Review Citizen Park - Auckland Central

The new desserts are so great! Perfect going into the summer! Always love coming here as the bar itself is actually gorgeous 😍 shout out to Vick for the friendly service xxxx

Great food awesome service (lucky hardly anyone there) Bar staff polite and made sure we were looked after.

Took mum out to lunch, she had fish tacos and a whiskey. I thoroughly enjoyed the double beef cheeseburger with bacon. Service was polite and efficient.
Life's for living
Nice garden courtyard setting with pub food. The food is tasty and good for pub food, servings are good size=would satisfy a man. The chicken pot pie was yummy, flaky pastry lid with creamy juicy thigh ir leg meat . Also has nachos, tasty as well. It's a nice casual pub near my work, ideal for work /business lunch.

Nailed it! Been here a few times and it just does not disappoint. The fish tacos are delicious, with a beautiful piece of fresh fish. The beef nachos, and I'm making a big call here, may be the best in town! Big portion, fair price, delicious tender beef, light corn chips... I mean... Wow! Extra points for Tuatara beer on tap. Well done, guys!

Really nice place, great vibes. Menu is diverse, you can get many interestingly sounding main courses as well as something to nibble (although nachos could have had more cheese). Many gluten free and dairy free dishes. Everything is cooked fresh and there is an open kitchen (so you can be sure it's fresh). Nice selection of good alcohols too

Great venue for a large group. Quality beer, menu has something for everyone and very generous portions.

Excellent service from Felix. Delicious cocktails, the food was really delicious and love the vibe and atmosphere of this place! Comes alive at night!

Dropped in for a couple casual drinks and some snacks early afternoon. Great selection of tap beer, wine and bar snacks. Heaters keeping the entire place nice and cozy and friendly attentative staff. Stella Artois on tap is the best!

Really great experience. Was greeted when we came through door and seated immediately. Staff brought menus and explained specials. Very swift as they came back to ask for drinks/food orders. Both dishes came out at the same time and took roughly 10-15mins. Drinks came out quickly and staff were very fast to clear tables and ask if a refill was needed. I'm vegetarian and I have to say there was a good amount of vegetarian food available on the menu. From past experience the food portions can be large however this time a better portion (for me) was given. Indoor area is cosy but loads of seats, outdoor area is fully covered and has a fire on one side with heaters distributed accordingly. Great place for catch up or business casual meeting.

Amazing pub and restaurant. Right next to a parking area. Friendly and helpful staff. Heaps to choose from the menu. Very yummy food.

If you want to go classic, their nachos are a vibe and might be the best in Auckland. I haven’t eaten all the nachos in Auckland tho

Dany Dentith (dany chai keith)
good food, good atmosphere, great place to catch up with friends

New menu has just been launched today. Get down and check it out. Yum yum. Great atmosphere and even better food

Some of the best casual dining food I've ever had - period. The burgers are excellent and come with delicious fries and crunchy, ultra-tasty onion rings. There's a great beer selection and our party of ten were very well looked after, and all equally as impressed as i was. Sensational!
Brett Archer
Great place and atmosphere... not a craft beer bar... but they had Lagunitas on tap..... what could go wrong
Bob Lane
Ok. Calamari was dry. Side's of chip's large. If you want chip's with any other meal it's an extra $4.95.

Visited to watch a ufc match. Great ambience and the staff were lovely! The battered pickles were yum and the waffle fries (can't go wrong with deep fried potatoes though, right??) Will def visit again :)
Cass Toyne
Really cool spot, food is amazing with a huge outdoor area. Good spot to watch the sports
Sharon
The Nachos!! I come back time and time again for these. So good. I love all the extra hot sauces that are availavle and there is a good drink selection also. Plus friendly staff. Have also had the burgers which were pretty good, not a fan of the waffle fries myself as i find them a tad sweet, would just prefer normal fries. But thats just being picky.

Food tasted really good, recommend the chicken waffles! However I found the portion looked really small as they presented it on such a massive plate. Staff also weren’t around much so we had to keep waiting and waiving them down and felt like it was a hassle to be served at times.
Matt John Olds
One of my favourite local spots. Always beyond impressed with the quality and friendliness of the service here and love the menu and drinks selection.
James Peng
Great atmosphere. Good beer. Very tasty food. However portion sizes are extremely small for its pricing.<br/><br/>We ordered the pouring and chicken wings.
Gnxsta23
Had lunch here with the team yesterday <br/>I ordered the Fried chicken burger <br/>When it came to the table looked awesome <br/>Unfortunately it tasted the opposite <br/>Wasn’t happy at all the chicken just tasted like over cooked batter and was dry!! Waffle chips over cooked like hard biscuits onion rings over cooked was average 2/10 if I wasn’t in a rush I would of asked for a replacement meal <br/>Won’t be back in a rush anytime soon<br/>Thanks

The xmas dinner last week was definitely the best I ever had! ... A friend recommended this place to me and now its the 3rd time Ive visited. The food is absolutely amazing and I will definitely be back again. Great food, great service and I love the atmosphere.

On December 4th, I went to zitizen park to book a dinner for 19 people on December 10th. The manager promised to reserve two beautiful tables outside for me. I was very satisfied and agreed to the reservation. When I went to confirm the dinner again at noon on the 10th, I was told by the same person that could not give any table outside, only the indoor table, and I was not satisfied. If not, you should tell me when I book, or in advance, instead of telling me five hours before dinner, and the manager tried to shirk responsibility and said that he called me several times on the weekend and wanted to inform , But I did not receive any calls, the manager was lying. I had a hard time looking for another restaurant for dinner for 19 of us in only 5 hours, but fortunately found it later. Citezen park is a restaurant with no credibility. It is hard to imagine how the staff who love to lie make good food. Very bad experience. I will not go back.
Lizzie
Had the Chicago beef quesadilla and the calamari and they were both so good! Especially the calamari - so crispy & fresh!! Love this bar, such a cool chilled atmosphere. The nachoes are always a win too!

We had our work thing couple weeks ago on a Friday night there. It was packed inside however the service was very fast and friendly. Our tables got checked regularly, drinks got offered consistently. The food was generous and full of flavour, I like the cauliflower popcorn, so yummy! The restaurant/bar had a great vibe.

Came here for Valentines Day with my partner, was greeted by an extremely rude European woman who was adamant I hadn't made a booking (even though I had the confirmation email ready to show). Was pointed to the only table available, then was moved to a better table because the rude woman clearly felt sorry for us. <br/>Waited 25 mins for our food order to be taken, but the was told by the same woman that I had apparently ordered too much food and I couldn't possibly eat it all ?? I was baffled by this as it is my money I'm spending at your venue and how could you know how much I can eat? We had to wave her down for tap water as well. Food was average, Espresso Martini was served in a wine glass and I will not be back.<br/><br/>Whoever the French waitress was needs to sort her attitude out because that is just not on. She actually ruined a night that I was excited to spend with my partner, seeing as we don't go out much. There is really no excuse to be spoken to like that. I also work in hospitality and have for years, so I know how to deal with customers, even when having a bad day - and it was not that. <br/>Disappointed and would not recommend to any paying potential customer.

Good place to have a beer and some nibbles with friends. Food is pub style, nothing fancy, but the atmosphere is great. Good selection of beers.

This place is epic. Great food and good music. Awesome buzz. Only gripe was with one of the staff. Had a wee meltdown when pouring drinks then just about had a tanty when called out on his impatience. Other than that tho very pleasant experience!

Based on food, service and atmosphere. This outlet has Great atmosphere. The covered outdoor area is a great place to have dinner and or a drink. The service from the bar staff was excellent. Always tending to the table and making sure everything was good. Food was okay. Table ordered squid, fries, fish taco, lamb taco and wings. All of the above were okay. Not bad but not amazing. It was all about great service great place to have a wind down beer with a couple of mates.

Dropped by for light snacks and drink . Cocktails were nice , and the raspberry cola was good. Bean nachoes was full of flavour with some added chillies sauce.Tacos were ok .Enjoyed the chillie fries.<br/>
Brizzle
Awesome look and feel with a great outside bar.<br/><br/>The menu is a mismatch of everything.<br/><br/>Had the half kilo of ribs for $19 with the Bourbon BBQ sauce and an IPA beer.<br/><br/>Everything was average. Some of the ribs were succulent and moist, others were dry and chewy. The ribs were all different temperatures, some piping hot, others just in the warm side. It makes me believe that these were reheated in the microwave. The BBQ was really nice but no taste of bourbon.<br/><br/>My better half had the calamari and curly fries with a mango cocktail then a lemon lime margarita. The calamari was soggy, fries average. The mango cocktail was over syrup sweet while the margarita was made with cordial. At those prices you expect fresh lemons and limes to be used.<br/>

Been here a few times, both the food and the service are OK. Wait staff need to be prompted to take food orders. The food portions are generous, but lacking in flavour compared to other Auckland bars. Wide range in menu which means everyone will be able to find something.
Dani
Really tasty food and such a good vibe. Came here for a dinner with a friend and loved the aesthetics of the place. Ordered a quesadilla and the seared game fish taco which were both super delicious. Would definitely come back to try more of their vegetarian dishes too.

I absolutely fall in love with this place. I went there with my Japanese girlfriend for a dinner with major hangover from previous night. The very cute waitress recommended me to go for a Bloody Mary which is well known cocktail for curing a hangover. It was so delicious and really cured my hangover by the end of night. The foods we ordered were all so tasty, very cozy friendly decor setting, friendly staff with a great service where I will definitely come back again. Thank you so much for taking nice photos of us end of night as well!!
Bobby
This place has the best cheese salad I have ever had in my life. I have had it two days running and cannot get enough of it. Friendly staff in a child friendly casual atmosphere , love it, wish we had one on Welly
Lilia Oliveira
The service is really really bad, the staff is ok, but the manager is sadly. No recommend, sorry Citizen Park, l’ll never go back there for anything!
Rosie
went for lunch today, service was a bit slow and not the friendliest, had to go find our own menus and ask for water for the table, we got the re-fried bean and beef nachos with coffees, coffees were average same with the food #nohardfeelingsthough
I_like_pickles
Great food. Great Vibe. Great time.<br/>The decor and setting of this place is relaxing with the mood lighting and the bar feel.<br/><br/>The food is good. Tasty, cooked well and presented nicely.

Overall, it is a good place hanging out with your friends, having some beer and grab some bites. It might be too loud for dinner but still good food, good service.
Aisling
Friendly and helpful staff, also lovely menu. Maybe a bit expensive but worth it for a nice night out. Will definitely be coming back in the future!!

Went there on Thursday and waited 50 mins to get our food. They explained kitchen got confused because we changed table. We shared table with others when ordering because no other table was available. I understand but still there is space of improvement. My steak on special is tasty, right doneness (media rare) and it was good meal. But the chips taste like those frozen one from supermarket.

There weren't too many customers for lunch on a Tuesday. Deer Hunter burger - with venison, double cheese, a couple of deep-fried onion rings & fries - looked really good & appetizing; brioche was soft. The taste was fairly good. Soft-shell crab came with veggie & house kimchi; it was crispy; the accompanying salad was refreshing.<br/>(N.B. Citizen Park deserved a 3.5/5, but Zomato's new format only accepts whole number rating, hence...)<br/>(Food - 3.5/5; Service - 4/5; Ambience - 3/5)<br/>Visited on 19 June 2018

Really nice place to be. Food really amazing. Everything was nicely balanced. Ambience was really nice and pleasant. Would love to go there again and would recommend my friends as well.

Great place! Awesome local bar with good food, great atmosphere and lovely staff. Clean plates all round! I'd like to use this review to apologise to a staff member at the counter who had to deal with my dad this evening (Thursday 24th may). We didn't read the terms and conditions of our voucher and it was entirely our fault, and your staff member (big dark beard) did a really good job of standing his ground in my opinion. Props to you man. Sorry my dad was the worst. We had a great meal though! Aside from the little hiccup at the end. You guys do such a great job. All the best, no hard feelings.

This place is awesome. It’s a yes from me. We tried the baked cheese (yum), the cauliflower (yum) the fish tacos (yum) and the ribs (yum, not pictured)... menu is varied, dynamic and tempting!

Came on Friday & probably would have given this place a 4.5 if:<br/><br/>1. The Co-Owner/DJ didn't play top 10 pop hits repeatedly (his mates looked seemingly sloshed in my opinion), the music could be a lot better.<br/>2. My friends commented that the bathrooms were revolting which is a shame as it was pretty early on in the evening we were there -  standards should probably be higher. <br/><br/>Other than the above the staff were so lovely (thanks for the shot Frank)/drinks & food were pretty spot on too :)<br/><br/>Will come back, hopefully it's better next time....

Super busy when we went so was having to yell to hear the people on the other side of the table. Had the chicken burger which was pretty good, tiny amount of chips with weird seasoning though which made me sad.. overall just above average imo
Diogo Reck
It took ages for us to get someone to get our order, and it wasn't until I walked to the counter so the waiter would see us.<br/><br/>Food wasn't bad, except for the chips, that seem to be the frozen ones. The steak was to the right doneness and the ribs were soft, but in both cases the sauce were overpowering the main ingredients.<br/><br/>The toilets were dirty, which helped to cut a star off this review.

This is the second time we visit citizens park. Nice atmosphere however the food does not taste as good as the first time we tried. The ribs are much drier than what we had before. Nachos was nice. Buffalo chicken wings are tatsy but the portion is a bit small. In general the quality is moderate.

Very impressed with this place!! Came as I saw photos of their burgers on Instagram.. Wowsers they are just as good as they look. <br/>I love coming to eat out in Kingsland, definitely a hot spot with lots of delicious eateries, which also makes it quite competitive. But this place is definitely up there. <br/>Very busy spot, and a very cool venue. Has an inside area and an outside courtyard kinda area that can easily be completely covered. <br/>Service is really good! Friendly and quick. <br/>Can't rave about the food enough, the waffle fries were the best I've ever had.. the burger was simply devine! I saw a variety of other dishes coming out, tacos, sliders, and everything looked so yummy.. I will be back!!

Enjoyed dinner<br/>Service was friendly and food was fair but little bit peppery and pungent.<br/>Menu and interior was well conceptual.<br/>I would back when I missing American cuisine.

Tried Citizen Park for lunch on a quiet Saturday and we are glad we did.<br/><br/>We ordered the Nuff Said burger (above average but not outstanding); cheese burger and skinny fries for the young rug rat (rug rat ate the lot so it must have been good) and the beef short ribs (divine).<br/><br/>Service was great.<br/><br/>And if you are into it they had Root Beer.......

đŸ‘đŸŒ the pea risotto was delish! I the fish was nice too, but the risotto was the star here. Staff were friendly , my daughter had fish bits , looked really greasy otherwise this rating would’ve been a 4....should’ve got her something healthier - otherwise I was happy with my fish and with a group one voucher - winning !

Probably most people recognize this place as a bar but if you expect restaurant quality food from them, you may feel disappointing like me.<br/><br/>The wing factor is not chicken wing.It is a mix of drumstick and wing and taste is like spicy sweet& sour without sweetness. There is no flavor, just spicy. We ordered the one with blue cheese sauce but couldn't take it. You need 10 paper towels to eat them as they are so sticky.<br/><br/>The waitress recommended us their Beef Brisket Nachos. They were ok but I felt sick after eating them as I didn't know there were coriander on the top. They should mention it on their menu so people who can't eat coriander can avoid it.<br/><br/>Nachos is something you have to eat in 3 minutes as they end up a mass of hardened cheese and soggy corn chips. I guess there is not much they can do about it but the plate was too big,so how about make it in a small dish as starters?<br/><br/>Their toilet was so dirty and heater towel was broken.I felt like came to divey bar.

We've been to Citizen Park a couple of times now & we're always impressed. Nestled in the heart of Kingsland, Citizen Park is the ideal place for a casual Saturday lunch, or afternoon drinkies with friends. <br/>The staff are always lovely, price wise they're pretty reasonable, the food is delicious - we particularly love the poutine, and there is a great atmosphere about the place. Would definitely recommend for a casual lunch or afternoon drinking session, and we will DEFINITELY be back again soon.

It was one weekend afternoon and I decided to looked for a place in Auckland with the best hot wings that is non-fast food chain.<br/>That was how I ended up here, in Kingsland.<br/>Their hot wings were delicious and succulent. It was marinated with hot sauce and blue cheese.<br/>Recommended to try! Good service and free parking is a big plus.... Wash if down the spiciness with Root beer float 😁<br/>

Been here only once but its quite noisy place so if you are planning to have social drinks or food here then probably keeping mum and finishing meal is the best approach .  They have got nice decor and the place itself is quite spacious but avoid visiting on weekends .<br/><br/>Atmosphere: 4<br/>Price :4 <br/>Service:3<br/>Food :3

Missed the lunch time rush which was perfect! Sat in front of the fire on a crisp Auckland Thursday. Staff were friendly (only downfall was that we had to wait for her to finish texting before greeting us). Ordered Baja fries and the wings with hot sauce and blue cheese. These were VERY good! Will return.

We visited here on Sunday night for dinner as we had a GrabOne voucher to the value of $40. One of the conditions of the voucher was that one of the items purchased had to be from the Mains section. We chose the Buffalo Rump which while having very good flavour was incredibly tough and near impossible to cut or chew. The gnocchi that it was served with was nice but cold. Considering that dish alone was $36 and used up most of our voucher, we were pretty disappointed. <br/><br/> We also ordered 3 other dishes however; the quesadilla, calamari & poutine, all of which were excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, and we will definitely return, however not for the steak.

I had high hopes about this place after reading all the good reviews so my friends and I decided to try it out. Apart from being impressed with the atmosphere and décor of the place I really struggle to find anything positive to say.<br/><br/>Service was lacking from the get go as the staff seemed disinterested in serving us and brought the wrong amount of cutlery. When we inquired if some dishes had peanuts in them the staff didn't seem to know and kept going back to ask the chefs. This went on for a good three or four rounds until we gave up in frustration. Getting basic water was even a struggle as they brought one bottle to share between six people and never came to refill until asked.<br/><br/>When the food finally came the disappointment was real. The $18 mango mojitos didn't taste like mango as it was mostly ice with some mango pulp floating around. The crumb on the calamari was soft and didn't feel like it was made fresh. Their $17 'Louisiana wings' tasted more like supermarket chicken nibbles, and the poutine was a plate of sad, soggy French fries. The only saving grace was the beef brisket nachos which were generous in portion size and wonderfully flavorful.<br/><br/>This experience has left me with a poor impression of this place and I wouldn't recommend dining here unless you're coming to enjoy the pretty lights.

Been here a few times for drinks and snacks and it's all been pretty great experience! <br/>Always wanted to try the dinner as I have always seen photos online of nice food! <br/>We tried the Thursday special steak with fries and sauce of the day. The beef burger and the fish nibble. <br/>The steak was very average, cooked to the right rareness that's asked for but the sirloin steak I think was frozen cut which made the texture I bit stale. Chip however was great! <br/>The burger was average but the cross cut fries were nice!<br/>Fish nibble was high light of the night! Awrsome batter and freshly fried! <br/>Overall I feel like they are awesome at frying food, as I have also had their onion rings better which was one of the better one in Auckland! Their beer and alcohol selection is not bad either! Might have to try some of their other mains to decide whether is worth going back for more food. <br/>

Loved this place! Went here for lunch with my girlfriends and ordered the chicken wings (which were the best I've ever had), pouting and quesadilla to share plus cocktails and we all really enjoyed ourselves. Defiantly would come again. Service was great also which is a bonus.

Bought a GrabOne ticket to use on a Monday that I'd taken off to be with kids as hours on website header say 11.30am to late 7 DAYS<br/>They aren't however open for lunch on Mondays. Asked for refund vis site was called by SAFFA owner to say of course but was then declined via GrabOne<br/>Dishonest and stupid, still hasn't fixed website header.

Popped into Citizen Park for a long overdue catchup with friends. I quite liked the lovely outdoor dining area which was perfect for this summer afternoon. The menu is a contemporary mix of Mexican and American influences and what I ordered worked for me. My taco was filling, meaty and had enough interesting things going on. Service at Citizen Park was mostly friendly and it’s an ideal spot for a working lunch or after work drink. The wing and burger options looked super serious and you can’t go past the flavour-packed social media influencer-must have hashtag fries.

Me and my cousin both chose to come to this restaurant as it was picturesque and beautful. Just like the restaurant itself the food was delicious and beautiful. I had a mango mojito I think it was and my favourite part were the desserts as we both found them unique and delicious.

Citizen Park Friday lunch time seems to be the new go to at work, good venue, decent food and of course the booze!<br/><br/>I had the brisket nachos with a few gin and tonics with a big old wedge of cucumber and ice.

Have been to Citizens for dinner a number of times and the food is always great.<br/><br/>It used to be one of our favourite places to eat but the new menu I think is slightly weaker. In saying that there is still a lot to like on the new menu. The habanero wings, burgers, ribs and pork tacos are all outstanding.<br/><br/>Service is good and pricing fair. Great atmosphere for a drink but gets a bit too busy on Friday evening. Cool vibes all round.
Lucyeatsakld
Came about half an hour after opening on labour Monday, which was the right time to come because we had our choice of where to sit but the place quickly filled up soon after. <br/><br/>The 2 dining areas both open and inviting and food and drink was brought out quickly, probably cos we got there before the rush. This was my first time trying poutine so I have nothing to compare it against but anything with fries and cheese gets a thumbs up from me. The jambalaya however was hands down the sourest dish I have ever tasted in my entire life. I almost wonder if an extra cup of vinegar was somehow poured in by mistake because holy hell it was brutal to the tastebuds. The sour and spicy was not a pleasant combination. <br/><br/>Would probably come back for a bite and drinks but will definitely be avoiding that particular dish.

This place and the set up look stunning which is why I grabbed a voucher from GrabOne when I saw they have an available one from this joint. Seeing the rate and reviews as well from Zomato made me want to try.<br/><br/>Today I had lunch with my boyfriend and the food was amazing and the service was okay. What disappointed me was the thing about the voucher.<br/><br/>As soon as we got on our table, the server showed us what we NEED to order to be able for us to redeem the voucher. It's one of the sections from the menu wherein I think the choices are a bit more pricey compare to others (correct me if I'm wrong) and then I was like "oh okay". I've been purchasing vouchers from GrabOne and I always make sure I read the conditions so I know what to expect when I get in the place but this one didn't mention anything that we'll need to buy a certain food to be able for the voucher to be 'valid'. I was disappointed because it was my first time to encounter such thing from using a GrabOne purchased voucher.<br/><br/>I do understand it's a 'policy' or whatever it is but they could have mentioned it from the page or told me first hand on the phone when I rang in for table reservation.<br/><br/>Despite the disappointment, this joint has a cool ambience and again, their food tastes really good. The service could have been better.

Loved the old prawn tacos! Had the new ones today and they were pretty average. The deep fried ones were good and so was the sauce. The atmosphere and service is still good!

After all the hype and seeing the fish burger on Facebook we had to get in quick before we missed out,so we made it today and wow the Hapuka burger was to die for could have easily smashed back 2 😜,and the coffee here is good we will be back on Thursday thanks guys...

We had been meaning to try citizen park for ages as the food always looks amazing on Instagram. We were out early so got there as they opened for lunch.<br/>We shared the burnt ends poutine and also the crumbed calamari. Both were really nice. The calamari was cooked perfectly.<br/>The food came out really quickly, a lady at another table also commented on how quick her meal came out. <br/>The service was excellent, the staff were all very friendly. I guess my only real negative was that it all felt very rushed and a bit awkward and we were out of there in less than 30 mins. I'm sure it would be a totally different experience if it was later and there were more people to serve. Hard to fault efficient service, it was just a bit of a weird vibe.<br/>I am looking forward to returning and trying out more things on the menu.<br/><br/>

We came here for lunch around 2pm on Sunday and the place is packed. It's good sign that this place should be good. Citizen Park nicely decorated. Customer service was okay, maybe they were too busy?  My girl friend ordered beef brisket nachos which was pretty good and the portion were surprisingly big. The hashtag fries has good flavour.<br/><br/>Customer Service: 6.5/10<br/><br/>Food: 7.5/10 <br/><br/>Atmosphere: 8/10 <br/><br/>Date: September 2016

We came here on a sunny Saturday afternoon. The service at the bar was lacking however the waiters on the floor were great. Highlight of the night was the beef brisket nacho. It was served on freshly prepared taco chips, good mixture of fresh condiments, generous portion of beef brisket, guac and sour cream. Our table also had a duck burger but this was disappointing as it didn't taste like fatty duck and personally I found the plum sauce too sweet. <br/><br/>The place was packed when we first arrived as people enjoyed the last of a sunny afternoon. It would be easier to find a table if you came around 6.30pm without reservation.

Love the atmosphere and love the food but the serving portions of some of the items doesn't cut it for me! In saying that, some items are absolutely huge. The pineapple in the quesadilla makes everything better.

Arriving in Kingsland on a busy game night, we wanted to eat at Citizen Park as we hadn't been there for a while. We weren't hopeful about food or service as these are often the first things to drop on a busy night, but we were very pleasantly surprised.<br/>Service from the moment we nabbed a table was friendly & engaging with good banter. Even when we were delivered the sad news that cocktails were off the menu as it was so busy, we couldn't complain as it was delivered so well.<br/>Instead we had bubbles & cider. They have a good drinks menu - the cocktails are really worth ordering though.<br/>For mains we had some tapas - the prawn taco & blue cheese habanero wings, as well as the rib eye steak. We were all very happy - delicious fresh food that really hit the spot. Even though we were full, we had to try their desserts as they looked so good! Banoffee (deconstructed) & creme brûlée with pineapple lemonade on the side. Both looked amazing & tastes delicious.<br/>A great night - we won't leave it so long next time between visits.

Amazing, inspiring and constantly surprising customers with new dishes. This place has very talented chefs! Ideal to catch up with friends or watch the rugby.

We were looking forward to trying this place after hearing great things about Citizen Park. We arrived at here just after 6pm on a Saturday night, and it was a little busy. We didn't have a booking so the maitre d very rudely fobbed us off to the bar until a table became free. We ordered two drinks and paid for them at the bar. Luckily we didn't have to wait long for a table to come free, and we were finally seated. We ordered the hashtag fries, cheese curd tacos and peanut butter wings, and everything tasted amazing. Our server was also very friendly and made sure we were attended to, which was great. We went to pay and had an entertainment guide voucher. The maitre d then redeemed the voucher on my phone. I then realised that he charged us again for drinks, which we already paid for at the bar. Asked for my money back and said, without much remorse, "oh I didn't realise." Upon leaving the restaurant, we then realised that we weren't actually honoured the 25% off that the entertainment book voucher was meant to give us, but after the hassle of being charged twice for drinks, we couldn't be bothered to go back, as the first refund seemed like the biggest hassle. A slight shame to the end our night, and we wish that the maitre d had a more hospitable aura to him, but regardless we did enjoy our food and the ambiance of the restaurant.

Went here for a late lunch and found this a pleasant surprise. Despite the lateness of the time, the place still had a buzz about it.<br/><br/>The menu was the standard American diner type fare with some nice additions to it. We opted for the pepper steak open sandwich and the duck burger (neither are on the menu here)<br/>Both were well prepared with the duck burger filled with meat and little filler, with a nice addition of the fried egg and runny yolk with provided a different dimension and sauce to the burger. <br/> The pepper steak was well cooked with the fresh addition of raw shallots which didn't overpower the sandwich at all .<br/><br/>The rootbeer float was classic and brought back memories of childhood rushcing back, with the classic A+W root beer topped with vanilla ice cream and cream. <br/><br/>Overall one place to return to with the tempters of other mains to be anticipated.

Great atmosphere and service. The lamb burger was very tasty! Rest of the team had the beef burgers, croquettes and beef nachos. The nachos were highly rated with generous chunks of smokey beef etc. Hash Tag fries were also very tasty. Cold beer and GNT and all good. Enjoy.

Cutest little place I've been to in a while, the outdoor seating is so nice on a sunny day. I came here for lunch a little while ago, we ordered the fish goujons and the burger, both were really enjoyable - small portions but the pricing was reasonable so it evens out. Drinks were quick and fresh and well needed!! Would definitely recommend for a quick bite in a nice place, love love love the vibe.

Had a quick after work drink and chips here last night. It would have been nice if someone had met us at the door or welcomed us when we were trying to find a seat so the welcome wasn't so great. I'm confused if it's a restaurant or bar when you get your own drinks and seat. The green plant environment and service from there on in was great. The gin and tonic was just what was needed and I (like probably lots of others) was fascinated about the chips. They were delicious. Towards the end a lovely girl came to take our plates and that helped me to end the night feeling like someone cared we were there. She was friendly and took the time to check in with us genuinely, they should be glad to have her!

The food here was decent, but the horrible service not just by 1 person but a few people working there, doesn't make the food worth it. I wouldn't recommend this place.

I love coming here to sit outside and have a tap beer and fried chicken. My idea of a weekend treat! Good service, there's usually some sport on the TV to keep up entertainment but it's never too loud or intrusive. Did I say fried chicken?

My husband and I had dinner at Citizen Park last week after work, second time for me to eat at this place but first for my husband.  He ordered the smoked BBQ pork ribs, I tried the single stacker Nuff said burger and we shared the fried fish taco. The pork ribs was such a delight, meat was very tender and falls off the bone very easily. The burger would have been excellent with a beer had we ordered one but never the less, it was still very much enjoyable to feast on. The only downside was, the serving of the very yummy chips that was included with the burger was small (probably, because I only ordered the single stacker). We also enjoyed eating the taco for its refreshing taste. The ambiance of the restaurant is very relaxing after a hard days work. Staffs were approachable and very much accommodating with all our questions. Overall, we had a fabulous experience here and would highly recommend this place! c")

Went here late on a Sunday arvo wanting some relaxing drinks and snacks however didn't realize the cricket had just finished and the place filled up like it was new years eve! However, managed to get there at the right time and managed to score a table. Order and pay at the bar for food and drinks. Food arrived pretty quickly especially for how busy it was. The prawn tacos were amazing! Plenty of flavour and you get two which was a great size. The prawn toastadas were good if a little too spicey for me and did get a little soggy. Cris cut fries, crunchy and fluffy but did need some kind of a dipping sauce although there was tomato sauce on the table. The staff were run off their feet but the place was so well run and organized. Would definetly go back for those fish tacos although would be checking what was on at eden park first!

Came here on a Monday after work. Awesome! Great outdoor space, buzzy but not packed, incredible and friendly service all night. Enjoyed the chomp ale on tap, fish tacos (omg delicious!!) and fries (also excellent).

We're big fans of this place. It's our go-to for drinks in Kingsland. The staff are awesome and the place is massive with tonnes of atmosphere. A great place to watch sport (husband). The menu is pretty extensive and has lots of choice to it. I often go for the nacho's, burger or a few of the parkside options. The smoked pork belly taco is superb - the mango adds a beautiful sweetness to the dish and it is delicious. Good value for money and there's a pub quiz on the Tuesday that is really well run. Great for big and small groups.

First time at Citizen Park, and I am in love with the decor!! Such a cool atomsphere, the indoor/outdoor option was perfect for a mild night. The menu had lots of yummy, fresh options...had a tough time deciding! We ended up having the prawn toastada, beef tacos and the wings with hot sauce. The tostada ws super fresha and tastey with a generous serving of avocado (bonus!!). While the steak was yum in the taco, it had the strangest flavoured sauce that I was not a fan of. It also had too much lemon rind. The wings with blue cheese sauce was initially a weird flavour but totally grew on me and I was loving them by my 4th one. I also had a mango mojito which was ok but had too much corinader and tasted a litlle bitter. Everything was fairly priced. Our waitress wasnt very friendly which was a bit of a let down and she didnt offer us more drinks/water/dessert once we had our food. <br/>The ambiance totally sold me here, ill be back for drinks in the sun and will be willing to try something new from the menu.

Service was terrible ! Took my staff her for a drink 12 in total would have stayed longer if the bloke with beard wasn't busy trying look like he was occupied after asking him if I he could take our drinks orders which I'd already written down for him, didn't say a word & pointed to the Bar as to say go up & order them yourself !<br/>We won't be back!

Popped I for a drink with two friends. <br/>Loved being back after a year. <br/>Great outdoor area space.<br/>Had a bubbles each and some calamari which was nice. <br/>Need to get some more reasonably priced bubbles by the bottle/ glass as would have stayed longer! <br/>

Lovely Sunday afternoon, the crew decided to go out to Kingsland of all places. To be honest I have never been to Kingsland before, so I was excited to see what was on offer.<br/><br/>Dining at Citizen Park, my immediate feeling was chill, quirky and lively. The indoor and outdoor layout of the restaurant is awesome and visually pleasant.<br/><br/>The layout rating by itself, would have been be a solid 4.5/5. <br/><br/>Our crew ordered a variety of dishes and we all noted how the meals all came out looking refreshingly green and 'fresh'. <br/><br/>Around the table, we noted that the wings were standard, burgers were EXCELLENT, the fries had tint of salsa which gave it a little punch. Pork Belly was soft and succulent however a bit steep at $30.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Calamari was unique, sweet with a faint tangy spice, delicious.<br/><br/>Overall grade: B+

Despite the Strange menu the place is really vibe with decent food and interesting recipes.<br/>Prices not too bad.<br/>Location is perfect and the bar has got a great selection of coctails. <br/>Recommended. <br/>Can do with an enhanced menu.<br/>

Very nice big bar / dining area with cool lights all over. Has a very nice indoor outdoor flow which would be really nice for both afternoon drink or dinner. Ambience would be top for me here. <br/><br/>The food is American themed, such as different type of wings, nachos, burgers, ribs etc you get the picture. I've had the nachos and spicy wings and they were good. I have alway been search for the best buffalo wings and this one is pretty good. The hot sauce is not spicy enough for me but still crispy and tasty. Share the nachos as it is a huge portion! Burgers looked generous with the patty too. <br/><br/>Price is reasonable for what you get. Service is well attended, not too bad!<br/><br/>Think the combination of drinks, good sloppy (in a good way) food plus the great ambience = good place to hang out.

One of my absolute favourite places to eat and catch up with friends in Auckland. Firstly the outdoor eating area is just so beautifully decorated with hanging lights, vintage coca cola seats, textured pillows and scattered trees. Love sitting out here, even in winter, as it's actually covered, and tables aren't too cluttered so I never feel like I'm awkwardly close to other patrons.<br/><br/>Wait staff are always very hospitable and seating time is usually very quick, despite it being busy from wed-sat evenings. <br/>Came here for coffee last Monday, but have come here quite often for drinks and food. Menu is always grazing type dishes- Southern American and South American inspired, with lots of quesadillas and tacos, as well as burgers on offer. Tried most of the non-red meat dishes, am a fan of the chicken or mushroom quesadillas (whichever is on the frequently updated menu), chicken wings and prawn tacos. Desserts always include a meringue/Eden Mess type concoction which is always my favourite. <br/><br/>Overall, a really fun and beautiful restaurant/bar. Come to enjoy the atmosphere and some great dishes to match.

I have been here a few times before and this time it was buzzing just like all the other times. There is a great outdoor area perfect for enjoying a drink in the summer weather. We were having a quick bite for dinner and I went with the single stack burger. It was so good! Great sauces with amazing flavour! <br/>I love how they do the chips here they are like a checker board which makes a perfect potato to crisp ratio. Amazing!

Came to Citizen Park for a birthday lunch for one of my work colleagues.<br/><br/>It was a beautiful Spring afternoon so we decided to sit outside. It was during the week so the place wasn't too packed - we had a handful of choices where we wanted to sit. Service was great. As soon as we sat down the waitress came along to ask if we wanted any drinks and gave us all menus. Food also came out fast once we had ordered. The waitress had mentioned that they change the menu up according to season, so you'll get the right amount of fresh produce with your meals. I was happy with what I had ordered and the rest of the team were chuffed as well. <br/><br/>This place had a great outdoors atmosphere and was perfect while the sun was shining. The outdoors section let the light breeze run through the area also. <br/><br/>I recommend Citizen Park to anyone wanting a quick lunch in the sun or even a causal drink. I definitely will be back.

Great place for a quick pub meal as you linger in Kingsland to beat rush hour. Came here starved after another desk bound sub par lunch. Menu had an American and Latin feel to it. We ordered hashtag fries and habanero wings to start which were promptly delivered and demolished. We upped the ante by ordering fish goujons, a sloppy joe torta, and their version of a chilli cheese dog. We were well stuffed by the end of it. Good food. Great vibe. Good service. This idea of pubbing to miss traffic has legs!

awesome atmosphere here and really brings a sense of community! love the layout of the place and the vibe is very infectious! had an amazing taco dish over a few beers and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience #g1

Excellent service, great food!<br/><br/>We went 8 of us was last tuesday night and we enjoyed the whole night .some had the lamb shanks and others had the fish and pork belly and NOBODY was disappointed..one of the best lamb shanks ever had ... thanks guys and will be back in near future.

Great vibe and venue, spacey and trendy<br/><br/>Good range of bites and beverages<br/><br/>Food was okay; had the tartos with pulled pork - it was a bit mushy and the cracklin pork kinda was out of place and out of nowhere and prevented me from enjoying the taste because i was busy chewing the tough pieces. Battered pickles were great but small portion considering price.<br/><br/>Price is a bit on the dear side ~30 for mains and ~15 for small shared dishes<br/><br/>3.5 Yums

After seeing photos of the burger with three patties in the photos, I knew I had to come here. We came for lunch on a Wednesday around 11:45am. They had just opened, so we were the first customers of the day and got to pick our seats.<br/><br/>I ordered the triple stacker burger, and my friend ordered the californian sushi roll and the steak sliders. We both got a coke float each!<br/><br/>Service was pretty good, the wait staff were friendly and attentive! <br/>The food didn't take long to come out at all. The burger was a lot smaller than I thought it would be, but I just managed to finish it, so the size was actually perfect for me. The fries were amazing. They came with chili salt on them, which i LOVED AND NEED IN MY LIFE. Seriously, amazing.<br/><br/>The sushi was pretty decent as well! The soft shell crab wasn't too bad, though the meat inside was quite soft and... watery. The sliders were good!!! I had to make sure I wasn't eating too much as I had a three patty burger to finish.<br/><br/>This seems like a pretty good place to catch up with friends! I will definitely come back for those fries!

Different menu with plenty of options for everyone<br/><br/>We ordered the vegetarian nachos and some red wine. The nachos were really good huge portion and delicious and we recommend the merlot as well. Was a very busy friday night but we managed to grab a table within a few minutes of ordering our drinks willll define try come back to try out the rest of the menu

Thursday night is pretty early in the week for the whole staff to be hung over and grumpy... Come on step up and host! Menu is interesting and enticing but 2 goes at duck fat potatoes and still raw? What is this. Little bird? Don't be a shit about it either chef. Good sloppy Joe and nice fries seaoning

Great atmosphere for drinks and catching up with friends. The menu is easy to read and well designed (although has changed since I last visited!). The service is good, the staff are friendly and well spoken but often need to be flagged down to get some attention. They have a good range of meals on there menu for a reasonable price.

This place seems to be fairly inconsistent. First time I went there with group of ten. Service was great, there was a fantastic cocktail for ten bucks. The sliders were great and the tacos were also pretty special. The place was full so I figured there would be a few hiccups, like a missed dish or miscommunication. But apart from one mistake made by our table everything was dandy. Fast forward two weeks and my partner and I need somewhere to go before a movie. We figured we'd both been there and liked it, so I notice there's a grab one deal and figure why not. 20 bucks for 40 bucks worth of food and drinks seems fine, we book a table, mention grab one etc. We get there and the place is largely empty apart from one loud table watching rugby. We get seated and order. We both get tacos, both tacos are average in flavour at best. We get duck fat chips which turn up half way through our meal, the chips are good - nothing to write home about and especially not worth 10 bucks or whatever it was - could have been more. I go to pay the bill feeling kind of let down by food and the atmosphere, only to have the manager say they wouldn't accept the grab one deal as we didn't order mains. Nowhere on their menu did anything say mains. Almost all the food was main size anyway. So I figured considering my bill was 90 bucks that surely they'd accept the deal considering they take a twenty dollar loss and get 50 extra which they probably wouldn't have gotten otherwise. And considering they were still new maybe they could afford to take a loss and get a happy customer. But apparently not, they've got enough customers, instead I was told it was my fault for not mentioning grab one etc. So I paid my bill with a smile, the manager said, "You can still use the deal for another month. " I said I probably wouldn't be back. Still yet to bother using the deal, don't think I'll bother neither. I would recommend this place for drinks but not if you want food as well.

NYC or Melbourne style.<br/>Highlight: The Hamburgers, the Mexican Menu and the beautiful Courtyard.<br/>I have been 5 times at this place and I always had a good experience.<br/>My favourites: The Habanero Mustard in the pickles are damn good, The Hamburgers are big and delicious I ask for the single and it comes with Chips enough for one person, Chorizo and fried potatoes Tlacoyo a different and real Mexican street style food, The Tamal with pinapple is perfect for the winter.<br/>Ambience: Bar, Cool type of Eatery, NYC style.<br/>Great For : Dinner with friends or watch Ruby Matches and party.<br/>Mommy friendly :? Yes at Lunch Time. Space for trolley and options for kids.<br/>☆ No changing room available

Just called in for a couple of coffees and cocktail on a cold Saturday arvo in Auckland. We where greeted & seated buy a happy face and very quickly offered drinks & water. Drinks order was placed and served nice and quick. Extra large long black coffee to die for, cocktails where nice but could have been served in better glasses, taste was good thou. Will most definitely be back.

I've always enjoyed coming here for drinks, mainly because of the company. On a few occasions I've had food, and really, I wish I hadn't. None of the food on the menu is anything special, and the nachos I had were downright gross. The large courtyard is pretty cold in winter, despite the plastic walls more and more places seem to think are adequate. Maybe if you've been drinking and can't feel the cold but I would warn against coming here for dinner. The customer service has always been pretty absent which isn't very American.
Troy Brownlie
A warm full of character dining space with capable friendly staff. The menu and food are encouraging but they deliver fairly averagely compared with their surroundings. Wings and tacos for lunch which sounds good but lacked punch and flavour so I drowned it in habanero sauce and then drank it down with an exceptional coconut cocktail.

Great atmosphere and service. Food was delicious however not all choices were available. Was very busy but wait times were absolutely reasonable
Bulking Steerco
Great little spot in Kingsland for lunch with a great variety of options in the menu. We got the beef brisket with homemade nachos which were delicious and definitely the winner of the day. Also got Pulled Pork Tacos and Bourbon Hot Wings which were awesome but nothing to rave about as i feel the description out did the actual taste. Overall would recommend for lunch dates and quick feed etc. Resonably priced too. <br/><br/>

I've been a little slack in not getting around to reviewing this excellent place.  My wife and I went there a few weeks for a latish lunch.  We ordered the fish and chips and were very pleased to get: a) value for money b) very prompt service.I'm used to waiting AGES for a main but this arrived shortly after the drinks and was nicely presented and really great in taste.I was impressed with the overall friendliness of the staff who genuinely seemed to have the time to chat BUT didn't ignore other diners.Good value for money and you feel that the welcome is genuine.  Keep an eye out for "Hannah from Ohio" who gives great service and could give a few lessons to wait staff at some other establishments.Who was it who said "I'll be back!"? Oh yes, good old Arnie well..."we'll be back!"
House Of Eats
This place is pretty cool! Super industrial/vintage fitout which features a weather censored opening roof court yard with an open fire. Its super cool on those starry nights. Must go with a group of friends. This place serves up great tacos, burgers and fries. The elderflower cocktail was nice but be careful to advise the bartender not to add a lot of ice in it, as it tends to get a little watery. Still all and all I quite like this place. Bar tender was super friendly and the service was pretty quick. I look forward to my next visit.

After reading the good reviews of citizen park, I expected a little more than what we experienced tonight. We walked in just past 7pm with about half the tables occupied. No one acknowledged us despite making eye contact a few times. A couple of minutes later, a lady yelled 'just take a seat anywhere'. And so we did. We had a look at the menu and decided on the garlic and herb rubbed sirloin w duck fat potatoes and the chorizo tacos. Food didn't take too long to arrive. The taco's were very standard but the steak was tender and juicy. My friend was very happy with the coleslaw on the side. At the end of the meal, we awkwardly stood at the counter waiting for staff members again. Definitely weren't enough wait staff on the floor tonight. I saw other diners struggle to get attention too. <br/><br/>I'd have to agree that the decor is cool though - very trendy. The neon lights add a little fun to the experience. I'm not in a rush to come back, but I guess I'm not against it either. <br/>

I'm amazed actually, definitely one of the highlights of Kingsland, and am once again surprised that I haven't made it here before now, considering it's been around for three years. Decor is superb (has to be seen to be believed...), the kitsch artefacts add plenty of atmosphere and the inside is nicel broken up into indoor and outdoor style settings. Menu includes lots of original Latin style dishes, which we really enjoyed. Service very friendly and the place fills up quickly on a Sunday lunchtime so make sure you get in early!

We went there yest, a rainy Fri for a shared lunch and it was nice and warm inside w. the heat lamps on. I've always liked the vibe @ CP. The staff are always friendly and upbeat, music pumping but not too loud and these guys have lifted their food game since I last visited, it's still pub grub, but they have some more substantial fare on offer too. We had the beef 'brisket' nachos, wings that were cooked in burnt butter, bourbon and candied pecans and the obligatory fries w. spicy aioli . The Nacho's were great, the brisket gives the Nacho's a totally different texture and the wings were beautifully spicy. Eaten hot. I ended up taking most of them hm as leftovers and then tried to them cold that evening for dinner. They are definitely better straight out of the oven, steaming hot. We thought the price was pretty standard for pub/bar dining too. Looking forward to going back w. A big group of mates.

We had such a lovely experience at Citizen Park. The staff were so conscious of my pregnant friend and knew exactly what went into the dish that she couldn't eat and prompted them to ask her if she wanted it taken out or not! Most places don't even bother! <br/><br/>I had the nachos and it was amazing how large the portion was! I wish I had two other people to share it with me but it was delicious. The beef was simmered so it was tender and was definitely different than just the normal slop of minced beef nachos. You could have rolled me out I was so full. <br/><br/>I will definitely be coming back again someday it was definitely a nice warm and inviting place to chill.
Don's Food Fiesta
Lovely setting with a fresh hipster decor to it. Staff are nice and attentive. The food was very pricey considering the portion sizes served. The quesadilla burger was impractical to eat without making a mess - the contents would fall out with every bite. Also they were very stinge with the lobster in my lobster burger. Would recommend this more a place to meet up with friends for a drink

We came to Citizen Park for brunch on a Saturday. Unfortunately they don't open for breakfast but we arrived at just the right time for brunch and to beat the crowds. We sat in the courtyard which can be covered in nasty weather and opened when the sun is out. The decor was awesome and made it feel like summer even with the roof on. There was a fireplace and vintage style decor that made my heart all fuzzy. <br/>The benches we sat at were canteen style and really comfortable. <br/>The coffee was filter but free refills for $4 on your initial cup which I thought was brilliant. The menu was a little different and I was really excited to try something new. I had the salmon and crab cake hoagie and my boyfriend had the lamb meatloaf hoagie. I enjoyed my filling but the bread was a little dry. It was almost stale like and there was far too much of it. I saw a lot of tables leaving the majority of their bread behind. Mike really liked his hoagie but found the same problem with his bread and he said there was a lot of cheese involved. He would have preferred it to be thinly sliced instead of a slab. <br/>I know others at our table complained about the service but to be honest I didn't notice. There was a beer incident but other than that I was happy to just hang out. It was a really relaxed atmosphere although I can imagine the staff to be a little stressed under pressure when it gets busy. <br/>I would definitely recommend Citizen Park for brunches, late lunches and even chilled drinking sessions in the summer. Bring a pair of sunglasses and a sunny attitude.

I came here for lunch today and it was awesome! When we first got there I was a bit iffy about the staff because no one seemed to acknowledge us, but as soon as they noticed us they were awesome. <br/>We ordered beef nachos, kumara waffles, and the pork tlacoyo. The beef nachos were so good! I wasn't expecting it to be topped with pulled beef. The tlacoyo was quite different but was tasty once you got used to the flavour. And the kumara waffles were perfect! <br/>Service was great, the food came really fast and was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more of the menu!

Came here for an early lunch (well noon), with some friends. I'd say it was the perfect time to come as it wasn't too busy and our food and drinks came quickly.<br/><br/>Situated in busy Kingsland, it can be hard to find parking. We opted for parking on the other side of the train station and walking through. Handy tip!<br/><br/>We got a large table for the six of us. The tables and chairs there are all wooden, not the comfiest for longer stays - noted now. Our table was situated in their patio area, and with it being a colder month the cover was on - I can imagine in summer it is a beautiful outdoor area!<br/><br/>We ordered drinks first, while deciding what to have to eat. Their coffee machine was broken (OMG) but they had bottomless filter coffee on offer. Not too bad for $4. <br/><br/>I ended up grabbing the pork Tlacoyos. It was a bit underwhelming on receiving but very very flavourful - it's a handmade tortilla bread that is slightly stuffed with refried beans beans and then your topping of choice on top. Sort of like a open sandwich.<br/><br/>Hubby ordered the Chilli Cheese Kumara waffles which were delicious and came with shredded beef. Not too much spice to them though which would've added another dimension. He also got a side of corn bread with maple butter. They were very tasty and sweet (as you would expect) but not very bitty as traditional corn bread is.<br/><br/>The waitress made a bit of an error when we ordered some beer, hubby said and pointed to the beer he wanted but she arrived with something completely different. She then came over after bringing the correct beer to try and understand what went wrong - not sure why but I feel like she should've left it as it made me feel like she was trying to say we didn't order what we ordered. Just my personal opinion though... <br/>Customer service is a huuuuge deal for me, so while I'm at it .. a lot if the staff could've done with a bit of a pick me up it seemed. Not many of them were smiling or seemed happy to be there. It's not like they'd just been through a breakfast service either as they only open at 11:30 on Saturdays.<br/><br/>Overall the food was grand, the service was ok, and the ambiance and decor were great. Will be coming back to try more of the menu and hopefully get some better, smiley, service.

I had a meeting in Kingsland a couple of weeks ago, so we decided to have lunch at at local eatery.  We spotted the Citizen Park and were immediately taken by the inventive selection on the menu and the physical surroundings.  As the day was reasonably fine and sunny we sat outside in the courtyard area.  The service was warm and friendly and we shared the Chilli  cheese Kumara Waffles, Beer Battered Onion Rings with New Orleans Ketchup and Blackened Corn/Mango/Avocado/Plantain Tacos.  All three dishes were full of flavour and taste and were ample size for a shared lunch.  We especially recommend the Kumara waffles as they were superb.

I had heard about this place through a friend. Burger &amp; Chips you can't go wrong. I had the venison burger which I found was just average for $18. Also the chips were stone cold.<br/><br/>Positives:<br/>The people were friendly and service was quick. <br/>Has an awesome vibe. Will definitely go back when they have a DJ playing.<br/><br/>3 1/2

We have been here a few times now with our kids and other family for weekend lunch. It is a great venue. We have found the food to be very good. They stick to. The basics and the burgers, chips, hot dogs and Nachos are excellent choices Well priced and friendly staff. Not sure where the bad reviews have come from but I recommend for a tasty, pub style lunch with reasonable prices. Also great with kids.

Had a great night last night-staff were totally on to it, helpful, prompt and friendly.<br/>Loved the pricing of the menu so those on a stricter budget could still enjoy a night out. There were 11 of us ranging from a 3 year old to 50+ and everyone enjoyed their meals and thought them excellent value for money. All meals arrived in good time which isn't easy with larger groups.<br/>Only negative was the Mojito lacked flavour perhaps cos the jug and glasses were full of ice so it ended up tasting a bit weak-next time I'll buy by the glass. Will definitely be back-so much more I want to try on the menu-the chicken burger and tacos looked amazing.

What a huge disappointment ! <br/><br/>Since when has it ever been cool to ignore your customers ?<br/><br/>We waited 30 minutes before one of my daughters went to the bar and ordered our food and drinks. I found this incredible in view of the fact that the female waitresses kept serving &amp; attending the tables around us. <br/><br/>We then waited a further 15 minutes for the drinks to arrive. I commented on the long wait to the waiter and he shrugged his shoulders. When the food arrived we had to ask for serviettes and condiments. The food was average. While deciding whether or not we would have more to eat, the waitress very rudely took our plates, wiped the table and removed the condiment container. I said to my daughters, "well that's, that, they obviously want us out of here &amp; don't want anymore business".<br/><br/> I am still incredulous at the bored and couldn't care less attitude of the serving staff. May be they think it is cool to be rude ? I would have spoken to the manager but he was not on duty apparently.<br/><br/>The owner &amp; manager need to give the staff training. The staff need to have a bath and wash their hair. It is not uncool to have a pleasant face &amp; display good manners. I work too hard for my money go back and to be treated with disdain. What a dud.<br/><br/>Like others we went along very optimistic and excited but actually considered leaving halfway through our bland, small, late arriving meals.<br/><br/>- We waited at our table for 18 minutes before waiting staff came over, we know this from checking a txt message from when we arrived. <br/>No water provided for the table, some of our drinks came in plastic glasses.<br/><br/>- The wait staff were slow, non attentive and frankly looked out of their depth. They dress hip though, and the restaurant looks great so at least they have that going for them.<br/><br/>- Meal prep time was fairly slow (but that's okay in a restaurant) and when the food arrived it was bland beyond belief. The $6 soft shelled 'pulled pork' taco sounded amazing on the menu but tastes like a not very good Mad Butcher pork sausage, the crispy chicken wrap at McDonalds has more flavour.<br/><br/>- As far as the $14 Classic Burger goes (very pink inside) I would suggest you save yourself the bum out and go to Carls Jr for a Guacamole &amp; Bacon thickburger.<br/><br/>- it's a personal thing but I don't like eating inside somewhere where dogs are at adjacent tables. Might just be me but it's a restaurant, leave your dog at home.<br/><br/>Good things:<br/><br/>1- got heaps of exercise walking from the park we found on 2nd Ave<br/><br/>2- beer comes in giant plastic jugs!!! That was actually a good thing<br/><br/>3- they have hot wings that are actually hot.<br/><br/>4- decor looks nice<br/><br/>Won't be going back.

We found this place to be strictly average. The portions were very small and very expensive for what they were. They were also really average in the taste department unfortunately. A couple of the wait staff were very nice, however what I assume was the manager totally needs to up his game. I was ignored by him twice - once when I went up to the counter to order some desserts and the next time when I went to pay. Both times, a frazzled waitress had to attend to me while he just stood there stroking his beard. On the plus side though, the space and decor are really great.

Wanted to try this place out, looks busy all the time so thought why not. My sister and I ordered Caesar salad and Banoffee pie. Was very dissapointed as the Caesar salad was overly coated in dressing (like dripping) that it was way too rich, the banoffee pie was overly sweet that it was not palatable at all! Like they had poured 10 cans of condensed milk into the recipe! It was overpriced and very dissapointing! This may be a place for drinks after work but do not go for any type of food!!

A large group of us had a great night at Citizen Park. Fantastic large, airy well-designed space. It was a busy Friday night and the place was full but it didn't feel overcrowded or that we were packed in. The staff were fun and friendly. We all really enjoyed our food. It was tasty and there were great choices for some who wanted a small snack through to others who chose to have a full meal. The steak I had was perfectly cooked and I had food envy of others which is always a good sign. Can recommend Citizen Park for a great night out!

Nothing special. I'm actually surprised by the 5 star reviews for this place, there are much better places in the CBD/Parnell/Ponsonby area which hit the mark on food, service and atmosphere.<br/><br/>We ordered a few items from the menu which were decent. Hot dogs and Caeser Salad were platable, but no one was singing its praises. The desserts had to be the worst I've ever had - best to steer clear.<br/><br/>Our party of four could not tell whether the service was excellent or poor. Our particular waiter was well spoken and charming, but had his rude moments. He also forgot our order twice. <br/><br/>Atmosphere was pleasant for a Wednesday night, typical scene kids looking for a casual night out. Judging from the orders of those around us, this seems to be the place for drinks only - no one was getting any food. <br/><br/>Also immensely disliked the stools.

We were looking forward to going here but we were sadly disappointed...the drinks are over priced and the meals were small for the price.....once the burger came out the buns tasted like they had been left out on the bench for 3 days...will never go back!

An affordable, nice option for lunch. The staff were hot.

Wow - this place is amazing! Such cool decor and a lovely outdoor area for if it's a sunny day. The music wasn't too loud either which is always nice. I almost don't want to write a good review so that I can keep this place all to myself! The food was amazing - I got the cerviche ($10) and the chicken taco ($6). I couldn't believe how affordable it was. One of my fellow diners got the chilli dog and fries ($10) which he was very happy with and another got the chicken quesadilla which she was happy with as well. 10/10!

decent place, always busy and no need to wonder because it also has good food with very affordable price. went there with my fiance and we only spent less than $35 for our dinner (nachos, burger and 2 bottles of beer). we thought it would come in very small portion (burger in very nice place for only $10!! including the chips). so, he bought extra chips but still can share it with me ($10 burger with chips was actually enough for him). very pleased to have citizen park in the neighbourhood

Went for the first time last night for a birthday celebration and it was lovely! Great setting and outdoor area (that was surprisingly warm!) Food was lovely - Friend and I shared 4 x small plates (all reasonably priced) and all absolutely delicious. The beef taco was a stand out... but then there was the pulled pork with little morsels of crackle! Mmmm, crackle. Wine list was well thought out with options for everyone. Staff were friendly and prompt. Only thing I didn't like was the very slippery concrete floor (probably coz I ended up on my bum!), but when I did fall, a lovely staff member rushed to check I was okay. Really nice night and will def be back.

Citizen Park.....Absolutely outstanding!!!<br/><br/>The food here is great, such a fantastic menu. Great selection of beers, wine and the service is second to none. <br/><br/>I have been numerous times and it is always such a great experience, well done CP!

My wife and I live in Kingsland and are always excited to see new restaurants popping up at our back door.<br/><br/>We were excited to see Citizen Park. With its cool outdoor area, retractable roof and inviting indoor area too - I was impressed. <br/><br/>The service is outstanding. The menu is also fantastic with Mexican accents. My absolute fav is the Californian Burger - amazing value and I'll put my name to it - you wont find a better tasting burger in NZ.<br/><br/>Great wine list, ice cold beers, awesome food, great people.<br/><br/>Why would you go anywhere else?<br/><br/>Well done Citizen Park.

Had a meal in the outdoor area<br/>They were qute busy<br/>The food and service were both very good given it has just opened<br/>Try it<br/>Parking is no issue<br/>Plenty of parks in Sandringham Rd and an easy walk through<br/>station<br/> <br/>We had dinner here last Friday<br/>Quite busy<br/>Staff attentive without being pains<br/>Food & drinks very good<br/>Calamari top notch<br/>Beef Short rib Brisket in Bourguignon style also superb

Nice bar with a street food concept.<br/><br/>Our service when we got it was great, however our waitress was so over worked she could not keep up. The place was not overly busy but she seemed to be the only person serving outside on ANZAC day afternoon. <br/><br/>There were huge gaps in each of our dishes being served despite the orders being taken at the same time. I had to wait another 25 minutes for mine. The Green Chilli Dog was nothing special, the chips were soft and lacked crispness but the fish taco was good.<br/><br/>They also have a strange wine list by the glass, where nothing stands out and there are no old favorite backups.<br/><br/>Not worth driving around Kingsland to find a park for.

I was a bit sceptical heading to this place after reading the reviews. My fiancée suggested it after a recommendation from a colleague. Turns out I was worried over nothing. Service was friendly and the food very good. We waited a while for the dessert but the staff were really on the ball other than that. Prices were about average for Kingsland and now I've tried it I would probably go back to try more dishes.

A group of us went here last night to try it out. I read the reviews after organising to meet there and was a little worried. I was however pleasantly surprised. The fit out is really modern, open and fresh. Inside there are really only a couple of tables that are low close the windows with the others being bar stools some with back support and others not. Our group found the food to be excellent. The Tacos are really filling for just $6. One of our group had a steak and it was cooked to perfection. It was overpriced though at $32 - no complaints though. Others tried the burgers and they were really good. The only comment here is that they served the burgers in red plastic baskets. This place is like a bar with really good snacks that are food size. We did not know whether we would be served so went up to the bar to get our starter drinks and then were told someone would serve us. This didn't happen though so we had to find someone again at the bar'to help us at least three times and when we had finished no one came to clear the baskets and plates.' We had a nice time and would go back for lunch as it seems more like a lunch place or a night out at the bar with food. I should also mention that we got the calamari to share and although it did not look appealing it was perfectly cooked and tasted great.
David Mckay
A great bar with plenty of space for a large group. There were 10 in our party and we had great service, and good food and it didn't cost the earth.<br/><br/>Loved the ribs. <br/><br/>Just wish they had more craft beer.

We went last night for a bite to eat after the Breakers game. The fit out is excellent, the place looks fantastic. <br/>The food on the other hand is not so good, average at best and the pricing is extortionate! 8 pieces of greasy deep-fried squid for $14.00. There was very little flavour at all, as I read these other reviews, our comments on the food were similar. Over whelming lack of food on a plate but also flavour. I get high priced food, but you need to get something for your dollar. Maybe their mains are better.
Jamanius
Be warned of the w*nky pricing and if hungry, don't eat here unless prepared to buy several of the tiny dishes. Seriously - we ordered the baja cervche - raw fish and prawns. $12 for 3 prefrozen tiny prawns and 4 bits of fish that were the size of a dollar coin! Seriously - these guys have potential but the arrogance of charging such a price for a joke of a smattering is just through the roof. 10 points for outdoor seating but 0.5 on food
Marek Drumsound
Ordered food and nothing came, ordered again and parts came. Was billed for all the food and had to argue to get it down, left without people eating and having had to argue to get money off the card. Run terribly with below average staff. Definitely not recommended.
Premi
Pretty poor. But ok for trendies they should keep this place going. Nothing worst then going to a bar on a hot day and hopping for chilled glass of wine and getting warm wine in a warm glass at high price.
NomNomPanda
Disappointingly average, despite the promising interior decor. No one came to serve us, so we fetched menus ourselves. When the waitress finally came to take our order, we discovered we could not have a sandwich - in fact, the entire sandwich section was no longer available. We then ordered mushroom tamales.<br/>Waitress: "Oh, sorry, we don't have that either."<br/>Us: "Is there anything else we should try not to order?"<br/>Waitress: "Hopefully not, but something might come up."<br/>Food, when we finally got some, was nothing to write home about. The shrimp taco was underseasoned and served in a cold tortilla. The tequila fried oysters, though delicious themselves, came with a dried and wrinkly wedge of lime. The mushroom burger was simple and good in a Chinese-European-takeaway kind of way, but served with soggy fries. Was so looking forward to liking this place.

A group of us went back here this week for a birthday celebration. It was busy but they soon found us enough space and happily explained the menu.<br/><br/>I had a Pork and Fish Taco. Both were only $6.50 so for $13 I was full. They were both really nice and had a good zing to them. My partner had the Ribs and was very happy with them, and rather full as well. <br/><br/>As there were a few of us we were all able to taste each others selections and we all agreed that we would definitely be back soon.<br/>

Love this place. Just shared lunch with a friend. the undercover courtyard really makes it. We had littles to share and they were sooo yummy! recommend the tacos. Definitely going back. maybe this weekend even

Citizen Park is amazing! There was quite a big group of us so we could order lots of dishes to share. The duck tamale was delicious as was the pork slider. And the dirty bird chicken was almost addictive! Definitely be going back again food and atmosphere was awesome, great addition to Kingsland!

Poor food, took friends from Vancouver here as the place looked really cool from the outside. Serving sizes were small and tasteless. So embarrassed to have taken friends there, spent $26 on a main that none of us enjoyed. Dry flavourless coleslaw on the side. Was so disappointed as the place appears to have so much potential. Hopefully this was just a bumpy start. However for the price we paid, would expect more than a few pre frozen prawns on a taco. Awesome setting though, just need to sort out the kitchen.

Not impressed at all about this place. Maybe I just had a bias experience but the service was not nice and the place did not seem to be very alive when I have visited in the past. Did not even try the food after a long wait drinking a beer I did not really like much.

My friend and I visited Citizen Park on Sunday afternoon for a drink and something to nibble on.<br/><br/>The decor is great and we were given the choice between sitting inside or outside in their lovely courtyard. We picked the courtyard. As a graphic designer, I loved their simple, easy to follow menu. We ordered an old fashioned lemonade jug to share and a basket of chips. Both were delicious. The services is good, just the right amount of attention.<br/><br/>We paid $16 each for a cocktail and shared chips. <br/><br/>I’ve been to Citizen Park for drinks before but still yet to come for a proper meal. The food coming out of the kitchen looked great, particularly the ribs and the burgers. Now that I have experienced food envy, I will be back to try a proper meal.<br/><br/>Update 17 December 2015: <br/>SECOND VISIT!<br/>I came to Citizen Park for dinner and drinks with two friends on Tuesday night. We didn’t have a booking but this was fine as they weren’t too busy.<br/><br/>Drinks orders were taken and while we perused the menu, we shared an order of cheese stuffed fat fingers with artichoke and spinach dip. This was cornmeal based and delicious with a generous amount of dip.<br/><br/>We were very indecisive about the menu (too many delicious sounding options) so asked our waitress what dish was her favourite. Without any hesitation she advised us of the “chorizo and clams”. I love a good surf and turf and both my friends agreed this dish had my name all over it.<br/><br/>The clam and chorizo dish was delicious. Spicy and flavoursome. It comes plenty of sauce so I asked for a side of rice to mop it all up. I would highly recommend the chorizo and surf clams but make sure you get a side of rice too.<br/><br/>My friends both ordered Tlacoyos (pronounced tla-COY-yo): one slow braised lamb and one chorizo halloumi. We didn’t know what Tlacoyos were but the fresh corn tortilla and refried beans sounded good. Unfortunately, Tlacoyos weren’t the regular tortillas we were expecting but more of a toasted corn cake which was a little tough to eat.<br/><br/>We were pleasantly surprised by the food. My friend mentioned that she thought they served hot dogs and burgers, which I think they did once. They still have burgers on the menu but it’s not a big feature.<br/><br/>Service is good when we get it but it can be hard to catch someone. We had to shout “Excuse me!” to get service a couple of times as servers walked past too quickly to notice us. It would be helpful if servers walking through the dining area actually looked around for the people trying to get their attention. Our water was kept topped up and we stayed a little while chatting after our plates were cleared. We were never asked to move on or feel like we should give up our table.<br/><br/>Bill for an appetiser, 3 meals and 3 drinks with a gold card discount came to $72 or $24 per person. I will be back.

Loved this place. Went for a meal before the rugby, which seems to be a popular choice for a lot of people. Great service, great atmosphere and great steak!

Had a funky experience dining at Citizen Park this weekend. The place is bustling, busy and full of character. The waitress was very attentive and helpful. I like their menu; it's trendy, tasty and straightforward. Tried their deep fried squid; despite it being on the salty side I liked it (as lately I've been disappointed by my deep fried squid craving search). I had the Tokyo Chicken burger, which was karaage chicken with wasabi mayo. I found it a bit one dimensional and was a bit disappointed, although others liked it. I had a bite of their Bushman burger... this was very, very tasty (but you need to be careful when biting as I found my pants splashed with beetroot relish afterwards). Tried their ceviche, nothing to shout about but still decent taste.<br/><br/>I love their feijoa cider on tap, that was delicious! Had three and still wanting more. They also have bottomless filtered coffee that was really good value I reckon.<br/><br/>It can be a bit loud there during dinnertime... felt like I had to scream to talk to my friends!

Citizen Park has been on my 2014 Dining Wishlist since the beginning of the year and I finally made my way there for a catch up lunch with my dining companion. Located in Kingsland, this effortlessly cool eatery has an amazing trendy and laid back vibe. Citizen Park has great indoor and outdoor flow with a large courtyard that has tables of varying sizes and I personally love the industrialised charm and the steel frame shelving.<br/><br/>We made the most of the stunning weather on Sunday and sat in the courtyard so we could enjoy the sun as well as the food. There was ample choices on the menu, but we both ended up ordering the tuna salad. The use of fresh ingredients was very evident in this dish. The slices of confit tuna were perfectly prepared and kept the fatty fish moist and fresh. This combined with potato, blanched green beans and pickled red onion, made the perfect salad. I’ve been loving anything pickled and the red onion in the salad gave a sharp tart taste which helped neutralised the fatty tuna. The use of pine nuts gave it a nice crunch and we both cleared our plates with ease.<br/><br/>Despite the portion looking small, the size was very adequate for us. The combination of the starch in the potato and the fish is rather filling and we left with a very satisfied belly!<br/><br/>Throughout the lunch, we had very attentive service and the staff were friendly and courteous. Overall, Citizen Park is an ideal location to sit back and relax; the ample street parking around Kingsland is a bonus! If salads are not your thing, their menu offers more hearty options like burgers and hot dogs. I look forward to coming back and trying their tacos and baby back ribs!<br/><br/>Like this review? Citizen Park is a funky new hot spot in Kingsland. With a big outdoor courtyard, large communal tables and super-helpful bar staff, this place is a good spot to while away the lazy summer afternoons.<br/><br/>Their menu draws from American/Mexican style snack foods - think tacos, wings, hot dogs & burgers. Their beef brisket sodft taco is deliciously more-ish, with the tender beef melting in your mouth alongside the crunch of the haystack onions. The ceviche tasted fresh & zingy with plenty of avocado.<br/><br/>We'll be back in summer to enjoy the courtyard.
