Lovely place, easy to miss if you're not looking for it! I had the mushrooms on toast very tasty, I can recommend highly. Good portion size and unlike some mushrooms on toast I didn't have a sickly rich feeling at the end of it. Did have a side of rosemary fries as well that we shared amongst the table and they went down well with the sauce. Fries are a good portion and tasted great as well. Wifey had a bagel with avocado, tomato, cream cheese and pesto. She was impressed by the portion size as well, it looks like she got a whole avo with the bagel so they don't skimp on the ingredients :) Friend had scrambled eggs and sourdough. Everyone was happy with their meals and we all got some leftovers to take away.

I was here for brunch with few of my mates. I must say, I had a Mushroom on toast and it was absolutely delicious and heard the same from the rest of my team also. The staff was very polite and had some great customer service skills. Would definitely return and would highly recommend! Cheers

Nice small French café. Offering standard all day breakfast dishes, but with French twist, omelettes, salads. Very friendly service. Small cozy place.
Ale I
Nice little suburb eatery, with simple food inspired by the popular French cuisine. We had a croque monsieur with a side of chips and a nutella crepes. The croque monsieur had sourdough instead of the common white bread(nice touch) and came with a side of mesclun salad really nicely seasoned. The crepes was ok. Non alcoholic drinks/coffee menu is pretty standard for a cafe of this sort, nice to see plenty of non dairy milk options and supreme coffe. Not a destination but a nice suburbian surprise.

We came here for some latte art and this place did not disappoint! The atmosphere was cosy and inviting. The staff are welcoming and attentive. There's a great variety on the menu from breakfast, lunch, evening, desserts, wine and drinks. Compared to your regular cafe there isn't just one item on the menu that's vegetarian but a good selection of uniqye dishes. I ordered the Eggs Florentine. It came out piping with runny yolks, succulent mushrooms and banging flavour. My friend ordered the Smashed Avo Sourdough Tartine and she had no complaints even though she normally hates asparagus. We ordered a hot chocolate and mocha and got the most adorable 3D latte art. The drinks were delicious, they did not compromise on the heat. A bonus was that real chocolate was used, which mades a difference in quality that we could taste. The only issue was that we only received our drinks as we were going to finish our meal (which is understandable since of the effort). I would highly recommend this place. The food is top notch and the drinks are divine (caffeinated or alcoholic).

Such an awesome breakfast place. Had the eggs benedict and my wife had the eggs florentine and both were absolutely delicious. The foam art on the coffee and chai latte were a nice touch too. All in all a great experience with really yummy food.

Good service, good food, and nice people. Had croque madame with fries and smoothie (gym time), personally I like that smoothie a lot💛💛 My friends had breakfast du rol and mushroom on toast, all of them look good and taste good. It was a great lunch, I will definitely visit there again soon.

Great cosy local french place in the residential shops. Went there for a typical lunch and food was tasty with french twist and staff was friendly too. I loved the mocha in particular as they had real chocolate added. Cant wait to return and try the dinner menu duck confit.

Wasn’t the most memorable visit. The food was okay, however compared to our previous visit a year ago the service standard and food quality had drop. The two waitresses who was standing at the counter was busy on the mobile. The food looked very dry on the plate and nothing special.

Coffee was superb, and on top, they gave the best service. Barista man had done a tremendous job. He made the best latte art. We were so happy with that experience. I will go again. :)

Amazing food, would recommend and there was quite a nice range from vegetarian options to non. Had the eggs benedict and avacados bagel which were both unique! Eggs bene had a lemon taste while the avacados was really good!
JC Silva
Excellent choices in breakfast and dinner menu. Croque Madame is massive and delicious. Perfect Eggs Bennie. Awesome coffee. My favourite place for weekend brunch. Will try dinner soon.

Fantastic coffee and service and quite possibly the best viennoiserie's in Auckland
Dan Chierighini
This place is amazing! They also have the best barrista in Auckland here too! Check out his amazing coffees in the pics. His coffee art is incredible! To top it off, they have great menu too and amazing pastry selection

Really cute place. Very hospitable. Great select of dishes. Healthy tasty food.

Coffee was superb, and on top they gave best service. Barista man had done a tremendous job. He made best latte art. We were so happy with that experience. Will definitely go again. :)

Food good but server unfriendly. Have been coming off and on for years but she really put us coming again. Was quiet.<br/>Brought one table menu not us. Had to ask, each interaction from her was a real effort for her. Very unfriendly and unprofessional. Happened just after cafes opened again from covid she just couldn't be bothered<br/><br/>
Wupping
I suspect this place has changed hands. Shocking service and forgotten orders.
Justin Mayer
In a word, Appalling. The Cafe was half empty yet we waited 30min before having our orders taken and that was only because we eventually had to grab the clean up girl to take it! 4 tables around us had to go then the country and asked where food or drinks were and when they would be served! Multiple tables were left covered in used crockery for the entirety of our stay. Used to be regulars, won't be back again.

Had lunch here with the team today <br/>Small cafe on Sandringham rd<br/>Place was packed lucky we booked a table <br/>Staff there super friendly <br/>Food came out nice and hot<br/>Super tasty as well !!<br/>We will definitely be back <br/>Thanks

Really like this spot. Excellent coffee nearly all the time. <br/><br/>Love the salmon and avocado bruschetta especially. The evening meals are also great when we went a few months ago for an evening meal. Great spot for lunch. Lots of options and some sweet options on the counter too!

I love my eggs benedicts and was really disappointed with my experience here. The bread was over toasted and it felt like I ws chewing cardboard, the eggs overdone- close to boiled and very little hollandaise. It left a very awful after taste in my mouth as well. Presentation was bad, not a single bit of greenery. Maybe some roasted tomatoes or avacadoes or a nice garnished salad would have made the plate look more pleasing. Its not good paying $19 for cardboard really. Good amount of bacon was the only plus. will not be returning.

Yup, carefully crafted coffee - good!<br/>Yup, freshly made pastries - delicious! In fact pretty good compared to many cabinet food at cafes these days.<br/><br/>Ambient/ deco - warm and simple<br/>Service - decent. Could improve on speed. <br/><br/>Will try their hot food next time. So far, I’ll give them a 3.8/5.

Petit Bocal was a damn let down. Came here for mother's day with my family and wasn't impressed at all. We first ordered coffee's and they were pretty fast to come but my dad's flat white didn't come with the rest of the coffee's it just sat on the counter for ages so he just ended up going and getting his coffee himself. When we were waiting for our food to come our dirty coffee glasses and cups stayed on the table for ages and the cafe wasn't busy and the waitresses kept looking around because they had nothing to do but nope they still didn't clear the dirty cups away. Our food took ages to come it took 45mins, who knows why it took so long because like I said before the cafe wasn't even busy. When our food came everyone's eggs were over cooked so wasn't enjoyable. i got the Breakfast Bruschetta with bacon, when my food comes it's served with salmon and not bacon so I had to send mine back. My food also had pesto all over it and I absolutely hate pesto and on the menu it never stated any pesto so we complained that it should be on the menu incase someone like me who doesn't like pesto orders it, the lady told us that "Bruschetta means pesto", we were very confused at that comment because if you search up the definition of Bruschetta it says "toasted Italian bread drenched in olive oil and served typically with garlic or tomatoes" It clearly doesn't say anything about pesto. My dad and brother got the Eggs Benedict and the toast didn't come with butter which was weird because usually you'd get butter with your toast and I noticed all of the other tables also asked for butter like us. As half of us were still eating and the over half had finished the waitresses started clearing the plates which is not what is supposed to happen, you are meant to clear plates when everyone is done so you aren't reaching over everyone still eating. We ended up complaining when we paid and because they felt bad that we weren't impressed they gave us the flat white and my meal for free which was kind of them. Will never go back here totally not worth it! x

I got the creme brulee. It had the satisfying crack 😍 and the short bread was nice too.<br/>The creme brulee itself was heavy though. Keen to come back to try other things on the menu.

Petit Bocal is local and close to me and I love it! The bagels are to die for and I get it every time without fail. Coffees and delicious and staff are super friendly and amazing

Nice coffee arts, good service, tasty food , too hungry , due to haven’t got time to take the picture for the food, yum yum Egg Florentine , love it the most. And beautiful flowers today. Btw, Personally I think is the best croissant in the Auckland.
Emma Magee
Tried this place out for the first time the other day & I wasn’t overly impressed with the food. Perhaps this could be my own fault though in ordering the basic poached eggs. The hollandaise sauce was unique and good with a lemony after taste but it didn’t quite make up for the over cooked eggs or substantially hard bread the eggs came on. The service was however good and my friend thoroughly complimented the coffee served. I think I would like to try this place again and order something else in the future.

I went today after seeing the cute coffees on Zomato. We went for my sons birthday, we were offered a baby seat on arrival, and an umbrella on departure. Polite and helpful service. Yum food. Only thing I was disappointed with was I ordered a flat white and it didn't have a cute bear or cat, just a traditional leaf pattern... How do I get a bear? I need to know for next time we come :-)

We went for dinner on a Friday night. I had the plate of the day (lamb rump) and my wife had a platter. Both very well presented and delicious. It is priced quite right for what you get.
Jason
The food is clearly not as described in the pictures, I think it was taken a long time ago, very disappointed. For that price you can have so much better around Auckland!

This was a highlight of our NZ trip. A warm, cosy, stylish space and delightful, attentive staff. But what stands out is the food – this is the food you long for when you dream of France. From the ham-laden, succulent pissaladiere to the moules mariniere made with plump, green-lipped mussels, then the glorious tarte tatin where each ingredient was prepared perfectly in every detail, to the creme brulee that was not only the lightest, melt-in-your mouth creme topped with crunchy berries – that would have been enough in itself – but add the best chocolate ice cream we have both ever tasted – dense and chocolate-studded – and the warm, ethereal shortbread. Petit Bocal has become our go-to for any time we're in Auckland.
Sandra
Poor food quality and doesn't look like the pictures at all. <br/>The place is very noisy when it gets crowded and could be much more clean. Service is ok, but for a "french restaurant" you should expect something better, especially at this price. I would not recommend.

Me n 3 found this late night coffee shop who are open til 10. What a haven to find on such a miserable night. The 2 ladies in there were so pleasant. It was such a well lit place. 2 of us shared a chocolate fondant and the other the apple tart, we all really enjoyed them, the coffee was great also. I would thoroughly recommend Petit Bocal

A very nice little place with very friendly staff.<br/>We went for brunch and ordered the breakfast au roix and it didn't disappoint us.<br/>A good place to go every day of the week!

Quietly pointing out that our lovely Prime Minister Jacinda came to have lunch here as well today at the next table. Very low key with only 2 security men. Also noticed there were a lot of women eating here today. We had our monthly office lunch here. We had the goat cheese salad which was delicious with hand cut chips. I especially liked the cheese and salad dressing. I did find the kumera very dry and could need a bit of relish but enjoyed it. The Monsieur looked very filling and it was like a sandwich dipped in egg with a salad. The coffees were very cute with the added animal faces. Salmon brushetta was nice with potato tartin. We enjoyed the atmosphere and would come back for a baguette sandwich next time. I wonder if they bake their own baguette đŸ„–

Most amazing coffee art in Auckland! The coffees really look like a work of art and taste really good as well. The food is really nice as well.
Maia Churichkova
Not a lot to fault at this place. The food is always exceptional, though sometimes takes a while to come out, but well worth it. Each of the breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus is extensive. The gratin is one of the best sides and their smoothies are massive so be aware. Portions generally are very reasonable for the price so you'll never walk away hungry. The only drawback is the service - often slow and not super friendly - quite standard really. If you've got somewhere to be it would be best to go up and order yourself as it takes them a while to come to the table. Would definitely recommend for the food and atmosphere.

Not sure how I hadn't discovered Petit Bocal yet but it may just be my new favourite cafe! Everything on the French inspired menu that I have tried so far has been cooked to perfection. The baguettes are so fresh and consistent (we've had them several times). They're also a good price for the size of it and come with a side salad which ha as really tasty dressing. The fries are perfectly golden and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. We also tried the steak dish and Croque Monsieur which were faultless. <br/><br/>The cafe itself is clean and modern, and staff are nice and professional 😊👍

Petit Bocal is one of my favourite brunch places. The restaurant is chic and vintage, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The mushrooms on toast and bruschetta are a super combination if you are sharing with friends. Great coffee. Always will go back.
Yafenxu123
This unimpressive French restaurant makes me really surprised. Especially in their creative coffee making. Of course, they made delicious food with a well-balanced flavor. It is deserved to be known by more people.

I ordered the baguette sandwich (prosciutto ham) and it was delicious. The most interesting part of the dish was suprisingly the baguette itself. Despite being very hungry I only managed to eat half of the sandwhich. I also ordered a latte. Not being a coffee expert I cannot give a proper review but just as an avergae coffee drinker, it was pretty good. The highlight was definitely there staff who were a pleasure to talk to. In summary, it's a great place you must try when in Sandringham!

How did we not know about this treasure?! Tiny, local, delightful, plain and sensible cafe, the focus is on the food and the coffee (very good coffee it is too, with depth of flavour with a smidge of smokiness). We both decided on the Salmon gravlax with scrambled eggs, mine with a croissant (buttery heaven) the Partner with a toasted bagel (almost as good as il forno’s) and salad on the side. Scrumptious crĂ©me fresh with chives, and the gravlax (made in house!) Was salty and heavenly, full approval from the New Yorker. The staff are adorable youngsters, French for the most part, which for hilarious communication issues around the style of iced coffee we wanted. Nevertheless, we will be back.

One word to explain how me and friend (korean) felt... RACIST.<br/><br/>I rate this because of the service we recieved from just ONE waitress only. We might go back one day we don't see her there to revise score.<br/><br/>When we arrived and took our seat, we had to wave down the waitress for attention. She gave somewhat of a frown and gave us our menus, her response to my friend saying thank you and asking how her day was, was cold and disingenuous. No glasses or water given or offered.<br/><br/>Ater a few minutes of looking at our menu, we look up and see her whole persona change with other customers around us and her being so friendly to them asking how their meals were than walking past our table with avoidance. (We were the only ethnics in the cafe)<br/><br/>What reinforced it was when a couple (euro) walked in, she immediately grabbed a menu, bottle and glasses before the couple even found a table. After seating the couple she walks past us with a smirk.<br/><br/>For that reason we were so offended we just walked out and went elsewhere. Im here now sitting at another cafe writing this review and of all the places I have been to so far this was by far the wprst service.<br/><br/>

Been coming here for almost year for their coffee for the mrs, as it's highly rated in the city and every time I come the food looks great. This time though we had time to get some, the mrs had her usual flat with mushrooms on toast and I had the croque monsieur with fries.<br/><br/>Everything was delicious and came out quickly. The portions were very generous and looked beautiful as well which I really liked. Ambience is rather charming and laid back, it really calls out to me as place you want to kick back in. Service is excellent and friendly.

As late risers on weekends, this is one of our favourite places to have brunch. It's not a big cafe, so it's always crowded at weekends. Always ordered freshly baked baguettes and croissants (served with salad) with quality coffee. Awesome way to start the weekend. Can also recommend breakfast brochette as a must try. Delicious food and awesome service.

Cute small French cafe/restaurant on Sandringham Road. <br/>Went for my third visit this morning and first time to have breakfast here. Ordered a breakfast bruschetta and mushrooms on toast. <br/>Loved the chewy spongy bread and the tomato avocado salsa with basil. Very refreshing and would be a good choice on a bright summer morning. <br/>Coffee is nice enough with cute art. <br/>The cinnamon brioche is to die for! Very moist with a caramelized top as if like a creme brûlée. A must if you are a cinnamon lover like me.<br/>Definitely worth the drive from the shore, will visit again soon.<br/>

Authentic french bakery. The baguette was fresh and tasty and filled with simple but good quality ingredients. Feta cheese and sun dried tomatoes. The hot chocolate was delicious and very cute drink art.

awesome food steak are decilious and sauce are the good combination of the steak rich falvor and add extra moist to the steak make it become pretty juicy

Love the couscous salad and lamb chops, if the lamb had been more tender it would be perfect. The beef ribs was good too. <br/>Generous serving. Good service.<br/>Recommended restaurant.
Grace
always had a really positive experience here. Have been through the crepes, the granol, the eggs benedict and have all been amazing and are presented with taste. The muesli came with a real honeycomb in it. Love the fact that the waiters and waitresses are of french descent. Their smoothies and coffees are also really good with a talented barrister who does cute chocolate art on top of mochasđŸ€— It's also a decently priced menu.Definitely will come back here.

Food:4.5/5<br/>Service:4/5<br/>Parking: st parks around cafe<br/>Price: reasonable!<br/>Would I come back? YES<br/><br/>Apart from the dirty spoon smothered in someones sucked hot chocolate everything was perfect<br/>The cafe can get a bit busy so it was a little loud<br/>But their cabinet of pastries looked delicious and def want to try next time!<br/>Ordered the florentine eggs which was delicious! Perfectly cooked and the citrus hollandaise was amazing<br/>Bf ordered the breakfast bruschetta and that was equally good!<br/>They are known for their beautiful coffee art but too bad both of us were black coffee drinkers <br/>Will def be back to try your crossiants!
Juleigh Fariu Wichman Luu
Defs try the bagels for lunch, and chocolate fondant for dessert! 😍😍 worth the price and the atmosphere was awesome! For a mate and myself, lunch and dessert came to $50, but the quality of the portions were so filling so no complaints there đŸ€€đŸ€€

Best cafe in Auckland!!!! Impressed with the atmosphere and the quality of food! Coffee is great, criossant is as good as those i had in Paris - just love this place!!!! Highly recommended!

This place is incredible with their coffee foam art, and definitely makes the trip worth it! Food is also nice - it tastes fresh and you can tell that the ingredients used are of good quality. Definitely recommend their Croque Monsieur and Croque Madame if you're visiting for lunch :) Service was good, as the staff were friendly and helpful, though it does take a while for your food to come out when the cafe is busy.

Great place!!! First time visit for me and the customer service was awesome, got attended to perfectly and quickly. Food and coffee were amazing. Great atmosphere, highly recommend the place to all and will be back for more 👍👍

The food was absolutely wonderful, from preparation to presentation, very pleasing. Especially, I enjoyed the coffee with great art of work.

This place has the cutest coffee art!! I think I had a hot chocolate or mocha but it had the cutest bear on it. Definitely coming back here even if it's just for the coffee. The service here is very friendly and the waiter had a really nice accent. <br/><br/>We got the steak and the croque Monsieur or Madame (forgot which). The sandwich was delicious and the fries were nicely fried too. My partner said the steak was not as good as he expected as he asked for medium rare.
Alisdair Watson
Absolutely love this place, has a genuine European vibe with a fantastic pastries! Menu is lovely and coffee is also great, even better if you get the artistic version! Normally pretty busy in the weekends but tables turnover quickly so don't usually have to wait long.

Every time I drive past this place it always looks busy.... was finally able to find a carpark and try it out. <br/>We ordered:<br/>Sourdough tartine: salmon<br/>Picky lunch<br/>The selection on the picky platter worked so well.... my favourite was the Tartine that was delicious. <br/>My only gripe would be to cover the pastries on the counter top as everyone is leaning over them to pay.<br/>Will be back though... what a little gem.

I really love this cafe. The fact that there is such unique and relaxing cafe not in the city is already a bonus. <br/><br/>I've been there about 3 times now, first for a lunch and later for drinks. The food is very simple but done so well, nothing out of the world crazy but done so well, so perfectly. And although I feel like paying $20 for something I can make for less than a half, I would still go back again - because it worth paying it for the perfection.<br/><br/>We were originally not planning on buying any drinks, until the waiter made one for another table and we were sold. I especially loved the iced chocolate as it wasn't very sweet at all, and I didn't feel sick finishing it off. <br/><br/>I've been told that they have quite few design for the coffee too, so I might need to make a few trips to see all the

This week we walked, because isn’t that just the best? Bustling and busy Petit Bocal is a lovely little local, quite the treat! The sun was on our side for our mid winter stroll, even better was the comfortable seating we nabbed outside! Inside, they have a very tidy minimalist decor and some very fitting iconic black and white French photography. Nicely presented yummy salads and steak & eggs were not bad classics but the highlight for our team was definitely the very novel, very creative smoothies. Rimmed with delightful ‘hundreds and thousands’ or seeds, edible flowers and for the sweet one, a yummy marshmallow.<br/><br/>Check out our individual food reviews here: husk.co.nz/lunches/petit-bocal-aug-2018

Petit Bocal was the choice of the morning for a picturesque catchup breakfast. It’s located away from the city hustle on a quiet part of Sandringham Road, making for a relaxed start to the day. Due to the early hour we didn’t have any issues having our choice of table, although I’m told it does get busier later in the day. I found Petit Bocal to be a nice little hidden gem of a cafe with friendly service and we were pleased with the food. My crepes were delicate and tantalising and the menus for lunch and dinner looked as excellent. The evening platters also sounded enticing and it would make for a great spot for an after work tipple.

This place is fantastic! Very reasonable priced French cafe for a quick but delicious lunch. Easy to get a park. The food was nice and the service attentive.<br/>

Excellent food & service. Good staff and different food from any restaurant in Auckland. Very quick service, neat & clean.<br/>When I reached first time I was not sure whether I opted good place for food but after having dinner I was delighted. All very best for restaurant.

This is place is so great !!! It is hiding in Sandringham. Awesome food, friendly service. Their ice coffee is very special, I love it !  Highly recommend !

We booked a table for new years eve, service was terrible, waitress couldn't be bothered, didn't even bother putting plates on the table, had to go and ask for them.  Won't be back here again.

Great little place hidden in Sandringham. The place was quite busy for a Wednesday night. Our server mixed up our order a bit but at the end we got what we ordered. I'm not usually big fan of fries but their dips were amazing. <br/><br/>The flottante was amazing! It was my first time ordering it and didn't know what to expect but from texture to taste, it was simply great
John Boyce
Nice restaurant, friendly staff perhaps a little too attentive at some points. Food was delicious, would highly recommend the platters, and the bread and butter pudding

Admitidly we went in mid arvo and the kitchen was closed, but we did call to see if they had any counter food... they said yes plenty. So we went as we were on the road and starving.<br/><br/>We arrived to see people eating and drinking and looking like they were having a good time. Things looked good.<br/><br/>Got to the counter and there were slim pickings. OK we can ask what's doable.... well we could if the staff could get off their bloody phones!!!!!!!!! One girl at the till was so busy texting she could hardly lift her eyes to acknowledge us. Barister was bust taking pics of cups and other staff were reading something. All while we were standing right at the counter.<br/><br/>In the end we left after we fletcher invisible<br/><br/>Seriously the worst customer service I've every experienced. If I was the owner I would have fired them on the spot.<br/><br/>Never going back. Never recommending. Never again.
Nicole Jana
I really enjoyed this place, my partner and I visited on a Saturday morning. It was quite busy but still managed to get a table. The service was great, and the decor was inviting and modern. I ordered a flat white and the avocado, tomatos on bruschetta (I forgot what the meal was called), delicious! Simple, clean food! Also, I love when little designs are made in the coffees, just adds such a cute touch I almost didnt want to drink my coffee! Thanks for the effort, I dont see alot of baristas putting any effort into coffee designs 😊

The quest to find the best iced coffee in my neighbourhood part 1:<br/>During study breaks over the exam period, I like to visit various nearby cafes for a spot of fresh air and caffeine. I decided that over this exam period I would try to find out who makes the best iced coffee in the neighbourhood. Here goes.<br/><br/>Petit Bocal did a frothy iced coffee, which seemed to be blended with ice rather than having whole ice cubes. I prefer it like this because otherwise the coffee can get watered down. There also seemed to be some small, unexpected chocolatey biscuit pieces in my drink. Intentional or not? I couldn't tell. I feel like if it was intentional then there should have been more biscuit pieces. I defenitely got a caffeine hit after this drink. Strong, despite the pale colour. The size was also quite generous, so the $7.80 price was fine, but I wouldn't pay any more than that. Overall pretty good. I'll probably order this one again because I did like it, and they're super local :)

Always amazing food (like REALLY good), the staff are lovely and helpful, and the amazing barista draws animals in the foam in your coffee. AND the coffee is really good. I love this place.
Roana Bilia
Best part about this place is that they do telephone reservations!! :D <br/>Super cute place. Staff are really nice. All the food is super satisfying, filling and the flavours are on point. <br/>If youre into all those rich product prices the sour dough w prosciutto, halloumi, pesto, roasted eggplant and egg is gonna become your new favourite brunch dish. <br/><br/>Also, their coffee guy does some cute art! >,>

This is a very cute cafe. Has a very vintage feel to this place. The staff are lovely.<br/>I really like how they create pictures onto your hot beverages.

Little French inspired cafe that is so hidden. I love the food and the coffee latte art is also just so cute. Highly recommended this cafe to everyone, especially coffee lovers.

A busy cafe/ bistro with delicious freshly baked French pastries. Their croissant was light and buttery... O my goodness. Bye bye diet, but worth it. <br/>Coffee by Supreme, delicious smoothies, and good selections in their menu! But one thing I seriously loved was the plate of thick cut fries!!!! Just super crispy outside but super fluffy on the inside. Amazing. <br/><br/>I went adventurous and tried the sardine dish. Not my thing because it is sardine from a can, a soft boiled egg and some chopped up baguette for $16. But very interesting though!!! <br/><br/>Service was quick but I wish our water was topped up more frequently.
Jessicamcharnley45
Yay an authentic, delicious non wank fest cafe. Classy, good food, good service and cute setting....aside from a few too many efiel tower photos. Great experience would definitely go again. It was very busy so we had a bit of a food wait but it was absolutely fine.

Went here last Sunday for brunch with a group of 4 other friends. The food was delicious! I ordered the bruschetta with avocado unfortunately a little light on the avocado front but couldn't really blame them for this given the extortionate price of them these days. The dishes are priced reasonably and are a good size for what you get. The hot chocolates are amazing and they had decorated little animals in them which was a nice touch. One of my friends had a smoothie which she enjoyed that was also a decent size and looked impressive in a tall jar type thing. Would definitely be back!

Out-bloody-standing! 😍😍😍. This is THE BEST CAFE EVER (seriously). The location is a little out of the way which is nice, the dĂ©cor is very cute but also clean cut. The vibe is very relaxed and slightly French đŸ‘šđŸ»đŸŽđŸŸ. Service is great, very attentive and not too 'clingy' (you know what I mean when I say this 🙄😉). The menu is mind blowing and the food is absolutely outstanding!! âœšđŸ’„đŸ”„âšĄïž. Please please please make this your best cafe to hit - they're open all day, even for dinner!

Tucked away along an unassuming block of shops in Sandringham, just around the corner from the cheap and cheerful eats along Dominion Road lies Petit Bocal, french for Little Jar. The tired streets may confuse you at first- it seems a more reasonable assumption that you’ll find a quick, greasy fish and chip shop than a modern eatery but that is the beauty of this not-so-hidden gem.

There is a reason why this place has a good rating. I was enticed by the instagram photos of those artsy hot beverage. I asked my sibling to go with me post movie. We were not disappointed. Because we were full, we didn't have anything to eat but just had the hot beverage instead. We had 2 hot chocolates and a cup of mocha. All were delicious without being too sweet. The place was pretty busy and I find it really cozy. Thanks to the talented barista for the drink!

Cute little cafe in Sandringham. We went for a Monday brunch so were seated straight away. Ordered coffee (Supreme) which was quick and very good. For food had the mushrooms - ciabatta toast and mushrooms with a creamy herby sauce and pesto. A simple dish that was surprisingly delicious!!! Thoroughly enjoyed and was nice to have something a little different than standard creamy mushrooms!

Went there around midday on queens birthday, we were seated quickly and brought water. We ordered coffee which arrived in a couple of minutes and tasted very good! We ordered avo tomato cream cheese bagels, which also arrived in under 10 minutes. The cream cheese was scarce but avo and tomato were generous and fresh; we were happy overall but the bagel was a bit tough and sort of tasted a bit stale. The brunch was overall not bad at all and we were in and out quickly; the service was really great and pricing reasonable. Would go back.

Cute little local cafe situated 10 mins from central auckland. Very busy when we arrived but the waitress prepared a table for us as soon as she could. <br/><br/>What I was looking forward to was the famous coffee arts that has been circulating around Instagram. But unfortunately, they weren't able to do the coffee arts on weekends as I was told. A bit disappointed but it was ok as I saw chocolate fondant was an available dessert choice. <br/><br/>The coffee came quickly but was slightly burnt. The dessert soon followed. The presentation was on point. And as I cut into the chocolate fondant, the gooey chocolate goodness came flowing out. YES. This was delicious and the creme anglaise was just the right amount of sweetness.

Absolutely loved my experience here. Went for brunch, was busy but great service and delicious food. The smoothies were also amazing. Highly recommend.

Amazing little cafe. Loved the variation on eggs bene especially the citrus hollandaise. Amazing coffee and great atmosphere. Even though it was very busy being a Saturday morning the staff were on the ball 100%. <br/>

Went here for brunch on a Sunday - was busy as expected. Waitress spoke to us about the menu but since it was busy she was rushing and it was obvious.<br/>Ordered a Croque Monsieur and a Croque Madame. They were both so cheesy - SO GOOD! Not a fan of the salad. Also ordered an iced mocha - tasted like straight coffee, was stronger than usual mochas I have.

The crowds don't lie! A great relaxed cafe for breakfast, lunch, or dinner & you can practice your school French on the waitresses. Large central communal table for groups or singletons, tables also out front if you're bringing the dog.<br/>Check out the menu - many very good choices for breakfast & lunch. Croissants suitably flaky, true French bread, nice & chewy as you would expect for a French cafe. The usual suspects for a good breakfast plus a few with a twist for those who are getting bored with eggs bene. <br/><br/>They serve excellent coffee with quite intricate designs.....Easter themed last weekend, bunnies, chicks & eggs...brings a smile.<br/>Dinner has a selection of platters with a few standard main dishes including an always beautifully cooked (pink) scotch steak with fries & salad. Delicious desserts including my favourite creme caramel.<br/>

I went here to get a takeaway cappuccino as it on the way and it always seems crowded too. The waitress seemed fine, but the guy at the barista seemed like he had the biggest attitude (for God knows what!!!). I ordered a large cappuccino and was given a regular one by the barista guy who refused to even make eye contact when I thanked him, and then realised it's a smaller size than I ordered. So I said, I've asked for a large. He checked with the waitress, quickly apologises without even meaning it, and again no eye contact. Then he makes another large one for me and just puts it on the table and I thanked him again, he simply ignored me.<br/>I'm sorry!! But customer service to me is important and I ain't returning back to this place as their staff need to be trained with some customer service skills. <br/>On the other hand, the usual places I get my coffee from are so jovial and pleasant, makes you wanna go back.<br/>Someone should seriously ask their barista what is his problem... And, now that I recall I've been here a while back and received the unfriendly service, so that's a no go for me in the future.

Great French cafĂš in Sandringham. The place is cozy and full of good wine and food.<br/><br/>My Emmenthal and prosciutto was amazing, sided by a simple but outstanding salad. Everything matched perfectly and the price is very reasonable.<br/><br/>Also had some coffee which wasn't remarkable, but definitely better than most you can find around the city.

A cute little French Cafe that serves you amazing coffees and break-fast items.<br/><br/>Food and coffees taste perfect, service is brilliant and this place has a overall positive ambience to it.<br/><br/>The guy behind the coffee's looks very passionate about making them and also is highly talented when it comes to making unique shapes and designs on the frothing.<br/><br/>I'm keen to come back here and try a few other items on their very interesting menu.<br/>

Coffee tasted great with bonus cute coffee art, we ordered the eggs florentine and the petit bocal version of a big breakfast. Food was great, really original little breakfast menu. <br/><br/>My only reservation was how hot the cafe was which made me a little uncomfortable, I realise this is hard to prevent and it was a hot summers morning, just if I was being picky.

Visited Petit Bocal for a casual lunch with my other half on a Wednesday. The first impression of the place was "cute." The ambience was adequate for a casual lunch or afternoon tea.<br/><br/>As we had not been to the place before we got recommendations from the waitress. We ordered sourdough tartine with home cured salmon gravlax and mushroom omelette. For drinks we got pineapple smoothie (asked for no milk) and a cappuccino. Nothing really struck out to us, not saying that anything was bad, the food was nice although the cappuccino made was sub-par (I drink a lot of coffee and have been a barista for the past 3-4 years). The barista spent too much time on etching the art in and by the time it was served I felt the froth and milk had fully segregated. It would have been better if it was just poured and served right away (I could just be a bit picky but that's how I felt).<br/><br/>Overall, if you are looking for a new (different? somewhat) cafe to try on a casual afternoon this place would not be too bad.<br/><br/>Service: 6/10<br/>Food: 6.5/10<br/>Ambience: 6/10<br/>Value for money: 7/10<br/>Overall: 6.375/10

A brilliant little French cafe that we stumbled across. It is authentic cuisine at very competitive prices. The atmosphere was very nice with photos in frames around the room and all the light fixtures in mason jars. There were croissants and baguettes on the counter giving that extra French taste.<br/>We ordered the salmon gravlax scrambled eggs and the gluten free. Both arrived in adequate time and looked amazing. We dug straight in and could not stop, hence no pictures unfortunately. The salmon gravlax was flavorsome with creme fraiche on the side and warm croissant.<br/><br/>Needless to say I will trek all the way back to Sandringham for another meal here soon.

BEST brunch I've had in a very long time. If there was a 10/5 eating these guys would get it. The baguettes were delicious and the super cute coffee tasted as great as it looked.
Romina Kolesnik
A few of us came here for dessert and it was brilliant. I ordered the creme brûlée which came out warm, it was delicious and possibly the best dessert out of the three. We had also ordered the poached pear and the pie and they were perfect. The portions were good for the price we paid and service was great and the ladies serving us were very friendly!

Authentically delicious French food, great coffee and yummy smoothies. All the staff are French which makes things even more authentic. I had the breakfast bruschetta with salmon today which was so fresh & presented beautifully and a very generous serve too. The coffee is always a treat too with the cutest art designs. I love this place

Petit bocal is a great little french cafe. All their staff were french as well!! This is probably the second best cafe in my list! <br/>I ordered the sashis egg with chorizo and my boyfriend got the sourdough tartine. Also we got an ice mocha and a passionfruit dream smoothie. The passionfruit smoothie was good but i had better but the ice mocha was delicious. It wasnt too sweet and i could taste the coffee. <br/>The food was exceptional! It was just amazing. The lentils in the sashi eggs made the dish. It was delicious juicy, it was the main flavour of the dish. The sourdough tartine was also amazing. The pesto was probably the best pesto ive ever tasted and the salad was unique but delicious.<br/>Service overall was good. And good is good. I will defitnately come back. Maybe for dinner!

I always come for breakfast to get the salmon gravlax with scrambled eggs. It is a winner everytime so I'm assuming the other food on the menu is just as delicious. The coffee is some of the best I've had in Auckland too and the creative coffee art makes them a step ahead of everyone else. 😊

A great French cafe for brunch with the cutest coffee art. I was really impressed at my mocha which looked amazing and tasted good too. It was almost too pretty to drink. <br/><br/>I had the mushrooms - all their breakfast plates come with sourdough. While the dish was meant to have oyster mushrooms too, the waitress apologised that they were out of those mushrooms and the chef more than made up for the lack of mushrooms with the generous serving of Portobello mushrooms that I got. They were creamy and balanced out with the fresh parsley and pesto. So good. A pity that the sourdough bread wasn't toasted more. The bread while fresh was hard to cut and got soggy quickly with the sauce. <br/><br/>I also tried the breakfast bruschetta which was also a big brunch. The citrus hollandaise and fresh salad balanced out the salty bacon. Personal preference that the poached egg would have been runnier and that the sourdough should have been toasted more. <br/><br/>That being said, we had excellent service and the cafe was a cosy spot to visit on a rainy day. Solid brunch with a French influence.

We just visited Petit Bocal, wanting to discover a new local coffee shop as we'd heard good things about it. It's a Wednesday afternoon and there weren't many people in so we thought service would be fairly quick (one of us had to get to work in a couple of hours). We were rather disappointed... it took our waiter a long time to come over to give us water (it was very hot in there!) and take our order. We ordered two meals, a coffee and a mango smoothie. Food and coffee were great but we thought that the smoothie had been forgotten about as it didn't turn up. Just as we were finishing our meals and thinking about leaving, our waiter brought the smoothie over and left it on the table without saying a word. As we had to dash off to get to work, we didn't have time to have the smoothie which we commented on payment. Our waiter simply said "too bad" and charged us for the full amount. We weren't necessarily expecting for the smoothie to be refunded, but an apology would have been welcomed at the very least. Very rude and disappointing, I don't think we'll be back - Okra is much friendlier!!
The One With A Nut Allergy...
My partner had wanted to take me out to a surprise restaurant as I'm always the one that likes to choose and he definitely did his homework on picking a good spot :)<br/><br/>The atmosphere reflected a touch of cafe meets Ikea meets France :) The waiters were very friendly from the start and patiently let me practise my French as I ordered. With each meal I ordered, they were able to verify which items had nuts and which didn't, and allowed some nut-free modifications to the summer salad which resulted in a very happy tummy! The summer salad truly reflected summer--watermelons, apples and proscuitto surprisingly made me want more. <br/><br/>The mains were pleasant, and the added baguette to finish the ragout of my lamb stew was like the cherry to my sundae :) Add the desserts and we were very happy diners!<br/><br/>Cant wait to go back to try more!<br/><br/>Nut-friendliness: Yes<br/>Environment: 9/10<br/>Taste: 9/10

Love this cafe so much! Been here several times. Love the food and environment here. Staff are friendly and attentive. Really nice hot chocolate. Cutest coffee design ever!

Have had a couple of delicious meals at petite bocal! Great food, good portion sizes, yummy coffee. Most recently had the breakfast bruchetta, also added a side of potato and a croissant, everything was great. Their sandwiches are also really good. Probably my new fav in Auckland, will be back!

Came here with very high expections.. Walking into the cafe didn't feel welcomed at all just felt real awkward. I mainly wanted to come here was to get their coffee with the cool designs! So I decided to get a mocha and when it arrived there was no cool design.. So I asked my friend who showed me this place and asked her if I had to ask them to make the picture on the coffee for me and she told me they just did this for her. Some people may not find this a big deal but I feel like if this something this cafe is known for they should do it for ALL of the drinks all the time not just when they feel like it. Cause I'm sure I'm not the only one who will come to this cafe and would expect to see this, but to see only some customer will the little extra effort and some don't. I'm not sure if they don't do designs on the mocha and maybe just the other coffees and if that's the case that is completely fine I will change my opinion. But my friend got the exact same drink as me (on a different day) so I find it weird. The food was just okay aswell. I was so disappointed I didn't even take proper photos.

Had a very nice experience with The Petit Bocal. Good day. Order two breakfast, scramble eggs with salmon and warm baked croissant, another was oyster and Portobello mushrooms. Lovely lovely lovely! Flavor was there, texture was there, just the presentation could be little bit better. Caffe latte was fine, cute art. Would love to try again for their other food choices
G
One of the cutest cafes that I've been to. Loved that it was a French cafe and that the staff were French. Food was good, nothing overly spectacular but the coffee - wow, the coffee art just blows me away. If you come here for nothing else, just come for beautifully made coffee. It will make your day. Promise.
Stephy_NakiGirl
Had a great night here with friends. Great service with lots of information about the menu including a nightly special which can change depending on ingredients. I had the beef bourguignon which is the best I have tried in Auckland. It was so good that I was reluctant to share - meat tender & good ingredients. Some other menu items were less successful including the soup & the fish special but this could be down to individual tastes. Will he back
Sa
Food was great with your own customised cute coffee. Staff were very friendly, only downside was the chairs which was very wobbly and uncomfortable to sit in.

I love Petit Bocal! I've been here a few times now for Sunday brunch and it's definitely one of the best cafe's in Auckland. The cafe is a bit small so you'll be lucky to get a table during busy times but it's super cute and staff are very attentive and actually French! <br/><br/>The food is amazing! Very tasty, big portions, beautiful presentation, a lot of variety to choose from and as a friend put it "breakfast worth paying for." I recommend the breakfast bruchetta - love the refreshing avocado and tomato salsa. Also can't go wrong with the eggs bene - poached eggs cooked perfectly and the gluten free bacon and poached eggs with spinach served on a potato rosti is delicious. The only downside was the tough bruchetta - needed a steak knife to cut through the thing! <br/><br/>The coffees - best Mocha's I've had. With real chocolate and the cutest coffee art! Would recommend trying this place just to see the barista at work. What a talent :) <br/>All my friends I've been here with also love it. A great little gem in Sandringham!

Perfection. Atmosphere, food, and drinks are all something to write home about. The menu has so much variety that you could have something different every time and still have a hard time deciding.
Tara Sargent
Have been dying to go and would go back in a heartbeat! So much more on the menu that I want to try. The smoothies had quite a lot of ice that hadn't been blended properly in them and the service wasn't overly friendly (typically French I suppose?) but other than that it was very tasty. Massive meals with no skimping on ingredients.
Rachel
Ordered homemade muesli with pear, yoghurt and honeycomb. A delightful cafe if you are passing the area. A little too 'frenchy' with pictures of Eiffel towers hanging on the wall..
Isaac James Railey
This is my local and is consistently good the coffee is great and served quickly. The mainly French speaking staff are usually very pleasant and make a great addition to the neighborhood.

Love this place. I must lunch here 2/4 times a week when possible and I'm always happy. Only fault is now It can be hard to get a table😂 Great staff and good coffee. Daily specials are my favourite but a baguette is always a great go too.

Was here on the weekend for a catch up brunch, and both me and my friend loved our meals! <br/><br/>Perfectly cooked, just the right amount of food, beautiful presentation. The hot chocolate even came with a cute picture! <br/><br/>One downside was that it was quite busy, so we couldn't really sit and chat, it was more like a eat and go because people are waiting kind of place. The cafe itself was really nice wuith a rustic feel, so even spending a little amount of time in it, is worth it.

I don't drink coffee but the coffees these guys make look like works of art ☕ Fun, cosy, nice little chilled spot. My crĂȘpes were perfect. They made me a cool looking hot chocolate - see pic 😂đŸ˜șđŸ˜č

Went here a couple of weeks ago , lucky we got there early as it filled up fast.. The service was great and the food was even better , the adorable pictures made by the barista on the hot chocolate were perfect! Definitely recommend

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Bright and breezy with French sass, Petite Bocal is an inviting cafe on bustling Sandringham Road. I liked the short menu and was impressed with the flavour descriptions for each of the items. <br/><br/>FOOD: I had the banh mi baguette sandwich filled with chicken and fresh veges and it was absolutely moreish. The pate gave it a beautiful flavour and moisture and complemented the dense baguette. My mum and sister enjoyed the 'special' featuring thin pieces of lamb and potato croquettes. <br/><br/>COFFEE: a tad burnt, but lovely and strong. <br/><br/>SERVICE: friendly and attentive. <br/><br/>A lovely space for a catchup. I'm keen to come back to try the dinner menu! <br/>

Soo good! I love their gluten free option! Yummy! Great little place off sandringham road. Never really noticed til now 😃 highly recommend for any time of the day. U can even have breakfast for dinner 👍
Vanessa
I've popped in for brunch a few times already and I love coming back here. They make great coffee and smoothies. I always look forward seeing what coffee designs they come up with whenever I order a flat white. Let's just say their coffee art is on point 👌. This place is always looking busy whenever I drive past, it isn't too noisy for a catch up with friends, which is great. The decor is simple and slightly rustic with the cute tables and chairs they have. The staff are friendly and I definitely recommend their omelette of the day from the breakfast menu.
Gemma
Probably my favourite cafe..the baguettes are so fresh and filling and come with a huge salad (maybe too much?) my favourite is probably prosciutto. The croque Monsieur is so good too but also huge esp with chips as well. But the best thing has got to be the coffees that are made by this one barista and he puts animal faces in all of them, each time a different one. I've even had shrek.
Tamarikima
Great atmosphere.<br/><br/>Good to go when you want to eat something nice that are reasonable price.<br/><br/>Awesome food with great range of drinks.<br/><br/>Customer service is great as well.

My friend gave this place 1 star but tbh I think she was a bit harsh (hey Dori!). Yeah, everything is cutesy as hell, the light fittings are mason jars, baguettes come wrapped in string and the coffee comes with stupid 'latte art' drawings that make me want to pull my eyeballs out... but they serve decent food, it's not outrageously priced, and if you go during the week it's not too crowded (avoid at weekends). All the staff are french and attractive and I've had good service the times I've been. Decor is simple but comfortable. Bottom line: If you like instagramming your food, this is the place to come. <br/>

I'd heard good things about this place and decided to pop in for brunch in the weekend. The decor inside is very nice and definitely Pinterest worthy. It was relatively busy, which was a good sign. <br/><br/>We ordered drinks first, a chai latte and flat white. They both came out quickly and had the most adorable coffee art on top! We got a frog and a teddy, too cute. For food, I was craving muesli, so we got that and the eggs florentine. The muesli was a huge portion and came with yoghurt, honey and a fancy chopped up apple; it was delicious, probably one of my favourite cafe mueslis to date. The eggs were good as well, perfectly runny and the pesto sauce was divine. <br/><br/>Overall, this place is definitely on my new favourites list and I highly recommend to all! :)<br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds  #challenge

If there is one thing I love about living in Mt Eden, it's being close to Petit Bocal.<br/><br/>This has been my favourite weekend spot for quite some time now as they are just so consistently great; the service is good, the coffees are great (and often entertaining), and the food is excellent. With a choice of indoor or outdoor seating and simple but cute decor, Petit Bocal is the perfect place year round to enjoy a catch up over coffee, brunch in the sun, or an afternoon pick-me-up.<br/><br/>Although my partner and I had a few hiccups at the start with staff getting the order wrong, they have always been very quick and gracious in fixing any mistakes.<br/>After a brief hiatus, we went for lunch yesterday and ordered eggs benedict with bacon for him, scrambled eggs with a side of bacon and potato gratin for me, as well as our usual coffees. The service was quick and friendly, the coffees were exceptionally cute and the food was once again delicious. The eggs were creamy and smooth, the bacon was crispy, and I am told many times that the hollandaise sauce is to die for.<br/><br/>if you haven't been there yet, take the opportunity next weekend and take part in the #Challenge!

Went here for breakfast due to the good reviews. Unfortunately we r very disappointed. We had a good start though with the quirky coffee design and the nice cocoloco smoothie.<br/><br/>We waited quite long for the meals. Very high anticipation due to the reviews. But when it arrived i was surprised to find the sardines r canned cold sardines. Why did it take that long to make that? My soft boiled egg was NOT soft boiled. I cant eat it as soldiers as described in the menu. The egg is way overcooked.<br/><br/>The bruschetta is nothing to write home about. There is avocado stem pip in there that they forgot to remove.
House Of Eats
Authentic French food! Bagels and hotcakes are amazing!!!!! This place opens up at the crack of dawn 6am - for all you early risers. The coffee is amazing, just look how cute my kitty is. Must try for breaky!
Kwan-Lyn
This is such a cute place! Coffee was made to perfection with fun coffee art. Had scrambled eggs with salmon, accompanied with a croissant which was delicious. Enjoyed the croissant so much I decided to get the chocolate one to takeaway. Would love to visit this place again!

Went there with my family in the weekend. After repeatedly asking the waitress for our coffee, it finally came 35 minutes later, and waited 55 minutes for the food to come. <br/>The food there is nothing special and a little bit pricey. There were an upside , the smoothies there is actually quite nice, but it could really do with a longer drinking straw to match with the tall bottle that they use to serve the drinks.<br/><br/>
Anna
Firstly the coffee art is amazing and I appreciate the effort that the barista puts into it. The atmosphere is delightful and the food is delicious. The staff are very welcoming an friendly and this is definitely one of my favorite places to go!
Vitale Eti
We went on a late Fri arvo, between lunch and dinner, therefore we just ordered our usual trim flat whites, some thick cut Rosemary salted fries w. the their home made creamy aioli (very nice) and their selection of olives. All very tasty and we even had some excellent Shrek art on our Fw's.<br/><br/>Petit Bocal is hip and groovy, it's small, yet surprisingly spacious once you're inside and we were lucky enough to get the bay window seat. The staff are friendly and really helpful. My wife was enthralled by their counter space and tiling, as she is with every place we visit, so she was happy taking stock of even more ideas for our future kitchen reno's.<br/><br/>

Really love this place! Have been here a couple of times in the evening and have ordered the fromage salad both times - it is just so good! There is such a generous amount of goats cheese I never manage to finish it all. In terms of brunch the breakfast bruschetta is really tasty and so is the eggs florentine - I really like the citrus hollandaise they use, it's nice a light and doesn't leave you feeling stodgy! The coffee is always good and the place has a really nice vibe. The service can be a little slow sometimes but it's definitely forgiven as they always get it right (I'd rather they confirmed my order with me) and the staff all have a lovely French charm :)
Hannah K
Love the food and coffee here, nice surprise with the coffee art and the breakfast I ordered was so delicious (eggs benedict with salsa), very friendly staff too
SnobNom
DO YOU EVEN COFFEE?<br/><br/>This place is around the corner from where I live and is always full.<br/>Saw the photos of some cool coffee art and came in a for a lazy Sunday Coffee <br/>and I have to say it tasted watered down, had no depth and had bitter burnt flavour.<br/><br/>Consistency is important but my rating at the moment will be based solely on the bad coffee currently. Will check out this place again and come in for a brunch and update the review at a later point.
Amy @ My Dining Journey
In the suburb of Sandringham comes French eatery Petit Bocal. Decorated with fresh flowers, black and white French themed prints on the walls and the wood grain table tops, this classic cafe with free hanging lights from the ceiling is a quintessential eatery on Sandringham Road.<br/><br/>One of their must-try dish recommended by Metro is the marinated sardine. The pairing of an oily fish with lemon is a neat way to cut through the fattiness. This dish is paired with a semi-boiled egg with French baguette soldiers. The buttery and naturally salty yolk makes an excellent dipping sauce.<br/><br/>The salmon scrambled eggs is a delight. The salmon, cured with salt, sugar and dill is not excessively fishy and the freshly baked croissant is the cherry on top. I hardly touched the Crùme fraiche with chives as the flavours of the eggs and croissant.<br/><br/>Very pleased with my brunch at Petit Bocal. I would come back just for the croissant alone. Coffee art is adorable and you can’t go wrong with Coffee Supreme.
Inez Olecki
Absolutely thoughtful, friendly and happy staff - fantastic service! Delicious Supreme coffee, amazing pastries and muffins. It may be a small little place, but the ambiance of the Paris black & white photos, music and light decoration make it a delightful place to dine.
Kiwi Foodie
Ah, Petit Bocal! It has been a while since I have last raved so enthusiastically about an eatery. We last visited over two weeks ago, but I have been putting off writing this review because I knew I would not be able to return to it for another meal during the Christmas and New Year's break, and didn't want to trigger an unfulfillable craving. The dilemmas that us foodies must go through... :)<br/><br/>This cafe is situated in a tiny shop on Sandringham Rd - but boy, do they make the best of that small space. The decor is grunge chic, reminiscent of that of Teed St Larder or Little King Cafe. A large wooden table spans the middle, and smaller tables are packed closely (some might say too closely, but we didn't mind) by the sides.<br/><br/>Their food - cafe cuisine with a French twist, is amazing. I had the salmon gravlax scrambled eggs with crĂšme fraĂźche, chives and croissant ($15) - the picture might not look like much, but it is divine. The croissant is warm, buttery, and tastes freshly-made, while the scrambled eggs have a lovely fluffy texture. The SO's breakfast bruschetta ($18) came with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, olives, and prosciutto. It looked great, and tasted even better, as the ingredients go together marvelously.<br/><br/>The portions are admittedly a tad small compared to the average cafe, but that does leave more room for dessert. :)
Doug Funnie
I'm here right now and I want to die. Everything is in Mason jars. Even the light fixtures are Mason jars. The coffee taste like poopoo and they were too busy making cutesy latte art to focus on the actual coffee. Get the hell out. Really slow service too. I got the eggs florentine and The eggs were like 30 seconds under done, gross pesto on the mushrooms, super gross bread, and I got a black pudding which wasn't bound enough. My friend got a bruschetta but it was NOT bruschetta, the bread was not toasted and they didn't rub garlic on the bread and they cut tomatoes ugly and uncaringly dumped the ugly tomatoes on the yuck bread. Please if you like food and respect your mouth do not go here EVER <br/>
Jo Y
Compared to our prior visits for breakfast, it appears to have gone downhill. Food was ok, nothing wrong with it, nothing exciting. Service was quite unfriendly. This visit was October 2014. Would not return. Better places out there.
Courtney @ A Food Awakening
Petit Bocal has to be one of my favourite cafes at the moment. With its french inspired menu, it showcases items such as croque monsieur and sourdough tar tines<br/><br/>I think I have come here 3 times now for lunch. Once ordering the Croque Monsieur, the Pulled Chicken Sour dough Tartine and the Salmon Gravlax Sour dough Tartine. With the sour dough tartines ranging from $16-20, its very good value for size and is really up there for flavour. The food is delicious. From the pics of my food you can see the thought that goes into the presentation..."You eat with your eyes". <br/>The food and service is efficient, and I would recommend this cafe anytime. I believe the cafe is open for dinner, which one of my foodie friends has said the platters are average. However for breakfast and lunch its delicious and affordable. <br/><br/>The decor follows todays trends with small wooden tables, and hanging lights. The place is ideal for most diners as there are a range of table options e.g couch seats, sharing tables and 2-4man tables; all of which are comfortable. <br/><br/>P.S you know a place is always good when they can serve really yummy hot chips!<br/><br/>Rating<br/>Food: 8.5/10<br/>Service: 7/10<br/>Value for Money: Very Good

Best cafe in town. Perfect coffee and best Madame croquer. The baguettes are awesome and we managed to fit the cinnamon brioche. It's my regular spot for brunch, sometimes service is a bit slow particularly when the staff is attached to their phones, otherwise a great place. Still coming back.

A friend and I decided to have brunch here after coming across some buzz about it on social media. I can't remember what my friend ordered (the breakfast bruschetta?) but I remember ordering Shashi's eggs, which was meant to be a "spicy" casserole-type dish made with lentils and free range eggs. I also ordered a latte. My friend was pleased with her order and the coffee was fine, but the dish I ordered was bland. Also, despite being described as "spicy" on the menu, it had no heat whatsoever. For these reasons, I couldn't finish my meal. <br/>What was worse, though, was the strange vibe coming from the staff at this place... While they were polite enough, I got the feeling that my friend and I weren't really welcome there. At one point, I caught one of the guys behind the counter (I'm unsure whether he was a waiter or the manager) glaring at me... I was just innocently eating my food; not doing anything wrong! We were quiet and polite to the staff, so I couldn't understand the cold reception. In an earlier review, a customer wonders whether their race might explain the poor service they received. I, too, couldn't help but notice that my friend and I were the only two people of colour in the busy cafe... However, it's impossible for me to prove whether discrimination had anything to do with it. All I can say is that, due to the service, I won't be returning to this place anytime soon.

We have only eaten here for dinner (albeit on a number of occasions), so cannot comment on the breakfast/lunch offerings. Dinner, however, is very good.<br/><br/>The small mealtime selection is of the classic French bistro variety (which I love). Staples like steak frites, cassoulet and boeuf bourguignon appear regularly on the menu. The platters are also commendable and the beer/wine selection is adequate. <br/><br/>Sometimes those famous Gallic dishes are served with a bit too much of that infamous Gallic aloofness, but I guess this only makes for one of the more authentic French experiences you will get outside of Paris.

I like Sardines, even for breakfast, made better as they came with a perfectly cooked egg. <br/><br/>The service was great and the coffee was an ideal morning wake up. <br/><br/>Keen to head back again to try other items on the menu in the future.<br/><br/>Well worth hunting this place out.

Our regular weekend lunch venue over the past few months, often with friends. Great food and exceptionally good coffee. Gets very hot and very noisy inside. Service good - until yesterday. We sat inside and were ignored, despite casting glances in the direction of the staff at the counter area. They were not busy. We had been seated for a few minutes when the vacant table next to us was occupied. Within seconds a male waiter appeared and gave them menus and water, while we continued to be ignored. We left. We shall not return.

The "gorgeous gals" arrived for lunch and plenty of room for the 7 of us....we were made welcome and menus were passed around and after many mouth watering choices our lunch was ordered ....there was a couple of mistakes with one coffee but once we got through that the food arrived and it was very lovely and fresh and tasty.<br/>However when it came to dessert we had slow service a very long wait...... yet well worth it - the chocolate pudding with caramel delicious ... and the creme brulee - tres bon .... an excellent lunch hopefully it will be better service next time.

Simply the best coffee and service in Auckland. Their cinnamon brioche is amazing and their sardines on toast delicious!! The best café in Auckland by a long shot and one I thoroughly recommend to everyone. If you want breakfast in the weekend you have to get there early though as it fills up fast :-)

Popped in before an exam for some breakfast and coffee. One of the best cups of coffee I've ever had and I'm a fiend! Service was excellent and very friendly. Definitely going there again! Well done :)

Popped in this afternoon for coffee with my friend. Fantastic interior, and the staff were lovely, polite and a credit to the cafe. Coffee was superb! Some of the best coffee I've had. Ill be heading back and will eat next time as the meals I saw other customers with looked great

Another great feather in the cap for the Sandringham/Kingsland area. The coffee is great and as well as offering the staple breakfast options, they have some cool interesting additions that set them apart. I've visited a few times now and the staff are always lovely and approachable.

I work at Eden Park and have been to this place about half a dozen times. It's light and bright and the staff are pleasant enough without being over bearing. I have had the sardines, a couple of different sandwiches and a couple of different soups. The sardines and sandwiches were very good (the bread they serve is always exceptional) and the soup top class.<br/><br/>I haven't been as impressed by the coffee as I have by the food. It hasn't been terrible (just a little burnt) but everything else is so good the expectation is the coffee will be too. Not enough to put me off though, i will keep going back for the food anyway and hopefully the coffee will improve. :) Great to have in the neighbourhood.

Great Eggs Florentine! I've had it twice now and it was perfect both times - delicate, lemony sauce, just enough and not slathered. Coffee's been good too, and so was the soup I had another day. Keen to try hot dinner now it's available!

As much as I can admire the creativity of any place that can 'top' supermarket carton custard with burnt sugar and call it Creme Brulee, I abhor the arrogance, cheating and complete disregard for customers.<br/>Get a grip and yes I'll tell 10 of my friends not to bother.

Just popped in for a takeaway coffee this time around. Wanted to check out the place, and as they served Supreme coffee, was hoping to turn it into our new local.<br/>Coffee was a bit slow (almost 10 minutes) and was unfortunately just above luke warm. Didn't have the lovely smooth flavour I've grown to love from Supreme. Unpleasant bitter after taste, which comes from the coffee maker not the coffee. We had already driven away when we realised, so would have been annoying to go back.<br/>The service was friendly, and the food that walked past us while we waited looked amazing, so may visit again. Was going to make this my new daily coffee stop, but will stick to a place that I know makes good coffee 100% of the time. Sorry guys!

Great menu. The eggs were fresh and delicious. Loved the different menu options to the every day fare. Good coffee although we asked for large and got a small and service fab.

Very disappointed in dinner last night. 7 people, couldn't read the menu (even with glasses on the writing was too small!), so decided to order 1 of each of the plates to share. We were presented with 7 plates, all cold food, and all a mixture of salad greens, a cheese, a pate or pate style serving of duck/goose or whatever, and some sliced bread. The only hot food was the chips (which were lovely). But seriously, this is dinner folks. Not antipasto at lunch time, and definitely not x 7 more or less the same! I'm sure it's lovely for breakfast or lunch, but don't go there if you want a hot, hearty dinner! (Of which I've had many fantastic French ones in the past!). Was expensive for what we got too, sorry!

nice breakfast and coffee and service was friendly too. the chocolate muffin we took home didn't last long! delish!<br/>went back for dinner, there was only shared plates so we had two between two, it was lovely and we appreciated the extra bread they offer. yummo, will return!

Wow... Gorgeous simple food, fantastic ambiance and lovely staff.<br/>New fave for sure.<br/>Absolutely in live with the decor, hats off to the owners for creating such a modern crisp clean look.<br/>No wonder it was hard to get a table for lunch on a Sunday!

I had such high hopes before going to Petite Bocal, maybe that's why I was so disappointed when everything was just OK. There wasn't anything really wrong with the food or coffee, it average and not very exciting. I ordered the salmon gravlax and cream cheese bagel which didn't have enough cream cheese or salmon for my liking (or the price). I had recently had Al's Deli's "the Saint" bagel and Petite Bocal's pales in comparison. I also had the sweet french crĂšpes with canadian maple syrup which was "meh, OK" and again I think over priced. I've definitely had better crepes, this one tasted like it had been made from the instant pancake batter out of a box. <br/><br/>The cafe itself is lovely with great ambiance and a relaxed vibe. Maybe I just ordered the wrong things?

Some friends and I met here for brunch, it was recommended as one of the group had been there in the evening for a drink once before. Apparently at night it is quite cute for drinks/dinner and makes the transition from day time cafe to night time bar/eatery well.<br/><br/>Anyway when I first arrived I was impressed, the tables were nicely set out and the waitress was very helpful sorting us out a table big enough for 5. I loved Terrariums on the table, unfortunately I didn't get a photo of them, but they were very cute. Our waitress was French, which always adds a bit of authenticity!<br/><br/>I had the Gluten free breakfast, which is bacon, eggs, spinach with Hollandaise sauce on a potato has brown ($18), still on my clean eating plan I swapped the potato for mushrooms, no problem!<br/><br/>Some of my friends had the Gluten free breakfast as well and the others had the fruit salad with passionfruit mascarpone ($12) and the breakfast bruschetta ($18).<br/><br/>All the food came out really well presented, and looked amazing.<br/>Mine was delicious, a perfect balance for a morning breakfast, in fact the general consensus was mmmmmmm.<br/><br/>Will definitely revisit Petit Bocal
Two Honest Truths
To drink we had the Super juice in berry and tropical ($6 each). This was just bottled juice but fine on a hot summer’s day. We would’ve liked to see some smoothies on the menu too since it was too hot for tea and we’re not coffee or chocolate fans.<br/><br/>Eggs benedict ($17 with bacon) - The hollandaise sauce we found a lot more lemony than your typical, which works for me. On the other hand the bread was a lot more tougher than I anticipated. It was difficult to cut, I ended up just picking it up and eating it with my hands.<br/><br/>Croque Madame ($16 + $5 fries) - delicious. The classic French toastie with ham and cheese can come with an egg on top (Madame) or not (Monsieur). Although the egg was cooked just right the bread fell soggy after the dish went back to the kitchen because they forgot the egg on the first go.<br/><br/>We thought the portions were large and the prices reasonable. They’re also open 7am – 10pm which is a definite bonus. Inside, the French restaurant has fresh white walls and hanging lightbulbs. The wooden tables are decorated with flowers, and there are black and white photographs hanging ranging from the great Eiffel Tower to a cute kid holding a baguette.<br/><br/>For the full review and more photos visit: http://twohonesttruths.com/2014/01/03/petit-bocal/

It sounds strange but yes, there is un tranche (a slice) of French paradise on Sandringham Road. And it is so oo-la-la chic, it’s enough to turn anyone into a Francophile. Better still, Petit Bocal (Little Jar) is opened seven days from 7am until 10pm, serving breakfast (croissants and crepes), lunch (salads, Croque Monsieurs and baguettes) and dinner (platters of terrines, cheeses and fruit). <br/><br/>The room is an oasis of calm, with muted timbers and delightful fresh flowers that adorn each table; there were soft green lisianthus and agapanthus when we visited. <br/><br/>The options on the extensive lunch menu seemed light; baguette sandwiches, salads or sourdough tartines (open-face sandwiches), but you needn’t worry; they all sounded delicious and just right for a midday meal. To make decision making even more difficult, the breakfast menu is also available at lunch. <br/> <br/>I had the pork terrine salad, which came with two slices of terrine nestled atop lightly seasoned greens, with crunchy green beans, cornichons and a hard-boiled egg. The terrine was studded with pistachios and was perfectly seasoned. <br/><br/>There is a range of sourdough tartines (open-faced sandwiches). Donald had the salmon which comes with a generous home cured salmon gravlax with dill mayonnaise, red onion and capers. <br/><br/>The fromage de cherve (goats cheese) salad comes with a warm goats cheese toastie atop a green salad with pear, toasted walnuts tossed in red wine vinaigrette. <br/><br/>Yvonne had the Petit Bocal smart interpretation of creamed mushroom on toast from the breakfast menu. Oyster and Portobello mushroom with fresh garden herbs and just a touch of cream on sourdough toast. <br/><br/>Jackie chose the breakfast bruschetta which came with diced tomato, avocado, red onion and basil with crispy bacon, poached eggs and citrus hollandaise on top the ubiquitous sourdough toast. <br/><br/>I’ve come back to enjoy some of the platters for dinner, and they were fresh tasting, perfectly balanced flavours and beautifully presented on slates. Delicious cheeses were complemented with the sweetest roast walnuts, pate, honeycomb, figs and served with warm baguette slices. <br/><br/>Petit Bocal is my kind of restaurant, simple and delicious food, in a beautiful relaxed setting. They don’t take bookings except for large groups. <br/><br/>http://easyfoodhacks.blogspot.in/2013/05/petit-bocal-sandringham-auckland.html#more
