Review The Blue Breeze Inn - Auckland Central

I really enjoyed the blue breeze inn. The service was amazing and the staff were super friendly. Every dish was delicious, and the drinks were also quite good. Highly recommend a visit to the blue breeze inn if you’re looking for good food or even just a drink.

We dined here twice while we were on holiday in Auckland from Australia. The service was 10/10 and the food was so bloody good. Not only was it fast but it was so tasty. I loved the open kitchen so you could see the chefs working. The decor of the establishment was also nice. Everything was delicious, I wish we had gone a third time to taste everything on the menu. The take away hokey pokey was also good. I highly recommend this place.

We love this place - great cocktails, nice vibe, friendly staff and delicious food. Started with a negroni and glass of red. Had the fried chicken, rice, bok choy. There's a lot to enjoy and savour when you come here! Definitely recommend it as somewhere worth getting to.

Resto decor was lovely..food was yum specially the bangbang Chilli chicken. Only downside were the utensils "it's huge"!

Highly recommend booking however we did not wait long. We were seated at the bar, where we were we entertained watching beautiful cocktails being made. As we were seated the large table next to had there food delivered. It all looked delicious and well presented, making it hard to decide what to have. We settled on the warm pork salad and the pork belly. Both dishes were incredibly tasty. Can recommend both of them. The service was spot on considering how busy they were. You could see the staff were really trying to stay on top of everything and they did a great job. Will definitely go back.

Food was great, but above all, the service and atmosphere was amazing. A very feel-good restaurant. Awesome to bring friends or family. I'd go there again just for the vibe.

Island vibes with upmarket cuisine 🌴Beautiful bao - a little on the sweet side with the sauces for my taste but the tofu treatment was next level. Top quality ingredients and classy-kitsch cocktails, if there is such a thing! It's a little cramped but the service is excellent, the decor is fun. Great for a bite to start the night.

It's no wonder this place is busy! What an incredible place, we went here for a work event and the staff were very helpful, friendly and enthusiastic. The venue is beautiful, it feels like you are no longer in NZ the moment you walk though the doors. We had the waiter bring out various entrees and just keep them coming so we got to try a bit of everything. Would recommend this, but book as if can be busy!

The food at this place was absolutely delish! It was quite expensive though…. but lovely service and full of flavour. One of the best dumpling places i’ve been too!!

Booked to go here for my mum's 70th. Incredible atmosphere, divine food and yummy cocktails! The lights and decor were really fun and the whole team came out to sing happy birthday 🎂 Was a really special evening!

My friends and I went to the Blue Breeze in on a Saturday night with no booking and they accommodated us within 15 min. The food was amazing and mushroom wonton are to die for 😍. The staff was super friendly and nice.

Been here a couple of times. Both visits disappointing. All of the dishes we ordered were underwhelming and not authentic. The fried spicy chicken dumplings were the worst, they did not resemble a dumpling in any way, and were sweet tasting! The wok fried greens were recommended by staff and we received a bowl of average tasting bok choy. White wine was not served cold. On the plus side, we enjoyed the atmosphere.

Great food and drinks.

My friend and I decided to go here for dessert after our initial plans were closed. Gotta say this place did not let us down with their dessert menu! The flavours were rich and tasty and the serving sizes were just right!

Came here spontaneously with a friend for dinner on Monday night. Staff were friendly and help and we were taken promptly to our table. The service the rest of the night was great - not too clingy but just enough TLC.<br/><br/>We ordered the bang bang chicken, stir fried beef brisket, a bowl of rice, and 2 alcoholic drinks. It came to $75. I was actually most impressed with the rice, it was a much larger portion than I expected and the consistency was perfect - not too hard or mushy, the grains clumped together, and it was fragrant.<br/>The chicken was cold and refreshing with a touch of chilli and coriander, topped with crunchy peanuts. Chicken was a bit tough though. The beef was seasoned well and had a hint of five spice, but was too sweet for my liking, hence it didn't resemble Asian cuisine. The brisket was also a bit tough like the chicken.<br/>Both chicken and beef could have been spicier.

Food and drinks is really nice! Definitely a pricy place, expect to spend at least $100 for two people, small portions and quite expensive but worth the experience! Definitely a place to share plate and recommend trying a range of things

It’s just irritating that the few times I’ve been there it’s been over crowded and squished. People knocking constantly as they walk past, in their effort to fit as many tables as possible they’ve made the space uncomfortable for staff and customers. Service is sub par. Waitress looked pissed off from the minute she filled our glasses with water (altho mine was a half glass as she ran out and didn’t come back but whatever) to the moment she started cleaning our table while we were still sat there talking and drinking. Super awkward, uncomfortable and very obvious they wanted us gone. Food is fine. Expensive. Would rather go to mekong baby or white and wongs, better space, service and quality for money.

Chinese Fusion with a Hawaiin atmosphere with Brazilian dancers thrown in at New Year. I dont know what planet this is but Im moving here. Order the duck dumplings with a strong drink :-)
Lucy
Used to be my favorite spot for an Asian fusion before they removed the Peking duck and spicy clams.<br/><br/>The restaurant still holds an excellent ambience, with the friendly waiters dressed in a tropical shirt. Making you feel like you on a Pacific island. Slightly noisy for a conversational dining.<br/><br/>Only ordered a few small dishes. The tiger prawn dumpling is still very delicious and tender. The mushroom wonton was nicely spiced. The kimchi was flavourful.<br/><br/>A must experiment one of a kind restaurant.<br/><br/>Food: 8/10<br/>Food presentation: 8/10<br/>Service: 9/10<br/>Ambience: 10/10<br/>Value for money: 7/10<br/><br/>Price $45 per person (excl alcohol)

Every plate that came up was super salty - too much salt and too much soy sauce in all dishes. The waitress also said rice was $2 but went to pay and it was $3. Incorrect info was provided. The lamb dish was not even lamb, just covered in flour - didn’t even taste the lamb. Totally not worth the trip.

I had a catch up with my friends. The place was nice with friendly staffs.<br/>I heard this place gets really busy so we only can stay for 2 hours.<br/><br/>Summary:<br/>Food Taste: 3 stars (average taste for the price)<br/>Food Presentation: 3 stars<br/>Price: 3 stars<br/>Service: 4 stars<br/>Ambience: 3 stars<br/>Overall experience: 2 stars (felt uncomfortable)<br/><br/>Ordered Market fish dish(so much oil), iced coffee and rice. Taste was average for the price but considering the location, ambience and service, I was happy to pay $47 but just one thing.....<br/><br/>After the meal, a waitress took our empty plates, then another one came to our table with menu asking if we want anything else more, soon after that another one came with a dishcloth and wiping our table while we were there having a chat?!?!?! We stopped talking while she was cleaning. Felt awkward!<br/><br/>So I thought we stayed more than 2 hours or at least close to 2 hours coz wiping table while customers are there is a gesture that restaurant wants you to leave so i checked the time it was about like 30mins to 2 hours!!!<br/><br/>You can take the plates but we don't want you to wipe the table while we are there. It made us uncomfortable!!! it was like kicking us out!!! and we actually left right after that.<br/><br/>Well, it's Ponsonby, there are plenty of options with that price. I would rather go somewhere doesn't kick me out. You can't say you don't mean THAT way coz that's pretty obvious gesture to everyone even if you don't mean that way.
Lydia In Wonderland
Very busy restaurant in ponsonby, the atmosphere the deco and drinks are all good, but the food is not so satisfying, either too salty or bland. Anyway, a good place to have a drink with friends but dont expect a good treat.

First time visiting this place after my friends hyped it up. The outdoor area is really nice, especially on a hot sunny day whilst having a beer. Not somewhere I would come alone to eat one dish but better yet, with a bunch of friends to order a few things and share. The food was delicious and the service was super friendly.
Adhisha
Food and location were both great

We ordered the pork bun, eggplant bun, bang bang chicken and brief brisket. We enjoyed the pork bun but not the rest. Had a big chunk of fat in our beef brisket which we did not enjoy. Menu states it came with lucky money dumplings but it was just flour. Was expecting better as the reviews were great but disappointed with the flavour and quality.

The best bao in town! The roasted pork belly - it’s a must try! I’ve tried a lot of bao and I promise you, this is the best in all the land!<br/>I’m not a fan of paying much for dumplings - I think these western type restaurants are super spenny!!! BUT their dumplings are pretty epic... so get them with your dinner, lumped into the total bill, you won’t notice and you won’t regret.<br/>I’m also not a dessert fan - BUT, tried all 3 of their desserts and they were bloody delicious.<br/>The blue breeze is a can’t go wrong sort of restaurant... I love the kitch interior too

The food is amazing! 5/5 for the food!! Love the pork buns!! The service needs some improvement as last few times have been greatly let down

Popped into Blue Breeze Inn for lunch with the fam this weekend as we have been here once when I was younger and thought it was decent so we wanted to give it another go. I got the 'TROPICAL FRUIT PUNCH DU JOUR' to drink which is sort of like a juice/mocktail, it was alright and looked pretty but I think the consistency was too thick and it felt like you were drinking a puree. I also kept getting little stringy bits in my mouth and it felt like hairs which wasn't pleasant. My brother had the famous 'pork belly steamed bun' which he liked and my parents had the 'CHINESE-STYLE BARBECUE PORK' and they really enjoyed it and I actually had some of the sauce from it with rice and it was so good. We also ordered 2 lots of the 'fried spicy chicken dumpling' which was so weird because the 'dumpling' part was so sweet and sugary and then the chicken was spicy so it was a weird combo and in my opinion it didn't work. We got the 'work charred broccoli' which was overpowered by the oyster sauce and it wasn't for me and we had the 'wok fried market greens' which were better but so so spicy so none of the veggies won for me. We then had to wait ages & ages for the 'peking duck' which was good but we just didn't feel like having it as we had to wait for so long. For dessert we ordered the 'SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM w/ candied walnuts, white chocolate, ginger whisky syrup, honeycomb & caramelised popcorn ' which looked so good but tasted like absolutely nothing which was disappointing. We also had the 'CHOC POT w/ rhubarb, coffee syrup, chocolate and more chocolate' which was yum as quite sweet but still good, I would suggest them to add vanilla ice cream on the side instead of cream to help contrast the sweetness. The atmosphere and service is lovely but there was nothing special about the food. I wouldn't mind going back but I wouldn't choose to as it just wasn't for me.

Food is good but this place was so so unwelcoming for us as a big group, it was my birthday and they made it feel so underwhelmed. They didn’t let any of us drink as there was an underage person at our table and the waiter made her feel very awkward saying the only way we could be served drinks was if she left, ( I understand their is law around this but the way they did it was horrible and awkward ) they also didn’t do anything special like most restaurants do knowing it was my birthday. The staff were not smiley at all and the environment was not somewhere I would go back too. Never felt so unwelcome was very upsetting for a special birthday dinner. not somewhere I recommenced for a big group or a birthday

Blue Breeze Inn is a great modern take on Chinese cuisine with great tapas and main meal options designed to be shared with friends, family or to be enjoyed on your own. Feature is their almond brocolini, steamed pork bun, lamb dumplings with the bang bang chicken. Great service and tentative staff. Highly recommend.

This is an excellent establishment with rich food and flavours. I would recommend the eggplant bao, king prawns and fish dishes. I have noticed portion sizes are decreasing. I would avoid the kingfish sashimi - go for the one at Azabu instead.

Stunning restaurant with a tiki theme. Really nice ambience inside as well as a bar to watch the chefs at. Fried chicken dumplings were alright. Stir fry lamb was quiet nice but i should have gone for something more rich. The bang bang chicken alone gives this place a 5 on food. Completely blew me away

Really enjoyed my meal here!! The food was spectacular and I really liked the atmosphere they got going on. We were a group of four so just ordered a few things to share. I loved the dumpling type things we got (pic attached), but my least favourite of the things we got was the crispy chicken (dumpling?) type thing. Wasn’t sure what it was and was still unsure after eating it. Also got some meat and the noodles.
Gourmet Vegetarians
I was really excited to visit the Blue Breeze Inn after hearing raving reviews however this place is definitely tailored to meat-eaters. The vegetarian options on the menu were sparse and unexciting. Even the eggplant bao, I found to be both dry and a mismatched combination of flavours. The decor was as cool as ever, with the waiters in floral shirts and a groovy playlist humming in the background, but quite frankly a pricy restaurant based in hip Ponsonby of all places should really be upping its vegetarian game.
Ang Sarap
Perhaps this is one of the best, if not the best Asian fusion restaurant in Auckland, great set of menu which consists of mouth-watering dishes mostly fused with the Chinese cuisine. We were here a couple of months ago and had a great time, I got to pass by this place many times in the past when we dine in at Ponsonby Central but never bothered to pay it a visit until a colleague of mine recommended them. I am really glad on that recommendation as this place really rocks! I love the menu, I love the dishes and the flavours were amazing.

A unique bar/restaurant for a get together.<br/><br/>Service: 5/10<br/>I made a reservation on Mother’s Day so we didn’t have to wait for a seat. Our table was super tiny and could barely fit the three of us. I saw tables of 2 people sitting at tables suitable for 4, so I was a little confused.<br/>The waitress struggled to understand me when I was trying to order even though I don’t have an accent.<br/>The main dishes took a decent amount of time to be served taking into consideration that it’s all fresh.<br/>The dessert took about 40 minutes to come after we told the waiter it could be served. It says you have to wait 20 minutes on the menu but I didn’t expect it to take this long.<br/><br/><br/>Food: 7/10<br/>I ordered the kingfish sashimi, fried spicy chicken dumplings, 2 steamed bun with roasted pork belly, 1 steamed bun with five spice dumpling, steamed black tiger prawn dumplings, hot and numbing wild boar and the choc pot.<br/>The kingfish sashimi was fresh and had a nice citrusy flavour, but was badly cut, and easily fell apart.<br/>The fried spicy chicken dumpling was the highlight. The shell was crunchy on the outside and glutinous on the inside. The chicken was tender and the flavour packed a punch.<br/>The pork belly buns are the best I’ve had in Auckland so far. The pork belly had a nice crackling with a great ratio of tender meat to juicy fat.<br/>The eggplant bun was spicier than I expected. The eggplant wasn’t as soft as I’d like it but the flavour was very strong. Both of the baos were soft and fluffy.<br/>The steamed dumpling of black tiger prawn and sesame was pretty average. There is a fat piece of shrimp inside but I still don’t think it’s worth the price. I would rather go to yum cha for this.<br/>The hot and numbing ground wild boar was great when mixed with rice. The soy custard resembled tofu but creamier which created a harmonious flavour with the meat.<br/>The choc pot had a crispy top with a melted gooey chocolate centre with a tart jam in the middle.<br/>The food is quite expensive compared to other fusion restaurants I’ve been to.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 6/10<br/>The theme is a fusion of pacifican and chinese culture which is slightly weird.<br/>The pacifican aspect is shown through the tikis, the vibrant colours of the seats and traditional wooden structures, and flooring throughout the restaurant.<br/>The chinese aspect is shown through the traditional lanterns hanging from the ceiling which can be easily spotted from outside.<br/>The restaurant is dimly lit with candles and small yellow lightbulbs which creates a relaxing environment.<br/>It can get super loud inside the restaurant with the combination of the customers talking and the music which makes this place is not suitable for formal events.<br/>Due to our tiny table, we felt super cramped and uncomfortable throughout our meal. We could barely fit two plates of food at a time on my table so we felt super rushed to finish before the next dish was served just so there would be room.<br/><br/>I don’t think I’d come back here unless it was solely for the food.

Yummy yummy! Delicious food for veggies. A little bit expensive and noisy, but we had a good time, definitely coming back. Don’t order drinks, they are not worth it...

I like the ambience cozy, warm and sophisticated. Online booking is fast and easy. Food is delicious my family loves it. Its my second time to come here for special occasion.

I couldn’t recommend this place enough. My partner and I come here regularly because every time we get epic service, great food and really short wait times. You have to book if you want to secure a spot at this busy place but it’s truly awesome. Everything tastes great, my favourite is the eggplant bun, and I also really enjoy the mushroom dumplings. Will never stop coming here 🥰
Saasha
Some of the best cocktails I have ever had! Will definitely be back! Really nice to go on a summers day to sit outside and have a nice meal and a drink!
Anna Botica
Had a amazing time here the food was amazing and a good range of drinks to choose from but the only down side was it was bit busy and the the seating felt a bit congested but overall had a good time

Fabulous. The vibe, staff and food. Recommend. I love their uniforms - it is like stepping into a little tropical oasis for a few hours. I recommend this place - it’s great.

Was looking forward to having a nice fusion meal. Our waiter could not speak English very well and offered a starter platter for the table at $55. As a group of 3 we thought, that would be a great way to start, with a few cocktails. It turned out to be $55 per person. So we were sent out all these dishes we wouldn't have even ordered. Food was OK but $10 bao's..Are you serious?<br/>The restaurant is so ridiculously set up that there is no space to move and just to walk by the bar and between tables to the toilet you have sidestep the entire length of the restaurant. Whoever designed that space should be embarrassed. And get new bar stools so the splayed legs at the base don't add to your space issues- duh
Chelsea
Excellent service. Had a table at the chefs table, was very entertaining watching the chefs work away. The drinks list is very good. The food was amazing! Would love to return one day!

Awesome lunch/dinner spot in Ponsonby, the vibe here is always upbeat so it's a guaranteed good time. My favourite dishes are the pork belly bao, the prawn dumplings and the market greens. The mouth numbing beef dish is quite different and flavoured well.<br/>Service can be hit or miss, but food always comes out quickly. Menu items are on the small side so best to come in a group so you can try more of the menu.

I came here with Filipino work colleagues for our Christmas dinner.<br/><br/>Always a popular joint in Ponsonby, I must say Blue Breeze Inn did not disappoint our tastebuds!<br/>Of the many dishes on our table, the egg noodles stood out. It had the right spice and other flavours in it. Beef shin was also not bad with its tender meat and generous helping of sauce.<br/><br/>Perhaps the only negative experience of the night was with the waiter constantly checking on us to see if everthing was okay, particularly during the last 30 minutes of our reservation period (a friend of mine said this was the waiters' way of saying "hurry up and leave"). Fair enough, though, coz it was a busy time of the year at a busy restaurant.
Foodie_1110
Such a vibing place! It was really busy when i went, but the staff were all friendly and had a cool theme of clothing going on. Had a mixture of pretty much all the starters on the menu and it was really good! Would recommend if you’re going out with friends!

Have heard so many great things about this place, and with so many Asian fusion restaurants around, my expectation were high ;) Came for my friend’s bachelorette party. We opted for the set menu. It was a bit pricey, but they served massive amounts of food, and you could try a bit of everything. Every single dish we tasted were divine: from the entree pickles, to the dumplings, to the vegetables and mains. My favourite of the day was the braised beef cheeks, the beef was tender, and the sauce was super flavour and delicious with rice.<br/><br/>Definitely on the list of top Asian restaurants that I have been to, and I could not wait to visit again with my husband :)

I was in the hunt for a restaurant for my partner’s birthday and 2 things were in my mind; a place in Ponsonby (because he was looking forward for a walk on Ponsonby streets 😂) and better cocktails. Didn’t have second thoughts when BBI appeared as 1 of the 50 best restaurants in Auckland. The staff in Hawaiian shirts was so friendly and welcoming and had reserved the perfect spot to dine in with a view of the street lights through rainy windows. ❤️ It was a busy atmosphere but we were amazed when the food arrived few minutes after we ordered. The stir-fried cumin lamb was so good and went well with the Samoan Sunblock (photo in the review) and the Mai Tai a la BBI cocktails. Then we had another round of cocktails. Swan dive as suggested was a hit in the brain with 6 types of liquor and came in a signature tiki mug. Sipping away Doctor Polynesia Vice in the warm and cozy BBI is a moment I want to go back to. Stir-fried prawns with sticky pork was a moment of bliss in the mouth with the the right balance of chili and lime. It was a night to remember and we were so happy with everything about BBI.

This is an awesome place, warm and kind staffs run the place, they actually remember you and your preferences. Brittany, you are the best!! Your smile always makes us comfortable, food has an excellent flavors we keep on coming back for more.<br/>John and Rose

Really enjoy the trendy vibe going on at this place but it is loud and busy so be warned - a great place to go with a group of friends!  In terms of food, it was very nice - however, in some of the dishes I do think the flavours were a bit overpowering.
SL
I have been here a few of times now and love the food. <br/>The tiger prawn dumplings are beautiful and pork belly bao is a must. <br/>I did love the lamb wontons when I first tried them however last night they were a bit chewy.<br/>The market fish and broccolini are delicious - fish melts in your mouth and the sesame oil and almond flavour in the broccolini dish make it really enjoyable. <br/>We tried scallop and pork shumai which was nice but our group had commented on it being a bit oily. <br/>I did like the chilli chicken but my first thought was that it tasted like sweet Thai chilli tuna in a can (which I love, just not for the price paid)<br/><br/>I hate the seating space, it’s too cramped - especially by the bar when you enter and exit, there are always people giving you looks for unintentionally touching them while trying to pay for your food and leave.<br/>The music was quite loud so you are constantly yelling over the table or in my case, nodding and going along with the convo even though you can’t hear.<br/><br/>I also think their food is over priced but that’s what to expect in Ponsonby I suppose. I do look forward to coming here on the odd occasion but it is easy to spend $80+ pp. <br/><br/>Service has always been fine but last night before we had even set foot into BBI, a friend was smoking on the pavement out front (not in the way of the entrance stairs, almost on the corner of a street) and a staff member advised him of the new smoking law then asked our whole group if we could “move further down the road or even ‘around’ the corner of the street”. We moved further down and out of the way but that waiter got the shock of his life when he saw us walk in the door for dinner, he even gave us a rude look as if we didn’t belong there🙄

My partner and I had a wonderful evening at The Blue Breeze Inn. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. We will definitely be back!

Gotta love the amazing service and let’s not forget those to die for Bao Buns!! Arghhhh! Love everything about this place especially the staff. Parking is a headache but worth it xx

Is there nothing more Auckland'esque now than sitting on the front balcony of BBI with a cold Kirin, shumai and pork bun. I never tire of eating here - thanks again for a super lunch.

Went to the Blue Breeze Inn earlier this year in April for the first time. Our table of 8 enjoyed our time trying out all the different sharing plates and we appreciated the staff's knowledge and friendly service. For what it is, I can see why the restaurant's popular and I wouldn't mind coming again. But in all honesty – when I think purely about the food – I wasn't blown away.<br/><br/>I’d say that the star dish of the night was the cumin lamb, although I really liked the broccoli and stir-fried noodles too. It’s great that their meat dishes come with a decent amount of veges. We felt the duck was a good portion for 8 (the hoisin sauce was great).<br/><br/>While I appreciated that there was definitely flavour in their dishes, after a few plates I felt some of the sauces used (for example in the Bang bang chicken and Buddha delight tofu) kinda tasted the same. I was also hoping for the prawns to stand out, but they weren’t that memorable and the dish only had 4 prawns for the 8 of us. <br/><br/>We were fortunate to be able to book a booth for a 2 hour slot on Saturday night, but that did mean the restaurant had to be somewhat strict on getting us to vacate before the next group arrived. While we were afforded some privacy, note that it’s a busy restaurant so it's not that easy to have conservations (as the booth is near the speaker).

I just absolutely adore this place - definitely one of my favourite restaurants in Auckland. Everything is delicious and I love the consistency and quality - food and service! My favourite and must order dishes are: lamb wontons, market fish, charred broccoli, but I also like to order something different each visit. The bang bang chilli chicken is absolute delight, beef shin just melt in your mouth, roast duck is cook to perfection, dim sums like suimai and dumplings are outstanding! Can’t wait to go back again.

Without a doubt one of the best places to dine in Auckland Central. Definitely recommend, staff are very accommodating and friendly. Great food, great atmosphere and with great company, definitely the place to take family and friends!!<br/>

This place always brings the goods. The drinks, the food, the service. 10/10 can't stop coming back. Drink everything, eat everything, my review needs to be over 140 characters long I'm killing characters here. It rained today, hope you guys out there are warm, life's good. Time for a hot chocolate.

I went here with some friends on Saturday for lunch. The restaurant itself is cozy and is decorated in the theme of the restaurant.<br/><br/>The service was pretty good. We were sat at a table straight away as we made a booking. Once our orders were taken though we never got asked for more drinks or meal checked.<br/><br/>The food was very tasty! As you can see from the photos I completely forgot to take photos as I was too busy eating! I ordered the tiger prawn dumplings and the mixed market greens. The only comment I have is that the market greens was only one type of vegetable. I thought I would be a couple like beans, courgette or broccoli etc.<br/><br/>Would definitely go back and eat there again! Cant wait to go try the new place that the owners have just opened!

Didn't enjoy the experience.  Meals were very small and very expensive for what you were given. We ordered some small plates, main meal and side dishes. The main meal came first. Then after some time the small plates came plus one side order of greens. When we had finished eating all the food the other order of greens arrived!!  Two of us ordered a ginger beer, I couldn't drink mine as it was so strong it burnt the back of the throat. One positive the stir fried fish as a main meal was very tasty albeit a very small portion. Sorry wouldn't go back there.

Great staff, friendly and welcoming. Manager on duty at the time was top notch. Snipped cocktails at the bar when we watched for our table! <br/><br/>Food good, especially the bao.. dumplings okay. Overall feel of the place is very good 🙌

Great decor and service, excellent cocktails. The food had a lot of sodium and MSG so I was dehydrated for the rest of the night. Also just a personal preference but I prefer authentic Chinese dishes.

I found that I absolutely loved this place! Good was really good - catered to my dairy free palate easily (there was even dessert!! complete luxury when you're dairy free - just FYI). Cocktails were interesting and lovely, food was beautiful. Bao buns are 100% recommended!! Only comment I will add is that there weren't many warm vegetarian options which my friend found out when she couldn't convert a non vegetarian dish into a vegetarian dish for her. Other than that, dessert was amazing, great combination of different flavours and textures ♥️ Finally, service was absolutely fantastic. Cannot even express in words by how blown away we were by the waitress. Thank you for an awesome evening out.

One of my favourite restaurants in Auckland! The fried chicken dumplings are super yummy and also the roast duck! A must do with a group of friends! Such chilled fun vibes also!
Hangrygirl
Great vibe but the tables are so close together you can’t even have an intimate conversation with the person you came with because the people next to you can hear everything you’re saying. Really friendly staff and super quick service. Pricey but what do you expect in Ponsonby.
Riddhi
Went for lunch on a Saturday around 1pm. The wait time was around 40 minutes to just get a seat and the place was packed. The rush only died around 2.30 ish where food was coming out really quickly and people were seated straight away. <br/><br/>Between 2 of us, we ordered the scallops and pork dumplings, tiger prawn and sesame dumplings, 2x pork belly buns, wild boar main as well as the choc pot. We also got 2 cocktails. This came to $111. <br/><br/>The food was really good! Loved the dumplings, however they did forget the tiger prawn and sesame dumplings so can’t comment on this. The pork belly buns were very flavoursome but I found them a tad dry, definitely prefer white and wongs buns. The wild boar was also very good, I wasn’t a fan of the custard part underneath the meat but my friend loved it so just down to preference. <br/><br/>The choc pot was a good way to end the meal but definitely would not be able to eat it by myself. Extremely rich but super satisfying, we only ate a few bites and we were done. <br/><br/>Service wise we spent around 2 1/2 hours all together, mostly due to the wait time between dishes coming out. We weren’t in a rush so it was fine, but definitely go at off peak times if you’re intending for a quick meal. other than forgetting a dish the staff were friendly and accommodating. <br/><br/>
ASHEATS
Came here on Saturday night to see what all the hype was about and for our anniversary. We ordered steamed scallop and pork shumai, steamed dumpling of black tiger prawn and sesame, fried spicy chicken dumpling, pork belly steamed bun and stir-fried egg noodles with pork belly and xo sauce. We thought the food was average, the prawn dumpling just tasted like a normal yum cha dumpling and spicy chicken wasn’t even spicy. The worst of all would of been the egg noodles. They were very salty and only had couple of thin slices of pork belly (waiter talked it up a bit too much, slight disappointment). The cocktails were nice, and service was good. Hopefully the next time we come here it will be better!

Finally tried this place AND it lived up to expectations! I am so impressed with the quality and efficiency of food pumping out of this place with how busy they always are! It is a loud, boisterous experience but so worth it.<br/><br/>We ordered pork belly steamed buns, scallop won-tons, bang bang chicken with a side of rice, beef shin and some market greens. <br/><br/>Everything was delicious however the standout was definitely the beef shin, I can't wait to go back and even though I want to try everything on the menu I will be ordering this again. The bang bang chicken was also amazing and I would recommend ordering this with a side of rice.

Yum yum yum !!!<br/>Hubby & I came out for lunch. We both throughly enjoyed each item we ordered.<br/>We arrived about 12:30, wasn’t too packed and was able to be seated immediately.<br/><br/>We ordered:<br/>- pork belly & pickled cucumber steamed buns - these were great !!!<br/><br/>- tiger prawn dumplings - delicious, well filled and so tasty.<br/><br/>- fried spicy chicken dumplings - extremely tasty yummy and not too spicy <br/><br/>&<br/>Stir fried noodles with XO sauce & pork belly. - delicious.<br/><br/>Wonderful surrounding and if your sitting with your back to the road you can totally feel like your not in the busy city of Auckland but sitting somewhere exotic.<br/><br/>Staff were great & efficient. I like how they take your name for your bill so when you go to pay they actually talk to you using your name in conversation and you don’t feel rushed out of the restaurant. <br/><br/>Thank you Blue Breeze Inn for a delicious experience. <br/>❤️

3 people are here. The menu is really comprehensive. The service is first class. Despite the restaurant being very busy. Service levels were still excellent. The food is well presented and very tasty. Prices are very competitive, and the menu caters for vegetarians. Alcohol prices are competitive and do vary depending on what you have. Pricing is in line with most Auckland restaurants. What is important to understand about eating at this restaurant is that the timing of the food delivery to your table will vary by up to 20 minutes per meal. Each of our mains arrived at different times. One main took 20 minutes after the other meals had been served. This is likely their norm. The waiter made excuses for this, but we suspect that this is normal for this restaurant. As long as you are aware of this, you’ll enjoy eating here. If you don’t want this, such as a business / client dinner... you probably want to look for other options. Personally I found this annoying. And for that reason I probably won’t choose to eat here again.

If you have a strong sense of personal space, this is not for you. The punters are pretty well crammed in but does help the overall feel of being in a chaotic but Glamourous Asian setting albeit on Ponsonby Road.<br/>Great range of drinks and cocktails, food was well ahead of its time when it first graced the strip and so it remains.<br/>Not a cheap option but well worth the flavors you will enjoy

Omg their prawn dumplings!!!! One of the best dumplings I had!! I'm drooling thinking about those dumplings again. Yum! The pork buns are also good and very filling! Chilli chicken was quite good and the beef dish was ok. Very good ambience.

One of the worst meals I’ve had in Ponsonby. Cocktails were made very poorly. The grilled prawns were lukewarm at best and the Buddha’s delight tasted like it had been taken out of the freezer.

Came here for lunch on a Thursday with a group of 8. One of the waiters seated us at a beautiful area near the back of the restaurant. It perfectly seated 8, furnished with blue upholstery and slightly concealed from the rest of the restaurant. <br/>We ordered most of the main dishes and one of the starters. The waiter suggested a $55pp set menu (which was available for a group of 8 or more) but we stuck with ordering individual dishes. <br/>Most of the dishes were a bit bigger than normal European portions but were nothing compared to traditional Chinese portions. It will be a good idea to come here with a lot of people so you get to try more without a huge bill to split at the end. <br/>Overall a good experience here.

Came here for a New Years Eve Dinner. Lovely meal. Couldnt miss out on the Pork Bao either! It was so good i ordered another to compliment my meal!<br/><br/>Service was fast and efficient and what made my night was the drag queen entertainment! Loved it!

You would have gotten a 5 however our waitresses bra was visible every time she served us and she was constantly fixing her shirt, she also forgot our drink orders. Other than that the meal was fantastic and your pork buns are to die for!

service was good, can't say the same about the food, we have been before and it wasn't as bad as this time round, everything tasted different, unbalanced, cucumber was so sour it tasted like pickled in pure vinegar, beef sweet and sour was just unpleasant, weird and bitter we left 3/4 of of everything, and still paid $98 leaving hungry, sorry we would have to reconsider before coming back again

Never disappointed every time I come. This time we had super fresh prawn dumplings and the tongue numbing beef. All awesome and exactly what it says it is. I totally love casual unassuming places that serve excellent food like Blue Breeze!

Absolutely delicious! Came here with a big group and ordered dishes to share. They were all to die for!! From the bang bang chilli chicken to the broccoli, roasted duck to the pork belly steamed buns, the food was exceptional. Some cons would include that the music was too loud, meaning it was hard to have a conversation over the food. Also, customer service wasn't amazing and some things are a little pricey. But overall, the food was beyond scrumptious and most of the dishes justify the price. Highly recommend. Especially the pork belly buns.

Been here twice now. Well run, beautiful food and quick service. First time my sister was mildly sick after eating their "bang bang chicken" and second time I was extremely sick after what I believe was the pork bun. As good as it was, I was sick to the point of hospitalization the following day with food poisining. Never ever going back here again.

This place rocks, turned up with no reservation, on a busy Saturday night, and they still found us a table, after a few cocktails at the bar, Great service and the food and cocktails are an experience you should not miss...
Angela
Good service and food was pleasant. One down side is that they asked if whether we wanted sparkling or distilled water when we walked in - without mentioning that it cost $10. Other than that, it was a great experience!

Modern tropical are the two words I'd use to describe this restaurant, and I'm loving the combination. Wooden floors and stools, large caged lampshades and dark tropical printed booth seats add a much needed twist that common modern look circulating restaurants all over town. <br/><br/>Dinning in on a weeknight the restaurant was surprisingly busy. The service was good from start to finish and our dishes were served quickly. The staff were all friendly and easy to spot with their tropical printed shirts.<br/><br/>We ordered both the grilled eggplant and pork belly steam buns. The pork was cooked perfectly and the bun was fresh and super soft. The eggplant was tasty and made for a nice vegetarian option. The market greens weren't just veggies, the black bean, chilli and garlic sauce was delicious and we'd happily eat our greens everyday if this was the case. We thought the Buddha delight salad would be the winner of the night but it was actually our least favourite. Although it was good - fresh with a good punch of flavour, it was missing something..maybe if the Tofu was fried to add some texture and crunch to the dish? We're not sure but the standard of the dishes was very good. <br/><br/>Overall the Blue Breeze in was a hit through our eyes! With such a big menu (drinks too) it's easy to come back for more.. even if it's just for drinks!

I love this place!! It's a nightmare now that I'm low-fodmap (as is any Asian restaurant) but the food is interesting, delicious and good value for money. <br/>The atmosphere is like a Hawaiian island bar with lights and greenery and serving cocktails in tiki glasses makes it even better. <br/>Great place to dine with friends as meals are designed to be shared. <br/>Service is pretty good but the dessert is to die for!

I like coming here when I get the chance but be prepared for a wait or a bit of a rush to eat (turning around tables) if you haven't booked or even if you have, due to its popularity. <br/><br/>Service is of a good standard, ambience is nice, "cosy" though but again you have to do what you need to. We had all of the wontons, steamed dumplings and the pork belly steamed buns. Everything came out fast, hot and very delicious. I do like this place and so do many many many other people.

Fabulous lunch Monday 11/09/17. Great food and service and reasonably priced. Best in Auckland. Highly recommended!!! You must go there. It says a lot about a restaurant that it is virtually full for lunch on a Monday.

Blue breeze is fantastic! I love the atmosphere - fun loud and exciting. The food is so delicious, the drinks menu is creative and I've never been disappointed! My favourite dish is the hot and numbing ground wild boar.<br/>10/10 recommend.

Came here with a big group and thoroughly enjoyed it. Neat restaurant, relaxed and laid back but quick service and beautiful food. I'd go back for the whole duck and Pork Belly Buns. Wontons are soft not crunchy. Very good drinks menu. THe Rum and ginger is a cool cocktail to try

My favourite restaurant in all of Auckland. The Buddhas delight is the best vegetarian dish I think I have ever had. Always incredible service, cannot say enough how amazing this place is.

We came here as a big group so had the round table at the very end which was perfect. Great place to come with a large group as we tried nearly everything on the "Sunday Samoan dumpling menu"<br/>BBQ Pork bun<br/>Bang Bang chicken <br/>Chinese BBQ pork<br/>Scallop pork shumai<br/>Mushrooms wonton<br/>Pork prawn shumai<br/>Prawn sesame hargau<br/>Truffle dumpling<br/>Fried chicken dumpling <br/>Stir fried market fish<br/>Wagu beef<br/><br/>Basically everything was really nice/tasty. Dumplings were great ... the only item we didn't enjoy that much was the BBQ pork- bit chewy. Great cocktails.<br/>Will be back to try the other menu.

The staff here really make this place wonderful, very knowledgeable and you can tell they really love working here. Pork buns always a winner and the coconut cocktail is so yummy. They have a beautiful table at the back for larger groups too.

Amazing service! Great atmosphere! Loved the staff having a yarn, they really knew the menu in and out! Definitely recommend going here as a treat! Was totally worth the money! A bunch of different food! Loved it! The only comment I would have is the size of the tables, there were three of us all sharing and the table wasn't big enough for our dinner plates and the sharing plates. But that kind of added to the Asian vibe I think.
Johnny
Great place and great food. Service is great and staff very friendly. Only problem is when it's busy, they pack you in like sardines. Small problem for a very popular place
Chico
Their dishes are very tasty and delicious 😋 <br/>The Stream Bun with Roasted Pork Belly is the one I always order.<br/>Cool atmosphere to enjoy meals.<br/>It is my favourite restaurant but I wouldn't go when we are 3 people because they squeezed to a 2 people table which was not big enough to place dishes. Also they rushed us to empty dishes to make space for new dishes.
Jaffa
Great cocktails and for large groups as sharing plates will make the most of the menu here.<br/><br/>Great fit out and ambience and our servers were attentive and friendly!<br/><br/>We went for the set menu for $45 per person where they order for you as there was 8 of us! Highlights were the pork buns, mushroom wontons and pork Belly salad! (The tofu in the vege salad was not good even for a vegetarian-so heads up).<br/><br/>Ideal for a night out for drinks ad the cocktails are interesting and fun!

Looking for my favourite restaurant in Auckland? Well here it is... The Blue Breeze Inn. There are no words I can write that will explain to you why this is a must. Instead you just have to believe me and go. <br/>The service begins at the door with a coat and umbrella check, by a lovely chap wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Don't let the shirt put you off though, this place is always busy for a reason. Tables are available on the decking, inside or at the front of the action in front of the chefs. Menus are straight forward and you can not go wrong with a single dish. Favourites include the must have Pork Bun, Bang Bang Chilli Chicken, Chinese Style BBQ Pork and the Wagyu Beef. Wash it all down with any of the winner cocktails and some chat with good friends. This is the recipe to the perfect dining experience. <br/><br/>Food: 5/5<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Value: 4.5/5 (Little pricey, but the very best food)<br/>

Wow what a cool place and really funkie decor. We got greater promptly and I thought it was a great place to eat as always busy and yes I was right. I had the steamed dumplings. Also the ribs and pork are so delish. Will be back for sure and the service was fantastic and the mess did not take to long as well
Michelle M
Really nice food however the truffle dumplings tasted more of lemon grass which was a shame. Amazing broccoli and the bang bang chicken was really tasty.
Deepinder Bahia
Oh they are best with prawn dumplings. Definitely going back for dumplings and wine 🍷 soon. Amazing hospitality too. Can literally sit and have their dumplings whole day 😀

Came here with four others and left disappointed after hearing very good things. Some of the food is delicious - the pork belly steam buns, wontons and dumplings (all starters) were fantastic. The mains were the let down - hot wagyu beef was not hot at all (quite sweet) and the beef shin left something wanting. Biggest problem food wise was the tiger prawns main which caused everyone to get a tingling/numbing feeling in our mouths due to use of a special type of pepper. Very unpleasant (not to mention slightly alarming when you're not expecting it). As well, service was not great and restaurant was too cramped - waiters kept knocking into the back of my chair to squeeze past. Blue Breeze feels like a restaurant that should be really good but has settled for being busy instead.

Fantastic atmosphere with a modern unique taste! Ordered: pork belly steam buns, bang bang chilli chicken, salmon with raw vegetable salad, hot and numbing wild boar. The pork belly buns lived up to my high expectations! Juicy meat with a delicious Asian sauce. (Must get one each!) The chicken was cold and had a mixture of sweet, chilli, sour taste which was perfect to start the meal. The boar was very special- the soy curd made the boar not so hot and made it delicious with rice. The salad however was a let down- very bland.

Great place to go if you had a big group like I did. Presentation of the food was beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. We ordered a large range of dishes so we could all try!! Cocktails are a must if you feel like a bit of casual drinking, I recommend the Mai Tai a la BBI!! <br/>Pork belly buns, broccoli, black tiger prawn dumplings.. Amazing. <br/><br/>Would come again.

When stepping into The Blue Breeze Inn, you immediately sense a tropical island atmosphere with plant patterned seat covers, staff wearing tropical shirts, and ceiling fans. The restaurant offers modern Chinese food and creative drinks in a casual setting. Steamed Dumpling of Black Tiger Prawn and Sesame (4) NZ$12

Service and staff were excellent on a busy Saturday night, food not so great. Would expect more at these prices. Also our table could have used a wipe, we were literally sticking to the table 😦

Loved the ambiance, but it may be dark for some. The place is expensive compared to other "same kind" restaurants who serve almost same dishes.  Tiger prawns were not that bad, but not that good too. Market Fish was good, filled with flavors. Chicken starters were cold. It was quiet unusual to have to get the starters which we had tasted in other restaurants, cold. <br/>Overall, the experience was not overwhelming and not bad too. <br/>I doubt if i will go back.
