Review De Grand Thai Restaurant And Bar - Auckland Central

Michela Zanata
Best Thai in Auckland. Lovely service, amazing food, on the more pricey end of the spectrum, but absolutely worth it for a special occasion and a top notch and authentic experience. Loved the Thai Green Curry, smooth and tasty.

Been here before many times but that was over 7 years ago. Came here for dinner wanting to try their deep fried whole snapper with thai sweet chili sauce which is our favourite Thai dish. We also had the soft shell crab appetiser. The crab was beyond my expectation as most soft shell crab normally is cooked from frozen but they did well to fry it and the sauce was sweet, tangy and really is the perfect start. The main was the fish which was filleted for us and serves on top of the bones. The fish was fried lightly battered and the sauce was the best I have had for this dish. The sauce had little bits of courgette and baby corn which added volume and was very appetizing and flavourful to go with the rice. We also had the banana chocolate spring roll with ice cream for dessert which was lovely as well and was good ending to the meal. Service was quite funny, it was generally good but the wait staff normally don't face the direction of diners so I think not trained very well or at all. They also have almost zero knowledge of their own menu but at least they go around refilling water which was good. Overall, superb meal. One of the best Thai food in Auckland.

Nice and yummy Thai dish. The ingredients are fresh, good quality. Staffs are polite and friendly. Beautiful decor. Very clean and tidy.

Food was amazing and staffs were friendly! The only problem was we ordered too much as food were too damn good but eventually managed to finish all! Will go back again.

Best Thai place in Auckland, beautiful ambience and taste and quality never fail to impress us.. always our go to place .. had our elder son’s 9th birthday celebration with lovely surprise from the team and manager Lynn ☺️

We’ve been to Thailand many times and love our Thai food. This was by far the best Thai food we have ever experienced! Very reasonable prices, great service and authentic classy Thai ambience. We were in a motel nearby for two nights and went here both nights! BYOW as well. Everything we had was fabulous but the Chicken panang curry especially to die for.

Apart from the loud echoey room food and service was great

Nice evening, good atmosphere and great service. Food was delicious and well flavoured. For those who want it spicy they can make it so, but for the rest of us the standard is full of flavour and you get to enjoy the meals. I'd come again to try the rest of the menu!

Amazing food. It tastes absolutely delicious. Beautiful presentation as well. The interior of the restaurant is very nice. The staff is friendly, positive and helpful. I strongly recommend their De Grand Noodles. The prices are also reasonable. Nothing too expensive. I highly recommend this restaurant especially if you like Thai food.

Celebrated birthday. Service was exemplary. I can recommend De Grande for celebration as well just going for a meal or takeaway. The lady who served us was too good. Each and every dish was delicious.

Lovely place. We never planned to go there as we were looking for good restaurant around Cornwall Park. However, next time it will be definitely planned. The place is spacious, super clean with very warm welcome from staff. The menu is diversified and fairly priced. The most important is that food was really yummy. It is very friendly for families and even dates. We ordered Thai Fried Rice and Tom Yum Noodles Soup, and both were winners. We will visit again for sure.

Came by for dinner around 2000 and it wasn't too busy so we were able to get a table in the back. It was still quite busy at this time though. The place has a nice feel to it, classy and well-placed decorations around the place without it being too overwhelming. My friend really liked the chandelier in the rear dining area. After being seated we ordered when we were ready. Although quite busy it wasn't hard to get the attention of the waitress. The duck curry looked good but the sauce was a bit thinner than other places. The sizzling vegetables were ok, the sauce was a bit too sweet and sour for me. The food is cooked well and there is a decent portion. The service is also quite good. We were able to get multiple servings of rice without too much effort. The water glasses were also kept toppped up, even late in the night. A good option for Thai food.

What a place to have a feed. This is more than a restaurant for me but more of an authentic experience. The facilities are clean and fresh and are spot on and all in the Thai theme. The food is just incredible. My highlight was most definitely the yellow curry however each dish was just delicious. The staff go above and beyond to ensure you time there is memorable. We told the staff it wasy wife's birthday and after the meal they brought our an amazing looking ice cream dessert. Which was delicious of course. This place has the feeling of fine dining and delivers include food full of flavour. If you haven't tried it do yourself a favor and make sure you do. Highly recommend!

What an amazing Christmas Eve dinner at De Grand. First time here and we were not disappointed. We were a huge group of 25 and we were very well looked after. We had pre-booked our meals, so it was a breeze and the service was spot on. Thanks to our server Park. The food was amazing. Flavours and textures were amazing. The decor and interior settings were fantastic as well. We will definitely be back. Thank you De Grand.

Was delicious and the service was excellent.!! Thank you 🙏🏽

Never been to this restaurant before but was recommended by a friend. It was a public holiday and they opened for us. The service was amazing, the food was absolutely delicious. There was nothing I could fault about this place. The decor was lovely and the restaurant was immaculate. Thank you to the staff that made my birthday special and for decorating my birthday cake so beautifully.

The ambient and service here is top notch! Super friendly and accomodating. Fast service and the food is so good! We come quiet often.

Great place for delicious Thai food, you can't go wrong with this place. Great service and excellent quality food. Everything we ordered was amazing! Definitely worth a try!

It was my second visit to this restaurant, the ambience is good with great staff. The food is good, liked their Chicken Pad thai and Chicken Red Curry. This has now become my favourite Thai Restaurant.

I came here with my mum for lunch and she got the tom yum noodle soup and I got the chicken pad thai. The price for the pad thai ($17) was pretty good for the massive portion as I couldn’t finish it and I’m wondering whether the portion is actually meant to be shared lol. I did ask for no peanuts and I think I tasted peanuts but my request was made to lower calories instead of an actual nut allergy. The waiter was nice and checked up on us.

The actual pad thai was really sweet, it tasted a bit like tomato sauce was used and I’m not sure if that’s very authentic. However, the noodles were very al dente to the point where it was a bit undercooked, which I actually love because as you take your time to eat it, the noodle ends up soaking the sauce so it gets softer. The presentation with the Chinese chive was very interesting.

Our first dinner out after lockdown and this restaurant really served us well! Excellent food, great service and lovely decor. We all pronounced the food some of the best Thai in town. We left knowing we would be back and are looking forward to it!

This place is up to par with other Thai restaurants that I enjoy dining at. All the dishes we had were delicious and came out within a good time.

We went here for Father’s Day lunch. We usually head into town but since one of us had surgery we needed somewhere local to them so they picked this place. The entrees were nice enough. The mains are where it got bad out of 5 mains ordered only 1 was good. The drunken prawn noodles were good. Two orders of sweet and sour pork where there were more veggies and rice than pork. Also non existent sauce. What Pork was there was tough and wasn’t every nice. The De Grand Noodles were not that grand. With overwhelming amounts of something (i couldn’t place my finger on it) but my partner couldn’t have more than 2 bites. My garlic and pepper beef even though the beef was cooked perfectly had chunks of uncooked garlic through it which made eating it quite hard. We have been here in the past for dinner and usually the curries/stir fry are served in a bowl so you can scoop out the sauce over your rice. However for some reason our mains were served on the same plate as the rice. Unsure if this is because it was lunch however a table next to us had theirs served a bowl with plenty of sauce. Not the best experience and not really authentic Thai.

Lovely spacious restaurant, very friendly staff and tasty food. We were a group of 12 with 3 young kids and we had an area to ourselves which was really nice. Recommand the Tom yum soup, pad thai and their green curry.

Have been here many times in the past. Their food is consistently tasty.

Today I had the massaman curry with beef. The curry was sweet but rich in flavour and goes well with the ingredients that was in it. The beef was little bit tough but it was not bad.
Portion wise, it is a bit on the low side. Could do with more rice. Overall it was still an enjoyable meal.

Taste - 4/5
Service - 3.5/5
Ambience - 4/5

This is the worst Thai restaurant in the whole world. Nice decor but minuscule quantities of food and poor quality meat, giving customers minced meat for Basil and Garlic dishes. Minced meat? - cheapskate. The waiter did not inform us that the dish was minced chicken instead of breast meat and even the minced chicken was of extremely poor quality. Neither was minced chicken with gristle and cartilage (which should be fed to their dogs) mentioned in the menu. What a rip-off!

I’ve been coming here consistently for about 8 years now. Dine in, takeaway it’s always amazing & have never been disappointed. Friendly staff, great service, fresh ingredients. My go to now is drunken noodles with chicken & moneybags but I’ve tasted most of the menu & everything has been exceptional. Best Thai food in Auckland!

Been there many times and this place still manage to impress me. Just discover they have a well decorated kids corner, and the staff are very child friendly.

Food is consistently good. Dessert is fancy but lack of authenticness.

Will keep coming back - as usual.

Came here as a group of 14 recently. I had read some reviews on here about the service but I always take places as I find them. Our whole experience was immpecable. The place is lovely, nice and spacious so tables not too near. The service was excellent, we felt really looked after. The food we delicious. We shared several plates if the mixed appetizers and then picked some random dishes for us all to share. Each one was great..
One if our party had made cake and the team at De Grand even dressed up our sorry looking cake. It was so kind of them. Highly recommend this place and will be returning.

This is by far the worst Thai restaurant I have ever been too! I was served “chicken spicy curry” in the form of bloody water in boiled chicken there was no taste to it and was a complete disappointment. Never going back again doesn’t even deserve 1 star
Rachel Liew
Nice deco and handy location. Good ambience and attentive service. Taste is also good. The only thing we all noticed on that night was portions were not generous compared to what we paid for.
Overall we enjoyed our dinner. we had eaten very fresh steamed whole snapper that was best ever I tried in a thai restaurant.

We used to love this restaurant and claimed it was the best service and best Thai food in Auckland! Sadly the restaurant seems to have changed owners. We have been twice now as we thought we should give it a second chance but the second time was not great either.
It started with the bookings, both visits they didn’t get the booking right (last night they thought I’d booked for 12!!! When is booked for 4....).
The service is ok, but their strength is not clearing plates from the table or filling water glasses. Both of which we had to ask them to do multiple times.
The food, while ok, is definitely not the nicest Thai I’ve had in the area and as the prices are up there Id probably look around for elsewhere to visit next time.
I’m not sure I’ll be back, which makes me sad as it was our go to restaurant for all occasions. We’ll be on the lookout for our next favourite place :(
I_like_pickles
The dining area is very modern and comfortable. The food is nicely plated and the prices are very decent for a restaurant in Epsom.

The appetisers were served on different mediums of "plates". The shrimp was very fresh and nicely marinated. The pad Thai was tasty and nicely cooked.

If you get the chance to, try go at lunch time as the menu is cheaper than the dinner menu.

A surprise in regards to the size of this place as wasn’t expecting it to a big place,. Service was professional and friendly but found the food a little lacking...not my type of Thai, I prefer authentic Thai flavours not westernised, but that’s just me.

Me and my boyfriend visiting Auckland and we came here twice in two weeks tried few meals, it was pretty good!! We had booking for our first time, the service was very nice. We ordered Papaya Salad + extra spicy (as we asked); Pan Thai and Tom yum soup. For the second time we tried Green curry; Papaya and noodles. We highly recommend both Papaya and Curry!! We don’t think the price is high because they have pretty good service and the meals are fresh and it’s really big dish. We would like to say worth for it.
Yeema
Great food, reasonable prices - service was excellent! Looking forward to going again. Loved loved loved the chilly fish, hot spicy chicken, and actually all of them , so tasty, even the kids enjoyed the spicy food. Took a plain birthday cake in which the staff just took off me when I arrived and pimped up in the kitchen and bought out with candles! They were awesome, super friendly, and just attentive!

A good restaurant as far as Thai cuisine goes. Has been here for a number of years and while dishes are standard with nothing much unique, I've never had a bad meal. Really like their prawn dishes, pad Thai & Penang curry. Their desserts are also quite nice.
Julia Louise
This is the closest thai place to my house. I love Thai food and would eat here more often, but it's a bit on the expensive side. The food is good though, it's more than just a 'cheap and cheerful' kind of place.
Chico
Every dish was cooked well, friendly service and clean restaurant. I enjoyed the whole experience but dishes were nothing special compared to any other Thai restaurants. What we had were mild & sweet flavour which were not enough freshness, spices & chill for me.

Good Food, convenient takeaway.

Done in experience is good too. It's a putty most of the time I go I see takeaway customers more than dine-ins.

I love the very spicy raw prawns. I was very impressed by the interiors of this, it's essentially a house that's been revamped into a restaurant.
The menu offers a wide variety of dishes, and we had a hard time pinpointing it down.
Eventually we settled for a prawn dish, sweet chilli chicken, beef salad and steamed vegetables. We also got prosciutto-wrapped prawns, which came in a glass flask of 4, and we enjoyed it so much we ended up getting another one!
Although we didn't have any of their curries, which is what they're probably more renown for, we enjoyed what we had, and service was good!
May be back to try their other dishes.

It is clean, and the staff are dressed in Thai style clothing and are friendly. I cook Thai food weekly. I know my flavors, I know what I am eating. Packet sauces and small portions do not impress me. The prices are expensive. The ingredients no better than you might expect from a cheap takeaway. I find this place to be rather pretentious and laughably bad quality. Would not recommend.

Pad Thai. The staple of the white man's knowledge of Thai cuisine and the order that I decided to go with at my first time venturing into De Grand.

As soon as you walk in your are surprised with how elegant and authentic the Thai feel is. The waitresses and humble and easy to talk to.

All the food was fresh and a nice portion size for the lunch specials. It was a solid contender against the other Thai specialists around Auckland.

Good work De Grand Thai. Keep it up.
Henry
Good quality and great variety, a few good vege options:

1. Pad Thai with tofu (I have without egg)
2. Vege spring rolls with sweet chilli sauce
3. A range of creamy Thai curries with vegetables and tofu.

I like to ask for a bit of their delicious satay sauce to add to 1 and 2 above also.

Nice atmosphere, with lots to choose from. And almost always great, friendly service.
Math Tummë
Very nice space and delicious Thai food. Prompt and attentive service. Easy parking. The food is very well priced, but it's not a cheap-eats style place. Charging for rice is always tacky.
Stevie Marino
Nice place, clean and tidy and the atmosphere is nice. Food was nice, I had the pork red curry. I just wish mine had some more veges, I love my veges!

Apart from having to flag down a waitress after waiting some time to order appetizers the service was good too.

Would happily go back :)

I had a lovely time here! I planned a party for my friend and staff were accommodating and helpful. Food was awesome especially the prawn entree and the decor was perfect with awesome chandeliers and table settings. I tried it here as my other friends told me they loved this place. Parking was fine on the main street after a certain time. Thanks for an awesome evening 😊
Jimmy Dee
Nice, clean Thai restaurant. Modern look and feel. Good service. Typical Thai food, but st this restaurant plated nicely. Was a little pricey for what it is. Good wine selection.
Neil Fibbens
Nice atmosphere, busy but not crowded and the food was very good, excellent service and very clean and tidy. I would certainly return the to try some other options.
Natasha
This place is beautiful! The restaurant is clean, spacious and has a great atmosphere.
The staff are friendly and the food is good. Ordered money bags as a starter and garlic pepper chicken and Penang curry - liked everything.
Would definitely try again.

Went to De Grand last Friday evening with friends and had a wonderful meal. Entrees to start, then the non-seafood banquet for four. The food was superb as always, the staff professional and courteous.
We've been coming to De Grande for a number of years and have always enjoyed beautiful food and great service. We found it by chance and took an overseas visitor woth us who has travelled the world. He said the food was the best Thai food hed tasted anywhere! Highly reccommended.
Dee Best
The food is pretty good but i think it is overpriced and service can get a bit slow during busy nights. Worst of all Is that I found the staff to seem rude and slow which was unprofessional.
Rach Hill
Absolutely amazing...we came in with our daughter and her friends for her 16th birthday and WOW...the staff went out of there way even though they were full to the brim...then to top it off they came out with our daughters dessert lit with a candle singing Happy Birthday...you guys rock you absolutely provided us all with a magical evening so THANK YOU
Pablo Andres Retamales Carreno
We've been to the restaurant several times and the experiences have been satisfactory. Service was quick and food presented nicely. The bonus is that they have a kids play area. So adults can enjoy their meals while kids play in the playroom. My kids loved going to De Grand. Apart from the yummy food, they always have so much fun building blocks and etc. Food must be one of the nicest in auckland.
Joshy
Literally 5 minutes away from my place.

This is the go-to place when me and my partner is craving some good Thai food.

Prices are average, good portions, nice ambiance & friendly staff :)
Nikita Kumar
Very good service and really good food!! Was very pleased with the last 2 experiences I've had at this place! Very lovely staff, and food was prepared and served so well. Would highly recommend
Las Akurugoda
One of my favourite Thai places in central Auckland. It looks classy and feels classy inside. Great food and great service. I always go for the curry puffs and the whole fish. Cannot go wrong with that
Breeanne
My first time here tonight and I am overwhelmed by how amazing this place is. The food, the place, the staff, the atmosphere and the service. Fast & delicious! Would highly recommend this wonderful place. Awesome!
Grace Macalincag
Been here twice & enjoyed both experiences. The staff were very polite & great with drink refills/rice top ups. We were extremely happy with our appetisers #SeafoodPlatterForTwo - it was absolutely delicious & well plated! Ordered the #RoastedDuckCurry & #BeefSirloin for mains - nice flavours but could've had a little more meat in the duck. The desserts were also enjoyable. Would definitely dine in again 😃
Katrina Dodge
Had dinner here last night and the Pad Thai was delicious. Good service and a really good atmosphere with lots of people around. Not too expensive and very large dishes so defiantly worth checking it out.
Nat
Our new favourite Thai restaurant! The prawn entree with Tamarind sauce was amazing-best yellow curry I've tasted-ever. Nice atmosphere, great service--Can't wait to go back.
Gus
We ordered a nice takeout this weekend. I enjoyed the kari puff and chicken wing entrees, the fish cakes were a little dry. For main the beef salad was excellent, nicely cooked beef with a tasty fresh salad. The duck curry was nice but I could have done with a little less sweetness and more heat and the pad thai was decent. Not the best thai I've had but far from the worst either.
Melanie Rose Hansen
As I practically live next door, I take advantage and this is like my new lounge/kitchen. I eat here all the time and bring all my friends and family here! I've almost tried everything...

It's so Warm and cosy, such a welcoming atmosphere and smiley service.

The food is beautiful, I had the BBQ chicken breast with steamed veges and it was a perfect portion! Extremely delicious.
My friend had the prawn pad Thai and was sooo impressed he inhaled it!
The Kari puffs are so yummy! Highly recommend and I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu :)

Beautiful warm set up. Ordered the duck which came out wrapped in an awesome foil origami and on fire 🔥 Every dish was made with absolute love. Had a birthday cake brought in which they decorated with their own Thai styled fruits around the serving dish! A little kids corner was perfect for my little one.. ideal for parents who find it hard to enjoy the luxury of a proper dinner without needing to entertain little ones. Staff were friendly and always asked if we were okay or needed anything. Awesome experience!!!
Jayce Huynh
Delicious food coupled with good service and a nice setting to enjoy it all in. Would I go back? For sure. Also, this is one of the few Asian restaurants that has a good wine list! 😃
Lisa Whyte
Really enjoyed the food and the service here. I had the mixed entree and shared the bacon wrapped prawns, both were to die for. My partner had the fresh spring rolls, said they were very yummy with a it of spice. I had the de grand fried rice and the flavours were really nice. My partner had the basil & garlic duck, well cooked and good portions sizes. Would return again.

Delicious food, some of the best Thai food we have had in Auckland. Staff are polite and efficient. Slightly more expensive than other Thai restaurants but the servings are generous - we ordered one starter, two vegetarian mains and a prawn dish for three people and had a whole container/doggy bag left. Beautiful decor, spacious and the bathroom facilities are excellent.
FlyingMonkey
I had a very nice dinner with my friend. First impression of the restaurant was good, especially the decor, food and atmosphere. We ordered a pork red curry and chicken glass noodles, and tomyym soup. I personallly think the soup is over priced. I personally liked the red curry more than the glass noodle. The glass noodle didn't really appeal to me. I think I prefer pad Thai more next time. Service was fast and very welcoming. Waitress attaended to our needs fast and efficiently. Very enjoyed my experience and will return in the future. Overall Good food. Good service.
Table For Two
Lovely modern Thai restaurant with super friendly staff. Family introduced us to this gem and it currently our fav Thai in Auckland

He said - My favourite dish is the Penang red curry aka D2 I just can't go past it

She said - Fresh tasting meals and yum roti
Ryan Samson
Good food but with the amount of serving their price is a bit dear. Good ambiance and the place is vibrant and buzzing especially on a Friday night
Marjorie Anderson
Visited this restaurant a couple of times with colleagues from work and this time with my husband. This is clearly a well managed restaurant, turning over meals with little delay allowing working people to pop in and enjoy a high quality Thai menu during their lunch breaks. Excellent selection, great service, wonderful flavour in the food choices and would highly recommend you take the time to try this restaurant out as you will not be disappointed. Well done to the management and team.

De grand is always fantastic. Visit here about five times a year for last five years. Recommend to anyone food is consistently great and service is outstanding.

Went here first the first time and was very impressed with the service, food presentation and outstanding flavours.
Wide range of food and friendly staff made for an excellent night out.
Recommended

Almost perfect. Great food super clean good service. Cannot go wrong here.
Maybe a bit pricey but hey this is the ultimate Thai experience in Auckland in my opinion.
Keep it up....
BeeQueUU
With guests in town given Chinese NY this was a well reputed Thai establishment. A
Quite a large roomy outlet so getting a table isnt the usual chore. Still recommend reserving on key days. Spring rolls pictured come in a glass 4 served. These were a little over fried and oily. 3/5.
Chicken satay was perfect fresh spring roll is menu but note they are vegetarian.
Mains were of good standard service was uneven.
Kulbhushan Joshi
Great ambience. Actually a really humming place. Food was good and tasty. Some vegetarian options but only manipulated meat dishes. would be nice to see more vege options.
Prices are high but I suppose it goes with the area and the class of ppl they maybe targeting. Maybe. Portions were good.
Su Yeon Lee
We went there last night and Grand it is not !
Service is pretty poor, as staff that serve you look very uninterested in even being there.
Food was poor, being red curry was the only exception as it was ok.
We ordered tempura vegetables , it was horrible ,basically just batter fried bits of random vegetable pieces, in really thick batter, just yuck.
Do your self a favour and don't waste your time and money going there !
Andrew

This place is our local - they have a great menu, and an excellent lunchtime deal. They are also BYO, which is good for evening dinners too.

The curries are full of flavour, and not too greasy. Can recommend the De Grand Duck - tastes delicious flamboued in brandy.

Service is friendly, and they do takeaways too. Not the cheapest Thai around, but well worth it.
Nirma Killa
I went to De Grand Restaurant on Saturday night with my family. The ambiance was awesome, a bit too noisy though. Service could have been better. We got an incorrect order which we ended up taking because they brought it twice. The staff taking my order refused to come closer while taking order..he said he could hear me, guess not.

The spicy curry we ordered had more water than a spices. the rest of the food was good.
Nadine Dornbusch
The food is absolutely fantastic. So much choice. Fantastic service. They made sure we had everything we needed during the evening. Great atmosphere. We had someone with us in a wheelchair and the access was great. The bathroom facilities were immaculate and perfect for her to use. We will be recommending this restaurant to all our friends and we will be back. Thank you.

This restaurant has very nice atmosphere and interior designs. Ordered the banquet dinner, Fried snapper sweet and sour ( i think Pla Lard Pik) is really nice, unfortunately it just stops there. Stir fry veges with chicken/pork/beef - using the same veges only different sauces. Not impressed at all. Red curry was okay. I think there are other Thai restaurants that serve much more authentic Thai food in Auckland.
Marta Piszel
It's a great place. Nice atmosphere, great, fresh food, fast and pleasant service and a lovely corner for young children which made us feel so welcome when we visited with a toddler. Will definitely come back.
Michelle Young
This restaurant has been my saving grace. I haven't always been able to dine in although when I have the service has been lovely. We tend to get takeaways and it feels like such a nice treat, so handy to us and all the family love the food from here.
Cecilia Kim
The food was OK, was served pretty fast.
Service was pretty average, wasn't polite or attentive like other friendly Thai restaurants.
This was my third time and the service is getting worse.
Wouldn't go again from next time.
There's plenty of other Thai restaurants that I would go to
Katrina Bellamy
A lovely stylish restaurant with attentive service and great food. Food was really scrummy, spring rolls and dumplings had sensational pastry - crispy, light and non greasy. Didn't realise until the end but there was a lovely kids playroom under the stairs. We'll be back.
Mane Bradich
Faultless service, beautiful ambiance, attractively presented food. But unfortunately the food was very bland! Thai food is my favourite so was disappointed/surprised that the food at this restaurant had such little flavour/no punch to it.
Linda P
It was a most enjoyable evening. Very attentive staff, comprehensive menu, beautifully presented meals. We have been here before and will return.
Cathy Smith
I've eaten here several times before but last night was a big disappointment. Although the restaurant was quiet, the service was shocking and we had to wave over staff several times ! The food was below usual standard ( sent the non sizzling steak back) and the ladies toilet was dirty and without basic requirements. I could go on & on but suffice to say, we won't be returning!
Cherie Torepe
De Grand Thai Restaurant is my favourite and the best Thai Food ever. I always choose to take my visitors because I know that they will not be disappointed. The restaurant has nice ambiance and generally overall great service, food and made to feel welcome.
Joy Hillman
Great service - prompt and friendly. Food was excellent and our party were well looked after. Clean & tidy - overall a lovely place. Would certainly recommend and would visit again.
Anne Hunter
Modern, pleasant decor. Service very good. Food absolutely delicious - wonderful menu and superb food and variety. A wonderful evening spoiled only by EXCESSIVE noise. Couldn't hear ourselves think - or talk!! I recommend some noise baffling/dulling materials.

Anne Hunter

We held our work Christmas party here last night, we had over 90 people and the staff at the restaurant made it all so easy. The food was out of this world and came in abundance I have to say this is some of the best Thai food I have tasted and the feedback from the other staff attending was extremely positive.

The service is amazing and the manager and his team could not have been more helpful. They made our Christmas party a success and everyone had an awesome time. I highly recommend this place for either a nice quiet meal or a larger gathering, the team are professional and fun and worked really hard to make the event special.

Brilliant food, brilliant service, this place should be on every ones must do list!!!

Food was good but obviously most of it prepared earlier in the day as came out very fast from the kitchen.
Not a lot of flavour this time and that was disappointing .... I had brought an overseas guest with me this time.
Also size of portions has been reduced and for the price was too little.

Decor was stunning but service was slow. We were a party of 9 and had to wait a very long time before a waiter came to our table. Food was nice but portions quite small. Good location.

Lovely lovely food. Very flavourful. I only wish they were less stingy with their portions! :)

Delicious dining experience and warm and friendly service, even during a power cut! It was business as usual with extra candles - lovely!

The service was quietly efficient without being instrusive and the food was served to the table quickly, was very tasty and plentiful.

The service at De Grand is excellent with the staff being attentive, courteous and friendly. The food is always superb with a wide range of interesting and tasty selections.I especially like the vegetarian options as one of our party prefers no meat. This time we tried a green curry option as one of our plates and it was also delicious. What more can I say--we will be back!!!

The restaurant was very modern looking and very busy. The food was yummy but the dishes were not big servings like some other Thai restaurants. Found it a bit hard to talk as the place was very noisy! Overall it was a nice and place and would come back again!

We enjoyed the quality of the food but thought it on the expensive side. The sense of spaciousness is spoiled for us by the hard surfaces which make noise a major problem and conversation difficult, not made easier by the bus stop outside. Their takeaway service we have also enjoyed and thought better value.

One of our locals! We eat at least here once or twice every two months. Why because we love the food! Delicious fresh ingredients, crisp flavours, friendly wait staff. It's BYO did anyone else mention. Quality food. we love the duck basil and garlic and always have prawns n bacon. Friends love being introduced to it. Great location on Great South Rd - the new restaurant mile!

Went there last night and were amazed: food's awesome, staff - friendly, service - perfect, etc.

Edited:

Had takeaways - wasn't as good as dine in experience.

I always go here for takeaways!

Get the fish cakes, pad Thai and cashew chicken.

Thai is probably our favourite takeaway, so we were very happy when De GRAND opened at the Market Rd shops! I have lost track of how many times I have purchased from here (at least 20+) and it is always EXCELLENT.

We have always bought takeaways, but the restaurant is always buzzing and lively and has a lot of tables out the back as well so would be a good option if you want to eat in.

They are not the cheapest Thai around, but in my opinion they are the BEST!

Bloody excellent experience, good on you the staff at De Grand. As soon as we walked in we were blown away by the amazing decor - the place LOOKS visually gorgeous. We were quickly seated, given water immediately. Staff were immaculately presented and answered a few questions I had about the menu. We had the prawn entree which I will DEFINITELY be returning for - it was AMAZING. They came in their own little spoons with fresh vege, sauce, and a little lettuce leaf - sooo yummy. I had noodles and he had Red Curry - both were gorgeous. The staff were really attentive, refilling our water without being asked, asking if we needed anything, etc. Very impressive. Can't wait to go back. Amazing place.

Excellent experience. We went on a night when there was a large group on the tables next to us, but this in no way affected the service or the quality of the food. There were four of us and we had the $49 banquet. Plenty of food, and everything from the appetisers through to the dessert was great. Crisp, clean flavours, nicely spiced where required and presented in a stylish way without the over-the-top garnishing you sometimes get in Thai places. The yellow curry was one of the best I've had, and the Tom Yum soup was delicious. Service was quick and attentive without being intrusive, and the fact we could bring our own wine and pay a very reasonable corkage was a major bonus. Can't wait to go back!

We were a group of six and we had a great evening at de Grand Thai. The ambiance is very modern. The food is very good - we had the banquet at approx $35pp and everything (except the beef) was very good. The beef was a bit chewy. The whole chilly fish was excellent and all the other dishes were very good too. The service was excellent and it was great to be able to bring our own wine. Overall we found the prices very reasonable. We'll be going back again.

We went to this restaurant for my Dad's 50th! It was fantastic. I couldn't find any fault with the food - the Tom Yum Soup I could have eaten all night! We got the banquet which was about $50 each and definitely value for money. Absolutely adored it, and we will definitely be going back again for more! A++++++++++++++

Being a great lover of Thai food and eaten all around Auckland I would have to say this is the best around. Beautiful clean, modern and no carved carrots!!The staff are very attentive but not over the top.Great food.Great that it is BYO and not a huge surcharge.

Nice clean modern Thai restaurant. Helpful attentive wait staff. We took a number of small entrees that were all tasty and nicely presented. For the main courses we played it safe and had a rice and a noodle dish. All the food was freshly prepared and light. The flavors were good and well defined. Good service good food well worth a look.
