Review Da Vinci's Italian Restaurant - Auckland Central

We stopped by for dinner as it was conveniently located close to my workplace. The entrance is located down the stairs on the side of the building. The place looks quite nice and has a nice interior. It wasn't busy when we got there so we were able to get a table. The menu has quite a few interesting items, and lots of pizza and pasta options. We started with the pizza bread first. It was quite nice and garlicy. It also had a nice crispness and chewiness to it. I went with the spaghetti Da Vinci. It was a pesto based pasta with a bit of spice and bits of chicken. I quite liked it because of the heat but it wasn't very spicy. I also tried the spaghetti and meatballs and thought that the sauce was a bit on the tart side. We had the chocolate cake for dessert and that was quite nice with the cream and ice cream. It was a nice place for dinner, particularly if you are craving Italian food.

We ordered 2 prosciutto pizzas, one with white base and one with tomato sauce, and fries. Everything was pretty good and probably they would have tasted even better eating them at the restaurant instead of take away.

We had a large table of 13. Booking was a breeze and they were really nice to deal with all of our changes. They brought us out appetisers early to keep us out of trouble. We had steaks, salmon filets, pizza, spaghetti, gnocchi, penne and lasagne. Everyone was STOKED on their meals. They all came out at the same time and it was seriously delicious. Beautiful sauces, traditional flavours cooked to perfection. They gave us a vegan and vegetarian option. We are a rowdy bunch of young work colleagues and they kept us quiet with our mouths and tummy's full. Yum yum pigsbum

Really nice restaurant for who enjoy Italian food, and people that work there are fantastic and courteous.

Had the Eye Fillet Al Pepe, steak was cooked to perfection, absolutely melted in your mouth, my partner had the carbonara with chicken and that was mouthwatering. Prices for the quality of food were reasonable and the service was excellent, large selection of nice wines, only bad point was the poor selection of beers, other than that the experience was overall 5 star!

Tried this restaurant for lunch today, we ordered Chicken risotto 🍗 and Hawaii pizza 🍕. Food is ok, service is nice and close to Skycity 😄 +64 9-365 1266

Exceptional service and food. Staff was very friendly. The Calimari is a must try.

This place is a hidden treasure. We stumbled across it during a walk, and it was so inviting we booked a table and went for dinner. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. They even joined in with our laughs and made the experience fantastic. But then we tried the food..... That was heavenly. Served really fast, but there was no lacking of the quality. Will happily recommend to anyone in the area. Next time we are in Auckland, I would love to go again. Thank you for providing us an awesome experience on our weekend away!

The wife and I felt like some good Italian food and we were not disappointed when we found this little gem of a restaurant. Opting for the takeaway option we got the chicken pesto gnocchi pasta, a procuttio pizza and the world famous garlic pizza bread. It's just a shame that I can only rate this 5 stars and not more. The pizza was light, fluffy and the flavor was fantastic The garlic pizza bread, even mumma would have been proud and as for the pasta.... I'm going to attempt to make this at home 🤤 And the icing on the cake was the friendly and welcoming staff. Great work team !

Amazing Italian flavour. Super kitchen skills make amazing food. Our pizza was delightful crisp and flavourful. Slightly hard to locate - behind and below another restaurant. Staff were naturally helpful, friendly and intelligent. So impressed!

Food is incredible and so, so reasonably priced. Everything is amazing; if you go with a group of friends, every customer will be satisfied. Lovely waitstaff, the nicest, friendliest people. Definitely will come here again!

Love it. Cute off street location that makes you feel like you're literally stepping off the vicola to your local Italian eatery. We had the classic spaghetti Bolognese and garlic bread. Authentic, excellent texture and presentation. To get the quintessential meal so right, we were very impressed. Highly recommended.

Very reasonable prices for what you ordered. Decent wine list and very friendly staff. The meal came out prompt, we were only waiting just enough between entrees, mains & dessert to have some pleasant conversation and rest between courses. All-in-all I would say this is definitely one to take a look at, especially if you enough good Italian food. P.S. Try the Tiramisu, the best one I've had in years!

I'm Italian and this is my favourite Italian restaurant in New Zealand!! Big portion and amazing taste! Family owned by lovely people! They just had the other restaurant closed due to City Rail Link, so is good to come and support great people that work hard !!

Went to Davincis for dinner . Surprisingly quiet, did t need to book, despite that, the service was fantastic and the staff were ao lovely and friendly The lasagne was delicious and the creamy chicken fettuccine was bang on! The music was authentic Italian and the atmosphere was very well designed 👌 I don't understand why this place was not booming... if you feel like a lovely date night or just want some decent food and somewhere nice to go, give Davincis a try. Well worth it

The decor, the food, the price the location. Everything was perfect. The staff was quick to show me to table, given straight away was some complimentary garlic bread. As a large group the food ordered was alot but it was delivered quicker then expected. Tried some salmon and it was just perfect the saltyness of the sea was still present and not over cooked. The chicken risotto was tasty too but with little chicken, you can barely see or taste the difference between it and the mushroom risotto. The staff was friendly, helpful and could quickly clear the table without disturbing the group's conversation. Overall a wonderful experience.

It's a pain to walk up Queenstreet but you'll be greeted with a very homey romantic restaurant that's suitable for couples or with a few family members. Food taste is guaranteed and it's me and my friend's best italian restaurant
FoodieBeast
A small tip - Though the wait staff were friendly and pleasant. It can get a little annoying when you wait long periods to place an order as no one comes. Likewise if you would like another drink. Along with the dessert menu - no one asked us. Possible loss of sales for the business as well as it's not a good look as a customer to have to keep asking for these things.
Emma
Good food but recommend not going here if you’re in a hurry, staff forgot our order. Also they were working working out clothing, which is weird for a restaurant that looks more high end

Food is excellent. Good ambience and friendly service!!

Would come here for the ambience! The restaurant's architecture and deco have very warm vibes and the food was delicious - we ordered a range of pastas and pizzas.

I had a dinner last night. I ate homemade meatballs pasta and it was very delicious, and thank you for cheerful service. I recommend this restaurant.

Ordered the spaghetti chilli prawn, pepperoni pizza and friend ordered lasagne

All were extremely delicious with the pasta being perfectly cooked and the pizza crust having the perfect balance between chewy and crispy.
Personally found the spaghetti chilli prawn lacking the heat factor that was wanted and expected but that may just come down to personal taste

Friend found lasagne very delightful and it also came with salad as a side which was a bonus

Overall great restaurant with delicious food and friendly service

Would definitely recommend
“Dailee” 25% Off Zomato Gold
Delicious and reasonably priced lunch menu. Only $15 for fresh, tasty basil gnocci and $17 for mushroom risotto. Garlic pizza bread $9, average, won’t order that again. Portion of pasta is generous. Service ok.

Came here as a big group there was maybe 25 of us and they accommodated us all very well. The food was absolutely exceptional and considering the price for the quality I was getting I was blown away. The only down fall was that 5 of ordered the scallops risotto but they only had enough scallops for 4 therefore I missed out. Instead I got the mushroom one as shown in the pics

Stopped by DaVinci's for their $15 Express lunch!
Great service, excellent pizza, beautiful decor and all for $12.5. Great for a quick lunch in the area! Will be back!
#italian #mpreviews #pizza #auckland

Disgusting. The boss here took the tip I gave to the waitress. It sickens me to see greedy people like that. I really wish people would sincerely say something about it to the boss. I would never recommend this place to anyone.
Azra
The food is pretty average. I ordered the ravioli and it was saturated with parmesan cheese which made it a bit nauseating. The pizzas look amazing but there's only one size and they're quite small for the price you pay. Generally the portion sizes are more on the smaller size. The atmosphere is cute and romantic. Honestly it's not a bad place at all though and I'd recommend checking it out if you're nearby.
Jessica Burton
Very cute restaurant. Atmosphere is super lovely. Felt very rushed by the waitress serving us. Had been in the restaurant about 10 minutes and she had already asked us twice if we were ready to order food. Food arrived fast but one meal was incorrect. Portions are quite small but very delicious. Will be going back for the taste.

Such an amazing restaurant! I can‘t believe I have not found it earlier as it is so convenient to go for a quick lunch during the week. I ate the pesto mushroom gnocchi which were absolutely delicious and only cost $11.50! Even got a yummy complimentary starter which consisted of some small pieces of bread and an olive dip. I can totally recommend this place and will definitely be back again to try some of their other dishes.

I tried this place on my birthday and just loved it. It was nice cozy environment. food is amazing and staff are very friendly. i would rate this place 4.5.

Sitting on my balcony watching and enjoying the view, when suddenly a guy whom looked like a waiter comes out the back with a frying pan and starts hitting and wacking an innocent black bird out of the bush absolutely disgusting behavior. Was doing no harm whatsoever struggling to fly. Was around 2.30pm animal cruelty is NOT on.
Zoe The Paranoid
We ordered the food early in this morning, which supposed to be delivered at 12:45. Around 1 o'clock we called the store again and were told that they don't do delivery. We then walked to the store to pick up then on our way we got told again that the driver left already.

Extremely poor food portion, please look at the pictures.

The food is really good quality. The staff were friendly, and kind. The wait time for the food could have been a bit quicker. The restaurant was clean and tidy. Defs would go again.

I had a great time last night at Da Vinci’s, and was grateful that we were able to get a table at 6pm on a Friday night without booking. It’s easy to see why this place gets packed with work groups and families for dinner: the food is tasty, it’s well-priced, and the overall atmosphere here is warm and down-to-earth.

To start, our group of three split a Da Vinci Salad. This worked out well portion-wise, and we enjoyed the range of fresh veges before our carb-loaded mains came out.

Da Vinci’s pasta range doesn’t feature many white sauce dishes, so for my main I stuck with the fettuccine carbonara (with chicken) – which I loved! It was filling, wasn't too creamy, and had lots of thin-but-flavourful bacon pieces scattered throughout the sauce. I wasn’t offered pepper when this dish arrived, and this is a shame because I think that could’ve made the dish even better.

I also tried two of their pizzas (Margherita and Sicilian). Both were enjoyable, and in particular I noticed that the bases were cooked perfectly and had the right level of 'chewiness'.

I found the service at Da Vinci’s to be genuinely warm, but a little bit inattentive at the start. For instance, they were a bit slow with getting menus out – but maybe it was because they had to attend to a large group that arrived almost immediately after me.

For our group of three, we paid $76 (no alcohol) – which I think is great value for what we got. Apparently, the menu and prices are slightly different here compared to their Albert Street branch.

Overall, I would be happy to come back if I’m craving Italian comfort food when I’m in town. Next time I would try their pasta with the mushroom and brandy sauce or the spicy tortellini, and check out some of their seafood entrées too.

Loved it. Great ambience, food, staff and location. Feel like I've uncovered a hidden gem of Auckland. Delicious food for a great price. Atmosphere was awesome. We had pizza, pasta, desert and wine and it was all delicious!

This restaurant was recommended by our hotel as we'd just arrived and it was quite late so we wanted something closeby. Food was lovely, I had the pesto gnocchi (amazing!) and hubby had the spaghetti meatballs. We got tiramisu to take away too. Would definitely return 😀

Stopped by for lunch to meet up with friends. They were very accommodating when we asked for a table outside since they hadn't set it up yet.

They have $10 lunch specials on the menu. so for four meals and a bottle of prosecco came to a bit over $20 for four people.

The food was nice as was the service although I personally found the portions a bit small.

Came here last night for dinner. Cute little restaurant and really friendly staff.
Entrees weren't amazing, and quite expensive and the portions were very small. We got the prawn spaghetti & the bruschetta.
For a main I chose the salmon penne / which was one of the tastiest pasta dishes I've ever had, the salmon was so fresh and cooked to perfection.
The pizza was average and nothing special at all.
Was quite expensive too with a bill of $97.
Probably won't be back.

I'm sorry to say that I wasn't overly impressed by Da Vincis. The decor is lovely and the restaurants ambience was nice - it was cosy and the red and white checkered tablecloths were charming - but I didn't feel the customer service was very friendly. The waiters and waitresses appeared a little harried and not too fussed with us, which I'm normally fine with, but I expected a little more from a nice restaurant such as this.

The food was average - we ordered a prosciutto bread thing and minestrone soup for entrees, and a gnocchi and a risotto for mains. The bread was nice but not amazing, and the minestrone was quite surprising as it was just a clear broth with a few sliced vegetables in it and 4 pieces of pasta. My boyfriends gnocchi was enjoyable, but I wasn't wowed by my scallop risotto.... The scallops were lovely but I felt like the risotto wasn't as creamy or rich as I would have liked it, and have had better risotto elsewhere. It almost seemed a bit undercooked?

In short, it was an okay dining experience but for such a well presented restaurant I was expecting more from the customer service and food. Still on the hunt for my favourite Italian restaurant!

Wow!! This spot is a gem!! Nestled off the road side almost hidden but I'm glad we found it after 18 months living less than 1 block away. Delicious food, cute cosy decor and friendly service. This is defiantly our new local!!!

Excellent Eye Fillet! Really enjoy it! The staff is nice as well. Highly recommended place if you want to have a romantic dinner with delicious food!

Saving grace here is the food is tasty (would recommend the three cheese bread, three cheeses - how could you not?!) and the pasta dishes were nice.
Service wasn't great, I took a bottle of bubbles, asked for a champagne glass and the waitress advised she had to check as I probably couldn't have it since they are BYOW only (not sure what she thinks champagne is?!). The host finally came over ten minutes later and put a champagne glass down without a word leaving me to open my own bottle. Asked for ice buckets, didn't get any... Don't want to ramble on
Summary = food yum, service average at best.

This restaurant provides lovely lunch specials on Monday to Thursday, all pastas, pizzas and risottos are around $10, my favourite is their risotto scallops.
Sinead Brady
An Italian place that is unable to cook a basic pasta. Under cooked, browned in a pan, the pasta as well lacked any flavor! It's amazes me how this place still exists with its inability to cook. Any amateur is capable of cooking pasta why can't a qualified chef do so. Very disappointed!!!!
Izzy Mendoza
Hidden away on City Road, Da Vinci has a pretty good ambience going for them. Their pizzas in particular are pretty good and worth it for the price, but the service at times is slow. A good alternative for lunch if you're feeling fancy.
Danny
I have been here a few times for their lunch special - $10-12 for most of the mains. The pasta here is pretty good (probably the best in the CBD in this price range) but the pizza is quite average.

The interior sitting space is really nice and the service has always been very professional. With the limited number of good and affordable Italian places in the CBD, I will definitely be coming here again!
Razelle Icaro
The entrance was a bit difficult to find but it's located really close to uni so that's pretty convenient (no need to walk up the hill to get back to uni) they also have $10 lunch specials during the weekdays which I think is such a good deal! I recommend the spaghetti bolognese with meatballs- I probably prefer it the most. ZomatoStudents

A very nice Italian restaurant in a quiet city location. I love the quaint and homey atmosphere inside, and the grand looking bar with an impressive alcohol selection behind. The place was mostly empty when we visited, but didn’t feel too deserted as the tables are quite cozy. They do a $10 lunch special on certain weekdays, which makes the food unbelievably affordable! The serving sizes aren’t huge, but the meals are filling enough and definitely taste better than plenty of other cheaper Italian places I’ve tried.

Can't go past the Spaghetti "Double Fresh" at this reliable restaurant. Wonderful Al Dente Spaghetti with loads of fresh snapper pieces and fresh tomato, perfectly seasoned. Staff are friendly and accommodating and food is consistently good.
PancakePanda
Had high expectations for this place as it was highly recommended by one of my friends, but the my pasta was bland and the serving size was extremely small. Would have needed at least 2 plates to fill me up and I am an petite Asian girl.... I think that says something here. Salmon was also overcooked and way too salty. For a high quality restaurant it advertises itself to be, the chef must have been new or just your average joe cook.

Presentation was average at best, they definitely need to know how to plate their food better. Would be nice if the staff asked where you would like to sit- considering that the entire place was nearly empty!! There were two other tables dining for the whole duration of our meal. Dessert was okay, nothing too exciting.

I feel like a meal at an Italian restaurant is linked to the term just like a mamma would have made it.

The food at da vincis definitely reminded me of something a mamma might have made only if your mamma wasn't Italian and was a big fan of generic pasta sauces

The food was ok, however if you were only a passable cook you could make equally as good a meal with a jarls sauce and your own oven
Emma Magee
Most definitely my favourite Italian restaurant in Auckland :) always telling my friends they need to try this place out, absolutely delicious variety of pastas and entrees
Bizcochito
Cheap and cheerful with yummy food! Great service, portions aren't massive but express lunch menu is well priced so it all works out in the end.

Had dinner there with friends last night food ok it's not a byo any more which is sad, gone is the reasonable price that it use to be, the bread for starters had no flavour the cannaloni which i use to order and to die for was just ok the sauce watery and lacked the x factor the da vinci steak was cooked to perfection but still lack the quality that it use to .Cost was a 160 per couple including wine believe there are better places to eat for that price the waitress was OK friendly but could learn a lot in the hospitality trade would probably not go again or recommend. bring back the old DA VINCi and BYO
Ben
Da vincis is not haute cuisine, but solid and dependable. The service is excellent and attentive but not claustrophobic. The menu is large with plenty of choice and atmosphere is laidback and pleasant.
Iain Spanhake
Da Vinci's is in a great central location on Albert Street, Auckland. My wife and I received a warm welcome into the restaurant. Inside has a beautiful, romantic, intimate atmosphere with a classic feel, cool bar and comfortable seating. Service was quick and efficient. Then there was the food - Potato Gnocchi was easily the best I had, while my wife enjoyed her delicious Chicken Fettuccine, and we shared a sensational Tirra Missu as dessert. All of this at a very reasonable price. We'll definitely be back and we highly recommend it to others.
Riddhi
Had a birthday dinner celebration here a few days ago. The atmosphere is nice and the decor is lovely!

Staff are extremely friendly. The food was average, I found the portion sizes to be quite small for the price I was paying but it was decent tasting, nothing extraordinary. I ordered the penne scallops for $20.50. The others found their meals to be good.

Be warned the restaurant does a $15 cakeage fee.

Sadly, after a mostly decent meal our experience was spoiled by one terrible starter and even worse service when we chose to give feedback. The bad service at the end is what encouraged me to write this review.

We had chicken livers and minestrone to start. The livers were nice but the soup was, and I can't stress this enough, terrible. If it had been watered down stock with a few chopped carrots and courgettes it might have had some flavour. It didn't. It was watery, vaguely vegetable flavoured liquid and very unlike any minestrone soup (or even soup) I've ever had.

We were prepared to accept one bad course out of the meal but we decided to give our feedback anyway. At 10 dollars for hot vegetable water we weren't overly happy and if we were going to return in future I'm sure our feedback would be appreciated. It was not. Cue the debate with the Italian owner/manager. We were told the recipe is watered down to suit kiwi tastes and us Europeans should understand this. I agreed in that some dishes in New Zealand may be altered to local taste but the fact remained that the soup wasn't just not minestrone but not very good at all. We didn't, and couldn't finish the soup as it was so bad. This discussion went on for a few minutes up to the conclusion of the bill - which we were invited to settle in full, including the price of the terrible soup.

Da Vincis, you can do better. Change the soup and listen to customer feedback when you get it. It was constructive feedback, given for free, and it would only have taken a small measure to take the soup of the bill. Also, you seemed to assume we were tourists and whether this was an excuse to provide a reduced service I don't know. But the service, and the soup, could have been better...

I have been here quite a few times for the $10 lunches. The place is tucked away, but fairly cute and the food is good. It's also close to uni, so much better to go and get a $10 meal from there than spend $13 on a kebab at the uni quad, and it's cheap enough to get drinks too.

Favourite is definitely the Fettuccine Noci, it's probably one of the nicest creamy chicken fettucine's I have ever tasted. We've tried a few other pastas and pizzas from there but none are as good as the Fettuccine. The quattro pizza is pretty nice too though.

The staff are friendly enough, but sometimes hard to understand as they have Italian accents.

We also got caught out once by going there for the $10 lunch on a Friday, when it isn't on, so be careful about that! We had to pay quite a lot more. It's still fairly reasonable, but the $10 deal definitely makes it well worth a visit.
VCashera
Food was reasonable, but service very average. Waiter had to repeatedly return to the table to double-check orders, and got drinks orders wrong on at least two occasions. When asked for a glass of wine, she brought a bottle and opened it, thus costing the table more than expected or desired.

Food was nothing to write home about.

Probably would not dine here again, unfortunately. Have been a few times in the past and enjoyed it; has management changed? Or was this just a bad night? Unclear, but since most recent reviews restaurant has definitely slipped a few notches.
Sandi Oliver
Party of 8 we dined here on Thursday night. Service was friendly. Calamari salad was divine. I had steak with saffron potatoe which was sublime and my partner had chicken parmigiana. Out of this world! A few years ago my step son took me here for dinner and it was great then too. Guys you run a great operation and if there was a 6th star I would award you it. Can't wait to come back.
Rebecca
That is what we call great and authentic italian food!!! Many places try to do the same, but fail on delivering the consistency of the italian mamma flavours.... A great charming restaurant that I will definetely be back!!!
The Pumpkin & Walnut Ravioli is simply delicious!!

Went here for my friends birthday dinner last week, and it was a really nice cosy atmosphere with really friendly staff. They made us feel relaxed and did their best to equip to our needs.
The food was absolutely delicious, however I will say that we were left disappointed as the portions were very small. We were all left hungry after our meal finished and we were expecting abit more for our money.
Love this place, great taste and staff but unsure whether I would return or not purely due to the portions.
Max Tuzzolino-Smith
This place was absolutely amazing. I took my girlfriend there for her birthday and it was absolutely delicious.
We started with the Cannelloni entrée, which was absolutely spectacular.
For her main she got a very nice cabonara/bacon dish and I got the black pepper sauce steak, which was the best steak I have ever tasted in my whole life.
My girlfriend originally wanted a chicken dish, but unfortunately they ran out of everything chicken... But that doesn't stop this restaurant from being anything short of excellent.
Tania Lee
Loved this place! i was looking to eat at La Porchetta but couldn't be walking as far so settled for here lol, was definitely a nice surprise! Although a little more expensive than Porchetta definitely worth it. I had the meat lovers pizza and it is by far the BEST meatballs I have ever had. Tender and moist, (unlike most which are always dry). the ambience allows for a casual dress but still good enough for a special occasion :)
Louise
Had lunch there with a friend.

Nice ambiance, great decor.

I had the pasta of penne with clams, cooked in white wine. felt that the pasta had a very light, clean, delicate taste with slight tangy hints of the small tomato pieces, good to bring out the fresh taste of clams.

Some people unused to this style of cooking to bring out the natural seafood taste may find this dish a bit bland though. It is all a matter of personal taste.

Pasta was cooked to perfection, properly al dente.

My friend had a beef lasagne. He enjoyed it very much. Texture wise, I am not sure about it, he seemed to have problems eating the base of the lasagne... it was stuck hard to the plate so he was sawing away at it.

Tiramisu for dessert was unfailingly delicious. Very well-done.

Definitely a nice place I would return to for a lunch for 2 again. Came to about 25 dollars splitting bill. He had dessert too. All in for an Italian Restaurant, it has a very solid standing in its food quality, service and prices.
Ben Langman
My partner took me here for my birthday on Saturday and we were thoroughly impressed! Great service, great atmosphere, great wine, great food! A+ cannot put into writing what a fantastic restaurant this is and how special it made my birthday night.

cheers guys :)

Went for lunch today. Nicely set out, good service and the gnocchi pesto was really good. However the $10 lunch portions are just too small! We all left hungry.
Noelia Gonzalez Quiñones
I had a lovely lunch here yesterday with my friend. The place is really gorgeous and cosy. The food was absolutely delicious, and super affordable with the $10 lunch specials. We had pizza bread for entree, which was very nice. As a main, I had past with roasted chicken and a creamy white sauce with walnuts - absolutely divine. I was so full by the end of it that I didn't have room for dessert! But I would love to come back next time to try it out.

Best choice! Fantastic staff, best authentic Italian food! Never dissaoointed! Highly reconmend dining here.Very well priced and a real treat. The steaks are the best in Auckland. Atmosphere is perfect foe both romance, family or even corporate.

After being fed up with those pretentious, arty and pricey fine dining restaurants,we came to DaVinci for a proper meal. This is exactly what we want - a solid and wonderful dining experience with great value. The wine list is an exciting bonus for our meal - extensive selection, resonable price and many by the glass. Friendly & efficient service.
Don't miss the Tiramisu, the best I have ever tried. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Mojito
Beautiful setting and beautiful food. Good service, very friendly!

Never fails to impress with reasonable prices &meals that make you feel you couldn't have cooked at home ( sauces are so tasty) attentive service and yes BYO! We return time and time again for good celebration dinners!
Megan Paul
Fantastic service, well laid out making for a great private dining experience.

The best steak we have ever had!

Highly recommend this restaurant to all lovers of fine Italian food - especially steak.

On a visit to Auckland recently we chose this restaurant because it was near our hotel and looked a bit special - and it was, for all the wrong reasons. We received the worst service I've ever experienced, almost comical if it wasn't so rude. Waitress let out a long-suffering sigh when we asked for the extra place that we'd booked, told us to "wait there" in the middle of the restaurant while she fixed it, stuff like that. Other staff seemed ok but it was really awkward whenever our waitress came, to argue with us about our orders or whatever. Waited 50 minutes for our meals which were pretty disappointing, left hungry. In the end we were just really embarrassed to have invited friends to eat there. Definately the worst part of our trip.
Robert Feigel
Very disappointing!

My wife and I shared an excellent entrée of big, juicy garlic prawns. The sauce was divine. The wine (a bottle of Dog Point Sav-blanc) was lovely and the service was friendly, efficient and prompt.

But we were both VERY disappointed with our mains! My Spaghetti al Vongole was so over-spiced with hot chili that there was no way I could taste the clams. And my wife's Spaghetti Bolognese was a disgrace. I tried a couple of mouthsful and found it mediocre and lacking in any character. But my wife's palate is far more developed than mine and her comment says it all, "If I wanted Dolmio I'd buy it at a supermarket." It was if the chef had dumped some mince in a saucepan full of a pre-prepared, bulk commercial sauce and smothered the pasta with it.

To Da Vinci's credit, however, the deserts were very good - although I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't prepared elsewhere and brought in. At $144.10 I can't say it was overpriced, but I'd much prefer to pay more for better Italian food. There is no way we'd ever eat there again.

I have to say I have only had their pizza and desert on three visits. The pizza's are very bare and you need to order extra toppings personally. Good service though and the deserts are very nice.

I had a dinner last Sat with my friends. Food was fantastic, drink was exclusive, and the service was really excellent, especially the Italian waiter.Good sized portion and resonalbe price. Will definitely return.
