Review Miss Clawdy - Auckland Central

Nathan
We got the mussels because the oysters weren't available tonight because they hadn't been ordered in. We enjoyed the fish tacos and the chicken tacos, and the pork ribs were pretty good. One recommendation would be for the staff to routinely refill customers' waters without having to be asked; it is just common sense. Also, don't cut back on napkins. We ate the tacos and pork ribs with our hands, so obviously we need more. Apart from that, the staff had a friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was cozy and pleasant.

Had a nice dinner at Miss Clawdy last night....the food was hot, fresh, flavorful, and good quantities. The staff were friendly, and nice. The restaurant was comfortable and warm. I would recommend their signature fried chicken. I will note it is boneless, which I prefer, and cajun flavored which was a nice break from that other fried chicken place all Kiwi's love. The corn bread was also nice e, warm, and fresh, but would be better served with honey butter in my opinion. I would recommend for a taste of Southern cooking.

Amazing atmosphere we had a lovely time! Prawns, fried chicken and jerk chicken were highly recommended, chef’s special dessert must try 👍apparently the cocktails are nice too I'd have to try next time when i don't drive.

Lovely ambience, very warm and welcoming staff. Ordered a blackened prawns, chips, calamari, fried chicken taco, and Jambalaya. Our favorite was the Jambalaya, lots of lovely flavors in there with a great kick of spice. Prawns chips and calamari were a nice starter meal to have. Least favorite was the taco, chicken tasted very bland. We finished off our meals with a key lime pie which was great in flavour but quite rich. Overall a lovely vibe and good value for money and accessible.

May 2023: Food is good not great. Fried chicken was a touch sweet for me and while crispy, could have been jucier. Love the space and staff, food could be slightly better for Southern American. I also lived in those parts of US for a few months so I've eaten a lot of that food.

Food was absolutely scrummy, came for the poutine and was not disappointed! So delicious and decent sized portions. We also got a mango chilli margarita which was 10/10

Came with a group of 4. Mexican tapas style restaurant with fish tacos a must try. Fried chicken with a good batter and nachos with guac are the staples. Service was a little slow and it even took me a while to pay. Limited seating so come early (or book ahead).

Because I don't want to drink, I ordered this mocktail and it's really really super delicious. It is strongly recommended that the name of the drink seems to be miss clady punch. It was done by a sister with purple hair, next time I decided to dye my hair purple😝

We ordered the signature dish BBQ Pork Ribs at 6pm and we were told it is not available! Quite disappointed hence the 4 star. They only have two signature dish - fried chicken and pork ribs. The staff suggested for Beef Ribs so we gave it a try. Well I am not disappointed for the beef ribs - it is so soft, cooked till falling off the bone and delectable. Great ambience, interior, and service too.

It's our first time here. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff. The atmosphere of the restaurant is great. Every single dish we had were absolutely amazing. Full of flavour. If you love good food. You need to visit Miss Clawdy.

Good friendly front of house service. The punch cocktail was nice on a sunny day. The blackened prawns were cooked perfectly. Recommended as a place to spend a long lunch or evening.

The food soooo amazing here, particularly the onion ring! That is my favorite. The manager is a gentle girl, very patient and careful to answer my questions. Strong recommendation!👍🏻

Great food and service. Respect to the wait staff having to deal with some difficult customers. They have a lot more patience than me.

Me and my friend came here on the very last night before lockdown as a surprise last minute supper meal. The food was good, the prawns were very nice and the cornbread. A lovely girl served us and was very helpful when we wanted to drink some wine with the courses. It's a shame it was so quiet as people were preparing for lockdown but I would still like to visit again after lockdown when it's back open. Thank you to the staff

Went in on a busy night but the staff was very friendly and found us a table :) The food was delicious waiting time was completely acceptable and the price was very fair for the food. 10/10 would go again!

Amazing service and great food. We were warmly welcomed and seated promptly on arrival. This was our first time here and had some questions about the menu. Lester not only explained the menu but also gave us good knowledge on the cuisine. We were simply blown away by his knowledge and courtesy. Great guy and great place, must visit.

Went to Miss Clawdy for a small, intimate dinner and most of the food did not disappoint. Highlights were the tacos (pulled pork and fish,), beef ribs(!!!) and the kumara. the famous fried chicken was okay and so was the jambalaya, but probably wouldn't order again. We had the strawberry cake/tart and the cheesecake for the dessert and I would suggest you give the cheesecake a miss unless you like your dessert extremely dense, and not in the good way. <br/><br/>Service was an A++ and our waiter was very fast and friendly. It was a pleasure having him as our waiter that evening. The manager was also very welcoming and friendly and the overall ambience of the restaurant and the speed at which our dishes came out made dining an absolute pleasure. <br/><br/>

The food here is to die for and the service is wonderful! We had the cornbread/Mac & cheese entree which were served nice & hot. Main was the beef ribs which were so tender and falling of the bone. The friend chicken was so good too!Dessert we had the cheese cake & the doughnuts with ice cream which was out of this world! Large portions of food as well & would highly recommend for anyone wanting to try them out. Can’t wait to go back :)

Went here a while back and unfortunately missed taking pictures of my vegetarian dishes. I ordered the skillet cornbread and the hand cut chips. Can't really say I was huge fan of both. I would like to see some vegetarian jambalaya as my partner loved the current one on their menu.

Went to Miss Clawdys for dinner tonight with my girlfriends, the food was out to us so quickly and was to a high standard. Everything was so full of flavour and was just as good as I remember. An added bonus was the staff were so lovely!!

Went there lastnight for a birthday. The fried chicken and cornbread were my favourite . I ate so much of it that by the time my main meal came I was already full . The staff were soooooo lovely . Like they all looked like they really enjoyed their job which made our time there good . Really enjoyed it here

Famous chicken is the best! It’s been two days since I was there and it’s all I can think about.<br/><br/>This place was a lifesaver after a disappointing Valentines hiccup at another restaurant we were supposed to dine at. I had seen great reviews of Miss Clawdy so when we stumbled on it, we had to try it.<br/><br/>Good value for money

I was a little disappointed seeing the tacos at first because they had so much colelaw piled on top which I'm not really a fan of but wow! The slaw was somehow really, really good as was the braised pork filling. The Mac and cheese was also deliciously cheesy and creamy. Service was very good also with a great location, decor and ambience with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating

We came with a booking for four people. We asked the server when we sat down if it would be alright if we used three Zomato Gold memberships, to which he said was no problem at all and that we just needed to order 6 smaller meals (as large plates are exempt from this). We thought this was perfect and proceeded to order. Another waitress came to take our order, we informed her that we would be using three Zomato Golds, to which she said was fine so we went ahead and ordered six smaller dishes and a large one. A few minutes go by and yet another staff member comes to our table and tells us that this restaurant only allows a maximum of two Zomato Gold memberships to be used. Something that was completely different to what we had just heard from TWO previous staff members. We decided to cancel two of our smaller dishes.<br/><br/>In the end, we ordered the Famous Fried Chicken, Mac & Cheese, Blackened Prawns, Baja Taco, and Crispy Cajun Eggplant.<br/><br/>Every single dish was phenomenal. The chicken was super flavourful and crispy but still juicy and tender on the inside. The mac and cheese was not heavy at all, it tasted very fresh and unique, probably from the combination of three different cheeses being incorporated. The prawns packed a big punch, they were very large, succulent and had an amazing spiced, chargrilled flavour. The fish tacos tasted very fresh and light, the batter didn’t weigh the taco down at all. The eggplant was also delicious and I just couldn’t get enough, each bite had a great mix of textures and variety of vegetables.<br/><br/>Overall, very impressed with the standout quality and flavours of all the dishes we tried. Amazing value for everything we had as it only came out to be $15 per person. On the other hand, I do feel like the Zomato Gold rules need to be made clear to all staff to avoid awkward situations like the one we faced.

Not for the food, we didn’t get a chance to eat. First they don’t support all dishes on the menu for Zomato gold. Second and it’s the most important thing is, their service is terrible. We were sitting there for 5 mins not even a person come to us. Even though we waved a lot of times. And I have to go get the waiter. And no water was serving at all for 15 mins even after the waiter knows we were waiting. Anyway, not keen for second visit.

Loved the food there and service was amazing.

Been wanting to come here for ages and I’m glad I’ve finally made it. The food is yum, especially the Jamaican Jerk Chicken, I wonder what sauce they use, it’s so flavoursome. A lot of grilled chicken gets seasoned quite well on the surface but the meat itself is bland, whereas here the chicken is seasoned all the way through, which is perfect! We also ordered hand cut chips, crab dip, fried chicken wrapped in a bun. The dip would taste better if they could add a little more actual crab meat, but I reckon crabs are expensive. Overall it’s good experience and I can’t wait to come back and try other items on the menu.

Thanks Miss clawdy for the wonderful dinner last night! <br/><br/>We, two ladies, ordered the signature dish - famous fried chicken, jambalaya, blackened prawns and BBQ Pulled pork tacos. The food was decently good. The famous fried chicken is always my favourite! Crispy outside, juicy inside! And of cos, a glass of Hurrican -cocktail was needed for the Mexican night! <br/><br/>I also like the interior design there, the little lanterns up on the ceiling! These made the atmosphere there a lot more relaxing! <br/><br/>Thank you, team! And see you again next time!

We came here on a week night and it wasn't very busy, we ordered drinks to start and maybe 10 minutes later ordered our food. All of our food came before our drinks and we were almost finished our food by the time we got there. The cocktails were overly sweet and not that nice. Apparently the bar was really busy but there were only about 3 other tables occupied... The food was average and the service was very poor, the woman who served us was quite rude and only cracked a smile when she apologised after we mentioned the waiting time. Just a heads up as well that over half the menu isn't eligible for the 1 + 1 on Zomato Gold. Not sure how this place has such good reviews, we won't be visiting again.

The best South America food i've tri in Auckland! crab dip and the marinated fried chicken ( i forgot the name LOL) are my FAVORITE😍😍😍, the dessert ( with ice cream one) is the MUST TRY also!

Really like the awesome food and friendly service here. Great choice for party with friends. Really appreciate for the secret menu🥰<br/>

I just dined here for lunch with a friend and pretty much everything was terrible. Water glasses were not refilled. Food delivered to the table was wrong and when I questioned it I was argued with. Food took a long time to come and there was 10 mins between dishes. The mushroom taco was tasteless and un taco like. Mushroom and cabbage in a damaged taco shell making a big bland mess. We were overcharged at the counter. Fried chicken and margarita were yummy. I used ZOMATO gold which means you can’t actually order any of the main dishes or lunch dishes so it seemed rather pointless. I heard they are recently under new management which may explain this. So disappointed. The fish market down the road is a much better option. My office is close by but I won’t go again.

The quality of here has been dropped perhaps they joined the Zomato gold. The food was salty. Staff not friendly. Perhaps they have issues with customers using Zomato gold. Would be better if it clearly says on the condition that people can have only small food with gold membership.
Greg Potter
I had a really great experience here. The staff were super friendly and helped answer all my questions. The food was fantastic, especially the beef ribs. I found the ambiance really comfortable, and I appreciated the tidy layout of the cutlery and menus.

Celebrated my husbands birthday here and it was great. Food was good but price did not match the portions. Our favourite dish was the poutine and the popcorn. However it was still a good night due to the friendly and helpful service. We got a seat outside with the heaters on which was awesome too.
Warrick CT
Miss Clawdy has dropped in quality since becoming a member of Zomato gold. The Poutine and Jambalaya are smaller in size and have less flavour compared to previous visits and are not worth their menu price.
Molly Mo
the chincken taste ok but a little overcook, and it is bit small for big plate. The eggplant not really can taste the eggplant, take over by tomato. and the salad was boring nothing really good. 1+1 gold on food only can use on small plate, not a good value place will not go back again.
Shannon
Our waitress was really nice, however the size of the dishes were small, especially the ‘large plates’ which are meant to serve three or more people (hence excluded from Zomato gold). Pictured is the Cajun eggplant ‘large’ plate. Also had the fish tacos which were quite basic, just fish, cabbage and sauce. The complimentary popcorn was a nice extra touch.
PK
Great Dinner, service was good though the drinks came out very slow, when we had finished eating.Loved the chicken Po burger and the corn bread was ok just to sweet and cakey for me.Loved the cocktails.
Vegesaur
Went here today for taco Tuesday. I picked the mushroom tacos, and they were pretty good. Nice and fresh, but quite a lot of liquid from the mushrooms, so a bit messy. Nice flavours, but not very filling, as it was just cabbage mainly. Would love them to use jackfruit too. Not many veggie items on the menu, so I'd go back if they offered more options. Portions are a little small.
Samuel Rosset
Zomato gold limited to the small plates. Food is good but small portions with respect to price. Very friendly staff though.
Breadzania
We were here on first table. The food is okay. I didn't walk away feeling amazed. The fried chicken was nice. Overall not bad and since its first table we are satisfied with it.

Miss Clawdy's is a beautiful restaurant quite close to the city.<br/>Ambience: 5/5<br/>Service: 5/5 (really good about dietary requirements)<br/>Food:5/5

Food was great and staff are super friendly. The reason for the 3 stars was the fact that Zomato Gold didn’t cover the main sized meals which I thought was pretty random. In their defense I forgot to mention before I ordered. After I ordered food I let them know and one of the servers made me unlock the Gold and then told me that what I had ordered didn’t come under the deal which I thought was pretty rude. Overall the atmosphere was really lovely and my particular waitress was so lovely and the food was amazing but if you have Zomato Gold please be aware that it does not cover the main sized plates.

We had dinner the other day. Staffs were friendly, the food was really nice and well presented, filling as well. It was a great experience . We will def go back. <br/>

We tried this restaurant with zomato gold. The restaurant looks nice. Staff was nice but they have not understood some of our questions. We have tried 3 different wait staffs. The main thing is food and the food was great. When we tried to pay the bill, the staff forgot to give us the zomato gold discount even though we've told them that we have the zomato gold membeship before the order. After we realized that, They did not give us refund. Instead of refund, we've gotten a voucher for a dish. We have zomato gold and next time we'll get a free meal anyway. So it does not work for us.

Clawdys got great ambience, great service from the waitresses and my lord was the food divine. It really did taste amazing and had so much flavour. Kudos to the chef/cook for doing an amazing job.<br/>Only issue are the portion sizes. Its definitely way too small for what we pay for. Literally ate the ribs in 10 min and the tacos in 5. Hopefully they bump up the sizes cause I definitely want to come back!<br/>Btw the ribs were absolutely amazing the meat literally slid off the bone, it was so tender!!

Beautiful restaurant and busy Friday night. Food was good, however seating was a bit tight. No issues with Zomato Gold Buy 1 Free 1 on mains.
Jacinda Rouru
Came here for dinner with quite a lot of friends over the weekend so we got to try a lot of different things.<br/><br/>The fried chicken didn't have any flavour/seasoning. The ribs were tender but the flavour wasn't amazing. Learned the maque choux is batch made as we couldn't remove the bacon but it came out with barely any anyway. The jerk chicken and mac 'n' cheese were delicious though.<br/><br/>Service wasn't the best. Messed up our drink orders (giving us glasses instead of jugs) and a couple order of fries never arrived. When I asked to have them removed an hour after ordering, they came out 15 minutes later and still on the bill.<br/><br/>The cocktails are definitely overpriced and you get larger jugs for the same price at Orleans.<br/><br/>The atmosphere was great but probably won't be returning due to the service and the average food.
Food For Life
Yummy food, good cocktails and no hassle to use zomato gold at all. Will def be back. Jambalaya was our favourite and miss clawdy fruit punch also very good probably need a bit more of the alcohol kick.

Booked this place with a group of friends as they mentioned the menu is designed for sharing.. the ambiance of the restaurant is nice. The food was mediocre. I ordered the fried chicken with coleslaw, I thought it would be full of flavour however that was my least favourite dish, it tasted super bland and didn’t have enough seasoning. The prawns was full of flavour and the corn bread was good as well as the chicken salad, everything else was just ok. Think it’s a tad overpriced for average food maybe it’s due to the location they bumped up the price. I did ask the waitress if she could bring out a birthday cake which I gave to them to bring at the end of the evening, she said it would cost me and additional $10 for them to cut it... we spent almost $400 and to be told there would be an additional charge for cutting a medium size cake was kind of a let down. Other than that the service was great and very efficient. We got our food fairly fast perhaps because it was a Sunday and it wasn’t too busy. Overall it was a decent night.
Louise
I came here the other night using first tables. The service here was lovely! We ordered a lot of food and realised we weren’t eating fast enough for table to plates ratio and the staff were very helpful in extending our table.<br/><br/>We got the Fried chicken, which was nice when you dipped it in the sauce, but when you eat it by itself it’s a little under seasoned and bland. The shrimp and grits was my favourite dish and would 100% go back just to get this dish. The corn bread was nice too - it was a little different from other cornbreads I’ve had but overall I enjoyed it. Personally wasn’t the biggest fan of the Jambalaya but that’s because I personally don’t like celery (the perks are the jambalaya smells exactly like pizza)

Miss Clawdy is a cosy, bustling, but comfortable joint in Wynyard Quarter. I have visited here on a few occasions with a large group (6+). Unfortunately I never took any photos as 1) we always demolished the food and 2) the lighting isn’t the best for photos! <br/><br/>The ambiance is warm and welcoming. The seating is such a lovely concept, very casual and cosy. It is always packed when I visit, but the atmosphere is great. Service is always prompt and attentive, without being overbearing.<br/><br/>I would say I have tried about 70-80% of the dishes on their menu (excluding desserts) and have enjoyed every single one of them! Their food is served as they are cooked, we usually get a large selection and share amongst the table.<br/><br/>Their food is always fresh and flavoursome. Love the flavour combinations and the variety of dishes available. I honestly cannot fault their food - they’re all so good! If I had to choose a single dish, my personal favourite would have to be the fried chicken. Other standouts would be their fish tacos, blackened prawns and beef ribs! <br/><br/>If you haven’t already, you must make a visit! <br/>Will definitely be back. Love this place.<br/><br/>Environment- 5/5<br/>Service- 5/5<br/>Food- 5/5<br/>

They really know their spices and fried chicken. The blackened prawn is sooooooo good I wanted to know what spices they used it’s just too tasty. The fried chicken is also very delicious

Great staff! Great food! And such a cute place!!!! <br/>Would definitely go again!! The chicken was so goooood!!! 10/10 recommend for a cute date night!<br/>
Andy
Great place for a meal, especially when it comes to dinner. The lighting is on point and the entire atmosphere created by the live cooking and fireplace is fascinating! The food is a bit on the pricey end, but the taste won't disappoint.
Cameron Rowlands
Fantastic service, lovely food. Cornbread was a surprising treat and the prawns were amazing. Decent sized portions. Chilled out setting. A good night out.
Kate Adams
Disappointed! Used to come here all the time, especially for the fried jerk chicken. <br/>Customer service was lacklustre/non existent. New “southern fried chicken” is bland and boring and the kids meals were not well thought out, not to mention only 2 of the options were available. Bring back the old Miss Clawdy’s we miss you !
Hui Xi
The food is fantastic. I loved the Jamaican Jerk Chicken and the Southern Fried Chicken. I recommend anyone who enjoys central American food to pay a visit.
Jessica Guan
Best Beef Ribs ever!!! Also the Crab Dip is awesome! Nice vibe, great environment. Good quality food and very friendly service! Will definitely come back again!

Fantastic restaurant. Warm and welcoming staff. Jamaican Jet Chicken is one of the best I’ve had in Auckland. It’s flavoursome and really tender as well. Good music and drinks. Will definitely come back again.
BelaIna
They have one of those coziness environment where you can sit for hours and feel comfortable. <br/>The menu is simple and versions of small platters or main courses. <br/><br/>Used to love their old chicken recipe. The new one is a bit bland. Other than that everything is good. Lovely staff and great location.
James
The food was slow to get out, overcooked and the waitress was rude to our group. They did have good chips though, they were really tasty. Overall 2/5.
Desmond Chan
First of all you cannot order from their lunch menu with Zomato Gold. The ribs were so tender they fell off the bones easily. However, it felt like it is lacking taste and sauce. The portions were quite small for a $34.00 meal. I would not order it without Zomato Gold discount. Overall, the service and atmosphere for lunch was good. I would give them a 3.5/5 rating :-)
Dannielle Andrews
This is our go to place for family celebrations. Exceptional food, made to share around the table. Their cornbread is fantastic. Everything weve had there is super tasty. Food comes out at different times so you can focus on 1 dish at a time which I love
Aileen
Food/Drinks: We tried the Southern Fried Chicken, BBQ Pulled Pork Tacos and Hand Cut Chips & Aioli. <br/>The Southern Fried Chicken was pretty average overall. The fried chicken itself didn’t have seasoning and was just very basic. Although the coleslaw was decent and it came with sauce, there was nothing really special about this dish. <br/>The Pulled Pork Tacos were also only okay. It could have done with a bit more sauce. <br/>If you don’t mind potato skin on chips then the chips would be more enjoyable, but I found that with the skin on, it can get a bit bitter especially with the crispier pieces.<br/><br/>Aesthetics & Vibe: They had a nice ambience, old school music and cool lighting.
Emma
Birthday Dinner, ordered Jambalaya, Jamaican jerk chicken, souther fried chicken, bakes cheesy carb dip, roasted orange kumara and many more. Jamaican jerk is MUST TRY. <br/><br/>The portion size was reasonable and presentation was awesome. Love the place is so cozy and comfortable. <br/><br/>Service was EXCELLENT, staff was nice and friendly, customer service was outstanding and love the way they try to make the birthday more memorable. <br/>
Wine & Dine
Went to Miss Clawdys last night with 2 friends after not going for a couple years, (the last showing was not so impresive).<br/>But at a friends recommendation I reluctantly went in, and used my zomato gold.<br/>Miss Clawdys has a good interior design and with the right lighting and music is a quite comfortable place to dine, and dine we did.<br/>Corn bread was recommended and was worthy of it, The Best Corn Bread I have ever had. Blackened prawns spicy, sweet, crisp delicious. Cheesey crab dip a Cajun classic, they nailed it. That was just the beginning!<br/>Tacos perfectly executed soft corn tortillas battered fish, bbq pork and grilled mushroom, awesome. Feeling quite good about this experience we decide to keep going. Jambalaya, jamaican jerk chicken and of course southern fried chicken just a half haha. Jambalaya was great, jerk chicken was outstanding and the southern fried chicken was spot on and could feed 2 normal people with a side or 2. Ok the fried chicken white and dark meat both cooked perfectly juicy, tasty yeah real tasty and crispy.<br/>No dessert but was tempted to try the peanutbutter mousse, next time which will be soon.<br/>I loved how they didnt hold back on the spice nothing was too spicy and the flavors were well balanced.<br/>Service was good friendly, smiley, efficient.<br/>I would definately recommended.<br/>Oh Miss Clawdy food is love and right now I am in love with you.
Ray Lee
Update: they changed the fried chicken back to the original recipe! Will be bringing some friends back to have the best fried chicken in Auckland :)<br/><br/>They changed the recipe for the southern fried chicken. It’s very disappointing that they now serve flavorless fried chicken and some spicy mayo and call it “southern”. The meat and skin is suppose to have the kick of spiciness and now it taste worse than KFC. Really hope they change back to the original recipe... the old recipe even made it to the top 10 best fried chicken in Auckland. Happy to go back if owner responds and changes back the original recipe.
Jordan
Friendly servers. Got the Prawn Po Boy and Fried Chicken Po Boy. Decent however the batter on the fried prawns and chicken could do with some seasoning. A little bland. Will try something else next time. Zomato Gold accepted no problems :)
Mel
The service was terrible and the staffs were rude. Our food took over an hour during lunch time, and one dish was missing. It was really disappointing<br/>
Sabrina Hea
Came here for a friends birthday and tried the cornbread, jerk chicken, prawns and ribs. Honesty everything was a little disappointing except for the ribs. The cornbread was so dry and salty, jerk chicken was also dry. Prawn was average. But the ribs were so good. So soft and tender and had a really nice flavour. Service was really great but probably wouldn’t come back- simply just because I only enjoyed one dish out of so many we tried.
Pip
I love this place the vibes are really nice and the restaurant is always quite busy! I also love how they have Zomato gold. Drinks are delicious and food is delicious.

I’ve gotta give this a 5, as it’s a nostalgic fave! <br/>I LOVE their fried chicken and ceviche here. And their complementary cinnamon dusted popcorn is frikkin epic!<br/>The dinner/ night atmosphere here is really nice and cosy. I frequent here with the bestie, but it would be a great date spot.
Xin Liu
Service: feel like home! Thanks Vicky the manager <br/>Food: cornbread is perfect option to start! The fried chicken( with born) is the best in Auckland, we will come back for the short ribs as well. Thanks!
Nicole Choy
Food was good and the ambiance was also nice. Couldn’t really fault anything because service staff were really friendly and nice. But the food was alright. We ordered the Jambalaya, the fried chicken and the shrimp and grits.
Food2belly
It's been a long time since I have been here. Wow they do not disappoint. The best cinnamon donuts and tacos I have had! 🍩🌮<br/>The donuts were fluffy on the inside and super crispy on the outside. The ice cream, custard and donuts is the definition of a stable and reliable marriage💍<br/>The mushroom taco was so juicy with the beautiful addition of kumura chips on top 🍠🍄<br/>

This is the first time I’ve been at Miss Clawdy since dining there back in 2016 when it opened (cause it’s a bit out of the way). It is still amazing and delicious AF! We had the buttermilk fried chicken and the shrimp with grits. Also the jug cocktails are good value and we had fab service from Stuart. Well worth the trip down to Wynyard Quarter :)
Lucy
An nice restaurant located by the Wynyard Quarter. Excellent ambience mixed with lively music. <br/>They offer complimentary popcorn, which was quite yummy and different.<br/><br/>Nice and friendly staff, water are quite to replenish. However food was a little slow to serve.<br/><br/>The fish taco was nice, too bad it comes with a minimum quantity of 3. So we can only try one flavor. The slow cooked rib was good and tender. The jambalaya was nice however didn’t contain enough flavor. I found the seasoning of food a bit light at this restaurant.<br/><br/>Food: 7/10<br/>Food presentation: 7/10<br/>Service: 9/10<br/>Location: 10/10<br/>Ambience: 9/10<br/>Price $50 per person excl alcohol
Julia Louise
Love the complimentary popcorn 🍿 Clearly malted gluten and dairy free options, great cocktails and friendly service. Lovely ambience down by the waterfront in Wynyard Quarter. A little pricey for the portion sizes but a fun night out and tasty food.
Michael Gere
The jerk chicken was very good and the southern fried chicken was nice and crunchy. The ribs and the jambalaya are average. The service was good and the atmosphere was good.
Orlando Lee
I was really looking forward to eating here, the place is great but was disappointed with few things from our last visit. First was that the southern fried chicken that my wife ordered wasn’t cooked through, there was a hint of blood left in one of the two pieces we got, which by the way wasn’t much of a serving. Then the ribs came really late, we waited for at least 20+ min after my wife’s food came, she’s already done with hers by the time my food arrived. I should mention that there at most three tables with customers at that point and we were the third so the delay was really unacceptable.<br/>On a positive note, the chicken breading was really tasty and crunchy, it was good. The ribs could use a bit more BBQ sauce but otherwise tender and cooked perfectly. The experience left a bad taste in my mouth so I’ll have to reconsider if we’re coming back here at all considering there are few other better restaurants in the area.<br/>

Delicious new menu tasting at Miss Clawdy. We tried a number of dishes:🌽🍞Skillet cornbread - cooked in a cast iron skillet with Lewis Road whipped Chipotle butter. 🍗Southern fried chicken nibbles 🐔Jamaican jerk chicken, marinated in a mix of 20 herbs and spices 🦐🍤🥖Po'boys of crispy shrimp on a fresh baked baguette and remoulade, gherkins and Capers (my fav, served canapé style for us) 🌮🍍Braised pork Tacos with Bbq sauce, pineapple salsa 🥔Roasted orange kumara with brown butter, maple chilli Pumpkin seeds 🥜Dessert was Pic's Peanut butter Cheesecake: Oreo cookie crumb, Roasted peanuts and Salted Caramel (highly recommend!!!) I'm def going back for the Po'boys with buttermilk oysters.

Wait staff were very attentive and helpful. Layout and design of the resteraunt is warm, comfortable and modern, allowing a great view of the kitchen and its chef's preparing your meal. Food was delicious, ordered the jambalaya and southern fried chicken from the new menu. Chicken was cooked perfectly with a crisp exterior and juicy inside free from oil or grease.

We met here on a first date and a year later we wanted to celebrate at the same restaurant. When we arrived they even sat us down at the same table. The cocktails were delicious and the food so so tasty! Will definitely be back soon.

Food were good and ambient is great for dinner and catch up.<br/>There were some delay and the manager on ground did a fantastic job to make sure our dining experience were enjoyable.
Colby
Thoroughly burnt chicken .. and staff said it was the style. Paid $29 and got "are you ok with that?" for reply. No comment.. Definitely wont return.

Returning to Clawdy's for the third time, I left with the same overall impression-food is tasty but portions are really small for the price. On my last visit, I had struggled to find the meat in the gumbo as it was mostly all sauce. We had 3 people, with all our dishes being around 30-32 dollars each- and despite ordering four dishes, we still left hungry.<br/><br/>Service was very well done though, our water was always replenished straight away.

Central american food means... Jerk chicken!!! Great food. Wait-time can be quite long, but worth the wait for the yummy food. Recommended to try

Very friendly staff, nicely served food. Asked for some clarification and explanation of food and the staffs were very kind. Good atmosphere too! Will definitely come again! I had three main meals, and all three were amazing.

Food was delicious and outdoor seating was gorgeous. The poutine fries in particular stood out. Would love to return again and try the ribs.

A nice little spot situated amongst other eateries in the Wynyard Quarter. I was actually on my way to 16 Tun but they weren't due to open for another 30 minutes, so I popped into Miss Clawdy's for a midday munch instead. The wooded decor is gorgeous, the interior lighting is something special, bell basket & patio string lighting. The shelves are decorated with empty cans of various foreign branded peppers & sauces which I thought was quite interesting. The service was great! You get given a little basket of salted popcorn while you wait for your food, the menu is a contemporary take on the Southern-American cuisine, the cornbread & poutine was delicious! They've since removed the collard greens from the menu which I think was a wise decision because they were horrible haha most likely because it was made purely with kale and no wild cabbage or mustard greens, but apart from that I really enjoyed my lunch here (:

Great experience at Miss Clawdy last week! The beef short ribs were melt in your mouth and the atmosphere was romantic and relaxing. Cocktails great too!

Been here many many times before, and this place never fails to satisfy my love for southern American food. It is a must try in Auckland - a cocktail off their menu is also a must ;)

Fantastic pork tacos. Would return just for the tacos! Chips and coleslaw were as expected and cornbread was good. Can't go wrong with poutine!
#fatlyfe
Came here for dinner before the Harry Potter potted show!! Ordered the poutine and the jerk chicken. The poutine had pulled pork on it and I couldn’t get enough of it, maybe a little less pork but that’s just preferences. The jerk chicken was juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside I’m just not to sure what it came with 😳😳 it looked like potato mash but it wasn’t...... I could only eat a little bit. Next time cornbread n sirloin!!

Came here cause I've heard numerous people fuss over it. I dont understand what the fuss was about though. The food was not spectacular at all. The staff however are very polite.<br/><br/>On a different note we had asked to dine near the back as we were discussing something private. We were told we were not able to as it was reserved. It was empty the entire time we were there and we were there until closing.

First experience of using zomato gold. You can pick whatever on the menu. I ordered gumbo which is delicious (finished all of it lol). Service is also nice. Highly recommended 👍

Came here for a meal with just 2 of us. We had the Jamaican jerk chicken main dish and the ribs - also a main dish. Both absolutely delicious. The baby kumara crumble was equally delicious. Although the portions aren’t huge you are sharing and we both ended up nicely full. Staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable.
Georgina Bidois
JAMBALAYA!! Yes - this is a must order . The two girls I went with reckon the Poutine is also a must order . But if your not one for hot chips - get yourself the steak and chimichurri because it’s is amazing . Same with the friend chicken 👌🏾👌🏾 so good and such a fun night
Jade Francis
Staff very friendly. We got a free small bowl of spiced popcorn, who doesn’t love free stuff?! The ceviche was delicious and loved that we got tortillas to scoop it on to. The jerk chicken was a bit disappointing, it kinda tasted like plain crumbed chicken deep fried, couldn’t really taste any spiced or seasoning, though it was tender and juicy. The margarita had a real nice kick to it but it had this weird pulp in it which made you feel like you were eating fluff.

Came just before kitchens closed. People rave about the fried jerk chicken - it’s great but I prefer the chicken at coop chicken. That being said, still delicious chicken. Poutine has plenty of beef which was very filling. Probably wouldn’t order the grilled jerk chicken next time as it can get a tad dry. For dessert, you have to get the cinnamon doughnuts - they are ridiculously good and freshly deep fried!
Kristina Isabel
It wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing either. Feels like you could get better value for money. It's okay. Not horrible but not outstanding. the staff were nice and friendly while service could be better :)
Samee Al Amin
Great food, good service, nice ambience and decor. A bit pricey for the portions. We tried the fish and Jamaican jerk chicken. Would certainly recommend.
Foodie Auckland
Great place! We had good time. Portion were generous and service friendly. Highly recommended especially when more and more restaurant try not to differenciate themselves but only with high prices
Ying
Didn’t really like their service.. the $29 steak was dry and not worth the money. So little with presentation and overall all the dishes that we’ve ordered was just average... If someone asked “would you go back?” No. <br/>Maybe yes- Just for our selfie time
OwenLiang
Nice authentic Southern American style. Love the jambalaya and fried chicken with the yummy sauce. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Will definitely go back

Great location, friendly staff and tasty food. this place has all that you would expect when u dine out.<br/>steak was just cooked perfect.<br/>chipotle and lemon market fish had lovely flavors<br/>jerk chicken was just amazing.<br/>seasonal veggies and corn chips with avocado salsa made perfect sides for us.<br/><br/>overall we loved everything we ordered and would reccomend them all.
Patrick Mowat
Nice atmosphere and wait staff. Food was nicely presented and the tacos were fantastic! I personally didn't enjoy the cornbread but that may be more of a preference thing than the quality of the cooking. Would go back for sure.

Food: 3/5<br/>The Southern Fried Jerk Chicken was nicely fried and had a nice crisp. You get 4 pieces. The Southern Poutine had a nice amount of meat, but could’ve used more gravy to make the dish more saucy. Also couldn’t detect any cheese.<br/><br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Our waitress was very friendly and when we asked about the menu, she was very informative and willing to help.
Nova Huang
Great location with lovely decor, the staff was friendly and offered free popcorn for us. However we would never visit the place without zomato gold due to how overpriced the 200g steak was, and how little presentation it had. Half of the items on my plate were inedible - the white vegetable on it was acidic and watery, the sauce tasted like leaves. The steak was chewy, drenched and cold. Overall, the restaurant takes 4 star ratings to a whole new level compared to other 4 star options.

We ordered the beef 🌮, fried chicken and the short ribs. Food did take a while to come out but they were pretty busy so that might be why. <br/>Tasted good but portions were on the small side. <br/>Service was excellent though!!!
“Dailee” 25% Off Zomato Gold
Came here with a group of friends on Sunday afternoon. Quite quiet but service is really good. We ordered array of food and desserts from the menu, Total bill came to around $260 for 7 people. All the food is quite delicious, portion is ok, wish it is more generous. The highlights were sirloin steak, market fish, short ribs, ceviche and the cinnamon balls with ice cream.

Two of us went in for dinner, and ordered their signature Grilled Jamaican Jerk Chicken and also a plate of Southern Poutine – both to share. The Grilled Chicken was very well seasoned and went well with the mix of vegetables. The coconut puree was delightful.<br/><br/>I also enjoyed their poutine – I was expecting a fully on heavy cheesy poutine with fries, but this one was so much better. It is served with so much beef brisket and their potatoes are thick and chunky, both juicy enough with gravy. <br/><br/>The portion size was filling for two, but we managed to eat all of what was served.<br/><br/>Service was grand, the people who served us were all friendly and attentive from start to finish, even when I used the Zomato Gold option. Great casual bar environment with delicious dishes to share.

Miss Clawdy is definitely a 10/10. From the service through to the ambience and the delectable food. Would highly recommend the jerk chicken. What a gem!

We ate at Miss Clawdy last night and were really disappointed. The service was extremely slow (granted it was a busy night but even at 9pm on a weekday the wait was long) and the food was very average. We ordered the ceviche, baby kumara, mushroom and fish tacos and the poutine. The ceviche was good - tasted fresh and the flavours were nice. The baby kumara had a strange topping (we couldn’t figure out what it was) and was garnished with about two macadamia nuts. The tacos were barely filled and were extremely basic - the mushroom taco was basically just fried mushrooms covered with a green sauce. And the poutine was nothing like real poutine at all. For the price, it is really not worth it.

Cocktails are good<br/>Since they started offering Uber eats I feel their food quality had dropped a bit (trying to do too many things) . Would recommend if your out on the town looking for a decent place in the viaduct area would recommend (food is still decent, but won’t wow you for the price)
Montina XU
Such an awesome place for Sunday night<br/>Its only a short walk to the harbor.<br/>Very attentive staff and fantastic fried chicken!<br/>This is not a common style of decor you can find in CBD and I have found it fun, enjoyable and detail oriented! Strongly recommend!<br/>

Amazing place for all kind of occasions. Food is super tasty and fried chicken is a must try. Friendly staff and wonderful atmosphere, will definitely come back.

Went there with a couple of friends on Wednesday night. Really liked the decor of the place. Very comfy. You can sit outside and enjoy the sun and the breeze as well as the amazing food! The food is perfect to share. Fried chicken was sooooo good!Highly recommended! If you are into sweets, don’t miss out CINNAMON DOUGHNUTS!They are absolutely delicious! The service was great and we had a really good time there. Recommend to everyone.👍👍👍

Menu looked great and reviews looked good as well. <br/>Food was very nice and tasty.<br/>Note to staff when training some one make sure that they repeat what they have written down as we had 4 mistakes with our orders and there was only eight dinners. Plus two of us didn't even receive there mains so that was a bummer. Then we had to wait until new mains came out and then we could order desert so we could eat together. Also not very nice having staff reaching over you while you are eating to fill and already nearly full water bottle. No how was your dinner or did you enjoy the food Yes the food was nice but a little service goes a hell of a long way must have been a bad night.

I was excited to go and eat some southern style food.<br/>Staff were lovely.Food was awful. It was my treat for my sister's birthday. We ordered deep fried chicken and slaw.the chicken was overcooked and rock hard. The slaw was nothing out of the ordinary.<br/>I was left with a coating of fat in my mouth.<br/>Never again<br/>So dissapointing

My partner and I were around the area on a Friday night and Miss Clawdy’s seemed like the best option for food based on the reviews (the restaurants in the Wynyard quarter really need to step up their game huh?). Perhaps it is the best for the area but the food was definitely lacking compared to other restaurants in the CBD. <br/><br/>We ordered a couple tacos and the Jambalaya and it was was not as flavorful as we thought it should have been. Tacos were a bit pricey for portion size but I guess it reflects the area. Jambalaya was definitely pricey for the portion at a whopping $28! And definitely lacking that kick. <br/><br/>Sorry Miss Clawdy’s, we won’t be catching you next time, really lacking some southern soul to your soul food unfortunately.
Vic
Was here tonight with a few friends.<br/><br/>Loved the Calamari Po' Boy! The fish taco was also super tasty and packed a bit of spice.<br/>We also shared some guac but I wasn't too impressed and thought the portion was a bit small for the price point. Also the key lime pie was great but a bit bitter!<br/><br/>The service was great and food came out pretty quickly given how packed the restaurant was. Would come again and paid ~$50 for a drink/po boy/taco and dessert (definitely ordered too much!)
Rae
Was her for a Sunday dinner and it was quiet with only 1 or 2 other tables in the restaurant. Between 3 people we ordered 2 tacos, the Hush Puppies and the Gumbo and the Hurricane Cocktail. The drink was refreshing being very tart and the food was interesting but overall nothing I felt to be exceptional. There was a little bit of spice in the Hush Puppies and Gumbo but it was indistinguishable from other elements in the dish. Very good ambience though.

We came here a few nights ago for dinner and I am absolutely obsessed! <br/>We ordered a beef taco (for me), the Ya Ya Gumbo, fried jerk chicken, blackened market fish, hush puppies, cornbread and a 500ml jug of the Pimms cocktail. <br/>The beef taco was the only disappointing dish of the night, compared to the rest of the dishes it was a bit bland and one dimensional. <br/> The Ya Ya Gumbo was a thick stew and paired perfectly with the cornbread. Full of flavour too. <br/>The hush puppies, a type of croquette, went perfectly with the slightly spicy sauce. <br/>The jerk chicken was tender and perfectly fried and spiced. The mayo was slightly over powering but delicious nevertheless. <br/>The market fish was good, not particularly to my taste though.<br/>The cocktail jug was good value for money, beautifully presented and easy to drink. <br/>Definitely a recommended restaurant and will be back for drinks and more food.

Received a Facebook ad promoting a deal for either a free taco or 2 for 1 fried chicken and figured I had to snap up this deal. Go to the restaurant and it is gorgeous, very cosy and warm with so many cushions. Staff were super lovely and gave us free popcorn to munch on while looking at the menu. There were so many amazing options but ended up choosing a fish taco (from deal), fried chicken, jambalaya and pimms cocktail jug. I’ve always wanted to try jambalaya so I was so stoked to see this on the menu! I’m blown away with how beautiful and unique this food is. The fried chicken was crunchy, tender and succulent. The fish taco was fresh, crisp and juicy. Pimms cocktail is my favourite drink and they nailed it. And lastly the jambalaya was beautiful, so soft, had a wonderful tangy flavour, sausage and prawns complimented the rice perfectly. Overall amazing spot and will be back again soon because I really want to try the gumbo!

Absolutely loved the service here, I think the portions are a bit small HOWEVER food is delicious and full of flavour! Steak cooked to perfection and well seasoned. Recommend the punch
Angela
The vibe in here is very nice and they give you some really good popcorn as a free starter. We tried their donut dessert only - the flavour was there and the texture was nice, I would give it a 5 star but I’d say $14 is a bit pricey for 4 small fried donuts. Look forward to trying the food here though!

What an amazing spot. Really nice location. Best service I’ve ever had, waitress was looking after the whole restaurant and was so lovely and helpful. Really cool interior and vibe, couldn’t help but take a few photos of the awesome looking overhead lights. <br/>The fresh fish with coconut cream, first on the list on the menu really grabbed me, I asked if the fish could be cooked at all, it couldn’t, raw fish worried me a bit as I had never tasted it but the waitress assured me it was delicious. Tried it and loved it. Wanna go back to get more! Boyfriend got the tacos which were also really good! Well priced too, $8 per taco. Cocktail was to DIE for, best cocktail I’ve had and you can get a jug for $27 which I am so going back for.<br/>Will come again! Very impressed! <br/><br/>

The staff were very friendly, table service was efficient and our food came out in minutes upon ordering. The quality of food was amazing! I highly recommend this place if you are in the area and in the mood for Southern American styled cuisine! Keep in mind this place can get busy during conventional dinner hours so make a reservation if dining in with a group of friends or family!
Lizzie
I love this restaurant and have done so for 5 years so it pains me that I have to give such an average review. The only reason for this is during that meal we came across 2 cockroaches which is a big NO NO for restaurants. We found one of the table & one was crawling down my friends leg. When we alerted the waiters of both, they seemed very unconcerned and there was no apology or anything. <br/><br/>The food however was delicious as usual. I love the calamari Po boy in particular and the complimentary popcorn is one of a kind. The service was great in general also.<br/><br/>Had it not been about the cockroaches I would give miss clawdy a 5 star rating so I hope they get an exterminator in and fix this problem as it would put a lot of people off going back!!
Xsteapoon
Waitresses were friendly and while they were busy they were also attentive :) Food was good. Priced right. Will be back again. Favourite thing we tried today was the Jambalaya!!!
Grace C
Atmosphere was pretty and the menu seemed varied and interesting. Service was friendly, too. Drinks were nice and well priced. We ordered four tacos, but we couldn't finish them at all. Pulled pork was stodgy, lukewarm and soaked in grease, to the point it had soaked through the tortilla and made it fall apart. Beef was similar. A fine place, but avoid the tacos!
Amy
The waitress's service was great. Yummy fried chicken. But we think their dessert is too sweet. It's not bad, maybe we don't like sweet desserts.
Holly Southworth
Food was amazing! Cocktail jugs were pretty decent (altho only about 350ml of actual cocktail the rest was ice) it was real value for money very well priced and decent servings perfect for sharing! Unfortunately the service was absolutely horrendous. Virtually no table service, we had to yell out or get up to order food or drinks it was really disappointing and quite annoying. We absolutely loved the food but unfortunately due to the severe lack of service and attendance I don't think we will return

Cute little place & easy to find. Staff greeted us as soon as we arrived and we had water and table snacks provided immediately.<br/>We ordered:<br/>- *side: Baby kumara with the macadamia crumble - this was delicious and will def order again.<br/>- *Po boys: Southern fried calamari & The Cuban. Both fresh & tasty I would definitely eat these again<br/>- *Tacos - Caribbean chicken - was a little dry and I didn’t enjoy this one as much. I was looking forward to the avocado mousse which was yum but the let down apart from the dry chicken was the pineapple salsa which lacked taste<br/><br/>We also had the grilled fish taco - no complaints.<br/><br/>Great atmosphere and decor.<br/><br/>Would def come back and give Miss Clawdys another try.
Joysyb2002
Food fail ... hush puppies, cornbread , fried chicken. What a waste of time and money. Not a good dining experience, service was lackadaisical. Lesson learned, not to rely on food reviews.
Thom
Miss Clawdy is a great place to hang around in. They do good cocktails and I personally just love to dine with share plates. They have good fried chicken, overall I do not find it special however. Their ceviche are hands down one of the most memorable to me, and the pork belly. The popcorn on the table though is absolutely delicious, bold and great seasoning. It has this amazing and comfortable atmosphere to the restaurant that I always would want to come back, and I find the price to be very reasonable.
ZZQ
I was expecting a little bit more based on the reviews but nonetheless it was a reasonably good experience.<br/><br/>A little disappointed that we weren't allowed a bigger table as we were advised that there were bookings, but the restaurant remained fairly empty even as we left. They also did not offer to move the adjacent table next to ours which would have been a good idea at the time. Otherwise the service was prompt and friendly.<br/><br/>The prices are slightly on the high side considering the portion sizes. All dishes were well cooked and had very strong flavours, and personally a little too strong (spicy) for my taste especially the Jambalaya. The Southern Fried Jerk Chicken was quite dry and definitely and perhaps one of the most overpriced items on the menu.<br/><br/>Wouldn't mind coming back but then again there are many options in the Viaduct to explore.

We went there for our first time on 24th October to celebrate my birthday. We were warmly welcomed by the wonderful friendly an approachable staff.<br/>We ordered the pulled pork soft shell taco an the shrimp poboy as entree was so delicious was full of flavour. For our mains we had the jerk chicken along with the Jumbalaya with side of cornbread an spud fries :)the food was so yummo an would recomend u go an order that if your heading into Miss Clawdys...<br/>To end the night we had the cookie sandwhich an beignets which was very yum an a good way to end the night will definately be coming back soon

Tasty, tasty, tasty !<br/><br/>Complimentary popcorn to start which is addictive. <br/>Tacos are tasty , a good little starter that doesn't fill you up too much. <br/>The fried chicken was delicious, perfect crunch on the outside and moist on the inside with a tasty sauce to go along side. <br/><br/>Braised beef ! Have to order every time I go, ya can't go wrong . <br/><br/>Each time I have been there is a new special which I recommend trying as they are always bloody good ! <br/><br/>Good place to go to share food with friends or family. Definitely my favourite way to eat so you get to try a bit of everything . Highly recommend

Suuuper yummy dinner I had the other night with a group of friends. The staff were very welcoming and helpful if our large group. We ordered most things on the menu as there was over 15 of us! I tried the guac, fish tacos, fried chicken and green tea mojito which were all delicious! Only down side is that it was very small portion so make sure to order lots!
Nick The Greek
Very popular , and I can understand why. Good food we had a mix of plates to share the Jumbalaya was great ...as were the tacos a bit spicy but very tasty.
Gemma Dutton
Arrived here as a plan B after a place across the road decided to close early on a quiet Monday night, but our group of 5 were all so glad we ended up here! We shared 4 mains and a couple of sides, with three desserts between us to finish, each and every plate went down a treat - particularly the jerk chicken, gumbo, and vanilla custard beignets. The lovely French waitress who served us was an absolute delight, very friendly and knowledgeable. The table was a little small to seat 5 of us with sharing plates but the place has a welcoming feel and is well decorated. We will definitely be back!
Izabella Pinker
Ordered from here quite a few times off uber eats, their guacamole is AWESOME but could do with a little bit of chilli in there or something just to add a little spice. I always order the jerk spice chicken but the first time I ordered it, it made me vomit. The sauce it comes with is beautiful and tangy it's just a shame my first experience was not a good one.
Eli A
So happy I went there- early Sunday evening, so it was quietish. Service was good- decor was also very nice. Outstanding- free spiced popcorn, the collard greens, the cuban po'boy, the pavé dessert. Food that was disappointing- the shrimp po'boy, jalapeno hush puppies and the beignets. Overall, i am definitely going back :-)

What we thought would be a quick dinner before heading to the city turn out to a great night out. Friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely deco with soft lighting. Nice backdrop. We ordered taco's (chicken & fish) and the fried jerk chicken and Jambalaya for mains. All dishes were very delicious with balanced flavours, arrived quickly considering it was quite busy on a Friday night. Good selection of wine and cocktails. Prices are quite reasonable as well. Highly recommend!

Great atmosphere and staff were very funny. Food was different from anything else near by and really good. I recommend for an after work drinks with friends

great place! yummy food and great service. sat at the front of kitchen and got to watch the food being prepared! plus they make their own popcorns! awsome place!

Amazing place!<br/><br/>So my hubby and I were seated straight away. We started off my drinks and the waitress brought over some yummy popcorn ( so addictive). I had the pear margarita which you can see in the pics which was amazing! I'd def have that again and my hubby had a little creatures.<br/><br/>For starter we both had a taco, mine was the beef brisket and hubby had pulled pork. The taco was so soft and edible and was bursting with flavour. Hubby had the same thoughts.<br/><br/>We then shared the fried jerk chicken and the southern poutine, holy F were they amazing! You want the best fried chicken, go to miss clawdys! If you want to eat proper poutine and not that budget shiz you see at federal st then go to miss clawdys <br/><br/>We arrived at 1pm and were out by 1.30pm ( that's how quick service was)

Decoration and atmosphere are the hints for this place. Food was nice for our first time but does not taste the same for the second time. Cocktails choices are varied and tasty. Portion is quite small and a bit pricey but in general nice experience.
Claire
You can literally feel the southern love in every bite . I'd suggest saving your flights to New Orleans and come and eat here instead because the atmosphere, and the vibe is very southern with a lil bit of chick. I ordered the famous southern fried chicken (2nd pic) and the only close thing that Iv tasted that's close to southern fried chicken is KFC. The chicken here is fresher, tastier, high end version of KFC .The portions look tiny ,but it's quite filling and the sauce on my! I would have just had the sauce by itself. The fried oysters (3rd pic) was alright I'm not a sea food fan really but overall service and atmosphere was amazing .You also get a complimentary popcorn at the start. My only complain was the wine portion. They need to put some southern love in their wines because the wine portion is so small . They don't even put it in a regular wine glass just a glass , it's that tiny, basically with three sips your wine is finished .Save the wine and go for the cocktails instead but overall I enjoyed everything.
Rory B
Billed as Central and South America but mainly seems to be New Orleans.<br/><br/>The service is quick and friendly and a good beer/wine list.<br/><br/>The Cuban sandwich was pulled pork - somewhat different to the one in the movie Chef. <br/><br/>The blackened fish was really good - would have liked a bit more chilli.<br/><br/>Loved the lime pie.<br/><br/>On a good day at an outside table, you can just watch the world go by!

Loved my time here on Saturday night! It was a super busy night, especially because of mothers day. But without a booking, we only had to wait 15 minutes at the bar until we were seated. The waitresses were very attentive, always coming around and filling up our water. I love the popcorn snacks they serve for free! Its probably my favourite popcorn I've ever had. The waitress took ours away when we still had heaps left though, I think to hurry us out as we had finished dinner. My friend had the fried chicken which was amazing, but maybe one more piece and it would have been better value for money- its a bit pricey for what you get. I had the ceviche and could not fault a thing, it was so fresh and tasty and the avocado cream was delicious. Can't wait to come back!

We met some friends up from Wellington here for lunch. They are from USA and Brazil so found it in the Entertainment Book & it was fabulous! Great food, service and atmosphere. Even on a busy Mother's Day the service was excellent, food came quickly and was delicious. The prices were 'up there' but the@ Entertainment Book discount helped.

Sadly our latest visit here (friday 28th april) was a real disappointment, the food lacked any real flavour, the pork taco was soggy, undercooked & included a small amount of shredded pork with something else on top that had no flavour, the squid po boy was also tasteless & undercooked. We have had good experiences here in the past but not this time, the only thing I would rate well was the table staff although the water was filled a little too often. Don't think we will go back again.
James
We really like Miss Clawdy but they appear to have poor kitchen hygiene and do not safely cater to people with allergies/intolerances. Also, on the menu they have labelled several gluten-containing dishes with the "GF" label.<br/>
JenniferJ
Went there for lunch and ordered their famous chicken jerk and jambalaya rice. Both dishes were nice and tasty, but I don't think they are worth what we paid for: $17 for 4 pieces of fried chicken thighs and $28 for the rice.

Miss Clawdy's brings the famous taste of the south right to our back yard! Blackened fish, Jambalaya, Gumbo... the list goes on of their insanely good take on those classic southern dishes. Our pick? Has to be the southern fried jerk chicken.. those spices teamed with the perfect crunch, makes for the perfect fried chicken! <br/><br/>They also have amazing ice cream sandwiches!! House made cookies with your choice ice cream... yuuum!!

The appeal of the meaty, comforting cuisine of Southern USA rendered in a casual chic eatery off trendy sea-side Wynyard Quarter invited us here, as it has done many others. Numerous tables beckoned in the relatively spare hipster-chic interior , despite several others being occupied. Installing ourselves on the outdoor tables which also makes for nice people-watching on the pavement, matters were suitably commenced with an appetizer that you barely see much of - fried green tomatoes. Smartly hedged with manchego cheese, these were handsomely fried discs , topped with a pickled cactus of little consequence. It won't make you wax purple over green tomato but the execution passed muster. A good test of a assiduous kitchen lies in how it can make seemingly forgettable players send the ball sailing. 'Hush Puppy' balls were too heavy to do that - these stodgy cornmeal fritters taxed the teeth too much, had little innate flavour and were paired with a tomato salsa that did nothing for the blend. <br/><br/>We then come to a much-praised offering here - Southern fried jerk chicken. It meets the cut no doubt, with soft meat and a pleasantly flavoursome coating but when my companion mentioned that using dark/leg meat instead of the breast cut would have made for silkier morsels, I couldn't entirely disagree : overall a fine appetizer but not the stuff of cross-city trips. Service was pleasant; 'twas not hard to catch their attention and there were nice bonuses like a generous bowl of complimentary popcorn dusted with a moreish mix. The highlight of our meal was the quietly hearty Ya Ya Gumbo. Chicken , prawn, andouille sausage and even okra were enlisted in this gently satisfying stew, with textural contrasts of corn crumble on top. While not a magnificent stew to drown all your sorrows in, it is a fine warm filler for a wintry evening (despite summer, cool drizzling climes shaded that evening). My companion's unexpectedly early repletion prevented a 'gutsier' exploration of the menu, but a return visit doesn't seem a bad idea.

Went there with my family for a birthday.<br/>We had jambalaya, blackened fish , fried green tomatoes, corn bread , baby kumara .<br/>It was great food , tasty and well presented , service was friendly and attentive .<br/>

I like the decor. Has a lot of character. This place can get really busy and you might have to wait a bit for a table during peak meal times.<br/><br/>The southern fried chicken was crispy. Ceviche lacked flavour in my opinion. I love ceviche and the ceviche here just didn't do it for me. Quite a small portion for the price you pay. The ceviche lacked the acidity and seasoning it needed for a good ceviche.

Went here last week. Good vibes, good food, happy staff. Free bowl of popcorn on entry which was yummy. Food was good but nothing to boast about. Was satisfied but wouldn't run back there in a hurry.

Had an unexpectedly amazing time here on Saturday night. We just wondered by and tried the place on impulse. It was busy and full and the only seats left were at the bar overlooking the kitchen. The lovely chefs were friendly and gave us sneaky recommendations! We tried the jerk chicken (amazing), ceviche, fish taco, chicken taco and the beef. All so delicious. I want to come back to try more things on the menu and the dessert (didn't have space!) Am definitely coming back here!

Finally came here and tried their famous deep fried chicken. Definitely worth every penny and the fame! It appears on a small plate with four good sized pieces and lots of sauce. It does seem a bit spicey but not really, the great thing about the chicken is the crunchy skin doesn't fall off and the chicken isn't greasy or dry. It's absolutely perfect with its own unique flavours.<br/><br/>We also ordered a calamari sandwich which was a bit spicey too but very nice flavour and texture. I do wish it had more sauce as the bread and calamari was quite dry together. <br/><br/>If you go on a sunny da definitely try to sit in the second row seats outside so you get the wind but won't be burnt by the sun. Also they give these unique little bowl of popcorn as a side to eat while waiting for the main dishes. Great service, will definitely be back again.

We know you've probably heard of this place at Wynyard Quarter before. Serving Central & South American cuisine, Miss Clawdy's had a heaving crowd even since its opening and our 2 cents will only be a drop in the ocean of glowing reviews. Today's a little different though — following the Thanksgiving festivities, they've struck a deal no Aucklander could say no to - bring in two canned foods and they'll serve you up with a slice of their Whittaker's Chocolate Tart! All of these cans were donated to the Auckland City Mission. Pretty clever to follow up with it after the Whittaker's Chocolypse. What can we say… our plates inspired squealing from our inner chocoholics, neighbouring tables as well as our arteries… keep the good comin' Miss Clawdy - we won't stop till we can't see our toes.<br/><br/>Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/miss-clawdy-nov-2014

Excellent tapas-style menu. Go with a big group and order one of everything (or two). Beef short ribs were particularly amazing. Good Mint Julep (if a little on the strong side)

We went to Miss Clawdy after spying some delights on Instagram. The restaurant has super cool vibes and is in the fabulous Wynyard quarter. We opted for guacamole and a pulled pork taco to start, id skip the taco next time, it just needed a little more flavour although it was perfectly cooked. <br/>For mains we went for jambalaya which was the best thing we ordered along with the fried chicken (which was quite powdery if I'm honest.)<br/>The jugs of cocktails are very good, I'd highly recommend the traditional cherry lemonade! So so good! <br/>Overall, better than average and service with a smile.

unlike Orleans at Britomart, this is more refined south American food.  very tasty, full of flavor. service is good. although restaurant is a bit space restricted.  not a lot of room to swing a cat :O)
Denise
Snotty rude waitress. Rolling her eyes! I wasn't too sure what I wanted to order. Obviously the waitress was not interested in the slightest and obviously wanted to be elsewhere like myself. <br/>Food was okay. <br/>Too many other eateries out there to try. So won't be back. <br/>
Jessica
So many yummy options to choose from here! I would suggest just going with a group of people so you can try one of everything on the menu cause it's so hard to only choose one thing to eat! I personally have tired the ceviche, grilled fish taco & key lime pie and for a drink I had the old fashioned cherry lemonade. I will defiantly be coming back in the summer time to sit outside with a few friends and make my way through the menu.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Great looking bar cum restaurant with a menu offering southern soul food including tacos, jumbo and jerk chicken. We perched ourselves at one of the high top tables outside to enjoy the sunshine and ceviche. Service is fast and friendly and the food is worth coming back for.

When I came here for the first time in 2014, I absolutely loved the fried jerk chicken and the sauce that came with it. Two years later, I’m glad to see that they didn’t mess with a good thing; it was just as juicy and flavourful as I remember. This dish comes in four decently sized pieces, so it’s good for sharing.<br/><br/>While I’ve been warned that some of their dishes are a bit hit-and-miss – like the steak and the jambalaya – everything we ordered happened to be delicious. (Heck, even the free starter of kettle corn popcorn was strangely addictive.) The Yaya Gumbo is a must-try classic featuring prawn, chicken, sausage, okra, and capsicum. It has a bit of a kick, but you get used to it. We also loved the blackened market fish, which (surprisingly) tasted reminiscent of Chinese-style fish dishes. <br/><br/>With nice food, nice people and nice vibes, it’s not hard to see why Miss Clawdy is so popular on most nights. Definitely one of my favourites in this part of town.

'Miss Average Joe' <br/>After stumbling upon this place weeks ago we've wanted to check it out. Midweek it was easy to find a table and we were greeted by a pleasant waitress. We ordered chicken, fish and beef tacos, southern fried chicken and slaw. <br/>The food came out well timed, we didn't have to wait long at all. When it arrived we were underwhelmed, the tacos were bland, needed seasoning - they were also warm, temperature could have been better. The chicken was dry (thankfully it came with a spiced Mayo) and the slaw was super tasteless. <br/>Unfortunately we didn't get a good check to feedback to the kitchen and we ended up paying and leaving.<br/>Will check this place out again in a month and see if things change for us. <br/>

A great Latin American restaurant with great ambiance & good music.Had to wait 5-10 minutes to get a table as it was a Friday night. (They don't take phone bookings :(  ) . Staff was friendly but had to wait for more than 20 minutes to get the food we ordered.<br/><br/>We ordered,<br/>Southern Jerk Fried Chicken : 100+ times better than KFC. Crispy outside & juicy ,moist inside<br/>Sirloin Steak with Chimichrri : Steak was conked to perfection. Chimichurri was not the best I've tasted but Ok.<br/>Jambalaya :  Delicious. Generous potion.<br/>(And their complementary pop-cones were so flavorful too )

great little spot.. cosy and warm inside..<br/><br/>iv been wanting to try some<br/>american soul food for a while..<br/><br/>we ordered jerk chicken, 2x popcorn shrimp Po boys, fish taco, corn bread and pecan pie with salted caramel ice cream.. i really enjoyed the po boy which is why i ordered a second one lol .. my husband ate most of the jerk chicken.. he enjoyed that and my daughter demolished the pecan pie all by herself .. the corn bread really reminded me of nans savoury scones which i didn't mind and the fish taco was quite small .. overall though it was nice and came out super fast considering there was quite a few people there .. the complimentary popcorn my husband also loved .. will be back to try shrimp and grits, lime key pie and gumbo..

GET THE FRIED CHICKEN! It is A M A Z I N G! <br/>Been here several times and the service and quality of food is fantastic. Great place to catch up with friends and have a great night

Came here on Saturday night. Have been before for lunch. Food was quite bland and service was just ok. had tacos and Fried chicken which was nice and crispy but not spicy enough. Good cornbread
Fiona
Love this place, it's beautifully decorated, the food never fails to impress and live up to its hype. Even the complimentary popcorn is divine. The music selection is just utterly tasteful and really amplifies the whole 'soul food' experience !

I was out for an afternoon of catching up with some friends and decided that we go for dinner since we were around the Silo Park area. <br/><br/>We decided to go and come here. The ambience gives off a somewhat authentic vibe. I like the naked hanging bulbs on the ceiling. The crew were very much accommodating as well. <br/><br/>So we went and order pulled pork and chicken tacos, Southern jerked fried chicken and some chips. <br/><br/>All of the food were lovely and delicious most especially the fried chicken. It was cooked perfectly, crunchy yet soft and juicy. It may be a bit pricey but it's definitely a nice place for after work drinks.

■ Beautiful Interior<br/>■ Great presentation<br/>■ Lovely service<br/>■ Best fried chicken<br/><br/>I got to celebrate my birthday here with my friends last weekend! We came here for lunch and I had such a wonderful time. Miss Clawdy is a popular hot spot at Wynyard Quarter and it's been on my Foodie Wishlist for sooo long! So I was thrilled to have finally tried it out. Because this place designs their menu for groups, I arranged a set menu for us with their most popular dishes because we were all newbies and didn't know ourselves around the menu too well. The food here is Latin American and the interior is so incredible and unique!! Trying out various types of soul food in a cosy interior beneath warm, wooden lanterns was definitely something special and out of the ordinary.<br/><br/>For starters they served us all this complimentary free popcorn that had this amazingly weird flavour that Ive never had before but was still really nice! It was like a savoury version of Kettlecorn? I dunno, but it was goood. Between our big group, we then tried out the Ceviche, Jumbalaya, Sirloin Steak, the Corn Hushpuppies, Fries, Cornbread, the Miss Clawdy coleslaw and their popular Southern Jerk Fried Chicken. My favourite from the lot would be the Jumbalaya and the fried Chicken. The Jumbalaya may be quite spicy for most but I loved it coz it balanced the lighter flavours from the rest of the dishes. The fried chicken was a clear winner across the table! When you pair with the Salsa they give you, its tastes so frikkin good! We loved mixing and matching between the different dishes.<br/><br/>The servers in charge of our table were so polite and friendly and happily explained all the dishes to us and made our experience a special one. After our tasty meals, while we were all chatting away, the staff all began singing happy bday hahaha. It was soo cute! We all had so much fun at our first time in Miss Clawdy and will definitely be back!! Thank you so much for the amaaazing service!

Such a lovely place with good service. Staff are very friendly and helpful. This is one of the place where you can enjoy a great dining experience with a good price too.
Andrea
If you guys didnt charge a $15 cake fee for us to bring my mum's birthday cake we would have gone there today. But instead I had to cancel and we went to North Park instead. I have been to Miss Clawdys twice and loved your food - I always get your ceviche! I was excited to take my mum there because she loves latin american cuisine so I was sad to cancel our lunch reservations. I understand you are only trying to make a business but $15 to BYO cake is a lot. Just saying.

Came here with my family. Very stylish place with that southern vibe to it. Nice place to come dine in or have a few. The service is really good, friendly and helpful staff. Our food was served at the right time - not fast or slow.<br/>The Jambalaya was our favourite, full of flavours, and the rice was not soggy or soupy. Absolutely loved the braised beef, it fell off the bone which is a goodie.<br/><br/>Overall would definitely come back for Jambalaya 🤗😀<br/><br/>I give Miss Clawdy a four because the food wasn't amazing but sufficient and worth our money.

Two of us had a long lunch there yesterday<br/>The decor and service were superb<br/>We had various shared plates<br/>The quality was overall a little disappointing<br/>Perhaps my expectations were too high<br/>I had been to New Orleans about 2 years ago<br/>We tried the tacos and the Cuban Po-Boy<br/>Excellent<br/>Then the Shrimp with grits - not my thing<br/>Then the Jambalaya and the Guajillo Pork Belly<br/>I loved both<br/>Corn & Jalapeno Hush Puppies -Ok<br/>A nice Pacifico beer and Trinity Hill Sauv Blanc followed by Monte Carlos and port<br/>A very nice lunch indeed<br/>If you are that way inclined (Creole/Cajun food) TRY IT

We dined here for my Birthday last night & I am so glad we did.  Not only was the service prompt, our food was delicious, the waitresses had great product knowledge & were very patient with our table who took a while to decide on what to order.  The kitchen staff looked relaxed, the bar staff were very prompt & patient with us & the staff appeared to enjoy their job; which is great to see. The décor & atmosphere was nice, everything was clean, the staff were constantly keeping busy & clearing tables, topping up drinks & ensuring we were happy.  We will definitely be returning to Miss Clawdy's again.  I would recommend picking different dishes from the menu & sharing amongst your table. The Key Lime Pie is beautiful & the dish I would most likely recommend would be the Ceviche - Divine ;)

Went on a Friday night after work, not too busy or overcrowded which was good! Vibes were great! Music was good and service was perfect. I ordered a plate of southern fried jerk chicken 😍 must have! Also had a pulled beef taco, was good but I found myself pouring hot sauce for some flavor? Our group ordered probably all the sides on the menu which were all so good! I had the miss clawdy punch cocktail 😍😍 make sure you give it a good stir so the flavors and alcohol blend 😆 highly recommend for group of friends and family or with that special someone. Good vibes, good food with good company 😆

Dined here tonight. I had been wanting to dine here for ages. I had seen and heard such great things so I was super keen but I was a little disappointed. It was a relatively quiet night out at Wynyard Quarter but Miss Clawdys was buzzing. We were greeted & got a table straight away, the staff were all excellent & the ambience & decor is awesome. I ordered an old fashioned cherry lemonade cocktail which was absolutely horrible. I'm not sure if I was given the wrong drink or what, but the glass was tiny & the drink was soo strong it burnt my throat when I took a sip like drinking straight liquor. I would much rather have had a taller glass with more lemonade or non alcoholic substance to balance it out more. I know this is a bit of a rant but when your charged $17 for a drink you couldn't drink it's a bit of a waste. Anywaaay onto the food we had corn bread, fries, jerk chicken & sirloin steak. The corn bread I loved. The fries were yummy & the chicken was delicious. The steak was well cooked but very bland it literally had no flavour without the chimichuri which had quite an earthy unpleasant taste. Overall it was a bit hit & miss & was defo below my expectations. I probably won't return.

Thanks miss clawdy. I had my 30th birthday dinner there. We booked the private room and had 26 people come. The staff were really nice and organised. No one had to wait to order drinks - as soon as people arrived, they were waited on by the staff. The food was really yummy and authentic. The atmosphere was really nice and welcoming and I know everyone enjoyed their meals.

One of my favourite place down the waterfront.<br/><br/>Came here for our wedding anniversary, the interior decoration was just so beautiful and unique. <br/><br/>Great selection of food, the staffs also give good recommendations. The beef short ribs were super tender and the BBQ sauce was just perfect. Also really enjoyed the fried jerk chickens served with chipotle & lime mayo. <br/>However the standout dish was definitely the cinnamon beignets,  crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Dipped in the butterscotch sauce (tasted strongly of alcohol - just the way I like it!) it was absolute heaven.<br/><br/>A must visit!

Came here for dinner with mates and visited again for some desserts. Ambiance is wonderful really "chill" vibe and nice decor. Food wise simple menu (American country style with little Mexican) ordered tacos and gumbo, tacos were average (not amazing not too bad either) the portion is very small so it's more like bite size you'll need to order two tacos to get full. Gumbo hmm I'm not a fan but others might like it. The best part is their dessert menu (not much choices) but quality and flavours are on the spot! Overall it's a nice place if you want to have chilled drinks and some nibbles to wind down.

Awesome setting and I managed to miss the lunch rush hour, so had great and prompt service. The fish taco was OK but the fried chicken was fantastic. Next time I'll try some of their other dishes.

Great food, great beer, friendly staff and a refreshingly unusual decor., great music...and That 'while-you-wait' popcorn was delish too. Will definitely return!
Sam
Service, décor etc were faultless...the food though was just, good. Nothing spectacular, just pretty good. Jambalaya had only 3 prawns which I thought was pretty stingy. Still tasty, but you just get that feeling of it being a tad pricy for what you get.

We visited here on a Sunday, thinking that it would be quite busy, we were wrong. We were seated inside straight away. I had to ask for the kids meals, and we were then left to make our decision.. <br/><br/>I found the waitress very hard to understand and she was very quietly spoken as well. <br/><br/>We weren't told that the best way to order was to order to share. I wish we'd known this earlier. Our food arrived in good time and it was great. Nice and hot and very tasty. My husband had Jambalaya and I had the Jerk chicken. The kids had Popcorn chicken and chunky fries, which were very nice. Although the Corn Bread was a little dry (almost like it was from the day before). Desserts for the adults were extremely good. <br/><br/>I was really disappointed in the kids desserts. They weren't even a full scoop (more like half scoop drowned in chocolate sauce).

Each time I've been here hasn't lived up to my first time, however my review is based (mostly) on that first visit. Let me start off with the complimentary popcorn starter which is so good we asked for refills twice! I tasted cumin among other spices along with orange oil I believe. My favourite is the braised beef short rib which is just falling off the bone accompanied perfectly with bourbon bbq sauce. The southern jerk fried chicken had a decent portion with tasty dipping sauces. I really loved the kumara which has macadamia crumble and orange oil, it was so decadent I almost felt like I didn't deserve it. Hush puppies are nice and soft on the inside and really filling. Corn bread is also very nice although I wasn't a fan of the jambalaya. The desserts were a bit basic and kind of a let down but then again I could have been biased with a full stomach. Major letdown is the staff, you'd be lucky if you get the one nice person working there but the rest who act liked you've bothered them with your presence which is why I haven't bothered to go back. <br/>

I visited this popular Wynyard Quarter haunt with work colleagues on a Thursday night. We ordered a range of dishes to share, and I personally had the chance to try the Miss Clawdy Slaw, a PO Boy (The Cuban), and the Jambalaya with prawns, chicken, andouille sausage, mixed veg and creole butter. The slaw wasn;t particularly flavoursome and could have done with a nicer dressing. The PO Boy was rather filling and a couple of these and you wouldn't be able to eat anything more - I recommend that you try at least one. The Jambalaya was nice, but didn't stand out as being anything special. The service was attentive and friendly, especially considering we were a large group, and staff were quick at attending to empty glasses of water and wine.

Great ambience and atmosphere for friend gathering. The service is great, staffs r very attentive. The food isn't that amazing and doesn't have wow factor.
Kevin Pollard
Had a couple of beers and snacks. Great times!!! 2nd time we've been here and enjoyed the experience. Had jambalaya and my wife had gumbo last visit. Very nice. Will head here whenever we are at Wynyard quarter. Gets v busy tho

We had a great time at this restaurant. It was our first experience and recommended by my daughter. For starters we had sliders of prawn and calimari and as there were four of us we ordered twice and shared. For the main course we each ordered what we wanted and shared. This made for a great evening and lead to stimulating conversation. The staff were great and very attentive serving our wines and beers as and when needed and not over the top. This restaurant is on our must do again list

Date night with my lovely hubby at this nice pub / restaurant /just-one-good-hang-out-place. <br/>Ordered a few drinks & 2 small dishes to share in a friendly-staff place. One is as the photo raw fish salad & BEEF RIBS ... (yes beef ribs!!! not easy to find )<br/>A place that is not flooded with students/tourists/Bogans/drunk butt .... a place with a lot of professional around and this is the true auckland

Fantastic place! The food was very tasty and so fresh. The service was great, especially the friendly male bartender who went out of his way to be extra helpful. An overall lovely experience.

Been here many times over the last 2 years and I am happy every single time. Food is awesome, atmosphere is great and the staff are all very chatty and lovely. <br/><br/>Shrimp Po boy and the jerk chicken are the things to try for me, but pretty much everything I have had there has been great. You can't book, which can make it hard to get a table on busy nights, but from someone who is typically a bit impatient, the wait is 100% worth it.
Kelly
I've always wanted to give this place a try and I'm glad I did!<br/><br/>Staff are friendly, polite and attentive. Upon being seating we were offered some seasoned popcorn that was seriously so good! 😍<br/> We ordered the Ya Ya Gumbo and Fried Chicken and a Pims cup along with a Miss Clawdy cocktail. <br/> Wow let me say that the gumbo is absolutely delicious! So hearty and full of flavour, generous servings of meat and vegetables. . It was seriously so yummy. Next time I come I will definitely get the gumbo again along with some corn bread to dip into the gumbo! Highly recommend the gumbo!<br/><br/> The chicken was good, beautifully flavoured, crispy, and moist meat. I didn't particularly like the dip that came with the chicken, I instead dipped the chicken in my gumbo (can you tell I really loved my gumbo?!) 😁<br/><br/> The cocktails were good, full of alcohol haha. <br/> The decor here is very modern, rather dark but it sets the mood hehe. <br/><br/> I'd highly recommend the Ya Ya Gumbo, I'll definitely be back to devour it again 😍

Had been to Miss Clawdy before but it had been a while so was great to meet friends here for lunch & check it out again.<br/>Miss Clawdy is underneath the ASB building at Wynyard Qtr & has a nice mix of indoor/outdoor seating. The kitchen is open as with many places these days which is great to see.<br/>I have tried most of the menu in the past and faves are the steak, jambalaya & chicken. Everything is overall quite good though.<br/>They serve you a free bowl of popcorn when you arrive - really tasty with a kind of sweetened cinnamon seasoning. Yum! <br/>Today we had two of the tacos - pulled pork & the chicken & corn. Both are around $7.50, & 2 are a good size lunch for one person. Tasty fresh flavours. Also the calamari Po-boy which is like a bread roll. Again nice & tasty. The chicken has a crispy coating & comes with lemon & a mayo. One of the nicer ones I've tried seasoning wise (Mexico's version has much less flavour). The corn bread was our final dish which comes with a type of chilli oil/vinegar. Nice, fresh & flavourful for cornbread. Really happy with our dishes today.<br/>Drinks wise we had the sour lemon - a kind of home style soft drink.<br/>Service was good today too - friendly & knowledgable. Quite attentive even as they got busy. Good to know that their standards for food & service are still consistent.
Christian
I went there only for some light snacks and some drinks so my review might not reflect its quality of dinner. It's great to sit outside on a hot summer afternoon watching the crowd passing by. Food was OK nothing too exciting though.
Trish
Took the inlaws here for dinner, they really enjoyed it. Think the winners on the night was Ceviche, it was so fresh, then the key lime pie, all plates were emptied. The only disappointment was the clawdy slaw, not sure what happened but this time it was too oily. Generally it is crisp and refreshing. Overall a great night. Will definitely return.
Squigglebee
Unfortunately a little average for me my first time going there. The chunky chips are nice but very very basic, the aioli however was yummy. My jerk fried chicken also came with the most amazing chipotle and lime mayo sauce but the chicken was very very dry, made my throat all itchy and scratchy. My friends Ceviche though was delicious! Came with some nice corn chips. Unfortunately I may be doubtful to return as my $17 main for four small pieces of chicken with no salad was a little sad. However, the staff were awesome! Great atmosphere :)

Went here for dinner on Sunday and I must say it wasn't amazing. The restaurant itself is really cool, nice furniture, open kitchen and you can even book a private dining area. <br/><br/>The service is really good too, our waitress was really lovely and attentive. We weren't the most decisive people but she helped us with the menu which was great!<br/><br/>The cocktail I had "the hurricane" was delicious, my friends enjoyed there's as well. Only thing was they took quite a long time to come out. Most of our food was on the table before they arrived. <br/><br/>Speaking of the food, I was very unimpressed. We got a bunch of things to share like the fish and pork tacos, jerk chicken, the street fries, and a Po Boy. The fish taco only had a tiny piece of fish on it and not a lot of flavour and the jerk chicken was so dry you had to drown it in the sauce. <br/><br/>Honestly I wouldn't come back again because there is so many different places to go in that area.
ShoRt
Would definitely come here for the casual atmosphere, great decor, and friendly service. <br/>Order a few pitchers of pretty looking cocktails, have some southern fried chicken or ribs, finish with some yummy dessert - I'm a happy chappy. <br/><br/>The ambience definitely makes the place. <br/><br/>Great for both lunches or dinners!
Natasha
Literally only come here for the chicken!! Have tried the cornbread and hush puppies and found both quite dry. <br/>The pork po boy is nice.<br/>The chicken is the only reason why I'd be back here in the future.

Came here today to celebrate a friends 21st. The lady who served us was super nice and it was super quiet at the restaurant, food came out quick. Overall the dining experience was great but for me the food is nothing wow or I would go out of my way to try! Joy Shi Annewenttoyourplace

Service was disappointing. Our waitress spent half the night repeatedly coming up to our table and asking to take plates (even plates of foods we were clearly still eating from) away with an impatient look on her face. It was seriously uncomfortable feeling like we weren't even allowed to finish our food or have some light banter over a few drinks without her feeling the need to try kick us out when, a) the place wasn't busy at the time, and b) we weren't even there for long.
Monique
I brought my Mum here for her birthday and we were excited to try the food at Miss Clawdy. Unfortunately, we did not have an enjoyable experience. When we entered the restaurant we were not greeted with a smile or any warmth whatsoever from one of the waitresses. We were then seated and she took a very long time to come back to take our drink order. Still no smile from her, she was very surly and looked like she hated her job. <br/><br/>We ordered a margarita jug which had both pear and cactus. I made a bit of a mess on the table when I tried to pour the drink into glasses, as there was a huge clump of ice. My mum got a fork to try to break up the ice. The drink itself didn't really taste like anything, just a plain margarita....you couldn't taste the pear at all. <br/><br/>Next we ordered the jambalaya and the fried jerk chicken. The jambalaya was ok, but the chicken was bland. Where was the jerk seasoning?! It was just plain fried chicken. <br/><br/>For dessert we ordered the key lime pie. This is one of my favourite pies of all time, and I have lived in the USA for 3 years which is where I was introduced to it. Anyone who has had key lime pie knows that it has a crispy base, made with graham crackers or digestive biscuits. The filling is lime juice, lime zest, mixed with condensed milk and egg yolks. I don't know what they did to the pie they serve at Miss Clawdy, but it was BAD. So bad we decided to send it back as we couldn't eat it. The pie crust was not crunchy, it was like a soft crust that you would get with a cherry pie (for example). The filling was the worst part....I don't know what was in there, but it was most definitely not the key lime filling I know and love. It tasted really disgusting. <br/><br/>Don't get me wrong, I am not a fussy person. I just wanted a delicious dinner for my mum to enjoy and remember for her birthday. The only positive part of this was the friendly young waiter which took over our table when we'd ordered the drinks. He said he was on a working holiday from the Netherlands and we had a nice chat with him. Aside from that, our night was very disappointing.
Jessica Britten
I highly recommend Miss Clawdy... the atmosphere is relaxed, the restaurant is beautiful, staff were fantastic and the food left me wanting more! We had lots of dishes to share which was great as I wanted to try everything. Looking forward to dining there again already.

Worth the visit for the fried chicken and a pitcher of cocktail. Went for lunch on a rainy Sunday and the place was busy with a great atmosphere

Went to Miss Clawdy's with a group of family and friends for dinner and we all left the restaurant extremely disappointed and frustrated to say the least. For starters the drink I ordered never came even after asking twice! The famous jerk chicken we ordered to share never came out...we had finished all our dishes...still no chicken. But the best part was...after biting into the cookie/ice cream sandwich and pulling out a strand of hair, we pointed this out to the waitress (with hair evidently baked into the mix) and her reply was "Oh that's strange, none of our chefs have long hair." Are u kidding me!?!? Having experienced all the above, we were all fuming. We asked to speak to the manager and after waiting a good 5 minutes...still no manager! Blood boiling and all, we decided to just leave. To top it off they tried to charge us for the "hairy" ice cream sandwich. No freaking way! This was by far one of the worst service I've ever experienced. Your wait team and night shift manager have clearly let down your establishment. I have no intention of EVER returning to Miss Clawdy's

Nice place for a casual night out. Food was yummy, atmosphere was relaxed. Only the bad part of the night was the waitress keep cleaning the table and collecting plates before I even finished my food. The rush made me felt like they were in a hurry to ask me out. A little uncomfortable. All in all, a good place to go.

Beautiful decor, average service, okay food.<br/><br/>Went there for a work lunch. We ordered starters off of their sides menu, which were yummy. The waiter forgot to bring the calamari we ordered, but we weren't charged for it at the end.<br/><br/>Mains were touch and go. I ordered the beef and pork tacos, which were delicious - I'd get them again. My co-worker ordered the deep fried, crumbed chicken chicken, which he said was delicious. I tasted the ribs, which were ordered by another person at our table - they were bland, and not very flavoursome. Another person ordered their steak, which he didn't like at all, saying it was chewy and not very tasty.<br/><br/>All in all, I'd go again for drinks and tacos - it's a nice environment on the harbour.

I honestly wish I could give negative stars to that hideous place where every staff member has a mix of amnesia ,dementia and straightforwardly lying to your face.i would avoid this place even if it was the only bombshelter during the Nuclear war with North Korea.<br/>We were the party of eight on Friday night couple of weeks ago and honestly all of us felt that our night have been completely ruined.if I have won million dollars in casino that night I'd still have that anger and shock that this place left me with.dont get me wrong -i am not a wingey type .i am from Russia where we don't have service culture at all.so I'm quite forgiving.this place served us worse than freaking dumpling house in the middle of Siberia.<br/>First- we got a 35 cm long hair in "happy birthday cookie and ice cream" which my partner unintentionally flossed her teeth with.R U BLOODY KIDDING ME miss Clawdy!!!???<br/><br/>Secondly-all our drinks order came out wrong.my partner order a jug of margarita-instead received a tiny glass.we requested a waiter to replace the drink but she never bothered.after 2 reminders she still did not come to us with the right one.<br/>Thirdly-we had to constantly remind about the appetisers as half of our group has already finished theirs whereas the rest were not even served.<br/><br/>Thirdly(!)-Our mains NEVER CAME.like really never .i had to leave my guys and tell waiter to cancel the order .Guess what ?it was not even put trough.what a waste of our time.we requested to see the manager.should I tell that the guy did not have any bloody guts to appear???what a joke!!!<br/>I saw waitress speaking with manager (a tall skinny white guy with the beard) and pointing at us but guy just left off.seriously man u r shame.<br/><br/>When we came to him and told him what has happened straight to his face he started to lie saying that no one told him about us (bullshit. We all saw).then he started to blame his staff saying it was the first day at job for our waitress.we were served by 3 of them that night.did you bulk hire them dude?<br/><br/>It was a big night for us.my partner had birthday (I guess the hair was intended as some sort of gift?),our friend (who made a booking) proudly became a Chartered Accountant ,and we got our friends visiting us from Fiji.Well done miss Clawdy you made this night unforgettable .<br/><br/><br/><br/>

This place is the bees knees 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 I can't recommend miss clawdys highly enough. Great food great ambience great everything

Pretty good location for Miss Clawdy but fell a bit squeezed inside. The fired chicken is good with sauce. The corn bread is bit over toasted and not recommend for people who doesn't like spicy.

Ambiance was great , food was just average. Pretty disappointed with the beignets tho wasn't as good as I expected them to be( Ive tried ones before from New Orleans) I'd rather recommend the key lime pie.

Great relaxing spot near the Viaduct for a tasty lunch or dinner. We were lucky to get an outdoor table to soak up the rays with our delicious lunch. Our server was efficient and food came fast. I liked the complementary popcorn - seasoned with savoury and sweet spices, this was a great start to our meal.<br/><br/>I started off with the pulled pork taco - the soft shell taco was warm and had a good amount of pulled pork that fell apart. The green apple and pickled cabbage slaw added a nice freshness to the taco.<br/><br/>Two must haves at Miss Clawdy's are the fried jerk chicken and the pork belly. The chicken was crispy and the chipotle and lime mayo was the perfect dipping sauce, creamy but not too rich.<br/><br/>The pork belly crackling was crispy. The squash and apple puree added a nice sweetness, complementing the tender meat.<br/><br/>The corn bread had jalapeno slices with chilli oil dip on the side. I didn't enjoy because I can't take spice well but those who could really liked it.<br/><br/>The portions are meant to be shared - dishes we had were split into 3 portions. For the price point, it was quite expensive but it's characteristic of restaurants in the Viaduct area.

Came here on a Saturday night and was lucky enough to get a table for 9 people. We ordered a fish taco, guacamole, corn bread with chilli oil, the beef short rib w bourbon bbq sauce, guajillo braised pork belly, mixed green beans & green olive salad with a butternut squash & apple puree, and for desert we ordered the vanilla custard beignets. <br/>My favourites were the guacamole with corn chips, the fish taco and the pork belly.<br/>The pork belly was the stand out dish for me, the pork was perfectly tender and the crackling was crispy and delicious. <br/>I think the short ribs may have been better if they bbq'ed it. I will definitely be back to try more dishes!

Popped in for a late Saturday lunch for 2 on a beautifully sunny day at Wynyard Quarter. Had the Jambalaya and Pork Belly as shared mains with a side of crumbed kumara. Couldn't fault it!!! Fabulous flavours abound. Washed down with a couple of glasses of rose and a couple of Little Creatures Pale Ale beers. All up $110 for a wonderful lunch for 2 - and worth every penny! Oh - and the service was top knotch too.

Went to Miss Clawdy for an early dinner on a sunny day. The interior was nicely decorated and very Christmassy. Staff served us promptly and we ordered a steak and the jambalaya and the Cuban Po boy. The Po boy was so delicious!
Cindy Wu
Went to Miss Clawdy a couple of times and they never disappoints!<br/>Our cocktails were absolutely and refreshingly delicious.<br/>We also ordered their fried chicken, gumbo, Jambalaya, and pork belly. They all pack a punch full of spices and flavours, especially the Jambalaya, incredibly fragrant and very moreish.<br/>Overall, the atmosphere is always buzzing, the staff are always smiling, friendly and very attentive, will definitely be back next time!

Finally got to try this place for the first time the other night! We had a table of around 10 of us dining there and for a Saturday night I was impressed with how they seated us with ease and no drama or fuss. The waiter we had was lovely and he made the night lots of fun. The service is very fast - almost too fast because by the time you sit down they are already asking what drinks you would like! The cocktails are pricey for the alcohol content you actually receive in them, but who cares when they are THAT delicious 😍. I am very spice intolerant so I was quite worried about trying anything off the menu but they had a few things which I could eat, I would highly recommend the 200gram sirloin with chimichurri mmmmmm 💕 they know how to cook a steak here! The pulled pork tacos were delish as well. The location is awesome and not too difficult to find either! Only downside is the cookies and milk dessert is an extreme let down 😞 $8 for two baby sized biscuits and a half scoop of ice cream with some vanilla milk..... I think not 😑. Aside from that this place is the bom dot com 😎

I decided to try Miss Clawdy last week as my sister was constantly nagging me to go.<br/><br/>The vibe was fantastic and all the tables were booked out. The music was great and it was a lovely place to walk into.<br/><br/>Unfortunately the food was not as good.<br/><br/>We started with Hush Puppies (jalapeno) which were quite burnt and super dry. If it wasn't for the sauce on the side they would have been quite inedible. <br/><br/>The Jerk Chicken was however delicious and the Chipotle and Lime sauce complemented it perfectly.<br/><br/>The Jambalaya was what i was really keen on trying and had really high expectations for. Unfortunately i found it rather bland and tasted a bit like rice in a watered down tomato soup. <br/><br/>Overall for the pricing i didn't find it quite worth the money in terms of food. If you're out for a good atmosphere it delivered on that.
Travels4Food
The fried chicken was average. Tasty but not very tender and juicy, the aioli sauce that went with it was good. Not as good as Orleans fried chicken. The guacamole is good but the chips that went with it isn't very exciting. The fish taco is average. Fish is slightly bitter and does not have enough moisture or sauce. End up adding my own guacamole and aioli sauce.

Went here on a date night and my husband and I really liked it! Except for 2 minor details, our overall dinner was very good. Love the decor, the lights especially! The complimentary popcorn they serve you as soon as you sit down is a nice touch. Very unique flavour, kind of cinnamony! We had the tortilla chips and guacamole, a calamari po'boy, jerk chicken and beignets for dessert. While we were impressed that they fried their own chips rather than serve store bought, the chips had a lot of grease on them like they hadn't been drained on something absorbent. But that was just a minor hiccup, they tasted great and although I'm not a fan, the guacamole was really good. The po'boy was delicious, crispy calamari in a soft roll, no complaints there! The jerk chicken looked so good, we couldn't wait to dive in. They were really crispy and delicious. You get quite a good amount for how much you pay. My only gripe was that it was missing salt. Hopefully it was just that day because that is one thing I am likely to return for over and over. Finally, dessert! I'd read many reviews and was really looking forward to tasting the beignets, but unfortunately they were the disappointment of the night for me. We chose the ones with the vanilla custard filling and they looked so good when they arrived at the table, under a generous dusting of powdered sugar. They beignets themselves were yummy but the custard was almost nowhere to be found. The part that I did taste with the custard was really good, I just wish there had been more of it. Overall I really like Miss Clawdy, the staff is very friendly, service and food were good and the price is very reasonable. I hope the beignets are better the next time around though because I will definitely be back.

I loved the southern kind of vibe that Miss Clawdy offers. The music and decor is really different to any other place I had been before!<br/><br/>The chicken here is some of the best I've had...it's so amazing. I loved the aioli sauce it came with, was delicious. I also loved how there's Cajun flavoured popcorn on offer as soon as you sit down! <br/><br/>I had the pulled pork Po Boy, it was tasty and the pork was falling to pieces which is just what you want. It was alright! <br/><br/>The service was pretty dull however. I think it would've killed our waiter to smile, he was pretty unenthused. <br/><br/>Unsure if I would come again, probably wouldn't be my first choice!
Benedict Uy
Best way to eat is have everybody order something and then share what comes. The Po boy was really nice, good sauce with nicely made bread. The fried chicken was nice but not as spicy as I thought it would be. The beef rib was really nice. The okra hushpuppy was something different, nice flavour and an okra texture. The milk and cookie dessert was nice but the beignet was better.<br/> The key lime pie was too tart for me.<br/><br/>Nice service and they only take bookings for large (10+) groups.
Janice Zumba
Delicious plates to share. We had the jerk chicken, jambalaya (a bit too salty but the sour taste from the fresh lemon made it a bit better), fries and calamari. They were all great and the flavours didn't clash. Customer service was awesome and they explained how everything worked without droning on about it. Waiters and waitresses were attentive without being intrusive. It's definitely a place that I would return to.
Manic Diner
Had dessert here with friends today. My friends ordered the orange and chocolate pave while I tried their beignet with vanilla custard filling. We loved their desserts although I think my beignet could have done with 20 seconds less in the fryer . It was yummy though and my friends raved about their desserts. Will be back to try their jerk chicken which I hear is amazing!
Victoria
As others said that jerk chicken - crispy, juicy a bit spicy and zesty. Good value too compared to some of the other options. Would have gone back for seconds if there wasn't so much other amazing food to fill up on!

Fried Jerk Chicken. What a sensational feed. I love miss Clawdys anyway but was great to see them pump out the same quality food 10x faster. They were super organised in their service too so everyone was fed very quickly indeed. I will definitely be going back to the original venue soon!
HJ
Fried chicken jerk was one of my fav dishes for the night! It was the first thing that caught my eye on Miss Clawdys menu and I was pleased with the result - the chicken was succulent, packed with flavour and really tasty. Looking forward to heading here for more delicious dishes soon!

Atmosphere is very pretty and it's at the viaduct. Not my cup of tea~ but it wasn't too bad. They are mainly sharing plates so recommend coming in groups. Loved the chicken and chips and a special popcorn appetizer they give. Service is very good and the waiters are very friendly👍

Southern fried jerk chicken and jambalaya is amazing, definitely recommend it, thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait to visit their restaurant sometime in the near future 😊
Nikki Rowan
Our first stop at Taste this year. We were so excited to try the jerk chicken. It did not disappoint. It was sensational. We talked about it for the rest of the evening and recommended it to everyone we ran into. By the end of the evening we had to return for more. By this time the word had gotten out and the queue was crazy, and we joined it. Highly recommended.
Lisa Reynolds
First stop. Miss clawdys southern fried chicken. So moistX coating so crispy, a bit of heat but not too much. Messy fingers everywhere. The popcorn while we waited for our chicken was a nice touch.

I did have a lunch on Sunday afternoon at this place. It was a Sunday after rugby world cup final.<br/>For start it was busy .about 6table seating and only one waitress. They should put a lot more.<br/>How ever that poor girl did manage to get everyone's order and I had my lunch in 15 min time which it was impressive.<br/>Amazing customer service from her.<br/>Food was pretty amazing and tasty as well .I had a beef shoulder and meet was melting in my mouth. Potato chunky was good too.<br/>Also we had a salad (I can't remember the name) with beetroot and it was my favorite. I really enjoyed it .<br/>Definitely will go back there.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: "Good lawdy!" Channeling the spirit of New Orleans, Miss Clawdy pays great attention to detail... The colour scheme took on a rustic hue, the music was of the vintage kind, and the wait staff wore bandanas. Southern funk indeed! <br/><br/>FOOD: the complimentary popcorn to begin with was delicious. As it was lunchtime I had a fish taco and a side of 'dirty rice'. The taco was tasty yet unremarkable, but I appreciated the decent sized piece of fish. The rice reminded me of a tasty Pilau, but this one had pieces of chicken liver - it was the ultimate comfort food! To end the meal we couldn't resist but have some churros. Mmmmm! <br/><br/>SERVICE: friendly, attentive and full of smiles. <br/><br/>Some may see Miss Clawdy as too much of a theme restaurant, but I don't mind at all, especially as the operation appeared slick and the food was delicious. A great option in the North Wharf precinct.
Sunita
Complimentary popcorn upon arrival is a delicious start to the meal<br/>The corn chips and Guac was on point, with the Jerk chicken being the most stellar dish of the evening.<br/>Jerk Chicken game was so strong, we came back a week later.

Have come here a few times, always mid week, and although crowded we are seated quickly. Very stylishly decorated, the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant draws people in. Wait staff were welcoming and friendly during our visit last night. <br/><br/>We ordered a variety of different meals to share from the southern/South American inspired menu- all three po' boys (calamari, shrimp, pork), of course the jerk chicken, corn bread, jalapeño hush puppies. Food wasn't as tasty as expected for a restaurant with such a well known reputation. All the flavours of each dish seemed to be slightly on the safe side- not outstanding, not bad. Well priced however, and lots of options. The stand out for me personally was the corn bread, which was the tastiest dish with a slight spice to it. <br/><br/>Overall, a great place to hang out with a fun atmosphere. Food is ok, needs slightly more flavour, but can be forgiven due to the yummy complementary caramel popcorn given on arrival.

Having heard such good reviews about this restaurant I was very excited to be having dinner with a group of friends. Upon arrival the staff were friendly and prompt taking orders etc. I ordered the pulled pork taco and the jerk chicken..I also had a try of the pork belly and dessert. The pulled pork taco was very cute but tasteless -didn't look appetizing either.. The jerk chicken was a good serve and I enjoyed. The pork belly needed to be cooked for longer as it wasn't falling apart/tender but the flavor was there. The dessert which was pastry filled with custard was amazing!! The thing that brought my rating down was the lights being turned on/ music off and chairs and tables being stacked at 10:45 on a Friday night..essentially a 'get lost we want to go home'.

Was quite excited to visit a new place however found it to be the worst restaurant I have ever come across. Very poor and super slow customer service. I find the staff too arrogant and uninterested.<br/><br/>Non accommodating restaurant especially after the booking was made quite in advance. The restaurant itself has no wow factor and is too cluttered.<br/><br/>Very disappointing experience and hence will never go back.
Stephanie Ly
This place has a great vibe! I got the Po' Boys pop-corn shrimp and it was bomb! The southern fried jerk chicken is pretty good and the cocktails although pricey is definitely worth it haha I had the old fashioned cherry lemonade which was great. Also can't go wrong with the custard filled Beignets!
Anna Daley
Had a great little experience here the other day. We were short on time so only popped in for a snack but it was a winner none the less! I had the popcorn shrimp po-boy which was very tasty! Yummy citrus mayo on a soft, fluffy and lightly toasted bun. Shrimp was PERFECTLY cooked which is a nice change on a bed of iceberg. <br/><br/>Heading back here for dinner tonight to try some more dishes!

The whole set up of this restaurant is really good. Beautiful location and very nice and cosy. Excellent service here, all staff look very happy and attentive. Food was pretty good however I must say that the garden salad is very bitter. I thought it might of just been me because of the cocktail I had which was quite sour, however my partner tried it and he also thought it was very bitter and he didn't have anything to drink. There was hardly any sauce in the salad but luckily enough the sauce of the gumbo helped making the salad a lot easier to eat. The jerk chicken is so good, it could be improved if there was more meat as it was mostly just skin. We will definitely be coming back here again and will try a different salad for next time.

Fantastic sharing plates with so much variety. Not normally something I would try but very pleased I did. Such a cool place with great food and great service.

I love this place!!! So hip and trendy. Food was great. Cheviche is a must try and the corn bread too! Will definitely be back and bring more friends over. Thank you
Auckland Food Tours
Went here for lunch. It's a great setting if you're outside on a nice day, and we were.<br/>Attentive staff who proffered a bowl of home made popcorn as soon as we sat, which is a nice touch. <br/>Started with black bean dip then the fish taco, pull pork po' boy and gumbo. Each are well made and satisfying. <br/>It's not strictly traditional Southern cooking but close with a kiwi twist (you don't get a piece of corn bread but rather corn bread crumble on top of the gumbo) <br/>I enjoyed it and will return.<br/>Tip: try to get the seat outside by the bar.
Annie Ren
A bit disappointed for dinner here. The vibe and whole setting of the restaurant was very lovely and so was the service. However I found the food to be a bit under value for what it's worth. I haf the beef brisket taco and it was quite dry and bland. The pulled beef was quite tangy in texture but it lacked flavour. The beetroots didn't really add much flavour to it either. The soft shell crab was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. But I didn't like the pickled coleslaw and the overall portion was quite small too. Don't know if I'll go again and probably not going to get tacos.
Neeraj Kumar
I came here with my family recently without a booking and we were greeted with the friendliest restaurant staff I've ever experienced. During our dinner we were severed by two super friendly and helpful waiters who both did an excellent job of explaining the menu to us. The food is best enjoyed by ordering a variety of dishes and sharing them, I thoroughly recommend the ceviche because I think they used raw kingfish which has a really firm and tender texture and has no resemblance to eating any other raw fish, the jambalaya was the other popular dish we tried which was very flavourful. The highlight of the evening was most definitely the desserts! The Key Lime pie was sublime! I'd never had it before but I thoroughly enjoyed the refreshing zestyness of the filling and the silky sweetness of the meringue. I think i might even pop in just for desserts sometime.. nom.. nom nom… gotta try the beignets too.
Angela (A Style Collector)
I've been here a few times and I've always enjoyed coming here. I love the complimentary popcorn you get in your table. It's a great snack while waiting for your food.<br/><br/>The decor is nice and the service is great.<br/><br/>For the food, I recommend the jerk chicken to share but my favourite is the popcorn shrimp po'boy. The pulled pork taco is also nice. For dessert, I've tried the beignets and coconut fried banana. The desserts were okay. I found the beignets too doughy and there's so much sauce but the banana was nice.

This place has a right little mix up of South American, Southern American goodness! Sitting outside in the sun is the way I'd do it and get what I would say is the best presented and tasting Pims in NZ! The food is outstanding and the service is sharp.

Hmmmm ok I have mixed feeling about this place. Miss Clawdy used to be my favorite Wynyard haunt last year and I used to visit hear every two or three month, saving it for important occasions. I visited the place again recently, and the food is still above average, but it is not as impressive as it used to be. Less quantity, less variety, subtle changes in flavor. Would be good to see Miss Clawdy up the game again.

Being a vegetarian it's hard to find good main options- if you don't like egg (there's a green egg omelette plate) your only options are really the salads and sides. However miss clawdy's redeeming factor has to be the exquisite desserts- the beignets and the key lime pie are divine. Also a great selection of drinks. I would come back for snacky food + dessert/drinks but if I really wanted a good vege main meal I would go elsewhere.
Elizabeth Harding
Just ok. Nice ambiance.<br/>The free Popcorn was super delicious.<br/>Everything else was just ok. <br/>My pork taco was a little dry, but tasty nonetheless. Some of the dishes seemed small for their price, but I guess that's just the price of things in this area. Service was ok.

I'll keep it short. Great food, so good I tried more than basically half that menu. Atmosphere was awesome. Will come back again, oh and it was so good I forgot I had allergies to seafood and ended up eating the prawns. #worthit

Went for a work lunch. I was very much looking foward to it as I have a soft spot for Southern food. Decor was funky and I liked the layout from the go. Upon our seating we had an awkward moment of trying to find somewhere to put our coats and handbags. Lol. We received complimentary popcorn which was very nice. Flavored with cinnamon I believe. I ordered the brisket taco and pulled pork and cheese poh boy. <br/><br/>I have to say I was disappointed. It very much lacked flavor or sauce! Taco was average. Maybe even below average. The beef was almost bland I had to put some guacamole from our dip to spice it up. Po boy was the same. The only flavors that came through was the sweetness of the apples and a tang from the cheese. The star component again, the meat was bland. Key lime pie to follow was ok but with a total of nearly $40 I was disappointed and still hungry.<br/><br/>A postive to this was the Bread for the poh boy was spot on! Had a crisp bite on the outside and soft inside. The waitress was attentive to filling our water glasses and staff were friendly. <br/><br/>There are other places that can bring the taste of the Deep South to justice.
Bobby Anderson
Food was tasty, would recommend the jerk chicken and calamari po boys. Also got the pulled pork taco, the sauce from the meat had soaked the taco and made it a mess to eat. Service was good.

Headed into Miss Clawdy having read the reviews beforehand, would've preferred to be surprised a lot more so I do regret doing that. <br/><br/>Nonetheless the decor was wonderful!<br/>We were waited on as soon as we stepped in, top notch service! We were sat right next to the open kitchen, the problem I had with being sat at stools I soon found, was that there was nowhere to put my scarf and cardigan but my lap and it was uncomfortable <br/><br/>We were immediately given complimentary spiced popcorn and asked if we wanted water. Our waitress was absolutely wonderful all throughout the night, checking up on us, topping our waters up, she really offered amazing service!<br/><br/>My friend ordered plantain chips with cilantro dip and jerk chicken. Went for dinner with family for daughters birthday. Contary to other reviews the service was very good and staff polite and helpful. Found the let down was the food. We ordered 7 dishes and two deserts. Overall didnt find the food all that great nor did my wife but our 2 daughters had a higher opinion.

Had dinner with friends. Nice atmosphere with a great menu. Staff were attentive and well mannered.<br/><br/>The food is well prepared and presentation is on point. The idea of the dishes being made to share allows customers to try a wide range of food. <br/><br/>As far as negatives go, the dim lighting at the table we used meant that the table wasn't as clean as expected (I noticed a sticky residue, presumably from a spilt soft drink). The pricing is fair, but could be more competitive (it gets expensive if you like big meals).<br/><br/>Overall a good experience.

One of my favourite restaurants- worth the drive into town. Parking is fairly easy to find- just don't go at 7pm on a Friday/Saturday when it's mental- it's a popular spot so if it's really busy you won't get a seat straight away. The food is so good, I've tried most dishes on their menu- the Po boys are tasty, the gumbo is great, the pork belly was so tender and the sides are all perfect. I love that you get seasoned popcorn for starters while you're ordering and the wait staff are amazing at filling up your glasses with water! It's such a nice touch! Their cocktail menu has some really nice creations- the cherry lemonade is amazing! This is one of my favourites! 🍗🍗<br/>

The staff here are so nice!! Came after a busy day at work, it was so cold and miserable outside but the staff here made you feel at home. Portions were huge, could not finish! Will be back for mooore!

The venue is very nice and the place is beautifully furnished, nothing too complex but warm and inviting. It is a small venue, so forget about privacy, this is more of a place to visit with friends and family instead of your partner.<br/><br/>I visited Miss Clawdys with a group of friends and we shared a few different dishes. I shared the ceviche, pulled pork taco and fried chicken with the rest of my party and I wasn't really impressed with the food. Presentation is nice and plates look definitely inviting but the taste disappointed me. I will not judge the ceviche because I admit to be a little picky with this dish and I only enjoy it when it's prepared on a certain way, but my friends enjoyed it. I didn't really like that much the pulled pork taco, meat was good but the mixtures of flavours didn't really worked very well for me and the size was a little disappointing. The chicken was all right but I expected more, it was too close to KFC like chicken rather than home-made nana's fried chicken, a Southern special.<br/><br/>Our waitress was nice but she seemed to have forgotten about us in the moment she dropped our food at the table. Our table was over-crowded with empty plates and bottles and we had to stand up to ask for more drinks a couple of times.<br/><br/>If I was to choose I would probably go somewhere else for dinner but if my friends are already there I would find something in the menu safe and not too complex.

We had dinner here last night. After a show for Fashion Week we were all pretty hungry after the show had a delayed start. We skipped the after party and headed here and managed to get a table quickly for 6 despite walking in after 8.30pm.<br/><br/>We got pop-corn on the table. Absolutely delicious! One of my friends would love the recipe.<br/><br/>Our waitress was nice and served us quickly. Took our orders and there wasn't a very long wait for food.<br/><br/>I ordered the Jerk Chicken and the Kumara side after being told by my mate the chicken came on it's own. Wish I got more chicken but it was piping hot and delicious regardless. Sauce was a bit hot for me (I don't eat much hot food) but my friends loved it and used it as a dipping sauce for the chips. Kumara was gooood and cooked well!<br/><br/>Also tried a bit of my cousins beef ribs - Divine! Tried another friend's Ceviche - strong lemon taste but I liked it! (I eat raw fish made at home regularly). I liked it a bit too much coz later that night I had an allergic reaction because I forgot to ask what fish was used (my fault!!!).<br/><br/>Had a bit of my friend's chocolate and orange dessert. Divine! Think I'd go back and order it for myself next time.<br/><br/>Overall it was great night out at Miss Clawdys. Love the decor and was good for a quick bite after a long evening.

Yum x infinity. The menu is unique and they provide you with free curry popcorn. Can't beat that. Also you pretty much can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu.

Amazing service, very thorough in ensuring we were enjoying ourselves. The bartender hitting on a friend about the size of his manhood was the highlight of my evening. The food was delicious, key lime pie was the "shit" ! Also the decor is beautiful, dried flowers framed as the wallpaper gives this place a romantic feel, perfect for a first date !

Love the location, love the vibe, love the decor, and love that thy've put fried chicken and slow cooked beef rib on the menu. But who hasn't?<br/><br/>The food is good, tasty and delicious and lives up to it's southern reputation.  Would have liked to have seen some more originality in the dishes but all round a good experience.

This restaurant is quite funky and there's something quirky about it - positive vibes! The service is good, so is the food! I really enjoyed having the jambalaya and the fried chicken. <br/><br/>This place is nice but i would not specifically go out of my way just to dine here. I love coming here during the summer - very nice water views around this area.

This place never disappoints! Food is always amazing (especially the free popcorn they provide) and the service is always quick!<br/><br/>Came here for lunch after it hailed with my partner and our dogs. Outdoor seating was actually very warm and comfortable, they also provide blankets. It's hard to find a restaurant with such an awesome outdoor area where you are shielded from the unpredictable weather and Miss Clawdy is the only one so far!
Katie-Rose Comiskey
Miss Clawdys is one of my go to favourite restaurants. They have amazing food everytime - the fried chicken is a must along with the miss clawdys punch! The service can be a bit hit and miss but is defiantly out weighed by the decor and food! This place is a must go!

I was really excited to go to Miss Clawdy but honestly, I found it barely above average. Service was a bit tarty and food was not something I'd rush back for. The ambience and decor was the only redeemable quality. Overall, just a very average experience.
Jack Ward
Miss Clawdys used to be our #1 place to go for great food and service. The last few times we have been the service has been average, and the most recent time we were given undercooked food. Not sure if we will return. A 2.5 review because the last experience was not entirely bad, but very underwhelming compared with the past.

Miss Clawdys is a great place to go that's out out the city enough where you can relax and indulge in soul food. The po boys and fried chicken are always a treat. Me and my friends usually get a bunch of plates to share, so you can try a range of things from the menu. Great atmosphere and fit out.

Cozy restaurant to meet up with friends with good food. Happy with the atmosphere.<br/><br/>- Had the jerk chicken because I heard it was good and I was not disappointed definitely good. I also had the baby kumaras which was nice but the best thing was the coconut fried bananas w/ mango chilli and vanilla bean ice cream it was great. Had a great time and a good meal. :)

After dining at Clawdys for the fourth time last week, I think it's time to share my experiences. <br/><br/>The jerk chicken a hit or miss. I've had it beautifully juicy and also borderline burnt and dry. The gumbo was recommended by a few of my friends and I was pretty surprised. Definitely a highlight. The short ribs are also quite tasty. Tacos are pretty standard, could get similar tacos anywhere. Avoid the asian slaw at all costs. We had a mouthful each and could barely finish it, waaay to acidic. <br/><br/>Decor is great. Ambiance is a enjoyable given its not tooooo busy. Service could be better. Still an enjoyable dining experience, just probably not something I'll be rushing back to.

Pretty good environment! Great staff and good food. Well priced for what you got. And the food was what it said it was going to be.. very nice<br/>

Oh lordy, Miss Clawdy! A cliche, most probably well overused but also quite necessary to describe the taste sensation that is dining at Miss Clawdy, Wynyard Quarter's take on Southern 'soul food'. <br/><br/>These days in Auckland this sort of food is not hard to find, but I'd easily say that Miss Clawdy does it best. With great service, great food and triple whammy, great decor - every time I've dined here I've left satisfied. <br/><br/>Highlights of the menu for me include the jerk chicken and ceviche, but they also do a damn good cocktail. <br/><br/>If you're trying to pick a Southern and Central America style restaurant, I'd go for Miss Clawdy's every time. It's somewhere that you can actually take kids (a mean feat at 'cool' restaurants in Auckland).<br/><br/>The only downer? It's a walk in restaurant for groups less than 12 people.<br/><br/>#challenge

I visited Miss Clawdy on Wednesday night (15/07/15) with high hopes. Service was a little odd, the waitresses were helpful but not very attentive after we had our food.<br/><br/>When I was asked how the food was, I could only say it was alright because it was unfortunately just that.<br/><br/>We had the fried chicken to share, a fish taco and pork taco. The fish taco was good, could have done with a little more flavour. The pork taco was unfortunately extremely acidic and it was hard to eat more than a few bites of the slaw. The fried chicken was the biggest let down as my girlfriend and I Love almost any fried chicken but the chicken we had was very floury and flavourless. Very juicy and tender but still bland.<br/><br/>Not ruling out another visit but this visit was rather average.

I went along to Miss Clawdy with some friends who rated it amongst their top dinner spots. We started with tacos were tasty however my main was far from. I ordered the pork belly which was 80% fat, not at all crispy and there was very little actual meat. Disappointing for a well rated restaurant like Miss Clawdy.

Miss Clawdy's is definitely one of the better New Orleans inspired restaurants around Auckland. The flavours are pretty authentic, although some variations have been made for the local palette.<br/>The atmosphere is spot on, with low lighting and various statement light fixtures, making it perfect for small groups or an intimate meal, and the complimentary seasoned popcorn was a nice touch.<br/>The portions for some dishes are a little on the small side, but I'd recommend picking a few plates and sharing with friends.<br/>The fried chicken was a favourite, the cornbread with chilli oil was very good, and the iceberg wedge was an interesting addition, however the absolute winner of the night was the ice-cream sandwich with chocolate milk - well priced and extremely tasty.<br/>The only downsides were the waiting time - both waiting for a table to be free (on a cold Tuesday night) and waiting for dishes to come out for the table, but overall it was a great experience.

Went here on Friday with some friends. For there early so avoided the rush. Food was pretty good but not amazing. I had the pulled pork po boy. Fries were a good size. The cookie sandwich was yummy though. I had the salted caramel ice cream in mine, was great value. Atmosphere was great and the service quick.

Fried Goodness! Came here for a work lunch, ordered a pulled pork taco and southern friend jerk chicken, all very very good and I cant complain about a thing. Ordering 2 things was the best way to go!

Had heard so much about Miss Clawdy and so finally decided to check it out! The service is fast and my glass of water was never left to be empty too long 😂 I loved this because I'm such a thirsty person! The staff was helpful with my allergy information and the food was prepared quickly! The chicken bites which I also got were so good! As well as our other ordered food! All in all id definitely go back!

Miss Clawdy is a Central and Southern American-styled eatery with a cosy and welcoming environment. <br/><br/>Their dishes are great for sharing, ideally with 2-4 friends. This is my second time dining here, both times we ordered the CEVICHE which is one of my favourite dishes. The contrasting tangy flavours with the coconut cream work so well together, I would recommend. <br/><br/>We also ordered the jambalaya, jerk chicken with a side slaw, all which I thoroughly enjoyed. <br/><br/>I wasn't really a fan of the cinnamon beignets for dessert. It just felt like fried dough coated in sugar and dipped in a butterscotch sauce. <br/><br/>Other than that, I had a very pleasant experience dining here. The staff were very friendly and our waitress did a great job ensuring we were looked after. Food arrived at a good pace, and the couches and pillows added a nice touch. I will definitely be back.

I was really looking forward to trying out the food here. The setting was lovely - very comfy with lovely big cushions. <br/>I had the corn bread with chilli oil as a starter and the Ya Ya Gumbo for main. My husband had the Southern Fried Calamari and Jambalaya for main. My daughter had the Ceviche for main. <br/><br/>The corn bread was yummy so was the Calamari. Was disappointed with the Gumbo - I felt it was like a seafood soup. It could've been served with a crusty bread at least. The after taste was almost bitter - a little bit of a canned flavour. <br/>The same could be said of Jambalaya. The Ceviche was bland and served with pita crisps. <br/><br/>For dessert we had Coconut Fried Banana, Key Lime Pie and Cinnamon Beignet. The Key Lime Pie stood out for me. It was delicious. The Beignet was overly sweet with the caramel sauce. Nothing much to say about the Fried Banana.<br/><br/><br/>

Came here for a late dinner, loved the instant vibe, bit poor customer service, sat outside as there were apparently no seats, had a chicken taco really small, fries delicious, cookie milk not great. Great layout of Restaraunt! Lights look great!

My foodie friend and I had lunch at Miss Clawdy and both of us thought it was pretty great. The decor was spot on and when we arrived, we were served complimentary popcorn which had a wonderful flavour!<br/><br/>We started with berry mocktails which were delicious. We then ordered quite a feast:<br/><br/>- Popcorn shrimp (unusual but good flavours)<br/>- Grilled fish taco (small but tasty)<br/>- Southern fried jerk chicken with chipotle lime mayo (best fried chicken I have had so far in Auckland and far superior to the fried chicken at Mexico!!!)<br/>- Snapper ceviche (very refreshing)<br/>- Cornbread (to.die.for!) <br/>- And the best dish of the day - the beetroot, quinoa and goat’s curd salad which is seriously good! I have re-visited Miss Clawdy just for this dish!<br/><br/>Next came dessert. I had high expectations for the key lime pie as I had read many great reviews about it. However, when it arrived, the meringue on top was not properly done and as for the flavour, well it did not taste like lime, more lemon and was far too sweet (not in a good way). I was really disappointed!<br/><br/>Overall, the starters and mains were delicious and the service consistent too. I would have given Miss Clawdy a higher rating if the key lime pie had hit the spot!

We came here for an early dinner... It looked pleasant and the menu sounded interesting... Service was very friendly and gave us advice. The food was quick to arrive and as they said in no real order. The food was ok... Not quite for us really... If you want a quick bite and like this kind of food then do try but we won't be back.

Miss Clawdy is an Elvis song who is apparently from New Orleans. This restaurant gives you a taste from there but there is no Elvis touch to it.<br/><br/>We got here just after eight and had to wait a few mins for a table. The place was packed and food and drinks on people's table looked good!<br/><br/>The place is concealed yet nice. Decor is pleasing and is comfortable in spite of the fact that the place was full of people on the night. We even had a celebrity spotting (Dani from the Bachelor) How exciting?! 😁<br/><br/>We sat down and ordered drinks which were prompt. The waiter didn't explain the menu to begin with but did make sure we knew what we were ordering. The confusion was that he told us we are ordering heaps so we canned the sides and stuck to 3 entrees and 4 mains but we ended up getting everything anyway and us being being us did not have it sent back so we ended up with way too much food.<br/> <br/>On to the food - we tried all three po-boys and the pick for me was the calamari. Fresh crisp fried squid with mayo and lettuce - you cannot go wrong with this one. Rest are good but not better! Mains were actually sharing plates and we had jerk fried chicken which is fried chicken - again cant go wrong, it was moist inside and crisp outside but I would have preferred a bit of heat on the crust like chilli. The steak was great with the green chutney sort of thing on top. Very fresh and something I have never had with a steak. Jambalaya is strictly average. Maybe that is a traditional recipe but not my taste. The short rib lacks any sort of excitement and defo the worst of the lot. We had fries, corn bread and hush-puppies with sausage (yes we ordered way too much for 4 pax) and the corn bread is only one worth a try. Pass on the hush puppies - it is as bad as it sounds!!<br/><br/>Friend couldn't help but order the cookie and milk dessert which is very nicely presented and maybe with appropriate amounts of food at the start - this could have been a nice finale for all of us!!<br/><br/>Overall- a nice place for a dine-out but does it blow your mind??? Aaaaahhhhh????!!!!

Do not go here . Saw the reviews on this page and was excited to go. My friends and I came in and saw the prices had increased from the photo here, which is fine. We ordered our food which was a burrito, skirt steak and the jambalaya. Got told the food will come out at different times which defeats the purpose of eating with friends and family. Our food came out at different times as promised, and we were all so disappointed in our meals, it was honestly so average I would rather have gone mac Donald's. My friends agreed. Our waitress meal checked the table in front but didn't bother with us. We were so disappointed with dinner that we decided to go for desert else where. The host was grumpy and also didn't bother to ask how our meal was. I will not go back here.

Headed down to Miss Clawdy at North Wharf for a great date night with my lady Miss Charlotte Cake <br/><br/>As always the experience, food and beverages were awesome. We were seated and were quickly given a bowl of Miss Clawdy's complimentary spiced popcorn and ordered our drinks. I had the Old Fashioned Cherry Lemonade and would recommend it! Great drop <br/><br/>For our shared mains we got the Corn Chips w/ guacamole (so fresh and smooth), Corn Bread (which is the best corn bread I have ever eaten), Southern Fries Jerk Chicken w/chipotle & lime Mayo (which is some of my favourite fried chicken) and the ya ya Gumbo (which was so freakin tasty). <br/><br/>For dessert was my favourite Key Lime Pie.<br/><br/>Anything on this menu is a good choice. Miss Clawdy is one of my favourite places to eat in Auckland

This place is one of my favs! The staff are friendly and there is a chill and cool atmosphere. You MUST try the pork belly - best pork belly I've ever tasted. The skin was crispy and the pork just melts in your mouth. The sauces compliments it really well.
Tash
I love the po boys here. They remind me of the ones from America. The shrimp are so crispy and flavourful. The staff are really nice and the atmosphere is great. The lights are so pretty.

I've been three a few times, I've enjoyed it every time. Great service, amazing food and nice atmosphere. If you are looking for a simple dinner, with a slight twist in your ordinary options, it's a good place to go to. For vegetarians.. I wouldn't recommend going there.. Mediterranean food is not famous for being the 1st choice for vegetarians..

Been craving this fried jerk chicken for a week, it was probably as good as kylie Jenner eating popeye fried chicken while she was high. <br/><br/>Also had a naughty Monday cocktail which I forgot the name of. Cherry something. The ice cubes in it were made out of juice which was a bonus! <br/><br/>Not too impressed with the pulled pork Po' boys though.... As Manu (from my kitchen rules) would say "where is the sauce?!" <br/><br/>Oh and loving this free popcorn concept that's been popping up every where. It's like the concept of giving free mints after, people are likely to tip, or tip more than average! <br/>@inourmouths on instagram

Located on Auckland’s North Wharf, Miss Clawdy is a restaurant inspired by cuisine from the South & Central Americas. Describing themselves as a ‘soul food haven’, Miss Clawdy is inspired by Lloyd Price’s 1952 New Orleans hit single, Lawdy Miss Clawdy, and describes their food as ‘edible goodness wrapped in a lil’ southern magic’. I have visited Miss Clawdy on one occasion, and this week I brought my partner and a friend back for the cheerful, vibrant atmosphere.<br/><br/>We were seated upon arrival at a high table close to the kitchen; a warm, dimly lit and relatively private area. As we looked over the menu, we enjoyed Miss Clawdy’s complimentary cinnamon popcorn, which was tasty and sweet. To start, we chose two cocktails: Green Tea Mojito – bacardi rum, mint, fresh lime, sugar & green tea syrup and Old-Fashioned Cherry Lemonade – ketel one citron vodka, massenez crème de griotte, & orange bitters over homemade lemonade over house made lemonade ice cubes. Both were very refreshing cocktails. The Green Tea Mojito was especially fresh and easy to drink, while the Old-Fashioned Cherry Lemonade was citrusy and a little sour.<br/><br/>Miss Clawdy’s menu is made of fantastic sharing plates, so we chose six dishes to share between us!<br/><br/>My choice was the Braised Beef Short Rib with smashed potato & bourbon BBQ sauce. This was very, very soft & tender and well cooked. The bourbon BBQ sauce was very flavoursome and complemented it well, as with the balancing smashed potato. I also chose the Chargrilled Baby Kumara with macadamia nut crumble, orange oil & parsley, which couldn’t have tasted more delicious – it had a great texture and the most perfected chargrilled flavour. Definitely one of my favourites!<br/><br/>My partner chose the Southern Fried Calamari with shredded iceberg & chipotle lime mayo. We usually love calamari, however we didn’t expect it to arrive in a burger and would’ve preferred it without. We all found the calamari quite average and thought it could have been crispier. His next choice, Southern Fried Jerk chicken with chipotle & lime mayo, was a highlight for all of us. We absolutely loved the succulent, tender fried chicken and especially the chipotle & lime mayo, which complemented it very well and gave it an amazing and unique flavour.<br/><br/>Our friend chose the Ya Ya Gumbo with prawns, chicken, andouille sausage, okra, alaska king crab & cornbread crumble – a melting pot of goodness! This was a tasty combination of everything; I especially enjoyed the prawns. The flavour was wholesome and just a tad spicy, but mild enough for my taste. A highly recommended dish for sharing, as it is large in portion with something for everyone.<br/><br/>We finished with dessert, Coconut Fried Banana with mango & dried banana salsa & vanilla bean ice cream. This unique dessert was enjoyable and not too sweet. I was indifferent about the mango & dried banana salsa, which didn’t do much for me, but I very much enjoyed the outer crunchy coconut layer with the banana and the vanilla bean ice cream. A lovely dish to end a very satisfying dinner.<br/><br/>Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable experience at Miss Clawdy. I love the warmth of the restaurant and its friendly, cheerful, cozy atmosphere. The customer service on both my visits has been informative and helpful, offering to share a little about the menus before we order and being happy to elaborate on dishes we were considering. <br/><br/>The only disappointment was one of the waitresses in the beginning when I asked if we were able to switch to a table in a brighter spot. As the website had stated it is a walk in restaurant, with only a table of 12 for booking, I hadn't made a booking. However she said the other tables (empty at the time) were unavailable, and when I asked if they were reserved, she said yes. I didn't ask for more of an explanation as she not only did not offer to see what she could do, her attitude was very non-chalant and apathetic. <br/><br/>A highlight is the little wait time as the dishes arrive very shortly after ordering, hot and fresh, and are generous and filling in portions. I would highly recommend Miss Clawdy for a lovely & delicious meal out with friends, as it is a restaurant perfect for sharing!<br/><br/>Old-Fashioned Cherry Lemonade $15 <br/>Green Tea Mojito $15  <br/>Braised beef short rib $28 <br/>Chargrilled baby kumara $8 <br/>Southern fried calamari $12 <br/>Southern fried jerk chicken $16.5 <br/>Ya Ya Gumbo $19.5 <br/>Coconut fried banana $12

Absolutely enjoyed it when we went here for dinner. Both service and food are great! We ordered po boys popcorn shrimp and cuban, fish and pulled pork tacos, southern fried chicken and grilled baby kumara with macadamia crumb. Everything was yummy and I really like their set-up of sharing plates as you can try almost everything! The service is great too, we got seated, we were looked after and we did not wait for so long for the food to be served.

Been here numerous times, when me and the husband can't make up our mind or are feeling fussy this is one of our choices the side of pop corn is just a tease of what's to come with the actual meals, there ceviche, the PO Boys, the friend chicken, the steak ohh everything here just makes your taste buds tingle, not to much of a fan of the location as the bars on the other side have the view u get a little jealous while sitting there BUT the food and the price is great
Brittany Montana
I love Miss Clawdy for a cheap feast! Their pulled pork tacos are delicious, along with their renowned fried chicken. Also a great place for a drink on a Friday afternoon, their cherry lemonade jug is a great option!

Good food, great atmosphere. Went here with friends a couple of times and will be back again especially as we live walking distance from this lovely restaurant.

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. Very good service and was plated really fast. Nice atmosphere. Little crammed inside. I ordered "Ceviche" and it very nice. The chargrilled baby kumaras were average. Needed more flavour. <br/><br/>Ordered the cookies and ice cream sandwich with a side of milk (dark chocolate was milk of the day). It was nice but both the milk and cookies were way too sweet and heavy. Had to drink a lot of water to finish that off. <br/><br/>Highlight was definitely the popcorn we were served from the start (complimentary snack/starter I presume). It was very unique and tasted very good. <br/>

Such a lovely place with very nice staff. My Key Lime Pie was amazing!! And my sister and friend ordered the fried chicken and corn chips with guacamole which were very nice and tasty. We brought our dog and sat outside so unfortunately I didn't get to experience the interior. But I definitely will next time :)

Very cool little joint, loved the free spiced popcorn on the table (I want the recipe!). Food was lots of fun and great to share with a few people. Especially loved the ceviche and the cornbread...we will be back for those. Only let down were the po boys... they were nice but just nice. Overall a great restaurant and will be back.

Pulled pork is a classic. Next time I would like to try the maize bread, it looked interesting. For dessert we had the pear cobbler. I think I was expecting too much, and was slightly disappointed.

<br/>After trying the new Westhaven Promenade walk we revisited Miss Clawdy's for a well deserved lunch and a cold beer. Both of us enjoy this Cajun style hand eaten food. We have previously tried the Southern classics of Shrimp Po' Boys and Key Lime Pie, both of which can be recommended. Today we chose the Cuban Po' Boy (pulled pork and apple), Cajun Hushpuppies (with andouille sausage), Cornbread, and the hand-cut Street Fries. All dishes were absolutely delicious, full of flavour, with tasty accompaniments, and of generous portions. We couldn't resist finishing with the cinnamon beignets with butterscotch sauce, which were devoured with great enthusiasm. Miss Clawdy is definitely worth another revisit.

Looking forward to a couple of drinks, my wife and I tried to get into Miss Clawdy.<br/>It was 8.50pm, we were behind another couple who also tried to enter and were told it was closed. We also asked assuming it would be ok for drinks but no, we were also told it was closed. There were approximately about 20 people in side. Obviously all the staff wanted to go home and couldn't be bothered serving drinks. Just to confirm the time - 8.50pm. Not a good look Miss Clawdy especially for all the tourists around Auckland.

So we came to this place for a birthday dinner party, the service was great, the waiters were very attentive , the food was surely more than average and it was not a rip off at all. If it's your first time to try this place like me, then you should definitely try the fried jerky chicken. It is divine!! I wanted to get some more!! lol :D and even just thinkin bout it makes my mouth water!! :D However, on the downside, the drinks were expensive than usual. Apparently it was the bulk of our bill. So, I suggest not to indulge too much on drinks. ??

First time to eat here and I am impressed. We were able to get a table really quick. Service was fast and the food is great.<br/><br/>We ordered the braised beef, sirloin steak fried chicken jambalaya fries guacamole and corn chips. Had bit of everything and its an experience. The jambalaya is my fave a must try. <br/><br/>Highly recommended
Anna Harding
Good food and atmosphere. The cocktails are a must do when I go here as they are always down thing different! My favorite dish, the corn on the cob, has sadly been missing from the menu the past few times I have been. The gumbo is great and the po boys are always good- although you need something else to leave full.

And the award for fastest restaurant service EVER goes to... Miss Clawdy! No kidding, within what seemed like 5-10 minutes of ordering, our meals were being brought out... and they were very tasty. (Although, a little on the slender side. You'd need to order a couple of dishes each to stroll out comfortably full.)<br/><br/>With fabulous furnishings, a friendly team and an affordable menu, it's definitely a good dining option at the Wynyard Quarter.

This place is awesome! Food was amazing, great textures and flavours. Staff are helpful and knowledge. We had all the food we ordered within 15 minutes of placing the order. Very impressed!

I've been craving Cuban Sandwiches ever since I saw the movie Chef and Miss Clawdy delivered. The place was packed, but the service was still attentive. I don't know what they put on their popcorn but it's spicy and delightful. I wanna get a hotel room with it and let it have its way with me.

Great fun restaurant, love sharing plates and these dishes are authenticly Spanish. Reminds me of my holiday back in '85 to a coastal village of Spain. Service could do with some more smiles though. Maybe learn some Spanish too.

This was our 2nd visit to Miss Clawdy's but had our 2 kids with us this time. The first time was great and thought it would be a treat to take our kids here when they got back from Wellington. <br/><br/>We had earlier called to make reservations as we really wanted to take the kids there. Person on the other end said they didn't do reservations but when we got there - the tables out in the sun had 'reserved' signs on them. They must've been really special guests we thought. <br/><br/>It wasn't so busy but it took awhile for our orders to be taken. <br/><br/>After our orders were taken everything was great! Loved the food. We had the Jambalaya, the Jerk Chicken (2x), the Beef Rib with Bourbon sauce, fat cut chips and Corn bread. In hindsight, could've just done with one chicken and order something else.<br/><br/> We normally don't order drinks but they were presented really well that it caught our 12 yr old daughter's attention and so I happily ordered cocktails for my wife and I - we had the Miss Clawdy's Punch. It was very refreshing. Well done. <br/><br/>As for the mocktails, I was disappointed that the kids' drinks were more expensive than our punch in a jug. The waitress didn't offer to mix up a jug of the Cherry Lemonade found in the kids' menu. Had it anyway which the kids enjoyed. <br/><br/>Another disappointment was it felt like we were being rushed out, wasn't offered dessert or coffee as we chatted away about the food. <br/>

Really enjoyed the vibe and the simple but yet mouth watering menu.<br/><br/>Southern fried chicken seems like it's everyone's favourite, nearly every table ordered at least a plate. My personal favorite would be Jambalaya from the main (sharing), very rich seafood flavour, played a very good savoury note. I had a conservative guest so we've ordered the 200gm skirt steak with chimichurri sauce, the sauce was the magician of the dish.<br/><br/>I recommend to ditch the chunky fries and save it for dessert next time. Saw my neighbouring table enjoying their cookies and ice cream sandwich...I should have done that! Maybe next time.<br/><br/>If you have a small to medium appetite like me and with a group of three, a main each and a side should be enough. Remember to save some room for the dessert and some fancy cocktails!<br/><br/><br/><br/>

Miss Clawdy has been on our radar for a while and on our recent trip to Wynyard Quarter we decided to venture in for a visit. With our infant son along for the adventure we strolled up and were seated quickly. The waitress offered us a high chair and wheeled away our stroller to what looks like potentially a private dining room (but was stroller central that day!) in the rear of the restaurant. On a hot day, the restaurant was cool and breezy, a major relief. The decor was gorgeous; the bench seats generously lined with fluffy pillows and stunning light fixtures hovered above.<br/><br/>Service was very prompt, both in terms of orders being taken and food delivery. We liked the fact that the dishes came out all together; this is key to good small plate service. Staff were attentive yet not overbearing during our meal and very receptive to not only our child but other children dining, including supplying them with colouring pages to keep them occupied. I would definitely put this on my family-friendly list!<br/><br/>The meals for the most part were great! The complimentary spiced popcorn was a highlight as were the Cajun hushpuppies. The Cuban po'boy lacked some of the zing of the other options and I had expected a stronger taste from the garlic & pepper aioli that accompanied the fries. This by no means undermined the experience but a few tweaks by the chef would make these items outstanding. The food was plentiful in quantity and great value for the price. <br/><br/>Hot tip? Order less if you want dessert. We simply didn't have the room after these meals.<br/><br/>Highly recommend to families or those wanting a casual & filling dining experience in the city.

Went there for dinner with the Mr, great ambiance, excellent food, the service wasn't the greatest. I understand that the whole hospo industry has a high turnover rate and next to nil training, but can we please advise the server that it's not "jar-lah-peh-no"? I think that's enough said about the service with "jar-lah-peh-no". The server also tried too hard to upsell our order, he'd intrude on us when we're deep in a conversation, and nowhere to be seen when we need to place orders. Also, the bathroom smells of fish, which is not really their fault as it's next to the fish market. <br/>Given that the southern/Cajun cuisine is suddenly hip and "it", I reckon there are better southern restaurants to go.
JohnnyF
This is one of my meat favorites. The service is always very good, attentive but not annoying. Its location is convenient and central but just far away enough from the Wynyard sheds to not attract the drunken corporates you don't want to have sit on the table next to you. <br/>I highly recommend the beef ribs.

Have to say, after mix reviews I have received from the place, there service is second to none. <br/><br/>We went there on on the 2nd of Jan at 9pm. Just to say that every other establishment turned us away. 4 of us. Miss Clawdy accepted us. <br/><br/>Food was great. Tasty, and what seamed to be fresh, tasty and easy to eat. <br/><br/>Well done team.

Great service and ambience! The menu is reasonably priced, great variety and love the authenticity of the food. Overall, great experience! Definitely will be going back for more!

Looking to taste some true Southern American cuisine? Well I think I've found the place for you. <br/><br/>This walk-in food haven houses food that not only tastes great but photographs well - for all the instagramers out there, that might be something to keep in mind. <br/><br/>A couple of weeks ago now, my friend and I were walking towards Silo Park when we stumbled upon Miss Clawdy Kitchen. <br/><br/>Curious, we walked up to the outside menu. With foods ranging from tacos and salads, to coconut fried banana and ice cream sandwiches, we promptly asked for a table. <br/><br/>Seated on one of the outside bar tables, we made the most alfresco dinning experience, which shouldn't be passed up on a summers day. Receiving complimentary popcorn was different but no complaints. Watch out for a gust of wind outside though! <br/><br/>The service was a bit all over the place though. The waitress didn't have any personal space issues when setting us up or at any point during our meal come to think of it. Miss Clawdy Kitchen losses a point in my books for this. <br/><br/>The pricing here is average. I wouldn't go as far as saying its a cheap eat but it definitely offers food at a range of prices which is good.<br/><br/>The interior of the place is quite dark but nice. The redeeming feature of this place is definitely the tasty food. Other than that nothing really stands out for me.<br/><br/>I'm not in a rush to go back, but if a friend wanted to check it out or go again, I wouldn't say no.

Atmosphere is pretty cool and quirky and staff seemed to be on top of things. The food wasn’t very great, nor were the drinks though, we had the gumbo which didn’t taste like any gumbo I’ve ever had, and not in a good way, not sure what they were trying to do with this, and it was flipping expensive, had the shrimp po boy, which was a few pieces of fried shrimp on a hard Panini style bread, not very inspiring.<br/>The Southern Fried Jerk Chicken was exceptional, we ordered another round of these and could have ordered a third, it was the only saviour of the meal.<br/>Drinks were on the pricey side and watered down, I think a bit more alcohol for what we were paying for might have made the meal more enjoyable.
Don's Food Fiesta
I give this place points for creativity on decor as they have done a great job with keeping to the Southern style theme it has. Was given a bowl of complementary pop corn when seated which was nice. Staff are attentive and the pork belly amazing yet the jerk chicken average.
Frank
It's great to see a restaurant that specialises in Latin American food, although some of the food items would fit equally well into any restaurant (ie pork belly, fries, tacos), but the unique character of the restaurant, comfortable seating and interesting sharing plates make this place one to remember. The seasonal greens with creole butter were delicious, and the rest of the meal was high in standard, and with decor definitely very inviting on the inside. The only thing I couldn't fit in was the Key Lime Pie with Meringue, so will have to come back especially for that....

I had heard great things about this place.<br/>When we walked in the atmosphere seemed great. When the food arrived it looked great and the portion size also looked good for the price. But I was disappointed after tasting everything. The food lacked flavour. Specially the tacos.

Miss Clawdy has been on my foodie wishlist for so long! Having been to New Orleans for their take on South American food, I was more than keen to get some glorious Miss Clawdy in my belly.<br/><br/>Much like the Creole influenced state of Louisana, this North Wharf eatery got my attention with the dark wood and warm red and yellow hues from the overhanging lanterns. We were lucky to be seated straight away at 6:30pm on a Saturday night, there was a constant row of diners coming in soon after us.<br/><br/>The open kitchen took centre stage in front of us. I love watching the chefs at work. I don’t know how they do it, constantly keeping the beat and moving so purposefully in such a confined space. There was great camaraderie in the kitchen too, genuine smiles while keeping each other entertained. So it was with great reluctance that I had trade seats to have my back to the kitchen, the cushiony sofa just swallowed up my petite frame too much!<br/><br/>Almost as if we were watching the open kitchen show, we were given complimentary popcorn to start with. Sweet and punchy with a bit of paprika and cinnamon, it was addictive like my favourite Sweet and Salty popcorn.<br/><br/>Priding themselves on soul food and bright colourful flavours, we chose tacos to start with. Whilst the taco was soft and meat was well cooked, it lacked the promised punch and attitude. That problem was taken care of with a generous dousing of hot sauce from the table.<br/><br/>We chose the special of the night as a main to share and I’m so glad we did! The lamb was succulent and flavoursome with just enough gravy to soak up. Combined with the comfort of the roasted vegetables, it filled us up well and proper.<br/><br/>A special mention goes out to the generous cocktail list. It was hard to nail down one to order because each sounded as enticing as the other. The two we tried were delicious and quickly went down before the ice had even melted and diluted the drink.<br/><br/>What I looked forward to most in the evening was the dessert. Even more than usual because I spotted a chocolate and chilli pressed souffle running as their special. With my recent love for the dark chocolate and chilli combo, it could only be a match in heaven as a souffle.<br/><br/>The night ended beautifully with this number. My high hopes were met and even surprised me a little with the strength of the chilli. It was chocolatey and dense, and should be shared between two people. Good thing the burn from the chilli stopped me from otherwise scoffing it down unnecessarily. Such decadence was the dish that meant the previous cookies and milk combo was quickly put to the side..<br/><br/>I loved dining at Miss Clawdy. The atmosphere was buzzing but comfortable. The name is inspired by Lloyd Price’s 1952 New Orlearns hit single Lawdy Miss Clawdy. Have a listen, the song pretty much sums up the chilled and fun atmosphere you’ll find at Miss Clawdy!

Awesome cocktails as usual - great place to start!!<br/>service was a little slow which was disappointing considering it was relatively quiet<br/><br/>Started with guac and cornchips which was a tasty starter with a generous serving.<br/>Po boys next, pulled pork and pop corn shrimp. both so yum with a decent amount of filling.<br/>We shared gumbo, fried chicken and pork belly. Gumbo was a bit awkward to eat and my friend found a hair in hers (yuck!!) however it was pretty tasty. Fried chicken was good as usual and while the pork belly was well cooked it was under-seasoned.<br/><br/>We were keen on dessert but had to call a waitress over after about half an hour after our main dishes had been cleared. We shared the special whittakers chocolate pie for dessert, which wasnt even mentioned to us but we saw someone else order it. This was mindblowingly tasty but soooo rich we shared it amoung three and battled to finish it.<br/><br/>As a whole food was pretty good aside from some minor hiccups but the service let them down.

Love love love Miss Clawdys! The food is to die for as are the cocktails. The jerk chicken and hush puppies are a favourite with our group as well as the Miss Clawdys lemonade jug. Haven't been able to ever try dessert as the mains are so amazing we always order waaaay to much. We drive in from Pukekohe to Miss Clawdys and its more than worth it

We came here for my friends birthday dinner. I loved the ambiance. The service was attentive. We got seated at a booth, and was quite cosy. I looked at the menu, and the choices sounded divine.  We ordered a mixture of dishes, I choose the vegetarian options which were ok. I had the beetroot, feta and quinoa salad, which was nice but expensive for what it was. All in all it was average. I'm glad I tried it, a good place for a birthday. And I might come back to try the other options.

Me and my ma went here for dinner last night and it was amazing. The decor was lowkey and the atmosphere was fantastic. The staff were friendly and very helpful. And the food...wow! We had jerk chicken, pork belly and seasonal greens and I wouldn't change a thing. I am definitely going to return!

Went here the other night n was pretty impressed. The jerk chicken was amazing. Had a chilli chocolate mudcake of some description for desert which was super impressive. The beer menu kinda sucks but i guess im being picky.
Tina Yu
I've been here twice and I've been impressed each time. I also went with a different person each time and both were impressed.<br/><br/>Though I never booked (and they were always super busy) they still were very accommodating and seated me at the kitchen bar; which I actually loved as I liked to watch the chefs (they were also very friendly)<br/><br/>Food: Free popcorn was great, the Cuban was excellent, braised beef short ribs were to die for, and their desserts are consistently well presented and delicious.Great, friendly service, cozy atmosphere and love the decor.<br/><br/>Bit on the expensive side if you wanna fill up but thats understandable when you're eating at Wynyard Quarter.

Tonight was my third visit to Miss Clawdy and yet again I walked away feeling completely satisfied! <br/>It was my boyfriend's birthday so he of course chose the fried chicken (didn't even have to think about it, it's a must), we also got the short ribs, jambalaya, and corn chips with guacamole. The service was lovely and the food came out really quickly, much quicker than the other times I have been (probably because it was a Tuesday night). This was a lot of food between the both of us but everything was seriously good. As usual the fried chicken was incredible, the ribs were amazing, the meat was soooo tender and just fell apart.. And they were covered in barbecue sauce! The jambalaya was tasty, but was kind of missing something if you got a spoonful that didn't have some meat in it. I would still recommend any of these dishes to try! <br/>Totally going to go again... And again :)

Came here for a late Saturday lunch. Loved the complementary popcorn. The ceviche was spot on as was the pork belly. Portion sizes could have been a little bigger. Enjoyed the pace the food came out, perfect place for a date or catch up with friends.
Sam Batchelor
Great ambience, great service, exciting menu full of yummy New Orleans favourites. Food was quick to come out and served as sharing plates which always makes for a fun meal full of lively conversation. Great gluten free options. Loved the BBQ Short Ribs, iceberg wedge, kumara salad, and ceviche. All very distinctive tastes that complemented each other. Standout dessert was the coconut fried banana, and close 2nd was key lime pie. Arrived at 7:30pm on a saturday night and were seated and served promptly even though the restaurant was almost packed. Will definitely return.

We went to Miss Clawdy's for our date night and it was spectacular! The service was impeccable and I absolutely loved the open kitchen so you could see everything being prepared!<br/><br/>The whole restaurant looked awesome, loved the layout and decorations. I enjoyed the menu range of delicious Southern Style food. We picked a few different options to share (that way we also go to try loads more, and the highlight of my night was definitely the dessert. We had a key lime pie each, and the portion size was massive! I get that its Southern style and all but holy moly... biggest dessert ever after we had just finished our huge main!<br/><br/>All in all, it was a really lovely place to try and I want to go back and try more!
Tarina
Cool place but the food lacked in WOW factor. The pulled pork po boys were pretty good but nothing amazing! Fab cocktails tho!

I had been keen to try this restaurant for quite some time so when I happened to be in the Wynyard Quarter a couple of weeks ago & was looking for lunch I figured I better give this place a go.<br/><br/>Our order consisted of the following current menu items: The Cuban - pulled pork shoulder, swiss cheese, pickles, habanero mustard & stewed apple ($12.50), the southern fried jerk chicken with chipotle & lime mayo ($15.50) and the chargrilled baby kumara, macadamia nut crumble, orange oil & parsley ($8).<br/><br/>I have to honestly say I was expecting a lot more flavor - everything fell quite flat. I could barely detect the swiss cheese or 'habanero' mustard on The Cuban, so much so that my toddler happily munched away on it without any reaction to what was supposed to be spicy. I make pulled pork in my slow cooker at home quite often & was disappointed to feel that this sandwich was sub par. The fried chicken was ok, but again, words like 'habanero & 'jerk' conjure up images of very spicy, full of heat items of food. It was barely bringing even the slightest tingle to my tastebuds. As for the chargrilled baby kumara, it came to the table SWIMMING in the orange oil and the macadamia crumble ended up being a oily lumpy mess on the bottom of the dish. Additionally, the portion sizes of all three menu items were miniscule and I left still feeling hungry, which I find highly annoying when dining out. <br/><br/>I will not be in any rush to go back, however, their complimentary popcorn was delish, and the server was oh so kind to get a second bowl for my toddler to enjoy, which I believe deserves an honorable mention! If they review the seasoning of the dishes and increase portion sizes or decrease their prices to a tapas style menu I may have a change of heart.

I LOVE THEIR TACOS!<br/><br/>FISH TACOS ESPECIALLY! IT's really difficult to find fish taco's in Auckland unfortunately, even Mexicali don't sell fish taco's :(<br/><br/>I always come here for their fish taco's they always give you free cinnamony tasting popcorn too..which is kind of weird...But hey...it's FREE!<br/><br/>Taco's are delicious here, if they were $5 each I would buy an easy 5 everytime!<br/><br/>They seats have nice pillows too which are very comphy<br/><br/>Service: 4/5<br/><br/>Wait time: 3/5<br/><br/>Environment: 5/5<br/><br/>Food Quality: 5/5<br/><br/>Food Quantity:  3/5<br/><br/>Price range: $120+ pp

Miss Clawdys was very busy when we first arrived but it wasn't too much of an issue as they took our name and booked us in for the next available table. They had a bar which we were able to sit and enjoy some delicious cocktails while waiting for our table.<br/>The portions were quite small but they did mention the menu is made for sharing so maybe it would have been a better idea to get many different things and share everything. However a main and a dessert was just enough to be satisfied but not too full which I liked. <br/>Only down side would probably be that it was quite hard to hear everyone at our table as it was a bit loud inside, but overall a very hip and fun place with tasty food and will go again.

Miss Clawdy is an eatery that aims to fill the soul with southern cuisine. Located in the chic lot of eateries on the North Wharf of town, its a great place for hearty, comfort food. <br/><br/>Open for lunch and dinner, a friend and I came here for a leisurely lunch on a sunday afternoon. When seated we were given complimentary popcorn - I call it sweet and spice. - bit of sugar, cayenne, paprika, cinnamon etc. Great snack and its always a nice surprise when you get a little something unexpectedly. <br/><br/>We chose this place from the rest because my friend is GF and it has a great range of Gf menu items, making it more applicable to diners with allergies/intolerances. Because our choices were based more solely on items being GF, they probably wouldn't have been my first choices but actually I was surprised. The kingfish ceviche was actually really delicious. The fish was cut to a great size which gave it texture and the coconut sauce didn't overpower like most ceviches served. Plus the corn chips were a good compliment. We were a bit disappointed with the chargrilled kumara, although it was tasty we thought for $8 it wasn't the best value for money after we saw the bowl of hand-cut fries and how much was offered for the same price.<br/>The jambalaya was good but not great. Although a hearty dish, I felt like it was just missing that moorish punch of flavour you yearn for. However all the ingredients were cooked to the right degree. If you are looking at heading somewhere for a drink, they have a great list of cocktails, ales and wines. Friendly and knowledgeable service from start to end with quick service.  <br/><br/><br/>Rating<br/>Food: 7/10<br/>Service: 9/10<br/>Value for Money: Good

This is a great place for casual dining. We were a party of about 20 people booked for Thursday evening after work. The place is buzzing, and by the time we were seated at 6.30pm it was nearly full. Not many places are this crowded on a Thursday, which must mean something. The food is really great. The only downside is that they have very limited vegetarian options for mains. Salads is the only thing available. The sides, especially the kumara and the cajun hushpuppies are amazing. The place tends to get very loud, so luckily we were seated right at the back in a corner. I can imagine how noisy it would be in the middle of the floor. I would probably return again with a few friends to try other dishes. The staff are quite friendly and attentive, even though the place was very busy.
Yvonne
My first time at Miss Clawdy. The menu is a little different, but once sorted the food is fantastically good.<br/>However the atmosphere back ground music is far from background &amp; much too loud to be able to have a conversation with company without having to ask people to repeat themselves. <br/>Hey guy's get the message on the volume.<br/>Mark is on food alone.
Lisa Borrie
Love the ambience of this place, lively and fun. Love the popcorn nibbles. Great for a lunch stop. The corn balls are delicious and spicy. I have been a couple of times now and will continue to go. Sometimes the music gets a bit too loud and its hard to talk to your table mates but all in all a nice change of mood. A little overpriced for what you get.

Visited Miss Clawdy on Saturday night, the place was very busy and vibrant. Atmosphere was great but the food was not.<br/>Fish taco was ok but lacked any real flavor.<br/>Southern jerk fried chicken was a fingernail size piece of chicken in two inches of a tasteless batter that had been deep fried to within an inch of its life. A shame really because they have a good looking menu but poorly executed. Guys where is the flavor, where is the spice, I found little of any! The comment from the waiter was that the place was full so there was no problem!!
Fleur Peps
Fantastic.<br/><br/>I really love this place. Yes, it is a tad noisy and a bit cramped, but the food is worth it.<br/><br/>Everything is presented really well and adds to the experience. The menu is nice and basic, which is great.<br/><br/>The food itself is well presented and tastes amazing. I like that the plates are small / cheap enough that you can order a few different things and try several menu items.<br/><br/>Great value for money, fast service and delicious fare. Love it!

Perhaps, having recently spent some time in New Orleans, my expectations of this place were a little too high.<br/><br/>The food was ok, but was not stand-out. The Louisianan "classics", while in no way authentic, were decent enough. There was just no "X Factor". <br/><br/>The cocktails, however, were excellent. <br/><br/>A little work on customer service wouldn't go astray. The guy who greeted us (i.e. looked at us in a completely disinterested manner and turned away) might benefit from some basic hospo training... I should add though that the ladies were all delightful to deal with.
Vanessa Hunt
Had lunch here today waiters were very pleasant. No time waiting so got a table straight away. Had pulled pork and jerk chicken. Loved all my meals. And so more interesting than boring Mexican food. Will go back but not at peak times as it seems from reviews read can be a bit of a wait. Sunday afternoon perfect.
T Pritchard
We enjoyed our food and service was very good. We ordered the pork taco which was fresh, light and tasty. The jerk fried chicken and shrimp po boys were also great. Dessert was ok. Would definitely go back.
Chris
Service - great, staff were very attentive and quick to check everything was going ok. Was also upfront in stating the food would come out at random times so expectations are clear. Also when some dishes contained ingredients we could not eat they were happy to get them remade without them.<br/><br/>Food - ok, expected the food to be a bit better. Quantities were as expected, and there are some interesting flavours being used in the dishes. But just didn't have the wow factor.<br/><br/>Overall an average experience
Olive M
Went on a Sunday night, it was rather busy. 2 or 3 waiters passed us not carrying anything, made eye contact yet did not stop to ask whether we wanted a table. When we were finally seated the waiter wasn't friendly. Portions are small and relatively expensive for what they are. Would recommend the snapper ceviche.
Gusimate
This was a huge disappointment for my wife and I. The service was poor, from start to finish. The food looked great based on a read of the menu -but everything we had was average- to put it nicely. I would have thought it hard to mess up food like this !! Jerk chicken, which was apparently their signature dish, turned out to be fried, similar to KFC but perhaps not as nice. The ribs were tough and bland. This was not authentic southern food and was priced way too high.
Shawn
Popped in for a coffee with my wife but after seeing the menu ordered the kumera side dish and corn fritter side. nomnomnom. Great atmosphere and the girls dressed up in great southern style. Came over with some delicious free spiced popcorn nibbles.<br/>Very nice and will go back for a proper meal next time.<br/> Just one critical judgement was the maitre D' a little more finesse wouldn't go amiss, give your hair a wash bud!<br/>Shawn
Aaron Yap
Omg the southern jerk chicken was so great!! Crispy and good portions for one. Delicious fat chips with amazing chipotle lime dip. Fast service! Prefer Miss Clawdys to Orleans.
Kacie Stetson
Well, Y'all, I got a bone to pick with this so called 'Southern' eatery. I am from the Gulf states of the US and grew up eating gumbo, hush puppies, corn bread, po' boys etc. I've eaten countless gumbos, jambalayas and etouffes in one of the greatest cities in the world, otherwise known as New Orleans. I'm also a mean cook myself.<br/><br/>We went to Miss Clawdy with hopes moderate and appetites in the middling range. I ordered a bowl o' gumbo and my beautiful wife ordered the 'jerk' chicken. We got a fish po' boy for the kid. Also, a side of cornbread. I tried to order an iced tea but was told they don't carry it so that's when I began to suspect that this was no authentic southern restaurant because a real one would NEVER not have iced tea.<br/><br/>Another red flag. The bartender had never heard of a sazerac (a fantastic and traditional Nola cocktail) and I had to teach him to make one. He showed no gratitude and charged me an arm and a leg for the minuscule thing.<br/><br/>Okay. The food came. In phases. We all ate at different times. Our kid got the best of it. The little fish po' boy was good. The wife's jerk chicken (jerk chicken isn't supposed to be fried btw!) was good, she said. But the gumbo...oh my poor dear grandmother turning over in her grave! Awful! Some weird sort of sweet with not an andouiille in sight and full of vinegar?? I'm like, WTF?? Gumbo is supposed to be a mysterious roux-based powerhouse of African inspired flavor and all I got was this really bad bowl of WTF that I couldn't finish. <br/><br/>So, I go to pay the bill and complain about the gumbo and the hostess, who looked like she was 12, was like..."whatever".<br/><br/>Ugh. I hate giving my hard earned bucks to people who don't care.<br/><br/>If Y'all really want good cajun/creole, try the place in Eliot Stables. Now they respect tradition and deliver an awesome, authentic gumbo. Everything else there is good too and they don't rip you off.
Jacqui
Disappointing as I was really looking forward to a good creole meal. Whilst the nachos and cerviche were ok, the jambalaya was bland (tasted like they had just added chillie to rice) and the key lime pie was awful - far too big a portion for one, sickeningly sweet and stodgy and the meringue was flat. On a positive note, the kids meals were really good, decent size and nice not to have everything deep fried. Probably won't go back with so many other good restaurants in the vicinity.
Mike
So visited Miss Clawdy last night and was very impressed with the food, amazing flavors throughout, my Partner and I shared the Jambalaya and the Jerk Chicken with a side of Cajun Hush Puppies (Battered Corn Balls) everything was great. The staff were really friendly, a little pushy on sales but I suppose that's what a good waiter does. The only downside being the beer price, I had a becks which comes in at $8 for a 330ml glass $13 for a 500ml jug and I think a bigger jug also. A normal glass of beer in a bar is 500ml and I would never pay $13 for it. Rant over, I would highly recommend this restaurant and go there again.
Adeline
Good place to visit if you're a small eater and keen on sharing plates with your friends. We had mostly gluten-free dishes (corn chips + guacamole, quinoa salad, grilled fish - without the wrap) and the po'boy pop corn shrimp (which is like a long bun sandwich). <br/><br/>Food was slightly above average (not an 'I died and went to heaven' wow) - particularly the salad and corn chips... though I must say that the corn shrimp po'boy was yum (nice fluffy slightly crispy bun and delectable corn shrimp bits).<br/><br/>Drinks were yum (margaritas and Miss Clawdy's punch), service was commendable (despite it being busy) and prices were affordable. Not bad for Sunday arvo din dins.
Chloe-Mae Repia
Been to Miss Clawdy on many occasions. LOVE LOVE LOVE, just everything about it...<br/>The location...The food.. The friendly staff, The cocktails just NOM NOM NOM.<br/>Would recommend coming here for a lazy after work drink or just a quick bite to eat, food is a reasonable size you always leave full.
Zany
Gumbo is packed with flavour with nice pieces of chicken thigh meat, sausage and prawns. It would be much better if it came with some toasted garlic bread seeing as it costs $14 and the portion of the soup is not that big. The fried chicken was overcooked making it quite dry and brittle. The sauce that came with the chicken is very yummy. The shrimp Po Boy which is just a mini subway style sandwich is very tasty but overpriced at $14 for such a small sandwich. The cajun hush puppies are just fried cornbread that lacked flavour even after being dunked in the tomato relish. This place is too overpriced for what they are selling. For cajun food I'd rather go to the place near the atrium mid city as they offer bigger portions and better consistency in thier cooking.
Fabiola
Great food, great service. Place is clean. the decor is lovely! <br/>All the young ladies were very attentive, filling up the water and checking on us to see if everything was good. The place was full, and vibrant.<br/><br/>I was very impressed with the food, nice and tasty. The chicken was moist and the fish was perfectly cooked with crispy skin. Everyone in our group was very happy. Will come back again, and recommend to everyone!!!
Emma H
Miss Clawdy was incredible! So well priced, the food came out quickly and the staff was friendly. I'm very surprised by the negative views as I really enjoyed this place. Very unique and I'm definitely coming back.
Sarah Jane
We ate here on the weekend, we were greeted by some totally unenthusiastic door staff (too young to know the art of greeting).<br/>Our waiter was equally unhappy to be there.<br/>We both had pork tacos, dry and tasteless corn bread which in my experience is light and melts in your mouth. This was dense and pretty tasteless.<br/>A mango, prawn salad which really had no taste at all.<br/>Really bad experience, won't be back.
Ingrid Grenar
Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. 45 min wait for basically chicken and rice. Bland food. We complained and were offered a discount which wasn't really good enough as our lunch and lunch break had been ruined. The waitress that offered us the discount was rude, aggressive and generally annoyed with us that we had complained. Won't be returning.
Richard Vincent
Unique<br/>Atmosphere was the bomb - food up and down. Girls loved the chicken, I was a bit disappointed but loved the corn bread and hush puppies.
Erica H
Miss Clawdy's is a nice looking place but that's it. The food was very poor. Dry pretty tasteless jerk chicken, dry overcooked cornbread, and dry chewy ribs. Was really looking forward to trying this place, but left feeling very disappointed. Another North Wharf food fail.
Fran Spicer
Great first impressions! Service was good, food was bland and tasteless, partner had the ribs which where cold and came with a lump of glad wrap, I had the beetroot salad which was just plan boring. We won't be returning.
Dani
Finally South American food done healthy and stylish the menu reads as well as it tastes. It's good to see a head chef produce such exciting food new and refreshing ,OK you still have your jerk chicken and hushpuppies but mixed with fantastic kumaras and a very scrumptious snapper and cockles it reallyis a diverse menu. Keep it up Miss Clawdy thank you for a few great evenings and well done boys in the kitchen
Karyn Dobson
Miss Clawdy's rocks! I went yesterday for lunch with a group of five. Excellent wait staff, vibrant, knowledgable and thoughtful. We loved the Southern background music, and cosy atmospheric seating. However, atmosphere aside, the food was an absolute treat; a real change from the usual Auckland style eateries. I had the pork spare ribs and corn bread, followed by the Key Lime pie with Meringue. Regretted offering to share my pie with another, but I could scarcely fit it in. Everyone enjoyed themselves enormously. And yes, the cherry lemonade is fantastic! Same with Miss Clawdy's punch. I'll be back!

I am absolutely astonished by the reviews below. I wish the people who have had a positive experience would also speak up, which I imagine is alot-given how busy this place is. <br/><br/>Went for the first time on a Tuesday night. We were seen to quickly and despite it being full to the brim we were greeted (by a lovely front of house staff member) and offered a place at the bar overseeing the kitchen while we waited for a table. We decided to stay sitting at the bar as we could see what was going on in the kitchen which was fun. The chef, despite being busy, was interactive and friendly. We ordered, drinks, a po-boy, a soft shell taco and the quinoa salad from the attentive, friendly staff member. Our food came quickly given how busy it was. All aspects of the meal were great. <br/><br/>Enjoyed our experience so much that we returned on Thursday. We sat in the same spot and again the two main chefs were interactive and friendly- checking how our food was an taking our dishes. The food again was amazing. <br/><br/>Will be returning this week to try more!

Miss Clawdy's was a bitter disappointment after a rather promising first impressions. Miss Clawdy is easy on the eyes however lacks any real substance. The details put into the fit out and styling don't go unnoticed although neither does the poor service and some insipid dishes. We went to Miss Clawdy's with great expectations looking forward to some soul hugging Southern fare however what we were confronted with was aloof and unapologetic staff, bland although well cooked ribs, an uninspired and bitter papaya salad, 1hr wait for cornbread, forgettable gumbo, and a briny cockle broth bordering on seawater. Miss Clawdy's only saving graces were the delightfully spiced Jerk chicken which packs a punch - albeit a punch from a toddler it was still a punch nonetheless, and perfectly cooked snapper.<br/>Although there were other items on the menu which piqued our interest that we didn't get to try, with new eateries constantly opening up around the city including one potentially in direct competition in Britomart, it's unlikely we will be returning.
Dave Rowlands
Miss Clawdy's was probably the worst dining experience I've had in the last five years. We arrived at 6:30PM to put our names down for a table and and were told a 45 minute wait - an hour and a half later we were seated. We ordered a starter round of food which didn't turn up for over an hour. No apologies were offered, no communication was given about any of the wait times and staff were despondent and uninterested. Further food was expected an additional half an hour. Food was tasty, service was appalling.

Went to Miss Clawdys for lunch today. It was pumping for a Tuesday lunch with good atmosphere, and despite being busy all the staff were friendly and took time to chat with us. Love the cute aprons, bandanas and red lippy on the waitresses too! It's the little things that make an impact. We ordered a heap of plates to share - the fried oyster...po' boy?..., guacamole, and the snapper ceviche were delicious, as was the cocktail - some sort of cherry lemonade concoction with lemonade blocks of ice in it and came in a jug (homemade tasting lemonade, not sprite). Sorry for the vague description, I let my friend order for me! According to my dining companions, the dark chocolate cookie and icecream dessert which came with a wee milk bottle of chocolate milk was well worth it too. Will definitely be heading back there soon, never knew downtown had so much to offer.

Firstly don't understand these bad reviews, I've been back 3 times already and had a fantastic time each time.<br/>The beetroot salad was terrific and a generous portion of jumbalaya to share with my wife was a great idea as recommended by the chef whom which was very nice to talk to and seemed surprisingly calm taking they were exceptionally busy it being Saturday night and all.<br/>Lastly we had the beignets for dessert very yummy as were our cocktails.<br/>Fastly becoming my fave place to eat thanks guys will be back next Saturday.

The good thing about going here for the first time is that you know you don't have to go back again. Let down. Was excited to go, bad service, bland overpriced food. Please get a few of the staff/cooks to go to Sweet Mothers Kitchen and see how it's done.

Dined here last night, what a let down. The ceviche was allright, everything else was terrible. The pork ribs were cold, bland and straight out of the microwave. The 'corn' was over priced and only 2 small slices. Jambalaya had frozen veges. Everything we ordered was just cheap and poor quality on the plate pretending it was flash. The lemonade cocktail was pretty good but aside from that you might as well go to Bonz in elliot stables if you want Cajun. half the price twice the flavor. Get oudda here!

A great place to relax and listen to some cool soulfull music to go with the elegant yet soulfull dishes, the gumbo was fantastic and homemade tacos topped of with beautiful pulled pork. The chefs table is very cool watching the food come together and if your lucky get to taste whatever the boys are making. You can really feel the love here great job will definitely be back :)

It is good to see a different style of food joining the selection of restaurants at North Wharf. We also enjoyed the fact that it is a smaller service oriented bar.<br/><br/>The food is a selection of small plates and platters from the southern USA and for me the hush-puppies, with a cold tap beer was the answer. <br/><br/>The menu pricing makes it great value for money matched with a good wine list.<br/><br/>Will worth a stop.

About time Auckland had such a fantastic affordable and fun eatery .. Southern fried chicken life changing and amazing healthy options .. Full of flavour .. A must visit !!! The atmosphere is lively and elegant .. Staff were very helpful with a vegan option for one of our party. Suit all ages and tastes .. Feels like a place I could make my local !!

Love this place, really cool atmosphere! Tacos, fried chicken and the kumara with macadamia crumble were delicious! Didn't really like the beet root salad but other than that great restaurant! Very fast service!

I love Miss Clawdy's! This is another great place for casual dining that has yummy South American style food. The decor and atmosphere is great, very friendly service and a good selection of drinks. I recommend the Southern fried jerk chicken with chipotle & lime mayo - the best I've ever had (close rival is Mexico's fried chicken)! So crispy on the outside but very moist and tender on the inside. I also really liked the pop-corn shrimp po-boy and their tacos. I liked the pulled pork with green apple and the grilled fish. Try their cajun hushpuppies as well, it's better than the cornbread. As for drinks - give the cherry lemonade a go - yum and very refreshing, the taste of summer! For dessert - try the keylime meringue pie mmm. Next time I go, I want to try the gumbo and jambalaya!

Great American Southern style food - up there in price but totally worth it. The food is great! Best way to enjoy Lawdy's is with friends and with an appetite for sharing. <br/><br/>As others have said - no bookings but there's pretty good turn-over, and I haven't had to wait yet.

Really good ceviche, like the small and large plate selection, fair prices, nice atmosphere - get the sofa side of the table

Miss Clawdy do some great tasting food.<br/><br/>We came for an early dinner on a Friday night - first impressions were, that the interior was great and comfy. Though it was a bit weird when another couple was seated right next to us, when there were plenty of other empty tables around - felt a little awkward but no big dramas as we were here for the food after all! On being seated we were given water and some delicious popcorn. Sounds weird but it totally works. <br/><br/>We ordered the kingfish ceviche (I love ceviche, this was great but could do with more fish), southern fried chicken (amazing), hand cut chunky fries with aioli (yum) and slaw (was a bit too similar tasting to the ceviche but definitely no complaints!) <br/><br/>Recently when we returned we ordered the chicken and ceviche again - but also opted for the braised beef short ribs (oh so good), and the guac and corn chips (good choice). <br/><br/>All of the food is served considerably fast which was great. Dessert-wise, the key lime pie is so good. I'm now on a mission to find taste all the great key lime pie in Auckland. I tried the cookie and ice cream which was nice, but really it's the key lime pie that's the winner. <br/><br/>Price-wise, it's ok. The first time we came we had 2 x cocktails each which blew the price up considerably. But if you're here for some tasty food, you're definitely in for a treat.

Mmmm BBQ short ribs!!! Goddamn that's some tasty stuff miss clawdy... The service was pretty good, the kumara was some of the best I've had for ages, but the hush puppies we're pretty average I'm afraid, just dense and pretty flavorless which kinda sucked but they we're ok when we soaked them in BBQ rib sauce... Saved!!!

The only downside about dining at Miss Clawdy is that they're always busy and there's no booking available! So expect to wait up to an hour for a table. My mate is the head chef and he's informed me that to avoid wait time come at least by 6.30 pm on Tuesday or Wednesday :) Aside from that everything is perfect!<br/>I love the decor, the paper menu on the table and the waitresses' uniforms and make up. The ambience can get a bit loud but it makes up all the energy and fun eating here. Their drinks menu is enticing as well, with lots of choices albeit their choices of delicious jug cocktails being my favorite ($25 for sharing and very very tasty!).<br/><br/>The menu is fantastic... I can honestly say that I've never tried anything here that is disappointing. I highly recommend trying their Popcorn Shrimp PO Boys; it's so good that once we decided to order another one just because! Their Ceviche is my favorite in Auckland (and I've tried a handful number of ceviches in restaurants) with the perfect balance of lime and coconut milk. The jambalaya is definitely star of the menu, tangy, sweet and tomato-ey at the same time. Beef short ribs is a must try; I like how the sauce is not overly sweet like how some places do their ribs. The tacos are definitely safe choices; they never go wrong, my favorite is the fish taco. To wash your palate they have desserts to choose from. I'm not a sweet tooth so I have no favorite, but I can say that they're not disappointing either!<br/><br/>Miss Clawdy is perfect to visit in groups as you can just all dig in and share all the dishes to try EVERYTHING (and you won't be disappointed) in the menu... or simply to just impress your friends (me and my partner managed to impress his parents by bringing them here!).
Amy @ My Dining Journey
Miss Clawdy Kitchen, housed in the new fancy ASB building at North Wharf, is a Southern American style restaurant that has been on my dining wish list for quite some time, and finally, after months of wanting to try this eatery, my friends and I made our way there after a morning of dress fitting.<br/><br/>We went relatively early, so the place was still quiet and we got to choose from the many tables that were available as well as receive attentive service from the wait staff. Our meal started with an alcoholic beverage, and mine came in the form of a green tea mojito. The green tea was very subtle in this drink, but the mixture of mint and lime kept me happy. We also received a small bowl of spiced popcorn which we nibbled on while we decided on what to order.<br/><br/>The style of the menu is made for sharing and we order an assortment to share between the three of us. First up the guacamole with corn chips. A combination of ripe avocado, pieces of tomato, and onion, we added a generous amount of freshly squeezed lemon juice which gave the guacamole a nice citrus acidity. I particullary like the random chucks of avocado and onion that gave this mixture more texture. The corn chips were airy and crispy and we had plenty to accompanying the guacamole.<br/><br/>The kingfish ceviche was slightly smaller than expected but it was delicious none the less. The chucks of raw kingfish, slivers of raw red onion, shallots and coriander, all tossed with coconut cream and lemon juice, was refreshing and a great way to encourage our already big appetite! The corn chips acted as a great replacement for spoons and again, we had plenty to keep us happy.<br/><br/>The southern fried jerk chicken was one of my favourite dish from the lunch. Large pieces of juicy fried chicken, they were crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, the fried coating really helped with locking away the chicken juices. This was paired with a chipotle and lime mayo that helped cool down these spicy pieces of chicken. It may not be authentic jerk chicken, but seriously, some of the best fried chicken in town!<br/><br/>And of course, because we have a habit of over ordering, we decided to get a bowl of their chunky fries, incase the previous dishes didn’t fill us up. These hand cut chunky street fries were served with a generous amount of blackened garlic and pepper aioli. Nicely fried on the outside and fluffy on the inside, these fries were devoured with ease<br/><br/>We felt that we needed some greens to counter our heavy lunch meal and we opted for the iceberg lettuce wedge that was garnished with ranch dressing and crumbled blue cheese. The blue cheese is not your usual pungent sort and it worked very well with the ranch and lettuce. This was topped with diced pieces of celery. Despite looking like that the lettuce was drowning with sauce, this was not the case as we started hacking away. Sometimes, when iceberg wedges are served like this, by the time you get to the middle, all the sauce has been mopped up! But in this case, there was enough sauce for the entire wedge and I really enjoyed it!<br/><br/>I’ve read such great reviews on Miss Clawdy’s, so I’m glad that I went away from this hearty lunch with a smile on my face. Service got slightly busy towards the end of our meal, so it became challenging to get the attention from the staff, which is understandable. I can see myself coming back and having a plate of the fried chicken all by myself, as well as trying their pulled pork tacos and ya ya gumbo!<br/><br/>For other reviews like this, please check out my blog: http://mydiningjourney.wordpress.com/

A group of my girlfriends visited Miss Clawdy for a catch up over good food and cocktails. I love the decor and the staff uniforms. Staff were great, friendly, efficient and adorable. Good at memorising which drinks we were drinking which is a nice change. The free table popcorn wasn't really to our taste but free nibbles is a nice thought.<br/><br/>
We were perched precariously on the high stools, no place to put bags or jackets so these ended up on a pile on the floor. Miss Clawdy, please think of your lady diners, they will have bags and maybe jackets. The busy restaurant floor isn't really a good place to pile these things. A couple of hooks at under the tables or by the front desk would be appreciated. The tables are too close together making it a bit cumbersome for staff to squeeze between tables. The table we sat at was tight for our group of 5. We ordered many dishes to share and ended up having combine food onto less plates to fit. Smaller plates or bowls for the sides would better. Large plates with small amounts of food were a bit annoying.<br/><br/>The menu is short and easy to navigate. Fish taco (didn't try), hushpuppies 4/10, cornbread 4/10, kumara 9/10, jambalaya 5/10, fried chicken 6/10. The kumara was the best, but it's a little worrying when the kumara was the best thing on a Southern US menu. The rest of the dishes were ok, just ok.<br/><br/>However, Miss Clawdy's desserts really shine. Let it be noted, I'm not a dessert person. We ordered one of every dessert on the menu. Key lime pie 10/10, Beignets w butterscotch sauce 9/10, Rhubarb pear cobbler 8/10, Chocolate cookie and ice cream 5/10. I will be back for dessert. Note: The beignets are made for sharing but the key lime pie I could have eaten on my own.<br/><br/>Edit: I came back on a Sunday afternoon for cocktails and dessert. Photos are from my second visit.

I went to Miss Clawdy for the first time yesterday, and am sold. I was worried this was another over-hyped eatery around, but it lived up to my expectations and more. The fish taco was one of the best I've had, and has restored my faith in tacos- it was refreshingly light, and gave that mexican spicy kick which was rounded off with the tang of freshly squeezed lemon, and lovingly wrapped in the slightly crisped tortilla. All the dishes I tried were great but I highly recommend the corn bread for the true South American experience, and the Grilled Fish Taco. I haven't tried the drinks, but I'm definitely going to be back to try them out. <br/><br/>Following visits have left me with mixed impressions on this once glowing establishment. The taco I raved about came out rather bland and boring compared to the first time, and the slaw was heavy on the onions. My most recent visit was again mixed, the gumbo was rave worthy but the pork belly was TINY, it should really belong in the small plates section and definitely not worth $29. The prices of everything on the menu has also increased which isn't very fair if the food quality isn't increasing too.

I have been to Miss Clawdy's several times now and it has always a delight. It can be very busy on Friday and Saturday nights but not too bad during the week. They have done a great job with decor creating a fun and vibrant atmosphere. The menu South and Central American and is similar to Sweet Mother's Kitchen in Wellington with Po Boys, Tacos, Fried Chicken, Corn bread etc. I'm working my way through the menu but my favourites at the moment are the Popcorn shrimp Po Boy, Fried Chicken and Pork Ribs. The Popcorn Shrimp Po Boy was truly amazing with a zesty mandarin mayonnaise. I haven't tried dessert yet as I'm always too full but I can't wait to try the key lime pie.
Two Honest Truths
With hanging wicket baskets, bare lightbulbs, dried flower displays and splashes of colour paired with some great music Miss Clawdy has a warm, vibrant and happy atmosphere. <br/><br/>Southern Fried Jerk Chicken ($14) - easily the best thing on the menu. It’s possibly the best fried chicken we’ve had.<br/><br/>Old Fashioned Cherry Lemonade Cocktail ($12.50) - incredibly refreshing, full of flavour and had the right amount of tang to it. The lemonade ice cubes also meant your drink won’t water down as time passes. <br/><br/>Key Lime Pie ($10) - too sweet and the pastry a little soggy.<br/><br/>I've been to the restaurant a number of times as it had been one of my favourite restaurants in town. This is quickly slipping with food quality lacking consistency and service less attentive and at times brusque during my recent visits.<br/><br/>For more photos and text visit: http://twohonesttruths.com/category/miss-clawdy/

Miss Clawdy is a whole lot of fun. The fit out is cheerful and very cool, the staff friendly and the music vibrant. Some of the menu is excellent, and some just okay, but the atmosphere is great for drinks and Southern-American inspired bites with a group of friends.
