Review Food Truck Garage - Auckland Central

Julia Nuutila
Cute and relaxed place, and the food was delicious! Tasty fish tacos with a lot of fillings and burned broccoli was perfection. Nice and fast service as well. Highly recommend ✌🏼

Great food and service! I had the Classic Cheese with fries/Chips. I wasn’t sure what libation to try and she gal brought me a flight! The young lady that helped us was SUPER friendly. Wish I could recall her name; she deserves Kudos as well. Jordan was great for suggesting things to do and super kind.
Dana Young
I would give 3.5 stars if I could. Food was a 3 star but service was a 5 star !! I thought the fish burger lacked flavour and the kumara chips were average. It’s definitely a good choice if someone is looking for healthy alternatives... otherwise the food tasted like home cooking.
Jae Park
Burgers look nice, but they are too big to eat without making a mess. Tastes great and good service otherwise.

Came back after many years and still enjoy the quality of the food. The prawn taco was particularly good! Place is also very trendy and staff super friendly
sawmillguy
Very friendly service, checked my vaccine passport. I had the jackfruit tacos and they were super yummy. Highly recommended.

Food Truck has consistently great, healthy food and is one of the only places to go in the CBD where there is easy parking. Big fan of the jackfruit tacos, highly recommend them.

Went in with high expectations based on recommendations from friends, and wasn't disappointed. Delicious food, beautiful presentation, good portions, friendly staff. Fish and chips was spectacular, and we also enjoyed a great smoothie and the "burnt broccoli". Lots of fun hot sauces at the table too.

Fantastic restaurant. Staff are super friendly and helpful. Beefroot burger was delicious and my partner raved about her Aztec Chicken burger. Beers on tap were great. My new go-to
Alex Diveg
Great idea of a place. Reasonable food and trendy pricing. Could do with a bit of clean up on toilets and cutlery, but nothing major worth noticing.
Business Bob
Quirky little location that reminds me of Box Park or the likes in Hackney & Shoreditch London UK. Girlfriend is a Vegetarian and my sister a healthy eater but yet my son and I want meat so Food Truck Garage provided the perfect balance! Great spicy chicken burger and wraps are huge and filling. Even the Pink Grapefruit soda was delish! Would definitely recommend.

10/10 food is so delish and looks so good! staff arent too shabby either ;)

A regular hangout for me. Great food and selection of drinks. If you don't like something on the menu, they're happy to try and change it up. As for drinks, they're happy to experiment with ideas. Love this place. The team are definitely what makes the experience worthwhile. Also, doggo friendly!

Staff were lovely and the service was quick. The food was really yum and very filling. 10/10 Would recommend! The burnt broccoli and kumara chips were the highlight!!!

The location in city works depot is convenient. Although it doesn’t quite compare to some nearby options such as Odette’s. The chicken tacos were shockingly spicy. Like far spicier than expected and the service despite going at a slow time was inattentive and snail-like
PPN
Loved the juicy chicken wraps and friendly service. Staff were considerate about specific dietary requirements. Will be back again. Thanks

The place located in City Works Depot has an indoor area and outside area which look perfect for summer. I sat down, looked at the menu, and ordered the Spicy chicken burger for takeaway, but might as well as had it there as the burger was prepared and given to me within a few minutes. The burger is surprisingly not greasy so doesn’t leave you that fatty feel-bad feeling after eating it, might be even more tastier with more sauce/marinade on the meat. The bun was so good. The food on the menu looked kid-friendly too and there were in fact a couple of families with kids dining there. Service was welcoming and friendly

I came here with friends after work, service was slow despite it being quiet. Between us, we got a mix of burgers, wraps and fries. The burgers and wrap were standard but fries were delicious especially the aioli sauce 👌

Dined here with friends last night but unfortunately my friend suffered an allergic reaction to one of their burgers. We were clear about her allergies when we ordered and specified she was allergic to dairy, nuts and egg. While we were eating, my friend's tongue swelled up and she had to use her epipen. We asked the waiter what the burger had and it had pesto sauce blended with pine nuts and cashews. I felt her situation was not dealt with more seriousness than it deserved. When we went to pay, our server felt nonchalant about the situation and did not even bother to check if my friend was alright. Allergies could be a life threatening situation and can't be excused with "sorry, the nuts totally slipped out of my mind." My friend got worse during the night and had to call an ambulance because she suffered an anaphylactic reaction to cashews. She had to stay in the hospital overnight and is yet to be discharged. Food truck garage, please be careful and take orders concerning allergy requirements more seriously. It is seriously life threatening if not handled with proper care and attention. I am extremely disappointed.

Friendly service and nice enough environment but food was a bit average - not great but not terrible eit

Food portions just keep decreasing each year, but still good quality nevertheless. Burrito bowl and fish wrap are must-try. Atmosphere and service is always good

Pretty delish! I love their healthy spin on food here.... and it’s tasty!
A great spot to go if you’re looking for “fast food” in the CBD.
Love city works Depot , so pleased for my wallet and wasteline I don’t work there!
A bit quiet in the weekend though. Weekdays are definitely the happening times....

Love their burger bowl! Kumara chips are amazing as well. Coffee there is always good. We come often to grab coffee and go. Their salads are great as well

At least four times a week I pass by this place as we walk or sometimes jog from Office to Victoria Park to play touch rugby twice a week, one for a social game and another one for the league game and either way it is tormenting because our games are usually at 12 noon. Smelling that amazing burger scent makes you feel hungry on the way to the game and even punishing after the game as we are rushing back to work no time to order one. Every time I pass by it, I swore to myself, one day I will be the one looking at those running to Victoria Park while having my delicious burger.
Karina
Came here with a friend for lunch and we both got the natural sodas to drink. I had the raspberry and mint and my friend had the blueberry and lime and we didn't think they were sweet enough but that could just be because they are 'natural'. To eat I got the 'aztec chicken tacos' and my friend had the 'burrito bowl' with chicken. The food was presented really nice and colourful and is good for photos. We both thought the chicken was too spicy though. Otherwise it was pretty good. Think I wanna give it another go and try something else next time.
Gourmet Vegetarians
I hit up @foodtruckgarage a while ago and tried their vege options - the epic vegan burger and vegetarian nut mince tacos.⁣
⁣
The falafel burger patty was pretty fab - it was very moist and flavoursome, and the toppings complimented it quite nicely - but it was the sauces that really made the meal - the burger was oozing with garlic aioli, sun dried tomato pesto and beetroot relish. The main downsides of the burger I’d say were that the buns were slightly dry and the other toppings (lettuce, red onion, tomato) were a bit too generic tasting. It is a good option if you’re a vegan looking for that classic burger flavour combo though 👍🏼, 7.5/10. ⁣
⁣
The nut mince tacos were stuffed full with a tomato salsa type thing, a delicious chipotle yoghurt, sweet corn and yoghurt. Once again it was the sauces and the mince here that made the dish - I’m never big on lettuce in tacos or burgers, and I also felt like FTG were at a bit of a disadvantage as I’d only recently come back from Mexico so any tacos would struggle to compete, but I did really rate the nut mince so 8/10.

Excellent place to dine! What makes it better is that there's parking right in front!

Ordered the spicy chicken burger which was delicious. The mushroom burger advertised on the black board was great too, however it was a bit more expensive than the chicken. Definitely recommend the chicken if you want to get more bang for your buck.
I don't think there's a place quite like this in Auckland. The atmosphere, despite being in the middle of the city, is genuine and upbeat. Everyone working there is enjoying themselves. The street style food and drinks are bang on, the tacos were straight out of Mexico with a fresh hand made tortilla and Aztec style chicken, delicious and authentic flavor with a healthy touch of chipotle yoghurt for a sauce. We tried the special which was a Scotch fillet burger, $22, fair price for a nice 150g portion of scotch which was melt in mouth and set off with a chimichurri sauce. The agrias were obviously freshly cut and dangerously good with the vegan aioli. I should mention that it's made FAST, within 12 minutes in a reasonably full restaurant, and the food was hot, fresh and delicious. You can wash down the food with a cool selection of craft beers. Top spot!

The food truck garage was a bit damn disappointing. I got the burrito bowl and a blueberry and lime soda my friend got the aztec chicken tacos and the raspberry and mint soda. My burrito bowl was average to say the least I just expected it to be a bit nicer and I didn't like the drink at all was very underwhelming. My friend found the tacos very spicy so was hard to enjoy she wouldn't get them again and she also found her drink below average. The service was good but the food was another story don't really recommend there's much nicer mexican food at other places x

The location 🌝🌝🌝🌝🌝
The price 🌝🌝🌝🌜
The mood 🌝🌝🌝🌜
The taste 🌝🌝🌝🌝
The foods in the picture
1. Spicy chicken
2.redergize bowl
3.kumara chips
4.steinlqger beer
=33.00(seperate 2peopel)
It was so good to sit down outside in good weather.
It was a little but expensive but the amout was quiet big. If two people eating a little order 2 menus, you can remain some food. We are greedy person, so we ordered 3 menus plus 2beer. So we remained a lot of food. We got a takeaway box we took away some putting in box.
The burger is too big to eat neatly. You can be dirty person.

One of the few places in Auckland CBD where you can park your car (paid) and walk less than 5 metres to your restaurant. A selection made by a former colleague who was returning to Europe, I thought it’s only fare my colleague pick where he would like to dine.

The vibe of the foodtruck is fantastic, its casual and fun which makes it an ideal spot to catch up with friends and family. I like how they have a car park outside their restaurant, means people don’t have to worry about parking. In terms of what we ate, we ordered your pub-gastro classics; the beetroot beef burger, spicy chicken tacos and the grilled all vegan wrap with bowls of agria & kumara fries. In terms of drinks we had their Natural blueberry and lime sodas perfect for a hot summers day, you’ll appreciate how the sodas aren’t overly sugary.

Our meals took around 15 minutes to come out, which I suppose was standard. Burger was juicy and wholesome, the tacos to my surprise were vibrant colorful and packed with flavor while my friend said the vegan wraps is one of the best vegan dishes in Auckland CBD. We ordered too much fries, because the portion amount was massive!

Showstopper: Tacos and Vegan Wrap

OVerall Grade: B+

Highly recommend. Each plate has large portions. The salad surprises me and will definitely come to this place next time to try the famous humbugger :)

If you’re craving veggies this is the place to be.
I love this place cause they don’t dress thier salad in thick creamy sauces or drown it in oil. Yes I know those kinds of salads are yum too but they kept it light but still so good you’re thinking why don’t I eat veggies like this more often haha
But anyways great location and super big portions on don’t worry about not feeling satisfied when you leave!
Highly recommend the Redergize Bowl + chicken!
It literally keeps you full for hours to the point where you don’t even feel hungry for dinner haha

Love the location, nice and quiet and away from the chaos in the city. As for food, there are some good options to choose from. I tried out the chicken tacos and they tasted great! The chicken was nice and tender and nicely seasoned. The natural sodas can be a hit or a miss depending on what flavour you get, I got the raspberry and mint and I didn’t find it as nice as I thought it would be, maybe the other sodas such as lemonade and cola would have been a better option for me? Other than that the Agria chips were real good! The vegan aioli along with the chips was just as good and very light which is a good thing as normal aioli tastes quite heavy and fills you up when dipping your chips in. In saying that, heaps of vegan friendly options in their menu which is cool.

Will deffs return to try out their burgers (and maybe the sundaes 🤩).
Dxlche
I ordered their salad and had absolutely no idea that they would give me this much! I could barely finish half of it. Definitely generous with their portions.
The food truck does “health conscious” takeaway food. The salad was well dressed and well thought out with the vege combinations.
I wish that they would cut the portion size and make it cheaper (proportionally) or maybe I just had small stomach space that day :/

I loved this place! The food was amazing and staff truly great. Definitely recommend, I think it’s a perfect option for lunch more than dinner

Alright service but paid $25 for this wrap.... that’s waaaaay overpriced! Was expecting much more from them but unfortunately was pure disappointment
Heather
Absolutely smashing food and excellent service from the delightful William. We tell everyone that’s either an Auckland CBD dweller or visitor to visit this place and try the food. Highly recommend the Beet Burger and raspberry brownie and kumara fries... ahh just get down there and eat it all!!

Great coffee too ☕️
Tanz
Good stuff:
Super tasty burgers, great buns with juicy beef patties and well-marinated chicken. Great ambient, fast serve by friendly staffs.

Downside:
They made a try on spicy coleslaw...personally think it’s a disaster, be sure to avoid that. Also, the cola and lemonade they offer were tasteless...as a original Coke lover I can’t bear that.

I’ve been here about four or five times now and I have literally no complaints from any visit. Today I got the vegetarian burger, raspberry and mint classic soda and the daily flatbreads to share whilst my partner got the same drink with a spicy chicken burger. Hands down, the vegetarian burger is the best I’ve ever had. none of this gross tofu shit that people pretend to like - just delicious kumara and chickpeas and all the good fillings! My partner did note he would have liked some more spice in the chicken but overall really enjoyed it! Love this place

Been here a couple of times and my review has stayed at a stable 5. The service is friendly and fast! The beefroot burger is amazing! It can get messy but it’s worth getting it all over your hands and face. Definitely recommend getting the cheese added in. The agria fries are really good too! Flavoursome and you get a lot for your buck
FOODFANATICJIMMY
To be fair, this review is solely on the dishes ordered last night. I must say that the service was absolutely fantastic. Ambience was spot on and you can almost always trust a restaurant for quality if you can see the kitchen as they prepare your meal.

Our group ordered 3 burgers which included 2 x beefroot burgers and the chicken burger. There was also the fish wrap and two agria fries.

In terms of quality, fantastic. My beef burger was well seasoned, beefy with great sauce between two brioche buns. Let down? That it was $16 just the burger and burger only. Now I do take into consideration the location and quality. Yes it was in the city, and yes it was fantastic service and quality. But if it at least had a bit of salad on the side, it would've made it a much better dish. The size of the burgers aren't huge.

My colleague advised the fish wrap had more salad than meat, but at least better portion.

Now the fries.

Agria is a fantastic potato and I do most of my fries with agria. However, it felt like eating potato pieces rather than fries. The fries were in very small pieces which I felt really let down the rich Agria taste from fully expressing itself.

Overall a very nice restaurant, but may not be a regular go to for me.

If you love fresh salads, healthy burgers and wraps, this is the perfect lunch spot for you!

As the name suggests, the “look and feel” of the restaurant is very fun:casual with a food truck parked out front.

The menu caters to all dietary requirements and makes healthy food yummy!

Had the spiced chicken hamburger here. The chicken is free-range which is a must for me. The salads and sauces were generous and delicious. Friendly staff too.

The people at food truck garage knows what they’re doing when they said they wanted to reinvent fast food, they have transformed traditional notion of regular fast food to healthy and beautiful looking dishes! a must try in cbd!

Food- 9/10
Service- 9/10
Aesthetic- 9/10

The Food Truck Garage is a great place to go for fresh and tasty food with great coffee. The staff are awesome and super friendly. Highly recommend 😊.

One of my favourite things about Food Truck Garage is that they cater for different types of dietary requirements, consistently really good food. Staff are always really friendly and helpful. Great on a summer's day, equally great on a winter's day!
Love My Food
I had the best potato chips in my whole life! Huge portion of Agria chips- well worth the money! Perfectly fried (ie crispy and not dried or soggy), spot on balance of aroma, flavour and perfectly fried, beautiful golden colour ! The aioli is A+! Definitely coming back for those chips! Service is high energy, fast, attentive and friendly.

Food - 4 (5 for the chips!)
Service- 5
Look & Feel -4

I was starving that day and I had the spicy chicken burger, what a great choice, balanced flavors and got messy with the dressing as you should with a proper Man’s burger!
The staff is really friendly too, well done!

Their customer service is appalling. A group of us went there for lunch, we had placed our orders to the staff and they had noted it down. However, nearly 50mins had gone and we still had not recieved any of the food we had ordered. To top it further, when we asked how far our order was they said they forgot to put it through. The staff were not apologetic for the mistake they had made and just told us to put the order through again. With staff like that we chose to leave and go over to Best Ugly Bagels - at least there staff considers their customers. Our experience with the food truck was really bad. We won't be going there again. I wish I could give them 0 star if there was option.
Madi Kidd
One of my favourite places in Auckland for a chicken burger! The whole menu is super yummy, being there multiple times the chicken burger, burrito bowl, and chips are my favs! Sometimes the service can be a bit crappy, however the food never fails.
Chuck E Ramone
If you want cold bland food def hit up this spot. I got the burrito bowl and I’m not sure if anything was fresh. You could tell they just opened the fridge and took each individual element out of big containers and put it on the plate. It was completely devoid of flavour and for its price it’s a huge rip off. Never going back here again.
Winnie Chauchau
Man, I love their burgers. The Kumara brioche bun is heavenly, and just makes the fillings seem like an afterthought. The crumbed fish burger was my personal favourite, but the beefroot is great as well. Be prepared to get your hands dirty, because the chefs pile the fillings high, and are generous with their sauces! Perhaps trying to reduce the water content (drying salad thoroughly before using, and not using the watery part of tomatoes) would help the cause, but having sauce drip all over your hands was part of the experience 😂
I liked how the sodas were just sweet enough, and the flavours were allowed to shine, rather than just sipping on straight sugar cordial. Having tried both the Kumara and the Agria fries, I'd definitely recommend the later because they come out a fair bit crispier than the Kumara (you can get your Kumara fill from their brioche burger buns!). Ketchup was really interesting - tangy and not a flavour combo I've tried before.

Been here a few times and came for lunch, the decor was a bit rusty. The chairs depending on which ones you get especially the black wired ones can leave huge red marks on your legs, if you’re wearing shorts or skirts so do be careful with those. My friend had to walk around after lunch with these deep red lines on the back of her leg since she was wearing a short jumpsuit lol

I ordered the fish burger which was quiet filling, good buns and sauce but the fillet was a bit disappointing. It felt like a defrosted and then fried fillet, nothing fresh. The fish meat was a dry and flaky as well. My friend had the prawn tacos which were great in portion and taste. Chips were disappointing as they were kinda soggy, especially the ones in the bottom half of the bowl.

Overall would come back just for a quick bite but nothing more.
LOVED THIS PLACE! Ahhmazing service, never once were waiting for a waiter, food came out quick and was all lovely and fresh. Even though they had ran out of sundaes the waitress apologized and made great recommendations which both me and my partner loved. Finally a nice place to go for reasonably priced fresh food!
S B
Loved the soft tacos here...so tasty! Great selection of food, and all choices seemed healthy. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with food recommendations. A great place to eat at, and other family members come here regularly. With parking just outside, it is easy to access anytime.

I’ve been here several times now and never dissapoints! Love the brocolli dish and the salads are a good portion. Def one of my fav places to go for a healthy dish :)
Telia Lepa-Bonner
Friendly staff, amazing food and extremely fast takeaway!
Not v fond of the ambience, however, not a major peeve for me as I ordered takeaway the last two times I went. Loved the agria chips but don't find the sauce it comes with all that tasty. A pretty great place all round though!
Amesirv
Love their take on healthy fast food!! Definitely recommend the ‘beefroot’ burger (which I had as a burger bowl) and the tacos and fries were also very tasty 😋 Overall the food and atmosphere of the place makes it a must visit, and points are only off because service was a little bit erratic
Laura Bartch
Overall was a very enjoyable lunch experience.

I ordered the beefroot burger and a side of the agria fries, burger was delicious and very juicy. The fries came with a homemade style tomato sauce which was delicious but only downside to the food was the fries themselves had an odd flavour which seems to have been added that I couldn’t make out.

The sodas are also very nice and I recommend the ginger ale.

Very reasonably priced and the staff are super friendly with great service.
The Burger Man
If you want a meal that is more cabbage than anything else, then this is the place for you. Buy a burger or a wrap and you will get loaded with so much cabbage that you can't taste anything else. Not to mention its will cost more than buying a steak. Waste of money. Highly NOT recommended if you actually want to enjoy your food and be satisfied.
Miss Kiki
I felt like a burger and decided to check out The Food Truck Garage.
I had the fish burger which was crumbed with apple & caper, my sister had the chicken burger which was served with avocado and we shared fries.

The fish burger was delicious. Although out of the two I definitely preferred the chicken burger with the chipotle mayo. It just had more flavour.
The burgers were big enough that fries were definitely not necessary. For me they were also too salty, and I love salt but it was a bit much. I was not a huge fan of the tomato sauce. I reckon they should consider using Simon Gaults tomato sauce which doesn't contain sugar - seems to fit with The Food Truck Garage ethos.
Garima Talwar
Came here for lunch and the food was below average in both taste and size. The food looks amazing but is very very unflavoured and dry. Not my spot!
Sungsam7
To end a girls day out this was a good place to relax and have a meal and drinks.
For starters we had the broccoli very tasty with a kick, kumara chips no one can ever go wrong with these, my tacos were the best I’ve had for a while and the burger on the brioche like bun fresh and packed a punch. All this washed down with cider and a bottle of one of my faves Babydoll.
Was a nice afternoon/ evening as we dined outdoors. Ambiance is great for a spring Saturday. Good attentive service also.
Aroha
I was impressed with the Vegan options here! It's always hard eating out with dietary needs, but this place had it covered. I had the superfoods wrap, which was pretty good, and our table shared the kumera fries. For me what let this place down a little was the service. It wasn't bad, however one of the orders was mixed up and my friend had to wait an extra 15minutes for her food after everyone else had arrived. Also the waitress wasn't the friendliest, it kind of felt like she didn't care that much and was just "getting her job done". Overall pretty good!
Bella Qian
All the food here tasted pretty good but oh man they need to up their portion sizes. The burgers were nice but they were so small! The spicy chicken one's chicken was on the dry side but the fish burger was amazing. Also the spicy chicken honestly was not spicy. The ingredients are fresh, the bun is soft but it was so difficult to eat! Burgers that don't fit into your mouth need to be illegal, eating a burger with a knife and fork is so unsatisfying (sorry I'm uncultured) also the Kumara fries were under seasoned and they paired it with RELISH. WHO PAIRS FRIES WITH RELISH THIS IS AN ABOMINATION TO THE FAST FOOD COMMUNITY. (Sorry I really like fries) so we ended up taking away the fries and using aioli from home. The waiter was nice but there was only one waiter so it was pretty hard to get his attention. I know this place is meant to be healthy but I'm sorry you can't mess with fries. Great place for families tho but not hungry adults.
Sasha Williams
Went here for an early dinner. There were only 2 other tables occupied and 3 serving staff yet the service was absolutely appalling! After trying to catch the attention of staff my husband went up to the counter to order. When food arrived we asked if there was table service and the response was 'yes but we're just slack tonight'. I wonder what happens when the place is full. The stars are reflective of the food, at least the kitchen staff were on the ball.
OD
Good taste, small portions for the price.
Nice service, you can try once you will be happy but not going again , we had the burger and the shrimp tacos and the Kumara chips
Fitfoodie
Ordered a Vegetarian burrito bowl and was really impressed by the flavour and generous size. Heaps of healthy fast food options, will definitely be back.

Edit: came back and ordered the vegetarian burrito bowl and the portion was not as generous maybe they changed the ingredients? They also forgot the wraps off our plates which we didn’t realise was missing and brought them out when we were almost finished. Picture featuring no wraps is my second experience.

Yes! Food truck garage is a new favourite! I'm a big fan of healthy, nutrient dense food, and this restaurant combines the healthy with big, filling, super tasty and super great value! We thought the sodas were delicious, and the kumura chips were a good nibble to start with a yummy salsa sauce. Then we got two burgers - beefroot and vegetarian - both tasty, moist and very filling - also two wraps - superfood and spicy chicken - also both super tasty and super filling - and the burrito bowl - great variety and tasty also. Finished off our dinner with three sundaes - the pineapple lumps one was a little dissapointing, but the jelly tip one was great and I didn't even get to try the pixie caramel one because it was devoured before I got the chance. Great service! Generous portion sizes and you get fantastic value for money. There's a pretty outdoor seating area which would be lovely in the summer time. Will be coming back here for another great meal!

The Food Truck Garage is a new-age, quasi American style burger joint. In a space the size of a shipping container, Food Truck Garage packs a punch with its rustic atmosphere and dietary options for all.

I came here for lunch with a group of work mates. I ordered their signature burger with Swiss cheese, and a pineapple lump sundae.

Things got started with a delicious craft beer brewed by Brothers. My burger arrived about 20 minutes later. The beef was a perfect medium rare and the salads tasted freshly picked. My colleague who ordered the same thing expressed that his meal was "the best burger I ever had". I also hold the burger in high regard as it was delicious.

My one critique is that it needed a side, it simply wasn't filling, even with a beer to wash it down.

I had the pineapple lump sundae for dessert. The sundae was quite disappointing and didn't live up to its iconic name. There was too little sauce, and the ice cream was quite bland. I suggest the build this again from the ground up.

Food Truck Garage is a great place to hangout and the food is also delicious. I expect to be back for another lunch soon.

Dined here for dinner with a friend as we wanted to eat out but still have a healthyish meal. There is a cool industrial vibe at this restaurant which is very fitting for its location at the City Works Depot. The staff were friendly & we were greeted & seated upon arrival. We chose to sit inside as it was nice and toasty on a cold winters night, however there is also some lovely outdoor seating available. There is a large open kitchen where you are able to see the food being prepared, which I always like. The menu has some great options my friend and I both got the spicy chicken burger bowls, we also got kumara fries and broccoli. All of the food was served fast & everything was enjoyable. We decided to try the desserts as well I had Black Forest cheesecake & my friend had a caramello sundae, again the wait time was reasonable & the desserts were nice. Overall we had a pleasant experience & I would probably return again.

Came here for lunch using the grabone voucher. Simply put, this place i'm sure was originally much better but now it's getting bit lazy with what they put out. The prawns in my taco were over cooked and weren't deveined. This meant there was this unnecessary gristly texture and i'm not a big fan of eating sand. The burger was lathered with sauce and the chips came with no sauce. It's saving grace was their raspberry and mint fizzy which was delicious. If they just weren't so sloppy I would give a better score, but their laziness with the cooking is evident.

Came here a while ago and ordered the vegetarian burger and a drink with some mates!

Decent price, food was yum, lots of healthy food on the menu, cozy atmosphere!

It's a good place to go for lunch on a nice sunny day given that it has outdoor seating and an open area.

I tried the spicy chicken burger and it was good, not too spicy thankfully! My friend had the burrito bowl and enjoyed it as well! Food is on the pricier side for the portions and value that you get. They do claim to be on the healthy side so thats a big plus! The food did feel "clean".

Service was ok. We waited a long time for someone to take our order and they never came so we had to track one of them down. Our food came quickly after that so it was a good experience overall!

Decided to give Food Truck a second go tonight, we were extremely disappointed to say the least. I had the vegetarian burger (complete rip off for $14! - a thin nearly non-existent "patty" of tempeh, with grated carrot, lettuce and red onion), and my husband had the "beef" burger which he said was flavourless and lacklustre. But our charred broccoli side took the cake. It was literally inedible on account of the amount of vinegar it had been cooked in. Hard to believe that the taste of the broccoli was completely drowned in the intense sour-ness of the vinegar. Disgusting. $36 dollars later we left feeling hungry and annoyed.

On a side note, we were unimpressed with the service, especially our waiter leaning over to talk to the kitchen staff, with a lot of swearing and bad language. Not acceptable.

Fast food that healthy? Surely that cant be? At food truck this is exactly what you get. Their beetroot burger and chicken burger is amazing and pretty much guilt free because their buns are kumara buns! Their tacos are definitely a must too! This is one of my favourite healthy go-to places. If I lived in the CBD I would probably be here everyday.

Been to Food Truck a couple of times now, they have a great variety of the menu, all suitable for the quick office lunches as well. They have loads of healthy alternative which is always good to see. Service is great and vibes and environment is always in point! The sodas are yum yum as well

Highly recommend the beefroot burger. Top notch burger right there. And the kumara chips!! Omggg 😍😍😍 and the tacos are also super good. I wanna come back and try the other stuff on the menu

Really disappointing! We came here as it was the only half-full place in the area, so thought it would be a safe bet. They got two coffee orders wrong, the coffee was incredibly weak, we requested a large coffee and they said they were out of large glasses (??), they took our order down incorrectly, and all of that was topped off with the food being really average. When we asked for the receipt to check if they forgot anything else, the man working there said: "yeah we probably did (forget something else)". We were going to say something but the manager kept complaining loudly about how busy they were, so we left it. Was probably a bad day? Wouldn't recommend going there when there's a chance they might be busy...

Basic food, Super healthy. Nice little wine selection too. Tried the Beefroot / Chicken tacos and Kumara fries, Beefroot was a highlight, good place to go if you're looking to smash your 5+ a day
Kylie
I ordered the Spicy Chicken kumara burger and a blueberry/lime soda. I liked the taste of the burger and it's definitely a good choice if you like avocado – I got a huge serving in mine. Good amount of salad too. Only criticism is that my chicken was really tough in some spots, it was hard to cut even with a knife. Soda was alright but probably wouldn't order again, could've been a bit more flavourful.

Staff were super friendly though and service was reasonably quick.

The beefroot burger was AMAZING! We ordered it with swiss cheese for add on. Apple cider for drinks and Kumara chips for our sides. Yum! Their outdoors has a great layout - very cozy and hidden from the main entrance. This place can cater to a small or medium- sized crowd. Bring a friend, eat with your family or have a convo with a special someone over beer and great food.

Good Healthy food!

Had dinner with a group of friends last night. I know this is casual dining, but that doesn't mean dirty table and lip printed glass and unprofessional service. The burger is the tasteless one ever. Even worse than Burger King! THE WORST FOOD EVER. Won't go back for sure.

Food: 1/5
Drinks: 1/5
Environment: 1/5
Service: 2/5
OVERALL: 1.5/5

We happened to walk past this place and the whiff of fresh burgers pulled us in! We ordered the beefrooter and the chicken crunch and they were really good!

The beef burger was out of this world! ... easily one of the best burgers I have ever eaten! Strongly recommend this place.

And should I say - absolutely delightful customer service!! :)

The burgers are below average in both taste and size. There are no foodtrucks and for no apparent reason prices are through the roof. Auckland lift your game. This is embarassing

Pretty late in reviewing this place, having had a meal there around July 2016.

Food: Ordered the $25 three course meal during the Restaurant Month 2016. No qualms about the food at all. It was absolutely delicious and well seasoned. I absolutely loved the probiotic yoghurt sundaes. I would go back again for the sundaes!

Service: Fast paced, and polite staff.

Ambience: Rather dim (as you can see by the photos), but not as bad as other places!

For the full review, check out my blog (url linked below).

Was very curious about this place after hearing so much about it, so decided to come during lunch time.
We ordered the Beefroot burger, Chicken burger bowl, chicken burger, soft corn tacos with chicken and a side of kumara chips.

They were all well portioned for what you pay for.
The kumara chips were nice especially with the tomato sauce with it.
I noticed that all of them were bland and me and the 2 other people I was with had to put salt in everything. However, I am not really surprised since I know the place is about healthy eating but flavour wise they were lacking.
I wouldn't mind coming back here again only because it is quite cheap for how much you get and the quality of the food.

I enjoyed my first time at Food Truck Garage back in November. Due to the trendy fit-out, I assumed the menu was full of sharing plates when in fact, their mains are individual servings. The concept behind the food here seems to be a healthy twist on tasty fast food favourites, so they have lots of burgers and burritos. Overall, the style leans towards Tex-Mex.

I ended up choosing the burrito bowl, which was surprisingly spicy. It came with lots of healthy stuff: corn, beans, chicken, quinoa. Definitely tastier and more substantial than most salads I've had.

I also tried their homemade lemonade and it tasted exactly like its name – which is a good thing!

I loved their high quality produce and strong flavours. We were given lovely service and I'd be happy to come again.

But one annoying thing is that they seem to run out of popular ingredients often. At the time we went, this happened to be fish and kumara fries (which I've been told are amazing).

Came here with a group of friends- we all enjoyed ourselves.
The interior was cute, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I was actually on a diet and asked them for a salad with small portions- they managed to whip something up for me and I found it tasty. My friends all seemed to enjoy themselves- definitely interested in coming back and trying something that they have to offer! Great place for a casual meal.

Not really a fan of this place. I had heard lots about it as it's kind of famous from the TV program but I just wasn't a fan of the taste of the burger I ordered. I tried the beefroot burger and hasselback fries. The service was okay, nothing special. Most likely won't be coming back due to my personal preference of taste.
Harley Mitchell
Had a takeaway "Epic Veggie Burger" . Well it was not very epic. Yeah it's probably healthy but could do with a lot more taste and filling.

I've never been a huge fan of burgers, the cravings will come and go in a blue moon.

Tried the food truck since the 2 people I went with never tried it either (except in 2014 during restaurant month maybe?).

I opted for a lamb burger whereas my BFF chose the fish tacos. I forgot what burger her BF got, it might've been the Swiss cheese? Both the burgers came with a cute side of slaw and a nice halved pickle. We also got some charred broccoli, potato skins & a glass of the house made lemonade.

My burger was ok, nothing amazing. I appreciate the size & how filling it was though. The lemonade tasted lemony! A bit like lemon syrup with soda water? The charred broccoli reminds me of the ones from burger burger, although not as burnt or oily. The fish tacos get soggy from the sauce if you leave it too long so you have to eat it fairly quickly before it turns to mush!

Would also recommend this place to put up some parasol umbrellas as the sun actually hurts your eyes if you're sitting in it without sunglasses at the wrong time of day.

I've been to Food Truck Garage at City Works Depot many times and loved it, but they have recently changed their menu and I have to say, it was pretty disappointing. The burger ingredients seem to be of worser quality, my chicken looked like it had come out of a freezer box, and the bowls they serve just have a ton of salad in them and not much else. The Burrito Bowl didn't even have any rice in it. We couldn't get the potato fries because the staff said they turned out raw (we weren't sure why the chefs couldn't fix that problem). I really don't understand why they decided to change a menu that was really good, for something that's definitely a step back. If I was choosing between FTG and something like Burger Burger, I'd definitely choose BB now, whereas it used to be one or the other.

Went today and it was surprisingly empty (possibly due to the crappy weather) considering it's usually quite packed. Food came out really quickly which was a bonus as my friends and I were all starving. Only downside is they somehow forgot my order, which was weird as they still managed to do my friends orders who ordered directly after me. This however was dealt with quickly and I got my food straight after enquiring, and they didn't charge me for that which was great.

Between the 4 of us we ordered 2 sets of kumara fries, 2 burrito bowls (the special of the day) one with chicken and one with the nut mince, the spicy prawn tacos and a vege burger. Note the menu on zomato is a bit outdated, they had a few extras and the prices are slightly different now as well.

The prawn tacos which I had were real tasty, had nice spice and a good amount of prawns. It definitely wasn't the best thing I had eaten but it was nice and filled me up. My friends found their burrito bowls good, the nut mince was a bit odd but still nice and the burger was good too. The highlight was definitely the kumara fries - really chunky thick cut (which i liked) and had just enough salt on them. Personally found the sauce to taste like pasta sauce (not too sure if that is a positive) and it was okay pairing with the kumara fries, might've liked some version of aioli instead.

Overall staff were friendly and did their job well. Nice place, probably not something I'd keep coming back for but definitely was satisfying and I don't regret going :)

I've always wanted to go to the Food Truck Garage but unfortunately it was quite disappointing.

We came here for the $25 Restaurant Month deal - I had the ceviche which was pretty good as it had a reasonable amount of fish in it.
For the main I chose the beetroot burger as it seemed to be one of their signature dishes. It was a bit unique having beetroot in the patty but nothing more special about it. I noticed that if you order a burger on its own it comes with a little side coleslaw, but the restaurant month burger just came on its own! I guess the 'special' price isn't that special as they cut down on the amount of food they give you!
I enjoyed the probiotic yogurt sundae but it was so tiny.

The service wasn't friendly, not a smile on their faces. My friend ordered a cup of tea which came in a coffee stained mug, so not sure if their dishes get done properly. My other friend ordered pomegranate tea but received green tea. She asked the waitress and she said it was pomegranate tea lol the tea was GREEN not RED!! It 100% tasted like green tea. Maybe they should know more about what they serve..

Came here for a little snack and we were seated promptly. The service here was horrible! When we ordered the Kumara fries and chicken taco she responded with "that's it?" In a rude tone. Later on when the food arrived we had to call her (she was on her phone) to get some plates as we were sharing. After all that we finally got to enjoy our food and the chicken taco was really good, chicken wasn't dry and was full of flavour! The Kumara fries were a little too thick for my liking but still not too bad, not a fan of their tomato relish/sauce though. Now, back to the awful service, two of my friends were finished eating however I wasn't and our waitress cleared our empty plates and cutlery away! As she was clearing she asked if we were finished! We felt rushed to finish pay and get out of there! 3/5 for The Food Truck Garage because the food was good but sadly the service was just unacceptable in my opinion. Won't be back.

Super quick service! This place gets YUMMY healthy fast food right!

The highlight of this particular meal is the burger! Juicy patty with amazing flavours, everything tastes like they belong together.

Burrito bowl is very hearty and the sauce is amazing. I had this with prawns which were very well-seasoned!

Chilli broccoli was surprisingly good, effort was definitely put into the dish as it is more than just broccoli that you can make at home.

Tuna ceviche was a bit dry, would have been better with some sort of sauce.

Dessert was amazing! Perfect size and not too sweet.
Overall, great place to go for some tasty fast food that doesn't leave you feeling guilty afterwards!

It was packed on a Friday for lunch!
Burgers seemed popular.
I ordered a salad and friend ordered the spicy chicken burger; both delicious with generous portions!
Love how here, you can satisfy your guilty cravings such as burgers and tacos knowing they will be healthy :)
Burgers come with a generous portion of salad
Also shared the kumara fries which were delicious!
Will come back to try more :)

I've been to this place with my colleagues to celebrate one of our projects success. I ordered the chilli tofu burger and kumara fries as I was looking for vegetarian options. Although I'm not a big fan of tofu, I really enjoyed the burger. The chilli and the seasoning everything about the burger was good. The fries however were a bit too sweet for my liking, could have gone well with hot chilli I guess. Over all everyone enjoyed their experience.

I've been wanting to go to the Food Truck Garage for a while and anticipation often goes hand in hand with disappointment when it comes to restaurants and eateries.
I'm happy to say that it didn't this time around.
We chose to skip the burgers (who looked delicious), and went for a Noodle Bowl and a Burrito Bowl instead. Once again, these were good choices, full of savours and very tasty.
The Burrito Bowl however was quite spicy so don't order it if you don't like it hot.
Cherry on the cake, we didn't have much time to eat and our order came in less than 5 minutes without us even requesting for an express service!
My experience at The Food Truck Garage was without a doubt the worst dining experience I've ever experienced. The place was empty, waitress comes over not even saying hello and plonks 2 menu's in front of us. We ordered 2 tacos and kumara fries. 40 mins later, the waitress comes over and says "the order didn't go through so the chefs are making it now". This waitress had one job and that was to put our small order through to the kitchen, baring in mind the place was empty so she wasn't even looking after other customers. 10 mins later, our tacos arrive, the waitress could barely utter an apology. The tacos were COLD and to top it of that, there was a hair on my plate. I told one of the 'managers' and he said "would you like a replacement or knock it off the bill", I was stunned that this hippie had the audacity to say that. We left without paying for anything.
The customer service I experienced will haunt me forever.

I will not come back here with the intention dining, but I will return.....

I'll admit it - the tv show sucked me in, but I'm bloody glad it did! This place is the BEST eatery to grab a bite post-workout 💪🏻. Fast food with a healthy spin to it 😻. No grease, no oily fingers and happy tummies 💕✨. The staff are lovely and there's something for almost everyone on the menu - even if you love the greasy stuff, you'll be pleased here! I would definitely recommend the basil chicken burger but I sadly would have to admit it was a little over priced 😪. Check this place out after your workout at Les mills!
Diner8Here
not alot of to chose from the menu but site is busy, i take it must be the marketing of the truck and/or curiosity from the TV series. As it was packed, i ordered one of the slaw to take home to taste and was so so, not bad/good, i know the star of the place is the bedford truck, but what is the theme of the menu, Mexican?
someone enlighten this.

Found there when I visited Odettes Eatery on last Saturday night. This afternoon, I just had a limited time to grab snack dish only before went to gym. 100% apple juice was fresh and not too acid. Avocado snack was quite tasty. Great combination of avocado, onion, black sesame seeds and spring onion. Paid $13.00 for them, reasonable price.

Really refreshing amazing food, made me feel so healthy after eating. The beef burrito bowl was my favourite, second was the beefroot burger which was delicious. Only wish the kumara chips were thin and crispy but was still nice.

Really neat space. Stopped in this weekend while on a pub crawl and was impressed. Prices were reasonable and food was great. Got a veggie burger that came with a nice kale salad! Will be stopping in again.

The service was satisfactory. The food was tasty and portion size was also good. The surrounding was absolutely soothing for a relaxing afternoon. For me it was value for money.

Just had a late lunch with friends at The Food Truck Garage. Always very busy, but has a high turn around so tables usually pop up pretty fast. We sat outside and enjoyed the casual "NZ summer" feel to this eatery, with diner-like menus and decor, and lots of pot plants and greenery.

I was impressed at how patient the wait staff were with us given how picky we were being with our food selection today - a lot of food "can't eats". I ended up with the noodle bowl salad but minus the noodles, and with avocado and salmon. Friends had the Swiss burger and the redenergise salad with fries. The food portions are great, and my salad was delicious! The burgers and fries were pretty standard tasting and greasy for a "healthy" take away place.

Overall though, definitely a great take away alternative for when you're feeling like good tasting, fresh food.

I first knew of Food Truck when they came to a food festival downtown. This place delivers amazing food. I love their beetroot burgers, prawn tacos and wedges with mint sauce. The store is spacey, bright and simple which I really like. Though I must say that the customer service is not very good and the waiting time is a bit long. Also the menus varies sometimes between morning and afternoon, weekdays and weekends, so I often check out the menus before visiting, coz I always order prawn tacos and sometimes they don't have it. Another thing I love about this place is whatever you order they are presented so you are able to share with your companions, and the portions are just right, especially for someone who is easily full like me 👍🏼Overall a great rusty friendly place for finger foods 😋

Always wanted to come here ever since the TV show. The place was really chill and hip and had plenty of parking available which is great when eating in town. I ordered the chicken burger and wanted the Kumara fries to accompany it, but unfortunately they had sold out. This was a huge let down for our table as we all were really looking forward to it. Our burger meals felt a little incomplete without Kumara fries. They also ran out of guacamole for the burgers. They did however compensate us with some chips and dip. Service was great and the food was fresh and tasty however the chicken was a little bit dry. It was an alright dining experience, was quite let down from things being unavailable though. Not sure if I would return.

Who says burger joints have to be unhealthy... This place does amazing fresh tasting food and it's not gonna give you a heart attack!!! The noodle salad bowl was full of flavour and fresh, not to mention a good size portion. My husband had the beefroot burger and we also shared the fish tacos too (we were feeling hungry, don't judge). Love this place, relaxed atmosphere to hang out and service was spot on!

I went last week with my partner, we had 2 burgers, basil chicken quite flavourless and the beetroot and beef patty that was absolutely delicious. We wanted to try the corn chips but they ran out of the avocado sauce the same with the kumara fries. The have some craft beers there, so tasty !
Natalie
Food truck is one of my fav places to hit for lunch, it's one of those places that you feel good after eating..all natural ingredients so not bloating or remorseful feelings after you have finished! I love the burrito bowls and the thai salad bowl is so delicious too. If you are around the area on a Monday you can find the bowls for only $12..bloody bargain if you ask me!!
Ann
I've been here once a month. But Yesterday, I had a great time, new menu, friendly staff even the chefs they are all smiling. We ordered a spicy chicken burger, hot tofu, beefroot burger and sides of kumara and super grains. I must admit I love the food they are serving right now. But, it's kinda ironic that the burgers came to us was cut in half already. The burger shouldn't be cut in half unless the customer ask for it. But, food was great and amazing. Definitely my friends and I are coming back.

Nice range of basic burgers albeit a bit pricey for what they are. Good friendly service and cocktails worth a try. Can get busy early evening.

Got a lamb salad bowl which was pretty average. I was disappointed as I did hear good things about this place when they first started. The bowl was bland and the meat was quite dry (such a small portion too!) It was expensive at $15 for what we got. Most probably won't be back.
Elena Ching
I had the lamb wrap for $14 for lunch. The portion was good for me but I think it would be small for others, especially for the higher price point. The ingredients were fresh and I liked how there were a lot of veggies in the wrap making it a healthy lunch choice. However, they really should have put in more of the lamb which was really flavourful and tender but got lost among the veggies. The wrap itself held the ingredients well and was served warm.

Food Truck Garage has a relaxed vibe and we got great service from the waitress.

We came here for lunch after a while of wanting to try it out. The menu is different in a really great way and it's nice to know you are actually getting healthy food that's made in a way to not give you lots of unnecessary calories. We both had a burrito bowl I had pulled pork and my husband had chicken. Both of them were really nice and I would have it again. We also got one of their homemade sodas and that was surprisingly nice.

This used to one of our favourite eateries as we loved the freshness and simplicity of the food, something these guys took pride in. However, fast forward one year and it has lost the very element that helped them make a name for themselves. Tragic as it sounds most restaurants dread this fall from grace but for Food Truck Garage, this is reality. We visited the food truck garage last weekend and whilst it was after almost a year, we were craving for that nostalgic freshness and flavour. But boy were we disappointed! We ordered a couple of burgers- the fish tasted like burnt dry cardboard patties and the chicken burger had a ice-cold chicken breast between the buns! I went back to the counter to check if this was legitimate or they simply made a mistake (as I have had cold sandwiches but never a cold burger) and either way I would have been happy with an explanation. My query was responded with utter apathy with the line " they are meant to be like that". I don’t know if this is a training lapse or simply a result of change in management but the staff seemed totally disinterested. Coming back to the food and freshness, i also ordered something new on the menu - Buffalo Cauliflower with buffalo sauce and green apple and coriander salsa. I will have to say, I was blown away by the mediocrity of this dish. Couldn’t really see any green apple or coriander salsa and all it was a bunch of unevenly cut florets bathed in a spicy hot orange sauce which tasted like something straight out of a good ol' cheap eat off the street whose taste you can never remember because it was too late at night and you were too drunk. And that was not the end of it, this sauce was omni-present on their menu. Calling something a house sauce doesn’t mean you go all out.

Anyway to my point, neither could I taste freshness nor simplicity anywhere. Real shame.

Had our work lunch here the other day and FINALLY got to try food truck garage after hearing so any good things about it. The food was really good but everything seemed to have that spicy kick to it. Not being a fan of spicy food I felt that there was too much but if you enjoy having that kick to your food, I'd definitely recommend it. I think next time I go I will definitely tell them to not put the hot sauce in. Between us we had the beefroot burger, the chicken burger, the loaded spuds both way and the chicken taco. Everything was a good portion for lunch and good value for money. There was indoor and outdoor seating which was great as it was a nice sunny day. The staff are also very friendly and attentive

Clean and healthy for a quick lunch or dinner. The menu is a little limited but it's nice to have traditional takeaway foods kicked up a notch - the taco options are great.

The food was terrible, theres not much of patties in the burgers (we had lamb and beef with beetroot) first time here and im already highly disappointed. The fries with corn and yoghurt tasted horrible too. I would never come back here. Not worth the money.

I like the way this place offers you a choice of having your meat/fish as a wrap or as a bowl (salad) and its also really tasty.
We had the prawn taco, which was great, the fish (bowl) and buffalo cauliflower, they were all great.
It has a nice outside area (where you could take your dog) and its quick service even when its busy (good if you're in a rush)
There is parking but it gets busy.

Prefect clean healthy little spot to hit when the suns out, in the heart of the 09!

We got the open burrito salad with home made lemonade (grouse), it's a little pricy but the the quality is worth it - quality over quantity!

And the home made soft service ice cream is the shizz

I went to this place one day while I was on a trip at Brothers Brewer just a couple shops down from The Food Truck Garage with my course. We had been tasting beer for a while & I got a tad hungry so I walked over and was greeted at the door & handed a menu & also asked if I was eating in or taking away. They let me decide on what I wanted and even gave me some tips on what I should get. I got a Chicken Noodle Bowl and a Ginger Pop. Food looked delicious I had a bit and to my suprise was a tad bit to spicy for my palate but it was very refreshing and tasted really good so I kept on eating despite my burning mouth LOL the Ginger Pop was yum as well!! Will deffinately be eating their again when I'm around the area. I also can not express how awesome the customer service was. High-Five to the staff!!

My first time here and I loved it. I tried the beefroot burger which is the most popular I'm guessing. The ingredients were fresh. Absolutely no grease, so the burger felt lighter and healthier. Using beetroot in the patty is quite innovative. I was sceptical at first, but the beets kept the patty moist and juicy. My only complain is that the patty might have been too juicy. By the end of my burger I was left with a pool of pink coloured juice on my plate.

Remember to wash it down with some really refreshing soda. My favourite is the basil, mint and cucumber. I tried the jelly tip sundae too. Overall, very satisfied with my meal.

Burger + soda + sundae = $23

My first time here and wanted to see what all the fuss was about and I soon realised rightfully so...Food Truck is the healthy version of fast food without the guilt and not to mention absolutely delicious. We had sliders, fish burger and the open bowl chicken burrito finishing with an Acai berry dessert. It was all amazing and can't wait to go again and try other dishes. Also really friendly customer service! Love the vibe of this place, can imagine it being awesome during summer too with their outdoor seating!

Yummy. Been there with friends a few times. The beet burger is so yummy :-) great to sit and have a yummy meal in the afternoon sun . A great spot and lovely staff.

This was my first experience eating here. I ordered the beetroot burger and it was good felt so healthy as well. We also had the fish and lamb burger and the hot dog also with spuds. I would say all thr burgers were tastey especially the fish burger however the hot dog were a bit interesting. The service was great though however the wait for the food was a bit long considering one dish came out first then had to wait a good 15min for the rest to come out. This restaurant is really a healthy alternative to fast food if thats what your looking for then definitely eat here!

I always have a good time at the Food Truck Garage. The food is fresh, delicious, and inventive. The beefroot burger is a regular fave, as is the burrito bowl - with delicious avo and chipotle mayo.... so tasty! I can never visit the Food Truck without leaving with a Froyo sundae - they're just so good, and an almost-guilt-free treat! This is the perfect spot for lunch in the sunshine.
Bo
Had the special beefroot burger and one of each of the loaded spud sides to share (spiced corn & chipotle was the best). Burgers are on the small side, and no one felt particularly full. Definitely need to order a side plus a bit if sharing. Around the table if lamb, beef, chicken and fish burgers - the fish was best. Easy paid parking in front of the restaurant, good place for a quick meal with friends.
I Love Food
I love the food truck garage! Such decent pricing and amazing healthy food that you can't find elsewhere in Auckland! Always very satisfied with my meals here.

Came for lunch when the food truck was doing some competition thing with the white lady - healthy alternative vs classic burgers etc. Ordered the sirloin steak burger - it was very average. Lacked flavour and seasoning. I like my steak rare and this was on the blue side, stone cold, and seemed to be cut with the grain so difficult to bite and very chewy. Not much meat either. I ordered some fries off the white lady menu. These weren't ready so the food truck offered some vegetable alternative. $6 for sticks of raw carrot, celery, beans and asparagus with an avocado cream dip of some sort. I really wasn't impressed (seemed to be a very unimaginative healthy alternative and ridiculously priced for some raw veges). Bill came to $57 including a couple of soft drinks and side of sliders. Didn't finish most of the meal, we headed over to ugly bagels next door after as we were still hungry. Probably wouldn't return.

So I came here for the Food Truck vs The White Lady event. I ordered a Beefroot burger and also Turkey Breast sliders to share. I felt the sliders were lacking in the sense I was expecting it to have a stronger taste of turkey but it leaned more towards the sweet side due to something that looked like raisins. It didn't taste bad, just not my cup of tea. Now the Beefroot burger was more down my alley. I'm not a huge fan of beetroot but it definitely helped here to keep the beef pattie moist and tender. The salad within the burger was fresh and the bun was soft. All together, a really nice burger with a more healthy feel to it. Pricing was reasonable. The waitress that served us was friendly and always had a smile on her face!

First time I came here was around 2 years ago when they had a different owner and a different menu with sliders and hotdogs. I came again with a group of friends tonight because Weirdough and Tuck was closed, which was our first option. We knew one of our friends didn't like this place after switching to the new owner but it was really our only option.

The lamb burger I got was decent - I quite liked it! But I wouldn't come back just to eat it. I really didn't like the Spuds; there was hardly any flavour so everyone had to add a lot salt and pepper, which is something we've never done.

Saw a lot of the sundaes being ordered and they looked quite nice, but we didn't try those. Finally, the service was alright....most of the staff had poker faces and didn't seem very friendly.

Overall, I'd say the burgers are worth a try but this place wouldn't be one of the first options of places I'd recommend.

NOTE: This review was from March 2015, so their menu may have changed

I had been dying to go here, after seeing all of the yummy looking pictures on Instagram! I love the idea that this is a healthy fast food place! It's located in City Woks Depot, which is where there are a few other well know food places, like Best Ugly Bagels (which i'm still yet to try) and Odettes (which I love). All of the stores in this area are modern looking. I like the atmosphere of it all.
When we first came here, this place was so busy! We had a look at their menu, and immediately sat down. You had to go to the counter to order, so we got a table first. The food came out surprisingly quick! I had the burger bowl salad and it was huge! It consisted of carrot, beetroot, spinach, cucumber and tomato salsa, red quinoa, avocado, flax seeds, red sauerkraut, and i had my dressing on the side. You could have a choice of either:
-a beetburger
-veggie pattie
-spicy chicken
I had the chicken and it was delicious! It was only $16 too!
My Mum and Dad both got the spicy chicken burger for $12, It was made from a spelt flour bun, with coleslaw. My brother wasn't hungry so he just had one prawn taco, which looked nice. My Dad and brother were meant to get passionfruit froyo shakes, but the machine broke. They offered us 4 froyo vouchers (which is worth more), but we don't live in Auckland, so we got our money back.

Overall I really enjoyed my meal. This place has a nice retro look to it. It was obviously set like a garage, and had old school stools for seats, old fashion tissue holders, and even served the salads on plates that my dad has from way back! The service was average in terms of waitressing, but the food came fast. Hence fast food but healthy! My family isn't a fan of healthy food like i am, but i think this converted them! A great place for burgers, tacos, wraps and salads in a healthy way!

P.S I also came here in July when they were doing the Jelly tip July special. My friend and i were dying to try it! So we shared one between us. It was nice, but not as special as i thought. It was plain froyo with a raspberry sauce, and dark chocolate chunks.

great fresh fast food! one of a kind ! hats off to making healthy food tasty and making it look even more attractive! The Beefroot burger sure is one to try! well done

Beefroot burger kicks some serious ass! So packed and loaded with freshness and goodness for days! Great concept and love the staff! Would go back here at a drop of a dime #g1

I'm all for healthy alternatives and thats why after watching The Food Truck on TV I was super excited to come here; however, after trying the food I'm really unsure about this place... I guess I was just expecting a bit more flavoursome food but then again it might just be what I ordered (which was a redergize bowl w/ salmon salad). I think I will need to come back to have a second opinion - the food just seemed to me, maybe a little over simple...

I've been here a couple of times. The first time was over a year ago and they had a different menu which has sliders, hotdogs and chicken wings. That was great and we enjoyed that food experience.

I've been back a couple of times with workmates for lunch since and I don't think it's as good as the first time I went there.

The menu has changed which is fine but I ordered a chicken bowl with rice before and they got our order wrong and it was so bland. My workmates said the same thing and we left a bit disappointed.

I decided to give it another go so I went last weekend with a big group. I got the pulled pork burrito bowl. When it came out, it wasn't what I expected it to be. Everything was spread out on a plate and it was hard to eat at first. There was so much pulled pork compared to the rest of the components of the dish. The pulled pork was tasty but the rest was average. If it wasn't for the sauce on the side, this wouldn't have been that interesting. I wish I ordered something else since the burrito bowl was $18 and I found it average.

Some of the group ordered the sundaes and they looked amazing.

I wish this place was as good as the first time I went but I have yet to be convinced it has gotten better.

Usually being a waterfront dweller, a group brunch was the ideal motivation to check out the City Works Depot precinct - I was not disappointed. With plenty on parking (almost unheard of in the inner city), the Food Truck Garage was easily located on the top level. Very industrial chic interior, very on brand with the garage feel. The only downer I'd say is that they've followed that trend for vintage wooden school seats and as a tall girl that does tend to deter me from lingering for for extra drinks and coffees. I however understand the aesthetic appeal.
The food - in one word, amazing. I started off the meal with the mint, pear and kale smoothie. This was divine, with a taste similar to a mojito. I had the pulled pork taco for a main - also delicious - but the star of the meal had to be the Spiced Corn loaded spuds. I ordered these with bacon and it was a hot party in my mouth. A friend ordered the house special beefroot burger and this looked amazing too. Almost the entire group ordered the Jelly Tip sundae, a healthier reboot of the classic kiwi fav. The tang of the raspberry chia jelly was perfectly offset by the slight bitterness of the dark chocolate and the sweetness of the probiotic vanilla yoghurt. It was the perfect way to end the meal.
Service was pretty good. I was part of a party of sixteen and the kitchen coped with it admirably; our dishes came out in a very timely manner. There were a couple of blips with missing and delayed meals but the waitress also noticed and rectified them as quickly as she could - issues like this are somewhat expected when dining in large groups and her response was exactly the right way to deal with such scenarios. I'm definitely keen to return and sample more of the delicious menu, although probably in a smaller group next time.

Healthy and delicious defines the food truck. Fantastic for day or night dining, the food truck is tucked away in the city works depot but is always busy as ever. Indoor or outdoor it's such a friendly and casual atmosphere to be in.

All of the things I have tried on the menu are insanely yummy, my personal favourite is the redergise salad or the fish tacos!

It's so affordable and this does justice to the the serving sizes which are awesome.

One of my top Auckland picks!

This place is a great alternative if you're looking for a 'healthier' version of fast food. Good range of food choices, that have more of a creative substance, compared to your average fast food offerings 👍🍔

The menu was prepared by chef Bryan McGruer. We ordered beefroot burger and flat top dog. Beef and beetroot patty with the special sauce taste real good. The bratwurst has the right amount of spice in it. As a side dish we got spuds with spiced corn, might need some more sauce on it. Overall its a very health trendy spot with good food.

We been here a couple times before a year ago and had positive experience. However this time is a total disappointment. When we went in the waiter straight away said that there is a group of 17 kids and our food will tske a while to arrive. That was fine. The restaurant was almost empty except a group of kids outside. Surely they can handle the kids table?

The service was very average..no personality no smiles nothing. We dont feel welcomed? They ran out of baked potatoes at 530pm. Seriously? On a saturday evening?

We ordered the prawn taco , pork taco and beet burger. The food was again disappointing. I felt like michael`s food philosophy is lost. I dont see his tv character here at all. The prawn was overcooked and cold. The pork was average. The jalapenos in the burger tasted like canned ones. The patty didnt feel like there was much beef in there

Overall we were very annoyed that we paid to go there , wasted our calories and paid $4 parking. We will not be back. There are many new restaurants popping up in akl everyday hungrier for our money.
My favorite eat in Auckland! Seriously crave this as I don't live in Auckland! Had the prawn taco which was absolutely delish! As well as the Acai Berry sunday which I didn't realize would be so yummy! Can't wait to come back and try the Jelly tip sunday!
Love the accommodating staff, the healthy concept, the decor and the very short wait!
Will be back asap!
FoodLoco
Its been a while since I have been here.. I tried their hot dogs and burger pretty good and considering they are healthy too they oven baked potato chippies are yum!

I came here for lunch today and I am SO pleased that I did! It's been a year or more since my last visit, and I will not be waiting that long before returning again.

I started with a green tea and raspberry lemonade, while my friend had a pear, kale, and something smoothie. For lunch I had the pulled pork burrito bowl, putting most of the ingredients in the tortilla but finishing off the last of them from the bowl. It was divine, even though I'm not usually an enormous fan of refried beans. My friend had the green chicken wrap and she said it was great. We couldn't go past jelly tip frozen yoghurt for dessert, the raspberry chia jelly was so delicious! Two very happy customers. I paid $31 which I consider to be good value.

The one thing I will say is that they could have done with another waiter, it took us a while to be able to get one to order our dessert - but it wasn't terribly long, just something we noted.

Visited the Food Truck Garage a few weeks ago, although it was extremely busy and took a bit of waiting before we got a table, the waiter who seated us apologised on behalf and was very friendly. I had the vegan toastadas - which were so delicious and my partner had the "beef root" burger. The burger itself was quite small and didn't really fill him up, but he did say it was very nice. Would happily come back.

If you're in the City Works Depot area you should definitely drop by and grab something to eat from the Food Truck Garage. They're meals are healthy and tasty. I wish it was closer to Queen St (because I would visit more often!), but the walk is really worth it. The prices are reasonable and they do make some great coffee (which is a bonus).
Georgia Forde
My first experience here and I absolutely loved it. It caters perfectly to all dietary requirements and the service was quick and attentive. The black bean dip was delicious as was the Asian noodle salad. Everything on the menu looked devine so I will definitely be back again!
Luisa Jamieson
Food was great! We got an assortment of vegetarian treats - highly recommend the noodle salad. Definitely keen to go back and try some more of the yummy looking things on the menu.

For 7 months I longed to come to this place. Heard and read several (several) good reviews and said to myself "well, just gotta take that". Came on Sunday, payed the parking, walk in and instead of a good evening the lady says "the kitchen will close in 5 minutes", ok, f in courtesy and service but good to know i don't have much time. Not familiar with the menu, tried to play safe and went to the burger, my wife improvised and went with "ceviche". I don't know where the chef studied but that was not a ceviche. Take that plate to a Peruvian and he'll throw it into the garbage. The burger had beetroot... In the pattie itself. Didn't love it but you have to have some "basic/dull/boring" menu as a safe net. After finishing my burger a group of people got into the place an ordered. Wasn't the kitchen to be closed in 5 minutes? I had to rush to order and then the other group ordered as if nothing happened??? Not cool... I'll never come back to this place, the food was not great, the service was not great, the parking was chargeable (even though it was almost empty, it's not their fault but it sums up to the overall experience).
The Foodtruck Garage is one of my fave places to get a healthy delicious meal! Their menu is constantly changing, and everything on the menu is healthy and guilt-free! When I visited I also had a fro-yo which was soooo good. If I lived closer I would definitely visit more often.
Mel Jacka
I LOVE this place. If I could marry it I would.Everything is so super fresh and tasty and I feel like everything I eat isn't naughty....including the amazingly delicious highly addictive Jelly Tip Sundaes....you have been warned!!
Hanseul Nam
Fresh and leaves you feeling clean and energised after! Yum 💕 great service and also love the free goody card rewards touch, too. Food was beautifully presented and settings are nice 😀

The perfect place to come for healthy, delicious fast food. I ordered the McVeggie burger, and asked for a sauce that was dairy free, and the staff were very accommodating. Once I was seated my food came out within two minutes! The burger was one of the best veggie burgers I've had and the falafel and cauliflower patty was a nice change to the usual go to veggie patties that most eateries use. Only thing that I'd change would be the sloppiness of the burger. You might need a lot of napkins ;)
Overall, great atmosphere and great food. Will definitely be back to try more!

It is often difficult to find places in Auckland that provide a large variety of healthier options to choose from. The food truck garage is the perfect place to come if you want something delicious but much healthier than your normal fast food. I had the beefroot burger, broccoli salad and pink soda which were all tasty and reasonably priced. Would definitely return.
Andre Martin
My friend and I went for dinner last friday. The place was really busy. We need to wait for us to be sitted, didn't take that long. It was worth to wait. We really enjoy the food not really on the drinks. My friend had a Chicken burger and I had a Redergize Salad, thats the best salad that I ever tasted so far. All the staffs are very friendly and nice despite the busy service in a restaurant. And what catched to my attention was an Asian chef who had a beautiful smile, she looks very pleasants regardless of the busy service. Hope to see her again when we come back. I'm definetely coming back again, before we leave Auckland. More power Food Truck.

Ever since I saw the food truck on the TV, I've always wanted to give it a try. I thought the way they have summer and winter menus is so genius! It really draws someone who can get bored of the same type of food easily in. The winter burger menu was a delightful surprise and I had so much trouble picking which one I wanted to try. Loved both the turkey and the classic beef pattie and beetroot! They burger bun were fresh and puffy and the patties were scrumptious and huge! Great choice for lunch!
Chrissy Gabriels
Visited The Food Truck Garage for a sweet afternoon treat. Ordered the Jelly Tip Sundae which is actually a healthy option! Vanilla bean frozen yogurt with a raspberry chia jelly and the chocolate on top is dark I believe they use coconut oil to make it go hard. The ginger lemon and honey tea i had to follow with was so delicious in a wet miserable afternoon. So many tasty delights on the menu I'm looking forward to going back and trying.
Jaspreet Singh
Very nice different atmosphere and menu. They are trying to promote healthy and tasty food been there twice very relaxed and casual place nice service
Brittany Montana
The food at food truck is tasty, and reasonably priced. For me it's a bit light for a dinner, however perfect if your looking for a healthy lunch. The salad bowls are delicious, and extremely generous in portion. The food can take a while to come, so it's definitely not the place if your looking for a quick-stop, however in their defence they are always packed so this contributes to the delay I'm sure.
P L
The food tastes good and prices are reasonable. Drinks have not disappointed either. The wait time is ok. Food wise I have had burgers and salads here and I would recommend the burgers. They add to the menu over time so something new for myself next time I think.
Andrea
Their bowls look good with such generous portions. I always get the bowls!

On my first visit I tried the Redergize Bowl, it was yum but the chicken was a little dry. I also had their lime & soda water which didn't taste very nice or refreshing at all. My friend had ordered a tea for both of us too, but the waiter completely forgot about it and we waited for at least 15-20 minutes. I had to go up to the register to remind him & he also only brought one tea cup, not two.

The second time I went there I tried their Burrito Bowl. It was delicious if you like spicy! Again, generous portions. I give this place a 3.5 because of it's food. Service is okay but not great.
Ceciline Thai
Loved this place! Quick service and great food at reasonable prices! Got the chickette burger which was slightly a bit too spicy but nonetheless still delicious. The potatoes were also so yummy especially the sauce! The best part was the sundaes😛
Dl Pwat
This place was amazing from start to finish! The menus were quite simple so easy to choose from although the drinks menu quite small. Absolutely delicious food full of flavour. The sundaes are a must! The service was helpful and always there when we needed it. Am definitely coming back and will happily reccomend to others!

Michael Van de Elzen wasn't joking when he said his goal was to open a restaurant with all healthy options. One look at the menu and one bite of your food will reaffirm that notion stands true.

Usually healthy food is associated with being a little bit 'bland', but the "Beefroot" burger (their most popular burger) was anything but that. I'm not a fan of either beetroot or gherkins, but as this is their signature burger, I thought I should see what all the fuss was about. And I was unexpectedly surprised with how impressed I was with not only how quickly it was ready and the presentation of the burger, but the amount of flavour and size of the burger too. Not to mention the freshest ingredients I've seen from almost any fast-food establishment in a while now.
I'll be back to try other options on the menu, but I was pleased that another restaurant lived up to its hype.

My only issue is that the prices are similar to Burger Fuel, and I'm not sure I would choose these over Burger Fuel's larger portions, which also include large fries and a drink for the same price of this burger alone. Let's be real here - a burger is a burger, and if you're buying one you most likely will be expecting a little extra for $14. Even after sympathizing with their ridiculous rent costs of being located in the heart of Auckland City.

Love The FTG! Pretty good service, awesome food with healthy and sustainable options - always so good to pop in here after a quick sesh at the gym. Affordable and they've got their atmosphere going for them 😊
Victoria
Trendy, fresh food. Didn't love the coffee but great concept and menu so makes up for the sup-par coffee. Love the location too and would visit again.

Food was fresh and delicious. Service was great. I loved the layout and atmosphere. Looked for a spoon to eat the last bit of tummy dressing on my salad and couldn't find one. There seemed to be only one person serving. Overall great and would thoroughly recommend :)

interesting Sunday lunch, you decide:
- no smoothies, no french fries, no toothpicks, no chopsticks available
- chef's munching on bagged kumara chips while cooking, putting up food with order dockets on top of the food
- waitress with huge white plastic nails uses her fingers to dig in some nuts added to sundae (guess no spoons either)
- food ok without love or passion today (glass noodles in bowl with very bitter edemame, beetroot burger with chewy patty)
won't return
FoodiePhysician
Came here with a bunch of friends. Casual setup, friendly service and was seated promptly. Seems like a cool place to hang out with friends for a quick bite and beers.

The Good:
Offers meaty/vegetarian/gluten free choices
Decently priced 12-18 for a meal
Good service

The Meh:
Limited range of beers
Kimchi - not the typical oriental pickled cabbage, was a bit meh with the use of kale.
Some of the side dishes seemed like a healthy fusion of south east asian, mexican and japanese but seemed a bit bland; expected something stronger in flavour.

3.5 Yums
Lazania K. Wihongi
The food was delightful, nice and light and the staff were very polite. definitely will eat here again on an next night away from kids.

Food was good though the servings are small. My teenage son had to have 2 mains and still didn't feel full. The menu is very hard to read even though I had my glasses on.
The staff were great. I would go back for a lite lunch but I don't think I will return for dinner.

My boyfriend and I met up for lunch here on Friday and didn't know what to expect with regards to healthy food! It was very busy however we didn't have to wait too long for a table. Our waiter was very nice and informative. Even though it was busy, the restaurant had a great atmosphere!

I ordered the prawn taco w/ chipotle, green beans, cos, especial and rocket yoghurt + a pink lemonade.
My boyfriend ordered the Sunriser Dog w/ pork frank, cabbage, spinach, avocado and awesome Mayo + a soda and lime.
Because we didn't know how big the portions were, we ordered a side of corn chips w/ avo and flaxseed guacamole.

The portions were well sized and much more filling than I expected. The prawn taco was amazing - had a bit of heat due to the coriander and chilli, however the yoghurt balanced out the heat. The hotdog was also amazing - it was a decent sized portion with a lot of filling in it. I got to try a bit and all the different flavour combinations worked together so well.

The food truck does a great take on many different types of dishes and I love that everything tastes so good and you don't feel guilty eating it, because it's got a lot of fresh veges and good produce.

I look forward to coming here again soon :)

Had initially been intrigued by this eatery's premise of healthy fast food, so decided to check it out, amidst all the hype.

And I'd say it does live up to its billing. The meals are balanced with plenty of vegetables. Moreover, the meat patties also contain lots of good stuff, such as 50 per cent beetroot inside the beef burger patty.

Moreover, the flavours are quite delicious too. So rest assured, you will definitely not be disappointed. For example, the beefroot (nope, no spelling error) burger is moist and tasty and really scrumptious. The side dishes, such as the pita bread chips and the baked fries are also big in terms of both health and flavour.

The serving sizes are also rather hearty and if you have a big appetite, they will fill you up nicely too.

#Challenge

The Food Truck Garage is located in Cityworks depot and has a fantastic menu with lots of healthy choices. The place is always buzzing and it has a great modern atmosphere. I love coming here in the week day to catch up with a friend without having to spend a lot of money.

My personal favourite is the burger bowl ($16.90) which has red quinoa, beetroot, carrot, baby spinach, fresh avocado, beet sauerkraut, flax seeds and a yoghurt dressing. I always order mine with the miso dressing because I try to avoid dairy. I have ordered it with the beefroot pattie and the vegetarian pattie and both are equally delicious.

The staff are really friendly and the food is always full of flavour. It is a fun and casual place to grab a guilt-free bite with friends.
Selina EverHungry Nihalani
Great place to go to for healthier options of fast-food. I had the burrito bowl. It was a generous serving on the whole. Didn't like the taste of the red sauce (guessing that is the sauce especial). But the chipotle yoghurt was very tasty, as was the guacamole. Nice to feel light even after a well portioned meal.

However, I was not impressed with their service. The servers are definitely friendly but were only attending to customers who were seated inside. We waited for 15 mins before one of us went inside to ask someone to take our order. Even tried waving like a maniac! to get their attention. It would be really nice if, from time to time, the servers could glance outside to see if any table requires anything.
Razelle Icaro
One of my go-to food places at the moment because it's so close to work! A bit pricey but worth it. The dishes are healthy and unique, the service is on point, one of my favourites at the moment.
Hannah Pearce
Always great fast service at foodtruck! Had the Rad Thai bowl and it was Devine, plenty of chicken and veges and was really fresh. Guac and corn chips are always on point and would definitely recommend the broc-o-lot as a side! The bun on the beefroot burger was a little dry and crumbly but was still a good burger over all. I was too full for desert but the ones I spied looked equally good! Great place for a relaxed and fast week night dinner
Georgia Dobbs
The Food Truck Garage has a good menu with mostly healthy options, which makes eating there even more enjoyable! It is a well set up and designed place, their homemade soda flavours are super good! Friendly staff, reasonable prices and super quick service! 'Fast food' done well. On my most recent trip had the asian/thai zoodle bowl (can't recall the real name) which was a tasteful blend of fresh ingredients including chicken, ginger, carrot, and zoodles! Definatley reccomend this dish if you want something light fresh and healthy
Jeremy Newson-Brown
Really happy. Wasn't sure what to eat for lunch so decided to grab a bit here and it was delicious. Plus a nice place to eat in the sun!! :)
Gentlepig
The froyo here is amazing! Perhaps not the way most reviews of the Food Truck Garage would start, but boy was I impressed. For an eatery that gained its fame via TV, I feel its toughest challenge is to live up to its hype - and it does. The service is cheerful, and the atmosphere is electric. If you've ever imagined what the food here is like by seeing it on TV, rest assured; its as good, if not better than you imagined.
Stango
Located in Cityworks Depot, the Food Truck Garage is part of quite a trendy and pricey area. Prices can be high if you are a student or on a budget. They're great when it comes to catering for specific dietary needs and they serve really creative, nutritious options. Their dishes are far from boring. I recently had the beefroot burger and would recommend this to meat eaters and even the biggest beetroot skeptics.
HJ
There's a lot of hype about this place! Love that it's all about healthier options. The burger I ordered was good and did taste healthier.. But I felt it was lacking something. Service was pretty good considering how busy this place is. Quirky modern decor which added a nice touch to the place! The food took awhile to come out for the three of us but again will really depend on how busy they are. Only been once so would be keen to try some other options they have to offer
Denise D'Sa
The Food Truck garage is a fun, casual place to eat and offers healthier options compared to your average burger joint.

The "beefroot" burger was tasty, although super messy to eat, and the prawn tacos were yummy too.

The staff are friendly and service is fast, overall a great place, plenty of parking is a bonus!

This is my first review I have written and felt I must due to the experience I had at the Food Truck Garage. Having worked in bars and restaurants for a number of years, including being a shift manager I can understand how some nights can be so busy that you cannot fully attend to your customers. Walking in to the restaurant my partner and I stood behind another couple who were seated, given menus and a bottle of water, I waited patiently while two groups paid for their meals, then, after standing there for some time staring at the staff, we were told we could sit where ever we wanted, so we sat ourselves and started to talk to each other, after a while it became obvious no one was coming with menus so I walked in front of the counter to grab menus. My partner and I had made our decision on what to eat by time we were visited by a waiter. I ordered the Spicy Chicken burger while my partner ordered the Salmon Noodle Bowl without spice. The burger was tasty; however the salmon noodle bowl had no flavour. My partner doesn’t like spice and so the waiter suggested a mustard sauce, but it was just bland. While we were eating a group started to crowed around us, at its peak we were surrounded by around a party of 8-10 people all standing over us, one gentleman was leaning on our table. One lady in the party was repetitively asking the group if they should move outside. I was relieved when a waitress appeared hoping she would move the group, but instead took their drink order. A lady within the group then asked the waitress if they could be moved, to which the waiter replied she could move them to the courtyard if they pleased. When I paid for the meal the staff asked how everything was, we were hesitant about commenting on the experience and when we did it wasn’t well received. In short, I won’t be going back.

Nice place friendly service the food is ok, my spicy chicken burger was dry I add it some guacamole witch I had with my corn chips and its was better.
The corn chips not that great lots of bits and pieces hard to use to dip in the guacamole.
But I must say the front of staff are very friendly just because of that I will go back.
Gianina Castro
Love everything about it.

The food is amazing. I love how the food is healthy, yet it tastes amazing. I hate beetroot and veggies and so I usually pick it out from my food. But this place got me to eat them, all of them. And I absolutely loved it.
Eden Howard
I have been here once, and I got the prawn soft shell tacos! They were amazing, flawless! My partner got a burger which looked delicious, and it must have been because he wouldn't let me have a bite. I got a house soda which was alright, but I probably wouldn't get another one if I went back. I would definitely return though

Despite having the words truck and garage in their name, this place truly is a breath of fresh air on the Auckland dining scene!

I love the healthy take on much loved burger and hot dog and wholeheartedly recommended the beefroot burger. The ingredients are fresh and the side salads full of flavour.

Some diners may find the menu a tad lightweight but as a person with a big appetite, I actually found it just right. The frozen yoghurt desserts may look bland and simple in appearance, but man does it taste good! Go for the 'works' and you won't be disappointed.

With a funky decor, hip friendly staff and yummy guilt free food, I hope this place stays around for a long time to come.
Ruthie
Had the burger bowl which was very fresh and light but the chicken breast was quite overcooked/dry/hard. The customer service could do with some work as the female worker wasn't rude but wasn't friendly or welcoming so could do with some work in that area.
House Of Eats
Average food - good flatwhite - but the long black was shocking! Yummy probiotic yogurt - im hoping with the seasonal food change it might be better next time round. Decor super cool retro/industrial fitout.

Winter menu is out!! You are missing out if you havent been here.Great food, great place and atmosphere. However the kids menu could have more options.

Had a nice dinner here on a Thursday night so wasn't too busy like it is in the weekend. I ordered the chicken burger which was really nice but wasn't a fan of the broccoli salad. The Sundaes were really good too!

Read update: Down the bottom

Really nice atmosphere, my vegetarian burger was okay. Wish I got a chicken one coz I think it would of been a lot better. Nice staff, would definitely go again for a meaty burger!
The milkshake was bloody DELICIOUS, it had ginger and that in it I've forgotten which one it was though. I would go there just for that!

UPDATE: 7/03/17
Came here for the second time and ordered their burrito bowl with added chicken and a side of the broccoli.
The chicken seemed a little bit strange to me, didn't trigger anything as to why at the time, I just remember thinking, "oh that's a bit fatty and spongy," when cutting through parts of it and continued eatting it. But apart from that both dishes were amazing, fulling and flavoursome and healthy as well.
When I got home later in the evening though, I felt hugely nauseous and actually got food poisoning in the end from what I assume was the chicken. Thinking back to the dish makes me feel sick and I don't think I will come back again.
Their BeefRoot burger was awesome n juicy ... We went by the reviews in Zomato and worth the penny ... Excellent service n attitude of staff as always in any NZ rest

I thought this could be too much to ask when I said I wanted a lunch meal that was fresh, healthy, filling .... and a reasonable price. The Food Truck is ideal! I choose the quinoa patties, served with fresh veges and a spicy sauce which added a nice touch. Service was pleasant!! Will be back for sure and Ill be bringing my mates!!

One of my absolute favourite places to eat!! Everything on the menu is fresh and exciting and a little out of the ordinary. My go-to is the vegetarian burger with a spicy coleslaw - Delish!
Jay
Fantastic. Decent prices, good atmosphere, great food, great service. Very attentive and happy waiting staff too. 10/10 will be coming back.

EDIT: Came back, review from 2015 still stands in 2018.

This is a great place for dinner.
Great friendly service from the guys!
Love the set up, plenty of seats both indoor and outdoor.
Great for small group or out on a date!
I had beef and beefroot burger...love it! Reasonably priced and definitely recommend this place to all.
It's a fancier version from your fast food chain.
Mayur Shetty
Amazing just amazing, excellent food, healthy, service from staff was awesome too. This place was a complete package, burgers on its o n wont be enough, so go for the extra side option.
Craig
Been here too many times haha but I have no reason not to go! The food is great, the service is great and the atmosphere is great. Only negative would have been the one time I got overcharged but I didn't even care because they deserve my "unknown tipping"
Acuario MI
Nice outdoor eating environment at work depot. We ordered spicy chick burger, sunrise sandwich beef burger and prawn roll. Burger is smaller than image and. I love the sandwich and berry yogurt sundae.

Service and set-up were great. Very friendly staff and lively decor. The menu was rather small and the portions were also very small. I ordered the beefroot burger which was good but not great. I like how they use fresh healthy ingredients but it did taste slightly too healthy for my liking. But then again that is the whole idea of this restaurant. I would go back for a health conscious meal!

Went here for lunch today with three other friends at around 12pm to try out their brand new menu. I had been to the Food Truck Garage before and was quite excited to see what more they had to offer as their burgers were actually really good, however all I can say is that I walked away extremely disappointed.

From our table, we had ordered the koftah bowl, the red thai bowl, the beetball bowl and Im not too sure what the last bowl was called but it came iwth free ranged chicken and corn chips on rice. Each dish was around $17 except for my beetball bowl which was $16. I had tried a little bit of each bowl and can say that the kofta one was probably my favourite as the kofta itself was delicious! however, for the two bowls that came with rice the proportions were just silly as three quarters of the meal was pretty much just..rice. The beetball bowl tasted like something I could have whipped up myself at home without effort; just 4 meatballs in tomato sauce on brown rice with some raw baby spinach on the side. This was highly disappointing as I expected something a lot more WOW considering the prices we were paying. We had also tried the chocolate probiotic yoghurt which was standard tasting once again.

I'm sorry Food Truck but it was not the most pleasant experience and it's unlikely I'll be returning anytime soon for their new overpriced menu.
Sarah
Lovely staff & great food!
Not a lot on the menu which made decision making super easy but tried the noodles and they were delicious!
Cannot fault anything.

10/10

Yummy yummy and yummy! This place is great menu is switched up the few times Iv been nice healthy options- great wine, great view such a nice spot for catch ups with friends def must try

This place is usually packed around dinner time so pays to go just before. We were seated within 15 minutes and the staff very friendly. I had the the burger and shared a side of tacos and slaw, beautifully complementary flavours then went down well with hopt.
Willow
Great food, atmosphere and service! Really love it here, have had a different meal each time I have come and am never disappointed. Had the pork and kimchi burger tonight which was absolutely delicious. Staff are friendly too which makes a huge difference to a night out. Will be back to try something new :)
ET
Seated for 15 min. Thought we had to order at till but when we approached the till we found the waiteress had just forgotten about us. Placed order. One burger, two tacos. Waited another 35 min. Tacos were small and very average. Burger was ok but shouldn't have taken that long to come out. The restaurant wasn't busy, there were only around four other occupied tables. This was our second time here and each time we have noticed that food takes ages to come out. Overpriced for the food and service received unfortunately. Won't be back.

Came for a quick bite tonight. Small sign says 'wait to be seated'. Abit of confusion here as many behind the counter taking payments etc but no obvious wait staff. Finally seated and brought really simple many. Love the fact the menu is simple. Still plenty of choice but not inundated with too much.
I had the 'jerk' in a salad rather than wrap. Jerk chicken on a bed of dressed salad greens and coleslaw on top of an avocado dressing with a mango salad. Very fresh and extremely filling. Partner devoured tge tacos. He was happy with the portions as was i. Looking forward to returning to try the burgers which looked amazing. Staff were very friendly and attentive.

Had dinner at food truck last night- they don't take bookings but of you're there before 6pm - it's all good.
A simple menu full of yummy sounding simple food. Lots of gluten free and vegetarian options.
Share plates are generous and delicious. Service brilliant, efficient and friendly.
Well priced and quick - try the frozen yoghurt OMG- delish!!!

One beautiful autumn day, a warmer day than today. The sky is clear deep blue, free of clouds and the sun is shining. A small banquet for two: lampeano sliders, baby papple dogs, vego burger. Yum! Food Truck Garage 90 Wellesley Street East, Auckland, NZ
Twintail
I went there for lunch and it was super crowded. I was told I'd have to wait 20-25 minutes, but it actually arrived in about 10 minutes.
The interior is stylish and nice, with good music, however I wasn't impressed with the taste of the chicken burger at all($14).
The free range chicken was too cooked and lacked juicy-ness, while the bread was crumbly and didn't have taste. I thought there would be some fresh vegetables inside, but really, there were just some avocado/cabbage sauce mushy thing underneath the chicken. The waiters were also so busy that they didn't serve the water until I pointed it out.
Overall, an overly priced, busy shop. Maybe the other foods on the menu would be nice.
WeiTing Ashley Shyu
fresh! very cool concept and great modern atmosphere. the flavours are light and different. don't know if i am a big fan though as the burgers were too "slaw" based for my liking and too herby. other items were great though (yum potatoes)!
Renor Kay
Good places and interior..........................
But I need more service. Very busy shop and staff so I don't know how to get a new one.
Tayla Shannon
I love love love the menu here! So good & the staff are really friendly here. Good pricing as well, will def be back again thank you :) :)

First time visitor and had the beefroot burger bowl, it was outta this world delicious and healthy. Enjoyed with a beer and great service - nothing to fault this popular eatery.
Kaushik Shekar
The food tastes great and the portion sizes are big. Like the ambience, the staff are great. We tried the chicken tacos, prawn tacos and the salad bowls. All the dishes we ordered were delicious.
Anna Wei
This place is on the "top 100 cheap eats." However, I was hugely disappointed as the portions were small for the price they were at. Have to give it to them though, as the interior was nice and the presentation of the food was quite good too :)
Candy Boy Food Journey
I had to change my rating from 2 to 4 due to a new head chef - my oh my you can notice the difference. We went twice in the last week and Wasabi pork burger was probably one of the best burgers I had in a long time. Highly recommend
Kitty Macleod
Sooooooo disappointing !!!! Cabbage wedge is literally a chuck of cabbage , would be nice if some cooking was done , friends said prawn taco was good but guacamole and chip was very stingy for very little ! Such a build up for not much , much prefer boy and bird to food truck :)
Gen Middlemiss
Only been here once & was hungover so don't think I appreciated the food as much as I could ???? but the spicy potato's side & caesar salad were both delicious, also the gelato for desert! Would definitely go back!!

Yum! Although I have lived really close to this place for nearly a year, it wasn't until last Saturday that I finally tried it. With Ugly Bagels next door, this place didn't get a look in. Well, I have been missing out! I got my order to take-away. I ordered the redergize salad with chicken and the chocolate milkshake. I am really impressed with the effort to incorporate so many healthy foods into the dishes. I don't believe in the term "super food", it's just a marketing tool, but I really felt eating that salad was doing me good! This place makes a real effort to create healthy food at an affordable price. My salad was delicious and kept me full all day. The chicken was very flavoursome. The salad had quinoa in it, ugh. Still not the biggest fan but I'm slowly warming to it. The chocolate shake was delicious and the incorporation of avocado and banana worked well. I felt like my lunch was packed with goodness! I would defiantly go back here, I would like to dine-in next time and check out their healthy burgers. The staff were cheerful and my order was ready in less than five minutes. The only problem is that I will now have to have an argument with myself when choosing whether to get a bagel or, to explore more of the fantastic menu at my new local.

Was here for dinner about 2 months ago, and was not disappointed. Although it is in town, it was quite easy to find parking (parking right outside, or plenty of street parking around).

The food came in big portions, looked really healthy and was worth trying. My favourite, is hands down the salmon sliders! I had some, and wanted some more, and cannot wait to go back for more!
Food Adventures With AnnaJ
Went to the Food Truck Garage with a big group, told them we were happy to wait and they called us in about an hour, which was a lot faster than expected on a Saturday. Waitress was knowledgeable and helpful and got round our orders swiftly which was great as we were all a bit hungry.
I started with a pimms cocktail, which was super tasty and very well priced for a cocktail in the city. we shared the guacamole and corn chips, honestly the best guac of my life!! could have eaten just a bowl of that for dinner!!!
I ordered the prawn taco, deliciously cooked prawns which was randomly paired with green beans - a lot better of a combo than i had expected. it also had a yummy dressing. I also had the Sunriser dog which had such a yum combo of veges and dressing but the frank was barely heated through and bland which was disappointing.
All in all a good range, will be coming again to try the chicken burger which was raved about by my friends!

i love the interior design in this place and the attention to details. food is yummy and healthy. nice place. down side is there is no free parking.

I hadn't been here for a while. But we went on a quiet and stinking hot early January evening and were rewarded with a lovely bench outside in the shade. Once we'd warmed the (young and new) waitress up, she was wonderful.

I can't deny that I missed the "chips' - mainly because I LOVED the baked beetroot and kumara that were part of the mix. Not that it did me any harm to have less carbs.

We shared a soft taco with prawns & chipotle sauce, which melted in our mouths, and an Asian salad which was subtle and refreshing. Can't remember which dog we elected for in the end, I just know I loved every mouthful.

Mr Van de Elzen certainly knows his flavours, and his dedication to healthy eating is admirable. He certainly makes it painless! Reckon I'll be back within the week. True story.
EATINGUPAKL On Instagram
Decided I had to try this place after hearing so many good things about it . Ordered one of their burgers and the kumara chips, I enjoyed the burger but for $12 I cannot justify paying that again for a single burger. Also the kumara chips were slightly burnt. Service was excellent, the staff was super friendly. Would recommend if you are looking for healthier options and not too worried about paying extra.
Two Dark Coffees
Having owned Micheal Van de Elzen's Food Truck Cookbook, it was only a matter of time until I tried out how his food was actually meant to taste.

And there is no debating that he can rustle up his chicken burger faster and better than I can, but he also charges a lot more for his chicken burger than I do.

The food was full of flavour and for a burger not overly heavy. The recommended cider was summery and sweet, which went down a treat.

The place itself was busy but still had a decent amount of seating options available.

The staff were attentive and service overall was pretty good. Waiting time wasn't very long which always makes a big difference I think.

The only thing I can really say I didn't like about this place was the prices. Compared to other establishments, this place knocks you back a bit if you have a full on feed.

That being said, the quality of the ingredients is evident in the taste of each bite.
Ed Porter
Very friendly service but the burger didn't feature anywhere enough meat and fell apart very early on as the buns are too crumbly. And $5.50 was a joke of a price for the paltry portion of kumara chips. So despite that friendly service and nice atmosphere there'll be no chance of a return visit. Sorry!

Came here twice in a month. First time I had a beetroot salad. Portion was really big, literally a mountain. I couldn't finish, and had to bag it. Funny that I couldn't finish a salad. Second time round I thought I had to go for burger.. So I went for the classic buffalo beefroot burger. Surprisingly, it didn't quite meet my expectations. Maybe I was comparing it with other burger joints and food truck is meant to be the healthier choice. The bun was just a little too grainy for my liking and soft. There was also too much juice in my burger and it made the whole thing messy and a bit soggy. I'm also not a big fan of capsicum, yet alone being in a burger. Overall it was good, but I guess just not a favourite of mine. Service was no doubt good, coffee was amazing (they use eight thirty blends) and the store deco is really fancy. Definitely a good place to get a good hearty meal and have a good time.

The place was nice. We managed to find seats easily. The staff were helpful and friendly. Although the burger was nice, it seemed small...The prices were okay.

Food 4/5
Good healthy food, something for everyone here, small portions, so if you have a shall we say 'healthy' appetite then order BIG. Great if there are varied dietary preferences within the dining group.
Flavours a good for such healthy food :)

Service 3/5

Ambience 4/5
Fun, noisy and casual a great downtown experience.
Made to feel like we had to leave the moment meal was done though.

Price 4/5
Affordable.
Sananda Chatterjee
really enjoy the food here - always fresh and light. Change in menu has been good but the choices have diminished. Kumara Chips are pretty ace!! I have been here more 3/4 times now - always love it!
Kerrod Don
The decor of the place was nice and had a relaxed feel which was nice. The staff were friendly.

The burger I had was the Swiss beefroot which was good but nothing amazing. I also had the choc-o-lot shake which was quite tasty as well. Over all good experience but didn't really stand out in comparison to other burger places I have been.
Wilson Chau
I heard this place was legendary and have been dying to check it out the next time I was in Auckland. Finally did and it was a satisfying experience though not as amazing as a lot of friends made it out to be. I had the Beefroot burger, beetroot beef patty with a generous serving of melted cheese. It was pretty good, not the best burger I've had, but the sides didn't live up to the burger. The kumara chips/wedges were a bit burnt though edible (saved by the dipping sauce). So overall I wasn't blown away by my first visit to the Food Truck, but it is worth checking out and I hear the menu changes - I will try the shared plates next time.
Karen Brooks
I loved the food truck garage atmosphere! The staff were friendly and helpful - But the food - The beetroot dip is amazing and I loved the buffalo beetroot burger - cannot wait to go back!
Shharukh Issani (Sharkx)
Amazing food , really lovely time there so far no other winter night snack could satisfy the need in my tummy . although needs improvement in service but even with being really busy the food was made with proper attention . :-) a must try out
Bigfatdada
Came here with the family and was a little disappointed...I had heard so much about the place over the past year or so. Three tiny chicken sliders for $14...mmmm not a good start-seriously that is way overpriced . Then the petite potato wedges, which were ...petite., possibly one potato? It tasted good but we expected a decent side portion. The beef root burger was very tasty and we wish we ordered 3 of these. Chilli chicken was dry, albeit a hint of Harissa. Service was fine with a 20min wait for our order. I don't mind that for fresh food.
Nazah Ali
Went here for a birthday lunch with about 15 friends, wouldn't recommend for a big group at a busy time, the drinks took ageees to be served let alone the meal which took about an hour from when we arrived, worst of all the food was only average :(
Laura Hunt
The first time I ever came to the food truck I wasn't blown away. However I have been back multiple times, through different menu changes and I had to edit my review to reflect my view on it now.

I love this place. The food is absolutely delicious, and not to mention guilt free. Now I'm not going to lie, this is for people who do enjoy eating healthily. You're definitely not going to order a burger and receive your usual big dirty juicy meal... But that's not what the food truck is about.

It's an awesome place if you want to go out without compromising on eating healthy :)
J.T547
I have been to the Food Truck Garage several times and it has always been a good experience. The food is delicious, light and fresh. They have recently changed their menu which is fantastic, but slightly less variety. The chickette sliders and the beetroot and poached chicken salad is a must. However, service here is inconsistent, I have had times where it has been great, however on the last visit, our two waitresses were a bit off the mark and seemed frazzled and rushed. It also took a very long time for our drinks to come out, we had to ask three times for a takeaway container and a dessert menu. Overall, this place is great and I would recommend it for a quick, fresh lunch or dinner
Lucy Kelly
My friend and I were very disappointed with the whole experience. We were initially sat at a table and within two minutes another waiter came over to us and said "I have to be a bitch here and ask you to move". We were then left to wait in the serving area until we were shown some bar seats in the corner and told as soon as other seats were available then we would be sat. We saw 3 other groups get tables before we finally asked to be seated. We waited on the bar stools and the waitress told us they did not have any burger buns, cauliflower, buffalo beef ingredients and two drinks. But that we could get a wrap at "no extra cost". The food took ages and came at all different times which meant we ended up sharing our main because otherwise my friend would be left hungry. The meat was dry and the food presented messy. Other tables were offered food for free to keep them happy despite the appalling service, yet we were offered nothing. Absolutely disappointing. Although the waitress noted they were having a "mare of a night" she was also seen on her cellphone texting and making calls, presumably to the owner but always best to do this outside of the customers eye. All in all we will definitely not be back, nor will we be recommending it. Such a shame. No burger buns?!?!
Eli A
Disappointed!!! The first word that came to mind when I tasted the food. I have eaten here a few times thinking to try different things before I made up my mind, but was disaapointed each time. Everything I tried was under-seasoned, lacking in flavour. It might be healthy and organic, but for me, if it doesnt have flavour it's not something I want to eat and pay for. This is just my opinion though, so if you like milder flavours, it might be something for you. I usually prefer big flavours and spicy food, so not to my taste.
Fleur Peps
Really enjoyed it!

LOVED: the prawn tacos and my drink which was a mint and cucumber soda. Really good. well priced too. I ended up getting a glass of wine too which was an amazing pinot gris and well priced.

DID NOT LOVE: the service is really slow and you constantly have to flag a waiter down to get another drink or to order food. They never come back and check on you to see how your meal is going. They are all too busy. People left standing outside waiting to be seated for quite a while - with plenty of empty tables waiting.

If they improved their service slightly I think their reviews would improve greatly. the food is lovely.
Jan Hare
6 of us waited at the entrance ( as the sign says "wait here to be seated") while 2 separate wait staff walked passed us 3 times. Eventually I walked in and a guy behind the counter looked up and asked if I was ok?
We were seated and as time lapsed, had to ask for the order to be taken. The food arrived which by this time quite frankly I just wanted to leave. The food was as disappointing as the service.
IAndEJohannisson
What a disappointment!

Went with 3 friends, for a bite and a beer, but never again.
Grumpy staff, food was bland and totally non inspiring, plus the prices were ridiculously high for what you got.
Jason De Voogd
I've been to the food truck garage a few times now after a recommendation from a friend, each time the hostess was friendly and provided recommendations. Once the food arrived it was amazing, not only is it "fast" to the table, I found the portion size right for the price charged. I've had the beetlovers Burger, Goat Sliders & the Kale Caesar as a Wrap on my visits, I definitely will be heading back again - 2 thumbs up
Gary
Having read all the hype about this place I simply had to visit. Particularly after enjoying Michael's food at Molten in Mt Eden.

What a let down. I ordered three small dishes and was advised they would be "staggered". My first dish arrived by itself (the prawn tacos) surely you could use a better quality of prawn, instead they used the cheap and nasty small ones that simply fell out the other end. Why not just one high quality banana prawn, or two top notch prawns.

Then the remaining two dishes and the side salad arrived at the same time. The salmon was tasteless. Previous comments have complained the food to be so salty, now they have gone in the opposite direction. I have never had such flavourless salmon in a restaurant.

The puppy dogs were okay, I had the first one complete and the flavours were nice, the second one I just ate the dog, it was salty and bland, there are better bangers available from foodtown.

The wait staff were caring and attentive, the maître 'd asked if I wished her to advise the chef of my disappointment, however with full view of the kitchen I'd doubt there was a chef amongst them, it looked like a MacDonald's kitchen with kids everywhere.

All being said a credit to Michael for running a sleek business, no executive chef salaries here. No beer or wine stock to worry about, there was none, just two beers or two wines.

Simply pray that this is not the way dining is heading in New Zealand. It's a flash takeaways for the health conscious amongst us.
Emma W
I've dined here twice and loved it both times. We were seated immediately and didn't wait too long for food.

If you don't mind being squished in to a busy, noisy place and are prepared to try some interesting food combinations then I highly recommend it.
Sue
I've been here twice now and this place is always buzzing. It ticks all the boxes for healthy choice food. It is how I cook and eat at home. The menus change as well which is good because it is a small menu, but the staples and favourites remain the same. I like the way the chips are served in aluminium dishes.

Well done Food Truck!!
Ian Robertson
Just back from 3rd visit to Food Truck and won't bother going again. First time was closed-no reason but we got the hours from the wall and returned a few weeks later for brunch. Damn, closed again. Hours on the wall are wrong but the hours are listed on website. Arrived this time at 3:00pm and waitress went to kitchen; put up the "Kitchen Closed" sign and suggested we try nibbles menu. Parking is $5 each time and still no food. I'd rather support somewhere that cares.
Lily
We were expecting so much when we went here. Our family of 5 (2 adults, 2 teens & child) thought the portion sizes were quite small. When we were ordering, some of the options on the menu weren't available, which was a shame as we wanted to try as many dishes as possible. The food was fresh & tasty but was just too small. Perhaps a little over rated? Unfortunately we won't be rushing back anytime soon.
Brian Choi
Just back from dinner tonight with my daughter.
Service slack, had to wave down a waitress to take our order.
A long wait for our drinks to arrive when they did (a beetroot & cranberry soda, and my so called sweet Passion fruit soda, both tasteless. No flavour at all, very watered down taste of sparkling water.
The food however very tasty, healthy and fresh.
The Goat sliders, meat lean, (minced), & fish burger, good flavours.
Service & Drinks let this place down.
If you describe a drink as Sweet Passion fruit, one expects to TASTE Sweet Passion fruit!!
Very misleading. We noticed the table of two next to us, returned one of their soda drinks in exchange for a juice. Won't be back a shame as I have followed the Food Truck series on T.V., & Family Recipes, in anticipation of a good experience.
Olivia Burden
Three words - quick, cheap, delicious! Need I say more! Love this place so much I went twice in one week when I discovered it :) I always take people from out of town for the experience too which is always a treat.
I highly recommend the Beefroot Burger and the Baked Chips!
Diane W.
Went with a friend for lunch today. They have a new menu that they were asking for feedback on. I had the chipotle shrimp tacos and my friend had the quinoa salad. Both were excellent. The frozen yoghurt with toppings was good too. I love the fact that this food is honest, healthy food that tastes like what you were hoping for, and it's very affordable.
The service was quick, despite the crowd, and the waitress was friendly and helpful. A good experience, and I will definitely go back.
James
My partner and I went to FTG on Saturday, and were quite disappointed - it certainly didn't live up to the hype.

A few qualms:

1) The wait.

The wait was long, with an awkward 'take your name and we'll call it out' system. I'm sure this works beautifully when there aren't too many people, but on a busy weekend we watched haplessly as groups who had come in after us were let in before us, including several twosomes. When we were the only ones left in the courtyard after an hours wait, we asked a waitress and were shown to our seats, and were unapologetically told there had been a mess-up with the order they let people in.

2) Price Parity

This was the second biggest let down.
For what we got, we were both left feeling like we could have made the same thing at home, for much cheaper. Their cheer dogs, for example, could essentially be recreated with some mesclun from Pak n' Save and some sausages from Westmere Butchers.

The reason I haven't given this restaurant a lower rating is that the ambience was good, with a lively buzz and service while we were waiting for a table was prompt and attentive. However, with so many choices on where to eat in Auckland, I won't be recommending Food Truck Garage any time soon.
Nicole Astrella
I see where they were going with the idea of healthy food. I selected the vegetarian burger option and was disgusted by a sloppy pumpkin fritter that lacked flavour and was an awkward texture. The ingredients were fresh (except the bun that tasted a few days past its prime) The cola was not nice and had a funny after-taste. I don't think the restaurant lived up to my expectations but I applaud them for making healthier alternatives.
Steph
Went for dinner on a Tuesday evening. Very busy for a week night which is testament to how beautiful the food is. The portion sizes are perfect amongst us 3 we had the beef root burger, chicken burger, Paua dog and prawn tacos. Every single item was beautifully fresh and so tasty. We were in and out within about 45 minutes, it's not a restaurant you sit around for hours but that is just what we were wanting. There was a constant stream of people coming and tables were turned quickly. Staff were lovely.
Kristy Swain
The sausage in my hot dog was about the size of my finger, our chips were given to the table next to us in error, they poured the wrong size beer, and were standoffish when we returned too late for our table after putting our name on the waiting list (annoying considering they wouldn't give us a time frame so we had to guess when the table was ready).
Sunil Sima
Just went to the Food Truck Garage... That food is over rated and over salted!!! I mean come on I thought it was all about healthy eating!!! The 13 spice chicken tenders are basically Coat 'n' cook chicken that you get from the supermarket.... Not impressed!!!
The redeeming feature would have to be the staff who were fantastic and very helpful.
Vivienne
Came here for brunch at 11 am last Sunday. Interesting food, everyone loved the wedges. Just one item which didn't quite gel - the ginger drink - it wasn't a pleasant taste, more like bitter grapefruit. Other than that, excellent service, great atmosphere.
Lillian
Came here for lunch just after 11am on a weekend and noticed it got a lot busy after that so we were lucky.
Loved the food and the environment. Two of us ordered a hot dog each, had one taco each and shared the 13 spice chicken arm. All were lovely, my paua dog didnt tasted too paua - but I understand it is actually paua & pork.
Can't wait to go back!

Loved this place!

Went for dinner with two friends. I had the Rawrider
salad and the oven baked chips. The salad was interesting and had new vegs that I had to ask the waiter what it was.... which is a first for me...

Sampled the chicken arms (great not too oily) and the slaw (nice dressing)

Happy with the portion sizes and I will be back to enjoy the outside seating area in summer.

Yet another fabulous, funky and delicious place to dine in Auckland. Busy and bustling but not forgotten as the service is immaculate. Food is fresh, healthy and scrumptious. The 'Chickette' burger is great, as is the 'Pappy' Dog. Loved the baked chips and coleslaw. All reasonably priced too!
Jackie
Food was good but took 25 minutes to get a hot dog and that's on a day that wasn't busy. Also the website didn't state the kitchen is closed between 3 - 5.15pm on a Sunday therefore menu was limited to hot dogs and drinks.
Belinda
What a beautiful lunch today in the sun! Ordered the beef root burger and chips, friends had the wrap and a couple of hot dogs, feedback was very good, everyone commented they were full, without the takeaway grease that usually sits in your stomach from normal takeaways!
Wonderfully delicious fresh food, the cola was so refreshing, along with friendly efficient service, great job, about time the city had something unique and so good, we will be back.

Went yesterday and got the 13 spice chicken arms and baked potato 'fries'. The chicken was a bit dry but ok. However the fries were cold! We had ordered to take away, and we were just out of the parking when I tried one, and couldn't be bothered going back to complain. Needless to say, we were very unimpressed. Great staff, though!

Edit 5th Oct 2013 - I was kindly invited back by the restaurant manager Chris last week. Glad I went back as I had a completely different experience this time round. The prawn tacos were amazing! It had very few ingredients but was very fresh & tasty. I'd highly recommend the lemon & ginger drink as well - very light, refreshing and not too sweet. Will gladly go back again. Thanks again to the lovely staff!

I hadn't watched the TV show but a friend recommended this place so had to check it out. Despite being very busy, they were very accommodating and went out of their way to try and find us good seating (group of 7 people on a busy weekend night). The food was delicious and was ready fairly quickly. It was so fresh and full of flavour. Our waiter had a great sense of humour and the whole place felt very easy going. The best part though was the prices. For this level of quality, I was amazed at how reasonably priced our food was. Will definitely be back. If I lived in town I would be a regular.

I went to try, as I am a big fan of the show on TV, and was looking for something takeaway for dinner which was a little different.
Got the Paua Dog as read good things about it, the baked chips and the lemon and the mint and honey fizzy drink.

Was a good dinner, and filled me up, flavours were amazing, and for $19 was a little bit more than a big combo at a takeaway fast food chain, but a whole heap more enjoyable and filling :)

Will be going back again for sure.

The food here is sublime. Prawn tacos were gorgeous. And the 'Leaf eater' salad was excellent. (had things like kale and many types of green leaves with pumpkin and cranberries and hazelnuts plus an awesome dressing). How can a salad taste so good?!

Only thing I didn't enjoy as much was the lentil dip (that came with the otherwise delicious pita crisps & hummus). We salted it up a lot, which definitely improved it.

Fun, energetic environment. It pays to arrive at 5 or 10 minutes before the hour to get a good seat at lunchtime, as the place is pumping.

We dropped into the Foodtruck after watching a movie at Sky Theatre, and what a great way to finish the night. Humming with people and a great atmosphere, we mulled over the varied menu while enjoying a wine and beer. The service was fast and efficient and very friendly. I had a spinkin burger and fries, and hubby had the beef burger. We were both very impressed, delicious, so much flavour and so different to all the other burger options out there. Can't wait for our next visit to try more things on the menu.

I have visited the Food Truck Garage twice now - both times the service was friendly and quick, the food delicious and the atmosphere vibrant, funky and happy. I recommend the experience to anyone - from those wanting to take a client out for a healthy bite to eat to busy parents taking children out for a treat. Well done to everyone for introducing this breath of fresh air to Auckland. Thank you.

Me and two of my hungry man friends came here for dinner on Saturday. The place was packed! But we were pleasantly surprised by the speed of service. Our food which consisted of (1x Spinkin burger, chicken and beef burger, fries and one-of-each drinks) were deliciously flavoursome and filling! The boys were somewhat apprehensive at the 'healthy' branding of the restaurant but just goes to show that healthy can be yummy too! My experience here was an excellent one, I will definitely be coming back until I try everything on the menu! The only downside to our evening was the lack of enthusiasm of our waiter, perhaps it was a long night, but the service was still cordial.

After watching The Food Truck Show it was my son's request in the school holidays to go to Auckland and have dinner at the Garage, a must!! What a great experience friendly staff, didn't have to wait long for meals even though they were full. We had the fish kebab, full of flavour and texture. The beef burger was delicious accompanied by the veggie fries. The ginger drink was good but the lemon was even better. Good on you Michael for getting across to kids that takeaway food can be healthy and taste great.

Can I say one thing healthy food combines with healthy living so why don't you make your garage smoke free!!! I felt sorry for the poor people sitting outside who had to put up with the inconsiderate 2 young ladies who chain smoked beside them while they ate their dinner. :-(

Went the first time and was not impressed but we were invited back by (manager?) Chris and were blown away with how good it was.

I had the special of the week- fish kebab- really tasty, fresh, could taste everything and had a good amount of yummy garlicy yogurt sauce- delicious.

Friend had the chicken hot dog- again it was really tasty and fresh, loved the brussel slaw and the salsa thing kept it all moist.

Drinks were yummy- I ordered the ginger one which was very tasty but ended up stealing my mates cola drink as it was my favourite.

Will definitely be back and thanks for the great customer service Chris! Nice to see a restaurant that listens to its customers :) thanks!

July 2013: We went for an early lunch today. The food absolutely met our expectations - fresh, tasty and guilt-free. Loved the pita bread with dips, the burgers were very tasty and the paua dog was great too. Lovely cola drink. Good size portions and value for money. Service was great as well! Will definitely be back.

Oct 2013: Although everything was superb like the last time I note that the size of the baked vegies has shrunk since visiting in July this year.

March 2014: The prices have gone up and the portions sizes have shrunk. Caesar salad was pathetic - where was the chicken and the rest of the ingredients? - almost all was salad greens and no dressing. Prawns tacos and sliders were a way overpriced. Passion fruit soda was tasteless - I couldn't taste any fruit flavour at all. Won't be back again and won't be recommending. Service very average :(
Lisa
Four of us had lunch today and it was divine, inside was busy so we sat outside by the hallowed foodtruck ,the food was great and just as we had imagined while watching the foodtruck on tv,micheal even served us one dish and had his picture taken with us.we will go back for dinner definitely,we left feeling satisfied but not bloated, totally recommend to all, loved it.

We had lunch at this gorgeous little place yesterday. The food was absolutely delicious - incredibly fresh and light and tasty - just perfect. I loved the busyness too, and table sharing seems to be the norm. Service was friendly and efficient and fast.
Another bonus - there's brilliant people watching available at this location with so much activity around the City Works Depot.
I'm looking forward to eating here on a regular basis.

5 of us went for dinner on a Friday night - couldn't have picked a busier time! However this made for real atmosphere. The staff are great - very friendly and welcoming. Had a bit of a wait for a table but that was balanced by the speed of the food once we'd ordered. Absolutely loved the beetroot beef burger - had all the flavour and memories of a homemade burger from way back then! Chose not to have alcohol so had two cola and honey drinks. Delicious! Could have had more. All in all a good experience and fantastic value for money.
Courtney Maloyd
Had a group of us for lunch, was such a great meal, I had the chicken burger it was AMAZING and the side chips were great too. Everyone else loved their hotdogs and vege burgers and the salad was great value for money. Will definitely be returning!
Debbie Hunter
What an awesome concept. Had lunch there with a friend on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed my first hotdog in years. Loved the freshly baked spelt roll and your chips are delicious. Can't wait to return. Hope your wine list expands a little and look forward to the coffee machine arriving :)
The prices are very reasonable also

We really loved it too.

The food was full of fresh flavours and the best thing was we took the kids and we all ate without being thirsty (from too much salt) and feeling guilty (because we ate too much fat filled food and even worse - loaded the kids up with junk). What a relief! Should have been done sooner - but glad to have it down the road.

Better still - today I got a $100 voucher from a friend!

So I am going to try out a lunch.

Well done everyone at the Food Truck - keep up the fantastic work.

After hearing about this new venture & enjoying the TV show, I was looking forward to eating there, I took my girlfriend, niece & nephew there for a meal.

It was busy enough when we were there, not long opened, explains the lack of reviews. The service was great & the hot dogs are being made from the actual food truck, a nice touch.

The atmosphere is great with all the old items spread around, I daresay as time moves one there will be more added.

So between the 4 of us we chose what we thought would be nice. As this place grows so will the menu. I'll be looking forward to seeing the menu grow, thou will be a while before I return, living at the other end of the country does NOT help.

I enjoyed the fish picklets & Drew enjoyed his burger.
The portion of vege chips would have been bigger.

We were given a review to fill out there, so don't forget to fill yours out, they are an aid to help.

Enjoy it as much as we did.......

The Food Truck Garage is across from work, and I've waited years for something like this to open up. I've seen the show, love the ideology and it meets all expectations.

Nice one!.

I went on a sunday and it was very busy.
Still the service was great, found us a table right away and presented us with the food fast enough for such a busy day.
It is certainly fast food.

We ordered 2 hot dogs and the baked chips, the papple dog and the cheek dog.
The papple dog was delicious and full of flavour. The cheek dog on the other hand was a little tasteless.
In both, I think they needed more meat as there was far too much bread and a teeny bit of meat.
The baked chips were definitely delicious and I would order them again.

Overall great experience and if they put more meat and less bread, it would be perfect!

Price worth it!
Crystal Chan
Very good food, atmosphere, services is excellent! The great flavor burger and the tapas are great! Awesome! Highly recommended! Keep it up food truck team!

It must be a hard ask opening a new restaurant when you have a profile as the expectations are high. However the Food Truck Garage delivered just what we expected. Simple, fresh no fuss food at a very responsible price.

Most of the dishes do have a small twist and the stand outs for us were the Paua and Pork dog along with the beetroot burger and chips.

Very friendly and organised staff.

Great place to take kids.

I've known this from the day my friend started working here and she is still at the present time. I am a self-confessed gym junkie but I got to be honest, eating clean is my number one struggle to stay fit and have the body figure I want. If you're one of those people who are very conscious about their health, this is definitely the perfect place to be.

In Food Truck, not only they offer healthy food but healthy delicious food choices. You can have healthy lifestyle and satisfied cravings at the same time.

It's been ages I haven't gone here and I heard there been a lot of changes in menu but still, their burgers will be my all time favourite.
Frank
It's great to see fresh places like this where they serve funky flavoursome meals that look and taste good and don't cost the earth! I usually go for the fish burger and the honey cola (not on the menu anymore unfortunately - please bring it back)! They do amazing salads, the burgers are all great, and the hot dogs (haven't had one of these yet) look good too. Lastly the chunky fries are baked so they are healthier!

I came here with a few friends after wanting to go for a while on Saturday night. The place was pretty packed, but we were seated easily enough.

I ordered the beetroot salad and kumara chips while all my friends had burgers. I really enjoyed my salad, and the price was very reasonable. Apparently the burgers were ok, not quite as good as they hoped considering the hype.

Only downside was when one of the waiters brought my friends burger, the whole burger fell apart, and instead of taking it back to the kitchen, she just left it. The other staff seemed a bit bored, but the chefs in the kitchen looked like they were enjoying themselves.

Due to the popularity of this place, I had to check it out for myself. So the boyfriend and I popped over one afternoon to check what all the fuss about. This visit was some time ago, so yeah... Its been changed a bit now

Walked out to the converted parking lot in the Auckland city and see a cute little building packed with businessman and woman in their office gear from head to toe. The style was really fresh, it reminded me of primary school with the wooden table and chairs. The place was used fully, with selves stocked with supplies, the seating arrangement made to the point where you could easily elbow the person behind you. Though it was it quite cramped, the atmosphere was really warm and friendly. Staff was always smiling and energetic.

As for the food, well, it was cheap and affordable, even a student can afford on this one, healthy and tasty indeed. We ordered 3 dishes on this occasion.

Entree:

Prawn Tacos - oh dear, these were adorable, it was scoffed down so fast, maybe it was because we were so hungry

His meal: Some hot dog meal, but its off the menu now, but as he recalls it, he loved it!

My meal: Chilli Chickette - was awesome, mouth watering and delicious. The bun was soft and absorbed the juices and the salad was refreshing and went well with the warm patty.

Overall, this place is very good. Quick meal, affordable, drinks available, great for the working class people out there or just people that appreciate food :)

This is such as great place to head for quick, healthy food! We went there for dinner before heading out for some drinks the other night. There were three of us so we decided to get three of the starters (some of them only came with two pieces but you have the option of adding a third). So we had the Lampeano sliders, Baby Papple dogs, chilli bakes and Mini Tostadas. They were all really yummy! For dessert I couldn't walk away without trying 'The Works' frozen yoghurt and it was the perfect finish to the meal. The great thing was we walked away feeling satisfied without feeling stuffed and a little smug that we had a delicious healthy dinner!

I only experienced the Food Truck Garage for the first time today! Better late than never?

Parking: easy pay and display parking around City Works Depot
Menu: I was busy catching up with a friend so there was a lot of talking and not a lot of reading the menu going on. Didn't even snap a pic of my yum looking food (sorry, just snapped my drink). Wish I had taken a closer look at the menu because I see they do frozen yoghurt sundaes! I ended up ordering the Tokyo slaw wrap with chicken (I'm trying to err on the side of healthiness at the moment) and an old-fashioned lemonade. Both were delicious! Good portion size too.
Service: was friendly and attentive. Which is good because this place gets super busy around lunchtime. Free sparkling water was a nice touch.
Price: Mine came to $17
The verdict: I am totally coming back here to try more food!

Jenna
http://hellorelax.com

I invited a bunch of girlfriends for an early Friday dinner before heading elsewhere in the city. It the first time at Food Truck Garage for all of us. As it was early, there were plenty of tables free when we arrived but it filled up quickly.

We found a large table and ordered burgers and sliders, sodas and a couple orders of Chilli Bakes. I was surprised to see not a single cheese burger*, but there were two beef+beetroot+carrot burgers. I enjoyed my fish burger and enjoyed the healthier spin on fast food. The flavours were OK though everything seemed under seasoned. From the menu, I expected much bolder flavours.

The drinks were interesting, though for $5 a pop, they lack…well, POP. They taste like diluted versions of what could be delicious drinks. Beer and wine on tap are a far better buy. The complimentary sparkling water is a very nice touch.

Service was good and we spent around $20 per person which left us feeling content but not full. Perhaps a few extra sides and taster plates would have helped though that would have brought it up to $25-30 per person which I would consider expensive for a food truck.

*Since our visit I'm pleased to see they have added cheese to their menu as an optional extra. Well done!

I love watching The Food Truck on TV, and admire Mike’s values and approach to food. The Beefroot burger and the Chickette had good flavours complimenting each other, and the bun was soft and fresh. Favourite burger was the LSA Fish burger which tasted like Fillet O' Fish, but healthier. However, $12 is really expensive for a burger that size, it was pretty small. Despite the cheap prices here, the serving sizes also reflect that so be prepared to order 2 burgers to make up for the size of 1 normal portion.

I also ordered the Baked Chips ($10 for a large) to share. Deeelicious. Why deep fry when you can bake? It tastes so much better. The beetroots are divine,

My favourite dish had to be the Leafeater salad which was filling and tasty, with plenty of hazelnuts going through to give that dish the crunch and texture.

EDIT: recently went for a re-visit and tried their new Frozen Yoghurt- The Works which was tangy and healthy. I liked how there was dark chocolate to contrast with the yoghurt, and the goji berries instead of normal berries which I usually find too sweet. For $4, this was a great bargain.

EDIT: I've been back recently and am sad to say that I was hugely disappointed. Their salad bowls consisted of grated carrots and chopped up vegetables with a yoghurt dressing that didn't even tie up the flavours together well. Suffice to say, pre-made supermarket salads are nicer than this. Their frozen yoghurt is as good as ever but the increase in price has made it not so worth anymore.

Located in City Works Depot, Food Truck Garage attempts to it provide a quick meal without the guilt for the health conscious Aucklanders. I was looking forward to giving this place a try, so we stopped by for a quick dinner on a Sunday night. Similar to fast food joints, we ordered our food at the counter and found ourselves a table. Despite the fact that the place was packed, our meals were served in under 15 minutes.

The appetising toasted pita crisps served with lentil dip, lemon hummus and drizzled with olive oil was lovely. It was so good that we started eating before I remembered to take a photo (the same can be said about my partner's burger). The prawn tacos made up of beans, avocado salsa and grilled prawns plated with a dollop of lime emulsion were rather small in size but the taste was great. But for $10, there should have been more prawns. The chicken burger is composed of a grilled chicken and courgettes patty (which is made up of at least 50% vegetables), lettuce, sprout and lemon hummus, served on a warm toasted spelt bun. It was a decent burger and the different ingredients complimented each other. My favourite part of the dish, is the baked thick-cut chips made from potatoes, swede and beets. Baked rather than deep fried, the flavours of the vegetables are not masked by oil and is a much healthier option.

Because of our healthy choices for dinner, we decided to balance it out with a litre of Hallertau lager ($16!) I'm quite impressed with the food and service at the Food Truck Garage. The healthier option will be a hit with the health conscious Aucklanders and it's convenient location with ample parking will only encourage more diners to give this place a try.
Cheap Eats
Food Truck Garage is a favourite of ours. Big flavours and modern food similar to what you see on the TV programme - all with a healthy twist of some sort.. Prices are really reasonable and the place is always buzzing. It's based on American food but with lots of other influences giving it a simple-but-sophisticated-at the-same-time menu feel. We're a bit jealous of all the people we know working round that area who go there as their lunch local. For more on the menu and our recommendations, go to http://cheapeats.co.nz/food-truck-garage/ for a full review.

The Food Truck Garage is the brain child of another celebrity chef Michael Van de Elzen for TV show fame. I must admit I went with a little trepidation, because I think Celebrity chef's premises can be over priced (I'm looking at you Best Ugly Bagels). The premises themselves are nice and clean. They have the same kind of kitch set up as Al Brown's Depot and they in fact share a lot of similarities. The place is a restaurant and not just the food truck, although the truck sits to the side and the kitchen inside is used to cook the hot dogs.

The menu is simple a few shared starters, hot dogs, burgers, salads and sides. It has very broad flavours, influenced by asian cuisines, but still maintaining their strong Americana feel, more so even than Depot. The first thing that is striking about the menu is price. Food Truck Garage, just is not expensive. I really expected it to be a lot more a hot dog is 8 dollars, a huge salad or burger is 12 dollars and sides are about 6 dollars. The serve free sparking water and make their own delicious sodas (which are pricey at $5 bucks each). Noticeably there is no dessert.

The flavour pairings are eclectic, I particularly liked the pork and paua hot dog. I love charcuterie and the sausage was excellent and paired well with the sauces, although a slightly smaller bun might be nice. The coleslaw was stellar as well, it had a lighter vinaigrette dressing, rather than a creamier heavy style and this was well suited to the herbs that punched through in flavour. The salads themselves were good, large thinly cut beetroot was interesting, although was perhaps not the winner on the day.

I think the thing that set it appart was that there was an emphasis on fresh seasonable vegetables. They really were superb. There was a real intelligence in the cooking. Everything was easy to prepare and required little a la minute cooking, but it emphasised its fresh nature. This I think lets them offer really reasonably priced food, because what you get is still of excellent quality.

The bold flavour landscape of The Food Truck Garage, is obviously a sort of cooking that is popular at the moment. My only trepidation about this is I think sometimes you loose the subtlety of the cooking. Some places I think manage to balance this pretty well, but The Food Truck, pushes this boundary. At the price point I have no complaint, but a part of me was wanting food a little less intense and a little less big in texture. Not to draw to fine a point though, I think this is what they are going for and as a lunch spot it is quite a find.

Ultimately it goes to show that not a lot is required if you produce fresh, seasonal, rustic cooking at a reasonable price with bold flavours. The fact is you can easily get a great lunch for 8-14 bucks and this is great news in Auckland City.
