Review Adriatico - Auckland Central

1/ Always a favourite, never disappoints. Busy lil’ place just before Xmas. 2/ must be our first visit for 2023, cosy atmosphere, great food. 3/ return visit after owners holiday, very steady service for a Friday night, a very nice dinner for two.

Food was exceptional and service was great. The staff were very accommodating with our toddler and brought her books/toys to keep her occupied so we could enjoy our meal. Didn’t have to wait too long for our meals even though the place was busy. But yes, the food is what makes this place special.

I’ve eaten at many Italian restaurants. This one competes well with La Rosa in Glen Eden. My first time coming and we were received by a girl who was on her first day of the job. She did splendidly. The staff were friendly. The place was clean. The service was quick. I ordered the “Alexander”. Medium rare steak in mushroom sauce. Brilliant. My only complaint would be the price. But with the cost of ingredients honestly it’s fine. If you want a cheaper experience at the cost of taste quality reduction go to La Porchetta. If you’re feeling a little fancy and want something delicious - head here!

Welcome home :) We missed you :) Absolutely beautiful food and service as usual. Vegetables are always perfectly cooked, not overdone, steak was superb. Owen was hanging out for his chicken livers, he does not get this at home. Our whole meal was beautifully cooked. Have been going here for over 20 years. Wonderful restaurant. Excellent food every time with friendly lovely service. The Chicken Alla Firenze is amazing. Owner always comes out and says hello to us and other guests. Highly recommend.

I was in the area and came here for dinner. The inside is quite cosy and relaxing with the decor and lighting. The menu has quite a lot of different options including pasta, pizza and a range of different meats. They also have a specials blackboard on the wall if you were wanting something different. I had the small cannelloni as an entree and it was really nice. The meat sauce was nice although it was really hot. The Veneziana Steak wasn't what I was expecting for a marsala sauce since it was tomato based. It was tasty nonetheless and cooked just right. The best part was dessert, honey pancakes with chocolate sauce. The chocolate sauce was just right, chocolatey and sweet but not overwhelming. The pancakes were soft and mopped up the sauce but I couldn't really taste the honey. It was unfortunate that they were out of the limoncello gelato though. A really nice place for a meal with good food and service.

Service staff were friendly and attentive. Restaurant was cute and the aroma of the food was so good. Best part is the food matched the aroma. Absolutely mouth watering.

What a great restaurant! Adriatico has become our regular date night spot. The food is fantastic as well as the service. Definitely give the gnocchi special and hazelnut chicken a try, something different and very tasty. Hope the coffee machine will be fixed soon as we'd love to give it a try!

Ordered chicken tortellini and it was amazing. Staff and chef were so friendly and understanding our needs and the results didn't disappoint. Only disappointment was that I didn't order main size.

First time I have been to this restaurant. As soon as you walk in the atmosphere hits you. Locals eating and ordering their favorites, laughing and enjoying themselves. This restaurant is the real deal, if you want authentic Italian this is the place. My new local for sure. Oh and the waitress are so lovely. You won’t be disappointed Thanks team !

We always love the food here, be it takeaway or dining in. We feel it is the best Italian food in West Auckland. However, this time was not quite as good as previously. Could not have a coffee because the machine was broken and they did not have one of the ingredients for the pasta dish we ordered so were offered an alternative. It was OK, but not as nice as usual. Lasagne was perfect, as was the Tiramusu. Hope the coffee machine is operating next time we visit. P.S. I appreciate that coffee machines do break down, but surely an alternative could be offered. Even an ordinary filter coffee would suffice, especially if the machine is waiting for a part from overseas.

We love this restaurant. All of the staff are lovely, and the owners often come over for a chat. The food is always perfect no matter what we order.

Im a NZ born Chinese, today on Valentines day my partner and I felt what exactly racism feels like. There isn't words I could use to express such nonsense customer service. We visited on Valentines Day. We knew it was a busy day so we called in at 4:50pm to ask if there were any available tables. They informed us that there were two available slots 6:15pm and 8:15pm. We chose to dine at 6:15pm. When we arrived there were around 8 available tables. The waitress took us to a table situated in front of the restrooms. We kindly asked if we could be reseated to a next available table. And at that point everything went well, the young waitress there was very polite. We made our order and had out entrees served. While waiting for the mains, it took a while and understanding that it is a very busy night, we kindly asked the waitress to help us check on our mains. Suddenly, a gentlemen from another table approached my partner and told her to turn her phone off. A while later he turned around and said" I don't know which phone of you's is constantly ringing, but it is driving me nuts". I showed him our phonesand told him it wasn't ours that have been ringing. He made us feel quite uncomfortable with the way he talked. I then talked to the waitress and told her about the situation. This is when the nightmare started. Straight away she said that those were regular customers and she can't really do anything and went straight to the manager. The manager came out followed by the Chef. I tried to explain the situation to them, but the Chef was very rude. He said we called at 6pm and they gave us the table at 6:15pm, and that we complained about the table, which is nonsense because we called in advance to "ask" if there were any available tables and at that time you gave us options to choose from. When we came we politely asked if there were any other tables that we may be able to be seated in. He theb said that they were regular customers and we should not be complaining. He said that if we don't like it we can go somewhere else. I've been in New Zealand for 27 years and had never come across such poor service! I have to be very fair on this, the food was good but staff there were rude and arrogant. Would never go back and would not recommend any Asian customers to approach, because while we were quite a few other customers asked if they could get reseated and they had not had a problem with that

We have been coming to this delightful restaurant on and off for many a year. Food is delicious and so tasty. Love the calamari griglia and the catalonie. So tasty. Old favorites of mine. Owners are great and always welcome you with a smile. Never had to wait for anything.  Another favorite is angelico chicken.

Ordered a Spaghetti Bolognese for takeaway. Sauce was tasty but too much oil and not enough meat in it. Serving size was big which I liked.<br/><br/>Staff were friendly and food was prepared on time. They said 15 minutes and it was prepared in 15 minutes.

Food was nice, the squid was absolutely delicious and my pasta was quite nice. I came with 4 other people and everyone wasn't overly impressed but said it was pleasant. Service was great. My brother got the seafood pasta which had hardly any seafood in it and the 2 prawns were so soggy and over cooked. Was very expensive for what we got.

I came here for dinner with family and friends for my birthday . The food was amazing and the staff and service were excellent. We loved it! We will definitely come back again.

Went here last night and as someone who’s lived in West Auckland for over 25 years, I was really surprised with the quality of food. The garlic or chilli bread is definitely worth a try and every dish had great authentic flavour. I got the Alexander steak and couldn’t have been more satisfied.

Wow. The scallops were PERFECTION, served on the most tantalising creamy mushroom risotto, what an incredible dish. Adriatico is a simply adorned family restaurant with outstanding food (all in my group really enjoyed), now I can't wait to return...

Delightful, warm, cosy and yum! Great little spot in Henderson. Had the garlic bread plus two different fettuccine dishes. All were top notch! Will definitely return there soon.

Driven past this place probably thousands of times (lived locally my whole life) and got to go here for date night! It's small and cosy, has a couple of different table arrangements. The decor is a bit worn, but warm and I loved the photos/art on the walls. Service prompt and friendly. Tried a couple of things on the menu. Entree= Garlic Bread. Mains= Tortellini alla Panna, Spaghetti Carbonara (both entree size) and Chef's special pizza. Dessert=Tirami Su(takeaway) Food was delicious and tasted really authentic (though I have not been to Italy I imagine it would taste like this). My partner really enjoyed the food here too and we are keen to come back, thinking maybe a bi monthly date night here.

What divine food we had last night from the fettuccini Di Pollo to the Alexander Steak the best steak so far in Auckland we've tasted and to top that off with dessert, what topping is that on the pancakes, that was divine....compliments to the Chef, tucked away in that little corner but the food is delicious and divine

Another family favourite for birthday dinners. Garlic bread, lasagne, chicken principessa are all favourites. Very friendly staff who recognise regulars on sight and treat them like family. Great choice if you're in Henderson.

Awesome Italian atmosphere accompany by good service. Had Alexander Steak and Tiramasu for dessert. Definitely coming back for more. Wine selection pretty good too. If you want quite night out this is definitely the place to be.

I have been here numerous times one of my favourite dishes is from here, the chicken and calamari salad with balsamic and feta dressing. Takeaway is also available. You usually get seated and your order taken straight away. Sometimes it takes a little longer to get your meal served especially in a larger group. The staff are very friendly and come and check that your meal is ok once you have started eating. Prices and portion sizes are reasonable and there is a decent selection of food to choose from as well as the specials board. Highly recommend going there.

This place serves AMAZING garlic bread! The meals are reasonably priced and the staff are lovely! I ordered a standard pizza and it was delicious! I will definitely be going back

Small Italian restaurant in the heart of little West Auckland. Reasonably priced too. Don't require a booking usually. Come here often specifically for the beef cannelloni (filled with mince beef, onion and egg topped with mozzarella and cheddar) and the tortellini alla panna (roasted chicken tortellini in mushroom and ham and garlic creamy sauce). Delicious every time! The main size is not too generous but always very filling. There's also the option of takeaway if you don't feel like dining in.

I recently ate at this restaurant and it was definitely the best Italian place I've eaten at so far! I ordered the Adriatico special and I was delicious, the portion sizes were good so that I had enough space to eat their delicious mousse. I would definitely come back again! The staff were very friendly and the small area was beautifully decorated.

Our plates were polished clean! Should have come long ago but glad we finaly made the trip here.<br/><br/>The pork parmigina scallopini and slow roasted cherry pork belly were amazing. Spag bol was also very good. We did feel the beef filling for canaloni was a little bit under seasoned but no big deal. All ingredients were fresh and tasted healthy.<br/><br/>Over all a very nice night out and look forward to coming back.

The main was pretty average, nothing amazing but perfectly edible. For dessert my wife had the chocolate mousse and I wanted the tiramisu. After being told that there was no tiramisu left, I also went for the chocolate mousse. Big mistake. The chocolate mousse did not have a lot of flavour, and what flavour it did have was not that pleasant. We are not usually people to complain so both my wife and I did try to eat the mousse. But both gave up part way through. When telling the staff that the mousse was not up to scratch, the response was “well you will have to pay for it because you’ve eaten too much of it”. After being treated like that I will not be going back again. The service and dessert both rate as disgusting. And for the whole trip home there was a nasty taste left in my mouth, both from the dessert and the service.

Nice little Italian place tucked away in henderson, always busy, great staff and great food, however the place is quite small and we were forced to sit at a table in the middle of the thoroughfare which was a bit awkward but otherwise a great little place for some authentic food, will be back :)

Ok lil place tucked away in Henderson. We had the steak and cannelloni which were both ok but not superb. However service was very attentive and friendly and the place was packed which is good but our table was right on the middle of everyone. Overall nice for Henderson but the dishes could be use a bit more effort.

My partner and I are regular customers here and love the food, service and atmosphere. It doesn't feel like you're in the middle of Henderson at all. <br/><br/>The prices are good, I usually only have to get an entree pasta dish to feel satisfied but it tastes so good that I tend to get a main and feel stuffed! <br/><br/>Will always recommend to friends and family.

After a long and exhausting day, found this jewel while looking for food. Didn't realize such a place existed in Henderson. Best pepperoni pizza and garlic bread i have ever tasted. This is one of the best places out West Auckland to eat, the best part with regards to this place is that they do a fantastic takeaway menu. <br/><br/>Don't get me wrong the dine in experience is great, the place is as expected for a nice dining place, a bit dark inside with twinkling candles in the evening (so a romantic setting), the service is great and the dine in menu is good. The pasta's are divine, you cannot go wrong with anyone you pick on the menu. I didn't always like cannelloni because it is often a hit or miss Italian dish but at Adriatico, any pasta dish is a hit.<br/><br/>I've had a chance to try some of their other dishes such as the steaks and various chicken and seafood dishes (all available on dine in menu) and it's been great. Good size place to book a night out with family and friends, a romantic dinner with your other half or a night out with the girls for vino and great food.<br/><br/>Now back to the reason why I wanted to leave a review, like a lot of people who simply do not have time unless you plan it and make an effort to go out after a long day at work, on most days or even weeks, I do not want to make the effort, I don't want to go eat out. And as for sticking to plans, plans just simply fall through because (admit it) we simply lead hectic lives and plans change.<br/><br/>However, that does not mean that I want to eat crappy food and after a long day at work and my head is sore, my back is sore and everything else is sore, I just want to come home, pick up the phone and order...let someone else do the cooking for me that will leave me content and feeling like a human being again. <br/><br/>That is what takeaways from Adriatico is for me, comfort food that tastes amazing and leave me feeling satisfied. Now all this from a takeaway...you may ask? Well you simply will just have to take my word for it and give them a call. Prices are reasonable on takeaway menu and once you've tried, you will find yourself ordering  Italian takeaways more and more and less of the chip puttys from your local fish & chip place.<br/><br/>Takeaway Prices: $5 - $24<br/>Food: Great<br/>Service: Friendly<br/>Takeaway Packaging: Covered Aluminium Containers - keeps it nice and hot for when you get it home.<br/>Delivery: Unfortunately they don't deliver.

This is the first time ever that I have felt compelled to write a review on a restaurant! After a lot of ringing around I finally found Adriatico to host 16 of my family members for a Birthday party on a Saturday night and boy am I glad they could help me! Their staff were wonderful - friendly and efficient and the service was excellent. The food was delicious, everyone in our group was happy with their meals and it was reasonably priced. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed with quite a few other family groups making for a full house. All in all Adriatico did a great job and I would happily return again.

Very impressed with the quality of the food and the service, best garlic bread I have ever tried before. Music makes for a lovely relaxing atmosphere.

Found this one night while strolling through Henderson. Was surprised to see a fancy Italian restaurant there tbh. Very cynically, I tried their pasta and have been there thrice since. Last time I had their chicken risotto and got one packed for the next day ?

I had the lasagne, not the greatest for an Italian restaurant. I was expecting something great, tasted ok and looked like it exploded on the plate.<br/>Bugger I should've taken a photo to show you. service was good, overcharged for this. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon.

Food quality is always amazing. Each time I've been it's better than the last. I took my family here for my birthday and they were all impressed. Only suggestion I could give is larger portions, but that's restaurants I guess. Will try come again soon, this place is amazing.

We have patronised Adriaticio for many years and visit frequently. However ,last visit was very disappointing. We were booked for 6-30pm on a Friday evening and when ordering were told that they had run out of the blackboard special of fish and also lasagne (of all things) was not available!! I ended up ordering Steak Alexandra and was very disappointed in the presentation and also the steak was very tough. Certainly not their usual high standard. Always we would credit them with 5 stars, however last night they dropped to a 3 <br/>Joy K 12/7/14

We went to Adriatico for my birthday and we were a bit disappointed. I am huge fun of Italian food, coming from a Italian family, we thought the food has pretty average. My pasta was good and the portion was reasonable. Unfortunately for my sister and mother in-law it was quite the opposite. They have ordered Gnocchi and the portion size was the same as a starter, plus there was very little sauce. <br/>We might go back one day and give it another try but so far it's far away from being one of our favorite Italian restaurant.

Delighted to find a brilliant Italian Restaurant in Henderson!<br/><br/>I read the reviews on Menu Mania prior to going to Adriatico and decided we'd make up our own minds. The experience didn't start off well as I left a message requesting a reservation and unfortunately nobody got back to me.<br/><br/>Nevertheless we turned up (Tuesday night) assuming we'd be able to get a table and were greeted by friendly staff and seated quickly.<br/><br/>We had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The place has a really nice atmosphere. Our waitress was helpful and friendly and took our drinks order and brought us drinks in good time. We enjoyed the garlic bread as a starter.<br/><br/>Our meals were the (rare) Steak Alexander and the Chicken Cacciatore, which were both perfectly cooked and delicious.<br/><br/>We will definitely be going back, this place is awesome, a great find!

Been going to Adriatico for so many years its incredible. The pasta in particular is very good but I also am partial to the steak alexander.<br/><br/>The only thing about Adriatico that loses a star is its setting. It is on the main strip in Henderson and there are often street kid losers hanging outside which is intimidating and the neighbours are $2 shops etc.<br/><br/>In contrast, a really average italian restaurant in Glen Eden is very busy because it has a better location. Please mate, relocate to a better spot so my wife actually wants to go there.

We have visited Adriatico many times with great success, everything just right...but last Saturday was terrible.....we waited nearly an hour and half for our meal. Didn't really want it when it arrived.....fortunately it was good as usual.<br/><br/>They were very busy, don't know if they were understaffed, but I didn't enjoy the night. <br/><br/>Hopefully will be better next time.....

This is a real gem. highly recommend.<br/><br/>Where to go on the one night without the kids? <br/>It's pretty limited in Henderson. Hanger? up to Westgate? New Lynn? Town? Just how far do us Westies have to go to get a nice meal?! Most of the options are pretty grim and average. <br/><br/>Well this is now top of my list... Probably the best option for dinner in the region. Delicious pasta and pizza, friendly attentive staff. And a pretty decent dessert too i might add :)<br/><br/>And close enough to the mall we could just rock up and see a movie after dinner!<br/><br/>Awesome!

Best Italian ever! I have been coming here for special occasions since I was a child. The food tastes amazing and the service is always wonderful. I love the Fettuccine de Pollo for an entree, my favourite for a main is the Steak Alexander and the most decadent desserts are the pancakes swimming in chocolate sauce and ice cream or the chocolate mousse. But if they have the lemon cello gelato on the specials board you must try it!!! They also have yummy special coffees and the garlic bread is beautiful. My children love their pizzas. A quaint little place hidden in the heart of Waitakere.

We are irregular - regulars here. My wife introduced me to Adriatico in 2006. We have been 2 to 3 times a year since then. The menu is easy for her as she knows it by heart but always has the same thing. I try to never have the same thing twice so am working through the menu. I have to say i have never been let down. Chicken liver entrée and the Chicken and apricot main are Always her choice. For me, I have never had a better Squid entrée followed closely by the Scallops. I haven't tried the steak or the pizzas at all. None of the mains have ever disappointed.<br/><br/>We are early eaters, so are always able to get a table. The staff are always the same. Quiet &amp; friendly. The meals can be slow to arrive but as mentioned above we have never been let down.<br/><br/>A really good place to eat

Loved this place. Great Italian food, and a pretty extensive menu. The garlic bread was very good, and my main of Pork Masala was delish, yum yum. Nothing left on my plate! Nice atmosphere and decor, friendly staff always a plus. Look forward to going back.

One word YUM! Great little place. I had the steak, it was perfectly cooked and the combination with sauce was great! Would definitely come back as I also love how central in Henderson it is. The only reason I didn't give a a full 5 stars is because I could write more!

First experience with the place was terrible. We walked in and asked if we could just have a drink. They told us no worries and the bar is over there. We asked for Cider (on the menu) but didn't have. We asked for another thing off the menu but they didn't have it either so decided to go for just a simple beer and were then told that we were only allowed to drink if we would order food with it so we left.<br/><br/>Gave it a second shot last Thursday. Reception was very unfriendly but the waitress serving us on the table was very nice introducing herself to us and really looked after us during the night without being pushy. Started with some bread, Real good home baked bread. As a main we both had chicken Frangelico . was o.k but next time I’ll take the small portion because it was HUUUGE! Food was a little pricey and no carpark.<br/><br/>The Big Boss could at least Smile, grumpy old man he was, pizza hut here we come..

Whilst in auckland for 3 weeks on business, we discovered an absolutely amazing Italian restuarant, Adriatico's.<br/>Between the 5 of us we tried a lot of the menu and could not fault the Steak, Pasta, Pizza or Pork Belly. Incredible taste to all the dishes and their sauces. The garlic bread was simply delicious.<br/>The service was good and Dimitar was the perfect host and chef.<br/>Well recommended by Donald and his mates.

I've been here a few times and always found the service great, the staff friendly and the food absolutely delicious. Its very classy and an ideal restaurant to take a dinner date to! It's one of the established restaurants in Henderson.<br/><br/>They make all their pizzas, fresh garlic bread and the spaghetti mamma mia is mmm. They also do takeaway. Bookings recommended for dinner as it is quite a small restaurant.

We ate at Adriatico for dinner and found the service not particularly good. We were seated and asked immediately if we wanted bread to start, seeing as we hadn't even had a chance to look at the menu we said no, but then regretted it as our orders were not taken for a long time after that and we couldn't even get the waitresses attention. <br/><br/>We ended up just ordering mains and then dessert. The mains were very good and we really enjoyed them but the dessert (tiramisu) was rubbish and didn't remotely resemble the traditional dessert, being just plain sponge with a bit of regular cream and cheap sundae sauce on top. <br/><br/>Overall, in terms of value for money it was ok, but not great, especially for the dessert.

This place is superb. Honestly time after time it never fails. Food is amazing I can never fault it and I am a pretty fussy eater. The steak dishes in particular are exceptional, they are always to your order never over or under cooked and are full of flavour. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Compliments to the chef and front of house staff as this has to be one of the best Italian restaurants in Auckland.

WOW... What a great little restaurant for Henderson. I usually just think of Tony's when someone wants to eat out in Henderson, but Adriatico was a lovely surprise. Food was delicious, service excellent, prices a little higher than expected but good quality food.

18 Sept 2010 - Had a fantastic anniversary dinner last night. The garlic bread is a must have. Both the Involtini and Chicken Alla Firenze were outstanding. The chocolate mousse was good, but the Macchiato Gelato was divine. The house wines were pleasant drinking, and the coffee was superb, as always - my short black was not bitter at all. And the delicious port was the perfect way to cap off a brilliant dinner. The waitresses were helpful and courteous, if a little inexperienced. The toilets are pretty average.<br/>All in all, a magical evening. We will be back! Soon.<br/><br/>Update August 2012: We have been here several times now, and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently great: very tasty, but not over-rich, and the portions are large. Our orders were taken and food served quickly. The waitress was very pleasant and helpful, but informal and casual....which we like. And the boss was friendly and all smiles :-) A very relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, not stuffy - great for dining with family, friends and workmates....or just the two of us. Our new favourite restaurant, for sure.

We went there as a group of four and all had different meals. All of which were very good. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Clean and tastefully decorated. Would happily return and take others there.
