Review Bird On A Wire - Auckland Central

Portion is bigger than expected , food is nice. Many birds flying around (beware) šŸ„° staff is friendly, thank you for the food and recommended for those who come to Posonby šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ„°

Korean chicken with slaw and chips (26) and Sprite (5). Overall food was fine. Chicken inside was a bit dry but the sauce made it. Chips were cooked well. Slaw was amazing. Good portion size for price. The only reason why itā€™s not 5 stars is because of the sprite. You get it in a glass and I believe is from the tap which makes it taste flat and watered down. Good service though wait time was around 30-40 minutes long on a Thursday lunch.

We were served by Cande. She was very welcoming and kind while our meals were going. Their foods and services were all good and my children especially enjoyed their meals. We will come back there again. Thank you!

Wow! the food is to die for. They also supply vegetarian options tĆ²o. The customer service is also very good. Thanks team @bird on a wire

The cauliflower dish was great and Iā€™m very happy that the vegan dishes were labeled correctly. Serving size average. Flavour good. Priced $$. They ran out of tofu and vegan buns so I had to change my order but the chef was super nice about it and gave us complementary fries. Canā€™t complain that it came with mayo on the side though. Overall good experience.

I come here quite often for their roasted chicken; although they have other items on the menu, their roast chicken is as good as it gets. However this time, I came to try their Buffalo Chicken Burger with Blue Cheese Mayo. The chicken is fried with a spicy buffalo sauce and mayo. The chips are nice and fresh. As an Asian who loves his food spicy, i thought it was a tad too spicy. But otherwise, one of the best chicken burgers around although the price is a bit high for it.

I love Bird on a Wire ā€“ everything about it. Well partly because for a non-pig eater it is sometimes difficult to find the variety of food I can get from here. When I asked for a Pate ā€“ it is often mixed with pork; and many places do not have an alternative for non-pork eaters. The only two Bird on a Wire I have been are the Ponsonby Central and Orakei Market ones. I first came about the Ponsonby Central ones and have always loved the space. It is an open space with comfortable chairs and free Wi-Fi. A fantastic place to meet and greet other people. Everyone must order the rotisserie, no questions asked. The staple of the restaurant, the thing you must order, either with salads or on its own. One day, I must order one just for a takeout. That is not to say the rest are not interesting. The sandwiches and burgers are just as good. They are refreshing alternative to a roast chicken dinner. If you wonder how many ways they can cook chicken ā€“ Bird on a Wire has the perfect example! #WinnerWinnerChickenDinner

There's something about a good roast chicken - there's always a place for it with me... Just hits the spot! We tried the for one meal and the chicken sandwich - I think the for one meal is the iconic meal while the sandwich, good, is messy to eat. The pie was also delectable!

Had the OG Fried Chicken and a Strawberry Smoothie. The OG fried chicken had a decent serving size and was pretty tasty, but it would have nice to have a bit more sauce as it can get a bit dry without it. The Strawberry Smoothie was okay but quite watery for my liking.

Great spot in Ponsonby Central. Delicious brunch. The chicken and waffles was delicious, coffee was incredible and the BLT burger special was also a major hit! Great service and great food! šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ˜‹

Great customer service! Felt welcomed the moment we sat down at our tables. Great food, comfortable and great atmosphere! Definitely a favourite new spot

Very good Korean flavor chicken burger . Crunchy chicken and also juicy, delicious , with some kimchi, nice

Had an excellent lunch with the family at Bird on a wire in Ponsonby Grand Central. Team member Candelaria was very helpful in explaining their new ordering system and always has a smile when approaching customers.

Latte art was terrible... I was surprised it can be served to customer with this terrible latte art in this good cafe...um, i was a little bit disappointed.

management should stop trying to save money by overworking one server. Even our food got cold waiting for her to collect it. Staff aren't to blame; it was obvious they were trying but we saw two tables get sick of waiting and walk out of Newmarket store. Orakei basin is similar.

Nice place for Brunch on weekend!!

Located in the buoyant Ponsonby Central, if you drop in at the right time of day you'll find yourself engulfed in the aroma of every type of food you can imagine, coming here is like walking through heaven's gates for me. I'd had coffee & various slices here before but never sat down to consume a proper meal until now. The "Bird On A Waffle" was bloody delicious - every element of the dish was bang on and for what it's worth, I'd almost call it a steal. Would I get it again? Yes....Yes I would. 4ā˜†

Really disappointing. The price vs the value of the meals is off. We ate in and sat down the table was really dirty, we were offer no water and had to ask twice, the bread ordered was advertised warm and came cold so asked if it could be warmed and it took 15mins and there was only another couple sitting down in the restaurant. Really sad used to love the saladā€™s here but the quality has dropped.

I found a bug, like a small cockroach-looking thing in my baguette, deep in the middle of it so I was unable to finish it because..gross. I contacted the store through the website but they only responded with ā€œthat happens sometimesā€. I wasnā€™t offered any kind of refund which was kind of insulting. Used to order these sometimes but wonā€™t be returning.

Went here for dinner.. Asked for half lemonade half raspberry to drink.. Not sure what it was?šŸ¤” Kind of tasted like lemonade. Had chicken parmigiana with slaw and fries.. Fries were cold. Not sure why? Must of been sitting there awhile... Staff seemed quite nice.

The chicken from this place was so good that I didn't put myself to taking a photo.

Staff were friendly too :) would love to return to try more food.
Girl On The Move
Nice to come here with a group of people or after work. The chicken is cooked fresh. Great variety of food including burgers and vegetarian options. My only concern is that the salads are always loaded with carbs. What's the point of having the healthy option if it isn't that healthy.
Crackerjacker
Had a nice experience here for dinner. Itā€™s nice and cheap for the quality and amount of food you get. Got the fried chicken burger and it was good porn when squashed cause the egg yolk dribbled down. Great fries too. Staff were friendly however it did take about 30min before someone came over to take our order

Order this on Uber eats all the time. Been in store many times too. They definitely know how to make chicken tasty. Their salads are amazing too.

Weā€™ve been wanting to try this place for the longest time but every time we have a chance to do so something crops up not until now. We have friends to told us to try this place, we even met someone who worked as a chef here and most of them told some good stories about this place and that what we are going to find out.

The chicken was cooked beautifully and the salad was delicious šŸ˜‹
Highly recommended and definitely will be returning to try out other items on the menu.

Food 4/5
Ambience 4/5
Service 4/5
I've been to the other two branches so I already knew what to expect for food and was delicious as usual.
Food -Ā I ordered the Medium Salad with Chicken.Ā

Highly recommend the beetroot and carrot salad which has a maple vinaigrette & cabbage ponzu salad! They both use lighter dressings compared to the other ones so you don't feel heavy afterwards. The chicken was spot on, perfectly cooked and no dry pieces.
My friend got the $18 meal that comes with 1/4chicken, medium salad & baguette. Only critique is that the orzo pasta salad she had was bland.

Service - As soon as we sat down the waiter brought over some water for the table and removed plates when finished. Overall friendly and attentive :)

Just love Bird on Wire, everything is just so great. We usually buy the family feed set meal. Whole juicy succulent chicken with healthy and tasty salads, bread rolls and potatoes. Plenty for a family of four and leftovers the next day. Wish they do bigger gravy size!!
Alex Devereux
Had an unfortunate experience with Bird On A Wire via Uber Eats. The salad looked and tasted like it had been sitting out all day and the chicken was cold and stiff and we both felt quite ill after eating.
Ivan
Super friendly staff, great ambiance, very trendy and the food was delightful. The costs were very affordable for the amount of food you get. I would recommend this place again
Lana Hunter
Itā€™s an expensive sandwich but the Banh Mi is pretty good.
Perhaps not what youā€™d call ā€œauthenticā€ but tasty and satisfying.
It was a long time between visits but their fries also used to be pretty good, so maybe worth a try.
That said, they too are now pretty pricey.
Meghan Kerr-Phillips
This place has extremely succulent chicken, not one bite of it was dry. We each had their current special, the katsubi burger which really was delishious. The staff were very professional, polite and efficient.

A couple of years ago the food and service was excellent. How times have changed. Uber small portions, poor service and scruffy environment. Also they have put up their prices. What a shame.

We got takeout from here and the food was quite tasty however for the price and portion size I would say that it's not really worth it. We got the $60 package, which had 2 salads, a baguette and a whole chicken. This is meant to feed 4 people, but its probably closer to 2 hungry adults. Also to add any sauce/flavouring to the chicken you had to pay extra (approx $3-$4) which isn't a lot, but it just ramps up the the cost a little.

After reading reviews of this place, we decided to drive here and check this place out as we were near by. We managed to get a table on a busy Saturday with no wait but overall we were disappointed with the food.

My chicken and falafel wrap was dry and lacked flavour. I have no idea why they would put rice in it! It would have been tastier if they put their coleslaw inside to give it more freshness and texture. My husbands buttermilk fried chicken was not bad with their two sauces but we have had better. My sons chicken slider was tiny! If he was any older that would not be enough as itā€™s the smallest bun with a small serve of chips and coleslaw. We also got a side of their beer batter chips which was again a small portion for $8. I was definitely disappointed with my lunch.

We've been here twice. The first time was early evening, family of four. Everyone served promptly and only mistake made was chicken instead of tofu in one of burgers. But all in all a yummy pleasant experience.
Tonight we came as a group of 9, with a reservation. Table was ready. We ordered chips to share, which took 20 minutes to prepare which seemed like an eternity to wait, but they were yummy, so all was forgotten. Mains appeared slowly. Two people were served 5 mins after we placed our order, then 1 more plate, along with our salads for the table to share, then another 3 plates, then another 3 plates. So the first 3 people were finished eating long before the last 6 people which was a bit awkward. Maybe some room for improvement there? But having said that, all plates were left empty, bill was reasonable and all waitstaff encountered were friendly and enthusiastic. Will definitely return.

All about Chicken! If you're a chicken lover this the place to go.
I suggest the rotisserie and the schnitzel.
Very simple place with a friendly staff in the heart of Ponsonby

The chicken and salad is so good. Perfect dish n portion for sharing too.

The hot chocolate with brownies n marshmallow on the sides is a 10/10 šŸ¤—šŸ¤—šŸ¤—

Service is exceptional from everyone and a great place for a group dinner for 8 people.

We ordered here tonight for dinner via UberEats, and we were left checking our fridge for more food to eat. We got the rotisserie chicken with truffle butter sauce, and the for one meal with Japanese salad. When it arrived, we already noticed the bottom of the bag a bit wet, and when we put out the food, all the sauce we're at the bottom of the bag, also on the other dish with the salad. Why would you put something with a sauce in a paper container knowing that it's for delivery??? The meal said it comes with a slice of baguette, but there was none. Salad was bland, almost like a carrots salad because all I tasted were carrots, chicken was dry, and the drink we ordered, the organic iced tea tasted like water, we cannot taste any tea in it or the flavor whatsoever. We spent money thinking that it would be good, but no. Never again, thanks for the experience.

Service friendly. Nice seating area.
Food slow coming out and coffee cold. Two out of two orders wrong. Getting it fixed took forever. Left at the end only having one meal.
Something changed here and itā€™s not better.

CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Went there for breakfast and enjoyed the fried chicken wrap and three cheese scone. Then hot chocolate was really strong if you are big hit chocolate fan give it a try! Service was quick and pretty good. On street parking is much cheaper than the parking out the back.

A cosy and tasty spot for dinner šŸ˜
A friend and I came here for a catch up dinner and we really enjoyed it! Service/staff were very kind and attentive, food was delish and atmosphere was cosy and intimate.
The menu has lots to choose from, so good for everyone, and the changing specials board makes it a good place to go back and try new menu items. The chicken is super tasty and juicy. The food came out pretty quick. The fire was lit which made it nice and toasty, and it wasnā€™t too loud which made it a great place for catch ups!
I will be returning šŸ˜Š

Was out for a late lunch, expected something nice and quick, but Bird On A Wire couldnā€™t deliver our expectations. Food was very average, wasnā€™t very impressed with the service either. Had to go and get the menus myself and had to try to get attention from staff after waiting for nearly half an hour just to place the order even though it wasnā€™t busy at all. Overall, very average food taste and extremely slow service.

This place probably specializes in chicken, however the salads are the best thing there I reckon! Ordered a large salad for $15 and could choose up to three delicious salads (I had a potato salad, Asian noodle salad with Aubergine and couscous and beetroot salad). So yum!

I went to this place on Sunday night for dinner around 8pm, and ended up with food poisoning around midnight, with 7x vomitting, eventually ending up in ED. The food was delicious but I cannot say I trust the hygiene here, and will not be returning.

Bird on a Wire is absolutely fantastic for chicken! The burgers were to die for, succulent chicken and the balance between the pesto and peppers really gave a good juiciness to the burger. I really loved the raw veg salad, it had a perfect amount of a sweet and savory dressing. If Iā€™m honest, the potato salad was really lackluster, it had no flavor whatsoever and was extremely bland, the chips were soggy and not crunchy (which is not what you want from beer batter chips). The hot wing sauce was so amazing, however the wings themselves were okay, like you want more meat on your wings and the drumettes were really tough. Overall I enjoyed my experience everything was freshly made, and the service was exceptional. If ya love chicken (as much as I do) then this place is a must visit! Itā€™s also great if youā€™re trying to eat healthy.

3.5

Decided to check out bird on a wire as I have heard so much hype over it.
The food was okay, I didnā€™t enjoy the Bombay potato salad it was actually really tasteless, the other salad raw vegetables salad was great tho! Really really crispy and great dressing.
Honestly the hot wings were a miss, it seems there is a hot sauce that is drizzled over the chicken, not marinated, though the sauce was delicious the chicken on the inside was bland.
Both burgers were amazing! I had the Korean fried burger and my friend got the burger of the day.

10/10 for staff and service! We had a lovely lady checking in on us.

The food was alright but nothing amazing, I ordered the butter milk fried chicken with summer salad while my husband ordered the Korean BBQ baguette. The service we received that day was horrible, we ended up leading ourselves to our own table and getting our own utensils and water whilst watching other customers get served. One of the waiting staff also delivered my salad on the table in a "tossing" manner, he tossed my salad plate on the table and left. Felt very unwelcomed in this place and won't be coming back for that very reason.

Found this place while wandering around and thought wed give it a go. The food was exceptional, although we were waiting for quite a while to be served.

Visited last weekend with friends, enjoyed the korean bbq burger and wings. But the the chicken was bit dry.rest wverything is awsome.will surely recommend and come back with my family and kids

Beautiful chicken special roll.
Pleasant and informative staff.
Good coffee and relaxed atmosphere.
Roll is great value for money. Havenā€™t tried anything else yet to be more informative.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Only issue was that there wasnā€™t enough seating space. I had the Korean bbq baguette and it was delicious. Would definitely also recommend the beetroot kombucha šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼

This review is purely based on food and service not the restaurant ambiance as I have only ordered via UberEATS. We ordered a chicken dinner for two and added the fries and thank god we did because they forgot to put the bread in bag so if we hadnā€™t ordered them we would have only had half a (small) chicken and salad. The fries were also about a third empty which happens every time we order. I called to let them know and it seemed to be taken seriously with apologies and the promise to email me a voucher after the manager had reviewed what went wrong. I was told the fries just fall out because they canā€™t close the box, well there were no loose fries in the bag and really if this is an issue then maybe use a bigger box? No one wants cold fries. Nothing arrived in my inbox so not sure what happened to the review but itā€™s the last order we will make. On the good side I love their salads and the chicken is delicious, particularly the Korean bbq sauce.

Oh dear. What changed!? Salads with no flavour and the youngsters behind the counter were in chaos. They definitely need a new system to ensure customers get served in a reasonable timeframe. All they have to do is plate up!

Previous review: An immensely patient and delightful young woman served us, the salads were delicious and the chicken tender, if a little too salty. Even though we had takeaway to speed our order through, (we were off to a play and running late) The young woman brought us water and glasses. We will definitely go again.
Vivian Lee
Poor service, staff ignoring customers on purpose. Didnā€™t take order properly and one of the drinks never came. At first we thought they were busy, but even later on when people began to leave they still avoided making eye contact. Very disappointing and will not ever visit again.

Stumbled across this place and decided to have a bite to eat. Its in quite a busy place so there is a fair bit of noise. The seating is also very close together. We were served and seated promptly. Staff were friendly and weren't too overbearing. I ordered the special burger, fried chicken with pineapple slaw I think. My friends ordered the Korean BBQ burger and the toasted sandwich. I think the presentation of the food is great, even with it being a messy burger. I quite enjoyed mine, bun was soft, chicken was crispy and the slaw had good flavour.

I would definitely recommend and would visit again šŸ˜Š

Food was pretty good. The burger looked pretty epic and was well presented. However, I have to say the highlight of the meal was the chips.

The chips were perfection. Crispy coating on the outside and fluffy potato on the inside, married with a creamy dip.
Aleana Fernando
The food is very affordable and gives you a generous amount.
One of the best roast chickens you can get, even their chicken breast isnā€™t dry.
Salads are light and refreshing.
The fried korean bird burger was super delicious, it was quite difficult to eat since itā€™s quite a full-on burger.
Would definitely come back here to try more of their items

Rocked up with a friend for some lunch. The waitress showed us our table and she went off to get some water. When she brought it over to our table, she put the water down and left without offering help or explaining the specials (other tables had water poured for them and the menu explained).
So we waited, and waited, and waited then eventually after 17 minutes of sitting there with just water the waitress finally came over to our table to take our order. The waitress expressed that she had simply forgotten about us and that she was very sorry, which is not very good considering the restaurant was less that half full..
When the food arrived were given some extra free chips to make up for wait, this was a nice touch but feel this was a little bit too late. When the food arrived it was good but I expected a lot more for the price, I didn't feel it was worth it at $45 for 2 baguette's, 1 beer and chips.

Such a shame as I was recommended to come and try this place out but left very disappointed.

Yummy food. Brought the buttermilk chicken wrap, last time we came it had bacon but since has been changed to Choritzo . Defs prefer the bacon as it goes well. The scone is Devine, love the texture and the flavours mmmm 3cheese. Beautiful organic coffee too.

Went here this Sunday with my friend and ordered fried bird burger, chicken and fries as side to share. The portion is good for all dishes and the chicken is cooked pretty well but just around average. For the sauce with chicken, I wouldn't recommend the garlic one as it is a little bit too greasy for us but overall, the food is good and you can tell the freshness of their fine ingredients. Very friendly staffs btw :)

Right in Ponsonby central is another of Urban Lists recommended food places. The waitress/waiters here aren't overtly friendly but that's okay.
The fat fries were delicious as well as the sauce that was paired with them.
Both the baguette sandwiches were well worth. It was a bit difficult cutting through the baguette and a little bit messy to eat. I managed to drop some sauce on my white dress. But no harm done.
Love this place!!! The chicken is always succulent and the salads are always different and tasty. Sometimes the salads can be too saucy but 95% of the time it's great!
I have visited both their outlets in Takapuna and Ponsonby.

Both the outlets have good service, however my personal favorite is Takapuna. The takapuna outlet has street style seating, excellent service and great staff interaction and lastly way less busier than Ponsonby (one in Ponsonby central)

I fancy there vast choices in salad and dressing... one of my favorite is curry dressing.

I once went with my partner he had their fried chicken... and he thoroughly savoured it. On my second visit my friend has a baguette and he loved it too.

And guess what they can do... whatever is in the menu can be prepared in vegetarian too. I found is simply amazing and appealing.

Georgia Vossen
Yum! Awesome menu. Free ranged chicken which is a massive plus! Large range of salads and different dishes, chicken is always optional so would be suitable for vegetarians. Located in Ponsonby central, so busy, classy vibe, very cool. Lots of seating. Great service, food just took a little while to come out as they were quite busy with what seemed one waiter. Also quite pricey, but really yummy.

Delicious fresh food. My husband had the breakfast plate and said it was the best he had ever had! I had yummy poached eggs with avocado and tomatoes. All just a bit different. Would recommend.

Came here for a quick stopover for something to eat, we didn't end up ordering any chicken (despite it being the main delicacy of Bird On A Wire), but we settled for 2 vegetarian meals.
The carrot dish was nice, the puree is citrusy and fancy, and carrots were soft, worked well with the feta.
The salad had crunchy bread chunks, pomegranate, potato and grapes, nice and light and fresh.
Will come back for chicken next time!

Went here for the first time with my wife, originally wanted to go to burger burger but they were packed so we thought we might give this place a try since we've been wanting to come here for a while too (excited). Firstly the person who was welcoming guests into the restaurant wasn't very friendly or warm but was polite enough, so we chose to sit at the back, the seating was informal and open, a bit dark but still comfortable all the same, we looked at the menu and the selection was decent, I was unsure about which dish to get as I was torn between the chicken burger or the quarter chicken with salad and bread, and so asked the waiter expert opinion of what was better? (Big mistake) He then suggested the burger so I was satisfied with the choice, the wife opted for a burger as well but the crunchy fried chicken which was different from mine. As we sat waiting for our food and drinks to arrive I went over to the front to get a menu so we could check out the desserts once more as we were keen to try something sweet afterwards, so after 5 minutes of looking at the menu and deciding on a dessert to share the waitress came over and asked us if we were done with the menu? Well I thought this was a bit rude and what if we were? They had a whole stack of them at the front!? Why would you want this one back???, the attitude and unfriendliness came through as if these people really couldn't be stuffed doing their jobs properly and making our time in their establishment memorable. What a shame. From there it went down hill. We got our food and drinks and I have to say the green smoothie I got wasn't anything special and sad to say I could do the same or better at home with less. You couldn't really taste any of the special ingredients in there (chia seeds, activated cashew, Brazil nuts, activated pumpkin, coconut water etc etc and the list goes on) as it all just tasted like a typical green smoothie. Our BURGERS were sooo sooo dry and they skimped hard on the lettuce and veg! Honestly this wasn't worth $16?! Excluding fries and sauce??? Which was an extra $8!! No way! Now I work as a chef in a cafe and for $18 you get a burger with fries and sauce and it's šŸ’Æ times better, tastier and juicier than this shit! I really couldn't believe I had just spent that much on shit food and service and average drinks. And to top it off the lemon pie we wanted to have for dessert was all out!? So we ended up leaving disappointed and dissatisfied, paying $45!!! For crap food and poor service. As we were paying this is when the waiter perked up (obviously happy to take my hard earned money), we ended up going to Frasiers in Mt Eden for desert and coffee and it made our night! So to sum up, don't waste your hard earned $$$ here people, sad service, shit food (recommended by waiter). I do not recommend going here at all. Better to spend your money in Mt Eden Village at any of the restaurants and cafes there, way better food and service or wait for a table at burger burger. Ironique has great burgers btw šŸ‘šŸ˜… I'm very surprised actually how these guys (bird on a wire) got 4.0 rating when they have these issues?!? Go figure šŸ˜’šŸ‘Ž

The 1.5 point is purely given to the name of the restaurant and the service. If I can rate this place minus I won't hesitate to do so.

This place is supposed to be experts in making chicken, but I rather pay $10 to get a supermarket roast chicken. We ordered the whole chicken with Jamaican jers, chicken schnitzel and chicken wings for main, all very disappointing.Ā

The chicken was tasteless and the so call sauce was burnt and blend. It's almost like chewing into cardboard. Even with the enhancement of chilli sauce, it's still barely eatable. Ā The chicken schnitzel was the most boring tasting tiny pieces of meat I've ever tasted. The BBQ wings were dry, uninspiring and once again tasteless. It's almost like a whole bunch of intermediate school kids having their first cooking experiement.Ā

For sides we ordered chicken fat roasted potatoes, chips and salads (which was forgotten). The potatoes were disgusting. The chicken fat tasted old and off and the potatoes are like left over ones and being reheated over and over again. The chips were so what cooked properly, but the dipping sauce was once again tasteless and confusing.Ā

We ordered the so-called "house" soda! WELL, it's like two spoons of concentrated lemon flavoured cordial mixing with water and a slice of lemon.Ā

You know what? I don't think I would like to return nor recommend this place to anyone.
Roni Ramone
I had the two salads medium size for $10, choosing the pasta salad and the potato salad. They were both very tasty and well made, and the vegetarian options were good. The service wasn't outstanding and the food wasn't much better than I could make myself, but it was a nice option to have when I wanted food in a pinch.

Went for a walk down Ponsonby Road and needed my afternoon caffeine fix. Went to another place for a coffee but they did not serve coffees after 5.00pm and recommended Bird on a Wire.

The coffee was great and the restaurant had really nice ambience, even though it was an open restaurant. They had lots of fresh organic chicked roasted but having had a late lunch I was too full to have an early dinner.

Would not mind coming back here and having a meal in the future.
Diogo Reck
I love chicken and here guys know how to keep it moist and tasty. Even the breast of the chicken was juicy, what a good surprise.

You can order your meal with a sauce and salad. I had with gravy, which had too much fat and a bit of starch/flour. Salad was ok.

Another good thing about the venue in Ponsonby Central is that they have plenty of seats, so chances of waiting for a table, that are likely to happen in its neighbours, are almost zero here.

Service was lovely. It was my first time there and the staff was very helpful.

After reading so many positive reviews, I came here expecting a great meal. However I was disappointed by both the food and service.

Came here for lunch last Thurs and was happy to find empty tables as it's usually busy. Ordered the chicken schnitzel baguette and BBQ chicken wings. The wings were smaller than I had expected, the taste was great but not wow. The schnitzel baguette was below average and I'll not recommend it.

There was a long queue at the payment cashier and it seemed like the place was understaffed that day. When we were next in line to pay (there was another customer behind us), the lady who did the cashiering went off to clean the tables. Another younger lady was nice enough to acknowledge us and say that she'll be back (she had just finished taking orders) but got our table wrong.

Maybe we hadn't ordered the right thing but with so many other options in ponsonby central, bird on a wire will not be our first dining choice.
Stephy_NakiGirl
Bird on a Wire takes up the central area of Ponsonby Central, and after today's visit I'm disappointed I haven't eaten there previously. It looks like chicken & salad, which it is, but they do it so well!
Chickens are rotisseried so nice & juicy. You can order them several different ways (i.e. In rolls, as a meal or by themselves). We decided to order a combo which had a 1/4 chicken, warm bread & salad for $16. We all enjoyed it. The stand out for me were the salads. They were all delish (we each tried different ones) & had such good flavour combinations. The taste good & are healthy - how can you go wrong?
Service was good - friendly & efficient. Coffee was mostly good - we each ordered a second one, & one was quite weak. The rest were fine so was probably a one off.
Will definitely be back - would especially like to try the chicken fat roasted potatoes!
Husk Creative
It's a well-know fact within the Husk office that one of the Huskies, who will not be named (* cough, Katie, cough *) is quite partial to the ā€˜Dirty Bird', aka KFC. This week we decided to sample the offerings of a less dirty bird ā€“ Bird on a Wire. The Ponsonby location, officially only 11 minutes away from Husk by Google's math, is in reality almost triple that when parking is factored into the equation ā€“ a burden shared by almost all eateries in Ponsonby at peak times. However, upon arriving, we were richly compensated for our time as we gazed upon the multitude of tasty-sounding options on the menu.Ā

While Bird on a Wire shares the role of being a chicken-specialist eating establishment with KFC, the similarities end there. Free-range SPCA blue tick chicken, tasty and authentic bastes and a bunch of organic and locally-sourced items quickly reveal Bird on a Wire as a much, much different eatery. The jamaican glaze was a popular choice amongst the huskies, as was the tasty range of side salads. The chicken was perfectly and consistently cooked, the sides delicious and the service impeccable. Go and check it out ā€“ don't be chicken!

Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/bird-on-a-wire-feb-2016

Hi, i had the the chicken schnitzel and slaw. The chicken schnitzel was very thin and small, it had hardly any meat, it was bland and it was a rip off for $12. The slaw was tasty, but it was a rip off as well, $6 for a small container.

Came here for lunch today, I wanted to try their Bhan mi and i was totally disappointed.

Don't get me wrong! Bird on a wire does amazing chicken and salads! I love their food generally... although I think they are on the expensive side.

Anyway, they filled their bhan mi with pate, carrots, shredded chicken, coriander and siracha sauce. The biggest problem i had with the bhan mi is the fact that it was soggy! I literally had to squeeze my baguette (that meant to be crispy) to get all the liquid out.
I also didn't think they have the flavour quite right.

Apart from the bhan mi, their foods are generally delicious! They also have awesome selections for drinks and very friendly staff!
I have been a fan since they were a little takeaway joint further down ponsonby road!

Their chicken is always perfectly cooked! Always juicy and yummy! They have a great selection of salads that all taste delicious making healthy eating that much easier!

We tried the pate this time, very large portion for the price but needed abit more flavour.

Service is always great and staff are nice and friendly. However, service tends to be quite slow when they are busy.

Definitely room for improvement but nonetheless a pleasant dining experience!
Mike
Ok ..Healthy food is good ,but the portions are way too small here ,,for the prices they are charging !,I had the $22 breakfast meal :poached eggs toast and a bit of bacon lettuce and tomatoes $22 ?,,,come on ,,,really ??,won't be coming back for this one ...or the over priced extras ...better value else where ...šŸ˜”

Delicious meal!

Loved the chicken, salad, and bread!

This eatery has a really nice vibe to it!

It is quite expensive though, but it is definitely worth trying out!

Really good mouth-feel bread and very fresh materials. Both pulled pork burger and chicken burger were tasty with lovely price. Staff were very nice.

I've been here 3 times, the food is always teally tasty, I love their green smoothie, too.

Today I had one of the baguettes, be prepared it is a bit messy to eat but delicious :)

The customer service is not the best to be honest. There was a rather angry looking lady at the counter and was not welcoming.
LoveEatLive
It was a good lazy night dinner option. Definitely green tea after the oh so sweet crumble was a good idea.
Nice warm ambiance for a cool night.
Reasonable prices.

Great vibe, had a half chicken with salad - perfect for a light lunch.
Sandy waited on us - her service is awesome, nice to be looked after by someone who clearly loves her job.
Will DEFINATELY return :)

I m writting this review only about the $10 "classic" baguette sandwich that clearly deserves a 5/5: I work around the corner and althought I've been there over 10 times, I have never had anything else, I just can't, my mind and stomach are hooked on it! Well ok I tried a few specials and salads and they were nice but man! Handsdown for one of the bests baguettes bread I've ever tasted (soft but firm)!! and that housemade mayo filling.. the chicken.. omg Im going back tomorrow!!

Been here so far 30 mins. requested 2 times to get the ordered drink. Waiting staff have to almost paged to get to help. Table dirty despite being told it would be cleaned/wiped down. Seriously... don't know even if I will bother to eat... it is a mission to do the basics right here.

Came here for lunch. The service was good and to the point. It may have not been super friendly but sometimes its better to have real interaction than something fake. The waiter was timely and helpful. We ordered half chicken with korean bbq sauce and two salads (the beetroot and malaysian). The chicken was perfectly cooked with a strong korean bbq taste. The salads were fresh, had multiple textures and was thoroughly enjoyable. I also ordered the jerk chicken roll and its by far the most balanced jerk chicken flavour I've had so far (most have too much of one particular ingrediant). Overall it was fresh, enjoyable and flavoursome. Above all, the price is affordable. This is what tips it to 5/5 for me. I felt ready to pay more, but at under $25 each for what i ordered u may also agree its a steal. I was surprised by this place and would easily come again for my chicken and salad fix

Came for dinner on Saturday.
The restaurant is inside ponsonby central centre.
Nice atmosphere.
We ordered chicken feeds for two. It came with one piece of roasted chicken thigh which was quiet big and three types of different salad to share. We choose potatoe salad, pumpkin lentil and coleslaw.
Chicken was okay, but quiet dry without any sauce even with the salads. I would prefer to have some sauces like gravy or bbq sauce. I think there is option for adding sauces.. We also had two housemade sodas, one lemonade and one fejoa. Too sour and bitter for us.

This was the 2nd time I have been here the first time we just grabbed a couple of rolls to go. This time we decided to sit down and it was a bit of a let down. We were waiting at the sign that said wait here to be seated and the wait staff just kept walking past us. Eventually one girl was like oh did you guys want to sit down? We then had to wait for her to clear one of the 5 tables that still hadn't been cleared. (They weren't overly busy and clearing tables was definitely not a priority as they didn't clear any of the other tables either until people wanted to come in and sit. We sat at the table for 30mins and then had to wave someone down to take our order. They brought us water that tasted funny (maybe soda water gone flat?) 20mins after we ordered one of the guys came over to tell us that one of the salads we had ordered was actually sold out which was a bit annoying. Then when our meals came out we had to ask for cutlery as well as they hadn't provided us any. The food was okay though, maybe lacked a bit of seasoning but it was okay and healthy. I just feel that the service was less than average? They may have been short staffed? But they didn't seem rushed off there feet at all, just lazy and careless.

My go to place for Salads. If anyone can make me enjoy beetroot, its these guys. I'd definitely recommend their couscous salad and the carrot and beetroot salad. They have something for everyone here, whether you are nut free, gluten free or vegan. Obviously as the name suggests, their chicken is the main draw and it won't disappoint. I'd also recommend the Bahn Mi and the fried chicken.

lovely environment, have little candle on the table, sofa and cushions. Food is well-cooked,tender, with tasty sauces. Been there twice in a week, can't wait revisit the store when hang out with friends in Ponsonby.

Worst meal I have had in years. After waiting over 45minutes my chick egg cheese arrived. It was overcooked and dry. Even the egg was dried out. Inedible.

Generally Good Food.

But to be honest... seems a little bit overpriced for a piece of chicken.

Good marketing.
Nice and friendly staff, but nothing special in the food (being brutally honest here)

Definitely my go-to salad bar in Ponsonby. I love how they switch up their salads from time to time to offer something new and fresh while be cheaply priced. My go tos; potato salad, Japanese slaw and raw beetroot salad. Cheap, fresh, healthy and easy take away for people on the go.
Timer
Our first visit since they moved to Ponsonby central. Much better settings and vibe. Food remains good standard. I was hoping a bit better but wasn't to be. The smoked salmon breakfast was not bad. Just wasn't perfect as the toast was cold and a chunk was missing from the salmon.

Had a fantastic brunch experience today. I had the omelette and loved the caramelized onions and leek flavour. The coffee was good and most importantly the service was fantastic. The waiter was polite and always had our glasses filled. It was a shame their blender was munted as my friend wanted to try out their smoothies. Will definitely visit soon to check out rest of their menu

Very delicious food, friendly staff and service. A friend and I had the "For Two" special which was really good, no fuss with payment, wouldn't mind coming back for a second time. Had the Noodle salad, Couscous and Carrot and Beetroot salad which were all fresh and refreshing. The chicken was also flavoursome too...
Paris
Very friendly staff and service nice lady packed my takeaway on ice so it would keep cool for the car ride and fresh for school lunchšŸ™ŒšŸ» got the 1/4 Chicken on large salad. Mixed the Japanese slaw, raw energy, Asian noodle salads

Came here yesterday and was impressed with the range of fresh salads and delicious hot chicken displayed in the cabinet. He ordered the classic baguette and I ordered the gravy baguette. The baguette itself was nice and soft, which was a nice surprise as they can be quite hard. The gravy filling was seriously some good stuff. I just wish they had put a little more filling in. The classic was also good but less satisfying than the gravy.

All in all.. Although the rolls tasted nice, we spent $24.5 (surcharge was 3.5) which I thought was a bit steep for two chicken rolls alone.

Nice atmosphere // super friendly service // nice food // healthy

Came here for dinner and it wasn't too busy, which made a nice change for Ponsonby Central. I had the Banh Mi Baguette, my partner had the Korean BBQ Baguette and our friend had the Dirty Bird Burger. Mine was nice, let's just say, caution, spicy. I ignored the chilli description and thought that it won't be too spicy, but damn it's spicy! It was nice on its own but didn't go too well with my rose šŸ˜© my rose I was beautiful, it was the Mas Theo Rose. The Korean BBQ Baguette was also nice, beautiful flavours, nice and sweet. Definitely recommended, would try the roast of tofu options next time šŸ˜Š

Very decent "lazy dinner" option! Chicken is cooked perfectly, but also a wide range of veg options! Really appreciate the effort that put into the veg options and enjoy that they don't just rely on their chicken! The food felt fresh and wholesome and at a reasonable price! Will be heading back the next time I went a quick easy dinner :)

Had dinner with a friend at bird on a wire last night. Used to eat here heaps and haven't for awhile and though I would give it another go. My friend and I both got salad which we both found to be really disappointing with their flavour and dressings. They have also made their serving sizes a lot smaller. Their now large size used to be their medium. And they also give you the tiniest amount of chicken. On top of that the people who worked there were pretty rude. Very different to my previous experiences of bird on a wire so perhaps I got it on a bad night but taking account the sub par food not sure I'll go back.

We shared the $30 feed for two and though it didn't look much at first, it was plenty. Chicken was nice and juicy with crispy skin and salads were fresh and crunchy. A great healthy lunch option.

My partner and I were looking for a healthy delicious lunch during our brief holiday here, as this place delivered. It was so good we came back the next day for more of the same!

Chicken lovers unite! This is an excellent place for a simple but delicious salad, sandwich or burger with lots of delicious chicken! My favourite is the bird on a wire chicken roll. Staff are really friendly, portions are generous (justifies price) and atmosphere is cute!

Fresh, flavoursome, high quality ingredients. Free range chicken joint in ponsonby.

Service was efficient, friendly and personable.

I had the Korean BBQ chicken roll.
All ingredients were fresh, chicken was tender and the sauce was deliciously unique. The bun was amazing. Perfect balance of soft crispy and chewy.
The Japanese slaw I had was fresh but kinda bland.
Perhaps a little overpriced, then again you're in ponsonby so I guess it's all relative.

4.0

This is such a great place, their salads and chicken are amazing! We quite often have this to take away. Little bit gutted about the increase in price though
Ryan
Come here solely for the rolls. Fave is probably the Korean bbq roll, but they're all really good. They start with the best bread from Wild Wheat, a good amount of butter and stuffed with chicken and dressings.

They're always fail safe and always fresh. Best rolls in town.

Went into Bird On A Wire in Ponsonby with Anupam SinghĀ after a couple of quiet drinks on a Thursday night just before closing, and was extremely happy with their hearty and healthy offerings.

I got a Chicken Feed for One with 1/4 Chicken with Gravy, Asian Slaw and Bread.

Beautiful food that I will definitely be revising to try more of their options. And the staff working that night were really friendly and good to deal with. The store was just about to close for the night, and the guy working gave us extra roast potatoes at no charge.

I like the way it is such a healthier option then your standard "chicken joint" but still serves the same purpose, especially with KFC right next door.

Good work Bird on a Wire!
Ed
Interesting little store, surprisingly next to a KFC.

The chicken is good, but not particularly exceptional.
The service is average and prices are perhaps on the higher side for what you get - I'd rather go to KFC next door and spend half the cost.

I would however still recommend this place to try out at least once, purely for the very few, but diverse flavours of chicken.

Food: 6/10
Service: 3/5
Ambience: 2/5
Value: 3/5
Overall: 14/25

I came here to get the famous chicken rolls at around 10.15ish, the door was open so I walked in and ordered but little did I know that they don't actually open till 11am. They could've just told me that they're not open yet (which other places would've done), but instead they still served me with a smile - how awesome is this, thank you to the team!!Ā
We got a Korean BBQ roll and a Vietnamese roll from the specials menu. Both were so delicious and full of fresh, quality ingredients, and the size was much bigger than I thought, very filling!Ā
Sorry for ordering before the opening time and thank you!!

Chicken! Finger licking good! What a great array of salads to go with the meal, again you aren't selling diamonds so calm down on the pricing especially in an area where there is 4chicken themed restaurants in 30m of each other Sarah Forsyth #g7

BOAW is a great little place to get a quick, tasty, mean feed! One thing I recommend is getting the Korean Chicken BBQ Roll and have it served dry with sauce on the side otherwise it's a dripping mess and juicing all over you! Everything is fresh and full of taste, great lunch on the run spot.
Ben Tutty
This place is off the hook- their Korean barbeque roll is amazing. Best takeaways in the city hands down plus it's healthy and the rolls are bloody good value.
Kate Hill
So great for a healthy option on the go! You don't realize how full and good you feel after a medium mix salad (of your choice) and lots and lots and chicken!! šŸ”šŸ”šŸ” such good quick, delish, guilt free fast food!!

Dropped in for a casual dinner with a friend was quite busy but we managed to walk in and grab a table just as a couple was leaving.

First thing is that the salads all looked so fresh, colourful and inviting such a healthy concept they have going.

I ordered an extra large salad and chose the beetroot couscous and raw kale slaw both were delicious and so filling I couldn't finish it the serving is definitely big! my friend also got an extra large salad the same as mine with lots of chicken and a side of roast potatoes. she said she was expecting a bit more chicken than she received however everything tasted good and the potatoes were crunchy and yummy. will head back there again for a quick healthy and fresh meal for sure.

Had a few times, the Japanese slaw is a favourite of mine, adding chicken. I wish they were open earlier so that i could get before university or work. We need easy things like this around auckland. Not badly priced either, getting large to share with a friend, this makes it really cheap to.

Bird on a Wire is a great alternative to other takeaway places the food is wholesome, fresh and tasty and for what you get it's not too pricey. The Japanese slaw with chicken is my favourite !

A simple concept executed exceptionally well! Roasted free range chicken, a vast selection of salads on offer and the standard sides to accompany a great roast.

We had the half chook with korean BBQ baste, a large salad, beer battered fries w Harissa mayo, a little pot of gravy. It came to $38 which was great for a solid meal for two. The chicken was cooked well - although Id probably give the korean BBQ baste a miss next time. We opted for the potato salad w roasted garlic and celery and it was perfect. The fries were a hit - the Harissa Mayo is seriously something awesome.

We planned on dining in, but the moment they put the large paper brown bag onto our table, it was slightly awkward. Even awkward-er trying to ask for knives and forks annnnnnnd plates. It would have been nice if they offered them ā˜ŗļø

This was my go-to when I lived in Ponsonby and wanted something quick and semi-healthy. I don't really enjoy mixing salads so I usually stick to just one kind of salad and a lot of chicken.Ā

Recently though, I started ordering the sandwiches and burgers! They should really start pushing for these because they're delicious! Even though they do take ages to make in comparison to everything else!
Lennie L
This made a fun, casual weekend lunch in Ponsonby whilst I was getting my (window) shop on! You can get something quick, satisfying yet healthy which is always a win/win combo.

I ordered a quarter roast chicken and just before I was about to ask, they offered me option to choose my cut of chicken. Always in fear of a dry chicken breast, I went for the leg and was a happy diner.

I accompanied this with the choice of 3 salads- the beetroot which was sweet, juicy and slightly tangy (in a good way!). The Thai noodles which were super satisfying and nicely nutty, accompanied with a red cabbage slaw that bought crispness, freshness and colour.

I did think the service was a little slow- I was standing there for quite a while, trying to get their attention and politely saying 'hi' and 'excuse me' before they noticed me. That aside, I'll be going back for lunch again as I really enjoyed my simple yet effective, little brown paper boxed meal!

I love popping into Bird on a Wire for an easy healthy lunch option. Their chicken rolls are definitely my favourite, and the Korean BBQ flavoured one is just delicious. They use the most amazing bread rolls that really takes them to the next level. I also love their salads, and the fact that you can mix and match different ones, even if you only order a small. They also have a great loyalty program that I've taken advantage of many times, so if you're a regular here I'd highly recommend joining!

Sarah ReynoldsĀ #challenge

Bird On A Wire provides a lovely, fresh and healthy dining experience that is complemented well by their outgoing staff and inviting atmosphere. The salad selection is vast and always fresh and is extremely tasty. The chicken is perfectly cooked and provides a generous meat hit to complement the salad. A very healthy, very affordable lunch or dinner option that is very generous with their portion sizes.
Victoria
Yum so good and fresh. Their chicken rolls are delish! Well worth a visit to any of their locations. Would come back again and try some of the other items off the menu.
Donna&Shane
What a great idea if you want a takeaway meal that is healthy and fresh. The whole chicken was yummy and the salads are nice and fresh our 'special' burger was really nice and not greasy although we waited ages for it to be made... Other people were getting their meals before us which is a tad annoying .... Definitely a must try if your in the area then need dinner to take home for the kids!!!!

Bird on a Wire is one of my favourite places to grab a quick and healthy meal on a Friday night.Ā

The food is simple but it is delicious. The chicken is always really moist and full of flavour. I love all of the bastings but my personal favourite is the Jamaican Jerk. The freshly made salads are around $8-$15. They change all of the time which is great for regulars like myself and they are always healthy and super filling.Ā

I only wish that they were closer to where I lived but whenever I am in Ponsonby or Takapuna then I always grab a chicken and salad.

If you are after a healthy meal, head over to Bird on a Wire.

Rapidly becoming one of my favourite Ponsonby eateries - the air of Ponsonby smells expensive but when you dig into the food scene here, truly quality food is actually few and far between.Bird on a Wire keeps it simple - yet delicious. The bastes are bang on and the best bit is you know you're being healthy! The menu is concise, but everything on there is perfectly made. Wraps are divine, and very very flavoursome. A tad pricy for what it is, until you look at what Nando's is charging these days. Not to mention the excellent service by the boys and girls!

Beautiful chef's special burger with chicken filling that superrr yummy! Definitely will come back to try more chicken and salad herešŸ˜Š Very recommended for all healthy food loversšŸ‘šŸ»

What's not to love, chicken and salad. Healthy but tasty. There are now a whole raft of decent and inviting alternatives to standard fast food chicken outfits (of which I have managed to avoid) and the two 'Bird' restaurants on P Rd are prime examples of this. The salads looked amazing, and so did the chicken. i took the boring option of chicken burger (minced), but next time will get one of the funky roll options (Vietnamese or Jerk). Being lunch time there was a non stop parade of chicken eaters coming through but we were lucky enough to get one of the tables....
Michael Sorensen
Healthy, Fresh, and Great Flavour. The Bird On A Wire Chicken Roll and the Korean Chicken Rolls are awesome! They also offer Sriracha hot sauce on the side!
HJ
Good clean and healthy food. Our meals was tasty, the bread was harder than we expected it too be given that we ordered a sandwich and burger. The wait for our meals was over 15 minutes, but they were busy due to the early dinner rush. I would avoid peak times. Wedges were really nice! Overall food was good if your looking for a healthier option

I didn't think bird on a wire would taste very special because chicken is just chicken right?
But nooooo. Bird on a wire cook their chicken to perfection. It's so moist !!

I love having their chicken on their japanese ponzu salad!!

I actually think I started eating more salads in general after eating bird on a wire salad.
House Of Eats
Value packed lunch for around $8-12. Your choice of freshly made salads and an option to add extra chicken. They rotate salads so if your a regular like me your not eating the same thing day in and day out - however the food is that good I think I could. Anyways they also cater to all you bread lovers with 3 different baguette rolls. Freshly made, ready for your picking. Another option is freshly squeezed juices that are available here. Pop into there Ponsonby branch and take a whole or half a roast bird - I mean chicken in this case, saves having to cook. Its seasoned and crispy. Oh I nearly forgot to mention - every 10th salad is free - but make sure to get your card stamped. Eat and enjoy :)

A late lunch w. My beautiful wife today. We felt like eating out, something fast, but not too naughty & defo didn't want to compromise too much on our healthy eating plan for the rest of the week. So, we shared a Korean Bbq 1/4 chook w. the garlic & chilli Brussels (sprout) salad and a Jamaican jerk chicken roll.

The roll was primo and I'll definitely get a roll again when we're back there. The chicken was nice and tasty too. Salad refreshing, w. the zing from the chilli. Great vibe here, nice mellow sounds and friendly staff. A great way to start off another week of healthy eating......until our mate 'treat Saturday' rolls back into town.

Regularly go here for a quick bite as I work just down the road. The food is nice and simple and healthy so is a quick go to. However I find the menu doesn't change much and salads lack inspiration. Also is really quite pricey for small amounts of chicken on top of salads! Please give us more chicken!!! But overall food is quick and convenient and will be coming back. Service is less desired though. They are often slow and I feel disorganized but all the staff are very friendly but always forget to ask if I have a loyalty account which I do or remember my name...as I'm regular. But that's okay because it is fast food I suppose.

The salads can sometimes leave you feeling they could have done more. Go there for the chicken and order tarragon mayo with everything. Absolutely everything.

When you're in the mood for something healthy and tasty Bird on A Wire has a plethora of salads and rotisserie chickens to choose from. Since the salads change everyday I haven't had a chance to taste them all but from what I have tasted, I would say that the Japanese soba noodle salad is by far my favourite and is very filling. I love bird on a wire because you can choose your own baste for a rotisserie chicken e.g. Gravy, Jamaican, Korean and many more. This goes great with a salad of your choice and makes for a great lunch!
Peifen Chua
Really cute little place for a quick meal. Place is really small and there's not a lot of seats. So good for takeaways or a quick snack stop. There isn't a huge variety on the menu. But you basically come here for the chicken. They're generally quite healthy, with lots of salads to go with your chicken. I had the aubergine cold noodle salad, it's really different and I definitely enjoyed it. Other than chicken, there's also sandwiches, rolls and bahn mi too. Overall not bad, price is reasonable too.
Hannah
Ordered takeaway from here last weekend. People working there were nice and friendly. We got a whole bird with gravy, a large salad (5 choices with 'loads of pulled chicken') and side of roast potatoes with gravy. The chicken was delicious and tender, and the gravy had lots of flavour. The salads were good (however we chose 5 but they seemed to forget the penne pasta so there was only 4 different ones in the box) and the chicken was nice and moist. Really liked dressing on the potato salad and the spring bulgur wheat with edamame, asparagus, beans, spinach and feta with orange dressing was delicious. The potatoes were nicely roasted with their skins on - definitely recommend getting them with the gravy :)

I have the Bird On A Wire lunch runs at work they are so good! And very filling :) They cost a little bit more than they used to be but still buy them as its a much healthier

When I first heard about Bird On A Wire I was a bit unsure, a place that only serves chicken? But after hearing some good reports I thought I had better check it out. I have been twice so far, both times to pop in to get takeaway for lunch (unfortunately I didn't take any photos either time). There are some indoor and outside seating if you want to eat in.

I had the chicken burger and chips and the chicken roll and chips. Both were really good and the chips nice and crispy. There also have a wide range of salads which you can add chicken to (surprise surprise), and they looked great so I will definitely be visiting again to try these out (and promise I will take some photos!). So I guess you can say I have been converted!

Update: I checked out the new venue and it's fab!!!

I totally rate this place for many reasons.Ā They promote concious eating, all chicken & mayonaises are sourced from free range eggs/chickens.Ā The salads are absolutely delicious, the flavours are beautiful, like the corriander, sesame oil & black sesame seeds in the slaw.Ā Fresh flavours make this food GOOD & It is the only place I can think of where I purchaseĀ truly nourishing fast food for dinner.

Bird on a Wire is great eatery for a "Quick Bite". This place does amazing rotisserie chicken and its all Free Range, Woohoo! This place is great as its cheap and all relatively healthy - for all you health conscious peeps out there.Ā

Great menu choices - either the choice of sandwiches, burgers, chicken feeds or chicken by the 1/4, 1/2 and whole. The Baguette for the Korean Bbq roll was crunchy but had a great softness and chew to it! The filling was so moorish. It has a tarragon mayo which oozes out and for $10 its awesome for value for size and flavour! My friend had the Gravy roll on a gluten free bun. Im not sure how they make it but geez you wouldn't even notice its gluten free if someone had said otherwise. Great option and also full of flavour. If you are not carb loading, try a mix of their amazing salads and you can add the option of chicken. Being the hungry piggy I am, I also took home half a chicken with the Korean bbq sauce just to use for my own chicken wraps.Ā

Great healthy food and friendly service. Also if you go enough like I have, join up with their points system for great rewards on their food!

Rating
Food: 9.5/10
Service: 9.5/10
Value for Money: Excellent

Tried the bbq chicken roll couple of weeks ago. Was very impressed. Initially I thought the $10 was quite pricey, but was surprised at the quality and quantity of it all. Am going back this evening for a half chicken, salad and chips.
The ironic thing is that KFC is just next door.
It's nice to have a reasonable, free range chicken takeaway in Auckland.
Highly recommend.

Went here the other night with a couple of friends. My two friends meals arrived very promptly and after about twenty minutes my meal still hadn't arrived. I asked the boys on the counter where it was and they had accidentally forgotten about it. To my surprise they quickly made my delicious sandwich and they refunded the price of my meal. I didn't expect this at all. Will definitely go back again

Walking through Ponsonby I was on the look out for something healthy to take home for lunch for myself and my partner's lunch, I came across Bird on a Wire and initially was very impressed.
The food was looking great so I thought I would give it a try.
I paid $16 for a medium take home box, which I thought was pricey but once we started eating it there was plenty for two,
I think the amount of chicken could be increased, wasn't too much in there, but the flavors and quality of what was there was awesome, will definitely be going back !

I eat lunch here approximately 3 times a week. Great healthy/novel alternative. Great selection of around 8 fresh salads that change regularly. Salads include potatoes, noodles etc so can be really filling if you want. Think the poor reviews are due to people expecting another fast food joint - if you are after mass produced fried chicken there is a KFC a few doors down!

Tried Bird on a Wire for first time tonight, utterly disappointed, for a medium size meal $16, it consisted of 2 tablespoons of shredded chicken, a heap of green salad (which was nice, and warm soggy potato's. Honestly 2 tablespoons of shredded chicken, what a joke. I was after a chicken meal, not a garden of salad and soggy potato meal! Won't be going back!

Had the $15 1/4 chicken and salad. It was absolutely delicious. Staff was friendly, and food was quick - a perfect "too lazy to cook" option.

Small, dry chicken. Expensive. Really disappointing. Salad okay, expensive, nothing special. Would never go back, should have gone to the supermarket. Have to keep on filling this to get to 200 characters. A real shame, could have been avoid concept.

Neat idea which works really well. Had a whole chicken with the bread and a 1/2 and 1/2 salad (beetroot and coleslaw). The guys behind the counter were very nice and helpful when we were deciding on the flavours of chicken and which salads we wanted. Highly recommended for an easy tasty meal!

Dry chicken tonight. First time there and was expecting great things but chicken was dry. Should have gone to the supermarket instead. Salad and bread was great though.
Eat To Live
We regularly pick up dinner for the family Bird On A Wire, and we love it - we get the 'family feed' which is enough for two adults and two kids, or an extra chicken if we have guests.

It is great quality and good value.

The bread is delicious as are all the sauces and bastes that come with the chicken - a welcome addition to the neighbourhood and alternative to cooking my own roast on Sundays!

Went to check out the new establishment last night. Chicken was nice n succulent, and the coleslaw tasted fresh. Good healthy meal. I had the jamaican jerk chicken. Think it would have been more flavorsome if it was cooked in the base rather then just painted on afterwards. However still tasted good :) ... One last suggestion - serve the chicken on plates with a decent knife n fork. The boxes are way to hard to eat out of as there pretty flimsy .. as are the iceblock stick forks which broke twice while eating. All n all a good feed. The place has only opened for a week so i wish it all the best!!!!

Amazing food that really caters well for those of us on a Paleo diet. Get stuck into a scrumptious salad or even a fun fruit smoothie. This place is a destination and worth every cent if you ask me. Nice and central right on Ponsonby Road. Not a lot of sitting room so this place is really a take away kind of joint.

We has such a great experience here yesterday! We signed up to Bird on a Wire's loyalty club as they were advertising a free half chicken. As soon as we walked in the service was AMAZING. The staff here are so casually friendly, I couldn't stop smiling.

We ordered the half chicken, a medium mixed salad which had a beetroot mix, a coleslaw and a chickpea and feta mix. The salad was huge, definitely best to share between two people. The chicken was super moist and very good to know it's free range. The drinks they serve all look to be organic/fair trade.

We will definitely be back when we feel like a healthy takeaway experience. The food was so fresh, definitely didn't feel heavy or bloated afterwards. Really appreciate the staff!

I first discovered Bird On A Wire at the Go Green Expo back in April this year. They were one of the most popular stands at the Expo and I can see why! Free range rotisserie chicken, plus wholesome tasty salads and friendly staff. Seems like the whole package to me!

I have since been to their new fit out on Ponsonby Road. We got takeaway salads and rotisserie chicken. It was so filling, but I felt wonderful afterwards.

I really enjoyed my visit to Bird On A Wire, because of the tasty chicken and the yummy ingredients in the salads. A meal at Bird On A Wire will definitely leave you feeling absolutely guilt-free!

Went here today for lunch, got a medium salad for $12 and added a 'little' chicken for $3. I got some of the Ponzu Slaw which had Asian flavours in and a delish dressing. I also got some of the pumpkin, cos, feta and sumac salad which again was nicely seasoned and had a yummy dressing. The rotisserie chicken that I added was super moist and so succulent, will definitely have to come back for more of this!

Bird on a Wire is a great place to grab a delicious, healthy takeaway that you know is going to be taste good and be filled with good quality ingredients. There is a plentiful salad bar and amazing pulled chicken constantly rotating.

I highly recommend the coleslaws with a serving of chicken - a great way to get some veg into you via a quick meal!

My only negative would be the takeaway boxes they provide have been known to leak all over my car - please either provide decent receptacles or small plastic bags to put them in!

Bird on a Wire also had a stall at the Wanderlust festival, where their salads and chicken went down an absolute treat after a yoga session!

Lots of friends recommend bird on a wire as one of the best chicken dish in town.

They use free range product, the best take away store and service I've ever experience in town, and most of product from local farm, so my wife and I really trust them very much.

We usually order the whole rotisserie chicken $25, it's juicy ,delicious, natural and very tasty , you can also add different sauce such as jamaican jerk, korean BBQ, salsa, just ask the staff, they are really helpful, my wife likes the fried chicken wings ($10 6 pieces) very much, it combine with the bbq sauce just make your mouth water, and the chicken wings are very tasty, I think you can easy find out the different between free range chicken from the normal one as the quality of the free range product are more tasty, juicy, the normal one is a little bit dry and not that tasty.

Also my favorite one is the dirty bird burger $14,hey look at the name haha, the chicken breast in the burger is very juicy ,not like the dry one you may find in other takeaway store, the combination of lettuce cheddar onion tomato with mayo sauce ,just balance each other in your mouth, and also very healthy.

I think they also have the family meal ,can feed 4~5 people, with whole chicken ,salad, baguette around $70, I believe the free range product, this is one of the best takeaway store in town, so don't miss it!
