I can’t believe there’s a Thai vegan restaurant with no onion and garlic… got my heart pumping, ordered som-tom salad and Tom Kha Gai soup with jasmine rice…. Yumo yumo

Been here twice in a week. The food is fantastic! Highly recommend. I'm celiac and vegan so hard to eat out but the staff is wonderful/helpful and felt safe eating (no reactions either time). Will be going back again soon.

Fantastic restaurant! Crispy chicken on rice is very nice! It’s flavourful and tasty. Will absolutely come back again. We already have been here for so so many times but we never feel enough! The spicy chicken on rice is my favourite! It’s Korean style spicy 🌶️ so many options to choose from. Tom Yum Gong soup is my partner’s favourite 🤩! We are happy that here is a vegan restaurant near our home 😌should be enough words…

Choice little joint. Not big, but cosy. Really good portion size. Quick and friendly service. Great variety of options. Kung pow cauliflower was delicious, pan fried spring rolls were like an upside down tear pancake & awesome. Affordable and super yum. Recommend for a quick delicious meal

We had the vegan crispy pork belly. This dish should win a price or something. Very well made, taste, texture, colour wise. Very flavourful for a vegan dish. It can be difficult to get that depth in a dish. The fried tofu dish was also very good. Good tasting tofu, lots of vegetables.

First time trying out vegan food and it was unexpectedly good. Ordered crispy chicken with rice as well as spicy chicken and it was out of this world. The crispy salt & pepper tofu too, was delicious. Will come here again next time when I visit Auckland again!

Small thai vegetarian restaurant on High Street, and it always get busy during dinner time. Crispy chicken is one of their famous dish here and I second that, so crispy and delicious. Salt & pepper tofu was good as a side dish but not as a main IMO as it was a little dry to eat with rice. The portion seems to be smaller now, but still really good value if you are looking for cheap eats in city. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend this place. Well well well.... i had been transported to Thailand for the time of eating this delicious meal.. pad thai and red curry are the basics when trying a thai place for the first time. But it wasn't our first try. We love this place. Thank you for the chef and staff for the service, it was a delight. Will come back again for sure. The only downside of this worthy place is its location: in a dark corner of the busy High Street

Awesome vegan food. Highly recommend the crispy chicken rice dish. Pad Thai was also great

I had the yellow noodles with vegan chicken and they were amazing! However the crispy tofu was the "soft kind" (texture wise) which is not my favourite. But I really recommend this place!

I have always loved this place, but since it changed hands I think it's been even better. It's clear the new owners are bringing fresh ideas to their menu, and as a long time patron it is appreciated. I can still go for my old time favourites, but I also get to enjoy a delicious dessert if I want. The roti with banana and chocolate was so so tasty. We love that our picky family can all find something to enjoy here.
Courtney Kezlarian
Everything here was delicious. Went back a second time on the trip because we couldn't eat everything we wanted to try on the menu the first time. My favorite was definitely the spicy crispy chicken, my partner loved their hot and sour soup.

If you're a vegan, this'll be your heaven. So many different options, whether you like mock meat or just plant based tofu and veggies, there's something for everyone. (Do yourself a favor and try the 'mutton: kebab and then the fried 'chicken'.) Bring your meat eater friends too! They'll adore trying things and they'll admit it's good!

I was first introduced to sunflower 🌻 3 years ago on the recommendation of many local friends who said this was the best vegan spot in the city. I have been a regular since then, and can confirm, sunflower never misses. I usually get the spicy chicken on rice & the red bean pancake. Both are to die for. When I first had the "chicken", I could not believe that this was vegan. I have also heard that the pork belly is to die for. The staff are always so lovely and helpful. It is always such a pleasure visiting, and it has become my comfort meal. It is always consistent, delicious & fresh. Will always keep coming back here & recommending for everyone to give it a try. Thanks for all the delicious meals and great conversation 🌻🌻🌻

This place is a treat for vegans - must go. They have a huge selection of vegan dishes. We ordered spicy chicken, pancakes, green curry, pad Thai and curry puffs. The pad Thai was the best. My vegetarian friends loved the food, non vegetarians found it average. Staff was very friendly and helpful, place gets packed very quickly.

Great place for vegan food and very tasty. Ordered the sunflower noodles with vegan chicken which was full of flavour. The portion can be a little more for the price of 19$. Will definitely be back.

The restaurant is located in the back of what looks like a food court. Keep heading back and follow the signs until you reach the restaurant. The menu is quite extensive and it is all surprisingly vegan. I ordered at the counter and then grabbed an empty table. I was given water after sitting down. I grabbed the pad Thai and it was quite tasty. The flavours were nice and a bit different, I'm guessing due to the addition of other veges that you don't normally see in it like beans. It was a really nice place for a really good meal without meat.

A beautiful place for vegetarians and vegan lovers. All the dishes from menu are worth to try. Good seating area. Quick service and friendly staff. Paid parking available as situated in the city centre. No onion and garlic used in food so suitable to dietary restricted people.

I ordered the fried chicken on rice and man it was so good 🤤 Customer service was great and the amibence made me feel at home. A great vegan place and my new spot.

Service 5/5
Food 5/5
Ambience 4/5

Very friendly service and the pad Thai was so incredibly tasty and flavoursome. Nice hidden spot on High Street. Will definitely visit for more of their dishes.

Im not vegan and i loved the food. They have a large selection of vegan options. I got the duck and the taste and texture was amazingly similar to the real thing. Would definitely go there again.

Pleasantly surprised with this little gem in town. It was a very busy lunch time for this place when we arrived but service was stil excellent given there was only two people that manned the whole thing.
The selection is very broad and the taste was very good! I opted for the very popular spicy chicken and was not disappointed. Will definitely be back to try more dishes from the menu. Bonus that it was on zomatoGold!
Cherry
The food was amazing but the whole experience was a let down cause the chef was clipping his nails inside the kitchen! I really wanted to come back and try other things but after the incident I couldn’t finish the meal in front of me. Shame the food was really good!
Bella Qian
I dream about their pad Thai and the thought of it is the only thing that keeps me going through the day. They must have made a deal with the devil to make something this good. 20/10 would recommend.
Maggie
one of my top vegan/vege spots! the chicken with rice is sooo yum and the soy duck is delightful too! have been there many times with non vegan/veges and theyre also a fan! very homely and nice staff.

Best place ever I visit this place every time I fly in year by year, parkings a hassle but the love for this place overlooks that issue. spicy chicken for life ❤️
Nivera Garg
The flavours are amazing. Thai curry was a little watery though.
Food?
Vegan Thai food done very well. Ingredients were fresh and full of flavour. Highly recommended, will be back.

This place has some fantastic food! Not just for vegans/vegetarians either. Dishes still manage to pack a big flavor despite being meat free and it's super value if you have zomato gold. Definitely recommend the Rad Na Thai fried noodles :)

with limegreen walls laden with artwork and funky fake flowers, it feels like you’ve been invited into their home! the staff are super sweet and you can tell that they pour a lot of love into their food.

we ordered a bunch of different dishes to share, but the saucy satay ‘chicken’ and fragrant green curry were definitely the winners of the night.

i also thought the fresh vege’s were a really smart touch as it balanced out the heaviness of the rice and noodles perfectly! so happy i finally got to come here and i’m sure i’ll be back soon!
Vivian C
We came here with Zomato Gold and ordered the Rice w/ Crispy Chicken and Rice w/ Fish Fillet & Eggplant.

The flavours of both dishes were really nice and the textures of the “meat” was interesting and soft. Loved the rice that paired with the dishes as it was fresh and fluffy.

Service was a bit slow considering we were the only table there, but were polite and friendly.
Kun Tao
Used zomato gold. It was really cheap. But don’t really like the noodle soap, it tasted like Chinese medicine, but i am sure it is good and health, jus the taste. The green curry was ok
Coco_Clairy
I’ll definitely give 5/5 to the pad Thai. But sadly only 1/5 to the mapo tofu. So on average, only 3/5. The service is pretty nice though- quick turnarounds and friendly waitress.
Laura Richardson
The food here is AMAZING, suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Not too pricey either. Lively atmosphere, the staff are very helpful and kind. No alcohol though.
Guilty_eatsnz
For all you skeptics out there towards vegetarian/vegan food, you need to try @sunflowerthaiveganfood_nz .
We ordered the pad thai ($14.5) and the chicken in peanut sauce ($16).
.
.
.
Taste: 5/5
Service: 5/5
Atmosphere: 3/5
Price: 💰
Recommend: 5/5
.
.
.
Regardless of the absence of meat, this place is one of my fav thai restaurants and is super nice to your wallets 👍👍. I love the pad thai here since it's not your usual sickeningly thick and sweet sauce. Instead its light and full of flava 🤤. The peanut chicken (?) has 0% chicken ofc but you sure don't miss it. Its crispy and saucy and so fkn good with rice 😍🙊. Definitely recommended!!!
Jeannette Salim
I was apprehensive to try this place as it is vegetarian, but the chicken peanut dish was delicious. The negative part of the experience was the service. The waitress got my order wrong and brought out a chicken cashew dish and was adamant that it was what I ordered. I had to tell her several times that I didn't order that dish before she would change it.
Samantha Badilles
Went along with my vegetarian friend to eat here for lunch the first time, and seriously they’re food is amazing!! I always suggest for us to come back!
Neža Grželj
Me and my partner went to Sunflower for lunch. We both ordered fried “chicken” with rice. Which was delicious, tasted like a real chicken.
A lot of dishes to choose from and all of them are vegetarian, which is even better.
I will definitely come back.
The Poor Foodie
Food: 3/5
Service: 3/5
Overall: 3/5

A cosy vegetarian restaurant located in CBD. I ordered the Sunflower soup noodle and it was packed with vegetables. The soup was sort of sweet and spicy probably because of the ginger they put.
Doris Zhang
Staff are friendly, food are amazingly good! Good portion as well! And definitely affordable! Especially with Zomato Gold you get one complimentary food!!!
Sorry_vonguenumber
Hidden little gem at the back of a building in high st. You would not really believe it is mock meat and it is all plant based food. Great tasty food. Love the soy “duck” and the “fish” were so tasty. Service was ok. A little rough on the edges.

Sunflower Thai Vegetarian is hands-down my favourite restaurant in New Zealand. If I could give them the golden buzzer I would. Even before I was vegetarian I ate here because the food is absolutely delicious, nutritious and the staff are lovely. I've introduced more people than I can count to this place (vegetarians and non-vegetarians) and often bump into them while eating here. Not one person I've introduced has said they didn't enjoy their meal afterwards, so I can guarantee you won't be disappointed with any meal served up here.
Margaret Chen
One of my favourite vegetarian restaurants in Auckland! Not only is it homely and authentic, the staff are friendly, the portion sizes are good, and the huge menu have got me coming back again and again. Would recommend to all vegetarians and non-vegetarians who want to try something different

A surprise found in city! We ordered a fried noodle and a spicy ‘chicken’ with rice to share, both dishes are tasty and very filling!

This will be my go to when I am wanting vegetarian lunch in city!

Will be back to tried their curries and pad Thai!
Shuyi Wang
We ordered the rice with spicy chicken and vege and the hot plate noodle with steak and veges. Both dishes were full of flavour and the fake meat tasted amazing. I'm pleasantly surprised by how delicious a vegetarian meal can be. Definitely coming back to try more dishes.

Food - 5/5
Ambience - 3/5
Service - 4/5

Come here often, the food is nice, I especially like the fish cakes, sesame pancakes and pad Thai. Usually food is great, but the last time I went the spicy chicken we ordered had too much soy sauce therefore was quite salty and not that spicy. Zomato gold discount makes it very worth.
Claire Pham
Quick service, various options. Recommended for everyone, not only vegetarians. We ordered 5 dishes and loved them all, but I guess the best goes to the pan fried fish with ginger.
Sarah Wu
The food was satisfying, the price was just, and the potion size was fair. The staff was friendly and the place was simple but neat. The presentation of food was good. Would absolutely revisit.

Delicious vegetarian meal! Went there at 6pm and the place has already half full. We had crispy chicken rice, spicy chicken rice, soy duck rice, pad thai and fried oyster. Our favourite is fried chicken! So crispy and flavourful I didn’t know how they did that. The portion is quite big so it definitely worth the price. And now with Zomato Gold our meal become even cheaper. Staff are very friendly too. Highly recommend this place if you want to try something different in city.

Super friendly, the food was Great, would be a perfect place for all vegetarians, I loved the experience! Would definitely visit again, thank you for the great dinner!

This place is definitely a must for people who are dairy free or vegan. The food is quite good, the crispy "chicken" is amazing, not sure how it tastes so real but definitely recommended. Found the noodles to be a little oily however.
Service: 5/5
Food: 4/5
Ambience: 4/5

Tucked inside a little alley behind a couple of other restaurants is this vegetarian hidden gem. You’d be surprised by the menu they offer and it’s great for both vegetarians and meat lovers.

My friend really enjoyed the Pad Thai she ordered as it was full of flavour but not as oily compared to other places. The Sunflower noodle soup was delicious as well, the soup was full of flavour and had a variety of additions such as vegetables, mushrooms and oden.

The food came out quickly and staff are friendly, though it’s probably not a place to come to if you’re looking for something with a bit more buzz.

Would recommend! :)

(Found out about this place through Zomato Gold)

Very busy vegetarian Thai restaurant on High street. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. Food is ok, nothing really strikes me tho. The ambiance makes me feel like I'm back to Asia, which is amazing!! Good value if you use Zomato Gold by the way :) really my favorite vegan place in Auckland 💓💓💓

Small little shop in High Street which can be a bit hard to find/notice unless you’re really looking for it. Came here because of Zomato Gold and was not disappointed! Food was delicious and so many vegetarian and vegan options to choose from! At first glance this may seem like a takeaway shop but definitely give this place a chance if you’re looking for good food!

Food: We had the Pad Thai and I substituted the Chicken Satay for Tofu Satay - very easy to change/alter your meals which I found accomodating. Good portions and delicious!

Service: Lovely people and everyone was very sweet and accomodating. Greeted and seated as we walked in and got checked up on during our meals.

Would definitely recommend

Good place to visit if anyone in your group is vegetarian. Me and my vegetarian friend thoroughly enjoyed their food and service. Wil visit again

Food used to be super great but now its really average, the dish was a bit cold. The fried tofu chicken was overcooked and the favour was really dull.

It was vegetarian night out for the wife's birthday and we were treated to Thai style vegetarian versions of famous Thai Tom Yum soup, Chicken Burger, Dumplings, Spicy Noodles with Chicken..all done in tofu derivatives of meat dishes.

Bang..bang..bang..banging with flavor. Service from the single waitress was phenomenal. One had to marvel at how alert she is to the customers requests and hardly ever slips up getting the orders right first time even though there are 20 people in the restaurant with only two cooks.

Don't forget the chilli condiments and oils for added punch .

And tofu done like that I will eat any day..
Neat, clean, vegetsrian with vegan options.

It's very hard trying to find a place that is both affordable, vegan and absolutely delicious. I've been coming here since I was at uni absolutely love the food and the staff are so kind. The dishes are so tasty really recommend and love the green curry and red curry, crispy chicken, spicy chicken and fish and chips. I will keep coming back. 5/5

Such delicious food. I had meal number 36 which is a faux chicken, vege noodle dish and was scrumptious. Kinda wish it was never ending. Really a great place!

Also ordered takeaway chicken and bacon burgers. The bacon burger was super yum!
BaNaNa
Food was great and did not lack any flavour considering that it’s vegetarian! Service was good and I would like to try other items on the menu too. Sometimes I find it difficult looking for a place that has vegetarian options as I have friends that are and this is such a good option! Dumplings weren’t as good though
Asomek
A little hard to find but they serve some decent food. We were visiting from Australia and needed some vegan food after our flight and long day exploring. We ordered four dishes:

Money bags entree: Peanuts and something else wrapped in a dumpling wrapper then deep fried, served with sweet dipping sauce. Not particularly interesting or tasty, just a crunch with a soft filling. It was too sweet with the dipping sauce and too dry without it.

Sesame pancakes entree: basically a roti. Flaky pastry with a mild sesame flavour. I didn't really enjoy it but my partner loved it.

Noodles with sour and spicy soup: a huge bowl of noodles in a spicy and oily soup. Make sure you are hungry if you order this! Not much vegetables in it but the flavour was decent.

Soy duck with rice and veg: really nice faux duck, very sticky and moist, strong flavour and nice texture.

Overall we left very full and I wasn't disappointed with the food, but I wish we'd ordered more vegetable dishes as I felt quite heavy from all the starch and gluten. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things.

Oh yeah we also got the smoked plum tea... That was disgusting. Must be an acquired taste.
Adri Slijp
So deliciously good. The food is amazing and the staff are lovely. The price is great too. Best vegan food. My fave is satay chicken . The fish and eggplant stir fry dish is also great and so are the curry puff's.

I’ve been here a few times (20+) and it’s always spot on . They one thing I’ve found is that once you have something you like - it’s hard to try something new . It’s that delicious !
Vegan or not - if you want a nutritious and tasty food, at a small cost - this is where to go on High Street

I always thought the idea of vegan Thai food was quite off-putting but I just couldn’t control my curiosity.

Service: 7/10
The lady that greeted us looked quite tired but she still tried her best to be polite and enthusiastic.
She was also super understanding when we informed her of our dietary restrictions and perfectly obeyed our instructions.
The food did take quite long to come even though it wasn’t dinner rush time.

Food: 6/10
We ordered the green curry and the pad Thai.
The green curry tasted purely of coconut milk and felt like dessert more than dinner. I understand that it’s vegan but shouldn’t it be a imitation of real green curry?
The pad Thai was actually decent but it also had quite a strong component of sweetness to it. The fake meat in it was actually pretty good, even though the texture was a little weird.
Overall even though there wasn’t any animal products, it was still packed with nutritious ingredients, that didn’t take awful.

Ambiance: 3/10
Don’t come here expecting to be wowed by the ambiance.
It feels quite dark and musty inside with no windows since it’s at the end of a corridor.
The space isn’t very spacious and there are a few seats in weird corners of the restaurant.
The kitchen is hidden behind a wall but it is still quite loud since there isn’t a closed door separating it.

It’s a pretty good option for vegan asian food but don’t expect it to taste very authentic.

Came in for an early dinner tonight at around 5:30pm with friends. Friend strongly recommended this Thai vegetarian restaurant and decided to take us there to try. We ordered the sesame pancake, rice with spicy chicken & vege, rice with crispy chicken & vege and fried rice with chicken & vege. The fried rice didn't taste oily and came with a slice of orange and lemon. Sesame pancake was served in small pieces and super crispy. I personally prefer the crispy chicken more than the spicy chicken because of my preference for crispy food over soggy ones. The spicy chicken was the perfect spiciness for me. It wasn't too spicy but was enough for me to taste it. Food didn't take too long to come out. Soup noodles were quite a large portion. Broth wasn't too oily. Atmosphere was okay 3/5. So glad to see such a successful vegetarian restaurant in the city! Perfect place for vegetarians to eat.

Possibly my new favourite restaurant in the city!
I have been pleasantly impressed by this restaurant by my one visit here on a Friday night. It was semi-busy, and we had to wait half an hour for a table -so do make sure to make a booking if you’re planning on visiting, as I feel this place is getting more notice.

The service was excellent, the one single waitress working was SUPER attentive especially during the busy dinner shift. So I commend her on her hospitality ☺️

Food was absolutely delicious. Even if you’re not keen on vegetarian cooking, this place works wonders and makes their dishes freaking amazing and so damn good.

I recommend the crispy “chicken” dish. Can’t wait to come back to have it again.

Oh, and having Zomato gold undoubtedly is the icing on the already phenomenal cake. So I highly HIIIGHLY recommend coming in to try it out if you have Zomato Gold!! You will not be disappointed. 🤗

~

Came back another time: Was slightly displeased with this visit.
Wait time was a quite long (30mins + ) to get our dishes. On that night, they were confused and maybe screwed up some other customer’s dish from the looks of it? They were pretty busy and you could tell they weren’t trying their hardest to be accommodating to the customers. The potatoes and the fake meat in the Musmun curry were way too over-cooked and soft. No texture whatsoever. like wtaf. You didn’t even have to chew it. The fake chicken in the rice dish tasted a little bit off too. Such a shame that this visit wasn’t as great as previous ones, I’ll still give them another chance though ha mood.

Great value for money! Went here to thanks to Zomato Gold and will definitely go again. Photo doesn't do it justice. Server was really friendly, faux meat was super yummy (although tofu options just taste like tofu), and the creamy potato curry is amazing. Huge variety of choices, looking forward to trying more

Staff/service: 4/5
Venue: 3/5
Price/portion: 5/5

The place is a little bit outdated and could do with a refresh.
Both me and my lunch company ordered the same food Pat Thai. We found the pat Thai lack of flavour with not many veggies and was on the dry side. Tucked away on high Street this place has excellent food for the vegetarian and vegan inclined. Wide variety of food on the menu. Extremely reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

Nice Thai vegan restaurant and very nice food with zomato gold. Friendly and polite staff.
I was expecting more spicy and favour on the food. Green curry could have been done a bit better. We would try again next time.

Little gem in the city, wouldn’t have a clue that there is a restaurant there. The place was clean and tidy. Good customer service and good choices for vegan food. Price and portion are generous. Will come back here again for sure

A must try for vegans! Love the food here, so good and very affordable with large portions. I’ve been here quite a few times and I also get number 33 the “chicken” noodles and it’s very good! I have also tried a few of their food and it didn’t disappoint. Staff are friendly. The place is just a regular food area, kinda gives a food court vibe but it’s pretty clean. I highly recommend for vegans and vegetarians to try this :)

I need to be honest, haven’t expected much from Vegan place. But Surprise, Surprise. Chicken peanut with rice was damm yum!
Noodles are alright but I will definitely go back to try other dishes.

| Crispy "chicken" on rice |
-
If you have not tried, I suggest you drop your sh*t and go try it! Best vegan fried chicken, the flavors are bomb, texture is on point and cruelty free! For only $14.50 for lunch and left over for dinner 12/10
Charis Yang
The vegetation and tofu fried rice exceeded my expectation, it was light weight yet very tasty to me, and I ended up cleaning the whole plate with not a grain of rice left. It is also pretty healthy too, will come back and bring my friends here.
Machu
occasionally i’ll get takeaways from here if i’m in town. really great food and friendly staff. it’s amazing and slightly scary how realistic their mock meats taste.

every time i go i make sure to order the dumplings. last time i was here i got the chicken with peanut sauce which was nice but a bit too sweet. other than that it’s affordable and super tasty!

just a note that their prices have increased compared to those listed on the menu on zomato

I love this place! The food is always amazing and the waitress is always so sweet and energetic. The Pad Thai and crispy chicken is so delicious, definitely try it if you come here! I’m so glad I found this hidden gem!

Nestled on one of Auckland cities busiest street, you can find this cozy tucked away restaurant. I would give more stars if I could. As a Vegan for the last 5 months my biggest struggle has been eating out and about, this place came highly recommended and it's easy to see why. My little family and I all had different dishes and they all tasted great. It took a wee bit to come out but it was worth the wait and you could tell it was made when you order. We had the dumplings which were delicious. A curry dish and two different "chicken" dishes. The reassurance that everything didn't contain any animal product made choosing what to get extra hard. I wish they had a location in West Auckland because if they did, we would go at least twice a week, budget permitting of course. Thank you to the chefs for the delicious food today, thank you to the kind waitress that made us welcome with her friendly genuine smile. Can't wait to come back! (The crispy "chicken" I had was OUT the gate, thank you!)

Myself and a group of friends did a takeaway order from Sunflower and none of us were disappointed with what we bought! I had the crispy chicken on rice for lunch and it was delicious! You would never know that the dish was vegan, and it had a perfect balance of 'meat', rice and salad. Portions are very generous for the price. Highly reccomend :)

EDIT: I have since gone back to Sunflower. Prices are higher, the food is sweeter (too sweet). Not for me anymore.

What a fabulous meal! I came here expected to be underwhelmed but boy oh boy was I blown away. This was probably one of the most home-y, comforting, warm dinners I’ve had in a long long time. Probably explains why we couldn’t even wait to take a photo before digging in!

We got the red curry, spicy chicken, and sesame pancake.

Red curry: creamy but fresh. This is indulgent, but in a way that makes you feel good - not heavy, just comfortable and very, very nice. Perhaps a little sweet for my taste BUT that being said I’m not a sugar eater.

Spicy chicken: the ‘chicken’ is tender and juicy, yet crispy. The sauce is just sweet enough (erring on too sweet but riding that line very well) and shellacked on in a sticky, satisfying layer that leaves you craving the next bite as you’re chewing the last.

Sesame pancake: simple, not pretentious. Sunflower doesn’t try to be anything it isn’t. The pancake is served in triangles on a plate with no pointless garnishes. It’s just oily enough, not too much, and a great starter or something to dip into any sauce you have! For $4, I recommend this everyone no matter what else you’re ordering.

Honestly, come here for a home-style delicious meal that satisfies, relaxes, and comforts for a very awesome price. I WILL be returning!

I cannot even begin with how delicious this restaurant was. I came here with my meat eating Aunty and she could not believe how yummy the food was. We ordered steamed dumplings, “chicken” in peanut sauce and eggplant with special sauce. I’ll definitely be bringing my carnivorous family here in the future.

Little weak on the service but incredible food! Crispy chicken with rice, green curry and springrolls are a must everytime and a great alternative to meat :)
RL.P
Tofu pad thai was delicious, not too oily like others I’ve tried. Nicely plated. Service was fast. Not many vege places in the city so nice to have another option close by.

The most satisfying, delicious and comforting food in Auckland.

The vegan menu offers a wide variety of flavours. If you are new to veganism or have a craving for a familiar meat dish, this place will provide you with that fix with their wide range of mock meats. They also offer beautiful pure vegetable dishes with perfectly cooked, vibrant, crunchy vegetables.

My favourite items from the menu are the Soup noodle beef and vegetable, chicken peanut sauce, and the three curries. If you want something light, I would recommend the curry puffs, spring rolls, or dumplings. I really don't think you can go wrong, I haven't, and I have tried a good chunk of the menu over the years!

The atmosphere is cosy and feels like a second home. You can come here alone, on dates, or with friends. The staff are always really lovely and add to the charm and appeal of this place.

Vegan restaurants are a bit rare so I was excited to visit! I really liked the crispy chicken on rice and the curry puffs. The pad Thai was good but dumplings were very blank. The service was a real let down. The place was busy with only one front of house staff member. I had to go up to the till to order, had to ask for water and remind them that we ordered drinks as it still hadn’t come after the first dishes arrived. Noticed a few other customers had to do the same. Wait wasn’t too bad for food however. Toilets were pretty icky with a puddle of water on the floor. Found out why - the water from the tap was so strong it squirted over the sink and onto my shoes. Would love to see these minor issues rectified :)

Fantastic place for vegetarians and very good service , tasty food . We ordered Crispy chicken , crispy dumplings and dumplings in a soup are just amazing . Can’t wait to go again 😊
💖
Loved my dish tonight, I had “fish” & fries & my partner had a the chicken burger we both enjoy our meals. Thank you staff at sunflower! We will be back 😁
Vegan Eats AKL
Really great restaurant, tucked away. Completely vegan, super tasty menu. I had the “chicken” fried noodles and they were really yummy. We also got a few starters including the curry puffs which were also good. The prices are also relatively cheap! Totally recommend.

I love this spot! As a vegetarian, it's nice to find a restaurant with so much choice. I have never been a fan of Thai food in my life until I found sunflower. The food is consistent good quality and tastes lovely. I have tried the green curry and the spicy chicken on rice. Both were so so good and full of flavour. I bring my meat loving friends here all the time and they enjoy it! Customer service is quick and professional. Absolutely recommend this place to everyone as there's something for everyone.

I have had the food from here and it’s great but one thing the restaurant needs to work on is timings. We called to enquire about lunch and they said it’ll be open at 11 (as per the Zomato app and google), we got there and they said to wait for 15 mins and after 15 mins they said they can’t serve us till 11:45 as the chef didn’t turn up. We were basically told to wait and then told to go. Surprising how chef can be a late. Not a way to do business.

My husband and I are visiting Auckland for 3 days and we’ve been here twice already! Came across Sunflower Thai on happy cow, and I’m glad I did! The faux chicken is so tasty and juicy! And the dressing they put on top of it and the salad, yum! Pad Thai (not in photo) is also great! Sweet, tasty and tangy, just how they make it in Thailand!Great balance. Generous servings, awesome and friendly staff. Central location. Probably the best d*mn faux chicken I’ve had. I’ve tried many, and you guys are the real deal!

12/7/2018 lunch, try to support vegetarian restaurant.
I just walk in and ask a fried noodles and chickens, $14.50.
Then I sit and wait, the environment is dark, not enough light I think.
Then, the meal comes, just like the picture I take, it a small dishes, tasteless and it not even fried!
Why it call fried noodle if it doesn't fried at all?

Food is amazing. One of the best thai places I've visited. Their spicy fried chicken(vegan) is so good and one of my favoirite is the fried chicken with peanut sauce. The staff are nice and the menu is very has a wide range of options.
I'm Hungry
This place is a treat for vegans - must go. They have a huge selection of vegan dishes. We ordered spicy chicken, pancakes, green curry, pad Thai and curry puffs. The pad Thai was the best. My vegetarian friends loved the food, non vegetarians found it average. Staff was very friendly and helpful, place gets packed very quickly.
Vegesaur
The most incredible vegetarian restaurant you will ever eat at! I usually hate vegetarian restaurants because they try too hard to be 'alternative', however this place is amazing! It might be small but it sure is mighty! Delicious food, huge menu, all vegetarian! Also bonus of being super cheap! My meaty bf and friends also love the food here! My fave food is the crispy chicken and also green curry! Go there!! You won't be sorry! I wish I could win lotto to buy them a bigger space! Wish they did delivery again too!! So amazing!!

I love it here. The massamun curry, and fried chicken are my absolute favourites! The food here is so good I always have to question that it’s actually all vegan. Would highly highly recommend giving it a try. Great value for money too, left full, content and did not break the bank.
Sara Sergejew
I'm probably a little biased because I am vegan. This place is wonderful. Cheap and cheerful, but very clean and quiet. The menu is extensive and the dishes are lovely, some with meat substitutes I have never come accross before. The sevice is wonderful and friendly. It isn't obvious to locate from the street, but this also means that it serves as a quiet escape from the bustle of the city outside. It is very affordable and there is a small bathroom, although there is no baby changing table that I could see. I highly recommend this place.
Sam
One of our favorite places to eat. I'm not a vegetarian so was a little skeptical the first time we came, but everything we've tried so far is delicious. Our go to meals are the chicken w/peanut sauce, green curry, curry puffs, dumplings, dumpling soup. All amazing, and great value for money. Also the staff are very nice. Highly recommend eating here.
Purpledonnamode
100% vegan so it gets a 5 from me. Friendly service and a vast range of delicious things to choose from ranging from soups, rice dishes and noodle dishes. The mock meats are yummy as are the tofu based dishes.
Aimee.
Amazing place. Everything on the menu is vegan and vegetarian. They are extremely creative with the way they make their “meat” and it’s realistic. The fried “chicken” tastes exactly like actual fried chicken. Cheap prices for generous, tasty portions.
Jess West
The crispy "chicken" is delicious and their curries are yum. Their burgers are also very tasty. My partner loves their dumplings and sour n spicy soup. I really need to try more things on the menu...
Ajay Gargi
Awesome place. Great pad Thai. Would recommend taking a group of people as you can split and share lot of food. they have a lot of good gluten free options. Would highly recommend for all vegans and vegetarians as every dish we got was good except the Plum tea
Chirag Sharma
Good and healthy food. Service was fast and food was under our budget. They use soy product instead of actual meat products with is really great for vegetarian.
Haden
I've been Vegetarian for a month and missing chicken badly. This place does a really good "chicken" satay which has really helped me cope with the loss of chicken in my life. The other dishes I have had are the spicy chicken and the sesame bread, both of which are good. I also adore they give you a salad on the side. My only negative is the staff aren't very friendly, they're not rude though.
Chris St Bruno
Very tasty, value for money & friendly helpful staff. Will definitely return. Had the Tom Kha Gai will was beautiful fragrant followed by the Musmun curry. Way yummy as!!! Will have to eat my way through the menu
Justine Barnett
Hands down one of my favourite restaurants. Massive menu, the dishes never disappoint and the service is always excellent. I would visit again and again just for the dumplings and green curry.
Emily
Got the dumpling soup and it was just so gross I couldn't even finish it. was so flavourless and was pretty much just got water with gross dumplings in it? not to happy but will come back here again and try something a lot different.

Ever since I went vegetarian I've heard recommendations to try out this place.
Synflower Thai Vegetarian Restaurant is located on Queen St. It's truly a hidden gem. I swear I've walked pass the place countless times and never realizdd it existed.

The food is amazing. The whole place is Vegetarian with vegan options too. There's a large variety of protein options not just your typical tofu. I ordered the rice with crispy chicken and the smoked peach tea to drink.

I was extremely perplexed when I received my meal. After I took my first bite. I had to make my friend try some of my chicken. I couldn't believe that it wasn't real meat. The faux meat was super crispy and had the same stringy texture. It was delicious and mind-boggling at the same time. It tasted delicious, moist and had some much flavour. The tea was so interesting. I normally find teas to smell nicer than they taste, but this tea had body. The smokiness was a unique note and addictive.

The only reason why I didn't rate this place a full 5 was due to the serve. The waitress was inattentive and abrupt. And the restaurant lacked ambience. But I would highly recommend this place, especially if you're looking for a fast, value vegetaran meal in The city.
Khaleesi
Since this is the only Thai vegan restaurant in Auckland it gets full stars! Not only that but being close to AT carpark makes this place easily accessible when coming into CBD. I love that I dont have to worry about what I order. My favourites are the curry puffs and crispy chicken. Staff are friendly.
Ian Pann
good service with friendly staffs, didnt have to wait too long for my rice with crispy chicken and stirred fried veges, which was scrumptious. overall, everything tasted great and would still go back to try the other vegetarian dishes
Claudia
The best fake meat I've ever had! The texture and flavour was perfection. Fishcakes are a must. Friend had the chicken in peanut sauce which lived up to expectations and I had the pad Thai which had a bit too much tamarind so was overpoweringly strong/sour. Other than that it was a delight and I will most definitely be back (even though I'm not vegetarian)!
Smharpz
This place is so good. So good to not be restricted on what you can have at a Thai place. Food is delicious. The "chicken" is delicious. Get the peanut chicken, curry puffs, pad Thai!
EarnesTaster
For converted vegetarians suffering from meaty pangs, this place will offer some quantums of solace. Imitation meats ingeniously made from tofu variants stock up the generous menu. The joint however is strictly for casual meals only as the decor comprises a basic low-maintenance set-up set deep inside a cluster of shops. The noise levels can steeply rise while windows and air both become phantoms.

The place shuts shop at 9 pm - another downer but the novelty of the food almost makes up. Though not fans of sweet gravies , we still ordered 'chicken in peanut sauce' as many patrons had praised this. The protein was fried and we were amazed how it approximated the texture of fried meat - in a robustly savoury gravy , this would have truly rocked! "Fish" was even more successful - they cut the imitation protein in perfect streamlined shape and a seaweed influence gave those slices an automatic marine flavour. What's more, the fiber of the "fish", especially when it was taken apart, had an uncanny resemblance to actual fish flaking apart. They've already done a lot in this dish - so they're excused for not acomplishing the full miracle of 100% fish flavour.

Chicken fried rice was entirely palatable but the seasoning lacked the subtly infinite zing of truly great fried rice, moreover the "chicken" was a little limp both in flavour and feel. "Steak" and noodles with vegetables was a substantial affair. The peppery slices tasted a lot like ham, and the egg noodles thankfully had a whisper of al dente flavour to them. Overall, the stuffy tacky atmosphere certainly does not tempt one, but I'm certainly game for a return trip to see what other tricks they can pull with their meat simulations.

Love this place even though its quite hidden. I used to not like vegetarian food, but if all vegetarian food is like this, I don’t mind becoming a vegetarian myself.

A repeat customer - service is always great and food is always good.

My favourites are the chicken peanut sauce and rice with spicy chicken. Texture and taste is exactly like a normal chicken - have no idea how they make it. The only concern is that it’s a little bit pricey.

I am not a vegetarian, but surprising tasteful meals. In the past three weeks, I have dined their three times and haven't been disappointed with the service nor the meals. I have taken my child here and she loves the Chicken Burger, (tofu, redbean patty). She loved it and wants to come again.
HJ
This place is perfect for vegetarians that love Asian food. My partner and I visited for dinner on Saturday night and it was surprisingly quite busy. The decor isn’t anything fancy but the place is clean and tidy. The menu is the biggest I have seen for vegetarian options. They have a great variety including an assortment of vegetarian meats. We ordered the deep fried salt/pepper tofu starter, fried noodle, tofu and vege and the stir fry tofu & vege with chilli & ginger. All the dishes tasted fresh and clean and although they weren’t the best we’ve had they will still good! Worth checking out if your vegetarian

Sunflower is by no means a flashy, high-end joint kitted out with the usual cacti-laden, wooden-stooled niceties. On the contrary, its slightly worn decor is homely and charming, which is not something I can say for most of the other inner-city eateries I have visited. I've stopped by perhaps a dozen times, and each time I find something more to love about the place.

For starters, all of their food is vegan AND delicious. No stringy salads or rubbery roast vegetables in sight - this is dairy, meat, and egg free comfort food at its finest. Their red curry, pad thai, and peanut butter chicken are the best meals I've sunk my teeth into thus far, but no doubt their extensive menu has many other treasures lurking within. As for ambience, it's not anything startling but it retains a kind of charm nonetheless. Despite the fact that you are literally in the bowels of the building with not a window in sight, it manages to maintain an airy feel (perhaps due to the absence of any overwhelming food-stench). Always clean, always warm, and always peaceful.

The prices are very comparable to most of the other rice-and-veggies spots peppered around high street, and the service is polite and quiet. I really do enjoy Sunflower, and think that even those who love their meat would too!

Food: 4.5/5
Service: 5/5
Value: 4/5

This place is amazing ! All vegetarians and non vegetarians but looking for good natural hearty ethical food should come here and try them out!

The place is simple, nothing fancy, but service was excellent. The staffs there were friendly, attentive and efficient.

We ordered the fried dumplings, simply ingredients but soooo tasty! The chicken burger was delicious! It's amazing how tasty that soy patty can be and the burger is very satisfying. The sunflower noodle is exactly what l felt like. It's got this simple but hearty , it's full of flavour , those soy balls and tulips are off the hook!

Their menu is exciting and lots of options. We can't wait to go back and try everything!?
Paris Jenkins
A must for vegetarians. The food is tasty and cheap. I ordered the vegetarian pad thai and will definitely be coming back. The decor is slightly old, however it doesn't matter because the food is good.
John He
We come here all the time because the food is simply delicious, at an affordable price and we never have to wait too long. Almost have tried everything on the menu and most of the food is delicious.
Even though it's hard to pin point a best dish, I'd recommend anyone try the dishes for themselves to find their own favourite as the diversity promises something for everyone. Personally, we have settled for the red curry and the peanut butter chicken on rice -- both delicious dishes but the red curry has to be the best curry that we have ever tried.
Simply put: the texture, taste and balance of flavours not only shines as an amazing thai curry but just takes the gold in the categories of all curries. Highly Recommended! Put this one on your bucket list!
Ram Vaidyanathan
Don't be fooled by the dishes on the menu, this place is totally vegetarian! And it's delicious. They make their 'meat' using tofu and apparently it tastes close to the real thing.

I had cashew chicken which is, as per the staff, very popular. It was served with rice and didn't disappoint though it was on the sweeter side. The pad Thai was good too from what little I tried.

The ambience is quiet and relaxed. The place is easy on your budget. A good place for vegetarians to go to right in the heart of Auckland.
Jack Smith
The food is 10/10, visit here often to try new things on the menu! lots of variety, food tastes good!!
the pad thai is highly recommended!!!
Jazz
We went there for lunch. It was delicious! This place has so many vegetarian options to choose from, you would have to go many times to try them all. The service was great and the food looked and tasted amazing! Definitely worth every cent! Will defs go again :)
Ryan Wong
Came here with a vegetarian friend and really found the food here to taste great. Good place for meeting up and having a lunch and tea! Will be coming be here again for sure
Freya Burnett
My sister took me here last weekend, we got dumplings, satay peanut "chicken" and tofu pad thai everthing was soooo yum and all vegan, will defiantly be back !!!!
Saffron Clark
Went for dinner last night after many years of meaning to and was so glad I finally did! I went with 3 meat eating friends and we ordered for the table and shared everything - it was delicious! Everything fresh and tasted so good. We will all definitely be back, many times! Thanks so much.
Heidi Chapman
I'm not even vegan but this is a pretty good place. Very good customer service and the meal portions are huge. There are so many different options and the "meat" actually tastes like meat. While I had a tofu burger I took some of my friend's "fish". While there was so much vegetable to get through the tofu once I got to it was amazing. Top quality vegan food.
Hung Quoc Bui
Oh man, first time ever tried vegan meat taste like real meat. The food is 10/10. Will b back there again for vegetarian meals. These guys are extremely busy so make sure you arrive early or book before hand. This is a quite small restaurant so don't expect do receive a high class service. U will need to arrange your table and chairs. If you aren't quick, someone will take up ur seats while you are ordering at the counter

Had Lunch again on 4 Oct 2018 (and many more times since last time!)
Their Thai red curry is out of the world tasty! I wish i had that recipe! thank u sunflower! I have introduced another friend!

Dined here on 19 April 2017.
Delicious food. Pad thai highly recommended.
But they had ryn out of usual tofu and used another type instead. We did not like the texture. They should have said so whilst they took orders.
U will go back for vegam fish n chips :)

April 2016
Went to Sunflower on my birthday this week. Awesome once again. 3 families, ordered entre & mains, paid under $120. Tasty food again. Felt like portion size has reduced a tiny bit, but still more than enough for 1 person - Sept 2016.

One of my FAVOURITE places. The other fav is in wellington lol. My fruends and family love it! Excellent food. Moderate to large portion, can order 3 dishes between 4 people easily. Superb service and food just Amazing each time. Very reasonably priced. Clean toilets. I would consider eating out everyday if i worked closer to this place!

Our favorite Thai restaurant in the area.

Being a vegetarian when going to restaurants my options are very often limited. This place is perfect. Everything is vegan and cooked to perfection. Our pad Thai, green curry, and peanut curry were very authentic and flavorful. Even my husband, who is normally the biggest meat lover did not miss the meat at all! Also recommend their sesame pancakes as entree.

I can foresee us visiting and doing a lot more takeaway from this place in the future ;)
Ana Vegan Foodie
Extremely delicious and sumptuous vegan food....a food heaven....every dish is yummy. All food is free from violence. The staff is extremely friendly. Highly recommend them...
Daisy Hsu
I don't usually eat vegetarian, but came here with a group and don't regret it at all! I ordered the green curry ($14.50), and it was really nice. The sauce was creamy and not too spicy, and there were heaps of veggies. The vegetarian meat was really nice too! The food took a while, but that was understandable as we came in a large group.
Wendy Cheung
This is a great vegetarian cafe. Great customer service. And tasty foods. I love it and will definitely come back again. The sunflower cafe noodle soup is yummy. My husband ordered eggplant with chili and basil with rice, which is beautiful. We also ordered the pan fried dumplings, so tasty.
Purita Mok
I have always enjoyed coming to Sunflower because they have friendly staff and quite a homey setting to eat at. There are so many options and the price isnt expensive. I especially enjoy the noodles and dumplings!
Neyotalks
Love their Pad Thai vegetarian noodles (38). It's my all time favorite. The place is good to get a takeaway as the inside is incredibly hot with no aircondition. They do good prices with resonable serving size. I would visit them soon when I am near queen street.
G
Ordered a pad Thai and didn't like it at all. Didn't taste authentic, in fact didn't taste like anything except for overpowering sweetness. In fact it was gross and if I weren't hungry, I probably wouldn't have eaten more than a bite but even in my famished state, I could only manage half.
Vanshikha Singh
Straight up vegetarian junk and comfort food! Delicious dumplings and all foods
Are at an affordable price! The restaurant itself is very simplistic but still great food!!
Rebecca
Not the place to come on a diet but if you're looking for a cheap weekend dinner with friends then I highly recommend going to Sunflower. I'm not usually a fan of fake meat but the "chicken" was really good.
Sandy Crookes
I've only been once, I was told by a few online that the vegan dumplings were delicious. They weren't wrong! I had the steamed dumplings and smoked tofu. My purchase was a take away option as my time that day was limited.
Both dishes were delicious.
The interior is simple and clean. I will return again, though next time I will eat in. I really enjoyed the food and the service was lovely. Thank you.
Coz I Can
Terrible food . Food was under seasoned. My partner is Vegan and he wasnt very impressed. The decor is dated and needs a revamp but that wasnt my issue. Its the food that lets this place down. The service is perfect though. The ladies were very kind and so lovely.

UPDATED: Before I gave it a 2 now Im giving it a 4.5 as I had an AMAZING Chicken Stirfry from there.
Jimmy Price
Really, really loved it. Cheap, delicious, nice environment and fantastic, fast service. And im not even big on vegetarian. A+ can't wait to go again.
Jasmine Graham
I love their food. The crispy chicken is my favourite and the customer service is always on point. My favourite place to go in the city as I'm vegetarian. The food is so realistic, it looks like the real deal and some of the food even tastes like the real thing. Two thumbs up
T A
Nice food. No doubt about that. They still need to work on customer service. I had pad Thai and it was super yummy.. good vegetarian Thai food.
A
I'm usually obsessed with soy meat and thought this place would be my jam, but it was just too greasy and I felt so ill after. I do want to give it another chance but I am gonna ask for minimal oil!
Claudia Serra
Plain and basic interior, but the food has always been very good and it is the perfect place to come for a cheap and cheerful vegetarian meal :) staff are friendly and food is brought out quite quickly which is great. Their curry puffs are my favourite!
Rabi Hassan
Genuine tasting Thai, great restaurant and good value for money. Plus were able to do almost everything VEGAN. Definitely scored points with my girlfriend so I'd be coming back !
Grace Brebner
Sunflower thai is amazing.
If you're vege, go.
If you eat meat, go.
If you're human, go.

I guess I love this place so much because theres no way you could miss meat when eating here, and i say, if you could have an equally enjoyable meal without having to put meat in it, why would you want to?

I'm currently working my way down the menu!
Jessia
I visited a while ago and was really impressed with the variety of vegan food, it's super creative and really exciting for vegans with limited dining options. The pricing was amazing as well, you really get more than you would think. I recommended my friends go along with me but while looking at the menu online they discover the place had a D health rating which was quite shocking, if I'm right anything lower than that is a fail. I went back last night with friends and the health grade rating was nowhere in sight, after a couple of minutes we saw it was hidden behind several other pieces of paper and the letter of grading was covered. I'm pretty sure it's mandatory to ensure health grades are visible to diners. We didn't eat there because of this, hopefully it was just a mistake of not knowing to present it correctly but with the D history we just weren't comfortable eating there.
Nadia Fitzsimmons
Delicious vegan food which doesn't taste vegan at all! Affordable too. I would highly recommend this place to any vegan and non vegan alike. 5 stars
James Costan
The place was small but it was nice and gives off a homely vibe, which is good. The staff that served me was so friendly and thoughtful. Service is 5/5

The food is great! I loved it. I ordered the chicken and vegetable rice. And they were cooked nice but I felt like it would have needed more seasoning but nonetheless it still taste great.
Ming Yee Leong
Wide range of products and it's all vegetarian friendly. My partner and I always come for lunch and dinner. Love this place . recommended : )
Sushmitha D
Love this place! Being vegetarian my ability to taste good Asian food was really very limited until I stumbled onto this gem! I've tried a bunch of things here at they all have an amazingly authentic feel with the fried noodles with Veges being my personal favourite! You really wouldn't expect this restaurant to be so good at first glance but it's a definite winner for me !
Sophia O-W
I've been here a few times now, and everytime I order something different they never disappoint! The service is quick and friendly, the portion sizes are generous and can be shared, they are great with big groups and food is out in a good space of time. Don't let the fake meat throw you off, because it's delicious. Even if it may not have the consistency of meat, its an experience for meat eaters to enjoy authentic vegetarian asian cuisine and for vegetarians/vegans to feel like home! They also give the option to have brown/mixed rice over white rice if you need. What is there not to like about this place? I would definitely reccomend to try their eggplant dishes (with 'fish'), spicy chicken, red curry, and hot and spicy soup. Those are all definitely my go-tos. Be brave and try something different! This place is great :)
Daniel
Sunflower shows that vegetarian food can be just as satisfying as non-vegetarian food. The menu is as extensive as any restaurant needs. The dumplings and curry puffs were extremely tasty and quickly disappeared. The service was friendly and the mains were out soon after. I tried the well spiced red curry that was filled with eggplant chunks, peppers and other veges along with what I'm sure were seitan strips that added some comforting texture to the dish.

This place is great for people to take their vegetarian/vegan friends or vice versa and makes vegetarian foods more accessible to the general public.
Veganista
Absolutely delicious! There are so many options to choose from, so I ended up ordering a lot of food. I love that there were Western food choices as well as Thai. My meat-eating partner was very impressed too. Very reasonably priced. Nom!
Nitya Lakshmanan
Had very high expectations for this restaurant and the restaurant did live up to those expectations. Amazing food. Really hard to find vegetarian Thai restaurants in the city so being a vegetarian I was really happy when I came across this restaurant. Really enjoy the food and the service is lovely.
Christine Cross
Went there last night and have been going there for a couple of years now. Has always managed to satisfy my taste buds. One of my favourite vegan Asian places to eat!
Foodiegirlnz
Best vegetarian restaurant in Auckland, hands down. Lovely cook, friendly people. I tried your soup noodles, crispy chicken rice all amazing

Superb food and services. Love the taste. Well worth the travel/ trip into the city.
Felt great after eTing and light. Sauces are great. Fish & eggplant & red curry was da bomb. Affordable prices

The red curry with tofu is excellent as are the fresh juices!

I am a meat eater and I love it, but I can also appreciate people that don't eat meat. I came here because last time my friend brought me here it was mind blowing. The menu seems odd because it written like it has meat in it.

We ordered fried dumplings and it was perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside. It was hard to tell what was into because on the menu it doesn't tell you too much. Then I had the fried chicken with salad and rice. I loved it just as much as the first time. Very well seasoned and very crispy. If I was a vego and I ate food like this I would be a happy man.

Bottom line this place may look weird and the music is random, but do not judge the book by its cover the food there is awesome. I will definitely tell all my friends for sure.

Quite reluctant to go to this restaurant initially as I am a HUGE meat eater. The location was easy to find, though the doors had to be opened from the inside and was kept shut when I arrived - so I was unsure for a while whether the restaurant was even open.

After getting through that little hurdle we were seated and ordered the spicy "chicken" with rice and salad. If you do not know from the menu, this restaurant boasts no meat, meat. The food arrived 20 minutes later.

I found the meal quite satisfying. The portion size was large and more than enough for 1 person. Also an extremely reasonable price at $12.50. I feel that the meal did get quite sickening at the end, and suggest you might want to share meals.
Overall a lovely place.
Trazy Lata
The food was great affordable it was $18 per person we ordered kebabs, dumplings, peanut sauce chicken, spicy chicken and fried noodles with chicken... Yummy and the food came out at a very reasonable time! Need less to say that we were super stuffed!! #veg #vegan #yum #affordable
Anneka Fane
I really like this place, their staff are very friendly and helpful every time I go in, the food is absolutely delicious and all vegan friendly. Only thing I'm curious about is that I noticed they have a D rating which is very low and I believe one grade away from being shut down. While the food always seems perfect to me, this does raise concerns and it'd be great to see that improve to an A.
Daniel
This is probably the best vegan restaurant I have ever tried! Not only for the quality and presentation of the meals, (I couldn't say which one is my favourite, most of them are just delicious!) but for the smile and kindness of all the staff too!
Even if you are not vegan or vegetarian and just looking for good food at good price, you should definitely try it...I am sure you would never imagine vegan food may be so yummy!!! Finally here is a restaurant that offers a great range of dishes for us vegans (and vegetarians), not just a helping of steamed broccoli, as other restaurants do priding themselves of having vegetarian options. The Sunflower spoils you for choice and I intend to sample every dish on the extensive menu. So far everything I ate here was delicious, fresh and wonderfully spiced. And the meals are reasonably priced as well ! Thank you Sunflower !
Janta
Excellent, tasty, fresh food and friendly service!
I've been there three times now when I've visited Auckland, and I will be back there next time.
Try their ginger and orange juice (I can't remember the exact name) and their spring rolls. I can't remember the names of the mains I had, but I had different ones each time and I enjoyed them all.
Great food for a good price.

2016: Still hands down the best vegetarian place I have probably ever gone to. Delicious food and fabulous service. My boyfriend and I have regular things we buy but there are so many yummy options.
2014: I went here today and it was awesome! I've been a vegetarian for about four years, and I honestly haven't had a better vegetarian meal ... I haven't eaten such nice food in... a long time! I had the satay chicken on rice. I often struggle to finish a meal... but I was so full and couldn't stop eating... because it was delicious! My boyfriend got the chicken pad thai which was also amazing. The staff are all really polite and happy. They aren't overly friendly, and just let you enjoy the meal - but if they see you, they always smile. My boyfriend and I can't rave about this place enough! Go here :) Also, the prices are very reasonable for what you get!

This is a great place to eat dinner before going to see Wolf of Wall Street. It is cheap and delicious and coincidentally 100% vegetarian even though it tastes like delicious fried chicken.

The looped DVD that plays in store is very cute and entertaining - I highly recommend ! You can eat for under $20 easy and it's delicious.

Good place to come if you are in a group and some people are vegan or something but you have some other people who are really into MEAT.

My friend and I just had a great lunch here. Vegans and vegetarians are completely spoilt for choice. Excellent vegetarian food and good service. Fully recommended. It's a wonderful vegetarian restaurant with a wide selection of dishes. The food is tasty with lots of variety and good prices

My friend and I just had a great lunch here - we had the melt-in-your-mouth flaky pastry awesome curry puffs - which I could eat ALL DAY, the super-tasty money bags and soft delicious dumplings. The staff were nice and the food was fresh and so good I can't wait to go back and try a main! maybe next week!!! :)

AMAZING food. Vegans and vegetarians are completely spoilt for choice - for once! Cheap (for Auckland / High Street), tasty, and big portions! I love being able to have a meal with friends where I can actually share/taste what they are having. Friendly, laid back staff, cosy atmosphere.

I eat here a lot and am always really happy with the service and selection. I don't know why they are trying to re-brand as Thai - I really like the Chinese options and I have these 99% of the time.
They are obviously very supportive of vegan diets and it's always good to know your meal is safe from contamination!
Highly recommend for a cheap and tasty meal - even better with friends when you can share the meal.
It can get quite busy some lunch times and the service can get really slow, but I can't really blame them for that - it doesn't happen often.

Some of the best (authentic) Thai and vegan/vegetarian food I have ever had and I have tried tons all over the world. Made with a lot of care, perfectly good and balanced. Everything we ordered was delicious, the service was super friendly. Healthy with big portions. Highly recommend the appetisers (dumplings, curry puffs), burgers, the curries and mixed vegetables. Cannot wait to go back.

AMAZING vegan food, so many options. We ordered too much food but didn't regret it at all. Everything blew our mind, super nice people, clean and generous portions. You're missing out if you don't give this place a try, even if you're not vegetarian or vegan. We can't wait to go back tomorrow.

Went for the first time today for lunch and I already want to be back there now it's dinner time.
I had the 'Soy duck with rice and veges'.
We ordered dumplings for the table and Oh my goodness - talk about guilt-free comfort food! Best things ever!
My daughter who is not vegetarian, loved her 'Crispy pork, rice and vegetables'.
I was very tempted to try the dumpling soup so will be back for that in Winter.
The fish cakes with amazing dipping sauce were great (not "fishy" tasting) and my friends' bacon/chicken burgers looked amazing and were well received. Lovely service. Cheap, cheerful and delicious.

Went here a while back when they were doing a voucher deal and keep meaning to go back. I was really impressed with the food and my partner, a non-vegetarian, enjoyed it as well. Would recommend the fish cakes!

Brilliant vege restaurant! Great for me as my partner is vege and I am not. Fulfills all those meat cravings without the meat. Such a good restaurant, great prices, great portion sizes and friendly and fast service. 11/10!

It is now our favourite and we go for every occasion

I'm becoming addicted to this restaurant. I've eaten here once a week for the past month, and twice this week! I'm also buying take aways to bring home for dinner for my family. It's the BEST! The food is excellent, the staff are genuinely friendly, the prices are very reasonable. My favourites are the thai 'fish' cakes (which don't taste fishy, and have a secret dipping sauce which is delicious), and the spicy 'chicken'... all cruelty-free, of course. I have brought a different friend each week to introduce them to this great eatery. I highly recommend the Sunflower Thai restaurant.

This place is amazing. If all vegetarian food was like this it'd be easy to never eat meat again. Huge portions, friendly service and delicious food. Perfection in my eyes (and stomach). Try the crispy chicken, standout dish by far.

Great portion size, tasty food, great prices! The service is fantastic. I have been here multiple times and have not yet been disappointed. The food is very safe and the "vege meat" tastes as good/ even better than real meat. Highly recommend!

So glad I found this lovely vegetarian restaurant. Like other reviews found very few vegetarian options in the Auckland CBD so SunflowerThai was a very welcome surprise. Delicious food, and great selection of vegetarian Thai. Friendly service. Definitely be back for more steamed dumplings!

Very friendly staff, awesome food, huge variety and great prices. No meat served so really safe place for Vegans to eat without having to worry about how careful and respectful the chef is of strict vegan requirements. Two of us were not even Vegetarian but we still totally enjoyed the food. Environment is casual and relaxed. Will defiantly become a regular!
Limited drinks menu and no deserts but the strengths made this still a 5 star place for Vege/Vegans :)

It's an excellent choice for Vegans/Vegetarians, Wide range of varieties to choose. Its my regular place for lunch as it is located at convenient location and delivers awesome food. Service is good and we get food on time.

this place is now my go to vegetarian eating house in the city. If your a vegetarian you know there are not a lot of options in the CBD so am happy to have discovered Sunflower.
Staff are really sweet and helpful, food has great flavours and lots of veges and lots of variety. Prices are very reasonable too.I hope they do very well and continue be around for a long time.

We go back here all the time! The food is of very good quality. I am a vegetarian and I feel pretty good considering the varied amount of choices available for me to eat. The food is homely, the staff are kind and friendly and the pan fried dumplings are super yummy :-) Thanks for feeding us good food over and over again :-)

I'm vegan and eat here regularly. Friendly staff and great food at fair prices. Most restaurants in Auckland have no idea what veganism is, so finding this place with their 'no animals product' policy is a joy.

Food is very tasty. Price is affordable. Will definitely go back again!! The staff is very friendly when questions are asked. The location is central, so needs time and luck to find free carpark but if you don't mind pay and display, you will enjoy the time and the meal even more. Definitely recommend the restaurant!!

Very hard to fault this place n any way. The staff is very friendly, the food is great (try the dumplings). The food always arrives very quickly. It's a hidden away gem in the centre of Auckland. We always stop here if we are going to a gig in town. Highly recommended.

Had a lunch today with my friends. Nice food and I will highly recommend. Lots of variety and it's really heaven for Vegetarians.
One thing I missed is "Thai Roti". If they add that in their menu it will be wonderful.

Definitely coming back with family.

Amazing vegetarian food.

Sunflower offers a wife variety of starters, ranging from dumplings to Thai fish cakes and even the traditional Chinese hot pancakes.

As for mains, they adopt a more order personal dishes than share on the table. Unless you have a big party as their bigger options are for sharing. But nonetheless good quality of food, with excellent quantity of food. The authenticity of the Thai dishes have been tested by people from Thailand and they really said it tasted like home. The authenticity of the Chinese dishes have been around for a long time!

A must visit restaurant for all South East Asians who are vegetarians.

I used to love Sunflower. A 100% vegan place with no garlic or onion used either. The food was good and very very cheap. $8 for a standard meal, and big portions. The staff are friendly and it was always the go to for me and a couple of people. However, last time that we went, the health inspector was there and we overheard some not so great stuff. I'm hoping they have taken what she said into consideration and upped their game because this was a really cool place and great for vegans.

Sunflower is a vegetarian restaurant that boasts no MSG involved. Healthy is always something to appreciate a restaurant for, and to be honest usually healthy truly tastes better. I like fresh tasting dishes in general, I guess. I had a real struggle trying to come try this place for dinner, because I kept encountering it being randomly closed or beyond its opening hours as noted on the restaurant door, so I was glad to finally get here.

Soup noodle with veges and tofu and chicken ($12) is my selection. It's super busy in here, with many office workers taking away food for dinner, a bit of a wait for the tables and a long, long wait for food. It took over half an hour for us to get our dishes. On the bright side, that at least means they're not hastily churning out food or adopting a policy of quick reheating.

The chips seems wildly popular with the customers here.

The noodles come in an incredibly opaque soup with some red drizzles of sauce in the soup. I still don't know what that sauce is, but it didn't really add any flavour as far as I know and it was just off putting because it made the soup even darker and murkier once I'd mixed the noodles around a bit. There was plenty of veges, like cabbage and carrots and whatnot, which were okay but not incredibly fresh or flavourful. The murky soup made the bowl of noodles seem absolutely endless. You definitely fill up with just one dish. I also noted that the bamboo shoots definitely tasted canned. Not so sure about the no MSG claim and whether other stuff might be present in the dish. I'm very wary about canned bamboo shoots, generally the stuff has been steeped in all sorts of nasty chemicals and taste nothing like proper fresh bamboo shoots. These ones did have good texture though.

I think the main surprise for me was the "meat" (it's not meat, this is a vegetarian restaurant). When it said "tofu & chicken", I guess i expected tofu chunks and some vegetarian chicken? But it turns out to be sliced tofu chicken. Like it's a blend of tofu and vegetarian chicken I'm guessing, kind of like the tofu fish you can have in Asian hotpots. It does have a good texture and a bit of tofu taste, no hint of chicken in my opinion though. They're drizzled with a light sesame sauce which was quite nice, although I thought too much sauces then came into play with the noodles as it got mixed up with the mysterious red sauce from before and the already strong broth.

I love the concept of a vegetarian no-MSG restaurant and the dishes all sound nommy, but the food wasn't quite at the level I was expecting. Still a good eatery which is very popular with the city-based workers, no doubt because of its fuss-free healthiness and convenient location.
