Review Tanpopo Ramen - Auckland Central

B Fowler
Cute place, indoor dining. Of note it is a small space so you might be sitting closer to your neighbor than usual, but not really a big issue. Staff is friendly and I appreciated the fact that the had chicken and veggie broth options as alternatives to the pork broth. Food was well flavored and had good portion sizes.
Ernest Li
The taste of the Tanpopo ramen was not bad. The tonkotsu ramen broth has a different flavor to us. The quality of the ramen noodles was acceptable. Friendly staff and good service. Cheers! (2023-12)
Paul Oh
Authentic ramen place. We tried the Miso tonkotsu and Shoyu tonkotsu ramen and it satisfied our craving! The broth is so rich and flavorful, the pork meat is juicy and not dry with no extra flavors on it, the noodle is al dente! Enough talk and start slurping!
Rosie
Overall great ramen, decent chain for staple ramen dishes. Great flavour and always nicely satisfied. Find that this particular chain’s bamboo just takes slightly diff but anyway still great broth and all. Best Tanpopo was in highland park but rip.

If you are in Auckland and crave a Ramen this place is a must try. Ticked ✅ all the boxes. Service was good with super friendly staff. They greet every one on the way in and on the way out. Food was tasty and fairly priced. The shop is clean and tidy. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work🙏✌️

THE. BEST. RAMEN. Everything was so good!!! I am still quite newbie in the ramen game but so far this place is the best ramen place I’ve been in Auckland!!! Plus the chef is such a delight, you can see him preparing your ramen for you!!
Andrea Massimo De Angelis
Authentic and really tasty Ramen. I tried the tonkotsu and the soup was very rich and full of flavour. The place is simple and the staff is quite kind and energetic (especially the chef that cheers everyone after they paid the bill). Recommended.

Great food, Had the special with ramen and add $13 for a craft beer and 4 gyoza. The beer went down well. Really like it.

The best ramen I have tasted (outside or Japan) by far! I visited Auckland from Melbourne for the weekend and can easily say it beats anything I’ve tasted in Melbourne. The pork broth is so deep and flavourful and a generous portion too! Staff and chef are extremely friendly. So good I had to go back the following day for another bowl!

good size ,good flavor, very smart with the peanut butter. Love it.

My gf has lived in Japan for 6 months and I've been to Tokyo once. We both live in Australia and this is the best ramen we've had outside of Japan. It's authentic AF. The gyoza tastes homemade, the side of fried rice was nice, peppery and loose. The ramen broth was super balanced. The chef also brought the food to us with pride, it was super cute. Being unsure at the beginning since the store only had 3 staff on and looked kinda dingy, this turned out to be one of the best experiences Auckland has to offer!

Wanted to visit this place for a while Now and finally made it! The place filled up quickly ! And within 10 min since it was opened there were no available seats and people started to queue outside! Get here early ! They have about 14 2-tops that can be arranged in parties of 4-6 and etc. I tried the traditional ramen (T-1). As much as I love ramen and as many I have eaten around the world including Japan ( oh my! ) perhaps this one was not my fav broth. But the NOODLES were outstanding ! The best chewiness you can imagine! They got me on that ! And i will definitely come back again to try another one ! They have so many options !!! They have lunch specials with gyoza but I physically cannot eat that mich so i have not attempted ! The service is very polite and fast ! I have not noticed at first, but there are few spots at the high top. Better find a spot there next time so I can watch how ramen is made and entertain myself ! The price range is vary. I think starting from $15 for ramen but I might be wrong. Place takes cash and card (2.5% sub charge )payments.

It was really good and tasty noodles I went for the traditional one

Absolutely phantastic Ramen, good Service, decent Ambiente...

Eating ramen 2nd day in a row puts the 2nd place in a bad position. It has to compete with someone, who already satisfied the craving for Tonkotsu Ramen from yesterday. But, boy, Tanpopo did a great job! The Tonkotsu Chashu was so creamy, you thought you were rather eating spaghetti carbonara. Service was quick and attentive, the Gyoza had plenty of meat in them as well as the Ramen. Only downside that the egg wasn't cut in half and noodles seem also not to be made by the restaurant (probably no restaurant in AKL does this). But apart from that, a very pleasant experience.

I've been to Japan several times; I would say this is one of the best ramens in Auckland so far. My partner and I ordered tonkotsu shoyu ramen and miso tonkotsu ramen, the ramen broth is so authentic. The taste, the texture and the temperature were great. Service was very quick, and staffs were very friendly. Highly recommended. 👍

Really good extra spicy ramen with large quantity. The service was exceptional too. The entire staff greets you when you go in and again when you leave. Overall very relaxed and pleasant experience.
Jessica
If you even go to this restaurant, make sure you CHECK YOUR BILL BEFORE PAYING!!!!! They charged me 20 dollars for a basic soup ramen without any meat!!!! There is no dish that is 20 dollars in the menu! They are just charging you whatever they want expecting you won’t notice it!!!! Won’t go there again!!!!
Lucy
Love this place, think this is my favourite place in terms of broth, so creamy and rich! Best value too and fantastic service too, would recommend to all!
Paul O
I don't know if my expectations were too high but I was left unimpressed by my visit. I agree with some other reviews that the miso broth was a let down, too thin to carry much flavour. I know you shouldn't judge a ramen restaurant on it's gyoza but of you sell them, they should at least be edible: these were burned on the bottom (beyond cooked) and raw on top.
John Seo
Better than most ramens I've tried in Japan.
Lucy
Authentic traditional ramen booth. Despite the worn interiors, this place makes one of the best ramen places in Auckland.

Reputable for their Tonkotsu ramen. Their broth is made thick, marrowy, full of flavors.

Ordered the Tonkotsu Soy Ramen and the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen. The soy broth is delicious as always, and the miso broth is a little spicy. Their ramen is thin and chewy, absorbing all flavors from the broth.

Decent portioned and quite reasonably priced. The basic ramen is $12, you can top up your ramen at additional costs.

Friendly service and super quick to serve.

Food: 9.5/10
Food presentation: 7/10
Service: 9.5/10
Ambience: 6/10
Value for money: 10/10
Price $12 per person

This place serve some authentic ramen! Very big serving at an affordable price! A must try if you are around glenfield!

Food 8/10
Service 8/10
Ambience 8/10

Tanpopo is always my go to ramen joint in the city. Their ramen noodles are always bouncy and cooked perfectly and the soup broths are so delicious! They never disappoint. Service is always lovely and the wait for food is never long, although during peak hours it may be hard to get a seat due to popularity! It’s also quiet affordable- good for my wallet!
Richard Liu
Ramen noodle perfectly textured. Soup base on point. All at perfect price point.
Hungry Teddy (20% Zomato Gold, Use : HUNG2716)
Not bad, but also not authentic. The broth needs to be thicker and more flavorful. A bit too salty as well. The tanmen was pretty nice though. Service was pretty slow. Water is self served.

Know this place more than 10yrs when I was uni student and now, I'm 2 kids mum. Polite and friendly staff, remain high quality ramen soup, 100% recommend! The best ramen soup ever! We enjoy the ramen so much today, thank you and keep up the great work! 😁
Evayang8885
best ramen in town, very authentic and delicious. staff are always friendly. Food served fast. The price also very reasonable with good portion! highly recommend their tonkotsu shoyu ramen. Would like to try their pan fried dumplings next time as they looked so yummy
Hiro
Hands down, the best ramen joint in town. Humble, soul satisfying ramen, nothing flashy. Reminds me of home
Ang Sarap
Making a good ramen soup takes a lot of time, I know this fact as I tried making it at home and it literally takes hours just to get the broth right specially the Tonkotsu style, there are no shortcuts. I have been let down before by some Japanese restaurants here in Auckland but this time it’s time for redemption because the ones they serve here at Tanpopo was really good if not great.
Alison
Tanpopo is one of the best ramen places in Auckland. Their ramen is delicious and their staff are very friendly. My go-to order is the tonkatsu ramen and it’s worth every cent.
Sophie Wang
We ordered tanpopo charsui ramen which was savoury, creamy, heavy and overall very tasty. We also got yuzu shio ramen which was light pork broth with lots of leek vegetables. We also got 2 miso tonkatsu ramen at different spice levels which was packed with flavour. This is a great place to get your ramen fix.
Elaine Taylor
That's so good. And the staffs are so a passion for the services. Tastes great! We order the basic ramen 12d. Recommended the soy flavour!!! I think it worth the price.
Heidi Ting
One of the staff is very unfriendly. The staff will keep checking you have finished or not which is very uncomfortable. The taste of ramen is very oily and salty. Never go there again.
Brandon Huang
Broth was tasty, very porky, but a little flat. Noodles were a let down - quite hard and not the delicious chewy noodles I’m used to with ramen. I’ve heard Tanpopo is very inconsistent, so maybe I’ll come back and it will be better, but for now it is very mediocre.
Amindha Fernando
Its cold at the moment. Real cold. Best way to warm yourself up again is a bowl of the Spicy Miso Tonkotsu ramen here. A nice rich broth and the noodles are always cooked perfectly. Superb winter warmer.
Cindy Tran
I went to this place for a late lunch with my partner and cousins on a cold day. We weren’t greeted upon arrival and the waiter was very clueless.

We ordered four bowls of ramen, the gyoza, kimchi, extra bamboo shoots and four drinks — our waiter actually repeated our order to us again to double check and everything was correct. After waiting for our food, we only received the ramen, gyoza and two drinks. When we asked for our kimchi, bamboo shoots and missing drinks, the waiter looked puzzled as if we were speaking a foreign language...

Ramen was very mediocre, and after that experience I felt like it affected my mood from wanting to eat my ramen happily. The gyoza filling was also too pasty for my liking, and it needed something chunky in it to make it more enjoyable. Overall, wouldn’t recommend this location. I’d go to the one in Howick, I had a much better experience there!

Finally I got to try this place after how many years of living in the city! I ordered the cheese ramen, and it was surprisingly not too cheesy or overly salty as i had imagined. The broth is nice and thick, with thin noodles. Very big portions sizes! Nice go-to meals for a wet rainy day. Staff were very attentive and friendly.
The Poor Foodie
Food: 3.8/5
service: 3.5/5
Overall: 3.6/5

I forgot which one I ordered (maybe shio chashu ramen) coz when the waiter approached me for order, I panicked and randomly pointed to a bowl of ramen without looking what it was😅 the noodles were ready so quickly like 5mins.
Broth was not too salty and the noodles were thin but well cooked. The pork was a bit bland though. The staff seemed to be a bit overly friendly😅
Misha Gildenberger
I love the way you enter to the place and everyone says hi super friendly, and same when you leave. Food was OK, nothing outstanding, but we really didn’t like the fact that they came to ask us to pay and leave (we’ve been there for an hour) even though there were still people around in other tables.
Angelica Starina
When you walk in you’re greeted in the usual Japanese-restaurant style with a loud welcome☺️The pricing of the ramen and the rest of the dishes are pretty good! The flavours are better than most ramen in the city to me-personally. The serving sizes are really good for the price you buy it at too, the only downfalls would be that it gets busy! Its definitely a great place for a small group of friends (2-6), lunch or a little casual date before drinks because of the limited space. Its not like Tanpopo is small, its just well loved by everyone who loves authentic ramen. 4/5 stars for the customer service, the food and the location.
Lizzie
Have heard this is a great ramen place so was expecting a lot and was sadly a little disappointed! The prices are pretty cheap with my basic tonkotsu ramen being only $12 but the broth was soooo salty!! At first it seemed flavoursome but after a while the saltiness was too much to bear. My friends corn ramen was delicious though and she said mine isn’t usually so salty so maybe just a bad batch of broth? We also got the gyoza but the filling was a little too pasty for me and unlike real meat. The service was great though and the guys that worked there so sweet and Japanese!
Annie Low
Went there twice and I recked on this is the best ramen place in Auckland city!!!! I love their creamy pork soup ramen, “tanpopo chasu ramen” ITS SO FLAVOURFUL! I have also tried their miso soup ramen but still preferred their creamy based soup ramen !!! Will definitely go back again and again and again!! $18 for a big bowl of ramen, definitely worth it! Gyoza was delicious and staffs were very friendly too
Flames And Skewers
Tanpopo has been a good ramen place for almost all the while that I've spent working in that area. Their Miso and Shio ramen are my absolute favorites. The housing staff is very courteous and graceful, and the food is absolutely amazing.

It is a good place if you want to have delicious, filling ramen on a budget (or even otherwise). It is not a fine dining kind of place but if you love good ramen, it won't be long before you fall in love with this place.
Patrick Oei
Great staff they a very friendly. The food is very good and reminds of my trip back to japan. I have been here many times and I highly recommend coming here to eat their ramen
EA.
Ramen was okay (a bit salty for me). My partner ordered the Miso one and he liked it. The place was a bit small and some extra cleaning would also help.
Pukeko
No wonder they have been running a business long time as a popular ramen shop here. Excellent customer service and of course the great ramen. Nori seaweed smell best match with their ramen soup. I will be back to try another flavour of soup soon!
Angelique Cagara
Tanpopo has been one of my favourite ramen restos when I'm itching for some hearty tonkotsu ramen - which is always my go-to. Unfortunately the miso shio ramen was a bit of a letdown the last time I went here as it was watery and bland. However, I've had no issues with the tonkotsu ramen in the past and its always been a satisfying meal. The staff are very welcoming and I'm always greeted by the same waiter who's enthusiastic and attentive. Great service.
Tomo
The best ramen shop in Auckland. Their ramen is the closest to ramen I could have in Japan. Highly recommend Tonkotsu Shoyu or Tonkotsu miso and ask for Kotteri (richer soup) and Futomen (thicker noodle).
Garron White
本当に ありがとう! The ramen is the best I've had in Auckland! The miso ramen is so good for the soul. It really took me back to Japan..And even just hearing the staff speaking in Japanese in the background just made it more authentic. Def will be back!
Ven
I like the ramen, cause the soup is pretty good,But their boiled egg is cold,I have to put it in soup until it warm, and last time I ate it and then my stomach felt uncomfortable,I'm not sure the reason, by the way, service is nice!
Johnson Lo
It has been 2 months, 2 weeks and 6 hours since I have last been due to closure from flooding.
As they just reopened the ingredients are the freshest they have ever been so come asap.

This is my favourite ramen place in Auckland as it has both the authentic ramen taste from japan characterized by a rich strong umami taste.

I ordered a tonkotsu shoyu ramen (made spicy of requested) with extra pork and noodle with gyoza.
Deborah Peacock
Best Ramen in NZ!

Really good Japanese ramen, and has very friendly staff. The broth is rich and isn't too salty, they have an open kitchen so you can see your food being made.

The go-to ramen joint in the CBD!

Put too much expectation before came here, and get a little disappointed with my shio ramen.. it’s look nice when it’s served however the taste is standard and nothing special.. i prefer the one that ordered by Denny Setiawan - i think it’s miso ramen
Omkar Shinde
I’ve never had tried ramen before so my friend suggested this place, I tried vegetarian ramen here it was amazing. Food was tasty 😋 staff was good, ambiance was nice.
Devon McGrath
This is a great Ramen place for NZ. Closer to an authentic Japanese experience than most other places, much richer broths than anywhere else I've been in Auckland. In exchange its a little bit pricier than most ($15-$18 mostly) , but great food and well worth it.
P
If you're craving ramen, go to Tanpopo, you will not be disappointed. Absolutely delicious, tried the pork broth and the miso broth, I can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu.
Boz
Best ramen spot in Auckland. Regularly go here and their house Tanpopo ramen is the one to go for on the menu. Consistently amazing ramen. Service is fast and food comes out quickly.
Jack C
I must have been coming here for over 10 years now. And it’s looks and feels just like day one.

My go to place in Auckland when I crave Ramen.
Their broth is the absolute best in my book.

I simply love Tanpopo Ramen! And you should too.
Marpaung XVII
Came for what my friends told me, "one of the best ramen in town." I can see why.Love their ramen. Good quality and portion for what I paid. The creamy ramen wasn't my style, but interesting to try. Staff were very friendly, and the seating was pretty comfortable.
Vivek
This place is all about Ramen and we loved it. Excellent service on a busy Friday night with attention to each customer. Their basic ramen is best and can be modified with meat of choice. Prices are quite reasonable too. Well done !
Paris Jenkins
Cute little ramen noodle bar tucked away on Anzac Ave. The ramen is authentic and delicious, I ordered the cheap vegetarian miso ramen, which was the best vegetarian ramen I have had in Auckland! with seaweed, bamboo shoots, and lots of spring onion. The broth was rich and satisfying. I also ordered the fried noodles which you can't go wrong with, it was delicious as well. Service was good and extremely quick! Seating can be a bit awkward as the place is quite small, but this adds to the busy, street-vibe atmosphere. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good ramen!
Kat Boz
Tastes like Japanese ramen I had in Japan. Noodles and the broth are delicious, not too salty. Great meal for the value. Staff is friendly and lovely
Kirsten
Some pretty decent ramen here! Miso Tonkotsu Ramen was really nice, loved the broth! It was quite addicting. Great portions and nice staff. Friends ordered the Kimchi ramen and one of the Negi ramen. This environment is quite fast paced, just like a typical Japanese ramen bar. Order, slurp the ramen and leave. Keep it up, Tanpopo!

UPDATE: Been a year since I've visited Tanpopo, and their Miso Tonkotsu Ramen is still delicious! The broth was so addicting that I drank it all. It was a mix of pork and miso broth, the noodles were thin and soft. Slurped every bit if it!
Tabby De Guzman
This resto produces the best authentic ramen in NZ.
Of course the ramen in New Zealand is still incomparable to the ones in Japan but its a very close match with Tanpopo ramen.
I enjoyed their gyoza and tonkotsu miso ramen with tamago and chasu pork. It had the perfect richness and saltiness and the noodles were cooked perfectly.
Very affordable and portions are huge! I struggled finishing the bowl.

The Dish: Tonkotsu (Pork Bone) Chashu Shio Ramen - Tanpopo Style
Good quality ramen with a nice thin but flavourful broth (sometimes a bit too salty). Noodles themselves were standard but cooked El dente on first bite. A tad on the pricey side but a solid first try of Kyushu-style ramen.
Amy Mah
I had the Tonkotsu Shoyu Chashu Ramen, and I can't stress how good the soup was!!! It was extremely dense and full of flavour, and the chashu was really soft. Tanpopo Ramen is pretty generous with their meat, so the price was definitely worth it. I would recommend this place for a quick meet up with friends.
Suzie Lee
Tonkotsu miso ramen!!

This is a hole in the wall eatery dedicated solely to ramen. We had the tonkotsu miso ramen and it was delicious. The stock was rich, thick and porky, the noodles were good and there was a generous serving of spring onions/leek. We tried the gyoza but they were unremarkable. The service was really good - the food came out incredibly quickly! The portions were very generous and the prices were very reasonable.
Victoria Jenner
Hands down. My favourite Ramen restaurant. Great choices on soups bases and a variety of different toppings. Tried a few but recommend the Tonkotsu with double pork and add beanspourts. Thin noodles and flavourful soup with has the option of making spicey.
Attila The Hun
Ate here 3 times. 2 times it was really amazing 1 time it was pretty average. Still, ramen, I love ramen, and they have it in a very big variety.
Aleisha Cunningham
Service was fast, very friendly staff, prices were good, food was yummy :) (had fried noodles and dumplings). Really enjoyed and will definitely go back whenever I'm in the area next.
Rosanne Choy
Could taste sufficient cheese flavour in cheesy ramen. The ramen noodles were thin and soup base was flavourful. Chashu was also nice and thin and complimented the ramen noodles very well. Would definitely come back again to try their kimchi ramen next time :)
Tony Ma
Customisable raamen done right.

Lots of different optional add ons with a great selection of soup base.

The noodles were excellent. I eat massive portion as and one bowl is enough for me.

Good noodles, good pork, good soup, good vegetables!

Service: 4/5
Environment: 3/5
Food quality: 4.5/5
Food quantity: 4.5/5
Presentation: 4/5
Price PP: $15-$20
Floyd Moratti
Professional ramen chefs with a consistent great flavour. The interior design of the shop could be improved upon, but the price charged for each dish is very affordable.

- ask for a kaidama (extra bowl of noodles) afterwards if you have still have ramen soup and want more.
Danica Perez
My fave ramen place in NZ. Food is not only affordable but also absolutly amazing. Staff is very friendly and accomodating. Highly recommended.
Zoe The Paranoid
Simply best ramen in town. My friend and I come here at least 2 times a week. The place is usually packed during peak dining period, however, you don't have to wait to be seated.

Some dishes that I tried and really loved:
- Kimchi Ramen with Chicken Soup and Salt
- Gyoza (dumplings)
- All other ramens made with chicken/pork soup + miso and extra corn + butter

I find that ramens with chicken/pork soup + soy are super salty, so we only ordered them once each. If you're not a big fan of salty tasting, then perhaps only look for ramens with miso or salt.

Few suggestions for the customer service:
- I hope the chef senpai can wash his hands after playing his cellphone and before he puts the pork slice on top of ramen...
- Also, the owner senpai can wosh his hands after touching the screen remoter and before he puts ramen in the pot...
- Myself got misunderstood few times by the waiter as well as I observe other people experienced the same problem. Would be good to approach a more kiwi-ish serving style.

The ramen is so tasty I have to force myself to ignore the issues above...
Heidi
For $12 for a bowl of ramen was pretty good to share for my friend and I. Super simple and yummy and maybe come again next time to try the other ramen they have to offer. The pork was chewy and I loved the seaweed since i tasted very 'fresh'. The bamboo shoots were also very good!

Happy with the fast service and warm greetings by staff. Had the Tsuke Ramen with miso soup flavour. Being a rookie with ramen, I was surprised that the noodles was simple, tasteless and cold. However, when mixed with the flavourful miso soup, the taste actually made sense. I should've just ordered the normal soup-based ramen. Will definitely give another shot next time!
I'mhungry
Menu was easy to follow and prices were so cheap for quality ay. The broth was so good I had to order extra noodles. The owners were surprised I ordered more but I told them it was so good I had too. They started cheering when they saw me scoffing back the second bowl of noodles hahaha. Great service, great atmosphere and great food. What more could you ask for
Lia Yosaatmadja
I absolutely love Tanpopo! They are my go to place for lunch when i crave for something warm and hearty. Beautiful rich broth combined with al dente noodles, and melt in your mouth pork toppings... sooooo good!!!

I am totally in love with their tanpopo chasiu ramen and miso ramen. That's generally what i eat. Plus dumplings! Love them...

Quick and friendly service.. definitely highly recommend!
Jasmine
If you are looking for affordable and authentic japanese ramen, you come to the right place. The staff are all Japanese who can speak English, so expect the food to taste like authentic Japanese food. Value for money is ok, the serving is generous. Go and see for yourself! Will recommend this place to people who are looking for a good Japanese food that are affordable.
Jay
I had tonkotsu soyu negi ramen which translates to soy sauce pork soup base ramen with spring onions. This new negi ramen is so good. Really good. I had mine less salty and added kimchi to it. It was truly amazing and I really want to get it again. I will definitely go to Tanpopo for negi ramen from now on
Gracia
Very yummy ramen!! I've been to other ramen places and this probably has the best broth for me! My friend ordered a basic ramen which I do not recommend as it didn't have any meat in it, just the noodle broth and seaweed so read the menu carefully! The noodle broth was also a bit oily for the basic one. We came to eat at around 5:30 and at this time the restaurant was getting busy so you can't linger and talk for too long after you finish. Otherwise I did enjoy the ramen I ordered.
Jeff Mo
Had their Tanpopo ramen, soup didn't have much flavour and the noodles were overly soft, and the chashu was average too. Overpriced and overrated.
Lsc900401
Food is good. But the Service quality is too bad. One of the waiter is very rude.I don't know what has happened to him.
Don't look very friendly.
Other staff are good, except that long hair male workers.

Roro Li
Love this place! Came here with my date last night and ordered the Cheese Ramen. I like to get mine either spicy or with the pickled seaweed topping. All in all, no complaints, food came out quick and tasted delicious :) The kaedama option is pretty cool!

Have been here with friends twice and also enjoyed my experience :)

Having tried all of Auckland's ramen icons as well as having as two trips to Japan ... Tanpopo shines through.
Tanpopo's Miso Tonkotsu (with extra pork) and a side of Gyoza dumplings is one of the best meals I have ever eaten. It is my "where do you want to go for your birthday dinner?" dinner. I highly recommend this combination to everyone.

The ramen itself is fairly simple, but the perfectly warming and flavourful soup is heavenly combined with perfect sized noodles. These are the two elements of ramen that everyone fights about, but Tanpopo does it right.

I want to keep applauding how special this place is but I am now intensely hungry typing this. Definitely give this place a try next time you crave ramen (or want to try something new!)
Summerlee Fataoui Schick
Having moved office recently I've been on the round search for different, quirky little takeaways and restaurants around the place. Having seen this place was really busy and never having tried Ramen we decided a group lunch outting should take place .
Packed, small and busy. I got a deconstructed Raman consisting of 3 plates/bowls. For $12 I was more then satisfied with a decent set of condiments on the table to match. Would I go here again ? Maybe, i probably prefer the more standard Japanese restaurants with sashimi selection but none the less I'm glad to have given this place a go :)
Blackpearl
If you're craving for good bowl of tonkotsu ramen, this is the place! I love their tonkotsu ramen, especially the pork and shoyu ramen with extra chashu! Delicious goodness of fats in the broth but it's okay since it's so good! am keen to try their other ramen but everytime I go there I can't resist their tonkotsu ramen.
Tc Z
What I really like is their ramen soup base, that always taste rich with a lot of flavours, and you can ask for softer/harder ramen as well as the richness of the soup base. Their cold ramen is my favourite there during summer time (with soft noodle and rich soup). Their fried rice is more on a moist side but is very delicious. It is also on my favourite list now.
Rissa Lakatogia Siligi
Sooooo good , first time here and always wanted to try Ramen. Definitely a winner. Had the Tanpopo (hope this is right) & im straight going back again 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Rhea Kirstienne Chang
If you're looking for an authentic Japanese ramen, then this is the place to be. Been here for a number of times already and it's just perfect. Just a small and simple Japanese restaurant but it's usually full, and plenty of ramen types to choose from. My favourite go-to ramen is the basic miso ramen. Delicious and perfect for the cold weather or for hangover fix. Staff is also very nice and accommodating.
David Faircloth
Tanpopo if anything is consistent. Very fast and friendly service, food does not take long to arrive to your table. Tanpopos Ramen are always consistently tasty and portion sizes are as expected of good Ramen shops....BIG :) Never disappointing here. Keep up the great work.
AJ
Tanpopo serves some of the best ramen in Auckland. Can't go wrong with their shoyu tonkotsu with some extra chashu on top - bouncy thin egg noodles bathing in deliciously flavourful broth that wasn't sickening nor overly greasy like some other places. Go for the Tanpopo ramen if you crave for something creamier. Great variety of toppings to add on like eggs cause the regular noodles themselves don't come with that much on top. Service is just okay but they are fast and the place seems well-maintained. Definitely give them a go if you love your ramen!
Fraser Lewis-Smith And Alana Ah Tani
This is an all time favourite of mine, Ramen is always incredible value, huge bowls of deliciousness. The staff are also great, welcoming and friendly. All around good service in comparison to similar restaurants. The best Ramen in Auckland. The photo you have a vegetarian ramen soup (closest in pic) then a pork ramen in back.
Terry S
Great service, staff were very friendly and welcoming. Food arrived within 5 minutes of us placing the order. I had the tanpopo ramen, the broth was rich and thick and the flavor was nice, but the amount of meat was not enough. We also had the gyoza which were very nice. Would love to come here again!

Noeyh Sarah
This place is great ramen place. My boyfriend especially loves this place, his favorite restaurant in Auckland. The prices are good and it's fulfilling for a meal. You can also order extra noodles if you need to.

Noodle connoisseurs in Auckland have long considered Tanpopo Ramen to be the best among Japanese eateries, and after my first visit I’m not surprised. Once I dug into my noodles I immediately knew I had found a gem.

I ordered their classic shoyu tonkotsu ramen and was very impressed with the quality of their noodles. In addition to being visually appetising, they actually had that subtle egg flavour you expect egg noodles to have.

At Tanpopo, you can modify the amount of toppings that come with your noodles depending on your appetite. Since I didn’t come with an empty stomach, I got the basic level of toppings: decent portions of bamboo, spring onion, seaweed, and one big slice of pork.

They also honour requests for extra noodles (“Kae-dama”) if you haven’t finished your soup. It does cost $2 extra, but it’s so worth it.

Their pan-fried dumplings were tender, and I especially enjoyed the skin. They were surprisingly tasty even when eaten cold.

With fair pricing and flexible portions, Tanpopo proves to be a handy place to have up your sleeve for all sorts of occasions.

Worst customer service, and I don't know why they still have many customers. The waiter is so rude. I feel so shame about that. Went their with friend, we wanted to seat at an empty table and were forced to share table with others
Fadilla Ruki
One of the best shio & shoyu ramen I've tried. Fast service, reasonable price, big portion and they have lunch set too. I also love their chuka wakame which was really refreshing.
Dani R
Good ramen. Lots of different styles categorised by region. The restaurant is pretty basic but the staff is friendly. Just note that they might not have amazing English skills, so just double check your order to make sure they've understood
Winnie Luo
Standard ramen joint in the city!

The ramen is always served nice and hot, lots of variety to choose from in terms of soup bases too.

The place probably needs a little pick me up in terms of appearance to make it feel abit more inviting.

Staff are friendly and always greets you with a smile.

Overall, good ramen joint for when you are in the city!

Ramen is not something I crave for but the mrs wanted to eat some so here we are again after almost a year since I last visited. We ordered the original pork and creamy pork soup. It has intense flavours but a few more taste of it and it became too salty. Not a cheap meal for a quick bite like this. Apart from the additional meat I feel like it's over priced to add anything else ($3 for extra spring onion or a slice of process cheese).
Anna Fern
If you're after an authentic Japanese ramen this is the place to go. The soup was really tasty and the amount of serving in a bowl is enough to fill you up.

It would be nice if this place has a moe Japanese feel. The interiors could be improved to make it more appealing.

Decided to try this place out due to my recent liking for Ramen dishes. A very cosy place tucked at the end of Anzac ave. The ramen dish was tasty and the pork soup certainly had a burst of flavours. I thoroughly enjoyed this ramen dish although my preference is still with the Ramen dishes served at Daruma.

Plenty of seating space and the price is reasonable. Recommended if you are after a simple lunch.

I bet it won't be easy to find a place with better pork dumplings here in Auckland. Good meat, good dough and perfectly pan fried, with a crispy side.

Ramen is also great. I tried a chashu tonkotsu that was great. Yummy broth with the right amount of fat, not like other places you find in the city.

Service is also good and price very reasonable in this genuine Japanese restaurant.

Some of the best ramen money can by. I had that ramen craving and after hearing good things I can Tanpopo a try. Hearty portions and MASSIVE flavour took this ramen and placed near the top of my list. Only negatives were there wasn't a lot of meat but the huge flavour almost made up for it.
Michelle Hwang
Had a fried rice dish for $ 7.00 and a BBQ pork with sliced spring onion dish for another $ 7.00. Their fried rice dish was much better than ramen dishes to me. It was very glad to hear the sound of frying rice what was made by their Chef in the kitchen. What lively rhythm! Reasonable price and friendly Japanese staff.

Another extension story was that, lots of my friends and I understood the name of this restaurant with a wrong meaning in the past 5 years. Because "tan" is a common surname in China, and "popo" means grandma in Chinese. So what we have known the name of this restaurant was "tan grandma". Lol ~

BTW, the real meaning of this restaurant's name is dandelion, it is also an old Japanese film's name.

Great noodles, great prices! Plenty of flavours to choose from. Didn't give a full score because i think the noodles are lacking in meat... but definitely worth a try!
Daniel
This is a small little ramen store that gets quite a few customers. This is because the ramen is tasty and it makes you feel almost like you're Naruto. 😝

I've been here a few times with friends and it's a nice quiet place for lunch or dinner if you're interested in some tasty ramen!
Frank Lin
Decent portions, although lacking in key ingredients e.g meat. Not exactly cheap for what you're getting. Service is good, but nothing spectacular. The interior looks fairly dated. It is a solid place for some decent ramen.
Medium_Rare
A cosy little ramen joint, our group came here as we were in the mood for something soupy and hearty.

We ordered the 2 miso tonkatsu ramens and a Shoyu ramen. Our orders were taken quickly and the food came out in under 10 minutes.

It was brilliant that our meals came out piping hot and the taste was good although I must admit there was nothing too spectacular.

Showstopper: How quickly our meals came out and how filling the portions were.

Overall Grade: B-
Daniel Kinnoch
Good quality ramen, at an affordable price. Whilst this store is located on a busy road, once you enter and they shut the door, you could just be in a shop somewhere in Seoul or Tokyo. Their specials are good value, and the meals come out piping hot, really quickly.
Sambhav
Ordered the Tanpopo Ramen (S-1) with the lunch combo, i.e. 4 gyoza and rice for an extra $3. I also asked them to make it extra spicy. And boy, did they come through. Ramen had a thick broth, the kind I like, lots of noodles and extremely spicy. Overall, very satisfied with my meal and I highly recommend this place.
Danny
Nothing beats a bowl of hot ramen and a warm smile on a cold August evening. And you can get all of that at Tanpopo for $15. I had heard about the ramen here being pretty good. So I decided to seek shelter here on a rainy Sunday evening. It was quite busy – always a good sign. I was politely greeted and quickly seated. I decided to go for the so-called Tanpopo Ramen.
Issie
So salty broth had to drink water the entire time. Got full because of all the water I drank during the entire meal. Felt sick after eating ramen here. made me question the food after that. Even went there the second time for a fair go but came out disappointed.
Max
Not happy at all with this place they served crappy frozen dumplings and charged me for fresh ones?? Not good engh tanpopo!!!
Do you really think I don't know the difference? I will never return.
Thegreeats
One of my fave places for ramen !
Soup is so deep and it's just done right
Heading home from uni I'll sometimes treat myself to a good ramen.
If you're a ramen fan it's a must try
Interior is nothing much and it's not the cleanest but food is good so meh :)
Brave Eat
Good range of ramen dishes and taste ok dont think its the best in Auckland tho, very average. Service was average the staff wont let us talk after we finished our meal they were trying to remove our dishes as soon as we stopped eating to make us leave....
V.
Was a regular to this restaurant when I lived in Auckland. The ramen dishes my partner and I tried were always flavourful and nothing beats the price; under $40 for 2 meals with alcoholic beverages.
Charlotte
Delicious, super quick, and simple ramen! It got very packed around dinner time. A large selection of ramen with variations of classic types. Very affordable prices and friendly staff!
Misty
I've heard quite a few people say this is the best ramen place in Auckland but I really don't see why?? The broth is salty so need to keep drinking water and it's quite pricey? Maybe I need to go back and try again...
Shahn Ashton
Absolutely love Tanpopo. I've been coming here for years. You don't need to wait long for a table or your food. Friendly staff. This is the only place I will have Ramen... until I go to Japan
Mana Katsukawa Otimi
I HAVE BEEN COMING HERE SINCE I WAS YOUNG CHILD ! My mom has always taken me here for Ramen, it reminds me of Japan. Everyone is so nice and the atmosphere makes you feel like you're in a little Ramen Shop in the middle of Tokyo! THE PRICES ARE SO AMAZING! You definitely definitely get your money's worth here, and they satisfy your hunger and i guarantee you will NOT leave with a empty stomach! Last time I went they had a Lunch combo with your Ramen and it was divine. LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE ! If you're in the city this is the place to get RAMEN !

Only downfall is finding parking, So recommend to catch public transport !
Ben Ch
Absolutely love Tanpopo, have been coming here for years. This place is the definition of good cheap eats. Their prices have remained consistent throughout the years and the flavour has never faltered.

If you like Ramen you MUST visit Tanpopo.
Wendy Zhou
This place is really special!!! Had their special creamy pork ramen, Gyoza...OH MY GOSH! The ramen soup is creamy white and fulfilled with tasteful pork!! Gyoza is $6 for 6, best price in Auckland and best Gyoza I ever had! Simplicity is the winner!! Yes I had them all by myself! Wakakaka Happy Friday!
Queena
Have been here a quite few times already and thought it was great. But the last few times that I've been here, it was average. The other time I had it, the ramen was quite salty. And this time that I had it again it was like... Boring. Nothing special about this place anymore. I think the best soup base here is the miso soup. Oh I don't recommend on getting that cheese ramen. It's not very nice at all. I love cheese, that's why I ordered it. But cheese + ramen = don't go well 😷

I don't know if they've changed owners or chefs. But I probably won't come here unless a friend or family wanted to dine here.
Math Tummë
Tanpopo serves the best ramen in Auckland, hands down. The decor is so fitting, the service is quick and the food is relatively cheap. Their standard offerings are really weak on the amount of meat they give, but you can spend more to get a normal amount - and you get what you pay for.
Charlotte Lewis
I love this place for a warming lunch or dinner while studying late at Uni! It is quick, efficient service and reasonably priced IMO (for the huge bowl you get).
I've been here several times and tried the Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen, Tanpopo Ramen (with added salt), and the Kimchi Ramen (added spice) + the gyoza.
All really good! My favourite so far being the Tanpopo ramen.
The broth is delicious and rich, I love the saltiness of it and always find the ramen extremely flavoursome and filling. Will definitely be back!!
HJ
Another cheap eat ticked off our list as recommend by Metro. Located on Anzac Ave unfortunately there isn't a lot of street parking. Welcomed in by the friendly staff we were seated quickly. With only a few other customers around we were surprised it wasn't vey busy during peak dinner time.

We ordered the Fried noodles ($12) and the Miso vegetarian ramen ($13). The dishes were standard size which was just enough for us. The dishes were full of flavour but the fried noodles were a tad too salty for my liking. Maybe my expectations were too high after reading other reviews but I must say its not the best ramen I've had. However I would like to try other dishes on their menu as our selection may not have been the best options they have.
Annie Bananie
One of the best ramen places in Auckland. It is a bit pricier than the other places but the rich broth and amount of ingredients you get is worth it. Unfortunately no takoyaki but everything else is nice. I love the miso pork with extra vege
Helena Chen
Heard great reviews about this place from a friend so decided to try it out one night when on the hunt for a quick dinner place. It was quite late at night, so the restaurant was pretty much empty when we arrived. The inside was quite standard, but there was an interesting smell throughout the whole place; nothing too unpleasant but it wasn't great either.

We ordered our meals and they arrived very quickly, which was good since we were hungry. I've tried a few ramen places around Auckland, and this is the only place so far that served very thin ramen noodles. It wasn't bad, but I wasn't really use to it and it made the eating experience a bit different. The flavours themselves were very good, potentially a bit on the salty side but still delicious and rich. The serving size was large, just like most ramen places, and very filling as well. The waiter was also very lovely and gracious throughout our time there. Overall, a good experience; perhaps it was hyped up a bit too much for me though.

We visited Tanpopo last and were seated immediately. It was clear they were busy but the service was quick and our ramen arrived within 10 minutes. There was a constant flow of diners.

The tonkotsu ramen had a very rich broth and the miso tonkotsu broth was the same, although a bit too salty for my liking. Both bowls came with a generous amount of toppings. The chasiu pork was cut thick and was beautiful to bite into. My only ( and very very minor) complaint was that the ramen noodles were quite thin compared to others I've had so it lacked the chewiness I love.

The gyoza was nice and crispy on the outside with a cabbage and pork filling. A great accompaniment to the ramen.

I decided to go for the so-called Tanpopo Ramen.

Just ten minutes later I was enjoying some of the best ramen in Auckland. It was packed full of flavour and the texture of the noodles was just right. The serving was quite generous. And it was served with and equally generous ear-to-ear smile.
Audrey
Had a tonkatsu ramen here the other week :) The ramen was absolutely delicious! It tastes genuine and the broth is strong and lovely tasting. However they are quite stingy with their pork as they only give you one pork and you have to pay extra for more pork.
Ryan
Bit out of the way but worth a visit. The ramen was a bit over salty but full of flavour and lots of noodles. Have heard a lot of people rate this as the best in Auckland, not sure if I agree but I think it comes down to personal taste. Worth trying for yourself and seeing what you think!

Service was nice and quick and prices affordable. Pop into Xian next door while you're here and grab one of their burgers too!
Charles Deng
It seems that the ramen was from the Taipin market. It was hard to chew and it didn't taste that nice. The ramen was also way too overpriced.
Zoe Huang
Tanpopo ramen ($14), highly recommended~smells and tastes nice. I like the txture of their noodles. It's at downtown Anzac Ave. and their soup is nice too!
Victoria
Tried this awhile back now and almost forgotten I had. It was ok, we ordered a bowl of ramen each. I didn't get through mine (as always) as I'm not a huge ramen fan in general, feedback from my partner was that he liked his and mine. Wouldn't say it was the best ramen we've had but the interior of the restaurant is nice (especially for the price and area) and the service was good. Based on that we would definitely come back for another bowl or to try something new.
FoodiePhysician
Had high hopes before coming here; had been searching for the best jap ramen house in Auckland and this place was on many top 5 lists.

We had the tanpopo ramen and tonkotsu miso ramen as mains. Upon first tasting the soup, it was nice however a bit on the salty side and the flavour soon became "old," and half way through we needed to change it up by swapping food with one another. I felt it lacked the "it" factor that would normally have me scraping every last drop from the bowl.

We also had the gyoza - wasnt a fan. Small and plain, $6 for 6.

Quite expensive for what you get ~&14 for a bowl of noodles; whether it was the best or not, seemed a bit steep. Still hungry after our meals.

Still searching for the one, 3 Yums

Ever since I had my first ramen here, I am now a regular customer. So far, the best Ramen I've ever tasted in Auckland! The service also is very quick! Kudos to you, guys!
Lucinda Thai
Been here a few times since living in the city and we love it! Especially on a rainy day in Auckland. Love the warm vibe and happy customer service from staff

I've heard raving reviews about this place as a top ramen eatery. I got the cheese ramen (option S6) and my partner ordered the extra chashu pork ramen (option S4). Service was quick although the waitress apologised for the wait. My dish had a lot of hype in recent food blogs however it's not something I'd go back for. I found it slightly too salty and the bamboo shoots had a strong aftertaste that I wasn't used to. The pork served with the other dish was great, however the broth was even saltier than mine. I'm wondering if this is due to the visit being later-lunch time so the stock pot may have boiled down a bit. The noodle quality was faultless however. Both dishes were $14 each (without extra toppings). It is a bit on the pricey side especially compared to the Chinese noodle eatery next door, but if you're in the Anzac St area and in the mood for ramen, it's worth a try. Note on the atmosphere: cute bamboo mat decor; music throughout our meal was Greenday - a bit random in terms of theme, but not offensive.

I forgot what I had ordered. Lol but the one thing that i still remember is the delicious ! :) ramen in the big bowl with sweet corns, seaweeds and soft porks. Can you imagine how delicious it is !!!! Lol
D
Pleasant atmosphere and very efficient staff, but the Tonkotsu Ramen broth was very salty with no real flavour depth, and they don't serve egg with their Ramen?
Ghoulnz
Personally like the highland park one more. I like how you can pick and choose ingredients to create the perfect ramen in the highland park one. One complaint dirty glasses with a film of oil.
Cherries_inthesnow
Although it may not take this place two days to make their stock, the broth I had from Tanpopo tasted pleasant, though did lack the depth and richness of flavour you would associate with quality ramen stock. All the components of the Tonkotsu ramen were cooked decently and overall I felt it came together quite harmoniously.

The gyozas that came with the meal were above average - not too dry nor oily and had a contrasting texture which I enjoyed. It was nothing too memorable, but complemented the Ramen well.

If you're in the area, Tanpopo would be a good place to go for lunch, but when it comes to price point and stomach satisfaction, you can do better.

Would it be on par with the great Ramen places of Japan and Hawaii? Probably not.
But for Auckland, it's worth checking out.

Maria Carmela
Best ramen in Auckland, hands down. I always order tonkotsu shoyu and a plate of gyoza, and they never fail to please. Decently priced too, for the amount you get. A small and cozy place where staff are always happy to serve you.
Bayu Purnomo
Went for a Tonkotsu Ramen and a Miso Ramen for my wife last Sunday. The place is nice though not really accommodating for a parents with prams (note to self, use a capsule next time). Service was quick and great. The noodle just gorgeous and the spicy soup on my tonkotsu was just great!! Keep me warm inside while its pouring rain outside. The only thing is the location where it's really hard to find a parking. But we will absolutely going back after our first and will try the others. =)
Griselda N
Best ramen I've had in Auckland yet. I had tanpopo ramen and the broth was superb. The noodle is also good, not too "done" still chewy just how I like it. The service was really quick. The gyoza was also good. I've read reviews of places where they say it taste authentic (it isn't really) they obviously haven't tried Tanpopo Ramen. Would definitely visit again in the near future and bring my friends as well!
Sara Korajczyk
Best ramen I've had in a while hands down
Danny Choi
Easily the most authentic Ramen you can get in Auckland at this price range. Having tasted close-to-the-real thing in South Korea, I thoroughly enjoyed the Tonkotsu Miso Ramen, which I ordered spicy at no extra cost.

While most other ramen restaurants in Auckland seem to always overcook their ramen noodles to the point where its so soft it can be compared to instant, Tanpopo Ramen seemed to have mastered the craft, as the noodles were just the perfect consistency, the balance between chewy and soft was just right. The spiciness add-on was also subtle yet consistent, not overpowering the dish but leaving that heat on your tongue which was also superb. The pork was tender and properly cooked, the broth was seasoned well, not too salty in my opinion, however I do tolerate saltiness more than the general population seems to. Lil' bit saltier than ready salted blue bird chips. But nowhere near as much as sour cream and chives or green onion. (If that gives any indication).

In terms of service... Full points. Smiles everywhere.
I like to believe I can understand a smidgen of Japanese, but even without that, anyone could tell they were happy to be serving us when talking to each other.

Best ramen I have had in Auckland to date.
Shame its not in Central Auckland as I have little business in Britomart, but the distance wont stop me from going to get another bowl next week.
And compared to so many other ramen places in Auckland, Tanpopo is the only spot that deserves the 5/5.

Thanks
David Clay
If you want good ramen at a very fair price this is probably one of the best choices in auckland, if you're not interested in ramen then you won't find much here. Service is decent, atmosphere whatever but it's ramen! Super tasty
Trin
Probably the best ramen restaurant in town. Full of flavour and decent portion. The soup is probably just a bit too salty though because me and my friends got really thirsty after.

Staff were friendly and attentive. Service was quick and efficient we didn't have to wait long for our food. Perfect for people that want a quick dinner.
Johnine @ HaloHaloAtbp
Easily the best Tonkotsu ramen in Town. My tongue got slightly burnt today as I got too excited to take a sip of the soup! I always get the $11 Tonkotsu Shio ramen, and my fiancé always gets the Spicy Miso. (They can make any ramen spicy.) What I love the most is how the noodles have just the right amount of firmness, quite chewy but not tough. The chashu was soft and melts in your mouth. I would like it to be little bit more barbecued to enhance the flavour and I think that's the Cantonese style of doing it, but that's beside the point. The flavour of the broth is spot on with the right balance of "porkiness" and creaminess. Yum.

We also ordered pork gyoza, as we normally do when we eat ramen. Theirs are good, not the best I've tasted, but good.

The staff are friendly and attentive. The only negative thing I can think about is the limited seating in the restaurant which may be an issue if you come in groups of at least 4. We don't have this problem often as there's only the 2 of us and we won't mind sitting in the bar. In case you see a line do come and stay as the turnover's quick anyway, service is fast, PLUS it would definitely be worth the wait. :)

Absolutely the best ramen place in Auckland! It doesn't matter which bowl of ramen you order, its going to be amazing! I personally love to order the shio butter ramen and add extra pork and corn though :D

I have returned many times, and there will be many times more!
BeeQueUU
If I just said whats the S11 at Tanpopo then the diehard fan will know!! The only disappointing thing about Tanpopo is tge location in the city. Limited seating (frequent wait) and no where to park apart from rip off Wilson's.
The ramen here is consistently good. Introduced to Tanpopo by a Japanese friend so that alone is a solid endorsement. Tonkotsu and miso bases are my fav. But the other elements are generally similar between dishes and you can add extra toppings. If I'm too lazy to drive to Ramen Takara then this is my second choice.
Miss Kiki
I have been here a few times now for lunch. The ramen is so tasty and a very generous portion. My favorite is the miso based one. I do like the ramen here but to be fair I have not tried ramen anywhere else so I have no other ramen to compare it to.
Linny
Introduced to Tanpopo by a friend when we were craving ramen. The prices are reasonable and we got the additional gyoza set for an extra $2, you can't beat that deal!

Service is quick and efficient, we didn't have to wait long for our food and I enjoyed mine, my husband thought his was average. He ordered something different from what he got last time and thought that was much more enjoyable but did not diminish his thoughts on the place just cause he was the one to choose poorly.

I thought my bowl was the perfect size for me and he got the large and it was enough for the both of us.

Definitely recommend this place to people its good quality and for a fast cheap meal on the run it is definitely worth going for.
Jason
The best ramen in Auckland, hands down. Atmosphere is lacking, but for a good cheap feed it's a perfect place to go.
Wallace Tulloch
Found this place in Auckland after passing through. Great to see a shop just dedicated for Ramen. The first thing I said to my wife was, it smells like Japan. The owner was very attentive and took our order promptly.

The menu was extensive, covering all types of Ramen. I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and can say that I quickly ate it all up without stopping.

My wife did the same. I also ordered a plate of Gyoza which were exactly like how I remember them in Japan.

Overall a good experience, I just wish we had something like this in Wellington, we are gagging for it-come on down Tanpopo and open a branch!
Emma
My favourite ramen restaurant in Auckland. I always get the same thing and the quality never changes. The staff are really polite and the prices are reasonable. They're in line with other restaurants so I think it's not too pricey, especially considering the standard of their soup bases, it has so much flavour! I also love that the portions are not too big, but enough to be comfortably filling.
Neila
Really awesome Ramen. I love this place so much. I've been about 10 times. One of my favourite restaurants. Different types of ramen to choose from (but it gets boring after a while so beware) It's a more casual atmosphere and I guess some people will think it's pricey but I absolutely love Japanese food.
Chops
Ok you want good Ramen, come here good service and the food is very good.

Some of the best dumplings around.

Spicy miso ramen is insane!!!!!
Chris L
Simply the best ramen in Auckland. For some it might be too rich or salty but i enjoy the richness of their soup. The owner seems to have a big passionate about ramen. Price a little higher than other Asian noodles but definitely worth with all good quality and portion. Not too generous with stars but definitely 5 stars.
Sabibibi H
Best ramen in Auckland. Close to uni, which is convenient for students like me. Good service, okay price for okay portion, I reckon the "Tokyo style" ramen is the best on their menu! Though there was once that the green soya beans we ordered were still icy when served. Other than that, a nice place to go when you want something warm on a cold day.
Kay Linatoc- Reyes
Food is excellent but I need to agree with Aika (another customer who made a comment here). I spent my birthday and had around 20 friends here. We were rushed to go out just because they didn't have enough tables to accommodate the others waiting. Very rude owner who rushed us out. The other staff members were lovely but the owner was just remarkably rude.
Ella Duan
Too salty for too many year...
Alex
Used to like it, but after several visits I found after having their ramen we always feel quite thirsty. Probably their flavor is too strong or they use some concentrated soup base (or MSG) rather than authentic Japaneses soup base. However I like their noodles. The portion there is relatively small to me, so I always have to order the double sized noodles. I have to say it is tasty anyways.
James Jin
The service here is nice and friendly and food arrived promptly on time. There, that's the good part out of the way. The problem is the taste and what you get for your money. I got the classic Tonkotsu Ramen, as I remember eating here years ago and it was the best choice. The broth was weak and gone was the rich, pork bone flavour. It doesn't taste nearly as delicious as it used to and is not as authentic anymore. For $11, The noodles are adequate if you don't have a large stomach, however if you have a normal appetite you'd need to get extra noodles. The pork slice was also TINY compared to before. At another ramen place called Mentatz (also in the CBD) they charge you $2 less, gives twice the amount of pork and the soup is far better, and much closer to authentic Japanese Tonkotsu ramen. I do not recommend eating here anymore. It's a shame because it used to be so much better.
Regan
Certainly the best ramen store in the central Auckland area. Great if you like tonkotsu ramen which I think this place does pretty well. It's reasonably priced, polite staff and delivered to your table in good time. I only recommend this restaurant to friends looking for decent ramen in the city.
Shirley Liew
This place probably serves the best ramen in Auckland CBD regardless to their average presentation, but who cares about presentation when you can have a big bowl of perfectly cooked ramen at a reasonable price. Totally great value for money! The broth is very flavourful and delicious with the right texture of ramen noodles swimming in the bowl. Their only downside is the hard-boiled eggs. It would be perfecto if the eggs can be cooked with a nice semi-solid yolk.

It is a small, no fuss ramen shop where you can see many people walking in and out of the shop, thus it is not a suitable place for a long catch up with friends over dinner. It is a place where you just want to have a quick bowl of tasty ramen and out of the shop once you are done. Once you get up, your table will easily be occupied right away. Another option is to pick a less busier day like Monday or Sunday and if it's for dinner, as early as 5pm.
Mozzibee
One of our favorite restaurant in Auckland. The quality is quite consistent. Lunch time special is a good value of money.
Yuki
In my opinion, this is the best ramen noodle shop in NZ.I love ramen and I visited most of the ramen noodle shop in NZ while travelling.I also visited more than 100 ramen noodle shops in Japan but I am sure this ramen noodle shop can fight well even if it is in competitive Japanese ramen field!
Adeline
I love Tanpopo. It is unpretentious! Food is simple, tasty, cheap and filling. I love the soup-based dishes, esp anything that has pork in it.

I love coming here on a cold/rainy day. Love it.
SSC
Good value food for money and the staff were polite.
HJ
This is a small restaurant, but the food is very good! I especially like the Pork soup based noodles. A must! My Japanese friend reckons it tastes just like in Tokyo!
YellowBlankets
Simple and straightforward, Tanpopo Ramen is hands down one of the best ramen choice in Auckland. I love how you can opt for lighter/richer soup and softer/harder noodles, because I am a fussy noodles person; overcooked noodles don't do me much! The staff are always very welcoming and their service is fast; I have never waited for more than 15 minutes for my ramen in their busy, packed days.

My personal favorite is their Tonkutsu Shoyu Ramen, rich pork broth with bamboo sprouts, chashu strip, seaweed and plenty of spring onion. If you love Miso Ramen it's very well made too! They serve ranges of authentic Japanese craft beer, like Orion, which goes very well with a bowl of piping hot ramen. Their gyoza is also very nice, and on days when I want something more substantial than soupy ramen I can always find a back up in their very tasty fried rice.

My friend's Japanese husband once said it tasted exactly like the ramen he ate in Japan.... which is a good, thumbs up sign!

Ramen is one of the reason I like Japanese food, so my wife and I try several stores around Auckland to find ones with good value with reasonable price. This tiny little place is one of them, you can easy miss it. The ramen all about the soup, you could find the good smell with fresh meat and make it worthy to trying. There are four type of ramen there, my rating is:

1 ~ five star Tonkotsu shoyu ramen pork soy soup base
2~ four star Shoyu ramen soy soup base
3~ three star Miso tonkotsu ramen pork miso soup base
4~ two star Tonkotsu shio ramen pork and salt soup base

My wife and I both like pork soy soup base as the meat is juicy ,the base is very good, probably because we like soy as chinese, however, my japanese friends like the 2 star (my rating) Tonkotsu shio ramen pork and salt soup base, they say that's the real ramen should be like, for me, it's very salty , if you don't like too salty food, never try .

Also miso is the base of all japanese food, no matter what you order, they will provide you miso soup, so for me the miso soup base is ok,but I dont really get into miso. All the dishes start around $11, the extra topping ones start around$13~ $17, you can also add something else, make your own combination.

A little ramen shop with each page of the menu dedicated to a particular soup base. The menu is a bit confusing but looks like you get the basic level ramen for $11 and there's a couple of basic + extra combo choices (~$14) in pictures, but I think it's best if you get the basic level and add in extras you like from the bottom of the menu (in words). I didn't love their ramen noodle as it was a bit firmer than my preference. The Tonkatsu Miso soup base I had was great, and they served it quite fast (great for going to Vector after). I also like the friendly people working there, it has a chill vibe which reminded me of getting a bowl of noodle after scuba diving at Okinawa (Japan)!
