Review Pla Thong Thai Restaurant - Auckland Central

Food is delicious, and the staff is really courteous. Be aware of the spicy level. "Medium" means spicy. We ordered our dishes with medium spicy, and we were fully heated by the end of the meal.

Lovely venue, and great staff. A good range of options, and very filling portions! Definitely worth booking in advance and trying! (Wait time on busy Saturday night 6.45pm ~ 20 minutes) (I got the drunken noodles which was something different to pad thai and worth it)

My experience was great! The food was yum and it was so nicely done! I've been to alot of Thai restaurants but this one beats the quality of food and service by far! Didn't wait long to get served of food either! Would recommend dining at this place for anyone!

I recently tried Pla Thong Thai restaurant and it was a total vibe. The atmosphere was so cozy, and the service was top-notch. But the real MVP was the green curry I ordered - it was delicious. The flavors were bold and perfectly balanced, and the portion size was more than generous. I'd highly recommend this spot to any fellow Thai food lovers out there. Plus, the prices were super reasonable which is always a plus. Overall, a solid dining experience. Can't wait to go back and try more of their dishes.

Food presentation, food serving, ambience, service, menu, price - everything is perfect. I tried one of their Chef's Recommendation. Photo - Red Whiskey Prawns. Tastes really good and spiciness is just right. (Spicy Level: Mild.) Their staff is friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back.

Service: good service. Waitresses were friendly Atmosphere: cosy atmosphere. Tables are close together so you can hear others co conversations Taste: the whisky drunken prawns are amazing Price: 3 courses for 2 people were $120 including drinks

I haven't been to any Thailand restaurants for many years. Pla Thong restaurant was pretty decent one. BBQ children starter was brilliant. Coconut soup was fantastic. The special fish was so so, which was too dry and not very tasty.

The restaurant has been there for years, but we only tried it a few months ago. Have loved the food and now take friends there. Its also become our go to for a takeaway. No hesitation in recommending them. Just had a takeaway and the meal was hotter than requested. To hot for our taste. We called them and they sorted it straight away. That sort of service win's my respect.

Recommend by a friend we decided to try this little place out for a birthday treat The restaurant is small and long in length inside and can be bit congested on busy periods The staff are very friendly and welcoming The food was amazing and enjoyable we enjoyed every bite They do ask if you require mild ,medium or hot We are happy to dine in again I did make a late reservation half hour before we were to go Great with the service Thank you pla thong

So, so good. Excellent service. Fair price. Beautiful restaurant and the food is AMAZING! Note of caution, ‘medium’ is still quite spicy.

Excellent all round!!! The food presentation was phenomenal! The taste to perfection! Mild was mild, medium was perfect! The service was to notch!

Found this restaurant by accident which turned out to be a highlight of our night. Food is gorgeous and staff is super nice, amazing and professional. We ordered red curry, Tom yum and pai Thai, all of them were well presented and tasted amazing, except medium spicy being more spicy than I excepted. Overall a definitely five star.

This the Kao Na Ped (Duck Fried Rice). It was delicious! The food, music, atmosphere and service was amazing. Kind staff with beautiful attire. Really recommend to anyone keen to explore Thai cuisine near Mount Eden. But also worth the travel if you're keen to drive from far away.

We dine here reasonably often and it's perfect each time. We also get takeaways from here. It's nice to come somewhere where you're recognised too (because we've been going for a while!) - makes it that bit more personal.

Great service, good food. One of our go-to local favourites.

Delicious food, and lovely wait staff, food coming was a bit slow but we were a table of 10 so understood it wouldn't be as fast
Sandra Waters
Beautiful food, easy parking, fabulous staff dressed in beautiful traditional dress. Cant wait to go back.

My all time fav Thai restaurant!!! We are regulars to this place and they never disappointed us till now. The best Thai Food in Auckland. Ppl who are looking whole snapper dish, this is your place... you have so many varieties and the food is sooo flavourful and delicious. Even the service is amazing. Hand Down the best Thai food we ever had...

Food is tasty, although on the odd occasion is very oily. Average menu with lots of curry and rice dishes, not many pad thai dishes which is quite disappointing. Restaurant is very small, and the food is quite slow. 4/5

Lovely ambience - don't forget to book as restaurant is quite small. Enjoyed prawn and bacon entree, snapper fillet with black pepper sauce and beef. Service fast and efficient. Waitresses all in traditional lovely costumes. Made for a great evening out.

Taste is definitely a major point to visit this restaurant. Well decorated and cosy inside. We really enjoyed whole snapper , well cooked. It seemed only one waitress was serving the food. Overall it is a pleasant experience.

Having tried just about every Thai restaurant in Auckland, this is my favourite. It’s become a regular family restaurant. Great service and probably the best tasting Thai food in Akl. Will be going here till I die.

Amazing food, service and ambience. Highly recommended to get your Thai fix! All of the dishes are beautifully presented and some of the best Thai food I've ever had!
ASHEATS
Came here on NYE and ordered Seafood Platter and Chicken Satay Skewers for our appertisers and Green Curry with Chicken and Pad Kra Praw with Duck for our mains.
The seafood definitely needed to be cooked a lot longer. The prawns (mainly Goong Hom Pa - prawn wrapped in bacon) were still raw. We advised the waiters, and were given complimentary prawns, which were cooked well and tasted good.
Pad Kra Praw was a bit disappointing too, as it did not have much flavour and there wasn’t much duck.
Overall skewers and curry were nice and had good flavour, but still room for improvement.
Not sure when we would return..

Best Thai restaurant in town!
Massaman lamb curry is their signature dish, never tried better massaman curry than in Pla Thong.
Staff is always very friendly, and interior of the restaurant is nice and comfortable. Good choice of wines. Takeaway and delivery options are available which is a big plus!

Have gotten takeaway from here a couple of times but haven't dined in yet. How refreshing to find somewhere that actually produces quality Thai food. Very rich and flavoursome curries that arent too sweet or watery like what I've encountered elsewhere. Their Pad Thai is better than the usual dishes found at other establishments. Large portions as well, I'm not left hungry. Only reason I'm not giving it 5 is that it is quite expensive... Other than that, highly recommended if you want to pay an extra few dollars for great food.

My parents have praised this place every since it opened and I finally have had the opportunity to dine here for my mothers birthday and all I can truely say is why have I not been here earlier!
The service, the atmosphere and most of all the food!!!

It was the most unique and flavoursome Thai cuisine I have not tasted since when I was in Thailand.
Definitely try the entree Thalay Scallops which just simply melted in your mouth followed with the Chefs Special Red Whisky Prawns and Pad Lui Fire (Duck and vegetables wrapped in flaming tinfoil)

Do yourself the favour and take that someone special or a small group and treat yourself to a exquisite dining experience.

Hire more staff !

Although the atmosphere is great and the decor is excellent we were given a menu and waited approx 20 mins with indicating to the waitress we were ready to order several times within only 5 mins after we were handed the menu

After several attempts in trying to get the poor waitresses attention we left, she was run off her feet with phone orders and serving 3-4 tables at front of house

I'd like to return when you have enough people to service your diners

Thanks.

Review based solely on this experience ^

Absolutely superb Thai cuisine! I have been to many, many Thai restaurants both here and in Thailand, and this is as good as any I have ever been to. Not particularly cheap but with quality food like this it shouldn't be. Lovely staff and great service, I highly recommend a visit!

We were two adults and two children and were seated on a table chosen by a staff on very quite evening... Wasn't quite impressed with that start.

However once seated we were looked after fairly well. I fancied the drunken noodles, corn cakes (a must have) and such a beautiful dessert (something like fried ice cream).

Must specify that the thai place had a good selection of desserts and entrées (especially vegetarian).

The only thing the restaurant needs to work on is the greeting and welcoming part. It lacks warmth and feeling welcomed.

This place is definitely worth a visit! I took my sister who is vegetarian and they have a whole section in the menu for their vegetarian dishes. Well done!
I had the Nua Yang which was divine. The beef and vegetables were cooked perfectly and the marinate complemented the beef perfectly. My sister had a tofu curry dish. She thoroughly enjoyed it, although it was almost a little too spicy to be the mild she asked for. The waitress was very helpful and amazingly dressed in a traditional outfit.

We went here for dinner with our Japanese friends, they really like the foods that we have ordered. Well, the yellow curry is so tasty and the red whisky prawn is yummy as well.. The price is affordable. Nice ambience.. Not busy when we get there so that's good.. The service is fast, good customer service.

We have dined at Pla Thong a few times now and I must say it is one of the best if not 'the best' Thai restaurant I have been to. It says at the front of the menu that the chef has over 35 years experience and it shows, the food is divine. It is very aromatic and there are wonderful taste infusions. The layout provides an intimate dining experience and the wait staff are charming, they wear flowing Thai dresses and it really is a dining experience. We are looking forward to our next visit and consider ourselves to be regulars. A must for any Thai cuisine fan.

The service was great. Food is also good but since I'm thai I feel like the flavour are adapt to more of a western style, but overall is still good. I order the red duck curry, bbq chicken, drunken noodles, pad ka paow. And fried chicken as entree. Portion of food is good not too much or too little. However we ordered two deserts one choc cake and sticker rice pudding. Very disappointing especially the choc cake. Very small for both. Choc cake taste like it's something u could buy from countdown for $2. I think the best part of the dessert was there the slice apples. Apart from desserts. Good food good environment.

Best Thai in town! Always fabulous food. We always try something different and it never disappoints.

Its also a beautiful restaurant.

*****

such a nic food .

Good service. I had pad thai; which was a good portion and nicely presented. The pad thai was not the best I had. It was slightly too sweet for my taste.
Mo Kara
Decent food but the level service is amazing really attentive waitresses. Great recommendations and overall good experience. If you're looking for convenient Thai I think they provide a takeaway service as well. Definitely worth while.

The prawn Tom Zap is outstanding. I ask for hot and it cures all that ails me. Good service, clean tidy interior and I often get takeaway too

Tonight's meal at Plathong, would have to rate as one of the most delicious Thai meals we have ever eaten. The lamb massaman curry was very fragrant and aromatic and the meat so very tender. The chicken pad khing was delicious, and I was raving about it until I tasted the Massaman curry! The decor, service and ambiance were all of a very high standard. We will be back!
Antbooth
Easily one of the best Thai Restaurants I've eaten at in a long time! Plates were heated and curries almost perfectly crafted. I have been twice now and keen to try out Chef's special next visit!
Simone Richardson
Good food with a yum flavour. Tastes authentic. Some more veggies to the rice ratio would be an improvement. Also being so close to my house is nice

We've just had a fab takeaway meal from Pla Thong Thai. We usually go elsewhere but it was shut, and Pla Thong have gained a new Customer tonight! The entree, Thai Red Curry and Pad Khing were full of distinct flavours. The Customer Service was good too. Ideal for eating in, or takeaway .

Best thai food ive ever had. A little more pricey..just a tad more than some other places but so worth it. The service is so great, they remember everything about you. Plus a wine list full of my favourites
Felicity Jane
Absolutely lovely dinner with wonderful service. Great wine list. We were given a great wine recommendation for the meals we chose. A lovely interior of the restaurant too. Will be going back!!

Agreed Rob, the Duck curry is a top red curry not too fatty and should be a signature dish of the chef (formerly of Thai Eden apparently). Beef stir fried dish we had was a bit chewy ie not tenderised but still ok.
Rob
New place. Lovely food. Great service. The duck curry is my fav. There is offstreet parking at the back. Not the cheapest but quality makes up for it.

Have been twice to Pla Thong since it opened in June. It has been very tastefully decorated. The food is excellent beautifully presented and delicious. Curries and pad thai were better than the whole fish. Service was very good There are takeaway and BYO options which make it a great local option. We had no hesitation in recommending it to friends and others. We continued to eat at Pla Thong throughout 2014 it is a fabulous restaurant the curries and drunken noodles are wonderful if you haven't tried them.
