Review Fish Restaurant - Auckland Central

Fancy place for any celebrations. Quality customer service and attention to details beyond expectations. Was a lovely night to have dinner in this cozy restaurant. Very well pleased with cleanliness and the toilet is an old style. Wood wall panels are unique and designs. Highly recommended šŸ‘ kudos to the team.

Went for breakfast. Called first to see if non -resident can walk-in for breakfast. On the other side of phone they advised you donā€™t need to book and can walk in for breakfast. There was bit of que as soon as we arrived. Greeted by Staff and they apologised for the wait. They said they need to check for space for 2, within seconds they came back and advised we do have some space available outside, which is what we want on this beautiful day. We sat down and Victor came with a warm smile and welcoming attitude and served us water. Before I go further I believe Victor should be one of your best staff. Vibes you get from him are so amazing and so comfortable like a grandpa (He is too young for that), his service is exceptional. Food was good well served. Very neat and tidy environment and benches. Refill was fast and with a smile. All staff members were smiling and greeting as they went passby. We gotup to get our food. Now placement of food was little confusing especially for the first timers and you have to go and check all corners to know what is served where. But after a while you get to know better. Well cooked food, scrambled eggs were creamy and moist. Bacon was soft juicy and still crispy. Good selection of breads and toppings. Chia pudding was out of this world with coconut cream, well thought. It seems like fruit yogurt was from supermarket because it was too sweet. However, selection served with it was great with nuts, blanched almonds, oats and sunflower seeds. Fresh cold press juice was good. Coffee served with it was freshly brewed. It was amazing experience. Victor walked to us and offered another cup of coffee, I donā€™t know how he read my mind , but thatā€™s exactly what I need to finish off my breakfast. Price was reasonable. Food was amazing, location and view was great and service was exceptional. Great job done by team. And special thanks to Victor.

Very delightful dinner, great service and atmosphere. We had the taste of fish set menu at $110 per person, it was worth of it! Will definitely back.

Great service from.the staff. Food was excellent. Great presentation. Even a bday dessert. Thank you!

Visited for the buffet breakfast was a lovely location with great views. The selection was good but not large. The hot section was great but the bacon and sausages were overly dry, unnecessarily. I liked the made to order menu which had fresh eggs and we ordered an omelette which was the highlight of our breakfast, so fresh and juicy. The tea was lovely and they used T2 brand which is great. The staff are so accommodating and very attentive to guests.

Best octopus I've ever had. The crayfish is incredible and the team at Fish even put together a plate to celebrate our anniversary

Very pleasant atmosphere with great food and discreet and excellent staff. Fool was right size and perfectly seasoned and very tasty. If you enjoy seafood or steak I would recommend it.

I absolutely loved my dining experience at FISH. The food was very good and clearly brought out a fancy, fine dining vibe to it. However some dishes displaying might not be photogenic enough for you if youā€™re in the group of ā€œposting pictures of yummy-looking food you ate on the social mediaā€, but the taste of their food really saves it all and indeed worth trying to be honest. Outstanding atmosphere and view. Super nice, friendly and thoughtful staff. There is literally nothing for me to complain about and I highly recommend this restaurant if you want to find an elegant, private and quiet place to dine at.

Went there for lunch today, lovely view of the harbour. very nice and quiet place. The food was nice and fresh. Chicken breast was so tender and crispy on the outside. The only downside was the waitress that served us had a very strong body odor that we can't ignore. But she was really lovely.

I had quite a good time today in the restaurant, i bring my mom go there for her birthday, and i just have a quick word talks about birthday, then ! When we finished our meal, we had a plate of cakeļ¼ i was shocked, and what is unbelievable thing is the staff they learn Mandarin words about happy birthday, and all come to sayšŸ˜ƒ What a wonderful day!

The food is just spectacular - I'm not a big beef fan but the beef wellington was so juicy and tender, the best I've ever had. The starters have a lot of flavour and use fresh ingredients, and the desserts are also great, sweet but not too sweet. Customer service is on par - the waiters are knowledgeable about the menu and are friendly. Only downside was the table next t to us the customers were scratching the plate with their knife & fork while eating, which hurt my ears. Overall the experience was still well worth it, we will be back.

Wow delicious Breakfast. Great view from outdoor tables. Food were freshly cooked. Reasonable price with lots of options to choose. Didnā€™t give a 5stars because waitstaff wasnā€™t friendly but everything else was great.

I love the wagyu entree, so yum šŸ˜‹. We're eating right next to the balcony, a lovely sea view. It's a nice venue for a big group to dine in.

Fish has a gorgeous location, and wall to ceiling glass windows to let you enjoy it. The interior is well decorated, with many different types of seating. We were there for breakfast, it is buffet style with warm dishes served at your table. There is plenty of choice from fruit to juices to pastries to yogurt to everything in between. The dishes are well created, our entire family enjoyed our visit.

Excellent service and wonderful location! Got to experience this lovely place thanks to First Table and what a delightful spot it's located in. Loved the whole sea theme downstairs with the ropes and all and soon as we headed up to the actual restaurant we were warmly greeted by a cheerful young man that was expecting us. He allowed us to choose our table (which I liked) and then began to go through the menu with us. Try and sit in the front rather than the side if you can. We found it much brighter and it had the best view! My girlfriend loved the fact they had her favourite drink from Argentina (Ferne). As we choose awaited our mains we took in the relaxing and picturesque view of the harbour and Rangitoto! We both had fish. Hers was salmon and I choose snapper. Was slightly disappointed that it was pretty much fish and chips with some fancy lettuce, but it was probably one of the finest ones I've had. The batter was very light and so soft and the fish was nice and meaty! She had a side of greens that the friendly French waiter suggested and was happy with those, although she said her Salmon was unfortunately a little too salty for her. And, she's a fan of salty food. It was meaty though and the dish was well presented. I quite enjoyed the crack pie dessert myself. Was yummy! All in all I enjoyed dining in this place. The view and service are top-notch. The food is also quite good :) Would love to return to sample more of this menu in the near future and maybe have some drinks over lunch and admire more of the view!

The view from the restaurant was stunning at sunset. We both had the foccacia bread as an entree followed by the eye fillet which was perfectly cooked. Dessert was shared - tiramisu and the creme brulee. Delicious meal and would definitely eat here again! Highly recommend the meg cocktail if you like a passionfruit sweet drink at bellini bar downstairs before dinner.

We stayed in so went for breakfast and dinner here. Both meals lovely. Staff lovely . Great views. Dinner menu lots of choices, breakfast not so much but what we had were both lovely

Finally went for the Serendipity High Tea on Sunday. The waiter was nice enough to go through the menu with us and explain that because of Level 2 restrictions everything would be table service. <br/>We noticed when we walked in that the food was already out on the buffet counter which needed up affecting the salads and made the leaves wilt.<br/>For $55 per person they serve you up to 2 pots of Zealong tea each and unlimited high tea items. <br/>I think if it weren't for level 2 we would have enjoyed it more because we would have been able to go and choose what we wanted. Felt a little bad that their were certain items on the trays that we didnt try.<br/>It was nice that we were able to reorder items we liked. Scones were served fresh from the oven which I really would have liked for the salads too.<br/>View was beautiful and it was just a nice experience for a Sunday.<br/>For an extra $20 per person you can get bottomless prosecco.

The best thing in this resto is their food!!! I love the taste of their steak (my personal favourite), and would definitely go back again for more! Everything was delectable! From the entree to the mains and dessert! Itā€™s my first time trying that dessert, and itā€™s heavenly! We were also seated near the glass wall, overlooking the Auckland Harbour. We enjoyed our lunch while watching the boats and ferries pass by. Itā€™s very relaxing. The staff were very attentive and we never felt rushed.

Honestly for a fancy place - it is not very fancy. Despite that, food was nice (though overpriced). I liked the tuna entree. Service was amazing though, simply spot on.

View was fantastic. The kumara sourdough was great to start with. Queen crab was already cut so easy to eat. Everything was perfect. Amazing staff.

One of the best dining experiences I've had, staff were great and knowledgeable. The food highlighted NZ seafood perfectly and the location was very nice too.

Strongly recommend!<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Food:5/5<br/>Environment:4.5/5<br/>Came here for dinner, wasn't a busy night. Food quality is high. Both oyster and fish are very fresh.<br/>Service is one of the best in Auckland. Would definitely visit again!

BJ was our server and he was absolutely beyond expectations, so lovely and made great conversations with us. We made sure to give him a nice tip he deserved it, made our night so much more enjoyable + the food was amazing I highly recommend this place.
Joana Arriaga
Absolutely amazing. Lamb melts and it is beautifully cooked, the tooth fish even though it is not amazingly plated, all the flavours in the dish blend together and they make a party in your mouth. Less good, the lobster as main is a 100% kiwi dish. Too much sauce for a nice piece of lobster. The starters needed a little bit more flavouring, except from the crab where the broth was cooked to perfection. The deserts.. To die for. We had the crack tart and the chocolate mousse. Divine. And the cherry on top? The service! Jacob took his time to help us with the wine choices, to explain the dishes and was really knowledgeable. A night to repeat! The true review should be a 4.5, but that option doesn't exist. It just doesn't take the 5 star because of details but it is definitely close!

One of my favorite restaurant in Auckland. <br/>1. I love their view. Especially at just before sun set in the summer. <br/>2. Main Food was like šŸ‘‹šŸ»šŸ‘‹šŸ¾šŸ˜¬<br/>But!! Must try their entree menu called Queen crab. <br/>I used a Spoon for a last drop of Soup under crab. Sooooooooo good. šŸ‘šŸ»<br/>3. Most of all, i have to talk about deserts. <br/>Valrhona chocolate mouse with glass of pinot noir was the most orgasmic experience of my tongue. <br/>4. So boring for their wine list. Almost same for 2years. Come on..itā€™s Hilton right?šŸ¤Ø

Very nice restaurant within Hilton Hotel. Great location, speechless views, nice food, wide wine selections and great services. Great place for special occasions.

Great restaurant and beautiful view located in Hilton hotel. Staff are nice and friendly. Definitely come back with my family again. Thanks.

Love this place for fine dining. Ā The restaurant is very elegant with sea/water view. Ā Also you get a nice view of the city and the "Cloud". Ā The service was very good and the seafood was very well cooked and yummy. Ā All in all I'd give this place a 5/5.<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Food Quality: 5/5<br/>Food Quantity: 4/5<br/>Presentation: 5/5<br/>Environment: 5/5<br/>Price: 4/5

awesome view with great food. I went to the place with my family. They all loved their dishes. I loved the lamb dish especially. and the dessert was also fabulous. staff was friendly.

Fantastic service! The food was fresh, the wine was flowing & stunning views. A great night out to celebrate my mum's retirement, and she was definitely made to feel special....highly recommended and I will return again!
Louise
Had a lovely experience here, the view from every seat is absolutely amazing during the sunset and you can definitely get some really nice gram shots!<br/><br/>The food was great, however as we used first tables, it excludes all the dishes including crayfish so we were unable to get the full experience and try all the different dishes. If youā€™re not a big fan of chocolate you might find desserts a little tricky, as all the desserts (besides the cheeseboard (?) ) had chocolate in it.<br/><br/>The service was good, there was one waiter who had to serve an entire room of customers and not once did we feel like we had gotten lesser service than any other restaurant. <br/><br/>Ambience: 5/5<br/>Food: 4/5<br/>Service: 5/5

One of the best dining experiences I have had in a long time! The service was impeccable & the the restaurant went above and beyond to cater to our needs including a complimentary dessert for my mum for her birthday. The crayfish mac n cheese and clams were delicious as well as the tataki! Highly recommend! also had the truffle fries, salmon and lamb and all were great! The restaurant itself was beautiful in the interior and the view also! Also had the pear tart and crack pie for dessert and they were both great!! 5 stars!

Food was absolutely beautiful. We ordered the oysters, the kahawai tataki, lamb belly and salmon. The service was amazing and our waiter was absolutely lovelyy

Very nice atmosphere, staffs are friendly. We ordered oysters, raw market fish oka and tiger prawns as starter. Oysters are super fresh and meaty , we also love the flavour of the fish oka. The tiger prawns was very salty tho. For the mains, we had lamb belly and scotch fillet, both of them were delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed the whole dining experience.

Excellent harbor view and great ambience. Food was great and very well presented. The majority dishes were well cooked and flavored. <br/>The oysters were not very fresh. But I wasnā€™t too fussed because it was on a specials set menu.<br/>P.S. Parking can be very expensive there.

THEY CANCELLED MY BOOKING ON VALENTINE'S DAY<br/><br/>My partner and I booked our Valentine's Day Dinner via a first table (which provide a great service BTW) at Fish for 14/02 at 5:30 PM on the 8th of Feb.<br/>We have received a confirmation from First Table and from Fish Restaurant about our booking.<br/>On 11/02 I received ONE call from Fish that I could not answer because I was driving. I called them back 28 minutes after and no one answered.<br/>I thought they (Fish) were just trying to confirm my booking. They NEVER tried to call me again.<br/>I was super excited to go there with my partner. By the photos, it was a very romantic place and it would be perfect to celebrate Valentine's day. I've planned what we would order, imaged both of us there looking at the ocean and having a nice moment together. So many expectations.<br/>On the 14th of Feb, Valentine's day we arrived at the restaurant at 5:15 PM. The manager received us at the entrance and straight away advised we could no longer redeem our First Table booking (that was scheduled for that specific day and time) that night because they had a set menu for Valentine's day. I was hoping he would offer us the set menu and let us use the voucher for the day and time we have booked for. It did not happen.Ā <br/>After all my expectations, plans and etc my partner and I went walking on the streets to find a restaurant that was not fully booked.<br/>I was so so so so disappointed with Fish Restaurant. They messed up with our Valentine's day. They did not e-mail me to cancel (they actually e-mailed me on the day confirming the booking), they did not txt me, they did not try to call me again (the manager said they tried to call multiple time, which was not true because I can prove they called me just once). They let us go there to say on our faces we no longer could redeem our booking. It is extremely unprofessional and sad. It was not about money, it is about people's feeling and respect.

Came to the fish restaurant with my partner to celebrate Valentineā€™s Day. It was great. The food was absolutely amazing, service was great. Very friendly staff. Me and my partner enjoyed thoroughly. Oh! And yes the views are mind blowing. Definitely coming back for more amazing time.

Lovely view, fantastic food, nice service. I live next to Hilton,so I always came here with family for dinner. my daughter loves the crayfish mac n cheese best. Every dish are fresh and cooking well.

FISH is actually located within the Hilton Hotel which is at the very end of Princes Wharf, gotta go for a bit of a walk to get there, it's a nice walk though. The restaurant interior and decor is very nice, situated on the first floor of the Hilton hotel, you can get a pretty nice view out into the harbour, day or night, I prefer this place at night because you get to see the Cloud on the opposite side lit up, and some city line views which really adds to the ambience.<br/><br/>Food here is ... top notch. Presentation is on point, can't really complain about the service either, very attentive staff who are knowledgeable about their menu. Food itself also tastes very good, I really liked their kingfish bites (which were complimentary) and the queen crab (there was so much flavour in these it's hard to believe. My got the fish and chips for my main and that was just ok, maybe I'll try something else next time but it definitely wasn't bad.<br/><br/>So this is definitely a place for a fancy date or you just some privacy and quiet dining, because as opposed to a lot of other fine dining joints in Auckland, FISH is actually pretty low key, so you don't feel like a crowd eating here.

First Time Visiting On 26/12/2018 To Celebrate The Brother's Birthday. All I Can Say For Now Is That I Will Be Back Again Soon. lol . Everything that we ordered were above expectations. Team there were very friendly as well.

Fantastic view and beautiful foods. Staff are friendly and helpful. They made our Saturday lunch moment special and gorgeous. We had fish oka for entrees, salmon and fish tatami for main. I love their sauce which is a unique taste but totally match with the ingredients. Highly recommend.

Had the $88?89? 3 course meal for lunch. The food was delicious and filling, but in my opinion you pay for the view more so than the food. Although everything was nice, the mood was even better; tranquil and quiet whilst overlooking the harbour. Haven't tried but I saw that there was a cheaper $29 express 3 course lunch meal as well.

The place is amazing been here a lot of times, and the bar downstairs is a great place to relax before going to dinner or after.<br/>The waiters and staff are very helpful and friendly,<br/>The food is amazing but you must try the toothfish it is so good!!<br/>Always looking forward to go again :)

I would have rated this place a 5 if we hadn't order the french fries. Everything was great, especially the fresh oysters. Our waiter told us they are from Waiheke and they were absolutely perfect match with their apple granite. We ordered 4 pieces to start with and ended up ordering another 4 more. Mains were good but nothing surprising. The portion were really small just like most fine dining. Therefore we decided to order some french fries that gave a big deduction point. Perhaps I shouldn't have expected them to be handcut as it didn't mention on the menu but hey it shouldn't be just like those you bought from the frozen isn't it?! The fries you get from McDonald's are probably better. Service were great as you can expect from places like this and they surely have a great view.

Not as impressed as I thought I would be with this restaurant but it was still great. Wonderful service and great location over looking the harbour. I do think the food is a bit over priced compared to other similar restaurants in the area. We shared the bread and brown butter to start it was nice, the brown butter was delicious. Everyone else had an entree to start and said they were all great. For main I had the crayfish tail. It was good but not wow like I thought it would be especially for the price. It lacked much flavour and was really just a piece of crayfish with a few plain potatoes and plain fennel? Didn't seem too inspired. I tried my husband's salmon dish, it was incredible, I definitely had food envy. For desert I had the pear tart, it had wonderful flavours.

This place is absolutely worth trying.<br/><br/>The Char siu toothfish with braised silverbeet and barbequed onions is probably the best fish dish Iā€™ve ever tried. <br/><br/>My mom had the Bouillabaisse and loved it, the broth that came with it was very tasty.<br/><br/>We also tried the mushroom rissotto which was incredible in taste and texture.<br/><br/>The simplicity of the tiger shrimp was surprising as it was so delicious. Same with the salt and pepper squid.<br/><br/>Everything tasted outstandingly fresh!<br/><br/>Wish we would have had space for dessert. <br/><br/>Will definitely going back to FISH restaurant, I highly recommend it for the exquisite quality of the food, remarkable service, and beautiful waterfront views.

Amazing service, ambience and food. The restaurant lives up to their name by serving a variety of seafood items. Sashimi is a must try.. soo fresh! Beautifully presented main dishes. We had the flounder and the charsiu fish... yumm! Their wine selections are excellent too. Nice place to go on a date or for a intimate catchup. Worth to checkout!

Seafood fine dining heaven! Came here with the hubby and in laws and upon entry we were blown away by the water views. Stunning! The service was professional and the setting absolutely gorgeous. I ordered the crayfish and queen crab and my I cant wait to come back and try the rest. My dad in law raved about his steak and snapper too. Did I also mention you get free valet parking from Hilton Hotel when you dine here?

Went here for a random weekday late lunch. It was quite empty due to the lateness so service was amazing and helpful. They were flexible when we asked for a few changes to the dishes and did it with a smile. Stunning view of a harbour and absolutely delicious food. I had the Mac n cheese that everyone raves on about and while itā€™s lovely, donā€™t think itā€™s the best use of crayfish and not really worth the price. Everything else on the menu we had was delicious so you donā€™t need to pay that much for awesomeness!
Iluvpoke1999
This is a long overdue review. We went there in November last year. Had a high expectation before we went because of its fame and location. Yet the experience was fairly disappointing. <br/><br/>We didnā€™t feel welcome when we reached the place, no greeting and no smile. Itā€™s not the kind of service you would expect from a place like this. The waitresses were a bit arrogant I have to say. And I hate saying this, but I definitely saw a different attitude when the waitresses talked to us and other local guests. This is awful. <br/><br/>The food was ok. But I could certainly find something better in Melbourne, with cheaper price and better service. <br/><br/>Once again, this should not be the service I get from a restaurant in Hilton. Not worth the price and I would not recommend any of my friends to go.
Sam Aickin
Great view, nice ambience, good service. Unfortunately the food was rubbish and extremely overpriced. Sashimi arrived with soy sauce and wasabi ($54). It was not as good as Sashimi at St Pierre's sushi in the mall...<br/><br/>Oysters were full of broken shell. They were accompanied by a very average horseradish sauce that made no sense.<br/><br/>Crayfish was overcooked and came with an extremely underwhelming side of roasted potatoes....<br/><br/>$250 poorer, I took my wife home where she enjoyed a much more satisfying can of tuna.<br/><br/>Would not recommend.<br/>
Chuling Jiang
I love the clams and the crayfish. <br/><br/>Food and environment are good. However, the service can't meet the standards for a fine dining restaurant. Try to hire more professional staff and I will come back.

Nice food and nice view! The waiter recommended tooth fish to us, mouth feel was interesting, not like regular fish teast in my brain but we really like it.

Fish is our go-to for breakfasts out because of the variety of food and excellent service. Each time has been wonderful to visit. We came as a party of 10 on Mothers day and it was absolutely bursting, even at 9! We were treated to the private dining room and it offered fantastic views over the Waitemata Harbour. The decor keeps changing which makes sure you never get bored (how could you!) It's lovely, airy and spacious The breakfast buffet is loaded with many varieties of food, including hot, cold, deli, pastries and even Chinese food. I really enjoyed the dumplings, the pastries were up to their high standard and the smoothie and shot selections are great to kickstart your morning. The spirulina shot was missing which was sad because that is spectacular. Janaka, the manager was really helpful, despite the number of people. Overall, a fantastic breakfast and Fish didn't disappoint once again. Would love to come back to try the lunch and dinner menu.

Good place for fine dining. The food is good and the service is prompt. The Fish and Chips was perfectly cooked. Duck was over cooked but the creamy risotto made it a winner. Great setup of the restaurant and picturesque Harbour View.

Had a really awesome dinner here yesterday.Ā <br/><br/>The location is great, good water views and the interior is very clean with good decorations. The waiters also good, wait times aren't too long.<br/><br/>The food was easily 10/10, my lamb was perfect, tried the pork belly and salmon too which were also cooked perfectly. Portion sizes for mains are small (to be expected as its a fancy restaurant,) so good to order with sides, which were also great.<br/><br/>Would go back for a special occasion.
PK
This place has a magnificent view. WE had lunch on a very nice warm sunny day. The service was really good and prompt. The dishes of gnocchi and Farm 84 heirloom tomato, burrata were very nice. The Gnocchi was fluffy and full of flavours.<br/>The mains of the fish and chips was a big service but was scrumptious and the Salmon was a much smaller dish but was full of zest and moist.<br/>Highlight were the desserts which were presented amazingly well which were the Valrhona chocolate mousse and the White chocolate which was sweet.<br/>Amazing place with amazing view and excellent food. We always enjoy our meals here.
Jeffie
Came for a special occasion and we were keen on the set menu and they have their Volvo Ocean Race menu on so we gave it a try.<br/><br/>Initial impression wasn't good, the steps leading up to the restaurant were filthy, disappointing for a place such as the Hilton. Service is nice and friendly, a bit slow considering the place wasn't even half full and I take into consideration our waiter wasn't a from here but he didn't understand us when we asked for a cc & dry and a g & t. I found that a bit strange and had to explain what those drinks were and what went into them.<br/>The runner from the kitchen was very polite, friendly and always had a big smile on her face when she came to our table, that was nice.<br/><br/>The ambience is nice, we sat right next to the glass wall/windows which weren't clean and the place is relatively quiet so we had to whisper our conversation for the night.<br/><br/>All of the food came out in good time and again was just nice, nothing with wow factor though, it all seemed like straight forward dishes, if anything it was overpriced for what we got compared to other set menus around the city. But I guess rates are high being on the water.<br/><br/>Not necessarily a bad experience but not a great one either.

My impression on Fish wasn't great & that dissuaded me from returning for years. Today my wife & I had a lunch at Fish. Pork cheek croquettes went really well with pickled mustard & baby gherkin mayonnaise. Snapper & chips were lovely - absolutely well-prepared & cooked. My wife's salmon was nicely-cooked with char-roasted cauliflower. Dessert was roasted peach, schnapps jelly & Tonka bean ice cream - everything was of the highest order, positively.<br/>(Food - 4.5/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience - 4.5/5)<br/>Visited on 19 Mar 2018

Love the location! Dinner and a view really makes the experience at fish worth. Dine in during the sunset you can take photos with the harbour bridge or Rangitoto in the background. Fish is more of a fine dining restaurant. If you expect to be full you may want to order a lot more. The food is great and presentation is amazing. The service from our waitress could've been a bit more attentive to our table. I booked for a birthday dinner and although the night was pretty long it was made up with a complimentary dessert which was very sweet.

Came in for Valentine's day a few years ago.<br/>Dessert was the best part of the meal. Salted caramel tasted amazing and would highly recommend it. Prawn and soba noodles were okay. Salmon was also delicious. Great environment to be in and also had a great view.

2nd time here, the ambiance is great here. Quiet and beautiful views. Like going here than the viaduct area because it's too noisy at there. Prawns were cooked to perfection and the sourdough bread was delicious. Was a little disappoint with the fish and chip. More of a English styled fish, with a dark batter. My personal preference is a lighter fluffy batter fish. The chips were adequate. Nothing to rave about, definitely not up to duck fat chips level.

good food and friendly staff. Had raw fish and beef tartare which tasted very nice. Fraser's choice - fish of the day(?) was awesome. However, taupo grass fed eye fillet was not cooked as ordered - medium rear, but it was close to medium well. The meat was still tender and tasted good tho.

Book a table here through First Table. <br/><br/>We had the pork croquettes to start which had four pieces of bite sized portions and salad. It was tasty but perhaps not the right choice if you are looking for big portions. <br/><br/>I ordered the eye fillet which was cooked perfectly and was very soft. My partner had the rump which was a bit more chewy but as you would expect for that cut of meat. The mains also come with your choice of sauce and sides. I picked the peppercorn sauce which was excellent. As for the sides, we each picked roasted baby potatoes and sweet potatoes to share, which came in generous portions but were rather bland. <br/><br/>Overall it was a good experience; staff were friendly and the view was great. However I would not consider the full price to be very good value as I was a bit disappointed by the entree and the sides could have been done better for what is perceived to be an upmarket restaurant. Good deal with First Table though. <br/>

The restaurant experience is ruined by the hotel's negligent reception. When you walk into such joints, it's not just the restaurant but also the whole luxury shebang that unsuspecting folks expect, but one can almost visualize this Hilton's mostly hapless staff chortling at the suckers who harbour such delusions. Auckland's "5 star" hotel service standards are notoriously dodgy or even absent, and Hilton tries to outdo Langham (now called Cordis) in trying to provide as hollow an experience as possible upon entry. If you feel service deserves such short change, why work in the hospitality industry at all ? Lack of staff ensures that the one person at the entrance is running all around to "manage" the incoming vehicles, and if you do manage to speak to him, expect some quick hurried replies. As for pleasantries like "How are you, Sir?" or an inviting smile or even some impossibly atrocious thing like a pampering welcome, forget it. We found free parking right in front of the hotel, so yeah a massive triumph there.Ā <br/><br/>They've installed who looks like a college student at the restaurant reception. Again zero niceties of welcome or a smile - just checking the name and leading you to the table - like a train conductor doing the checks. At-the-table service was better, by a young French gentleman who also recommended a 2014 Peregrine Pinot Noir the slim mouthfeel of which had such beautifully concentrated richness that no other pinot noir in our recent tastings has bested this. The same brand's 2017 Rose, also seconded by him, was delightfully refreshing without undue sweetness. <br/><br/>FISH has the advantage of 180 degree views of the ocean and a wonderful deck to enjoy the superb waterside views. The restaurant however betrays its name by having only one proper pan-finished/grilled/baked fish dish on the main course (the others being fish-'n'-chips, and a clam presentation). Radical tip to staff - we know NZ , Aus and UK love fush-'n'-chups from ages but please try leaving out such heart-rending nostalgia on a formal restaurant menu. <br/><br/>Banana prawns as appetizers were excellent in their ripely tropical yet mellow flavour and tenderness, but a nice lady in our group was served a pathetically small 'helping' of kingfish tartare, as an appetizer, that had phantom flavour. My companions were happy with the cooking of the lamb main, and my chicken main was superbly tender by its sous-vide treatment but secondary layers of flavours - for example sauces or seasoning - to further lift the dishes were found wanting. Desserts, from an adventurous lemon-'n'-poppy seed cake, frozen yoghurt and olive oil, to a strawberry-white chocolate number to a banana-tapioca pudding, were all enjoyable. A three course meal costs a reasonable $80 per person. If they fire the managers all over this place and replace them with people who know how to treat patrons, then this 'Hilton' brand may get some much-needed value back.

I have been there to celebrate my birthday. The service was very good and i love the sea views. Ordered risotto, salmon and lamb. Taste was excellent and come with good portion. Love this place.

Fish and chips is delicious - nice ambience even though it seems a little understaffed. Will be back for more great seafood but tempted to try the meats too.

Beautiful surroundings. Ordered some nice oysters, $5 ea however quite small size for a $5. Ordered the medium cooked Taupo eye fillet for myself but when it was on the table it was more than medium already. Enjoyed the Sweet potato side, had a bit of saffron on it which was a surprise. 6 people shared the $350 bill which is a reasonable price. At least I was not very happy with the free VP parking that advertised on the website, when we got there, all Free parking was already gone. Then we had a look around, actually very limited number of free parking is available. 80% of the customers actually will have to pay their own parking at Wilson parking, approximately $20-30 xtra parking fee for a dinner.

Views and atmosphere were amazing, and so was service. The waitress who served us was so nice and caring, coming to check up on us to ensure everything was already. Amazing food. We ordered the banana prawn dish and salmon dish that were cooked to perfection. Would definitely come again!

Was our first time eating at this restaurant and we had a wonderful experience. We ordered the lamb rump, market fish and the scotch fillet. All dishes looked and tasted excellent- as we were expecting. Would recommend to try the lamb rump, the meat was so well cooked and the flavours were amazing! <br/>The decor at FISH is lovely as it is overlooking the water. They had a couple of functions and so the food came out a little later than we hoped but we didnā€™t mind much as the service, especially by Prateek was excellent. Will surely be back again soon to try the other dishes on the menu.

Lovely setting, attentive staff and very yummy food prepared and served at our table by our excellent chef, Fraser. The only one little disappointing thing was that the Hilton wanted to charge $45 to park the car!!

Me and my friend grabbed a deal off grab one and had a beautiful lunch looking out from the sunny deck. <br/><br/>It seemed like they had a special menu for the deal customers. <br/><br/>I had a king prawn salad, followed by lamb for a main. You needed to pay a little extra on top of the voucher for couple of the dishes (slightly more expensive option I suppose) but I definitely preferred it rather than being limited on what I can eat. <br/><br/>I never thought about going somewhere fine dining like this for lunch, but it was so relaxing and enjoyable. I would definitely love to come back again.

Really enjoyed my experience with Fish. It has a really classy feel and would be perfect for a special occasion or romantic date, particularly at sunset. <br/><br/>We booked a First Table reservation and the waitress that seated us was very friendly and welcoming which was an excellent start. The other servers for the rest of the night were fine but not quite as friendly in comparison. <br/><br/>We started off with the bread, and then each of us had a main with a sweet potatoes side to share, then three desserts. We all enjoyed our dishes and I found the gnocchi particularly delicious. It was just the right soft consistency that I enjoy. The sweet potatoes were also really good and a decent serving. <br/><br/>I really enjoyed my white chocolate and sorbet dessert. It was definitely my favourite of the three we got (also got the banana topioca one and hokey pokey sundae). The white chocolate cream had great milky taste similar to condensed milked, but not as sweet. <br/><br/>Overall it was a great night and particularly great value with the discount.

Went there for lunch today, lovely view of the harbour. very nice and quiet place. The food was nice and fresh. Chicken breast was so tender and crispy on the outside. The only downside was the waitress that served us had a very strong body odor that we can't ignore. But she was really lovely.

Was invited for a set menu, the raw salmon was beautifully presented with reductions, freeze dried white stuff but it was all pretty bland, simple soy and wasabi still tastes better. Ā Friend was a vegan so they gave her grilled vege instead of salmon, which was very bland. Ā Main of fish was again beautifully presented but lacked flavor. Dessert of liquid nitrogen frozen ice cream presented by live chef looked beautiful but again lacked flavor, simple italian gelato tastess better. Ā So I sense a pattern. Also I dont know Simon Gault personally but not a fan by the way he treated his temporary staff on a TV show he was on. Seems like a small man trying to copy molecular gastronomy from overseas. the view is spectacular though.

Food presentation and food quality were pretty good except their customer service seriously disappointed me. We bought a voucher through a website to have discounted food dine in here. We requested for a joined table and then a middle age beard white guy came along and rejected our request (with very impatient face)and started blaming that it was our wrong to come late. We seriously don't know what did we do wrong and it was actually my friend's 21st birthday. Friendly advice, if you don't want your birthday to be ruined, don't choose here. (Ps: it was just one of the staff (suited up) that being so rude to us, others were really friendly).

Not bad at all! Was quite impressed with the quality of food and the service. Their steak was well cooked and I really enjoyed it. Would go again šŸ‘šŸ»

Amazing service and staff extremely professinal. Valet parking is a plus. Food was definitely amazing and well presented. I hope they bring the big steak back soon though.

Delicately designed, Fish by Hilton is a keeper for your special treat, for an anniversary celebration, for your business dinner or just come and dine for rewarding yourself.<br/><br/>Walking in this space I was completely captured by the whole ceiling of wine cabinet, its soft ambience reflecting the prince wharf at night time and of course the modern fire place that brought us coziness. You would not feel nervous in this classy five star hotel restaurant. You feel immediately set in like your friends' lounge.<br/><br/>Yes the Chef is another reason I came here. Since when has everybody started to love celebrity chefs? It does become a trendy thing. As it is known to all, Fraser Shenton runs the kitchen under group chef Gareth Stewart (ex Soul chef and Bistro Lago in Hilton Lake Taupo).Ā <br/><br/>The day we visited was the first night they started the new season menu. So I was told Chef Gareth was right in the kitchen guarantee the dish qualities by a well-knowledged waiter from Bulgaria, he gave us beautiful advice to order the house wine which turned out nicely.<br/><br/>I just could not help praising the new menu, more fish and seafood options and with a twist of Asian cooking technique and flavor. Well done!<br/><br/>To start the Te Kouma Bay oyster was such a delight. it came our freshly on a few stones, expressed its marine freshness. Then the tarakihi sashimi, paring creme fraiche, lime and sourdough croutons was beautifully presented. However, when the Warm South Island salmon, dashi broth, ginger rice, pickled radish, soba noodles came into vision we both fell deeply amazed. A brilliant and light way to balance the fatty salmon, transferring it into an authentic fresh Japanese fish dish, the red fish, lightly green beans with soba noodles immersed in dashing broth, we couldn't have it enough until the whole plate was cleaned by our greedy appetite!<br/><br/>Then the highlight came to me, Chef Gareth came to my table and had a chat with me, expressing the menu and his idea behind it. Absolutely a icing on the cake for me. Much appreciated for his time sparing and it made us privileged.<br/><br/>As for the main, we were still keen for the fish&seafood concept. How can you resist fish dish in a restaurant called FISH! My daily caught Gurnard was such a treat for this night. With ham and barley broth, savoy cabbage, white beans, winter herbs pairing the nicely cooked gurnard, it did, again, bring out freshness from Asian twist. I do love the way they cook with broth to soften the buttery taste of fish cooked in western Ā way. The fried kale was such a fun to eat with the dish. Then came the grilled banana prawns, gremolata, crispy pancetta, soft herbs, it was another well-worthing treat for the night. Imported jumbo banana prawns' texture were completely brought out by the Italian sauce with parsley garlic and lemon, while on the other hand, the crispy pancetta added more flavor layers to the whole plate. Once again it was fully swiped by us!<br/><br/>Eventually the dessert session was a bit less attracted though. Valrhona chocolate mousse<br/>cocoa nib soil, poached cherries, kirsch, cherry sorbet was 4 out 5, however, the lemon poppyseed cake was a bit dry for me. The frozen buffalo yogurt, lychee was a save to the whole plate. In total this dessert should be 3 out of 5. I did expect more for the dessert though. With Nevis Bluff Pinot Gris ā€“ Central Otago 2013 and Forrest ā€“ Marlborough 2011, the dessert became more vivid in our tastebuds.<br/><br/>Worth coming back from time to time, for the sake of Chef Gareth Steward. So looking forward to a better refined Fish into the future.

We first dined at fish restaurant almost four years ago and were wowed by the experience. True fine dining. Food was great; the flavours were complex; staff were truely professional and well presented. We still talk about the chacolate fondant we had from time to time with fond memory. Last weekend was the 4th or 5th time we had dinner there. Somehow it has lost that wow factor. Food is pretty good, nothing wrong, but just not on the same level. A bit one dimensional, instead of different layers of flavours. The background music had that heavy beat and wasn't really ideal for a relaxing dining experience. The gap between 2 courses is too short, ten minutes at most. Bang bang bang! If we didn't order a cheese board after desert, we would have finished our dinner in an hour and half! It's a good restaurant but we wouldn't call it fine dining. It's a shame really. You have great location, great setup, etc. We hope you will improve and we will be happy to dine there again in the near future.

I've been here for business and for personal visits and it stands up to my service test everytime. Great service and amazing food. We celebrated our Wedding AnniverssaryĀ (1-11-) there once and it feel on the weekend so we got the fireeworks display from the best seat on the balcony with whitebait fritters, Lobster and Champagne - the guy fawkes display as by luck, the great service and amazing food was by good management.

Came here for ab anniversary dinner. The restaurant is beautiful, next to pier. Atmosphere was very nice. The service was awesome! We got some bread and butter to start with then the mackerel taco. I got a crayfish mac and cheese and my partner got the grilled hapuka. We have complaints. Flavor was spot on service was spot on everything was awesome!

Review 21-04-2018<br/><br/>What a disappointment tonight. Although service was good the food was so underwhelming . The sirloin steak $52 was cooked well instead of medium rare and you could tell it wasnā€™t cooked properly because the fat was so hard and not softened. The chocolate dome was not good at all and the banana looked just raw not grilled . Really donā€™t know if weā€™ll be back again for a long long time . Service was great šŸ‘ <br/>Previous review:<br/><br/>Been here on numerous occasions for Lunch and Dinner. The menu does change seasonally but the food is always good.Ā <br/><br/>Wonderful views, you're literally sitting in above the sea, and the decor is white and clean.<br/><br/>Worth a visit.

Came here for the New Year's Eve dinner- six course set menu. Everything started off well, except they were still preparing our table when we walked in (why we couldn't get another table with the same number of seats I don't know). Our waiter was very informative and lovely. He asked about special requirements (we had a gluten free person) and was very helpful, saying he would let the kitchen know. We were confused about the drinks situation- we did not receive a drinks menu, yet people were ordering drinks. There was an alcohol bar at the middle of the restaurant that the waiters poured our champagne. No one offered us anything other than champagne. <br/><br/>The food was amazing, almost faultless. However it came out too quickly. We were out in less than two hours- the wait staff did not ask if we wanted more time between courses, they just kept bringing plates out. We were annoyed that a dish with gluten came out, even though the waiter said he would take care of this. Our amuse was served at the wrong time (one course late) and a waitress dumped potatoes and salad on our table as we were finishing our mains without specifying why- we didn't order them and they weren't on the menu. But we finished with an amazing desert. <br/><br/>Great food but the night felt a bit disjointed- wait staff were mostly quite young and it felt like they were not well-informed and didn't really know what was going on.

Went there with BF for dinner<br/>Most of customer dining on the night was tourism, kids playing outside which was a bit a bit unpleasant.<br/>Food was mostly lovely, bread and entree was fantastic, my fish was overcooked, with a soft skin, I thought fish cook like that should be a nice crispy skin. dessert we had the pana cotta, pudding was too set and too hard for a pana cotta, otherwise everything was good. <br/>Front stuff really friendly and helpful , but with a restaurant scored like this I do think they need to be trained more.....<br/>

My partner took me here for my birthday and we got a seat next to the window. The view of the ocean was absolutely stunning on the sunny day. If you come here for lunch then I would highly recommend requesting for a seat near the window. I had the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. Not over or under cooked whilst maintaining the perfect amount of moisture. The service was okay. Didn't get much attention or anything but it wasn't bad
Donna&Shane
Lovely restaurant with gorgeous relaxing views. The service was good although could be abit more attentive, refilling our glasses and taking our order before we get the bread and butter. Little things that went un noticed: our table wobbled and our candle went out- it did get abit dark around the table. After eating our first courses we saw the table next to us get a complimentary chef sample which we didn't get so I asked about that and I'm glad I did when we did get it, it was a crumbed oyster absolutely delicious. The salmon was ok the skin on the plate was rubbery and the other "decorations" on the plate seem pointless but the scampi was delicious as were the oysters. The red shrimp was ok but the monkfish was delicious and the baked purƩe potato with bacon butter yummy. All 3 desserts were really nice too.

We don't eat seafood so going to a restaurant with a major focus on seafood would seem like an odd choice - there is a long back story, and to be perfectly honest, Fish was not actually our choice due to the strong seafood menu. We ended up booked there after another unrelated restaurant screwed up our booking and had to accommodate us elsewhere. As it was, we ended up eating the vegetarian entree and main. The entree was really enjoyable, but the main was disappointing for such a prestigious restaurant. Our awesome waiter asked us how the meals were, and we gave him honest feedback about the main, not in a nasty way, but just told the truth and said that we weren't too impressed. Straight-away he offered us dessert on the house which we were not expecting, but what a great response to a customer's disappointing meal. Unfortunately we did not get our waiter's name, because I'd love to give him a shout out for providing such professional service, and turning a disappointing meal around.

Awesome. Great view and dining experiences. Food is great! Grilled fish is awesome crispy and juicy! Salmon also great! Fresh and yummy! Love here!

The views are great of the harbour Ā from just about every table and its all very modern and fresh. The main meal was well presented and the flavours very well balanced. We were also served a spoon treat which was a nice touch. The service was first class but after finishing our main course we just sat for 15 minutes with all the servers vanished so we got up paid and left. It was a bit of an anticlimax! it would not stop me going again...
Jennifer King
Been there once, had a really good time there. The environment was superb. Friendly staffs with super good customer service. The food quality was really nice!
Vicki Hamilton
One of the best meals I have had in a number of years. Perfect size and combination of flavours. The scallops were small, tender and moist and complemented with a beautiful brun beurre. My main of salmon was just the right size and artistically presented
Adeline
Had a celebratory dinner here and also to see what the fuss was all about. We ordered the market fish and oysters, and the milk meringue dessert. It's Hilton Hotel, so it's hard to expect anything less.<br/><br/>Lovely experience, awesome views and super attentive service.

Nice&modern place, had a peaceful seaview with sunset. Oyster with roe was quite fresh. We had clam chowder and pig cheek for entree. Both are amazing and surprised. Would prefer pig cheek, it come with Kimchi , olive oil and some kind of braise sauce. Very rich flavour with a hint of spicy.<br/>For main, We had tarakihi with huge cloudy bay clams and pancetta. Nice juicy fish meat and crispy on top but tasted salty to me. The creative Lamb loin with spring roll and squash mash is worth to try. Lamb was very tender, I think it's better than some club on skytoweršŸ˜„. Service can be better. Anyway, not bad trip.

Second time at FISH and it's still as great as the last time! The ambience and service was amazing as usual. I especially love the spacious set up, good sized tables which are set well apart from other tables. I dislike when restaurants set tables so close to each other that you can hear your neighbours conversations! Anyway, to the food! They have changed the menu from the last time I went and I have to say this one is better! The clam starter was my favourite of the night but the paua dumplings were also very good. Gave FISH a 4.5/5 as the mains were not as good as the starters. It felt like there were too many over powering flavours going on especially in the Roast monkfish. But overall still a great restaurant compared to others in Auckland city!
Kelly Sanderson
Fish has a beautiful outlook. We were here early and watched the sun setting over the water from our table. The service was fantastic and food amazing. I had the monkfish with muscles and the chocolate tart both were really good but I found the sponge/ bread slightly unusual with the tart. We shared the dumplings to start and they were amazing! This is the perfect place to come for a special night out.

Went here on Thursday 14 March 2013, with a friend Peter Phelan, we had freshly shackled bluff oysters & Daniel Le Brun Champagne - OMG was just devine with exceptional service and what an amazing view - will never forget this place

Fancy food at fancy prices and while it is delicious and service is on point i can't help but think- i am inside a hotel! I think it is much nicer to have these fine dining experiences in special locations not in hotels.

More and more, I love hotel restaurants. Theyā€™re simple, not usually dependent on media hype and are consistently good.<br/><br/>At a seafood restaurant, I had to move outside my red meat love and fix on my eyes on the seafood on the menu.<br/><br/>Note: the portions are huge. We were asked twice if we would like to order entrees. The first time, we smiled and said no. By the second time, I was slightly annoyed that surely we would know our own stomachs better than the waitor!<br/>We went straight to the mains to order Shaneā€™s seafood stew, chocka-blocked filled with mussels, cloudy bay clams, prawns and saffron rouille. If we knew the mains were going to be this big, we would have skipped the sides of fries and salad. The stew was good for the variety of seafood you get, and to sop up all the delicious sauces or ā€œstewā€, bread is essential!<br/><br/>I had grilled kingfish with almond skordilla, salsa verde, asparagus and grilled lemon. I prefer kingfish served raw as a refreshing cerviche because I found this a bit dry. There was a generous serving of kingfish but not enough salsa verde to go around.<br/><br/>I had tried their salted caramel ice cream before at Taste of Auckland and it was heeeaven. We ordered two desserts to share.<br/><br/>As refreshing as the strawberry sorbet was, the taste was

Decided to try this restaurant, overall great experience. Food and service was good and staff were friendly throughout. Mains were delicious and they have one of the best oysters (totally recommend) I was a bit disappointed with their soft shell crab (one very very small crab for $26) hmmm but the rest of our meal was lovely. loved the Seaview and area was away from the crowd and loud music, which made the place very intimate (one couple proposed outside the restaurant) very cute!

We visited Fish to celebrate a 50th birthday. Ā The food was delicious and the waiter we had was fantastic to put up so well with some of us.<br/><br/>We really enjoyed our mains. Ā We ordered the catch of the day, seafood stew, ravioli and scotch fillet steak. Ā The catch of the day was delicious and cooked well. Ā The seafood stew was also good as they were generous with the seafood and didn't leave us disappointed. Ā We had a vegetarian member in our party who was really impressed with the ravioli. Ā Our only gripe is that we wouldn't recommend the steak, as a few of us were pretty disappointed with it - though to be fair the restaurant is called Fish.<br/><br/>We were also very pleased with the desserts, we'd recommend the raspberry tiramisu. Ā The rum poached banana was also good, but difficult to eat due to the pastry.<br/><br/>Perhaps the best thing about this restaurant is the setting - an amazing view with an immaculately designed interior. Ā It was nice to see the sunset whilst enjoying our dinner.

Are here a few months ago with a grabone voucher. I had the tempura prawns and pork belly for main. Food was yummy! Atmosphere a bit lacking.

If you fancy a cocktail prior to dinner, go downstairs to Bellini Bar, but order it well in advance of your dinner reservation; we waited 45 minutes. Pay at the time because they can't transfer the drinks account to your table. Upstairs at Fish, the (Christmas) meals were served luke warm - either marinated minute steak or a slice of turkey roll with Barkers cranberry jelly. The sides were boiled new potatoes and rocket and pear salad. Dessert comprised a wedge of Christmas pudding; Panna Cotta from the fridge; or a cheese platter served on a dinner plate.Ā To finish we were presented with Earnest Adams Christmas fruit tarts.

We went here a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a girlfriend's birthday. I booked in advance weeks before but we still had to go with a 2pm booking. We didn't mind that though as we had planned a long lunch anyway. It was busy but the staff were still attentive and once we had placed our order our meals came out in good time. We sat by the window and it's a great spot to watch the boats cruising by. We had the 2 course lunch special with a bottle of Rose. I ordered the tempura prawns for entree and they were huge, fresh and delicious. My main was a lovely pork belly which I couldn't finish as the servings were quite generous. I'll definitely come back for the prawns! It's a nice spot for a cruisy lunch with friends on a special occasion. I think the bill was about $200 for the 3 of us which included 3 x two course lunch specials and a bottle of wine.

Dreadful Hilton breakfast experience... Is this even the same Fish restaurant?<br/><br/>So currently I am on a brief visit to New ZealandĀ staying atĀ The Hilton Auckland right on the waterfront. One of the perks of status in The Hilton family is complimentary breakfast. As they donā€™t have a business lounge, breakfast is served in their fine dining restaurant Fishā€¦

Excellent Food, good and prompt service. The best part about the restaurant is the views across the harbour. The prawns I ordered were done perfectly and fish was melting in mouth. Full of flavours. Will definitely recommend for a business lunch or may be a romantic dinner. Only let down is parking is pricey.

Had a Fabulous Lunch atĀ  Fish and loved the fish. We opted for Set lunch menu . For me a Good restaurant need to please all senses Specially View , Smell, Taste and Sound. I was please almost by all. I had good company so did not bother about NO Music but Fish being part of 5 Star I was definitely expecting that. We got got good view seat.<br/><br/>I loved the starter and Dessert but Main was okay, lack of elements and seasoning. I did not experienced Wao-factor. Overall was good experience, for the price i paid.

Had the Ceviche here. Its was absolutely awesome. Best Ceviche I've tasted in a long time. The only slight downside was the guys at the counter. They were annoying. the other stalls had a bit of banter and it was allgood. But these guys were a bit much.
HJ
Only tried the caramel mousse, popcorn and salted caramel ice-cream while at the taste of Auckland. The dessert was sweet and packed full of flavour - perfect for caramel lovers. Was great to get a treat and sneak peak of what they have to offer.

The raw fish was to die for. This was the first dish we had when we arrived at Taste of Auckland and boy did it set the standard high! Super light, creamy, and full of flavour.
Frank
There is probably a correlation between the simplicity of a restaurant's name and the quality of their dining experience, eg Fish, Ostro, Grove, Masu etc.. and by changing it's name from White to Fish we should expect even greater things. (well at least 20% :-) In any case FISH did not disappoint, the Tarakihi ceviche with coconut foam flower and cucumber/tomato/chillies was so sublime and refreshing it was unbelievable. Definite highlight - do not miss. I also tried the amazing seared Kingfish with salsa verde, skordilla and asparagus, however being an unqualified amateur diner I am yet to determine what a skordilla is...
Emma Grey
Delicious food beautiful views and reasonable prices! Complimentary parking is a bonus too when it's available. Would definitely recommend this place for a special occasion

My wife and I had our wedding lunch here as we wanted something special. We had the 3 course meal and the price we paid was definitely worth it. The shrimps we had for our appetizers were juicy and big. The entrees we were served were larger than what we had anticipated and by the time we had our dessert, we were definitely filled. Great attentive staff and beautiful ambiance. One of the best restaurants in Auckland!
Christine
What a dining experience! Attentive service and FRESH seafood with lots of interesting spins. We dined as a group so had a chance to sample many options and all were beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Tuna tartar and catch of the day, Snapper, were among the crowd pleasers. I didn't order the seafood stew, but had order envy when it showed up in front of my colleague. Plus the views of the harbour are unparalleled. Seriously, check it out!
Cherryl Stevens
The restaurant was very pleasant and the staff were very good and friendly.<br/>The food unfortunately did not meet our expectations. <br/>The bacon bits on Oysters Kilpatrick were slightly over done and had some small pieces of shell in it. The crab also had some small pieces of the inner shell.<br/>The other dishes of blue cod, mushroom soup, rib eye and creamy potato were all luke warm.<br/>The pear dessert was the highlight of the meal.<br/>The shock of the night was the $24 flat fee for the parking.
Charlene Weaver
Came here for a work function and we had a set menu. Fine dining at its best. The food was incredible - fresh, top quality ingredients cooked perfectly. I must go back again and try more on the menu!
Nicky
I really love Fish. The location and view is amazing . It's a really relaxed, chilled out place to dine. I especially like having lunch here. The price is very reasonable for a 5 star hotel. Our waiter was absolutely lovely and provided fantastic service. Food was delicious and I really like the menu options. I have been to fish a number of times this year and I have never been disappointed. Highly recommended :)

There may be plenty of fish in the sea, but few are like FISH. For one, the restaurant has a breathtaking view of the Auckland harbour. One that looks just as spectacular on a sunny afternoon, I imagine, as it did on that particularly windy evening.<br/><br/>We all decided to go for the "Restaurant month" 3 course set menu. Priced at $55, it was a steal. The two appetisers were coconut-lime marinated Tarakihi and Mussels soaked in a Thai inspired curry. Given a choice between Lamb and Salmon for the main, guess which one we all went for? (Hint: the restaurant is called FISH for a reason!)<br/><br/>True to the name, good seafood is what you get. As one of my friends worked at FISH, we were served some extras ā€œcompliments of the chefā€ ā€“ a delicious mushroom soup and some fries and aĆÆoli on the side. My favourite was the Tarakihi. It was delicate, ceviche-like, almost melting in your mouth. The Mussels were good too, the curry giving them a bit of oomph. The salmon was a radiant red, just as pleasing to the eyes as to the palate.<br/><br/>We even got to witness the chef making a Nitro for our neighbours ā€“ a white chocolate mousse caramelized by the use of liquid nitrogen, made right in front of you. This one, my friend tells me, is a crowd-pleaser.<br/><br/>With Restaurant month (and hence the $55 special menu) coming to an end, this might be a little late. But check out FISH for views and flavours of the sea.

I was fortunate enough to have my boyfriend to take me to FISH for a valentines day dinner. It was a great night with complementary Champaign on arrival and we were seated right outside by the window with a spectacular view of Auckland harbor. I ordered the pine needle smoked duck breast entree and the confit Akaroa salmon main and they were both outstanding dishes. The only down side to the night was that our orders were quite slow to come out and although this really didn't bother us at all, our very accommodating waiter wasn't satisfied with the time it took so he offered us complementary desert which was very nice of him. I had the roasted glazed pear and it was to die for - my absolute favourite of the night; highly recommend! Over all the experience I had here was a great one and I would defiantly recommend FISH to everyone - even those non-seafood lovers.
Maddie
My partner and I come here for dinner every couple of months or so and we are never dissapointed! The staff are lovely and and the food is incredible, I normally start with the ceaser salad and my partner will get the scallops, and for main I'll get the chicken breast with steamed broccoli and quinoa and my partner will have either the venison or fillet minion. Both really great dishes. Everything is always delicious and we really enjoy eating here. Definitely recommend!

Was here few nights ago and got to say the meal was fantastic, service was brilliant and price was reasonable. We Will definitely come back.

Came here for a two course lunch. Spent a while trying to find the restaurant - no signage! - but was greeted to a phenomenal view and interior on arrival. The welcome and service was attentive but felt cold and staged unfortunately. I had the risotto to start - slightly undercooked and too wet - and a friend had the prawns. They were outstanding - very fresh, delicious batter and fantastic presentation. We had the terakihi on crushed potatoes and the salmon. Both were brilliant but the terakihi was the stand out dish. Perfectly seasoned and with a gorgeous buttery sauce. Had a glass of house sav, very nice.

I came here for a good friends birthday. <br/>The service was professional and friendly and the waiters even made a few jokes which was awesome. <br/><br/>Obviously the food was amazing. But a few highlights<br/><br/>- Their ginger beer is better than any beer I've ever had. It could be the environment, the glass, the ice to straw ratio but whatever it was really good. <br/><br/>- the oysters with bacon on top was delicious. And I'm not a huge fan of bacon. Please put the pitch forks away. <br/><br/>- the market fish comes as a whole fish, skin, bones and all. It also comes with cloudy bay clams and mussels. Messy looking dish but it was delicious!!<br/><br/>- the dessert. Was. Amazing. Just. Try it. Please. Just order the nitro. The make it at the table!!@

Rather quiet on the occasions that we've visited - which is quite sad as this really is a fine restaurant. Of special note is the venison I had, which to this day is the best single bite of meat I've ever had. I hope that it's usually packed, as the impression I have is of that of Beethoven's Symphony No.9; the deaf artist with his back to the audience, solely focused on his creations.

We had dinner here to celebrate a special birthday. It was one of the nicest meals we have ever had. We enjoyed the whole experience from the moment we walked it, the staff, the service, the food and the atmosphere were fantastic and faultless. We are looking forward to an excuse to return.

We had dinner here last night to celebrate my fiancƩs work achievements. The decor was magical. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. The starters of anchovy chips and fried oysters were a real delight. Who knew anchovies could taste that good! The mains were just as delicious. The added bonus of a little congratulatory plate of chocolates for my fiancƩ was the cherry on the top. Will definitely be back in the future :)

Went here just last night for my partners bday. The interior is so beautiful, I fell in love with it when I walked in. It's so beautiful, calm and relaxed. You can really enjoy a quiet dinner here with your special someone. Me and my partner got the Venison carpaccio & Poached prawn & crayfish to start with, which were both delicious. For Main we got Hauraki Gulf snapper & Grilled free range chicken breast as well as Garlic parmesan shoestring fries as the side. We both loved the mains. For dessert we had Hot chocolate fondant and a special dish hand made by the chef which was truffle with happy birthday written on the plate for my partner. Overall we had an amazing time. The dishes were perfect. The view was amazing. The interior was amazing and it was a comfortable easy going place. My partner and I really enjoyed it. Our waiter had great service as well.

Took my parents to a birthday lunch for my mum here, had some nice views as we managed to get a window seat. Very tidy dining area.<br/>Got the bread with a tomato & balsamic vinegar mousse for starters, was a bit unsure of it at first but tasted amazing. Only bad thing is the vinegar sinks to the bottom of the mousse so need to fish it out to make sure you get the full taste of the mousse. <br/>For starters 3 of us had the crumbed prawns with a sauce that was a little bit too spicy for my liking, however prawns were big and deliciously cooked. Dad got the smoked fish cakes, which he enjoyed but did say the smoked flavour was very strong. The waiter also explained that the chef loved to put sprinklings of sun dried tomatoes on everything which was true with the prawns.<br/>For mains I had the skin on fried tarakihi, not something I'd normally go for but very happy I did. Skin was crispy and fish was well cooked. Potatoes were a good side, and the sauce was yummy but not enough for the dish. Did have to season my fish a little bit more as found it lacked enough salt.<br/>Partner had the pork belly. It was tender and rated in the top 3 pork bellys he has had. We were sad the portion wasn't a little bit bigger. <br/>Mum had salmon which she enjoyed and left a very clean plate, while my dad had the fish and chips that came with a lot of chips. The fish and batter was good though.<br/>All and all it was a good lunch. Some portions/amounts could have been a little bit bigger.

I organised my husbands 40th at FISH. Their set lunch menu catered beautifully for the 15 adults and 9 children that attended. I was worried that the children would get board but FISH was well prepared with colouring-in menus and pencils and had us all seated in a perfect spot that we had free access out on to the very large balcony where we all spent a lot of time drinking and soaking up the fantastic sun and views of Auckland Harbour. Top service, top quality, great value.

Service from Reuben was excellent. Food was wonderful, view not as great as expected as we sat on the West side. We booking request a table on the East or North. Photos are entrees: Scallops and Tuna. Mains: Tuna and Market fish )Hapuka). Dessert Poached Peach and Pear ( very sweet)
Carina
Food is good and service is nice but the way they arranged parking is shocking. Security in front will tell you that Hilton sorts the parking whereas once you pay the bill Hilton staff tells you that there are exceptions and you have to pay full price to Wilson Parking. If you want to charge for parking, put a sign in front of the gate and please don't confuse people. Very sour taste after a nice meal.

Service was pretty wonderful. Food didn't live up to expectations but was still delicious! For the price and Taste of food, I probably won't look at returning... But it was indeed a wonderful experience.. Atmosphere is fantastic

Really liked this place the service was superb the food was magnificent and the setting is above average. I really didn't expect much as not that well known but have been a couple of times now and really enjoyed it. Must go back soon. Fish fish and more fish oh and some things for the non fish lovers.

I came here last year with family for my brothers birthday. The lunch specials are extremely good value for money, we were so full by the end of the main course we didn't end up getting dessert. This restaurant is beautiful, and I highly recommend requesting a seat on the deck on a lovely sunny day, absolutely stunning views. Our food was fresh and tasty, however, we did feel like the ratio of potatoes/carbs was significantly higher than the meat and vegetables, which is probably why we were so full. Overall, I would come back for the lunch deal as it is such good value for money and the location is stunning.

I wanted to take a colleague from Sydney somewhere that showed off our gorgeous harbour and beautiful food. We were not disappointed. The food was exquisite and the service friendly and professional. The free valet parking was a great touch. I can't wait to go back. It really was gorgeous. Claudia.

my husband took me here when he proposed.. it was lovely and intimate and the view of the sea perfect .. the seared tuna was cooked perfectly and I loved the scampi.. we has a pea soup appetiser and I have never had a better pea soup.. highly recommended

Dined here for partners birthday last night. Food, service, ambience of the place - was amazing! By far the best seafood restaurant in Auckland. Thank you so much for such a wonderful dinner. Will be back soon. We had the Hauraki Gulf Snapper, Shane's Seafood Stew, Truffle Steak house fries & Rocket/pear & parmesan salad. For dessert, we had the poached pear & peach crumble with mascarpone custard and Mnauka honey icecream and Raspberry mascarpone mousse which was frozen with Liquid Nitrogen at the table (highly recommend both the desserts). Thank you so much for such a wonderful dinner. Will be back soon.

I was immediately struck with how light and spacious the setting was for this place. We sat outside and enjoyed beautiful views and sea breezes whilst fine dining. The food presentation was absolutely immaculate and tasted just as amazing. Highly recommend especially for special occasions. It's a lovely experience and you will love the food. Customer service was awesome too. Can't really be faulted at all.

Fish is located at an amazing location with a view. I went with my partner on a weekday afternoon for their 3 courses set lunch at $49 pp.<br/><br/>Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Ā <br/>Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā starter: Fish cake/pumpkin soup<br/>Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Main: Pork belly/Salmon<br/>Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā Dessert: Choc Mousse/rice pudding<br/><br/>I prefer my fish cake over his pumpkin soup which i find it too watery. But he likes it so its all good. Next, The main was really good. The meat was tender and the fish was cooked just right. We both enjoyed it. I actually ordered the choc mousse while he ordered the rice pudding. I really enjoyed the rice pudding. It was really milky and flavorful. The mousse I find it too much and just having that, i find that it lacks components that are of different texture. Ā <br/><br/>But all in all, it was a great meal that we enjoyed. Service was good too.

My partner and I loved our experience at Fish - we were greeted warmly and looked after well by friendly staff - My partner had natural oysters (not my 1st choice of seafood) and I had the ciabatta and emulsified tomato oil - was gorgeous - light and fluffy (my partner ended up eating half) to start. Ā  For mains I had Hawkes Bay Lamb Loin - it was cooked perfectly and seasoned well the vegetables were delicious - My partner had the catch of the day which he was very impressed with (and was keen to state if he came back he'd order these choices again). Ā  The atmosphere and food was on point - I am looking forward to going back and cannot speak more highly of the restaurant. Ā Was glad I made a great choice to celebrate my partners 24th Birthday - which was also shown by a plate saying happy birthday with chocolates on it presented unexpectedly by Fish- Even though we were too full to order deserts.

Food very well presented and taste delicious, the view was awesome especial during a warm summer evening. The let down was the customer service, long wait between plates where empty plates was on our table for 15+ min :(

Nicely laid out and excellent service. The food itself was good without being anything at all extraordinary. Perhaps just lacked a depth of flavour. Wine list good and plenty of very drinkable wine at the entry level end of the list. On balance I'd happily eat there again, though for choice I'd prefer to try somewhere else.

The views were great and matched the food and atomsphere perfectly. Everything from the service to the food was exceptional. We went there for lunch and were not disappointed.

This place is breathtaking. The beautiful view on the viaduct front and all the interior is magical. Had an amazing ten course degustation hosted by Simon Gault and his top Chefs. An experience I will never forget.. from hydrogen lollipops to smokey lamb and the works. Came away very full but each meal was different and unique.

I wanted to dine somewhere with a good view so I decided to bring along my group of friends to visit Fish and while the view was breathtaking I was also exceeded beyond my expectations. The reputation of the Hilton brand definitely upholds its name in luxury and extravagance with its lavish interior dĆ©cor, romantic setting and its expansive views. It is an indulgence not to be missed with any excuse for that special date or occasion. <br/><br/>Iā€™ve been here for both lunch and dinner services. If youā€™re lucky sometimes you can catch their lunch special that consists of 2 course meals or a particular. One of the best highlights for daytime dining is the feel for the magnificent view of the Auckland viaduct and harbor. Enjoy the sunshine soaking into the restaurant and be surrounded by their immaculate first class demeanor. The restaurant is fresh and airy by day and magical by night. I had my birthday here for dinner and I experienced a quality service with commitment and passion to their role to make my night extra special. A night filled with elegance and excellence.<br/><br/>The food was also exceptional, cooked to its finest and placed beautifully for its presentation. The way they played around with the placement of food and the use of their dining apparatus was just premium art. I especially loved their Strawberry Nitrogen Ice Cream where they wheeled out a cart for you to show you the presentation, brilliant. For the eye fillet steak I ordered, I admit it was good but not favored to the others I had tried previously elsewhere. I am selective.<br/><br/>It is a spendy restaurant but as far as it goes with its top quality in food, service and surroundings, it has given me a memorable and unforgettable visit.

Free Valet Parking! This will be the biggie for parking in central CBD.<br/><br/><br/><br/>The fish was fresh as expected, tempura prawns did not impress much. Risotto was delicious and their Salmon was cook by steam and skin cooked by deep frying (2in1!)<br/><br/><br/><br/>Dessert was fantastic and on par with Langham and Milse.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Will definitely go again<br/><br/><br/><br/>Great place for a date or quick night to impress, suit up gentlemen and wash your hands in their bathroom as there are free towels!<br/><br/><br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/><br/>Wait time: 4/5<br/><br/>Environment: 5/5<br/><br/>Food Quality: 4/5<br/><br/>Food Quantity: 5/5<br/><br/>Price range: $60+ pp

The service here is top notch. Friendly, knowledgable and attentive. Nice location with views out over the water. I'm pretty sure they offer free valet parking, but we came in via taxi.<br/><br/>The food was great, try the Tempura Oysters (even if you don't like oysters - we don't but had eaten them here in the past on the recommendation of someone else, and they really are worth trying!!). You can just order 1 or any number you want, which is a nice touch.<br/><br/>The Seafood Stew was the pick of the mains, catch of the day was good but not spectacular. Desert was amazing - Lemon and Ricotta fritters and the Chocolate fondant.<br/><br/>Overall definitely 5 stars and worth a visit.

Had dinner here last night with a group of six, food was amazing, our waitress ruby was great, and the kitchen was very accommodating with dietary requirements. Thoroughly recommend . Oh and they make the best aioli .

Came here with my buddy for dessert... And yeah, wasn't really worth the wait. <br/>An impromptu visit and we were treated in that sort of way. A table for 2 wasn't hard to spot, but we waited 10 mins for one. Onto desserts and coffee. And well, dessert was pretty good. The nitro, a pleasant champagne and mango tasting experience, with all the excitement of the chef preparing it at the table (even though she dropped the foam canister on the ground..woops.) And the chocolate fondant, and all its rich gooey glory. Unfortunately, the waitress completely forgot about the coffees we'd ordered right at the start. She tried to make a quick mends, but.. Gave us different coffees to what we had asked. Damn. Oh well, they get a star for each of the desserts.

Good experience. Impromptu visit with a friend, food good but service excellent. Probably would want to take in the view during the day or early evening cant see much of the harbour at night but great location. Overall nice dinner, not as pricey as I envisioned. If still on the menu if you go, would recommend the Crostini probably gives a good indication of both the sea and land fare depending on what your after. Only "complaints' they did not have the wine we wanted but suggested a good replacement. They also forgot the side of chips, but probably fortuitous as the meal was surprisingly filling. The service was excellent and really attentive but not intrusive. Overall good dinner and would go again.

Great experience. I came to celebrate my partner's birthday and it was simply amazing. We both had appetizer, mains and desserts and they were simply amazing - food quality that you expect at a five star hotel restaurant.<br/><br/>The waiter asked if it was a special occassion as we were quite dressed up, and I told him it was my partner's birthday. Thankfully the waiter organised a special dish with chocolates, candles, flowers etc and 'happy birthday' in writing. <br/><br/>While the current rating of fish is at 3.5 right now on menu mania, my dinining experience was definitely a 5+. Also I got to use my entertainment coupon which is always a plus : )

FINE dining! Yip yip yip. Really surprised at the mixed feedback for the service was faultless. The meal - phenomenal. We are foodies and great home cooks, but there was not a single course i would bother attempting at home. Anchovy chips - WOW! Caesar salad and tuna tartar for entrees (our only reason for coming- hubby tried this at the seafood festival and HAD to have it again - need i say more) then Viennese prawns (who puts cabbage and raisins on prawns? Crazy! Mad! Delicious!) and squid (fascinating - made like fish balls but loaded with squidly flavour). We weren't able to fit in dessert - next time. Excellent wine list and helpful serve staff who aren't condescending. This was a truly memorable meal.

Visited here for my sister's 21st. Felt pretty let down to be honest. Was going on the reputation of Simon Gault, but the meals didn't live up to expectation.<br/><br/>Some members of our party felt the waiter was a bit rude, though I put that down to his personality perhaps.<br/><br/>Definitely not worth the money you spend here.

Went to Fish Restaurant a couple of weeks ago...for a degustation meal...<br/><br/>And was very very disappointed.... Had heard great things about this restaurant..... As a person who has eaten in a lot of our great restaurants in Auckland....<br/><br/>They charged for everything, thought for a restaurant of this standard you would at least get a complimentary bread roll...but alas no....<br/><br/>Sorry guys...a real disappointment.
Carole
Had lunch there today... amazing. The food was fantastic and our waiter was really great he was so on to it, sometimes he had been and cleared the table or poured wine and we didn't even notice he had been there.<br/>This will be our new regular.
Tia-Marie Netto
Food was delicious with great presentation! Loved the fresh oysters in the chardonnay dipping sauce. The market fish was cooked to perfection and the desserts were delicious. The crayfish however, was it little overpriced for the size and what it was worth. The customer service was not up to scratch for the price. I called to make a reservation in the afternoon however ,when we turned up they did'nt seem to have a table reserved for us and did'nt have us on the list. Someone did come up and speak to us regarding the oversight .The waiter waiting on us was a little abrupt and we got the feeling that we had to hurry up as the resteraunt was closing down being a Sun eve towards 10pm . The wine connoisseur was probably the person who made up for our dim first impression. He was friendly and suggested some beautiful wines to accompany our meals. <br/>Overall, customer service is a very important thing for me and I won't be going back to that resteraunt.

Great, fantastic sea view restaurant. We visited there before the sunset and enjoyed it for hours. What a stunning location!<br/>However, the food was not so impressive maybe the view too nice. We both ordered seafood entree and fish main to find out good. But still not attractive enough for us to be back. <br/>Their service looked nice, however the female staff often cut in our conversation to make sure everything's alright or to ask for additional orders. Every time she came to us, we lost our direction of talk. A little too far from true hospitality and doesn't suit to this fancy restaurant.<br/>Big space and tables for the number of customers that night. We may come back if the service becomes more sophisticated.

FISH is by far our favourite fine dining restaurant. The prices may be a bit steep but the quality of the food definitely makes up for it. Have been here many times for different special occasions.<br/>Our last visit was a surprise for me from my partner on our anniversary. He had been in touch with the manager to organize a special night for us - this was all via email as my partner was overseas! We were given the best seat in the house right on the balcony overlooking the water. The waiter was fantastic and looked after us so well. The food was to die for - so delicious. I had the surf and turf, eye fillet and prawns, while my partner had rack of lamb with crayfish. The portion sizes were very big, not at all what you would expect from such a high class restaurant (normally big plates with a tiny amount of food!). For dessert I was brought out a plate of chocolates that was decorated by the chef with candles and had "Happy Anniversary" written in chocolate sauce. Was an amazing night made even more special by the staff that went out of their way to help. If your looking for something special FISH is a must.

My partner and I headed off to Fish for my partners birthday, after reviewing their menu and ensuring it catered for vegetarians (not both of us).<br/>Unfortunately we had such a terrible experience I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Price was not an issue, but value for money was. The maitre d was absolutely appalling - he was dismissive and made us feel quite unwelcome. Seriously he's a maitre d not the queen. <br/><br/>The waiter however was perfect. He was very friendly and had to apologise for the maitre d's attitude.<br/>My entree, a 63 minute egg, was completely raw. Not soft boiled - raw and my main - was smothered in soy sauce.<br/><br/>Having said that my partner had excellent scallops for his entree and a satisfactory fillet for his main. <br/><br/>As we went on a Tuesday night - their main chef may have been off that night. If that is the case then they clearly have an issue with ensuring their staff know the menu and how to cook and present it.<br/>I was looking forward to a wonderful meal at this restaurant but was highly disappointed. A good chef can cook what is popular on the menu - an excellent chef can prepare an outstanding vegetarian meal. This was not the case. If it wasn't for the waiter, our rating would be one star.

Was taken out to lunch here as part of a large group celebration. The view is fabulous but there is something a little sterile about the general feel of the place - it isnt my style. The service was attentive and consistent, my glass of water was kept topped up and I was never long without a glass of alcohol in front of me. The food was a set lunch menu and there were several choices for each course. The bread and tomato foam stuff that came with it was lovely but there was only one little bread roll each. I had the bruschetta and vegetables and buffalo mozzarella and it was delicious and moreish. If I'd been paying I might have quibbled about the size, but it was delicious for what it was. For the main I had the beef and it was tender and moist and I savoured every melt in the mouth forkful. The accompanying potatoes, silver beet gratin and sides of pear and rocket salad were also fantastic and the whole meal was the perfect size and mix of flavours. For dessert I had a very small and tasty chocolate mousse and pistachio ice cream that was light and a good finale for the meal. All in all the food was fantastic. My boyfriend also raved about the Caesar salad which was the best he'd ever had he said. I wouldn't come to Fish of my own choice but as a guest of someone with lots of money I enjoyed the experience of it.

Had dinner with four friends last night (including one from Britain). Food was really nice but the service was poor. The evening started well with lots of attention from the wait staff, but this deteriorated as the evening wore on...in the end we were having to demand service. It looked as if there was a shortage of waiters and those on duty were under stress to cope.
Marsha Laskey
Had a very delicious meal, the tuna was devine! I thought the location and the staff attention was extremely good. Was very impressed overall and will be back!<br/>Also, the wine list was very good as well. <br/>Thumbs up to 'Fish'!!

I think these two top chefs need to come to my house for lunch as I can certainly do much better than what I experienced yesterday!<br/><br/>Decided to take advantage of the Auckland Restaurant Month menu that Fish was offering - $31 for 2 courses or $39 for 3 courses and were pleased to find a very nice wine for $45 a bottle, so all good so far.<br/><br/>We started with bread and dip (an extra cost) and this consisted of 3 small buns and an interesting tomato mousse style dip - so OK.<br/><br/>I then opted for "Corn chowder / bacon / crab / pesto crouton" - what a joke this was! Basically it resembled Watties mixed vegetables in some thickened, unseasoned water with bits of bacon and a few shreds of crabmeat which looked like the tinned variety. The pesto crouton was a half of the buns served with our bread and dip and the topping was certainly green, but that's where it's similarity to pesto ended - it had no flavour at all - absolutely dreadful!<br/><br/>For the main I selected "FISH pot pie / selection of seafood / scallop / prawns / market fresh fish/ crayfish cream sauce / parmesan potato top". This was nicely presented with a leaf salad on the side. I did find one nice juicy prawn (certainly not prawns plural) and a couple of pieces of fish, but think the scallop must have escaped along with the crayfish cream sauce as the bulk of the pie was a rather bland white sauce, but there were plenty of peas (which I detest). This would be the sort of thing I'd serve up for Sunday dinner, but mine would have more seafood and flavour - very ho hum!<br/><br/>I felt no urge to give the desserts a go based on the entree and main course, so we moved on elsewhere for coffee and certainly won't be in a hurry to return.
Tornado
Excellent lunch, fantastic service, well priced, and beautiful view. Highly recommended. <br/><br/>The set menu included fish pies, fantastic tuna burger and a mousse. Very well mannered personnel and took great care of us.

Had lunch today, 3 course august special 39 dollars per person.<br/>Very good service, friendly and professional. Nice view over the harbour, the food was divine. Both our 3 courses were very, very good. We were on 5,5 stars cruise ships en the quality was the same compare to Fish The restaurant classy. Will definitely come back.

Really really wanted to like this place.<br/><br/>In my opinion the best location for a restaurant in NZ - sublime views, lovely breeze , pristine outlook - outstanding location.<br/><br/>But<br/><br/>It just isn't up to scratch <br/><br/>We arrived and one of the waiters (off duty) was standing with 3 people right in the way for a group to get past - so we threaded our way through them to our table (yes, we eat out enough it would seem to know who waiters are from various places ) .<br/><br/>One thing that strikes you right away is being one of only 2 groups in a restaurant at lunch time and a whole lot of empty space, and it didn't fill up.<br/><br/>OK, onto the food.<br/><br/>Starters were good - no problems.<br/><br/>Mains - on the whole pretty good, but I would like to have heard what a Master Chef panel would have said if they'd been served up what we had....<br/><br/>The steaks were fine, no problem<br/><br/>The tongue however was 1/4 thick, right beside the steak, complete with the taste bud follicles nicely attached for all to see - if one is going to serve it at least make it look a little different and appetizing to those who are not great fans, or slice it thinly with some nice presentation - it looked like spam out of a can.<br/><br/>The seafood stew needs to be kicked into touch - it was Pub Grub at best, not fine dining.<br/><br/>Deserts - don't know as were not offered any after 20 minutes post mains being cleared.<br/><br/>We eat out at least twice a month and the team decide where we go as it is their sales performance that is rewarded.<br/><br/>We generally spend $700 to $1500 on lunch, and the feedback from the team is that they wouldn't go back.<br/><br/>I really wanted to like it and we anticipated spending a lazy afternoon having a long long lunch, but left disappointed.<br/><br/>Outstanding location though!

It was our first visit to Fish and will be followed by many more. We have enjoyed Shane Yardley's cooking in other restaurants however at Fish we feel Shane has taken the menu to a new level. I had the bacon &amp; crab chowder followed by the twice cooked pork belly. My wife enjoyed the Caesar salad and fish pot pie. Our daughter described the fish and chips the best she has ever had and wanted to take some home for dinner! You couldn't fault the service. The view was worth the visit on its own. Fabulous food, fine wine and service, a great way to spend an afternoon.

Read the reviews and thought sweet! Special anniversary dinner for us at a silver service restaurant. Our previous visits have always been top class. Last night we could not fault the food and strong compliments to the chef and team on superbly cooked and presented dishes. Unfortunately we didnt think the service matched the 5 star food. Host was very casually dressed and at first we thought he was a customer, we were shown to our table and a waitress was pointed out to us. Friendly but not attentive, plates hurriedly placed on table, dirty plates sat for ages and we were given two different menus. It just wasn't as good as previous visits and equal to the many casual restaurants we frequent. Sort of spoilt the ' special' factor of the food. Service did not reflect the quality of food or the price $300 for two ( 3 courses and a glass of wine)

OMG! Exquisite food, lovely attentive and personable service (Thanks Eddie, wonderful), and a view to die for! This must be Auckland's best kept secret. Add to that, the amazing value-for-money lunch set menu ($31 for 2 courses), and why would you go anywhere else? Thanks Fish for an outstanding experience :)

Unfortunately didn't hear back re booking but fronted up anyway. Met by maitre de who admitted he read the booking but didn't reply!<br/>On being seated in a nice position, menus given to us, my friends was marked and dirty which we felt was not good for silver service restaurant.( perhaps being picky!)<br/>Lunch menu was excellant, food and service during our lunch was excellant, so overall a pleasant lunch.<br/><br/>Would recommend to friends as special place.<br/>Jan

Fish is a wonderful restaurant with excellent service. Food really flavoursome and beautifully presented. The only gripe that I have is that my Kingcrab fishcakes were not properly drained so they were rather oily. The rest was lovely. The Fishpot was superb indeed. Will definitely go back.

We had a wonderful time at Fish last weekend. Our waitress was friendly, attentive and created a great atmosphere for us. It was a nice surprise at the end of our meal when a garnished plate with some chocolate balls arrived at our table with a Happy Anniversary message. <br/><br/>The food tasted great, was visually spectacular and creative. I would highly recommend Fish, especially if youā€™re celebrating a special occasion.

This place is fantastic!!!! Get a table outside as the view is fabulous and the gas fires are gorgeous if it gets chilly. Don't worry as it's all under cover. The service is fabulous and the food is just superb. Had my 50th birthday there and we were treated like royalty. Could not fault a thing!!!! Will go again for sure and although it's expensive, they make you feel like it's totally worth it and you forget the cost.

An awesome 5 star dining experience!..For our 5th wedding anniversary I decided to take my wife out to Fish. Saw their impressive online menu and was already sold to it. We arrived at 9pm and were kindly greeted at the door. Walked up the staircase and into the restaurant, The atmosphere and ambiance inside and around was just amazing a total WOW factor, with a mixture of contemporary lighting with a touch of blue fluorescent lighting under table in the front really got our eye. We were greeted and taken to our table facing the ocean. A friendly gentleman introduced himself and gave us a run down on the menu for the night and also suggested some of them to us. He also asked if it was any special occasion for our dining. To begin we ordered some bread for a start. My wife ordered Tempura Prawns and I ordered Snapper Soup with crab dumplings, both absolutely made to perfection, we had two waitresses bring in our order. The Snapper soup was brought in two dishes and mixed at our table by the adding the sauce to the dish, I found this very appealing as it had a class of its own. A bottle of fine white wine was a definite choice to compliment our meal. Table was cleared and cleaned once we finished our entree's. All new cutlery arrived for our main meal in a very timely manner. For our mains I ordered the Pan roasted hapuka with capers / parsley / potatoes / vermouth and my wife ordered Red king crab with linguine / chilli / parsley. The favours were absolutely mouth watering, The Hapuka was beautifully garnished ...a definite must try menu. Our serving waiter was very attentive and made us as comfortable as possible. All the staff were very friendly as well, always smiled whenever they went past. There was also a small Indian wedding reception happening on the far end of the restaurant. There was soft Indian classical music being played from time to time. I managed to pickup a few lines for my wife to it make it special for her lol. For our dessert we had Hot chocolate fondant with aged rum and raisin ice-cream. This also was truly delicious all over and had a mixture of both hot and cold on one plate. We finished our dessert, ordered the bill and were just about to leave the table when the chef gave us a little surprise for our Wedding anniversary. He brought was a nice rectangular White plate and Happy Wedding Anniversary written with chocolate all over, a candle in the middle and on the side had two little round pieces of chocolate balls mixed with wafer and apricot, garnished with coconut......this made us feel soooo special. Overall does come with a price tag. Bill came to $174.00, but worth every bit of it. We left the restaurant with some great memories and hope to return back for another great experience very soon.

Enjoyed a lovely pre-xmas diner treat here last week, the service was impeccable and could not be faulted, the bread and tomato mousse was exceptional. Our mains were very good, the steak got a glowing review very very tender and cooked to perfection. The flounder was also cooked just right, the butter sauce on top was a little salty for my taste and my prawns seemed slightly overcooked, but this did not detract from the delightful flounder. The Malibu sorbet that was part of the desert was simply devine and we could have eaten just a plate of that.

"FISH" is the new "White", having enjoyed a perfectly cooked lunch this week its so much much more than a name change. The upgrade comes courtesy of the team behind Euro, Shed 5 and JSH.... so with this knowledge our expectations were piqued with anticipation. To begin we were seated in the outside dining balcony with the most perfect harbour view. Sun shining almost as much as the smile and helpful professionalism of the young lady looking after us, service was much better than good, timing, helpfulness, anticipating our needs were all spot on. The menu is very much in the smart dining category with a thoughtful menu displaying no shortage of dish variation or kitchen skill. There is creativity and passion at work here,in both food and service. With food in mind the real test was if it tasted as good as it read or if there were one or two culinary tricks too many? Dining with two friends we enjoyed different dishes which did provide us with much enjoyment as well as small tastings from each others plates. Inevitably with any menu there are dishes a person likes and enjoys more than another - that's personal taste. What I can say is the taste and quality of the cooking is at a very high level, hugely enjoyable and with more than a little theatre thrown in - There is a chocolate dessert which you simply have to order, its prepared at your table and your in for a hugely enjoyable surprise!

Managed to score a 5 course degustation menu from grab one... Was not disappointed. We had excellent food and service. Because it is a hotel restaurant it had regular guests with children etc. so it felt a bit of a mismatch between a special occasion and degustation and being in a family restaurant.... So it could have been more special if degustation menu enjoyers were kept separate but the food and service was very good and high quality so the atmosphere could be overlooked.

FISH is located on Level One of the Hilton on Princes Wharf and as soon as you walk up the stairs the ambiance is exactly what you expect from the Hilton brand ā€“ an opulent open space with modern dĆ©cor. Of course the expansive views of the Auckland Harbour simply takes this dining location to the next level. Our party of four were here to sample the 5-course degustation menu (via GrabOne) so were hopeful that the food would be as grand as the views. <br/><br/>There were two large functions the night we dined and were initially seated at a large round table set for eight. This was awkward given that we would either be sitting across the large table from each other or else sitting along one edge making it difficult to converse throughout dinner. Just as we were about to ask for an alternative, the excellent maĆ®tre d, Oscar (who would continue to deliver exceptional service throughout the evening) asked if we would like to view another table. We were led to a smaller table in the outdoor terrace-balcony area, which was kept cosy by an open fire and ceiling heaters. <br/><br/>There was an option to wine match the degustation for $40 per person. As three quarters of our table were driving that evening, we enquired whether we could order two sets of the wine matches and split the glasses in half for each person. This request was happily accommodated. <br/><br/>To start, we had the Mussel and Tio Pepe cappuccino. The soup was rich and thick, full of mussel flavour with the foam on top lightly seasoned with a sea-salt/seaweed-like seasoning. This was a heart-warming dish and just the right start to the evening, making us excited for what else was to come. <br/><br/>The second dish was pepper cured kingfish with beetroot, crisp rice and crĆØme fraiche. This was light, fresh and such a delicate dish. The elements all complemented each other well. Third course was a mushroom and spelt risotto. This was presented in a large UFO-like dish with wilted spinach and a parmesan crisp. One of the favourite dishes of evening, it was perfectly seasoned and the spelt was a welcome change from usual aborio rice. For the fourth course there was a choice between the Akaroa salmon (with herb crust, prawn and spring onion mash potato and spicy pistachio butter) or the pepper rubbed South Island venison loin (with parsnip puree, roasted carrot and courgette and orange citrus jus). Being in an establishment named FISH, the obvious choice was the salmon. The salmon was perfectly cooked and simply fell apart when cut into. The mash itself was smooth and tasty but I found it a bit unusual to have bits of prawn throughout. A highlight of the dish for me was the spicy pistachio butter, which was tangy, lightly spiced, and a perfect accompaniment to the fish. To finish, a smooth buttermilk pannacotta with Earl Grey poached figs, hazelnut biscuit and vanilla ice-cream was served. All four components worked well together and was the perfect end to an amazing meal. <br/><br/>There was a bit of a mix up with the wine pairings, having been given the first wine with the first course instead of the second course. Once the wait staff realised this, we were given an additional complementary pinot gris matched to the risotto. <br/><br/>This place is definitely a place to impress and for special occasions. The wait staff, in particular Ruby and Oscar were attentive, pleasant and friendly. The courses were timed perfectly and requests met with no difficulty. I look forward returning to sample the anti-pasto selection with Italian cured meats selection on the large marble table that sat centre-stage of the restaurant. 5/5!

Was having a catch up with a group of friends and we went to FISH at the Hilton (down viaduct). It was absolutely gorgeous. The view, the customer service, the tableware, the food presentation and tasteā€¦ spot on. Iā€™m surprised there isnā€™t that much hype about it or it being featured in Metroā€™s top 50 awards. The interior is something you'd see out of a magazine, it's so airy and spacious, it feels less like a stiff restaurant and more like you've stepped into an exclusive haven. We had a great waiter and waitress who were very efficient and engagingly charming, the smart up class dining area had an amazing view of the sea, we were lucky to be seated on the balcony with the cool breeze. We did the $35 two course lunch special which was great value for money. I've been back for a birthday celebration dinner and once again, it was an amazing experience. Make sure you save room for dessert- specifically the Nitrogen Ice Cream which is guaranteed to enthral you with its molecular gastronomy wow factor. The chef will come to your table and prepare your dish in front of your eyes, arrange it like art on a black tile plate.<br/><br/>For other reviews and more, please visit my blog:

Wow! A family celebration took us to a long table beautifully set up with stunning views out to the harbour on one side and of the port on the east side Not that we needed to look out the window - the food was viewing enough! Immaculately presented as you would expect of a restaurant of this calibre in a hotel like the Hilton, we couldn't fault anything about it. The service was brilliant, unintrusive yet attentive, efficient and pleasant, the wait staff knew their stuff and didn't need pen and paper to get the orders right. I really enjoyed the scallops - 5 large juicy ones with garlic and peas. A little different presentation but exquisite flavour. Some of the men had oysters as a first course and FISH offers several options here- raw with Tabasco and balsamic, battered with Mayo or lightly grilled with bacon. All yummy! <br/>My snapper with prawn crusted potatoes - very simple, truly excellent. The fish and chips were popular, crispy light fries and a crunchy rice coating on the terakihi. No one ordered red meat! But the fillet steak with mushrooms and prawns we saw go by to another table looked outstanding! <br/>Try the caramel popcorn ice cream if you can fit it in! Or a nitro frozen dessert made at your table is an impressive point of difference!<br/>The wine list is extensive- and expensive, in fact it's all expensive. But it's not an everyday restaurant and you don't mind paying for class on a special occasion

I went to Fish with a big family group for a long weekend lunch; there were about 20 of us including small children. The restaurant is situated on the second floor of the Hilton right at the end of Princes Wharf with a stunning outlook over Auckland Harbour. It feels pretty posh to be rocking up to the Hilton, so we had dressed accordingly, and were expecting something special.<br/><br/>Fish delivered. The menu selection covered all bases, specialising as you would imagine in seafood. The great grandfather was very happy with his oyster & scallop selection; the small children likewise with their fries & fish bites. There were also Caesar salads, risottos, pork bellies and fresh, clean seafood flavours to choose from.<br/><br/>Fish is a thoroughly enjoyable option if you're looking to impress, want to get away from the hustle & bustle of the Viaduct, and I could even imagine it would suit a romantic rendezvous. The Hilton brand makes it that little bit special, without over-the-top prices putting it out of the reach of the average Joe.

Excellent views of the harbour and truly magical on a sunny evening. A bit hit and miss with the food though- sometimes it's outstanding, sometimes it's just so-so. Last meal I had there was a degustation - the dips we had to start were interesting but nothing truly special, the antipasto platter could have been prepared by even me but the lamb rump was very good as was the dessert. Feels very chic and swanky so go dressed up.
