Review Tony's Steak & Seafood Restaurant & Bar - Auckland Central

Christopher Lai
There's a reason why they can claim to be the best steak in town. The beef is tender even if customers opt to have it cooked well-done, an admirable feat in its own. Better still, the classic British style interior adds to the aura of an excellent dining experience. The cheerful and attentive staff also contribute to a wonderful meal. Of course, no restaurant is perfect. With its wide selection of steak, it would be better if the restaurant provided photos of different dishes so customers can know what they're ordering. Also, they could probably rethink the Route 66 style decor under the table mats. Although American culture is indeed prominent in the world of steak, it seems to be a tad out of place in a restaurant like this, which prides itself with its vintage. Great restaurant overall nonetheless !

The seating was a little squashed but that made no difference to such great service and the food was on point. We had a little one with us and he was given pencils and paper to draw on while waiting for our food to arrive which considering the place was full didn't take too long at all. There were 3 steaks ordered and all 3 steaks were cooked to perfection from med-well to rare, plus I have to brag about the shrimp cocktail. Fat shrimps, gorgeous. The seafood platter was enough to share between 4 and loved the selection...oh and big ups with the seafood pasta...just yum.

A one great medium rare scotch fillet 💯 beautiful food. Lunch menu is half the price as dinner menu, I ordered from the dinner menu thinking I would get a bigger lunch but it was about the same as lunch menu but with a slightly bigger cut of the steak. So if you are going for the lunch order from the lunch menu. All the food me and my friends ordered were beautifully cooked..Service is good, place was nice..highly recommend it.

Tried our luck without a booking on a busy Tuesday evening- we were lucky! The atmosphere entering the restaurant was bustling yet nostalgic and welcoming. My friend and I both ordered medium rare steaks- after being tempted by the pastas on offer I must say. It was cooked exactly to my liking, and the seasoned vegetables were delicious and rounded the meal well with the fries. Lemon and passion fruit cheesecake I chose for dessert looked impressive, but unfortunately lacked in any kind of flavour other than creamy. Other than that our evening at Tony’s was a good one. Our waitress was also friendly and charismatic. Will definitely be going back to Tony’s the next time I visit Auckland.

I really love the vibe here, remain the kind of decoration in the past. A lot to choose in the menu, they have a few selection for lunch set. Love the steak and lamb shank, well prepared and flavorful. The seafood chowder was not up to expectation, they put only mussels and a lot of crab meat stick in it, not even fish or prawn, a bit disappointed.

I recently dined at Tony's, the iconic steakhouse in Auckland CBD, which has been serving patrons for an impressive 60 years. The moment I walked in, I was captivated by the charming decor that exuded vintage elegance. The display of vintage items and old black-and-white pictures of the city added a wonderful nostalgic touch. The staff at Tony's were a delight - welcoming, kind, and exceptionally attentive throughout our meal. Their outstanding service was truly the highlight of our visit. While the drinks were undeniably delicious, it's worth noting that the servings were on the smaller side, which might not suit everyone's preferences. Our dining experience took a slight dip with the appetizer, as the calamari turned out to be a tad too salty for our liking, leaving us with half of it untouched. However, things quickly turned around when our T-bone steaks arrived. They were nothing short of amazing, boasting juiciness and just the right amount of char to elevate the flavor. Surprisingly, no sauce was necessary to enhance the taste. The potato and kumara mash were heavenly, and the brussel sprouts provided a tasty complement to the main dish. My partner's T-Bone was slightly drier than mine, but it was still an enjoyable dish overall. Dessert was a mixed bag. We opted for the Pavlova, which, while having a delicious meringue, fell slightly short in terms of fruit and presentation. It wasn't as visually appealing as we hoped for, but the meringue itself was undeniably scrumptious. In addition to the delightful dining experience, the affordable bill was a nice surprise. For the sumptuous feast we enjoyed, including two delectable T-Bone steaks and our delightful drinks, the total came to a mere $185. This outstanding value for money adds to the reasons why I would eagerly return to Tony's in the future. It's not every day you find such a combination of top-notch service, culinary excellence, and affordability in a restaurant, especially one with a rich history spanning 60 years.

The service and atmosphere of this restaurant are great. We tried the Tony's original steak and the sticky pork ribs. The steak was prepared exactly as ordered but was underwhelming overall with fried that could have been crispier and asparagus that was mushy. The pork dish was very good and something I would order again.

Mum and dad raved about the place in the good old days Has not changed a bit of pawn cocktails are massive The steak perfectly cooked But a you must book they turned away 7 people in the course of the meal Old fashioned hearty meals in days before P.C. was a thing

Their steak was good but the meat was slightly overdone for us. Their seafood chowder was the best we had in our life. A must order when you are at Tony’s.

Came on a Wed for lunch, am glad I did my reservation, they were def busy. I managed to get a booth seat so it was really relaxed and quiet. Noticed the light bulbs were frosted to make it seemed like it was raining. See pic. Sf chowder was creamy, had bits of mussels, surimi and squid. Steak doneness was perfectly done according to my preference. Next time will definitely order from the main menu instead of from the lunch menu. But the lunch menu was truly economical.

I love it here its so relaxing people here are really friendly.. awesome atmosphere

Extremely friendly service even when full house. Very busy I think due to media saying they are closing down soon. Had to try it out myself. I wasn’t disappointed.

It’s not fine dining. But it’s a very nice steakhouse. Very good value for money. Very good portion size too. A must try!

Old vintage feel, yet extremely clean and tidy. Very rare in New Zealand. A lot of care still put into this restaurant.

Service: 5/5
Environment: 4/5
Presentation: 4/5
Food Quality: 4.5/5
Food Quantity: 5/5
Price per person for lunch: $15-$18

A original steak house that opened many years, still maintained very well. Clean and hygiene environment, super friendly service, steak Taste nice, chips are hot and crunch.

My partner and I stumbled upon Tony's recently when we were wandering around the city, looking for somewhere to stop for lunch, and woah were we impressed! We arrived right on opening, so it was pretty quiet initially, but quickly filled up, probably due to the great value lunch deals that they are offering at the moment.
Initially I wasn't stoked with where we'd been seated, but as it filled up, it felt a bit more comfortable being so close to the bar.
We were very impressed with our whole experience at Tony's; the staff were lovely and attentive. Being over 50 years old, you'd expect that it might be a bit run down, but it has obviously had some work done to it reasonably recently which meant that it was lovely and tidy inside. And the food! Just lovely, and such a great price!
We would highly recommend Tony's, particularly for lunch :)

Stopped by here just before a show at the Civic. Have always walked past here and finally got a chance to give it a shot. Ordered the Scotch Bearnaise which was cooked to perfection. Could have used a touch more seasoning but it was not much of an issue when theres salt on the table. Service was quick and friendly and worth a repeat visit!

Came in for lunch and dessert today. Tried the scotch fillet, lamb rank and dolce vita dessert. Used the niesh app to get a student deal for a $10 meal. Loved how soft the lamb was and the sauce also matched perfectly. Steak tasted average to me but the price was definitely worth and they also serve fries and salad with it. Dolce vita dessert had cappuccino ice cream and a thin layer of sponge cake. I was experiencing 'la dolce vita'. Loved every bite.

We got the Tony's Original Steak and Fillet Mignon as well as deep-fried calamari. Loved how each steak comes with two sides of choice. The steak were well cooked too

It's said that this restaurant has opened for half a century already. One of the oldest restaurants in Auckland. So I have to give it a shot. I preferred the lamb shank, sweet and nice. The steak was a bit coarse. Still one of the Lunch choice in Wellesley street because of its good value.

Great food and excellent service. I tried the seafood steak and the crispy skin salmon with citrus hollandaise is an excellent choice. The hollandaise sauce adds a French touch to the steak. The salmon was cooked to perfection - tender enough to give the salmon flavours while a little hard to give the feeling of eating a steak. The fries to the side is an excellent combination. The salad seemed a bit out of balance with the dish and better to select veggies instead.
I ordered a chef's special - roasted lamb rump and it was terrible. It was over cooked, tasteless and didn't resemble lamb at all! Very disappointed. I wanted to send it back, but the first round took 45 minutes to come and we didn't have time to wait for them to try again.
My wife's pepper steak was delicious, but they were a bit stingy on the chips and the salad was nothing special. Overall not what we expected from an institution in Auckland CBD. At least when I gave my feedback they took our 2 wines off the bill. Won't be rushing back though and definitely wouldn't order the lamb!!

The interior of the restaurant could be alittle dark for some people but is very clean. Has the retro look. Food is good. We had steak, love the sauce. Seafood chowder is nice.

I went a few days ago with a friend and it was very lovely. The atmosphere is quiet and really nice. The waiters and staff were so nice and friendly I definitely would go again. It’s such fine dining for their affordable prices. My friend and I were both very pleased with the meal and the wait was only 15-20 minutes.

Really love this place! The enviro is nice and service is friendly. Ordered the Beef and Seafood(sorry, forgot the name of these two dishes, my bad memory), both one is delicious!

It's been a while since I last visited Tony's so I was surprised when they didn't have their $10 lunch deals when I went last Thursday. Although they're now $12,the same good quality food and service are still there. I'm glad we decided to go there for lunch.

Tony’s is your classic family steak house. The staff are friendly and polite. The 70’s (?) old style English Pub aesthetic with the booths are what make the place 👌🏻 … and the steak. The menu is extensive enough without being too much but enough variety to please many tastebuds

I love this place so much. The staff is awesome and they lunch deals are fantastic. So convenient being right in the middle of town too. I love seeing the history of Tony’s all around the restaurant too.

What an amazing place! One of the best well-done steaks I have had. Pepper Steak and Calamari rings along with some red wine was the best decision. Little expensive but worth every dime. A MUST MUST GO place! Cheers!

Unfortunately didnt live up to my expectation considering the old tonys down lorne st was an exceptional steak house.

Thanks for putting free drinks on after waiter forgot to give our orser to the cook.
Whilst the food was above average it fault that like the staff simply “couldn’t be bothered” working. No smiles or apologises for making us wait 10-15mins for a drink.

Very friendly staffs are warmly welcoming us. $1 oysters are a little bit skinny but worth them. The seafood chowder was amazing. Excellent restaurant.

Had the most delicious carpetbag steak which was eye fillet stuffed with oysters plus a couple of sauteed oysters on top of the meat. Cooked to perfection. Definitely coming back to have that again!!!
Went to Tony’s based on a strong recommendation of it being one of Auckland’s oldest steak restaurants. Going straight to the point ordered at scotch steak with bernaise sauce. Unfortunately received an over cooked, luke warm steak that was covered with the Bernaise sauce. Appears the back of house have no standards to the food presented. They started with a fantastic piece of scotch with good marbelling but then firstly the chefs left it too long on the hot plate, secondly left it to cool down too long and thirdly instead of leaving the bernaise sauce in a side container tried to cover up their mistake by covering the steak in the sauce. Simply mistake after mistake then a cover up, not what I would expect from reputedly Auckland’s oldest and best known steak restaurant. I raised this with them and they gave me a $5 off voucher for my next visit which suggests they get complaints often. Otherwise the restaurant is beautifully decorated and a good list of beers and wines. Has the potential to be 5 stars but unfortunately had quite an ordinary experience on this occasion.

Enjoyed Tony’s
Service was really good, we didn’t wait long for our food.
Pacific steak was real delicious especially with the filling in it.
Seafood pasta was nice, I’d prefer creamy however I got tomato base and it wasn’t too bad enjoyed the variety of seafood in it.
Seafood platter was our favourite - a good amount and variety was awesome.
Friendly staff and the setting was nice 👍

$1 Oysters OMG with Great beer and Great service. I can eat and drink here night. Oysters are fresh served on a plate of salad. Oyster and great beer are a match made in heaven here. Thisncould be a weekly or daily habit

Was able to get a late booking for a group of 15 - excellent service and food was on point. Recommend to those who are looking for a hearty and satisfying menu. Really enjoyed the Pineapple cider as well

I went to Tony's alone as I craved for steak during the weekends. The customer service is superb from the time you stepped onto the door. Oriented me with the menus well.

I ordered seafood chowder- creamy and yum!! Highly recommended. Had a wine and grande steak which is good for 2 persons. The steak was very good and cannot complain of the size.

Overall, dining experience was excellent. They managed the flow of customers well (it was Saturday night). #happytummy #steak #Tony's

Been here a few times and have enjoyed the Tonys $10 lunch burger and chips.
Today I had disaster lunch went for $10 steak. Ordered the $10 Rump lunch special, steak was ineligibly tough so i complained. The waitress said they would make me another one, I said "dont worry ill just go." She said "are you sure?" I said, "how do know its not going to be the same." She said "we will make sure." After another 8-12 min the new dish came with steak just as tough if not worse. Saw a large table of Asian sitting next to me a couple of the guys putting the chewed steak into their napkins. Walked out and wont be back.

Good service. We ordered steak, seafood platter and a pasta. The pasta is a bit dry. Highly recommend the steak, it was juicy and tender. Highly recommend...

This place has ample seating inside, it has a nice traditional bar setting. Staff extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious, I ordered medium rare and it came out perfectly. Would recommend especially for that price which is a steal. 💯💯

This is the second time I've been to Tony's and the restaurant is exceptional.

The restaurant is large and busy but waiting times are as expected with a high quality of friendly customer service.

The scotch fillet steak I ordered came with a small salad and jacket potatoes in fairly quick time.

The salad was nicely presented and the potatoes not undercooked and the steak is juicy and tender.

It is a tad expensive for a meal but an experience worth every dollar.

$10 deal for steak - a solid 10/10
Came in with Niesh app special deal ($10 for ordering anything on lunch menu)
I ordered petite eye fillet with mushroom sauce with salad and fries. The mushroom sauce was so rich and the steak was cooked at the exact level that I wanted. The steak was quite small but c’mon it’s $10 and it’s a steakhouse what do you expect😂 there were quite a lot of fries so overall my tummy was satisfied.
Interior is quite dark with dim light but it’s cozy. Staff were very nice and friendly.
I noticed that they had $10 rump steak or fish n chips or beef burger for lunch so can’t wait to try those also!!

My friend and I were there for Christmas Eve dinner. Overall, it was a great experience. Nice ambience and friendly staff. The warm lamb salad was heavenly. Huge portion, very well seasoned lamb with fresh salads. The texture of the mashed pavlova was good, but the taste was overwhelmed by the berry sauce (personal preference). Will definitely go back again.

I really like it here ...you couldn't ask for friendlier staff...tables cleared quickly ..water refilled and service was top notch..We had the $10 lunch steak meals...well worth the money ...bread and dips were great too and the garlic bread was amazing .I would highly recommend it here ..the atompshere is great as well as the staff.

Pretty good experience. Nice vibes and reasonable fast service. Food was pretty good too - 3 of us got the fillet steak, one got the chicken breast and I got the bangers and mash. Portions were reasonable for the price too.

We dined here on a busy Saturday night for my birthday, and certainly were not disappointed. Began the night off with drinks and some starters- we had a lovely young waitress who had quite a strong accent, although she always repeated our order back to make sure that she had our orders correct and so was able to change any errors she may have made. The prawn cocktail to start with was so delicious! Tonnes of prawn and a delicious bed of thousand island coleslaw. We also had a garlic bread which my brother said was cooked to perfection leaving it not too crisp and not too soggy. Calamari was also a great portion size and all for reasonable prices.

We followed these up with 3 steaks and a burger. All of the steaks were cooked to perfection with plenty of choice for vegetables or salad and fries or herby potatoes. This meant we could personalise our meal to what we fancied. On the night that we went, the vegetables were asparagus and carrot with garlic butter - I hope these never change because I will be back for these for sure! Vegetables cooked to perfection and herby potatoes to die for! Lovely basting on the steaks too so no need for sauce. Only one problem we had was a bit of gristle in the burger although we understand that this sometimes happens and cannot always be prevented.

Thank you Tony's for a birthday meal to remember!

Had a lovely meal here. Love the cosy booths and feel of the restaurant. Service was lovely and quick.

Food was well presented and the burger was a generous portion. Steak was a bit smaller than I imagined it would be for a steakhouse.

great customer service. steak i ordered was medium rare and it was PERFECT just how i like my steak. food was prompt and will definitely recommend this place for anyone craving a PERFECT medium rare steak :)

While we came here to eat steak, the wonderful surprise was the crispy calamari. The calamari was PERFECTLY cooked. It was tender and not rubbery at all. The spices didn't overpower the calamari. The steak were properly cooked as requested. Side veggies were cooked fresh. Definitely worth the money. 👌

Been here so many times the seafood chowder is amazing , last time i have the best seafood chowder was in Sf usa . The steak is remarkable. The best
We went for dinner at Saturday night but couldn't get space as we were 9 in total and it was already full.
Went again the other day for lunch. They have an amazing limited time offer for lunch, rump steak with salad or beef burger with fries for just 10 dollars.
Staff is super friendly and very welcoming.

The food came super quick. Steak was delicious and burgers was juicy. Good quantity as well.
A must try.

I went for a dinner tonight with another person.
I bought a first table voucher which gives 50% discount to the whole bill (food only).

The booking was at 5pm and I went in at time. The waitress welcomed us with a big smile and escorted us to a cosy table. Another waiter came with menu and he kindly answered all my questions about menu and explained them for me. Staff here are truly super duper! They are so attentive and providing quality hospitality.

We ordered nachos ($12)for entree, Tonys original steak ($36) and chicken breast ($38) for the mains. It didn't take too much of a time for them to serve us our entree.

This nachos is amazing. Probably the best nacho I have ever had in my life. We tried chicken toppings for it and it works so good. I only had beef nachos before but truly chicken nachos are so good. Although the portion is huggggeee as you can see in the picture, It's less oily so you don't get sick of it. We finished the whole nachos. There is plenty of meat and beans sauce on top of nachos with cheese and sour cream but amazingly the nacho chips were not soggy at all! They were crispy and delicious.

Tony's original steak is a scotch fillet marinated in Tonys special Marinade (the kind waiter told me that marinade is made up of soy sauce, red wine, pineapple etc). I was a bit worried about freshness of the beef because its marinated meat but the meat was so fresh. Steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare with perfectly seared crunchy outside. Potato and kumara mash on the side was perfectly seasoned too. The steak is probably at least 400g it was huge but I somehow managed to finish it all because it was so good.

Chicken breast with mushroom sauce my friend had was good too but it cant beat the steak I had. I would rather go for steak than chicken breast. It's quite pricy for a chicken breast dish too but again portion is huge.

Before visiting, I expected that I will be served with food that has less portion or quality because obviously thats what other restaurants do if customers use discount vouchers but no the food was amazing and portion was truly huge that we both felt so full after our meal.

I don't know why Tony's has such a low rating, I hope people realise how a restaurant can be run over 50 years. It's because they know what they are doing and they are good at it.

I will definitely come back again to try other types of steak! Thank you for your service.

My wife,my daughter and I decided to have a pre movie dinner here tonight,I am lost for words to describe the excellent experience we had. Our waitress Hannah was extremely pleasant and attentive (also attractive to boot) and the food and drinks were promptly served. I had the mushroom soup and Fillet with Bearnaise (medium rare),the mushroom soup was delicious and the steak was cooked to absolute perfection with a lovely side of bean and bacon and red potato with herb.My wife had the fish and chips, again they were faultless. My daughter had the Deep Fried Camembert entree and Spaghetti Bolognese, the camembert was fantastic and she loved the spaghetti ,the serving was also too big for her to eat it all. Even the check out guy was great,I wish I could give them a 10 out of 5 rating,I did give a 25% gratuity to be shared between the kitchen and waitress. I highly recommend this Restaurant and wish you the same wonderful experience we had.

I just tried their 10 dollar meal, which is steak, chips and salad. it is really good and the place is quite nice. the ambiance and the theme of the place is interesting, but the table where we ate seems too dark, they should put additional lights.
Ysabel Taya Regino
Great lunch! The ten dollar deals are so good and you're food quality is way more than what you pay for. Very satisfying. I recommend you go for lunch if you want some good quality good for a small price

Came here on the Wednesday $10 Niesh deal, ordered the venison sausage bangers and mash. They have great deals every lunch and the food is lovely.

Steak was really good, all it needs is fresh cut chips and a vinaigrette on the salad which would be an easy fix. Service was really friendly and welcoming.

Really friendly staff with cosy atmosphere and great food! Would definitely recommend eating here if you are in the area as they have got some good deals

Visited this restaurant back in February while on a trip to Auckland. Had purchased a first table coupon so the restaurant was dead during our visit being so early in the night, the quietness was rather uneasy. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful, some of the best service I've received. Ordered the chicken wings for the starter, wasn't a fan of them but my partner was. She then ordered a seafood and steak skewered dish which she wasn't too impressed with. I ordered the Tony's original steak. Oh my God. Best steak I've ever had by far, every steak I've had since then has disappointed me as it didn't live up to Tony's. Will definitely return to Tony's just for this steak when I'm back in Auckland in July.

Place was great for lunch those 10 dollar deals are top notch. Good value for money. I Like that eye fillet 😍. Good customer service, very friendly and welcoming. The place was kinda dark though.

Once again me and my girlfriend went here once she came back from her trip, as i'm a englishman the establishment to me gave off an english pub on a saturday night vibe, though we both noticed that the place was extremely quiet and even though we where talking at a reasonable level i felt that we where shouting because of how quiet it was, we got seated in the window seat looking out on to wellesley street which she found rather uncomfortable as people who where walking past would stare at us while we ate, which made me feel uneasy aswell, i recommend getting rid of these seats or doing something about the window. The food however was amazing, both of our starters where out in a flash and cooked to perfection, then came the steaks which where even better, they where cooked to a tee and just melted in your mouth, the waitresses where helpful in making sure we where comfortable and everything was to our liking, but again it didn't escape the fact that every time we looked to our left and right people where staring at us, which again ruined the night for me, the price was ok, if my memory serves me well, 2 steaks, 1 nachos,1 garlic bread, 1 corona and another drink (apologies for not recalling what it was) came to around $110 dollars, which i felt was not the best given our seating, overall i would recommend this restuarant to anyone looking for a good steakhouse, but if you get the window seats, ask to move.
Kelly
Amazing steak, so tender and cooked to perfection. I had the fillet minion, medium rare, and it came with a bold herby sauce (generous amount of mushrooms), a fresh salad, and yummy broccoli (I opted to not have the spuds). Friendly service, and it was nice that the waiter frequently checked in with us - it wasn't at all intrusive. Made our visit very comfortable. I'll be back for sure!

Amazing food!! Everything was really fresh and full of flavour. Friendly and helpful staff. Don't overlook this place, it's definitely worth a stop.

We dined at Tony's Saturday 28th Jan 2017. Having both eaten here many times in the last 4 years we were extremely disappointed with the seafood platters which we always order. The portion of fish was comparible to a fish bite and only one. The prawns were very over cooked are rubbery, the shrimps were minimal - only 4 when you used to get a good "shrimp cocktail " sized portion. The cerverche was served on a spoon - pathetic, was always in a glass bowl. They also served up a small soft shell crab which had been deep fried - rubbery and oily absolutely disgusting.
After eating what we could of this dreadful meal, we sat waiting to see someone regarding dessert (still hungry and thought it would be a safe option) After 30 minutes no show of anyone, so we left.
An extremely disappointing dinner and we wouldn't recommend Tony's to anyone.
Very sad as we have eaten here for some time but never again.
I would hope that management and staff take a close look at their reputation and lift their game.

Visited on Jan 6th and chose it especially, both for it's reputation and as one of our party was visiting from London and wanted fresh NZ oysters. Arrived and told 'No oysters, sorry. We've run out'. I ordered filet mignon and the streak was great but the accompanying salad was just mixed lettuce leaves with a bit of dressing and in a place with such a great reputation I thought the fries would be hand cut but were just the frozen ones and were cold when they arrived on the table. Others in our party were not happy with their meal either and my son - the visitor from London ordered the mixed platter but as there were no oysters he chose hot chicken wings but only got 2 in place of oysters and they were bland and tasteless. All in all, plus a bill for 6 people including wine of $383.00 and the disappointing and poor quality meals we won't be back or recommending any visitors to Auckland to patronise this restaurant.

Unfortunately we did not have a good experience when it came to the food.

I had the Ugly burger which was good but nothing amazing for the price I had to pay.
My partner had the great steak (scotch fillet) which he had to spit out after trying to chew on it for 5 minutes. The steak was cooked well (rare) but DEFIANTLY not worth $55!

Thankfully the waiter we had was great, she was welcoming and did apologize for the steak (which we did not pay for).

Although the chef did not come out and apologize and neither did the manager who was standing at the main desk and when we were about to leave the manager was making excuses for the steak and pretty much saying it was our fault because we got the steak rare.

I would have rather go to my local pub and pay half the price for better food. Would not go here again...

This place was overpriced and overall pretty bad. We tried the seafood platter and oysters as well as a steak. The seafood platter was mainly bland deep fried frozen food and they didn't even give us salmon sashimi they just gave us smoked salmon. The scallops and calamari on their were obviously prefrozen, expected much better for 39 dollars. It was no where near worth the price. The oysters were small, shrinkled and not fresh and the steak was very small and overpriced. Our waiter got our order wrong and was obviously inexperienced. Overall not a good experience.
Dave Koefoed
Dinner last night prior to the show. When we arrived it was quite empty, by the time we left the place was humming. The meal was nothing short of fabulous, steak cooked to perfection. It's been a long time since we were here, years actually, but we will definitely be back.

Had the $10 Rump steak lunch special today and was very satisfied with the quality I got for $10. I had the steak cooked to medium and the chef certainly delivered that request. My steak however was quite small compared to everyone else's around the table and the salad on the plate lacked dressing.
Mon's Adventure
There weren't too many exciting options along the main streets, similar to Swanston St, an almagation of different cuisines. We ended up at Tony's where we heard we could get a decent steak and seafood.

As a meat and seafood lover this place has totally won me over!
Our starter was the seafood chowder of course. Followed by mains - Eye fillet steak, mash and steamed broccoli. My partner ordered the Fillet Mignon, mash and broccoli. We enjoyed the meal very much.
The staff a very friendly and the service is great.
It's nice to dine in such an iconic Auckland restaurant.
I look forward to my next visit.

I had the $10 lunch fish and chips. Very average meal. The chips were undercooked. But for the price and location it is acceptable for a reasonable quick lunch.

Such good service and amazing lunch deals !!
The beef burger was $10 and this generous portion of delicious mushroom fettuccini was $12
We will definitely come back !

It was busy even for a monday and we can see why
One of few places that keeps their price and quality

Great restaurant - very attentive staff and the host was a sparkle of joy! We went with the First Table discount which gives 50% off. We both ordered a steak main, mum had oysters for entree $1 each which is amazing! Then dessert was icecream sundae and affagatto. Great ambience, food was yummy and staff were super friendly and efficient. Would reccomend and definitely go back!

Have been wanting to come to this place for years, unfortunately very disappointed. Food was mediocre and drinks we had to go get at the bar because firstly the waitress never asked us then when we asked her she never came back with anyhing, even still waiting for the drinks to come back to the table from the bar took long. Place wasnt that busy and it seemed very relaxed which was i guess, good. For the price of most of the menu items you can get much better quality meal elsewhere in town.

I had the $10 rump steak for a lunch some time ago.

I have to commend the lovely staff who were very friendly and accommodating on my first visit to Tony's. Well done and thank you.

Now to the meal itself. The steak was obviously a good price. However, the trade-off was quality. It must be said that you cannot expect a steak for about $30 for the price of $10. That is probably going to be a counter-point. But even so, the steak itself was slightly too hard to bite. Not sure if other people had this problem or not.

There was a salad that came on the side. It did its job well, though nothing spectacular.

And who can forget the chips, it was very well cooked (in a tasty way). Not meaning overcooked or burned. The staff gave a good splashing of sauce to go with the chips.

Some people don't like the old-school, retro interior. I am quite fond of it personally.

Overall, this is a good place for lunchtime steaks that are a good bargain. I would recommend this place.
Yorkshire Pudding
Fancied Steak & Chips and figured this would be the best joint in the city.
Started with the prawns, which were dreadful, certainly frozen, thawed and served on a slaw base - we complained about them and the waitress apologised but no explanation came from the kitchen.
The Camembert was bland.
Steaks were great - mine was rare but came blue - I enjoy blue and would have ordered it that way if idv known they would have done it so well as its difficult in the city to get a good blue steak.
My partners was well done (apologies to the chef) served with soggy chips and salad.
Salad was basic, cous cous added neither texture nor flavour to it and the reason for its presence was bewildering.
Gentleman who arranged the bill was very pleasant, chatty and polite - the only real service we'd be keen to return for.
All in all we paid $130 for a $60 meal to eat somewhere dated, this place is living on the reputation of its previous popularity - time to drag it into the 21st century.

One thing I'm quite sure: they're steak is not as good as they think it is. Not even close to that.

Went there in a group for lunch and two people ordered steaks. The doneness was completely wrong for both of them. Medium rare was bleu, well done was medium rare.

I tried squids. it wasn't bad, but the side dish was French fries, which made everything so greasy.

My experience was very bad, but still I'd like to come back not on lunch time to see if the food is better when they are charging more.

Ten of us went to Tony's for a birthday lunch which enabled us to take advantage of their $10 special (e.g a half sized rump steak with chips and salad). Rather ironically the pepper sauce that you could add to the order cost $5 - go figure. Anyway we had the clam chowder which was pretty good and the steaks were, as you would expect very good. The deserts were excellent and in the case of the cheesecake, huge. Service was friendly but not that efficient. The coffee was foul. So if you are looking for a basic but reasonably good steakhouse, give it a go.

Always like steakhouses and it's even better if they have special lunch menus. I went with one of their popular dishes the rump. Beef cooked as ordered and the salad had a bit more than leaves in it. Decent feed and nice service, what more could you ask for?

Tony's has been around for so long, but nothing has changed! The quality of the steak, the atmosphere and the quality of the serving staffs are always maintained at a very high level!

After all the new restaurants in town, Tony's still the good old reliable date night choice for us!
Tina Coles
What a great place to stumble upon. We were booked in for a show and just popped in here first. Glad we did, we were greeted immediately and shown to the table. When we said we were a little pushed for time, no problem. The food was absolutely gorgeous, the plates were soon emptied. We'll definitely be returning here as there was an awful lot of items on the menu we need to taste. Wonderful service, food and atmosphere. Loved it

Tony's has been serving the most tender, succulent steaks to us for over 40 years! Even the decor is nostalgic with good old fashioned friendly service. The scallops floated In a robustly flavoured sauce. Yum! Enjoyed the simple sides of new potatoes covered in pesto and a tossed salad to accompany the steak. Reluctantly shared the Lemon Cheesecake but I could easily have eaten it all myself. As far as value for money goes, in my opinion, a meal at Tony's ticks all the boxes!
Zoheb Gafoor
Good choice for a steak in the middle of CBD. Friendly and helpful staff. I was confused between seafood and steak when the staff recommended the Pacific Steak - beef fillet stuffed with crab meat and grilled shrimps on top. The sauce was particularly delicious
Laurie Ellul
Great place for a steak. The pepper steak was delicious and fillet Mignon equally so. The sautéed beans with bacon and onion was inspired! Staff were friendly. Decor in keeping with the restaurant's theme.

This place has been around for a long time and still has great service and even better steak. The solid wooden decor is unique in a good way with several booths and window-side tables.

And then there's the steak. Oh the steak.
Jessica Li
I love the interior of the place! It's so antique and gives this place character. The service was friendly which made the whole experience better :) I though the food was fairly good. My lamb salad was ok but I tried some of the steak and that was delicious. I think definitely order what this place is famous for (steak and seafood)
Betty Diao
came here for a birthday dinner on a saturday night still got a table since we went early. for starters we got the bread of the day and oysters, the oysters were cheap and tasty, bread was nice too. for main i got the pacific steak and my boyfriend got the fettucine, in my opinion the fettuccine wasnt creamy and cheesy enough but the mushroom underneath was very juicy and yummy. the staff were friendly and attentive, they dressed up to halloween theme which was very interesting. would go back again
Yoana S
We waited almost an hour for our food, our kids were dying of hunger! The people who sat across from us, came a few minutes after us and got their food first! and we got ours when they were almost done. When we asked the waitresses where our food was, they looked like they were scrambling, the guy behind the bar checked but decided to tell us he wasnt sure what happened in the kitchen. The steak was nothing to brag about, and it was overpriced for what it's worth. My son wasnt impressed with the spaghetti bolognese, he didnt even finish half. Dont think we'll be coming anytime soon.
Zoe Huang
Had their $10 lunch special today. I ordered rump steak and my partner ordered squid ring. They are both $10. I liked the rump steak very much. It was medium rear. It was tender and juicy. Service was nice.
Luka Zubčić
Awesome place! I loved everything about it. Steak was cooked perfectly and would recommend it to anyone. Also the service was on point and everyone was so helpful!
DarkSister
Fantastic food, one of my favourite steak houses. Have tried the Fillet Mignon numerous times, fantastic! Great service, English pub set up, parking is within 500m of the restaurant. Definitely worth a try.
Javier Yebenes
Today I visited Tony's for the first time with a friend for lunch and I got very surprised.
We both had a $10 steak with chips and salad and the meat was perfectly cooked and very tender and tasty (to be rump). Chips were well cooked and salad actually very nicely dressed.
The best part was the staff, the hostess was wonderful and very smiley and the waitress was spot on. Well done girls!

I will be back for sure!

Had been looking forward to this..got there and was seated, was busy, good thing we booked.
Where we were seated wasn't great, right buy an entrance way..i ordered steak, friend had seafood platter.
Both of us and the people seated right next to us..were very disappointed with the meals.
Pricey also..service good, seating wasn't, food was poor..
Wont be going back.

We have been here before and had an enjoyable dinner. My son picked the venue for his 16th Birthday being a steak lover and was looking forward to having dinner here. The service was less than average with us having to ask for drinks. We ordered 5 mains, of which 4 were less than satisfactory. The chicken was still slightly pink in the centre, the T Bone was very fatty and the fish was thin and dry. Overall a very disappointing evening. The waitress did knock $15 off our bill and they did ask if we wanted any of the meals replaced however by this point our preference was just to leave the establishment. I am more than happy to pay good money for good food but I would compare the food on this occasion to being similar if not slightly worse than pub grub. Maybe this was just a one off but we wont be coming back here again.
Tian Tian Zhang
Love the vintage decor of the place. We went on Monday at 5pm, very quiet but that's to be expected. The place is actually huge! I like how the seating is in booths, but I'm not sure if you can get a big table if you go with lots of people...
I got medium rare steak and it was a little over done just like someone else reviewed previously. I tried my friend's rare one and it was really good. Next time definitely opting for rare! The staff were friendly and helpful.

Good deals at Lunch Time. Is a well know steakhouse. They have good space, I have been there at Lunch and Dinner both times we were satisfied with the food and the portions. Service is good sometimes... last time we felt a little ignore by the our waiter, he wasn't very busy and maybe planing to close soon when we arrive around 9ish . They react until I race my hand ✋ to the waiters a couple of times. Maybe was a tough day I guess as others times they where fine.
They have a very good location with some parking in the street ( If you are lucky enough to find one ) close to SkyTower and The Civic.
Mommy friendly :? Yes I have seen families there. Preferentially at Lunch.

Holly Grey
went here with my partner recently, my last visit was about 6 years ago! I remember this place having memorable steaks, cooked really well and the service being very good.

This time around, nothing has changed. Still love the steak!
Chay P Rosales
The stake was big and yum even if we only avail the $10 promo during lunch time. Me and my friends liked the ambiance even if the place is quite small.
LouLou
A number of work colleagues pop in here for lunch as it is so close to the office and have recommended the food, so I was looking forward to going. The lunch menu gave plenty of options and were really cost friendly. I ordered my steak medium rare and found it to be a little over done. Portion sizes where perfect for a lunch time meal. We did have to wait to receive our food, however the restaurant is deceptive from the front door - there are far more tables inside than you'd expect.
Stephanie J
Been here twice for dinner, both were superb; the food cooked just right and served accordingly, and the service always friendly. It gets a little loud because there are so many people there but all busy restaurants are. By the way, their pepper steak is one that will never disappoint.
Victoria
Exactly what you expect. With a modern English menu bordering pub style presentation, come here if you're craving unpretentiousness, steak and chips style meals. It is on the higher end with prices especially compared to the abundance of cheap eats in town. Very much a dinner with the in laws kind of place for us.
Nicole Mae Flores
Been going to this place quite a lot, mainly because of their winter $10 lunch meals. The service I received everytime i come to this place was great. They were very attentive to their customers. The food was amazing and i highly recommend their seafood chowder and calamari. Those 2 was the best for me. The setting was quite dark yet it adds to the ambience of the place and made it feel like a pub in the 70s or earlier. Overall, the place was great, and would definitely keep going back.
Vika Dorokhova
Always nice service, the lunch specials are fairly underwhelming but regular meals are tasty and are served quickly - menu is expected "pub" food.
Cheapster
Had lunch there today with my family, taking advantage of the limited-time $10 of rump steak and beef burger, as well as the seafood chowder on the lunch menu.

The food was fantastic - the chowder was hearty and crammed with seafood and vegetables, the burger was very well-sized with the patty thick, juicy, and tasty, and what seemed a very common order, the steak, was very decently sized and though a little chewy, was excellent with a bit of salt.

The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was very clean and homey. The dishes were good value for money and filling. I would definitely recommend the lunch menu for good, hot, food.
Jessica Harris
This place wins for its ambiance.

I'd go back again just to bask in the wood-based decor and homey, rustic feeling.

The food is tasty as well, and the $10 lunches are amazing value for money.

I had the rump steak medium rare and it came out perfect with fries and a salad.

My friend had the spaghetti and I was in #food #envy

Find a nice place to sit and be good value outside a food court is becoming increasingly difficult in the middle of the city but this place certainly is.
Ria Frost
First time at Tony's and I guarantee I will be there again.
There were six of us there and we had an awesome evening. The service and friendliness of the staff was fabulous and the speed of the food was quite reasonable considering it was a busy Saturday evening.
There was an array of food ordered from our table but the fillet mignon was a popular choice and certainly quickly became a favourite of everyone there. There was also the rack of lamb, the pacific steak as well as the fillet bernaise. All were delicious and there was no one left unhappy at our table. Great evening had by all :)
Donna&Shane
Have been here a few times ... When you want a steak and chips then this delivers... Service is very good and the steak has always been enjoyable .... Handy location
Jamez Hill III
Had their 10 dollar lunch specials the burger and rump steak. I felt you got what you paid for. The steak was a small portion and slightly overcooked. The burger was tasty, however dripped with beetroot juice everywhere which is no fun 🙅 the chips were overcooked as well. Slightly below average, the service saved a lower score. Definitely a place i would only come to once i forger how average it is 💁😂

Had dinner with our two kids in tow, our l 7 year old boy enjoyed a lot as did we.

We had 2 of the Tony's Special, Spaghetti Bolognese (kid's plate) and Clam Chowder. The wife and daughter split the Clam Chowder and a Tony's Special. The Clam Chowder serving was big enough for the two to share. Our little boy ended up asking for some of my steak because it was seasoned and cooked really well.

The spaghetti was tasty and filling. I had to eat what my little boy couldn't finish.

Can't complain about anything and will definitely be back to try more on the menu.

Andrew Felix Ferdaus
Having lunch at this place for the first time. I didn't have much expectation but the food blew my mind, great flavour, good quality ingredients & generous portion. And it's a nice place to have enjoyable dining experience with some good friends. And lastly the service was really nice too
Fishstew
Excellent Meal. Tony's was recommended by a colleague as good place for a steak. Tonight I took his recommendation and went to Tony's for dinner.
I have to agree with his recommendation on the steak and go as far as saying it was possible one of the best steaks I have ever had. I had the Tony's Original steak which was cooked prefect and full of favour.
The only issue I had with the steak was I couldn't stop eating even though I felt full.
I was full because I made the error of ordering a starter. That wasn't a bad error. The starter was the most tasty and generous seafood chowder I have ever tasted.

I will come to Tony's everytime I'm in Auckland and pass the recommendation forward to anyone I know coming here.
Alberto
The best Steak restaurant in all NZ!!!
Jannyannyanice
Having dined in Tony's many times throughout the years, our experience at Tony's was enjoyable as usual. The portions are always generous, in fact, we never worry about leaving the restaurant with an empty stomach. Quite the opposite!

Unfortunately my steak was cooked to be more medium well done than medium itself. Other than that, the rest of the meal was delicious. Tony's original never fails to impress.

Friendly service from the staff that rounded up an enjoyable night for us.

Always excited to try new restaurants. Wasn't disappointed at all. Food was Devine. Great hospitality. Good little drive to get out of home. Would definitely recommend this to others and all as a must try. Great selection of food. Didn't wait too long for food but still could have been a bit quicker. Other than that, had an awesome time.
Deanne Janice Pereira
Delicious food and really friendly wait staff. It was really money well spent. The only thing I would complain about is probably the main portions of the steaks were quite big. We couldn't finish it after eating our entrées which was a shame because it was really yum! I would still rate it 5.0 though because it has definitely won my heart.
Ruslan Gariev
We had lunch at "Tony's Original Steak House" this afternoon. The place was old-fashioned, quiet and cozy just like home. The Eye fillet steaks that we ordered were perfectly cooked. Tender, juicy and delicious!!! We were really impresed by the well - trained staff, exellent food, outstanding service and great atmosphere, not to mention good value for money. We'll absolutely be back soon!!!!
Rachel Scaife
Lovely friendly staff, but the food was terrible and cold.. It took too long for 3 steaks to arrive and my partners lasagna was the most dry thing I've ever seen, no sauce. Not worth the money!!
Terence Ng
Great restaurant with a good atmosphere but today was a little disappointing. Came here with a party of 14; some of the orders were mixed up and steak was a little over cooked.
Rachel Bradbury
Unfortunately we were very disappointed. The staff were excellent, service was lovely, they even shouted us a piece of cake and sang happy birthday for my fiance - top notch there. But the restaurant seems a little tired and dilapidated, and the food was outrageously bad for the price. We ordered deep fried camembert and corn and bacon soup for an entree - I could have bought the soup in a can from the supermarket and added fatty bacon myself. The cheese came out looking like a cheap hash brown patty, it tasted fine but the cheap little water crackers served next to a piece of supermarket lettuce left a lot to be desired.
Our steaks came out completely overdone, tough and tasted microwaved - apparently the steaks are cooked using a lid, thus they tasted stewed/slow cooked and not at all like a good piece of eye fillet should taste!!
My broccoli was bruised and floppy, and the kumara mash was a watery mess sludged underneath it. Even the potatoes managed to be done badly - tasting slimy and greasy.
All in all a real shame as I had high hopes. The worst part is that we spent $100 for the privilege!
Shharukh Issani (Sharkx)
Proper served steak , good spot for dinner date. Love the pepper steak , cracked pepper marinated eye fillet cooked really well served with your choice sauce (should try with extra butter on top) and exactly how you expect it to be. Really nice environment just suits right for a dinner out :-)
Nisha Patel
Had the special $10 lunch. The burger was thick and juicy. So good!
Oliver Paul
Dined at Tony's with my partner and son, and thoroughly enjoyed the steak which I ordered and my partner had the spare ribs. Absolutely great service and a fantastic restaurant with a lot of menu options. Thank you for a great night.
Steph Jalfon
Totally overpriced, totally underwhelmed. Disappointing. Very old school food, but old school can be great if cooked with the right ingredients.OK so I'm not a steak lover but at $33 for dry chicken parmigiana with what seemed like dolmio sauce, bought oven chips and salad covered with nasty mayo I couldn't even eat a third of my meal. The placed was packed though, so the steaks must be good. I just feel that they have got lazy on quality.
Tiffany Miller
Got taken here for a date night with my man. Excellently cooked steak, wonderful service, nice drinks. We got seated in the window which was a bit tight for us but that was the only table free, which was worth the slight discomfort as it was a great meal.
RaeRae Johnson
A few years ago we stumbled onto Tony's by accident and were blown away by the fantastic meal, great service, and general ambience. Maybe we romanticised the memory of the night in the intervening period, but we finally went back there a week ago with very high expectations - and were sadly disappointed. We were put in the front booth area where the decor seemed a little tired, and as it turned out, the food was decidedly pedestrian. I don't know if the menu/chef/ownership has changed, but the meals we had there the first time were simply the best, whereas this time, it felt like cafe food at top prices. The service from the waitress was efficient and friendly, but sadly, I feel that the menu is over-priced and the food does not justify the prices.
George
By far one of the best value for money places - possibly in the whole world.. great staff great service - have been going there for the last 5 year and will continue to for a long time - highly recommended to anyone
Jennifer
My favourite place for eye fillet.
Since I'm a meat-lover I haven't tried any seafood meal here, but my friend who had it loved it.
I always have my steak as medium-rare, and it just melts in my mouth.
The meat is always very juicy and the shape always stays in a right place.

However, I got rid of one star because the staffs here was not always kind. And also, one of them wrote down the wrong menu and brought me with the wrong menu when I have repeated my order 3times and she still wrote down the different order. (Not sure what she was thinking).
It would be better if they train the staffs more properly
Laurie Ann Engels
First time dining at Tonys Restaurant and it was fantastic. Eye fillet cooked to perfection. We were looked after by the waitress and left feeling happy. Thank you for an enjoyable meal, will be back :-)
Phil
Four of us dined here a couple of weeks ago and all ordered steaks, the steaks were cooked perfectly, but we expected a little more for the price we paid. The waitress started off well, serving our drinks and checking our steaks...but after that we felt deserted, we were keen on ordering desert and another drink but the waitress was nowhere to be seen. On a whole we didn't let that spoil our night. We got up, paid and left.
Josie B
I like Tony's as a casual dining place - my favourite is the ribs. They're quite saucy and juicy and fall off the bone! Steaks here are pretty good too and service has always been friendly when I've been.
Thomas Douglas
Ribs are nice and staff were friendly!
Kym Vickery
This is my favourite restaurant; they do the best steaks. I can't fault this place. Our family has been many times; before show events at the Civic or just for birthday dinner or a nice night out. We have never had a bad dining experience here. We are looking forward to our next visit.
Hayden Do
Great restaurant, great food, great service. I enjoyed my t-bone steak "well done" and my friend also enjoyed her spaghetti.

Only downside was that the food took too long to come out.
Jess
Service was good and the food was great the nachos as entree were massive would def recommend they only problem was a huge group of ridiculously loud punters which kinda put us off the meal but still food was great :)
Tony McDonald
Food good service not so good
Duke_meko
Came here with my partner looking forward to some good steaks as we had read and heard good reviews from friends.
My partner enjoyed his medium scotch bernaise steak, but my "well done" steak came out pink and much to bloody for my liking. I would have sent it back but we had to meet up with other people after our meal and it already took a while for our food to come out. Surely a steak place would know what a well-done steak is??
Peter Bridger
Very pleasant staff great service. Excellent food quickly delivered. Will definitely be going back when ever going into city to see a show. Would recommend to all.
C Brown
Had dinner at Tony's last night before a show. Wow, was the place buzzing. The scallops I ordered were fab and I've not had a full dozen ever, so really good value. My partners filet mignon was also excellent. We didn't have time for dessert. We were impressed with the service and the staff attentiveness despite being so busy. Will definitely be back.
Brenda Bowden
I was really looking forward to the meal at this resturant and I ordered the carpetbag steak. Unfortunately the vegetables were cold and I had asked for the steak to be med/rare but it was really rare. I wasn't able to eat the meal and as we were going to a show there wasn't enough time to have another meal or a reheat. Sorry, I came to the resturant in the 60's , so was looking forward to it, was really disappointed.
Bartholomew N Trego
Went to Tony's last December for my birthday dinner. The whole experience was excellent. The staff were very helpful and informative. Had a cocktail of champagne and peach schnapps which was so refreshing. Then I ordered the seafood platter and my friend ordered a steak dish. I savoured every bit of seafood in the platter and I actually finished the whole dish hehe.. then we ordered a dessert which was so enjoyable. The decor was very interesting and it was very inviting and the old wooden interior makes it so unique. Will definitely go back:)
Chris
Went to Tony's before a theatre event and because of the mid-week Auckland traffic only ended up having 30 minutes. Checked with staff before hand and they were confident of being able to deliver. Service was really great and food outstanding and all done within the required time. Would go there again for a more leisurely meal.
Selina Chan
I like Tony's however my Tony's is the one in Henderson..I was a bit disappointed they didn't have their famous Banoffee here.

However there are plenty of other treats on the menu. I had their whitebait fritter for lunch and while I would say they are generous, and the booths are cosy I feel like somethings missing...
IAndEJohannisson
Food was OK,nothing special, Steaks were burnt and slightly over cooked,Tony's is not what it used to be. Service! well, what service? staff was friendly enough but, didn't know their job as waiters/waitresses. I believe my 15 year old would had done a better job than, the girl that just plonked our wine and two glasses at the end of the table and left, without a word, we had to check the bottle to see if it was our wine or someone ells.
We Will definitely not come back, we have had better meals and service at Pubs with much lower prices.
Owen Black
Without a doubt the best steak I have had in Auckland. Tony's proved to be a great place to take my girlfriend for our one year anniversary. The food was fantastic (and good sized portions), the staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive and the setting is just magic. I love this place and would recommend it to anyone.
Peter
Had a great meal while I was there in Auckland. The staff are all really friendly and helpful and good fun, and the food is amazing!! Try the Pacific Steak - stuffed with crab meat.

Don't worry about the other Tony's the original is the best!!
Alan Gordon
My wife and I wanted a simple night out and thought we'd give Tony's a go... what a delight. Quite busy even on a Tuesday, the lady who greeted us managed to get us a nice booth up the front of the restaurant (its much bigger than it looks from the street). Even though Tony's is known for its steak I had a craving for fish and chips, my wife was recommended a steak with scallops and gherkin all on a skewer. My fish and chips were exactly what i was after but I still got food envy from my wife's dish which looked amazing.
Well feed and well looked after, would definitely come back... and next time I must have steak
Winston
The steak my friend and i ordered was very bland. I asked for my steak to be cooked med rare and it came out well done. Food was so bad that we only had a few mouthfuls and decided to have desert elsewhere.
Margaret
The food was very good, my husband had steak and said it was one of the best. My chicken was very tasty. As for service, at first it was very good, the waitress was attentive and service was fast. However once we had finished our mains we were left with dirty plates for quite awhile, when they were finally removed they were whisked away and we were not asked if we wanted dessert, coffee or more drinks. We were left to sit again until I finally called out to a waitress as she rushed past. We ordered dessert, which was yummy, but we didn't stay around for anything else as it seemed such a struggle to get service. The staff that were on that night did not seem interested in selling what was on offer thereby missing out on revenue for the business. The food was wonderful though.
Linda
We have been to Tony's a few times over the past few years and it can be a bit hit and miss. But we like it because of its atmosphere and location. However, after going on Saturday night this will be the last time. The meal was below average, the fries and vegetables were only just warm. The service was friendly enough but there was definitely something missing from the Tony's we were use to. I mentioned the issue with the food to both the waitress and the lady on the till and it didn't seem to be an issue. I think if they want customers to come back, these issues need to be acknowledged rather than just saying "I will have a word to the chef".
Ash Wackrow
Very Very average. Big prices, okay food and poor service. Good atmosphere in the building but they drastically need to bring it up to par.
Kelly
Not much to say,..didn't enjoy this restaurant,..had a bad steak,..staff was not helpful.
Ian
Went here for lunch, my steak was good but my work colleague's one was terrible.
Service was average and quite slow.
Jayson Kingsbeer
Nice food at a reasonable price in a central location.
Peter Garelja
Four of us went to dinner here as it was close to the hotel we were staying in. We were all in the mood for a good hearty steak and for two of us it was the chance to re-visit a restaurant we had last been to at least 25 years ago. The steaks were all tasty and cooked to our individual requirements - just as we remembered was the case all those years ago. However, the accompanying vegetables or salads were very basic, not be-fitting the rather expensive prices for the meals. Expectations over the years have been raised in the food industry and Tony's needs to lift its game with its side dishes. The service was very friendly and attentive. We came here for the retro experience and in terms of decor and steaks we got this. However, for the prices charged some modernising and upgrading of the meals would not go astray.
Louisa Yau
Had THE worst experience in this highly recommended restaurant.

The steak was absolutely "perfect". As Tony's well known ability to make every meal a special one, they sure did a pretty good job in ruining my birthday dinner tonight.

I decided to try something out of the ordinary since it was my birthday so, Carpet Bag Steak it was. But what is Carpet Bag Steak without oysters, right? So, my compliments to the chef/ kitchen prep who managed to leave pieces of oyster shell in my steak!!

Special experience indeed. I didn't even stay for the cake my partner had arranged for me. We just left. Outrageous!!!

The lunch is excellent and well-priced.I also really enjoyed the dinner here and the Fillet Bernaise was excellent.I will definately go back. The staff were friendly and the service was efficient.
The lunches here are also reasonably priced and the menu variety is brilliant.
Janet
Tonys beatifull hospitality and beatiful food thanks tony's for a wonderful nite

This Restaurant is like a blast from the past! Unfortunately the public are abit more sophisticated now and our expectations are higher for presentation and food.

Our steak was cooked to our specifications,Med Rare, but was flavourless, I was chewing meat, but what meat and what taste? Also it wasn't tender, I chewed and chewed and chewed, then had to swallow, cause I couldn't chew through it.

At those sort of prices we expect good tender steak, with some flair with veges and potato. That's unfortunately not what we got.

Sorry I can't recommend this restaurant. There are better Steak restaurants around with melt in the mouth steak at similar prices. Time to raise your bar here, Tonys Wellesley St

Spent the night in Auckland @crown plaza hotel. Me & my partner went for a walk to see what we could eat. Didnt have to walk to far to turn up at tony's. Nice small cosy place reminded me of the TV show "cheers" The staff were really good but the food was really really nice. So nice I was still thinking about it the next day. I ordered the steak with bearnaise sauce & chips & my partner the seafood platter. It was beautiful. I prefer homecook meals but will have to say if im around in town again will definitely turn up to tony's unannounced

This my favourite restaurant in the whole wide world. My hubby & I had our 1st date here :) & we have been dining at Tony's for nearly 10yrs now...for birthdays, valentines day, anniversary or just a meal after work or before a movie. The place, the food, the service & the staff are absolutely awesome! We will keep coming to Tony's until we're old & grey hehehe. Our favourite dish is the Pacific steak...OMG it is to die for! you've gotta try it..I guarantee you'll love it as much as we do :) oh & by the way the cocktails are the best I've had in a long time..I had the fluffy duck & the pina colada mmmmm yummy!!! :)

Tony's is my favourite! I choose to have my birthday meal there every year (and a few in between). They cook beautiful food, especially the steak! Mmmmm mmmm.

The service is always great and the price is fair for the quality of the dining.

Had dinner here a few weeks ago with husband and a friend. Wonderful atmosphere - loved the small rooms as it felt cozy rather than huge. Meals were fantastic. Garlic prawns were a must. Will be back!
