Review Chop Chop - Auckland Central

Nathan
The cured salmon salad and the Koji fried chicken were two of the best dishes in our opinion. Service was quick
Sharon W
Just wow!!!! Fantastic style of seating surrounding the kitchen. Comfortable stools that have sufficient space to spread out a bit. Great menu of food and lots of drink choices. Friendly service and quick. Omg!!! The cheeseburger bun is amazing and the mega ramen.... just wow!!! Great price and highly recommend any time of the day!!!

Great hidden place in Ponsonby Central! The brisket ramen is my top choice.

Nice vibe to hang out with friends or colleagues . The beef brisket ramen is good. People who are big fan of authentic Japanese Ramen may be disappointed as this a fusion ramen place. Great staff and service
Edmund Lee
Had lunch here and thought the food was good. Obviously the ramen is fusion style, so it has a couple of unique flavours. The beef brisket ramen was excellent. The Cobra Kai was OK but definitely had a substantial amount of toppings.

oh man this was one of the most satisfying bowls of ramen ive had. texture of the noodles came out exactly how i prefer them, firm/al dente. good portions. will now be my go to whenever im craving some good ramen 😋

Wonderful little noodle house tucked away in a Ponsonby food court. We were lucky enough to get a table as it was packed. Sat at the counter opposite the two chefs and bartender working their magic. It is always a pleasant sight watching people in flow. They have a wide range of offerings from on the go street food to larger plates / bowls. We started off with the soft crab bun which light and full of flavor. I followed that up with the brisket ramen which was just the right amount of food. It tastes great without being overwhelmingly salty as ramen can be. They are generous with the amount if brisket provided which is always welcome. My SO had the vegetable salad with an add of salmon and that was great! The salmon made all of the difference, the quality of the fish in New Zealand is far superior to what we get stateside. If you're looking for an Asian quick bite packed with flavor, I highly recommend Chop chop noodle house.

The Jerk Chicken and Cobra Kai ramen was tasty. The chicken wasn't overcooked and the favor melded into the broth quite nicely. The location was easy to find as well. The on tap cider was easy to drink and didn't overpower the ramen's denser flavor. The Mai Tai was great as well. They asked us about dietary restrictions right off the bat.

We love this place. There is something cool about it. Small comfy very warming atmosphere. Not loud even tho it is always full. Yummy food. Brisket Ramen is the best I have tried even tho it is not very authentic but i love it more this way. Coconut shake is amazing.. we already been there twice and will be back I think. Service is fast too
Seita
We are regular diners there. Love the pork ramen and their buns. Price is reasonable and affordable. Service is nice and it is interesting to watch chefs cooking our food.

10 dollars for each bun, soft-shell crab bun is amazing. Chicken wings are good, but they’re a little bit too salty for me. Next time will try ramen here.
Megan
nice little place, quite small so seating is close together but works well. Waiters are very nice, often topped up water and cleared plates promptly. Food was very nice and good portion size. Served hot and came out pretty fast
Nicola Richards
Quick service, great to sit at the counter and watch the chefs, good value for money, huge bowl of noodles! I always get the 'chop chang chilli' on the side to really spice things up. Really good place to eat on your own as well
Kajal Patel
This is one of the most amazing ramen places I’ve been to. My partner and I consider it our favourite dinner places. We’re regular customers there. Can’t get enough!!
Marggie Pascua
The seat/table is so small depending on where you were taken. If you order too much it will be a struggle to fit in your table. The ramen aren’t as nice as the other places I’ve tried. The noodles are bit too big. The toppings were quite good though (we ordered the jerk chicken and the beef brisket). The best thing we ordered was the fried chicken wings. The ramen wasn’t too bad but it was just average in taste.

It was first visit to this place . On the outside while the place looks really chill , my main issue was the food as my stomach didn’t feel very comfortable post the dinner there . Since the kitchen is open u can clearly see that the hygiene isn’t at its supreme .
The food was ok, not great. However the one star is for customer experience. Even though the place is small and casual, they don't have enough staff, so the service is slow.

Since the first interaction the staff made us feel uncomfortable and that it was a huge inconvenience letting our 4 year old daughter eat a piece of chicken in their establishment that they didn't sell to us while we eat the two noodles we ordered.

Things got worse as the staff became rude when we asked for a small empty bowl to share noodles with our toddler. Staff was beyond unprofessional, laughing at our concerns and manager was far from apologetic for the poor customer service and seem inadequate for handling this situation.

As a world traveler and foodie this was by far one of the worst experience I had in a restaurant. We come from California, which is very far away and we are visiting Auckland for only a couple days so we are only having 3-4 restaurant picks to enjoy Auckland's culinary experience and to think we spend our money and precious limited time vacation being mistreated by the staff in this place, it is demoralizing.

However, I am hopeful that this review may help you save you from a bad experience especially if you have limited time in the city. There are many other options, I would stay away from this one.

This place had the looks but the charsiu ramen broth and miso ramen broth both tasted identical and flavourless. Disappointing for the money we spent.
Cheapeatobsession
Fantastic ramen for an amazing price! Left feeling extremely satisfied and full! Amazing and helpful service. Loved that you could see the chefs working. Will definitely be back !
Teresa Kaori
The soup was so rich in flavour. Pork based soup with roasted pork belly (with crackling as well). The ramen was quite different from other places. Thinner and crunchier.

Nice little noodle place. They are most always packed during meal times. Tasty food and generous portions.

One of my favourite places in Auckland, beef brisket ramen is very yum. I love the vibe of the place and the way the art up has been made.
Happy Customer!!!
Max
This place is awesome! We felt right at home with the service very welcoming and very friendly .
The food is crazy good, the Cobra Kai ramen is insane! Big chunks of pork belly and juicy chunks of chicken and the broth is one of the best i have had. Extremely good value for $ right here. Our kids loved it as well being able to watch the chefs make the food.

This place was recommended by my friend and it did not disappoint my tastebuds! We ordered the 12 hr organic beef brisket noodle and the koji fried chicken. Both are so yum. Servings are good for sharing but if you are really hungry and have a big appetite then u can probably finish the big bowl of noodle on your own. We ordered the snake bite for drinks which is a lager and cider combo with blueberry syrup - what a brilliant and creative idea! Highly recommended!
Dw.tonyyy
They provide a fantastic qulaity of toppings. I would go to here even they sell the ramen above $23. Toppings are amazing and especailly pork belly ramen is beyond level.
Kylie
Loved the vegie rice bowl. Fresh tasty and full of flavour. Happy with price. Will go again

An awesome relaxed atmosphere for a Sunday afternoon
Sherly Chan
Enjoyed their chicken rice bowl and the fried chicken is yummy and the portion is generous. Have been there for a few times and will keep going there for the fried chicken.
Hayley Roberts
Really delicious vegetarian miso ramen. Was extra nice today because they put in vege noodles made out of carrots, daikon and zucchini instead of the rye noodles. Love the herb and garlic browned butter that melts in the soup.
Cheyne Stevens
We went for the Eat Drink Love Ponsonby menu and the food was delicious! The service was great and pricing super reasonable. Can’t wait to come back and work our way through the menu
Karen Chow
Never fails to deliver delicious ramen (go for the jerk chicken one) and great drinks. My favourite place on a wet and wintry night! Gets busy, but the staff look after you.
Sabrina Hea
Not your traditional Japanese ramen. If you’re looking for authentic ramen I wouldn’t recommend this place. But if you’re looking for something fun and new then I’d try this place out. We tried the beef brisket ramen. Not like any kind of ramen I’ve had before as I’m used to traditional soup bases. They provide a decent amount of toppings and the beef was nice and tender. Service was lovely and I love the atmosphere of the shop.
Denny M
Kojic fried chicken is really juicy and tasty.

Beef ramen is the best ramen in town!! Full of flavour and the beef is cooked to perfection!!
Lucy
One of the best ramen places in Auckland. Located inside Ponsonby Central. The kitchen/bar area is centered in the middle surrounded by bar seats.

Ordered the mega ramen and beef brisket ramen. Both super delicious. The fried chicken in the mega ramen was crispy and a little spicy, the beef brisket was soft and tender. The broth is very flavorful and the ramen is cooked just right, absorbing all flavors from the broth.

Decent portioned. Priced at the upper end but definitely worth what you pay for.

Food: 10/10
Food presentation: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Location: 8/10
Ambience: 9/10
Price $20 per person excl alcohol
One of the best noodle in Auckland. The beef brisket was soft and flavorful. The crispy chicken was crunchy and reminded me of japanese karage. Yummy. The noodle was priced around 20$. Lively atmosphere, good for two to three people group. It was a little bit noisy, but not too bad.

Had lunch with team here on Friday
We got there at 11:45am so we had to wait 15min till they opened up,
Definitely worth the wait !!!
Food was so good tasty hot & delicious!!!
We will definitely be back to eat here!!
Thanks

After trying a ramen dish from Glenfield, I can tell you I was pretty put off the dish that Naruto had made look so delicious.

I had a mate decide to take me over to Chop Chop and tbh I was pretty apprehensive, reason being, I thought ramen was shit. Low and behold Chop Chop has made me a believer! The service is great, the vibe is cool and the pork ramen was amazing!

I managed to have a squiz at what everyone else was chowing down on and two words "ke-en"!

Defs worth a look if you're in the neighbourhood.
Dessie S
I love their beef brisket ramen! The beef is so tender and the soup tastes so good. You need to be early though as there’s lots of people waiting to be seated. Do note that if you are looking for an authentic ramen, this is not the place. But this place is worth a try.
EA.
You can actually see how they cook and prepare your ramen! Hehe Very cozy place and the brisket was the bomb. Will definitely come back. 😊đŸ’Ș
Bonnie Hu
Loooove their Beef Brisket Ramen! More ‘White Ramen’ style than traditional Japanese Ramen but the broth is so flavourful and the beef briskets just melt in your month!! Eggs are also always cooked to perfection with that semi runny yolk đŸ‘ŒđŸŒ White coke is also a must try, one of our faves but all their cocktails and non-alcoholic drinks are divine!
Lynn Le
Good ramen and their fried chicken is to die for!!!
The place can get quite packed and therefore can also be quite loud and hard to get server's attention. Other than that, definitely a good place for date night 💜💜

THE best ramen restaurant in New Zealand so far. Most ramen places I've eaten so far were either too stingy with meat e.g. 1 sliver of meat, or there's too little food overall so I was still hungry after. Not in Chop Chop. Their ramen dishes were filling, and they have a good amount of chunky pieces of meat. And I loooooove meat. And of course, their broth is flavoursome and strong. While the price is just very slightly higher than some other places, I find that it is well worth it. The only inconvenience with this place is you've got to be early for lunch (say 11am) or dinner (say 6pm or earlier) to avoid the crowds because there's not too much seating around and you can't book in advance. And of course, Ponsonby parking sucks like nobody's business but that's not the restaurant's fault. Highly recommended for ramen lovers.

We had a meal here just a week ago. Pretty crowded but to avoid
disappointment, I suggest you go there bit earlier. The place was
quite pleasant. Diners just sit around the kitchen. I noticed there
were one or two small table for two. Service was friendly. We all like the
foodand they tasted good too. Prices were reasonable.

Ordered the Cobra Kai Super Mega Ramen which was packed with a variety of different meat; fried chicken, pork belly, beef brisket, and bacon. The meat were all perfectly tender and bursting with flavour and my favourite would have to be the succulent fried chicken.

The rye noodles were unique and the texture of which complemented the meat really well. The broth was initially a bit lackluster but eventually turned out amazing after the meat and kimchi had really infused into it.

Service was extremely friendly and I appreciated the cosy environment with full view of the kitchen.
Kelsey Simons
Fried Chicken Ramen! So Awesome make sure you add mayo. The chicken is so succulent, I recommend getting a whisky too makes the experience even better. Very busy but has a great buzz. :) I will be back.

Cobra Kai - the most complete ramen in town! Korean (kimchi and spice), Chinese (pork belly and fried chicken) and Western (bacon) fused with Japanese in one bowl! If this does not satisfy your rumbling puku, I don't know what would! I just feel that the bacon could be removed and would still make the dish perfect.

This restaurant takes allergies seriously, so staff ask for any allergies when they take orders.

Our family will always come back here if we are up for a drive to busy Ponsonby!
Chloe
I cannot wait to return to Chop Chop! We went on a Saturday night and were seated at the bench area where we were able to watch the food being cooked and had the pleasure of the absolutely lovely staff at our fingertips. Between us I tried the pork ramen, the brisket ramen and a hong kong kat cocktail as well as a lovely bottle of sav. Absolutely everything was delicious! I couldn’t stop raving about the ramen to anyone whom would listen for weeks afterwards, great environment for a date night or with a couple friends! Cannot recommend enough, great food, great drinks and great staff :)
The Poor Foodie
Gonna have a long review but let’s talk about food first.
I ordered beef brisket noodles. Noodles were rye noodles and chewy. The noodle soup was full of flavour and went well with the noodles. Beef itself was really soft and tender because of the twelve hour cooking but itself was not much flavours (just a really strong black pepper taste). I dipped the beef into the soup before I ate so that it could soak some of the flavours from the soup. The noodle had a really nice and addictive smell and when my friend and I were waiting, the smell made us soooooo hungry.

Last night’s dinner was not that pleasant despite the good quality of food. My friend who ordered crispy chicken noodle was given a wrong order so they told her the chef was making her a new bowl and just told us it would come in 5 mins... 20 mins later my friend was still waiting and asked one of the waiters to double check her order. I didn’t want my friend to feel left out so I was eating my bowl of noodle very very slowly hoping that her bowl would come soon. Later a manager (?) came to us and apologised about giving my friend the wrong order. However she told us that the chef was supposed to make her bowl first but the chef made a mistake again and “still hasn’t made the bowl of noodles” for my friend (apparently the only chef there was busy making noodles for all other customers). The manager asked my friend if she would want to change the order to not-noodle food or still want the noodle, then she would tell the chef to make it.
Omg for god’s sake my friend was starving at that time looking at everyone else having their noodle and what we heard was that her bowl still hadn’t been made O_o
We came here for noodles so we told her that we were not changing our order and just please please give my friend some noodles to eat. 20 ish min later finally her bowl of noodles came and we could eat together peacefully. By the time my friend had her first bite of noodle, we were already in this restaurant for an hour and my own bowl of noodle was cold already. Next to us there were 3 different pairs of couple coming in and finishing their food 🙃🙃 you can see how long we had been waiting.

In the end the bill was on the house and we were not mad at them. We worked in hospitality before also and we understand people do make mistake but nevertheless waiting for food for an hour was not pleasant at all.

However, the thing that made my friend upset was that when they realised that the chef made a mistake again and still hadn’t made my friend’s bowl of noodles, why didn’t they make it straightaway to fix the problem? Instead, why did you come to us and ask us if we would like to change the order?! My friend was starving at that time and if the manager just nicely told her “oh the noodle is coming, sorry for the long wait” then we wouldn’t be that upset. It was not pleasant to hear that the noodle was still not made when you were starving af...

Overall, I think the food was quite nice but for service and how to deal with wrong orders, definitely need some room for improvement

Food:4.5/5
Service: 2/5
Overall: 3/5

I absolutely love Chop Chop for a casual and always delicious bowl of Ramen, it’s a go to at least once a week for something warm, delicious and soul soothing! I can’t get past the broth of the Jerk Chicken - so tasty. Recommend getting extra broth!

Love the vibe at Chop Chop, the friendly staff definitely add to it. They also have a great range of cocktails that all look pretty delicious, but it’s hard to go past their Chop Chop tap larger.

Chop chop is such a cosy noodle/whisky bar among the haven of food choices that is Ponsonby Central. When I say cosy, I mean cosy as it is super packed all the time and you’re sitting shoulder to shoulder on the bar.

They have 4 ramen choices, 2 salad choices, rice dishes and buns.

We ordered the twelve hour beef brisket ramen, cured salmon salad ramen and a pork bun. The pork bun arrived first and was literally half pig fat, not a good start.

However the salmon ramen was very refreshing and had a generous amount of protein (compared to say.. poke). The beef ramen was in a soup, and we found it had a bit too much salt.

Will probably go back to try the other ramen. Good service.
Edd Jan
Went to chop chop last month but I forgot to review ( was so upset to complain) first of all services was alright. But I was ordered mega ramen, broth taste so bland and they served us root of cabbage kimchi was unacceptable. Definitely not recommended to my friends or family will not be back what so ever.

One of my favourite ramen spot! A highschool friend introduced the place to me. The first time I was there I thought the menu is ridiculously pricey, well couldn’t blame me, it is located in Ponsonby Central surrounded by other posh restaurants. But as soon as I saw the serving it was worth it, it could even be shared by two people. Since then I have been coming back to the place, eat my favourite ramens and pork bun. It’s just just a little place and sometimes it’s hard to find a spot and have to wait for a few minutes. Staff are nice and approachable.
Sophie Wilton
This place is damn good. I got the crab bun and corn balls while my boyfriend and friend got the beef and chicken ramen as well as a hallertau each! I fell in love with the pineapple soda which I would absolutely go back just for!
Evelyn Chen
It’s a cool little spot - good service, fantastic vibe, love love love their logo (reads “chop chop” horizontally, looks like the word “lucky” in Chinese characters if reads vertically) - perfect representation of their food - fusion. We ordered 12 hour organic beef brisket ramen and miso ramen, the beef brisket was melt in your moth delicious. I enjoyed the dinning experience and will come back again. However if you are a die hard fan for authentic Japanese ramen, this might be quite different.
Diner8Here
Located inside Ponsonby central food court and is quite a popular multi asian eatery.
Had the wings and soft shell crab here and hate to say the chook wings sauce was far too thick n spicy for my taste and feel it is lost inside, may have been double coated. I enjoyed the Soft shell crab though.
I Should had try some of the soup dishes.
Evannah Kenwright
Service was nothing special, lady was warm and got straight to the point. My meal was good, I had ordered a pork & a crab bao. Nice, but I think it’s pricey for what you’re getting and the quality of the crab wasn’t that good.
Nina Kalkoff
Chop chop was alright. Service was okay, could have been friendly. Food came very very speedy, quite impressed.

Ordered the ‘veggie salad’, nice and fresh, great ginger, but what let it down for me was the pumpkin tempura. Far to much batter, barely any pumpkin, basically eating tempura minus pumpkin.

But all in all was okay. Just not fabulous.
AngryWhenHungry
Go to place for some ramen fusion, specially the pork! Korean style chicken is also the bomb. Ambiance is great đŸ‘ŒđŸŒ. Consistency is key and they seem to be very good at it. Cheers
Summer Wright
Worst ramen I've ever had! Stingy toppings (sprouts, 1 mushroom, 2pc kikurage, spring onion, 1 boiled [not pickled] egg) one small scoop of noodles and watery broth for $16. Go to ramen do if you want nice ramen. This is what happens when Europeans try Asian food once then open a fad store and charge up for meh food. Staff not that friendly and seem like they don't want to be there lol. Corn tempura was ok though.
Hansi Dissanayake
Had passed Chop Chop many times but wasn’t in the mood for ramen, finally decided to go and I regret not going sooner! The portion of food you get is crazy big for the price you pay, I had to struggle to finish my meal! I loved the Brisket Beef ramen bowl, the broth has a lovely peppery flavour, the beef brisket was so tender and the bacon was a nice salty touch. Everything was cooked perfectly, will be coming back again soon because winter is the perfect season for warm ramen!
Fuchsia Dawn Goldsmith
Abysmal service, passable food.
1. Staff took our order twice (before getting most of it incorrect)
2. Drink was missed out (after taking ~40 mins to arrive)
3. Whiskey was served in a glass that had collected a bit of carrot in it
4. One of the meals was incorrect
5. Another meal had hair in it
After years of working in hospitality and customer service, this wouldn't have bothered me if there had been some sort of apology, mistakes happen, but it's how you deal with it that's important. The staff we dealt with were rude, un-phased by the slip ups and certainly not proactive about solving the problem. For this reason, we wouldn't visit again.
Stephanie Kourti
Nice cute little place! Only complaint would be the lack of beer menu (but that depends on your preference). The ramen was so flavourful and tasty! Service was efficient and friendly. Would definitely come back here again!
Y YOU
If you like REAL Ramen then this place isnt for
you. I am Japanese and have had so many ramen in my life but this place served me the worst one ( I don’t even wanna call it ramen)
Soup has totally no flavor and noodle was way too soft . and they put green onion which was really stinky and cucumbers in the soup made 10 times worse... It was absolutely the worst ramen experience in Auckland.
Panini T
Hands down my favourite place to eat in Ponsonby central. Simple and delicious menu to choose from. Went back twice in just over a week and they were consistent with the food each time! And to top it off you guys have the best staff - they need a pay rise! 10 out of 10 yums from me! ❀
Hardysweden
The salad freshens up the meat and lightens the grilled taste and oil, but could have some light dressing on it to add some flavour to the dish. Make sure you add the sauce for every bite of your meat because it adds a tiny bit of sweet taste to it.

Taste - 8.5/10

Quality - 8.5/10

Size - 8/10

Service - 7/10

Price - 8/10

This is one of our fave food places in Auckland and we only have a few on our list! The photo doesn’t give justice to how good is the food in ChopChop (the place doesn’t really have lights made for instagram). Service was excellent too!! It makes dining a really pleasant experience since the crew gives stellar customer service! We had Beef Brisket Ramen & Crispy Pork on Rice which were yum!! Serving size has improved too... i think! A 4.5 for me!
Paoi Reyes
Ramen was amazing! I got the Twelve Hour Organic Brisket which had extremely good flavour. The noodles were perfect, not soggy and had a bite to it. The beef was tender and falling apart. Adding chili and kimchi made it extra awesome.

Look and feel was good as it makes you feel that you are in Asia. Not much space which makes it feel cramped but the food did compensate for it. Also, since you are overlooking the kitchen, makes you realise how unorganised the staff was, they got our order wrong 2-3x and noticed
that a few mix ups were done as well. We had to follow up our side dishes (chili and kimchi) a few times as they forgot. We got sparkling water instead of still water. Also, service takes ages. We almost finished our meal before we even got the Crispy Fried Chicken Wings that we ordered. Thank goodness the food makes up for the staff.
Phu Jennie
Service was good. I have been tried a lot of ramen around Auckland, but here make me disappointed. I ordered mega ramen, soup was no taste plus I don't think that any restaurant in AKL served customer cabbage root. Definitely will not return
Dennis Kee
We ordered a pork ramen and a crisy chicken ramen. My pork cutlets were basically roast pork. The roast pork they used were prepared beforehand and reheated on the grill so the crust was not quite crispy enough and my pork were not seasoned evenly. I ended up with a few perfectly seasoned ones and a few overly salty ones. The chicken was cooked better than the pork. Texture of the noodle was just a little on the soft side but reasonable. The broth from both dishes were definitely Asian tasting but didn't taste like traditional Japanese broth. Overall I think the ramen here are above average if you grade it like any Asian noodle. But if you are after traditional style Japanese ramen I will recommend places like Tanpopo or Ramen Do. The ambience of chop chop reminds me of one of the small yakitori outlets in a back street of shinjuku. If you like that cozy and slightly noisy ambience you will love the setup here.
Alice S
Chop chop is my go-to winter restaurant. It's relaxed and easy, a good view of the open kitchen and has food to die for! I like to order the Koji fried chicken and the "Hong Kong cat" for a simple yet delicious dinner. Staff are always friendly and the food is generally prepared in good time.
I'm A Foodie
My friends and I came here several months ago. We ordered ramen, soft shell crab bun and fried chicken. The bun is good, but the ramen isn't really authentic Japanese style. The fried chicken is a bit greasy.
Claire L
You will not get the authentic Japanese ramen at Chop Chop. Soup was quite salty and $10 for an average bao is overpriced. Will not visit again. Nothing special about the place.
Sunny Gill
Fried Jerk chicken ramen accompanied by the ambience of the restaurent of sorts was an experince I would recommend to everyone! Food menu was short and simple which was much appreciated.
Tanz
Good Services,Nice design, good food, fast service, price a bit high but acceptable. Note: they do good ramen, but not authentic Japanese ramen, it’s a innovative way of making ramen, fusion of Asian best things.
Could be better if more choices are available.
Thom
Chop Chop is quite a great place for me because their noodles are different and delicious.
Very nice atmosphere, it's a great spot for get together casual dinner
Raymond Tiong
Came here on a rainy Tuesday night with two friends and high expectations. While we were full and mostly enjoyed what we ate, admittedly I was a bit underwhelmed with the food. In future, I'll probably stick to more authentic noodle joints like Ramen Do or Tanpopo.

My Pork Ramen was nice and I liked their generous range of toppings. The noodles themselves were also fresh and had a nice texture. While I was eating my ramen, I found it to be quite salty. But strangely the saltiness wasn't from the broth, which lacked the richness and bold flavours I expected. Can’t quite put my finger on it.

My friend’s Vege Salad looked good. It comes with soba noodles but no soup, so it would be good option if you don’t want to feel bloated after your meal.

All three of us tried one of their buns. I got the Pork Bun, which had a tasty fluffy bao and was easy to eat because it wasn’t stuffed with too much. The buns weren't that big, but they did make for a substantial appetiser.

Service here was decent, and I can definitely see the appeal of coming to Chop Chop on a cold night as they have the heaters on. It's worth a try if you’re in Ponsonby and craving noodles – but for those looking for a regular ramen spot, there are definitely cheaper and tastier eateries around town.
Andi Yaco
Very rude person on the till we asked if they do takaway told us to go the asian food court, well guess what they do better service then your rude mouth.
Mei
We came in from the cold and ate ramen. How good is that? She had the pork ramen. She was surprised to see authentic Chinese roasted pork!!! I had the miso ramen but should have had some meat instead. Was not busy on this Tuesday night. Was interesting looking into the central kitchen area. Staff was friendly.
Anna
Chop chop is hidden by a curtain, located in ponsonby central with dim lights and limited seating. It's not as accommodating for groups of friends and more of a quick eats for a couple. We had mixed service. We had two waiters, one which was very helpful and another that wasn't.

Food was good, and the portions of the Ramen were reasonable & presentation was on point. The Pork Raman & Beef Raman are well flavoured. The fried chicken was tasted and complemented the ramen well. I felt like the price you are paying for Ramen & Fried Chicken were more on the expensive side, but this could be the Ponsonby location.
Nico B. Valderrama
Had Pork Rice Bowl for lunch. The pork belly was cooked well. The skin was crispy. I thought the kimchi mixed with the rice would not go well with the pork, but it actually did. It was served with bacon but would have preferred it crispy and in bits to complement the bowl mix further.
Cecilia Wu
We ordered pork ramen and miso ramen for lunch, soup base for pork ramen was nice, but pork was in big chunks and it was hard to chew; not the traditional char siu pork. Miso ramen was a bit bland.
Yahihi90
Noodle was really nice and service also really good. especially when I had beef noodle I fall in love with this. of course my friends loved chicken one! I recommend here
SJ
Had the beef brisket ramen bowl, this was ok. Presentation was beautiful and everything was cooked perfectly. Definitely enough for two people. The fried chicken with yum yum sauce is AMAZING! I would eat this dish a million times over. Overall, atmosphere was great, service is efficient, staff are friendly and the homemade pineapple soda is the bomb.com. Will most definitely be back for the friend chicken.

Got the Pork Ramen and Beef Brisket between two on a Thursday night.
The Pork ramen was quite salty for my liking, but nevertheless it was satisfying. There was a generous portion of crispy Pork belly, which was impressive.
The beef brisket was less salty but heavily seasoned--strong peppery flavours coming through.

The bowls themselves are massive; so the portions are quite filling. I would've preferred more soup to noodle ratio though, and if it were hotter.

I would come back for their other ramen!

Price: 8/10
Food: 8/10
Ambiance: 9/10
Service: 8/10

Staff are very friendly and accomodating. Me and my friend tried their beef ramen which is superb and the serving is good for 2, but my favorite is the soft shell crab in a bun and the snake bite drink. We ask the staff for food recommendation which is good because they know what they serve. đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ‘đŸ»

My first time coming here. Love the bar seating around the kitchen and overall vibe, very cozy. Though a little bit dark so a quite difficult to read the menu. It got us very hyped up for the food. To start, the Koji fried chicken was amazing. Juicy, piping hot, and crispy on the outside, paired so marvellously with the mayo and chilli sauce. I had the pork ramen, which had bouncy noodles and served with meltingly fatty crispy pork slabs, but I personally found the broth a bit strange at first due to the sourness of the pickles. The broth of the 12-hour beef brisket noodle was better to me, but some chunks of the meat were a bit chewy. Delicious overall, but definitely not your average traditional ramen. A point that came from my friend who ate the beef ramen and myself is that the broth was too salty, we both felt very thirsty and had to chug down a lot of water afterwards. Both ramens came in huge portions with very generous servings of meat. Service was friendly to boot.

Love love love the ramen broth and the crispy pork crackling of their pork belly bun. Their fried chicken is great too. Came here for dinner on a cold winter's night and was seated just below the warm fuzzy heater, which was great. It was fascinating to watch how our food was prepared as it is a bar top dining concept with an open kitchen. Chop chop is great for casual dining and drinks.

I quite enjoyed my experience at chop chop. The chicken wings and Raman noodles were very good but the service was average. There was a great atmosphere and there was good heating.
Overall I had a good experience:)

Came here with a friend tonight for dinner. I ordered the chicken rice meal and my friend the same except vege. Both were yum and a nice thing to have on a winter night. The atmosphere was cool, but perhaps the seating could have been a bit more comfy but not really an issue. I ordered a homemade ginger soda which was not your usual ginger beer(strong ginger punch) but still delish. The waiter also warned me that it was quite a spicy ginger incase I wanted to change my mind before hand which I thought was good. Good service and welcoming upon arriving and nice staff. Overall good experience

Been here a few times and the food is always great! Not to forget the fantastic customer service . I had the Koji fried chicken (photo included)and rice (no photo) My partner had a customized Jerk chicken Ramen. (Photo included ) (She prefers chicken on the side rather than in the ramen) (Some vegetables have been removed from the ramen by request due to allergies ). Good size portions, the food quality is consistently good or great . The staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. Recommended Chop Chop in Ponsonby Central to anyone looking for a Japanese fusion type meal . The total cost of both dishes was $37 including a large bowl of rice (easily enough for 2 people )

As part of The Blue Breeze Inn you can only ecpection greatness and that's certainly what you receive. Amazing value for money, delicious food and cold drinks! A great after work casual food and watering hole to go to.

Brilliant, delicious, needs more seating. Can't go wrong with the ramen, I though the eggnet was pretty average. It is always full but so worth the wait. It's an open kitchen with the bar around it so you can see exactly what's happening which I enjoy.

Nothing beats a good bowl of Ramen on a cold winter night. I'm a big fan of restaurants that let you sit around the kitchen and watch as your food is being made.
We ordered theKoji fried chicken, Pork belly ramen and the 12hr beef brisket ramen. We got big generous chunks of fried chicken that was both crispy and juicy. My beef ramen was YUM. The beef was so tender it just melts in your mouth. The soup was warm and peppery - just what you need to warm yourself in winter! The pork belly was nice and mild so overall both ramen complemented each other well. My husband ordered some Old Forester whisky as well.

Overall a great hearty meal. 2 ramen bowls (with leftovers for tomorrow), one fried chicken and a glass of whisky for $60 is not bad at all for Ponsonby standards!

I thought someday i would outgrow ramen, but man was i wrong.! My partner recommended visiting this place, because he knows how much i love Asian cuisine. It is really very difficult to express it in words how much satisfaction has the food here gave me. My soul has has been saying Thank You to Chop Chop ever since we ate there.
Me and my partner visited on a Wednesday night (mid-week cravings). Despite it being crowded even during the weekdays, we managed to get seated as soon as we got there. Its right at the end of the alley of the Bird on the Wire.
The kitchen is right in the center and the stools are seated around the kitchen table. You can actually see what the chefs are doing undivided by any material. We ordered Crispy Fried Jerk Chicken ramen noodles and Miso Ramen accompanied with Old Forester (House) whisky. Ramen cant taste better than this. The veggies on the top are fresh and crisp, the friend chicken is perfect and the soup let the noodles absorb all the flavors. It is completely filling and it perfect for dinner.

I give you guys a 100 for service, food, drinks, everything. I am love with this place and my love for Chop Chop is irreplaceable. :)

Tip: Have it there rather than take away. It has a nice relaxing vibe.

LOVE this place. Only downside is that there could be a bit more seating but this is probably hard for them to achieve. Ramen bowls are to die for

Just a lovely spot for a lunch or more. Noodle and buns with Asian inspiration. Pork Ramen, 12-hour braised brisket Ramen and even the Barley Veggie Ramen is worth trying.
However, if you prefer Japanese style Ramen, with rich soup and beautiful flavor, pork beef more tender texture, Chop chop noodle is a bit different. But it is still favorable, young and fun!
Don't miss the Korean style fried chicken, crispy skin and tender inside with a little bit of spicy and creamy sauce, it turns out perfect. It reminds me of Noodle Bar in "Beijing 1949". (If you have a chance travelling in Beijing, you can try there)

While I'd be no expert on how authentic this ramen tastes, the broth is certainly very tasty. I thought the service was pretty commendable for this type of environment. We were greeted very quickly despite the small place being very busy and found seats at the bar. Menu was a bit all over the place, but well suited to Ponsonby, including an impressive spirits menu, with a few whiskeys, and tasty cocktails, though no whiskey cocktails?! The cocktails we had we did enjoy highly. Good evening spent, though a little ambience lost by essentially being in a busy- albeit nice- foodcourt.

First time at Chop Chop. Was told to try it out. It's my friends first time as well. I love the vibe and the atmosphere. And since it's also and Izakaya , the vibe there is good .
Food portion is good. A bowl of noodles is definitely more than enough.

We had snacks and the main meals
Snacks : we had the beef bun and fried chicken
Where as my main meal I had pork noodles. It's a big bowl and if fills me up. The amount of pork is a lot and it's a good thing.

I highly recommend you guys to try it if the vibe and the large potion is ur thing.

If you're very hungry, or generally have a huge appetite (and love ramen), this place is where you'd want to be. The flavour of the noodles/broth are decent - not my favourite, but that's just my personal taste. My mates enjoyed the flavours.

Like a typical ramen dish, it'll come with some sort of meat topping. This is where it gets crazy! Chop chop's ramen comes with a super generous portion of meat, on top of the ramen. I ordered the Jerk chicken ramen (very tasty chicken, btw) - and it had 6 medium sized chicken pieces!

My sister ordered the pork ramen, and it came with two big slabs of pork belly. My mates tried the beef brisket, and the pepper seasoning was a bit of an overkill - so unless you're a pepper fanatic, maybe steer clear away from that dish.

We also had the Koji chicken and it was yum! Highly recommend it if you're craving fried chicken.

Note: if you have short legs and find it uncomfortable when your leg dangles off a chair, you might want to do takeaways. I had the most uncomfortable time during dinner, as my feet couldn't reach anything to prop up against :(

Came here the other week spur of the moment with 3 other people. We decided one 2 pork belly soups, one beef brisket soup & spicy pork rice bowl. I thought the food were pretty pricey for what you got. ($18-$20) food was nice but can go somewhere way cheaper for half the price. Wasn't really anything that blew me out of the water. Area is pretty small and crammed full of people. Second time coming here. I probably will come here another time to try other items off the menu đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïžđŸœ

Ordered the smoked brisket bun and my friend had the twelve hour organic beef brisket. Both dishes were delicious and full of flavour. The staff there were also really nice and friendly. They were happy to add lemon to our sparkling water. Would love to try other dishes next time.

After a few visits I believe I can make a fair comment on this place , instead of just quickly jump on the review after 5 mins being there.

The first time we love it. Great atmosphere, watching your food being cooked and the beautiful cooking of fresh noodles made is even more hungry. We were recommended to order a bowl of ramen to share so we have room for other things. So we ordered the Chop chop ramen (with a bit of everything) and some fried chicken.

Second time we decided to order proper ramens (since the last one we had was a combination one so we felt ther was too much going on and couldn't really taste the soup)and don't share it with each other (as I don't think it's satisfying to share a bowl of noodles. Something's are better have on your own ). We ordered the chicken noodle and the pork noodle.

Well, when we had a proper chance to try out the soup and the noodles, we were quite disappointed. The soup itself was intact nothing but grease, fat and msg (or similar substance). It's uninspiring and lack of flavour. But it's enough to make your mouth dry and keep drinking water (the yucky feeling when you had too much greasy food or food with too much msg).

The seats are too close to each other , especially the corner ones. It's way to awkward to be too close to a complete stranger. I know they are trying to create the same theme as you would expect to see in a noodle bar in Japan. But there are a few small but crucial details they missed.

For example, you have to hold your bag in your lap the whole time and worried about it slipping off. If this is in Japan, there will be little hooks under the table so you can hang your belongs while dining. Also the musics are too loud that you can't even have a decent @conversation with he person next to you. I guess they were trying to make it that this is not the place for chats and catching ups but a quick stop got noodles.

The drinks sounds better than they taste.

So if you haven't been there yet, go and give it a go. I'm sure the first time experience would be quite pleasant for you.

But unfortunately for us, it's just another posonby central disappointment.
