Review Bellota By Peter Gordon - Auckland Central

sheeba lamba
Lovely place. Absolutely amazing interiors and decor. Love the outside seating as well. Tapas is awesome but the actual highlight was sangria. Probably the best sangria in auckland. Highly recommended!

On federal street in amongst all the incredible food options, I was surprised this place wasn't busier. Great selection of tapas, hard to choose when only dining with one other. Love the intimate spaces. Great cocktails (and mocktails). Will definitely go back
Karl Laird
Nice tapas, but the selection of Spanish wine was a bit weak and insipid
Ryan M
Great service , wonderful location. A bit pricy but nice food.
M Yu
Love the cocktails and tapas. We tried quite a few. Will definitely come back😊

A really good place to meet friends and enjoy great quality food - especially their Tapas. We did find the booth chairs were somewhat uncomfortable, a bit wobbly and in need of repair - it felt like we were going to fall of the end! Besides that, the staff are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Highly recommended eatery.

Large tapas good value. .fish was delicious. Dessert almond tart with white chocolate yogurt cream and PX sherry was delicious too. Bit taken back when paid the bill to find a 500 ml bottle of sparkling water:Antipodes from right here in NZ was $10! Staff very attentive . Overall would recommend.

Went for New Year's drinks and small plates, and given the timing, they only had the late night menu but the croquettes were soft and delicious. The seating and lighting was quite nice and they've got Sherry available on the menu too which I don't see much. Will have to go back for a proper meal sometime.

Ignore the bad reviews. Great vibe, excellent food, friendly staff, efficient service, good choice of wine. We really enjoyed the anchovies and Serrano ham. The Sangria was superb. Prices are what you would expect in a CBD tapas bar.
Leanne Holland
Waitstaff were exceptional, cocktails were amazing and our food experience was delicious. We were on holiday and had a big day out and about, was so nice to wind down here, it has an excellent atmosphere where you can just chill and relax.

Nice decoration and comfortable seat, love the Latin music as always. Cocktails is good looking Howard they will have some updates on the drink menu. A good place for friends catchup.
Raven Garcia
Place is warm, and welcoming. Ecstatic vibe with spanish music playing on the background. Great place overall to enjoy wine, tapas, and cocktail-- perfect for every occasion.

Great little tapas bar under Skycity. Got a few plates to share along with a few drinks for two people and paid $99. Thought it was very reasonable. Be sure to ask them to validate your parking ticket if parking at Skycity. Cost us $8 for 2 hours.

Live music outside.! Loved the booth and ambience. Really enjoyed the light Tempranillo, warmed olives, chicken and Serrano ham croquetas with blue cheese sauce, but thought the pintxo platter was ok. Can't wait to visit again.
Stephen Gillies
great tapas with a solid Spanish wine list. friendly staff, the manager tries to keep everyone happy. good to drop in for a drink and the long tables out front.
Alejandro Humphreys
Is probably not the best place but is not bad neither. I like the variety they have but wish they could have some options they only offer in the share options to be ordered alone, like empanadas for example. But overall is quite good but maybe a bit pricey for what they offer.

I originally popped in here for pre-drinks prior to sugar club and the food caught my eye so i have came back.

The prawns were good but the flavour lacking bot heat or chilli more of a butter sauce.

The baby squid was great especially with the fresh lime. The aioli was great but a minuscule portion.

Finished with the wagyu bavette. This was stunning. Cooked perfectly rare. The chimichurri was ace too. My favourite dish but only just. Almost as good as the one from azabu

Decent wine selection beer selection at least from the menu is small. Very nice cocktails.

Came in June, Wednsday latish dinner. Belotta was not very busy as they usually would be. We ordered set menu for 2. Tapas tastes excellent with carefully choosen ingridients. but seafood paella was hmm kind of too fishy. Next time will choose different main. They have lovely Spanish wine and reasonably priced! I enjoed dining in comfy sits inside and listening to outside life music untill music finished outside and started playing inside. I think speakers inside could be balanced better. The service was ok with a new waiter who probably has little experience or knowledge. On other occasions I would come for cocktails/drinks and would sit outside admiring beautiful street lights not bothering much about food etc. I would probably give 5 stars then
Sarah
Bellota is a great place for sharing some Spanish tapas. The food was tasty and there’s some good variety on the menu. The service was good and ambience nice with performers out the front too. Would go again.

Amazing food! There are a lot new tapas on menu and love their flavours. Great service from the staff and got some nice recommendations regarding to their drinks menu as well!
Had dined at Bellota on a Sunday night. The little tables inside are very nice. Service was friendly and quick, although I felt the waitress was in a rush or something, but no biggie. We had ordered a charcuterie board, the Fried food platter - cesta crujiente, and many other food items. We also ordered the churros and the almond tart for dessert. All the food was yum! I especially liked the goats cheese balls and the desserts esp. the churros with the dulce de leche sauce I think it was. We also had the Sangria which was also nice. Would go to Bellota again.

I love this place. Quite small servings but worth it. Too good!!! 😋 My favourite is the pork / chicken empanada. A must try. We had prawns and pork as well. Churros with caramel sauce are to die for! ☺️

Great tapas bar on Federal street. Cute little booths to sit & relax in. Really love their drinks menu with lots of unique options.
Favourite tapas include the croquettes, goats cheese balls, prawns, potatas bravas, & chorizo. Good place for after work drinks or to start a night out.
Chico
Stylish Tapas Bar. There are many kind of small & tasty dishes to enjoy. They also have variety of wine too. The setting of couches & tables are very cool 😎

Service was in disarray. Had to ask for order to be taken. Cleared the table ourselves. 1 drink came & then we had to ask 3 times for the rest of drinks 20 min later. Food came before drinks did. They said they were short staffed but didn't seem to be organised. Food ok, stuffed peppers were Delish, got slider & chicken croquettes. Then a couple of meat platters - probably only needed 1, as a lot for 4 peeps Live music was great. Don't think I'd come back here though.
Nick The Greek
Nice tapas and wine bar attached to the Skycity complex , good selection of Spanish beers and wines. Great for a couple of drinks or a selection of tapas. Recommended for a good casual night out.

Finally came in here for drinks and tapas... service was great... we sat inside in a booth-very cosy ...started with 2 cocktails: Passionfruit Caprioska & Matalina Calienta... YUM and strong!.... then tapas we had garlic prawns, sliders & lamb cutlets. Prawns were delicious ... sliders were just ok tuna one better ... lamb was nice & tender and the potatoes yummy with the sauce. Had another cocktail then more prawns and finished with Spanish donuts-churros....They were nice fresh and hot...

We went here with a group of 8 before a show for drinks and tapas on a Monday evening. The tapas list was amazing - huge variety but unfortunately the shocking service took away from that completely. We arrived and had to go in after 15 minutes to ask if we could order a drink. Then 15 minutes later still no sign of ONE drink...they finally arrived. Then more time passed and It was getting closer to our show so I had to go in to ask for food menus (half an hour after arriving...). We'd finished our drinks well before the food came out but there was no thought to even ask if we would like another wine. The only thing that was done without direction was remove our plates to round up our table. We tried to order an additional platter but the waitress couldn't understand us because she "didn't speak English". I understand trying to be authentic but if we can't order a dish...Seems a bit extreme! We asked for the bill and the card we used to start the tab at the start was immediately tried even though we planned on splitting it in half. The waitress just came out and told us the card declined. Very odd etiquette to not even ask when there is a large bill. Such a let down as we'd wanted to try this place for ages :(

This is a superb place for drinks and nibbles. It's also that rare joint that is good both for a hangout with pals, and for a fashionably informal start to a date. They don't do main courses here, as it is strictly designed as a Spanish Tapas restaurant, but the drinks and appetizers atone. A long communal table has chairs spaced just that extra inch apart but it is not the place for saucy talk with your companion - for that you can retain your soft tone and repair to the cozy alcoves by the side. Music - feisty Spanish tunes - plays unabashedly but thankfully it was not loud enough to drown out our confab.

Lychee Fresco was our opening salvo - an excellent cocktail with a strong hit of vodka refreshingly cut with lychee liqueur and lemon, worth every dime of its $16 tariff. A wide roster of drinks comprising many Spanish wines, sherries and sangria round out the drinks menu. Meat-eaters have a wide variety of appetizer selections from specially imported Iberian ham to seafood , chorizo and lamb. For vegetarians , it's lean pickings but the Spanish chef's different touch shows welcomingly.

Patatas Bravas do not come drenched here in tomato-aoli sauce which is separate, also the taters fried with their jackets on taste totally different in a good way, with the seasoning dusted over adding an unexpected buzz. One of the fancier (and successful) vegetarian appetizers in town is Bellota's 'piquillo gratin' which has pockets of red pepper stuffed with diced mushrooms and bathed all over in a cheese sauce - it looks like a meat dish and tastes almost like it. Service by young chiquitas on a recent night was shaky and not well co-ordinated but that is just a blimp - I'll come back here gladly :)

We are spoilt for choice with the restaurants lining Federal Street in the central city. One of the smaller but no less impressive restaurants is Spanish tapas restaurant Bellota. Meaning ‘acorn’ in Spanish, it is small but perfectly formed. Sultry, moody lighting, combined with a clever use of space ensures the restaurant retains a cosy, Mediterranean feel. Red leather seating alongside an outside bar to lean on as you munch on your tapas evokes a very Spanish/Latin feel. All staff are either Spanish or Latin American and the availability of a world famous delicacy, Jamon Iberico de Bellota means this place is as authentic as it gets.

Visited Bellota last night with my sister. The atmosphere & ambience of this place is awesome & felt very authentic. One of the staff greeted us at the door and gave us a selection of options for seating. We chose to sit in one of the booths which were really comfy & private. This place would be great for a date night. To drink we had a red wine sangria each, the sangria was delicious & only $9 a glass which was a score. We just wanted some nibbles & weren't too sure what to order so we shared a platter of different tapas. We really enjoyed all of the food, everything was full of flavour & the different ingredients were paired well. I look forward to returning & trying more of the food.

We just got engaged and thought we'd head out with a group of 5. We got in straight away and seated which was awesome. I'll mention the only downside for the night because I want to rave about this place. The seating was a bit squished inside for 5.. There was seating outside seating more but it was a bit chilly. We were greeted by the most amazing waitress who saw that every need was met, even bringing over a stool for some of the plates that didn't fit on the wee table that we were around. 😊 she was fantastic! So friendly and happy to explain the Spanish dishes and what would go best with what. The food- wow, we were all blown away by how delicious the food was and how affordable it was. Little platters of amazing food which we shared. Desert was also to die for and can't be left out. Definitely Coming back and definitely telling others to seek this place out. Cheers for the amazing experience and thank you to the South American waitress who was amazing - sorry I forgot your name.

Was planning to go to Orbit but stuck in traffic for almost an hours, so has to cancel my reservation and chosen this Spanish tapas restaurant which is also part of Skycity group. The food in general is not bad but also too salty to my taste. Seafood Pealla was okay, lamb is certainly the highlight of the day, slightly pricy but reasonable in terms of location and setting.
Foodathon
My favourite Spanish tapas place in the heart of the city! Great dishes and drinks in a cosy setting on Fed Street, kind of hidden away from the hustle once your inside. They also have live music on some nights too.

We went for restaurant month. Should have done our research because the restaurant month menu was a joke - small helpings and expensive for what it was.

We ended up ordering off the regular menu. Food was tasty but we all left feeling extremely ripped off. I've been to many tapas restaurants but none with portions as small as Bellota. Also ordered cocktails which were very small too!!

You are paying for the location. The food is good but overpriced.

Went in for only a drink however with such Fantastic service, we ended up staying for the amazing food also. Recommend the mussels, great set up where there is enough privacy for each table. Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Came here for the first time with the Spanish wine fiesta. It was a lovely evening which included 7 wine tastings and tapas.
I really like the feel of this restaurant. It feels warm and inviting. The wine tastings were interesting. They had a good range and I enjoyed the story behind the wine. The tapas were good too but unfortunately only were able to get about 5 pieces so we decided to order some food from the menu.
We ordered a charcuterie platter, duck liver pate, beef ribs and deep fried goats cheese balls. Everything was absolutely superb. Especially the beef rib. The iberico charcuterie platter was very good but I am not sure if it did contain Jamon iberico. Overall this place is a really good for tapas. Great ambience too. Will definitely be back.

Visited there for getting the firsthand experience of their Auckland Restaurant Month menu for $ 25.00 with two tapas and one glass of Sangria. Food was not bad, but I prefer spicy chimichurri sauce for deep fried empanada. And there were just two prawns and two mussels some very small pieces of pork belly were included in the paella. Vary far from the normal Spanish paella in other restaurants. Service was not bad, too. Music was great.

This cozy spanish restaurant /lounge bar has been here for years and is always jammed packed with people. Well I can see why, it being located in the heart of the city, amazing interior with dim lights and cozy seating arrangements. Furthermore, it has a live Spanish singer I think every night if I'm not mistaken and friendly staff. Even most of the staff are Spanish which keeps the theme very authentic. They have inside and outside seating. Their outside seating has heaters for those chilly nights.

We sat indoors. Cozy booth seatings and booth bar seatings with dimmed lighting. Their wines and drinks menu is quite broad. Even the wines they serve are all Spanish so can get confusing what to order. The waitress was very helpful and informed me that the light bodied wines taste like pinot noir. She was right it is smooth to drink. Very nice. Good lounge bar for a glass of wine to relax and unwind.

Their food menu consisted mostly of tapas, cheeses and desert. We werent hungry so decided we will be back another time to try out their dinner. However, looking at other customers dishes it looked beautifully presented and appetising :)

Having just flown in from dunedin we were starving and in need of lunch. Having visited most of the other federal street restaurants on previous trips, we walked over to Bellota to see what was available.
We were pleasantly surprised to find a special lunch menu of entree and main for $20!

We both chose chorizo & pork belly with lentils for entree. Not a pretty dish, but really hearty and full of flavor. Lentils made it filling too. About bite 5 size pieces of pork and 2 of chorizo, so just right.
Bonus was the toasted bread brought out to accompany the dishes and dip in the lentils.

For mains I chose crispy squid whilst husband had sausage & butter beans.
The squid was tender, crispy and hot. It was served with dressed salad leaves & mayo. Really delicious but just missing a wedge of lemon for flavor.
The sausage looked home made and had great flavor whilst the beans were very creamy and rich.
Both quite filling.

Lunch was served quickly and staff were very friendly and helpful.
Good value and great for when you want something for lunch that doesn't involve a bread roll.

We left happy and full.

Spanish food is amazing, and I was very pleased to taste those great, fresh ingredients at Bellota.

They have dozens of delicious tapas, cheese, seafood and all sort of wines, including the exquisite Jérez and the tempranillo grape, a grape variety very famous in the european country.

I couldn't start with anything but the jamón iberico, the cured ham that is one of my favourite foods. The one they have in the house is very good and it came sided by good bread and tomato sauce.

Also had some deep fried seafood, which was a little bit greasy, but tasty, and a delicious grilled pork.

Service was good, although sometimes was hard to find the waitresses.

The only find I really didn't like was the loud mexican (I guess) music.

I

Work in Auckland continues. I continue to be impressed by the congeniality of Kiwis and how pleasant Auckland is as a city. For tonight, a friend suggested heading near Skycity and grabbing dinner at Depot Eatery and Oyster Bar, his favourite restaurant in Auckland. I got down to a nearby cafe to do some work and finished early so I decided to grab a drink and snack before dinner. Right next to Depot was Bellota, a Tapas bar that is part of the Skycity hotel. I thought this would be a great way to make up for the mediocre Spanish experience we had the night before.
Sarah Allen
Great authentic and nice staff - Spanish waitress in a Spanish place really created the atmosphere. Tapas were amazing. Seating inside was relaxed and private which is good for small groups and couples. Cocktails were original and good (who knew aloe vera tasted so good!) and not overly pricey for Federal Street.
Al
Just delicious tapas, easy to drink pink cava (too easy!) n great people watching spot - best "side" of the street to dine 😊
Ideal way to spend a Kate Sunday afternoon

I started with the ""Spanish Classic"" of Serrano ham and Manchego cheese. It was nice and the perfect size starter. Next I tried the Grilled pork ribs marinated in honey and ginger served with barbecue sauce - very nice & beautifully tender. I didn't need any pud at this stage but couldn't stop myself from ordering the Churros con dulce de leche - dusted in chilli-orange sugar and caramel. They were perfectly crisp on the outside and soft in the middle.
I was sitting outside - no chance of being cold with the amount of heat coming out of the heaters.

Helpful staff and mouth watering spanish food- tapas. My first ever experience of a Spanish tapas bar...and it rocked!!! Must try the lichee fresco (cocktail), Gambas al ajillo tradicional, pequillo pepper filled with fish & prawns And the dessert platter.

Great place for casual tapas or as we had - pre dinner before moving on to other fantastic places. The portions were a little small given the price, but were richly flavoured and well presented.

I had some after work tapas tonight (Yes, on a Sunday) at Bellota and I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. Our waiter and the girl at the bar were fantastic and they made me feel at home from the first moment.

There was some very good 90's Spanish Pop on the music playlist that we all enjoyed a lot and not cheese "flamenco" or "sevillanas", which is old people's Spanish folklore that nobody listens to back in Spain. The place was cozy and comfortable and we ordered some wines and beers and tapas.

The "Proximo" tempranillo and "Barbazul" shyrah were delicious and one of my friends liked the Moritz beer, a boutique beer from Barcelona. The tapas were great but we expected the portions to be a little bigger. We saw the "Jamon" (Spanish prosciutto or dried ham) going to another table and it looked amazing; if you can afford it you must try it, it is a delicacy.

I would go back for a wine and the music.
Foodie
The private couches were very comfortable. Sangria was yumm however the tapas portions were very small compared to the price- 4 pieces of prawn for $15.50 (but was delicious) and chicken wings were tasty too. Ambience was great with live spanish music and spanish waiters were nice too. Would return again for Sangria :-)

Visited Bellota on a Monday night and it was still reasonably busy.. Quaint dimly lit booths and tables make this place romantic and a good hideaway! We went for the well recommended goats cheese balls with honey and almonds which are super! The chorizo with onion relish was ok, pork belly was interesting flavours but should have eaten it fresh as was a little dry. The pork and beef meatballs with mushroom sauce are the BEST and would definitely come back for these!

Empanadas are a different flavour each night and was chicken, cheese and verges with a green sauce I wanted to drink! Super fresh tasting ingredients which is hard to accomplish in a fired dish... Would recommend for the food, but service was not amazing-granted it was a Monday night!

If you like a strong sangria this is not the one for you-though I loved the sweet taste!
Would be good to start an evening here before a show...
Varsha Paul
A bit disappointing. Will not return as the food and service do not match up to other similar restaurant/bars that offer tapas. The service was poor and food mediocre

Beautiful ambience, intimate dining booths and a perfect first date location. Great wine and sangria. The nights where live music is playing = 👌🏽
I've been here a few times but the one thing that has let it down (hence the 3.5) is the staff- it's hard to get clear specifics about menu items and they do push you to order things you don't necessarily want.
My favorite tapas is the goats cheese balls with honey- to die for.
Because of the food and the atmosphere- I will be back- hopefully the service improves.

This place never fails to provide good wine, good service, and good tapas food. Whether you are looking for an intimate setting or a casual night out, I think this place blends well for both occasions!
The staff is friendly, attentive and makes this place feels authentically Spanish. Music is set at the right volume and at certain nights, there is even live Spanish music.

One of my must eats when I come here is the Deep Fried Goat Cheese with runny honey and almonds. Goat cheese is not my favourite due to the strong flavours but somehow the cheese complements really well and reduces that pungent goat taste. So good!

Never had a bad experience here, hence the 5 stars!

We ate at Bellota last night and had a mostly disappointing meal. The waitress led us right in suggesting 5 tapa dishes as dinner for two. Of these, the only one that was really good with no complaints were the chicken wings, falling off the bone and delicious. The pork belly had an absolutely delicious sauce that I could have had a glass of, but sadly the pork was very fatty and the skin was flabby and rubbery. Gambas al Ajillo is one of our favourite dishes normally, so this was the most disappointing. They came with large prawns, the first mistake as this dish is better with lots of small shrimp. And these prawns tasted old and unwashed. The sauce was just oil with not much flavour. Of the others, the Albondigas had rubbery meatballs and the snapper was bland, though both came in very delicious sauces. Even the bread was unexciting, just some very soft white bread that could have come from Countdown, though the tomato and olive oil dip that accompanied it was yum. We ended with the dessert platter, another disappointment. Churros were soft and fluffy, perfectly cooked, but had no flavour and the caramel sauce that accompanied it just tasted strange. The Crema Catalana had a nice crunchy top but a watery interior while the almond cake was the best of the three but still pretty unexciting. The service was excellent and ambiance very nice, especially the live music, but if not for these features and those delicious sauces, I would have scored a lot lower. Bellota was on my list of places to try and now I have and will never return. A big disappointment for a Peter Gordon restaurant, I expected it to be much better.

My friend brought me here on a Friday night and we forgot to book a table so we had to wait outside. Loved the atmosphere here and the staff are very attentive. They even gave us water while we waited at the bar table.

We ordered empanadas and that was my fav dish of the night for sure! We also ordered the beef cheeks, bread and ham platter. Love this place!

Definitely will come back!
Rebecca MacDonald
I love tapas, I feel like they are the perfect meal option for me as I always find it hard to decide what to eat, so with tapas you get to eat a little bit of everything! I went there last night with a friend before we went to a play at Q theatre. Bellota is another place where you can't book and when I have been there before it has been ramed, but we walked in and got a table almost right away. Inside it is dark and the tables are like small booths, it would be perfect for a romantic date! The menu is Spanish tapas, developed by Peter Gordon.
We has the Chistorra - Grilled chorizo with capsicum and onion relish, Tomate, feta y aceite de Albahaca - tomato, feta and olive paste on toasted french stick, Bolas de queso de cabra - deep fried goats cheese with honey and almonds, Albondigas con setas y salsa de almendras - beef and pork
meatballs with almond sauce and mushrooms and Croquetas clasicas españolas - chicken and Serrano ham with
cheese sauce.

It was the perfect amount for two and amazing!

Had a wonderful dinner at Bellota yesterday. Got a table straight away on a busy Saturday night.
We ordered 6 different dishes which were all exceptionally good, our absolute favorite was the white asparagus.
Really good wine selection, the cocktails however need some more love - the passionfruit caipiroska was quite unbalanced, the berry caipirinha undrinkable (very bitter as there was no sugar added to it, the berries might have to be fine strained to give it a nicer texture and avoid the muddled berries being stuck in the straws), both drinks also didn't come on proper crushed ice but rather watered down big cubes.
I asked for a replacement and the staff handled this most professionally, was very friendly and apologized which totally made up for it in the end which is why it still deserves a very good rating! Will definitely come back but probably stick to the delicious wines :)
Had a late dinner at bellota, had visited this place for drinks several times but it was the first time I had ordered food and I gotta say I was quite impressed. I must've ordered ordered about 1/2 to 2/3 of the available dish and they were all above average with the highlight being the chorizo, lamb ribs and the chilli garlic prawns. The service was very attentive without being too intrusive which I thought it hit the sweet spot. I'm definitively coming back for the other half of the menu.

When we first came to bellota we had a horrible experience. A waitress made a racially insensitive comment to us. After advising the manager of this we were offered a free platter which we did not want. We did only go there for drinks. The waitress came over to apologise but it was mainly her defending herself.
When we left the drinks were on the house and we were given expired casava chip coupons.

I did end up returning because you cannot judge the place by one waitresses (lack of) hospitality service skills.

I came with someone else because the other person refuses to return.
We ordered sangrias and a few tapas.
The price and quality of food was really good.
We had clams in a really yummy marinara sauce and the servings of clams was very generous.
Also, the dessert platter was a huge hit with us.

The good and drinks are really good but the first impression of the service was a little upsetting.

Good food and atmosphere. Loved the Spanish music that was playing as well. However, food was ok 2 out of 4 dishes we ordered were great but the other 2 a bit of a let down. Chicken wings were a bit bland and the garlic Sautéed prawns were great but there were only 4 pieces in the bowl. This was very disappointing. Calamari and cassava chips were very great. Overall would definitely come back again :-)

La cuisine espagnole! Simply amazing~ (except the chicken wings, you can get better ones in countdown) ? Auckland CBD was really crowded tonight.. We just ordered whatever the waiter recommended us, and I couldn't think of any word other than 'delicious' to describe the food we had xx the lamb ribs ?

YUMMO! Delicious tapas and sangria. Highly recommend. It is definitely a bit dear, but well worth it when you're with special company or for a lovely evening out.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Bellota last week. We arrived for pre- show tapas and were seated promptly.

We ordered the Croquettes, lamb ribs and beef cheeks. The portion sizes were very generous compared to other tapas eateries we had been to and were executed wonderfully. The Croquettes were light and crunchy on the outside with a creamy center. The lamb fell off the bone with melting fat which oozed out as I bit into it. The stewed apple and honey were perfect accompaniments. The beef cheeks were soft and I liked how the berry sauce wasn't overly sweet.

We opted for the dessert platter to finish. The churros were the best I've had and the dolce de leche is a much better dipping sauce than the usual chocolate.
Mrspotandmrlid
I think we went on an off day- the food albeit tasty all the sauces seemed a tad too reduced leaving the tender clams in a broth that was way too salty, the fall apart beef cheeks in what seemed like a golden syrup textured blueberry sauce, meltingly beautiful lamb ribs covered in a honey toffee that stuck your teeth together and goats cheese balls that were forgotten altogether... The wine was delish the service was attentive- and I know on a good day the food can be great, was just a shame it wasn't today.
Great food, true tapas style....small tastes of deliciousness! The Bellota team are attentive without being pushy and very helpful. Definitely worth another visit or three.

Great place to eat and have a catch up with friends. The gun and beer is great place the outside tables are a great way to speak the evening

We went here for our wedding anniversary and we both loved the food, drinks, service live music and ambiance. We'll definately come back here again.

Poped up on a saturday night and it turned out to be an excellent choice. Lovelly, cosy place. A pretty good selection of tapas, very well done. Delicious food!

I came here last night for my birthday as a last minute decision which turned out to be pretty good! The individual tables were all full but we were fine with sitting on the shared long table.
It's mostly sharing plates so between myself and my bf we got the squid, prawns, ribs, chicken, and empandillas. The prawns were my favourite, they were garlic and chilli. It was just sad there were so few! The chicken and squid were pretty standard and tasty, and the ribs were delicious (my bf thought they were strange though). The empandilla flavour was beef cheek, potato and onion and they were so good! A really nice filler to go with the other relatively light tapas.
All those plus a beer only cost $65 dollars so it's also really good value for money. Overall a nice place and I'm likely to go back at some stage for some yummy Spanish food.

I went with a friend at peak time on a Friday and the restaurant was reasonably busy. Front of house told me it would be an hour, even though there were plenty of vacant seats out front.
Started with cocktails, both were delicious! We were pretty hungry so got to try a good range from the tapas menu.
The prawns were well cocked but lack flavour. The ribs were really good. The crumbed goats cheese balls were not to my liking, would rather mozzarella. The chicken and jamon croquettes were our absolute favourite, so delicious. Our chicken wings were forgotten off our order but since we weren't in a rush we waited, definitely worth it, super yummy with great flavour. So overall the food was pretty good.
The waitstaff brought multiple dishes to us that we hadn't ordered which was disappointing, also no one asked us if we wanted more drinks.
Great atmosphere, federal street is fantastic at night :)

overall pretty good but i must say it was not as good as some of the other restaurants i've been to in sky city. But having said that the food was pretty nice and the atmosphere as well. Staff were also very friendly and thus i would come back again

This place is SO cool!
We came here for dessert and drinks on Saturday, and found the ambience to be just right. Dimmed lighting and latino music set the mood. The seating options were varied: from long leaners both outdoors and in; to the warming style of decor within little eating areas separated from each other by booths or black wood-work. We took over a comfy thick leather lounger in one of these bays, and settled in for some great conversation and fabulous drinks and churros.

My dessert wine matched the churros perfectly. And the Argentinian waitress was excellent - very attentive, and especially enthusiastic, even writing down the name of 'dulce de leche' and telling me where I could buy it at a local shop she discovered too!

We both loved this place, and hope to be back for a full round of tapas sometime soon :)

I'd been here 18 months ago so when going to see a show in town recently I decided to return there and show my mum what a great place it was.

My mum was pleasantly surprised!

Unfortunately as my mum doesn't eat cheese it ruled out quite a lot from the menu, but we still managed to find plenty to order.

The dishes came out at a good pace allowing us to enjoy each one before another came out without us having to wait long in between.

The staff were very pleasant and attentive.

Really the only negative thing we could say was the the calamari was a let down. The batter tasted like the oil hadn't been hot enough when they fried them. Unfortunately this was the last dish we were served so it left a bit of a negative taste in our mouths, but we know not to order it next time.

We will return at some point.

We went to try Bellota out on Valentine's day with a $100 deal voucher I purchased a few weeks ago. As students, we were delighted with the outcome - with the voucher costing us $25 each we had a lovely meal and got to try some new things. I liked the tasting platters and especially the serrano ham. I've tried serrano ham in other places and been disappointed with the saltiness of the meat. This one was wonderful and so good I had to order a board entirely of serrano ham later...

The tapas menu is really unique and although some of it is very expensive, I'd recommend the octopus with potato - this was really special.

The staff were all nice and friendly, and food came out very quickly.

I'd love it if Bellota came out with another $50 for $100 voucher - I'd definitely buy another! But without it there is no way I'd go and eat here, purely because it's just so expensive.

The taste is OK, but not good value for money, it is over expensive for the amount provided in each tapas.

The website quotes 'We want you to have as authentic a tapas experience as you'll find in Auckland'.

We arrived mid-evening and were politely advised there were no tables left but we could sit at the bar and we did so happily. We had only stopped for a quick chorizo dish and a drink each so the bar was perfect. We ordered our dishes and drinks through the Maitre'd but there was some confusion over the chorizo dish we wished to order so we were handed a menu and told to expect a waitress shortly. Our waitress arrived and we ordered our drinks and dish with her. She quickly returned and impolitely asked if wished to order two chorizo dishes as one order had already been placed. With that quickly cleared up our wine/drinks arrived and we sat back eagerly awaiting our chorizo. Prices are up there but, for the location and name, we expected it. Chorizo arrived.... seemed to take a very long time... but it was delicious.

Up to pay the bill and the Maitre'd says to me upon approaching her "is that it?", there was no "did you enjoy your drinks/food?". We spent $50 on two drinks and a chorizo tapa. Not a lot for a meal I suppose but we were passing through to our dinner destination and were after that 'authentic spanish experience'.

Overall, food great
Service, needs improvement (they need to smile)

Disappointed that it's not anyway near the Spanish tapas experience you get in Europe. A little too focused on perfection and lacks the spanish atmosphere! Sorry Bellota we won't be back!

Rice Bran oil instead of Olive oil with the platter! Real Tapas eh suspected watered down spirits...Food good but overpriced...empanadas are a cheap staple in Spain and South America. Staff were fine. Nice place to be on a summer evening. The brand is slipping Peter!

Fantastic lively restaurant.

My girlfriend and I turned up out of the blue on a Saturday evening and found it was packed out, great atmosphere with some nice live music.
Had some wine at the bar and after a short wait we were seated. We had decided to stop at Bellota for a quick bite and a few tapas before heading to the movies. After a small wait, some nice wine and banter with the staff we were seated.
The service was fantastic, friendly and attentive and the food was delicious...would recommend the chorizo, prawns and squid and looking forward to returning for LOTS of tapas!!

I am Italian and I was expecting something more authentic. Unfortunately the menu doesn't match the food. I bit expensive but I guess is normal in Auckland.
I had the empanadas and it was very tasty, but only ONE????, please is $12!!!!.
Service is OK and the maitre d' was very friendly. Another Spanish restaurant that disappoints me in Auckland. Missing Europe with restaurants like that!!!

Bellota has a really unique feel about it as soon as you walk in and sit down, it's always had something interesting for me, and I don't see that changing.

I like the selection of the Bar, and the Food is nice.

The decor at this restaurant is amazing! It was extremely cosy and intimate, which made it seem very inviting.

However, I came as a group of 6, and we given "the biggest table"- which was tiny! It was a struggle to squeeze everyone's water glasses and food on the table's surface, although the staff were attentive and removed plates which had been finished.

Main gripe is probably the cost- smaller serves than I would have expected for the price (yes, I am aware this is a tapas restaurant...), and while the food was tasty I have eaten better elsewhere, for cheaper. Especially for a restaurant associated with Peter Gordon, I thought the food was only average to good.

Would still dine here again, but not my first choice.

Would have given 3.5 stars. Our first two dishes (beef sirloin montadito and cassava chips) were delectable and set high expectations for the rest of the dinner, which unfortunately our other dishes did not meet. The polenta fritters were deep-fried balls which were dark brown on the outside, and I couldn't really taste the ricotta, watercress or haloumi in it. The hapuka dish didn't seem to go that well with the rockmelon and edamame salsa it came with. The pork belly was good, but well, not amazing. Perhaps our expectations were too high because of the prices. Overall rating was also lowered because you had to sit at a coffeetable the same height as the sofa seats you were on (very uncomfortable), unless you were lucky enough to get one of the three real tables, or didn't mind sharing a long bench with strangers.

Not a cheap night out, more a special occasion place. Thoroughly enjoyed it once we moved to the private sofa area, wasn't so keen on sharing our table with others first.

Been here a few times, is pricey but the food and wine selection is worth it. Really nice to bunker down for a couple of hours with friends after work and unwind. You can spend a fair bit here but the staff are always happy to split the bill without the usual glare you can get from some places.

Lovely decor, top rate service. Tapas menu suited us perfectly. No NZ wines but the staff were helpful with suggestions of Spanish specialties.
Not cheap, but yummy and well worth the $$.

Bellota is the sexiest thing about Sky City. This cosy little tapa's bar is Peter Gordon's brainchild, and sources all of it's inspiration, most of it's offerings and even some of it's staff from Spain! The design is super cool & super intimate - either sit out the front & enjoy a cigar with your port, or nestle into one of the cosy cushioned alcoves with your sweetheart & canoodle the night away over Iberico ham & pintxos.

I have never been disappointed by the ever-changing tapas selections on my many visits here, but my personal favourites are the Seared Beef with Shallot Jam & Lemon Aioli served on bread (Filete sellado de longrono) and the Lamb Ribs with Apple & Honey (Costillas de cordero con miel). The lamb ribs are an absolute delight; a combination that sounds more suited to pork but the honey completely lifts the sweet, juicy lamb to new heights.

A night at Bellota wouldn't be complete without a cheeky little glass of cava or Pedro Ximenez sherry......and maybe a churro or two?!! Si señor!

If you liked this review, check out more like it at: http://kiwifoodwonders.com

I'm a little bit obsessed with Spanish restaurants but rightly so I think - the Spaniards serve great tucker! Best on the menu here at bellota is the jamon iberico, the garrotxa cheese with honeycomb and to be honest, any of the many tapas - all very authentic and bursting with flavour ... the indoor/outdoor flow is fabulous and feels very much like you could almost be on the Ramblas in Barcelona.
