Review Oko - Auckland Central

Such a nice and vibey cafe. It opens late till 9pm. It's nice having a late night cafe around. The deserts were nice too! They even had books for people to read ๐Ÿ“š one thing to note is that the kitchen closes relatively quickly, at around 6.30? The cage opens at 5 and closes at 9 so I would assume the kitchen would close at 7.30 ish? But otherwise I recommend to come here for a light catch up:)) I went to the New Market store

I have been to a few dessert places in the past already. I think the waffles here are the best of them all. We had the berry and the s'more waffles. The waffles are crispy and the s'more that I had was fluffy and was really good. However I think their drinks are below average compare to other places like house of chocolate. I had the 70% dark chocolate but it just doesnt feel right. The gimmicky aspect was nice but I think it is lacking in flavour. My partner's ice cream mocha was better but just average. Overall will try other waffles flavour but probably opt for just a plain coffee instead.

Stipped by the new store on Carlton Core Road in Gilli Cafe. They have a nice selection of different sweet treats. Their plated desserts are only available after 1800. We grabbed some quick treats before they closed. The dining area was quite large and fairly nice.

Must try their waffles!!๐Ÿ‘Œ๐ŸผJust donโ€™t overdo it by ordering everything chocolate, it will be unfortunately too much, especially if you are having all to yourself instead of sharing ๐Ÿคช. Also, who said Cookies and Cream cake has to be only for kids these days... I have fallen in love with it again after trying it at Oko - it has the creaminess, the crunch and is ultra-moist. Why choose between cookies and cake when you can enjoy BOTH together??!! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

That chocolate loaded Belgian waffle was amazing and soooo sweet aka perfect. Got some reasonably priced wine to go with it and sit outside. Would go back. EDIT: we finally did go back ๐Ÿ˜„. Amazing ice cream cones and even Bailey's cocktails this time!
Julia
Nice cafe with well presented mini cake options and other desserts. It would be a good treat on a special occasion. Coffee was pretty good too. Nicely decorated and lots of tables inside.
Maggie Chen
Sensational dessert, ice cream everyone loves. Right inside the spacious, locals favourite cafe-Gilli. Open till late night.

Visually creative desserts. Blueberry cheesecake tart - I was hoping to taste cheese or blueberry but neither was forthcoming. Loved the interior however I didn't like that it opened into the entertainment center at the rear of the restaurant.
Claudia Vaya
A Simply delightful place and just utterly delicious selections of desserts. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Desserts were mouth-watering and thereโ€™s really nothing to criticise. Will be coming back for more!

Beautiful place and lovely dessert. Looked child friendly as there were a lot of toys for kids of all age..
Gleb Heinke
Amazing waffles, fast service! All waffles come with toppings, sauce, ice cream and an amazing cream that they make there. You won't be disappointed no matter what kind of waffle you pick, they choose ingredients that go so well together. We go there every month or so. Favourite place for dessert.

Really great kid-friendly cafe! We came for some dessert after dinner and had the chocolate lover's waffle and the hazelnut smores waffle. Both were great! Will definitely be going back to try a few different things. The kids play area was very cute and keep my little ones entertained.
Rourke Gray-Mason
Got the chocolate lovers Belgian waffle which was delicious. Heads up though it's super rich and doesn't have anything to balance out the sweetness like the other flavours do. But if you love chocolate then this is a must try.
Jann Leano
My favourite match dessert Coffee Americano with Lemon lime kiss mini cake is a delight. Staff were friendly and cafe location is great to relax!
Marielle Ibarra
Love this place for desserts! The waffles are delicious and great to share, but I suppose it could be too sweet for some? I enjoyed it very much though.
Adrianna
Love the variety of cute desserts they have this place. Plus drinks and ice cream. Short distance away from the cinema so always a good place to hang out at after the movies. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Love their cakes! Great location too. The yuzu tea is delicious and I often gift their cakes
Rex Chen
This place offers a range of delicate mini cakes, kids love their sorbet and ice cream, the chocolate lava waffle is my personal favorite, always busy when we visit.
Larissa Iulio
Waffles were cold and hard. Toppings and ice cream however were beautiful. Flavours did not mix well.
Up there with one of the best dessert places i have been. Love the Belgium waffles and ice cream options. There are a few other dessert options as well.

From $17.5 to now only $15, this deal is defs something you donโ€™t wanna miss ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

โ€ข ๐˜ผ๐™ข๐™—๐™ž๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™š: Suitable for a date night or a catch up with your besties, though keep in mind it might be a bit difficult if you have big groups of friends since the place is quite small with only a few tables inside. They also have tables outside (+ outdoor heaters) if youโ€™re into that, but I get cold at 30C so Iโ€™m just gonna stick with indoors tyvm ๐Ÿ˜‚.

โ€ข ๐™๐™–๐™จ๐™ฉ๐™š:
The ๐‘ช๐’‰๐’๐’„๐’๐’๐’‚๐’•๐’† ๐‘ณ๐’๐’—๐’†๐’“ ๐Ÿซ is a classic alright, if you havenโ€™t tried it yet what are you even doing?? This is truly what dessert dreams are made of.

Now letโ€™s talk about the new ๐‘ฉ๐’–๐’ƒ๐’ƒ๐’๐’† ๐‘ป๐’†๐’‚ waffles! The white globs of salted cheese foams - idk what they are but they taste like milk powder and Iโ€™m a sucker for that?? Iโ€™ll be honest the brown sugar tapioca pearls are more jelly-like & not as chewy as the real deal. The combination of waffles, Caramelita ice cream, whipped cream, & milk tea sauce was a bit too sweet for me to devour all by myself (I did overestimate my ability so thatโ€™s on me LOL) but I can definitely see myself sharing this next time with a friend ๐Ÿ˜‹

โ€ข ๐™Ž๐™š๐™ง๐™ซ๐™ž๐™˜๐™š: Prompt service & friendly staff. Been here a few times, mostly enjoyed my visits. The last time I went, I tried out the contactless dining on Zomato app and it didn't go well - we had to wait 30 minutes only to realise that our order had not gone through. Went to the counter to ask about the order and they said 'we didn't get the payment, you need to pay again' when I clearly had paid for it on Zomato. It seemed like only one of the staff knew about the whole 'contactless dining' thing. Afterall, everything turned out ok (I didn't have to pay twice and got the desserts and they were good) but wouldn't recommend using contactless dining!
Ramona Zhang
Loved the passionfruit yoghurt and bubble tea waffle, the feijoa one was a bit bland. Nice dessert place for after dinner
Bella Qian
A classic go to dessert place in the cbd. They have a awesome range of desserts to satisfy any sweet tooth. Personal favourite is their volcano.
Daisy
Used zomato gold here but realised later that they overcharged us. I contacted their facebook page but they ignored me. So... not a professional service I wouldโ€™ve liked! So disappointed
G1k
Their waffles with ice-cream is delicious and nicely presented, they also have a range of well made cabinet slices/cakes/chocolate/icecream. I also like that they sell alcohol as well unlike other dessert places in town. They have a covered outdoor area as well as tables inside.
I've experienced only a couple of times service is slightly slow even during quiet time of the day with not too many customers. However its a brilliant place to go for dessert either alone with a book or a group, or even to pick up a treat to go.
Kevin Chen
Awesome desert we had at oko. One of those cool spots to hang out with your mates in a lazy Auckland avro
Alvinliucareer
A quite nice place to enjoy deserts with friends!
Lu Luna
Have visit Oko more than 3 times and tried about 6 of their cabinet cake selection. Would definitely recommend them to others. Some of them are quite sweet while some is not, so best to ask the staff what you prefer. Will go back to try more stuff as the menu is very deep.

Probably the best waffle in town and very unique range of mousse cake wish the outdoor is bit more comfy
Renie
The smell of the waffles MAKES you order them. The variety of desserts and quality of the waffles are amazing. A go to for the waffle craving! There aren't too many seats but always one to sit and staff are friendly :)

Everything is nice with a warm service too

Have been here a few times tried almost every single of their cabinet cakes. The strawberry blush and oko are definitely a must try. Also if you have a friend to share with, it is a no brained to order a waffle. Omg the best waffle I have ever eaten in my life
Yutianchi1994
Very nice staff, food is worth the price, Maybe the best waffle I've ever had. Overall very recommended.
Nadia Mae De Jesus
The waffle menu is the best. I go here often just to eat waffles, as they are served beautifully.
They have cute mini cakes that I have yet to try.
Friendly staff too and good location.
Weiming Tang
The dessert here are tasty with beautiful presentation, warm service. The dessert is suitable to take a picture. But it is a bit pricey. It is happy for me to come here and have dessert in casual.

I often come here just to grab a scoop or two of the Movenpick icecream when I'm in town. I also tried their Chocolate Lover Belgian Waffle and the Strawberry Icecream Sundae and loved them! They weren't so cheap but they are really worth it! :)
Lynn Le
Delicious and crunchy waffles served with rich and creamy chocolate sauce.
Great place for dessert in town and they open till late.
Emma
We ordered the chocolate belgian waffles to share between two and they were honestly amazing. The slightly caramelised banana under a mountain of chocolate flakes with a soft yet crispy waffle combo was fantastic. It's definitely pricey at ~$18 ish but worth it for a treat once in a while. Definitely want to come back to try some of the other flavours.
Evaline Shandil
A new favourite dessert spot.
Love their variety of cabinet cakes. We ordered the strawberry berry cheesecake, chocolate lover waffles & iced chocolate. Everything was divine. Staff were very friendly as well

Staff 10/10
Environment 9/10
Food 9.5/10

Big fan on OKO, havenโ€™t been in a while but decided to pay visit yesterday after my graduation.

There was plenty of seating outside with heaters which was great as I needed to seat a few people and the weather was quite cold.

The selection at OKO is very unique and delicious. Yesterday I ordered a chocolate pastry and a hazelnut hot chocolate. Both delicious, rich and flavourful. Great spot to grab a dessert!
XED ๐Ÿ˜
OKO is definitely one of the best dessert spots in Auckland. What impressed me the most are the outstanding staff service, amazing food choices, and the relaxing ambiance.

As chocolate is my weakness, I had the Chocolate lovers waffle and hazelnut hot chocolate - oh, heavenly goodness! The waffle was passionately prepared by the chef in front of us and the hazelnut hot chocolate came as โ€œmix-it-yourselfโ€, which I find entertaining and enjoyable.

I would also recommend their mini cakes ๐Ÿง, croissants ๐Ÿฅ , and Movenpick ice cream on their homemade waffle cones ๐Ÿฆ.

OKO is 10/10. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

OKO serves a great variety of cabinet desserts from moveinpick ice cream to those beautiful small cakes. And also I tried every flavour of their waffles and maple banana was my fav. They change their waffle flavours periodically tho. You really should give a try of their waffles. Theyโ€™re legit.
Great customer service and beautiful desserts.
Highly recommend.

Desert was amazinnnng! Never disappoints. If your willing to spend $17.50 on a waffle, it wonโ€™t disappoint! Got the chocolate waffle, served with bananas, cream and chocolate sauce!!! Arrived at around 10.30. Just not enough seats! Otherwise, lovely desert!
Teresa Lee
OKO Dessert Kitchen is a great place to visit when you want a dessert treat as well as some Movenpick ice cream. I love the cappucino flavour ice cream in particular.
Sophie Wilton
Really enjoyed my experience here! The peanut butter smores cake was SO GOOD. It had enough peanut butteryness without being too much, and the berries at the bottom layer of the cake were a nice surprise and kept it extra moist. Definitely will come back!
Asianfoodie
Had the chocolate waffle with mango juice. Both were tasty and I enjoyed every bite!!

Would love to try the chef's special next time and other ice cream flavours.

A little desert place on Queen street. The cakes don't have too many selections but their tast are quite nice. In fact, i prefer their cakes to other desert place in auckland because they know how to balance the sweet and sour taste very well. Nothing much to talk about ambience and interior design. Perhaps this is the things that need improved by the owner. However, if you still looking for a desert place with some not-too-sweet cakes, give this place a try. You will never regret!
Pj Kemp
Waffles were amazinggggggg. Staff were friendly and it was fast service. Will definitely return. Parking is a really big hassle though. Definitely figure out where to park before going.

Got the macadamia and mango dessert. Taste was decent although didn't enjoy the gelatine exterior too much. Dessert here is okay and would probably give this place a second shot but definitely prefer the likes of other dessert places like Miann.

First time at this place and fell in love with it! Great service and customer service. Would definitely come back! Highly recommend this place to everyone ๐Ÿ‘Œ

Every visit to OKO the quality has been consistent. Always a nice place to drop by after dinner for some delicious dessert that never fails. Have tried quite a few things off the menu now and canโ€™t say I have any complaints.

The only issue is clearing of dishes from vacated tables. More often than not, we need to request someone over to clear it otherwise itโ€™ll just be left there.
Emily
Great location and known their desserts!
We shared 3 between 2 and I must say, the presentation of the desserts are very nice!!

We ordered the strawberry short cake, tiramisu and macadamia dulce

My friend enjoyed it but couldnt finish his. I thought the flavours were nice, however one thing all 3 desserts had in common was how sweet they were! It wasnt "rich" but just very sweet, almost overpowering with sugar. This is coming from someone who eats a whole block of chocolate or jar of nutella in 1 sitting.

The texture was very nice and smooth but I personally did not enjoy the desserts as much As I hoped.

Will probably be back if it's the most convenient but wouldnt go out of my way for it.
Come to the shop and greeting by the big teddy bear.. went here looking for a cake for Denny Setiawan birthday, have so many options for cute cake, but my decision go with the salted caramel chocolate tart.. itโ€™s delicious and taste really great, definitely i need the second tart ๐Ÿ˜†

Great place for dessert before or after movie or after dinner if you park nearby. Good for dates and catch up. Desserts are nice, but environment and location better.

Service: 4/5
Environment: 4/5
Presentation: 4/5
Food Quality: 3/5
Food Quantity: 3/5

Come here for the waffles. Never fails to please though itโ€™s quite substantial so make sure you have room to consume. Friendly staff and fast service. Will visit again for sure

Nice and yummy dessert shop at cbd. Events cinema just upstairs so i always come here before movies start. It's the best place to chill while waiting movies. Staffs are nice and friendly.
Angelique Cagara
Staff were great and they have a wide range of desserts. Drinks came first and desserts came about 10 mins after, so not too long of a wait. A bit on the pricier side - but if you're down for a delish high quality hot choc or an ice cream/waffle platter, OKO is the place to go.
Nae Nae
Staff are really nice and it's a great environment. To be honest its quite pricey for the amount you get, but of course delicious. Won't be going back though
Jacynda Darmawan
This place has amazing waffles! Freshly made, crunchy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside. Topped with caramelized banana and chocolate shavings. Goes really well with vanilla based ice cream to compliment the decadent chocolate.

My other favorite is the banoffee pie! A must-try.

They do great dessert cocktails too.
Food2belly
First ever expresso martini (9/10), I'm not a coffee drinker but the mix with movenpick vanilla ice cream is yum! A great excuse to have coffee after dinner, cause anything with ice cream is technically dessert, right? ๐Ÿค”
The salted caramel muffin (7/10) was alright, a bit dense for my liking.

Youโ€™d want to try everything when you come here. The desserts are just sooo pretty to look at and it taste nice too. Waffles seem to be quite popular here and they use Movenpick ice cream. Their hot choc is quite thick and creamy. Great place to hang out with friends after movies, late night or for those special date.
Joy Eats
Great place, service was okay. The interior and outdoor seating was nice. The dessert was really delicious but a tad on the expensive side. Serving size wasnโ€™t big either. Loads to pick from the menu.

I came here with my partner and son. We ordered a cherry vanilla soda, tirimasu, 2 scoop Sundae and the strawberry waffles. Amazing food. Beautifully presented, a couple of the other tables had food we wish we got just by looking at it!

The ice cream was beautiful, and the waffles not too sweet which was great. Tirimasu was lovely and the cherry vanilla soda actually tasted liked real cherries!

Everything was amazing!! Given 4 stars only as $50 for our dessert. Quite expensive, though you certainly get what you have paid for.

We were looking for an ice cream place around Sky World Entertainment Centre and was happy to discover OKO is serving Movenpick ice cream. We ordered Swiss Chocolate, Blueberry Cheesecake, Coconut Matcha Green Tea ice cream and the milk chocolate croissant. Standard Movenpick ice cream - great flavours and texture. A little disappointed with the croissant as it tasted not fresh, dense and took a bit of time to serve it too.
Serena L
Love the cakes and drink. Probably one of the best desert place in Auckland CBD. They got a lot different flavor for cakes. Environment is nice and clean. Staffs are friendly.
Liz Scott
Best waffles in Auckland is an understatement! Light, airy, and crispy. I had the chocolate lovers waffles and my friend the red velvet. What a work of art! The cafe was very clean and the music wasnโ€™t too loud. Very friendly staff!
Ruchita Choukar
OKO is my option when i desperately want to satisfy my sweet craving.
The only surprising thing is i never see the staff smiling whenever we go.
But they really good desserts.
Billy Chandraa
Love their waffle.
Whenever I passed their store, always tempted to give it a try and I did..
Been a regular customer for an odd weekends now..
Nina
Superb coffee.

Vibrant ambiance.

Helpful knowledgeable staff.

Ordered the Chocolate lovers belgium waffle, cones with a side of ice cream , chocolate sauce and handmade cream. I personally didnโ€™t enjoy it. It lacked umph. The waffle was placed on a fancy platter topped with a banana and chocolate flakes. It was basically a waffle that I couldnโ€™t taste since it was overpowered by the amount of chocolate on it. The chocolate sauce was too intense had this bitter sour taste to it.

The tiramisu tasted like too much Rum/ brandy.

The bliss cake was lite and enjoyable.

I would definitely return for coffee and try a skillet dessert next time. But the Belgium waffle plates are not really a big deal.
Elisa Soerjadi
Dropped by for dessert, had the matchacha cake and the hazelnut hot chocolate. Both tasted great, I liked how the dessert and the drink was not too sweet and did not leave me feeling sick in the end :)
The Poor Foodie
Suddenly craving for icecream but didnโ€™t want to go far so I went into OKO. I was excited to see they had movenpick! I was struggling to choose between two flavours so I asked the staff whether I could try a bit. The staff kindly gave me a taster.
Swiss choco flavour was really nice and not too sweet. But it wasnโ€™t a perfect looking scoop. The staff seemed to struggle when she was scooping out the icecream๐Ÿ˜ข

My friend ordered lemon ginger tea but then it was soooooo sour. He ended up adding more water into it and wanting some sugar๐Ÿ˜ข

The staff seemed to be incredibly busy and no one cleaned up the tables when the customers left. We ended up asking them if they could come and clean up.

Food: 3/5
Service: 2/5
Overall: 3/5

had some blueberry waffles at OKO dessert kitchen in the afternoon and the service was good the ice cream was yum the waffle was very delicious too would recommend here.

โ€œOKOโ€ translates to โ€œbowlโ€ in Maori. I was told this when I came here when it first opened around half a decade ago; their pretty cabinet cakes really attracted us โ€œkidsโ€ who were able to sit in the outdoor seating area and enjoy the sun next to Aotea Square.

However, I feel their cakes โ€”which are inevitably aesthetic โ€” are a little unexciting in taste. Also, theyโ€™re probably one of the higher priced ones of the likes around CBD.

I havenโ€™t been to try their plated desserts like waffles yet, but nothing about them really attracts me too much.

Food: 7/10
Price: 7/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Imperius Malekith
Wide variety of really nice looking desserts. I ordered the cookies & cream brownie, which tasted nice but the cream wasn't 100% fresh and the brownie base was a bit dry, and for the price I expected better. Also not sweet enough for me.
Its Me
Open til late so that works for me so I come here every now and then after having dinner with friends waffles are delicious and ice cream is good I just personally think they look better than how they actually taste ?? I'm not a very photogenic person but everyone else in there was busy taking pics lol but honestly they have other places in town that have better shit tho.. ??

Alright, this Is hands down my absolute favourite dessert place to get ice cream.

Ambience 10/10
Staff 10/10
Pricing 9/10 (if it was 10 - I would know what ice cream overdose is)
Ice cream 11/10
Waffles 11/10

Need I say more? It was an awesome experience felt like a 5 year old again.
Rosanne Choy
Waffles were crispy and soft on the inside. Mint ice cream was creamy and chocolate volcano was so delicious. The sauce inside was a perfect match with the volcano base. Would definitely come again to try the cakes.
Fountainabbey04
We have been coming here every now and then since it opened. The cakes are lovely, the hot chocolates are great: as are the desserts. However hygiene in the eating areas has been steadily declining ( stained menus tables not being wiped properly dirty seats, tables not being cleared etc). Today we actually left before ordering. We went to sit down outside. It is freezing today and only 2 of the heaters outside were working. In the outside area there were 3 large tables that were available near the working heated. from those tables. There were only 2 chairs and 1 table that did not have multiple dried bird excrements on them. That is 2 tables and 10 out is of 12 unoccupied chairs in the area that were unusable. There were 3 of us. I expecting people to eat sitting on and surrounded by excrement is not acceptable. It is also a report to the council. They are going to make someone sick.

I love this place and am so glad to have accidentally stumbled upon it! There is a wide choice of desserts and flavours - service is also really friendly. It gets really busy especially on Friday nights so I would recommend going in the daytime.
Mun Clair
I have been wanting to try dessert from here for the longest time!

I tried a large variety of their desserts upon my last visit and thoroughly enjoyed myself. I wouldn't recommend their milkshakes but other than that they have a delicious variety to choose from!
Jewel
Big dessert shop and nice dessert menu. I like waffle here crispy outside and soft inside. This place have a very good location too. But service just okay for me no smiles.
I_like_pickles
Great place for afternoon tea or a late night dessert. They have a great selection cakes in the cabinet as well as Movenpick ice cream, a dessert menu and Belgian Waffles.

It is on the more expensive side of a treat. But if you're in the mood for sweets and a treat then this is an option.
Yujie
Went there for their waffle. Crispy and sweet just as I expected. Movenpick ice cream is a plus. Would love to go back. Staff is really friendly and recommended food based on our preference.
Jeffie
Just came in for a pit stop, we ordered a combo of a banana cake and cappuccino ice cream. Service is a bit slow but polite. Ambience is ok, tables and cutlery were a bit dirty. The cake and ice cream were both nice.

Craving for something sweet? Well look no further than OKO, nested in Auckland's CBD.ย OKOย is guaranteed to impress withย cakes thatย are beautiful to look at and offerย a variety of interesting flavours to choose from.ย . With tiled walls, hanging ceilingย lights, and soft booth seating, OKO is the kind place where you can sit back and enjoy a cup of coffee together with a piece of delicious treat.

LOVE this place. Great place to go before the movie in the civic cinemas or for a date with friends/partner. Fresh desserts I love their volcano dessert or fresh waffles! Reasonable pricing as well!
Amod Indap
Awesome desserts. Esp the passion fruit one and the red colored ball thing they have. Bit pricey but worth it. The place has a nice large seating area outside, as well as a smaller space inside too. Good service.

I would rate it a solid 5 but I went again after a while trying out their new ones where I felt like the overall taste is not as impressive and the quality of cake is definitely not as good as before. However, they still have great interior designs and friendly customer services!

Looking for a sweet treat after dinner & initially thought this spot only had movenpick ice cream - it does, but also has so much more. There are chocolates, pre-made desserts & desserts made while you wait.
They also have a great range of coffees, teas & specialty hot chocolates made with melted chocolate.
We tried the mango pudding & lamington. Both were beautifully presented & delicious. Almost gives Milse a run for its money

This is one of my favourite place to go for tea date with my girl cause the decor are nice *nice lighting for insta worthy picture* ๐Ÿ˜„ and their staff are so friendly as well! I went in on a busy night and service was great and had really delicious crispy chocolate lover Waffle! OKO definitely be my regular dessert fix.
Kate
They consistently serve great Belgian waffles. The chocolate lover waffles paired with their panna cotta ice cream is always a treat. The hazelnut hot chocolate doesn't have much difference with ordinary hot chocolate beverages and their muffins is a bit on the dry side.

Hard to walk past this place in Aotea Square and not want to go in for some dessert. They have amazing cabinet desserts, which I've had previously. Tonight I chose Apple Crumble Belgian Waffles, OKO signature Mocha and Iced Chocolate. The waffles were amazing, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I can't fault them. The mocha was average, a bit too chocolately for my taste as they use real chocolate. My partner loves the Iced Chocolate as it uses Movenpick Ice Cream, so can't go wrong there.

The only negative about this place is the service. There are two entries so it's confusing if you enter from the back as you have to go through the store to get to the counter. Even though there are menu items, it's not displayed anywhere on a board and the menus aren't readily available, you have to look for them. No one offers to assist you or ask if you'd like to sit. After ordering we sat down at a dirty table as they didn't really bother to clean them up. There isn't much seating available and there was an empty table that had a laptop and some papers scattered. As it look occupied no one sat there even though it was pretty busy. After the place had quietened down the manager (I'm assuming) came and picked up all her things. I was pretty shocked as there were plenty of customers around that time who would have appreciated that table.

Overall it's pretty nice dessert place. Their service can definitely be improved. It is quite expensive but that is the nature of these places.
Hannah
Had amazing waffle at there. They have lots of options and great looking. Hope they have comfortable chairs to enjoy their great desert. Coffee taste is OK not really amazing.

We tried the hazelnut mousse, oko signature volcano dessert.
Well, hazelnut mousse was the best to be honest. It was so silky and yummy! It had the right amount of nut flavour and sweet. We enjoyed it a lot.
The volcano signature dessert was not as expected. Maybe because of the sour orange cake and bitter dark chocolate did not go well together. But i wouldn't say it was bad. It was still good, but I wouldn't have it again.
And I'm sure I'll go there again for the hazelnut mousse. I would recommend this place for a dessert date. Overall, I loved this place!
Angel
Good food & atmosphere, abit over priced for the portion you get! - $16 for the doughnuts below, id suggest getting waffles which are a better price, bigger & taste better
Would definitely come again
Anna
Came here for dessert on Saturday night for the first time with mixed feelings.

To start with the positive - we ordered the cabinet desserts and they were amazing, absolutely loved the Hazelnut Madness with the salted caramel surprise in the middle. The dark chocolate mouse melts in your mouth. The Tropical - mango mouse was just as delicious. All the flavours with the passionfruit and coconut sponge worked amazing together. A little on the pricier side - $9 for a small cake but a nice treat.

To the not so positive - service was seriously lacking (Or none existent). There was one guy who was smiley but other than that, when we arrived we were not welcome or greeted. We asked for our own menus then found our own seats only to be kicked out by being informed it was reserved. If they had seated us themselves, or told us there was no room for dine in then we would have gotten takeaway.

All in all, their deserts were delicious but pricey - would hope to come back for a different experience.
Clairine Baharrizki
I ordered the chocolate volcano and it was very, very tasty. The chocolate is not too sweet and the pairing with vanilla ice cream help balance out the flavour. Of course it is important to document the theatrics within the presentation of this dish tooโ™ก
Mochi.95
I went here after movies to have some desserts. We ordered a black forest cake, hazelnut madness cake, cookies and cream Belgian waffles and the chocolate lovers Belgian waffle.

The cakes were extremely sweet and a bit pricey ($9) for a cake that tiny and taste wasn't exactly mind-blowing. The waffles were good too but not exactly amazing that I would pay $16.50 for it again next time. It was nice but average and overpriced.

Hence, I would probably go to Milse or Miann next time. The only good thing about Oko is the location as it's easily accessible after movies.
Joan Blackburn
The Oko Dessert Kitchen never fail to amuse me. I don't need any event to celebrate to visit this place. I love that you could watch the pastry chefs make the desserts behind a glass. You could never guess the taste per cake, this is just simply unpredictable and clever.
Blackpearl
Desserts! Who would say no to desserts? Oko dessert kitchen is one of our favourite dessert places to visit. We love their signature hot chocolate and their array of cakes on the cabinet. Would love to try their waffles sometimes when we're around the CBD.
Julie
Went there after movies with friends. Great location and love the hot chocolate! Is so cool to construct your own hot chocolate.
Hazelnut chocolate cake (4/5)
Very smooth texture, love the touch of caramel inside the cake and the hazelnut with chocolate is just the perfect combination. But I would say it's missing a touch of crunchiness inside the cake and the price is a bit high, otherwise perfect.
Hot chocolate 56% (4.5/5)
Love how you can mix your milk and chocolate together to make your hot chocolate! Is not too sweet yet rich chocolate flavour.
Emma Kostanich
Awesome spot for a late night dessert and coffee. Always walked by this place but never really tried it out before. Much more inviting once you're inside, cosy and the staff are really friendly. We were impressed at the quality of the food and coffee, made the price worth it. Good alternative with much more seating than Parnells choc boutique.
Jay
Always delicious and they have such good waffles! Coffee and tea are great and the staff are pretty cool too ๐Ÿ˜Š would definitely recommend! Cookies and cream cabinet cake is a must have!
Mindylow_
Always a very good place to have ice cream after meal! In love with their blueberry cheesecake Ice cream! For someone who feels like eating cheesecake and ice cream at the same time, don't doubt about it! Choose blueberry cheese cakeeee!!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
Wapatino
I tried the chocolate lover waffle with a vanilla brownie ice cream and it was delicious! The only reason I don't give this place a higher rating is because the taste of the waffle itself could have been better and the prices are a bit too high. I'd like to go back and try some of their cakes and chocolate truffles.
Alexineeels
Funky atmosphere! This is one of my favourite dessert places and love their waffles menu!!

I usually order the strawberry waffles option, however on my recent visit this wasn't on the new menu. I liked how the chocolate waffle sounded but can't take bananas, so requested a switch with berries instead. The staff here were very accomodating and this alteration of the menu was done with no problems which I found very pleasing!

Great ambiance, great service from staff and great tasting desserts! :)
Alysha Bower
Went here for dessert with a couple of friends. It is a really cute dessert parlour with lots of seating.

There is massive selection of different desserts that you can choose from. I had the strawberry cheesecake, my friends had the banoffee pie and the cookies and cream.

I would say that mine definitely had the most flavour and wasn't too sickly to keep eating.

Probably would come back at some point to try one of their menu desserts.
Mikayla Plaziuk
Amazingly flavoursome and unique deserts!! Good service and they were really helpful about my allergy. We both loved our deserts and would love to go back to try some more! Reasonable pricing too!
David Kravitz (Fandorin)
Not the first time we are in this place but the first time we were standing and patiently waiting for a staff member to finish her call. Not a single word of excuse, or sorry or please wait a second, as unfriendly as it can get, typical "I don't give a damn service", disappointing as I use to buy deserts there for our company functions, will look for a new place now. And no goodbye when we left, what a shame!
Matt Yeahh
I think it's safe enough to compare this place to milsys yet it's lacking the environment and decor. Hasn't been open long and the menus look tired. The music is terrible. The staff like to use their phones way too much and there's not much customer service going on at all. The food I would say is average. I like to find the wow factor in good food and the chocolate lava thing was completely average. Wouldn't say it was a regret going here but man they have some very tough competition so I think they need to up their game a lot.
Emmelyn Fuentes Rosell
One of the dessert shops that opens late in the Auckland area. Their desserts are pretty on the eyes but my friend and I only ordered one dessert because we just ate and were 'almost' full. We tried their signature volcano and it was enough to make me want to come back and try other desserts like their waffles.
Frimz.r
Yummy waffles to die for, so crunchy and gooey..loved the dessert.. cool place to hang out with friends..the staff was friendly..the interior is nice..recommend this place
Umamimochi
I'd rate the presentation 5/5. However the taste does not live up to the hype. We ordered the signature Volcano, green passion and the Chocolate Lover waffles. I found the volcano way too sweet and the green passion lacking in flavour. ย The waffles were good.
Arushi Thapar
This place is my second most favourite in Auckland after Giapo.
Be its desserts or coffee everything is good here. Great ambience and nice service by the staff.
Have had tiramisu, Belgian waffles, banoffee, green passion and hot chocolate. All of it tastes delicious.
Definitely visiting again sometime soon.
Michelle
I had a strawberry waffles and iced mocha. They are awesome.
The price is a lil high but I reckon it's worth it to pamper yourself once in a while ;)
Penguin93
Nice place, good dessert collection. If you order to drink in, and you order a hot chocolate, they provide you with the tools to make it yourself. Steamed milk, a mason jar with flaked chocolate, and a small jug of melted chocolate too. It's quite a cute little novelty, to get to make your own hot chocolate.
Jay
A great place to get desert when out late in town. They really do try to create some quality, tasteful dishes and the staff are excellent. Their deconstructed hot chocolate should be your first pick.
Elle
I love that this place is open late! The ambience is lovely and they have cheeky cocktails and also decent coffee! Aside from the marvelous selection of ice cream their dessert selection is decent too! Good seating too for couples and large groups!
Phoenix Brown
The staff the atmosphere and the food were great I have been here plenty of times and have never been let down yet. I found out about this little place of dessert heaven when I was in the city and my sweet tooth kicked in and I discovered this place and I fell in love the chocolate volcano is to die for the waffles are always delicious and even the cabinet desserts make anyone happy can't complain at all
Jessica
Been here once before and I really liked it and would happily go again. The desert look gorgeous and taste awesome too. Location is hidden away in the CBD but if you do get the chance, pop in and try one of them! I'm keen to go back and try more flavours that's for sure.
Kylie
Presentation and taste of the desserts was great! I got the Green Passion and the combination of flavours wasn't something I'd tried before, but they did it great.

Service was impeccable, they accommodated us, a large group, with balloons and presents and cake, and the servers were all lovely. Food came quickly as well.
Nashi Dasgupta
Visited here with my friends.Lovely place for Fine Deserts,IceCreams&Coffee. They have Chocolates and variety of Deserts. This place is a bit pricey but is a good place to try!We ordered Waffles :IceCream Lover Waffle, comes with you choice of two IceCream scoops(Movenpick) and sauce,Berries and crumbled nuts.So we ordered Passionfruit&Mango Scoop,Vanilla,Rasberry & Tiramisu IceCream.
Another Waffle was the Chocolate Lover Waffle which comes with thick Chocolate Sauce,Cookie Crumbs, Fresh Cream,Chocolate IceCream Scoop and Caramalised Banana.
IcedMocha was also delicious,Frothy Frappe and the cream was perfect.
Nazia
Great place, always busy but staff are always willing to accommodate. Best waffles and awesome service special thanks to Angela for all her help.
Miss Savy
This place has become my new sweet spot stop! My eyes totally light up at the moreish array of desirable cabinet deserts - I can't help but take away to devour and indulge!
The Banoffee and strawberry cheese cake are my weakness! Yum!
Deen Khan
The movenpicice cream is the best and that about sums it up for oko. The chef's desserts are so hit and miss and really vary on size and quality depending on which chef is working, no consitancy at all. And the prepped desserts have been stale on more than one occasion, especially the pecan pie. ย It is all style over substance and the descriptions don't match the taste. I would go again but only for take-away ice cream
Heidi M
I went here for Valentines Day I had the waffles with ice-cream and fruit and a glass of wine the food was great and there is a wide variety of options.
Tania Dawson
Wow! Just wow!

Got the Woody Nut dessert and a pot of tea (I assumed it would be overly sweet so needed tea to wash it back) however, it was perfect!

Creamy, delicate and the perfect amount of sweetness. Every mouth full was heaven. Even the detail of the chocolate with there logo shows the amount of love and care these guys put into their product. They obviously really care about the quality and presentation of their desserts.

Will definitely come back and tell all my friends about this place
FoodieCritic
Great late night dessert place for something different yet delicious! Good sized portions for very sweet desserts. Not too big. The waffles are delicious & my favourite. Our friend tried the chocolate volcano dessert and she said it is a chocolate lovers delight. It looked spectacular! The hot chocolate is my regular hot drink & Oko make the best!
Ryan Wong
Great tasting all press coffee and staff here are super friendly, I would come here with a date for desserts and or great coffee. Keep it up guys!
Nick Fin
there are many kinds of cakes and chocolates. we have woodynut cake and Nuttini and passion wire cocktail. cake is chocolate sweet and balanced hazelnut flavor together. and there cocktail was amazing with very rich
nutty taste. And they seem sell waffle as well. i saw they serving waffle looks huge. I will have it next time.
Ezzz
LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Quiet and clean, nice staff, very enthusiastic and helped us to select the cakes. All cakes are around $9, I had the black chocolate coating with vanilla moose, my friend has tiramisu. Really nice cake I have to admit, but sadly not a huge range of selection. But will definitely come back and try more!!!

Neat little joint on upper Queen Street. My group of four were all feeling a little peckish in the afternoon so we decided to inject some sugary delights into tummies.

The layout is really cool. It's clean, comfortable and relaxing without being pretentious. We had the banoffee pie with ice cream and waffles with chocolate and lemon meringue.

Our orders came out really quick which was awesome and the waiter serving us was nice but a little pushy. The banoffee pie was disappointing- it didn't really taste too nice and the flavour was lacking. The waffles were pretty good; the chocolate sauce and lemon curd were delicious and the presentation was spot on.

Showstopper: Waffles were nice and the presentation was fab.

Overall Grade: B

Came here after dinner one night and got their waffles. It is served with fruits and ice cream. Service was a tad slow but the waffles were worth it. Slightly on the pricier spectrum.

On the other hand, their hot chocolate was a DIY make your own hot chocolate which could have been fun but there was just not enough chocolate.

The lava cake was cool because it was shaped like a volcano but unfortunately it didn't look too appetizing to eat since chocolate sauce was poured into the middle of the cake.

And lastly, my cabinet cake (can't remember what) wasn't very nice at all.

All in all, I'll stick with waffles in the future.
Michelle Chua
Second time back here. Food is good. Atmosphere is good. Love the way how they let u put how much you want for your drinks. Kind of engaging yourself with what you eat. Hahah yeah. It's a must try after Miann and Milse :)
Monique Porteous
Took my mum here for Mother's Day after years of always bringing her takeaway gatuex' home from Oko. She instantly fell in love with the aesthetics of the place and felt at home. What I love about oko is the service and the high quality dessert foods. I would recommend trying one of each type of dessert - plated, chocolate, tart, gatuex, cake and even the Movenpick ice cream ๐Ÿช๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿง๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿญ
Vth7872
The menu changes often so what you see in pictures here may not be available when you visit. Also when I went there, some desserts that were on the menu also weren't available. But those desserts that were available were incredibly delicious.
Danny
I had heard many things about OKO. Some foodies tout it as the best dessert in Auckland. Others claim it to be average. I find myself in the latter camp. We ordered a milk chocolate โ€“ hazelnut and a pistachio โ€“ white chocolate cake. The safe choice was good overall. A simple combination of milk chocolate and hazelnut. The other cake was too sweet and was almost a challenge to finish.
Amy @ My Dining Journey
With eateries such as Milse and Miann, it's hard to compete in the dessert scene in Auckland CBD. My friend and I decided to give OKO Dessert Kitchen a go because we were on that side of Queen Street after dinner and predicted a long line for Miann.ย

In regards to options, OKO had a good variety of choices from plated desserts to sweet treats from the cabinet. We had just finished dinner so we decided to share the Volcano/Balloon which was a combination of fresh fruit and a chocolate volcano. I enjoyed the theatrics of the dish but the taste was like a standard dessert and rather mediocre. The volcano itself was too sweet and only saved by the tartness of the fruits.ย

Seating wise, there are plenty of tables meaning that instead of waiting in a line, you can pop in, satisfy your sweet tooth and leave before you manage to get a table at Milse.
Emma W
The menu has multiple parts and seems very confusing. My partner and I shared a belgian waffle and for $16.50 it was underwhelming.

The chefs cooking in the "display kitchen" looked like they didn't want to be there. This place pretends to be fancy but is lacking compared to other dessert restaurants in the CBD.

Overpriced mediocre desserts, will go somewhere else in the area for dessert in future.
Joan Cecille De Guzman-Lomibao
I love desserts... We tried this Dessert haven last year and i love their desserts... Affordable, fancy, mouth watering desserts... Handy location... Highly recommended...
Manic Diner
Dined here after work with my work friends last night.ย I tried their volcano which was visually stunning with the effect of coconut air and the berry lava and coconut foam.ย I enjoyed the foam and yoghurt sponge base of the volcano but found the chocolate shell of the volcano to be too sweet and the berry lava to be too tangy.ย I felt it needed something to cut it but I think that's just a personal preference of mine.ย My friends had the creme brulee, strawberry waffle and the chocolate lovers waffle x 2.ย We tried each others desserts and I found I preferred the waffle desserts mainly because the waffle itself was perfectly done.ย The texture of the waffle was just right with a crispness on the outside and all softness inside.ย It went beautifully with the scoop of movenpick icecream and fruit.
Josh Law
Came here for a few beers after work. Didn't realise they did beersies. This would be a wicked place to have a bit of sweet and bitter after a meal.
Fiona M
We went here the other night for a pre movie drink. The staff were friendly and the desserts looked amazing. Will have to come back for a sweet treat soon.
Christian
Great looking cakes. I I have enjoyed these little ones and I think I will go back if I look for something different. The place is not particularly well-located. Attached to the cinema- ok if you want to satisfy your sweet tooth but not really a place for a special night with the special one.
Manpreet Kaur
the best waffles I've ever had!! oko is always my to go for dessert whenever I'm in town. The hot chocolate is also amazing!! The staff are very welcoming and accommodate to your taste buds! Only downside is that it can get quite busy so sometimes you have to wait for a table!
Issie
I feel as this place has sprung up for a competition for the dessert place in britomart MI*** genuinely the location is convenient for chats with friends and hang out with. Beverages and musli were nice. Great place for ice cream too. Their desserts I'm not a big fan of. Place is well lit creating good atmosphere for conversations.
Fyona Fang
Love it! I've been here twice, and tried couple of dessert, very good! I love the cakes, so cute and so yummy. The sweetness is just enough. Waffle is yummm!!!
Rojas
Great place for late night desserts. Their chocolate volcano is a favourite among my friends and I, combining a hard chocolate shell with sweet mango, fruity mousse and coconut foam. Well worth the price.
Misskariinx
Only went here because we were craving desserts. I was so excited to try to Belgium waffles because they looked so good... However I was surprised that the waffle just tasted like a thin crispy piece of bread... Nothing special... However the presentation was good. Not going to return again.
Sheena Kumari
Good desserts but abit pricey for the amount you get, a nice place to go with friends and chill. Staff aren't around much so you got to pick on your own I suppose not much help. But overall a good dessert place :)
Vivi S
Such a disappointing experience. I'm not normally one to leave my food less than half eaten, especially when it comes to dessert. Oko peaked my interest for a while but now I avoid it without a second glance. The taste is nothing like you'd anticipate from the individually presented plates. Mildly presentable but below average in goรปt. Never again.
Food Food Food
This place was recommended by a close friend. Decided to give it a try, given that it was valentine's - desserts a must go. Arrived around 9:30pm and place was very lively. Very easy to find as it was right in Aotea square. We ordered their signature chocolate volcano and 2 iced chocolates. Did not disappoint. Sour over sweet anytime for me so I absolutely loved the volcano; like a mini chocolate fondue with mixed berries plated very creatively.
Iced chocolates were fine - nothing tasted too unique in that sense.
Service was also decent.
Would recommend for everyone. Lovely for a date.
Jonnie Black
Dessert was good, they had good service and served is very quickly. Although they interrupted us several times with orders that were not ours and could clearly see we had our drinks. Hot chocolates which are to die for. Dessert came out, volcano looked amazing and had excellent presentation. Some parts of the dish was way too sweet and needed something to balance it out. Chocolate was also a stunning dessert, again you need a sweet palate to enjoy this dish. Creme Brรปlรฉe another excellently presented dish, and tasted very good although all components on the dish need to be placed together otherwise as with the others is way to sweet. Too sweet to the point of not being editable. However, we did order the chocolate lovers waffles and unfortunately waited for a long time to not receive them. After asking they thought they had already brought this out. That was highly disappointing. Would recommend just not on a busy night as they can not keep up with the demand regardless of the amount of staff they have on.
Michelle Hwang
Both coffee and cakes were good. Also good environment and service. But I prefer the Asian style desserts which were made with less sugar and salt. 140 characters ......

Located at aotea square, its a nice place with ample outdoor seating. Indoors seating, not so much. They always have a range of approx 12 mini cake desserts. I have tried 8 of them on different occasions and they are melt in the mouth must try kinds. They also have waffles. Not a kick in them. Have tasted better ones before. The take away, prepared dessert did not leave a great impression on me. I recently had the red velvet dessert. It was 80% chocolate ganache, 14% red velvet sponge cake, .5% freeze dried strawberries and .5% crunches. An imbalanced dish.

I am yet to try the made to order dessert. Which I am hoping would be way better. They also have an in-house selection of movenpick gelato.

Pricewise:
Mini preprepared desserts: $9 each
Made to order: $15
Sophia O-W
Such a smart little place with decadent desserts, I will definitely be back to try more. The staff were very polite and informative especially explaining the desserts, and the setup is very cute. We had the orange yuzu and snowdrift - both so beautiful visually and tasting. The flavours were very well balanced and the snowdrift was by far my favourite! Definitely pop in here if you are around the aotea square area
Thegreeats
Very similar to milse in Britomart with a smaller selection but many more seats
They also serve movenpick icecream and a selection of drinks
Tad pricey but delicious so definitely a once in a while treat
Located in aotea square so great place to chill.
Staff were attentive
Richie Chewy
Bumped into oko by accident from the signs outside aotea square advertising their Belgium waffles where " life is too short , have dessert first ! " tag line and we just had dinner so opted to try out the Belgium waffles as was in the mood for it. To our surprise they have a lot of ice cream from movenpick, Allpress coffee and lots of dessert selection but we resisted temptations and stuck to our plan and ordered the strawberry banana waffle with tiramisu ice cream and boy did it hit the spot as the waffle was so fresh and soft - one of the best I've had for awhile and the mix with the strawberries , bananas and ice cream was the perfect blend ! We shared it and it was demolished very quickly and 100% satisfied ! Staff was fairly new and not very attentive and there were a few patrons and they forgot our drinks order but it's all good as the waffles were yummy and will be back next time we are in the area so try it out as you won't be disappointed !

We visited (and discovered) this spot on New Year's Eve, about 40min before midnight.

As you can imagine it was insanely busy but we found a cosy table for two relatively easily so already winning. I ordered a lychee dessert and my husband opted for the Tiramisu. Both desserts were absolutely divine and perfect before out NYE celebrations commenced.

We also grabbed a hot chocolate & mocha before leaving and the drinks were really good as well.

I have to say that being so busy, we were served really quickly which was quite impressive. The place itself was very well appointed, with a really light and chic setup.

Highly recommend :)

19th Dec. A Quiet Sunday. Just randomly picked a cake from the cabinet, ooo! It was so delicious, finally found my ideal not-so-sweet dessert in town! $9 for this yummy cake is reasonable! Because it comes with good service, great taste and a clean and tidy dining environment, you get what you pay for๐Ÿ™‚
Banana & Strawberry Waffle with passion fruit ice cream, average taste, good for sharing with your best mate ๐Ÿค“.
Karen
I have tried from both the dessert menu and the cabinet and it was a little meh for me. Definitely not bad, but not amazing.ย

Love the presentation of the food, and the modern decor of the restaurant. Staff are very nice and attentive too.ย

Probably wouldn't return as I already know what to expect which wouldn't encourage me enough to come back.
Brave Eat
Very good place to go for high quality desserts. This place is very relaxing and friendly staff is always there to help you. I love their tea options and Movenpick ice cream. It is quite expensive, so you must be prepared.
Seriously Foodie
Desserts are pretty good, along with the presentation. Have been trying the different counter desserts and will definitely recommend. However the staff need to be more ALIVE.
Ridad
Dessert cafe in a very handy location. I have been here a few times and the desserts on the counter are all great. However you won't be able to stay for long because the place gets very busy and the servers get quite impatient with you.
Melissa Bishop
Came here yesterday to get some dessert, the dessert was delicious but it was $9 and the portion of what I had wasn't worth that much money, would recommend in making sure the price is worth the food, I enjoyed the food but the staff working didn't seem to be interested in my Boyfriend and I ordering food, they gave an alright service, so you might want to make sure that your staff smile when hey serve and are happy because the girl who served as had a very serious face, so that made the experience not very good
Elizabeth Harding
So delicious. A nice place to finish off a night out. Skip dessert at other restaurants and come here instead :)
Chocolate gateau is especially really nice - melts in your mouth!
Danny
It may be located conveniently in Aotea square but that convenience comes at a price. We ordered a milk chocolate - hazelnut and a pistachio - white chocolate cake.

The first, safer choice was good overall. The other cake was too sweet and was almost a challenge to finish. The presentation was appealing and the staff was polite and professional. But at $8.50 each, I would rather go to one of the other dessert places in the area.

Don't believe the hype, OKO is OK at best.
Vicki Ko
I have been here twice now and sadly I must say both times have been slightly disappointing.

Staff are very friendly and welcoming.

The desserts are okay, but I wouldn't say they are worth the cost. With the prices, I had a high expectation of the dessert and was hoping the taste would make up for portion and price, unfortunately the taste was nice but average.
Sabrina Chae
Ordered woody, pistacia, and cereal tub. Not a big fan of cereal tub but my boyfriend seems to love it. Pistacia is slightly hard in texture (i thought it would be soft, sponge cake like texture) and has nice slightly nutty flavour that doesnt overpower. Woody is extremely soft, unlike its name. I would recommend woody to those who like dark chocolate taste, sweet but with slight bitter taste.

OKO is located in central Auckland and in a very convenient location! I've been here a few times and i do love how their partnered with Movenpick (i normally come here just to get some ice cream) but on a few occasions i have trie their fancy looking desserts in the cabinet, and while they look amazing, i do this they focus more on the look of their desserts as opposed to the taste. On this particular occasion however, i ordered this cheesecake dessert and i was very impressed, nicer than the other desserts i've tried! Their customer service is really amazing too, the staff are very friendly and enjoying helping you out (if you're struggling on what to get) and they dont rush you at all. I probably would come back occasionally but i am a bit gutted that it isnt as amazing as everyone claims it to be.
Judy Chhy
3rd time coming here but this time we decided to get something more special for my brothers birthday! We ordered the volcano along with other cakes. My partner who is allergic to gluten could get a cake which made us both happy cause it's hard to find dessert places that offer gluten free options. The volcano was pretty cool to see aswell!
L.E.N.S
Cozy dessert eatery, only one of very few places in Auckland that exclusively provide desserts.

Staff are eager to provide insight into the different sweet creations on offer, and service is efficient for take-away desserts, which are only the cold desserts. Less so for in-house desserts, which include hot dessert options.

The food itself, although spectacularly presented, unfortunately lacks slightly in taste and quality. I ordered the white hot chocolate which had the consistency of a watered down condensed milk, the lemon curd cheesecake was dense and hard and bland, the few cakes we tried all had a similar taste of a supermarket bought sponge cake. Not confessing to have tried everything (and on a plus they have a huge selection of treats to try), friends ordered the chocolate mousse and a hot chocolate pudding type dessert, and having had spoonfuls of theirs, chocolate dishes definitely seem to be their strong point.

Overall, whilst incredible looking desserts, beautifully put-together and packaged, OKO lacks slightly in the taste and texture department. Would recommend trying one of the chocolate desserts to be satisfied.

If you're willing to pay $9 for a cake that only looks nice, then this is the place for you xDย

Came to OKO when it first opened but never went back again because the cakes I tried weren't great and not worth the price. My friends and I came here the other night, just for the Movenpick icecream because it was the closest but one of my friends bought 4 cakes for us to share (which was really sweet of her).ย

The chocolate rectangle cake was really dense and dry, same as when I had it the first time. The creme brulee wasn't great - the sugar coating was gooey and soft to the point where it was sickening and had to spit it out. Out of all 4, the tiramisu was bearable but the taste was really average and didn't taste much of a nice tiramisu. The green tea cake was average as well, which noone wanted to finish. The orange macaron-looking thing was soggy.ย

I feel like OKO is a really overhyped place with average cakes that are overpriced. Giving this place a go a second time has confirmed that I'll never be going again. I definitely prefer Milse or Gateau House for cakes.

Great place for a late night dessert treat. Good range of cup cakes of all sorts. The coffee was decent too. Auckland really needs more of these types of Cafes that opens until late. I was hoping they would stay open a lot later than 11pm on weekends.
Marggie Pascua
The service is really good but the coffee and the dessert was not that amazing. The dessert was too sweet. The Mocha I had wasn't that good.

The ambience is good and the staff are really nice but the food was overall disappointing.

The ambience is inviting and the staff are very helpful๏ผŒbut they need to improve the taste. Dessert is presented nicely but the taste is just averag. Totally overpriced and not deserve the hype.

OKO is a lovely place to come for a cute date night or post-movie visit. Its just a little something special from your average desert parlour. ย Presentation of the desert dishes is adorable with the carbon dioxide/pansy garnishes and the flavors are pretty good; however, I do agree with other reviewers that the hype is a tad too high for this place. ย It would probably not be a place that I would regularly come back to.
Razelle Icaro
Very well presented dessert, high prices, average taste. I would choose Milse over this any day! The place is quite nice and I prefer the look of their shop but the taste of the food itself is not worth the price. I got a tiramisu and it was quite average, I've definitely tried better once and I don't think it's worth the hype. I didn't like the Matcha dessert at all and the apple crumble/cream dessert pretty much tasted as if it was 90% cream. They need to try improve the taste.

I am a regular customer, love the ice cream & coffee but the service has taken a huge dip lately. Today I stood there for about 15 minutes and not one of the staff even attempted to help me. The two ladies are walking around like they don't have a clue what they are doing. They both see me standing there but still no attempt to help me!! Really disappointed...

A cool place for awesome looking dessert. The ambience is modern and very inviting. Dessert ingredients need to be tweaked to improve taste. Service standards also need improvement and staff needs to be more in sync with modern service expectations.
Charlotte
I enjoy all of OKO's deserts that I have tried thus far. They're different from your typical cake sort of desserts. The flavours are always well balanced; not overly sweet like some places are... I like being able to kinda watch them make the desserts through the windows. So interesting! They also serve Movenpick ice cream which is a total bonus!
Staff are efficient and friendly. The restaurant is very stylish and is warm, plus there's plenty of seating

After dinner desert place, absolutely delightful experience. Excellent choice of Mรถvenpick ice cream with amazing selection of deserts (my favorite "oko").
Shelly
The hype about this place is too high. The desserts are almost designed mostly for your eyes rather than your stomach. The desserts to me are below average, the interior is beautiful along with literally everything else - all pleasing to the eye, but such a shame the product is not up to standard. The maitre d' was lovely and very informative about the style of service they offer, but the staff behind the counter lack customer service skills. Overall enjoyed the ambience of the place, but products offered were disappointing. A change of menu maybe?

OKO Dessert Kitchen, they have such a huge variety of dessert, once I stepped in, it makes me so happy! So many beautiful dessert to choose from the cabinet and menu. The ambience and service was great, I manage to have good time with my girlfriend to have a corner to ourselves for chatting and enjoying our lovely dessert while looking at every other dessert that they dish out for other customers, which was looking gorgeous. I would love to try every of the dessert in the cabinet and menu.

I have ordered liqueur coffee and tiramisu cake. The coffee was great and the tiramisu cake was yummy with the white chocolate encased on the outside of the gorgeous cake and soft fluffy cake inside, taste really good and not too sweet. Just perfect!

Ambience / Decor: 4/5
Service: 4/5
Food / Taste: 4/5
Price: High
Overall: 4/5

Highly recommended, if you have a love for beautiful dessert and have a sweet tooth. I would definitely come here again when I have sweet tooth craving!

OKO Dessert kitchen was very cute and welcoming. Location is great. The staff all seemed very friendly and helpful. I ordered the Woody Nuts cabinet dessert and a few mini macaroons. I expected them to taste like mini macaroons but they were just chocolates which ended up being fine by me! The salted caramel ones were yum, could be a bit more salty though. The Woody nuts was light and foam like. It was okay but had a funky little taste. Wouldn't order that again, especially for the price of $9. I think it was all a bit over priced for what is was. $3 for a little chocolate is pretty dear if you ask me. Cute little place though!

Very lovely dessert place to try out in the CBD. Although my order was forgotten about for quite awhile, the staff were very apologetic and gave me complimentary chocolates to make up for it which was very nice. I ordered the volcano (unsure of its name on the menu) and I was quite amazed by both its spectacle and its taste; so full of different flavours.

Oko was the first dessert kitchen I visited in Auckland and I fell in love with this place. Cake, chocolates and coffee all in one place, heaven. Staff was friendly and recommended the best affogato I've tasted and also affordable. Cant wait to come back

Stopped by for a post lunch sugar pick me up. Went into the restaurant and sat in the bench by the ice cream counter. After being given menus they took our orders when we were ready. Their special desserts were only available after 3pm so ended up going with the chocolate waffles. The cabinet cakes also looked tasty.

Everything was looked nice and tasted good. I wasn't really a fan of the waffles since they were a bit tart (presumably buttermilk waffle). The waffles were nice and crispy and the topping were decadent.

Nice range of sweets for those with a sweet tooth.

Came here last night with a friend. Ordered the balloon dessert and it looked really impressive. It has a big sphere shaped chocolate shell and while it is being delivered to the table a smoke effect is coming out of the sphere opening. Then once it reaches the table the wait staff pours sauce into it. Visually it was really good, however it didn't taste as good as it looked. The taste was just ok, it was not bad, but was pretty average. It wasn't sweet though which was good. This particular one is sour so if you're into that you might like it.

OKO is an amazing dessert boutique with different cakes available and also Movenpick ice cream. I'm almost a regular at OKO due to the fact that i just have to have my cakes. I highly recommend their Balloon dessert. Even though it takes time to prepare, it is definitely worth your time. The chocolate is nicely tempered and the fruits and cream are amazing together. Their DIY hot chocolate is amazing. The staff are very friendly and attentive to what you need and if you're lucky, one of the chocolate chefs might even give you a top up of chocolate for your hot chocolate. The atmosphere is amazing with music playing throughout the idea of having an open kitchen where you can see the chocolates being made is genius. Overall, I would still be going back to this place for occasions or just to get my dose of desserts.

As I was ushered in by a bubbly waiter/barista/manager into this glorified Movinpick, my initial thought as I entered the establishment was that he is too overqualified to be working in this 'Tinder meet-up' hotspot for Oriental folk.

However when the desserts came out, it began to make more sense. Such decadence I have not experienced since the legendary "Death By Chocolate" of Mission Bay (RIP). We were treated to culinary genius in the form of "Woody Nuts", a truly delectable nutty number from the cabinet. If you do decide to frequent Oko, it would be a crime not to try this. This was coupled by the "Calligraphy", a dessert as ambiguous as its name. I battled through its salted lemon and coral-sponge hazelnut, sprinkled in what looked suspiciously like the remanence of a box of 'honey puffs' that could be older than Jesus. Don't get me wrong, I hated it, but by god I loved the experience.

Coffee was great too.

Service 5/5
Food 4/5
Price 4/5
Visited on a busy Friday night and got two of the cabinet cakes (the Woody Nut and the Quadruple 1), a salted caramel macaroon chocolate, a hot chocolate and an iced chocolate made with Movenpick ice cream. The Woody Nut cake was delicious - a soft chocolate mousse texture with a nice salted caramel flavour. The Quadruple 1 looked amazing and tasted quite good but was just a bit dry. The hot chocolate comes as a jug of hot milk, a small jug of pouring chocolate and a glass with chocolate shavings at the bottom so you can adjust how much milk & chocolate you want - loved the novelty of this and tasted really good. The iced chocolate was also really tasty, made with two scoops of Movenpick chocolate ice cream and topped with whipped cream. The macaroon-shaped chocolate was yum (a bit over-priced though as was around $3.50 for a small chocolate filled with caramel). Overall was pretty delicious but slightly over-priced compared to other dessert places.
Carol
Beautiful looking well priced desserts that are yummy too. We found the staff friendly and helpful. I liked the outside heaters esp as I had my ice cream on a chilly night. Suggest displaying ice-cream prices & adding cake pics on menu

Favourite dessert place!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‹
Definitely worth it! I always come here for dessert with my friend. Definitely will recommend this to my friends. So many delicious dessert there! T"misu and their signature hot chocolate are so GOOD!
They also have Movenpick ice cream and also a thickshake/milkshake of any Movenpick ice cream flavour - basically a Movenpick ice cream shake!! Service is great. Price is not too expensive and it is definitely worth spending.
Definitely a must try!
LouLou
The first time I had coffee here was slightly questionable, very weak and milky, so have stuck to the premium teas since. The desserts however are works of art, watching the pastry chefs create them is entertainment in itself, and they taste amazing. I've tried the gluten free meringue dessert and the cheesecake one, both amazing!

Who doesn't love dessert! I checked out Oko in the movie complex on Queenstown tonight for a cheeky sweet treat before heading to a film festival film. Their menu includes cabinet cakes, movenpick ice creams and dessert 'meals'. I went for a oko hot chocolate and a cabinet cake- Apple paradise. The hot chocolate came out in three parts, a jug of hot milk, a jug of hot chocolate sauce and a glass with flaked chocolate in the bottom.
I love novel food presentation so loved putting it together and it tasted delish!
The apple paradise was yum too although I would call more of a dessert than cake!

Iโ€™ve always wanted to try this place out since it popped up in Aotea Square last year, having walked past multiple times and hearing good things about it as well. When we arrived, it was quite busy and also a very cold night, so we waited a bit for a table to free up. The staff were beyond lovely and went out of their way to make sure everyone was comfortable.ย

The dessert cabinet itself looked gorgeous, very similar to Milse. I ordered the OKO heart-shaped cake, and my friend got the Tea Garden cake, both $8.50. A little bit pricey, but I suppose that's what you pay for gourmet desserts these days. They arrived quickly at the table, and tasted just as delicious as they looked. Both were similar in construction, with a light mousse top and a harder, crunchier base. The flavours were quite sweet, but the size of the cakes were quite small so it wasnโ€™t overpowering.

Compared to Milse, I'd say I'd still prefer Milse over OKO, just because there is a bit more variety and diverse flavours. OKO is still really nice though, and I'd like to return to try the other cakes and flavours as well :)

Been here twice already and so far loving it! Place is tucked on the side of the metro building at the civic and initially thought it was Movenpick as the sign was not as visible. The cabinet dessert all looks very scrumptious and not too sweet. I didnt realize they also have made to order menu but the staff didnt point it out and we only noticed it when other diners were having them. Coffee service was slow at times and staff needs reminding. But overall a good little dessert kitchen option esp after a movie night in the city! Must try!

This place looked promising as there's not many dessert restaurants to choose from. However I was slightly let down. We ordered the balloon which was beautiful and photogenic, but taste wise was just decent something that I probably wouldn't try again. We also ordered the tiramisu I think, which I enjoyed slightly more. Presentation and location is perfect the desserts definitely looked better then they tasted.
Jaya
This is a very appealing dessert place, with nice decor and colourful dessert creations. A friend didn't have the best experience with the food, but had to try for myself. Unfortunately, their cakes don't quite match up to the excitement that they bring visually. I tried their Volcano cake and the combination didn't work well for my palate. Probably won't come back.

Had my first ever affogato here!!! Love writing reviews for desserts as I always feel happy when I eat or even think about them >.< OKO was probably my first proper dessert place, I tried a variety of the cabinet cakes the delicacy and details that were put in the desserts completely blew me away. Even looking at them is an enjoyment! Really loved "Mirror" but then I like anything chocolaty! The cakes are pricy, but would definitely be worth a try and it is a worthy treat for yourself during special times! Would love to try a proper chef-made dessert next time :)

We decided to try out this place as I love me some good dessert! The environment of this establishment yields a level of cosy-ness. The dessert cabinet looked delightful and very very appealing! The desserts actually looked too nice to eat haha. Anyway, I ordered the woody nut chocolate log. The chocolate was very rich and decadent - I loved it! My partner decided to try out some ice cream... Coconut Swiss chocolate is definitely my fave. The only crappy thing about this place was the girl who served us. She was a bit snarky for no reason :s - the waiter was really nice though! :) I would love to visit this place during summer! I can't wait.

The atmosphere here was quite nice. Went there in the evening for dessert and had one of those from the cabinet display. Prices are decent; similarly priced to other dessert specialty stores like Milse. The inside has limited seating so we opted for the outdoor seating and there were heaters so it's nice to sit outside even during winter. The desserts are very beautiful and taste quite delicious.

I was excited when I heard another dessert place opened in Auckland as I'm a big dessert person.

I went here with my sister before watching a show in Aotea Centre. She had the Harney and Sons Paris tea which she got obsessed with straight afterwards and I had a mocha.

We then got a dessert each. I had the Quadruple and she had the Rock n Roll. The Quadruple is rectangular chocolate one and the base was super hard and it separated. I expected it to be better but it just didn't deliver. My sister's Rock n Roll was better.
I guess I just had high expectations because it's the same price with Milse but it fell a bit short of amazing. I think I'll go back and give this place another shot though.

OKO is a quaint dessert bar with a large variety of sweet treats.
The service is polite but there's no atmosphere. You don't really feel comfortable staying at the venue to enjoy your food.
I grabbed my favourite, a T"Misu and Woody Nuts takeaway. They looked so delicate and lovely; and tasted even better.
But the portion is measly, technically each dessert could be consumed in just one bite. And for $9 a bite, it is expensive.

Nice small dessert place. Great for some quiet sweet time on a sunday afternoon. The green tea mousse was not too sweet with a crunchy base.

First Impression, when I visited last year: My rating was 5.0ย When I first saw the OKO advertisement on the bus stop on Queen St. I was very reluctant to go and try out. Mainly because of Milse at Britomart. Milse's desserts taste were still lingering on my taste buds and it made me think there is not a great place like Milse for desserts. But when I visited OKO late last year, I was surprised and amazed by friendly staff and chefs for their efforts in making the tastiest desserts at an affordable price in the heart of the city.I still remember my first day at OKO, I was surprised to see my friend behind the counter. I jokingly asked her can I make my own hot chocolate, and she said sure why not? She bought me a tray with a jug of frothy milk, a small jug of hot chocolate and glass mug with some chocolate chips at the bottom. And I just mix everything and your hot chocolate is ready. I was like WOW!It is part of their menu item I think it is OKO signature hot chocolate. You can either sit inside or outside. The ambience of the restaurant is very casual style yet very elegant design. As you enter you will be tempted by the amazing mouth water desserts displayed in front of you. At the right side of the entrance, you can see chefs preparing for the OKO's speciality desserts.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Impression in theย year 2016
The rating changed to 2.0
Wait staff don't give professional hospitality service anymore; No smiles No engaging with customers, No eye contact their table layout has changed, no more glass and cutleries on table. No water will be served to you.Last year first thing they will do is, Smile, Bring you to table, Give you a menu and then Serve Water with beautiful OKO smile.Don't buy OKO smoothie, it's like a juice, not really a smoothie. $9 is bit pricey.
L ๐Ÿฆ‹
I'd say their cabinet desserts are pretty average but the presentation is on point! Don't be fooled though because it really doesn't taste as good as it looks. It's such a hit and miss with their flavours, some of their cakes taste ok at first but after a while you'd get a taste that's either sickly sweet or disappointingly bland, some even tastes bitter or sour in an unflattering way.
The prices are along the same price range as Milse, but compared to OKO, I don't mind paying a lot at Milse โ€”I find their desserts way more satisfying and worth it than OKO's desserts.
Their order-taking system is quite confusing too, customers can either go directly to the counter or the staff could go to your tables and take your order from there. Be careful because you might forget to pay! Haha That aside, it was still an enjoyable experience for me, the ambiance of the place is quite nice and staff are very friendly.

I feared OKO was going to be another overhyped place as many have said so in reviews below but was surprised at how it exceeded my expectations. It appears that it's either a love or hate, depending on how you rate Milse. Personally, I prefer OKO over Milse as I feel OKO's desserts have stronger flavour and more surprise elements. The prices are also quite reasonable too- the hot chocolate was the the same price as normal cafes, only it had a much cooler presentation and made of real chocolate! The tiramisu was my favourite- great textures throughout the whole cake without being overly sweet, and The Volcano was a bit tough to cut through but beautifully prepared all the same.

Went there tonight after dinner, nothing to fancy about this place. The desserts was average/below average. I had their signature hot chocolate which was a flop it tasted so bad (the milk was off) possibly so I only had a sip. I also tried a dessert "blossom" it was too sour and just didn't taste good.

Amazing presentation, dessert was flawless and exceeded my expectations! My cousin and I were very satisfied with out woody nuts dessert and oko berry special! Just a bit intimidation and odd that the staff stated a lot lol

We had tried volcano and chaff note, they both taste good, especially, volcano one is amazing. There are also have some cake , they looks good.

OKOย is aย relatively newly established dessertย restaurantย with great decor and delicious sweets. However, my experience here has never been the perfect of experiences. Firstly, the lava fountain dessert costing almost $20 was simply a bit of chocolate with canned fruits. The dessert itself is extremely pleasing to the eye, just like all the desserts there, but is a bit too sweet and a bit over charged. The tables were a bit messy when we arrived and considering that it wasnt a busy hour, cleaning could have been done more efficiently. Ok to visit here a couple of times but hard seeing me as a regular.
Sweet Mama M
We arrived at OKO to find a quieter spot to chat after having dinner in the excessively loud Elliot Stables. As a larger group of seven they were unable to find a table for us inside and we ended up moving things round outdoors to suit ourselves. The outdoor area is relatively sheltered and heated during winter thanks to plastic windguards and outdoor heaters so it was doable.

The waitress that took our orders was friendly but didn't seem to have the substantive knowledge of products that we've come to expect from the upscale dessert bars around the city. When asked about recommendations for the sorbet smoothie she simply pointed out all the sorbet options on the ice cream menu. On the other hand, the ability of the chefs to create good looking deserts in a limited amount of time was worth acknowledging also.

The food, while none of it appalling, was a bit of a mixed bag. Those of our group that got the Volcano were by and large fans of it, although one felt the use of berries had been a little heavy-handed. The Calligraphy was very rich but very tasty and a good blend of flavours. The hot chocolate was adorably served but lacked the real sugary pow that one would expect from a dessert drink. The smoothie was sadly bland and even the appearance was lacking.

Is OKO bad? Definitely not. It was a perfectly adequate dessert dining experience. But in a CBD market where you are competing with the likes of Giapo and Milse, you can't afford to just be average - you need to be be exceptional.

Oko had quite a variety of sweets; cabinets were full of cakes, Movenpick ice creams which you can choose for your drinks and handmade chocolates.

The desserts dont only look good but it tasted amazing, great experience!!

The staff are very friendly and very informative.

Amongst the 3 of us we tried 3 different cakes from the cabinet along with cocktails.

We wanted to order something from the dine in menu but unfortunately the chef had closed the kitchen at 10pm.

Would definitely fo back again to try something from the dine in menu.

I've been to OKO several times and my experiences with them really varied from times to times. The first time I was there we got seated down to a table and; since it was our first time there we weren't sure if someone was going to come and take our order or if we were meant to come to the counter. After reading some of the reviews on Zomato I can see that a lot of other customers are quite confused as well on that topic. At OKO you can pay while ordering or after you have finished which is one of the reasons why they should get their system sorted out. Usually if you can pay later then it makes sense that the customers should get their ordered taken from the table.

Service was very relaxed the ambience was very fun. Maybe a bit too relaxed in my opinion... Our group actually stood up and left to the movies and realized 10 minutes later that none of us had paid, we came back straight away to do so and apologized but the waitress didn't even seem to know that we didn't pay and was very baffled. Of course not paying was completely our fault but we just think that being more attentive can't hurt.

Anyhow the desserts were very delectable and while some may comment on how overpriced they are I believe OKO is actually very moderately priced. The hot chocolate, although being interesting and fun with everything coming out separately, is not the nicest hot chocolate I've ever had.

The third time I was there we learnt from our mistakes and just to be safe we ordered from the counter straight away and we had a very pleasant experience. The staff there have always been very polite and nice and if you have any questions for them they are very informative.

Came here with a few friends after all the hype.

It was pretty good and having Movenpick ice cream available was a good idea. The red OKO cake was really yummy!

OKO was overhyped for me. We were greeted by a nice waitress in the beginning and directed to seats outside. Waited for about 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order, and we were unsure if we were meant to go up to the counter and order??? The people on the table next to us were obviously waiting a long time as well, and they ended up ordering at the counter because they couldn't be bothered waiting for someone to come. A waitress finally came outside, but to clean the tables. I had to wave her over to get her to come take our order.

I had a diced mango pudding with cream wrapped inside caramelized crepes. My friend got "woody nuts" a chocolate hazelnut dessert which ended up being overly sweet. We both got the signature hot chocolate. When it came out, we were both so excited! it came with a jar with some chocolate shavings, chocolate syrup and hot milk. You get to mix it yourself! But the end result didn't taste good at all. It actually tasted like milk and chocolate syrup. it wasn't sweet enough, tasted quite bland. We were both disappointed.

My dessert was nice, but I don't think I'll be coming back soon. All the desserts were very nicely presented though, I'll give them that! Paid $17 each for a dessert and the hot chocolate. Quite pricy for what it really is.

Had an iced chocolate here on Friday night was really good. They have very friendly staff and their cabinet looks amazing. Will be back to try some treats soon.
Lauren
I don't know what all the hype was about.
We were greeted by a friendly waiter but as soon as he seated us with menus, we were left waiting for someone to take an order for over 20min - we decided to just go and order at the counter ourselves. The coffee was very weak and barely had any taste other than milk, while the desserts were overpoweringly sweet to the point where you can't finish it (despite how small it is). We were not happy with what we got considering how pricy their drinks and desserts are.
CCC.YY
Yum yum cakes but the drinks are not as good, really flat taste, both the ice chocolate and the hot chocolate. And the macarons are just macaron shaped chocolates, VERY sweet!
Aucklandholic
Located on Aotea Square is the newest addition to Aucklandโ€™s dessert scene, OKO. From the owners of the cityโ€™s Movenpick ice cream cafes, OKO is their take on the lucrative premium dessert market and unsubtly, their answer to Milse. Also specialising in the super gourmet, the new eateryโ€™s offering is remarkably similar, from the designs of the cakes, the prices and even the ambiance.
Whilst OKO dessert cakes look the part, the taste is still a tad underwhelming. My friends and I had their roundish fruit mousse cake and it was not as delicately flavoured as Milseโ€™s equivalent nor was the texture as refined (update: on a subsequent visit, this was improved). Also, whilst the garnishes certainly made each cake more pretty, it seems to be more for show and doesnโ€™t always compliment the main event that well. This is again in contrast with Milse in which the garnish actually pronounces the main flavours of each cake. The ice creams are from Movenpick, so no complaints there, but it also is starting to be outshone by gelato specialty shops around Auckland.ย
The OKO decor is nice, with a open kitchen concept where you can see new desserts freshly created by their chefs. There are just some small details that needs to be refined and some inevitably probably out of their control. Service in general is friendly and attentive too.

Overall, OKO is full of potential and with a few changes can definitely give Milse a run for their money. They need to take extra care in the maintenance of their store, maybe invest a little more in their outdoor space and further develop their staff. Also, OKO will benefit from working closely with their chefs to continue refining their desserts and make truly unique creations that not only look good, but also taste out-of-this-world amazing.

It's a best dessert I ever had.good customer service .
We set there only for 5 min and our dessert is ready.best place for taking your date there.

I have seen this dessert store all over the social media which attracted me visit the place. When I visited,it was busy and fully packed on the weekend. The customer services were helpful and good ย but the desserts didnt taste as good as it looks. ย I ย have the oko cabinet cake( heart shaped) ย which I thought ย it tasted pretty bland (not flavourful). So I personally do not think that it worth the money for the taste and its small portion. ย However the presentation was on point and I would recommend the volcano/ball shaped dessert (the image below). Overall, I have ย an average and disappointing experience as it didn't meet my expectations.

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while, and to be completely honest it wasn't close to what I expected. Yes, it's a cool concept - Auckland needs more dessert options! Yes, it's awesome to watch them prepare your dish. Yes, the dishes are presented beautifully. But the flavours are a let down. If you're going to charge milse prices, is it wrong of me to want milse quality?

That aside, I still enjoyed the experience. It's still an option for coffees and movenpick icecream. Clean and minimalistic decor. Great service too!

Top dessert place I've been to thus far :D
Very accommodating waitresses and the selection of desserts are amazing. Highly HIGHLY recommend :)

This place is at the top of my books when it comes to fine desserts, Small and quaint, its truly a place to visit when you want to impress someone special. Been here over Christmas, as it was recommended by a mate and i hav'nt stopped going back. Cheers guys and looking forward to seeing some more of your creations.

Found this place by chance when I was flicking through the AIRNZ Kia Ora magazine as I was flying between Wellington and Auckland. ย Yes I must say, advertisement in this magazine really works, Even I visited somewhere that was being advertised.

What drew me to this place was the usual desserts, which looked more like pieces of art that was edible. ย What more could you have asked for.

Oko Dessert Kitchen offers more than just dessert off the menu but also cakes, and something more savoury for those of you who have partners or friends who prefer the sweet stuff, while you much rather enjoy something savoury.

Movenpick ice cream is used here, so you can be rest assured that the ice cream will be of good, creamy top quality ice cream.

Please check out my website for an indepth review of my dessert.

Been hearing lots about this place so had to go check it out myself. This is such a nice place! There is indoor and outdoor seating available and I adore the clean interior. We ordered 3 things off their "cabinet cakes" menu and they tasted delicious. I would highly recommend "oko" which is the heart shaped one :) I guess the cakes are abit small for the price they are at, but I think it's worth it because you're not going to be eating stuff like this everyday. I would definitely go back just to try out the rest of their menu!

Cute little dessert place with lots of pretty desserts. I got a cake which was off the menu which was really nice and easy too eat, not too sweet either. My friend got one from the menu and it was alright. Would've loved to try the other desserts but they were quite expensive.

The desserts were cute and really easy to eat but I thought were a bit pricy for what you got - only slightly above average tasting. But I like the location.

First time eating here and it was nice! The lovely lady serving us was super polite and attentive.
Ordered the signature Oko with Mรถvenpick ice cream as a combo for $13.50. Oko was light and fluffy very summery but my cousin had the quadruple choc which was much tastier and I'd order that next time.

Perfect for intimate catch ups!

Food: Very pretty desserts. Not all flavours suit my taste but the ones that I liked were all really delicious. I really recommend the #tiramisu. The green tea mousse #volcano was a little not to my liking, but my friend loved it.

Next-time I will try: Ice mocha or affogato. I was too full to order it this time around! ><

Service: Very friendly waitresses. All very pretty as well! Haha.

Decor and atmosphere: Modern, relaxed.

I must say, I am very glad that OKO has opened in town, we need more competition around as there arrn't too many places that specialise in sweet yums.

Tried both their cabinet and dine-in menu. Cakes on the cabinet display were very pretty looking, but didn't really have the 'wow' factor when it came to taste. The dine-in selection though, that is completely different. Not only was every plate beautifully and artistically presented, but they tasted amazing!

Synonymous with it's title, OKO's desserts are pretty much OK. I almost think they're designed for the eyes instead of the stomach. Vibrantly coloured and presented exquisitely with the liquid nitrogen party trick, the chocolate ballon looks damn cool. However on first bite I could immediately taste the averageness of it all. The alty green chocolate balloon was yum but the interior was a weird sour goo haven with an odd mix of fruits, licorice and chocolate syrup while the exterior sponge cake lacked substance and flavour. For $17.50 I would except more (or a discount). The rest of the menu offers a large range of delicious looking other desserts, cabinet cakes, chocolate bonbons, Movenpick ice cream and drinks; their signature hot choc is pretty good. The interior is cosy but lacking in finesse while service is fine. Kinda reminds me of a tacky Milse without the wait.

Follow adl_taste_akl on Instagram for more reviews around Auckland!

I love desserts and was dying to try out this place. I finally got to go here couple of days ago and would say 3 stars is really all that it deserves or less even. They do have a great variety of desserts but overall the dishes are pretty below average for the price they charge and lets just say they really do need to properly train their waiter/waitresses up.ย

So overall, not worth the hype. Don't get too excited before going here as you will get totally let down when you taste the food. But if its late and need some sugar with your friends, yeah you can go here as they open till late. But overall, a big meh from me.

After a wholesome dinner, we decided to go for some dessert somewhere along queenstreet. As I have been hearing alot about OKO for the past two weeks, I decided to give it a go.
We were quite full to try their dessert menu. Therefore, I got a pastry, the almond croissant and my friend got the tiramisu that was on display. The almond croissant was a lil soft but tasted okay. However I have tried way better almond croissants. My friend's tiramisu was not too bad, it was not too sweet which was good. As a whole the cake and the presentation was good but it was lacking a lil on the tiramisu flavour.
The staffs were welcoming and friendly too. An added advantage is they are open till quite late.
I would probably return to try their dessert menu even though it seems a little pricey. In my opinion, the ones we tried were lacking on the 'wow that is amazing' feeling, you know that feeling when you get when you eat desserts.

Best known for my appetite for desserts, I finally got the chance to visit OKO Dessert Kitchen to test out whether their desserts are as amazing as they look! Conveniently in Auckland CBD just downstairs from the Imax Cinema complex, I was glad for something that was open each day from 8am to 11pm

Itโ€™s a mix between an ice cream parlour and a dedicated dessert restaurant like Milse. Fortunately unlike Milse, there wasnโ€™t a 30min cue to get a table.

There are plenty of desserts in the cabinet to choose from but you also have the choice of an a la carte menu. So many choices that youโ€™ll be faced with the dreaded first world problem of not knowing what to order.

For those going with less eager sweet tooths, there are a few savoury items next to the Movenpick ice cream range.

Between 3 friends we ordered a dessert each to try out. Each looked exquisite with the different layers of promised dessert goodness and adorned with gold flakes and crumbles. Cue my excitedness. When we finally got over how gorgeous it looked on the plate, it was time to put it to the test.

Each layer was densely packed and very rich so Iโ€™d recommend ordering tea to go along with it. It was tasty but no surprises with the taste. I would have liked to have different textures for the different layers โ€“ something a bit lighter like wafer to break up the density and richness.

The favourite of the three goes to the Tiramisu. Deceivingly soft looking on the outside, you crack the shell open to reveal the soft texture of whipped mascarpone. While the freeze dried fruits added nothing but extra colour at the top, I preferred the humble sweetness of the Tiramisu compared to the others.

Iโ€™d like to come back to try the cocktails. The list looked enticing and I hope theyโ€™re not washed down versions of what is promised. The a la carte menu is also something to try as an after dinner treat, but if you like to see what youโ€™re going to get, the cabinet desserts are enough to choose from.

I was thrilled to find OKO Dessert Kitchen by Aotea Square, a mere stone's throw from the university - would this turn out to be the next Milse? The name did strike me as rather strange, but that was forgotten as soon as I set foot in the shop, for I was then hopelessly distracted by the glorious sight of rows of desserts in glass-paned cabinets.

Their menu is fairly extensive, detailing not only the desserts on display in the glass cabinets, but also a custom dessert menu similar to what you might find in fine dining restaurants, and a list of beverages and ice creams. Their ice creams are all Movenpick, and you can have them either in standard form (cone or cup) or as part of beverages - I would not recommend the former, as you would get the same at Movenpick's own stores for a much cheaper price.

The beverages looked mighty interesting, especially the sweet cocktails, but my partner finally opted for an OKO milkshake ($8.50) - you pick two Movenpick flavours and they blend it into the milkshake for you. I had one of the cabinet desserts, titled 'Forest' ($8.50), which consisted of a mini chocolate sponge cake covered with chocolate flakes, with layers of chantilly kirsch cream and cherries within. I quite liked my dessert, which I found to be a refreshing take on the standard blackforest cake, and the layers of cream and liquer within the sponge was a tantalizing treat for the tastebuds. However, the milkshake I found to be far too rich for my tastes.

So, is OKO truly the next Milse? Sadly, no. It seems to be more expensive than Milse, and its creations do not appear to have the same 'wow!' factor. However, it would be unfair to compare everyone to Milse, and I think OKO is decent and worth a visit in its own right. At the very least, here you can get a table for two on a Saturday night for a nice after-dinner dessert, without having to go on a one-hour waitlist.

Side note: they don't allow photography of the desserts in the display cabinets, it seems. I took a few photos of those before I was informed of that, but did not upload them as per their request. This seems very odd to me though, as surely photos would only benefit them by increasing publicity.

Really looking forward to try this new shop out.But their dessert is a bit let down in my opinion.I ordered t'ramisu,it tastes a bit lame, the shape looks really cool though. It's a white chocolate cube filled with mascarpone cream and cake in the centre. For me personally I think the mascarpone cream was a little thin.I forgot the name of the other dessert I ordered, it was just too sweet for me, I could not finish it.

I start thinking, are these pretty little desserts only designed for our eyes?

My husband said he likes their interior, I felt it was okay. Their service was good.

Personally I think It's just a place lack of the 'wow' factor.

Service was very friendly but many different servers meant some confusion ensued! However, the recommendation of the chef's note was good, the dessert was delicious (but fairly small if you are wanting to binge). The flavours were amazing and we were happy sharing a portion. The Paris tea is delicious. A little chilly outside even under heaters but overall we really enjoyed the experience.

I've tried oko three times now and have only received (average) service once! The first time I went in we stood there waiting for them to take our order for about 5mins. They weren't even busy and all we wanted was some ice cream! Terrible! All the waitress was doing was pouring water for some customers who were busy looking at the menu and then chat with the pastry chefs. We were so annoyed that we left. The second time was ok and we managed to get some service, ย unfortunately, the signature hot chocolate was truly underwhelming although we did for 5 seconds enjoy the gimmick of mixing your own hot chocolate. The third time we attempted to try oko my friends were after a hot chocolate but they had no chocolate left! Not much use in having a dessert kitchen when you have no chocolate left! It wasn't even that late in the evening. We left again. We will definitely not be returning! Milse is far superior in service and product anyhow! I'd say the only thing I like about oko is its location.

The shop definitely have the "Milse" look and feel. But if you are wanting to go there because you thought it would be a "Mini Milse", I would suggest you go somewhere else.
The "Signature Hot Chocolate" is below average. They can actually be a little more generous on the chocolate... The iced/hot chocolate from "The Shelf" is a lot better.
Giving it a 2.5 star because the desserts were nice. Looked nice.

I went in to buy Movenpick ice-cream thinking it would be exactly the same as the Movenpick store thats further downtown. 1 scoop of cappuccino Movenpick ice-cream with a waffle cone costs $7.20. The amount of ice-cream you go was the tiniest scoop of ice-cream I have ever seen for $7.20, you get about 50% more at the actual Movenpick store than at this place. For the price you're paying you are not getting anything, you're better off buying a whole tub at the supermarket. The service was bad, the server doesnt even give you tissues with the icecream. I will never come back, I'd rather walk an extra 10 minutes to get Movenpick ice-cream form the actual store than come here. I know that it's more about the quality than quantity of ice-cream but for a scoop that was less than 50grams, it is not worth it.

Think Milse in a smaller scale. They have desserts, premium handmade chocolates, danish/muffin and a complete range of movenpick ice cream. For drinks they have coffee to smoothies made with your choice of movenpick ice cream to cocktails and wine.

So I'd say it's a place where u get a bit of everything.

We tried the mini cabinet desserts and thought they were good. The flavors are quite Asian inspired and not the boring usual ones you find in desserts. Eg: green tea, black sesame, coconut, chestnut. And they do blend well with our all time favorites like cheesecake and berries!

Has outdoor seating and minimal
indoor seating, nice and quiet environment for a catch up with friends. The lady that served us was very friendly and helpful as well :):)

Seems like an excellent little dessert restaurant with unexpected flare; could rival Milse for best in central Auckland.
