The waiter was slick and fantastic. Very professional and extremely helpful. The food was good. More towards a New Orleans/Asian/Salad fusion. The ribs were delicious and were slightly burnt for the Smokey flavour. Skirt steak wasn’t as tender as I usually like my skirt steaks. Pulled pork was nice, but don’t have too much as it is quite rich. The prawn tacos were spicy and delicious, one of my favs here. Salmon was cooked throughout, should be slightly pink. The salad didn’t work with the salmon. The fried chicken was amazing, perfect crunch and tender thighs, match with the sauce and lemon was perfect texture. Kids meal Mac n cheese with fries was great too. My daughter loved it. They are also on first table! So all the more better! We booked for the new years Eve set menu and arrived slightly early, our table was already ready so we walked straight up and were seated quickly. The menu options were a good range of different dishes and we ordered a variety between the 2 of us. They were more than happy to offer side plates so we could share the different courses. The beef starter was lovely and was followed by the Korean chicken and tuna which was great to be able to share the 2 options. The chicken was a perfect balance of hot and tasty and the tuna was fresh and lovely. Onto the mains where we got both the beef and the pork belly. The pork was probably the pick here as the beef really needed the accompaniments. We got both the fries and slaw as sides and they were very tasty and good portions to share. Finally we had the a banoffee pie and a key lime pie, these were tasty but not exquisite, given the busy night I imagine that was to make serving a little easier. We were overall very happy with our choice for the final meal of 2018

Good food but not fantastic. The ribs were tasty but a little dry, beef brisket could be better if it's a little more tender, pulled pork was really sweet, tuna poke was nice and refreshing, prawn taco was interesting a little sour than we thought. Good view from the restaurant on a nice evening~

The food was good! Although a bit more on the pricier end (it's princes wharf) and a bit smaller than expected portion for the price (although the platter is solid Gold!) Dessert was fantastic, and that ocean view is just fantastic. Great place to have lunch on a day with beautiful weather.

What can I say, this place is amazing! High standard in food, service and quality. Very good location and view, amazing food and the crew was so attentive to our order, and always checking “Is the food good?” “Is everything alright?”.. The broccolini taste so good, highly recommended! on top of that I got a extra treat from my dessert order 😍 we’ll surely return!

Most delicious charcoal roasted kumara dish! The cauliflower was also incredible and massive. There is a separate vegetarian menu, so make sure to ask before ordering as the main menu is very meat heavy. Great atmosphere and view of the Harbour. Staff were friendly and efficient with table service. Thoroughly enjoyed dinner at this place and will be back!

Had our staff dinner recently and found it to be a great space & location for groups. The service is friendly, accommodating and professional. It is very tidy and open, plenty of room indoors and it extends to the outdoor area were you get a view of the harbour. We had the festive menu sharing plates for a group of 20 with the added broccolini and the Mac & Cheese. The pork belly corn dogs are unique and very tasty, shrimp & grits also good, the mains were plenty with a selection of lamb & pork ribs with smoked brisket. It all comes with slaw, buns and sauces. Personally I found the desert wasn't up to the quantity standard of the festive menu hence the 4 stars. other then that definitely worth another visit.

Nice buzzy vibe on a Thursday lunchtime. Loved the prawn salad which was tasty and crunchy and liberally covered in dressing without it being too much. Service was good and we envied the meat platter on the table next to us.

@firsttable : A family birthday dinner at @theculpepernz with four full tummies, great love for the 16hr wakanui brisket and the boston butt pulled pork that had us finger-licking! Glory Bay salmon was a lovely delicate dish, very nice with citrus on the side as well as the tuna poke that cut through the summer heat. Yummy beer battered fries and just had to get the cheeky corn dogs too, of course! Ended with the usual favourites of key lime pie and week pie, cherry and chocolate. They got us hooked, we will be back soon! 😋

A great experience. Excellent waiters who were very attentive. Service was very fast. The food was very good, we had the two person sharing board. It was a little heavy on the sauce but there was a huge amount that I struggled to finish. Finally, it is in a great location.

Went there with highly expectation but bit disappointed. first we didn't get greet but the staffs were chatting at the counter. then we got seated but no one came back to take our orders and follow up. we ordered few snacks to share and waited quite awhile and they came out separately. taste was average and one of the dish was bit salty.But thank you to the waitress she at least did table check with us. It was my friends birthday but sadly she<br/> wasn't surprised with the meal.

One word ~ HOT WINGS 🔥 🍗 A group of us popped in here with a first table booking and had an amazing time. We were immediately looking at the daily specials and without a second thought ordered a big batch of the special they had on that day which were the spicy wings..and a second round soon after. They were insane! Tangy, spicy and smothered in hot sauce! Alongside, we ordered fries, and another dish I can’t quite remember which I think they maay have now take off the menu. For dessert, we wanted to try two of their pies ~ keylime and the banoffee. No complains whatsoever. Their service was really good too. Popped in here for a second time a couple of months later for a happy hour and the atmosphere was real busy and hyped too. Located conveniently on Princes wharf and lovely interior too

this was handsdown the most amazing food i have possibly ever had in auckland. the best experience in a resturant - staff were amazing - kind, welcoming, understanding and patient. service was fast and up to the highest standard. the prices were set "low" considering how amazing the food was and how high quality the ingredients used clearly were. the fries, bread, brisket, salmon... everything was gorgeous, melt in the mouth and so so so good. our waitress accidentally forgot to enter one of our drinks onto our order and ever so patiently and understandingly brought the drink in a matter of minutes. such a warm and welcoming area with literally the highest quality of food possible. simple is really the best. big respect to everyone that has cultivated what goes into The Culpeper.

Came here for a birthday dinner as a treat expecting some great food and great service. <br/><br/>However, our experience was very different.<br/>We booked through First Table, as we have in the past for other restaurants and had no issue.<br/>Upon asking about some clarification of what exactly was on offer through the First Table deal, we were rudely told the many items which were not available to us. This is a normal process as many restaurants do not offer certain meals for various reasons, however, the manor in which this was explained to us made us feel unwelcome.<br/><br/>We ordered Oysters to start, all of which were shucked poorly, resulting in pieces of shell throughout.<br/>Next was their fried chicken which was actually quite nice. The best of the night.<br/>Mains were: <br/>Pulled pork and slaw - Half of the pork was just fat. Served on a very narrow chopping board made for awkward eating.<br/>Wagyu Cheeseburger with hand-cut chips - Burger buns were poor quality and not toasted, once again served on a chopping board, which generally wouldn't be an issue, however, the burger was very full of water for some reason (see picture). Half of the chips were dry and just tasted like an overcooked oven potato. The burger also had an odd spice to it, not something you'd expect with a cheeseburger. <br/><br/>To sum up, it seems like this restaurant is more focused on its appearance than its quality.<br/><br/>Overall disappointed with both the service and the food. Even after paying half price for most of the meal, still didn't make up for the poor experience

Service was decent. Ambiance was good. <br/>We had the set menu (entree + main). The fried chicken and salmon salad taste good as entrees. But the mains (fish, chicken, pork mains) they were tasteless and the portions were quite small compared to the entrees. This place does not deserve overall reviews > 4 stars. I was quite disappointed as it was me who suggested to have lunch at this restaurant.

Tried the long hour basket something, salmon and tacos vege which you could get a taste of fresh salad from Thai or Vietnam. Both main dishes are awesome and quite fulfilling. If you can make it on Tuesday, I would recommend to try the 25$/ppl pork ribs. They are tasty, go well with sour pickled and some chips

Went here on my birthday night, which was a Tuesday (so not busy), yet they had “sold out” of mussels (absolutely my favourite and was looking forward to try it) and flounder. Utterly disappointed, I’ve written a complaint email but no reply.

Food looks decent, but that’s where it stops. Fried chicken batter was all separating and falling off the chicken, tasted really really greasy and oily, was crunchy but flavourless (if you put the batter back with the chicken after they all fell off). Beef brisket and the slaw were EXTREMELY salty! We couldn’t get through much of it because of the saltiness. And then salmon was the only one that wasn’t terrible, but cold and blend, no flavour in the broth. Waiting staff needs more training, asked to bring meals out by orders and got these all came out at once and food were all cold at the end. To be honest this is our most disappointed meal of 2019! Only giving 2 stars cause the atmosphere and location is nice, but their food didn’t live up to match the atmosphere and being Euro’s sister restaurant.

Homely setup with wooden accents in the seating area, and seats with cushioning adding to the cosiness. <br/>We ordered one small and two large plates.<br/>Small plate was the prawn and okra hush puppies. It was much softer than I anticipated but the prawn, okra and batter worked well together, meshing into one another and delivered a firm component. The dressing was a great accompaniment really providing the flavor, but even without it, it was reasonably seasoned, slightly spicy, and best enjoyed hot. It’s not something I’d reach for again as the batter mount was a little more overpowering than the prawn and okra. 3.5/5<br/>Large plates were the smoked beef cheek and while yellow belly flounder. <br/>The beef cheek was very tender, super easy to chew and extremely smokey with sweet notes infused to calm the smokiness. It was cooked very nicely. It also had a side of crunchy, buttery kale which had a velvety taste (so good!) but the wet kale (from the mash) was a bit less appetizing. The potato mash was light and smooth, not too salty and complimented the smokey beef very well. It was the right consistency-not thick or watery. 4/5<br/>The whole yellow belly flounder was beautifully presented. My first bite was of a grape and boy was it BUTTERY. Who knew buttery grapes would be so delicious with its tang mixed with salty butter? The fish was lightly salted, soft and tender with a crunchy skin, but definitely grateful for the lemons on the side-the tang made it better, otherwise it did get a bit dull and plain. The almonds were a fantastic touch, they were thin slices that added crunch and texture to the meal, a very good addition! 4/5<br/>Overall, this is a nice place to catch up with friends but I didn’t feel super welcomed by staff, and if it wasn’t for the first table booking, the food wouldn’t quite have been as worth.

I’ve been here a couple of times- most recently for an event, in which Gareth Stewart was cooking - needless to say, it was DELICIOUS.<br/>The time before that was the unlimited ribs- to which they had run out, so we didn’t get any ribs...<br/>The time prior to that was a dinner with friends, it has great views, but the food is perhaps a 7/10.....<br/>Not overly impressed, but not dissatisfied either<br/>The donut dessert pictured was from the event, and Omigod it was amaze

Came here to celebrate a birthday! Especially worth it if you come using first tables (although a big portion of the menu is excluded). If you want to bring your own cake it’s also an extra $25 dollars to cut the cake!<br/><br/>The vibes of the restaurant were nice, with a lovely view of the wharf. It does get chilly at night, so remember to bring a warm jacket or something to cover up!<br/><br/>The food itself was amazing! I highly recommend the beef brisket and the fried chicken (especially when you dip it in the rib sauce). <br/>Personally found the corn dogs a little confusing cause they were savoury but it also tasted like there was chocolate sauce on the top as well (?)<br/>The donuts were fun to play with (and very hard to inject without making a big mess) and is a fun dessert.<br/><br/>The service was a little lacking - it wasn’t extremely busy but the waitress seemed quite cold. She did what she was supposed to but just not super friendly. <br/><br/>Food: 4.5/5<br/>Service: 3/5<br/>Ambience: 4/5

Came here as part of the First Table lunch deal.  We sat outside facing the water and the setting was nice. We received good service from the staff members and all our meals were nicely cooked and well presented, although they were not jumping out as the excellent or extra special type meals.  All in all we were satisfied with our experience and we hope to come back for more.

Finally trying out Culpeper, the food is great but the service was average, it took them awhile to notice I my hand up for more water.<br/>•<br/>Lemon BBQ squid taco 9/10, ($17).<br/>The flavours were super yummy, creamy from the siracha mayo and a charred smokey flavour from the squid. Thank goodness it was in a lettuce wraps which cut through all the grease. At the end of the meal my whole plate became a pool of oil.

Food was good but not amazing, menu looked super attractive (comfort food) but the actual execution was not the best. Few examples was the slow cooked brisket had a few tough bits throughout, the hush puppies were ..... "stodgey", choc filled doughnuts had an over-powering taste of "yeast", potato rolls were very tough and chewy and the banoffee pie was a wee bit average.<br/><br/>The shellfish sharing dish however was amazing (like very very good) and the service was top notch, meals were brought out at a fast pace which is always good when your hungry!<br/><br/>

Food: 4/5<br/>The Korean spicy wings were very nice, a good crunch and a good amount of sweet, sticky sauce. The skin on the Pork Belly was crispy as advertised. The flavours worked well together. However, the dish was alot smaller than I expected, considering it was a main dish.

First of all I’d like to say there were no issues with the food- we all raved about it and I personally thought the mac and cheese was perhaps the best I’ve ever had. Our waitress was diligent, attentive and had no problems tending to our group of nine.<br/><br/>The night soured dramatically however when it was time to pay. Both my friend and I had entertainment book cards, which gave us up to 40 dollars off per card and were planning to use them together to pay for the meal. When we went to do this at the end of the night, the restaurant manager flat out refused for us to do so. Initially, we tried to clarify that the discount was a combined value of both cards, but he was completely dismissive and made it clear that the only discount possible was up to 40 dollars (so 25 percent off of one card). This made absolutely no sense because the word ‘combined’ in the ET book terms and conditions clearly suggests an accumulation of more than one. We proceeded to advise him that we had used 2-3 cards previously in other restaurants and that it was possible, but he had no time for this. Three of us attempted to explain further but he completely tuned us out. We ended up needing to go through the terms and conditions twice and had to linger at the counter for far too long. It became very awkward and it wasn’t until after we had paid, about half an hour later that we’d found the part in the t & c that explicitly stated how many cards could be used per number of people, per table.<br/><br/>We finally got the extra 40 dollars back. There was no apology, any indication of embarrassment or acknowledgement that he was in the wrong. In fact, he barely looked at us as he roughly handed back the cash (not even directly facing my friend as he was doing so).<br/><br/>With the restaurant industry being so ruthlessly competitive these days, no one needs to put up with such arrogant and obstinate service. Having the right management is such an integral part of making a hospitality based business a success. Often, you only get one chance to make an impression, that’s it. Unless you’re 1000% sure, it pays to double check with others in the restaurant before thoughtlessly stonewalling customers. Reputation is built slowly and through word of mouth after all.<br/><br/>This really does pose the question as to how many times this has happened before and just how many groups of people had to pay more than they should have, simply due to management. What an utterly disappointing way to end what was otherwise a great night.

First time here using the First Table option. Would definitely attend here again. We also had their chicken wings which were great. The brisket tacos were the best, you have to try them BUT their Key Lime Pie was brilliant, should've asked for another one hahaha. The pork ribs were average, would've been better if they were cooked longer so the meat actually comes off the bone. The injected doughnut, we had the peanut butter, was average but was still nice.

The place is really nice, very aesthetically pleasing and it’s nice to be near the water. The food were actually quite average and it wasn’t hot when it got to the table. I like that they have happy hour deals or even deals during the week. The staff are very friendly. We got the brisket, pork belly, salmon and fries with a couple of drinks. The fries were really good, very crispy. The brisket was nice and tender, as well as the pork belly. Although, very disappointed that the pork belly and the salmon wasn’t crispy. Also disappointing that the oysters were sold out when we got there because I wanted to get some for the table. Other than that, it was still a good night.

The Culpeper was definitely enjoyable overall. Its quite a sizable restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating and at 6pm on a Saturday, the place was bustling. The young man who seated and served us was polite and pleasant.<br/><br/>Food was good but can be improved. Highlights - the 16hr Brisket and the Tempura oysters.

The restaurant is placed at a nice location by the wharf with a small but comfy setting inside. The food is good as my friends and I ordered a wide variety of dishes. We loved the deep fried kimchi chicken which had a wonderful coating. The ceviche was large in portion with great flavouring. The only mishap we had was one of the fish dishes were too salty and the guy couldn’t finish it. However, this is where excellency service showed as the manager in charge was friendly and instantly gave him a new dish instead. The food was great but the amazing service left an even better impression.

Finally tried Culpepper the other day and I absolutely loved every dish we ordered! The food, ambiance and customer service was impeccable! We ordered their Korean spiced crispy chicken wings, 16 hour smoked Wakanui brisket, the bbq squid taco and to top it all off, their delicious and creamy mac ‘n’ cheese. Would highly recommend their 16 hour smoked Wakanui brisket! It just falls apart and melts in your mouth! This place is perfect for dining in either for brunch or dinner 🥘🧀🍷

Came here using First Table which halves the price on all food. It was a pretty quiet weekday when we came. The service was good - professional and attentive in that we weren’t left waiting and water was topped up frequently, but I wouldn’t say friendly. <br/><br/>We ordered the pulled pork, prawn tacos, Mac n cheese and large tuna poke (because I thought the small wouldn’t be enough). I enjoyed everything with my favourite being the prawn tacos which was full of flavour and the pulled pork was also really good. My partner enjoyed the Mac n cheese the most which is a side dish for $10. We were both super full and a small poke would definitely have been the better choice. <br/><br/>Not sure if paying full price for the food would be worth it, but for what we paid we were very happy with our meal.

I came here with my family on new years and had the set menu. The restaurant was very busy but the staff were still very on to it and helpful. The setting was beautiful. The amuse bouche I chose was the tomato and basil with labneh, great little taste. For entree I had the Korean chicken wings, these were amazing, great flavour and nice crispy skin with juicy chicken inside. For main I had the steak with chimichurri. The steak was cooked perfectly, was tender and I liked the chimichurri. The potato bun I had on the side was good and the fries were amazing! So crispy. For desert I chose the banofee pie which was so good! I would have liked more banana. I thought the pricing was great for will you got including the yummy glass of prosecco. The only thing I did like was the cocktail I ordered which was boring and was literally just juice and alcohol and was expensive. I would love to come back as the service food and location are amazing!

We had our work Xmas function here on Wednesday. The place was pretty packed. I arrived before 7pm just in time for the happy hour $2 oysters, $10 cocktails and $5 beer/wine. What a bargain, fresh succulent oysters for only $2. <br/><br/>Beautiful view looking out the viaduct area....then a colleague turned up on a lime scooter! 🙄<br/><br/>Service was excellent. Waitress got everyone’s order correct. Food came out relatively quick. A few ppl ordered the meat platter which is a good choice if you’re a meat lover. <br/>Beer battered chips and squid lettuce cup tacos were amazing. However, the best dish would be awarded to the 16hr smoked wakanui brisket w hot mustard, pickles and purple slaw. The meat melts in your mouth ohh.... yum.<br/>The keylime, banoffi and salted caramel apple pies served with your choice of ice-cream were delicious and very generous serving for $12 each. I got to sample all 3 pies. Woohoo moment. <br/>It was around 11pm and the restaurant was closing up but the waitresses and barman did not rush us out. We finished our last round of drinks at 11:15pm. <br/>Great service, great food. Will definitely go back again.

Dined for a work function here. Ordered the 3 course shared platter meal between 2 of us. Entree & main pretty much came out at once. Tuna poke was ok, Korean fried chicken was pretty average but really enjoyed the chargrilled Kumara which was the highlight of the small plates. Main platter came out shortly afterwards. Pork ribs hardly had any meat on it, bone was not soft at all. Pulled pork was quite dry and appeared to not be much sauce on it. Beef brisket was ok but also wasn't that great. Highlight of the platter was the purple slaw. Dessert was pretty much just 2 soft biscuits with a small bit of whisked milk (not even mousse). Wouldn't recommend that platters at all. Place was quite busy on the night. Would recommend nor return give the high price for lacklustre food, would rather dine at Wildfire next door.

The Culpeper is a great place to go for a great view and okay food.<br/><br/>We tried their mac n’ cheese, cauliflower bake, smoked kumara, pork tacos, steak with chimichurri, ribs and a pie for dessert. <br/>The sides were very good, except for the kumara which was too burnt. The steak was also good but very overcooked. I ordered medium is it was closer to well done. The ribs are big and generous in size and meat versus bone ratio however, the flavor is a bit overwhelming. Overall the food is average.<br/><br/>The service was a bit slow but the staff was friendly.

I absolutely loved the share board there were so many different things to eat and try. Strangely enough the brioche was the show stopper for me, I would happily eat a dozen rolls and still give The Culpeper a five star rating. Not only was the food amazing, but the staff were so tentative without smothering us. And as someone who doesn’t enjoy alcohol the Pimms jug was absolutely amazing! 10/10% will be returning.

Been here a few times now. The food is pretty good though but once you’ve been here a few times, it starts to get old. It’d be nice to see more variety. The curly fries are amazing though.

I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone. The service is slow as we waited for 40 minites to have our food. The ribs I ordered tastes like a bunch of bones with sea salt. The cauliflower served on the plate is burned. My friend on the same table felt ill right after lunch. I wish there is even negative rating in this app.

I would have gone for even a negative rating given an option.<br/>Horrible service<br/>Serving portion is tiny<br/>Taste is not up to the mark. <br/>Serving time is horrible. They took 50-55 minutes to serve the food some of us passed out by the time food arrived. Lady who served the food had a very hostile look on her face. If you are a vegetarian, please dont go for cauliflower they burn their cauliflower and sell it for 14$.<br/>If you value your money. Please think twice before heading here

The ribs are too salty that I have to drink the whole jarl of water. I only ate two ribs and pass others to my friend. All the comments are too bad and too salty. This restaurant is already in my black list.

I have mixed thoughts about this place.<br/><br/>The raspberry and lemon soda for $6 was small and very syrupy.<br/><br/>The oysters (6 for $33) were delicious.<br/><br/>The $78 meat platter for two .....not worth it. We ordered curly fries with it as well ($8.50), so if you removed them off the Meat platter board from the photos below.....you are paying a lot and not getting any value for your money.<br/><br/>The ribs were average. They were sticky with a good spicy smoked sauce, the meat was a little dry.<br/><br/>The pulled pork was ok....again tasted average.<br/><br/>The 12 hour smoked brisket had a fantastic taste, but the meat was dry as toast. This would have been a winner if the meat wasn’t dry.<br/><br/>The sausage was ok.<br/><br/>The coleslaw........this ended up being the highlight of the platter. <br/><br/>When a coleslaw becomes the star attraction of a smoked meat platter, there’s something wrong....right?

I came here with friends last Saturday. We had to ask to request to stay longer than the two hours you're usually allowed to stay. It's a nice, comfortable venue with lots to look at due to its location. Unfortunately the toilets were under reconstruction. <br/><br/>The food was beautiful. I ordered the cold smoked salmon which just melted in your mouth. All of my other friends enjoyed their meals. One ordered the ribs, she said there wasn't enough meat on each of them but being that you get a huge order it didn't seem to bother her. The vegetarian menu comes out on request which seems a little strange to have it separate. The desserts were a little bit of a let down. I had the key lime pie. The filling was lovely and rich but the crust was a little burnt. One friend had the doughnut but found the cream too sweet, she doesn't have a sweet tooth though.<br/><br/>When I first arrived, the staff were friendly, but I found that as the night went on and got busier their smiles dropped as they hurried along. As a waitress during my varsity days I know how this feels but it's always good for the patrons to have a smile on your face.

I’ve heard mixed reviews about this place and to be honest wasn’t overly keen to try this place out until a friend suggested it and democratically our group decided to dine at The Culpepper. Coming in on a Saturday evening it was relatively packed, I loved the atmosphere and when sitting outside I didn’t feel like we were detached from those patrons in the restaurant.<br/><br/>The service to kick off the night was seriously disappointing, our waiter who also worked the bar seemed more interested in chatting up the table next to us of ladies than doing his job. He was slow with getting our orders and even slower with our drink orders. However we had another fella start serving us and that person was much better in making us feel taken care off. We ordered the brisket, salmon, fried chicken starters, half grilled chicken and steak. <br/><br/>I’ll start off with what not to bother with, the steak was average and to be honest for 44$ you will feel ripped off. Salmon was decent enough and the grilled chicken had a nice charred skin and was succulent enough. The brisket was beautiful, smoky sweet flavor if you were supposed to order anything at all I’ll say get the brisket. Went here for the first time for lunch. Great spot to eat/drink with waterfront views. Attentive service, we were promptly seated & friendly waiter. Great food, perfect to share with friends. All the food were perfectly seasoned & cooked.<br/><br/>Our dishes: The beef brisket was so tender it was like pulled beef, served with generous slaw & mustard dressing. Prawn tacos were very tasty too with the perfect balance of lemon/spiciness in its dressing, tasted fresh & light served on top of lettuce leaves. The salmon was good, served with almond and orange to balance the richness of ths fish.

Beautiful and flavourful food right by the wharf !! Ordered: corn dog, brisket taco, tuna poke, prawn taco, skirt steak, spare ribs and curly fries. Corn was average with little stuffing. Brisket taco had tons of flavour! Soft meat with a hot sauce. Tuna poke was a Japanese flavour. Refreshing with lots of tuna, apple, seaweed. Prawn tacos were nicely fried with a nice Vietnamese crumb coating. The steak was delicious !! Shallots gave lots of flavour to the tender meat (perfect bite size meat). Last the ribs came at a good portion with a slightly hot sauce.

Had the 2 burgers for $20 here on wednesdays, pretty solid deal although they ran out of the chicken burger which looked a lot tastier than the beef but the beef was pretty good! pretty hefty patty and tasted really good!. The restaurant was more of a corporate classy style place but the service was great and it was priced quite reasonably!

The Culpeper has great food and service. I love the $2 oysters at happy hour which I think is really worth it. They are fat and creamy. They also have $5 wine and beer at happy hour.<br/><br/>The food is asian fusion.<br/>The chicken wings were tasty. The salmon taco had great flavour. The szechuan chicken was a generous portion and the seafood broth was Tom yum flavoured.<br/><br/>The best was the dessert. It looks pretty humble but actually just really delicious. The cookies are more brownie like and the chocolate pie was so creamy. The food for the price point is not bad at all.

Walked in with the “necessary” reservation for an event and I was the first one there. Wondered around for a bit as no one greeted me and tried to figure out if we actually indeed had the reservation we had requested. <br/><br/>Waitress told me to go to a far corner to talk to someone that “books in tables”.. finally sat down...I ordered a beer as I was seated and that took 15 minutes after speaking to two different waitresses. <br/><br/>My friends from overseas had arrived and decided on the menu which was a share plater (x5 for the crowd) and some sides to share. Waitress had explained the platter to be shared between two people per order. To our surprise, the platter had arrived in all in one. We passed around the wooden slab to share with even the waitress commenting “this is really heavy” - not what you expect for $80 p.p. <br/><br/>I wish the food was good at least... the brisket/ribs they say they are proud to smoke for 16 or what ever hours it is.. felt like rubber which I mentioned to the waitress. Her comment was “chef says smoking is meant to create that texture”. Are you xxxxing kidding me? I smoke food as a hobby and never has this tasted this bad. It should be falling off the meat not xxxxing stuck to the bones. She told me ribs will be better and I trusted her.... ribs are the same pathetic meat like the brisket - rubber. Chef brought “new batch” of briskets. Did I get served the old ones????????????<br/><br/>I left more food on the plate as you can see than I ate, I tried to entertain the guests but hey look. DO NOT MAKE THIS YOUR GO TO GROUNDS. Worst $100 odd I’ve spent in a while. We dined there for dinner and the place wasn’t packed. Service was disappointing the waiter we had was quite rude to us and wasn’t accommodating or friendly at all. She came across as arrogant almost. <br/><br/>For starters we order tuna poke and corn dog and they were nice and fresh and generous tuna. The food came out very quickly and well presented! For mains fried chicken, beef cheek, pulled pork, chicken bbq, Mac n cheese and brocolini. Everything came out super fast and portions were all generous sizes. The flavours however was a little bit of a let down (Beef cheek was pretty average pub style and so was the chicken). <br/><br/>For desserts we had apple pie with ice cream. Unfortunately apple pie was cold after taking a couple of bites we requested for it to be heated and they heated it but they didn’t give us a new slice? So they took our cold apple pie and pretty much just reheated it... overall okay experience apart from few hiccups and service can be better - a more friendlier and warmer waitstaff would be nice.

Father’s Day lunch with fam bam. We opted for their Fathers day special menu offering of two courses. My fish taco entree was good but the serving small serving or our hunger was probably intense with no bfast. My daughter’s crispy Korean chicken was yum and just enough pieces for an entree size serving. An early glass of Wither Hills Pinot Noir for me, kept me warm and preoccupied while waiting for the foodies. All of us were unanimous in ordering the Savannah Skirt steak as our mains. They were served already sliced in mini non stick frying pans. I like my skirt steak medium, and the pink streak was just right without compromising the tenderness. The yoghurt green chilli dressing brought a bit of sourness and reminded me of my Turkish meal in Istanbul. Desserts: Doughnut with salted caramel choc filling, self inject the filling, choc custard pie with roasted banana ice cream=super yum, bittersweet pie with pecan nuts and mandarin ice cream=yum. Coffee for the road!

Recently had lunch during the weekend here to celebrate a birthday. We had ordered the Culpeper cheeseburger, the roasted ora king salmon, the wakanui brisket with a side curly fries. All the food was delicious. One little critique with the Burger is a little more seasoning and maybe some sauce but that's my personal preference. The hand cut chips that came with the Burger was crispy and well salted, as well as the curly fries. We also ordered the raspberry and lemon soda and strawberry and cream soda, both of which were very delicious and refreshing. For dessert we had ordered the key lime pie with milk ice cream, the pie of the week which was chocolate custard pie I think with vanilla icecream and the house made cookies with whipped milk mousse. The staff were even nice enough to give my brother an extra cookie and write happy birthday on his dessert 😀. We all enjoyed our desserts and I particularly enjoyed the key lime pie which had a nice and silky texture, not too sweet and tangy and the milk ice cream, I could've went back for seconds. Our waiter was friendly and attentive and the restaurant itself has a very relaxed and casual feel which we really enjoyed. It also has nice views of the wharf. Would definitely come back to The Culpeper again ☺

We ordered the two person option which was enough for all four of us plus plenty left over. <br/>The tuna poke was delicious, fresh and tangy. The fried chicken was crispy and the sauce was absolutely perfect with it. The crispy layer had an amazing seasoning. <br/>All the food was absolutely delicious. Service was great too.<br/>The cookie for dessert was dark chocolate chip and soft and warm.

More towards a New Orleans/Asian/Salad fusion. <br/><br/>The ribs were delicious and were slightly burnt for the Smokey flavour. Skirt steak wasn’t as tender as I usually like my skirt steaks. Pulled pork was nice, but don’t have too much as it is quite rich. The prawn tacos were spicy and delicious, one of my favs here. Salmon was cooked throughout, should be slightly pink. The salad didn’t work with the salmon. The fried chicken was amazing, perfect crunch and tender thighs, match with the sauce and lemon was perfect texture. <br/><br/>Kids meal Mac n cheese with fries was great too. My daughter loved it. <br/><br/>They are also on first table! Came here to celebrate Brother’s graduation and was a great experience to celebrate such a special day . I ordered a steak sandwich and it was very nice as the flavours of the steak , onion, cheese and salsa verde all went very well together . The sandwich and fries were definitely fulfilling for me and to end my meal I ordered the pie of the week which was a chocolate hazelnut pie which came with a scoop of icecream which I chose vanilla. The pie was definitely a very generous slice and couldn’t finish it all so may be good to share with another person after a meal . The pie filling , chocolate base and mouse consistency were Devine and icecream was amazing and would go back to the culpeper just to eat that pie again . $12 for a slice of pie and a scoop of icecream is abit on the more pricy side but definitely worth the price. The view was beautiful as well as the restaurant is located in princess wharf . Prices are abit on the expensive side and wish I got more fries with my sandwich has got only three but besides that was a good time :)

Overall, a mediocre experience. We ordered a lot from the menu and found:<br/><br/>- the sticky St. Louis pork ribs to be as hard as cardboard box and very salty. for $48 per plate, that’s a let down - it was such a waste of money and energy eating that dish<br/><br/>- the seasonal veg (long stem broccoli) was so hard! It’s meant to be crunchy, yes, but it was quite undercooked.<br/><br/>- mojo chicken breast was kinda dry, although the Cuban beans and rice that came with it were quite tasty.<br/><br/>We will need pretty good convincing to go back....

Came here for function. The menu does not have much to choose from. Don't order the burger with Fries.. U only get 4 fat chips. The meals are not very big, but presentation is good. Icecream dessert (by itself) is one tiny scoop. Prices are very expensive for the amount you get as well. I would not go here again.. Not even with the family.

Food: 3.5<br/>Maybe my expectations were a little too high, but sadly I didn’t receive a wow factor from the main dishes. <br/>We ordered the beef brisket and prawn tacos as the mains. The beef brisket was pleasant, where the meat was tender. The slaw and pickle complemented the meat and cut through the richness. Downside was that it didn’t have the strong Smokey flavour that I was expecting.<br/>For the tacos, we understand that it’s a southeast Asian inspired dish, however we felt like there was too much rice noodles in comparison to the amount of prawn given. They had a nice Smokey flavour and were seasoned well.<br/>We had the pecan pie with vanilla ice cream as dessert. TBH this was the highlight of the night. The slight taste of liquor was a nice touch to the dish, adding a depth to the sweetness. There were pieces of shortbread sprinkled on the side, adding another element of texture. Only downside of this dish was that the vanilla ice cream was quite weak in vanilla flavour and the bottom crust of the pie was a little chewy.<br/><br/>Ambience: 4/5 <br/>The doors can’t be closed during service so take a jacket just in case<br/><br/>Would definitely come back!

I'm going to keep this review fairly straight to the point, therefore, I'll start with my complaint. When my partner and I visited the place for dinner, we were greeted by a waitress who asked if we wanted water. It was a no-brainer for us, but when the bottle arrived, we started questioning each other, "Why is it Antipodes?". Both of us are very aware that Antipodes waters are around $11 per bottle, which many people can agree that you are pretty much paying for the fancy glass bottle, regardless of whatever minerals are in that. However, because your wait staff did not mention of any extra cost and the bottle came opened; therefore, unable to be returned, we just finished our meal and left to pay, only to be greeted with an extra $11 or so for the water. <br/><br/>Now, I don't care what brand of water you are selling, but I would've appreciated it if we were told beforehand that it was the one brand we would never get. I've been to plenty of places that offer sparkling water for free, and despite you guys having the rights to charge for it, I was fairly disappointed that I was not told this by any of the staff. <br/><br/>However, I can't fault you too much for just water. We had a fabulous evening and I feel like you didn't deserve most of these negative reviews. The staffs were very welcoming and the food was great, so I can't put you down just for that.

This is our third visit and unfortunately I have to reduce the stars for a number of points. Service has deteriorated. The lady didn't even say hi when we walked in. She looked at me and didn't say anything. The brisket was oily. The cauliflower was underseasoned. The Korean chicken is dry. Too many flaws and left disappointed. The waiter wasn't very friendly. Didn't give any warm smiles or vibes.

The meals all came out at the same time (even though one was an entree to share). <br/><br/>The ribs were ok-but would have great to get a finger bowl to assist. <br/><br/>Burger- we were asked how we would like the patty (ordered medium rare) but it came we’ll done.<br/><br/>Prawn Salad - full prawns with heads/tails which had to de-shell (would have been better with a finger bowl). Was missing the “smoked bacon crumb” and replaced with a scattering of what I can only assume was breadcrumbs.<br/><br/>Unfortunately the toilets were blocked which also didn’t help the overall experience.<br/><br/>Sorry but can’t say I will be back..

Visited as we were keen to try out The Culpeper version of the latest craze “low and slow” meats. We ordered the Culpeper Board plus a side of Mac n Cheese. <br/>There is definitely plenty of food for two people, and we loved being able to take some home and enjoy the next day. <br/>We really liked all of the items on the board, though we thought the flavour off the pulled pork was a bit too “tomatoey” for our liking and the brisket wasn’t as melt in your mouth as it could have been. <br/>Once again another place that missed out on making money on drinks, after we drank our first round we were not asked again if we wanted any more drinks, and had to catch someone’s attention as we never seemed to be looked at again. <br/><br/>That said, would return to try other things on the menu as there were quite a few items of interest.

I went with a friend for lunch and got two glasses of prosecco and the meat sharing board for two, which included a selection of brisket, brioche rolls, ribs, sausage and pulled pork with coleslaw and chips. All were cooked well and delicious except it was way too much meat for two people. With an extra salad or starter, that was more than enough food for four people. The only downside was that the ribs were served but there were no wet wipes or finger dipping bowls which made things a bit messy. The aioli that came out with the chips was also curdled. Staff was friendly and checked on us a few times. Overall the location you can't beat when you're sitting outside on a sunny day.

The restaurant has good ambience and is just by the water. <br/>The food was great and has large portions. It was nice to see a restaurant that had a menu dedicated for vegetarians. Overall it was a good night out and we would definitely go back.

A group of four of us came here on Sunday night using the firsttable 50% off coupon. The location itself was really lovely and we were sat outside with a view of the harbour. We ordered the mac n cheese, full rack of ribs (and an extra half rack) and fried chicken. To start with, the mac n cheese was your standard skillet mac n cheese, nothing too special but good none the less. The fried chicken was amazing and the sauce complemented it perfectly. The ribs had a really nice sauce and marinade however by the end of it, it felt too overpowering and was a bit of struggle to finish. The ribs were also not as tender, fall off the bone as we would have liked but they were still really good. With the 50% off coupon, it came to about $10 pp which is excellent value for a really nice dinner together.

For small ones, we had Chipotle fried chicken, Asian prawn tacos & a larger portion of tuna poke; for large plates, we had seared gurnard, baby back pork ribs & smoked lamb ribs, and curly fries as a side. Everything came with some green salads, & the taste was above average. Overall: Nice decor, good service, solid yet not spectacular food. <br/><br/>Went here on a Tuesday night mainly because they had there All You Can Eat Ribs and I felt like pork, a lot of pork... We arrived early, no problem and after sitting asked to be moved due to cool breeze and again no problem. Had the pork, 3 times in fact which I think surprised the waiting staff as I'm an average sized guy. It's nice although not the best ribs I've had but not expecting it to be given the $25 price tag. Only really disappointing thing was that we weren't offered additional wine beyond our first glasses. By the time were, I'd finished 3 plates of ribs so it wasn't exactly quick. <br/><br/>That aside, nice place, good food and value.

This review comes overdue as I visited Culpeper on the last day of August. We were here for a late lunch, food was fantastic, ambience was nice and the service was good. We ordered one of each item from their 2 course 'restaurant month' menu which offered prawn lettuce cup tacos and chipotle fried chicken for entrees, followed by barbecued Peruvian chicken and seared market fish with green papaya slaw for our mains. <br/><br/>Everything was delicious, the prawn lettuce cup tacos were juicy and flavourful, fried chicken was a tad dry but very crispy. The seared fish was fresh, green papaya salad is such a rare find so I really enjoyed getting a taste of it since my last visit to Asia. Favourite dish of the day was the barbecued Peruvian chicken which was succulent and the accompanying rice was so buttery and addictive. We look forward to another choice meal here.

The ambiance is relaxed and was the right amount of busy we were looking for a Friday evening. We decided on the place because the decor was also beautiful. In all honesty, I didn't have high expectations for the food to be what it was ! But I was definitely wrong! <br/><br/>We ordered buttermilk fried chicken and prawn tacos (which use cos lettuce as wraps! Perfect if you were trying to avoid carbs!) for entree. Both were such a beautiful balance of flavors with the right amount of punch - and usually I can't eat spicy food! <br/><br/>For mains we both ordered the seared market fish it was served with a papaya slaw and the dressing again so unique and fresh! We also added the roasted cauliflower which is a popular item .. which I suggest to try but we would opt to try something else in the future. We couldn't do dessert as all the options sold out ! However we are definitely going to come back and order the fried chicken and prawns those were an absolutely lovely - and perhaps will be even get our hands on a dessert or two

Came here during Restaurant Month for their $25 two course meals!<br/>From the course menu we got the Buttermilk Fried Chicken, Pan Seared Market Fish and Roast Chicken. We also got a Mac 'n' Cheese, Curly Fries and Smoked Lamb Ribs from the standard menu. <br/>The fried chicken--wow. I honestly don't think I can put words to how show-stopping it was. The chicken was juicy and tender; not dry like most places. AND THEIR COATING, I don't know what they do, but it's crunchy without being greasy and heavy, and it's got seasoning of sesame and pepper by the taste of it. There's also something in there that gives it a gentle kick of spice and it's an explosion of flavours without being overwhelming. The sauce also compliments it very well--easily makes my personal list of 'Best Fried Chicken'. <br/>The Mac was good too!!! Extremely creamy; although towards the end I had trouble finishing it because it was TOO creamy! It was subtle yet a nice balance of textures between the creaminess, crunchiness and chewiness. <br/>The seared fish was good! Although lacked a little bit of seasoning, mine was cooked just under well-done; which won it for me. Otherwise it would have been too dry. The green papaya salad the fish sat ontop of was extremely flavoursome! Sour and spicy, and the crispness of the papaya added that extra little zing. Personally I may have preferred it to be more mild so it would be more refreshing. <br/>I had a little bit of the roast chicken, which had nice humble smokey flavours coming through with each chew. Didn't get to try the ribs myself but apparently they are heavenly haha! <br/>Also the service was exceptional; a really tall brunette girl with a slight accent served us, whom was very attentive and extremely observant! The interior decor (even their bathroom!) gives a very homely vibe, a little bit rustic yet sophisticated. <br/>Would recommend the fried chicken! <br/><br/>Price: 8/10<br/>Food: 9/10<br/>Ambience: 10/10<br/>Service: 10/10<br/><br/>

The Culpeper, headed by hottie, MKR NZ Judge Gareth Stewart and under the Nourish Group Family, a restaurant I had been meaning to try after feeding my face with a pork belly corn dog at Street Eats. If that doesn’t excite you then I don’t know what will!. Tucked down the aisle of Princes Wharf, it has a stunning view of the water on a bright sunny day when you are dining outside. It doesn’t even matter it’s winter, they will heat you up with outdoor heaters so you can pretend its summer ;).

I had the peruvian chicken salad which was too salty for me but the chicken was not dry. I tried my friend tuna poke dish which i would like to order next time. Good service aswell :)

Fantastic food, good interior theme but the chairs let down the experience (not comfortable and backwards slope made it hard to hear in the group).<br/>Food was roughly $50/pp for starters, mains and 2 sides. This was great value for what came out (4 grown men couldn't finish it) and the flavour of all the dishes was fantastic.

A very disappointing experience. Overcooked fish, dry slaw and overall a low quality experience for the price. A few measly pieces of dry and tasteless fish on a bed of dry slaw. Was a tasteless meal with no love put into it. I would not recommend anyone go back until the improve dramatically.

Booked a table for 6 of us on the Thursday before Easter weekend.<br/>4 of us ordered the feast for $65 a person. I thought this was really nice especially with a few people. We had various entrees - tuna poke, brisket taco and prawn n grits they were all excellent, my favourite was the taco, the brisket was so soft and flavoursome!<br/>The meats on the board were good too - the ribs, pulled pork, brisket and sausages. All were tasty, well prepared and full of flavour. Cookies and milk mousse were good too!<br/>Would like to try some of their other dishes too.

We went for a group of people catch up on Monday. Not sure why the dining table is only available at 7pm as we arrived at 6pm and the seats are empty. The area is not big, but very nice dining environment. Staff are all nice and Friendly, and they are pretty busy for a Monday night, inside are all pretty much full. Food was slightly delay to make the overall experience little bit down. However, with a full restaurant on Monday night and only 3 chefs on, believe they did a great job.

The food was delicious, we had steak and fish with a side of curly fries, broccoli and cauliflower. With the funky decor we felt comfortable to sit around drinking for a while. The service was excellent and it's in a prime location. Highly recommend for taking overseas visitors.

Occupying a prime slice of the Prince’s Wharf seaside frontage that used to be part of what was once Euro 1.0, The Culpeper is bringing American style BBQ with a side of seafood to the wharf. Nourish Group’s Gareth Stewart brings his wealth of culinary expertise as Executive Chef, and in its first year, the restaurant hit the Metro Top 50 list. Not bad.

Every time I walk into this place I get amused looks, mostly from the customers. Even though its classified as casual dining, the clientele and ambiance along with the location makes it more of an upscale, fine dining place. It is then, no surprise when a guy walks in there asking for half a rack of ribs for takeaway, in shorts and jandals. In my defense I live upstairs and can’t be bothered to put on full pants for my takeaway. <br/><br/>Needless to say, I love the ribs here and keep coming back for more. I think most of the people writing a review will tell you that the quality of the food, presentation, cost etc. are great (and with which I totally agree with), but I’d like to tell you another reason why I like this place. Every single time I have come here, the staff has been courteous and polite, irrespective of me looking like a bum. I remember one time, I’m not sure if it was the manager or one of the staff who suggested I take my food in their plates and return it the next day because they ran out of takeaway containers. Good people make good food.

We visited The Culpeper for a drink and a bite to eat. The decor is stunning and the large tropical plants give this place a really nice lived in beachy feel. I ordered a range of dishes to try and our server asked if it we wanted these to come as they were ready or all at once. I opted for all at once which was no problem. The highlight was their Ahi Poke, which was the main reason for our visit. Most places that serve poke actually serve poke bowls, but The Culpeper actually serves pure poke. Really fresh and good value for the amount. We also go the beef short rib, the mac and some broccolini. All were tasty. Would come again.

Went here for my birthday. With a large group we had I would've thought it was hard for to manage group but the waitress made it really easy for us. She knew how much food we needed and suggested a good variety for us. I would say top notch on the service. Really enjoyed the seaweed tuna salad. So delicious! Would definitely go back.

Visited The Culpeper with my work colleague around when they first opened. At the time, they were doing some awesome lunch specials, which was a real drawcard. The staff are attentive and meals are brought out pretty quick, which makes them ideal for a midday work-week visit. The curly fries with aioli is great, especially with a serving of their purple slaw. Will have to visit again soon for their Tuesday night all-you-can-eat ribs special.

We came here for dinner and got a table without a reservation which seemed lucky. The staff are very friendly and it has a great atmosphere. We tried 3 starters: Tuna Poke which was delicious, the Brisket Taco very tasty and the Smoked Market Fish very nice. For the mains we had to get the Culpeper Board with sides of mac cheese and charred prawn salad. The selection on the board looked great and well presented but overall it was ok. We did think the meats were flavoursome but the ribs were tough/chewy and actually we preferred the starters.

I've never had a meal refunded twice in a row. I've been here for lunch a total of three times and although I find the lunch deals great I will not be going again unfortunately. I had ordered the crispy chicken salad and ended up waiting close to 40 minutes for it which was not ideal as by the time it got to me I had to get it packed. I ended up going again a few weeks later and reluctantly ordered the same salad. I didn't have to wait around for an unreasonable amount of time which was great however I did end up finding a nasty bug wrapped around in my lettuce. Sadly I had already eaten most of the salad before I spotted it and was mortified when I did end up seeing it. I understand that not every piece of lettuce can be washed thoroughly but having a bad experience happen twice in a row really sealed the deal for me. The waitress had pointed out in her '25 years of work this was the first time she had come across an instance like this', I had also reassured her that having bugs in my salad is not something I'm used to either. Appreciate the fact that my meal was refunded in both situations however will not be going again.

Great place for casual dining!excellent sevice!impressing food. I ordered the corndog that should be come with only the bbq sauce that i dont like.and I asked if I can get another sauce rather than bbq sauce. then the beautiful kind lovely waitress brought all the dips they have for me so that I can try different combinations and make myself the favorite one. everything cooked beautifully and their prices are really low in the city. staffs there are nice and always smile on their face. love this relaxing place. make me feel so warm and touched during the entire meal.

The first time to visit there and ordered one serve of Corn Dogs for $20.00 as a light dinner. The price is not cheap, but what a unique and lovely creation it is!  Crispy battered skin outside and raw pork belly meat inside. Made lots of sense with tomato sauce and BBQ sauce. Tasty and good texture. Service was very good.

Last month we checked out The Culpeper in the city for lunch. We were kindly given a voucher from The Nourish Group from my partner’s dad and it was about to expire. We couldn’t waste an opportunity to try a new food place so off we went. From the outside, The Culpeper looks pretty cool and spacious. We went midday on Sunday so the place wasn’t too busy.

First visit to Culpeper, and I have to say their service is top notch but their food is only OK. As you walk in the front door, a nice smokey aroma hits you and builds the anticipation for some smokey BBQ American goodness. Ordered the smoked beef brisket, jerk chicken and Mac n' cheese and unfortunately the brisket was quite tough and dry. The chicken was also a bit bland and dry, but the Mac n' cheese is very good.. cheesy and full of flavour. Overall, I am a bit disappointed with the food as I expected more smoked flavours, just more punchier flavour!

Got here early on a Friday night, was completely empty. We were the first ones there. Got a beautiful table outside near the heater and ordered straight away.<br/>Ordered the blackened fish sliders, pork belly corn dogs, deep fried duck, crispy shrimp and the skillet Mac and cheese.<br/>Unfortunately I wasn't terribly impressed.<br/>The batter on the corn dog was thick and it didn't work with the pork belly for me, the top was dipped in something that tasted like tamarind - found it hard the finish the entire thing. <br/>The duck and fish sliders were good, wasn't a big fan of the shrimp. Can't go wrong with skillet Mac and cheese.<br/>Wasn't entirely happy with the meal.

Dined here with my partner tonight. This place is in such a beautiful location on the water front, I absolutely love the vibe here the decor looks great & the vibe is awesome. The staff are friendly & welcoming, we were greeted when we arrived & offered a table inside or outside, we opted for inside as it was a chilly evening & we were seated near the fire which was nice and cozy. The menu was fully of delicious dishes & we found our selves spoilt for choice. We decided to share the platter so we got too try a variety of dishes. The platter came with slaw, curly fries, buns, pulled pork, jerk chicken, brisket & short rib as well as a variety of sauces. Everything was cooked perfectly & we very much enjoyed our meal. I also had a peach cocktail which was delicious & served in the cutest little glass. The waiter we had was great & made sure we were looked after throughout our visit. The wait time for service & food was just right. I would definitely recommend checking this place out, particularly if you are a keen meat eater like my partner.

Came here not knowing what to expect. What a cool place on Princess Wharf. It's an American style affair...jerk chicken, short rib and Mac and cheese. If you don't lime your strong flavoured food the you're in the wrong place. The food is flavoursome and the meat is heavily smoked. Serving the food on cast iron skillets was genius. Nicely done. The corn dogs weren't that good though.

Enjoyed our lunch here - great location right by the harbour. Culpeper has an interesting (and meaty) menu - ranging from jerk chicken to beef ribs and corn dogs.<br/><br/>We ordered a couple of cocktails - and they were surprisingly strong. As for the starters, we really liked the crispy duck and their thick curly fries. The corn dogs and the salads were decent but nothing special. <br/><br/>For the mains I ordered the lamb shoulder which was massive (and rightly so - it was $45!). I felt the beet hummus it came with was a bit too sweet and the lentil tabouleh was boring. My friend ordered the beef ribs which looked pretty good.<br/><br/>Good place to visit if you enjoy your meat!

A friend of mine and I visited The Culpeper a couple months ago when it had just opened. The prawn taco was so over powered in dressing that you could barely taste the natural flavourings of the prawn which was disappointing, the texture was nice however. We also got the whitebait sliders, I was extremely let down. Despite the whitebait patty being nice and soft, it had absolutely no flavour whatsoever. Really bland. <br/><br/>The wagyu beef was relatively soft and tender - it was definitely the highlight of my visit (and the beautiful view). The polenta was nice but where is the bone marrow?!? Can you tell I'm sad? I love bone marrow. <br/><br/>I don't think I'll be back as the main we got was not filling at all and you definitely need starters which I'm not sure I'd be willing to splurge into. Will rate a bit higher just because the service was impeccable.

Went for a friends birthday, the set up and vibes were good and the waitress was really nice and helpful as she explained the menu to us in detail. We ordered the crispy duck which was really nice and I had jerk chicken and that was really tender. My friends also shared the platter which had a variety of different meats off the menu and overall it was a good experience. Would recommend the crispy duck 😁

In addition to the recent revival of Asian fusion, we now have a smattering of Americana hitting our shores with the likes of Al's Deli, Miss Moonshine's, and now the inimitable Culpeper. This place shines for many reasons, two of the standouts being the Mediterranean style booth seating, facing the wharf board walk (tourist gazing nirvana if you appreciate that sort of thing), and the chilled smoove beats of resident DJ Jaimie Webster Haines. The Culpeper was the liveliest and most entertaining place on the wharf that night so we walked straight in. Apart from a bit of confusion when we arrived, we were deftly served by our lovely Michiganian manageress. Food say exemplary, everything wowed! The highlight probably the prawn tacos in baby cos. It was one of those surreal times where I felt transported out of Auckland...

Went for early dinner on Valentines day. We really enjoyed the buttermilk crispy duck and the hapuka sliders but the beef brisket was very dry and hard to eat. The staff were very friendly and efficient and the decor was fresh and lively.

Went here with a friend last night for dinner. Absolutely loved the decor in this place. Total beach house vibe. The service was friendly and staff was attentive. <br/><br/>Now on to our order.<br/>Asian style prawns - they were super fresh, and light with a bit of kick from the wasabi and crunchy peanuts. It was a perfect small bite to whet your appetite. <br/><br/>Skillet macaroni and cheese - Just the comfort food we were looking for. Portions were good. The macaroni wasn't too heavy. Perfect amount of creaminess and ham. <br/><br/>Smoked Boston butt pulled pork - This was absolute melt in your mouth and seasoned well. The crackling was a bit tough but crunchy. We asked for a extra bun and were charged $4 for a dinner roll, which we thought was a bit too expensive. <br/><br/>Lemon pot de crème - This dessert could do better. The shortbread was crumbly and sweet. But the lemon pot/custard was lack lustre and failed to pack a punch. It could certainly do with more flavour. The portions on this were pretty small as well. And for $16 wasn't certainly worth it.  <br/><br/>All our food arrived on the table within 10 minutes of ordering, except for the desert. The desert took well over 30 minutes and when it arrived, it wasn't impressive. <br/><br/>Over all, I think for the portion size, it's a wee bit on the expensive side (when it comes to the shared plates and desserts. The mains are priced really well). Would certainly recommend this place. Just steer clear of the desserts and walk 5 minutes down the road and grab a gelato on stick from Milse instead.

Just by the waterfront (near Euro), a new restaurant has emerged! Overall, I would go back as food was good and had a cool casual vibe! Big menu so Lots to try and sharing menus are fun!<br/><br/>The decor and vibe feels like a beach house. The chairs were slightly too high for my short legs but they were comfy! <br/>It felt very hot and stuffy today as it was humid and muggy due to the rain. They do have outdoor seating though. And overall, it is very loud and hard to hear conversations.. Maybe just the acoustics of the building.<br/><br/>Service was very good, with friendly and attentive staff. They were also knowledgable on their food which is always a plus. <br/><br/>My favourites and would definitely order these again were the pork belly corndog, Mac and cheese, curly fries and beef brisket. The corndogs were something different! Served in threes they were a delight and good way to start off our dinner. Mac and cheese was sooo yummy and the beef briskets were tender! Slightly on the salty side but still good! Can't say no to fries, what more curly fries! They also provided their special sauces which were different to the normal tomato sauce.<br/><br/>Lowlights (they weren't bad but not spectacular) was the Coleslaw which was super spicy for some reason (and I normally eat spicy!). The Peking duck and kale sausage dish was interesting as it had no resemblance of The Asian Peking duck which we were expecting. There is no pancake and couldn't taste duck either! All of us agreed it would have been cool if it was duck sausage with a pancake and hoisin sauce. The fish slider were also average. <br/><br/>We had a look at the dessert menu at the end but nothing popped for us, so no dessert this round. <br/><br/>At the end, staff asked or our opinion and they were very open to feedback.

The Culpeper bills itself as an "eatery and bar."  Should probably be the other way around.  A group of us went in yesterday to enjoy the music of Nathan Haines and enjoy a meal together.  The atmosphere is fresh, the bar staff friendly and helpful and the music was great.  And loud.  After Nathan's set we were seated outside for dinner.  The DJ music was so loud we had ears ringing and sore throats from shouting over it.  We asked the manager if she could turn the music down to a dining level.  She said she couldn't because the people drinking in the bar wanted the volume up.  We left and had a wonderful meal at DeBretts Kitchen where we could actually hear each other.  I wonder why Culpepper even has a kitchen.

Ate here last night with family. The decor is fresh and the environment comfortable. The service is efficient and friendly. <br/>We did have a problem with the wine list - 3 sauvignon blancs on the list but only one in stock.<br/>The menu is based on shared plates and we opted for matarangi oysters - beautiful, white bait fritter sliders - a little bland but ok and pork belly corn dogs very moreish. We also had the heirloom tomato salad which was fantastic. Followed this with short rib which didn't quite fall off the bone like I was expecting, the brisket which was my favorite dish of the evening (served with a hot mustard butter - yum) and a fish dish.<br/><br/>Had the pumpkin tart with salted caramel which ran a very close second to the brisket <br/><br/>Overall the food was very good, as was the service although perhaps a little over attentive at times which can become a little annoying but the venue is great and we will be back.
