Review Nahm - Auckland Central

Mario
Too many different flavours in the slow cooked beef soup. It was difficult to taste the crab in the crab fried rice. The Thai Milk Tea was beautiful. The Roti were good. Though we didn't enjoy the meals we had, we'd definitely love to try this place again.

Good vibe as always. The food was nice. Heaps of items to choose. We love the big table to fit our team members. The speed was amazing. The Tom Yum soup seemed a little bland for me though.

Took longer to decide from their impressive menu than for the food to come out.... very quick service. Cocktails were elborate and very tasty. Food, wow, best Thai I've tasted. Great lighting, friendly staff.... did I mention the amazing food!

I went to catch up with my friend here. Nahm is always good with food and atmosphere. But the day I went there was a live song playing. I like it though but it was very loud. I sat way back close to the kitchen and I still had to shout to talk. I think possibly trying to volume down a bit would be more pleasant. I looked around, mostly people love to have dinner here and love the food and they come with friends so they can have a bit of chat.

The food is good but it’s not the best. The environment is noisy. It is quite a big place to dine in. The staff are quite busy and unfriendly faces. Scared to ask for questions about the food because they are inpatient. I might not eat there for the next time.

Lovely place. Quick service and food great at the price. A bit noisy but likely because they were full of people enjoying themselves. Will go there again for sure.

Nice and cosy authentic Thai restaurant that is easily missed. Was seeking for a good thai meal and this was suggested to me by a Thai national in Auckland. The boat noodles tasted great with a slight NZ twist coupled with the thai ice tea. Simple and delicious fare

Great food and very cool location with a great vibe! Service staff could be better, the woman taking our order was very nice but the guy serving our food sort of just put the food on the table for us to distribute. Medium spice was not consistent amongst our dishes as one dish was very spicy. Still a good experience and would recommend!

I have tried just one dish from Nahm and that’s Thai Fried Rice. I’ve had the same thing twice. Once as a dine in, it was amazing but the next time ordered through Uber Eats and it was not so good. The veggies in the fried rice were raw like really hard to chew. So, I’m not sure if it was a one time thing. To break the tie, will have to try again some other time I guess. The service was great when we dined in. Also, couldn’t take many pictures this time.

Such an easy spot to drop by after evening events near Elliott Street, don’t go before events because wait times can be long. The staff make the dining experience an efficient affair if you get their attention. Perfectly sized portions for one, and an extensive Thai based drinks list with the sweetest selection. Also has very large tables, very suitable for large groups if you want to take like 15 of your friends. Allow plenty of time, as it can take 30 mins to 1 hour for food to come when it is busy.

This place has a lovely street vibe. Highly recommend for casual dinner or lunch.

The food here is quite tasty. Good variety and vegetarian options. Service can be a bit slow and portions are small for price. It also smelled like wet paint when I went there but it was before The shutdown so paint has probably dried ??

We went for a team lunch, the food took a while to get done but it was super yum. Definitely will be back.
I had a cashew nut with pork, and rice on the side.

I really liked the atmosphere and vibe from the restaurant. I also liked how nahm was able to fit the 8 of us. The food was pretty good and the pricing was pretty decent as well!

4.5/5 Taste
4/5 Display
4.5/5 Quantity
4/5 Customer Service

Superb Thai Restaurant in CBD.

Their food was just amazing and I was surprised how cheap they were compared to the quality. I obviously over ate but I didnt feel any regret.

Chilli basil tastes like my previous thai roommates home cooking. So it must be authentic! Friendly staff. Hidden gem
FoodieOodie95
Loved the food and service here. Staff are really sweet and food arrived fast to our table. Great interior and this is a hidden Thai gem in the CBD.

The food is authentic and absolutely delicious. I can't wait to go back. The meals come out at different times, but it's worth it. Customer service is excellent.

A lovely Thai restaurant tucked away on Elliot street. I’ve come here a few times and always order the creamy tom yum soup. I just love the broth so much it’s super addictive. I also love their mango sticky rice dessert. Service is great and the ambience is very nice.

Nahm offers some nice vegetarian options for lunch and dinner. The Tom Yum soup was flavourful and had a good level of spice. Portions sizes were decent, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxing.

Really not sure of the high average rating, one of my colleague came for dinner on a Friday night, and thought it was great. So we came for lunch. With all the lights on bright there wasn’t much atmosphere to speak of. Service wasn’t bad, but slow and the meals came out at different times, plus we ordered 2 of the same curry, but only 1 turned up. I want a Pad Kew Mao, but was told they don’t do one, instead I can order the pad see eew & they can add chilli. But when it came out there was no chilli at all, even as a pad see eew it was way too sweet. The beef was really dry. It was just not good. I think other people like their meals, but I definitely left not impressed.

I really like this place, the staff are nice and the food is excellent. I had the spicy fried rice and i was amazing. I remember having the chilli jam fried rice before and it was also reallu good.

Cost, warm and friendly thai fusion spot. Came here before a show at basement theater on a cold Thursday. Service was great and the food was awesome!
Nicole L
The restaurant was warm and cozy - really good vibe. My friend and I enjoyed everything we ordered. The summer roll duck entree was especially good.

Food is just average. The starters where quite small in portion for their prices. The restaurant is down in the basement. Good space and ambiance. However, there was only one waitress serving 5-6 tables. Although, food came fast. It took a while to ask for a new jug of water.

Went here for dinner today and the place is really pretty and really spacious. Tried chicken Pad Thai and it was really delicious. My friend’s meals were nice too! The portion size is perfect for the price. The service was nice as well!! Will be back next time to have lunch!!

Delicious! Never heard of this place before but my vegetarian friend suggested it. It's a bit dark, but beautifully decorated inside. I got the Tom yum noodle soup and asked for it to be mild and it was the perfect amount of spiciness. I drank all of the soup cos it was so yummy. For $16, it was also not overly expensive like other restaurants in the CBD. My friend got the char kway teow but vegetarian and also said it was really good. Service was great, staff was very friendly. I'll definitely be back!

Great visit to Nahm. We arrived early and there were plenty of seats, but it filled up fast.
Good service, both friendly & efficient.
We ordered the satay & Chicken wings which were both delicious.
For mains the pork stir fry was nice - have had better versions elsewhere but this was only $16.00.
Lots of other dishes to choose from meant something for all our party.

I visited Nahm on a windy Wednesday afternoon (around 2pm) when it was pretty empty. The food came out quickly and I absolutely loved the green curry! Served with chicken and veggies at a medium spice level, this very flavourful curry was creamy but not too rich (I was basically drinking the curry at the end). I appreciated the range of veges, but there could’ve been some smaller softer vegetables like mushrooms.

Overall, I think Nahm has potential and I’d be happy to come back again. The service could’ve been a bit warmer, but their menu is impressive – a good range of small dishes, mains, desserts and drinks.

Intimate setting below street level, with school desk like furnishings. Enough about the setting. The Food is the best Thai food I’ve had, it’s simply exceptional. Ive been here 3 times already. I’ve had the lamb shank, the curry consistency, rich texture, sweet taste is a must try and very filling. Tried the Bulgogi beef chilli and Basil great balance of favours and above the norm. Tied the Pork belly lava is also good. small improvements - the waitress didn’t say much or anything. During colder climate the always open entry stairs makes the place rather breezy and wish they had a mobile partition to block the wind coming in, as there’s not enough heaters to go around.

Visited this place a couple of months back . Totally loved it because of the relaxing vibe of the place, the restaurant is decorated with fairy lights and each table has a little candle which adds to the cosyness.

Did not order much during the first time around and so I waited to write a review. For the longest time I thought Nahm was one of my favourite restaurants in Auckland. However, on my second visit I was quite disappointed.

First let me start with the food, everytime I visit a Thai Restaurant I always order for the Satay Chicken, so I did the same here . I wouldnt complain about it , it was quite good. For appetisers we even ordered the rotis with the Satay sauce, so the rotis that were given to us were Frozen Rotis , they were not freshly made at the restaurant (you can find these frozen rotis in any of the Indian Stores around Auckland).

The mocktails we ordered were quite average as well. I cant remember the names now, but do not order for the one that has chilli as one of its ingredients,it tastes quite odd.

Coming to the Mains , we had the Green Thai curry, which was a bit on the sweeter side, it would have tasted really good if it wasnt that sweet.

We even ordered for the Chilli Basil Rice which was really really good, it had a smoky fried rice taste to it. All of us enjoyed this dish the most. For desert we ordered the sizzling chocolate lava cake, which is a good and safe choice to end a meal :)

So all in all we were reasonably satisfied with the food, but not the happiest.

I dont think I would visit this place again as I was quite disappointed with the Frozen Rotis and the Service at the restaurant. They take alot of time to get the food and also the staff is not quite friendly.
This place is under the busy Elliot Stables, and has a nice vibe to it. The seating was a bit uncomfortable with some people on seats and some on a long stool - you'd have to move the long stool in and out if one person wanted to go to the bathroom, so it was a little inconvenient.

Foodwise, the taste was alright, we ordered the Pad Thai, which was pretty good (as basic as it is), the portion size was a bit smaller than your typical Thai restaurant but that's not a big deal. We also got the Braised Beef Thai Herbs, which is advertised as beef cheek, but we got beef brisket - the server did not inform us that there would be a change, but it was pretty obvious when you saw the dish.
I also got the Thai Tea, it was absolutely amazing, and I would come back again just for the tea in all honesty.

The service was so-so, besides the beef cheek situation, everything else was fine!

Overall, not sure if I would come back for the food, cause theres plenty of other places around Elliot Stables that are pretty good too. (Besides the Thai Tea)

Service: 4/5
Food: 2/5
Ambience: 4/5

Went last night, food was overall great, the ambiance was lovely as well. The drinks however was not worth the pricing as it was really not suitable for the flavour profile of Thai food. The best plate of food was the fried rice noodles.

Have been here twice, it’s a bit late to write the review, but alright. Really good range of thai foods. I like basically all I’ve ordered so I assumed that all the food are all good. DESSERT!! I like it, always. Service also good. 4 stars is because I still feel there’s something missing
Sonya Prabha
Nice staff and ambience. However, the food we had ordered which was the green curry was very sweet and did not taste anything like a green curry. So we left feeling like we had dessert for dinner.

Been wanting to try this place for awhile!
I was pleasantly surprised by the decor, really cosy feel and relaxed vibe. Service was fast. We ordered the khao Soi, Pad Thai and Roti with Satay sauce. Dishes were authentic but would have preferred if the Khao Soi came with thick noodles instead of the thin egg noodles. Just a personal preference but I guess this is what they mean by ‘Thai with a twist’ right.Pad Thai was delicious and authentic. Im so glad I finally got to try this restaurant and I would return again. Total Bill NZ$42.

This place has got the best tasting Thai food in Auckland.
Price and food portions are reasonable and definitely tasted authentic, staff is friendly too.
We will definitely come back to this place.
My friends and I came here for dinner and had a great time. We ordered two entrees with naan bread and spring roll sliders. Unfortunately there was no deep fried chicken wings that night or else we would’ve ordered it. For the mains we had a green curry, which was a bit sweeter than I expected but good nonetheless. A Tomsum salad that was sweet and sour with a refreshing feel. The lettuce in the plate did feel a bit out of place and a slow cooked beef curry that had tender beef pieces. My favourite dish of the night was the pork fried rice which had just the right combination of flavours. The decorations inside is very nice with small light hanging around the walls. A good place for a date. My only gripe with this place is that The tables are quite thin so when you order many dishes ya hard to place around.

Food: 3/5
I got the Chilli Jam Fried Rice Crispy Pork. Lovely big portion. Needed more crispy pork.

Service: 5/5
Very friendly staff.

Ambience: 5/5
Lights hanging on the ceilings/walls, candles at every table and a dim setting. Very romantic and perfect for a dinner date.
Emily
Nahm is situated down a flight of stairs in a cool, dim lit placem i feel like it is the perfect setting for a date!
Anyway, I got the chicken green curry, and thought it was just the way I liked it.

My friend who got the lamb wanted it to be reheated and the lovely waitress took it away, and they remade the whole dish! We were not expecting that at all as it tasted perfect.

We were greeted regularly with the friendly waitress who topped up our water cups.

Everyone left happy and satisfied.

I will definitely recommend to my friends and I will be back!

This restaurant is at lower ground of elliot street. Had char kuey teow and pad thai, pad thai is quite good and thai milk tea too! The thai milk tea is nt overly sweet and taste quite authentic, one of the best thai milk tea you can find in auckland

Rating 3.5. First off, love the fit out with the little fairy lights hanging from the ceiling. Excellent mood lighting, perfect dinner setting. They also have little candles on each table to add to the ambience. Service was good, both staff working were friendly. I ordered the vegetarian green curry, $16 with rice included was a good price. Food came out quick and portion size was large. The curry was more of a soup almost, very liquidy and tasted watered down, not hugely flavourful. Definitely had better green curry before. Wouldn’t order again but am keen to go back and try something else on the menu as it may be one of those places that really depends what you order. Plenty of vegetarian options which is great for me, and there were also lots of gluten free options for my friend, all clearly labelled on the menu. Hopefully my next choice will be more rewarding next time.

Have ordered on Uber a few times previously - amazing food. Came for dinner tonight, gorgeous atmosphere, very friendly service and again incredible food (green curry and chicken cashew nuts). Crab rangoon is a MUST.

Really good Thai food with a twist. We had crispy chicken with cashew nuts and green curry. Brilliant food and full of flavours. This place is now our go to for Thai cravings 👌🏼🤙🏼

Nahm certainly IS "Thai With a Twist", as their slogan says, so if you're looking for an authentic Thai taste, this isn't the place for you. But if you're open to try new things, their menu offers varieties of small dishes and mains, vegetarian, gluten free and dairy-free options where each dish is fused with other Asian tastes.

My all time favorite dish would have to be the Char Kuay Teow, which is a Thai's Pad See Ew, but with Malaysian sambal chilli paste to give you a bit of a spicy hit.

This time we were recommended Chicken Satay and Chilli Jam Fried Rice with Crispy Pork. That satay sauce was absolutely sensational, so was the fried rice! Note to everyone though, entrees do not come with any rice, but all the mains (apart from noodle dishes) do. We also got Thai Tea with Condensed Milk and a small Tap Tiger (which is part of the Happy Hour until 6 pm).

Overall. Great ambience for enjoying your company instead of yelling across the table trying to have a conversation above all the noise. Service was great! Bookings and reservations are highly recommended on Fridays, as people started flowing in quite quickly.

Give it a try! :)

The thing that attracted me the most was the decor. It was beautiful and worth to put up on anyone’s Insta feed. The atmosphere felt quite romantic with dimmed lights and twinkle lights hung above. The ambience was amazing so I would say 9/10 because it was a little too dark to eat dinner in that light setting.

The food was amazing. I got the crispy chicken with cashew nuts. It was delicious but the only problem was there wasn’t enough chicken pieces. Ordered a mocktail, it wasn’t amazing but it was alright. I would say 10/10 for the crispy chicken with cashew nuts. Very keen to go back and try other dishes.

The service was quick and the waiter was nice. Service was 8/10.

Update: Came back again because I was craving for some Thai food and it was our friends birthday. I ordered the creamy Tom Yum soup and it was delightful, and left me wanting more again. We had a surprise birthday cake which they didn’t mind us leaving it in the kitchen and waiter was nice enough to light the candles up and bring it to us after dinner. It was my friends first time to Nahm and she’s definitely looking forward to coming back.

Me and my friend wanted to have lunch at a Thai place but I knew there wasn't much Thai food places in the Central area so I searched up Thai places on Zomato and saw this place and boy it did it the not disappoint. The main highlight for me and my friend was the chocolate brownie lava with milo sauce. It was one of the most delicious desserts I've tasted in my life which I'll talk more about later.

Environment: I really like the decor inside with the fairy lights. The wooden food benches made me feel as if I was eating someplace else in Asia but the ambiance was also comfy at the same time. Not too noisy inside.

Entrée: We had the Miang salmon first, not a big fan since it was alittle fishy and I would've preferred the black spoons like in the photos from here instead. 6/10.

Mains: After that, for mains my friend got the chicken fried rice and I got the Chilli Jam fried rice w/crispy pork. I expected more bits of crispy pork because the ratio of meat to rice was quite small. The serving size of the rice was a bit big for me to finish which was the same with my friend. Otherwise, it tasted nice, no overpowering flavours and was mostly balanced. I would give it a 7/10.

Dessert: The dessert was everything. We had the chocolate brownie lava w/vanilla ice cream. The milo sauce that went with it was poured around the brownie which was on the sizzling plate. The smoke from the plate also made me really like the presentation. The first bite was so yummy and smoky! I think most desserts should be put on a sizzling plate to boost the taste. The cold ice cream w/raspberry bits mixed with the hot brownie plus the milo sauce all balanced each other and the flavours were harmonious. Not too sweet and just enough. Like my friend said, "I would come back here just to get this." In which I will definitely get again once I've save up again. 100/10.

This is a great place to catch up with friends or any casual lunch sessions. Would definitely recommend the dessert.

I went with my japanese friend food were so good, delicious and reasonable price and the restaurant is so beautiful. The staff are friendly and helpful.

What a lovely discovery this place was, my fiancee and I were intending on going to to Elliot stables and stumbled on Namh. Great atmosphere, not too loud so you can actually have a conversation and we'll chosen music. The food was amazing, flavourful and we'll portioned and came out well timed. Staff were lovely and the service was great. Would highly recommend giving this place a go.
Lini C
The food tastes ok and well seasoned. BUT we have waited 1hour and 20 minutes for the food to arrive. We were staarrrvvvviiiinnnnnggggggggggg! We have asked for our food and the waitress said they only have 2 chefs. I don’t think that is our problem right? Or perhaps they should have warned customers that it would take long before accepting orders.

I will not recommend this place if you’re already hungry.
Jay
Very nice ambience in an underground sort of way. The food is decent, not completely authentic, but good. The prices are surprisingly good too. Overall a good place to catch up with people or a dinner in town.
Sparsh Angre
Very nice restaurant. One of the Best Thai food I have tried in Auckland. Ambience is calm and beautiful. Loved the yellow lights. Reasonable in cost, not too expensive. I have tried chicken mince with Basil’s, Thai green curry and chicken fried rice. Must try is the chicken mince with Basil’s, loved it. Great service, too quick.
Ed Porter
Ordered via Uber Eats. Of our 7 dishes, three did not arrive, including two main dishes. Problem was handed off to Uber Eats who offered no more than a base case of delivering the missing items 45 mins later or offering a refund on the three items. Food was ok, that's all. All round, abysmal.

I went away for two weeks and just got home tonight. My friend was feeding my cat, but ran out of wet food yesterday. I ordered my dinner from nahm on Uber eats and Cantonese White Fish, but I asked for just the fish and not cooked, for my cat. They did it. Very expensive cat dinner, but it was my choice and they went the extra mile!

I’ve passed by this hidden Thai spot many times but didn’t know they’ve been open for about 6 months now.

So I ordered the slow cooked pork and a classic hot tea with condensed milk.

The pork was cooked in a concoction of soy sauce, fermented cabbage, Chinese shiitake mushroom and Bok Choy.

To give it a kick, they provide a small clay pot filled with chilli and another pot with hot chilli too.

The sauce was so good, you could have it on it’s own. The tea is a little small though but doesn’t taste too sweet, which is what I like.

Overall, an interesting first try to a somewhat very potential restaurant. They have a few choices and maybe coming with your family and friends would be ideal.
Annie Low
Nice ambience and decor, great services. However,
The taste of the food here is kinda weird as it’s not authentic enough. If you love authentic Thai food, this place is not suitable for you
Nathalie
Nice decor, clean restaurant, friendly and helpful staff and lovely food! They have a lot of space for bigger groups and high chair for babies too.
Tiana Meintjes
We visited Nahm last night and were blown away with our experience. The staff are super friendly, the ambiance is calming, the decor is simple but beautiful and the FOOD is SO DELICIOUS! We chose the caramelised pork belly, coconut chicken skewers, chicken wings, roti with peanut sauce, and green curry and everything was wonderfully cooked and super tasty. We'll definitely be back!

A hidden gem so close to the overcrowded Elliot Stables. A very romantic setting and delicious food with a number of gluten-free options. Will definitely be back.

Absolutely delicious. Some of the best Thai in Auckland and such great service! We have eaten in and had takeaway and both were a great experience!

It is next to Elliot stable, nice environment, quiet and musical, the staff has great service , food is fusion, dishs look delicious, an hidden gem

I didnt have high expectations when i went in for a quick lunch but i will def be back. Service was exceptionally good. Attentive, Helpful, Quick. The lady taking my order checked if i had any dietry requirements before putting the order through. The place was clean and spacious, decorated with fairy lights creating a good atmosphere. It will look even better for dinner.
When food is served they bring out a tray of sauces or additionals (fish sauce / chilli flakes / sugar etc) for your preference.
I ordered the chicken pad thai which comes out in a good portion (meal for one). Ive been to places where there are more pieces of chicken but its still worth the price. There are tofu pieces included in the dish as well which was also a bonus for me.
Erothman2
Went here for dinner last night with my partner and we loved it! The ambiance was great, and it felt very homey and welcoming. On top of that the food was incredible, with heaps of selection and options if you’re either gluten or dairy intolerant. The service was great too. Definitely a breath of fresh air if you want to step away from the commotion of Elliot Stables right next door. Would highly recommend!
Bradleyaitken92
The food is incredible! I’ve been to many Thai/south East Asian restaurants around the world, and this among my favourites. Not just offering the standard dishes we’ve had a million times, they’ve really looked beyond the norm while keeping authentic flavours. Paired with very generous pours of wine, this is a must for your next dine out!

I was fortunate enough to be able to sample a number of dishes. Starting with the Miang Salmon Cocktails I knew this was going to be an impressive and original meal. Sushi grade salmon with that classic lemongrass flavour, can’t get better than that. If it wasn’t for pork belly coming next, I’d have definitely ordered another round. You obviously can’t go wrong with pork belly, but this was perfected! My partner rolled her eyes when I ordered it, not being a huge fan of fatty meats, but she quickly regretted doubting me. Both being big fans of Tom yum, we’ve tried many and any we can find. The combo of salmon and ground pork with the sour and spicy flavours of Tom yum really blew me away. I’d never tried anything like it and thought it was a unique interpretation that’s sure to impress any Thai soup fans! I should’ve called it quits here, but I had to try the mussels. Again, even as a mussel addict, I’ve never had anything like this. With classic Thai flavours and a coconut cream drizzle, you’ll just have to try it to believe it! Open your mind, because you’ve never had anything like it!

Not only did the food make the evening, so did the charming and personal service. We had a great time with our waiter Jack. He was always right there with another glass of wine when I needed him. He had a smile on his face and took pleasure in looking after us - couldn’t ask for more!

This was a great meal at a very reasonable price. I don’t take the time to review restaurants as much as I should, but I just had to get the word out on this place. Go with a date, the family or a group of friends - you’ll have a great time!
