Lovely food all the food was so fantastic everybody cleaned their plate!!! Server was accommodating even though we were massively steamed. Will come again!! I got the crispy pork belly and recommend to anyone reading

Wonderful night at our work Christmas party. The staff were so lovely and accommodating and really put the extra effort in to manage our numbers and variety of dietary requirements. Super cheap as well and BYO. Highly recommended for a group get together.

For a catch up dinner, we tried Pok Pok Thai in K Road and manages to arrive prior to a large party due arrive, so we were encouraged to order before the encroaching group. The restaurant was cute and quaint, staff was very friendly and particularly nice enough to advise of a pending 22 people expected to arrive. We ordered a mixture of entrees including deep fried chicken spring roll, sweet sticky pork belly and chicken satay. The outstanding highlight was the exquisite pork, so sticky, sweet and unctuous morsels of tender yet caramelized in texture. For our mains, we settled on coconut poached salmon and the Tom Yum prawns. The salmon was exceptional tasting, delicately cooked and beautifully presented in a fragrant red curry coconut cream gravy with lemongrass mushrooms. Iā€™d like to try more of the menu as there was several simple but impressive dishes. Pok Pok Thai is a fantastic find delivering a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Highly recommended!

Nice Asian restaurant. The food is really tasty and portions are big in comparison with other restaurants. Need to be ordered inside. The service wasnā€™t really fast. The restaurant is next to the road, so itā€™s a bit noisy.

BEWARE: it takes a couple weeks to stop thinking about the Crispy Pork on Rice. So much that we went again only 3 weeks after and I didn't even need to look at the menu, I ordered it again. 11/10 guys. Pork aside, the place is great, staff are so awesome, atmosphere is buzzing! A special mention to the money bags too weeeeoww, like no other!!

Great food at a great price! Lots of options to go through, so I'll definitely be back to try some more! The caramelised pork belly was divine.

One of the best thai food in town

We came here without a booking and were able to get a table. Great service, was just one guy on the floor and he was working so hard, yet still managed to have high energy and genuinely friendly. Food was delicious too. Definitely recommend! Great serving sizes for the price- good value for money
Sarah
You definitely need to book for this place on a weekend! The service was good and the food prices are great, and serving sizes are quite good. It is VERY loud as it seems to be the place to byo (admittedly that's why I was there too) so don't expect a peaceful dinner on a weekend evening! Well done to the staff for getting food out relatively quickly when they were fully booked! Would definitely come here again.

It gave me the best Thai food experience compare to other restaurants I had visited.. I will recommend this place to my friends! šŸ˜āš”ļø

Had a wonderful night with my friends, with great food and terrific atmosphere. Our server Pat was also terrific.

Absolutely fantastic. Asked which items on the menu were vegan and they said any of the mains could be made vegan. We had three entrees and three mains, all delicious and our picky 6yr old was very happy with the options available Staff were friendly and helpful, the dining area was comfortable and tidy, timing on dishes brought out was excellent and price was cheaper than expected

POK POK scammed me with Uber Eats. They gave the driver our food and then took it back from him while charging us the full bill for the food and delivery even though we received nothing. I usually don't like posting negative reviews but this restaurant literally scammed me out of $80 + a delivery fee :(

Worst service ever experience and will never visit this crappy shop again, worst place to dine in..not a friendly place to dine. Do not recommend..

Yummy Thai food on k road! Would recommend the crispy pork belly main and the chicken wings! Succulent and melt in your mouth with a nice amount of chili and basil leaves! The Chiang mai curried fried noodles were tasty with a thick coconut like broth but I felt it didnā€™t pair well with thick egg noodles. Too many crispy noodles on top which made it hard to eat. Overall yummy food! Will be back!
Noah
Didn't initially like the look of the menu due to it being focussed around "modern thai" however was greatly surprised! Everyone I sat with thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Highly recommend Mussaman Curry with Wild Goat

Purchased voucher from Groupon for $15. I'd say this deal was worth my $$. Phad Thai was tasty. Salmon was alright. Pleasant atmosphere, nice waiters.

Iā€™ve been wanting to try this place for quite some time now but schedule could get in the way until now. Located in the popular street called Kā€™ Road in Auckland, this place is sandwiched between multicultural restaurants and strip clubs but apart from the hustle and bustle of this street you will find peace within its premises surrounded with amazing aroma from the kitchens.

Been to a fair few BYO's in my time but Pokpok takes the crown. Came with a group of 12 and couldnt fault the service or food. The caramelised pork belly was butter soft and the brisket green curry was all sorts of delicious. Will be back!

The food is really delicious. The price versus portion of servings is quite fair. The ambience was nice and very accessible. The staffs are nice, friendly and very accommodating.

WOW! amazing food! everything we ordered were so full of flavour. We had the Crispy spring rolls that had a warm and peppery flavour,Papaya Salad which was crunchy and spicy. The Pad thai though I felt lacked fish sauce but nice and moist. The prawn tom yum soup was rich and spicy but i thought was a bit too sweet which overpowered the sourness. Overall, really happy with the food and service also great. We also went at the wrong time as there was a large group and we coulld barely hear ourselves talk so ambience wasnt great.

Their wings and beef green curry are my absolute favourite and Iā€™m always craving them!

Just so people know, this is more of an asian fusion restaurant, not your typical Thai restaurant take away kinda thing, which is what I think some of the negative reviewers think it is...

Delicious food and Iā€™ll keep coming back for sure. Keep it up.

Food was great! Would give 5 stars for the chef.
But overall the custoner service was so bad.

We walked in but the waitress finger point the table from the counter desk and made a gesture to sit wherever you want instead of guide us. Waiting for someone come and ask for order or explain the menu. No one coming. Looked at menu but no drinks there so I went to the counter and ask if they sell drinks. She finally gave me the drinks menu.

Order one bottle of wine and waitress came back after 15 mins and says they don't have that wine. We choose the other one says no again. So we choose what they have.

The resturant was only 25% full but food came out so late. No one come around and check if everything ok but we had to go to counter to tell what we would like to order more. Paid bill and leave the place and we realised we haven't heard sorry or thanks from anyone in this place.

Food was great, we got a range of the small plates items including the soft shell crab, satay chicken, caramelised pork belly, spring roll and the papaya salad. All were great, I especially loved the caramelised pork so soft and the fat just melted in your mouth. Food also came out really quick, especially because there were two large groups also ordering food. 100% recommend, Iā€™ll definitely be back for a BYO night with friends!

Super delicious, I reckon itā€™s a bit underrated. Everything weā€™ve tried were all soooooo good. Out of all the dishes weā€™ve tried, top 3 would be the Wild Goat Curry, Beef Brisket Green Curry, Coconut Poached Salmon. Service wasnā€™t the friendliest though, the waitresses were always cold and angry. Friday and Saturday evenings could be a bit rowdy with lots of BYOs.

We had ordered some food from Pokpok based on the great recommendations from some of our friends. However, it was extremely disappointing with the food that was being delivered to us. We had done a takeaway for a Papaya Salad, Massmum Curry with Wild goat and pad thai chicken noodle. The papaya salad was not worth $18 for the quantity which was being served to us. There was barely any salad in the container and we felt very cheated for the price we ended us paying for the entire meal. It almost felt like an half empty container with some little shredded carrots being put together in the container. Also the Massamum curry, which we paid $22, felt more like a $5 dish as there was barely any curry nor meat in the container.Ā

Very disappointed and will never recommend Pokpok, as its not worth the price you pay and the quantity. A refund was neither being offered nor did they pick up the call after we ordered the food.

We had to order additional takeaways, which costed us more. Had we known that Pokpok is not value for money we wouldn't have ever gone to this restaurant in the first place. Very very disappointed with the staff and service. Not recommended, for someone looking to get a decent meal for your money.

Nice place with good service. The food was tasty and authentic. Only downside was that the portions were a bit small. The ambiance of the restaurant was nice too.

Food is so good! Ordered pad thai and green curry with beef brisket. So yum especially green curry. Serving size is average, some might say food is overpriced. Pokpok wings were yum but overpriced (4 wings for $10).

$3 corkage, free wifi, very large wine glasses (id say 500ml, but Iā€™m no pantomath) and 2ply toilet paper. What more could you want?! We had the goat curry, pork belly (oooooohweee so good) and chicken wings (donā€™t tell my friend Brooke, I told her I was going vegetarian last week). But honestly, I donā€™t even know where to start. The food was šŸ’Æ!!!!! Unsure if it was because I was intoxicated or not lol - youā€™d be silly to not take advantage of that $3 corkage. But yeah back to business, if I were you, I would defo go to Pokpok. And to all you vegans out there, if youā€™re thinking about eating meat again, this is where Iā€™d start.
Linda Reilly
Went here recently.Ā Food overpriced, very small portions, Rice cold,Ā service not great. Would not go back here or recommend. Was pretty busy with a lot of groups. (so you would think that everyone had pre booked, looked like they were not prepared at all......very disappointed.

A fresh looking place with professional staff and excellent service. The food was really delicious, I canā€™t believe how good the curried noodle was, worth every single cent! Though the music was annoying me quite a bit unfortunately.

Beautiful Thai restaurant with cool vibes! They are still very busy on a week day night at around 8:30pmish for dinner and there's a reason- it's got a variety of small and big dishes to choose from and they are all priced reasonably. Voted as one of the top metro cheap eats, it's also a great place for byo and drinks!
Tom
Funny reading some of these reviews that were negative. I am a frequent flyer here, food always on point, have brought so many different friends and family here and always been great. Food portions are great for the price you pay, I think itā€™s a little unrealistic to think in this climate for Asian food to stay cheap, yet a burger from the likes of ā€˜boutique jointsā€™ are $16-$20 each. Keep up the good work team šŸ‘ŒšŸ½

šŸ· Went for a byo with a large group. Food was on the pricier side, a friend and I got two of the smaller $10 plates (pictured) and shared. Not huge portions but the satay and pork belly were tasty. I can imagine if you didnā€™t like a lot of fat on your meat you probably wouldnā€™t like the pork belly though and if you were hungrier would recommend getting with rice.

Unfortunately the timing of the food was way off, with around 30 minutes in between the first plate arriving on the table and the last plate which was pretty poor. My friend had to get up and ask after her food...Service was nothing to write home about but it was a BYO on a Friday...
Dee
Service was ok, they had a new person when i was in so the main server was serving and teaching at the same time, flavor is there, not your typical thai restaurant its more modern thai with european flavors. Portion sizes are small for the what you are paying. not my everyday kind of place
Rachel Liew
Service was awful. Taste was awful. Portions were ok but considering the price and what you get overall it is not worth trying. Once is enough.
Michael
Extremely middle-of-the-road Thai food...I have had better in a food-court. Dishes were lacking in any fresh aromatic punch or heat. Had deep fried soft shell crab which wasn't crispy and had no lime or herb kick...just some bean sprouts and bits of onion. Moo Grob pork dish was dry and sweet..some coriander or basil would have helped rescue it. Brisket curry was ok but again it was lacking heat and herbs. For a place that claims northern Issan influences, none of those fresh zingy flavours were there at all. Service was very average also. Place was empty when we arrived, then after being seated for a while we were moved to another equally empty bit of restaurant. Online booking didn't work and no one returned phone messages. Service was inattentive and no one wanted to know if our meals were good, or if we wanted another drink. Wait staff mostly hung out behind the counter chatting in a group. Bad form overall. If you are wanting proper Thai food( zingy aromatic herby and hot ) then don't go here. šŸ˜

Went here after getting a groupon voucher - deal was for $15 for $30 worth of food. The fod took so long to arrive, and the portion sizes were so small we were shocked. 4 small chicken wings for $10 - and one was cold on the inside! The size of the other dish wasn't worth the dollar value either. I wonder because they knew we had the voucher they deliberately made the portion sizes smaller. I'd say we got food worth the $15, rather than the $30 as the voucher advertised. Taste of the food was very good though (aside from the cold chicken). Below average experience overall, will not be going again.

The pricing and size portions were abysmal for the taste which was mediocre at best... This fine dining restaurant is not worth it... if u like Thai food... I was shocked on the crab salad... wasted money SMH

Been here for dinner a couple times, the service isn't always very attentive but I haven't faced any major issues with them. The food has always been tasty, I especially recommend the basil chilli pork belly, always great.
James
Great place to sit and people watch along k road. It's always busy here so it's probably a safe bet to book a table.

The restaurant itself is quite small and you'll end up sitting quite close to other people.

Small menu and it is a bit easy to miss that there are also more dishes on the back of the menu. Standard Thai food with a few unique fusion options.

Make sure you give the chilli jam chicken and pork belly a try!
Ellynn
Celebrated my close friend's birthday here and the food was good. It was pricey though so definitely use a voucher from groupon. There were four of us and our bill was 78$ so good thing there was a voucher. The portion size was pretty small for the price but the taste definitely made up for us.
Vincent
Took me 45 mins for the food to come while the restaurant is not really busy at all . The food was just average- dried chicken . Last time we come was better than this ... please improve
Peter Chan
20 dollar chicken was dry as a brick, pad Thai was overly too sweet, soft shelled crab was good but the salad on top was completely pointless and OTT.

We went there for my mumā€™s birthday dinner. We ordered two entrees and four mains. The food was below average and costly. The portion size was very disappointed, which was extremely small. My boyfriend did not feel full even with rice. The service was poor. One of the waitress could not speak or understand English. A bad dining experience. We will not go there again.
Melody Zhou
Ordered the wings for the entree and the paprika chicken for the main. The entree was good and crisp but pricey, for $10 you only get 4 wings. The main was an absolute disappointment. The chicken comes out dry. The only thing special about the chicken and one you get from the supermarket is that this chicken has a dash of paprika powder on the top along with some sweet and spicy sauce. Would not recommend this main and for $20 you are getting a complete rip off. Absolutely disappointed with this dish and honestly have a few choice words about what I think about the chicken.

Just cruised into this place for dinner. It's not bad but it kinda added up. The service here was not very attentive. You could see the staff behind the counter on their phones and chatting amongst themselves. We were literally the only ones at the restaurant on a Saturday night during dinner time (6.30pm). Very quiet which we were quite shocked about. Took them a while to come over and finally take our order.

The spring roll we ordered - disappointing. It was just a WHOLE spring roll cut in half so it looked like "2 pieces". The soft shell crab was covered with bean sprouts. Wth??

I ordered the coconut poached salmon and I was quite shocked to see how small and thin the piece of salmon was in an ocean of coconut "soup" was. It tasted nice but it wasn't satisfying

Also while we were dining here, there was a group of 4-6 people who came in asking for a table and the ladies behind the counter told them they were fully booked. Like what?? You serious?? It's practically empty. Only me and my partner were dining there for the past hour. They had one group of girls who had come in afterwards and that was it... Did not understand why they would turn the other group of people away...

Definitely won't be coming back to this place.

Used to really rate Pokpok but on a recent visit on a Sunday night found the service to be mediocre. Ā When we walked in only one other table was occupied Ā so I asked for the empty table by the window. I was told no and was directed to a back table Ā i assumed it was because the window table was booked but no one came in so I suspect they didn't want to re-set it. Ā When we ordered 2 entrees and 2 mains and a salad the waitress asked us did we want it all together. Ā We said no we will have the two small plates as entrees and the large plates and salad as mains - to be brought separately. Ā What did they do? Ā Brought all five dishes together (sigh). Ā Annoying having all the food at once and it seemed they wanted us to eat quickly and go. Ā Food was still pretty ok though, but if they turned the loud pop music down a tad and concentrated on the service (rather than talking amongst themselves) I would have given it a definite 4. Ā Having read the other reviews here it seems service is an issue with others too.

Was told not to be put off by decor, but the decor is a sign of how very mediocre the food is. Nice and clean place, with excellent service. Unfortunately the food flavours were very pedestrian; in fact; I swear that the padthai was largely flavoured with Watties tomato sauce. Very disappointing-will not return
Aimee.
This place has a nice clean atmosphere with good service. The waitress was happy and attentive towards us. The food cane out really fast. However. I think you can definitely get better quality and quantity at another place. The portions arenā€™t really big even if you get the ā€œlargeā€ size. Especially the desserts. $10 for one scoop of ice cream...

Really quick service. The food came so fast! It was quick and yet well made. I'm happy with the presentation quality of the food too. Hiiiighly recommend. It was a happy accident that we stumbled upon this restaurant.
Bella Luv Food
We came here with a voucher from Groupon and had no problem using the voucher. We had the Prawn padthai and Poach Salmon in Coconut sauce. Padthai was nice and coconut sauce had a special tangy Flavor which not my favourite but my husband liked it. Very average standard so I would say the price will be a bit high without using a voucher. Mains are around $18-$22 and the portion is quite small compared to other places. Also none of the dish includes rice so you would need to order rice for extra $2.
Eniboo
Great place to eat! Nice small place which creates amazing smells from the kitchen leaving you hungry from the second you step in if you weren't already. Fast friendly service. Everything on the menu is fantastic. Pork belly is definitely Ā the favorite. Cant go wrong with a BYO. This place is one of our favorites
Abhi R
Pokpok has great food at reasonable prices. It is definitely a step above its neighbouring restaurants and offers some very unique dishes when compared to other Thai restaurants in Auckland.
We particularly enjoyed the Pork and Prawn Rolls, and Caramelised Pork belly. The Wild Goat Massamun curry was also delicious!
Will definitely be returning to this establishment.
Only comment on what needs to be improved would be the attention of the wait staff, who tend to talk among themselves and not realise that customers are waiting to place an order or ask them a question.
Michael Riordan
Went with a table of 10 on a Wednesday night.
Found the service to be very uninterested and every time we needed a drink( beer from their bar not byo) we actually had to go up to the counter and interrupt the 2 waitresses conversation!!
The food was pretty good but felt the service let the place down.
Jasveen Kaur
Have eaten in and had takeaways. Small menu but everything is done well. Takeaways were packaged appropriately but did need a bit of heating up when we got home and we were literally 5 mins away. But the food is delicious and reasonably priced. Try the soft shell crab and chili chicken.
Brad Vidovich
On the first glance it looked to be a great place and rear service, I was not that hungry so got a couple of small dishes. I decided on the duck spring roll and pork belly both cooked to perfection with amazing dipping sauces. I will be back and recommend to all and regular place to go to when in town
Ida
I went here for a BYO, and it was delicious and they were very accommodating for our group. It is pricey though, as is corkage. Additionally, this restaurant is often very busy and loud during fridays & weekends so you will have to book in advance or arrive early.
Prisha Ranganathan
It's my second time here and food comes out really quick like it must be precooked and then reheated.Ā We ordered various dishes including fried rice (the rice was dry and unseasoned), chicken wings (they were overcooked, dry and in a very sweet sauce) and spring rolls which were burnt around the edges.Ā Now it's 4.30 in the morning and I feel super sick.Ā NEVER AGAIN!
N Song
My and my partner ate there with a $60 grabone voucher. It was quiet when we came in at 5 but quickly got crowded. The food was delicious, we had the spring rolls, pork belly, chicken wings to start with a curry beef noodles and a side of Rice and roti. The pork belly was a bit chewy but other than that food was very good. The starters are perfect for two people. Left feeling extremely full and happy. The serve was good and the restaurant itself was clean
Brittany Gray
Great place food took a wee while for one of my friends but other than that everything was awesome, super affordable and good portions the pork belly was amazing will defiantly be back!
Sam
Came here with a group of mates on a groupon and the food was amazing. Salmon and beef brisket in particular were tender and juicy, cooked to perfection. We ordered 4 mains and 3 desserts, with 2 sides of rice and 2 roti's. Winded up coming out to $10 a head with everyone trying a bit of each dish. Definately will come back here. Staff was incredibly nice and really helpful. The Groupon is mad cheap for the high standard of service and food quality. I'm impressed pokpok šŸ˜Š

This has to be the worst plac I have eaten at in a long time.Ā The waiteress was ruished off her feat and was even in heated arguments in the kitchen,Ā The entreeĀ I ordered was over cooked and the main I had was not even suitable to feed my dog.Ā My partners meal was wrong even through the waitress confirmed it twice with us and when we questioned her on it she acted like we ordered that all along.Ā We ended up leaving my main only partially eaten and did not want to wait for her main to be made again as the kitchen staff came out angrily and started glaring at us.Ā Overall worst eatery i have ever been to.

We got a voucher for x4 people of Groupon for $30 which is such a bargain, great food and great service!Ā
My pad Thai noodles were cooked perfectly, there was just the right amount of sauce everything tasted so fresh! I also tried my brothers pork on rice and that was yummy!Ā
Awesome service as well

I'm no foodie or consider myself well knowledgeable about food but I want to share my experience with this restaurant. I have been here twice with my family. In both instances, we were not disappointed. I think in giving reviews, I need to comment on the whole experince so here is my take:

Ambiance: It was okay. Clean and presentable but it didn't look like a Thai resto but personally, it didn't bother me as it was clean.

Service: Good. Pleasant people who served and polite. The food also didn't take long.

Food: This is what us go back twice and will not hesitate to go back. Everything we ordered here is tasty and exceeded our expectations. We had ordered a few different things on both occassions and all were good. I personally liked the Tom Yum Soup.

Parking: This is the only downside of this resto. It's in K Road so parking is like gold so alot time for parking. There are parking spaces at the back area.

Overall, this is probably one of the good restos we have been to over the years. I would highly recommend it.

I came here because I had a groupon deal. Instantly liked the feel of the joint, was seated quickly and served our ordered food quite fast.
The crab salad was very nice I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the pork belly had a lovely flavour but was too chewy to enjoy much. Dessert was beautiful.
Staff were friendly and helpful.

Dined here on a Tuesday night with a group of four because it is supposed to be a great place for cheap eats. The staff took ages to take the order and there was a long wait for food, even though there were only a couple of other tables occupied. Dinner was even slower than it should have been because the waitress missed one of the dishes off the list. The fresh spring rolls and pork belly starters were good, the chicken satay was very average, our local thai restaurant does it far better. The green curry was too spicy for me to really try and the batter on the mussels was chewy and had to be pulled off. The massamun curry had good flavour, the first one that can out was almost cold but the delayed one of boiling hot. At over $20 I wouldn't describe it as a cheap eat, especially since the portion was not generous. I would get far better value and at least equal quality at our local thai restaurant. This place looks more modern than your average thai restaurant but is more expensive and the menu isn't particularly inventive. If you have a favourite thai place, don't bother coming here.

An excellent place for those looking to really fill their stomachs with quality thai food that's prepared and served with an abundance of finesse. The interior is nothing to shout about, but certainly more than comfortable enough to make you forget that you're actually at K-road on a gloomy day in Auckland, instead of somewhere near tropical Thailand.

Had dinner with a group of friends here and I was very happy with the service and food. Fresh flavours, gorgeous dishes, good customer service and really nice relaxed atmosphere. Not the cheapest of places to go to considering the serving sizes (we went with a group of friends and shared everything + used a voucher or two, but it wasn't very filling for what we paid), but I'd definitely come back when I feel like I deserve a treat!
Michelle Hwang
Had a dinner with 2 big meals and 2 small meals there. All raw materials were fresh. But compare to the price, serving size was too small. Coconut milk salmon was acid and yummy, but tom yum soup was cooked in a too short time, so the soup most liked water. Both two small meals were yummy. Service was nice. Rice was good texture. Paid with a $30 for $60 voucher.

We stumbled upon this place by accident and I'm so glad we did. I got the poached salmon curry and the flavours were beautiful :) it was super filling as well and really decently priced. I definitely would recommend if people are around in the area :)
Food 24/7
First time here with groupon/GrabOne voucher.
The place was relatively busy but I think it is normal for them during the weekend.

The waitress are not attentive, had to ask several times for water and to place our order .

The place was very noisy with BYO groups. .

After placing our order we Waited for over an hour for our food to arrive ... SEPARATELY !! ,It was so painful, we were all starving would have walked out if we didn't already paid .

The food is nice, the beef brisket was my favourite , nice and tender ... but I can't tell if it was because I was on the verge of fainting or if it was actually yum. Lol

Not sure if I will return .. Maybe on a quiet weekday ...

P.s there were bones in the salmon so watch out lol

Reasonable fare for a reasonable price with room for improvement. My favourite dish was the massamum curry with goat. The curry was flavourful and rich. The goat meat was tender and fell apart, just how it should be. The pad thai was also delicious.Ā

The other dishes we tried could have been better. The coconut soft shell crab was served with a big mound of raw bean sprouts which wasn't appetising and the crab didn't taste fresh. The stir-fry crispy pork belly was dry and the crackling was quite tough to eat - it was just hard in texture. The green curry with chicken was Ā interesting - served with deep fried noodles but the curry itself was lacking in flavour. The fried chicken was crispy on the outside but the meat was overcooked.Ā

Service was friendly and efficient. The dishes also came out quite quickly which was great. Overall it is still a cheap eat with decent portions but could be better.

I had 2 mains, 1 starter and 2 drinks with groupon voucher. I really enjoyed it. I had a perception towards restaurants which are listed on groupon that they are not that good enough to have customers without groupon ad. Well.. I was wrong. Pokpok is actually one of the decent thai restaurants in Auckland for sure :-)

PokPok has a funny name but don't let that fool you. They served appropriately sized dishes (not too much, not too little) that are delicious and will give you to opportunity to try a bit of everything.

One thing I LOVE about PokPok is the music played in the restaurant; they are all covers of famous songs.

Do not go here without trying the Pork Belly, it's to die for. The sticky rice was also a really nice (and delicious!) dessert.
I Love Food
We went here for byo and I had the spring roll and pad thai and really enjoyed both! Food came quite fast. Reasonable pricing and a good place to byo.

Had an early dinner here on a casual Saturday night. The room picked up fast though filling quickly and adding a busy bustly vibe - happy to have ordered early! We shared an array of entrees which tbh would have sufficed as dinner for me (I was so full by the time mains arrived) I had the coconut poached salmon which was delicious. A lot of broth though which became a little sickly towards the end but salmon was poached perfectly, soft and tender. Only managed to snap a picture of the dessert because I inhaled everything else too fast. Reasonable pricing for what it was , spent about $70 between the two of us incl drinks. Will be back.

We were walk ins with no booking to which they kindly fitted us in even though they were leading up to be busy that night. Ā Amazing food - wasn't our first time here so we knew it was going to be good. Ā Service was quick without being over the top and they left us to ourselves to talk and eat which is always nice. Ā

Food was fresh, FULL of flavour and really reasonably priced for what they delivered. Ā Ā I can't rave enough about the quality of food, never disappoints. Ā Parked right outside - 6.30pm on a Friday night - much better than going around in circles in Ponsonby trying to get into the foodcourt!!! Ā

Jam Chill Chicken and Beef Brisket Curry to die for.

Will definitely come again....and again.

Good selection of entrees and mains.
Loved their chicken red curry and pad Thai noodles.
Service was good considering it being so busy !
Nice desserts.
Overall a good time and will definitely go back

Definitely a 'meh'. Pros: nice lighting and decor, good service, byo. Cons: food lacks flavour and is not memorable. It feels like "Flowers in the Attic" Thai food, just lackluster. Maybe it's the minimal amount of oil used in the dishes? We had the soft-shell crab entree (flavour was great here, just lose the half-bag of bean sprouts which was piled on top), poached salmon in coconut milk and chilled tofu salad with a side of Asian veges (bok choy). If you don't have high expectations, this is the place for you.

Visited this place for dinner couple of days ago and we ordered
Spciy thai fried chicken
Thai green curry
Pork Laab
Shicuan Pepper Dark Chocolate mousse..

I loved the fried chicken so crispy flavourfull and amazing.. 5/5
Green curry was olright had better 3/5
Pork laab was good with jasmine rice 4.5/5
The dessert was a bit thick to be called mousse but it was amazinnnngg 5/5

One thing I would make a note of is that quantity of the food for the price you pay is not very satisfactory for green chicken we received 3 medium pieces of chicken and the laab was supposed to come with roast rice? We didn't see that on the dish and when we asked if it was missing we were told it was sprinkled on top and noo it wasn't sprinkled on top..

I would definitely go here again for the cripsy chicken and the choc mousse
Used a Groupon here awhile ago. While the grabone was good value, food did not impress. Duck spring rolls were quite greasy, and just one big springroll. Would probably have preferred more traditional style rolls. Green curry was different, don't expect your typical curry. Fried chicken was probably the best dish of the night. Didn't fulfil our Thai craving at all, unlikely to be back.

Been here twice and my experience on the first visit was great. I have tried quite a few of their food: satay chicken skewers, pork belly, pad thai, tom yum and southern fried chicken. The flavour of their food is good - authentic thai flavour (sweet, salty, sour and spicy). Price range and portions are decent. The restaurant was very clean also. However, on my second visit I was quite disappointed with the pork belly because it was extremely dry which is such a shame because it was absolutely delicious!

Went here with a friend based on reviews. Disappointed!!!! Porkbelly was terribly dry, almost inedible. Duck spring roll was extremely tasteless. Pad thai only tasted of egg. Portion size was reasonable, but the food was not enjoyable. And honestly, what kind of Thai place doesnt ask for your spice preference????

I've heard a lot about this place through friends and thought I would try it out. I went in with pretty high expectations and unfortunately was pretty disappointed. A few hit and misses. Pokpok has a lot of potential, they just need to work on the food a little. Service was great and friendly and our entrees were delicious, we had Chicken Satay, Duck spring rolls and curry puffs. However, our mains weren't as great, we had the fried chicken, green curry, pork belly and pad thai. The two chicken dishes were majority of big thick bones and
Flavours were a bit off, the pork belly was dry,
But had great flavour. Pad thai was beautiful though. I would be willing to come back here and maybe try some different dishes, hoping that they would deliver.

I've heard quite a bit about this place, and I've always had a secret crush on restaurants on k-road so I swayed the others to try this with me.

It's always scary trying new restaurants, especially when you drag other people with you. #thatpressure

Luckily, pokpok didn't disappoint, though we felt like we were mislead as it claims to be a Thai restaurant. The food didn't seem Thai, but more Asian fusion.

We had salmon, curry chicken (sauce was a bit too watery) and crispy pork belly (best dish!)

@inourmouths on Instagram

We came here with fairly high expectations (reading some of the other reviews) but came away with an ok experience. It's definitely fusion style thai, don't come here expecting 'authentic thai' that you would find in thailand.

We ordered the duck spring rolls, soft shell crab, southern fried chicken, green curry and chicken satay. All the dishes were good and well priced however for us we found the food 'missing something'. Couldn't quite put our finger on it.

We would return if in the area but wouldn't go out of our way to visit.

Delicious food, great service, nice atmosphere and awesome value. Not nice looking from the outside but really nice inside. Highly recommend.

Best Thai food I've had in Auckland. This is no exaggeration, everything from the satay sauce to the dark chocolate mousse was rich in flavour and every bite was like heaven. Although the service was a bit slow, the food definitely made up for it. It is well priced and a must visit for anyone who enjoys Thai food. Can't wait to go back for more.

Had heard some good things about this place and the menu looked interesting so was excited to try it out! The interior was elegant and the environment great for a nice dinner out without breaking the bank. Shared the duck spring rolls, massaman goat curry and crispy tuna salad. We found the spring rolls and tuna salad abit too oily and underwhelming as they sounded great on the menu. The tuna salad would have been great to share for a bigger group however was abit much for just two people. The curry was really good however, tender and flavourful, and the potatoes were soft and fluffy.

I've been to Pokpok twice for BYO dinners. Both times the restaurant was packed with other groups doing similar things.

The first time I had Papaya salad and it was awesome! I had this when I visited Thailand and haven't been able to find one at any Thai places. It's such a simple dish, but so tasty, Pokpok's is great.Ā The second time I shared the duck spring rolls and the pad thai, and both were really good as well. Considering the quality of the food, it's really well priced and corkage is only $3. The menu is pretty small and simply with all the Thai specialties which I love as I can never decide what to order.

It's super loud in there so a lot of shouting, but the staff are pretty good and really nice- even when under a lot of pressure.

I'll definitely go again!

Food was amazing :) modern Thai done very well. Things i have never had together as combinations but so good. My only niggle was the wait! The food was slow but well worth the wait in the end! We will come again for sure.

Dined for first time on Sunday 1/02/2015 and was not overly impressed with both service and food.Thai food beenĀ our most favourite of all cuisines we felt this place failed to deliver.Ā We had to request for water after been seated for 15min and when received was luke warm.Ā We ordered several dishes from entree, main and dessert with each dish although palatable lacked flavour.Ā The salmon main was steamed priorĀ to the watery coconut sauce been added so flavours were bland and tasteless. The dessert was flavoursome and good value for money. The table service was not the usual standard accustomed to in comparison to many other Thai restaurants visited.Pokpok we feel both service and food quality requires some improvement.

Nice atmosphere. Found it a bit expensive for what you got. Duck spring roll was lacking duck. Soft shell crab was a tiny crab cut in half for two pieces. Was very tasty just not what I was expecting. On the other hand the Papaya Salad and stir fry pork belly would have to be my favourites! Wonderful flavours.

Pok Pok has really picked up its game since my first visit. We ordered the stir fried pork belly, caramalised pork belly, massaman curry and silken tofu. Each dish was beautifully cooked with really fresh flavours. My favourite was the tofu which came in a light, flavoursome broth.

The venueĀ has a cute old school wooden theme but outside it didnt look like much in itself i had ordered online the
asian wok veges, duck spring rolls, peanut satay kebabs, the caramelized pork belly and crispy chicken main it was really decent value and was the best thai foodĀ i have had in ages.

I can't fault this place!! My partner and I dined here in June this year, and had such a wonderful time. The staff were fantastic, a lovely, laid back little treasure of a restaurant on K Rd. When we dined, the restaurant was full, it is clearly becoming very popular. We had the duck spring rolls for entree, which were amazing. We had prawn pad thai and the pork belly for mains, the pork belly definitely had a kick to it! And coconut panna cotta and black sticky rice pudding for dessert. Everything was fresh and well presented and tasted lovely. Can't wait to dine here again!

This restaurant has an A food rating.
I'd read about Pok Pok online and the menu hooked me.
From the outside looking in, the restaurant looks fairly nondescript, just like any other eatery on K Rd.
Walked in off the street with my wife. We were asked if we had a booking, which we hadn't, but the waiter directed us to the small table for two. It was perfect because it was right next to the gas heater and closest to the bar/kitchen.
First impressions:
Cosy. There are several seats at tables, with a cushioned bench seat along one wall. I estimate enough seating for around 20 people. The chairs are green plastic, a step up from your garden variety but comfortable enough for me to sit in for over an hour. The restaurant was empty until we entered which usually gives me reason to wonder why.
Decor:
The decor was minimalist. I noticed one oil painting depicting Buddha on the wall.
Two speakers on opposite corners of the restaurant played out modern music at a conversational level.
The bar was well appointed with a dedicated bar manager.
The men's toilet was basic, no urinal, but very clean.
Service:
Our waiter was friendly, polite and fairly efficient. All staff were well presented in black attire. Our drinks (I had a glass of Chang beer) were brought to our table promptly as we waited for our meal. The waiter was always visible, stationing himself beside the nearby bar ready to tend to patrons. Our meal was served within 15 minutes of ordering.
Food:
We'd read the menu several times beforehand so we knew what we were going to order before we sat down. We'd decided to go with a selection of different entrees and one main.
Priced quite reasonably, each entree costs between $8 and $10.
Portion sizes of the entrees was good, 2 to 3 pieces each with garnish salads and sauces.
The presentation of each dish was great. No two dishes looked the same.
The entrees we ordered were the Coconut Soft Shell Crab, Crispy Duck Spring Rolls, Caramelised Pork Belly, Crispy Curry Puff and the Miang of Seared Tuna.
The mains dish we ordered was the Pad Thai Prawn.
The pork belly was good. The meat was a little tough on the outside but easy to pull. The skin was crisp and not too heavy with fat. What made this dish great overall was the sauce.
The curry puffs were tasty. The difference with these puffs is they contain kumara instead of potato. The sauce was a little thick and sticky for my liking - I prefer a more liquid sauce but that's just my preference.
The miang of seared tuna was a pleasant surprise for me. I have no idea what miang means. I was expecting a small tuna steak seared on the grill. What I was presented with looked like a tuna salad served on individual lettuce pockets. The taste though, was superb. I love coriander to start with, and this dish had the flavour of it in spades. Mixed with lemon or lime juice and other flavours, I really enjoyed it. The tuna flesh was definitely not like your typical canned tuna from the supermarket, although you could be forgiven for thinking it looked like it.
The soft shell crab was quite different. Battered and deep fried served with a bean sprout salad in coconut mayonnaise. I have to say I was disappointed in this dish, but only because by the time we got around to sampling it it had already cooled down to the point that it was greasy. That was our mistake. In hindsight we should have ordered two dishes at a time to ensure they were eaten while still hot. I'll have to try this dish again, while it's hot, to be able to provide a fair review of it.
The highlight of the meal, we both agreed, was the crispy duck spring roll. It was delicious. Crispy, crunchy shell all around. Quite a large portion as far as spring rolls go. The duck meat was tender and juicy, the vegetables and the sauce provided a taste sensation.
I didn't try any of the Pad Thai Prawn, my wife tried some of it and got the leftovers to takeaway. I can't comment on that dish.
Overall:
We were both very full and satiated when we were done dining here. We felt that we would most likely return for another sitting one day. Very happy with all aspects of the experience.
My recommendation:
Try the Crispy Duck Spring Rolls - I'm confident you won't be disappointed.
Handy tip:
If, like us, you're going to try a sample of several different entrees, try ordering just one or two at a time, or ask for just a couple to be served at a time so they are fresh and hot to eat - don't stockpile all of them at once like we did.

Visited Pok Pok for the first time with my partner for our anniversary , we expected the usual Thai themed restaurant with the usual Western Thai menu.......WOW was the first impression when looking over the menu, everything sounded fresh, authentic (with a twist) and absolutely amazing. The salmon dish was so tasty and fresh and the pork belly was a little over cooked but still very nice. The service was attentive and smooth .

Keep Up the good work guys....this place is amazing.

Very impressed- best Thai food we've had in Auckland. Green curry was made authentically and the choc mouse with caramel was to die for! Coming back soon. Keep up the good work!

Wonderful, inventive food with amazing new flavours and sensations. This place reminds you of what food is all about - think of the difference between listening to mp3s on tinny headphones and then sitting before a full orchestra - that's how much of a wake up call this is to your taste buds. Great service and they did change the dancey house music to something more mellow for us. Yes, the chocolate chilli mousse with salted caramel is a hit, as are all the other dishes we tried. Try it and then spread the word about this place, it's a gem.

We didn't know what to expect but were blown away by the great service and delicious dishes considering extremely well priced menu. The staff were attentive to my friends gluten free needs, they knew their menu and they were pleasant throughout the entire meal. The menu was quite short but the little twists on the traditional Thai dishes really paid off.
Well done. We can't wait to come back

My boyfriend and I came here because we bought a voucher and were keen to try the newly opened Thai eatery.

To our surprise (we weren't expecting much given the location of the restaurant), the entire dining experience was spectacular. The staff were very attentive and polite, and the 3-course meal was deliciously gourmet for the price we paid.

Will definitely return again and have recommended this to our friends.

The only small hitch was the background dance music was a bit jarring considering the otherwise tidy settings.
Anna
Lovely food and great service! The flavors were vibrating and fresh and great value. The soft shell crab was a highlight, will be back :-)

Great friendly service, great prices and delicious, well presented food. Interior is spacious and clean. Not super flash bit the foods makes up for it. Definitely going back. The choc chilli mousse with spicy caramel was a hit on our table.

Had dinner last night at PokPok and was very impressed - menu is tight and concise. Very fresh flavours. Desserts were fabulous - you have to finish off with one of them!

Went for dinner at POKPOK last week for 2pp.
Had duck spring roll, chicken stay, Tom yum Prawn and Green Curry Chicken, food is amazing and tasty. I like green curry as their use whole chicken leg & their own curry plate, that's taste absolutely different from the packet curry paste as another restaurant. Anyway Recommend!!!
