Review Amano - Auckland Central

One of the nicest restaurants I've been to in a long time...stunningly stylish fitout in a fantastic location, the staff were lovely and attentive to our needs...the food was incredible and you have to try the clams and also the octopus...one slight knock on Amano was the wine list could have been a little more comprehensive. Regardless, treat yourself to a wonderful dining experience and visit Amano

I only stopped for a quick breakfast before a flight but the cinnamon bun I had was immense and the espresso was good quality too. Helpful service topped it all off. Definitely would recommend.

We had breakfast in a very nice atmosphere on a Sunday morning. They have an original take Avocado toasts adding almonds and seeds. Eggs were very tasty and bakery products were top level. Coffee wasn't too special.
Samantha Lee
The food was well-prepared and flavorful, especially their burrata which is my all-time favorite. The quality of the food has always been good and stable, and the staff provided great service throughout my meal. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, although a bit loud at times. While I enjoyed my meal, I wish they had more gluten-free options on the menu, especially with pasta. Nonetheless, this is one of the best Italian you can find in Auckland, don't missed out!

This is the prettiest place I’ve been to so far. With aesop soap & hand cream in the bathrooms, marble bar tops and delicious noodles, it was a very pleasant experience. However, once we tried to order some more bread and butter, the waitress seemed like she was annoyed with us. Speaking of the bread, it was amazing with the butter and the sea flakes! The noodles were good, portions were good as well. The clams were juicy and delicious.

Extremely satisfied with our meal, 10/10! -Steak was perfectly cooked, very soft and juicy, and the sauce is perfect too! -Coffee was good too, bakery section looks very mouthwatering as well; -Loved the atmosphere, feels veey comfortable, loved being able to watch them preparing foods;

I usually have a coffee and a lemon tart to take away from Amano, and today I had first dining experience there. Food was so good, oysters were so fresh! A bit surprised that monkfish was off the menu as I was so looking forward to trying it, I think they update their menu often cos I’m pretty sure it was on the menu last weekend. Staff were friendly and professional, also loved the fact they wiped the table before they served dessert cutlery and plates. Will definitely return again!

Very nice food, as always, cooked well and high quality, staff were great and very helpful. It was a bit loud, which made it quite hard to have a conversation, and they kept dimming the lights, until it was very dark, but nothing out of the ordinary. Very good, will come back often as I already do!

Delicious food but slow service. Could have been because they were busy. For starter I had straciatella with asparagus and almond which was delicious. It was served with bread and was served very quickly. I was recommended very good wines to pair by the bartender. I then unfortunately had to wait 1h for the main to be served (I knew this exactly from when I took the photo of my starter). The main, which was pasta with scampi, was delicious and hot but the wait time was incredibly long, especially that some other people at the bar who ordered after me were served first which I thought was not nice. Definitely delicious food but questionable speed of service depending on the day.

Pretty place, great vibes and service from the staff. We were lucky to get a table within 15 minutes during dinner time even thou we had no reservations. Food, however was good. Buratta came with corn 🌽; not sure if I reallly enjoyed my cheese with corn but was different. Crudo was really good and refreshing. Chicken was good but slightly undercooked and was pink inside. The waiting time was long but expected given dinner service.

Nice place: Beautiful interior design & a good atmosphere. Friendly waiters that refill your water every few minutes. Food is beautifully served and tastes good. However the prices are too high for the portions: $40 for 6 Raviolis is way too expensive!

This was a delicious place to visit for a tasty work lunch. Attentive service, not too loud and great food. Will definitely be back.

Delicious little coffee and breakfast spot right on the north shore bay. Nice views, better food and cheerful pleasant staff. The ambiance is neat, open space, lots of bars and tables, super cute! Had the warehou, or whitefish on toast with poached egg that exploded perfectly all over my breakfast. Love it!

We came to this restaurant Bc it was recommended by the 36 h piece in the New York Times and it lived up to the recommendation! Definitely order the Chitarri (shrimp scampi). It was some of the best pasta I have had. The service was impeccable and well timed. The setting and decor is fabulous. Come here for a fantastic meal and great ambience in Auckland.

Amazing, the decor is so beautiful and the vibe is just right. Service is 10/10, such friendly and personable staff, always filling up your water (a key sign of good service). The food is divine!!!! So well cooked and the flavours coming together. The wine list is fabulous and staff are knowledgeable about pairing with your meal! the cocktails are all unique! Highly recommend this place.

Excellent, high quality food with service to match in chic setting with a very chill vibe. Perfect!

As someone who has been disappointed with Italian restaurants lately, I decided to give Amano a try, and I must say it exceeded my expectations. In a culinary landscape where simple pasta dishes seem all too common, Amano stands out with its exceptional offerings. Despite the higher price range, the experience was well worth it. I opted for the Bolognese pasta, priced at $36, and it was a revelation. Bursting with flavor and complemented by incredible spices, each bite was a delight that melted in my mouth. The attention to detail and quality of ingredients in this dish truly set it apart. My dining companions also raved about their pasta choices, further attesting to the excellence of Amano's offerings. If you, like me, have grown weary of the disappointment often associated with Italian cuisine, I highly recommend giving Amano a chance. This restaurant showcases a level of culinary expertise and creativity that is truly refreshing. Prepare to be pleasantly surprised and indulge in a truly satisfying dining experience at Amano.

Got recommended this restaurant. It did not disappoint. Service was great. The dishes were suburb. Will definitely be going back.

We booked for a birthday celebration, and the food was super yum. It’s a bit pricy but understandably so - you pay for what you get. It was a bit awkward when we arrived as we had booked a table and were kind of left standing there multiple times, but I’d just put that down to the new changes that we have coming into level two. Our waitress was extremely friendly 😊
Marie T
Between 2 of us, we shared the following:
-Burrata (fantastic and so fresh and flavoured nicely you won't get sick of eating this whole bowl of cheese!)
-Mushroom Tagliatelle (also fantastic, fresh egg pasta and the sauce is really yum!)
-Carpaccio (I love meat so this was always gonna be great)
-roasted kumara as a side (prob over-ordered by having this dish)
-dessert were chocolate budino and Panna Cotta (both delicious and the panna Cotta came with this sugared walnut and kiwfruit which complimented the texture of the panna Cotta)
Great service, food and atmosphere! (Definitely need to book a week in advance if you want to go on Friday or Saturday night) Never having been to Italy myself, I feel that this is as close to having Italian food as I'll get in NZ. As mentioned on their website, they make their pasta fresh daily- and you can taste it! I like the fact that you know how and where the ingredients have been sourced- their menus change depending on what's in season and that's what makes every visit unique too!

Nice Italian restaurant, friendly service and delicious dishes, good selection of cocktails and wine

Not what it was , very expensive , service still good
Limited menu have small main and vegetable $50 plus
No Australian wines anymore
Limited NZ whites
Only craft beer
Feel its trading on its past success much better places elsewhere now
Great service. Delicious food and a wonderful vibe.

If you live in Auckland & you haven’t been to Amano yet...well...better try this place out! Even though I love this place (esp their bakery ahhh 😭😍❤️), it’s not something I crave and want to go to all the time (except for its bakery). I must say...Amano is hyped. Hear me out though lol. I genuinely think their food is amazing & I love how you can watch them make their in-house pasta from scratch. I’ve encountered very friendly staff every time I’ve dined here, and the ambiance and interior design are top-notch. But there’s something about this place that leaves me unable to view it as a 10/10 restaurant. I can’t really put my finger on it. It often is just about the feeling I get during and after the dining experience. So yes it’s very subjective but nonetheless, Amano has really shown the Brito food scene something special. Anyway, I mean they’re hyped because people almost only talk about this place and forget about the huge variety of lovely crusines available in Auckland (which we are soo blessed to have!). Also, I personally felt like Amano has dimmed the light of its sister restaurants who are just as great. I was a big fan of Rosie in Parnell but unfortunately that’s not under the HIP Group any longer. They have gone from being scattered all across Auckland to only being based in the Brito area, which is kinda sad but also exciting to see changes in their ex-sisters. Anyway lol big fan of their current sisters Ortolana & Milse so remember to check them out too. They’re very close to Amano :).
-> BE BACK OR BACK AWAY: basically if u cbb reading all that, I love Amano & yes I’ll be back. If you haven’t been, go. If you haven’t checked out their sister restaurants, go.✌️

Been here a few times before. I have to say they are still on the standard level, but not impressed me anymore. But I like bakery so much.

Truffle & riccota croissants @amano_nz available on Fridays of the truffle season only 🖤 have been wanting to try them since last year (especially after seeing @hungushippo posts on them)!! They were sold out around 9am last Friday upon their first release. So I woke up at 8am for them, thanks for joining me on this little adventure @foodiestablenz 🥐🥐
.
💲Price $7/croissant
😋Taste 4.5/5
📍CBD

We love the ambience and staff are friendly. Their breakfast menu is nice & tasty especially the croissants and coffee! For lunch, we especially liked the Chitarra, scampi, soppressata & chilli, Auckland Islands scampi & square strands of egg dough pasta - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Cheers!

The fish was so smooth.

The best pasta in Auckland! This place never fails to amaze me. Staff were very nice and so accommodating. We were able to make our original booking on the day but the staff were able to find us another slot later on in the night.

I’d heard about how good the Chitarra pasta was here so I had to give it a try, and it did not disappoint. The flavours work so well together just bursts in your mouth. The steak was nicely done, medium rare and so juicy. For sides we got the kumara for a change as we always go for fries or potatoes, which I’m so glad we did because the sweetness of the kumara goes so well with the sour cream.

Overall I would definitely come back again. I would highly recommend to make a booking in advance as it was fully booked even on a Sunday evening (we saw walk ins being turned away).

Very atmospheric. One of my favorite places in Auckland. Food is amazing, service is wonderful, prices are worth what u are getting. I always go for pasta and never get disappointed. The only question which bothers me is why they do not do Italian pizza or truffles? This would make the place even more amazing.

THE BEST. THE YUMMIEST. THE GREATEST.

I waited for 15 minutes to be seated, my first dish came 5 minutes later. Then I waited for over 40 minutes for other food I ordered. It just wastes me so much time for waiting. People came after me got their food before me. I don’t know how the waiter and the kitchen manage the order. It was a disaster.
GNUEL
loved everything there! coffee was great, staffs were friendly and quick service… always came back and make sure everything went great for us! food were delicious and nice decor!

An exciting first time! I definitely had higher expectations for the food however. I will come back and order something else next time!

This restaurant is mind blowing. The food is ridiculously good and it has top notch service and a fantastic atmosphere as well. If you haven’t been, get yourself there immediately.
Ming Lee
Amano for me was for the lovely dim romantic atmosphere moreso than the food. Almost certainly will need to wait and spend some $$ at the bar before you get seated. Small portions for the ravioli, fennel salad, and meat (portion gal) and flavours didn't tantalize my taste buds overly. The Chocolate bondino at the end was beautifully presented and rather tasty.
Catherine V
The meals were fantastic, service was great and food came out together and timely. All in all a great experience.
Mnie579
Overall a good experience, just a bit annoying the person who served us kept suggesting alternatives for our orders cause we were all set on what we wanted.

Best Italian I've had! Modern and romantic vibes, staff were very helpful the whole night, and although they forgot the drinks they apologized (a lot) and brought it quickly.
We ordered the scampi pappardelle (can change pasta to your liking), burrata, and smoked warehou pate.
The pate was my favourite. It was creamy but also chunky so there was something to chew on, cold and refreshing but also smoky, great on the hearty bread drizzled with olive oil that they served on the side.
The scampi pappardelle was sweet from the seafood and tangy from the cherry tomato. It was interesting because the sauce was a mix between a tomato and cream base. The pasta was al dente.
The burrata consisted of a dense outer shell of mozzarella and a softer center of stracciatella and cream. It is much less strong in terms of how cheesy it tasted so it was easy to finish the whole lot without being sickening. It was served on a bed of creamy and rather aromatic sweetcorn, and along with the sourdough was a perfect combination.
For two people, we were stuffed!

I went here for my birthday dinner and it was amazing!!! The food was great, champagne was really good, service was really good too. Our waiter was so nice and engaging, such a great ambience and experience. I ordered the scampi pasta with chillies and it was amazing. Loved it so much! We also ordered he steak which was done really well. Also the mozorella focaccia was a great starter.

What a cool place this is! Great vibe, you can come here on a romantic night out or with your mates having a nice feed and making it a night having drinks!

I ordered the Chiattara pasta and boy was it good! The service was awesome and it was reasonably priced.

Will be back here for sure to try other stuff on the menu. These guys have got it right!
Alice
I really liked the pasta. Love them! Will visit again. Need to reserve tables otherwise need to wait long time.

We had to wait about 15mins for our Booked table. The staff were very attentive and checked with the kitchen twice about questions with the dishes.
I had the squid pasta, generous amount of squid bur excessive capsicum for my taste. Dessert menu was nothing special so we went elsewhere
The restuarant itself is beautiful, so many great styling details

Have been here twice in the last week because it’s just THAT good. Had the Scampi pasta on both visits and holy heck, it is the best dish I’ve ever had at a restaurant, no joke. The scampi is tender, the sauce is incredible, the little bits of sourdough crumb give it great texture, and the pasta to seafood ratio is perfect.

My mum had the grilled kahawai fillet the first time, which was delicious and a HUGE portion size - talk about value for money. On our second visit she had the tuatua fritter which was also amazing with great flavour. To accompany the meal we had a side of sweet corn, and the garlic focaccia to start which is filled with mozzarella and has the texture and taste of Pie crust.

I hadn’t been here in a while, but I’ve never had a bad meal here, and the service is always attentive and efficient. Overall, you literally cannot go wrong with Amano, and if you only have time to dine out at one venue in Auckland make it here.
Anna
Relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Our waiter was respectful and very attentive. (Thanks Richard.) Decent portions, flavorful and seafood beautifully fresh. Desserts were delightful too. Menus are apparently printed weekly, so am curious what they offer seasonally. Good place to take your parents or significant others. Well run restaurant. *Applause* *Applause* Will be back in the future.

It's up there compared to most restaurants in terms price but it's also my favourite in the city, so there you go. Absolutely amazing food.
The Poor Foodie
I love this place so much that I want to give 1000/5 instead of 5/5!
Brought my family here for my birthday lunch one day and loved the food. We came here again for dinner two days later.

Since we had five people, we basically tried all the meat in the menu - steak, lamb, duck, pork. Steak was so well cooked and we ordered it again in our second visit. Pork belly was like the braised pork in Asian cuisine. Scampi pasta and spaghetti were amazing (definitely will come back for them again). Octopus was slightly disappointing. Didn’t expect the serving size but the appearance did look great. Should have gone for chargrilled squid😭

I’m glad that my mother enjoyed the vegetarian menu here. She also loved the asparagus and we ordered more for that also.

I highly recommend ordering oysters!! The oysters were not too big but they were so fresh and fat (?). We initially order half a dozen and ended up going for second!

I brought my birthday cake to the restaurant and they helped me store it in the fridge and took it out when it was the right time. They even wrote happy birthday on the plate with choc sauce and helped us take pictures. Staff were all so friendly. The restaurant was busy but they do have a good system of reserving and walk-in👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

These Agnolotti from Latina are yummy. They seem to have a decent amount of filling and we even like to eat a few of them plain straight after they are cooked. The chitarra with tomato and chilli So simple, yet so delicious. It good-quality spaghetti for this dish.THE PASTA comes good woth pinot cris wine. @amano Auckland

The scampi pasta is my all-time favorite, as good as always! 5/5
Beef carpaccio was perfect in texture and seasoning. 5/5
Octopus was the only dish we didn't enjoy, was paper-thin sliced, even thinner than the beef carpaccio lol- very good knife skill tho😂 We almost couldn't feel it when we ate, don't know about others but personally, I want to feel the flavor and texture of octopus when I eat it.
Cocktails here never go wrong so👌

Awesome and vibrant atmosphere! Especially serving sparkling water is an amazing introduction and inviting

Beautifully made and presented food. Top quality ingredients as you would expect. One of the best restaurants in auckland!

We recommend the granola, but also feel a wee bit more flavour could be added to the sweetcorn fritatta such as a salsa or green onion. This restaurant is a beautiful setting for breakfast, and it pays to book beforehand.

One of my favourite places to dine!! They have great service and great food - nothing more you could ask for at a restaurant.

Rating 4.5. There’s really not much to fault with this place, great atmosphere, causal yet classy & hip. I got the sit at the bar, and great to see the kitchen in action. The food was great and reasonably priced. My Tuatua clams spaghetti was al dente and the clams were big & juicy, simply served with tomato & chilli. Must return if I get a chance.
Andrea McMath
Al dente spaghetti cooked to perfection, lovingly embracing tuatua in shells, gently caressed by an butter/olive oil garlic white wine chilli gremolata concoction. Surprisingly satisfying.

The entrees are generous. You won't be leaving hungry.,

And its the little touches that make this place stand out from the rest; the never ending bubbly water our servers gave us, and their unobtrusive attentiveness made our meal even more enjoyable.
Jon Dinglasan
Exquisite cuisine, incredible and great service, friendly people.
Junior Aranui
We had a group booking of 14. My guests and I enjoyed the food, wine, service and ambience.
Renie
Food was very nice! I loved the interior and decorations. Would definitely go back.
Nina
The food was great despite being on the pricey side. The server was quite rude to us and we often felt uneasy when she came over. At one point we could tell she wasn't too happy at helping us with the payment and made us feel a little unwelcome. Makes me feel like I wasn't welcome back even though our bill came to nearly $300.

We came here as a party of seven for a graduation dinner. After hearing how popular they are, I made sure to book well in advance for this busy day.

I ordered the Scampi, Tomato & Chilli Chitarra. Everything about the dish was perfect, the scampi was fresh and meaty, pasta had a beautiful texture and the dish as a whole was seasoned wonderfully.

The interior of the restaurant was very beautiful, spacious and classy. Service was patient and friendly. An amazing restaurant and I’m looking forward to coming back again for another special occasion.
Hannah
This place is so amazing. I loved everything. Cannot fault a single thing 🥰😍
Finally managed to dine at Amano and I was not disappointed - the food was to die for!

Uses asparagus a lot in their dishes (no complaints here) which I assume its a seasonal thing. Loved the scampi tomato chilli pasta, amazed at how this dish tasted, highly recommend! Beef carpaccio is a very light dish, plating is beautiful. The pan-seared scallops were delicious too.

The Charred asparagus is served with yummy sauce, and the beef shin in pasta parcels are stuffed to the max with beef.

For dessert the lemon sorbet & orange granita was the best one, refreshing after all the food. The chocolate budino with orange and hazelnut is very rich and heavy in chocolate flavour. The espresso trifle is also nice, like a chocolatey apple crumble.

For drinks I ordered the negroni as always (yum), for non-alcoholic drinks I recommend the Lemon seedlip drink which is pleasantly sour and cleans out the pallette nicely to taste each dish.

We ordered food to share and when the bill was split didn't turn out that expensive at all (same amount as a meal I had at an average restaurant).
The atmosphere and service was excellent, and the temperature inside is quite warm so don't dress to warmly. Food is served surprisingly quickly.

My favourite place to get pastry in Auckland! I love their doughnuts, almond croissants, pain au chocolate and the canelés. Always grab one of those before work when I am working in town.
Ming_Angela Y
Wife took me here for my birthday. It was certainly a wonderful experience. Very intimate and inviting vibe, we saw families, couples, and individuals - so really suits anyone.

The food was certainly high quality and tasty. And for dessert, they made a special happy birthday candle on my ice cream! (See photos).

Great value for a place that feels and tastes very high end. :)
Natalie QP Chen
My favourite restaurant hands down in Auckland ~ everything is good here , can’t go wrong !
Always very busy though so if you do want to go ~ either make a reservation in advance or go earlier and put yourself on the wait list~
Chan Can Eat
Amazing food here! Everything in the menu we tried was Devine. The interior is fitted out beautifully too. Great for a work lunch, dinner, date, catch up with mates... and the takeaway baked goods are Delish! Their catering is YUM as well, I’ve been to a couple of morning events where they’ve done the croissants, danishes , etc - they’re absolutely Devine!

Went there last night for a dinner with friends. Great food but oh my god the service was SO bad. We were seated just before 7 but didn’t get mains until about 9pm. There was about a half hour wait before we got to order drinks and starters and then another half hour before they came and then it wasn’t even all of it. After waiting to see if it would come we had to go and find another member of staff to ask were the other drinks and entrees were as our waiter seemed to be actively ignoring us. If it wasn’t for seeing other tables being served I think we would have assumed it wasn’t table service. We weren’t checked on for for the whole 4 hours we were there, instead we would have to all stop and try as a group to catch someone’s eye or get up and find a waiter as ours wouldn’t even look at us. At one point my friend called out ‘excuse me’ to our waiter and he just put his hand up to her and walked off. Not that it would have been an excuse but we weren’t a drunk or rowdy table and were really polite considering. I’m giving 2 stars as the food was delicious but man it was such a drawn out and long dinner because it was an absolute battle to get served. Would have expected much more from a relatively upmarket restaurant.
Sandeep Manilal
Excellent ambience and great staff and service. Very buzzy vibe. I've tried some of the lunchtime counter sandwiches. Breakfast once, and dinner a few days ago. The food everytime i've been has been OK. Not great. For dinner a few days ago,I had char-grilled octopus with beans appetizer . It was quite tough and rather charred.
For mains I had the angus sirloin which was ok, The steak itself was cooked ok. I bit underseasoned. I didn't care for the sauce. A sort of green chimichurri looking sauce I think.

In the past I have found the lunchtime counter sandwiches and foccacia pizza very chewy.
Ninahooo
Amazing pastas and wine, enjoyed every bite. Steak was perfectly cooked. Flavours on point. Service was great.

Amano is my happy place. I love everything about it, from the decor, the ambience, watching the kitchen staff at work, to the coffee and food. Everything is the highest quality but at the same time very affordable and accessible to all. I’ve never felt unwelcome or pressured to move on even when coming in to simply enjoy a coffee and the complimentary sparkling water for a couple of hours. The service can be a bit mixed from the wait staff but the kitchen staff and bar staff in particular I have found extremely friendly and knowledgeable as well. See you soon Amano xxx
Sam
Definitely the best restaurant I have been to in New Zealand so far. Did a last minute walk in for my birthday and the restaurant catered wonderfully. I ordered the steak and my partner got the pork cutlet. For the first time in a restaurant, I finished my steak meal wanting more. The meat was beautifully flavoured almost as if the trimming was soaked overnight in some sort of seasoning. I have never tasted steak so good and I've been to multiple steak houses around NZ. The potatoes we got as a side were also so well seasoned, my partner was raving about them for the rest of the night. The desserts were also amazing. So rich and decadent. The espresso martini trifle was the best espresso dessert I have ever eaten. Service was great. Food was great. Will definitely be back again. The best birthday meal so far 👍

Love the food! We visited for a family dinner and tried about 10 dishes - ended up just digging in and forgot to take more photos! Each dish was colourful and packed full of flavour, it was hard to pick a favourite (Tagliatelle, Carpaccio, Duck). Amano has since become our local for coffee and lunch, however there have been several occasions we have been served by grumpy or unhappy looking staff which is a bit of a shame. Go for the food!!
Evgeny Pozdeev
Very good experience, busy evening as always but we booked in advance and had the table ready straight away.
A tiny bit slow with the mains but the food was perfect.
Sharon Louie
I came to Amano on a Friday night without a reservation. My bf and I were quickly seated by one of the friendly staff who worked there. We started off with a cocktail each. I got the kiwifruit and he got the pear. To be completely honest, I didn’t enjoy the kiwifruit as much as the pear cocktail, so I think it’s just my personal taste. I got the pappardelle lamb leg pasta and it was amazing! The pasta was cooked perfectly (al denté) and the dish was well seasoned, especially the olives helped it elevate the saltiness of the dish, making it more flavourful. My bf got the sirloin steak and it was the best medium rare steak I’ve seen, not under and not over. I love all Italian restaurants but I think Amano tops it, definitely a must try and I’ll be back!
Lizzie
Always a great experience dining here! The vibe is so cool, the decor is great and the food delicious! Had the mushroom and pancetta tagliatelle which was so yummy - wish it had been a bit creamier though. One of the best places in Auckland to eat!
Mathetes
The best restaurant in New Zealand.
Every food is simply amazing and the word “disappointment” just cannot coexist with Amano.
Beautiful coffee and cozy but vibrant atmosphere are just extra toppings to Amano.

Definitely high-end in terms of price, but worth every cent.
Lucy
One of the best Italian restaurants in Auckland. Lovely industrial interior and open kitchen design.

The chargrilled ox tongue is rich and tender, the diced onion provided excellently flavor to the beef.
The beef carpaccio is fresh and well spiced. The pappardelle is chewy and sauced in a beautifully braised lamb ragu. Nice presentation to the food.

Friendly staff and quick to serve dishes despite being a busy restaurant. Dining time is a little tight if you didn’t make a reservation.

Highly recommend this restaurant, where the quality of food is always guaranteed.

Taste: 10/10
Presentation: 8/10
Service: 8.5/10
Ambience: 10/10
Value for money: 9/10

Price $50 per person excl alcohol

Came here for dinner the other day and ordered the gnocchi, the pappardelle and the focaccia. I'm not sure if maybe we had super high hopes for the place because of all the hype and 5 star reviews it has received but we honestly found it to be a little underwhelming.

The pappardelle was quite salty but the lamb was tender. The gnocchi was good, had a very soft and buttery texture but the angus beef was a little dry. My favourite was probably the focaccia, it was served warm and tasted great with a splash of olive oil.

It was disappointing too as I was really looking forward to trying their crayfish raviolo but they've recently had a change in menu so was unfortunately not able to.

Overall, a 3/5. The wait staff were nice and attentive - though I would've appreciated being asked if I'd prefer sparkling or still water (but no biggie) and the ambience was great but unfortunately for us, it didn't quite meet the hype :(

Firstly this is one of best places to eat, the atmosphere is really relaxing and stylish. The food is really flavorful and moorish. I definitely rate this place in my top 10 places.

Never disappointed when ever I’m here. Either for a date night or take the family and wee bub... food is simply extraordinary along with their fantastic service! Well recommended. Not cheap but with food this good it doesn’t matter!

Come here at least once a month for breakfast and its always a gem! Service and food are always perfect. Their bakery side is also perfect for quick lunch time drop in.

It was perfect brunch at Amano on Sunday. Pasta was chewy and delicious. I enjoyed watching there cooking. Love to go open kitchen. Staff was kind.

5/5 highly recommend. Cocktails were amazing to begin with. Food was delicious and service was good. Highlight of the night would have to be the desserts. 7 of us eating so got a range to share and wowee stand back jack they were yummy.

I have never been to Amano and been disappointed, this is one of my favourite finer dining restaurants. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the interior is absolutely gorgeous. Their food is so tasty and its guaranteed that whatever you order is going to be a hit. The cocktails are gorgeous, bread delicious, pasta so fresh!! Cant fault amano

I’ve always love the ambience and the space in general, and the food is always amazing no matter what you choose! It’s the perfect place to enjoy your meals, however this time around the waiters weren’t the friendliest.

Food was great yet noisy restaurant. Good for casual dining but not suitable if you are into an upscale Italian one. Ordered pasta. Food was served in a very ‘elegant’ way! One dish of entree might not be enough. Overall a good Italian food restaurant

Fine Dine with a casual, comfortable feel. Pleasant lovely staff that made our lunch even more delectably enjoyable. Our meals were cooked to perfection with amazing flavours. Thank You Amano for the wonderful experience, we will definitely be back with all family and friends to share this encounter of great food, ambiance and superb service.

Three of us went on Monday night without any booking and it was full house. We waited around 20minutes and were put on the side on one of the long tables sharing with other guests. Service was a big disappointment...our staff was unfriendly and lacks warmth and care. After she took our order she literally disappeared the whole time. There was no top up on water/not a single meal check on us during dining and upon paying. The whole experience was like order, eat and leave. On a positively note the food was excellent! However there are better restaurants in Auckland where the waiting staff engage in the process of the meal. I am not sure what went wrong on my visit because most of your other reviews are excellent.

I am a regular visitor of Amano Bakery but it was my first time to have lunch there. I took my husband to Amano for his birthday, we ordered clam spaghetti and flounder which were awesome! The taste of fresh pasta was impressive! Definitely will be back
Kealy Mathews
Had the buffalo mozzarella with basil& tomato for starter and the duck breast with yoghurt& lentils + crayfish pulsante for main. Cheese was delicious, as was the duck breast- very interesting flavours that worked well together. Pasta was not our cup of tea as was very rich. Would definitely go back👍🏼

Great food with good service and overall a lovely place to dine in. These guys take pride in their food and what they serve.

It is pricey for the quantity of food, but the taste is divine.
In a place like #Amano "quality" is everything.
Enjoyed whatever we ordered.
The squid ink pasta is a must try from this place.

Will definitely visit this place again and try something different on the menu 😁

Ambience : ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Food : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Staff : ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Price : ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Amano really never does let me down. How one restaurant can do breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee AND baked goods to such a high standard is beyond me.

As an entree, we got the stuffed courgette blossoms. I haven’t had stuffed courgette blossoms in years so I was very excited to see them on the menu! Each blossom was filled with a mint ricotta and complemented by candied walnuts and topped with crispy flakes and fresh herbs. The freshness of the mint, creaminess of the ricotta, sweetness of the walnuts and crunch of the flakes came together beautifully. 9/10

For the main, I choose one of the two vegetarian pasta options, the sweet corn, chilli and coriander Pene Rigatoni. Although part of me wishes they offered more vegetarian pasta options, I’m also appreciative for the limited menu as it makes deciding very easy. I do love that Amano’s menu is ever-changing to include seasonal produce, and given its coming to the end of sweet corn season, this seemed an appropriate dish to choose. These seemingly Mexican-infused flavours aren’t something I would think of having with pasta. However, I had faith that if anyone could pull off such a flavour combination, it would be Amano. Of course, they did so with flying colours. There was SO much flavour in this dish. The balance of sweetness from the corn, the spice of the chilli and the herbaceous coriander was all brought together by a generous sprinkling of pecorino. As always, the pasta itself was delightfully al-dente. 8.5/10

Amano may not be cheap, but the portion sizes are very generous and I do think the quality justifies the price. Plus, I found out they do offer doggy bags if you can’t finish your meal, which is something I really respect a restaurant of this calibre for doing!

Easily one of my favourite restaurants in Auckland and I will certainly keep returning.

Amazing pastas, dessert and smoothies, should definitely try, the staffs are also helpfull, I love how they do the open kitchen and it’s really entertaining to watch🖤

Hard to go past this amazing restaurant! A definite must eat! Flavors are endless and the quality is superior! What a way to do food! For anyone wanting a great night out I highly recommend!

If you had heard good things about this place, then let me tell you, what you heard are all true.
We went to amano for simple lunch today, and were lucky to get a seat for two without booking. The restaurant are quite busy and the ambience are great. The servers are nice to help us work though the menu, as we are new to the restaurant .
The food, oh dear, are amazing. If you are still on the fence due to the higher price, dont be. Despite having a rather expensive price, once you tried the food, you will see that it is indeed every dollar well spent. The pasta are freshly handmade, you could easily taste the freshness. The foods are all seasoned beautifully, the flavors are rich and complex.
Overall, i would this is one of the best Italian food experience ive had, and will be revisiting for sure. If you are a foodie and you love Italian food, i cannot recommend this place enough, 10/10.

We arrived at amano and we’re greeted by the lovely staff. Had a pre dinner drink and shown to our table after 15 minutes a nice intro to the place. We order our mains pasta and sirloin steak, and a side of vegetables. The pasta was very tasty, steak arrived beautifully cooked medium rare but unfortunately it was cold. They reheated the steak and no charge for it, great. By the time my steak arrived back my partner had finished her meal so the evening was spoilt a bit. But thank you trying to rectify the situation.
Luz !
Very pretty and big, open kitchen and nice design. Menu could be more attractive. Frittata for breakfast was very good. I feel it is a bit overrated as there is nothing really special about it, but it is enjoyable and I would go back.

Highly rated, one of the highest and for good reason. Food is hyper fresh and always consistently on that level, service is always friendly, almost too many people working everytime I've been. They certainly take it seriously and the location is wonderful and expansive. Most places in the CBD are cramped and over priced vs. the fare, not here. Get fresh bread from here all the time, baked on site, always fantastic. Will come for dinner here soon...

Amano is a place that meets almost all aspects perfectly. Its tucked away in britomart underneath the fairy lights scattered throughout the area. It balances causal and high end really well catering for all.

The service here is amazing, the food comes out at a good pace (an almost perfect pace between courses). The staff are super friendly and highly professional, you definitely get looked after well here!

The atmosphere and aesthetic of the place is great. It's a mix of rustic and high end, with an overall decor that is extremely nice and eloquent. It has a rather romantic atmosphere providing a great experience for any occasion. There is a real buzz about this place, it's very popular and can sometimes be hard to get into, but don't let that deter you! As it's well worth a wait.

The food here is the real showpiece. It's a menu designed for sharing, but you don't have to as it still easily allows for non-sharing also. All the dishes are amazing and I would recommend all. But a few favourites are definitely the lamb, the kahawai (it's not often kahawai is on the menu!), kingfish crudo, and the mozzarella. The menu also does a good job at catering for gluten intolerant individuals, whereby most dishes cater for this. The drinks list is also very good with a wide range of options.

Overall this place is fantastic it doesn't really present any downfalls. The staff are friendly, the service professional, the aesthetic beautiful, and the food delicious! Enough said.

Got the clam sphagetti, beef carpaccio, tuna and mozarella. Favourite was the clam sphagetti - wonderful infused flavours from the cherry tomatoes and love the firmness of the sphagetti. The fried mozarella bread is every deep fried and cheese lover's dream. Tuna and beef textures are so succulent with very flavoursome garnishes. Make sure you make a booking because this place gets busy, even during lunch.

This was such a fantastic dinner. We got the focaccia, clam spaghetti, and crayfish filled pasta. Indulgent, rich, and filling - wow! Dessert was two super delicious gelatos (salted caramel and hazelnut praline). Would definitely come back!

Vibe is soo good! Food is good as well!!! Especially the cheese! I do recommend everyone should try their cheese, which is the best I’ve ever had in Auckland !!!

10/5 stars if possible! This is hands down one of my absolute favorite restaurants to dine at. Where do I start ❤️

They have the tastiest seasonal menus that offer the most delicious and authentic Italian dishes- none of them had ever failed me. On top of that, the ambiance of this place is superb- fantastic background music, love the decor and is super spacious. It’s often busy so you need to book ahead to avoid bar seating. That said though , the bar seating is great if you want to catch some action of the chefs cooking up your delicious dishes.

Service is impeccable- so great that I willingly leave tips behind because it’s just that worth it!
Went to Amano for brunch with a friend as it’s been hyped up by a lot of people on Instagram. The food and pastries here are honestly amazing. I ordered the frittata which tastes so good - the egg was well cooked but not over done, and also ordered an almond croissant which was crispy on the outside by soft on the inside 😍😍😍

Come here for a quick lunch often.

$9 sandwiches are quick and delicious!

They fill you up and are amazing. Even grab a sneaky dessert at times!

Best Authentic Italian Spot. Presentation of the cocktails are amazing. Ordered one Expresso Cocktail and Aperitivi. Drinks flavours were good. Food was delicious too.

We ate here yesterday for my birthday. It was pretty busy but the staff were very accommodating and friendly. The foods are a bit pricey but the taste was succulent. They’re flavourful and when it comes to plating-excellent! We’ll definitely come back here.👍🏻

3 of us had lunch here on a Tuesday and were seated immediately! Our table was in dark, high traffic area so wasn’t exactly the nicest ambience but the lovely server we had and the great food made up for it. 2 of us went for the new mafalda dish whereas the third party member was able to order the meatball sandwich which caught her eye from their gorgeous inhouse bakery.

Italian food in Britomart Auckland.

High rating restaurant in Google and TripAdvisor.
Very busy even around 3:00pm.

We ordered Spaghetti, Kahawai and Lamb, all good, especially the Spaghetti.

Highly recommended.

Came to Amano for a quick brunch few months ago. Love the rustic but modern atmosphere and decoration. Don't be surprise if you've seen a photo of an amazing dish on zomato but could not find it on the recent menu, they change their menu quite often and the lovely staff would love to help you find something similar. Beautiful cappuccino won my heart. Perfect brunch so I can't complain about the price, totally worth it!
Tan.ned
Their meals are amazing! The prices can definitely be justified with the skills displayed in their meals. The service was also very professional and the environment also felt very comfortable. A tad pricey but highly recommend this place. They have interesting flavour combinations.

very high rating place, I may have ordered the wrong food, none of the dishes pleased us, the flounder tasted just like the steamed fish with no sauce. The kids pasta was disappointing, she is such a pasta lover but only ate a small amount and ended up with an empty stomach. We had to go to other place for a 2nd lunch.

Yinya Shi
love love love Amano!!! The clam spaghetti is just amazing, something i crave for very often! Customer service is always great!
Only downside is there isn’t a huge range of selection on the menu.
Overall a beautiful restaurant, would highly recommend!!!

Every time I come here I’ve had an amazing meal.

Recommend the focaccia as an entree and share your food! Their portion sizes reflect the prices so you get quite a lot of food.
Get a few pastas maybe a seafood/meat dish and a side depending on how many people there is.

This restaurant was amazing. One of the best meals we have ever had. The beans side was divine. We ate the Sirloin Steak which as cooked perfectly, had well balanced and unique flavours. The Crayfish pasta was amazing also. We finished off by trying the blue cheese and a coffee. The coffee was better than a Melbourne coffee (and we love our coffee) and the combination of bread, walnut, blue cheese and honey has inspired us to emulate at home. The meal was absolute perfection.

Enjoyed brunch at this location in the city with some colleagues. Surprisingly busy around 9:30am. Ordered the below dish. Although quite expensive & appeared small quantity wise I actually found it really filling. There was a lovely sauce that came with it. Would return again when the wallets full.

Amazing. Friendly welcome, exceptional service. Loved the high ceilings, airy spaces and mix of table types. We sat at a huge big table with another small group at the other end who were so far away it was fine. It’s a huge table. The food is out of this world. Menu changes from day to day - I had squid ink tagliatelle and every mouthful was just amazing.

I just love this place. The ambience is amazing, service is amazing, the food is amazing. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 have a good meal and take away a twisted chocolate puff for snack.

We went for brunch about a month ago and ordered the granola, pork shoulder and prosciutto with potato hash. Everything was delicious and it was such a nice experience. The macadamia valrhona hot chocolate was one of the best hot chocolates I’ve ever had, so rich and nutty.

Came here for dinner last year so their menu has changed quite a bit already. Luckily you can still order the scampi chitarra, which was the star of the meal. Beans were delicious and flavourful (not on the current menu but I think they bring them back seasonally). Pork dish was good. One thing I’m glad they got rid of was the clam pasta on the bottom left, which was very oily, under seasoned (verging on bland) and quite gritty (sand wasn’t cleaned from the clams properly). Could’ve just been unlucky but kinda put off since then...

Nothing to fault about this place. Been in Auckland for 5 years now and this is the best restaurant I have been to, everything is perfect. Staff and friendly and attentive too 😊

Very nice location and environment!also got the best bakery. Staffs are friendly but they forgot to order my pasta. Other food all good. Delicious and presentation is pretty.

Definitely lived up to the hype! Went there for the first time and the service was so personalised and the waiter really helped our big group choose what’s best for us. The only thing for me especially was that it was a bit pricey, but I think the occasional trip to Amano doesn’t hurt the wallet too much. I especially really liked the chargrilled lamb. Perfectly cooked with a really proportional amount of redness in the middle.
James Bramin
The food was incredible. We went to Amano for breakfast and dinner and loved the food both times. The waiters are friendly and attentive. I initially had an unpleasant interaction with a rude host which I mentioned to the management of the restaurant. They quickly addressed the issue and went out of their way to make sure I had a great experience the next time I went to the restaurant. Aside from the one rude host the staff I encountered were incredibly efficient and professional, thank you for the fantastic experience, we will be coming back again!!!

I had been waiting to try Amano for almost a year and finally went with great anticipation. I was not disappointed. I had the lamb shoulder as a main and it was absolutely beautiful. The beef carpaccio was also amazing and the dessert cocktail that I had (amaretto?) was to die for. Service was absolutely top notch, as to be expected in a well-known restaurant like this. Highly recommended.
Reid Craig
Overrated! How does it have a 4.9 rating? Crayfish ravioli tasted like imitation crab, chicken had no flavor, and the half an eggplant side looked flattened. The best part was the crusted parmesan on the eggplant side and the fresh pear juice. I gave 2 stars for the decor!
Sasha McCormick
Me oh my this is the best meal in AKL! I can’t rave about this place enough. As a coeliac there were plenty of gluten free options and the staff were impeccably trainer on the difference between gluten-free and coeliac! From start to finish the meal was absolutely superb, with the highlights from our table being the ricotta stuffed courgette flower, chargrilled kahawai, and the espresso trifle. As mentioned the staff were super well trained which resulted in outstanding service. I was also surprised to see how reasonably priced everything was - from the food to the wine nothing was overpriced. Can’t wait to come back!

Excellent food and the customer service. The staff was attentive, helpful and lovely. We tried the Pappardelle and Pork and they were both delicious. The combination of octopus, tomato, chilli and olive on Pappardelle pasta was just divine. The pasta sauce was so tasty while the South Canterbury white pork belly was tender and well seasoned. Definitely will go back again.

Disappointed!!
When I first visited Amano few months ago, the food was fantastic, staff were friendly and we felt welcoming.
But today, maybe because it’s holiday season and perhaps lack of staff? not sure but food was too salty, pasta noodle was too soggy, sauce was greasy and poor service-there was no attention from staff at all while we were eating.
We had to seek for staff to get more water and no staff asked us if the food was fine until we left.
When we were about to leave, floor staff came and rushed to clear our dishes without saying anything.
well.... This place is getting too popular and getting arrogant?!? Quite sad experience today.
Faye Stubbs
Took me a while to get to this place but it was certainly worth the wait. Impeccable service heightened everything. The food was stunning, the environment is just lovely. Not too loud, nicely spaced and very reasonably priced for a very a delicious time out. The menu changes but the day we went we had the mozzarella foccaica bread and the burrata from the Dairy section. I had the raviolo which was so damn tasty... my friends had octopus and shellfish .. we shared dessert..
a few wines and a great experience. Already looking forward to going back.
So what I absolutely LOVE is the service- WHAT EXCELLENT STAFF! Congratulations to Amano’s for a lovely courteous set of people who took assiduous care of each and every patron.
The appetiser I chose was the stuffed zucchini blossom - YUM! Was very well done and with tiny zucchinis as the stalk! And can we talk about the walnut whatchoomacallit on the side - HEAVEN!
The one theme that went through that night was LEMON. This place is obsessed with lemons and lemon zest is EVERYWHERE- not that it’s a bad thing - but they use it to the extent that it overpowers EVERYTHING. By the end of it, I was sick of citrus - when they presented us with limoncello to round off the meal! WHAAT! It was just too much!
Going back to the meal, the main dish was a ravioli without the meat - I need to break this up into three parts. 1 the ricotta stuffing - the stuffing of the ravioli was pure poetry! 2 the pasta - was disappointing an stiff rather than tender 3 the sauce - was GROSS! Too much, too lemony and the courgettes and squash were boring to say the least.
Did not have dessert, but opted for a cappuccino which was alright.
Drinks was apricot something- totally yum and served with a fruit leather.
Damages upwards of 100 dollars- totally worth it and will certainly be back.

Came again for the bakery - the croissants were DELICIOUS!

Overall, Amano does a great job. Excellent service and good food (I’m treating the ravioli as an aberration, as it was modified to be vegetarian which I think throws the chefs off sometimes).

Will I be back? most certainly!

Great place to go if you want to impress someone. Overall the experience was pretentious (not necessarily a bad thing) but definitely not relaxed dining. Good food.

I was really excited to try Amano for dinner having only been here for brunch, and was unfortunately underwhelmed. Most probably because I had received so much hype around the food.
I couldn’t take photos as my partner didn’t want me to spoil our anniversary dinner (but I snuck a couple) but we had;
Thin Olive bread - 4/5 (needed more basil!)
Chargrilled octopus - 3/5
Chargrilled lamb - 5/5 (fav dish)
Crayfish pasta 2/5 - undercooked and cold. Couldn’t taste much crayfish
Yoghurt panacotta- 5/5
Espresso trifle 3/5 - needed more sponge/filling ratio. And some chocolate!

I will go back and try a few more pasta dishes, and the star rating was boosted due to the amazing service and atmosphere. The staff are fantastic and friendly and go out of their way to make your experience unique. Sadly the food wasn’t on point but I’d love to go back and be proven differently!

Amazing food and service! Definitely recommend their steak and also their scampi pasta.
Not feeling the decor but it's a future institution so its just how it is.
Service is good and friendly without prejudice and the food has always been consistent with multiple visits

Busy busy ambience with delicious food. Ordered: chargrilled kahawai and crayfish egg dough pasta. Everything about this restaurant is fresh! The fish was huge and packed with subtle flavours that made the soft fish amazing! The pasta was so bouncy and fresh. Could taste the egg. Lots of crayfish and citrus slaw that made the pasta flavourful. Very busy so best to book.

Just can’t fault this place (yet and hopefully won’t) I’ve been there couple times and every time the food and service were good! Photos from breakfast menu on Sunday morning about 10-11 and the place was already full! Chargrilled pork shoulder was just like a big piece of meaty ham with perfect poached egg and some side tomatoes salad. I personally hate eating fresh tomatoes but I could swallow this salad easily - really well seasoned! Pasta that I can’t even know how to pronounce the name was cooked to perfection. Frittata was already really yummy, not just boring and bland taste frittata. Service was good though they were really busy. A restaurant you should come when you visit Auckland or live in Auckland!

I reckon this is the best Italian restaurant in town! Went there many times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and still loving it! Definitely worth the money!!

Love their beef, & their scampi pasta!!!

Favourite restaurant in town

Honestly, extremely overrated. We ordered the mozzarella focaccia, chargrilled octopus, Chitarra (scampi pasta), rump steak, potatoes and asparagus. The octopus smelled very fishy (nothing like octopus I've eaten hundreds of times before) and when I called the waiter over she was argumentative and told me that I'm mistaken since the octopus is fresh. The awful taste that lingered in my mouth and ruined my palate for my own scampi pasta tells me otherwise. This dish was changed for oysters. I'd rate everything else 2-3/5 stars. The drinks we ordered were delicious. 1 star for the poor service and below average to average food.

Good food, nice presentation and good taste. A special lunch in the city, love the surroundings and decoration. Just a suggestion: improve the deserts menu please. For that price I think they can do better and with more ingredients. Not talking about the chocolate pudding in the photo, am taking about the Marscarpone gelato. Thanks

Amano never disappoints! It was my second visit last night and the service was exceptional. The octopus dish was to die for if you are a seafood fan. I can't wait to go back.

I have heard Amano Restaurant is very good.
So I tried to make a booking but it was hard to get. I had attempted 3-4 times for a dinner booking. I recommend to make a booking a month before or at least 3 weeks before. When I finally went the restaurant I understand why so popular. Yes food were very good, delicious and pretty.
Also the service and interior were very good. I really enjoyed the experience.

Always wanna try this restaurant and didn’t get disappointed. I ordered the chargrilled lamb which was just amazing! The juicy meat came with the creamy goat cheese and the fresh salad. My friends ordered the ox tongue and the steak both were super delicious. Service is friendly and accommodating, recommend!

Went here for a farewell dinner with friends. We got a big 16 seater wooden table reserved for us in a corner near the entrance of the restaurant. The table made it hard to talk, as it was very big. The good thing is that there was enough space for people to shuffle over to chat to one another.

The food was delicious, although a bit pricey for the portions you get. Sparkling water was a free bonus! 😃 The decorations and the mood of the restaurant and service was excellent.
Would come again to try their pastry, desserts, and drinks.

Food: 8/10
Atmosphere: 9/10
Service: 10/10

Note: If you wish to reserve a table for 16+ people, you will need to use their set lunch or dinner menu which costs from $65-$75pp.

Bloody amazing place. The place to go in Auckland. The pastries are incredible, diverse and tasty. They have amazing fresh juices full of complex and varied ingredients. Service and the staff are friendly and helpful. The ambit is eclectic and open.

truly amazing!! me and my friend have been dying to come here since last year and that finally came true. and all I can say is it has exceeded our expectations. the staff were very helpful, charming and accommodating. the food was amazing, hence our plates were fully cleaned out. and the atmosphere was just so inviting.

Will definitely come back and keep on coming back!

Had an amazing time here! The service is amazing and the food is even better (if possible).
There’s also the Amano Bakery next door/on the side with the most delicious pastries!

Personally would recommend the cacio de pepe (pasta) as well as the ox tongue as a starter!

I can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu as well as some more desserts!
Nicola
Everything was wow! The only so-so dish was the chicken that wasn’t as moist as we thought it would be. Both lamb dishes were crazy good (the lamb shoulder took 45mins to cook though so be prepared to wait - totally worth it), the tarakihi was absolutely perfect , beetroot tasted 1000x better than it looks, eggplant was perfect I would have happily had it as my meal :) also had the asparagus which isn’t pictured that I totally recommend.

We walked down to Britomart this morning intent upon having coffee, etc at Amano which has had splendid reviews. The place was buzzing at 10.30am. Great coffee, nice service, pain aux raisins not quite so good (nothing like those at La Cigale) - had to ask for sugar and Himself nearly used the salt, assuring me it was definitely sugar. Will return for lunch undoubtedly.

Can’t fault this place on anything. Superb service, food came out very quick despite being observably busy and very high quality tasty food. Highly recommend the pasta and definitely do dessert!

Food: 1/5Service: 3/5Portions: 2/5I have heard so many great things about Amano and I was so excited to go there for my birthday dinner, but I feel it's a lot of hype with little substance. For the price and premium feel of the place definitely expect a bit more substance. We ordered the Clam Spaghetti & Lamb Ragu Pappardelle - the lamb was decent but nothing exceptional. The spaghetti was really inedible though, it was so salty (and trust me I like my food pretty salty) it was like eating mouthfuls of salt. The exceptional service was really the shining point here though, my waitress asked me to pick any other dish and kept reassuring us not to apologise (felt really bad for sending it back). Ended up picking the scallops but that too was a lacklustre, bland dish with a bit too much salt. The only redeeming element on the food end was the salted caramel gelato - which was the perfect balance of sweet. TLDR; Service was amazing, tone it down on the salt though.

Went to Amano on a hunch and was blown away. Buzzing atmosphere great food and great wine. Tried the crayfish tortellini and a cured meats dish with bread. Both were amazing

Great ambience and awesome service. They keep changing the menu everyday. I tried chargrilled chicken witlof, garlic, & lemon in meat and Tagliatelle, mushroom sourdough and yolk pasta. Pasta was just like normal home made pasta, didn’t feel anything different in taste. Would not prefer to order the pasta again. Chargrilled chicken was nice worth trying. The place is too busy would not prefer for a peaceful dinner. Didn’t enjoy the music as it was too noisy but enjoyed the drink at the bar. Would like to go back again.

Amano, another great discovery in Auckland. Fresh made pasta, freshest seafood. Delicious. Cooking that respects and celebrates produce. Great space, very good service.

13/08/2018
I have heard so many people raving about Amano this year, so decided to come with my friend. We came on a cold rainy Monday night and it was full house and two lots of people front us were told to wait for a table. Luckily I have booked in advance and the person the phone was super helpful and friendly.

What I really love about Amano is they offer more varieties of hot beverages (not just coffee and tea), I didn't want a cold drink in a cold rainy night. We ordered two dishes and a side to share, to be honest, the taste was very average to me, or maybe I just didn't order the right dishes? Portion sizes are maybe a bit on the smaller side.

Food: 7.5/10
Drink: 9/10
Presentation: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Ambience: 9/10
Portion: 6.5/10
Price: $76 for two
Amano, ti amo; Amano, I ADORE YOU. I’ve always been a little proud of myself for first discovering Amano and buying its pastries back in the days when it was just a tuck shop. The pastries are fresh, innovative and always perfectly executed. Having been a fan of all these years, I’ve actually only “brunched” into (😜 ) their breakfast and brunch selection but never really dinner.

Great atmosphere, trendy and busy. We were lucky to grab a seat for two of us during brunch. I’d recommend calling to reserve a table if you have a bigger group. Excellent coffee, excellent service, and food was delicious. I ordered the tomatoes, ricotta sourdough and my friend ordered the avocado on toast with a poached egg. YUM great sourdough. Will def return and hopefully try more of their bakery goods.

A very cute place for brunch! We visited around 12pm and it was very busy, luckily we got a seat.

I really enjoyed the mozzarella, seasoned well with some beautifully ripe tomatoes. Nice and simple.
And the espresso and mascarpone trifle was delicious, well balanced and the crumble was deliciously crumbly.
Definitely one of the better joints I’ve visited in a while.

The staff are attentive and friendly. Decor is very mod and cute, I love the flower decorations everywhere. Very cute place for lunch date and I definitely will be back to sample more from the menu. Highly recommended if you want to impress someone

Great food, great service! Very attentive and friendly staff. We were served by Zoe who did an amazing job. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Love the food there, a very good environment to have dinner with family and friends. Everything is really fancy and really well decorated. The lighting of inside is a bit dim which makes it really hard to see. But overall, the food is fantastic! Would go again!

A chic place which was surprisingly full at around 11 am on a weekday. It seemed like most people around us were in for breakfast meetings or their morning coffee breaks. We ordered the prosciutto and the mafaldine pasta with the berry ice tea. The prosciutto only had a little ham (ironic!!!), but the pasta was pretty good. The croissant ordered separately was fresh and buttery. The place serves sparkling water by default so make sure you ask for still if needed.

This is by far the best restaurant I've had the pleasure to enjoy in Auckland. Finally an NZ restaurant that understands that flavour and texture are important

Amano a no go,Service was good, crayfish tortellini was tasteless but the rest was OK.Was asked to move after finishing dinner which we didn't mind but they insisted we did not drink at the bar and stuck us in the most awkward spot possible. The guy there was a little hitler.Overpriced for the average food .We went to Azabu the night before and the place and food was stunning.

I had heard Amano doesn’t take bookings (could be wrong) so I decided to try my luck and wander in for lunch one day. The waiter was very lovely and gave us the option to sit on the bar or at a sharing table.

She was very friendly and polite, told us about the specials and left us to decide on the menu.

Looking around the restaurant, you couldn’t help but admire the decor. The open kitchen with seafood on display and bold lights hanging from the ceiling told you this definitely wasn’t your average restaurant.

The food was also really good! We ordered a perfectly cooked medium rare wagyu steak and seasonal oysters.

Definitely recommend!

I had the most amazing pasta here. I chose the Lamb Ragu Papardelle and it was absolutely delicious. Service was outstanding and the atmosphere was very nice. Food and drinks are quite pricey but it was worth it.

Went for brunch with a couple of friends on Sunday. Food was really good, service was probably THE worst I have ever had the misfortune to experience at a fancier restaurant. I’d like to say that we remained polite the whole time, thanking the staff for everything multiple times.

1, Our main waitress looked like she hated being there the entire time, did not crack a single smile, we had to ask for things 2 or 3 times, and made faces at some customers behind their backs which I again, had the misfortune to witness.

2, My friends and I asked for a chair or a stool to put our handbags on (the table next to us was doing the same). A waiter brought us one, but 20 minutes later he asked for it back stating that he REALLY needed the chair back. He then proceeded to place the chair at a empty table in an area where nobody was sitting. Nobody sat there for the entire time we were there.

3, We politely asked a second waiter to bring us another chair, which he obliged. Then, the first waiter comes to talk to the second, and my friend overheard him say “chairs are not for bags” and other snickering things.
I look around, and sure enough, multiple tables were using chairs for handbags and clothes. Why the double standard waiter one? Why not do the same to the table of older European women next to me and my friends - 3 young girls of Asian descent?
Also, if you’re going to talk and snicker about customers, don’t do it within their earshot.

I spoke to the manager before we left about the chair issue, funny thing was that our main waitress saw us and looked extremely nervous and actually looked like she wanted to step forward and join the conversation. So I guess she DOES realize her service was less than satisfactory.

Manager was great, he was apologetic and explained that the waiter was new. Nevertheless, I think more training is a pretty pressing matter.

Have been to Amano a few times... coffee catch ups, brunch, lunch, etc. The service is always excellent. Their staff are an asset to their brand. The menu is small but what they do, they do amazingly well. Have always been happy with the food, coffee and service. Keep it up guys.

Atmosphere and service are amazing. The food...not so much. I was really disappointed by the crayfish tortellini. It had a very strange flavour and simply wasn't very nice. It was also a tiny portion for the price. My friend had better luck with the agnolotti. We also shared the broccoli which was horrible. It came out as a massive full head of broccoli which was burnt, tasted foul and was hard to eat. The bread was very plain and thin and the cheese it was stuffed with had no flavour, reminded me of a bad quesadilla. Can't say I'll be back
Nina
Excellent service and staff. Constantly making sure the customer is happy. We ordered the half chicken and The Tagliatelle. Both delicious but the Tagliatelle was toooooo eggy, it began to stink up that I could hardly appreciate the mushroom and sauce. The food was ok, not too blown away.

Delicious coffee too.
Tarina
Glad I finally ate here. It was nice but I wasn't blown away by the food. Excellent service and great atmosphere. There are def other places I'd try before coming back.
Zamily
Great food and perfect service. We ordered the Lamb Ragu and the Scampi Chitarra. Both were exceptional and flavourful. Definitely don't skip dessert, as the Espresso and Mascarpone Trifle was our favourite dish. Will definitely be back!
Nade
Been to Amano reasonably regularly since they opened. Brilliant food & great service. Good food cooked and served to perfection. Absolutely nothing beats their gnocchi.
Miko Cañada Lapasaran
the best decision to bring our family friends who were visiting NZ for the first time! it was our first time as well and it did not disappoint. we were not able to book a table because no one was answering. but we did not wait long at all! the best Lamb i ever tried. will come back again soon!
Kaitlyn Tyler
Called in for a juice & takeaway sandwiches. The atmosphere was awesome and although my visit was short I’ll definitely be back again. Service was fast, food was ammmmazzzzing, and my boyfriend will not stop raving about the fried chicken sandwich, which is a must try! Will be back!
The Kai King
Amazing atmosphere, really nice staff and chilled vibes. The food was okay, nothing amazing considering the price.
I’m not sure I would go back, however I enjoyed the experience.

Best food in Auckland! Came here on a cold Thursday evening and was welcomed with open arms into this warm, vibrant restaurant. Service was fantastic and food was even better! Had the burrata for my entree, it was delicious! For my main I had the lamb ragu pappardelle pasta which was the highlight of the night. The pasta was so yummy and the lamb was so tender. The olive tapenade on top was a lovely flavour addition. For dessert, the chocolate budino- so yum! Would highly recommend this restaurant if you were in town.
Deepali Dhingra
Nice vegetarian food, Had Gnocchi , it's difficult to find good vegetarian food with lots of flavor
But this place totally nailed it
Little expensive and slow service but food was worth the wait.
João Plácido
Charming, welcoming, a true feast for all your senses.
Design, staff, mood is all top shelf.
The good..to die for.
I suggest the gnocchi, the octopus and the chargrilled chicken.
For desserts the tamarillo and the espresso.
A must do in Auckland.

Everything is perfect, except speed. We sat down at 11:10, finishing ordering three dishes 11:15, waited and waited, finally got our dishes ready till 11:55. Yes tasty dishes and excellent service, but the speed should be faster, especially at this off-peak time.

Second visit on Monday evening, no long waiting this time. Great service and fast food serve. However I still can’t give them five stars, as all dishes were too salty for us (delicious though). Emmmm, probably the chef should reconsider the sodium intake when preparing the recipe.
Rocky Guo
knock!amazing flavour of the Crayfish tortellini!very fresh and smooth, especially have it with sauces n cheese
carpaccino cooked by a very creative approach, actually,it is without cooking,u just eat with special sauce and vege and thin slices of mango, that kind of pure and deli taste!
nice broccoli,u can feel it is really BBQed with flavour ingredient in the flame for a ripe time unlike some chef contempt with our broccoli😂😂 em,5*

Fine ambiance and great food. Such a unique and classy interior to keep your eyes busy. If you want a restaurant that provides an experience that makes you actually feel good after then I would suggest Amano. Downside in my opinion would be weekend lunch period when it’s busy and its hard to enjoy to the fullest with back to back tables around.
Husk Creative
Christmas is iconic at Husk for being one of the most memorable Husk lunches of the year. Reasons being a) the locations are always epic, b) Husks’ “favourite things” present tradition and c) cocktails. Hip Group’s Amano been on everyone’s foodie radar for ages and we were absolutely spoiled. These guys take the freshest ingredients and are able to draw out the purest of flavours from each one — sounds basic but really not. Also loving the range of yummy greens and seafood — our favourite pescaterian had more than two food choices for once! The industrial fit-out with sepia tones and dried flowers hanging from the roof were a visual feast; while the wealth of staff on the floor ensured each table were well looked after. We think every restaurant should strive to be like Amano, but maybe we’re biased.
Check out our individual food reviews here: husk.co.nz/lunches/amano

What a fine example of what Auckland needs to see more of and people are voting with their feet as the place was pumping on a Monday lunch. Got a cracking seat at the bar, nice comfy chairs, plenty of room and looking into an amazing open kitchen watching all the food prepared and then cooked it’s a great setup. The bread comes with one of the nicest olive oils ever which you can buy and also butter too... usually it’s one or the other but not here... bread is unbelievably and baked in house too. I had the lamb ragu pappradelle which was unbelievably good. Along with some extra bread it was a tremendous experience and reasonably priced for what you get too.

Half of the tables are for bookings and other half are for walk ins. Which is great because they’re almost always booked out all the time!

The staff were amazing, they didn’t sell bullet proof coffee but I asked and they made it. #datservice
I came for lunch and ordered off the breakfast menu so maybe my review on food doesn’t reflect their true potential. I mean come on, my plate of mince looked like poop. It was tasty though with bits of fried pork fat hidden.

For argument’s sake, the missus reckons it’s a 5/5, it’s her favourite restaurant.

Anyway...
Amazing staff 5/5
Food 3.5/5
Coffee 5/5
Setting 5/5
Availability and parking 3/5

Beautiful restaurant and great ambience. Service was too slow for me; it took a good 30 mins from orders to plates on the table. Food was a mixed bag for me. I believe that food should be tasty whether its posh or cheap eats. The extra buck(s) are for the chef/restaurant to impress me. And I just wasn’t impressed. My lamb was a little over medium, with hardly any pink. Still tasty but texturally chewier than I would have liked it. The chocolate budino was good but I would have preferred a nutty and biscuity crunch element to the chocolate tablets and caramel sprinkles. My dining mate, who is not a foodie asked afterward “how do you feel about dinner”. We both agreed that the ingredients were beautiful but it could have been prepped better. Also, would love to see actual cloth napkins. Good restaurant, but hoping to see improvements.

Hosted a business dinner here tonight. I've never had so many staff welcome me in and say goodbye, the service was amazing and the Staff:Patron ratio was up there. The food was really delicious and for the first time I've seen in a while, the non alcoholic drinks menu was decent!

My only warning is this place isn't cheap - but you certainly get what you pay for. That broccoli side dish is going to be bigger than you expect.

My friends from Chch came to visit me last weekend, and we had the best time there ever in Auckland. Great food, great service, great atmosphere even it was raining heavily outside. Strongly recommended!

Stopped by on a Friday without a reservation and managed to get a table after a bit of a wait with drinks. We opted to eat at the counter instead of waiting for a table to become free which was a good idea since we could see the food being prepared (although we were on the far end so didn't get to see much apart from the prep).

After ordering we were told that we might have gotten a bit too much for two but we continued ahead since we were hungry. We started with the stracciatella and had two fish mains and a bowl of pasta. Portions were well sized so a main and pasta would have been ok. Being the piggies we are, we ate through all the food and still got a dessert.

the place itself was quite interesting, large and open with dried items hanging everywhere. I thought it was a bit on the hot side though. Food was really well cooked and delicious. I don't think you could really go wrong here since it was all quite tasty.

I like the Hip Group.

They do nice food, nice venues and good service. I like that they have their own bakery, farm and are venturing into their own wines. I like that all their outlets are distinctively Hip Group but all slightly different.

I would like to rate Amano higher but...
It was good but not really good enough.

The wine was nice, a great selection.

The decor is lovely, the toilets are nice. The music was great and I enjoyed watching the staff in.The kitchen, and working the floor who appeared to be enjoying their place of work.

The food was alright but not fantastic and I find that with all the Hip Group outlets.

The stuffed thin olive bread we had was not really stuffed. The bread was a bit dry and bland and really needed something more. The pasta was a bit more stodgy than I like and overwhelmed the delicate crayfish filling.

The octopus was so chewy and flavourless I gave up. But I licked everything else off my plate.

My rhubarb and chocolate dessert was divine.

Went for dinner on a Wednesday night around 6pm. We had booked thurs/Friday the week before and already they could only secure our table for an hour, so you should definitely book.

We ordered two sets of the mushroom agnolotti, the chicken main, scampi pasta and the stracciatella. The stracciatella I actually found underwhelming considering all the great reviews. I enjoyed the pastry dough but I felt there was an element missing like some chutney or jam to add a sweet element, because it was very bland. The pastas however were absolutely delicious! Never had better pasta. Was also very surprised at how large the portion sizes were for a fine dining restaurant. Definitely good quality and quantity for the price.

We also had the chocolate budino and rhubarb dessert to finish which was nice and light. I am not usually a fan of rhubarb but it was delicious in this dessert and a really good end to the meal.

The service for the most part was polite and friendly. Our server was good but towards the end didn’t check up on us after giving us menus for dessert, and returned 10 mins after we had already ordered with another server. the other minor issue was the amount of times we got reminded that our table was only for one hour. we had been told multiple times when booking as well as on the day.
The restaurant is very stylish and has a great feel to. This place is always full which is a great sign. The food here is incredible, have yet to have a dish I haven't enjoyed. The menu changes daily and changes from lunch to dinner depending on the fresh and local produce they get delivers which is fantastic. The staff here are incredible, all very friendly and accomodating. Highly recommend

Had wonderful dinner at there. Everything was nice except i wasn’t quite full after the meal lol recommend side dishes when you order. :))))

This place is absolutely gorgeous, in an understated, elegant kind of way :)

They only do bookings for half of the restaurant, so by the time we called (a few days before), all the booing tables were gone, and we had to just rely on walk-ins. Thankfully we arrived early and secured a nice table!

Service was friendly and very attentive, the only complaint was that it was quite slow. We waited nearly an hour for our food to arrive. However, once they did arrive, the food was absolutely fabulous! My husband was the only person who found his main (lamb shanks) too lemony and salty, the rest of us all really enjoyed our food. My scampi pasta was so rich and flavorful. They were very generous with the amount of seafood! My friends said their tuna and cray fish were cooked perfectly. I did notice their serving sizes were a lot smaller than mine.

We also ordered a mozzarella focaccia for the table. It was cheesy and delicious, the perfect sharing dish!

All in all, a wonderful time was had at Amano. It makes my heart so happy to find new restaurants that do good Italian food :)

This place is does not disappoint. I’ve been here for a few dinners and the food has always been incredible. I know when you go to Amano you have to try their pasta but shoutout to their amazing sirloin steak...you’re my MVP. I’m also slightly addicted to stracciatella. On my recent dinner, when the waiter brought it I couldn’t stop myself from going ‘ahhhhh yeah’ and he couldn’t stop himself from laughing at me. No shame.
Need to try more desserts tho, only had the gelato and cannoli. Not the best I’ve had but good.
I would definitely come back! I think I need go come back in the daytime and try some brunch~

Amano has the best atmosphere in any restaurant in Auckland. We loved the food, though the cocktails and staff left a little to be desired. We would definitely return but would hope for a little more friendly attention from wait staff in future.
Elizabethjansenvanrensb96
Tried Amano for the first time last night- what an experience. Incredible ambience, excellent, excellent service (truly outstanding) and delicious food.
Thank you!
Haha Ha
Paste is good, but a died ant was found in the $9 cold beverage, which ruined my weekend morning...won't go there again, no matter how good the food is.
Dale Spencer
Amano has an exceptional reputation but was put to the test on a busy Wednesday morning.
It’s a stunning venue with attached patisserie which makes it a very desirable spot on Auckland’s waterfront.
They could have made a lot more $$ out of us if anyone had come back and asked for another round of drinks, but we were left after a fairly long wait for attention in the first place.
In saying that, their coffee is amazing and almond croissant flaky and delicious.
Golden
Been here twice for dinner. Attentive service. A nice open setting - both times I was seated at the high table that is right opposite the kitchen so it is fascinating observing the "behind the scenes" of how the food is made. Love that they print their menus daily. Food is fantastic, would always love to come back when my wallet is up for it.
Becstasy
3.5 stars - amazing service from out waitress but not so amazing food. we got a great seat and the place was packed (definitely book, even on a week night!) i loved the different types of mushrooms on the starter bruschetta even though a little cheesy for my liking. cocktails weren’t that good, the orange and feijoa tasted as though candied however the cucumber was great.
potatoes as a side were delicious, had with the sour cream meant to be with the lettuce- maybe offer sauces. unfortunately really didn’t like my chicken main, it was sour, my companion ate it and also his wagyu which seemed to be a great steak.
companion asked for a beer similar to heineken and got a pilsner which was good, not on the menu though. also ask for still water at the start because we automatically got sparkling.
Lesley Kung
Went there for dinner, ordered Crayfish tortellini for $34, was given 7 bits of rubbery crayfish in a bland watery “sauce”. Absolutely horrid and disappointing.
Perhaps shouldn’t go near anything there apart from the bread.

Coffee is Great, food excellent, and the staff lovely. Great place with wonderful ambience. Recommended for lunch or dinner or just a quick coffee stop.
Matadors
Amano is in a beautifully open space with vintage decor with varied seating (table, by bar) available. The dishes are of good portions, cleanly presented with flavours without being too over the top. The scampi pasta is a must!
Lola
The food here is impeccable, excellent food and excellent service but I must say the big bald chef is definitely the main attraction. What a hottie 10/10.

We came here for breakfast and OMG what an awesome experience!!! Such a cool building! Friendly staff😊 Beautiful coffee. They make everything on site and the kitchen is open plan so you can see them baking the bread and making the pasta etc. And OMG the food is so delicious!! Can’t wait to go back for an evening meal!! I had the bran loaf and hubby had the prosciutto potato hash, Yum!!!
Poricasol
It was not a pleasant experience. The food was really good. But unfortunately the service was substandard.

I got to the restaurant and was trying to look for my friend. All the front staff saw me but didn’t provide any service. One of them just literally stared at me and did nothing.

So I waited till my friend saw me then took me to my table. We ordered some bubbles, half a dozen of oysters and two pasta dishes to share. Got the bubbles straight away, then the oysters. After we finished the oysters and the plate got taken away, we waited for nearly 30 mins (with no refill of water or attention from the staff). 3 tables of customers that came after us got their main courses before we got ours. Also when the waiter delivered the plates and cutleries, there was not a single word said.

I understand it is a very popular and busy restaurant. I’d get the same good food with much better service at Baduzzi or Gusto at the Grand. Will not come again.
LI Jiao
One of the best place in the city. We ordered octopus and kitchen. Sooo yummy!! The chocolate desert is also tasty. The best is the service. Everyone is helpful and nice. Maude is so lovely and considerate!!! She is one of a kind girl. We will come again:)

Went here for anniversary and the food was amazing. I ordered a Angus steak in rare and it was amazing. I loved it and it stunned me with the flavors and was totally worth the money. i definitely will come back.

All four of us had a fantastic meal at Amano. Very friendly and attentive staff from the moment we walked in until we left.
Excellent value for money - we all will be coming back soon
Great service, great ambience and decor, great food. They have a great seasonal menu, I had the tomato, basil and ricotta handkerchief pasta and it did not disappoint.
I_like_pickles
Loved the food here. Everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The spaghetti was tasty and the pasta was nicely cooked through. The steak was just perfection. So tender and juicy it just melted on the tongue.
The ceviche had generous slices of fresh fish and the marinade was delicious.
I highly recommend this place and the service was exceptional.

Took one of my best friends to an unplanned birthday dinner at Amano and I am glad we did! Outstanding service with outstanding food. Staff were super friendly and cool (shout out to Jin and his recommendations). The chocolate budino and raspberry was my absolute favorite!!! Also loved the look and feel of this place! Top notch guys.
Been here for the New year dinner with my co-workers. A good vibe in the heart of the city. To be honest, I'm not a fan of European cuisine but this restaurant is just amazing. Staff are friendly & attentive. Food doesn't take too long and is really nicely decorared. I'm not the one ordering the food but all the the ones we ate that night were good value. I'm so in love with my desert as well. Highly recommended restaurant for a flashing dinner!
Hallie Low
Ambience and food is perfect, they have super friendly staffs too! Went there for my birthday celebration, the night was great! On a side note, the scampi spaghetti is the bomb! 😋

I had lunch here for the first time today and I am overall very impressed with the place. I love the interior and the food is delicious! I ordered a Charred Octopus in a main meal sized, a chocolate budino & raspberry desert which was very well presented and a watermelon & mint soda. The food takes approximately 45 minutes to arrive and because we ordered as a big group, I’m not sure if that affects the time taken, but the service was great, the staff were friendly and I know it’s totally un-relatable but the toilet is so flash haha.
Yafenxu123
I’m really enjoy their opening kitchen and vintage decoration which allow clients clearly seeIng how their food be completed. They fully use any ingredients they’ve got from farms. I ordered their Chicken Liver that I never taste in any other restaurant even Asian restaurant. But it turns greater result with well-balanced taste and flavor. I’m highly recommending that For someone who would like to give it try.
Mrs Puddingcake
Major Fan. Major.

Baby-cake free night so we legged it to somewhere we knew would feel classy, adult and serve amazing food that we could savour without taking turns to eat so someone can feed the baby-cake!

Amano nailed it for us. Service is top notch and food is just to die for.
We shared swordfish with passion fruit celery and radish, the crayfish tortellini and the chicken with peas and pancetta.

It was all delicious, but the tortellini is next level.
Like next NEXT level. Stuffed with crayfish and the sauce is scrummy.

We had dessert too because why not.
We had them explain the dessert menu offerings to us because I need to be very clear on what I’m getting to avoid dessert remorse, and we got the chocolate budini (FYI an insanely delicious mousse with a crumb and raspberries fresh and freeze dried) and the Riccota and plum which was a very moist ricotta cake with a tart plum jam and cream. Very not disappointed.

I love this place and sincerely and wholehearted recommend it to all and sundry.

A busy weekday evening where the generosity of additional seating at the bar and kitchen catered for those extra diners who enjoy this atmosphere.

The food is contemporary Italiano - recommendations from my plate include, “check out the kingfish crudo and the beautiful dairy and vegetable dishes”. Seems that there is variation on the menu according to the availability of freshly caught seafood .... wow !!

Best pasta in Auckland! Entree were great and cocktails were yummy. Loved the ambience and fit out. Service was also good. Will definitely come back.

Amano is officially my favourite restaurant! The interior design is beautiful and makes it a great place for romantic dates. Each time I've been there, the service has been amazing and the food just divine- I was never a fan of Italian food before because it was just carbs and cheese, but Amano has changed that. Sparkling water is poured freely, the dishes are fresh and vibrant, and the pasta handmade on site. Portions are also very generous- we usually get one pasta, a meat, and a side dish for two people and that is more than enough for two and I love that the menu changes seasonally which gives us an excuse to come back often!

A business lunch on a very hot day. Amano was 90% full and the air con was straining. Impeccable service loads of free sparkling water and we were ready! We opted for their famous Pasta. The Crayfish Tortellini was excellent as was the Lamb Manti. The best however was a non pasta dish- the Kingfish Crudo. A couple of very cold beers washed the palette. All ended with superb coffee. Reasonably priced at $130.00 for two. My Lamb Manti was lukewarm which was the only negative. Good lunch venue!

Deliciously Satisfying. Craving for more.

After a successful start to our January housing market. We decided to celebrate this evening.

Tasty steak, delicious monkfish and satisfying oysters. Matched with awesome strawberry and peach drinks!

The layout is beautiful and comfortable, I want to go back already!

Perfect for first dates, arrive early so it’s not too packed.

The wait time was a little long, and the staff forgot one of our orders and kept denying it. I wasn’t in an argumentative mood so will just minus half a star for wanting to argue with me over something so silly.

Service: 3/5
Food Quality: 5/5
Food Quantity: 5/5
Presentation: 5/5
Environment: 5/5
Price per person: $60-$80

Ambience is what we instantly fell in love with as soon as we entered the restaurant. Great service and the food totally lived up to our expectations. It’s is one of the best Italian restaurant in Auckland according to us no doubt about that.
Ruchita Choukar
This was on the list for a long time and we finally managed to get a reservation for Wednesday.
Amano is more accommodating than it seems in the pictures. Loved the ambience and the staff. Though most of the dishes were sold out, we managed to order some of their bests.
We had 2 handkerchief pasta, trevally escabeche and a kingfish crudo.
Loved everything , but dint realise the crudo would be cold.
Taste-9/10, Ambience- 10/10, Staff:10/10

Slightly expensive, but worth it, as its a fine dine.

Tip: You may want to book in advance as they are fully booked even on the weekdays.

Walked past last night wondering where we were going to get dinner at 10pm and got greeted by a big smile and a very friendly man. Through the whole time my partner and I were there it was a great time, service was absolutely exceptional and the food was cooked exactly how me and my partner like it. All in all will definitely be back and have a very high opinion on this place
Linda Lin
I must say Amano fully deserves its high rating,

Came for lunch and was definitely not disappointed. We were promptly and civilly greeted and seated as we arrived. The decor was simply splendid, stylish but with a kind of rustic charm that gives it a homely feel.

I ordered the Chittara and Rascal potatoes while my friend ordered some spaghetti. All dishes were cooked perfectly especially the pasta (firm but not too chewy) All dishes were extremely flavourful but not overspiced to the extent where it's overpowering. Portion sizes were more or less spot on, although at first seemingly small it is definitely enough to be filling.

We were seated at the chefs counter where you can watch the bustling kitchen staff put everything together and that was a remarkable and noteworthy aspect of this place.

Overall an amazing restaurant with equally amazing food and a lively atmosphere definitely would come back and recommend,
Liza Cosme
Came here for New Year's day lunch. What a great way to start my food adventure for 2018. Food was scrumptious and the service was excellent. It's a bit on a upscale price but it was all worth it knowing you get the best and fresh ingredients.

Set in one of Britomart's historic buildings it's a fantastic place to hangout and enjoy your meals. Loved the whole vibe of the restaurant.
Barney Rathnayaka
Really good mains, we had the slow cooked pork and and the handkerchief pasta. The entree was okay and the sorbet was decent. Extremely fast service and friendly staff . Overall great dining experience

Amazing place, one of my best meals in Auckland.

From entre to dessert, everything was great. My main was pasta filled with lobster, heavenly matched with fennel and an amazing creamy sauce. I accidentally dropped one of the raviolis and the staff promptly noticed and gave me another one!

The entree, a kind of bruschetta, was so yummy, and the desserts were perfect, with good combination of sweet and light ingredients.

I also love the architecture of the place, specially to sit by the counter and see the kitchen staff and its amazing skills.

Truly amazing!

Took my parents out for dinner, as my mother was requesting Italian food. We were seated at a high table among some lovely deco. Ordered oysters for starters; steak, handkerchief pasta, octopus for main.

Every food was just amazing. Pasta especially was gorgeous and we may return just to try other pasta here. I also thought the price of the main dishes were very reasonable given the quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Would recommend for a dinner out with friends or a date night!

Judging by its high rating, is Amano a restaurant every foodie in Auckland should visit? Let's find out.
It was 11:10. I had chicken liver with a poached egg & my wife had char-grilled pork shoulder, asparagus & smashed eggs. Chicken liver, combined with small pieces of apple, onion & egg, was a really delicious & refreshing dish. Pork shoulder was of good size & taste. We spotted some cakes on its side bakery & we chose a mini almond croissant & a fruit friand as well. Both were excellent. This is an eatery I should visit more often.
(Food - 5/5; Service - 4.5/5; Ambience - 4/5)

The decoration is superb. Nice staff. We had a Xmas meeting here and the vibe was so awesome. This place probably has the most impressive bathroom I’ve ever seen. The food was great. Flatwhite was really really good. I’d definitely come back.

This place has an amazing interior design- super old school yet also classy and simple at the same time. The staff are extremely help and friendly. The food itself is amazing. The dessert was creamy and delicious- not overly sweet.

Very happening brunch spot on a Sunday morning. We strolled by and decided to pop in for a try. The bakery pastry counter was filled with delicious looking goods! The venue was big and airy. Good coffee to go with my rich creamy spinach risotto. Yum!

Where to start, from the front of house, bar staff, waiting staff the whole experience is incredibly professional and world class and a real credit to the owners of the Hip group, amazing decor and food to die for.
Started with the chicken liver pate, superb texture and taste, accompanied by probably some of the best bread in Akl baked in house, followed by the octopus salad, something you dont see often enough on menus, melted in my mouth, sublime , accompanied by a very pleasant french rose, this is an establishment that you need to put on your must do list, faultless, words fail me.
Sadly on a recent visit some of the food was sadly lacking, my favorite dish the octopus obviously had not been marinated properly was virtually inedible, stupidly I did not send it back, one member of our group orderd the crayfish pasta, very dissapointing, dry and rather tasteless, once again should have been sent back, consistency is the hardest thing for any cook and I do understand the associated problems.

The food was awesome, and nice presentation, just the drink, not my type of flavor, too salty for me. I have recommended many friends to come here, nice place for dinner by reasonable price .

Came here for our anniversary dinner. Had a very nice and elegant vibe inside.

Ordered a chicken liver patê and ceviche for entrée. Normally I don't even try chicken liver but my partner said it was very nice and you can't even tell it's chicken liver - which I guess he was right. Wasn't revolting thank goodness. Low key enjoyed it haha. Loved the ceviche though!

Our mains weren't bad. Enjoyed it. The meat were cooked to our liking.

The only thing we didn't like so much was the dessert. Got the chocolate budino & rhubarb which was average and quite a small portion for $14

We came to Amano for the bakery and whilst we ate our desserts we had a glimpse at the restaurant. The decor is what drew us in first, it was rustic and classy and seemed like the perfect place for a dinner date. The menu was a bit pricey but after finishing 1/5 exams it was time to treat my self.
We came here around 5pm and were offered a table. If you come here around 6-7 then please book ahead because both us, and the group ahead of us were kindly told that our tables were booked at 6:30. 90 minutes was more than enough time for us to eat. We ordered Crayfish Tortellini and the Scampi Chitarra. Both these game highly recommended by the waitress. The dishes were priced at $34 and $32 respectively.
Both pasta dishes were a good portion, but we eat a lot so it was filling for us only because we didn’t come here on an empty stomach.
The Tortellini was stuffed full of crayfish. It wasn’t finely minced or maybe it was, but it was stuffed so full it felt like I was just biting into a chunk of sweet crayfish. Phenomenal. Just imagine eating a morsel of crayfish that has just been wrapped by a thin delicate sheet of pasta.
The Scampi Chitarra was even more amazing. The Scampi was sweet and cooked to perfection. The baby tomatoes added the perfect tartness to cut through the sweet Scampi. The hint of spicy from the chilli was also the perfect accompaniment. One small bite could only be described as fireworks on my tongue.

I never get this descriptive with my reviews, but Amano you have impressed me and I will be back.

p.s free unlimited sparkling water and the waitress was absolutely lovely and had a very nice accent

There were 3 of us who made an impromptu visit to Amano, after an exhausting meeting, feeling thirsty & quite famished. Two of us have visited Amano previously, so were eager to try something new from the menu, we had a very enjoyable lunch. Food, drinks, ambiance & service were fantastic. THANK YOU!

The atmosphere and food here is simply incredible. Best coffee in Auckland and the interior is beautiful. We had pasta for mains I had the crayfish tortellini and my partner had the scampi pasta. Both were delicious (his was better though.. so I stole his meal). Great service and again the best coffee❤️ I’m in love x

Amano has well and truly positioned itself among Auckland's best restaurants and for good reason. It continues to perform, and the service is exceptional. Their fresh and interesting menu makes it a culinary experience and I'm excited to see what they come up with next.

Came here on a Monday afternoon at a awkward 4pm as a celebratory meal after our assignment.

The interior is absolutely breathtaking; the rustic and urbane wooden furniture that reeks sleek and sophistication takes you to another world.

We were directed to Eddie who helped us order Wagyu Carpaccio, Chargrilled Lamb, Tagiatielle, vegetables and pasta (that I forgot the name of). Their menu is newly printed everyday and it has the date of it at the top; implying that they change it everyday which I find really impressive and unique!

We didn’t have to wait long before our meals arrived all at once, hot and fresh from the kitchen. The Tagiatielle was still piping hot, juicy and the mince sauce was rich and generous. It was a big portion and I scraped the bowl clean.
The Lamb was also a winner, beautifully presented and crisp on the outside and the medium rare meat was tender and succulent. This was accompanied in a bed of sour and refreshing sauce with cucumber.

Didn’t get to try the wagyu and pasta but they looked amazing. Our sparkling water was topped up very regularly. Service was excellent and efficient. I would highly recommend a date night here.

Food: 10/10
Price: 9/10
Ambience: 10/10
Service: 10/10

The chicken liver was a breath of fresh air. Such a beautiful blend of flavours and texture. A must try for food lovers!! Bucatini pasta was lovely as well - big portion that I couldn't finish it. They have a wide range of pastries that were very tempting too. Their crossiant is to die for. Yum! Only downside was that the coffee was a bit average.. Hope they can improve on coffee next time! Highly recommend this place!!

My overall rating: Food of happiness
My partners rating: perfect, found a real Italian restaurant now!

Service: great! The night was busy, yet all ladies and gents comes around with a smile and make sure we're happy, drinks are topped up and managed to answer some of our questions and chat too!

Decor: more natural approach used, vibe and ambient is warm and simple. I love it!

Food: 1000/100. Exactly what I said the to lady.
My first bite of the Bucatini with Clam was a surprise, delicious without a doubt!

Tagliatelle Bolognese is my highlight, it's a dish of warmth. This is a home dish, common but Amano mastered it. It's a dish which make me slow down and taste! (You know when you found a dish you really like and you just gobble, not this one! I slowed down and enjoyed!)

Charred Octopus, cooked just right, sweet charred flavour remains even when a strong celery flavour might've cover it. Well-balanced.

Desert:
Lemon prosseco House churned Gelato was a palate refresher.
Trifle: coffee lover, please order and indulge!

Nicest staff i've ever met.
I come here for coffee and lunch all the time, Love the decoration.
Staff are always friendly and helpful.
Can't find a single flaw of this place.
Looking forward to go again with my friends

Came here for my birthday dinner! The service was excellent and our waiter was very friendly and good to talk to. I had the gnocchi which was very delicious - although there were too many mushrooms compared to the actual gnocchi :/ other people on my table had the seafood pasta and fish - all of which was thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommend this place!
Lily Kang
Loved it! Service was great and the charred octopus was so tender!! My friend had the gnocchi and they were like little pillows in your mouth! Our waitress Jade was amazing, she explained the process of how our food gets delivered from farm to table and offered a great selection of food!

Amano is beautiful place to go to with friends or professional meeting . It’s always been a great experience. Staff extremely friendly & calm .love going there .

I couldn't wait to go to Amano, I am an Italian who also loves to make her own pasta. Setting was romantic and the vibe was great.

Started with the Stracciatella, this was thin and tasty.
Mains, my husband ordered the chicken ravioli, it was good and tasty. I ordered the Scampi pasta, it was not great. It was dry and bland, the pasta was thick and starchy.
I actually left feeling so disappointed and let down.

We had a lingering lunch during the week. Everyone really enjoyed both the food and wine selections. Between us we tried the char grilled chicken, the steak and the flounder. I expected it would be good, but it was better! Will be going again and take my partner for dinner. Service was good.

The evening started with a bang, our table ordered the Ricotta Stuffed Courgette Blooms - Beautiful start to the evening and the Stracciatella bread which was also very tasty and cooked very well. Then came the cocktails - I was the only one of our table that enjoyed their cocktail, 2 of them weren't even finished. Our mains quickly followed and thats where the evening flatlines... The Mushroom Gnocchi - Where do I start, bland and a little bit sickening after a while, it was just missing some oomph. Another meal at our table was the Chicken which was dry and tough unfortunately. We did express our disappointment to our waitress about the drinks and also our mains, but they weren't fazed and said well im sorry to hear that, maybe we weren't upper class looking enough for them to care? Either way a disappointing evening spent at Amano which sucks as I was really looking forward to our evening here.

Amano is a beautiful place to hang out and have a few drinks. The ambiance is quite clever, use of aged mirrors and the decor makes you feel like you're in a pretty aquarium. The food was good, i liked the crayfish tortellini, and flank steak with duck egg. The male bartender who sports a ponytail was really lovely and attentive, i hope their front of house staff passed on the compliment we gave. The lady in the bakery was a bit standoffish, but overall it was a good dining experience.

Isn't this place just AWESOME!? I had their smoked warehou pate with sourdough and it was amazing followed by custard with apple and oats. Loved it. Loved every bit of the food. The Chardonnay was awesome. Perfect ambience, friendly staff. Definitely recommended. Will be there again soon 😊😊

I was part of a large group lunch today at Amano and had been looking forward to it as i had heard it was great. Sadly I have to agree with some of the less than positive reviews on this site. Service was patchy but the food was worse. I had the kahawai with anchovy crust. its was poorly seasoned, over cooked and drowned in olive oil which largely just created a gluggy mess. and I got a lemon. On my left my friend ordered the crayfish which was also overcooked and tasteless... with a lemon. We wondered whether the chef was drunk. On my right my friend had the lamb which was gamy and undercooked. It was so rare that Ram was the over arching flavour. She couldnt eat it and at the check out we asked the waiter whether it was male or female lamb. She replied sarcastically ' all i know is it had a great life'. I dont remember all the details of all the meals of our group but the general feeling was 'meh' and we wil be unlikely to return. oh and on our exit we walked through the bakery as my friend was still hungry. We pointed out to the salewoman that there was a large blowfly in one of the food cabinets. We pointed to exactly where it was landed on a ham and cheese croissant and she thanked us and shooed away the fly.. leaving the croissant in place for the next customer! Hunger was no longer a problem! Whats going on here?

the worst service. Waiters and waitresses just walked around and did nothing. I sat there for 5mins and no one gave me the menu. Other customers even needed to stand up and get menus by themselves. You have to ask for everything. What's the point for hiring that much waiters and waitresses.?

This place is beautiful to start with but that's honestly all the compliments I have for it. We walk in for lunch and it takes a waiter 5 minutes to notice us and lead us to a table even though many waiters see us but just walk past. We were not provided with a drink menu either. Fine, all fine because apparently the food is amazing. We order the straciatella, the crayfish tortellini and chitarra. The straciatella i did like because cheese and bread is a great combo, that I would give 4/5. Then we had to wait about 30 minutes for our pasta to come, all okay tho seeing as it was busy and the pasta is supposed to be fresh right. So our pasta comes, looks amazing, and then we try it. It is cold. Cold and doughey and flavourless. I love pasta and never have I been so disappointed. The inside of the tortellini tasted as if it was frozen or put in the fridge over night. They used breadcrumbs on both of the dishes so they tasted almost identical. Honestly the scampi was quite nice, I did not hate everything. But there is no way I can justify 66$ on two plates of cold bland pasta that honestly did not taste fresh. Perhaps my pasta pallet was not refined enough to taste the components I don't know. However I did like the service once we were seated, the waiters were lovely. I will come again because I know amano can do better but for now, 1.5 it is.

This place was still packed at 9:00, so it’s better to make a reservation instead of just walk in. My girlfriend and I ordered Paccheri, Spaghetti, Kingfish and Cauliflower. Kingfish was fresh, Paccheri and Spaghetti were a bit chewy but tasted delicious with seafood. For drinks, I ordered Espresso cocktail and my girlfriend had persimmon smoothie, and both of them were amazing. Portions are slightly small so two pasta/meat and two vege/seafood sides are recommended for two ppl. FYI menus might change everyday. ($120 for 2)

Amano is popular for a reason. The whole ambience of the place screams fancy and romantic. Service is always great every time I visit. They have an awesome bar and an open kitchen so you can see all the magic.
As for food, I can order anything from their menu and not only do they taste delicious but also look picture-perfect. My favourites are any tomato-based pasta and summer salad, including the strawberry salad and the charred octopus (seasonal). Highly recommended! Also check out their bakery, lots of yummy treat for takeaway.

Great atmosphere, layout and service

Always have the crayfish tortello and scampi chitarra; both amazingly rich and slightly tangy.
Portions are probably on the smallish side so would recommend a side if for two people.

~$50/person

4.5 Yums

A great venue for lunch - plenty of hustle and bustle but impeccable service. The kingfish crodo was a highlight as was the chilli kahawhai. We ordered a three dishes to share and one main dish each for 6 of us.
Zainab
The crayfish tortellini lived up to my expectations and is definitely worth trying - although I did find the pasta portions to be small for the price.

There was quite a bit of a wait to get a table but it was definitely well worth the wait. Customer service was great, food was amazing and the restaurant had a great vibe

Enjoyed the set up / ambiance of this place it was a really nice choice for a late night dinner. The service was on point with attentive staff. The food was fresh and tasty. We tried the gnocchi which was delish but the mushroom to gnocchi ratio was a bit skewed, the slow roasted pork was huge but very well cooked and the stracciatella was yum pictured below. Sadly Amano didn't live up to the hype. But all in all was a good experience.

Had lunch with a friend here Monday as we were craving pasta. She had the ricotta and yolk raviolo, which was very pretty to look at; she was happy to eat it too. I tried the crayfish tortellini, which looked a little puny on the plate initially. However, it packs a lot into each bite, and each bite was delicious. The preserved lemon was a nice touch, its flavour just subtle enough. So full afterwards!

Still, I found room for dessert: the yoghurt, white chocolate and tamarillo. Not the keenest on yoghurt unless it's completely plain, but I knew a place like this would change my mind! It was made divine with white chocolate. Would have this every time. :)

Service is very friendly - just casual enough and never intrusive.

Came here with a friend today. It was very busy even though we came on a Thursday and it was raining outside. Servers were really nice and attentive and asked us multiple times if we needed anything.

We ordered the grilled Lamb shanks and Scampi Pacherri. Lamb shacks had great flavours although portion wasn't very big, but the scampi pasta was very average. The pasta was chewy, almost a bit too hard, and the sauce was very salty but not much other interesting flavours. My friend said it was her second time ordering the same dish but it was very different this time, and not as good.

We also ordered a carrot and ginger juice and a macadamia hot chocolate. I really enjoyed the hot chocolate, but my friend's juice tasted a bit weird and was very watered down, so was quite disappointed by that.

Overall, the place has great ambience and service but the food and drinks are hit or miss.

Had seen this place during the day and noticed it had a steady flow of customers so thought to give it a try for dinner.
My partner and I were greeted on arrival and got a bar table looking over the kitchen without a booking.
Inside was a little rustic and had a good feel about it.
The waiter was very helpful with our wine selections and got our drinks to us quickly.
For entree we shared the Burrata and this was delicious and would highly recommend it.
For mains we both went with Pasta. I had the Spahetti. It was a good portion and had plenty of flavour.
My partner had the Crayfish tortellini. And out of the two this was defiantly my preferred. She also enjoyed it but said the pasta could habe been more delicate.
For dessert we shared the Espresso and mascarpone trifle. This was nice and a good portion but had a lot of crumble on top that we ended up leaving.
All round was pleased with the food, service and experience and would like to go back and try some more of the menu.

Amano is simply stunning and perfect for every occasion. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the staff are attentive and friendly.

I have been here a couple of times for lunch and another time for dinner and I haven't found a single thing to fault yet!

In terms of must try dishes:
The Venison Carpaccio is a perfect way to start a meal for two, especially if you plan on pigging out on carbs for your main.
The crayfish tortellini is sensational and tends to be the crowd favourite however if you are able to tear yourself away from the herd, try the truffle pappardelle, it is to die for!

The icing on the cake is Amano bakery, where you can grab a delicious sweet treat to have later on when you're not about to enter a food coma.
When I go to what I call "Hyped-Up" restaurants, I try to go with lower than high expectations. It's Auckland on a wet and cold Friday lunch time - the place was still packed! As with other reviewers, I definitely recommend booking (no matter what time of day). With a packed house you would expect to be squished, but the place is huge you're not knocking elbows with the people on the next table. I loved the decor, high wooden ceilings with hanging dried flowers gave a feeling of taking you somewhere else (Italy maybe?) Being greeted with a smile is always a nice start too.
A few details have bought my score down. I ordered the Saffron Paccheri. I would have completely enjoyed it, the pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked as was the scampi. Good portion size, a little oversized maybe (which I don't often say), lucky it was just lunch so I didn't order an entree, I had planned on dessert. My letdown was the breadcrumbs (?) on top, they were so crunchy I had a slight fear of broken teeth so I had to brush them off. BUT, I finished the dish completely - no room for dessert thought.
My friend ordered the slow roasted pork after eyeing it on another diner's table. Watching her slide her knife through the huge piece of meat was like watching a hot knife go through soft butter. Her eyes rolled with delight as she took her first mouthful. My other two friends ordered the Crayfish Tortellini. They were both happy with their meals, apparently the flavour of the cray really came through which can so often get lost in stuffed pasta. However, the plating led us to make comparisons - I had a full plate and was absolutely stuffed when we left, their pasta literally covered half a plate and they said they could have done with more. Two conclusions: 1) The chef had taken one dish and divided it in two; 2) This is a typical plate that, if you were to order two courses you wouldn't be left wanting more. I go for the latter. Maybe they should spread the pasta around the plate a bit more, or a smaller plate?
We also decided to share some vegetables to go with our meal, so we ordered Red Rascal Potatoes and Roasted Baby Carrots. Unfortunately, these took a long time to get to the table and we had to remind them that we had ordered them. The downside was that all of us would have liked to eat the veges alongside our meals, so those of us who had the smaller sized meals had to stop eating for a while, and the remaining two had to slow down - both resulting in cooling of the food. That said, as soon as we mentioned it to the Maitre D' it was there in a second. The potatoes were Beautiful (notice the capital B?) and I can't begin to describe the carrots - the hazelnuts were so tasty with the right amount of crunch, and I love the scoop of real honey on top!
The staff were friendly, with such a busy restaurant you could excuse them just a little bit for being stressed out but you didn't see that. They smiled and were very nice. The Maitre D' was highly professional, when we were beginning to question where our vegetables were, it was like he knew we had a problem before we called for attention because we saw him approaching us from halfway across the room.
Ambience - tick! Service - tick! Food - half a tick. Would I come back again? Yeah of course.

Dined here Saturday night for a bday celebration (ps u need to book at least 3 weeks in advance!) first impression ambiance was lovely and very spacious compare to other similar restaurants. Staff were very attentive and catered to our needs right away, really good service. Food wise, was looking forward to trying their pasta dishes however I felt a bit let down due to portion size and flavours. We ordered 3 pasta dishes one of them was gnocchi and it was very salty and the portion is tiny (entree size). However their meat dishes was well worth it, we ordered lamb, pork and Angus all cooked very well and flavours were subtle but tasty and the portion size was good (see photos.) also their vegetable side dishes (potatoes and pumpkin) were also yum (simple but done well). For 7 adults with 2 bottles of wine with mains, pasta and sides we paid $420 which is very good compare to other similar places! Would love to come back here again due to ambiance and to try their other meat dishes, probably won't order any pasta though.

Would have been an amazing lunch given the great taste and amazing pastry. Thoroughly enjoyed the hand made Chitarra and the delicious scampi with generous portion.

However, both me and my husband got upset stomach after sharing the dishes. Wasn't as bad as food poisoning so we didn't go back lodge the complaint. But I probably won't go back again.

Everything incredible from food to drinks to decor but the staff around was a bit of let down (no greetings or smiles ,no one explained the menu and other trivial details).

I thoroughly enjoyed my first time at Amano last night. In addition to friendly service and an upmarket vibe, they do an excellent job of beautifully balancing acidity, texture, and the natural flavours of their ingredients in every dish. I really got the sense that Amano's chefs apply intelligent culinary restraint to make everything just right.

As a starter, our kingfish cerviche set the tone well for the evening. We all enjoyed how fresh this raw fish was and while there was a good amount of acidity, it still felt light and refreshing.

My crayfish tortellini main consisted of fresh pasta parcels stuffed with minced crayfish meat – which I loved. There was a variety of textures (dry/chewy/crunchy/oily all at the same time) but nothing felt out of place or over the top.

It was quite similar to my sister-in-law’s saffron paccheri with scampi – which was my favourite dish of the night. The textures worked, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the seafood tasted fresh; it was all on point and you could appreciate the quality of the produce.

My brother chose seafood too and got the kahawai dish, which was refined and not overpowering. Admittedly, I did feel it verged on being a tad bland so I guess that’s what the lemon is for.

Amano's dessert menu sounded too good to pass up, so we shared the pine nut torte. This was simply amazing. I loved the buttery crust, which was slightly crumbly but still easy to eat, and special mention goes to the delectable cream cheese on the side that complements this cake so elegantly. Given that Amano runs a bakery during the day, it's not surprising that their dessert game is strong and I already have my heart set on the espresso and mascarpone trifle for next time.

For drinks, I mostly enjoyed my macadamia smoothie. It was less enjoyable towards the end as it got a bit watery – but at least it didn’t make me feel bloated at the end of my meal.

I would happily recommend Amano to those who appreciate refined, subtle European flavours that highlight fresh produce. I found this restaurant reasonably priced given our entire experience, and my only warning is that you should book in advance because it can get pretty packed at night.

Keep up the good work, Amano!

The vibe is good very good services. Offered a convenient and quiet area to sit because of the baby. Food was delicious except there were some egg shell in the eggs and the hot water we ordered never came.

Love Amano!
From its baked goods to the actual sit down menu food, everything here is great!

For dinner we tried the Carpaccio, sirloin, and gnocchi and it was all delicious, specially the carpaccio. Also had the feijoa and lime mojito which was very enjoyable!
Lastly their passion fruit and chocolate cake is one lf my favorite desserts around 😊.

The ambience is lively but also a sense of calm at the same time. A very chic place with unusual but beautiful flower arrangements hanging from the ceiling. Service is great when you have it but depending on where you're seating, it can be difficult to get their attention. I often find they are quite heavy handed on the salt so have to ask specifically for no/less salt as there is salt on the table you can season to your liking.
AppetiteBliss
Loved everything! From ambience to service and definitely the food! From handmade pasta, to seafood selection and side options... Nothing to fault. The awesome thing is their menu changes, so you always have something new to try! Will definitely be back many more times!

The place was still busy when we arrive about 8:30 so definitely pay to book in advance. The restaurant was beautiful with a good balance of old and new. The food were served very quickly- a bit too fast that we didn't have a chance to have more bread. All food was delicious with fresh ingredients. I particularly love the fish fillet. The slow roasted port was nice but more like a German hock rather than what you expect from an Italian restaurant. Desserts were a bit disappointing- it was a tart that obviously from their bakery not a well executed after dinner dessert.

The service was efficient but could be more attentive and personalised. The staff were on the cold side. The background music was also a bit too loud for me.
Lisa Reynolds
A dinner so good that no photos of the food was taken (minus one). As a table of four we ordered plates to share, the menu changes everyday depending on availability of meats, fish and vegetables. We ordered stracchino and buratta, handkerchief pasta, venison carpaccio, chargrilled chicken and wagu rump. We could have easily ordered more but were saving room for dessert. The stracchino I could have eaten on its own for dinner, cheese inside thin olive oil bread, yum! The service was good for a busy Friday night.

Amazing food
Service average
Price on high side but justifies.
Great decor
Finally made to this place and i absolutely loved it we tried
Lamb
Pasta
oysters
food was amazing specially pasta was ammazing as seems to be there speciality.
just service is little less good as compared to the establishment.

Amazing food-worth the wait!
They only take 50% reservations so simply go early and put your name on the list.

They have shared table seating mostly with a few individual tables. Menu is expansive and is broken down into dairy, pasta, seafood and meat. Most are sharing type plates and good to go with a group to try more.

Stand out dishes where the Beef cheek pasta, the mushroom gnocchi is insanely good and the chicken and lamb dishes! Cocktails were also pretty good here too...

I wanted to try almost everything on the menu and can't wait to go back!

Came here on a Friday night, place was packed and you definitely, 110% need to book a table in this place in advance. We were told there was about an hour wait for a table so we decided to wait at the bar (which was stunning) and have a few drinks. Oh we had those few drinks, but the wait was nearing to 1 1/2 - 2 hours. The bar was quite packed and people were starting to eat there as well. Everyone at the table definitely agreed the food was worth the wait after we polished off our entrees. We ordered the Handkerchief Pasta, Kingfish Crudo and Smoked Trevally Pate. Wow! All three were so amazing! Both fish plates were so fresh and full of flavour. The Handkerchief Pasta also converted my partner to the good side of loving pasta! Mains came out about 20mins later; Chargrilled Chicken, Lamb, Chitarra and Pork w/ a side of Chargrilled Cauliflower and Potatoes. The Lamb was so tender and full of flavour, with a good spice kick to it. The pork Crackle was a little over done but didn't take away from the tenderness of that pork. Overall, food was well above average and would rank up there in the best restaurants I've been to. Would love to definitely come back and try their bakery food. Service was average due to the wait, but our waitress we had once seated was very polite and attentive. Definitely a must try place!

Amano take reservations for half the restaurant each night but after attempts on several days we decided to turn up and wait for a table. The restaurant was busy and bustling but perhaps due to the large size of the dining room we didn't seem to be close to other tables of diners. With a group of 5 we were able to sample much if the menu. The entree cheese dishes are mostly mozzarella based, we got the burrata which was mozzarella with sultanas and charred cauliflower. I really enjoyed this, but there were some on our table that felt it lacked flavour. The highlight for me was the pasta. We had the delicious crayfish tortelloni and the scampi with spaghetti, the sauces were happily mopped up with Amano's fresh baked bread. The meat courses were tasty enough without being remarkable and we had garlic prawns which were tasty but small. We shared 3 desserts which brought the night to a close. The lemon tart was actually sitting on a biscuit, the chocolate pannacotta was not very sweet and super rich which I liked, and a yoghurt gelato and a Italian meringue pudding. All told Amano provided a very enjoyable experience
The Food Reviewers.
We have eaten here for breakfast, lunch & dinner.
From the breakfast menu we have tried the frittata, prosciutto, pork shoulder & bran loaf. They all were very good but the standout was the pork shoulder. Each individual item on the plate was cooked exceptionally well but together they were delicious.
The lunch and dinner menu is the same. From the dairy section we have tried the stracchino. It was not a bad dish, it was just not to our liking but I'm sure fig lovers would like it very much.
From the pasta section we've tried handkerchief, crayfish tortello, chitarra & spaghetti. These were hard to share, simply because they were all so good. The pasta is made fresh and It is silky & beautiful. Their use of oils, herbs and chilli is truly outstanding. Nearly every dish has one of their signature type flavours on the plate and we find ourselves making sure we get every drop of it off the plate before we finish.
From seafood we have tried kingfish crudo, octopus and sardines. We were unprepared for the sardines having a million tiny bones in them. We seriously dissected them and made a real hash of it. We later youtubed the correct technique to remove a lot of the bones and felt quite dumb. Others told us you eat some of the bones but we didn't find them brittle or soft enough for chewing. The sardine flesh was nice but we are 100% not fans of the tiny bones. The crudo was good, fresh, nice flavours on the plate to mix with the fish. The octopus was cooked well with lovely flavours but quite big pieces, wouldn't mind it they were thinner and smaller pieces.
From the meat section we tried carpaccio. simply one of the best we have ever tried in NZ. The meat, the salsa etc...yum, perfect combinations.
From the dessert section we have tried the bon bons, trifle & torta della nonna. All 3 were really good but the standouts are the bon bons & the trifle. I imagine it's what they'd taste like in Italy.
Their coffee, juices and cocktails are fantastic. 'Ak' always has coffee on arrival and just before we leave. Juices are fresh, and those cocktails....dreams are made in them.
The atmosphere/building is rustic and lovely. Seating is comfortable and the seating areas where you can watch the chefs work from is neat.
The staff are so well trained with the normal quality you can expect from the hip group. Nothing is too much trouble. The are accommodating, polite and happy to assist.
Amano is a firm favourite of ours and very deserving of the praise it gets.

Finally a Place that does tasty food and not more plate than food.

Ordered Brussell Sprouts Dish and Roast Potatoe dish. Such a large portion and a reasonable price.

I usually end up feeling still hungry after other places in Britomart that have the reputation of having hefty prices for food portions for a baby.

Lovely Decor , Large Portions and yummy food.

Sat by the kitchen and was very impressed.

can't fault the food, had the gnocchi and flounder and carpaccio, both spectacular, perfect and absolutely faultless. not just hype but delivers the goods. Reasonably priced for hand made pasta and the quality, atmosphere is great. Overall, a 5*

If you are anything like me and love fresh pasta and seafood cooked to perfection then you will love Amano.
I have noticed the pasta a few times while buying pastries from the bakery and knew I will have to dine here as soon as I could.
We ordered the beef carpaccio, I ordered the mushroom gnocchi and he ordered the flounder.
Well, both were cooked perfectly. I am sad to say that their gnocchi is much fluffier and lighter than when I make it (only means I have to try harder). It was delightful, melt-in-your-mouth soft and deserves its own parade.
The beef carpaccio was a perfect dish with elements that really work well together and leaves you wanting more. His flounder was crispy on the outside and incredibly moist (oh yes, everyone loves that word!) on the inside. I have yet to have flounder cooked better that that in NZ.
Thanks for a delicious dinner!

I absolutely love the fit out here! The place was bustling and there were just two of us so we sat at the bar. We had a perfect view of the pasta being made. I went for the asparagus pasta and it was awesome! My friend had the ricotta and strawberry salad which was tasty and beautiful!

I am on the fence about Amano - well, both legs over but my derriere is lingering on the edge.

Edibles:

The fish crudo was very tasty, I would pop in for a plate of that and a wine any day.

The steak was a steak, well cooked, didn't leave us in gastronomical pain, because we all know being served a bad steak these days is like being subjected to the 1st unforgivable curse ⚡

The gnocchi sadly fell apart on first bite. We often attach the term billowy to gnocchi, this certainly wasn't the case. The oblong morsels somehow disintegrated in my mouth every time I attempted any act of biting. I'm no expert at (modern?) Italian, and perhaps also had a pre conceived idea of traditional gnocchi's texture, but this dish was a very different texturised experience. The mushroom sauce made up for it, however. I would love to return to try the other pasta dishes on the menu.

Chocolate panna cotta: sweet-as rating 5 star. Everyone at our table agreed that this dish hit the spot so much it puts Amano on the desserts-destination map

The torta della nonna: anything with pinenuts deserves a thumbs up 👍

The gelato bon-bon: like every other chocolate encased ice cream experience, the outer shell is a b**ch to crack into. Squirted every where. Note to self: not a sharing dessert. Just pop the whole thing in your mouth

Liquids: nice cocktails. Good reds selection. Sorry 🙏 I skipped whites and aromatics

Service: we came here on the night before Easter Friday so practically a Friday night. The place was heaving. Noted from previous reviews, we understood each waitstaff looked after a big section, not just a couple of tables. This might explain why the level of care wasn't quite there. Small tip: when asked if you want your to-share orders to come as they're ready or split into half and half, take the former. We opted for the latter, let's just say we took a noticeably long break between the two.

Overall: beautiful space. Interesting modern Italian fanfare. Hit and miss with some dishes and service.
Popped in here today for the first time to catchup with a friend for coffee. I was impressed!
It's light, roomy and very inviting. You almost forget you're in downtown Auckland. The staff our friendly and we were seated right away and orders taken soon after. A nice touch is the complimentary sparkling water.
We just had a hot chocolate(me) and flat white(friend) which promptly arrived. The hot chocolate was delicious with a lil meringue on the side, and my friend loves the coffee here hence the reason I ended goin here in the first place.
Will have to return to try their food 😊

If I could name one of my favourite restaurants this would be it! One of the waiters there (Jono) is particularly amazing- he always gives me a big hug when I walk in and makes me feel welcome! I would recommend their amazing homemade pasta and their tomato salad! A unique feature about this restaurant is that they change their menu every day which is great because it gives you a lot of variety!
Two Dark Coffees
Britomart is becoming the epicentre of Auckland's gastronomic venture and Tyler Street one of it's main players.

One of it's latest additions flies under the name Amano. Initially just a bakery, Amano is said to have extended itself to a fully fledged eatery. Or has it just become a glorified bakery?

Housed in a 110 year old building the site itself is a seamless fusion of old and new. Exposed walls add unique texture to the room and the bold decor brings the modern aspect to Amano.

The new kitchen runs in conjunction with the bakery so you can nibble on freshly baked bread before you move on to the seasonal seafood dishes they also have on offer.

According to the Amano team, they also offer the ‘freshest pasta experience in the country’. I'm yet to give this a go but next time this won't be missed.

Amano also has an impressive cocktail and drinks list. One that stood out for me was their vanilla espresso martini - I had a couple.

The service is attentive and waiters have their own sections with works extremely well with the cafes layout. Their service system has been well thought out and creates a relaxed restaurant environment.

So no, Amano isn't a glorified bakery. Although it's not a fine dining restaurant ether - it sits comfortably somewhere in-between.

I visited Amano on the weekend with a group of friends (about 10 or so). They were very accommodating and the service was wonderful. This is a beautiful restaurant with lovely decor and ambience. I had the scampi spaghetti which was incredible, highly recommended. The only downfall was it seemed to just be splat down on the plate, so presentation could be improved. I definitely recommend Amano for a delicious meal or a few drinks. I'm excited to try the bakery next door!

Another fantastic offering from The Hip Group - each restaurant or cafe a little different which gives good variety.
It's a busy place so bookings are essential & if you arrive early the bar is a great place to wait & have a drink.
There is seating overlooking the kitchen which would be a great option for one or two people.
We were a larger group so ended up trying most of the menu - didn't manage photos of everything as we were too busy talking. The range of small plates are great as a sharing entree. We had 4 between 8 & each had our own main but you could share these too potentially. We also had 3 sides.
Fave entrees were the Provolone & the Buratta, but the Trevally pate & kingfish were also nice. The waitress knew the menu well so made good suggestions.
For mains most of us chose the Crayfish pasta which was delicious. Others had the chargrilled chicken, scampi pasta & lamb meatball tagliatelle. The Brussel sprouts, corn & witlof were a perfect match.
A few of us had dessert - all were good, but the chocolate & Passionfruit tart was a standout
Wine list has lots of unique local & international options.
Service was fantastic

Amazing food at Amano with a rustic, European feel to it and an Italian inspired menu.

Super busy, I definately recommend booking a table in advance. We managed to get a table but only had an hour maximum, however luckily we were able to finish our bottle of wine at the central bar table.

I ordered the courgette casonsei pasta, which is a type of stuffed pasta like ravioli. It came with a delicious brown butter sauce, fresh herbs and Parmesan. The courgette was grilled perfectly and the hand cut pasta was al dente. I'm a pasta fanatic, and I loved this dish, not too creamy and rich it was perfect. Next time I'll try the crayfish or scampi pasta.

My friends ordered the chicken and lamb dish. I tried my friends lamb and it was cooked perfectly so soft! Service was also really good, however each table should get a plate of house bread (I think) and we didn't get one, but we just asked and they gave us some. For desert we ordered the limoncello tart, oh my god.. the BEST lemon tart I've ever had. It had a biscuit like base, piped with cream, lemon curd and a lemony mousse, it was so delicious.

I'll definately be back to make my way through the menu!

Made it to Metro's Top 50 restaurant. And really impressed by the overall presentation. From the interiors, food service and the menu was absolutely divine. Couldn't fault it. Located at Britomart with access to Quay and Tyler St. Price range for a meal from $18 onwards. Ordered a fish pate which I find bit salty, thanks to the fresh tomatoes to balance the flavor....would come back and highly recommended!!!

I went here on Friday night, I was trying to get reservation in the morning but it's fully booked and tried to walked in, we wait for around 30minutes. It's a big restaurant and packed with people all the time. I love how they decorate the place, it's just classy and beautifull xx.
Food: We ordered crayfish tortello, chiatarra, lamb with yoghurt sauce, and beef. I really love the lamb, even better than their beef. There's no that lamb smell at all and so tender, it goes well with the sauce, just perfect. Pasta was nice but not my favorite.

My work team and I visited Amano for breakfast - it's located in the hip and happening Britomart Precinct, and like all other restaurants in the area, we knew that the conversion of the space within the building to a restaurant would be spectacularly done - and we were not disappointed!

I had the sweetcorn, poached eggs, chilli & salted ricotta - while it tasted wonderful, and was just the right size - it's a dish with corn and egg. For $20, it's an expensive breakfast, and for $5 more, you could effectively go to any of the hotels in Auckland and have yourself a buffet breakfast.

So while that is a stark comparison (bulk food vs. personal dish), I still think the pricing here is beyond what is reasonable. Alas, it keeps the riff raff out, and ensure that their clientele is limited to media, banking and legal executives (apart from my team and I...)

And what we first thought was great skill on behalf of the staff quickly turned into a display of their ineptitude - my colleague ordered a soy flat white, and was brought the wrong drink TWICE. This is because the staff don't write down your order - they try and memorise it. Simple - if you can't do that, don't do it!

While I may give them a go for dinner sometime, won't be rushing back for breakfast.
Ronald Blunt
Outstanding service and ambience. Food was good, fresh and flavoursome. I had the egg noodles with scampi, tasty flavours but small portion.

Would go back as the place had such a good vibe.
Lilyroselondon
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is not in a hurry to go anywhere because the other day my friend and I really needed to go somewhere and we had 20 minutes so we stopped at Amano. We ended up having to ask for the food as a takeaway because the service was poor and was taking too long when we had already told them how much time we had. At least the food was delicious.
Philip Doyle
I went to Amano with some friends for dinner and had high expectations that were let down slightly. The service was average with wait staff not being very friendly and attentive, the setting was very nice and is a lovely spot for a restaurant which has been decorated elegantly. The lights got dimmed down after a while which made it a little dark. The food was okay but was not out of this world, I made somewhat of the wrong decision ordering two cold dishes but also didn't get any suggestions from the wait staff. Pricing is also a bit on the high side. Would like to go back and try something different.
Jasveen Kaur
Amazing space, rustic but classy. The bathrooms had cloth hand towels which was a nice touch. The service was amazing, everyone was super helpful and attentive without hovering. But the real star was the food. We had the Burrata, Suffolk lamb and the pork and they were all delicious. The Burrata was my favourite, the burnt peach went so well with the mozzarella and cream, just couldn't get enough! Will definitely be back. Half the restaurant is for walk ins and the wait for us for 45mins at 6.45 on a Friday for dinner. They do call you when your table is ready so you can wander around for a drink, there are some nice places nearby, or find a seat at their bar.

Love Amano! This is my favourite restaurant at the moment, the food is delicious, the decor is beautiful and service is great too. I love Italian food , and Amano does Italian very well.

I have nothing to say because it's delicious. Love their dishes! Just go! 😁 and eat and enjoy the food

Staff is very welcoming and attentive.

WOW! Everything I hoped it to be and more. We arrived with no booking just before the rush and was happy to get a table for two. Complimentary breads n olive oil was a nice way to whet our apetite. We had juice cocktails while awaiting our mains. Service is outstanding. Ambience is great as the large room is spacy with seating placed to maintain a certain amount of privacy for each table. I enjoyed Chitara and my companion had steak. We shared strawberry & radish salad. We received complimentary lemon drops and liquer before leaving. We will definitely be going back to try other menu items.

I absolutely adore coming here! Third time coming back in a short period of time because I just can't get enough of this place. I had a special friend with me this time who came back to NZ for the first time in 13 years! I was wondering where do I take them for dinner in city that shows how bloody awesome our dining culture is? So I came back to Amano and there were no regrets. We don't even need to discuss how beautiful this place is, the staff are absolutely friendly and very helpful and the food is beautiful to stare at and of course it's beautiful in my mouth too. Thank you once again Amano for providing me with exceptional dining experience. Will be back soon!! (Food from clockwise - chargrilled organic chicken, crayfish tortello and strawberry salad)

Honestly loving the decor and vibe to this place! It's bare ceilings with beautifully hung dried flowers. Classy!

We were sat by the bar in front of the pasta machine. Best view and even learnt how it's done.

Service was really good! Everyone is friendly and very good with recommendations. Wine list is divine and we ordered the prosciutto with melon (yum!) and two pasta dishes. Definitely one of my favorite fresh pasta so far in Auckland.

One suggestion is to have a bag hook underneath the bar table so that we can hang out bags. :p

I like this new restaurant in britomart, fresh food good service a great addition to the hip group. We had the crudo with was so good, Straciatella , mackerel and charred octopus, everything was cooked perfectly. Will definitely recommend Amano . We will go back.
Frank
The latest and most inspiring new restaurant in the Britomart precinct! With it's beautiful decor and inviting charm, this place simply entices you in :-) The dishes we had all looked and tasted amazing, especially my crayfish tortello and the sensationally divine strawberry and radish salad! As well as the restaurant there is a bakery attached which has a fabulous selection of delicacies! You can't go wrong here, however slightly pricier than you might expect and also due to it's popularity it pays to get there earlier.

So after eating in Melbourne and Sydney, there was no motivation to go out to eat anywhere in Auckland. Food is just so so much better over there than here 😧 Anyway...I had wanted to try Amano for a while but didn't go because I couldn't justify paying so much for pasta haha.

We ordered the crayfish pasta (not worth it for $34), the kingfish, grilled mackarel, and the clams. Out of all 4 dishes, the clams and mackarel were the best and most worth the price. The clams were cooked well and had good flavour - it wasnt too overwhelming :D the mackarel was also cooked well and very flavoursome.

The pasta was pretty disappointing; 5 pieces for $34 lol but yeah it's not a cheapeats place. The kingfish was raw and pretty bland - not a dish I would order as a main dish for lunch.

The environment was nice 😁 It was good to give Amano a go but I wouldnt go back
Michelle Hwang
Ordered one wagyu stake and one grilled whole mackerel as my dinner meal. Both were served with pretty looking and wonderful taste. The waiter forgot to serve me their free sliced handmade bread, so I asked it for myself. Because there was no reason to miss so yummy bread at Amano. All staff were friendly. But there were some small flies wanted to share my food while I was eating my dinner.

Great restaurant with fresh food and a wholesome cooking style. Although we ate till we were full, the meal itself felt light and not a tad unhealthy.

Note the mackerel fish has a lot of bones, so don't order it if you don't like bones. If you can be bothered picking out the meat, it is a great dish with contrasting textures between the soft fish flesh and the crunchy baked bread crumbs.

The grilled chicken was also tasty, although some bits were less moist and tender compared to others.

The asparagus was well cooked and tasty. We also ordered two pasta dishes, both of which had great flavours. My favourite is the one with the brown butter sauce.

Although well done, Amano is not exactly my cup of tea so I won't be dying to revisit the place again. Regardless, I would still highly recommend visiting it at least once just to try given its high standard of food served today.

I was so excited after having seen it on many ads on instagram and having tasted their amazing bakery which opened prior to this restaurant. But I was disappointed.
Service was great but food was average and highly over priced.
The place has a beautiful ambience and vibe. Interior decor is sophisticated
Bt I simply would rather spend my money elsewhere on better Italian food
Would only come back for their exquisite bakery

Undeniably stylish and sophisticated, we entered the restaurant and were blown away by the lush yet cozy ambiance. Terrazzo marble, rustic wood, mother-of-pearl benchtops and hanging dried flowers made for beautiful decor that combined traditional with contemporary, and everyone, including the wait staff, seemed in good spirits. My boyfriend and I joined the group at a large table that seated 14 of us. To begin, my boyfriend ordered a beer – Sparks Brewing Outlander Stout – and I a Strawberry Bellini, a sweet, effervescent cocktail to start the night!

We ordered our mains from the Italian-inspired menu; for us these were the Angus Sirloin Steak and the Suffolk Lamb. Our friend ordered half a dozen fresh farmed Bluff oysters and Fagottino, mozzarella skin stuffed with ricotta.

My lamb arrived looking like art (the organic yoghurt and rosemary anchovy sauce was reminiscent of an abstract watercolour painting). Aesthetics aside, the lamb was rich, meaty & flavoursome. Although not as incredibly tender as I hoped, it was delicious and complemented well by the capsicum, eggplant and blend of sauces. I also thoroughly enjoyed the angus sirloin steak – juicy and succulent with a great flavour!

My boyfriend wasn’t as thrilled with it – having not been asked how he liked his steak, they cooked it medium rare leaning towards rare. He also noted it was delivered cold and overly soaked in olive oil and would have preferred it served with potatoes, as with many steak dishes. I can only agree that it wasn’t served hot, which would have definitely improved the dish, but I can’t fault the taste and texture.

Overall, a positive and pleasant first experience at Amano. I absolutely loved the style & atmosphere, and while I certainly enjoyed my cocktail and two meat dishes, they didn’t quite blow me away. The style & aesthetics seem to leave a stronger impression than the food. Nonetheless, I’d love to return for a taste of the other dishes that sparked my curiosity – eg. clam spaghetti, chargrilled organic chicken and an array of sweet & savoury treats from their artisan bakery!

Strawberry Bellini $16
Sparks Brewing Outlander Stout $12
Suffolk lamb, capsicum, eggplant, organic yoghurt & rosemary anchovy sauce $32
Angus sirloin steak, tarragon sauce & chicory $32
Fagottino, broad beans, mint & lemon $22
Fresh farmed Bluff oysters 1/2 doz $36

From joyandserenity.com

Decided to try out the new Hip group restaurant having eagerly anticipated it's opening for at least 18 months. As always, their fit out is amazing with high quality fixtures, fittings and furnishings and incredible attention to detail. We arrived to a very busy Friday lunch, but were quickly seated at the bar. Sat in front of the chefs frantically making the crayfish tortelloni - great entertainment and a good ad for the dish. We ordered the tortelloni, the sardines and the witloof salad. All were excellent, although the sardine could have perhaps had a bit more flavour - chargrilling or the like would have added a lot. The tortelloni were amazing, and the witloof had that lovely mixture of bitterness of the leaf and sweetness of the dressing. Attentive, friendly staff - will definitely be back!!

When you walk around Britomart you can't miss this new fancy italian restaurant. We went dining. The atmosphere is great, the staff over attentive but food offer and quality didn't really meet our expectations which explain this rate of 2.0 (main mission to visit is for Food).
Firstly, the paté came with bread (was burnt see pictures) so we needed to get this change.
Second, my pasta was tasteless
Third, the sardines should had come with a least a mini sides of vegetables or pasta.
Please keep it up and you have got the potential to success your restaurant, do not try to be a "tasting" italian, customers are looking for a great atmosphere (which you tick the box) but also a foodie journey.
I will be very attentive next time I visit for some improvement versus Gusto at the Grand, Baduzzi and Prego.

I'm abit confused about writing a review on here as we came here for lunch yet on zomato it says it's closed with the hours being 7am-12midday everyday... anyway, service was excellent, soda drinks were yum as was the smoothie. We ordered the kingfish crudo which was delicious (although getting a big bruise part on the avocado not so appealing) the whole sardines yummy and the scampi pasta was Devine as you get the whole tail in it. But was still hungry needed to have ordered more food/sides with it. Did try the side of tomatoes which were fresh. The entree came out fairly quickly but the mains took awhile. We then wanted to try a dessert but decided not too as we didn't feel like waiting more... i was still hungry so we popped into the bakery part ...

Visited for dinner tonight (22/10/16), a week since opening and can say I am impressed.

We arrived around 6pm, as walk ins as we weren't able to make a reservation (take advantage of their reservation system on their website!). Luckily we were able to be seated straight away.

The interior is stunning, suitable for a casual after work dinner, or somewhere for a romantic date.

The menu has so much to chose from, we ended up ordering the handkerchief pasta, sardines, lamb & charred lettuce.

Everything took about half an hour to arrive, noting it was completely full when we arrived.

We first tried the lamb. This was absolutely delicious and probably the best lamb dish I have ever had. The lamb was well cooked with the perfect amount of seasoning to compliment the meat, as well as the perfect amount of acidity to give it a kick.

The sardines were delicious! After you spent a few minutes picking out all the bones that is. The flavours were amazing but perhaps a different fish would be more preferable to avoid all the finicky small bones.

The pasta was by far value for money. At $13, I would be happy with that and a side dish. The over all flavour of the dish had a resemblance to pesto which made it even more delicious as well as being my second favourite dish for the evening.

The charred lettuce had nothing to fault. It was lovely and crispy with perfect accompaniments.

Overall, Amano is a beautiful restaurant celebrating fresh ingredients served in the most beautiful of ways. Definitely worth a visit with the view not being too bad itself.
