Review Mezze Bar - Auckland Central

R M
Mezze Bar was a great dining experience combined with a causal evening outing. We chose this place on a whim and were able to secure a table without a reservation. You must order at the bar but the service is fast-paced. The seasoning of our meals was surprisingly good and exceeded our expectations by large. Our friend also praised their pinot noir!

Mezze Bar is my go-to place for dessert, the almond tart is a favourite! I recently went with friends to celebrate a birthday and the staff were so kind to have added cute decorations to the cake! I couldn’t thank them properly so I really hope this review reaches them! Thank you so so much, it was such a thoughtful and cute touch❤️

I love the atmosphere and vibe. The service was amazing, surely will come back for more

I’ve tried Tiramisu, almond tart, carrot cake and chocolate buttermilk cake. For me almond tart was the best!! It was fantastic! Highly recommend their desserts and coffee!

The place and the staff are at 5-star quality. The taste of the food is delicious to my Asian preference. They said the lamb was halal and that is perfect for me.

Excellent spot. Great selection of gluten free food

Beautiful space to sit and relax and best spot for breakfast or brunch. Loved their customer service, hot chocolate was perfect and their cheese and butter scone are NEXT LEVEL! It’s the best on Queen Street. Can’t wait to explore their big menu and other cabinet options which had irresistible looking cakes 🧁🤤

Mezze Bar has my heart. It’s the rare kind of place that really has it all - delicious food options that will please just about anybody, late night coffee, and speedy wifi. They have vegan and vegetarian menus available as well - all tapas style. My go-to is the chocolate buttermilk cake or baklava slice and Moroccan tea. It’s a great heart-of-the-city spot to get some work done. The atmosphere feels like a cozy living room, and the staff make you feel right at home.

So cool that this place has lasted all these years, and is still going strong! fantastic range of delicious food. Great cozy atmosphere, good for dates or friend catch ups. For a classic experience try the Mezze plate with the Red Sangria! Great vegetarian options!

The cakes at this place have been bringing me back for yonks! Usually come here for a night cap or a night cap and dessert. When I do have a meal it isn't disappointing. Featured is the Mezze lamb burger and one of my favourites for dessert, chocolate buttermilk cake and the almond cake. I love an orange cake but their one has so thick rind in it which I'm not a fan of. Mezze is a key spot for my friends and I. Go on and check it out! Love that they have white port and their tiramisu is to die for. Finally had brunch here for the first time after all these years and okay it wasn't during brunch time but hey the menu was still available so I went ahead and ordered the bacon and chip butty and so did the rest of my friends. It did the job and I had the chocolate buttermilk cake for dessert because it was a Sunday! Went here for lunch with my friend and I ordered the Greek salad and the patatas bravas was for us to share. Salad was delish but could have been a better portion for what is charged. I feel like the chocolate buttermilk cake has changed. It still tastes really good but it doesn't come out with the hot chocolate sauce anymore. I was telling my friend all about it so that was a bit of a bummer. Was here last month for a night cap and dessert - ordered the almond tart (one of my faves) and the dessert wine. Quite a stingy slice so wasn't happy about that.

Awesome food and atmosphere, the staff are really nice and helpful too. Good options are available for all. We still could not go past the Vegan Mezze dinner plate (they both vegan and non-vegan option), but we got the vegan menus to try. Was really nice.

4/5 atmosphere (one downside is it is veery very noisy. If you don't mind that, you can't go wrong) Toilets are shared by men and woman, and the sliding door requires a bit of grit to slide open. Good vibes for easy catchup 🤌🤌

This is one hell of a place for any event that involves food and chilling. Love everything about this place. It's so economical and the food is packed with middle Eastern flavors. Thanks team we will be back as usual.

We had our team dinner and the food simply amazing.. Right in the middle of a busy city, a hidden gem bar in Durham and you can find comfort in their Mediterranean cousin! I cant stop eating the chicken liver pate with crispy toast, just soo yum! Highly recommended!
Rosie When
My most favourite place for Mediterranean food in town. This place is such a gem ! From the tapas to lunch, dinner, desserts, and drinks, everything is so tasty and well made. I found myself keep coming back to this place over and over again, that’s just how much I love Mezze Bar. The atmosphere is nice and so does the interior design of this place. They have done very well in creating that fun, cozy, traditional but also out of the rule vibe. Kudos to the team and see you again soonish :)

Came here on a Saturday for brunch. Food was absolutely delicious and well presented. There was a good mix of sweet and savoury dishes on the menu as well as some very yummy looking cakes in the display cabinet. Service was mixed depending on who was serving but overall, a very enjoyable experience. Definitely worth coming again. The coffee was really good too.

The chill and charm of a jazz bar with a vibrant and bustling yet relaxed atmosphere, but be forewarned: it gets loud enough to make conversation difficult.

Wheelchair accessible if someone sees you and opens the door. Great people, food and service. Being a wheelchair user was surprised to see the accessible entry to the area was closed and locked. Surely security know in this day and age we go out to dinner at night. That entry should not be locked until after the Mezze is closed and all customers have left.
CARO CONSUMES
I think about this place a lot. The sauce on the potatoes are everything, a great mix of slight acidity and creaminess with a sprinkle of spice. The chicken liver pate is also something I get every time because it’s consistently simple and delicious. The grape soda has been a strange experience for me, the first time I got it, it was refreshing, sweet, and grape-y. The second and third time it was less so, it tasted like the grape part of the drink had gone off... The mint tea is more of a preference based situation, where I didn’t find it strong enough. Everything else is great and I still visit regardless of the drink situation, I will just have to give the grape soda up....

Such a lovely cosy dining room, their hummus is amazing, last time I had the 'lunch plate' which has haloumi, mushroom, tomato, grilled tomato bread, hummus and their famous carrots, with a glass of marlborough sauvignon blanc. Friendly service, delicious food, good central location

Mezze Bar is the go-to for cozy post dinner dessert and drinks. My favourite dessert is definitely the sticky date pudding. Generously doused in caramel sauce with a moist pudding texture, you honestly can't go wrong. The lemon tart is also the perfect balance of sweet and tangy. I love the ambiece at mezze bar - it's bustling and vibrant but still very warm and homely. Highly recommend!
FoodieOodie95
The food here was sooo delicious. Every dish was great and their menu is full of choice. Came here for dinner and drinks. Can’t wait to be back again.

The moorish eggs was delicious. Flavor was perfectly balanced. I would come back just to eat that.

I had some time to kill so I came in for some tea and when I sat down the lady in in the other table was having the same Turkish tea. You know it’s good!

The Mezze Bar pronounced as meh-ZEH) was created 23years ago. It was a creation of 3 kiwi friends who travelled through the Middle East, Mediterranean and exotic parts of Africa. The culture, hospitality, tastes of food they had experienced is the inspiration for the mezze, 2 generations later the inspiration continues.Situated in the cultural heart of the CBD it’s buzzing handy location is ideal for pre show post clubbing or alternatively an oasis of relief from the city outside with its home away from home ambience they are open from 7am weekdays til late.

What does it offer casual dining simple tasty delectable bites to full meals good selection of wines and beers They have espresso coffee and cakes all made in house displayed at the bar in a glass cabinet to drool over it all looks delicious and available anytime.

The menu caters for all food types vegan, vegetarian and meat lovers What’s great about this menu it’s easy to skim through, prices are affordable and just a pleasure to read. (Mouth-watering ingredients, variety of colourful choices) There is no rush to order as there is no waiting staff… which is ideal if your one of those people who like to change your mind a zillion times LOL. Once a decision is made make your way up to the Bar and pay. Simple as that!

Staff/Service is great, all our orders brought to the table, every plate presented beautifully good size portions and the aromas of spices charcoal grilled veges & meats Amazing Balls.
As we buzzed out over our meals, drinks in hand, chatting, the dream of what the owners had foreseen was alive and well amongst our foodies.

The mains/tapas;
Patatas Bravas roasted paprika potato chunks with tomato salsa aioli:
Mushrooms & Chorizo sizzled with garlic parsley lemon juice side of wood fired bread:
Mini Roasted chicken drums with spicy peanut sauce
Ceviche Tapa white fish marinated in lemon juices coconut cream coriander
Kofte Kebab skewered Turkish meatballs hummus black tahini & spices with hot Turkish bread
Parmesan Polenta chips
All the above dishes and we unanimously approve that it was Seasoned well had the right amount of heat and spices, sauces and breads, great accompaniment, charcoaled just right, elevating its flavours👌

The Desserts;
Carrot cake cream cheese icing
Exotic Algerian date cake side of Greek yogurt
Chocolate buttermilk cake
Berry custard Cake
OML (Oh My Life) every spoonful and bite, creamy, zesty, chocolate-tee Delights! We are regulars at this place and have been so for more than ten years. Today was the first time we have had an issue with it. Have they new staff I wonder? The food came out virtually cold - usually it is sizzling and diners are told to be careful not to touch the platter for fear of getting burnt! Today it was as if everything had been ready prepared 30 minutes previously. We didn't complain but we should have done so.

I have been to Mezze Bar before, but the hospitality I got this time was par excellence. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. It was my husbands birthday and they made it special by getting our desert with candles (a surprise to my husband). Anyways there Kofte kebabs were so good and so were there potato wedges for the sides. Would love to go again

Something is not right with the coffee. It has a strong bitter chemical taste. Maybe the machine is running too hot? Melted seals? Struggled through it and was left with an awful aftertaste. Very disappointing.

Lovely place to stop over and stay late on friday night. Their food and drink are very nice. Cant stop eating Lemon cake and regreted to order half sized sangria. Staff are very friendly.

Food: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Overall: 4/5

Really cosy environment and dessert:) the almond tart was amazing. Discovered this place when all the dessert places nearby were all full or only had outdoor seats left
Gourmet Vegetarians
Mezze Bar is a fabulous place to come for tapas and sharing plates- there is decent of vegetarian options to choose from and the dishes are always very tasty. These are a few of my top picks:

Patatas bravas- The potato chunks had a crispy, paprika-y exterior and were soft and fluffy inside. I freaking love potatoes done well (must be the Irish in me) and these were a grand example. They were served with salsa and aioli which were the goods. Only problem was the classic sauce-fried potato ratio but otherwise these were fab, 8.5/10

Feta cheese- The feta cheese came with. quick marinade of lemon juice, dukkah and chilli, and came with bitter black olives and wood fired bread. The bread at Mezze is always delicious - very savoury and fluffy, so we easily demolished this bad boy. 8/10

Roasted carrot mezze- These succulent slithers came slathered in garlic yoghurt, chilli oil and fennel dukkah. I’m not usually a huge fennel fan but it wasn’t too overpowering in this dish, the dukkah really just balanced out the sweetness of the carrots perfectly, 9/10

Caprese twist- This was Mezze’s version of the classic caprese salad. They had the usual tomatoes, basil and buffalo mozzarella but the mozzarella was glazed in a sweet pomegranate balsamic dressing and it came with a nice hunk of Mezze’s famous bread. To be honest I think there’s something glorious about the simplicity of the OG salad, but I did enjoy the heightened flavours of this version, 8/10.

I always like having lunch at Mezze. The food is of good quality and I think the prices are just right! The Moroccan mint tea is fabulous and I also recommend the savoury muffins :p

Being a fan of both alleyway's and food alike :P Mezze bar stood out for us as a must try!

While the decor and ottoman themed stylization of the place works and makes for an awesome lunch where you feel like you've left Auckland, the food didnt quite follow.

Unfortunately we were left rather underwhelmed by their odd take on an Eggs Benedict (maybe it's my fault for not trying something new).

Overall, wouldnt rush back but lets not rule it out.

Down Durham Lane just a stone’s throw away from Chancery Square, I came here on a recommendation from a friend who lives next door. We had breakfast here one morning & it was interesting because I instantly picked up Latin vibes, not so much from the decor but more so from the typical Spanish-style split complementary colour scheme they had going on. However the menu suggested otherwise, with more of a Mediterranean influence. The maple French toast was great, there was nothing fancy about it...just some good old French toast with a caramelised banana, berry compote & a side of bacon. The service was great, it’s peaceful here in the mornings which is nice if you’re looking to dip somewhere quiet, away from the city racket. It’s not hard to see why my mate comes here after a big night out.
Coffee Macarons
The tea and atmosphere was good. But the coffee was not so great.. The almond tart and the tea is highly recommended. No parking near by. Romantic atmosphere with comfortable chairs in corner.

This is our go to place for a work lunch. The lunch menu is good, I’ve had the grilled chicken salad and the fish and chip butty. The fish butty was amazing and so so tasty! I always get the peach ice tea too and it’s very refreshing. Good ambiance and a lovely place to catch up with friends!
Floyd Moratti
A nice place to chill and have lunch with a good variety of healthy food. The coffee is average but the place is comfy with a nice vibe that’ll make you wanna stay all day. It’s a order at the bar, self service water kind of place, but that adds to lounginess. Lazy Sunday at Mezze Bar.
SpoonMe
Came here for Father’s Day last year. Having heard good things I thought it would be a nice place to take my dad.
With dimmed lighting and old school furniture it had a cozy vibe which was nice.
We ordered the polenta chips which were horrible. They were chewy and nothing near crispy, just bland and rubbery.
For my main I got a chicken salad which was better but it was something I could have made at home and it was not cheap. The only thing that was okay was the desserts and it wasn’t anything special.
The service wasn’t that great either. The waiter seemed very unfriendly and just made my whole experience there worse.
Also I was confused whether if it was table service or not and the server took ages to come over so I ordered at the till which is fine but if I am paying close to $100 for two drinks two mains and an entree I’d expect it to be table service. (We paid more for dessert afterwards)
I wouldn’t recommend this place and i definitely won’t be coming back here considering the food was below average and the staff were not friendly.

Mezze bar is like the central perk couch in friends... our trusty go to for Friday night drinks, girlfriend pick-me-ups, birthdays and any occasion meet ups! This time we went and tested out their lemon tart and chocolate butter milk cake. Oh my - Devine. Moist, sweet but not sticky. The lemon is a light and delightful tart and the chocolate is a lovely creamy dream, will be back for the rest of the dessert menu!

Edit - we came back for tiramisu and date pudding, mind blowingly amazing!
Rob
Good atmosphere and perfect spot for coffee or afterwork drinks along with a few tapas to share.
It's also a perfect place to have a proper meal too.
Food 24/7
Good atmosphere and friendly Staff.
Unfortunately the food is below average and way over priced. The $15 meatball was a huge disappointment, 5 small dry meatballs with soggy left over bread ...

Not recommended for food but maybe causal drinks after work ..
Benedict Uy
Came by for a congratulatory drink. They have quite a few options for both food and drinks. We ended up sharing a few carafes of the sangrias. They had red, white and rose and offer and we tried them all, my favorite was the white sangria. We also had a few tapas to share. The ceviche was quite fresh. I also quite liked the polenta chips although wasn't a fan of the feta dip. The patatas bravas was ok. Portions were small but I was already expecting that for tapas.

I would be interested in trying their other dishes for dinner next time like the meat skewers.

It was quite a comfy and relaxing place which didn't get too loud so we were able to converse. Only thing I didn't like was that you had to get up to order at the bar. We did book a table and had it for 3 hours since there was a booking after us.

I ordered mushroom and chorizo on toast.

There was no mushroom sauce on the toast. Just salty sauteed mushrooms, burnt chorizo and burnt toast for $19.

Rude service also. Cannot understand the accent of 2 waiters who served us and they told us to rudely "move our hand" before rushing to shove plate on the table
Allan Chan
Hey guys quite disappointed for what I paid for. The toast was burnt, 5 dollars for just 2 strips of bacon. The meal looked very boring compared to my friends meals. Poor food for the price.

An amazing and beautiful bar to dine at during day or night! Mezze Bar is my all time favourite place for desserts and coffee! Cakes cannot be munched on without coffee! During my first visit, my friends and I ordered the Carrot Cake, Chocolate Buttermilk Cake, and Almond Tart. My second visit, I ordered the Lemon Tart and Orange Almond cake? (I forgot the name of it). The carrot cake was so nice, the cream cheese icing covering the cake wasn't as sweet as I thought it'd be! The Chocolate Buttermilk was probably my favourite out of the three. You could tell it was moist, and the chocolate wasn't overpowering, which was perfect. The Almond Tart was sticky and crunchy, I wouldn't recommend it. As for the Lemon Tart and Orange Almond Cake; a bit on the sweet side. You really need coffee to balance the sweetness! I also got to try their Tapas; the Potatas Bravas! The potatoes were cooked nicely and went really well with the sauce!

We use to come to Mezze for our morning work meetings. Really relaxed place with lots of seating. Found the food to be a little inconsistent at times though.
Tried out the dinner menu last Saturday night, first time here in the evening. Great atmosphere, the place was buzzing, really busy. They really have the lighting right, dimmed lights and the use of candles on the tables too which really set the mood for evening drink catch-ups. Comfy and cosy, the perfect place to while away a few hours. Great selection of tapas, lots to choose from as well as separate gluten free and vegetarian menus too. The girl at the bar was really lovely as well. Just a heads up, you do have to order at the counter - no table service here.

Tiramisu was soft and creamy goes well with iced americano. Loved the ambience and decor. Recommends for couples and friends. Tried chocolate cake last time and it was absoulte deli

I enjoyed my breakfast. The place is so nice and relaxing. The food is good too. Staffs were very polite and friendly. Will come back to try the other desserts next time.

Mezze bar is an ideal option for lunchtime coffee, client meetings, post-work drinks, and larger parties. The Mediterrenean inspired establishment is more bar than restaurant in terms of the vibe - fast-paced, buzzing, and vibrant throughout all hours of the day, with its star focus being their tapas and wine selection. With that being said, although the food is tasty, it is not the main attraction of this inner city gem.

PROS:

• The atmosphere is exciting, vibrant, and inviting. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by the hubbub and activity of people enjoying themselves. The unique charm of the warm tones, wooden furniture, and soft cushion accents captures the feeling of comfort and cosiness.
• The selection of wines, beers, and cocktails makes it ideal for casual drinks over nibbles and tapas for both small and larger parties. Tapas style is great for those who like to share, but not so much if you prefer a traditional one-plate meal.
• Mezze bar has an extensive selection of homemade cakes and desserts in the cabinet which makes it a great stopover after dinner if you're particularly craving that tiramasu or chocolate torte.
• The late opening hours can have you whittling away the hours with friends and family - good fun!

CONS:

• Great tapas but average meals. I had the lamb burger with homemade ovenbaked chips (additonal $6.50 to add below average, soggy chips) with aioli sauce. While the below picture surely looks inviting, I feel as though for the steep price of $26 that I have had, and can find, a better tasting burger for much less the cost. The same can be said for a range of other meals I have had here in the past and my opinion about the food quality has not shifted much in that time.
• As already alluded to, the price of food here can be quite expensive and can add up quite quickly. As such. It is more suitable for larger groups intending to share to order many dishes as a group and split the cost.
• Slow service should be expected. This place gets really busy and although there are many floor staff, there is only one chef so don't arrive starving, especially during peak hours.
• It is prepay. Now, don't get me wrong, I beleive there is a place for prepay payment options, however, in the case of Mezze bar, I think it cheapens the overall feeling of the place. It is also inconvenient for groups of people to head up to the cashier one by one to order their things while someone stays behind at the table to reserve their spot. This also makes it difficult to multi order and split the tab unless you all order at the same time and hope your table hasn't been taken by the time you finish ordering.

All in all, Mezze bar is a great place if you set the correct expectations before your arrival. This will ensure you get the best out of your experience.

R.

My husband and I have stumbled upon this slightly hidden gem just looking for a place to have an enjoyable lunch. We love trying to places, but being open to being disappointed always comes with this mindset. Mezze Bar has been our regular stop when in the city and has always been consistent in its delivery of beautiful, quality, honest and scrumptious food that makes you feel like you’re on holiday in Europe during summer, right there. Enjoy!

I tend to visit Mezze Bar almost once a week. The slices never fail to amaze me: my all time fave is the buttermilk chocolate cake with cream, but the almond tart is just as sweet and delicious and I get this whenever I'm not in the mood for chocolate.
I've only tried the Tapa menu for dinner, at first I was expecting these dishes to be tiny - but they are actually quite decently sized. The fish ceviche is wonderful and has a very addictive refreshing taste and the chorizo mushroom tapa is hearty and nice for winter as well.
They have various selections of wine (Sangria shown in first photo) and tea (Camomile Tea shown in second photo) to choose from to cater for everyone. No wonder its buzzing with diners at any day of the week!

Nice and warm atmosphere. I get a tiramisu everytime I visit Mezze Bar. Soft, moist layers of coffee-infused cake. I've also tried their affogato and it was really nice too. Like how when you order a large hot chocolate, they give it to you in a very very big cup haha :)
Vita
We don't often come to Mezze Bar for their meals, only the hot chocolate, chai latte and oh.. their mind-blowingly delicious Orange Almond Cake which is gluten and dairy-free. I highly recommend this light, fluffy cake as a treat or to share. They have a range of different cakes in the cabinet; their Belgian chocolate cake is decadent and great for chocolate lovers.
Tina Lee
Good sangrias, but the food is hit or miss. I've been a few times and certain dishes (like the chorizo and mushrooms, gambas, chicken liver pate, lamb burger) are quite good while others (ceviche, tagine, lamb skewer) were ok but not fabulous. Service is slow too, though you can't really blame the poor wait staff since the restaurant is always packed and they definitely do try their best.

Whenever i go city at night, i go Mezzy bar for drinks. Today i had hot chocolate. was really big lol i love this space. Just middle of city n quiet inside.

Had the vegan mezze lunch plate today which was so delicious and filling. I loved the eggplant, the carrots and the hummus. I also love the ambience, it's such a warm and cosy place to hang out and chill.

Mezze has a great atmosphere both for lunch and dinner. Dishes are familiar but authentic and full of flavour. They do great dessert cakes, coffee and other extra treats.
Foodaholic
very crowded and noisy but neat and organised and the staff were friendly.we ordered lamb skewers, chicken kebabs and mezze lamb burger with a couple of beers. there was nothing exceptional about the food but it was tasty and presented well.

Had a birthday dinner here with friends. Lots of us didn't even know this place existed because the entrance is tucked away.

The tables weren't big enough to squeeze 12 of us in so it was a bit tight. Service was pretty efficient, drinks were served in a timely matter and dishes cleared as needed.

Great for sharing with lots of people.

Highlights:
The grilled carrots was delicious. The flavours were really good and the carrots were cooked to perfection.
The hummus, spreads and dips were amazing! Especially with the abundance of Turkish bread.

Not so highlights:
The chicken nibbles were too dry for my liking.
The potato frittata lacked seasoning and flavour.
I wasn't a big fan of the polenta chips.

They have a display cabinet with cakes ranging from $7.50 to $11.50 a slice.

Absolutely love this place! I could eat their market fish and lemony couscous everyday... And the flaky chocolate cake is to die for. Great vibes and good food...
STRADS
For small dishes, we had garlic & chilli prawns with Turkish bread, garlic mushrooms with chorizo sausages, mini roasted chicken drums, and ceviche tapa (white fish marinated with lemon juice, coconut cream & coriander. For the mains, my wife had grilled lamb skewer with salad, hummus, & lavash flatbread, and I had a fish dish grilled in Moroccan herb with couscous & salad. All dishes were good in taste & nicely plated. Prawns with Turkish bread were beautifully cooked & was my favourite dish of the day.
(Food - 4/5; Service - 4.5/5; Ambience - 3/5)
Visited on 11 Feb 2018

Only tried their drinks and sweets here so far, but I really loved their iced coffee and iced mocha. I love the scoop of ice cream in it! I need to come back and try from their food menu next!

Came here for brunch. Ordered the Eggs Benedict with salmon. Coffee was nice, but the 30 minute wait after that for my food wasn’t. The salmon and hollandaise were nice but both poached eggs were pretty much hard boiled which let the whole meal down. Really disappointing because I usually love coming to this place, but I won’t be in a hurry to come back.
Emma
Not sure where to begin with this review. Came here with a group of 5 people for a nice dinner. The service was lovely, you pay at the counter before dining which is fine. Our orders were a bit complicated as we were splitting the bill 3 ways in a non even fashion so it took a few minutes to sort it out but the cashier was patient and accommodating. However after a roughly 20-30 minute wait, a waiter comes to our table with a salad dish that we didn’t order (the original order was a burger with fries) asking if it was still okay as he pressed the wrong button while ordering (he did repeat our order back to us when we were at the counter correctly). We didn’t really want to make a fuss so we said that it was fine. Then the fries that were ordered on the side never arrived until we mentioned it again to the waiter who graciously did give them to us after a short while. Overall the experience wasn’t necessarily a bad one, a few miscommunications I suppose. The staff remained polite and cheerful so the problems were fairly easily resolved. The food itself was pretty decent which is why the rating is still pretty high.

This is by far one of my favorite spots in Auckland and I’ve had consistently great experiences every time I come to eat here. The food is right up my alley and I love the setting, which is a very comfortable and casual Euro-Mediterranean look and feel. Perfect for lazy “mezze” eating while watching the day and traffic go by through the windows.

I want to say a specific thank you for the chef who made my favorite gambas, when it was no longer available on the menu. It was delicious and perfectly cooked and that aioli- indescribably tasty. For main, I had the ceviche which again was perfect, although I totally gorged myself on it.
My partner had the egg, chip and bacon sandwich, which was what its supposed to be. Coffee afterwards was just right. Though this place may seem a bit pricey, you’ll be definitely satisfied, as it’s worth what you pay for.

Came here with my colleagues.
Nice cosy bar with refreshing sangria and drinks.
Friendly staff, crazy DJ, nice atmosphere, good location.
Did not eat there though.

Came here for a simple dinner and loved the atmosphere and food. If you walk further inside you will have couches that are available to sit in, super comfortable for catch ups. I ordered a beef kebab dish and it was super filling and delicious. The tastes are great and flavourful, definitely worth the price. Special mention to their orange cake which is really delicious.

Came here for brunch and it was great. The atmosphere is intimate yet friendly. The staff are all attentive and make sure to meal check. The food is presented nicely and the portions are very decent.

Lovely tapas, and drinks menu. Ambiance is great, always buzzing, whether in the evening or at lunch. Dairy free options are pretty great as well, which is always a nice surprise.

Great place for a first date or the catch up with the special one. The atmosphere is intimate yet informal and the food is really good. Theres good service too and players are great to share. Nothing negative to say!

I feel like my obsession with this place will never end. I've brought so many people here and they've all fallen in love with it too! Situated above Queen street, it has the chillest vibes in town, and easily transitions you from coffee, lunch, afternoon snacks to dinner and drinks. I definitely spend at least a few hours here whenever I pop in.

The menu isn't huge but is always really high quality. The coffee is good but their teas are definitely a high point. Would definitely also recommend their cocktails/sangria's.

The staff are always really lovely and friendly, have never waited long for an order and am checked up on without it being too over bearing.

Thom
Lovely and cosy place for either day or evening dining.
I personally prefer it for brunches. Although if they are busy it is still such a great atmosphere and lots of daylight. Great coffees too. Wide range of items on the menu for brunch or dinner. I see the same staff a lot and they are lovely.

Has a small dinner here on a Thursday evening and it was buzzing but we were greeted and seated promptly. Had the koftka meatballs and chorizo plus mushroom dish between two and it was very filling. Each dish came with a piece of ciabatta as well that was good for soaking up sauces and dipping in hummus. Great flavours! Will be back

Ive passed this restaurant many a time but hardly thought of giving it a try until this week. Well i must say i was pleasantly surprised. I don't give much credit to Mediterranean food (sorry! It's pretty basic by my standards) but i can't fault Mezze for tryinh to give their menu a slight modern twist (eg beautifully stacked polenta chips was a delight). However, being located right in the middle of the city - you'd expect to pay slightly higher prices for food served.

Service was average, ambience pleasing. Only comment I have is the need to give their tables a good wipe as they were pretty sticky to the touch (and slightly stinking of stale beer). A bit like what you'd expect from your local bar but not an established Mediterranean spot in the middle of the city like Mezze.

Another regret i have is not trying out their dessert (we were stuffed as). Their dessert menu and options in the cabinet looked pretty delish.
Flora
Simple lunch here, really popular in heart of the city. I like the way they cook potato chips, and the sauce for the burger is yummy too. The pulled meat is well cooked. Chicken drum tastes juicy and salad is friendly to everyone. The service is average. Because of the number of customers, you need to wait a while until the food is served. For the food, i will recommend my family and friend to come here.

Easily to be found in this short lane. Will try the drinks next time.

I used to come here when I was in high school 10 years ago. And they still have the same food, same vibe. And I couldn't be happier. Tapas are incredible - my favourite has always been the mushroom w chirizo; Sangrias are vibrant; craft beers are a must; and it doesn't matter that they have only a small selection of desserts because they're all delicious. It's the ultimate place to do a chill Friday evening with some swag.
Charmaine
Late Friday evening dinner. I had the Spanish meatballs. No photos as it was quite dark, but I loved the tomato sauce that the balls came in. It had a deep and sweet tomato flavour, quite well developed. Served with cubed and toasted bread, so that the sauce did not go to waste. It's a wonderful place to go to for tapas/drinks/desserts. I've had countless catch ups and hangouts here over dinner or dessert and drinks ever since I was introduced to this place during uni some years back. Seats range from high table/chairs, normal tables/chairs, large/small tables, square/round/rectangular tables, to both hard and soft seating. So many options, such an eclectic collection, but works so well together. Good service too, and not stingy with alcohol ;). Once time we ordered sangria the whiskey in there was much stronger than I would have expected. This place is always the first place I think of when I want drinks/tapas.

The atmosphere in Mezze is very calming and a nice place to rewind and chill for the night. Even though it was quiet, it was hard to get the attention of wait staff which was a bit annoying. However, the staff are very friendly when you're able to get their attention. The Za'atar Chicken Burger was perfect. The portion size was big so it left my partner feeling satisfied and he has a big appetite. The agria fries that came with the burger were roasted and cooked to perfection. I had the Ceviche Salad and I personally did not enjoy it. Very sour and the fish tasted a bit slimy and overall the texture was not appetising. However, that is a personal preference. Both meals were presented perfectly and food quality is good

Mezze bar

Mezze bar has a great vibrant atmosphere and is nice during winter, as it's warm and cosy inside. It does get quite noisy and full of chatter, so it can become a little hard to talk.

The food here is great (apart from the baklavas that I had, which was a little soggy). My go to dish would be lamb Koftas and the almond tart. I'd recently tried their Turkish apple tea and it's my new favourite drink there.

Rochelle Holland
Love the decor and the atmosphere. It's tucked away on Durham St and surprisingly spacious inside. I had been there for afternoon tea with a friend and then had lunch there with my mum recently. I had the Kofte Kebab, she had the smoked chicken salad and we shared a slice of carrot cake. The cake was delicious, lovely and moist. I really enjoyed the kebab, the presentation was awesome and the flavours were great, all the spices came together really well.
Overall we had a good experience here, it's a nice place to hang out and have a bite to eat
Tastebud Tingles
One of my all-time favorite places - warm and inviting, it's cosy interiors make it ideal for catching up with friends over coffee and cake. Their cakes are to die for, and they have so many delicious options. I've tried them all and they are all a-m-a-z-i-n-g. The crunchy almond tart is my favorite and the lemon one was also mind blowing-ly good. Needless to say, their service is always fantastic too.

One of the usual haunts and for good reason. Great cosy atmosphere, excellent service (although you do have to order from the bar which is a bit of a pain if you're seated outside).

Really good place to go alone or with friends, easily accommodates larger groups without feeling crowded and the menu is vast - lots of healthy options, hot/cold dishes, something to suit everyone. Pictured here I ordered the smoked chicken salad with halloumi - it's a lot larger than it looks portion wise and was generously adorned with chicken, almonds, avocado, vine tomato and basil. The tapas are also delicious and well priced, the Mezze lunch platter in particular goes great with a few mohitos!

Which brings me to the drinks menu - love love love the sangria. They also serve Miller's coffee here, delicious. Make sure you try some of the tiramisu or one of the delicious display cakes while you're at it. Berry and custard cake is the bomb.
Anna K
Absolutely love this place! Came here for the first time for dessert. The atmosphere is cozy with dimmed lighting. Perfect place to hide away on a rainy day for dessert or for a romantic dinner. We ordered the tiramisu and chocolate buttermilk cake, which were both super delicious. Best part was the flavor as they weren't too sweet but definitely a treat. The pricing is good too, would definitely recommend!

A friend introduced me to this place.Food was better than what I expected.I ordered a tomato salad that had fresh mozzarella cheese, basil, basil pesto with a EVOO drizzle. Also got the grilled polenta stack. The food was amazing, nice flavours and filling.Did not realized I had a vegetarian mean until I finished.
Mabusta
I love it . They made a nice coffee. Stuffs are very good. I went there in the evening. I had coffee and my friend had chocolate.

It was good

This place is quite a hidden gem upstairs. Wine is great and the food is always delicious, and service is excellent. Staff are very attentive. Always a joy to go back. Highly recommended. Try to avoid peak times as it can fill up fast and you miss out on a table.

Me and my girlfriend went here last week as we both wanted to try something new, the environment is nice and welcoming, music in the background etc. Though it's more of a cafe and less of a restaurant but still nice regardsless, she had the chicken Caesar salad and I had the mezze lamb burger, she cleared her plate and I left a few pieces of my burger but other than that it was really nice, not as good as other places we've been to but still a solid 7/10, the halloumi cheese wasn't as bad as my last experience was with it but however the drinks we got tatsed off other than these faults it's still a nice place to go if you want to try some Mediterranean cuisine
Diogo Reck
Nice place if you are into the wonderful Spanish cuisine. Menu has a lot of options, vegetarian, seafood, meat, lamb, and more for a reasonable price. The tortilla espanhola is delicious, well served for one, simple and well executed. Coffee is ok.

The place is nice, spacious and with comfortable chairs. Service is ok.
Bella Qian
Went there for an afternoon snack and was not disappointed. We tried their mint tea and apple tea which they served on traditions Turkish trays. For food we tried their chicken liver pate and meatballs which both were amazing. The chicken liver pate was perfect on top of their crunchy home made bread. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit.
Jessica
Went here for a date night with my partner and I are the placed was packed, so I got excited thinking that if it was busy it must be great. But I was disappointed. We shared a few tapa items on the menu and nothing really stood out to me as being really yummy. Wouldn't bother going back, so many more options in the CBD that I would prefer to go back to for a date night.
Aimee R
Had heard great things about this place, but the food just wasn't that great to me. The place itself is lovely with great ambience, staff were helpful too. We ordered tapas to share, all were pretty bland and went cold quickly. I definitely appreciated the gluten free choices though, so if I return I would try a main. Maybe it was just a bad night?
Hungusmcfatty
A versatile spot with a lively vibe and wide appeal. Mezze isn't the newest hot spot but offers warmth and character. The wine list is interesting.

My favourite working lunch spot. I often come here specifically for the ceviche- it's that good. So good I get quite disappointed when they have sold out, but hey that's how you know it's fresh right! Love the food, the atmosphere and the service
Janice Bryner
I have been to Mezze several times over the years and failed to write any sort of review. I am a frequent visitor from Perth and Mezze has been one of my favourite places to eat for breakfast. Staff have always been friendly and accommodating and I've always found the food and drinks to be perfect. Looking forward to visiting again soon.
Paul O
Mezze is such a great space that I find myself popping in at all times of the day - I don't think there are many places in Auckland that you can say that about. Yes, the menu is looking a little tired at times and some tapas don't provide great value for money but the consistency of food and service sees it through. Saying that, I was disappointed to see lemon subbed for lime in my Cuba Libre without an explanation - it just isn't the same....!
Mary Underwood
I hadn't been here for years. I loved the mezze platters then but ventured in this morning not realising they did breakfasts.
First of all the layout. Very rustic in appearance, stripped pine tables massive open Windows overlooking queen street.
I wasn't sure of staff come to you as from memory I recall ordering at the counter.
Waited a few minutes but was nice for staff to acknowledge the wait. Very friendly.
I didn't want to order off the menu so just chose scrambled eggs and bacon.
Eggs seasoned to perfection and so much bacon. Served with a spicy tomato chutney with a hint of cinnamon. Tasted amazing.
Vivi S
I know!! I went again!! I will always go back, until I find another favourite. It won't be for a while though, because I am waiting patiently for their Winter menu to come out. After the Japanese dinner the girls and I came here for dessert. We tried three different kinds of cakes - almond, chocolate mud, and berries/choco.
Glenn Town
We had a family celebration here a few weeks back
Nice and relaxed
Lovely wines and beers
Some shared platters which were excellent
An ideal venue for this type of occasion
Robert Liong
This place is awesome. Modern interior, friendly waiters, I can sit for hours & doesn't matter about time spent.
They serve good coffee & cakes.
Ivayla Tzvetkova
Amazing atmosphere, super service, great menu choices and Delish cakes!! Went for a glass of wine after work and will be back again. Really cozy atmosphere as well to relax with you journal or a magazine for some alone time.
Bill Oliver
Excellent evening meal location, the food was very good and well presented, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I would recommend you book a table as we did as this is obviously a very popular venue.
Javier Yebenes
Mezze is a fantastic place to get lunch during weekdays or an afterwork wine. The venue is large but there'sa very cozy vibe that make you feel at home.

Service is always outstanding and the staff is very personable. You can definitely trust your waiter recommendations.

The wine and food selection at this place is very good and is a good restaurant for a work lunch, dinner date or group tapas dinner.

Very recommended! Try the hot tapas platter.

This is one of my favourite spots in the CBD, it's consistently good and I love those big windows. My daughter fell in love with their chocolate buttermilk cake many years ago, so much so that I had to hunt down a recipe for it. Today we called in for a light lunch, two cafe cortados and a huge slice of the chocolate cake. Also the Turkish lentil soup which was served with lovely warmed pide bread. Couldn't fault a thing.
Stella Lin
Definitely my fav Latin bar!!!Had a wonderful time there with my friend Claire.
Service
The waiters are nice and kind in short. The one who served us spoke English with slight Spanish accent, which is appealing lol. We talked for a short time and that was great.
But one drawback is they should serve the food more quickly.
Food
88 out of 100. We enjoyed it so much.
Atmosphere
It's like we sank into orange lights. Soft lights, elegant music...I love the whole environment. Here is not noisy and it's appropriate for customers to talk freely.
Wine
We drank rose wine, sherry and odyssey. Amazing.
Location
It hides on a branch of Queen street. Say it's just beside Farmers would be more accurate. Not that difficult to find.
Don't miss out!!
Lazypandah
We ordered an upside down plum cake which was amazing!! Their freshly whipped cream went really well with the cake too! I highly recommend this cake if you see it!! Another recommendation would be their Wanaka Rd pinot noir!! Superb aroma and flavour!!

Read more + more photos on my blog

We've been coming here for years and enjoyed it.

Unfortunately a recent experience at Mezze was disappointing.

The highlight of our visit was the ceviche, which had beautiful flavours and a lovely lightness.

We also ordered the meatballs. These were tasty enough -in particular the rich tomato sauce- but lacked the peas and carrots that usually give great texture and flavour to comparable plates of meatballs.

Finally, we ordered the platter of dips and breads. Advertised as coming with 5 dips, it arrived with only 4, one of which tasted like nothing more than aioli with some anchovies on the side. The hummus was bland and the beetroot dip was similarly uninteresting. Unfortunately, the bread that came with this dish was warm in places only, like it had only been warmed on one side. It was also dry -a splash of oil would not have gone amiss. This plate was incredibly disappointing -bland overall and overpriced.

It is somewhat of a shame that Mezze bar sticks to bar service, which makes their customer service more DIY than friendly and helpful. We have had good experiences here in the past, but our last visit just didn't measure up.

We came here for lunch and were instantly attracted to the beautiful interior decorating. My partner and I both ordered the mezzo plate which consisted of beautiful carrots, eggplant, tomatoes, olives, hummus and bread. I had the vegan version which I ordered off the dedicated vegan menu, and my partner had the original with haloumi. It was light and a delicious taste sensation with all the different flavours.
Paris
Lovely fresh tasty cakes and tiramisu! Also very flavoursome spiced middle eastern food! However very oil heavy! But still tasty especially the spiced fish, chicken, lamb, falafel dishes and great place for cheaper lunch. Lentil Dahl very tasty too! But tiramisu is one of the best in town!
Thegreeats
I don't know about their food but their cabinet cakes are so good !
Their buttermilk chocolate cake and almond tart is to die for
Served with a heap of cream this indulgent treat just takes me away 😍
Priced reasonably and in the heart of CBD
At night the atmosphere is very romantic with their candles and wooden tables
Definitely recommend if you've had dinner and looking for a place for dessert in town

Food was great, we had the ceviche fish. The lemon tart was amazing.
Service was quick and friendly, excellent place to meet wig friends or family for a great meal and coffee.

This place has been around for yonks, I used to frequent this place when I was a uni student & hold quite fond memories here of my friends and I. The food is nice and the atmosphere is relaxed and staff are friendly. Tapas and dessert is what you come here for, with some tea served in quirky teapots.
Auckland Food Tours
Had a quick lunch here. The menu is quite extensive (more than above) and they have a separate bar/tapas menu if you want something lighter, but you only see this menu at the bar (or maybe if you ask for it?)
We had the chicken salad and a mix mezze plate which were both very tasty.
The food was delivered quite quickly and the staff are very friendly.
It has a nice atmosphere in that it has subdued lighting which is lovely but maybe the staff need to go that extra step of telling patrons about what's available as its not immediately obvious.
R
Lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff and very prompt service.

Loved the vibe and the deco.

Been here twice now with friends just for drinks though.

Really nice and cozy spot.
Jenny Da
Lovely atmosphere for a late lunch. We ordered a Greek salad and a smoked chicken salad which came in decent sized portions. The wait staff were super nice and food was delivered promptly. Everything was nicely presented. The cake cabinet was so tempting too! Must try next time

Had a farewell for my boss last week on a Thursday lunch time. It was very busy, the queue was long to order. I thought because of this, the food would take ages. Instead the queue time was minimal, the time it took to get my lunch was short AND the food was AMAZING!! I had the lamb burger - one of the best burgers I have ever had!! I also took my 9m old there. Apart of the stairs to the entrance of the bar, it was quite baby friendly. Plenty of space to move the pram. Thanks Mezze Bar
G
Asked a friend to suggest a place and she suggested Mezze Bar, saying 'they have good cake'. Soooo true!!! This orange cake was amazingly good! This place is rather hidden though so you might walk past it without knowing! But definitely worth trying
Suzanne
Have been here often at different times of the day. Love the hours. Great atmosphere for a place in the inner city it is another haven to stop and recharge in. Serving such a variety of items could be a problem but not here everything is done well, very good quality and value for money. I always feel like I've had a good treat here. The music is great too. Also the staff are welcoming and attentive what more could you want!
A
Always order too much food because there are so many options and want to try everything. Great for big groups of people so you can share tapas, and alot of vegetarian options. It's annoying that you have to go up to the counter to order, and the staff are slow at clearing plates, but overall- amazing selection of savoury and sweet foods.
Shelly
Food here is always good, i love the bread and dip platters, which is what I always order. Service is average. My friend also loves the caesar salad. They have alot of seating also!
Jenane Jenny Krishnaraj
Our usual place for a late night hot drink and dessert. But dining here is a good idea also. The chicken risotto is the bomb, moist and citrusy. Prices are a little bit on the high side.
Lily
It was a nice place. It's a good idea to book a table so you wouldn't have to sit next to the kitchen. I liked the food. But I didn't enjoy the vodka martini served at the bar. Side dishes are small, so if you are not alone there, you might want to order the complete dish. The carrot cake, with the Turkish Apple tea was a nice mix. The waiters are fast and friendly. I liked the roasted potato and the hummus.
HJ
Highlight of the night was definitely the lamb burger, succulent and tender pulled lamb with a haloumi cheese plus a bunch of other things that just work together really well. Would recommend. However half a point was lost due to some of the chips being undercooked. Nice spot tucked away off the main streets. Will be back to try more from the menu!
Cazza Holland
Hav been here twice and had very different experiences. Lunch time the food is more bland and takes far too long to arrive. Dinner time it's Yummy full of flavour and prompt food arrival.
KST
Awesome atmosphere, amazing food, friendly staff, and a good selection of drinks.

Expect to try several different sharing platters. Each with its own unique flavour, nearly presented and cooked just the way they're meant to be.
Mike Avery
An oldie but a goodie! Has been around for ages but so have we. Consistently delivers great relaxed atmosphere, yummy food & wine. Hard to beat for a casual but guaranteed good night out.
Lucia Park
Mezze is one of the easiest places to catchup with a big group of friends in the city. They open from morning to late at night - convenient for that lunch meet up or the drinks after work. I had the tagine tapa - a Moroccan lamb casserole. It was perfectly seasoned and the herbs and spices married with the lamb so well! (I ordered the pita bread on the side too and it was the perfect accompaniment). They also have a wide selection of cakes and tarts that I can never seem to resist. Their carrot cake with cream on the side did not fail to impress me. Love the dark rustic interior in the evenings with lit candles on each of the tables.
Justine Weake
All the food here is delicious. I've come here quite a few times now because it's not too far from uni and every time I've come here I've enjoyed the food. I usually get a BLT, which is divine, and the flat whites are hot and not too strong for me. The service is good and the place is big so you're always guaranteed a table.
Farshid Hakimi
For a start it take 20min to have 3 meal.
We ordered one of the food with no spinach.
Once they brought the food it was with extra spinach.they need to work on the kitchen and running food to the front a lot more.
How ever they have had such a friendly customer service and they have a amazing chocolate cake.
Victoria
I love this place! So far to find somewhere with lots of loungy space, that's open late and isn't a noisy bar or club. You can sit here and enjoy a meal, drink/coffee until late, all with a bit of a view out into the city. Very relaxing atmosphere and always very comfortable.
Mark Webster
Had a truly wonderful meal here, with a roast beetroot salad that was filling, delicious and by no means one of those tasteless 'vegetarian option' type meals. Any bar that serves Tuatara Helles lager has to be good in my opinion (tick) and I only regret that I was in too much of a hurry to have a piece of lemon tart afterwards – I'd been eying it up as I ate; it looked divine.

Mezze has been one of my favourite cafes in Auckland CBD for nearly ten years. Nestled in Durham Lane above Glassons it's a warm and comfortable spot to pop into at any time of the day.

In my teens, Mezze was where I'd go with friends when we wanted to be 'out' but couldn't actually go anywhere requiring ID. We'd sit in Mezze drinking Turkish apple tea's (delicious by the way) thinking we were awfully sophisticated.

These days I'm more likely to pop in for a glass of wine and a platter. Either way, Mezze with their fantastic staff and inviting atmosphere has been consistently awesome.

Highlights on the menu for me include the Lentil and Tomato Soup (delicious and filling and quite affordable if you're waiting for pay day) or the Roasted Chicken, served on a bed of Risotto. The mini chicken drums with satay sauce are also rather delectable.

With big tables, small ones, couches and benches, Mezze is great no matter what size group you're joining.

Just going through and doing a few reviews for my favourite places around Auckland and Mezze springs to mind immediately. I have brought many friends to Mezze Bar.. I love the fact it's always busy and at night time it's romantic with the candles and lights down low. I've been for breakfast. Lunch and dinner so it's very flexible. Always good food and friendly service especially Kim!
Nadia Kennington
I've loved this place since the old location. The ambiance is great, the tapas are tasty and the staff are friendly. If only other people would stop sitting on my favourite couch, everything would be perfect!
Michael Dutton
Good food, very accommodating to my dietary needs. Only real negative was the blonde who worked there didn't wash her hands as she left the loo. When I existed after her she was putting her apron back on. #pottyfail
Krishna Brannigan
A buzzing atmosphere down a little lane way and was recommended by the hotel concierge. Kingfish ceviche was delicious and so were all of the breads. A good collection of local wines and a lovely spot to while away the time with free wifi great for travellers.

Mezze bar is one of the best eateries out CBD!! The tapas, desserts and breakfast foods are definitely worth trying out!!!

I highly recommend to try out Moroccan fish dish!!! The flavours are very rich with tomato, spices and couscous. Definitely great to go along with a glass of Sav while you are at it.

The tiramisu is great if you are into the more wine and dark cocoa flavours. The taste is very unique compared to the typical, heavy cream cheese flavour tiramisu. Still rich in flavours but minus the heaviness of the cream cheese.

The chorizo breakfast is definitely worth having a go if you want to try something outside your normal brunch menu. The eggs are very creamy, which complements well with spicy chorizo flavour because of the contrast.

Very generous in portion size is seen all across the dishes and the relaxed atmosphere is great for after work feed,

We always find ourselves at Mezze bar for desert after dinner in the city, glad there is a nice cake place in city thats open till late.
Most of staffs are friendly and welcoming but few unforgettable. I had clearly asked for yoghurt in separate dish but one staff rudely replied "they are always separate" and delivered cake soaked in yoghurt. Love their cakes most of the time but that one staff was a minus.
Sushmita Ann Daswani
I had their cake and it was fairly average, the cake was a little dry. Some of the staff are not so friendly. The ambience of the place was quite nice though.
Claudia Serra
Fantastic food and fantastic staff! Went here more for coffee and a muffin/slice than I did for mains. Used to be a regular but moved jobs so I'm not so close anymore! They knew my order before I asked and the staff are always so friendly. Lovely big space with some comfy couches down the back. Stevia available as well as sugar which is always a plus for me. Love this place :)
Ishita M. Mendonsa
Great food and ambience. Love the vibe out here and the wine list! Highly recommend the seafood on the menu, the feta cheese starters and a few other amazing tapas/ sharing plates.
Eduardo Dias
We went to this place on Saturday night around 06:45pm. I ordered a Cezar salad and my partner has ordered a chicken risotto. We noticed the place was quite bus, but we were quite hungry so we decided to get some snacks (mezze plate) first as we wait for the main. After 30 minutes we ordered we still didn't have the snacks neither the meal. The main arrived 35 minutes later and the snacks never came so we had to cancel it. The place was so noisy you could not hear your own thoughts. The service was horrible and the management really poor.

I do not recommend this place to anyone. Especially on the weekends.
Sungsam7
This is one of my go to places for brekkie and lunch. Eggs bene is great and they always accommodate my slight variation of this meal ie sauce on the side, whole grain toast. Coffee is excellent here. Atmosphere is relaxing even on Friday nights for after work drinkies.
The fish sammie, lamb burger and lentil soup are some of my other faves. The staff are great and always recognize their regulars ??
Rojas
Mezze bat is a great place to go if you're after a relaxing lunch with friends. They have great coffee and salads and the staff are fantastic.
Melody Sujin Lee
Ordered Lemon Tart and chocolate cake. Those two are always the best combination. Lemon Tart was smooth and very nice. Chocolate cake was so nice with Ice Americano. Ginger mohito was a bit sweet but it was alright. Customer service wasn't too bad. Nice music. Good place to catch up with friends. Also loved the candle ??
Shyam Maharaj
Nice food, great atmosphere. Will eat here again :) The Lamb kebabs were well cooked and although it looked like it wouldn't fill me when it came out, with all the accompanying items on the plate it was a very filling meal
Seth Blissworth Baguion
Went here for brunch and it was great. The food was very tasty and were the right portions, not too much and not too little. Loved how there were areas of different seating too. Great service, great food and great atmosphere. Will definitely be back!

We jus happend to go there by chance for breakfast and it really did pay off well... the food ws excellent... the decor was old school and simple yet very calm and relaxing... staff was really good...must try
Nilesh Manihar
Amazing place.. A very good feel you get when you enter. Im a veggie so options were less.. But the food is amazing.. Try the 'Rose Wine Sangria'. A place to visit definitely if you are on a holiday in Auckland!!

I've missed being in such dim lit cafes that have character. This restaurant quenched that thirst.Mezze bar is a jewel in the city.
We had the fish and lamb mains. Both these dishes were mesmerizing.I emptied my plate which is really rare.
The staff is extremely friendly and funny.A combo I love.
Will definitely be visiting again and may be again and a lot more times after.
Marjolein Drenth
Little hidden gem! Good coffee, friendly staff! And great wine! Great place to catch up with friends! Unfortunately, the music gets quite loud so it is hard to understand each other.

Had an amazing dinner at Mezze Bar tonight. As a matter of fact, it is a perfect place for couples to date here cuz the surrounding here is so nice. I have never tried Spanish food before, but after today's meal, I am totally into it.
My boyfriend and my friend both ordered grilled lamb dishes, my girl friend had a soup and I chose the smoked chicken salad. I tried the grilled lamb one and it was cool. It was quite similar to the barbecue but it was much better. The taste was filled in the lamb.
I was satisfied with my order as well. Though it may looked like there was only vegetables(lol), it really tasted good. I highly recommended the cheese in the dish. It was much different from the normal cheese we had and it was amazing. The smoked chicken was tasty as well.
The service here was considerable and the waiters are welcoming. Honesty, the price here was a little bit high. Boys could hardly full up.
Lovely place! Hope to visit next time!

Hidden away in a little alcove on Durham St, Mezze Bar & Cafe serves Mediterranean-style food – cafe meals for brunch and lunch, and tapas for dinner. We came across the place by accident over a year ago, after wondering where the upstairs exit from Whitcoulls led to. That exit has now been closed up, but the cafe can still be accessed through Durham St.

Their brunch menu ends at 3pm and is rather limited, but the few dishes that they do serve are done quite well. I’ve returned time and time again for their Huevos Flamencos ($18.50) – chorizo, spinach, potatoes, and fried eggs served in a sizzling pan with crusty Turkish bread. My partner had eggs benedict with salmon ($18.50) – the hollandaise and eggs were great, but he found the salmon slightly disappointing as he was expecting the usual slices of smoked salmon instead of a big chunk of grilled salmon. We’ve also tried their moorish eggs, toast, and french toast, before – all of which were pretty good.

Service can be a bit hit and miss, and on our most recent visit we ended up waiting 40 minutes for our food. But the place was packed to the brim when we arrived, so it’s fairly understandable. We also enjoyed the Mediterranean-inspired ambience, with the colorful pillows scattered around the couches and little palm fronds for deco. It’s a nice little cafe with a bit of a twist, and we usually return on a semi-regular basis. Haven’t tried the tapas or drinks yet, but we might in the future, as I’ve heard they make a mean sangria.

We love Mezze - it's one of the city's best kept secrets. Lovely Turkish style food - the bread is divine. The wine is very well priced. The cakes are sublime. Turkish delight fantastic.

Mezze Bar is a great place to go to for a work function, a casual lunch or for a spot of cake and coffee. They serve predominantly Middle Eastern food, plus a range of vegan/vegetarian tapas and mezze options. Last but not least, yummy cakes and puddings!

I came here during the week with two colleagues. I had not been to Mezze Bar before, but my two dining companions raved about the delicious food. They both ordered the Smoked Chicken Salad with toasted almonds, vine tomatoes, red pepper, grilled halloumi cheese, fresh herbs and a balsamic vinaigrette ($19). I ordered the Turkish Lentil and Tomato Soup drizzled with lemon juice and paprika oil and served with hot Turkish pide bread ($12.50).

The Turkish Lentil and Tomato Soup was amazing. Perfect balance of spices and the Turkish pide bread on the side was a nice touch. It is also nice to have something warming and delicious in the wintertime! I also tried some of my colleague's Smoked Chicken Salad - the halloumi was to die for and the flavours all worked really well together. Next time, I will definitely be ordering that!

The service is friendly and the atmosphere funky and it is a very happening place. I would recommed this place to all, because there will be something for everyone on the menu! Make sure you book!

Character cafe tucked away in a hidden enclave off Durham Lane that exudes olde worlde charm. Coffees are great, plenty of seating, and always an impressive selection of cakes and slices! Definitely come here if you're on Q St looking for a coffee or just want to have a break. It's also perfect for meetings and groups.

Every time we visit mezze we enjoy our experience. The cafe, bar, restaurant is brimming with ambience and we love the big windows and decor. The menu has a good range of classics and very easy choices for normal and gluten free diners. The polenta and mushrooms makes a tasty lunch. Portions are quite large so watch that eyes are not bigger than your stomach!

Really nice place to relax, good food reasonably priced.
Lots of variety and small as well as large dishes to choose from.

Absolute gem of a place. I really love the decor and mood of the place. Stunning food, I had the French Toast and it's certainly up there in quality. Friendly staff. I stay at City Life Hotel when in Auckland and it's great to be able to walk across the road to such a delightful place with great atmosphere.

I like the atmosphere, and the beverages they have.
I would normally come here for coffee or hot chocolate after having a meal at another place.
Great place to meet friends.
However, the food is not the best, and the male staff is very moody. I've been here many times but that male staff just puts me off.

A good place to meet for a drink in the city, with a decent wine list and a very pleasant environment, not too noisy and with plenty of space. The bar staff are uninterested, sometimes surly, but it all runs efficiently.

The food that I've had has been passable but nothing that I would make a special effort to order. The last thing I ate at the Mezze Bar was a potato tortilla, which was served with a blob of sour cream on top - hardly what you would encounter in Spain, and not very good. But this is essentially a bar, not a restaurant, so it is not realistic to expect good food.

What a fantastic venue for a party. The mezze tapas group menu was awesome. So much fresh and tasty food and the service was above and beyond. 30 guests that could mix and mingle , chill out on the couches or enjoy food at different tables. Highly recommend for food, service, atmosphere and value.

Great place for coffee and cake , drinks and tapas or a meal. Mezze bar has a wonderful atmosphere and great place to go with a group of friends to share a jug of sangria the variety of tapas . It is a little hidden away , but that adds to the charm.
It's a bit of a Jack of all trades covering breakfast through to dinner , but it pulls it off , being the best place to go for so many occasions.

A bit hit and miss on some things but a great atmosphere. I did find it a bit weird that there is no table service as everyone seemed to be eating rather than drinking. Lamb was tough but tasty. Dessert a little bland. Wine a little pricey. The service was quick but not super friendly. I might come back but there are so many other places to try in Auckland.

This place has good food and a cool atmosphere. not many in the city like this I reckon. The staff were pretty good and did a good job considering it was quite busy. Will go back again!

Love this place! Their dishes are great and their coffee especially cappuccino are great too. Love their atmosphere at night.

Great place to go in town for food. I particularly like the Mezze dips with bread and lamb kebabs together which are both delicious and very filling. Food is well presented and quite unique with choices from tapas to filling meals. Service is good and the place has a cozy, relaxed vibe great for any occasion.

Still retains its ambiance but lost its great atmosphere. Been to mezze bar four times over the last 12 months. Last visited on a busy Saturday night. Still has a very mixed group of patrons and the food remains good but the relaxed vibe has gone. Young professional waitresses have gone and food is now brought by less appropriate staff not wanting to answer questions or take further drink/food orders. Feels rather rushed. Normally ourselves and many other customers remain to enjoy after dinner drinks before leaving but this is no longer the case. Seems like mezze bar has been spoilt by its success or possibly new owners/managers. To sum it up I will visit again but did not leave a tip this time

This is one of best places to go in Auckland City.

Great ambience, friendly staffs, delightful beverage options.

Strongly recommend sangria, this is one of place who does proper sangria.

I highly recommend, especially if you've been to Spain and have high expectations or someone who is looking for their new favourite place :)

What a place! A cafe, bar, restaurant, everything you could ask for in a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere, and just in the middle of the city. We went there after work on Friday, and my only regret is not knowing this secret spot before! I surely will be back many other times!!!

I absolutely love this place!

After getting very disappointing patatas bravas and sangria at the Spanish restaurant in Mission Bay, I knew it was time to go back to Mezze.

Great ambience, great service and best of all, delightful food!!! There were 3 of us, and we ordered 4 tapas and 1.5 L of sangria. We got the patatas bravas, feta (came with the most delicious bread), tortilla espanola and the hummus one.

The sangria was exactly how it should be.

The waitress was very patient with us as she split the bill 3 ways, and they were great at taking away dishes one by one as we finished.

I highly recommend, especially if you've been to Spain and have high expectations. This is the best it gets in Auckland :)

Absolutely love this place. Never disappoints.

Great for brunch, a coffee & cake for afternoon tea or tapas style dining in the evening with the girls.

Warm & friendly, this place oozes atmosphere.

Went there for coffee and cake with a couple of friends today.

Coffee good, but the cakes are so so so good! We had the chocolate cake, carrot cake and berry and custard cake. I loved the berry and custard cake, carrot cake not too bad as well! Chocolate cake is ok for me.

Heard a friend say that their tapas and other foods are good too! But will definitely go and try their cakes again! Yum!

Great place for a coffee on one of those rainy days in the inner city that we are about to have lots of soon!

Have been here more times than I can count, as they are the only decent cafe style, sit-and-chat-in-pleasant-surroundings place in the city, really. Love the food (although once it was too salty to eat, when they refunded me) love the desserts, love the space. LOVE the hours, it feels like Auckland is a grown up real city when you can have a coffee after 8 pm. ( that isn't from starbucks/esquires)
You may need to book a space if going between 5.30-8.30. Its really loud, so not so good for some people. You have to order at the counter, and this can take quite some time!
Last time I ran a tab, we moved tables, and instead of looking for us, I discovered when I went to pay that they had just decided we'd left and billed my credit card anyway. I no longer run tabs there.
Dishes start at about $12, and you'll need a couple each. Or just grab coffee or wine, and a piece of the most glorious lemon tart ever. They specialize in sexy young Euro waitstaff, which is nice.

The only place I go for iced coffee. Truly the best in Auckland city - ice cream and real coffee. I've never tried their selection of tea before, but they come greatly recommended by friends. The selection of desserts is impressive, and the buttermilk chocolate cake is delightful.

Wil try their tapas soon!

Excellent ambience and great service too!

This is quite a find and a really fantastic place to have coffee, chocolate, or lunch in town..cosy, good atmosphere, with a bit of a view over Queen St. The food is really good and it's everything a casual bar should be.

The Mezze Bar is one of my favourite places to eat in Auckland. I've been going there almost since it opened, way back when it was next to Real Groovy. While the service can be a little abrupt, the food always comes out fast and is reliably good. A lot of people dislike having to order at the bar, but for me it's a blessing - I can grab a coffee and cake and disappear into a book during the quieter daytime hours and no-one hassles me. The chocolate buttermilk cake is especially divine, and the atmosphere is cosy yet cosmopolitan, with a view of some great, usually unnoticed, Auckland architecture. A home away from home :)

This is my partners favorite place and I LOVE this place now too... Yummy tapas... Great, friendly service... Lovely atmosphere :-)

This is not a quiet restaurant, but who cares, food is GREAT!!!! :-)

Love the vibe in this place, always busy, never full of people young enough to make me feel I should be out with my Zimmer frame! Gotta love that! Auckland clearly appreciates this great little tapas bar with it's extensive wine offerings (by the glass) and scrummy food plates, and why wouldn't they? A firm favourite. Try the Chicken Liver pate - delish!!!!
Orly Bar
the best place in auckland!!!

My boyfriend and I went to Mezze Bar yesterday, a Friday night. It was packed and good to see that they do really reserve tables for people who booked. It's a very casual and lively environment. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly. I ordered Spanish Meatballs and my boyfriend ordered Caesar Salad. It didn't take long for the orders to arrive and they both tasted very good. The portions were just right.

Bear in mind that it's not a place to stay and have quiet talks. It didn't bother us much though because we were going to move on anyway.

Great place. I will definitely go to Mezze Bar again.

good place to go for lunch with a bunch of workmates. had a really good meal there.

Now this is what I call a great restaurant with delicious food. I've tried several meals on the menu, and so far they've all been really great. The different flavours are so well balanced and the Maroccan fish really tasted as if it was from Maroc!

Also the desserts are fantastic!

We went to Mezze Bar last week after seeing some good reviews on here. Luckily we booked a table as it was super busy (being a Friday night), but it wasn't so bad that it ruined the atmosphere of the place, it probably made it cooler!

We went to order 4 dishes but were told 3 would be enough between the two of us.. Thankfully! We ended up ordering the garlic chilli prawns, the mezze plate, which was bread with a selection of dips and tasters, and a lamb dish. Everything was pretty good and we were both full afterwards. We didn't stay for dessert cause we couldn't stomach cake.. But it all looked pretty tempting.

Overall it was a good night and I'm looking forward to going back ASAP!

This bar is nice and cozy. It makes you feel like you are disconnected to the city. The food is average but the place really got me.

My friend recommended this place when we were looking for a quiet place to unwind that late Sunday night. We just finished a late dinner from Red Pepper and were craving for some desserts to end the night. I was amused on how relaxing the place was with very friendly and approachable bartenders. I had a slice of almond tart and because I have that strong sweet tooth, tasted beautifully for me and was paired with another sweet iced chocolate drink.

I was delighted to visit Mezze Bar today, which was tucked away just off Queen Street. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming with a hip vibe. The staff were efficient and helpful, and I was impressed by the number of gluten free offerings on the menu. I ordered the gluten free French Toast with maple caramelised banana, berry compote and bacon, and was not disappointed - every mouthful of my brunch was flavoursome, perfectly cooked and moorish.

I will, without a doubt, be coming back to Mezze Bar for brunch sometime soon!

Just had this for dinner tonight. As always the food was yum, we had tapas and we still managed to get full despite not spending that much. The atmosphere is great, very chilled and is also a great place to go for some quiet drinks after work. Highly recommended for anyone in Auckland CBD.

I was very pleased with Mezze Bar. After a day of walking around the city, my two companions and I were in need of some food for a very late lunch. We ordered three tapas to share amongst ourselves.

One of my companions cannot eat gluten, and when we asked the cashier about gluten free options, she pulled out a big menu. We were very happy! She was very patient, helpful and friendly, even though we took a while to decide on what we wanted.

The food was very good. The hummus looked like it was made in-house and came with tomato salso on top. The patata bravas were delicious, not too spicy, with a chunky tomato sauce and aioli. And the tortilla espanola was great too - Spanish frittata cut into bite-sized chunks, with that yummy aioli again. It was a good feed for the three of us.

The atmosphere was quite relaxed, and it was a nice place to sit down and relax.
