Review Takapuna Beach Cafe - Auckland Central

Avocado mesh with additional salmon~ no merit but no merit. Salmon was quite salty, but coffee was good (foamy). Staff brought up sparkling water that he should have asked beforehand as some people didnt like it.

This is a very pretty cafe. We opted to sit inside because it was a cool day and rain was in the forecast. On a summer's day, the deck would be a fantastic place, with a view of the water. So, we were 4 of us and most of us chose from the All Day Breakfast menu. I had THE Grill (eggs, sausage, bacon..the works). My nieces had the folded eggs & eggs with grilled mushrooms. My sister chose to have a Waygu Beef burger. We enjoyed the food a lot. The Grill ended up being enormous. I could only manage to eat a small portion and had to doggie bag the leftovers. Definitely a hearty dish for a guy! Would recommend this cafe...good service: very friendly and efficient, great ambience and good food.

🅿️ There are numerous roadside parking lots nearby, but on holidays, they tend to get crowded, making it a bit challenging to find a parking spot! At the entrance, we noticed many customers and thought we would have to wait a long time for a table. However, it turned out that most of them were ordering for takeout, and the staff warmly greeted us and guided us to a seat for dining in! Their gelato is also highly renowned! 🍽️ We ordered the Beef Croissant, Potato Benedict with salmon, Long Black, and Mocha. The Potato Benedict with salmon was the most astonishing dish. It seemed to be pan-fried and then baked, resulting in a crispy exterior and a satisfying texture. Combined with the salmon, it was so delicious that it felt almost heavenly! Next to the restaurant is Takapuna Beach. After satisfying our appetites, we went for a stroll there, basking in the sunlight, enjoying the sandy beach, and admiring the picturesque ocean view. It was incredibly relaxing!

I feel there must have been a change in ownership if I read some of the bad reviews here. My experience was ABSOLUTELY EXCELLENT!!! I'd give 10 Stars if I could. STAFF: Super friendly and professional. Amazing customer service - honestly. My glass of water was always filled up, no matter how busy it was! Very DOGFRIENDLY! You can bring your best mate - so cool! FOOD: The avocado toast was only 14$ not 35$like someone else here wrote. We got the Rosti Benedict with Salmon, and it was 100% delicious - great hash brown, fresh and grilled salmon, perfectly poached eggs and yum hollandaise (28$). Yes, the juices (10$) and ice cafe were a little bit more expensive than elsewhere but FRESH and made up perfectly, especially the iced coffee served in separate glasses (milk, coffee, ice cream etc) looked soooo fancy and was strong and delicious! So come one - you're RIGHT next to the beach and park and got an amazing view! It's so worth it, and we'll be back for sure. Just be aware: Parking is restricted & expensive, and this place is super busy - because it is so good :)

What a gorgeous spot to have a coffee & soak up the gorgeous beach views at the same time. Insanely busy spot for a week day but impeccable service all the same with sparkling water and the morning paper to boot! Pet friendly if you’re going for a walk & although I didn’t eat off the menu it looked amazing!!

Stayed at the campsite next to this cafe and popped in for a coffee and something to eat. The food was so good we ended up having dinner there. The oysters were the freshest, tastiest oysters I can remember having. The staff were great, and the view was impeccable. We came back through after heading north and stayed at the same accommodation in part to be able to be close to this cafe. Highly Recommend!!

Great indoor outdoor flow Impeccable service Wheelchair accessible with ramp however is quite challenging to navigate between the tables if notice was given to the Cafe I’m sure they would be more than happy to reconfigure for accessibility requirements Outdoor seating has warm heaters food arrives fast staff are very attentive For large groups bookings are recommended

A popular cafe, went in for early brunch on Saturday and waited no more than 10mins to get a table. We like it outside as we can get some fresh beach air and it can get a bit crowded inside. It's always a delight talking with the staff, orders are accurate and coffee is served quickly. I was craving something sweet and was recommended the filo. It was just what I wanted!

A great location, really nice indoor/outdoor setup. Always very busy, but also rarely a wait. The oat flat white is perfection, great food ( and consistently great ), awesome service. Our go-to on the north shore.

Run, don’t walk, and order the Filo from the latest brunch menu. It was the tastiest, richest, most sensational brunch I’ve ever had, and an excellent addition to the menu. Thank you for making my day! The sun shone, the view was gorgeous, and the coffee as always was perfect. Always feel like I’m over at a friends house when I come here because of how welcome you make your guests feel!. See you next time!

Amazing view by the beach, always busy, great dessert , friendly service

Always a great choice for brunch. Love the outdoor seating on a good day, dog friendly. Their ice cream is also superb.

An excellent experience while enjoying my conversation with my best friend along the beach. The salmon was cooked well and the beef burger served as juicy and tasty. However, the bread was over toasted and even hard to chew😅 Overall the view, food and service were great 👍🏻 If you want to have relaxing time and later walk along the sea, this cage should be your destination/ starting point.

The ambience and view is lovely from the outside area! The red cabbage on the fish of the day was quite bitter and portion size was small. The fish and chips were good though!

One of the most popular cafes in Takapuna with the most gorgeous view.<br/><br/>Service: 10/10<br/>We were immediately seated on a busy Saturday morning.<br/>The man that served us was super kind and helpful when we were ordering.<br/>They brought us sparkling water and frequently refilled our cups throughout our meal.<br/>Some of the waiters were confused as to which table the orders were from.<br/>The waiters would quickly clean up each table after a customer left so new people didn’t have to wait and the whole place was kept clean.<br/><br/>Food: 9/10<br/>I ordered the gnocchi, crab croquettes, house chocolate and a flat white.<br/>The gnocchi was so delicious and the mushroom sauce was very creamy.<br/>The crab croquettes were not oily because they were pan fried but they were still crispy on the outside. The crab flavour was also very potent and strong.<br/>The house chocolate was delicious but I recommend quickly mixing everything together because the milk cooled down so the chocolate didn’t fully melt.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 9/10<br/>The whole cafe is very white and brightly lit by the sunlight shining though the windows. <br/>The view is definitely the highlight of the whole store. There are seats outside to enjoy the wind and a bit of sunlight.<br/>The glass tables are a little old but they are iconic to the store.<br/>The space is quite tight inside the store since they try to fit in as many people as possible.<br/>It’s also a little loud since it’s an open kitchen.<br/><br/>I will be back for that hot chocolate and gnocchi.

The food here is always beautifully presented and very tasty. It is so nice sitting there by the beach. Unfortunately it is very expensive. Regardless, I enjoy going here occasionally 😊

We visit the beach regularly so am quite familiar with this place. <br/>Takapuna Beach Cafe has a great location and sea view. There's plenty of outdoor seating so it's very convenient if you have a dog with you. They are always very busy in the weekends so be aware of the waiting times. Service is generally prompt and friendly.<br/><br/>They are famous for their gelatos which has won a lot of prices. There are a lot of nice flavours, though a bit pricey.<br/><br/>The coffees are not bad but they do ask if you want one shot or two, without stating the price. So I never know if you are charged more for two shots? The iced drinks are made with ice cream so they are nice, but on the more expensive side. <br/><br/>The food though, are to be honest very over priced for what you get, especially when there are so many nice cafes in Takapuna. <br/><br/>Overall this place is great to come for a takeaway gelato to walk on the beach, or sit down for a coffee with seaview (no competition for the view). But there are better options in Takapuna for food especially considering the price. Takapuna Beach Cafe is more like a restaurant than a cafe.

Was there with my family on labour day ordered a scoop of double chocolate ice cream on a cone and was given ..a scoop of melted ice cream in a glass ...when I asked the waiter she said she can put a cone on top of I wanted ..why keep selling the ice cream if it's not good to serve.Additionally was charged $9 for that..was very disappointed. And all the hot chocolate drinks were just warm .. I wish the manager and staff were more proactive..

Situated right on the beach, this place is ideal for beach goers wanting a bite to eat. Taka beach cafe is top quality, with sparkling water (my personal fave) served with meals and snacks. The ice cream in the front cafe is sublime, always worth a stop here during summer time, or if you like your ice cream like me, anytime. The serves of ice cream are generous too which is awesome!!!
Tasteful Seconds By Kyrsta Lynn
Came here for brunch and was stunned. The service was quick as they took note of each customer as they sat down. Our glasses were quickly filled with some fizzy water. Soon after taking our order a table with the most wonderful views of the ocean opened up and our waiter came up and offered for us to move to the table so we could have a better view of the ocean. Not too long after our food came out in a very timely manner and was delightful. I had the Breakfast Gnocci. The mushrooms were perfectly done, the garnish was a flavourful addition to the meal and the truffle sauce was decedant. My boyfriend enjoyed the egg benedict. As he only ever gets an eggs benedict at breakfast he knows his way around one and claims that this was in his top 5 eggs benedicts. I had a bite as well and we throughoughly pleased. The hashbrown base instead of an english muffin was a wonderful touch. There was a perfect balance between the hollandaise sauce and the portion size. The menu is not huge which is perfect as it is not overwhelming. Will be coming back for more.

I have not been to Takapuna beach cafe for months now due to the last not so nice experience. Cafe seemed quite different to before with the same menu tasting and looking different (new chef?). Anyways, this time I enjoyed the whole experience.<br/><br/>One of the first cafes I take my friends to is this cafe if they are visiting from overseas. It shows the beautiful beach, and with all the people  from the beach stopping by the cafe, it kind of sets a positive tone for the community. <br/><br/>Then I order whatever is recommended by the servers and definitely slip in an affogato.  Its relaxing to be there on a nice sunny day talking away and catching up with friends' lives. <br/><br/>The only thing is the place is not heated, and can get very cold on not so sunny or windy days. Make sure to check out the weather forecast and take a warm blanket.

Amazing food and pleasant vibe.

Great location in Takapuna looking out over the beach.<br/><br/>This is one busy place! The staff do exceptionally well to keep tables churning over. The only thing I don’t like is starting to clear tables while people are still eating as I think it seems like they’re trying to hurry us out.<br/><br/>Good food, not great, but it’s more about the location and atmosphere!
Cookie Monster
I haven't visited for some time, used to have no complaints about food or staff, especially it's near home with relaxing beach view, unfortunately the fish was not fresh, fries overcooked, tartar sauce with too many pickles, overcooked beef in burger this time, only thing not disappointed me were their homemade icecream!
JPK
An amazing place to sip a coffee and enjoy the view. I feel like best place for relaxation and my little girl likes to try anything that's pink 😊<br/>Wish I could visit more frequently.

I have longed to come here for quite some time as the reviews are good & the scenery is amazing. So disappointed. Brought my mother & son & the food was average at best. We complained about the burger being over cooked - well done rather than medium rare & were told it was because the meat they had had delivered was a different colour than normal! I’m sorry?!? The tables are cramped - suitable for 2 people & the toilets & the overpriced menu need updating. They compensated the meal with free coffees which ironically was the best part of the experience - but I think it’s hard to get Allpress coffee wrong.

Takapuna beach cafe is somewhere I went a lot as a kid especially to 'the store' to get ice cream. Their ice cream is my absolute favourite and never disappoints. I highly recommend everyone try the ice cream here. Came here for brunch and got the 'avo on toast' and it tasted really good and fresh. I also had an 'iced mocha' and I love the presentation as it comes deconstructed which is so good for photos. I recently also came here with my sister for morning tea and they had a table inside the cafe with lots of goodies from 'the store' so my sister got the carrot cake and I had the lemon curd donut and they both tasted sooo good and you could tell they were freshly baked. View is also really nice of the beach. Must go spot, def reccomend :))

This is a must go coffee spot in Takapuna. Reasonable priced coffee and priceless beautiful view. Buy an ice cream and walk on Takapuna beach is a good idea in a sunny day.

Takapuna beach cafe has a really nice atmosphere with beautiful view and great interior. Gelato and drinks are really good here even though they are quite expensive. Food is quite average, similar to other typical cafe brunch.

I have been here a few times in the past and really enjoyed it. There might be new management but it wasn’t the same. The place seemed a bit dirty, and the food was average unfortunately. The bacon was grey, the apple soda and juice weren’t good, and there was only one small piece of bread with my eggs and the coffee was really burnt. We did get the coffee for free. the pulled pork was great, though and The staff were really lovely. Just seems like a skimp on quality ingredients but still pricey.

Takapuna Beach Cafe And Store is damn alright. Used to come here loads when I was little but I recently came back just for a coffee with my parents. The cafe is always busy so if you go here to eat defiently make a booking! I got an iced mocha and you have to do it yourself which I find super dope and then you can put in as much coffee or milk as you like. I didn't like how the kitchen was open it was very unappealing because you don't wanna be eating or drinking with the noise and sight of the busy hot kitchen. The cafe is average just very busy and loud but the iced mocha's are to die for. Recently came back with a mate and we both got the French Toast which we both weren't too impressed with as the apple tasted wack asf, the creams hit they put on it tasted gross but the actual french toast and bacon was nice, not too sure about them leaves that were chucked on the plate. The cafe was super busy as usual and pretty manic, it's just a mess and not too keen on coming back. :( x

Great spot for a lite/solid breaki, was rather peckish and decided to have the big boy “the grill” 👌 salsa was really good! Pointer to possibly present the salsa on the side/ring dish, can make your bread a tad soggy otherwise.

Came here few days ago again for a brekkie and found out they changed to their seasonal menu. Personally craved avocado but guess it’s too expensive for them. So i got a granola which was in fact good and my friend got a french toast with an extra charge of $7 for two bacon strips. Lowkey disappointed at their frenchtoast with it’s little portion and display. Would think they could work on it a bit more.

Breakfast and Lunch, open 6:30am to 6:00pm.<br/><br/>There are many beach cafes in Auckland. <br/><br/>But the extensive and beautiful views of Takapuna Beach Cafe are not easy to find in other restaurants. <br/><br/>Best choice for weekend Brunch. <br/><br/>Ice chocolate is my favorite.<br/><br/>Recommended.

I came here for breakfast with a colleague a while ago. Situated in such a beautiful location & they take full advantage of this with an open-plan design & large windows showcasing their remarkable views of Takapuna Beach. There’s no shortage of outdoor seating & plenty of room to accomodate larger groups. The service was great as well as the food, this establishment ticked every box for me, a must-visit if you’re in the shore.

There arent words to describe how beautiful and surreal being at this place is. Staff are lovely, views are amazing and food is even better! Their deconstructed iced coffees are an all time fav. This place is quite pricey but also worth it. Perfect spot for a lunch time date and walk on the beach.

We ordered the Cauliflower Pasta and Wagyu Beef Burger. <br/><br/>The pasta was delicious and I absolutely loved the creaminess of the dish, and the portion size was rather generous. The burger was a little dry and quite underwhelming, and we ended up finding a hair in it. We didn’t have time to complain and ask for a new dish as it already took a while to come out in the first place. However, we mentioned it to the lady upon paying and she excluded that dish from the bill, which we didn’t expect so that was very kind of them.<br/><br/>Overall though, I’m just not sure that everything here was worth the hefty prices.
Emily
I would be here everyday if i lived on the shore! Their food has never disappointed. I usually also get a deconstructed coffee which is something fun and yummy too. Always a pleasant experience here

Came in today for a Waitangi Day brunch. We ordered the granola and the wagyu beef burger with a side of fries. The sauce that the burger came with was amazing. It was a perfect dip for the fries. The yoghurt in the granola tasted fresh and creamy. It had a bit of a cream cheese feel to it. It was definitely one of the best granolas I’ve had in Auckland.

Visited the shop on public holiday and sunny day. perfect day for coffee and perfect pastry after walking along the beach. If you are in takapuna, drop by the shop to have a taste. Their coffee and pastry are really delicious.<br/>Coffee 4/5<br/>Ambience 4/5<br/>Service 4/5

This cafe house, there are 2 entrances, one to the small corner of cabinet food and ice-cream for takeaway called 'The Store' and the other to the cafe dine in area for customers who place an order from the house menu.<br/><br/>It was a weekday but summer holiday already started. I had no courage to dive in the big wave of people and noise at the cafe to eat inside. I decided to take something away.<br/><br/>I found there are no names + prices showing for the cabinet food whatsoever. The service guy told me he can explain which is which and the price range for each type of food but I felt uneasy with people keep coming in and flocking in front of the counter.<br/><br/>For a tight-budget person like me, it would be much easier if there r price tags showing to get some idea of what I can afford.<br/><br/>For a hard decision making person like me, it would be really helpful if there r some information of the food showing to have some idea of what I feel like eating.<br/><br/>The doughnuts on the counter were appealing but they were uncovered and people talking nearby. Because of hygiene aspect I gave it up to buy them.<br/><br/>Finally I managed to get 8 items altogether. The total bill was $61.50.<br/><br/>The iced coffee for takeaway which is $8 was simple looking, a little bit too sweet and not much coffee flavour in it. I wonder if I order the $10 iced coffee from the cafe menu, what will this $2 difference be like.<br/><br/>For the cabinet food, the fried chiken sandwich was so nice that I want to buy it again.<br/><br/>I was surprised that I happened to get 2 different kind of sweets from Milse (How to pronounce this famous sweet shop?) without going to the other side of the bridge. I was told that both of them were cheesecake.<br/><br/>Each of this tiny sized + fancy looking cake was shared by 3 people so I couldn't get enough impression by only trying 1 spoonful of each dessert. I'm still wondering was it good enough worth paying $9 each ? 😂<br/><br/>My next target will be the gelato !!

We’ve been here on the weekend Very nice food, friendly and lovely staff. Very nice view We would love to come Back here more often. recommend this place to

If you want somewhere to eat on a beautiful day with a lovely view, atmosphere and great food and don’t mind spending a pretty penny for it - this place is for you. I stay right next door to this gem, and every time I have come here it is filled with people, and the food is perfect every time. I can’t go past their iced coffee each time I come here too, it is to die for. It’s a must try OG cafe for when your in Takapuna.

Absolutely delightful place to meet and have a quick bite or coffee. Frequent often, as the energy and ambiance are very special and for those who like a little bit of space for a good conversation, this fits the bill. Coffee delicious, as well as their croissants, etc. Still looking to try a full meal, but they look impressive in plating.

love this place! cozy, great staff and the coffee/food is delicious! Nice place and good coffee. Pretty tiny but fine to hang out and drink a cup and people watch or work on something.

Great place to visit when the sun is shinning! A cafe with great views of the ocean! Beautiful ice creams with extra generous portions! Staff very friendly!

Sunday morning breakfast. We ordered coffee, the grill and the smoked fish pate. Coffee is good.<br/>Firstly, why do people serve hot food on stone cold plates?? By the time our food arrived to our table, everything was cold........so the meal was unenjoyable.<br/>The Grill - Sausage, bacon, rosti, poached eggs and a single piece of toast. The sausage isn’t a traditional normal sausage. It looks homemade, no casing, just spicy hot meat. I don’t want spicy hot meat for breakfast. The back of my tongue burned.<br/>The smoked fish pate was good. It was very rich and it did contain a lot of mayo.<br/>Value for money........NO. The grill was $29, Fish pate $24. Very expensive for what you get. <br/>I was going to rate them a 2 for serving cold food and spicy sausage for breakfast, but to be fair, a 3 is an average rating.

Me and my friends had lunch on Tuesday. I loved the atmosphere and fantastic view! We ordered Seafood pasta, Eggs Bene and Chocolate mousse crepes. Food arrived quickly and everything was delicious and well presented! Good strong coffee too! I will definitely go back there again!

Nice relaxed spot by the water! Good breakfast & brunch ish place and got something for everyone so good for a nice weather catch up place it is pricey but guess that's the price around here!

Very busy environment. The food was great! I had the seafood pasta. Slightly pricey but had some good flavours. The fish and chips was also nice. The fish batter was so crispy, i was having second thoughts about my option. I highly recommend coming here for a brunch. Might be a bit pricey but somewhat worth it.<br/><br/>Also, if you have room, they have some nice gelato on offer next door.

Service was fantastic, incredible staff. The menu was great, lots of unique options. Food was plated beautifully and tasted great. I will definitely be back. Quite busy over weekends.

Came here for brunch and was delighted with the vast assortment of food to choose from, ranging from small pastries and dessert items to a selection of meals; something for everybody. The coffee was uniquely served, where it comes in a set for you to mix together to your liking. The food and portions were reasonable. The staff were all friendly and for such a busy place, their service was very efficient - we didn’t have to wait long to be seated or served! It’s a lovely spot with a lovely atmosphere and view!

Three of us had lunch on a very busy Saturday. The staff got us a table in about 30 seconds. Tables were all cleaned immediately by super attentive staff. They greeted us politely and helped us choose our food by giving us a perfect rundown of most popular options. And what brilliant options!! Chocolate mousse crepes, smashed eggs, and cut pasta, not to mention the hot chocolate and flat whites—really nice! The food was perfectly prepared and arrived all at once all appropriately hot. Perfect presentation on all three, even with a special on-the-side order by the kid. The staff were ever present to attend needs, but perfectly unobtrusive—remarkable feat in such a cozy setting. This was among the best lunch experiences I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Thanks so much for all the hard work!! Well done!!!

Definitely worth a visit or more!!<br/><br/>Everything about this cafe in Takapuna was brilliant! I loved the atmosphere, it was next to a beach and I was surrounded by so many dogs and lovely people!<br/><br/>The service was really good, the staff was friendly, and our food was served to us in a good amount of time! We had to wait about 15-20 minutes as it was a peak brunch time, but it was worth it!<br/><br/>I ordered a "house hot chocolate" to start off with, and it was one of the best hot choco's I've had in Auckland. It came in a plate with pre-filled melted chocolate, and you'd add the milk into your glass to your liking and then top it up with chocolate buttons!! One word = amazing.<br/><br/>I then ordered an "Eggs Benedict with mushrooms and a Grilled Halloumi " which is yes very cliche, but who isn't. The eggs bene were delicious, and was cooked so well! I'm a big mushroom fan and it was just like the cherry on top! I opted for a 5-grain bread, which complemented the whole dish! <br/>Grilled Halloumi, you can never go wrong with some halloumi! It was simply amazing, and I've never enjoyed artichokes as much as I did with the mix in the halloumi!<br/><br/>To end our meal we ordered a "Milse Tasting Board" to share, which had a variety of the Milse deserts specialties! (Not knowing that Takapuna Beach Cafe and Milse are owned by the same people)<br/>The board came with two flavors of gelato ice cream, macaroons, chocolates and a few different cakes. We enjoyed everything but the little chocolates, the mint flavors weren't for us. Other than that, everything was delicious, the ice cream would just melt in your mouth, the wee little cupcakes and cakes were amazing! We shared it amongst 8 people and it was more than enough!<br/><br/>I would definitely go back to this cafe!! The views are great, for a dog lover its heaven, and the pricing of the food is pretty decent.

453 reviews and a rock hard 4.2 rating on Zomato.  There's little to no need for my review.... No one needs this, let alone Takapuna cafe, but please, read on.<br/><br/>Takapuna beach is off limits on Sunday mornings unless you have a dog and you're wearing a black Kathmandu puffer jacket.  I was lucky to be dog sitting on this brisk morning, my puffer jacket was blue ... But the dog was black so I did my best to blend in and act like one of the locals.<br/><br/>Walking up a decent appetite, we then called into Takapuna Cafe for eats.  I've eaten here on a couple of occasions, both times I thought the food never hit the standards the prices demanded.  Yes I agree, the view is lovely, but when paying $30+ for a plate of food, I need more than a lovely view, the food needs to be on point.<br/><br/>Happy to report this venture to Takapuna Cafe changed my attitude on them a little.<br/><br/>The Grill (aka Big Breakie), was impeccably cooked.  My request for sans eggs, add mushrooms was accepted immediately by the waiter, I do get tired of "I'll just go and check with the kitchen" for such simple requests.  The sauteed mushrooms were a medley of button, oyster, shiitake, portabello, roast garlic cloves and love.  The rosti creating enough crunchy texture to keep the large plate of food in front of me interesting.  <br/><br/>This was the epitome of big breakfast bliss.<br/><br/>My last review on Zomato, Greenwood's Cafe, I spoke of being a non coffee drinker and how you can tell a lot from a cafe by the sort of Iced Chocolate they serve.  At Takapuna Cafe they serve you a deconstructed Iced Chocolate.  A glass that contains some chocolate ganache and a spoon of ice cream, in another jug you have your milk which you pour into the glass and mix about before drinking. $10 for an underwhelming glass of milk.<br/><br/>This was equivalent to the $50 t-shirt Macklemore sings about in Thrift Shop.  #Swindled.<br/><br/>Service?  The tall fella wearing glasses that kind of looked like Jeff Goldblum had complete control of the al fresco diners.  Warm, approachable, attentive, professional and funny, he has mastered the art of hospitality, an asset for any establishment.<br/><br/>Apart from trying to reinvent the wheel with their iced chocolate, it was a flawless brunch and a place I'd be more willing to consider as a regular option moving forward.

The weather was great when we came here, we really savoured the view. Ordered their house hot chocolate, Agria rosti and beef burger. Hot chocolate was standard, Agria rosti was okay, was a tad disappointed that the egg was not runny, sauce was okay and rostis were crispy. My hubby who had the burger said it's fine but for $30 he expected more flavour as the beef was quite bland. Overall, come here to enjoy the view and don't expect too much from the food.

We have been twice. Last week we went here for breakfast. The location is great but the tables are very close together and it is a bit squashed. We ordered 3 dishes which were egg benedict, smashed egg and agria rosti. The egg benedict was very basic and there was not much sauce. The smashed egg was tasteless and dry. There was nothing special about the agria rosti, it tasted plainly. Coffees were well presented but it wasn’t good, problaby because the cafe was so busy. The thing that made us most disappointed here was the bacons. The first time I went there it was burned and the recent time we visited the bacons even got burned like coal ashes. <br/>Overall the service is good as the staffs are friendly but the food is below beverage for the price you pay.

Worth the hype!<br/>Easily one of the best snapper i have had! The preparation was absolutely delicious! The carrot cake was picture perfect, with the perfect sweetness not too much not too less. Cappuccino was also good! The tea maybe thats a bit okayish i’ll say! Rest everything was spot on! <br/>P.S. The views are good!
Angela
I love this place! The view is amazing and the atmosphere is super nice. I can’t remember which salad I had but it was hands out the nicest salad I’d ever had (who knew salad could be so good?). I highly recommend this place for a sunny day to absorb the beautiful beach view :)
Lyla
Wonderful cakes, iced drinks but very much on the expensive side! $10 for an iced drink may be a little too much for dessert, although they were nice. The staff was nice, but not very alert.

My friends and I went to this cafe last Sunday. It was fully packed and a long queue of people waiting to be seated. Well, I guess it is popular because of its location next to Takapuna beach and the weather was good. We came around 12.30 pm, waiting for 45 minutes just to get a table. Once we finally got a table, we ordered quick because we were starving after waiting for so long. I ordered a fish burger and the waiter asked me if I would like to have mushrooms with the burger. I said yes as I am fine with mushrooms, thinking that the burger has mushrooms in it. To my surprise, the mushrooms is a surcharge of $7, which the waiter did not intentionally tell me about that. It does not even mention in the menu about the surcharge either. And if the mushrooms went well with the burger, It would have been worth the surcharge. In fact, the mushrooms were tasteless, and the burger would have tasted better without the mushrooms. In the end, I felt ripped off and the whole Sunday brunch was completely a waste of time and money. The cafe should have better food and should at least let me know about the surcharge.

As always fantastic. I forget how good this place is. The coffee is worth every cent. The staff are friendly and efficient and really add to dining or even just having a coffee. Great magazine selection and ice cream - what more can you ask for? A sea view - ✅ <br/>Good food, well cooked - ✅

A superb place to have your Sunday Breakfast by the Takapuna Beach.Tried the pumpkin pasta and Pancakes.Absolutely delicious..Do try there range of icecream on a sunny day.Big,filling scoops.

The location is great and it's definitely got the Takapuna opulence vibe to it. the food is typical cafe food, though my fish had a few painful bones still inside. coffees are pretty good and the service is excellent. The prices are a bit dear, but I suppose the waterfront views command a high lease.

Wonderful location and always busy with people spilling out waiting for tables, our wait was only 10mins so not too painful and worth the wait.<br/>Attentive and friendly staff who know just how much to push in spite of how busy the place is.<br/>Two brunch dishes stood out, the Agria hash with chunky bacon and beloved gave the crepes rave reviews<br/>Good strong coffee too!<br/>Hard to fault

Amazing fresh pasta! Have been here twice in the past month and cannot fault. Lovely professional staff and great coffee! Plus Te view and fresh air 👌🏼 Plenty of parking, child and dog friendly.

This review is for the peanut butter chocolate ice cream which is amazing. So creamy and peanuty, with big huge chunks of chocolate. And not overly sweet.

A good place to visit after a nice hot tiring day at the beach during summers. The menu has a lot of options on refreshments and also on the mains. Went in a big group with friends so ordered quite a few stuff that was good. Especially the chips and ice cream. The service again is quick an won't keep you waiting for too long.

awesome location. easy to find. next to the beach. enough parking. fast service. friendly staff. Aside from my ice cream melting too quickly, the place is great!

It’s a shame that I did not take any photos of the food that I had. My friend and I went there for brunch and had fish and chips & handcut pasta. And gelato for dessert. This place is one of my fav places in Shore. Food is amazing, service is great, lovely beach view..<br/><br/>Must try their cherry yoghurt gelato! <br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Food: 4.5/5<br/>Price: $30 per person

My wife tells me we had food here along time ago... but today I'm just reviewing them on coffee and location.<br/><br/>Location: you really can't beat them, the beach is meters away, the view is awesome and always great to end or start a beach walk with them.<br/><br/>Coffee: is good, I wouldn't say mind blowing but I'm a coffee snob. The fact that I have had numerous coffees here is a good sign.<br/><br/>Plenty of cabinet food and ice cream to choose from and an extensive menu whether your taking away or dining in.

Awesome location and ice cream next to the cafe after a perfect brunch. <br/><br/>I come here frequently especially after a good night out. Great for hangover meals and gentle on the wallet too after a big spend from the night before. <br/><br/>The ladies love it too!<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Food Quality: 4/5<br/>Food Quantity: 4/5<br/>Environment: 5/5<br/>Presentation: 4/5<br/>Price per person: $40-$50

We have been here a few times and the experience is inconsistent. The restaurant is quite noisy generally and the tables very close together and a bit squashed. My wife had eggs Benedict and I had granola. This took 45 minutes to arrive. The granola was very basic with hardly any fruit and no side of milk. At the first spoonful I found a long hair running through the granola. I sent it back for a new one but after a further 30 minutes it still hadn’t arrived so we paid and left. No apology was forthcoming for the poor service. We wont be back.

Went last week for breakfast. The location of the cafe is good w a nice veiw. I ordered the iced coffee which was really good, and i like how it was presented in a way where you add the milk and brew yourself to make it to your personal taste and liking. I also ordered the strawberry pancakes which were a bit thick for me and there were only 3 real strawberries the rest were canned strawberries which were soggy.

If we go to takapuna, we would absolutely go to grab a scoop of ice cream here! Great location and lovely view. Neither dining here nor take away, all good choice. The service is nice too.

Packed even for a Wednesday afternoon, I decided to visit to see what the hype was about. <br/><br/>It took me awhile to decide the dish, and I asked 2 staff multiple times for their recommendations and explanations of the dishes. Between the four of us we got Market Fish, Parpadelle, Ceviche and Hand-Cut Pasta. <br/>The Market Fish was a bit disappointing for $30; fish lacked flavour and was bland even after I sprinkled sea salt and pepper on it. It was cooked nicely though, pan-fried and the skin was crispy. The fish sat on a bed of tomato salad—which was essentially what it suggests—a tomato salad. Nothing exciting here either. The 4 thin stalks of asparagus hiding at the bottom of the plate was good! Cooked to perfection, tender but crunchy. I must say the highlight of the dish was the smear of purée on the side, tasted a bit cheesy and gave the dish that oomph of flavour. <br/>The Parpadelle is generously portioned! Apparently the roast courgettes were really good! Hearty sauces which was pumpkin-based was interestingly seasoned, but still lacked flavour. <br/>Hand-Cut Pasta was sitting in a tomato-based sauce, with scampi found scattered around the bed of pasta. The sauce was good! Something in there that gave it a crunch as well, but it was too oily. <br/>The ceviche is a smaller portion than you’d expect, but apparently fresh and good serving size of raw fish. Presentation was delicate, good for a fresher option for summer! <br/><br/>I think it’s overpriced for what you get and not particularly worth the hype, though I would be back to try their Agria Rosti. <br/><br/>Food: 7/10<br/>Price: 7/10 <br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Service: 10/10

Came in here yesterday for lunch, had heard about this café located on the beachside of Takapuna. The views from the café are definitely amazing, quite a relaxed place to have a café at. <br/>The staff were all friendly and let us sit wherever we wanted, so we chose to sit near the deck where we could look out at the view while we ate.<br/><br/>The menu seemed quite plain, there weren't much options to choose from. Not sure if it was the lunch menu given to us? But I don't think so because the menu never mentioned it. At the end we decided to go with a beef burger and fries, I wish they had more options with what patty we could have in our burgers but there was none. The burger and fries were $27 which is crazy, probably the most expensive burger I've ever had. It was quite filling though I could barely finish my meal. <br/><br/>The waitress recommended us to try the virgin mojito as we asked for lemon lime and bitters and they didn't have it, so this was the closest. The drinks were sweet which I wasn't a fan of, but it tasted refreshing so I didn't mind it either.<br/><br/>Overall a nice location, but pricey food. Next time I'd rather try their gelato section beside the café, which we totally forgot about and left.
Aman
Little on the pricy side but is amazing the food is always fresh and tastes amazing and has a nice view of the beach and also the staff is super friendly and even though they are busy they don’t forget about you I would suggest buying the fish.

If you wanna have nice food and appreciate one of the best views of Auckland, Takapuna Beach Cafe is the place. <br/><br/>You'll be facing the beautiful beach of Takapuna, served by a staff that's lovely even in the busiest days.<br/><br/>Food is great too. I tried pancakes with apple while my bf had a traditional kiwi brekkie. Everything was good and we can't wait to come back.
Elmocookie
Had breakfast here with a friend and the one dish that we recommend everyone to try is the scampi omelette. Big serves of scampi throughout the omellete which was juicy and as tasty as it looked.
Simone
Amazing location and view but sadly pretty average food for the price you pay. Scrambled eggs were grey and tasteless and pasta was over cooked and sauce was horrible.
Bambi
Overrated place for overpriced food and underwhelming coffee. Been here couple of times over the years, hoping I can get better experience. But every single time I visit, it always has been a huge disappointment. Service is excellent and their gelato is delicious. However their food is just below average. And please, please work on your coffee!! I would love to have a decent coffee while enjoying that lovely view of Takapuna beach!
Gracia
Although a bit on the pricy side, the food is really good and service great as well. They even have an area where you can get ice cream or coffee on the go and they’re great! Pretty good value for the quality ice cream you get. Even if you don’t try the cafe food I definitely recommend trying out their ice cream and eating it on the beach, you can also ask for samples before choosing. And get cone not cup, you get more ice cream that way..

Very relaxing cafe by the sea. A good choice of seating available inside and outside the cafe.<br/><br/>Food selection is limited but dishes were superb. Was wonderful to see healthy selections available on the menu. Really enjoyed the spirulina and greens smoothie. My all day selection of rosti with bacon, cabbage and poached egg was scrumptious and complete.<br/><br/>Service could be better. Not easy to get the service staff attention. However, was impressed with one of the waiter’s professionalism; he could remember all our orders without writing them down.<br/><br/>
Aimee.
Great location as it is right on the beach and interesting menu. Staff are accomodating and attentive. Portions are quite large but the prices are a little above average. Overall great place and unique menu.

Good Service. Nice dish. Fast table turnover. Great view. Highly recommended. <br/><br/>But. Yes you do need to pay a bit more for the excellence you have. <br/><br/>

This beauty, I wish we had more of these in Auckland.<br/>We went there for brunch on a good day, summer still hasn’t set in so we decided to sit inside as it’s was quite breezy. Despite being super busy, the staff is super efficient and welcoming. They keep checking on you with a smile on their face, almost makes you feel you are on vacation. The ambiance is absolutely breathtaking with the sea view and white furniture and smell of freshly brewed coffee. The hot chocolate and cold coffee were an absolute hit,I would go ahead and say I had one of the best hot chocolates here. <br/>We also ordered slow roast lamb which was alright, it lacked seasoning and needed something more. Maybe it's just me but I found it a bit bland. Benedict was as its supposed to be. So I am definitely going back again and again for the hot chocolate :)

Menu is always changing on this place and food is interesting - I do find it quite tricky to read and have to google some items but the more you learn!! <br/>The food is a little more than what you'd expect to pay, as the portions aren't huge. <br/>Still delicious and great atmosphere around especially in the sun looking out at the water. <br/>Their gelato options are fabulous if you want a wee treat.
Ziwei Jia
burger is pretty good, really like the sauce inside ~ the chips also tasty. The drink I chose the coconut and mango mixed smoothie, a bit sweet for me, but it is still good anyhow.
Sharon D'Souza
Had brunch here. Was disappointed to be herded like cattle- had three people bump into our table spilling our drinks- were rushed through our meal without even as much as a 'how was ur meal?'. The food was good but the poor service and cramped space would not have me returning any time soon.
Sian Wichman
It is lovely here - especially on a beautiful sunny day. Don't come here if you have a big appetite, you'll probably leave starving. Great for coffee catch ups and they have such a good cabinet selection.<br/><br/>Coffee gets brownie points  :)
I_like_pickles
What a fabulous spot for s catch up over a cafe or ice cream! Fantastic spot on a sunny day. The place is bright and sleek which automatically gives of a chilled and relaxed space.<br/><br/>Ice cream was decadently smooth and the portion size was generous.
Steph Coulton
Just popped into the store for a coffee and donut, both of which were amazing.<br/>Friendly service with was very prompt. A busy and popular spot with amazing views. We will return :)

This was one of my fav cafes on the north shore however i was quite disappointed with my visit today. We went for some coffee and icecream and it was pretty busy. When my flat white came out, itdidnt look pretty.. was just a blob of froth with lots of air holes.. felt like there was no effort put into this cup of coffee and apauled that the waitress would still bring it out to me like this.. there were other good things abt this visit but this coffee just shocked me and made me feel like i wasnt being treated as a valuable customer. Even Mcdonalds could make a coffee better than this..
Emma Willie Wilson
Been here so many times but never had a sit down meal here before! <br/>Not because it wasn't appealing, I usually rush after rowing training on the water and just grab a quick bite and a coffee.<br/>Coffee is great, pastries and savouries are fab, and the ice cream selection is to die for!
JamesC
Location is obviously fantastic, great place to be on a sunny morning. Was a little disappointed with coffee here before so have tried the smoothies which are great but the 'decontructed' salted caramel hot chocolate needed twice as much caramel and chocolate! Food however is always of high quality and most importantly seasonal. The wintery jerusalem artichoke dish with truffle and fried eggs was great. Last time we came in summer and had the avocado and asparagus with poached eggs which was also delicious. The portions are large but reflect the high prices. <br/>
Julie Chiu
Nice place nice food ,they have many choices .the hot chocolate was fantastic really like it . If weather is ok can walk on the beach after you eat

I went here for lunch today with my friend, the cafe is gorgeous situated right by the beach. Lots of seating inside and outside.<br/><br/>The service was fantastic! Water was always topped up, orders were taken quickly and our waiter was so helpful. <br/><br/>We ordered the burger (our waiter got them to cut it in half so we could share) and the hand cut pasta with scampi. The burger was amazing! The hand cut pasta was so good and the scampi just melted in your mouth. Every aspect of the meal was delicious! <br/><br/>Will definitely be returning!!! :)

Out of all the times I've been to Takapuna beach, this is the first time I've actually been to this cafe. Came here with some friends for lunch. They're always busy cos obviously they're located at a beach. <br/><br/>Ordered a salted caramel hot drink - very nicely presented and different. I like. The drink itself was not bad. Not overly sweet or bland. A tad on the milky side though. <br/><br/>Went for "The Grill" and it was ok... Nothing too special about it. Low key disappointed. Guess I had high expectations of it. It was just a "big breakfast" kinda meal. They didn't cut up the bacon with wasn't very "convenient" to eat. Not sure what the brown squares were on the side of the plate. Were they "sausages"? I'm unsure. Tasted kind of dry 🤔 the rosti was probably the best thing on the plate. I love a good rosti.<br/><br/>Overall not a bad cafe to dine at. The staff are very accommodating and friendly. Nice location. Would definitely need more room as it's quite crammed inside when it's windy/cold to sit outside.
Chico
Stylish cafe, friendly service and good location ✔️<br/>Our dishes looked beautiful and tasty✔️<br/>I have to go back again to try other dishes as they have a variety of dishes from sweet to savory. I enjoyed my experience, thank you for the great hospitality 😊
Anna
Always a pleasure here. The views are fantastic, service is attentive when it's not full but it normally is full and we have to fend for ourselves. Food is good. Overall experience was good but I think the cafe doesn't live up to its hype and can be quite loud.

Good, beautiful good food, great service, absolutely amazing view. Hard to find parking over summer, but really nice place. Highly recommended!!
OldGoatsKnowBest
An extremely popular destination which we visited today on recommendation. Great outlook with convenient parking. Reception was very good and the follow up service was prompt. A busy, friendly place. The coffee was well crafted. Ideal location to sample Takapuna.

Beautiful cafe right next to the beach - always busy but mid-afternoon there is a bit of a lull. Service is friendly and fast - everything we ordered was beautifully presented and tasted scrumptious. They also do a mean coffee and takeaway next door!

Living on the shore, Takapuna Beach Cafe is always on my top list for a brunch indulgence.<br/><br/>Floor to ceiling windows allow you the panorama view of Rangitoto and the beautiful harbour is such a bonus for your brunch appetite. Do expect a bit longer waiting to grab a seat. Join the locals and capture this all-day eatery for your food exploration.  Definitely worth visiting on a bright sunny morning.<br/><br/>Since part of Hipgroup, every day new fresh baked goods is delivered from their sustainable Kumeu farm. Even the meat is sauced directly from their own farmers. The food quality is secured and guaranteed. <br/><br/>Come in and sit down, waiters bring you sparkling water, the menu and everything is in good order. <br/>I always love the croissant or any Danish pastry from the Store cabinet. The tomato quiche is a good savoury choice, the dish come to you with a splash of green salad and tomato relish which balance the rich flavor. Or you can give it a go for the chicken sandwich, proper French baguette with right flavor chicken and cheese to go with.<br/><br/>Dine-in menu provide plentiful choices, smashed eggs with creamed corn, ricotta, capsicum, sourdough is one of my favourite  for a hearty  and energetic brunch. Of course the battered market fish, hand cut chips, tartare sauce is another good choice. Slow roasted lamb with courgette, launeh, chimichurri and buckwheat  is a fancy way to enjoy its divine lamb. <br/><br/>Allpress coffee beans is a guarantee for a cup of quality coffee here, you do enjoy lift it to a new level ordering the most awarded ice coffee. Scoop a big spoon of vanilla ice cream with chocolate on top, then dripping the black  espresso and milk, hmm, feels like heaven especially in a summer mood. <br/><br/>Drop by the Store have chocolate tart, white chocolate and pear roulade or the lemon meringue take away for the next day sweet treat. Or take its award winning artisan gelato and enjoy it walking by the Takapuna beach. <br/><br/>Life is good. Thanks to the ambience that Takapuna beach Cafe creates.

Visited cafe for the 1st time and without realising there are two seperate entrances we went to the entrance where we ordered ice cream, coffee and a slice, we then went to find somewhere to sit inside as it was raining outside and the waitress told us we needed to order "something " in order for us to sit inside. I explained that all the food and drinks we had were ordered from their cafe and she still insisted that I have to order either "chips or coffee" to sit inside. What a rip off - I had just spent $25 already. I didn't want to make a scene as we had an overseas visitor with us and went on to order another coffee... won't be going back there again

When I came here on a public holiday last year, it was really crowded. Even though some of their cabinet food and ice cream/sorbet section looked tempting, I was a bit put off by how busy the whole café was and just settled for ordering off the table menu.<br/><br/>I ended up going for the eggs benedict with avocado smash. While the quality of what I got was good (and there was a generous serve of avocado), overall I felt the meal portion was rather small for $22. I was disappointed that it didn’t even come with a proper salad and with how my second poached egg wasn't that runny (did I really take that long to eat the first one?).<br/><br/>It was a shame that we didn’t get to sample more from the menu, as I sense that the produce they use is really fresh. I’d like to come again when it’s not as busy so I can really soak up the atmosphere; I imagine this would be a great spot if you lived local enough to be one of the first customers of the day.
Mikayla Plaziuk
Got the eggs benny and the iced mocha today and was really happy with it! The iced mocha was served in a really cool way! The place was really busy and in a nice location. Everything was really clean and hygienic. The eggs benny was a decent size and fresh and yummy. The service was normal nothing special but all in all, if I'm in the area I would go back!
Hanneli Kotze Botha
Today I took some friends from overseas for lunch. We ordered the battered fish - and I was embarrassed when the thick, doughy batter was still runny on the inside.  This cafe has a beautiful location and friendly staff, but I doubt if I will ever go there again.
Eeram
Exceeded all expectations! Place was buzzing but there was no delay in service at all - they even offered to move us to a more sheltered place before we even had thought to ask! Agria rosti with lamb sausage absolute highlight - every flavour on the plate was totally on point. My boyfriend had the smoked fish omelette which was way more exciting than it sounded (I ate most of it for him I think oops). Coffee pretty good, water cups were never empty. Location is awesome. Even though this isn't a game changer, it's worth pointing out their lovely bathrooms and cool plates. We will 100% be back because we want to try some of the drinks from the menu which looked so fun. The staff are fab, and the prices reasonable. Can't fault the place.
Feiran An
Really disappointed by last visit with my friend. This place used to my favorite local because the best location and view, lovely service and friendly staff. But I am so sorry to say the coffee is full of flavor of burn and as a coffee addiction I don't think that is qualified coffee.<br/><br/>Another thing is the food is absolutely overprice(burger over 20 dollars but nothing special). You can find lots of cafe nearby offers same food quality but lower prices.<br/><br/>
Jilly
I love burgers so I had to try their beef burger and it was just so so - nothing special really. It would be better if there are lettuce, tomatoes, onions and not just gherkins. Definitely not worth the price! I would rather try a different dish when I come back. The pasta however was very flavourful! Fresh tomatoes were cooked with scampi and hand cut pasta! This is a must try!!<br/><br/>

I remember years ago I came here and I wasn't that impressed, the food was overpriced and not the best, but today I gave it another go and now this cafe is one of my top picks on the shore which is great because there's no doubt that it's definitely the cafe with the best view on the shore. Super busy for a Thursday lunchtime but my friend and I managed to get a table outside so got to enjoy the sunshine. Firstly let me start by saying the staff do very well - For a busy cafe like this one, they remain calm and collected with a smile on their face and they are also extremely friendly. Ordered the market fish (john dory) and it was amazing! Although, the lamb looks very tempting so I'll have to order that next time. Top service!
Kelly
Great coffee! This place is always bustling with happy people; extra ticks for the good vibe. I had the market fish, and the fish was cooked really nicely. Beautiful, colourful plate full of life, but I found the saltiness of the olives a bit overpowering. Then it came with extra salt on the side too ... eek! And unfortunately, my friend found some scales in his smoked fish bene 😞 However, I love their affogato- rich, strong espresso with a scoop of gorgeous vanilla bean ice cream. If you're looking for a coffee with visual impact, go for their iced mocha - served as three separate components. Their chocolate ice cream is another knock out. Service is very friendly, and waiters constantly come around to top up your sparkling water.

Came here after a walk. Very strategic location with stunning beach view. Cannot really comment on their food because I only tried their award winning gelato. I had the salted caramel and it was good (slightly pricy though). <br/><br/>Just a recommendation :- It will be good if they can change their metal chairs because it really hurts my butt. Beautiful view in front of you but you can't sit any longer......

I came here for lunch with a friend who has a baby/pram. Although we had to wait a few mins for the table the staff were extremely accommodating and friendly towards us. We had the Beetroot and freekeh salad and the watermelon and prosciutto salad. The Beetroot salad was definitely more filling but the watermelon salad tasted just as good. We accompanied our lunch with the avocado & spirulina smoothie and the mango & coconut smoothie. Overall we experienced great customer service and delicious food.
Naomi Black
Only a 15 minute wait for a table for 3 for brunch on a Sunday morning, not bad. I had the pancakes which were lovely. My friend had the grill which was enormous! Try the fresh juice, had the beetroot, ginger & carrot one which was a bit of a taste sensation!
Adline Shandil
Amazing place loved it here. Everything was made to perfection INCLUDING THE OYSTERS. Oysters are really easy to get wrong but the chef picked it at the right time and just the right bloody mary seasoning. Honestly, I've never liked chicken sandwich before tasting yours. Thanks it was awesome. Will be back for some more bloody mary oysters especially !!!! A bit over priced though. And music is louder than needed. Everything else was great including customer service.

Enjoying light meals late afternoon after some beach walk. Nicely located near to the boat landing. Ordered the ice cream and it is so smooth and nice. Also ordered the fries, found it so nice. Service is just okay. The view is nice since it is overlooking Takapuna beach. Can be very crowd, so please just be patience. Recommended and will come back.

Always a favourite when I head up north to Takapuna for the day. Perfectly located with lovely views of the beach. Doggy and children friendly. I come here for their iced coffees which are the bomb. Came here one morning for breakfast with a friend and it was delicious I had tomatoes, sausages, poached eggs and toast which also could be ordered with potatoes. Quick service. Have come here 4 times now and each service lovely.

Had a delicious lunch with my dad. We ordered the agria rosti with smoked trevally and the handcut pasta with scampi. Both dishes had beautiful presentation. The handcut pasta had soft tomato and delicious crunchy pieces of flavoured breadcrumbs which added a lovely texture to the dish. The sauce was scrumptious - buttery and fresh with herbs. I would rate it as 5/5. The agria rosti was a shredded potato patty topped with zucchini and smoked trevally and a fresh green sauce. The agria rosti had a fresh light salad feel to it. I didn't really eat much of the agria rosti but I would give it 4/5. The service was lovely and attentive to our needs.
Tastebud Tingles
Impeccable service, glorious ice creams and a brilliant area by the beach side. This place has been great every time that I have been. Their baked treats and coffees are winners, and their changing menu lures me back season after season.  I was highly impressed with their lamb - perfectly cooked along with a light buckwheat salad, beautiful dressing, and courgette ribbons. Truly an ideal lunch on a summers day.

Man this place is PACKED on Sundays! You'd probably have to wait a while if you have more than 2 people. Came here with my partner and was seated immediately! I ordered the pan roasted market fish and he ordered fish and chips. I absolutely loved mine - the skin was crispy on the outside and the fresh, soft meat just came off in slices, so delicious! No complaints about the fish and chips either! <br/>Would recommend coming here again on a sunny day :)

Have been here many times before but recently it hasn't been great. The iced coffee and gelatos are still winners but the service is a real downer. We probably caught the waitress on a bad day. Shame she had to take it out on us with her grumpiness and rudeness...she took away plates without asking if we were done and when stopped midway, she just carried on taking the coffee tray anyway, while almost spilling the drink, and also did not apologise whatsoever. Another minus is the fact that the cafe didn't have high chairs for babies.
Sam Smith
I have been here only once and was not thoroughly impressed. The food was OK but I would not go out of my way to come back. A nice setting though which makes your coffee that little more enjoyable! :)
Vanessa Zhang
ordered burger for lunch. my friend had pasta. view n atmosphere are better than the taste. love salted caremel hot chocolate here. not so child friendly.
Winnie Luo
Finally managed to try this busy cafe out!<br/><br/>Man. They sure know how to make the most perfect hot chocolate! It came deconstructed and everything fits perfectly together. It was definitely pricey for a hot chocolate but worth the experience and it tasted super yummy!<br/><br/>I ordered the clams pasta which came with a LOT of clams which were fresh and cooked perfectly. Pasta was cooked al dente and had a great texture. The only thing was that the dish was quite salty, it overtook the natural sweetness of the clams.<br/><br/>My partner's wagyu burger was tasty, we were expecting the pattie too be a bit more juicy as the waitress said they usually make it medium rare but it came more well done. The fries were amazing, crispy on the outside but super soft on the inside!<br/><br/>The service was very quick even though they were super busy, great team of staff!
Lucille Sia
Came here today for some brunch and we were quite lucky to be seated outside in the sun. Service was definitely good and kept checking if we needed more water and how the food was. Ordered pancakes with mascarpone and bacon, I found the bacon too salty and there was too much cinnamon on the thinly sliced apple toppings. I suppose it was meant to be crispy but this wasnt the case. On the other hand if you mixed the whole dish together it was definitely good. Hubby said the wagyu beef burges was okay. Loved the mango coconut smoothie while my mango iced tea was too sweet even with the ice. Some hits and misses but the ambience was good. I suppose it can make this reasonable for the prices being on the high side.<br/>

One of the most popular eateries on the North Shore that's for sure! Always see this place packed when I walk along Takapuna beach. But I have been a few times, and it is very fancy! I've had smashed eggs, avocado, chili, ricotta with pancetta and a house hot chocolate. The service is fine, not the best I've had for the price you pay for the meals. The presentation is stunning of the meals though and the view out onto the beach is amazing on a sunny day. The gelato you can take with you to walk along the beach is also a nice touch if your wanting to take someone on a cute date! Would recommended this place to anyone on the shore, if your lucky enough to get a table. Coming into a summer I see this place getting more popular than normal.
Kishore Mitra
One of the most beautifully located joints in Auckland! Incredible view of the beach, ample parking and open air dining available. Simple menu but excellent food. Reasonably decent service. While the food is priced towards the higher side, on a sunny day, it gets incredibly busy. There generally is some waiting time on those days. But if you are in Takapuna during the day and looking for a relaxed meal, this is a must try.

Really nice spot by the Takapuna wharf. Found this place by chance one day. Had no idea it was so popular. Beautiful well presented, good food. Prompt service even when so busy. I phoned ahead to see if we could make a booking but we couldn't however the gentlemen on the phone did say to guarantee a table, dine early. Busiest time is 11am till 2pm. <br/>Great place for brunch on a beautiful sunny day.

I had the deconstructed iced chocolate OMG ah-may-zing. I wanted to give it a 5  but I had the fish and chips for my cheat meal and was looking forward to it, to my disappointment the coleslaw was watery and the batter on the fish was oily. However I will be back again to have the best iced choc I have tasted in my life!!!! :)

Wow.<br/>This place is awesome!<br/>Greeted and the door, and sat inside by the window with a lovely view of the water.<br/>Coffees were perfect, and so quick!<br/>I ordered smashed egg with courgette, gremolata and pancetta and mate let me tell you- it was next level!<br/>There was some sort of creamy avo sauce which was like heaven with the courgette, and the gremolata was tangy and fresh. Pancetta was crispy and perfect. Huge plate of food!<br/>My partner ordered the grill- highlight was the sausage slab and the mushies which were caramelised perfectly.<br/>The service was friendly and really quick. Would hundred percent go back again.

Came here on Friday morning for a birthday brunch and was so incredibly impressed. First of all I was worried as this place definitely isn't for those on a budget and all items are pretty pricey. But let me tell you it was worth it. I chose the brunch salad and everything had so much flavour and the serving size was very generous and left me full. Would definitely come here again, all my friends enjoyed their meals also. So save your pennies and come down for brunch: total meal for four people, two eggs benedict's with bacon, pancakes with bacon and the brunch salad was $90.

Went here with my grandmother for her birthday, she ordered the lamb dish and I ordered the gnocchi dish with pancetta. We both loved my dish and I highly recommend it, she was ok with what she ordered. The lamb was quite bland and she asked for tobasco sauce. Service was great and the teas and salted caramel hot chocolate was amazing 😍 definitely would come back here for brunch if I'm feeling like a splurge.

Visited with friends and despite a hefty wait for a table (our choice to do so), we were offered one near the front windows; the table was really a bit small for three of us, but we decided it would do.  The  decor is contemporary and comfortable, but the atmosphere is very loud, expected as it is a bustling cafe, so not quite the place for a quiet brunch, but, I certainly understand why people come here - lovely setting and absolutely DELICIOUS food (well done Chefs!); I'm not a coffee drinker myself, but my girlfriends were very, very happy with their selections. The service was very efficient and overall, I would certainly visit again when on the Shore next.
Lovely Maralit
Ooh I love the Ice creams here! I most definitely have enjoyed the hazelnut chocolate ice cream and the salted caramel. <br/><br/>One of the times I can here for brunch it was so packed and I think the kitchen was quite busy and a staff dropped a glass and it spilled all onto my legs. Also some of the seats are a little uncomfortable. They remind me of primary school seats the one that leaves prints on your legs. Although I love the style a cushion would be nice on some only the seats specially during winter times

In summer, I would walk down to Takapuna with my girlfriend to get gelato from the Takapuna Beach Cafe and Store. The gelato is great, I'd recommend the salted caramel, it's a personal favourite and I've never been disappointed. Might be a bit cold for it in winter, but would recommend Takapuna Beach Cafe and Store to friends, family, and followers.

It was so hard choosing what I want to order! I love the fish and chips here!! The mushroom eggs benedict was really good too! Definitely my favourite cafe! Will come back and try others!

This place always seem to surprise me with their amazing food and the amazing views. Just by takapuna beach, it is the perfect location. <br/><br/>Their menu has the classic brunch food and also something different. Their gnocchi was delicious and also fish and chips (but a tad more expensive than regular takeaways :p) I only had one bad experience with some dehydrated asparagus a long while ago, but not in the menu anymore. <br/><br/>Service was great! Attentive staff! However the downside is that this place is really busy so we had to squash ourselves a bit when seated. However not complaining since they were kind enough to not limit our time at the table.<br/><br/>Walk by the beach after your filling brunch, take in the nature. :)

Friends of ours recommended this place for a tasty ice cream and/or coffee. It's a superb place with stunning views across the north shore of Auckland.<br/><br/>It's very popular so getting a seat can be a battle but there's nothing like a take away ice cream and walk along the beach!
Rose
Gelato was really nice not too bad of a price. It is usually very busy and packed so maybe visit this place in the morning or not at busy times. Though the staff are very friendly and the view os great from the cafe

Asked for a double shot flat white for take away. It was boiling hot and not a double shot. Very disappointed and would not order any takeaway from them.
Ridad
Great place to grab a coffee or a meal. The views from the restaurant are amazing and the food is expensive but worth the price. Desserts are really good too.

Best breakfast cafe ever... We love the place... Nice view outside... I always order eggs benedict bacon... Pancake is really good with fruits on it.. Reasonable price... Definitely we'll come back...
Natasha
Takapuna beach cafe is a really cute cafe overlooking Takapuna beach. <br/>Had brunch here recently and loved it.<br/>Ordered an iced chocolate and double chocolate gelato smoothie - these were both sooooo yum. Especially loved the iced chocolate. <br/>And ordered fish and chips and was very happy with it - portion size was perfect and the slaw and fish were fresh. <br/>Will definitely be back here.

Amazing experience in takapuna beach cafe. Firstly, the service is worthy of praise. Seated immediately, sparkling water to the table as the waitress introduces herself and kindly explains the menu and the different drinks they have. The food is beautifully presented and filled with fresh ingredients, the portions are quite average compared to the price but that price comes with good service and good environment, so it was all worth it. Gelato at the store are also very rich and creamy, but definitely not the best i have tried. Overall, i would love to try the other desserts at takapuna beach cafe. Hipgroup is doing very well.

Please add some more vegan or vegetarian options to your menu. A waitress told me that your chips are fried in the same fryer as the fish...WHY? It is 2016, there is no reason why you shouldn't try to cater to a diet that is now extremely common. It's lame that if I get invited here by friends or family, I can only choose out of a couple of options that are usually stripped down of 1 or 2 ingredients anyway as some of them come into contact with meat etc (your chips for example). Great place apart from that, coffee is awesome
Christian
This place is always busy- of course because of its beachfront location but also it was one of the places in Auckland made bistro style cafe popular. It's also nice touch that they offer sunscreen and hats if it's a hot summer day. Although it's busy, they have developed a very efficient system to ensure you to be seated as soon as possible. Make sure to check out their desert selection of you visit there.

The best about this cafe is its ice-cream and hot chocolate.  You can adjust the sweetness of your hot chocolate by adding chocolate chips, not adding sugar.  I have never been to a cafe like this one, which gave me chocolate chips to mix with my own cup of hot chocolate.  It was a special experience.  Morning tea time and afternoon tea time are rather busy.  Best to avoid these times so you can enjoy a quieter environment.
Alex L
Beautiful ice-cream and deserts with a beautiful view... best of the best.... cant fault this one. <br/>Had chocolate ice-cream and sorbet.<br/>They are always busy which doesnt matter to me as long as the food is great.

We eat here quite often as we are Hip Group fans. We had two coffees and eggs benedict with bacon which was lovely. Unfortunately on paying we were told it was $122.00 my husband queried saying there we didn't have that much and was treated quite rudely by the waiter. Are you objecting? He said then insisting it was correct despite further clarification from my husband. He eventually advised it was $56.00, but no apology or thank you 🤔😥 hmmmm!!

Gorgeous setting beside the sea, with a free yoga class happening on the lawn beside us with camper-vans rolling past from the camping ground next door.  This Cafe had a lovely holiday feel.  We ordered a coffee here and enjoyed the holiday atmosphere.  The food wasn't what we felt like at the time, and we ate elsewhere.  The decor was lovely and the service efficient and friendly.

I have been living in Takapuna ever since I have moved to NZ in 2001, and I can confidently say that I have been to almost all cafe in Takapuna.<br/><br/>15 years of living in this suburb, Takapuna Beach Cafe is still one of my favourite cafe in Auckland. Nice beach view, good location, easy to find car park, food made so quick (I mean really really quick!), friendly staff, and did I mention about the beach view? <br/><br/>They don't make the best tasting coffee in town, but their pancake is so great!!! Definitely worth a visit during summer time on a sunny day.
Monique Porteous
Holy moly, I can't even begin to express how much I loved my experience at takapuna beach cafe! I wish I lived closer so I could go every damn day 😍☕️. The location is EVERYTHING and the staff are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Food is great and the price suits the quality of the ingredients. I would highly recommend trying the iced selection of drinks on a hot summers morning. The decor is to die for and the menu is made from dreams. Please, I beg you, try this cafe 💕
Athena
Great cafe buzzing with people. Five of us went and we were quickly seated. I had the eggs with avocado smash which was divine! The avocado was lemony and flavoursome ans the eggs cooked to perfection. Also had the orange passion mango frappe which was very refreshing! Other items ordered are the chicken salad, pancakes and beetroot frappe which were enjoyed by other members of our group.
Jasmine Chai
Solid food, phenomenal views and excellent customer service. What more could you ask for? I know! cheaper prices! <br/><br/>Just kidding. I'm willing to pay slightly inflated prices if the cafe is also willing to deliver. <br/><br/>Ordered a mocha and liked how they served their milk and espresso separately. Very innovative! Their salted caramel and chocolate gelati were splendid! Thanks for a lovely sunday arvo tea! We will be back soon!

We were in the area and so my cousin brought up the Takapuna Beach Cafe and Store <br/><br/>It was quite busy despite the cloudy/ rainy weather. The stores interior is super "instagram-y" and nicely set out. The location is also nice and i'd imagine be extremely busy on a sunny day, as the beach is right outside<br/><br/>I got the iced chocolate, my mum and cousin got the iced coffee. We also got a slice of carrot cake and a chocolate leamington to share<br/><br/>The drinks didn't take long to come out at all. Theres a scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate/coffee sauce in the cup and comes with the milk on the side, which you pour in yourself. Very creamy but yum<br/><br/>Nice place to visit if your around here, staff are also friendly :)
Food 24/7
First time here, the cafe itself was not too busy but their ice cream parlour section was packed !! <br/>They serve sparking water which is alway a bonus :). <br/><br/>Despite having many waiters and waitress working at the cafe it is not easy to get their attention when we wanted to place our order, most of them were hanging around the open kitchen, cashier area for some unknown reason .<br/><br/>After many attempts one nice lady finally came.<br/>I ordered the Beetroot, avocado, and halloumi ($23) My partner had poached eggs, peas, pea purée, halloumi and grilled onion ($23) <br/><br/>The meals were beautifully presented. All the components went so well together , my Beetroot were delicious and my partner's eggs were very well poached <br/> <br/>Would have rated higher if the staff were more attentive. <br/>
Whiskyncigars
Fantastic location and a tad expensive but the food was absolutely worth it . I have the wagyu burger and the in house ice mocha and everything was really really good. One thing I would say is to offer still water because sparkling water is not as good. My opinion I guess. I have actually been here twice in one week.

What a great place! <br/>- customer service, tick<br/>- great food, tick<br/>- location, tick<br/>- price, tick (its a price I am happy to pay)<br/>We have been here for breakfast several times and we pick up coffee and snacks on occasion.

Me and mum love to come here for coffee and dessert!<br/>I've been coming here since 3 years ago and menu seems to change often!<br/>The food seems a bit over priced for portion wise and taste but a stunning location and staff are very friendly and attentive.<br/>Their ice coffees are top notch and of course their ice cream from the store next door is famous.<br/>We love to order the baked goods from the store and order coffee at the actual cafe<br/>Usually a waiting order in weekends and peak times.

I've dined here a few times for lunch now and always enjoy the food and atmosphere. It's definately a stand out spot in Takapuna with its location being right on the beach front and is always a good option when your around the area. <br/><br/>It's always busy especially on sunny days. I love their eggs benny with bacon and kale, as they do a great hollandaise sauce! The gelato and sweet treats are always yummy too! <br/><br/>Expectedly on the pricey side, however if you haven't tried it out its definately worth a visit.

This place had been very good, if but a little crowded inside. Went there on the Monday of Labour Weekend for brekky. My friend ordered the special whitebait fritter, and unfortunately it tasted distinctly as if had been sitting in fridge since last delivery on the prev Saturday; Like almost off. She was too polite to complain, so I had to help her eat it. Not very nice. Perhaps he was the manager, but some guy came around to ask nervously how our meals were given there was still food on the plate. In hindsight I should have said something, but was on 2nd or 3rd date with a nice lady so did not. Later found out ownership had changed hands. Not surprised. No doubt they paid a high price for this biz. Hope for value of their investment they get things back on track.

Obsessed with the gelato and the cabinet treats. Not a huge fan of the cafe menu- is always alittle overpriced for smaller portions but it is still delicious 👌🏽
FoodieOodie95
■ Friendly staff <br/>■ Great Service <br/>■ Good portion sizes<br/>■ Good view of Taka Beach <br/><br/>■ A little on the pricey end <br/>■ Quite busy and hectic <br/>■ The food menu is a little limited <br/><br/>Went here for the first time on the New Years weekend and although the weather was absolutely terrible, the place was jam packed! There was a 30 minutesish wait to be seated since it was so crowded but the staff were very kind and apologetic about it. We got the spicy corn, hand cut pasta and the Pancakes and honestly can say, it was all so tasty!! The pancake + bacon combo was a win. Great selection of flavours in drinks and smoothies, Also their gelato menu is pretty popular. Im excited to try their house iced drinks and gelato smoothies next time!

Always wanted to go here as never had the chance seeing how busy it is every weekend. Service is highly commendable and the food and coffee were very nice - although dishes were quite overpriced. A very tight squeeze around the tables and rather loud, won't be in a rush to go back.

I have dined here twice in the last 3 days. The cafe is very busy but the turn over of people is really fast - especially on a sunny day when outdoor seating is being utilised.<br/>I went for lunch on the first day, I ordered the Pillus pasta with prosciutto, green beans and a butter herb sauce, my dining companion had the wagyu beef burger with eggplant chutney and chips. Both dishes were very different from each other but both were excellent. The burger was very very juicy saucy and messy - exactly how I like it. Best eaten with a knife and fork if you are a tidy eater, however I like to get right in there and eat with my hands making a big mess 😂 The pasta was very light with the green beans, the combination with the prosciutto and herb butter was very tasty very different to what you would get anywhere else. The iced chocolate is out of this world - it is served with 60% chocolate ganache, vanilla bean gelato and carew milk. It is served with the ganache and gekato in a glass with the milk in a mini carafe to add as per taste. Delicious!!<br/>This morning I had the agria potato rosti with ricotta, courgette, bacon and avo. I also had a hot chocolate which is also made with the 60% chocolate hot chocolate.

Great place! Food is great, and so is the coffee. The service is always top notch, and they're always so friendly here. It gets super busy though, and that's pretty much all year round. Great in the summer, as it's right on the beach. Awesome place to stop by for an ice cream or a coffee before heading down for a walk along the beach.
Aniva Huang
I love this place !!<br/>Perfect location for a sunny brunch or a cosy rainy coffee <br/><br/>I'm always so impressed with their menu changes. <br/><br/>The yogurt mousse is delicious !! <br/><br/>

Stunning location with beautiful views of Takapuna beach. Very welcoming staff and lovely indoor/outdoor flow. I would definitely recommend booking a table outside to bask in the sun and really appreciate the scenery! Gelato smoothies are a must! So creamy and smooth and a lovely selection of flavours (coconut and choc is the best). The food is always beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. A trusted cafe on the shore that is very popular.. And for good reason!
Angelica Santos
One of my favourite restaurants in Auckland. Its next to Takapuna beach and the gelato is to die for! Overall great ambiance yet the food might be a bit expensive but its worth the fine dine.
Arpita Mandal
A very placed and located cafe overlooking takapuna beach.<br/><br/>The coffee is great and even better if you're sitting on the deck area of the cafe. Ice creams are awesome too.<br/><br/>Nice relaxing place for coffee and ice cream definitely.
FoodiePhysician
Very nice setup; open sea views and relaxing atmosphere. Very busy; expect a wait at peak meal times.<br/><br/>Friendly and fast service.<br/><br/>Had the ice coffee, corn on the cobb, fish and chips and the slow roasted lamb for lunch.<br/><br/>Fish and chips are very good amd fresh, and large in portion. The lamb was served with a refreshing side of lentel coriander and labneh. Lamb was on the tough side, requiring a lot of chews, a bit of a downer to an otherwise great lunch.<br/><br/>3.5 Yums

I'm a big dessert person and was very satisfied with the range of sweet treats they had in store. Their ice creams are perfect to enjoy while staring at the view and desserts stocked in the cabinet were also delectable! They are served with a generous amount of mascarpone cream. I am a big fan of the pour-it-yourself hot chocolate which is not too overwhelming and made with a high quality chocolate. Also a notable mention to their wonderful front staff who are lovely and helpful in explaining the desserts and their menu!
Lily
A very nice clean cafe and restaurant, and a beautiful environment. They have a good menu. I had a burger. It was truly satisfying. Also, the iced drinks are really exciting. I'll definitely go there again.

Great start to my day today - breakfast at Takapuna beach cafe. Classic summer spot, with views of the water. Modern and modest little cafe with a lovely wrap around balcony and big open windows. Few minor negatives would be that I do always feel a little cramped as tables are so close together, and wait times are quite long during peak dining times on the weekends. <br/><br/>The food menu (as are all of the Hip Group eateries) is unique and delicious! Interesting and ambitious ingredients, think really pay off in a stunningly presented and tasty meal. Today I had the pancakes with strawberry and lemon and friends had the healthy breakfast which included ricotta, eggs and avocado. Highly recommend the giving everything a try, I have no clear favourites as everything is delicious. Expect to pay a little more though as meals are a bit on the pricey end. <br/><br/>Overall, a classic summer hangout to enjoy good quality food, soak in the sun and enjoy the view.
Stef
You can regularly trust this place to provide good food and service, although nobody is perfect. We've had some hit and misses in the past however my recent visit with a friend was yummy. It was a chicken salad , very interesting and tasty. Love the gelato and sorbet; such good quality and taste.
Melissa
Spontaneously decided to take my parents to this cafe while we were having a look around Takapuna because who doesn't like a meal with a view of the sea. We went pretty late (around 2pm) so there wasn't a wait for a table yay! <br/><br/>For drinks we ordered a Flat White and the Spirulina, Apple & Greens smoothie. Nothing amazing about the smoothie, but it's nice to have alongside a meal. For food we ordered the Chicken Salad, Market Fish, and The Big Healthy. All the dishes were yummy; flavourful and nicely presented. <br/><br/>The Big Healthy: The bread (from The Big Healthy) was nice and crisp but the avocado wasn't very ripe, which was the only let down. Great to get for breakfast or if you want a light meal. <br/><br/>Chicken Salad: Didn't have a large assortment of veges so I would've liked a bit more range because the amount of chicken there was on the plate would've been too much for me to finish on my own. More meat is probably a good thing for most people xD but I like to have a better balance of meat and veges. The salad dressing was what made this dish. <br/><br/>Market Fish: I don't usually like fish but this was surprisingly good. The fish was really tender and soft but still very juicy. <br/><br/>The staff were alright; some seemed like they didn't really want to be there but the guy who recommended the smoothie for me was quite attentive in the beginning. Overall a great place to go for a meal on a nice day.
Janice Zumba
Great place to be especially if you sit outdoors on the deck where you have the view of the beach and ocean. Awesome food that isn't too heavy. Love the coffee and they have the best company ever, well behaved dogs that customers bring along with them. It's a must go to especially during the warm weather.

Good time to venture out for breakfast this morning one thing that caught my attention was the location.it Overlooks takapuna beach and its front view on rangitoto island.Big kiwi breakfast(Gf) was served with a smile fast and efficient service was provided great way to start the morning ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Maddie
Normally will come past here and see it's packed from 9am onwards but decided to come in for breakfast this morning with a friend and luckily we managed to grab a table outside! The view was lovely and we were given water and menus quite fast. We both ordered the chicken, capsicum and taboleh salads - they were amazing. The chicken was soft, the taboleh had a nice flavour, the capsicum was crunchy and the yogurt lemon sauce was refreshing! Although in the picture it looks about an average size, it was actually quite small especially for $23.. but it was definitely worth it. I also had a strawberry, lemon and yogurt smoothie which was nice but a little yogurty rather than fruity! The staff were very attentive and overall it was a really enjoyable meal and I look forward to going back!

What a great little place in summer..we popped in for a coffee and due to it bring crazy busy we sat outside! It was freezing! The guy was quick to offer a blanket which was a nice touch. I had a hot chocolate which came out very cute (little bottle of warm milk + homemade marshmallows).. My only niggle was the prices were a little high.
Essenity
Haven't actually dined in here as I just popped in to grab a refresher drink and gelato. The location itself is A+ with beautiful beach views. Would be great for a warm day to sit outside and enjoy the view. Otherwise, grab a drink or a dessert and take the short walk down to the beach and enjoy the sun like we did! <br/><br/>There was a very keen guy in front of us and the girl at the cashier spent quite a while talking to him. <br/><br/>I had a espresso chocolate gelato. It wasn't too sweet so to my liking. However it was more chocolate than espresso probably due to the generous extra bits of chocolate I got. <br/><br/>My friend got a juice/smoothie drink. They have quirky flavours and I wasn't feeling that adventurous. That being said, I think I would go back and try my hand at being adventurous next time.
Samantha Beardsley
The food was delicious and the service was spot on. We were offered blankets to keep warm in the breeze outside which was very thoughtful. There was no long wait for food or drink. Overall experience was very positive and I would definitely recommend / dine again.
GideonMarisa MasterchefNz2015
Great location good food choices but again slightly let down by the staff who didn't seem "connected" to the place .. Rather mindless at what they were doing and the service was average to best
Maya Harlin
It is our first time to have lunch at this restaurant. The lunch menu offers really good price. The staff provided excellent service. .you must try the bacon benedict. thanks and we had a very lovely dining experience. we would definitely go back again!!

This is definitely one of my favourite cafes. It has the ambiance, service and great food to make it one of the best. The price is a bit on the expensive side for me but it's definitely good to come here once in a whole / for special occasions :) <br/><br/>It's also great how there's parking nearby (although you might have trouble finding parking since it can get bait easily) and that the beach is right there <br/><br/>I had the agria with mushroom and it was soooo good! I've had agria from other places like dear jervois and they can't compare to this. Like I thought agria rosti is how Takapuna beach make it! So tasty and satisfying. The eggs bene was had by my bfriend the last two times and he likes it. I wouldn't recommend bothering to get the chips, they'll were $7 I think and just weren't all that special. Would think they should add some herb to it or provide a bigger portion and I would prefer it crunchier. <br/><br/>Definitely recommend this place and it's great to walk along the beach after a meal 😊
Jessie Tan
Been here multiple times... the service is great here but food here tends to be worse everytime I come. The folded eggs is average where it's not as tasty as it was before. Eggs bene was too average. Environment here is great tho. Also their spirulina is a must to order before but now they've changed some of the ingredient to become too watery in terms of smoothie way.<br/>Would probably just come here for its environment and maybe the bakery goods next door. Note that pets are welcome!
Elizabeth Harding
I had the soft scrambled eggs with pulled pork, which were incredible - literally so good!<br/>Only thing that lets this place down is that it's super loud, with the kitchen open, right beside the dining area. There's also staff constantly walking back and fourth past your table, which is a bit annoying. <br/>It's certainly not somewhere to relax, but is nice food.
Angela (A Style Collector)
I have been here to eat but I've lined up just for their gelato a lot more times. This place is one of the best cafes in Takapuna for me. It is always busy but the food is great although it is on the pricey side. <br/><br/>My favourite is their gelato. They are my favourite and worth lining up for if its a warm day. One scoop is $5, 2 scoops $7 and 3 scoops is $9 which I find really reasonable. <br/><br/>This was the first place I tried the salted caramel gelato from and that was a few years ago when salted caramel wasn't even a big thing yet. I have tried the chocolate honeycomb, lemon curd, mango sorbet, chocolate hazelnut and espresso too and they're all good.
Helena Chen
Part of the amazing HIP group family on Auckland, featuring amazing icecream gelato and great food. I came here with friends on a sunny day for said icecream, and I also got a watermelon juice as it was a pretty hot day. The icecream is very similar to that at their other stores; super creamy, smooth and full of flavour without being overly sweet. The watermelon juice tasted fresh and authentic, such a good thirst quencher! The staff were all lovely, despite the very busy day they were having. Will definitely be returning to try some food next time!
Yuyon Cho
Although the food and coffee may not be the best on the shore, the service is absolutely amazing here. I didn't get the name of the girl but she makes my day every time I pay a visit to this cafe. She's a small Asian girl who says "thank you so much" a lot and she never fails to brighten my mood. I haven't been to the cafe for about 2 months so I really hope she's still working there. People complain about the overpriced food but the location and experience is well worth it.
Paula Cann
Yummy ice-cream on a summer's day or evening (if a little busy), great service friendly staff and good food (came her for brunch with a friend) - but make sure you get in early!
Priscilla Khang
Beautiful location for breakfast and lunch. Service and food is really good, however the wait can be quite long if the place is very busy. I got the croquette which was very nice however I found it just a little bit too acidic for my liking
Tessa
The takapuna beach cafe and store sell the most amazing ice creams and ice drinks. My favourite flavour is the salted caramel. For the iced drink you are given ice cream with milk and chocolate ganache (if you order iced chocolate) and can put the drink together yourself. The chips here are also amazing.
Scott Kennedy
Great spot for Breakfast, friendly staff, good vibe and great views. Was surprised to be charged $16.50 for nothing more than two poached eggs on a single slice of toast with some kale.
Tanya Kerr
Lovely location and the decor is crisp and clean. A great place for brunch, although the service here could be improved upon. The staff just need to be more attentive - we were waiting around for quite a bit.
Julia Nguyen
It is really nice cafe and in a perfect location!!! The food and drinks are good. My friend and I love the salted caramel iced chocolate 👌👌 <br/>However, the cafe was really busy and we were waiting for quite long to get a table. Took us 20-25mins but I still would come back here again. Staff are friendly and try to do their best. It will be perfect in summer days!! Sunshine & the beach & coffee are all in one place :)
Food Adventures With AnnaJ
Spent a wet sunday afternoon with friends, catching up over coffee and cake. While we were seated quite quickly we couldnt get the attention of staff to take our order for over 20 minutes. The sweets selection was so great but hassle having it in the cabinet on the outside of the cafe. I ordered the (last) baked cheesecake which had a yummu flavour but the texture was more brownie than cheesecake. My friend has the berry brioche which was good. Coffee came out reasonably quick and was good but again couldn't get the staffs attention for a second round. I was also surprised that my very small latte cost $5 however the cake selection was cheaper than expected.<br/>Absolutely loved the location and views and the decor suited the vibes well. I would like to try the gelato on a dunny summers day.
J Li
Nice setting and friendly staff. But to be honest, the food and coffee are average , but its price is above average. It's slightly overrated im afriad.
Petra
Great service and location but the food is always average. Had the eggs Benedict and there was only a teaspoon of hollandaise sauce and the eggs were undercooked (the whites were still gooey).
Lisa V
I love this place. It is such a nice place to have a coffee and or brunch/lunch. It's right on Takapuna beach so you get a nice view as well. The staff are always friendly and attentive and it is always quite busy so sometimes getting a table can be hard. The food and drinks are absolutely delicious though I do have to say slightly over priced for the portion size. I would however still say it is a must try!

WAITRESS HAS A LIKING FOR GOLD(EN RETRIEVERS)<br/><br/>Eggs Bene with smoked Trevally, yum! For those who like their coffee black, the Americano is a perfect choice. It comes in a hearty sized vessel that fits its American based namesake. Now normally, I would say "Bigger does not necessarily mean Better" but<br/>This cafe has the mastered the art of coffee making to a 'P'. Yes a P. Because P stands for Perfection. I ended up ordering two for the morning!<br/><br/>How do I know this place is dog friendly if I don't own a dog? Because my friend's Retriever Monty came with us. Monty insisted on standing right in the walkway of the wait staff and patrons. Rather than sitting/lying down out of the way, he chose to make friendly "pat me eyes" at everyone who chose to pass. Instead of asking us to move him, one of the waitresses (that wasn't designated to our table) would carefully maneuver around him each time she passed. If her hands weren't full she would gently pet his head as she went by.<br/><br/>To TBC Thank you for providing a wonderful breakfast, and for adding that extra touch of warmth to our day - especially Monty's.<br/><br/>

This is the perfect place for brunch on a summer day it's close to the beach and the outdoor sitting is exceptional, the food is good and the staff are attentive I like that after your meal you can get an ice cream and take a walk on the beach

This is my third time dining at Takapuna Beach Cafe and Store - I loved it a lot more today. I would have rated it 3.5 previously but after dining here for lunch today, I'd rate it a 4/5!<br/><br/>I ordered the snapper and my friend chose the slow-cooked lamb. You eat with your eyes - there was so much colour and everything was layed out nicely. My god, the lamb actually melted in your mouth and it was seasoned sooo beautifully. My dish as a whole (snapper and spicy cauliflower) could have had a bit more flavour and salt. It was on the sweet side. But I can't complain about the actual fish and generous amounts of veges (asked for cauliflower instead of the grains).<br/><br/>The atmosphere is always a little crowded but I love how it is right on the beach. ☺️

Very busy on the Saturday but lovely staff who served us quickly. Was seated outside in the sun on a winter day had to wait a little while for a seat but all in all was a good experience. Will defiantly go back

Finally I went for brunch at the much famous Takapuna beach cafe. The setting of the cafe is amazing. The location is the main highlight. Ordered for my eggs, almonds , broccoli and bacon dish. Presentation was great. Service is good. Will come back again to try out more.

Takapuna Beach cafe is in a prime location and I'm glad they compliment the amazing views with their cute decor and settings. We stopped by for a refresher and ordered an iced tea and grabbed a gelato from The Store next door. The tea was expensive at first glance on the menu, but when it came out, it made sense as it's served in a pitcher for sharing. The flavour gelato my friend recommended was unfortunately not available that day. Whilst the gelato was nice, it's hard to beat other gelatos out there and rather pricey too. The food looked stunning and smelled really good as they wafted past us to their respectful diners, will have to come back to try those one day when I'm in the area again.<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds  #challenge

Surprisingly average coffee. Maybe because it was really busy today? Not sure... But I couldn't drink it. It's a cute cafe tho. Can't beat the beachside view!

Stopped by with a friend and had avocado eggs benedict. Food was delicious, the view was nice (although it was a little cold because it's close to the beach - just take a thick jacket with you). It's on the pricey side - it cost around $35 after ordering a drink and a meal. Overall, good food and good atmosphere.

Their coffee is so gooooood :) It always very busy but lucky for us. They are very kind that me and my friend were sharing dish, egg benedict with mushroom, I ask for extra plate. When they sent on food, they already separated the dish into two ! So nice of them :D ! So good view, good coffee, good food and good serves what else can I say more :p love it !

A Libra Perspective
What would Takapuna be without TBC&Store. The first time I visited was and remains the best time I have ever visited, and that was over 3 years ago. I had the Agria rosti with poached egg and salmon, and spinach. Let me tell you that was a taste sensation. The rosti sadly has changed too many times since then, and while I admire the creativity, it hasn't been as good. In fact the last time and final time I had it the rosti was reduced to a few agria potatoes and some very crispy pancetta, which was to say the least, disappointing. <br/><br/>Their eggs benedict is the next best thing for me and could have been better I'm afraid. Fries however are great, and their other menu options always look tantalising, sometimes strange but I get the fine dining vibe and I'm open to it. Their coffee is good. Their cold drinks are better, and the do it yourself presentation is novel and a winner. Also very generous and a hit with the young people. Haha. <br/><br/>The atmosphere is okay. Weekend crowds are impossible and inconvenient, they also beckon wait times with a fun lobster timer. I hate their cramped seating and the tables are frankly ridiculous. The cane chairs are also cumbersome and, while on theme, just not comfortable. More of the long tables need to be implemented with better chairs. Not everyone enjoys outdoor seating, but they make a point of looking after you in summer.<br/><br/>Room for improvement: honestly consider offering one version of the Agria rosti, it used to be so great and please rethink your seating. The round tables offer no space and the chairs are just awkward. Service can be hit and miss but it's understandable as this can be a demanding eatery. Most of the time though wait staff do a great job and have been really helpful. Sparkling water also shouldn't be your standard, and im sure it's expensive when wasted on fussy customers like me who prefer still.<br/><br/>Overall, Takapuna Beach Cafe wants to be the best in town, and it certainly can be. It's standards are high, but it's atmosphere disappoints. It's a stunning building, prime location and shines in summer as it should. However, I find myself being put off returning after each visit, for one reason or another.

Beautiful, elegant cafe right by the beach. It was nice sitting on the deck area and breathing the salted hair and listening to waves hitting the shore. We ordered a dessert sharing board (milse menu), which was such an art that looked beautiful and tasted great. We just couldn't have enough of it! We also ordered the berry smoothies which tasted really fresh and non-artificial as it was only slightly sweet. One disappointment was the staff's attitude, as my friend and I are both in our teens so the waitress actually asked us whether we could afford the sharing board (which was $40), I was alright with the question, but thought it might be offensive to other people so that'll be something that can be worked on for later! Overall, liked the place and my personally favourite was the pecan tart and chocolate coconut ice cream.

An outstanding place to dine by the beach. Has fantastic views all round. The food is great and the dessert menu, especially gelato, is phenomenal. Highly recommended. Will go again.

The perfect place for brunch by the beach! Awesome food and amazing location. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Always super busy, so good to come early!

Great place, great food. The iced coffee is rather well done and worth ordering. This place is always busy, for good reason, expect a wait on the weekend. Probably one of the best cafes on the shore, just wish the tables provided better legroom.

The coffee here is amazing, both hot and cold. The mains are delicious and quite large. Love the sweets here. Always busy, have to wait for a table every time.

I LOVE the location of the Takapuna Beach Café and Store. It has such a nice atmosphere and is perfect for a weekend brunch especially on a sunny day.<br/><br/>The coffees are always made just the way that I like them so I usually have a couple while I am there. I love that they serve sparkling water which is always a bonus for me and sets them apart from regular cafes. <br/><br/>There menu changes slightly during the year as they use fresh seasonal ingredients. I love eating seasonal local food so this is what always attracts me to the Hip Group cafes. My favourite is the seasonal market fish dish (usually around $28) which is really healthy and full of flavour. I haven’t tried their gelato but people that have tried it, rave about it. <br/><br/>It is busy but it is always worth the wait.<br/><br/>One of my favourite cafes in Auckland – make sure you visit this little gem!

On a warm sunny day and by the beach this cafe has a soothing atmosphere.<br/>The staff are caring and attentive; you don't want to leave.<br/>I ordered the beetroot salad with mint, quark and hazelnuts. The dish was delicious, everything was fresh and vibrant and seasoned perfectly. The beetroot had a nice bite, and the hazelnut puree was something I've never tried before but enhanced the earthiness of the other elements in the dish nicely.<br/>But my favorite thing is their special salted caramel house iced drink. Takapuna Beach Store & Cafe is one of my favourite cafes in the North Shore region.

I have been here more than a few times now.<br/>They sell some amazing home made ice creams as well as baked goods from the store.<br/>Next door the coffee shop/resturant is perfect. It overlooks takapuna beach, the staff are super friendly and genuine.<br/>The food while pricey is spot on and the coffee is great.<br/>Its a perfect spot to take your wife/partner for lunch or breakfast

TOP 10 PIC - I love this cafe for many reasons - the location is prime! The decor is on fleek and the food is devine. Im regularly here over the summer months, picking up coffee before my walk, or an icecream during my beach session. I occasionally sit down and eat, but getting a table can prove to be quite hard, Considering this joint gets packed. Their baked goods are on parr with THE STORE Britomart, so expect nothing but amazing! On this occasion, I thoroughly enjoyed a smoke bacon hock soup with crusty sourdough, no nasty bones, heavily herbed and lots of vegetables made this soup super hearty and full of goodness. I washed this down with a freshly squeezed juice and a flatwhite. Fantastic I say! Its a little gem and You find this cafe the same. Must try!

I was so pleased with my experience at Takapuna Beach Cafe. I was a bit concerned looking over the menu - there is a complete lack of vegetarian options which I think they certainly need to change. However I managed to talk to the (friendly, understanding and attentive) waitress about my dietary requirements and ended up ordering an heirloom tomato salad with beautifully seasoned smashed avocado on top, as well as a side of baked potatoes which I sliced into the salad - divine. The staff were all vibrant and made the cafe a nice place to be. <br/><br/>My only complaint would be the complete lack of tables for groups of more than 2 people - the 3 of us were crammed around a tiny round table to begin with and had to ask to move to another seat where we had two of these tables and therefore enough space to eat. The tables themselves were a flawed choice for a cafe, considering the stand was so wide you couldn't really comfortably fit your legs underneath it (and I'm not even a tall person). <br/><br/>Overall a great experience and would definitely go again!<br/><br/>Overall: <br/>Food: 4.5/5<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Value: 3/5<br/><br/>Instagram: @recoveringraw

One of my favourite cafés in Auckland. It is located at the strategic location of beautiful Takapuna beach. If is very crowded during summer. The staff are vey helpful and polite. They will recommend their good food to you. I love the apple pancake here. It is served with lavender honey. You can have the option to have it with bacon or not. My favourite beverage here is Iced salted caramel. The whole flounder fish is also good for dinner. And they have the best fish and chip in Auckland that I ever have. The price of the good is above market price but worth trying.

Always love coming here for a iced drink or a light snack! The atmosphere and view is amazing and the food is exceptional! A little overpriced but worth every penny. The iced chocolate was delish with real chocolate and vanilla bean icecream.

While weekend mornings is a struggle to get a sitting it's worth the wait. Parking here can be tricky in summer also. Really come here for the cronuts. Leave the diet at home as these are breakfast decadence.<br/>Agria chips also hard to beat if the cronuts are sold out. Coffee is just ok but breakfasts views world class!!

Love this place! A lovely brunch/ lunch dine in cafe. The iced mocha/chocolate is something one must try. Throughout the past year their menu has changed slightly. Have never yet been disappointed by the food or service. Location is prime and the place has always been bustling each time I've been. The staff ensure glasses are always topped up with sparkling water.

This place probably don't need anymore reviews but I still think that it is worth mentioning that service and food has not changed over the years! Amazing views, ambience and excellent food and service! No matter how busy they are! Keep it up guys!

My wife took me here a few months ago now, but even though very busy it still remains the best place I've been to for breakfast!! <br/>When it's busy they have derived a clever gadget in the shape of a crayfish that will allow you to go for a walk along the beautiful takapuna beach, then when there is a table free it will start vibrating. <br/>Eggs Benedict is always the breakfast of choice, and a gauge for me and my wife to see how good the place is. This one we give a 9.5. Best beni's ever!!! Great location, great service, and even better food!!

Has been on our to do list for a while til we found some time to go in over the summer holidays. <br/>First impression: What a lovely location!!<br/>The place is set up in a really nice spot looking over the beach with outdoor and indoor seatings, nice decor and set-up with a lot of thought put into it. It was however, just a little cramped up in our part of the cafe probably due to that day being so busy. <br/><br/>The cafe was bustling with customers but they still managed to employ the right amount of staff whom are all attentive and friendly.<br/>At first I thought, "wow with this amount of customers, will we ever get out order? "<br/>This thought was however broken when our drinks arrived within a couple minutes.<br/>Breakfast menu was precise and simple. I didn't try the menu itself but opted for just the simple eggs and mushrooms on toast which kept to it's expected standard.<br/>Overall, good atmosphere and a well worth experience.

I just remembered that i've been to this wish list restaurant but never wrote a review!<br/><br/>This place is always packed and you will know why once you get your table. This place is something else. The view the decor the menu the service... A lot of thought and effort has been put into this place. Proud to say that I even kinda know the GM who was nice enough to acknowledge and say hi!<br/><br/>We had the sausage dish, soft egg with sausage slab and eggs bene. Sausage was more Indian style and the rice didn't quite go well with me being breakfast. I could understand the thought behind it but didn't hit the mark. The soft eggs with sausage slab was divine and will be my pick next time I go.<br/><br/>Overall, its an Auckland icon for me and a place I would take any explorers of the city to.<br/><br/>Side note - make sure u order a ice coffee to see how its served. I won't spoil it for u :)

Staff was really nice and attentive, with exceptional manners and patience. I also liked how they were ethnically diverse. Love their presentation, however the Milse desserts were too sweet for my taste, and the normal food menu is SO expensive, that I didn't bother ordering.<br/>The $9 iced coffee is really nice though, with a not-too-sweet vanilla ice-cream and the coffee mixing to form an addicting taste. The view of the beach is awesome, however would be better if the place was more spacious. Overall, great experience, and would love to go again to try the cheaper foods.

Update!: <br/>May menu; Was delighted to arrive to revamped menu! We ordered the staple whole baked flounder but with confit garlic, tomato, olives- amazingly tasty as always! As well as line caught fish which was a deep sea South Island fish 'Boar' ha never tried an to my surprise was very nice white meaty fish, it was accompanied by lentils an broccoli sesame. <br/><br/><br/>Probably my favourite place to go for lunch in Takapuna, with a prime location to top. Always pumping an often have to wait for tables especially if you arrive in lunch time rush. I've had the line caught market fish (tarakihi) an they kindly served it with some fresh sautéed greens which was lovely! Defiantly recommend along with the flounder which is succulent an tasty an incorporated lovely balancing flavours. Paddle crab omelet also a plus an leave room for an gelato!

What a disapponitment! After seeing some positive feedback about this cafe,I decided to give it a go. The place was super crowded during Saturday lunch time, luckily after waiting for 10 minutes,we managed to grab a seat outside. My boyfriend ordered affogāto which was really to his liking, and I had a cup of vanilla bean gelato smoothie. We were both happy with the flavour overall. So, drinks alone was the highlight.<br/><br/>However, when it comes to the mains, we were not impressed at all. First of all, I ordered egg Benedict with trevally, a simple dish that could hardly go wrong with. When it arrived, the plating and presentation was average, but the flavours were even below average. Some soggy spinach hid underneath which had no dressing at all. The toast was even worse, hard to cut through and too chewy. The hollandaise source also lacked flavour. The only strong point was the smoked trevally, which cooked nicely.<br/><br/>My bf had two meat balls with two fried eggs. That' s right. Only two dry and tasteless meatballs, better off buying same stuff from Paknsave! I don't fancy negativity, but honestly, I had a bite of his main, which was massive disappointment. <br/><br/>The most unacceptable thing was the $15 dessert. A few pieces of figs went on top with honey, cheese, biscottis. Who knows why their cheese so stunk and the biscottis so dry that totally shocked us! Why they put such a wired combination was beyond my head. I have never ever had a dessert worse than this. Just wish I hadn't spend the money on this stuff otherwise I'd be more than happy to grab gelato. Is this dessert supposed to be like this? Doubtless rip-off.<br/><br/>We ended up spending over $70 for an extremely average lunch. Overall, stuff were very attentive and helpful, plus the location is just footsteps away from the beautiful beach, having said that, The portion and the flavours were not worth this money. I don't think I'll come again.
Two Dark Coffees
Word of mouth is how I hear about the majority of cafes and restaurants I visit, and this was no exception. <br/><br/>"You must visit the Takapuna Beach Cafe" and "You'll love the Takapuna Beach Cafe" were sentences that found their way into a lot of my conversations last week. <br/><br/>This afternoon I took the trip over the bridge - risking the last of the easter break traffic - all to sit in and experience what the Takapuna Beach cafe had to offer. <br/><br/>Walking up the lightly sand-dusted wooden steps I spotted a sign I knew all to well. "The Store" it read. Being a frequenter of the Britomart store, I anticipated a high standard.<br/><br/>We were greeted by a friendly smile as we entered between the sleek glass walls that offer an almost 360 degree view of the surroundings. After being taken to a table of our choice, two glasses of sparkling water were placed on the table and we were left to look over the menu. <br/><br/>Sitting with a wide view of Takapuna Beach itself, made for a relaxing spot to catch up over an Allpress cappuccino. <br/><br/>Tempted by the centre table which held treats to good not to try we added two chocolate chip cookies to our receipt. No regrets ether! <br/><br/>Looking over the menu, meal prices start at about $25 so there isn't much for a tight week on a student budget. Although if the quality is anything like The Store in Britomart the meals are worth forking out for. The lack of a range in meal prices is where the Takapuna Beach cafe losses a point for me though. <br/><br/>In the end we left knowing that the trip over the bridge was worth it and a couple thank you texts for the recommendation were sent out.

It was our first time to visit Takapuna Beach as well as its famous beach cafe. I could just say, it was amazing! <br/>We went here for dinner at noon, and there were only few tables left. We picked a outside place to sit down on the deck. It was really a comfortable and pleasant time to enjoy! We asked the waiter to recommend some dishes, and we ordered the iced chocolate and iced coffee for a drink. I grabbed an iced chocolate. It was the best I've tasted! The ice cream and the chocolate was smoothly combined together for the suitable taste and the milk was awesome. The dishes of course was great as well. We had the fish dishes, the lamb ones and the pork ones. All of them were enjoyable.<br/>Nice trip and nice meal! <br/>Hope to visit again! Xoxo

Location: beautifully situated right by Takapuna beach - beautiful views.<br/><br/>Service: attentive, pleasant, LOTS of staff.<br/><br/>Food: very average, lacked flavour, but nicely presented.<br/><br/>Drinks: amazing! All their drinks I've tried so far are absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend the iced salted caramel and also the gelato smoothies!<br/><br/>Pricing: decent for drinks, but way too pricing for the food given.

Lovely cafe by the beach with a cute ice creamery on the side. The did was lovely and generous in size set in a lovely ambiance. The snapper, squid ink and spinach with polenta was delicious. A nice place to visit whilst takapuna.
Renee
Ordered the pork belly dish and it was absolutely delicious! Lovely table service. The staff were very polite, helpful and professional. A little bit pricy and can get busy on the weekends though :'(

This is my favorite place to take my friends on the weekend. They're always really impressed by the customer service and perfect food each time. However, if you're on a budget, this isn't that kind of dining experience - expect to spend $8 on a drink (not incl. basics) and $15 - $30 on a small meal/main. The view completes the experience - no matter the weather.

Absolutely beautiful venue.<br/>The little store attached with the ice cream is well worth the visit alone. But if you are looking for good coffee and food this place is a must check out.

All credit to the owners had a bad experience there and they immediately accepted that and were very keen to fix things <br/>Will be back soon as I get the chance

Thought we would try this place out today as we have heard so much about it. First impression was that  it was really busy only two tables inside available and two tables outside. We chose a table outside. The table and chairs were really funky however really heavy to move and for someone with small legs awkward to sit on. We ordered a couple of coffees first they were out to us in about 10 mins. The coffees were both really tasty and nicely presented. We ordered the eggs Benedict with bacon and the pancakes. We clearly said no bacon with the pancakes. Our food arrived in about 20 mins. The eggs were presented really nicely but had a little too much rocket type salad on the top. The pancakes arrived WITH bacon and drenched in the lavender syrup. I had no problems with the eggs everything about them were amazing. My friend however had huge problems with her pancakes. They were soggy, they were overpowered by lavender syrup and the strawberries tasted like they came from a can. She wasn't able to finish them as the sogginess and lavender was just too much. Overall the experience was full of mixed feelings and we left not really sold on coming back.

Am I missing something here? I just don't get what is so great about this café. Well, except for beautiful Takapuna beach being only footsteps away. I went here for lunch with a friend on a weekday. The place was crowded but we got a seat outside. Which brings me to my first point. What is with the tables here? They are so friggin' awkward, You can't put your legs comfortably under them. After being seated, we were brought out sparking water which was great. Our waiter came over shortly after. He didn't bother to mention what the burger was, what the fish was or what any of the specials were. He barely spoke English. I asked what was in the burger and he said "um..... sauce.... um...I'll go and find out" He came back and said it was beef. I ordered the burger, my friend ordered the fish and chips. I decided to cut my losses and went inside to ask another waiter what exactly was in the burger. She informed me and I went back to sit down, happy with my choice. The meals arrived and were presented nicely. My friend said the batter on her fish was really doughy. Her dish came with dried out green leaves which had no dressing on them. To be fair, my burger was good but the flavours were not to my liking. The meat wasn't a pattie but was slow-cooked beef that had been shredded. Needless to say, it wasn't the easiest thing to eat. As a rule, I don't like slow-cooked meat, especially beef. I like it rare. If I had known the burger was going to be like this I wouldn't have ordered it.  Both waiters failed to mention what kind of beef it was. The chips here are very good and are homemade. I was impressed by this. However, not sure why they chose to use tomato juice from a can as their tomato sauce. I have tried the salted caramel ice-cream here on a previous occasion and it was very good. I am sure that the other sweet-treats here and over-priced drinks may also be worth a go. But it in terms of the mains and the service, I am defiantly not convinced. The mains are extremely over-priced. I think this café has the makings of something great and I am sure many people already think this place is great but, in my opinion, they really need to make serious improvements.

Poop loved it and def recommends it to all. Everyone should def go and enjoy it as it is an amazing place. Don't miss lest you regret it for life

Very nice location and ambiance but always busy and staff are not very attentive. When we ordered, our waiter had to repeat our order 3x to make sure and they got it wrong anyway. He was distracted by all his other tables and what's going on with them. What a joke. Food was nice but very overpriced. But definitely enjoyed the view and the atmosphere.

Lovely place for a coffee and cake (or several haha)... Gets awfully busy on weekends and weekdays lunch - so brace yourself. But overall a must-visit if you're in the area.<br/><br/>I love their display of sweet treats, I've been told the ice cream is just as yum... but for me - the standout point is the fact that they serve sparkling water! LOL This has somewhat sets such places apart from other 'regular' cafes.
Lily Tiy
Overpriced food for a small portion and didn't have much variety of meals to choose from. Great view and layout of the venue but overall it was a disappointment. I was left unsatisfied with my meal so I didn't order dessert. The dessert looked amazing from the menu though.

This is one of my favourite cafes and it is a must-go in the summer. We were seated outside, on the deck with a spectacular view of Takapuna beach and the sea.<br/><br/>We had two dishes between us. The fish and chips were fantastic, at $26 were worth it. Three pieces of fresh fish fillets nicely battered (just the right amount of batter too, not overly done), served with handcut fries, tartare and a light salad. The pork was a bit fatty for my liking, could've been leaner, but the salad and apples nicely complemented the meat. <br/><br/>The iced mocha was a highlight. It came in three separate vessels, separating the milk, gourmet vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate sauce, and coffee. I loved the DIY iced coffee concept.<br/><br/>Service was very attentive and friendly. They've thought of everything: sun hats and sun screen for patrons, and lobster-shaped pagers for customers waiting for a table that allowed us to wander up to one kilometre away from the cafe to enjoy the beach while we wait. The cafe has its own ice cream and dessert shop that does takeaway so you can enjoy the treats on the beach.<br/><br/>Verdict: This is an exceptional place to visit in the summer. The menu changes and there are plenty of things to try if you are a regular. The food is fresh and some of the menu items looked quite innovative. No shortage of tempting desserts and ice cream. A 5/5 from me.

North shore again> We had our lunch at Takapuna Beach Cafe today, prompt service and the food was delicious. <br/>Why is the weather so funny? Windy! The wind almost blew me away! Where is summer? The location is fantastic. A little bit (of) sunshine would enhance everything! >3

Most likely the premier cafe on the Shore, with undoubtedly the best setting overlooking the sand at Takapuna beach! Always busy so expect to get a buzzer and wait for a short while, but they also have a takeaway counter to one side if you need a quick fix :-) Our waitress was super friendly and allowed us to go off menu which was awesome, including apparently being the first to add a double shot to my banana, cinnamon and date smoothie! The food was great which goes without saying and overall we were impressed!
Andre Cressy
We had brunch there the other weekend. Decided to treat ourselves. It was really busy so we had to wait. they gave us a pager to let us know when our table would be ready. I ordered a smoked fish tartar on toast with a poached egg. Absolutely superb. My wife had pancakes which were to her liking. The price was a little more than most other places charge for brunch but the quality of the food and the service was impeccable.  If you dont mind the fact you may have to wait its a great place to go. And if you do have to waitg you are right at the beach.
Bruce Batters
Food was so amazing. I'll definitely be back. Only thing that lacked was the service but they were super busy on a nice sunny day. It is pricey but the flavours make up for it. Would also be great if they had a couple more kid friendly options other than pancakes and chips.

I was wondering if this place had improved in the light of a number of positive reviews - it hasn't!<br/><br/>But on the positive side they now Donna on and eggs (see previous review) but the bacon is still awful (funny colour, dry and over salted) and their chorizo styled sausage roll for breakfast is just in pleasant.<br/><br/>The pancakes were dry.<br/><br/>The coffee was lukewarm (I asked for extra hot based on previous experience) and average.<br/><br/>Service was okay.<br/><br/>It's the black sheep of the Hip Group restaurants (see the reviews for Ortalana and Amano).<br/><br/>A better place to go is the Red Cup up the road.<br/><br/>This is what I said last time:<br/><br/>I use to go here for breakfast but hadn't been for a while, so I thought I would try it again with my daughter. I was disappointed to see that the good old basics like bacon and eggs etc had been replaced with more 'innovative' dishes - nothing really appealed but I tried the black pudding dish. It was dry and tasted bland. My daughter had the pancakes - they were okay. The coffee was average and Luke warm. The service and the location was excellent but this is off set by the food and the price. Will I go back - not until they go back to the basics and get them right. If you want a good breakfast go to the Little King down the road in Milford - no view but the sage fried eggs are to die for.<br/><br/>Update - we took advantage of the Aus vs Eng World Cup match as we knew the cafe would be quiet and it was. We had the Eggs Benedict with bacon X 2 and the kids had the pancakes and flat whites. The food was okay but as one of the other reviewers said - the quality is definitely going down hill. The coffee was lukewarm.<br/><br/>We have decided not to try it again and we will stick with Jam or Little Kings.

Had a wonderful breakfast here. Awesome place to be and I would say, one of the best in Auckland. Environment 5, staff friendliness 5, food 5, coffee 5. Just be here early in order to get a table. Otherwise, the bakery takeaway is awesome too. Cronut FTW!!

This cafe is hands down one of the best in Auckland. In fact, the only reason I gave it a 4.5 is because we had to wait for quite a long time as we had a large group of people, but this may change due to the amount of people you have. Service is friendly and items are recommended to us. The food was came out moderately quickly, but it was worth it. I would definitely recommend the fish and chips as it is done very nicely and I might sound pretty crazy here, but you can't leave without trying the gelato.

Went here with a friend on Sunday morning, was busy as usual and we had to wait about 15 minutes. We sat for about 10 minutes with no service so i had to signal a waitress and then she went and got another waitress. When she finally came to take our order she barely spoke english making it hard to order. <br/>Our iced mochas and chocolates were delicious but the chips were soggy and unappealing. <br/>Better service would be nice and prices are inflated for what you receive.

Went here once for a meal. It took awhile and was rather expensive for a very small portion.<br/>I'd suggest this place for the great gelato, hot chocolates and cookies to take along the beach.<br/>Choc hockey pokey is soo good

First off let me say that I LOVE the Hip Group cafes and often frequent them knowing I will be rewarded with wonderful food and great service. I wanted to take a friend to lunch today to celebrate some good news so suggested that we meet at the Takapuna Beach Cafe. <br/>I'm afraid to say that I wont be back to this cafe after today's experience. I could not believe how bad the food was. I ordered folded egg and leek with bacon. I Could not eat the bacon as it was burnt to a crisp and the egg (too much of it) was dull and a greyish colour. My friend ordered the beetroot salad which had a grey meringue top which I thought was weird. She ordered chips which arrived unattractively displayed on a dish with many of them burnt. I could not eat my lunch and when I asked for the plate to be taken away she asked if the meal was alright and I said "no" - she almost seemed to expect me to say that. <br/>All in all I was most disappointed and will need to take my friend out again somewhere else to compensate. <br/>What has happened here? This is so unlike the hip group?

Came here this morning with my partner. <br/><br/>The food was amazing the best breakfast I had in a while. My partner and I have been to a lot of places and this is one of the best. My only concern would be the portion sizes I think for $25 and $28 there should be a lot more on the plate. But that is me nitpicking. <br/><br/>The coffee was good, the barrista did a perfect shot. I ordered a smoothie which was yummy and could taste all the flavors. I did order a coke and had to wait as the waitress forgot. But again nitpicking. <br/><br/>I think as the café it could be cleaner and more space need to be needed. I understand it being a popular café but I believe that tables should be not so close together that your bumping in together. <br/><br/>All in all a great place and will be back.
Sam Bolger
These guys burnt my takeaway sandwich and offered to replace it. But then gave me the burnt sandwich again.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, by the time I realised that I'd been burnt twice, I had left.<br/><br/>I was very disappointed. Coffee was OK.

Lovely Cafe!<br/>I was amazed at how busy it was for a Monday morning, I guess it shows how popular and good they are.<br/>I was dismayed when I didn't get much of a greet at the door, however when I got to my table, I got prompt and polite service, and all with a smile. <br/><br/>The coffee was ok, but nothing outstanding, it also took it's time getting to me, again though they were busy and I can forgive them for that!<br/><br/>I ordered the short ribs eggs Benedict, however that wasn't available so I ordered the slab bacon, brioche and eggs how you want them. Food was lovely and also quick, poached eggs were done perfectly, and the brioche was a nice twist on a standard 'eggs any style'.<br/><br/>The highlight for me however was the outstanding service, one of the staff members warned me about my car in line to be ticketed by a warden, I managed to avoid a heavy fine, and when I got back from moving my car, they replaced my coffee without any comment from me! Truly exceptional!

Given how busy the café always is, I thought the food would be awesome... oh how wrong I was. <br/><br/>I went there for breakfast with a group, nothing on the menu appealed for breakfast, so I asked if I could please just have a BLAT (its a breakfast staple isn't it? always an easy thing to throw together?) I was told they don't have tomato, avo or normal lettuce!!! Whaaat??!! So I had the rostie with ham. I received a luke warm potato rosti, ham, a mountain of soggy unseasoned cold spinach and 1 tiny tiny wedge of feta for breakfast, no sauce or dressing. I felt sick for the rest of the day as all I could taste was the oily rosti. This 'meal' cost $23!!! <br/><br/>The service was ok, we had a lovely lady, and a guy, the guy was a bit abrasive and the way he asked if you would like a drink was more like an order! in all fairness to them, the meals were delivered quickly, which was great, because it meant we could leave quickly.<br/><br/>Between the food, and the ridiculous cost of it, I will not be back. IMO the place should have been left an as ice cream shop &amp; diary for the camping ground.
Alex
Had lunch there with my boy friend. The food was okay portion compare to price. But I don't really like their menu setting, very few items on the menu, even have no salad.<br/><br/>Good service, good view, but bit pricey for a Cafe.
Kate
I'd rather eat stones in a pool full of sharks. Staff made no effort to be welcoming. The food was embarassingly amateur, everything was wilted and the meal was tepid. My child cooks better than they do. I won't put myself or my guests through that experience again.

Lunch with a party of six. The cafe was full but we were given a token and asked to wait. A few minutes later it flashed and buzzed and we were shown to our table.<br/>Great staff with smiles and personality who were happy for us to take the time we needed to explore the menu - which has an interesting range. The waiting staff were also very happy to answer questions we had. Very pleased to see use of free range and sustainable produce on the menu.<br/>Once the order was placed we didn't have to wait too long before the food arrived. One plate had poached rather than fried eggs and when we point it out the error was corrected swiftly and with apologies. The food was all excellent with the exception of the squid which my daughter ordered - it was bland. When the waitress came to clear plates she asked how it was and on hearing she immediately apologised and offered a replacement meal. My daughter had already had food shared by the rest of us so wasn't that hungry any more. The waitress then offered a pastry or pudding - which she did take up. The barista produced excellent coffee and the ice cream was first rate.<br/>An enjoyable experience, good food, great service with smiles and personality. We will certainly be back. Thank you to all the staff.
Vicki Niethe
My hubby, daughter and I went for a light breakfast. The food was ok, but the service was pretentious. Snobbery is not ok when serving customers. No smiles, just nose in the air, I think a cardboard cutout would have more personality than the two guys who served us. Great surroundings, I have grown up on the Shore, but please get some really nice people who know how to chat and make your eating an experience.

The second time I've been disappointed, definitely wont be back!! I ordered grilled chicken thighs, squashed potato &amp; Spanish red salad, oregano and lemon vinaigrette. More like grilled chicken thighs on week old potato salad they found in the back of the fridge. Where the "Spanish red salad" was I don't know .... oops there was one bit of old soggy squashed tomato in there, and there was no oregano that i could taste.<br/><br/>Bloody waste of $23. People flock there for the location, definitely not for the food that's for sure. Never again.
Park Sleep
Wonderful I liked the fact that it is alcohol free so it makes it suitable for all ages. The staff seem young with not much experience but that is very beach like New Zealand. Stayed at the motorcamp, walked over to the cafe and store. Location seemed to be the forgiving factor when it came to rating the ordinary food. Loved the water supply. Be careful when parking, noted a very confusing number of signs in the public car park which is visited often by parking wardens.
Fiona Lane
Disinterested staff, ignored us waiting to be seated and was then dismissive when grudgingly attended. We ordered cooked breakfasts and when the food came it was disappointing, the food was barely warm, it had been sitting on the pass too long. No follow up, we spent half our time trying to catch the waiters attention so we could ask for coffee. We would have ordered desserts but were so irritated that we went elsewhere. These guys are resting on their laurels. What a waste of a stunning location.
Kim Neville
I had a really disappointing meal at Takapuna Cafe and the service was terrible. When the waitress asked me if I had finished my meal that was only half eaten I had to mention that it wasn't very nice. My friend and I then waited and waited for someone to come back as we wanted a coffee. No one came back to our table, so as we were leaving to pay I mentioned again our disappointment in our food to the manager who wasn't at all interested or sympathetic and didn't care when we said we're going up the road for coffee as no one would serve us.
Lucas Harris
Absolutely terrible. By far the worst restaurant experience I have ever had.<br/>The service was average at best, not friendly at all - but admittedly very efficient.<br/>The food was bloody awful, my beef burger consisted of beef (a good start I guess) some mixed greens and stale buns. The chips that accompanied it were quite good, but i was disgusted at the salad which looked like a supermarket mix - and it didn't even have any dressing on it!<br/>My wife had the squid, which she was equally displeased with.<br/>Highlights of our visit to this glorified fish and chip shop were the orange juice and the stunning location.<br/>We will definitely not be returning or recommending this establishment to anyone.

Delicious pies! Great location
Kali Windmill
Very good service, very friendly, the hot drinks are the best in Auckland, as for the food I haven't tried it by looking at previous reviews I won't be eating here.
Shane Wotherspoon
I had breakfast the other day, and the food was amazing, the service was fantastic. The staff were really welcoming and friendly and what I liked was the speed of service, didn't keep me waiting but wasn't rushed either, the perfect balance. Breakfast was great, and the coffeee outstanding. Thanks guys!!!!

Went yesterday, to my husband's disappointment they have taken the livers off the menu as this is what he came for. I ordered the beetroot and pumpkin salad which was nothing like it said, in fact it made me feel sick. It was so drenched in a flavourless but sickly dressing and the salad was mushy. So disappointing. I pinched the toast off my husband's plate which was nice. He had sausages n eggs n tomatoes n stuff which was pretty average.
Mel
Unlike most beach side restaurants this place is superb. They don't take the fabulous location for granted. The food is inventive and delicious, the service great. Last time I was there we sat outside and it got a bit chilly. Instead of turning on power-wasting heaters, they brought us cozy blankets to keep our shoulders warm while we waited for a table inside. It's the best thing about Takapuna. World class excellent.
Amanda
Such an asset to the north shore, I always bring out of town visitors that stay with me here and I'm never let down.<br/>The wait staff are courteous and professional and the food is always exceptional, and the view is great. <br/>I usually order the portobello mushrooms with poached eggs and it's always spot on.<br/>The table next to us had ordered the high tea and it looked so good, so will have to come back and try that.<br/>Leave room for one of their award winning ice creams from the adjoining ice cream shop, delicious!
Kay Adams
I loved everything about this place. I went on a day which was horrible weather and the cafe was still completely packed. I had a nice spot all to myself and ordered one of their gelato smoothies. So good! The lemon curd gelato blended with trim milk and yoghurt, nearly drunk the whole thing is one mouthful! For lunch I had the salmon with the scrambled eggs on the home made croissant loaf. Loved how it was home made, tastes 10 times better. Can't wait to go back when the sun is shining!
Sandy R
Nice location, average food and but well overpriced, plus small portions. Table service was very good and they served sparkling water which was appreciated. Their coffee is excellent. Would suggest they change their seats which are most uncomfortable.<br/><br/>The place was very busy and it was sad to see tables occupied by customers who should have been doing their office work at the 'office' instead of vacating them for others.
Jin Gao
Went there for breakfast/brunch last sunday. Ordered an eggs bene which was delicious. The location is beautiful, only draw back was that the place was wayyy too busy ( and i can see why) had to wait 15 min for a table for two and when i sat down, i was pretty much sitting on top of the lady next to me. <br/><br/>Service was good <br/><br/>Would definitly return in the near future :)
Nikki
beautiful location! went here just yesterday very busy they had a surcharge but is expected as most places have surcharges too. My mango sorbet smoothie was absolutely devine, very refreshing!<br/><br/>had egg bene evrything delish but the hollandaise sauce was just abit too buttery for my liking. <br/> <br/>will be visiting again!!
Graeme Crickett
Have been twice for breakfast over the last month and was very happy with the food and standard of service on both occasions (weekend and week days).<br/>The staff were also very adept at handling the organsational and comfort side of things on a very busy weekend, including offering blankets. Our two overseas guests (a Brit &amp; Singaporean) both commented favourably on the quality/ friendliness of the service. My comment to management...you have wonderful and knowlegeable staff.
Mark
Went to Takapuna Beach Cafe as an Easter treat for the family. Leisurely breakfast in a great location.<br/><br/>Well it was leisurely and it is a great location; but my gripe is over the surcharge.<br/>Come on. I know its "buyer beware" and I should have looked closer, but I thought that we had all got over the need to charge an additional 15% on top of what are not cheap meals.<br/>On top of that my daughter ordered an orange juice. $8.00 !!!<br/>Yep - I should have checked the price before I let her order it but I can't help but feel ripped off.<br/>$6.00 for a side order of bacon - 2 slices!! It just all became too much. <br/>$130 for 4 breakfasts - it leaves a bitter taste. Unfortunately the coffee didn't - very weak.<br/><br/>Don't get me wrong - I am willing to pay top money for great food. I am no scrooge when it comes to dining out - but somehow I feel quite sullied after this experience.<br/><br/>This is the first time ever that I have posted any sort of review, so please take heed that possibly I am not the only one that is disappointed - just the one motivated enough in this instance to say something about it.<br/>Thanks for reading.
Lucia
The best Mocha in Auckland! I come here regularly whenever I am over the bridge and in need of coffee (which is pretty much everyday)<br/>Haven't tried the food yet, but the bf assures me that it is all good. He had the morrocan eggs which looks very interesting. They have an extensive menu, which I would definitely like to try sometime.

After reading some of the negative reviews yesterday we were a little apprehensive about going but we had been told by friends that it was a good place for lunch so we trusted their judgment and went today. And aren't we glad we did? What a great cafe in a perfect setting. We were met by a really friendly man and seated quickly even though it was packed. Water was delivered to our table instantly. My husband ordered the iced coffee which came beautifully presented with a huge scoop of icecream and I ordered a mango spritzer which was a scoop of mango sorbet and a glass of soda water, all set out so I could do it myself which was a lovely touch. My husband ordered the vegetarian breakfast which was huge and had some really different ingredients like avocado herb crush and chard. He announced that it was the best veggie breakfast he had ever had! I ordered the Morrocan eggs which was a delight. We are so glad we went and will most certainly be back. The place was clean and the staff friendly and attentive.<br/>PS. Love the fact that they serve free range eggs. And even though I am a vegetarian, the place gets my thumbs up for using ethically produced meat.

Nice looking place in a good location, however the service is absolutely shocking. We were harrased by waitresses for having a pastry which was purchased from their bakery which is part of the same cafe in the same building. I understand if I had brought outside food/drink in but I purchased this at their little takeaway area, before we decided we would sit down and order some coffees. My friend who was with me even ordered brunch off the menu. They charged me extra so I could eat the pastry which I purchased from their shop while we had coffees and brunch there. Pretty damn pathetic, if you ask me. Waitresses were so rude, I was actually shocked. For a nice looking place, one would expect good service. However, you wont find it here. Never returning again and I will always tell everyone I know how crap this cafe is.

This is the worst experience having a meal in my life. <br/>My wife and I went to Takapuna and decided to have branch here, As I was so interested in Moroccan eggs on the menu which I saw it at the famous book. <br/>The chefs were quite relaxed even they had a lot of ordering. After I received my dish, I enjoyed it. I found 1 small hard stuff, but did not mind it. Then I found another one, I asked them what was happen. "This is definetely stone, and this is the second pieces."<br/>The waiter went to ask chef but their answer was "this is one of the lentil, so it isn't any problem"<br/>I was so dissapoint it but when I made my payment, I saw their manager and asked him. But he said "are you all right your tooth?"<br/>That's it. What is the hospitality? I am so ashamed it as I am in the same industry. <br/>Also they have a open kitchen but nobody has a hut, wipe their hands by tea towel. <br/>They said they have gold A hygine rate. <br/>It was so funny, and I really wanna ask to Auckland city council about giving them Gold A rate. <br/>I never come back there and their branch in Auckland. So sad.
Love Food
Recently enjoyed a relaxing lunch with friends overlooking Takapuna beach - Its the kind of place that helps you feel like your on holiday ( even when you really just have 45 minutes for lunch )<br/><br/>We both chose a kind of Moroccan breakfast/brunch dish featuring beans, bacon and eggs. Perfect for a glorious but definitely still with a chill in the air late winter lunch. All was cooked beautifully and rather than have dessert at the table we opted instead for one of their home made ice creams from the shop -The ice cream here is the best and most delicious I have tasted in New Zealand. A must Try before you Die!

Went here for brunch and was severely disgusted by the rude waiters pretentious attitude. He made some sarcastic remark to find our own seat, when there is a sign right where you enter which states "please wait to be seated". Thankfully we didn't have to put up with him for long as the girl who took our meal orders was much nicer. The food however, was severely lacking in flavour and the portion was tiny. $17.50 for Eggs Benedict with sautéed chard, which you can barely chew as it is so fibrous. Definitely not worth the price. It's a nice view though. That's about it.
David Boshier
The location is fantastic and there is nothing like a walk on the beach after breakfast. It can take a while to get a seat but we have always found the the service friendly and attentive. <br/><br/>Food is expensive for what you get and my chicken salad while fresh, lacked taste and a dressing. The others with us had average but ok meals.<br/><br/>Coffee was good.
Zack
This is a great location, and that's about the only thing good I can report back. We stopped in for a bit of lunch waited over 10 minutes for service after sitting down, then 15-20 for a late and tea to arrive, the staff were very rude to say the least, badly groomed is putting it nicely, the drinks were average, no water offered we decided to call it quits and went up the road and got some sushi. This place needs to have a serious think about what customer service is and learn the meaning of friendly.
Lucy
We came for breakfast. Food was utterly amazing. Definitely returning!!! Eggs bene was soooo good.

I've never felt the desire to write a review on a restaurant until yesterday mornings experience.<br/>It was our 14th wedding anniversary and my wife and I decided to spend the day together. <br/>After dropping the kids of at school we thought it would be great idea to grab some breakfast by the beach. We've never been to the Takapuna Beach Cafe before so we thought we'd check it out. Big mistake!<br/>We walked in ,there were maybe 10-15 people there, found a table by the window, and waited..... 5 or so minutes passed and no-one looked in our direction, I tried to make eye contact a few times, but no -one seemed interested. They weren't overly busy though, so I felt slightly perplexed. I wasn't going let this spoil our day though, so I got up grabbed a couple of menus, and sat back down, and waited, again....Trying to make some eye contact with someone, coffee, eggs, a smile, anything!! Hello, please, we're sitting here, we're hungry, we have money, do you want our money?? <br/>Apparently no. <br/>After sitting for another 5-10 minutes and getting completely ignored, we left. I had a word to a guy on the way out, he was apathetic, but by then we'd decided to try our luck elsewhere.<br/>Can't comment on the food, or the coffee, we didn't get asked if we'd like some. Shame.<br/>Good luck if you go along to try this place, it might be great. But hey, you might have the same service as we did and not go back, ever!!
Spotless Mind
We were looking forward to this lunch. Beautiful day and great location. It was a Thursday lunchtime and the place was near full. I ordered the chicken salad. Chicken was tough, dry and tasteless, beans very crunchy.Best part was teh poached egg and crispy panchetta. My friend ordered the Moroccan Eggs. The lentil tomato mix a bit over done and dry, chorizo was over done too, food was very average, the Service was excellent. This is not the first time I have dined here and been unmoved. Disappointing overall.

The best thing to happen to Takapuna in a decade. But the Council (a bunch of near sited change averse would-be retirees) won't give them a liquor licence. It would make an amazing dinner venue. The lunch meals are beautiful but the icecream is their infamy - to DIE for. Seriously the best icecream I have ever eaten. And the queues at the counter say it loud and clear. Well done guys.

This café sets the standards for other cafes! If you've never been you need to do a brunch session here with family or friends as you wont be disappointed. It's been a while since I've been here but on my last visit I had a great experience. The food service was quick without delay even though the place was packed out with a line of people waiting for seats (it's popular, can you guess?). Reasonably priced and well located right on the beach in Takapuna. What was once a Chinese take away and make shift dairy, is now a elegant café with a nice big deck and funky décor. Be quick if you want to get a decent seat there on a weekend otherwise prepare to queue. If you're just after an Ice Cream you won't be disappointed!

Great place and location. Worth waiting to get a seat. I have been for breakfast a few times and can't fault the food and coffee. Another tick for the Hip Group.

Takapuna Beach cafe is also another buzzing cafe with award winning gelato and great coffee to boot. Situated next to the beach, you get to enjoy the sunrises and the pretty views :) Their iced drinks are perfection for tea and their smoothies are hefty on the price tag but they are well worth your moolah. They also sell the current biggest culinary hype aka the famous cronuts in assorted flavours so get in and choose your pick! Staff are always super friendly and attentive :)
Kate W
Always amazing service, the only cafe that looks out out onto gorgeous Takapuna Beach and a sophisticated menu. Brunch is a joy and actually feels healthy when you have the full english breakfast. Sparkling complimentary water, freshly squeezed juices like apple and mint and ice-cream to die for are just a few of the reasons to come here. You can go for a walk around the coast afterwards to work off the belgian chocolate ice-cream too!
