by the time they came around to each table to re-hash what was on their partially eaten plates! This then of course made some of the guests feel a little embarassed that they had started eating before they were 'supposed' to.  Further to this, the wait staff did also forget what was on some of the dishes! I know that its a lot to memorise, but if you're going to be fine dining and offer a table-side spiel about what is being served, you need to do it right, or you just make yourself look silly.  Such as calling the line-caught fish salmon, when.... it was clearly not any form of salmon. I still actually don't know what it was (it was a white-fish of some kind).<br/><br/>The other point which has made me decide to put a lower score, is the facilities. I know it is fine dining, but we're now in the age where we have modern families.  Which include having children attending fine dining places, which also includes infants.  No high-chairs, no children's chairs. I do give them kudos for providing some form of children's alternatives for the three children there.  No suitable facilities to conduct a baby change.  Our baby was extremely well behaved through the evening, slept for a good half of it, and then was passed around like pass-the-parcel between grandparents, great grandparents, and relatives.  But of course the inevitable has to happen, and we ended up having to change her, On.The.Floor. I don't think it would have been that big an ask to perhaps have a folding change table kept in the ladies bathroom, and perhaps just one high chair kept somewhere in a store-room on the off-chance.<br/><br/>Yes, its fine dining, but you might not think you'd have a baby as a guest.  Well, this place now certainly has. I hope that their experience now of having us change the baby on the floor, infront of other guests who were not part of our reception party, may help them consider to look into such additional facility or services.<br/><br/>tl;dr - Well thought out menu, excellent food as far as fine dining goes, serving staff need to brush up on their menus, great atmosphere, lack of suitable facilities for infants.

Great atmosphere and view!! <br/>Service was great and the staff were all lovely but the food was very average. <br/>I highly recommend to go for the atmosphere but if you want amazing food then you'll probably be disappointed.

Highly recommend this restaurant- been here several times and always have had a great experience. The staff are well educated about the current menu and look after people with allergies.
Trish
Can't rate this place any higher. Love this place, breathtaking views, beautiful food and amazing service. There again tonight, had a four course, protein overload and then dessert that left me and others totally satisfied. Staff very attentive but not intrusive. Great location with great food.
Travels4Food
Very impressed by the quality, food flavours and view of the sugar club. They even include free parking and entry to the observatory. So very worth it when we went during restaurant month. The saffron crayfish linguini reminds me of an asian twist with the egg noodles equivalent. The chocolate dessert was one layer after another of decadence and the steak was a classic with a very rich jus. Yum.

Spectacular food. We were sitting in the little lounge area beside the bar and ordered from the bar menu. Our only gripe was the  could not put crushed ice in our drink. The waiter kept returning to say they couldn't do it. I would expect crushed ice at an establishment of this quality. In the end, our bill was also wrong and we had to wait until the novice waiteress fixed it (standing for 5 mins) in front of her.
Hungusmcfatty
Great option for Restaurant Month, offering 2 savoury dishes and 1 dessert. Luxe with a touch of whimsy is how I'd describe the interior. Similarly, the service is professional yet friendly. Highly recommend the lamb shoulder with pakora as well as the langoustine (scampi) with black garlic aioli. The dessert was a nice touch -but the mains (and the view) stole the show.
Eden Wood
Outstanding food and service. Views are incredible and the decor is very sophisticated. We came here for a 5 course set menu and it was absolutely delectable. One of the best fining dining restaurants in Auckland. Would highly recommend!

Second time coming here this month, because it's so amazing! I got the beef fillet croquette, and my boyfriend got the venison. Both spectacular. I chose to get a hearty dish to start because the weather was shocking, windy and cold. For mains I got the pork rendang and dessert I got the vahlrona chocolate, unfortunately it was overwhelmingly dense it needed a sorbet or ice cream to help swallow as it was a bit too dry. My boyfriend got the peanut butter parfait which he loved. Love coming here, the service and atmosphere is always perfect.
Michelle Hwang
Do I need to say any word? Nobody does not know there and nobody does not like there. What I want to say is all included in my photos. They are still offering $ 59.00 for 3 courses deal. Lovely price and excellent service.
Chelsea
Went for #Restaurant of the Month# menu, I've already been here so second visit is less blown away but still amazing. We had window seats and the view is spectacular! It sits at the highest level ( 53) in the Sky tower, this is the level for Skywalk and Skyjump. You have the entire night view of Auckland CBD out of the window, all these vehicles drive thru Harbour  bridge looks like a bunch of moving flames, so beautiful! If I have to recommend only one restaurant in Auckland I'd say The Sugar club. Two of us ordered two clayfish linguine, it's the dish to die for, also ordered fish and beef, all perfect. Dessert is a bit let down, too sweet to our taste. Although I don't like Masu but their dessert is the best I've ever tasted. The only drawback is the small portion size to some people, to us it's just about right but we also ordered potato toasties as side. Overall you must go if you haven't been yet!

Had an amazing dinner here last night with friends. All the staff were so warm and friendly and the whole vibe was just perfect - it's like a high class restaurant in a comfortable atmosphere with amazing food. Every dish was perfect and tasted amazing! Great wine list, lots of quality NZ wines to choose from. The peanut butter dessert was the highlight for me. Can't wait to go back another time soon!

Wow, just wow! I tried The Sugar club last week for the first time and was absolutely blown away. To start with, the view was spectacular, the service was perfect - attentive but not too intrusive & the staff were all friendly and fantastic. Then we come to the food. AMAZING - the flavors were spot on. Every dish I had was fantastic. I even tried some of my friends dishes and they were amazing too. Finally dessert was to die for. So delicious I wanted to eat more even though I was absolutely stuffed. My dessert was the mandarin short bread and although it sound simple it was anything but. I loved it! Although it is one of the higher priced restaurants, it is definitely a must visit. Besides where else can you get amazing food while enjoying and amazing view!

I had heard amazing things about the place prior to going and everything was just perfect. When making a booking, the attendee was very polite and even asked if it was for some occasion. It was for my mums birthday! The food was delicious and it was hard not to get food envy by looking at others plates. Initially I thought the portions were small (although the waiter did tell us they would be) the 2 dishes plus dessert really did fill me up. All five of us were very content with the meals! On top of the stunning view and vibe of the place, they surprised my mum with a birthday dessert 👍🏼 would highly recommend for special occasions!

Everything I expected and more - The Sugar Club is one of Aucklands finest, located on the top floor of the Skytower.  The food is just outstanding and the views are obviously one of a kind.  The waiter we had was great; very attentive and took the time to talk us through the menu and courses.  It was a great experience and I hope to dine here again very soon.

If you are after some wow factor for that special date or celebration - look no further. The degustation menu takes your taste buds on a journey that you will never forget. <br/><br/>The creativity of Peter Gordon's menu is evident and the execution of all his genius is nothing short of perfection. <br/><br/>The service, spectacular views and food makes for an unforgettable experience. Thank you Chef and the team at the Sugar Club for giving us the best dining experience one could hope for.

Great service, spectacular views. Quality wine and spirit list and amazing local food! A must do when in this cosmopolitan city. Jumped off the tower as well lol!

Absolutely amazing experience here.<br/>Well worth the price.<br/>From the food to the views, customer service and they environment everything was outstanding and was a fantastic afternoon. <br/>I wish I took a few pictures of the meals but I was to busy enjoying it.
Charlie
Absolutely wonderful place!! I took my wife here for Mothers Day and didn't realise that reservations were required, however the friendly staff saw there was an empty table and allocated us to it and saved the day...<br/>I can't complement the staff enough for their attentiveness and friendliness. <br/>I had four courses of kingfish, soft shell crab, beef and followed by the rhubarb dessert. Absolutely wonderful flavours, all combined to create this awesome experience...<br/>It is pricey but worth every penny!<br/>I can't think of any area to improve.

Went here for the first time to celebrate my mums 50th. We got the private dining room which was nice with stunning views. Service is excellent. We went for the 5 course degustation, best dish would definitely be the duck breast salad and the peanut butter parfait was amazing! However, portion size is a lot smaller than other degustation restaurants I have been to, but I guess we are paying for the view and location. Overall was a great experience and nice that Peter Gordan came out to meet us, that was a lovely surprise.

Went for 3course meal for lunch on Saturday.<br/>Really enjoyed my experience with sugar club.<br/>Excellent service, amazing food and great view of harbour bridge.<br/>Definitely will visit again!!<br/>Start from entree to dessert nothing was disappointed.

Had an amazing night with work team. We had the 7 course degustation and loved it. The team were very helpful and friendly, they made sure we were happy at all times. Would recommend to everyone 👌

Ordered the crayfish linguine, soft-shelled crab, lamb, beef, aubergine, and peanut butter parfait for dessert. Highlight was the crayfish linguine, simply perfection. <br/><br/>Service was fantastic, an intro provided with every single dish serving; as well as a starter and palette cleanser just before dessert was served. <br/><br/>The view from our table was amazing, as was the one from the observation deck which we visited after dinner. <br/><br/>All in all a great place for that special occasion.
Daniel Kinnoch
Amazing service, and decadent food which was well presented and was an art piece in itself. We visited for Restaurant Month in 2015 and I would encourage people to wait out for this deal again this year. Was excellent value for money. <br/><br/>The views are incredible, and even though we did not have a window seat, you could still see out over the city when walking through the restaurant - and you nonetheless have the chance to enjoy the view for free before your meal from the observatory area of the tower. So make sure you arrive a little earlier so you can take advantage of this. You will also get free car-parking, so make sure you let them know downstairs before you head up the tower that you have parked at SkyCity.<br/><br/>Service was attentive, and the dishes were explained in detail to us when they were brought out, which is great as you cannot always remember what all the ingredients were once you've had the menus taken away. The portion sizes were just right. Someone was always on hand to refill water.<br/><br/>This is an Auckland institution that you must visit.
Chloe-Mae
Came here last night for a birthday dinner :-) <br/>Was incredible the linguine was my fav dish, we got the 3 course option and was more than enough food left with full bellys, pricing was reasonable if you add in the fact you get a trip up the sky tower and parking inc. my only down fall would be- I booked a month or so in advance and requested a window seat and mentioned it was my birthday. We didn't get window seat which the couple who did sat on there phones playing candy crush the WHOLE time and did not acknowledge the view I know it's to the restraunts fault but was just abit strange.... Anywho will be back again 😋
Jade :-)
WOW.......where do I start. we dined here the other night and the food was absolutely exquisite. bursting with flavour and looking like a work of art. great service from all the staff and gorgeous surroundings. we just cannot wait to come back

It was our 5th visit to this restaurant and past 4 visits I have been raving about the food ,experience and the service at this restaurant however at our last visit on Saturday 30th April 2016 things didn't go very well. We arrived and were greeted and taken to our table. Then we had a waiter attend our table for the orders for food and drinks. For food we went for 4 courses and a dessert. Our drinks arrived and were very nice as usual, however when our dinner arrived the first course was mixed up with someone else and on the 2nd course I pointed out that there seems to be a mistake with the orders. The waiter who took our order came to the table and rectified this and then for the entire time we were there it seemed like our waiter had changed. I was disappointed the experience that level of mistake at such a high end restaurant. For sure won't be going there in a hurry.

I am all for praise here. Fairly priced food. Good portions. Great environment. Attentive staff. I liked it. I would say the food is of excellent quality and the variety of small dishes and Asian fusion was a treat to sample. Very Good for dinning.

Great Night out with my Wife for our Wedding Anniversary,  Peanut butter dessert was The best ........ Staff were great fast service and made the night a special Occasion
MSingh
My wife and I had a wonderful time celebrating our wedding anniversary at The Sugar Club.  We have been wanting to go for a while and this was an occasion to celebrate.  From the time you step out of the lift to the time you leave the staff really go out of their way for you.  Everything was just perfect, and what an amazing view we had.  <br/><br/>We started at the bar having arrived earlier than our reservation, and the drinks were fantastic (especially the Martinis made by Timo).  My wife and I were blown away when our host Ana moved us to a special table overlooking West Auckland, and she looked after us so well through the night with great recommendations and a good sense of humour.  She, like the rest of the staff that hosted us through the night, are a real credit to The Sugar Club - you get the feeling that they really enjoy what they do and it adds to the experience.  We can't thank her enough.<br/><br/>The food! I can fully understand why people rave about the Linguine - it was just amazing, as was everything else.  The Kingfish also deserves a special mention (particularly as I am not generally a fan of raw meat), it was sublime.  We had four courses each and in hindsight three would have been enough for us, but everything looked so good on the menu I may have gotten a bit greedy.  I felt the price was reasonable for what we got and its an experience we won't forget anytime soon. <br/><br/>We both left feeling on top of the world (or at least Auckland) and cannot wait to go back.  We have some friends from overseas arriving soon who absolutely need to experience what we did.

It was our 3rd visit to The Sugar Club & I must say they consistently 'get it right' - the perfect balance of kiwi friendliness & passionate foodie is displayed by all their staff.<br/>Views are amazing from their level 53 location of the Sky Tower. Tables are well placed, but my only gripe would be that some more intimate tables would be ideal for special occasions.<br/>The beverage list is good - lots of options. We asked for recommendations to match our courses & they worked well. Italian reds & a cocktail for our dessert course - all delicious.<br/>We started with sparkling water, breads from L'ouef with butter & an amuse bouche. A great start to the meal (3 courses for $90).<br/>Our first courses were the scallops - perfectly fresh & cooked well with a sweet corn purée & mushrooms. Also the kingfish served raw - fresh & delicious.<br/>All courses are presented to you with the waiter describing the ingredients on your plate - a work of art! Well done to the wait staff for remembering every detail & presenting this so well.<br/>Our mains were steak beautifully cooked medium in a salad with fresh ingredients & chimichurri. And the snapper with a broth & tempura whitebait. Mouth watering!<br/>We were served a palate cleanser prior to our desserts which was perfect.<br/>For desserts we chose the chocolate with smoked banana (very smoky but an interesting contrast) & caramel. And the tapioca with mango, passionfruit & pineapple. Both were yum!<br/>Another great visit when considering location, service, beverages, & of course food. Can't wait to visit again!

This venue, with all it's hype, left me underwhelmed sadly. We arrived for the earlier dinner seating, and under our table clearly hadn't been vacuumed from the lunch seating- food crumbs a plenty! And I mean plenty! Also the window we were seated next to to peruse the amazing view, was rather dirty. I have allergies, and though the service was so great, they put a dish in front of me FULL of the thing I'm allergic to - cashew nuts! Thankfully I didn't dive in but checked, and sure enough.... We took international guests there due to the view and hype, but it didn't wow me at all. I wasn't a huge fan of the fusion cuisine at Peter Gordon's previous Sky City incarnation, Dine, so maybe his food just isn't for me. Doesn't live up to other Auckland top eateries or the ones below on Federal St. Better fine dining options out there for the price tag.

The food was great. Our waiter Harry made our day! My niece and my father was so surprised when you sang happy birthday song to them! Thank you for your great service! You were so funny, kind, patient, friendly. Thank you Harry for an outstanding night.

Absolutely top notch. Dined here for lunch & took advantage of the 3 course $59.00 deal which was awesome value. Everything about this place is perfect the view, the decor, the service & most importantly the food. All courses we had were amazing. It can be a little pricey but I would definitely recommend for a special occasion or to take advantage of any promotions they have going if you are wanting to visit.

Just can't get enough of this place! Went three times in the space of two weeks. Fantastic atmosphere, divine food and excellent service. The drinks are to die for as well- especially that rose lukum! Will be back for sure :)

We went with two other couples for my husbands birthday and we're lucky enough to be seated in the private section. Our waiter was outstanding and had a brilliant sense of humour, the drinks were lovely and the food (degustation) was brilliant the normal menu perhaps more so than the vegetation which two of us had. Prices aren't cheap, more of a special occasion restaurant however with service, food and a view to die for there are no complaints here

Not friendly for the kids! If you don't want kids come just let us know, just so unhappy that very very unfriendly for us! Very bad. The meal is ok but just cannot focus on them because of that bad unfriendly attitudes to the kids. Just wanna tell them, they are just kids, and they are not talking loudly. So next time you guys just set a sign to say: Children, Kids, Baby are not welcome so the customers can know it before they go there. In a word, nice chef! But the staff Just terrible services!

Great place to go for something different. Interesting and refreshing menu with delicious fresh food, everything we ordered we enjoyed. Service was very friendly and accommodating. Although it's a more up market spot, it didn't feel too pretentious or flashy. Highly recommend!

Not surprisingly: loved the food, loved the view, loved the service, loved the decor, and loved the ambiance. Celebrated a birthday with the 7 course degustation which beautifully show-cased a wide array of flavours, colours, textures and core ingredients as you can see in the pictures! Favorite dish (we both could agree on): Scallops with sweetcorn puree -well balanced and scrumptious. Least preferred dish: dessert -rhubarb with green apple sorbet -a bit too much on the sour side and weirdly a bit too cold. Have to add a most surprising dish: Mushrooms with ketchup! Definitely worthy of any celebration you have.

Spectacular view! And undoubtedly 5 star for the great service. Came here for the pre birthday celebration, I had a quick glance of the reservation list, couldn't believe there were so many Scorpio in the house haha. We decided to go for the chef' degustation me he since we really didn't know what to order ... <br/>The food: - 7 course degustation menu.<br/>Personally I did not like the cocktail (Tokyo café), it tasted like the Chinese herbal medicine.. And the dessert, a bit too sour for me. <br/>The King fish & scallops were seriously fresh and beautiful. The duck breast and lamb loin, amazing. The mushroom dish was pretty interesting. There are so much creativity in the food! Will come back again soon....

My lovely friend got me the luxurious package which includes a very relaxing Spa treatment from East Day Spa and lunch at The Sugar Club ! I was super excited to try out The Sugar Club as I have heard many people raving around how amazing it . We were on our way up to The Sugar Club so anxious but so ready to try this overly talked about resturant. I had my nearly One year old son with me as well and he was so intrigued about the view from the top, he was absolutely stunned and so was I. The first thing I do when I get to any resturant when I am with my son is ask for a baby highchair. So I asked one of the waitresses if there was a highchair available she went off to find out and didn't come back, so the next person I talked to was (I assume) the manager. He said "We do not provide highchairs to our resturant as it makes it look unappealing " I asked if there was a option to grab one from the resturant downstairs (The Orbit) and He said "No we can't" I didn't get an apology or anything. I was so disappointed, I wasn't in the resturant for even 5 minutes and I was appalled with what service I was given. Being a annoyed mother I started complaining to my friends about how I felt , and that It felt like they didn't want my son and I there. I think the manager over heard and all of a sudden all the "Sorry's" started flowing in. After that it didn't bother me so much, I just got over it and wanted to try the FOOD. Plus my son quite enjoyed sitting in the big boy chair and getting all the attention from customers getting clucky over him :-) . I had a Spiny Crayfish and Otago Saffron Linguine, and wow it was a breath taking meal! I had never had anything so delicious and creamy. Every ingredient fitted perfectly with each other. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. For desert I had Solomon's gold 75% chocolate sorbet , so delicious and I devoured most of it so fast but was a bit too sweet for my liking. Other than what I experienced at the start trust what everyone else says about the resturant . The food is superb!

I was terribly upset and disappointed with the customer service. I went there on Nov 19 at about 4:30 pm with my husband and son. We wanted to try out the bar and so approached the lady at the reception desk. She was on phone with probably somebody making enquiries. She did not even look up at us or acknowledge us. We waited for 5 whole mins without being acknowledged. Finally, my husnand interrupted her saying "sorry to interrupt you, we have a question". She did not even look up but rudely pointed to the phone and continued on. After another few minutes, when she was done with her phone conversation, she rudely asked what we wanted. No apologies for making us wait, no smile, no hello. When we told her we just wanted to try the bar, she said " the bar opens at 5. You want to wait?". My husband told her, " well, you could have let us known that more than 5 mins before". She just rudely said - " didnt you see I was on the phone". This has been the rudest & most unwelcome behavior I have ever seen at a restaurant. I wonder why she couldnt have asked the person on phone to hold for a few seconds and acknowledged us and requested us to wait while she finished her call. Or atleast, smiled and said sorry for keeping us waiting after she was done with the call. Not sure if this is some sort of personal discrimination or if this is the way the restaurant treats their customers.

We went there to celebrate our first year wedding anniversary and it was amazing, from start to end. Service was impeccable, the location and view are perfect. The good was great. We did the Chef Degustation Menu and it was an amazing experience. I didn't love all the dishes, specially deserts, but overall the food was great too. Looking forward to going back! I love everything about this restaurant. the staff was so friendly, we felt really unique in this place. The waitress was so kind and she explain the menu to us. The view was fantastic! We could see the sunset. At the beginning we had to choose 4 main, but I wanted to try everything. I guess we have to come back soon. We order Nelson Scallops, Savannah beef fillet, Freedom farms pork rendag and Hawkes bay lamb loin, everything was platted perfect, right temperatures and all the flavors was sensational. We order for dessert Solomon´s gold 75% chocolate sorbet and Peanut butter parfait and blackberry jelly. In my opinion that chocolate dessert was the best of the night, all the textures and flavors combined perfectly. The price is a little bit high, but it worth it. I will definitely recommend this place.

Interesting menu, with some star dishes. Languistine was great, along with the crayfish linguine. Not consistent however, as the beef with chimichuri was so overpowering it was barely edible. The paua dish was not particularly coherent, and the fish of the day dish was nothing to write home about. <br/>Service was impeccable, but no ambiance to write home about. Nothing like the Taste of yesteryear!
Chelsea Chian
Spectacular view and great atmosphere, we went for dinner and watched the sunset across harbour bridge. the crayfish linguine is amazing, best dish ever!
Rona Dalgleish
Fantastic cocktails and the staff were on point. Beautiful venue and love bathrooms with individual towels for drying your hands. Will be back again to try some food.

Amazing food, great service, lovely cocktails, and a spectacular view. I dined for lunch and had 3 plates - starting with the famous crayfish pasta, followed by Pekin duck, and peanut butter parfait. The crayfish pasta blew my mind, it was one of the most delicious things I have ever had. Washed down with a frothy refreshing gin fizz I was in heaven. The duck did not impress me as much, it was cooked to perfection but the flavors on the plate failed to wow me and leave a lasting impression. Redemption came with the peanut butter parfait which blew my mind! So divine. My partners tuna and lamb dishes were amazing and I definitely had food envy eating my duck while he dined on the most sumptuous lamb. The coolers are a nice non-alcoholic drink, very refreshing and a great drink to finish a rich meal. It was pricey so I was very lucky I was being taken out for lunch, but will definitely return!

Got treated to Birthday dinner at Sugar Club which I was extremely excited about. My partner and I weren't aware that they no longer provide complimentary valet parking. Which meant we spent 20mins locating a park in Skycity and a further 10min waiting for an elevator. Anywho, once we arrived we were greeted with a very professional welcome and seated right by the window. The views alone, are worth the visit. We decided to order the 3 dishes-being a huge fan of seafood, I went mad for the seafood dishes. Started with the tuna dish- light, fresh and a great start to getting the taste buds warmed up. Presentation was faultless! Followed up with the waiter's recommendation of the crayfish linguine- rich, creamy and everything you could ever ask for. Maybe a tad too heavy handed with the chives. This dish looked very small but it's very rich, any bigger and you'd regret it. I've never had paua before, so rather than dessert I opted for the paua dish. Paua wrapped around smoked mashed potato and brioche with a paua filling were outstanding. Definitely the dish of the evening! My partner ordered; ox tongue, peking duck with squid dumpling and the brownie. He said they were beautifully cooked but I could sense some disappointment. He's been to Sugar Club before and said that our service wasn't to the same standard as before. However, I had no issues and thought the service was good and the food was well thought out. Everything was well presented and service was efficient.

Being taken out by my lovely boyfriend reached a whole new level of extravagant at the sugar club. I find the fine dining experience to be a little intimidating at times, but the sugar club was everything but. We opened the door to find a little buzzing sanctuary situated 328 meters high, plonked right in the heart of the city. The relaxed ambience and accommodating atmosphere certainly alleviated my fear of heights, and left me feeling nothing but... Well.... cosy. <br/><br/>Down to the good stuff <br/><br/>Service was amazing ! Everything was topped up and cleared out in a way where you wouldn't even notice it happening. Smooth and professional would probably be the best way to describe it. <br/><br/>We decided to go for the three course meal, I had the crayfish, lamb, and beef. While Dominic had the Paua, venison, and the duck. Food was a whole new experience on its own, such robust and unique flavours in every dish, the sauces and garnishes worked very well to bring out the flavours of the protein. The portions were just right, and the pace between each course gave us time to appreciate the flavours, while not having to wait too long in excitement for the next. <br/><br/>I had a great night and would definitely recommend this place for those who want that little extra special treatment on a special night. <br/><br/>Thank you Sugar Club !<br/><br/>And <br/><br/>Thank you boyfriend. <br/><br/><br/><br/>

I love everything about this restaurant. I loved the view, the service, the food! everything was perfect for any occasion. We had a 3 course each for fairly reasonable price even tho the portions were small, but I dont eat a lot usually, it was perfect for me. Paua is not rare for me, but I really like their wild Paua!!! It was very flavourful and delicious! Cocktails were also amazing. In fact all of the dishes were full of flavorful that goes so well together! Needless to say the presentation it is A+ like a sculpture. The head chef served one of our meal, and ask us how was our meal. I look forward to come back again in the future.

Went here for the seven course degustation with wine pairing and it was to die for! My favourites were the Waikanae crab entre, the pork belly and the mango dessert. The ambience was a plus - it was a gorgeous night and the views of the harbour were amazing!

We treated ourselves to a decadent lunch towards the tail end of Restaurant Month. The Restaurant Month promotion is 3 dishes for $59, a discount of $11.<br/><br/>The decor is gorgeously understated and the views are phenomenal. The service is really, REALLY good. The Sugar Club is a special occasion kind of place or one to take out of towners. Being neither out of towners or celebrating a special occasion, we felt extra spoilt.<br/><br/>We each ordered 2 savoury and 1 sweet. We sampled all our 9 dishes. It was nice to have a variety of bread for the table as well as 2 tasters/palate cleansers. We got a bowl of roast potatoes for the table. My favourite dishes were: Crayfish linguine, Venison rendang, and the Pekin duck. Warning, the portions are small and vary in size, though for lunch we left feeling pretty full. I didn’t love all the dishes which ranged from delicious to just OK. I found the sweetbreads had a bit too much texture but it could be due to how they were cooked.<br/><br/>We also had some cocktails which at $20 each are pretty steep but delicious and well balanced.<br/><br/>Bill came to just $280 for 3 people. This could have been cheaper if we’d skipped the cocktails. Parking is validated in full and you get free access to the observation deck with your visit. This is an expensive place for expensive tastes and I feel a bit funny paying $10 for a side of potatoes. Was The Sugar Club worth almost $100 per person? Almost. For the price, I think there are better places to eat. But if you're looking for ambience, service and a view, The Sugar Club ticks the boxes.

Excellent views making for a perfect venue if you are keen to impress. A bit pricey for breakfast but I am told that dinner is definitely worth it. One to revisit, even if just for the views.

Truly delightful experience, we celebrated our anniversary here with a table by the window. great service with friendly and helpful staff. The food was top notch, all elements in each dish were to perfection and created an overall mouth watering experience. Was a real treat enjoying such an amazing dining experience while looking over Auckland City lit up at night.

Lovely atmosphere and the go to place for special occasions<br/>Two mains and a dessert is surprisingly filling despite the seemingly small portions. <br/>All time favorite has to be the linguine and signature beef pesto. <br/>I found the chocolate Dessert is very similar to milse degustation menu presentation and taste wise<br/>
Justin
NIce atmosphere and awesome views of Auckland city. Dined here Tuesday 4 August. Ushered to our table promptly and the menu was explained. Once we chose our food was served promptly with enough pauses between each dish. We both had 3 courses. All the food was very nice, good flavours, and the exact amount of portions. Service staff was outstanding, professional and friendly - not to in-your-face and out to get a tip like other places which I just cant stand. But Sugar Club is worth it. So go there and enjoy some delicious food and excellent service.

I've been looking forward to my lunch here and it didn't disappoint. The view was amazing, the atmosphere relaxing and the food spectacular. The pb&j parfait was the highlight. And our waitress Anne was so lovely. She really made the experience better.

I've been looking forward to the Sugar Club experience for quite some time, coming in with high hopes I was very impressed. The ambiance was chilled, fun and relaxing without being pretentious, as to be expected of any good fine dining establishments. They made a good use of the narrow dining space that looped around the outline of the Sky Tower to not make us feel so confined. Beautiful decor, tables and especially the brass lights. Service was friendly, attentive without being overburdened. Most of all the staffs were very well drilled in every single aspects of their service, food and drinks (not just the wine but the other cocktails from the bar as well).<br/><br/>Two of us opted for 4 courses while the rest of the table had 3. We recommend doing 4 for a decent sized meal plus you get to experience more of what they have to offer. More than 4 might be a little bit of a push unless you're a big eater.<br/><br/>Being a mushroom lover I naturally started with the corresponding dish with a mix of enoki, shiitake and my favorite wood ear mushroom accompanied by a heavier parfait. The light yet tasty dish was really a delight but what gets me the most is the soft yet chewy texture (and being a Southeast Asian chewiness is by far the most favorite and important texture to me).<br/><br/>What came next was by far the best dish of the evening. The langoustine (with black rice, apple, pepper, horseradish). Plated beautifully of course. The acidity and sourness went so well with seafood. To me it was like a beautifully deconstructed version of a Vietnamese "Goi" (a salad like dish that is often paired with prawns and other sour ingredients like mango and papaya). I ended with the pocket tempura which I personally did not love so much. It was heavier than expected (not necessarily a bad thing) and the filling tasted a bit like curry or a samosa. It was paired with roasted cauliflower and a cauliflower raita. The sourness of the yogurt based raita and the curry samosa didn't quite work for me, I felt like the flavor clashed in a bad way but that may be just a personal preference thing. My peanut butter dessert was a "snickers bar on steroid" (as the lovely waitress put it). Pleasant enough even with the whole "fancy snickers bar" thing being something I've seen a lot of before.<br/><br/>Throughout the night I couldn't help but sneakily try some of my partner's dishes as he ordered a whole different set of food. The seared pacific tuna was divine and I really regretted not choosing it. The crayfish linguine was a bit too cheesy for me but I can see how a normal cheese lover would love it. I will also definitely try the sticky date pudding next time too. <br/><br/>"You're really just paying for the view" and "only because it is Peter Gordon's" is two of the most common misconceptions I've heard about the Sugar Club. Of course the view, being from the 53rd floor of the Sky Tower, is to die for. But I really do believe that the food really speaks for itself and holds its own value. Whether the Sugar club is located on the 53rd floor or the 1st floor of some other insignificant landmark... I really would come back all the same.<br/><br/>Bravo@
Michelle
The food was great! Love the lamb shoulder and chocolate sorbet. The service is excellent and thanks for giving me a belated birthday surprise, really appreciate it! Definitely coming back again anytime soon.

Finally had the chance to try Peter Gordon's The Sugar Club for my birthday. I heard so much about the place and the food and frankly, I was impressed!!! The place was full for Sunday dinner. The view from the 53rd floor of the SkyTower was breath-taking and the ambience was classy. We had the 7-course degustation and, I tell you, it was like taking your palate on a holiday tour!!! The presentation was excellent, every mouthful was filled with flavour, every component of each dish had a purpose..the spiny crayfish and Otago saffron linguine was my favourite, and I wouldn't mind having more of that when I come back...soon !!!
Krishna Brannigan
A great location excellent friendly staff from around the world. The lamb dish was heavenly, the cheeses very different and interesting choices that worked extremely well with the Penfolds grandfather port. I'm afraid that all the wines served by the glass were underwhelming and our first choice of a bottle of wine vintage 2005 was no longer available. It's worth a visit and stick to winery choices that you already like.
Chris Mcneill
Mothers Day treat at this restaurant and had a very enjoyable evening. The first thing I must comment on was the service. From being greeted to being farewelled it was impeccable. Smooth and seamless , but not intrusive or overly unctuous.<br/>The food arrived with just the right amount of time between courses and was delicious. The day boat fish and pork belly were standouts for me but even the cheese was memorable.!!

OMG<br/>Amazing food<br/>Amazing views <br/><br/>Great place to go for a special treat, taste buds sure got a work out.<br/><br/>The pannacotta Kina and crab was my favourite.<br/><br/>Left feeling inspired.

TOTALLY AMAZING!!! Outstanding best service ever.... We came here for dinner and picked 3 different meal courses each and WOW the flavours - you can taste everything in each dish - absolutely amazing food and experience. We were lucky that the weather was perfect as the view just compliments the whole dining experience.... Fine dining at it's best.

Truly outstanding service, decor, food, cocktails and the most amazing views of Auckland City (reserve the window seat looking a the harbour bridge)<br/><br/>Every meal that came out was full of exquisite flavours and colours! You only need 2-3 dishes of the small plates with drinks (the bourbon, apple sour cocktail 10/10) and share a desert.<br/><br/>The toilets are pretty cool too.

This was my fourth visit to the sugar club and definitely not my last! We went for my friends birthday and they brought her out a few chocolates and mirangues on a plate with "happy birthday" written in chocolate on it at the end of our lunch! Everything was exquisite as usual and our waitress was friendly and approachable. I usually go at dinner time but I highly recommend going for lunch! Just a shame it's no longer valet parking but they validate your parking ticket for you which is very nice.

The service was attentive and friendly. I would love to go back for trying other dishes on the menu. And by then, I hope they would review and execute the Kumara Miso Mash recipe right.

I have been to the Sugar Club twice now. One lunch and one dinner. <br/><br/>The service is absolutely flawless. The attitude, their helpfulness and professionalism is wonderful. The timing for each plate is brilliant. My glasses were never empty. <br/><br/>The food is an adventure, and wonderful to look at. The ingredients are lovely. The Thai plates such as the laksa are my favs here. <br/><br/>The whole visit here is an experience, the elevator up to the restaurant, the view, the service and the food.

I went here for a Saturday lunch and it is, in short, amazing!  The venison rendang was to die for and the peanut butter parfait had me wanting to lick the plate.  Only nit picky comment I have is the paua dish didn't need the mash - it didn't add anything to the plate and was a little bland, it just seemed a bit like a filler.  Great service, amazing views.  Can't wait to go back.

Ok lets do the basics first. Lots of firsts for me here. Had Friday business lunch. Top knotch service. Every dish was well explained when served. Good interactions between us n staff. Had 4 courses digustation. My first digustation ever. Now I know what it is lol. First was the spanner crab. Kina Panna cotta was the star of the dish. Works great with the crab. Next was spiny crayfish n linguine. The best dish of the day for me. Left me craving for more. Linguine was 👌 perfect. First taste of cray fish for me. Loved it..really needed a bit more. Could've smashed serving of all 6 of us lol. Next was Pekin duck. This was party in my mouth. The flavours work so well. N the duck. So tender. Never had such tender duck. Squid dumplings were perfect. Last was desert of peanut butter parfait ohhh yeahhh orgasmic stuff. Lol. Rich but perfect portion size. Loved the experience. Could go on n write more. But it's hard work to write on mobile lol so go n try it yourself. Highly recommend the Linguine

Was amazing, awesome staff, incredible food. One of the best dining experiences of my life. A great restaurant for a special occasion because it is pricey, but worth every cent.

Superb service , best view in Auckland Had a cosmopolitan which was not the best. the food itself is some of the best in Auckland, I am however not a fan of small plates. Actually proves more expensive .

Clearly the reviews for this restaurant say it all, and hey, it should.  It's in a stunning location with a spectacular view and the menu is designed by one of NZ's top chefs.<br/>Our group was extremely lucky to taste so many beautifly crafted dishes, so best to get straight to the point and recommend a few favourites!<br/><br/>1.  Spiny crab crayfish and Otago saffron linguine.  (I've been told, someone has ordered this as their 'dessert' course, as it was soooo so good.)<br/>2.  Panko crusted day boat fish<br/>3.  Peanut butter parfait and blackberry jelly (wildcard selection, but a definite winner)<br/><br/>Service was good (as you would expect), although I must admit we had quite a 'quirky' waiter who made our experience quite memorable with his style.  However, get in there for the food with a group of friends, it's definitely worth the experience and a second visit.  Oh, and don't forget to order from their great selection of wines and cocktails.  We recommend the gin fizz and the espresso martini :)

5 of us dined here for a late lunch. The purpose of this was to show our friend from the UK the skytower experience (without having to jump off it!). The service was extremely attentive and nothing was too much trouble. Every dish was perfectly presented and tasted amazing. The wild paua was the best in my opinion. Although at first glance the menu seems pricey, 2-3 dishes filled us all nicely. Would definitely go there again.

1st time: August 2014<br/>I went there for lunch time and it was really amazing experience. The price included 3 (small) dishes and free 24hrs valet parking at Sky City. The ambiance is really nice that you can see the view of Auckland and sometime people doing sky walk. <br/><br/>The service was over the moon, our waiter was really friendly and helpful as we never had experience in this type of restaurant with fancy names on the menu so we had to ask him many questions :p<br/><br/>Food were incredible!! They were so pretty that you'd rather take many photos than eat them haha. My favorites were crayfish linguine and juniper cured venison. Also the beef pesto was the best steak I've had so far because it was so tender and nice! I ate so slowly because I didn't want to finish it hehe.<br/><br/>Dessert let me down little bit. They were pretty but didn't have that wow factor. Maybe I chose wrong ones...I had snow beauty baba and feijoa cheesecake. <br/><br/>Overall it's really really good restaurant that I will definitely go back again and again!!<br/><br/>2nd time: June 2015<br/>Went here again for lunch, the menu is slightly different from last time. Some dishes like linguine and beef pesto are still there. Valet parking is no longer available but they validate parking for free which is good :)<br/><br/>This time I had seared pacific tuna which is really really pretty dish!! If you have only fish with dashi broth, it will be too salty but when you have all element in the dish including apple sponge...ohhhh it's really good!<br/><br/>Venison rendang was little bit let down because venison was shredded and when you mixed meat with curry...they all had weird soupy texture. However the taste of rendang was still there. The highlight for me today was dessert! Peanut butter parfait was so good. The taste has well balance, not too nutty nor sweet. The chocolate dessert was good for people who like real dark choco. Personally I like white choco so this dish was too bitter for me. <br/><br/>Overall, I had another good day at the sugar club and will go back again for sure!

Had an excellent time. Great food and great service! We ended up ordering 5 dishes. The food is so good, we just wanted to try as much as we can. We just managed to get through the 5 dishes, 3 to 4 dishes would certainly be just right for an average night out. Euro-asian cuisine is one way to describe the dishes and in my opinion on all the dishes that we ordered, they hit the spot in terms of "balance". Every dish that went out were prepared with a lot of care. The timing of the food coming out between dishes is spot on (10 - 15mins between dishes). Our waitress was very pleasant and very knowlegeable. <br/><br/>Our stand out dishes are the spiny crayfish linguine, thrice-cooked pork belly and the peanut butter parfait. Our least favourite dish would be the lamb. Two thumbs up. This place is certainly worth a visit!

Beautiful food as you would expect, and fantastic views. Good service. Everything tasted just right, even the cheeseboard was immaculate. As far as a fine dining experience goes, you can pay more in Auckland, I've paid $500 for two people. But for three courses each and wine this was more like $300. And you can't get a view like that anywhere else.

The Sugar Club is the fourth restaurant opened by Peter Gordon who is a famous New Zealand-born, London-based chef. The restaurant is located on Level 53 of Auckland’s iconic Sky Tower. The restaurant itself does not rotate like the restaurant “Orbit” which is a level below. There is also complimentary valet parking for people who dines at the restaurant in the car park below. The moment we entered the restaurant I was amazed by the breathtaking views. There’s a lounge bar near the entrance, with comfortable looking sofa and wines in the background. According to the restaurant website, the decors were inspire

Wow. Wow. Wow. Love. It. Here. The food was OUTSTANDING. Would recommend anything. Love Peter Gordon's menu and dining structure. Our waiter was absolutely exceptional. I wish I had taken more photos here because the presentation and interior design were also top notch. I think this might've been one of my most enjoyable dining experiences ever. A big thanks to The Sugar Club!

My husband and I enjoyed a beautiful dinner here for his birthday. Not only is the setting wonderful but the staff were attentive (but not too much) and helpful and the food was divine. The restaurant manages if provide one of the most outstanding dining experiences in Auckland, whilst retaining a relaxed, easy atmosphere. And they provided a gorgeous birthday dessert on the house! This wasn't our first visit, but we enjoyed it just as much as the first time, and we'll be back!

Best restaurant I have ever been to. Food was absolutely amazing and service was perfect! The view is stunning too! Recommend the lamb, crayfish and beef dishes and for desert the blueberry cheesecake and peanut butter dish.

My partner and I had an excellent meal here. Was very impressed and will be returning. The staff gave outstanding service which made our experience here a 10/10.

Love love love! Firstly free valet parking is awesome... i came here for a birthday celebration and we enjoyed two courses for lunch. We had lamb/duck/and dessert which all were amazing and not as small as expected (size wise)..We got a complimentry starter/breads and dessert which was a nice touch. The service was great and the food was yummy!! Only niggle is the lady you meet down the bottom was rude and on the phone for 10 mins not acknowledging us! Will come back here for sure!

Went here for our wedding anniversary and was not disappointed ! Service was good and food was on point ! I opted for the 4 course and my husband got the 5 course ! Our favourite was the Peking duck, lobster , pork belly and the topica desert . They also gave a few complimentary dishes that's were soo yummy ! Would highly recommend especially on a beautiful day like tonight watching the sunset ! We both enjoyed dinner at the sugar club

Ever since The sugar club opened I have been keen to check it out so when choosing a venue for our annual girls Christmas dinner it was an easy choice. The weather over the last week was not been great and the night we went was no exception but we still got great views of the city by daylight and night.<br/>It was very windy and therefore a bit swayey but you soon got used to it.<br/>The service was fantastic and the food amazing. We went for the three course option which suited the fussier and pregnant ones of the group as there was great choice.<br/>
Rachel
Wonderfully presented food. Lots of fresh colours and contrasting textures paired with a refreshing view. The menu is set up quite differently from other places. Price is a bit steep.

Located on the 53rd floor of the Sky Tower, The Sugar Club offers incredible panoramic views of Auckland City while you enjoy possibly the most amazing, mouthwatering cuisine you'll ever come across! I visited The Sugar Club for my birthday this year and was blown away by the fantastic quality of the service and food that was offered. My friends and I chose three to four courses each and loved all of our dishes.<br/><br/>Starting off with complimentary bread, we ordered our courses which were expertly selected by the chefs and presented in the best order. We started with lighter dishes, mine being mushrooms with parfait, trompette des morts, sesame enoki, shiitake, black garlic, crumbs and ketchup, which was absolutely amazing - a great blend of taste and textures and very exotic and unique! This was followed by the heavier, more filling inari, a creative mix of Japanese and Indian flavours - I liked this, but didn't love it. My third course was the kingfish, which was so fresh, soft, juicy and succulent!<br/><br/>My fourth course was dessert, and I chose the Mochi Matcha Lychee, which was an incredibly delicious dessert - I loved the creamy gelato, bouncy texture of the mochi and the lychee, as well as the matcha and little donuts. <br/><br/>My friends and I shared our dishes around and I absolutely loved the taste and texture of them too - as you can see, they were all incredibly well presented with the same amount of heart going into the cooking and creation of these dishes. I'd highly recommend The Sugar Club for a special occasion, as it's worth every cent! We did spend over 3 hours here, which was unexpected, as each course came out after 30 mins of each other. As such, The Sugar Club would be perfect for relaxed, leisurely occasions so you have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful views of the city, the amazing cuisine and of course the company :) Loved my experience here at The Sugar Club and will definitely return!

Came here for a celebration late Sunday lunch with a friend. My friend rang ahead to warn them I was Celiac and i was provided with gf bread and advised what i could have from the menu and what they could adapt. <br/>Couldn't fault the food or the portion sizes. We opted for 3 courses and had 2 savoury and 1 dessert which was a perfect amount for lunch. Presentation was top class and flavours all worked well together. <br/>Service was genuine and attentive.<br/>View first class <br/>Can't wait to go back for dinner.
Moira McFarland
The place was great but did not meet my expectation. The food was good, the service was excellent and the view was fantastic. However I was expecting something more, I don't exactly know what was missing but I sure miss Dine very much after having eaten at Sugar.
Dean Shelley
One word for this place. Disappointing.<br/><br/>Having had dinner at The Grill earlier, we decided upon dessert here. Both restaurants being owned by the Sky City Group; we expected to have the minimum $35 spend waived. Not the case. We made an exception as a friend was visiting from Australia, so why not spend the extra on a nice glass of Port!<br/><br/>My friend recommended the pineapple tapioca which tasted amazing, however I went for the chocolate whatever it was. The menu said "dark chocolate and caramel gateaux". For those who don't speak French, gateau translates to cake; however there was no cake.<br/><br/>Due to the lack of loyalty waiver from the front desk and the most disgusting dessert I've had in my life, I shall not be returning. The terrible experience was further exacerbated by a fellow diner clicking his fingers at the waitress.. Which apparently is common behaviour. One thing I know, is never piss off the people who serve your food.<br/><br/><br/>

Very flash, cocktails & service are great but the food wasn't that amazing considering the price and establishment. The dessert is a exception though, definately recommended the peanut butter parfait!

Beautiful food. Lovely service. The attention to detail is astounding.<br/><br/>Now, I'm huge on quantity when it comes to food; taste/quality is almost always a bonus. So I would be honest in saying that I was initially a bit concerned about the serving sizes, but after the waitress explained to us how to order from the menu (3 dishes per person) + dessert + a good glass of wine... it turned out to be quite a 'ful'-filling affair! :) <br/><br/>If I remember - my favourite was the crayfish pasta (yummo)... the wild paua was a pleasant surprise and my least favourite was the pork belly (apart from the crispy skin and tender meat... the 'solomon’s gold and pepita mole, tamarillo, tamarind caramel, cabbage' tasted like an odd tasting curry.<br/><br/>I was there for lunch, by the way.
Rice & Kai
We came here the other night and really enjoyed ourselves.  Dinner here includes the use of valet parking and a ride up the Sky Tower for free, so it's a nice place to go for a treat, or to take people visiting from out of town.  The service was friendly and efficient and I was pleased to see a good range of interesting coolers for those not drinking alcohol - my particular favourite was the bergamot watermelon drink.<br/>The menu is kind of like a pick-your-own degustation and you also choose the number of courses.  They recommend that three of the savoury dishes is the equivalent of a starter and main at other restaurants, but the portion sizes are quite big and we found ourselves really full, even though we wanted dessert.  We did get four courses each in the end, but three would have been more than sufficient as you are also given complimentary bread, an amuse bouche and something sweet.  Very filling!<br/>My husband ordered the crayfish linguine, crispy pork belly, beef pesto and snow beauty baba.  I had the wild paua, kingfish, Pekin duck and mochi matcha lychee.  Overall, the dishes were well-exectued and impressively presented, although we felt that their seafood dishes were much stronger than the meat dishes.  The paua was lovely and briney and I really enjoyed the kingfish and tempura oyster.  One of our favourites was the crayfish linguine which was very buttery.<br/>The Pekin duck was also quite nice, although nothing like the Peking duck we're used to.  The pork belly was tasty but some pieces were a little bit dry.  We couldn't decide if we liked the beef pesto - it was an odd combination of flavours and quite salty.  We also ordered some duck fat roasties on the side (which we really didn't need!) and they were lovely and crispy.<br/>The desserts were very nice, although by then we were pretty stuffed.  I enjoyed the matcha mochi and lychee combination, although there were some (very tasty and cripsy) doughnuts on the side that seemed a bit out of place on the plate.  My husband enjoyed the snow baba which turned out to be a kind of warm cake.<br/>Overall, a good place to go for a special night out; I would definitely go for the seafood dishes, and only 3 courses in total, if we go back again.
Joanna
Amazing view and Fantastic food, need to improve bit on service but overall experience was good and I will definitely visit their again.

The Sugar Club is actually kinda cool.... Not as pretence and snobby as some people think. Peter Gordon does something different here. Firstly its on the highest floor of the Sky Tower, out of all the restaurants. Already been twice for dinner I thought i'd shout the girls a yummy birthday lunch.<br/><br/>Secondly, its no ordinary menu. The meals are smaller portions, like a sharing plate or tapas but its all for you. From the photos below are a mix of the lunch and dinner menu items, however the menu changes with season, and this is why some of the photos aren't named. There are set prices, with two dishes being $56, three dishes being $70 etc, however you can mix and match and have any of those dishes mains or desserts. You will be surprised at the portion sizes. For me I ordered 2 dishes - the day boat fish and one dessert, but I recommend ordering sides to share. I've tried the watermelon & Feta...sounds like an odd combo but its actually quite refreshing and works in a weird way. The miso Kumara is delicious, and you can't go without the duck fat roasties. <br/><br/>After visiting twice for dinner and once for lunch, the food is quite outstanding. Everything is displayed beautifully and cooked to a good degree. The only dish I would avoid is the Spiney Crayfish and Linguine, as it was far too cheesy and could just use some adjustments. <br/><br/>Nb: If you all order different desserts, you can all try a spoonful of each others. <br/><br/>Rating<br/>Food: 8.5/10<br/>Service: 8/10<br/>Value for Money: Very Good

We ate here for the first time last week and I was very impressed. The dining room was inviting yet understated and the service was fine. The menu was inviting, with many dishes which appealed on paper. The spiny crayfish and saffron linguine was my favourite dish of the night, the paua was also excellent. The dessert menu was also very strong but the unexpected surprise dessert amuse bouche, a coconut sago pudding with pineapple and passionfruit was a show stopper. I'm not always a fan of Peter Gordon's fusion style but everything was done beautifully well

Sorry I don't agree with the other reviews on here. We dine out a lot for business. We had an overseas business guest here staying at the Grand Hotel and naturally this was the place to take them. The service was attentive but average. The waiter recommended a terrible white wine, the food was average, maybe not to my taste. The view was fantastic! One would expected more from such a reputable restaurant. Would we go back? Maybe.
Rachel Haggerty
Just an incredible experience I would recommend to anyone. The taste of every plate was beautiful. The new dessert menu was exquisite - I loved the mochi machi lychee. All of the food was divine, the atmosphere thoroughly enjoyable. I can't say enough. Worth every penny. Our waiter, Graham, was a delight and the wee chat with Ppeter Gordon himself topped off my birthday celebration.

Ate here for the second time. Amazing views; food which has to be experienced to be believed; every dish was great (except for the basil and olive dessert which was just weird); fabulous service and great wines.<br/>Only negative was we ended up paying for our parking - we got a reduced rate but given the comments in other reviews I would like to see this sorted.<br/>Definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions

My husband and I dined at the Sugar Club last week and I feel I must compliment them. The Sugar Club delivered the whole package - fantastic staff who met our every need, the best view in Auckland and delicious, beautifully presented food. We loved coming here and the personal attention we received was outstanding. Thank you

Best restaurant in Auckland.....now that fine dinning in Auckland is dying is great to have a place with the perfect views....great service and lovely food..not a fault ...cant wait to go back<br/>we had eight dishes to share and all of them were perfect. Truly fission which many restaurants in Auckland claim to do but very few succeed.

We had the pleasure of dining here today . The food was amazing and we had a great waiter Graham. Every fish that we ordered was faultless. It was also great not to have to worry about parking as this is done by valet .I would recommend this restaurant.

Wow! The Sugar Club is one of the best places I have been to!<br/>The spectacular view at sunset is one not to be missed.<br/>We were seated by the window for dinner and given a selection of breads, delicious. We were also given a sample of a soup, also good.<br/>We ordered 4 dishes, the stand out dishes were the lobster linguine and the beef pesto.<br/>The little cocktail lounge by the bar is a wonderful place to sit and have a drink, I had the bellini, delicious!<br/>Can't wait to go back, from the service to the decor The Sugar Club is an amazing dining experience.

1 word, WOW. I dined here a couple of weeks ago with a girlfriend of mine and we were both incredibly impressed. More than just the food was the full dining experience which is provided effortlessly with the view and location. The ambience is fantastic, perfect lighting and the wait staff are incredibly switched on and attentive. We ordered 5 small plates (including dessert) and each dish was better than the last. The great thing is that you can choose which order your plates come out which is absolutely genius. I absolutely raved about sugar club to family and friends afterwards and have convinced them that this is one of the best restaurants I have ever been to.

Our group of 8 visited for lunch. Food was superb, as was the view and the Rose recommended divine! The staff were just lovely - knowledgeable and not too intrusive. Can't wait to see what the view is like at night. The ladies toilets were just beautiful - loved the porthole windows! This is a 'must' if you have visitors from out of town or overseas.
Birdy
Everything was fabulous. The views were awesome, the décor, the service, and of course the food. I tried dishes that I normally wouldn't eat, like the beef pesto as I'm not the biggest red meat fan, and I was instantly converted. Peter Gordon has done a great job of creating something at international standards right here in Auckland. A must try.

We had lunch here on Monday.<br/>Superb views, Classy staff.<br/>The food options were varied - Small plates, I had 5<br/>Scallops Pakora Duck breast Peanut Butter parfait and a shared cheese board.<br/>Excellent drinks options also.<br/>Peter Gordon has done it again.<br/>A must for tourists and Aucklanders alike<br/>Make a booking.

This is the best of the best when it comes to service and food. Amazing. I am not a massive fan of the sky tower location, but I will be in the minority. This place is exceptional and I can't wait to go back.

Well what can I say? Dining at The Sugar Club was excellent. The service was impeccable, the food was to die for and the view was amazing.<br/><br/>The meal started with a selection of handmade breads. Our very attentive waiter constantly kept us topped up with either still of sparkling water. We all enjoyed some very lovely wine of the extensive wine list. <br/><br/>For lunch you either have a brunch type meal or order from their small plates menu. We all ordered two small plates, which were perfection. <br/><br/>I would thoroughly recommend dining here if you have the chance. It is a little pricey, but well worth it for the experience.

Having been to The Sugar Club in the UK, when the excuse came along with a birthday celebration we took it.<br/>Initially thrown as to whether this was a shared plates menu, once our waitress had explained the concept (basically a mini degustation where you get to choose the courses and the ordering), it was all on - my wife and I made the most of choosing different dishes so we could still enjoy a sample (though when it came to the scallops, we each had to have our own!).<br/>Have to rave about the Crab Linguine in particular! - and my wife was very reticent in letting go of her duck.<br/>Only negative really was the bar area - the area for seating is relatively cramped, and unless you manage to score the couch, you want to move on quickly to your table (perhaps thats by design).<br/>We'll definitely be back though.

Wow wow wow, what an incredible dining experience. It's nice to be in Peter Gordon's new restaurant after celebrating my birthday at Dine when it had just opened. I was impressed with Dine but Sugar Club has taken things to a whole new level. Our food was exceptional, exquisite flavours and remarkably fresh. Te complimentary house-made (delicious!!) breads and still/sparkling water was a nice touch. The menu is wonderfully composed and I cannot wait to return to try the rest. Fabulous staff too, we had a lovely woman Brianna from California, who we enjoyed chatting to and her helpful knowledge about the menu and good items. This was a truly special evening and one I doubt will not be able to be matched for a long time! Heaven - I will be back.

Our group of seven celebrated an important family birthday at The Sugar Club and enjoyed a memorable evening of fine wine, fab food and excellent service in a wonderful setting. The decor is very stylish, the chairs comfortable, and the view spectacular! Complimentary water and breads, and the delicious pork amuse bouche, got the meal off to a good start. Our group had 3 or 4 courses including delicious desserts and shared sides of crunchy duck-fat roast potatoes and bitter-leaf salads. The imaginative flavour combinations made each mouthful a pleasure. A bonus was the friendly chat with Peter Gordon, who was in the house for most of the evening and seemed to thoroughly enjoy interacting with his customers.
Rebecca Lawson
What an amazing restaurant. I would highly recommend eating here if you get the chance.<br/><br/>We had a group of 11 people dine here and everyone had a fantastic meal. We each got 4-5 courses (including dessert) and I wasn't disappointed with any of them. A special mention to the crab linguine and the duck, yum! The only let down was the bread that came with the cheese platter. It hardly got touched by those who ordered it, many used the bread that came with the table instead (which was really good). <br/><br/>The waiters were great and super speedy. A special to mention to Sam, our waiter, who was extremely helpful and recommended the Beef Pesto to one of the members at our table who said they could've ordered that twice it was so good. <br/><br/>Overall, if your willing to spend the money you won't be disappointed, what a fantastic menu!

I believe this is its first weekend opened, however it doesn't show! Extremely polished in all aspects and the food was well deserving of a great rating. Peter Gordon and his team certainly have a magic formula. <br/><br/>Wonderful freshly baked assorted breads and complimentary sparkling water add to the all the positive points going for The Sugar Club. Amazingly good service coupled with fantastically fresh fare showcasing some of the best ingredients NZ has to offer.<br/><br/>Looking forward to returning, highly recommended for an experience you won't forget.

You don't get to dress up and feel super fancy at a top (literally ;) ) location very often in Auckland. This place gives its visitors the opportunity to do just that. It definitely adds to the whole experience and excitement of "going out" for a special occasion!<br/><br/>What caught the eye:<br/>I have an Achilles Heel for beautiful decor and menu designs...can't quite stop gushing over them. The Sugar Club really paid attention to the details and made sure that everything to the eye was eye-candy worthy. Like I said, I loved the menu designs :) Although it's a waste of time to mention how beautiful the views were up at the top of the Sky Tower, I am reinforcing the fact the views are breathtaking, especially on a clear-sky sort of night :).<br/><br/>The food:<br/>I wouldn't expect any less than TOP QUALITY and taste-bud tantalising flavours, and I was not disappointed. However, because everything is based on shared-plate courses, the hardest part of the selection process would have to be agreeing with the person you went with what you will be having for dinner. (Make sure you don't leave with a war on your hands over this!) The menu is diverse, and has many interesting marriages of flavours and ingredients. <br/><br/>I tried: <br/>OTAGO SAFFRON LINGUINE (#thebest)<br/>NZ paddle crab, pinenuts, aged Parmigiano Reggiano<br/><br/>GRILLED CINNAMON QUAIL (very interesting and delicious)<br/>roast ginger carrots, plum tapioca, yoghurt, sumac<br/><br/>PEANUT BUTTER PARFAIT <br/>Mackintosh caramel, chocolate sorbet, crunchy bits<br/><br/>MERINO SILERE ALPINE LAMB RACK <br/>eggplant sultana relish, minted peas, cumin crumbs <br/><br/>Budget: <br/>$$$$$$<br/><br/>Recommended for:<br/>Anniversaries, Girl's Night Outs, Big Buck Spenders, Make-a-Lasting-First-Impression (although how you'd follow up with that one I have no clue ;) )<br/><br/>Enjoy your special night out at the one and only, The Sugar Club!

As fans of Gordon's food my wife and I decided to try Sugar Club back in February and it was delightful, good service, a great wine list, and the food was fantastic, will go back soon.
Vivien @ KJAS Blog
I had a lovely brunch here and highly recommend for a premium dining experience that you'd love to dress up for. Don't be deterred by the minimum $35 spend per person, it includes valet parking for the day as well as entry into the Main Observatory Level for beautiful views of Auckland. I prefer it in daytime because the photos turn out better, you just see a ton of specks of lights and flashes reflecting off the glass at nighttime. This great start contributes to why the Sugar Club is perfect for a relaxed and pampered brunch over the weekend. <br/><br/>The staff are always very attentive, wandering over to check on how you are finding the food every so often. In fact, it may border on a little too attentive, but service is extremely important in that kind of place. Don't worry if you arrive feeling hungry, they'll give you a basket of assorted breads and a bit of delicious soft cheese/butter (I couldn't tell which it was, but it was so smooth and aromatic!) to tide you over until your order arrives. <br/><br/>You can order a variety of small entree-size dishes, or a larger dish from the main brunch menu. I selected a bacon fry-up that included two organic eggs done however you'd like them (scrambled, fried or poached and I opted for fried), delicious streaky bacon, roast tomatoes and huge buttery portobello mushrooms all piled on buttered toast. I also got an extra side of duck fat roasties. The eggs were done exactly as I requested and tasted delicious. I also particularly enjoyed the bacon. The mushrooms were far too buttery in my opinion though, and you couldn't taste much of the mushroom aroma that you detect right at the start. My buttered toast was also rather burnt and difficult to cut, which I thought was rather poorly done. However, it was all very delicious admittedly and presentation was also lovely. The duck fat roasties sound like the potatoes will be drowning in a tub of fat, but they're actually delicious roast potatoes with a delightful sort of skin to them and super fluffy warm insides. You must try the duck fat roasties out for sure, they were my absolute favourite from that day. I've never had better cooked potatoes. <br/><br/>The Sugar Club didn't disappoint with their friendly staff and excellent tasting food. A few minor kinks that stopped them from being as perfect as they should be, but I feel like the atmosphere and staff make up for it enough that I didn't downgrade them too much from a 4.5 rating.

I was surprised but not in a good way at all with the Sugar Club. Starting with the menu. I do not mind and thing the concept of small plates and putting on your own degustation menu is brilliant and rather puts the stress on the chefs and leaves the customer spoiled for choice but i also believe things need to be executed the right way. This has not happened at all and a few things were not the fault of the kitchen or the front of house just the management at all. We were a table of 3 and it was day three of a 4 day dining marathon throughout Auckland. The menu as you can see descripes every dish apart from the beef pesto. now this could be on purpose as it is `THE DISH` of the sugar club but for people who don't know this it looks like they run out of space on the menu. Now the food was generally good and the favourite was the lamb dish but i must say the portion size was an absolute joke and i was feeling really ripped off to say at the very least. Our other problem was that we were surrounded by larger table who already had a bit of a nice intoxication level and therefor created a bit of noise. There was also a table of 4 young woman celebrating a birthday and for some reason started a loud argument with the neighbouring table and the service team was a bit lost handling this situation. Its a good restaurant and the food is good but really just good and not good enough for a chef with this reputation and a high profile venue. The portion size well well its a disaster. $450 for 3 people with just a couple of gin tonic and 4 course i think i have dined better and cheaper in other places. Managed to spend $470 for 2 at Ostro and the experience was outstanding. Ah sorry forgot to mention that the duck was cooked completely in the wrong way. it was forced cooked and did not rest and it was like eating strings of rubber. Anyway i won't go back at all as i can eat much better in the same area.

If you keep up to date with the dining scene in Auckland, then you have bound to come across talks about Peter Gordon's The Sugar Club in recent months. The Godfather of Fusion Cuisine's latest venture, the fourth incarnation of his popular restaurant brand that first started in Wellington, was welcomed into Level 53 of Sky Tower with open arms. My friends and I managed to get a table, early Saturday night and decided to see if The Sugar Club was worth all the hype.<br/><br/>The revamped dining space is a significant upgrade to The Observatory, the seafood buffet that previously occupied the space. The Art Deco and Modernist features with brass light fittings and chandeliers accompanied with the stunning view oozes with glamorous appeal and it's as if you've been transported out of Auckland. Our meal started with complimentary bread and a goat cheese parfait amuse bouche that was garnished with pieces of candied walnut, crispy rosemary and lightly dressed with a tangy balsamic sauce. An interesting start that received mixed reviews amongst the table, but I enjoyed the combination of flavours, the balsamic dressing in particular.<br/><br/>Instead of the typical entrée, main and dessert, the menu offers a selection of small dishes, something similar to a degustation but you get to choose your own dishes. This allows you to sample more variety of ingredients and flavours. We opted for three savoury dishes and one dessert per person.<br/><br/>My meal start with a delightful spiced smoked laksa served with pieces of duck, pumpkin and egg noodles. The seasoning was well-balanced and the smoking infusion intensified the soup giving it a distinctive taste. The pieces of duck were tender and the egg hidden underneath the fried onions and garlic added a creamy richness to the soup. However, the thin strands of noodles were slightly overcooked for my liking and lacked the desirable texture.<br/><br/>The Otago saffron linguine with paddle crab was a disappointment. The pungent Parmigiano Reggiano overpowered the flavours of the other ingredients, including the crab and was too rich for our liking. Similar to the egg noodles for the laksa, the linguine was too sloppy and resembled more like a risotto than a pasta dish. My friend and I were unable the small portion.<br/><br/>My meal was redeemed with the prawn and panko-crusted hapuka served over Asian greens, wood ear fungus and pieces of golden kumara. The juxtaposition of the crispy panko crust and the moist and tender hapuka provided a good variation of textures and the taste of the dashi was outstanding. This dish was well executed and I highly recommend everyone to try.<br/><br/>We left room for dessert, so I tried the peanut butter parfait. This creamy and rich parfait, served with a scoop of velvetly chocolate sorbet, chocolate crunchy bits and drizzled with caramel sauce, was happily consumed within minutes. I'm a big fan of peanut butter and this was just divine!<br/><br/>When restaurants are overhyped in the media, you dine with high expectations. Although it occupies a beautiful space and the staff offered first-class service, the small letdowns can cause huge disappointment because you expect an impeccable dining experience. I enjoyed my dinner at The Sugar Club, but I left with mixed feelings and this could be due to my reservations about fusion cuisine. With that being said, don't let me put you off, I do recommend giving it a try and see for yourself, whether it is worth all the hype!<br/><br/>If you like this review, please check out my dining blog - http://mydiningjourney.wordpress.com for more reviews and photographs :)

Peter Gordon’s Sugar Club Auckland has recently opened up, since the closure of ‘Dine by Peter Gordon’, also run by SkyCity, but in Federal Street. This gastronomic delight is up on high, above the viewing deck and the Orbit restaurant in the actual Sky Tower. <br/><br/>I went on an evening where Peter Gordon himself was in the house, putting the final touches to his new summer menu with the new Chef, Neil Brazier, along with head sous-chef and pasty chef Nico Bonnaud. The autumn degustation menu was delightful and the view from the fifty-third floor makes any meal experience that little more special. Dining out for two, a three course degustation with desert and wine match plus bubbles to start with will set you back around $350. However, for this price you will be treated with the utmost attention - the waiter staff were so polite, so unpretentious and delightfully pleasant that it made me feel very special indeed! <br/><br/>Food was great. I’d like to say fantastic, but there were just a few little things that made it just ever so slightly not mindblowing, for example, the pork belly tasted like it had been reheated, after having being delicately slow-cooked, which slightly ruined the texture. These are teething problems no doubt, which time and experience at cooking at the 53rd level will no doubt resolve.<br/><br/>Peter Gordon’s global fusion of food choices never fails to impress and Sugar Club is definitely no letdown.

Overall a good dining experience. We went here as a group of 4 on a Saturday night. It was busy. We sat in the lounge first and each had a cocktail. We were looking forward to this and have to say were very disappointed by the drinks. They were priced between $18-$20 so you would expect them to be good. 3 out of the 4 of them were awful. Very weak and low on flavour. To their credit though, when we complained they did remove them from the bill, so that was much appreciated.<br/><br/>Unfortunately it was quite cloudy on the night we went so we didn't get to see the best of the view, but it is a great location up the sky tower. Once we moved to our table it was smooth sailing. Our waiter was very helpful, we had plenty of questions that he was more than happy to answer. The restaurant serves everything in entrée size, so that means you can try more dishes which is great. The food overall was excellent. My standouts were the tuna and the duck. The only disappointing dish was the beef pesto. This was a surprise as it is a Peter Gordon signature dish, but both my husband and I agreed it did not taste good and I didn't finish it.<br/><br/>Sparking and still water is free, which I think it should be when you are paying fine dining prices. The wine list had a great variety and covered a large range of prices.<br/><br/>Overall is was a great experience. They have not been open long, so hopefully they took our comments on board and the cocktails will improve. I am not sure what happened with the beef pesto, but the rest of the food was excellent.
