Review Hector's Restaurant - Auckland Central

Stephen Tan
Great restaurant with many vegetarian and vegan options on offer. Of the ones we tried they were very creative and well executed. Staff were very friendly and service was exceptional. Only gripe was the tempah was too salty but that is probably a personal thing.

Went for the raw breakfast and it was nothing short of excellent. Food selection was substantial and all was very tasty. Coffee was also very good, which came as an added bonus. Staff was very friendly. Highly recommended if you want to experience a well made raw breakfast, in a relaxing environment

OMG Amazing vegan menu! Definitely the best vegan food I have had to date. It was so delicious and creative. All vegans need to come, especially on "Meatless Mondays" where an all-inclusive vegan menu is on offer! Can't wait to bring family and friends. Thanks Hector chef you are just fantastic.
Holly Claeys
Great plant based menu and service. Staff were lovely although I think they need a little more training on the menu
David
Really great service, high quality food. Vegan and meat. The sticky date pudding was amazing.

Great vegan dishes! The deserts were amazing

Best vegan breakfast we ever had - absolutely amazing! The choices are comprehensive, there is no vegan or gluten free option missing. The yoghurts and chutneys are dreamlike, so is the gluten free bread. And don‘t miss out on the various granolas, they are delicious! Definitely worth the travel - very decent price-performance ratio. Welcoming and friendly staff.

The food is excellent - especially when you have a vegan and an omnivore trying to have a special dinner. I agree with a previous reviewer though that the decor is very dated which does not do justice to Chef Jinu Abraham's creations. We have been back 4 or 5 times over the past couple of years and always had great service though.

After being let down by no organic food for my Birthday at another restaurant we pre-booked which often has it, I was relieved to find Hectors for our small party. Impressed by gluten free & the organic dish I had exceeded expectations, the waitress managed well to pass on qu's from the chef about allergies, we were not bothered by repeating ourselves over an order for the absent person while he was parking the car...this was no problem. I would politely suggest to some of the other reviewers to get over themselves - the prices are highly reasonable - no one should be receiving free dining for minor things which are not a problem - not at this price! Atmosphere was so peaceful I loved the view of the apartments & sky. The music was soothing. I would love to go again anytime! The waitresses were doing well at their job & were friendly but did not interrupt our dining conversations - a great skill to have thank you. A thoroughly enjoyable experience, loved it! The restaurant looks like a movie set - far better than current photos.

Could not have enjoyed this more unless there was a live band and free cocaine. Elegant. Delicious. Hospitable. Friendly. The venue is gorgeous and very up market. The service was very caring and smiley. The food was beautifully prepared and thoughtfully created, although not supreme. The dessert (triple chocolate delice) however was the best I've ever had in my 30 years on this planet. The wine to accompany (a SB and a riesling) was delightful and to top it all off, it was vegan. There were groups in suits and couples and friends all seemingly enjoying the same experience. Go.

Grilled eggplant and salsa verde tasted amazing. The steak was pretty good as well. Incredible dessert - a hazelnut, orange and white chocolate pudding - the chefs kindly gave it to us in a takeaway box. Really great dinner out - thank you

The words do not exist in the English language to describe how fantastic the vegan food at this place is. The pumpkin nut ravioli is to die for and it tastes very rich and buttery. I have no idea how they pulled it off! It even made my non vegan father a believer. He ordered the grilled eggplant and loved that too. For dessert we had the panacotta which was super yummy as well. For appetizer we had the bread and dip platter and that was the best bread and dip I’ve ever had in my life. Who knew something as simple as bread and dip could make an impression on someone?! Certainly the best of the ones I tried while in New Zealand because after my Hector’s experience I tried ordering at other restaurants we visited on our trip and they didn’t come close. Oh our waitress So’o was also very kind and attentive.

I took some customers here on Monday evening as I wanted to wow them with the food. It was fantastic to say the least. The presentation and flavours were amazing and well worth the money as the plate on arrival was both gorgeous to look at and to eat. Service was also good, staff attentive and efficient. A restaurant to remember. Just loved it.

Wonderful. Very pleasant dining experience, great staff and a very nice plant-based menu available which was some of the best vegetarian and vegan food I've had. The tempeh filo was a stand out, really delicious. Highly recommended for a night out with someone!

Good food! Great atmosphere around. Staff are very friendly.

Room service at the Heritage, it’s essentially the same menu from Hector & made from the same kitchen. The quality of the food was surprisingly good & delicious. The crispy snapper wasn’t crunch crispy, it had very nice flavours and the fish was cooked perfect. The side of Asian Greens need bit more cooking, wombak raw and in chunky piece is not the best, again the flavours was good though.
Food2belly
The food overall was a bit bland. The highlight was the tofu brick (9/10), soft and light sweet flavours. The summer bowl (4/10) had too many herby bitter flavours going on, not my flavour palette. The pumpkin ravoli (5/10) was made with too much wrapper and not enough filling while flavours were super bland. I think they didn't explore the full potential of vegetarian food eg eggplants, mushroom or sweet potato.
Eating My Way Around
Got excited to try due to the vegan options but was sorely disappointed. Ordered olives for a starter, a huge pile of spicy olives with nothing to soak them up so had to pay $2 for one bit of bread. The main lacked flavour and dessert was just ok. The plant based menu seemed to be minimal compared to the options shown on the menu here. We did share our feedback right away and although something was reduced from the bill, I would've rather just been given something yummy to eat so I didn't have to leave feeling hungry after paying a sizeable bill

Went here for a friends birthday lunch looking for good vegan options. Had some good vegan options. Went here at lunchtime and we were the only people apart from one other lady in the restaurant. Good food though.

Was amazing,
Booked awhile in advance for the World Vegan day celebration set menu evening.
Food was beautiful.
The Amuse was delicious!
The Soup was good, very flavorful :)
The Entrée was very interesting, loved the flavours!
The Main was the grand winner, was soooo good, I hope they have this on their actual menu.
The Dessert was very technical and unique and I liked it but I feel like it wasn’t very sweet. After such an amazing flavourful meal I really just wanted a bit a sweetness. But overall didn’t disappoint:)
A++++
An amazing vegan set manu, would recommend:)

Hectors was the first place I ate a full vegan meal at, back in 2013 when I was still vegetarian, and it remains one of my favorites to go for special occasions as the atmosphere is so nice. It's not cheap but I do think you get what you pay for and the menu changes throughout the year so there's always something new when I've gone.

We tried the full buffet breakfast. Hot food is a let down except the hashbrowns and grilled tomatoes. Scrambled eggs were runny and the bacon was sitting in its oily liquid. The continental breakfast and Paleo/raw food is really good (they have a good range). Good range of juices, coffee was ok.

Went here with the Veggee Crew for the Chief Other Half's Birthday day on the 17/04/2018. From the Stella Artois,GL Maker Pinot Gris through to the Irish Coffee we were not disappointed. Come on
Vegans and Vegetarians fill this place up along with your scummy meat chomping mates there's
something here for everybody. I never thought I would see the day the Veggee Crew were completely satisfied from the 9yr old to the 12yr old and the Head of my Heart.

Our menu consisted of the Little Creatures,Fresh Sourdough, olive Platter,HFC Pops,Seasonal Veg,Chive Gnocci,Crosscut Fries, Hazelnut Cream,Choco Delice,Choco Cheescake. That Choco Delicio needs to be shared between two people.

I scored it big that evening so thanks Hector .Friendly staff made the effort. We powered through the entrees and the 9yrs old ordered another HFC Pops which is Tofu and Soya with some cabbage deepfried in a delicious batter.
Give us some New Zealand craft beer Hectors, there has to be someone out there that meets your high standards in our plethora of local brewski makers?
Delicious dessert menu and free valet parking if your meal is over a $100.

Thank you Hectors and long may you be part of the Auckland Eatingscape!

Hadn’t eaten at Hectors for a while, but was keen to try their vegan menu.
Service was very friendly & staff attentive. It was very quiet with only a few other diners.
The other diners mostly ate from their normal menu which all looked delicious but we didn’t feel like we were missing out as our food was tasty & presented well.
For our menu we had a polenta cube with spicy eggplant which smelt really great too. The kumara & asparagus was one of my faves with crispy quinoa giving good texture. The potato dauphinoise was tasty too & mango/feijoa dessert giving a tangy sweet finish.
Happy to have tried this menu & would visit again

I am a big fan of Hector's, they are game changers when it comes to plant based cuisine.

I just had my 21st Birthday dinner there, and the service was exceptional. They even gave me a gift! We had the HFC pops as an entree which were absolutely delicious. The main course was a bit of a let down as it was spicy cauliflower, which I normally love. However I didn't realise just how spicy it would be; it wad one of the hottest dishes I have ever had, far hotter than what most Kiwis would be able to handle. Nobody at the table who ordered it could eat it. It was disappointing as it was the only dish that the vegans could eat and I feel like I was not warned just how spicy it would be. If I had known I would have asked for a different vegan main. It was also disappointing that the staff didn't really do anything to rectify the situation- they tried mixing some soy milk but it was still overly spicy. When no one at the table can eat the dish my expectation would be that at the very least we can have a small discount. Negatives aside, the dessert course was also amazing! (picture attached of what I had!) All in all the service was really great despite the incident with the main, and I had an amazing night. I will still give them 5 stars as they offer a luxury dining experience that, as a vegan, is quite hard to come by, and I will definitely continue to eat at Hector's again and again, however that is the last time I order something spicy from the menu!

Dined in for dinner as an in house guest.Service was a bit slow. Food seemed rushed and effortless. I ordered chips and a salad as sides for $10 each both of which looked like Denny’s food. My main of pork belly for $39 was not a very well sized. Someone else on our table had the chicken dish which was a leg of chicken. It seemed bizarre to see a chicken wing served in such a swanky restaurant especially for $38. Chef was also rude when I approached waiters to take food away as clearing of our table was slow. Chef pushed plastic containers at me and said “yea yea here you go” to which the waiters quickly offered to take my food for packing. Restaurant lacked ambience as there was no music. Buffet breakfast however was superb, great selection of hot and cold foods.

Been for both the high tea (twice) and the Monday experimental kitchen.

The high tea had a vegan option which I'm sure is the only one in town! It had a wide variety of foods from savory to sweet and they were all enjoyable. You got to pick a coffee or tea of your choice which made a good 3 cups worth. Such a cute time and everything tasted so much like its dairy or meat counterparts!

The experimental kitchen which was 4 courses was an extremely interesting experience. They have an entirely new menu each week which keeps it fresh and exciting. They typically keep to a theme of a staple 2 ingredients which definitely didn't dull it down at all. It was so cool to see how they would match the ingredient to suit the course. At a modest price of 45 for 4 courses, definitely recommend!

I came here with a group of my friends for lunch on 15 December. We ordered few dishes and a large size pizza. The food was ok, but we really like the restaurant atmosphere more.
Purpledonnamode
We booked in here for Xmas Day and were not disappointed. The food here is out of this world. I had a 5 course vegan meal and each dish was stunning. The flavours are so delicate and intricate that it almost brought a tear to my eye. Do yourself a favour and try this place out!

Hector's Restaurant is inside of the Heritage hotel with cool decor and furnishing. They have a funky playlist of pop, ballads and 70s music.
The staff are very friendly, attentive and I would not fault them.
We came here for restaurant month with one of us getting the set menu and 2 of us ordering off the menu.

There's a bit of everything on the menu but we had a slight wait for the food.
I ordered the Semolina Herbed Eggplant. The semolina coating was so crisp with the eggolant super tender. But the dish could have been hotter with more seasoning, it was really lacking salt. The smoked tomato ragout was too raw and didn't suit the dish. Also the slaw was very watery and bland. I enjoyed the eggplant but other than that the dish was subpar.

I ended with a Kaffir Lime Creme Brulee which was delicious but lacked the actually torched cracked top. So it was more of a set custard. The creme brulee was set with agar agar and is Vegetarian-friendly. It was creamy and rich with just the right amount of sweetness with the Earl Grey syrup.

The service here is wonderful and the ideas on the menu is nice but the food needs improvement.

Not up to the mark. Had high expectations but all in vain the vegetarian options in morning buffet are too limited. Asked for the chef but nobody turned up for good 45 mins. So had to do with hash browns and breads
Sarah Meakin
The Cauliflower Penang was amazing! Really inventive, plated beautifully and really balanced. I got this as room service where the food is often pretty average, but I was blown away!
Chef Nishant
Been there couple of days back with my friends. The food was on my top notch. One of the best scallops I had till date. Hats off to the chef.
Laura
Had the buffet breakfast. Was by far the best buffet breakfast I've had at a hotel. The raw bar is awesome. And quite well priced too. The staff were attentive.
Elijah Main
We had the Garlic bread and the Pumpkin and almond cheese Tempura, which were both beautiful!

For our mains I had the mushroom tartlet with a side of creamed potatoes and my partner had the tofu and pea stuffed potato! We both loved out mains, although the my dish was pretty small (luckily I ordered the side) and very basic, but still tasty!

For dessert we shared the Pistachio trifle, which was very nice!!

It was such a refreahing surprise to find a nice place for life long vegetarians to happily dine, we will certainly go back!

VEGANS DO NOT TRUST!!!

For a restaurant that prides itself being allergy aware, and specialists in vegan and vegetarian food, I was shocked to find out that food brought out to me wasn't actually vegan.

I asked at the very beginning to notify the chef just to make sure that everything brought out to me was 100% vegan.

They brought me out some complimentary bread and olive oil as a dip. As I always do just to make sure, I asked the waitress if the bread was definately vegan before I ate it. She went over to the chef who looked at the ingredients to find there was egg white inside. The chef looked over at me, with a sort of 'sorry smirk' and so I decided to leave before the main course came.

The waitress tried to barter with me, telling me it was a mistake but the rest of the meal is definately vegan. I told her I had lost all trust, and I walked out.

Absolutely disappointing !!! Had my 21st dinner there with about 10 of my friends. We all arrived at around 7:30 and ordered our drinks n starters at about 7:45 .... The drinks took half an hour to arrive. The starters took about an hour. Our food took over 2 hours to be served !! When our food finally arrived thats when the real nightmare began, the food were overly cooked, tasteless, very plain and one girl had hair in her food which later on was explained to be an spice of some sort (what a joke) the worst thing was they forgot to put my order through and it was my birthday dinner !!!!!!!!! The whole restaurant were not busy at all at the time either! I was sooooo disappointed at the service that we recieved!! Will not recommend or returm again !!

Came for High Tea.
Really enjoyed it. There was plenty of food (may not look it) and service is excellent. The atmosphere was nice, i was pleasantly surprised by this.
$40 very well spent and you get to choose 2 drink options from the menu (not just tea). I would definitely recommend and definitely come back again for high tea.
We were there for just over 2 hours and they never rushed us, it was a really good place for a good long catch up sessions.

We went to the Hector's couple of times and both on our small special occasions.
Their freshly baked breads and butternut soup for entree are just awesome. Then grilled salmon with mashed potato for main (my absolutely fav there). I don't eat lamb but my partner says that they have awesome lamb rump. And their Pina Colada... Yam.
Well, every time I visit I remember to take some pictures of their dishes only after we finished it all. So, sorry, almost nothing to show.
Only one photo of the dessert that Chef Shree made for me when I was going to visit my family in Russia and we came for a small romantic dinner before my departure. It's hard to see but it's written "Happy Journey" there =) Thanks, Shree!
Just want to mention awesome host Navi and welcoming Gurjeet. Great job, guys! We will definitely come again some time.

Came here for a friend's birthday with some other friends. We were laughing quite loudly and kept hassling the waiter for more of the sweet, sweet bread rolls which are so tasty. I ordered the pressed tofu and textures of chocolate. Both were AMAZING. Plenty of vegan options and lovely service and those bread rolls, those bread rolls.... too good...
Veganista
When we entered the restaurant we were wowed by the beautiful interior, but unfortunately that was the only thing that impressed us. My partner and I dined here specifically for the vegan food, and for starters we had the garlic bread and kumara crisps with an eggplant dip. I am not actually sure why the eggplant and kumara crisps are on the menu, it was tasteless and looked like something you would get at a bar. For mains we both ordered the mushroom tartlet. The presentation was beautiful but again, the taste just did not deliver. I don't want to judge the whole restaurant based on these dishes only, so perhaps the other vegan options would be more satisfying.

When I stayed at this hotel, I got a deal to get a breakfast buffet as well! As soon as i walked in, a table of raw, vegan choices, were laid out in front of me. This got me so excited, I had to control myself! I first sat down before scouting the buffet. There was so much to choose from!

I started at the raw section. There were a few raw treats too! I had two large bowls of rawnola, which was a mix of buckins, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and raisin clusters. I topped it off with coyo (coconut yoghurt), almonds, fruit salad; rock melon, strawberries, pineapple, melon, and compressed apple and pear was nice (a change from tinned). I love how there was a bowl of skinned fruit too, so you could help yourself to it. I had a kiwifruit. I also ended up having 3 bircher muesli, coyo parfaits. They were in cute little jugs, served with an injector of raspberry sauce that you can squeeze out yourself. These were my favourite!

Next I got a plate of raw treats. The raw cacao slice was yummy, with bits of freeze-dried raspberry in it. There was also raw flax crackers, which weren't that great, raw hot cross buns, and cabbage linseed breads. They were yummy! I also tried their eldflower tea kombucha. It was by the raw section, in a cabinet with salads. It was my first time trying kombucha. It was fizzy, pink and almost like wine, served in a cute little bottle.

After my sweet round I went into savoury. They had a row of hot foods including; hashbrowns, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, baked beans, pancakes, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, potatoes, sausages. They also have a section of breads and pastries. There were different types of breads that you could toast yourself, as well as yummy looking muffins and pastries like croissants. In the centre is a big table with a range of spreads, sauces, compotes and dressings you can have with your breakfast. There was also cereals, miso soup with toppings, steamed rice, cheeses, salamis and salmon. As well as a bar of juices, teas and water.

Overall it was a great breakfast buffet! The food was tasty, and I love how they had a raw vegan section! I’d definitely come back here again!

Absolute 5/5. Divine vegetarian and vegan finer dining. Drank a bottle of wine. Not the finest of nights but hey this isn't about what happened after dinner. Take your vegetarian/vegan on a first date here and you will basically have them hooked for life. True story.
Hans
Microwave dinners would be more satisfying. We had the overpriced fish of the day, or rather last week. Hector does allow you to choose your own sauce, perhaps untrusting of his own judgement. Though the staff showed very little confidence in Hector, telling me after complaining that the banana fritters were "unpleasant". Id have offered tips for more warning.
Lacey Thompson
Terrible atmosphere, dull hotel restaurant. Overpriced food and NEVER eat the banana fritters! They are so bad and you could go and buy 5kgs of bananas and get a better deal. The mango parfait is gross too. The duck leg confit was ok but far too sweet.

This week’s location is ‘The Heritage Hotel – Hector’s Restaurant’. First of all… a little history lesson on this week’s location. The Heritage building (often remembered as the old Farmers building on the corner), was originally built for a mail-order company owned by a man named Laidlaw. In the early 1900s, this mail-order business was thriving and desperately needed a bigger space to continue its growth. In 1912, Laidlaw brought the land and started building. The building opened in April 1914, just months before WW1 started.

I love how well Hectors caters to vegans! It's my mine and my husbands go to for fine dining and a really nice meal out or delicious breakfast. The vegan dinner options are incredible and always such a feast for my vision, smell and tastebuds - beautifully presented, amazing well thought out dishes. Hectors breakfast is hands down the best buffet breakfast. They have an amazing raw breakfast bar with the most incredible granola, coconut yoghurt and amazing selection of fruit and nuts. Their savoury raw bar is incredible also, with the most delicious dressings I've ever had. The cater well to all dietary requires from gluten free to vegan and everything in between ;)

There was a huge group of us for my sisters Birthday, 18 of us. She is Vegan and this restaurant offers meat grills options aswell as about 4 vegan mains. Its great to see a restaurant that shows on the menu if an it is Vegan and not necessarily just vegetarian. I started with the chicken liver mousse pate, this dish was really tasty and I felt was a good ways to start the meal. The portion of the pate was huge, better than there not being enough! Most people went for the simple Vegan garlic bread, which had glowing reviews around the table. My partner had pork belly for his main, the crackling on top was huge and crackled to perfection! (GRANGERS TAKE NOTE, THIS IS HOW YOU COOK PORK BELLY). I had duck, the potato gratin had lots of flavour, a mild tasting pumpkin puree was a good accompaniment to the duck. I wasnt a fan of the walnut pesto that came with it, but I can see why some would like this. The duck was beautifully tender and juicy. My only complaint about the duck was that my piece was very gristley and there wasnt much of it. At one point I had to spit a mouthful out as I couldn't chew through the fat.
Our waiter, I think his name is Gurjeet, he was splendid, when we cam to spilt the bill we didnt have to say what we ordered he knew exactly what 18 people each ordered!! He was great and very attentive. Overall was a great night and the fantastic waiter really made the night enjoyable.
Marina Harding
Me and my partner went here because we stayed at the Heritage and got a feee buffet breakfast with our room. I didnt expect much because its pretty hard having high quality foods in a buffet set BUT the breakfast was exceptional. Heaps of different varieties of bread, cereal, juice, fruits EVERYTHING! I am a huge fan of eggs benedict and have a high standard of it where ever I go and it was delicious. The whole breakfast was set up perfectly and a huge variety of foods. I will deffs go there again(:
Rolf Attinger
Went for great dinner here with my wife while back in Auckland. The welcome by the staff just perfect , great starters and the mains and desserts were fantastic, all tasted excellent and looked stunning. The service was professional and the dining area again was well designed and very cosy!
All in all PERFECT. Thanks Guys
Daffy
High tea was overpriced, sandwiches were so dry and in odd number, 9 small sandwiches for 2 people. Used tea bags not leaf tea. You can't find waitresses when you want them. Would not return again.
Holly Hopkinson
Dinner at Hectors was to die for!

The restaurant had a very warm atmosphere and the staff were all very attentive.

Our meals were amazing, full of flavour, good portions and visually appealing. My partner was put of the restaurant by the price of the meals, but after being served he realised they were well worth the cost.
Lucia Florence
High Tea here is boring and overpriced. It is very old fashioned and traditional, the scones were dry and overall just lacked the feeling that it was special. Would not return again.

I absolutely loved coming here to Hector's on Sunday evening, for a meal with Mum & Dad, plus hubby, plus daughter. I chose the "Organic tofu & peas stuffed potato, with Smoked tomato & onions, karengo, caper & golden raisin sauce". It's quite amazing that this is a vegan dish! The caper & golden raisin sauce was the highlight of the dish for me. It was really nice and salty/tangy.

Hubby had the free-range Waiheke Chicken and really loved it. He wasn't as keen on his choc-cheesecake, as he found it a little salty for his liking. However that would be the only critique of the night, really.

I really loved my dessert - I had the "Red summer fruits with Blackcurrent sorbet, macadamia caramel". Really refreshing and with beautiful rich, sharp berry flavours.

The venue is a nicely kept, 5-star hotel-style restaurant, with well-trained international staff.

I was really appreciative of the colouring pens & activity sheet for my preschooler too! She was more than happy with her chicken nuggets & wedges, while everyone else was able to indulge in other spectacular culinary creations.

Defintely a fantastic place for dinner conversation and a relaxed high-class meal.

Bought a deal voucher for High Tea for 2 to treat my sister who is from a small farming community. Can only describe as average. We waited at the counter for 5mins before anyone saw us, the restaurant was empty.

The High T started by choosing our tea and there certainly was a great range to choose from. The food arrived on a three tier plate as you would expect. Sadly the bread used for the sandwiches was dry. It seemed that they had been made earlier and left to dry out. It doesn't take much to put a damp teatowel over them . We all know that trick. The fillings though were lovely.
The scones clearly were pulled from the freezer and microwaved. How do we know this....one was icy cold in the middle....they were also rock hard.
the sweet stuff.....two of the things ( sponge roll and mini choc eclair ) I can buy at my local supermarket . The citrus tart was lovely.

Nobody returned to us for the whole time we were there after the tea and food was delivered. Just reflected how we felt,....nobody really cared.

Such a disappointment and I know that without too much more effort this could have been so much better. We won't be going back. There was really nothing remarkable about this experience.
Fiona Quinn
Delicious! this is like comfort food for vegetarians and vegans there are so many vegan choices and has equally delicious meals for meat eaters. The servings are generous and the deserts are creative and yummy. Great service and a quiet relaxed atmosphere - an excellent place to take a group of people as you know everyone will find something they will really enjoy on the menu. Just make sure you are hungry before you go there!
Baz Cleverley
We dined here late November 2012, to celebrate our 43rd Wedding anniversary. It was the Vegitarian menu that drew us as it seems that even in 2012, Vegitarianism and Vegans are a rare breed easily dismissed as nuisance value only. It's about time this attidude changed and HECTORS most certainly seem to be heading the charge in that direction. An EXCELLENT menu with plenty of variety and 'tastes' that I had never experienced before. We will have to go back a few more times. Cannot fault the service or the meals or the wonderful Plant based environment but if I had to mention a tiny suggestion that would improve night-time visits, it would be that it is TOO LIGHT and almost like eating out during a daytime. A MUCH darker restaurant with perhaps individual table lighting would really set the mood and really MAKE this place. Enjoyed the night though with the soft music that allowed easy conversation and also liked the fact that we could 'add' to our account in favour of Charitable causes they support. All round GOOD GUYS (n Gals of course). Going to try their daytime high teas before Christmas too.
Sylvia Matthews
Visited this place for the first time and will definitely come back. Had the 3 course vegan menu- which is an absolute pleasure to see since NZ definitely lacks vegan food- and it was absolutely worth every dollar.

Everything was delicious and nutritious. You have got to try the seaweed caviar! Cute little red balls that have a big kick.

Service was really good and everything exceeded expectations.

The menu at Hectors seems to appeal to everyone - fish, meat, vegan alike. As vegetarians it is a welcome surprise to find such a very vegan friendly menu. Four of the starters (one of which is a signature dish) and five of the mains (three of which are signature dishes) were vegan. The food was comparable to the very best vegan restaurants in San Francisco (The Millenium) and New York (Candle 79). I can recommend the Curried Laksa Bowl and the Macadamia & Herb Roasted Eggplant filo - which had wakame tea powder, a most unusual and delicious addition. Being thorough, the restaurant also offered vegetarian wines to match the food. This was the first time in a good restaurant that when I declined the bread I was asked if I would prefer a gluten free option - wonderful! Everything was impressive, friendly, and I will certainly be going there again. Congratulations to Hectors on the excellence of all they offer.
Charissa
Had a pre show dinner here last night and it was a very nice experience.Efficient staff and although we had limited time and had to do the set menu it was still lovely. Will definitely be back to try the ala carte menu next time.

I love this restaurant! Their $20 lunch special is wonderful, and you are guaranteed to get good service every time. Beautiful atmosphere as well. I am a big tiramisu fan and I order it whenever I can, and I think Hectors has one of the best tiramisu in town! Hectors is really a hidden gem...
Anita
Great restaurant! Cool surroundings, and waterfall! It has a fantastic range of food, especially for vegan or dairy free individuals (even desserts!). I absolutely loved the food, the presentation and taste was superb, although I did think that the service did not live up to the high standard of food. Not bad service, just little things, like not removing bread plates which cluttered the table. Other than that, WOW, what an experience!
A Bromide
This is a really lovely restaurant with excellent food. My husband eats anything/everything while I am vegan - Hector's had plenty of choice for both of us. Both our meals were delicious. I would highly recommend it.

Came for dinner here last week and i have to say it was busy but the service excellent, the food great and the restaurant just stunning in the atrium. It feels like you sit under the stars. Very good place, value for money or even more i would say. Small but good menu selection. Will come again.

A little while ago, my other half and I went for a date at Hectors restaurant at The Heritage hotel in Auckland city. Since discovering Hectors, it's become a huge favourite for dinner dates.

As much as I love quirky vegan restaurants, sometimes you just want an excuse to dress up and feel sophisticated.

The restaurant itself is situated in The Heritage Hotel, under a canopy of palm trees and a 7 story atrium.

Not only does Hectors serve vegan food, but they are also doing their part to reduce their carbon footprint. With most of its produce coming from within a 50km radius.

Vegan and vegetarian food served here is made in a separate part of the kitchen, to ensure no cross contamination. Which gives me even more reason to love Hectors.

After doing what I know all vegans do when faced with a menu that has more than one option, (starring at it for a lengthy period in awe, excitement, and a childlike want for everything), I made my choice.

Spinach and vegan cheese arancini's. I had never even heard of arancini until I went to Hectors, but I've fallen in love. They are on my list of things to learn how to make.

I really like how, not only do they signify what food is vegan, but also which wines are safe!!

As great as the arancini's are, there really isn't much to them and I'm a girl that eats a lot. Oh well.... more room for pud!!!!

I am sorry but it was a while ago that we went, and Hectors have since changed their menu. Meaning I can't tell you what exactly this scrummy dessert was, but I can tell you it was OH MY GOSH YUM.

Now let’s talk money. Hectors isn't the $5 for a meal that you can get at some vegan places, but it's not going to break the bank either. You can see from the menu how much my main cost, and the dessert was about $15.

If you ever find yourself in Auckland, please give Hectors a try, it's honestly great.

If you're interested in vegan recipes and lifestyle tips, head over to rachaelclaudette.blogspot.com

Excellent soup, steak & vegan options. Large range of wine. My steak was cooked to perfection and a vegan friend was thrilled with the choices on offer. Courteous staff, great service. Loved it!

Our weekend is the time we get to try different cafe’s and markets. This time we decided to go to a hotel for breakfast and try out Heritage Hotels Raw Breakfast menu. Now even hotels are joining the raw diet hype and of course I was curious!
The Raw Breakfast Bar is $19.00 per person which is quite a reasonable price, having in mind that you can have as much as you can handle...
The raw buffet included a savoury and sweet section. There was a salad bar with homemade raw dressings, raw granola with coconut yoghurt, raw sliced linseed and cabbage bread and best of all cold brew coffee. I loved the raw granola and coconut yoghurt, the bread was also quite unique. The salad bar was just an ordinary salad bar with almond “cheese” which looked more like a almond crumble. I loved the option of activated nuts and seeds, which you could add to your fresh fruit salad or granola.
Maybe I’m becoming a perfectionist when it comes to raw food, but I expected much more from this raw breakfast buffet.

More on www.teresamisu.com
