Review Orleans - Auckland Central

Ezra has treated me with the best hospitality that I’ve had in Auckland, I expect that he get the greatest pay rise any of your staff has recieved

Love the margarita slushies I wish they had the $5 deal on the weekends too x

Fries were delicious. Fake plants need dusting . Adequate service concerning te climate. 4 stars due to dusty plants.

Interesting place. All ages over 18. The bar can get crowded but the music range is legit

Worth a visit. Would come back for my treat day. Recommend this place for those who are never stressed out with their healthy diet. I loved almost everything that I ordered. Not quite happy with my drink but it is okay actually.

Waffle chicken is really good. I loved their unique sauce. One thing i didnt like was their shake. It was luke warm and didnt taste fresh. Other than that, it was all good.
Don’t let the Instagramable chicken waffle stack fool you into coming here. 👎🏼
The food is very disappointing, as is the service. I ordered the cheeseburger and it wasn’t available (at 6pm on a Saturday night). I chose the pork belly and it was dry and flavourless. The St Louis Sour was very good though. The staff didn’t ask us how we found our food and they were generally inattentive.

Been here twice! And would come back again! Chicken and waffles are amazing! And their milkshakes are a treat, you’ll never want to say no to! 👌🏼

Night out with friends. Had the strawberry n cream milkshake with vanilla vodka. Awesome flavour. Lots of cocktails which were great too. We had jalapeño poppers. Perfect with the chipotle mayo. Ordered the sharing waffle stack. Pretty average. Have had better else where. Lots of carbs loaded with fries and the waffles and little protein compared to all th other sharing platters at that price range. The sharing ribs were awesome. Juicy melt in the mouth and falling off the bone with chips. Defineatly will go back for the ribs and drinks.

Went to the Domestic Airport store. I travel quite frequently and to be honest I always thought I'd try this place - so I did since my flight was delayed.

Not impressed. The place was messy, the service was slow. And the food isn't all that good. Macas would have been better.

I know now for next time.

Instagram vs. Reality @orleansnz 🍟👎
What's worse than realising Orleans ditched their curly fries? Ordering potato skins and getting goddamn french fries. Good to know they changed their name, I'll make sure to ask for "potato skins" next time I pull up to the maccas drive-through.
#tendollarbasketofdissapointment #itwasbadenoughwhenyoutookthebigeasyoffthemenu #nextthingtheyllcutthechickenwaffles

Great atmosphere, food and drinks. This place is great, but not really a kid place if you’re looking for a family dinner place. I’ll definitely be returning here to explore more of the menu soon!

Chicken waffles are to die for! Massive portion and taste amazing! Great vibe and fun atmosphere, also a good range and great selection on the menu,
Great staff and very friendly . 10/10

From the service to the food everything was perfect!! There was 5 of us and we had an awesome night, beautiful food and the ambiance was awesome. Most of us got the Orleans Fried Chicken Waffles and it was delicious! It was like having main and dessert in one, and it all seemed to work well. Will definitely be back to try other dishes.

Chicken waffle stack!!! This thing is huge and easily shareable with your significant other (or not if you are that way inclined haha).
When I went for a family members birthday we didn't have to wait to long as we had booked in. The restaurant wasn't overly busy either considering it was a Saturday night which was nice.
Our drinks were first up (however I cannot remember which cocktails we ordered..). Our family members had ordered the same cocktail during a previous visit and were disappointed as it was nothing like the previous one they had. The staff happily remade the cocktails which was great.
The food as I mentioned above is huge. The waffle stack is easily shareable especially if you opt to get chips or additional sides. The waffle stack itself was pretty good, however everyone had slightly different portions of chicken, pork, waffles etc for their serving. The taste of the food was great, nice and tender!
Definitely will be back to try this place again :)

I enjoyed the atmosphere at this darkly lit establishment. Music was good and not too loud, drinks were damn tasty... I recommend the St Louise Sour. The whiskey list was solid. Food was good American bar food. The waffles and chicken was delicious. It was pretty busy but didn’t feel crowded once we were seated which was good. I’ll be going back for sure.

We enjoyed an awesome anniversary night here. We had the chicken waffles and the spinach and artichoke dip as an entree, and the rump and load potato as a main. Everything was really good. Good atmosphere and great service.
Nadine
I'd heard a lot of great things about orleans and felt as though me and my partner better try it out. The menu is full of lots of things we wanted to try. I got the seafood chowder which settled to nothing more than disappointing, mostly corn and the few pieces I had of mussels tasted like small sacs of flour (clearly not fresh). Chicken wings were yummy with a good sauce, however, extremely small for the price. Overall, would not recommend, found it very disappointing.

Okay place. Service is normal. I expected New Orleans Cajun food, but did not find it anywhere. Food was good in general. Steak and seafood bowl I remember?

Great place, live music on the weekends which make for some great date night vibes. Staff are awesome 9/10, food and drinks 8.5/10 they were great but some were at an average taste. Had the chicken and waffles and the pork belly. Waffles were amazing, chicken was a bit dry but was saved by the syrup, pork belly was a small portion for and was a bit pricey but was served with a really nice rich sauce and a small side salad, I was still hungry afterwards.
Pop on through and check these guys out, especially in the weekend.
Will come through again for sure if I'm ever in the area.

Amazing atmosphere, great cocktails & all servers were super lovely. Awesome food portions and tastes great too- (especially the Mac and cheese) will definitely be back

Yummy chicken and waffles. My partner got this huge tower stack! And quite liked it. Can’t judge much based on only having one meal but would go back for more👍🏼
Abby
Absolutely amazing!! Friendly attentive staff, delicious food, great drinks, cool vibe. Food came out super fast, was tasty and fresh!! We had the jalapeño poppers, Mac and cheese would definitely recommend those again!! Also corn bread and fried pickles, while still delicious, not quite what we expected, wouldn’t get them again, only to have room for other goodies to try. Also the waffle stack- amazing!! Sweet, spicy, crispy, soft, well balanced tasty goodness. Would definitely recommend to others and will 100% be back!! Thanks for an awesome anniversary dinner Orleans!!

Great food very generous servings. Food was on point so yum unable to fault. Unfortunately the service was a little lacking. Overall a great atmosphere with delicious food we will visit again
Asianfoodie
Had difficulty in taking a nice shot because I had to keep the stick in place😂 but what a stack!! The chicken was juicy, the waffles were perfect with the exact amount of sweetness that went well with the chicken. Excited to visit again to try their mac & cheese.
Brave Eat
Extremely busy and noisy place but it was a good experience to enjoy the friday night. Food was good the staff was very helpful with choosing drinks and the meal. Their cocktails were amazing! One thing i disliked was their dining seats were very uncomfortable...
Kaoseumu
Great to enjoy spectacle of waffle stack chicken a little bit dry across the dishes coleslaw yum and mac n cheese. Portions have gotten smaller over time. Waffle burger I had was a little unfun to eat because they are cooked hard and hurt the lips to bite into a little. Great ambience.

We dined here on 26th April and 3 items on mains menu were sold out and dessert both types of beignets sold out. How does a restaurant “sell out” of items?? They need to have enough ingredients to be able to prepare! Additionally was not impressed with the food at all. Very underwhelming. The mac & cheese had absolutely no flavor and as much salt as i added it wouldn’t help. Unequivocally the worst Mac & Cheese I have ever had. Writing this I don’t even remember other items ordered as thats how underwhelming it was. Giving it a 1 rating only because of the live music. That was the only good component.

WHOLESOME. Chicken on waffles is the most wholesome pairing I never knew I needed. I don’t usually like waffles but Orleans made me fall in love with theirs.

Located conveniently in Britomart with fun and lively staff (or Auckland Domestic Airport).
Totally Fried NZ
We got totally fried at Orleans.
-
What better way to mark International Waffle Day than with a tower of fried chicken and waffles the size of a central Auckland apartment on a bed of curly fries. And a few extra waffle burgers, just because.
-
Orleans have an extensive menu of waffle options from starter to desert, even the burger buns are waffles. And the fried chicken can be added to anything for just $3 so happy days.
-
The tower is the most photogenic review we’ve done to date and turns heads like a streaker at the rugby. And as it’s placed down on the table swaying in the wind, you must take a minute to admire its beauty, and of course take shit loads of photos for the gram.
-
It features not only our favourite fried chicken, but pork belly, onion rings cheese and slaw so there’s really something for everyone in here - even the vegetarians.
-
The waffle burgers seem a little insignificant after consuming the leaning tower of waffle, and we’re certain waffles are no replacement for a great burger bun, but points for creativity. Not sure how fresh the waffles are but they were quite firm. And more maple please.
-
Pro tip, pay the extra $1 for a side of extra maple, we’ve never heard of too much maple and the tower is a thirsty beast in that regard.
-
Overall: 4.2/5
-
What we had:
Waffle Stack $36
Fried Chicken Burger $12
$48
Li
Nice cheap eat restaurant. We ordered rump steak, pork ribs, chicken waffles and curly fries. To be honest, I am not a fan of the waffle but their fried chicken is tasty. I will try to order the chicken only next time. The pork rib is a little bit too sweet for me but the rump steak is perfect. The curly fries is my favour. Will come back another day for the live music.
Karen
Orleans is famous for its chicken waffles, specifically waffle Wednesday where they are half price! This was the first place i tried chicken waffles and not many places after can live up to Orleans. On this particular day we came, they were extremely busy and we got our food very late. When we went to pay, the waitress apologised and gave us a 50% discount acknowledging our wait was unacceptable. This is the kind of service we need, makes the wait worth it when it’s acknowledged and the food is 👌🏾
#fatlyfe
Came here on the Wednesday arvo for their special! Waffles with fried chicken and a Nutella milkshake..... yummmmmm. The waffles were soft n fluffy the chicken was juicy and had a bit of a rub on it along with a drizzle of maple syrup 😍😍 the shake was divine and to top it off it was only $12!!! Would definitely recommend :-)
Jacynda Darmawan
I went for the Wednesday deal; chicken waffle + milkshake for $12. Such a bang for your buck! Although for some people, the portion might be a bit small. The milkshake was quite thick and filling so it was good that I wasn't completely stuffed after the chicken waffle.

Love the ambiance.
Summer Ikitoelagi
Good atmosphere with a live band in the background on a Saturday night. Enjoyed the cocktails mostly but the mac n cheese, jalapeno poppers, fried pickles and fried chicken were delish.
Nathalie
We really enjoyed our dinner here. staff was super lovely and attentive and the ambiance was warm and cosy. Food wise we ordered tuna salad, fried chicken, pork belly, beef cheek, macaroni and fries. Our best dish was the beef cheek, it was super soft and soooo yum!! The pork was also delicious. The fried chicken was okay I wasn’t a fan of the mint sauce on top and the macaroni was a tad dry. Overall we left smiling and was very satisfied! Will def be back!

Service was fast and friendly but the desserts I had did not hit the mark.

We ordered two servings of beignets - one with caramel sauce and one with custard.

The beignets were crispy on the outside without being too oily and soft on the inside but I think they over-proofed the dough or added too much yeast because the dough tasted like bitter alcohol.

Also, I know beignets are meant to be generously covered in icing sugar. but I feel like it is too much for me as the icing sugar sometimes gets caught in my throat, causing me to cough.

The caramel sauce tasted wierd because they added too much bourban or whisky to it, not sure which. The alcohol overpowered the taste of the caramel sauce.

The one highlight of this dish was the custard, it was cooling, smooth, creamy, mildly sweet and had a hint of vanilla. I reckon it could use more vanilla but it was good without it as well.

I giving it a two star because service was good but the food was not.
PK
Loved the waffle chicken was very tasty sweet and savory flavors. The fish bois were full of flavour and chicken waffle burger was yum. Live band was not performing while we we were dining but ambience was great. Will return for chicken waffles!

Came here a few days ago after seeing it on first tables. The portion sizes are quite large and is definitely worth the money (especially if you’re using first tables).
The baby back ribs and chicken and waffle to share were amazing! The beef cheek was very tender and was lovely. However, theirMac n cheese was a little undercooked for my liking - wasn’t sure about the chives placement on the top of it either. The coleslaw wasn’t your traditional tangy slaw - which was a disappointment as we were hoping for the slaw to cut through the fatty food we had just eaten, but ended up adding into the grease.

Did realise once I got home, that I was overcharged for my drinks (how does two beers ($9 each) and a jug of cocktail ($25) add up to $51? Not sure but not worth complaining about cause it’s only a few dollars, but always double check what you’re paying for before you pay for it! 🙃

Orleans is this cool little spot with great decor and vibe. It gets full fast so get there early.
Service is slow when they busy, half the table received their food and the others had to wait at least 5-10 min before they received their dinner.

Ordered a mix of mains and sides, the jalapeño pops should come with a WARNING! OMG they are scorching hot (temperature wise) when you bite into them, burnt my tongue and underneath my tongue which affected the rest of my night.

The fried pickles were good. Fried green tomatoes, not good at all. Jalapeño poppers were yummy once they cooled down. The mac & cheese was cheesy but no flavour to it, needed salt.

Mains were hit or miss, the pork belly was tough and dry and no sauce came with it. The beef cheek was delicious, will definitely order that again.

Had a craving for fried chicken and Orleans was on our list of places to try so we took a leap of faith and weren't disappointed. We tried the fried chicken waffles, butter milk fried chicken and a side of curly fries. Service was great considering we were the first customers they had right on opening time. Our food definitely met our expectations and we both left full and satisfied, thanks orleans we will be seeing you again soon.

Hands down my favourite place to eat some Cajun cuisine, enjoy some hard liquor and listen to Jazz Music. Friday nights are particularly recommended.

Waffle fried chicken burger with bacon - had this one as my dinner after long work.. Orleans had their pop up stand in Britomart squares.. after long queue, got to enjoy this yummy food - Denny Setiawan
Rob
The decor was a bit dark overall with more a bar-like feel. However, there's a reason why their chicken and waffles is infamous. The combination of the two really go well together.

Great ambience, staff was friendly but service was a bit slow. Tried the famous Fried Chicken and Waffles, Curly Fries and Seasonal Shrub. I must say I was a little disappointed as the waffles was too dry so I soaked it with the maple syrup together with the crunchy chicken. The combination of sweet and savoury was nice though. The curly fries was good.
Jamie Craig
Good food nice place, we had limited time and the waiting staff suggested menu items that would take the least time. Food arrived promptly and was delicious
Brendan Abel
Great food, awesome attentive staff, only thing that would make it better was better seating like cafe/resteraunt, we’ll be back. Next time will have dessert
Maxine Balani
I had the one in the airport. It was pretty good, a little dry but it was good!!!! I would recommend to try the elderflower and cucumber drink 🙌🏼 it’s so refreshing 👍🏼
Sophie Wilton
I came here specifically for the change of menu because TOFFEE BEIGNETS????? OMG these were frickin amazing I want to eat these every bloody day
Michelleee1301
Best food, can’t go without trying the chicken. Beth has some amazing recommendations and is an overall gorgeous waitress. Would recommend booking during the weekend

Absolutely love the atmosphere of this place, First timer here, we went with a group of 20+ people to celebrate our friends 18th wedding anniversary, the 2 man band was off the hook! The staff were amazing from the time we entered the restaurant, up until we left. BUT the food OMG was OTT INCREDIBLE. I ordered the waffle stack and the Pecan Pie and my husband ordered the Baby Back Pork Ribs and Curly fries, everything was made Picture PERFECT and felt the Love when that food reached our mouths. Everything was cooked so well, the salad that came with both dishes were spot on, they compliment both dishes well. The Waffle Stack was huge and you need to share this with at least another person, The Ribs, are to die for, its meat falling off the bone seriously, both dishes were that good we ate too fast we couldn't finish it, the only thing I didn't like was the pastry of the Pecan pie, the topping was delicious I must say but the pastry was to thick and texture was dry, It would be nice if it were thin and moist, not to hard. The cinnamon ice-cream was yummy and definitely a good buy.
We're so overwhelmed by the experience, we took a doggy bag home and told our family on our return home to join us. Some didn't wanna invite us afraid we would kill their experience. Anyways I look forward to coming back here to eat again. Totally recommend this place to anyone wanting a good fresh start your weekend or even ending the week on a HIGH!
Kelvin
The place is great can be a bit dark sometimes but you get use to it.
Definitely love the huge waffle stack they have! Good idea to share it :) it gives u a good range of types of food they have it has a little bit of everything on their menu.
The waffle burgers arnt to bad either but i always cant pass up on sharing that waffle stack!
Luke Ma'a
Very cool vibe, very nice service. First time trying a waffle burger and I know for a fact I'll be back for more. I'm a fiend for jalepeno poppers and their poppers hit that hot spot, and the stacked brownie for dessert was the perfect way to top it all off
Food?
Tried the famous chicken and waffles. The chicken was fried perfectly with a hint of spices, especially rosemary. The waffles were crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. The sweet and savoury flavors are perfectly brought together by the drizzle of maple syrup. The portions are just right, you run out as soon as it starts to get a bit too rich. A bit of spicy mayo would top it off.

Yum yum yum!

We went here on a first table booking.

The chicken and waffles (signature dish) were awesome. Super crunchy waffles, tasty and succulent fried chicken with a generous serving of maple syrup spiked with a little chipotle. Simple and delicious.
The jalapeño poppers were pretty great also. Super crunchy batter, perfect amount of filling to compliment the hit of chilli.

Service was probably a little over-attentive, but good none the less.
Kgk
This place was trash. The food was not good, undercooked chicken, price is way too high for what it is. Whoever goes here does not know what real food is. :)
Edwina - Let’s Eat!
Great vibe and service. Classic food of the South and the most delicious (and pretty) cocktails! Went for a mid-week late lunch and will definitely check it out on a Friday or Saturday night.

I’ve been to the new store in Domestic Airport, and I wasn’t that impressed. I ordered the chicken waffle burger and I only got a small piece of chicken (smaller than a piece of a chicken wing), a slice of bacon and a wee bit of coleslaw. It was dry, no sauce or any maple syrup. However, perfect waffles though! It was crunchy outside and soft inside just like how a waffle should be. Bit disappointed with what I got for what I paid for but nonetheless, lovely customer service and I‘ll still definitely give it a try and visit the one in Britomart. Might try their desserts!
Yeahggggg
The food here is all yum, but the best thing is the jalapeño mac n cheese!!!!!! I can eat hundreds of them if there is a jug of beer in front of me.
Ayaan Shaikh
Pretty good place to grab some cheap food, especially their waffle wednesday where you can get their chicken waffles for 8 dollars. They have a pretty extensive menu mostly consisting of different types of waffle creations and the ambience is solid as well. One complaint is that they are pretty vague on when their kitchen closes so it can be a bad surprise walking in and finding out that they are only serving drinks when you're craving a meal.
Flippynz
Heard about orleans a few times and managed to finally get there. Cool little restaurant and bar with a stage right down the back. So i came here for this chicken and waffle thing and oh man is it good. They also have a range of culleys hot sauces to cut through the sweetness if you like. I wouldnt mind buying some of these. Blackened fish po boy was a nice balance to the sweetness.
Alethea Gabrielle Nichols
Came here on friday night and the food was amazing and definitely worth the money. The service was awesome - our waiter Theodore was great!! Will for sure be back again.
Brizzle
The service was a 5, the food was a 2.
We ordered the calamari, buttermilk chicken, pulled pork po’boy, curly fries and a jug of APA.
The only thing that was cooked well was the curly fries.
Calamari - tasteless thinly cut squid rings.
Buttermilk chicken - was the best dish, but the chicken was dry.
Pulled pork Po’boy - toasted bun that crumbled like stale bread. Absolutely no flavoring with pulled pork and coleslaw styled salad in the bun.
Curly fries - we got the unloaded ones as the loaded ones described by the waitress just had mince on them.
The fries and the beer were the highlight of the meal. Disappointing as we came from the caretaker bar to Orleans, had a US theme night going, Orleans food let the night down........enter sad face.....

Service needs to improve. I left a phone message to book a table for 6.30 three days ago. When I arrived today, they had my name and number down but for a 5.30 booking and had given my table away. At this stage I was referred onto the hostess. The hostess then insisted that I had booked online (which I had not) and that she never got my phone message.
When it came our turn to pay, they couldn't find out bill and eventually we were presented with 3 different bills. Pork belly was dry, mac and cheese very bland. I will not be returning to this place nor recommending it to others.
Marnie
Easily the best fried chicken and waffles in Auckland. Half price waffles on Wednesday, what could be better?

Always a crowd-pleaser. We’ve been here numerous times and the staff are really welcoming and helpful!
Anna Mac
Uncomfortable seats, waffles were hard and dry. Chicken was okay but nothing to write home about. We had the Mac and cheese side, again nothing special. Very expensive for what you get.
Sonia Son
Ambience was cozy and comfortable. Staffs were friendly. We sat on a stool which was bit uncomfortable and there were no where to hang to coats. The food came out quickly than I thougth. We ordered chicken waffle and pork belly. chicken waffle portion was bit small but it was delicious.

I’ve had good experiences at Orleans but I haven’t gone this year until last week. Wasn’t too happy with their food.

Tried the Andouille plate but I find that the plate was a bit of a weird mix and didn’t really go well together.. also the scotch egg was tiny compared to all the others I’ve had at other places.

The curly fries were more chopped up bits than the spiral ones you’d expect when you get curly fries.

Buttermilk chicken was good but a bit too little sauce.

Grilled cheese cornbread wasn’t very cheesy at all.. quite bland.

Worst of all... I was actually prompted to visit Orleans again because I saw a post on Instagram for their custard beignets so I ordered that and it looked nothing like the photo on Instagram or photos from zomato (by other customers).. it was big and chunky in various sizes that make it difficult to bite in.. I thought oh okay just another bad case of McDonald’s (actual food not looking like the photo at all)... but then I saw the photos other customers uploaded on zomato so I don’t understand why our plate was like that? Was it just messy bits of left over dough? So disappointing...
I have uploaded photos of our plate and the photos I saw, I’m sure you can figure out which one is our plate.

Not sure when I’d head back again after this time.

Working in the same building at Orleans has meant countless visits, especially for their waffle and shake Wednesday’s. At the end of every month, they have a pretty creative milkshake and chicken waffle (which I personally think is the best item on their menu) combo, for $12 which you can’t really fault. Chicken waffles are amazing, the perfect combo of sweet and savoury. If you plan on visiting on a Wednesday, do be mindful that you may have to wait to get a table as this place is always packed!
Sophie
A warm and friendly greeting to a casual relaxing atmosphere.
We shared the pork ribs(36$)
and mac n cheese.
.
The rib was quite good with 3 types of sauce which was on the table. Very well cooked. That was more than average. And nicely presented.
Portion was 2 for enough.
.
Food 4.5/5
Price 4/5
—————————————————————————————————-
Mac n cheese... omg.. it was to die for.
This mac n cheese was perfect.
We loved smoky flavor and texture.
And super cheap too.
.
Food 5/5
Price 5/5
.
The atmosphere was so vibrant. The food is worth the money u pay for it. Prices is cheap so u can have drink a lot.
We r looking forward to going back.

Me and a colleague went to New Orleans today for lunch
Service 5/5
Atmosphere 4/5
Food 3/5

We ordered the Chicken Waffle, Macaroni Cheese Waffle Burgers and Curly Fries.

Although the idea of eating of Waffle burger seems really cool and tasty sounding, it was actually quite the mission to try and eat all together. The Waffle seemed quite doughy and dry and I guess we didn't have enough experience to know what sauces to use that where on offer. Curly fries as usual are always good so no complaints there. Staff where great :)

I'd give an overall rate of 3.5 if I could give a .5

Great ambience and great food! Staff and management are great too! Food is hearty so perfect for a winters evening and group catchups! Fried chicken is yum yum!

Hidden gem in the crannies of Britomart.

And like for most gems, be prepared to wait. While you wait to be seated indoors, have a drink or two outdoors, beneath the twinkling lights and beautiful music by the onsite DJ. Mains cannot be ordered outside, but nibbles need no permission. Reservations are welcome.

The food tingles the senses. For anyone who is planning to visit, do order the waffle and chicken with maple syrup. Its a perfect balance of sweet and salty with a slight crunch of basil. It tastes better than it sounds. The big bowl dishes can easily be shared between two.

The ambience is very vintage, dim lit. The service is fast and the servers are friendly. In the pics, the big punch, Gumbo, Fried chicken and waffles.

Pricewise: $45 for two
Returns: Waffle calling
Calvin
Orleans= Chicken and waffles! they do it best hands down! The place is ambient with live music, great for family or dates! This a given but the interior is actually designed to look like new orleans!

Food- 9.5/10
Service- 9/10
Aesthetics- 9/10
Naima Khan
The ambiance is brilliant! And that’s where the experience ended for me. We waited (more like made to wait) for almost an hour coz it was “all booked”. When we managed to get our seats, table for two people 🤷🏻‍♀️ we ordered curly fries, strawberry & cream and salted caramel hardshakes which was good but not something memorable. Then we ordered the famed Chicken & Waffles and a side of Mac & Cheese.. so our Chicken & Waffle was COLD ! So we requested for it to be replaced which they did willingly and our second batch was good to eat, yet again.. when we mean to replicate southern american dishes i mean just a few meagres pieces of chicken & waffles is a bit underwhelming and yet when the flavour is very mediocre there is nothing that I wish to go back for. Mac & Cheese was cheesy yet again wasn’t oozy or cheesy as per description it was a bit cold too.. for dessert we ordered Custard Beignets & Pecan Pie .. And again! The only word i can think of underwhelmed, beignets were alright but Pecan Pie the base was so hard to even bite into not crusty and filling so thin we felt everything was just a rushed cooking or just all of the dishes missed the mark. My first trip to Orleans, I had been looking forward to it for a while but safely can say might not be coming back anytime soon.

P.S. the service was good, the waitress was sweet and helpful. The food needs improvement for sure.
Love.Life.Daley
I’ve been wanting to try Orleans because I’ve heard about their fried chicken waffles but only recently discovered they showcase live music on weekends as well.

From first impressions I was pleasantly surprised at how cool the interior is. The music drifts through from the back of the restaurant, it is dimly lit with high standing tables and it has an air of sophistication to it. We were seated near the small stage and got to enjoy live jazz soul music for the evening which just added another dimension to the experience.

The food is mostly under NZD 20 so the prices are reasonable, especially considering the location and setting. Service was efficient and our waitress checked up on us throughout the evening.

I loved the spinach and artichoke dip served with tortilla chips to share at the table. The fried chicken waffle with maple syrup - with a hint of chilli - was absolutely delicious. I wouldn't opt for the waffle stack, although huge in portion it lacked something when compared to my smaller portion waffle.

A great night out indeed!

We ordered the waffle stack and the pork ribs with two hardshakes (Oreo and Salted Caramel) to share between 5 people. The waitress was so lovely and patient with us and the food came super quickly as well. The Waffle Stack was tall and proud with so many different elements to it, which makes the dish so interesting and perfect to share. The Pork Ribs were juicy, full of flavour and falling of the bone. The sauces they used for both dishes were so delicious too and was the perfect amount of sweet and salty. The hardshakes were to die for too, the Salted Caramel one had a stronger taste of alcohol than the Oreo one but both were an amazing balance. It was a bit sticky to hold since the whipped cream ended up dripping on the sides but there's nothing else I can criticise. The jazzy, busy, warm ambience heightened the experience and their bathroom are super clean too (always a bonus). I would highly recommend this place to all jazz lovers and people who want to feast on delicious food at a decent price :)
Food - 5/5
Ambience - 5/5
Service - 5/5

Food was ok but nothing memorable. The place and decor looked amazing. Not a fan of the hight of the tables and was too overly casual with sharing tables. We did not know what to expect and have left feeling that Orleans wasn’t a place for us.

However the music was very entertaining and the service was amazing. Definitely food to enjoy over plenty of drinks to cut down the fat and oils it was cooked in.

Have been here multiple times and it has always been a good time. The atmosphere is very nice, good balance of crowded and yet intimate with live music. The lighting is quite dim however so photos are not the best. The food is great, the fried chicken waffle and the stack are both delicious and very good comfort food for any time in the day. The cocktails are also very good for a readonable price. Would go again!

The new chicken waffle burger was pretty good! The waffles were nice, though a bit eggy tasting and soggy... I was expecting a nice crunch. The salad was refreshing and the bacon was flavourful. I enjoyed the fried chicken the most because it just made the whole burger taste like heaven!

Went here for a quick lunch with some friends last Wednesday. We ordered the $12 lunch special(waffle stack and oreo/milk hardshakes). They tasted absolutely amazing. Our waitress was super lovely and always had a smile on her face. We all complimented her at the end of meal haha. I definitely would come back here!

Enjoy Southern barbecue without the hassle of getting separated from your children at the border!
Venue is refreshingly free of unecessary walls. Music that night was quite obnoxious, but maybe that was part of the authentic American vibe.

Ordered the waffle stack and 2 hardshakes between 2 people. The ambience of this place is interesting, it's cosy and relaxed but feels a bit more sophisticated and vintage than your average bar. The service was quick and friendly and our orders came through pretty quickly. The salted caramel hardshake was really good, not too overpowering and it didn't get sickly towards the end. I had a small sip of the smores shake and it was equally as good. The waffle stack was massive, the presentation was nice except it was very difficult to keep it upright while eating it. The curly fries have really nice seasoning although it did get a bit repetitive by the end. Between 2 people, the stack was possible but extremely difficult to finish. Although the stack was pretty good, you could almost definitely get better of the individual components elsewhere and you're really just paying for the novelty of having a huge stack of multiple different things. The salad waffle (waffle with coleslaw) at the bottom was notoriously difficult to finish and was not a great combination (although that may be due to the fact that both of us were extremely full by this point).

— update Thursday 1 November 2018 —

Came here for their waffle Wednesday lunch special. The shake was sickeningly sweet (not sure which one, it was a Halloween “graveyard” shake), but almost all of us felt quite sick from just the sheer amount of sugar. The chicken and waffles were alright but the syrup was also a bit overpowering. Each ingredient on its own was good but the meal combined made for a sickly combination that left us all feeling just a bit unwell lol.

Had the fried chicken waffles for the first time over a year ago and it was amazing! At the time they also had deep fried okra and it was interesting.. hehe Definitely will be back when i return to work nearby in the next month or so!

Heard so much about it and drove past many times .
Checked the menu out sounded so tempting tried calling to book about 11 times left messages no reply back online system is terrible .
Decided to have dinner elsewhere and go there for some dessert to
Taste their “life changing pies”
After living in America and knowing what good southern pies should taste like this was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.
Pies where anything but life changing had the cherry and pecan pie both thin and small taste was average almost seemed reheated and not what expected.
I think since they have only 3 desserts all pies they should put more thought in to it .
Place was dark dirty and uninviting more like a dark pub then a restaurant staff were not very friendly over all disappointing not going back .

Always love the chicken waffles here. However, flavour aside, they have come out slightly colder and slighty drier than they ought to on multiple occasions - especially the chicken waffle stack which was almost room temperature on a non-busy night.

I have visited Orleans on a few occasions – mainly for their Waffles with Fried Chicken and Maple Chili Syrup (a special lunch deal on Wednesdays, which, by the way, is awesome) and at night when they have live jazz music. You can also sit at their bar and have cocktails and small plates, or go there for a delicious Southern meal, complete with dessert. Orleans, located on Customs Street East in Britomart, does all this and more.

Customer service in this joint could use some training - twice now Orleans have lost or confused my order with another table... and both times when I enquired into the issue, I was sassed with a good dose of sarcasm by the management "Isn't it funny what being patient will achieve" she says walking off, after a 30 minute wait for some lost chips... or "I hope that one extra minute wait wasn't too much for you" after our order was confused with the table next to us. When we mentioned the incident to other staff.... she told us they were understaffed, stressed and that we should "get better attitudes". I get it, hospitality is stressful, but delivering bad service and then projecting that stress on to your customers is lowering the bar even further and descending into outright rudeness. Otherwise the food and atmosphere is good - chicken waffles are delish, and the curly fries are amazing.

Went here on a Tuesday night. Arrived about 15 minutes before kitchen closed for cooking. Ordered the Waffle Stack, Pork Belly, Corn bread, a jug of Sangria & All desserts. Desserts were all equally lovely, although it wasn't a decent slice considering the price. The Waffle stack was warm. Nothing on it was hot. Chicken was room tempreture. The deep fried pickles were limp. Bowl wasnt filled' with curly fries and rings. Seems like i got the ends of nights' leftover food thrown together on my plate. None of the layers were consistent. Pork belly dish had bad plating. Hard to see a dish especially a pork brlly fish be served in such a way where rhe belly isn't the start of the show. Wish the Chef made more of an effort for visual effects as well as producing great tasting food. Corn bread was the driest I've tried. Sangria needed more alcohol. Regardless of my rating, the food was a huge let down, but the atmosphere and staff were very lovely.

Came to Orleans for my birthday, left disappointed. Friendly lady who seated us and took our order, however all the other waiters could not be bothered. Ordered our food, 45 minutes later had to ask for how far our food was. Eventually came out and they forgot one of our dishes, apparently the chef had dropped the plate in the kitchen. Pretty bad service considering it was a Monday night at 7.45pm...would hate to think what it would be like on the weekend.

The food was actually quite nice just a pity the service was terrible.

Such a beautiful place and really unique as well.
The main reason my partner and I came here was because of the Waffle Stack, and oh my goodness it is something everyone who loves fried chicken and bacon has to try. It is full of calories but it is so worth it. The flavours are indescribable. You just have to try it for yourself and you will know what I mean. Something I will definitely come back for at Orleans. It is mouth watering good 🤤🤤

Ambience 4.5/5
Service 4/5
Food 5/5

Went in for Waffle Wednesday lunch.
Got fried chicken and waffles for half the normal price today. Fried chicken was tender and crispy on the outside. Portion size was decent. The waffles were soft on the inside and the sauce was different to what I expected. I tasted two different sauces mixed together. Probably not my preference for the sauce that was put on top of the waffles, but everything else was perfect. Would go again to try other items on menu.
NOTE: they ask you for your ID when entering.

Long standing southern style cuisine restaurant & bar. Really good drinks /cocktails menu. Also some milkshakes (including alcoholic). Not my thing but apparently nice.
Fave dishes are the curly fries, chicken & waffles, po boy & Pork belly. Deserts are also nice.
Service is ok & restaurant can be quite dark inside but otherwise ok

Came here not too long after the lunch time rush, staff were very polite and explained the chicken and waffle deal which was good value considering our some of our sides were $10 and were a very small portion. Food was ok borderline luke warm, and waffles tasted very chewy and eggy atmosphere was good. All in all a average rating

Staff were awesome, very attentive and friendly. Atmospherere lively with live music and buzzing with customers. Food not my style (we had the waffles) but definitely interesting. Hope to revisit and try the rest of the menu.

This place is a sham.
Came here tonight expecting what they sell online, a laid back southern style restaurant with a blues band etc. What we got was a glorified pub with fake wooden facades on the windows and a terrible dj playing extreamly loud, shite music literally 3 steps from our table.

The dj was so loud that i now have a sore throat from talking to the person next to me and throbbing, hot ears from the volume. We SAW the band playing on stage but we couldn't hear ANYTHING due to the dj.
Apparently they own both places so why employ a blues band and a dj literally within 50 meters of each other? Have some respect for the blues musicians you employ.
We asked to be moved, no luck. Could the door be closed? No, cause they dont even have air con.

Its pretty obvious this place is a gimmick. How they have gotten such glowing reviews i don't know. Maybe the foods good but we didn't get to taste any.

This was the worst restaurant/bar experience ive ever had. I would not recommend anyone go there and the owners should be ashamed.

The chicken and waffles here are amazing!!! Love it, however the other dish I had was good, above average but not like omg I gotta have that again. Nice atmosphere and decor. Service was great too!! Worth a try definitely, well especially if you get the chicken and waffles. Yummmmm

Orleans has the potential to be a great American food representative in New Zealand, but I find them to fall short a lot in my personal experiences. Fried chicken is the highlight of course, but the waffles are usually very poorly executed. One time they were almost raw and I just did not have them, it was doughy and floury on the inside. I've only had one decent waffle dish with them out of my 4 times being here. And other people seem to have the same opinion.
They do great crack fries and the salted caramel milkshake tastes majestic, however, the milkshakes are a bit lighter than many places. And also, The hardshakes are always there for you when you need them.

I came here with my girlfriends for a quick catch up, the athmosphere was perfect, food was pretty good we had the waffle stack recommended by the friendly waiter which was awesome enought for 3 starving girls to share...it is easy to get messy with this plating but we loved it ...highly recommended

Came here for an anniversary date.. we didn’t book and it was really busy which was okay. Enquired for a table to get told we could dine if we found a table outside ourselves. Managed to share a table with a kind couple. Food was great but service not as much..

We went here on a Thursday night and we were amazed by the speedy service of food. We took our son with us for dinner and as this was our first time we didn't know that they would have a live band performing that night. So if you have little ones, it might be better to go for lunch. Otherwise food was amazing, and service was OK. On our way out the door we ordered a milkshake for our son and were told to wait in the smokers court yard to pick it up. This didn't make any sense to us, so we left.

We haven’t even received our meals and already feeling like we shouldn’t eat here! When we first walked in we were asked for ID’s yet people walking in after us did not get asked. The table next to us got the full low down of the menu and all we got asked was “Are you ready to order”. The customer service is shocking considering we’re spending upwards of $60 for 2 people. Absolutely disgraceful. We thought we’d try this place as we’ve never dined here before. We will be happy to take our money elsewhere. Regardless of whether the food is good or not it’s not worth the bad customer service.

Once we finally got our meals we soon realised that the $36 waffle stack was nothing but waffles with 2 bits of bacon, 4 small pieces of dry fried chicken, potato balls and deep fried vegetables(we couldn’t figure out what it was). The bottom of the plate was FULL of curly fries. This is only worth $15 at the most. We also ordered the potato salad and tiger prawns. We will never come back here again nor recommend it to anyone

The staffs are attentive , Chicken waffles and curly fries are awesome. The portion size of the Prawn stuffed flat fish is very small. Also it was just OK for the price. I will surely recommend anyone to go for the waffles but not for the fish.
