Review Nomad - Auckland Central

Dion Keating
Looking for a well rounded option close to Motat and found Nomad on a google search. Popped in for an early dinner at about 5:30. Plenty of seating for our group of five. Menu was full out great options with everyone getting something different. Lamb rump, market fish, vege burger, chicken supreme and a kids pasta. All meals were delicious and full of flavour. Portions were of good size and well priced. Excuse the half eaten meals everyone dug in pretty fast. Staff were helpful and attentive so you were left with an empty glass. Would recommend to anyone wanting to eat in the area. Great restaurant.

The food presentation was excellent. The cauliflower fritters were a standout highlight. Great flavour and very tasty. The Moroccan lamb pizza was good but not as flavourful as expected. Truffle fries are very good and a good portion. Overall portion size for the sharing dishes was small for the price.

We had a very enjoyable night. Great atmosphere and friendly service. The pork wasn't as tender as I'd hoped but it was ok, the flavour was very nice

Stunning food ! My first visit to Nomad and it was an interesting experience. It was a Saturday night so they were fairy busy.but still available tables for a walk in. The waitress was very friendly but maybe new? She never offered us water for the table and then when we asked for side plates so we could share the main (curry) she said we were unable to do that. After asking to talk to the manager, she returned with two side plates, so maybe didn’t understand? Unfortunately she also forgot our starter sharing plate, so that came about 20mins after we had finished our main. We had to wave someone down for a second cocktail as she never checked on us. In saying this, she always had a lovely smile and apologised for her mistakes so it was not an unpleasant experience. The food was well worth the wait, beautifully presented and every mouthful was delicious. The cocktails were also delicious. Yes I would recommend dining here and would return again.

Absolute divine food, fresh and packed with flavour. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff that were quick and professional. Wiped our table between our meal. Great value for money. 4 share plates, 1 dessert and 2 drinks $105.00

The beef burger is very good. Staff are attentive.

Walked in for a coffee Ambiance lead us to change our minds - a cocktail seemed more appropriate. My friend shared his piping hot 🔥 pizza with me. Altogether a good experience. Friendly server & staff. | our table in a discreet corner, although a tad sticky, was perfect for our private conversation |

I notice this restaurant on Google Maps. And many interesting reviews attract me. As a foreigner, the menu is too hard to understand. For example, I don't know what Dips & Grit is, even after eating it and it really tastes good. SUPREMA is a huge pizza even though we chose a small size. Yummy! The taste of music is soooo excellent.

Amazing ambience, great food. They served to our vegetarian needs very carefully. Everything was beautifully presented and well served by the friendly staff. Catered to kids needs as well.

We came for lunch on a Thursday during the holidays. Plenty of space and tables to choose from. Had an absolutely delicious vegan bowl. Especially loved the garlic hummus and al dente brocollini. The wrap was soft and yummy. The vegetables were fresh and everything worked really well together. I also had the vegan orange cake. It was soft yet dense, yummy and filling. My daughter ordered the chicken wrap and curly fries. She enjoyed the hint of lemon juice on the wrap as it gave a refreshing lightness to the dish. The curly fries were perfectly crispy. Her hot chocolate had a light and fluffy foam on top, with a chocolate drink which isn't too sweet. NB: She had soy milk. My brother had the Hangover Breaky. He said it was really nice and filling. His Afghan cookie was yummy as well. Would definitely recommend. Excellent friendly customer service, layout, decor and choice of music.

Nice local family restaurant, with ample seating, both inside and out. There is a play area where the kids can let off steam and play.

The food was amazing. Prepared with love and lots of flavor. Will definitely go there again. Highly recommend.

We went at a busy time (Friday evening) and there was a long wait time due to a high volume of uber eats orders however the lovely waitress we had let us know this and bought over truffle chips to tide us over. The pizzas were good and the beef short rib main had great flavours. The space itself is beautiful with lovely wooden beam ceilings and an enormous pizza oven.

Nomad is definitely a fave. Have been here a number of times in the last few years and it was about time we strayed away from the usual pizza and truffle fries (which are always spot on). We ordered the trio which normally requires you to select 3 out of 2 meats, falafel or halloumi, however we asked if they could make it vegetarian so they gave us 2 sets of falafel, halloumi, and babaganous along with hummus. The falafel tasted amazing! They had the best flavour and didn’t taste dry. It went really well with both dips and the salad. We also ordered the truffle mash which was as good as mashed potatoes should be. Truffle oil was perfect with it. It was the right amount of food for a light-medium lunch! Love the cosy, warm interiors. Lovely chill vibe for a catch up.

This is one of those rare establishments that have damn near perfected their craft. Every aspect is bang on and formulates a template of what a good restaurant ought to be. The decor, minimalistic & modern. The service was quick & efficient - the food was well priced, cooked beautifully & presented like a work of art. I can only think of one or two restaurants I'd place in the same calibre as Nomad. Well done! 5☆

This place has the best service and Off-course the food! From their dips to bread to pizzas and tacos everything is perfect to tingle the tastebuds..and oh yes the desserts are no less.

I came for the truffle fries and were a little bit disappointing... tasteless and not well cooked. But I also ordered pizza and so yummy! service really nice as well, fast and friendly.

Was looking for a cafe for coffee this afternoon but all the other cafes were closed. Friend and I went to Nomad instead because it was right next to Countdown. We ordered the lamb to share. It came with thin potato strips and salad. Fries were crispy yet soft. Quite oily though because of how thin it was. Lamb was average. Food came out relatively fast and environment was chill.

Great ambiance and friendly staff, kids friendly too. Food was great too although some of the dishes we wanted to try were finished by 6 pm.

Happened in here only because in the area and hungry. Fast, friendly, and attentive service. We had crab sliders, Mediterranean dips plate, and a pizza. All delicious. Only a couple of tables busy on Sunday afternoon ... if this place were on the beach it would be jam-packed.

I would’ve given a 5 star if it wasn’t for the service of the front staff. The food was just amazing. Hats off to the kitchen staff for serving such amazing food. The ambience and the whole setup was fabulous as well.<br/>The front staff however was never attentive. Service g water once in a while doesn’t make a great service. I would return to this restaurant for sure. But that’s only because of the warm feel this place gives and for the quality food they serve.

Absolutely amazing place. Been here about 5 times and loved every meal and experience do I decided to host aunties 60th birthday in their mezzanine area. The staff were so nice and switched on, for a group of around 25 there was not one mistake or misunderstanding regarding orders all night-even though they were busy and it was Saturday night! The food is always perfect and I highly recommend this place. Wish I could give 6 stars :)

My review of nomad is of a good one. As the place suggests it’s famous for its pizzas and as per my prediction it was very good pizzas indeed. What had particularly made me input 5 stars to a 4 was due to the boost of the atmosphere of the dining. The dining experience was aided a lot to he wonderful waitress who had served us, Leo I believe her name was, short Caucasian lady with glasses had been very lovely and served extremely well. The let down to the experience was only my fries. I am a person to not overload it with Parmesan and truffle a simpler approach to the fires could have been ideal (just my personal preference). But the starter of the pizza bread and the mains of the pizza was excellent as I predicted. Thanks again and wish to dine in the near future.

We ordered a large vegetarian pizza with a request that anchovies be added. When it arrived, the amount of pizza toppings ("tomato, mozzarella, courgette, mushroom, peppers, spinach, feta, olives" according to the menu) were sparse and no anchovies or mushrooms were obvious. A replacement pizza was offered. This one had a few pieces of anchovy, and the toppings were slightly better. (Unevenly distributed - Judge the quality for yourselves from the photo of the last slice just as it came.) Pizzas ordered by others in the group looked good and since this eatery gets good reviews, I'm guessing that our average vegetarian pizza experience was just a blip.<br/>If it's raining when you visit, take care when walking inside. The floor tiles are very slippery when wet!

Great place! I went here by chance with a friend. Beautiful interior, friendly staff and excellent vegetarian options. The food was delicious! The cocktails hit the spot as well! Very good! I will be back. Highly recommended.

Thumbs up! Very nice. Went around 5pm I think. So it wasn't that busy. Nice and quite environment, very enjoyable. Definitely recommend their pizzas

nice experience of food, so much food than I was expected. quite tasty pork and crackling, also my friend said he wants to come back every week.

Had a really good experience here the other night it was a week night therefore wasn’t too busy, staff were lovely I think the lady the kept serving us was the manager she was very attentive. Food were above average, pizza dough thin and well cooked and toppings and flavours were yum! We had the morrocan lamb and smoked chicken pizza large size which was good for 3 adults (we had left overs too!) we also ordered fried chicken which was also good and decent serving size! The only thing was the dessert menu it was pretty average and different from the ones on zomato no more baklava! But Will be back for sure for more pizza’s and fried chicken!

We were seen by 3 different people upon entering and ordering drinks who said they would be back to take our food order. We waited over 30 minutes and no one came back out except one of the waitresses who came outside, saw us and then backtracked back into the bar. There were only 2 other groups in the bar and we paid for our drinks and left as we'd been there 40 mins by that point.
Tim
The entire meal was incredible. We had ribs+slaw and a side of curly fries. The ribs were cooked to perfection, soft and almost falling off the bone. The BBQ sauce was sweet and tangy and just the right amount of runny. Curly fries were so incredibly crispy on the outside, but moist on the inside, and the aioli was divine. Minor hiccup with our order which staff went above and beyond to fix. A++ would recommend.

Was expecting much more from this restaurant as the reviews were quite good.<br/><br/>The place itself is nice, spacious and well illuminated, a good option to meet friends for drinks or food.<br/><br/>One of the things I value the most is the freshness of the ingredients, and as pics shows the arugulas served both for entree and pizza were far from fresh. They were actually dry and some had turned from green to yellow.<br/><br/>The calamari was good, not chewy, and the pizza was also OK, good dough, although I think the sauce was blunt.<br/><br/>Service wasn't remarkable either. I asked the staff a few minutes to think about the drinks. They left and never came back to check if I had made up my mind. Lucky that I wasn't thirsty.<br/><br/>And that night they were far from busy!

As I have done more than once over time, last week I went to Nomad after work to relax with a drink and a bit of something to eat.  Their pilsner is my draft beer of choice.  I ordered the simple margherita pizza, and as I had a very soft pizza there  some time ago, I asked that it be cooked "extra crispy".  Unfortunately this (as declared when it was delivered to my table) extra crispy pizza was the colour of raw pizza dough and even the thin base had a strange consistency when chewed -- rather gluey.  Very little flavour in the pizza except for the fresh basil leaf.  This was puzzling and a very big disappointment.

Had such a delicious dinner at Nomad last night, massive pizza and 3 beef sliders! Great amount of food for the the money you pay. We had the smoked chicken pizza, it was so delicious I could bearly finish it because I was so full! Also the sliders were so filling could only eat one! Perfect night! Only negative is that the table we sat at was quiet small so could just fit everything on. Overall great!
Rachel 🦋
The saving grace was the Czech style Pilsner, the food was very underwhelming , the calamari was so overcooked it was like a potato chip, the tacos had so much mayo on them they were enedible, sliders were ok, fried chicken was ok, nothing that would make me want to go back for more, it's a shame really as I have been for dinner a few times in the past and it was really nice, great location, nice fire and ambience, I'd go there for a beer but pass on the food.

Loveley Location, good food, friendly stuff and good value for money. Well worth visiting and have a good time. Also good area for a function.<br/>

Amazing!! Attend Nomad tonight with a good friend... Although I live locally I have never been here and finally got around to it this evening, I remember this place being called the ragu under different management however the food was ok during its time of the ragu joint.<br/><br/>Anyway, we ordered the calamari, truffle fries and the la Bella italiana pizza. The vibe was really nice and the decor was goregous! Felt like I was in Los Angeles or New York. The service was quick and we got our food really quckily. The calamari and truffle fries were divine. Then lastly, the pizza. Omg the pizza! The base was goregous, the size was perfect for 2 people and they had enough flavours that it was all balanced well, I didn't leave feeling full but more satisfied as we demolished the whole pizza. <br/><br/>On top of that, the staff were fantastic as well. Thanks for a great night nomad! You also have an excellent DJ too.
You're Yuck
Not a great dinner. We got Uber eats, two pizzas and fried chicken. Pizza bases were soggy, we ended up frying them on the pan to crisp them up. After that, not bad. Fried chicken tasted burnt and looked burnt, sauces were super runny and only gave you enough for half the chicken.

"All of us possess nomadic tendencies – we are travellers, each with our own lessons and experiences to share with one another.” <br/>Such is the flashy intro for Nomad, a Point Chevalier bar restaurant with a Mediterranean twist. We ooo'd and aah'd at the size of the place, the copper accents and black-raftered pine ceilings, the intricately-tiled floor and beautiful fireplace. Our waitress was friendly but seemed mostly absent throughout the meal, only refilling our water glasses after we started both breathing fire from the tabasco sauce and attempting to swallow what seemed to be rubber discs (mussel fritters). The truffle fries were the saving virtue really. Our experience was somewhat of a far cry from the rave reviews from the Herald and Zomato - perhaps we'll give it another try at night and see how the experience differs.<br/><br/>Check out our individual comments here: husk.co.nz/lunches/nomad-september-2015

Local to Unitec and a great addition to Pt Chev. Have been here multiple times and everytime we come we receive the same great service & food. The fried chicken is a must- and staff are usually super friendly

Had walked past many times, and never been inside. It's a large space, 2-level, nice ambience.  Prompt service and a pretty solid menu - Pizzas and a range of mains. Pleasantly surprised by the pizzas, and the better half enjoyed the fish with couscous and salad. Chocolate Lava cake dessert had fans. Overall a solid family friendly effort from a surprisingly large operation!

Delicious freshly made pizzas with crispy thin crust and toppings that complement each other! Also ordered their buttermilk fried chicken and I think this will be my standard order every time. <br/><br/>The restaurant is spacious! Great for a big gathering but also warm enough ambience for a one on one. Love the decor too. <br/><br/>I don't come to pt Chev often but I think now I'll visit more!

Nice environment, good food. Service is excellent. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a good and relaxing time. Wide range of dishes from lamb to eggplant. Pizza is good, would come back again.

Went to Nomad last weekend for the first time and would definitely come back for their pizza! The staff are friendly and very attentive, and the atmosphere is great for Friday and Saturday night. We ordered Smokey Duck Breast, Quattro Carne pizza and curly fries. Me and my boyfriend weren't crazy about the Smokey Duck breast..but the pizza was very delicious!

Went here tonight cause we've heard great things. It's  a gorgeous set up and ambiance really. I had the vegetarian pizza and the others went for the Oxtail Ragout, sticky pork ribs, and a chicken pizza and all was well. We were well taken care of by Yordanos and the other staff were also very pleasant. All in all, a beautiful solid place, will be back with friends!

Now in eaten a lot of pizza in my life and very few come close to being this good. <br/><br/>We ordered the smoked chicken, Rosemary, Brie, cranberries, scallion and spring onions. Seriously every single ingredient right down to the Rosemary is a masterpiece! <br/><br/>Awesome service, I'll definitely be returning soon.

Came here to use my grabone voucher. The atmosphere was nice and the lamb burger was absolutely amazing! This is my first time trying a lamb burger and it looks like it won't be my last. Overall I was greatly satisfied with the meal. Sorry the lighting was dark and pictures came out poorly

We first found out about this place through grab one and we were so impressed!! Not only is the restaurant aesthetically pleasing, the food is just as great. <br/>We have been back a few times to eat the lamb burgers on the grab one voucher. The curly fries and the Kumara fries are soooo tasty! <br/>

No pictures of this place sorry! But let me tell you everything was beautifully presented ✨🎀. The staff are super friendly and really attentive. On top of this, the restaurant is quite beautiful and really does hold a modern Mediterranean vibe to it. The menu isn't strictly Mediterranean in my opinion but I kind of liked that. They cooked everything to perfection ✌🏻️ I will say skip the panna cotta though!

A local bar of ours, quite often go for Friday or Sunday afternoon drinks. We love it there. Incredible platters, beautiful wine (apart from the two times they had run out of the wine that we were drinking and we're giving us a cheaper wine and not telling us) until we realised the wine we were drinking was awful. That is the only bad experience we have had there. We love it ❤️

We were recommended to dine at Nomad in Pt Chevalier Restaurant, by one of my sons recently on a trip back to Auckland. How Pt Chevalier has changed. Not generally a reviewer of restaurants, I only felt it necessary to view my disappointment in what seems like an upcoming place to dine out in one of Auckland long established suburbs. Atmosphere was ok, pretty busy for a Thursday evening so I was EXPECTING the meals to be superb. However the presentation of what was presented, almost made me unsure whether to eat it or not. King fish had no garnish and looked poorly, and for the first time in 40 years Ive had a pizza with strips of cheese un-melted on its surface. Having dined in over 26 countries, I felt a little cheated by this, and we made a comment to the waitress, about the presentation. Other meals appeared ok, but at the end of almost $200.00 for 4 people, I felt much disappointment with the outcome, seeing the company was fantastic. Presentation is paramount in any setting, and if the food is not visually appealing from the beginning, its not going to win votes. What do you think?

Had heard great things about nomad but was still pleasantly surprised. More of a restaurant set up on one side and bar on the other. Great atmosphere on a fri nite. We managed to score a park on the main road and a seat by the bar. Service was great, wine recommendations made and timely service. We were really hungry so probably ordered too much but was a great chance to try a few things. Curly fries were crunchy and fluffy as they should be as were the arancini. Lamb koftas were well seasoned and came with a generous serve of greek salad, creamy tzatziki and flat breads. Went well with the side of eggplant. The fried chicken 👌👍✔ right up there with the likes of miss clawdy, so juicy with a flavorsome crispy coating. Def will return, be a nice sun arvo spot to try the pizzas

Nomad is a solid restaurant, I believe I just happened to have the bad luck and got a mediocre main course. <br/><br/>To start with you I had the chargrilled prawns, it was yum. I loved the simplicity of the flavours and the inviting presentation. The prawn meat was sweet and juicy, and wasn't overpowered by garlic and seasoning. <br/><br/>I opted for the market fish as my main. In all honesty it was very disappointing thus pulling down my overall score giving to Nomad. The fish was overcooked, and lacked in seasoning. The risotto was mushy and heavy. It didn't feel like the risotto was meant to be with the fish. I also didn't get the sauce. Yes I could see the sauce was meant to be a means to lift up the fish. Unfortunately the sauce fell short in that it was heavy and oily, and combined that with tough meat, it just didn't work. <br/><br/>My partner's steak on the other hand was really good. Tender, flavourful and honest. Simple dish made well. You didn't need any jus to enhance the flavour or presentation. <br/><br/>I chose the chocolate fondant as my dessert. The middle oozed out and for that well done! Wish it was more chocolaty as I could taste the flour. The presentation for me was a bit confusing and unnecessary. Those chocolate bits didn't have to be on the plate. I also found it puzzling that Nomad would opt for such a large plate for such dessert. All in all the fondant could use some refinement. <br/><br/>A solid place with reasonable price tags.

The Nomad staff really outdid themselves for our birthday celebration. What an amazing banquet. Compliments to the chef, it was outstanding.  Keeping in mind we are vegetarians, and we usually find one or two vegetarian items on a restaurant menu if we are lucky, we were offered a huge selection of delicious food that we all wanted to eat more of but were sadly limited by stomach capacity.  We enjoyed the food on the previous occasions we have dined with you, but if that food was great, this was fantastic.  I have to give especial note to two items that are immeasurable:  The roasted eggplant was incredible, and the baklava devine.  What is above A+ as a rating?
Michelle Hwang
Enjoyed a high price effective 5 courses dinner with cocktails for only $ 99.00 for 2 people. Tried 5 dishes and 6 cocktails in total. Most of them were wonderful. Their staff served very warm hearted service to make all customer clear with raw materials and cooking approach.
Eden Wood
I would highly recommend the five course degustation. The menu is creative, the flavours are interesting, the presentation is detailed and delicate and the service is exceptional. The staff skilfully explained the elements of each course and the pairing of different flavours. The first 3 courses came out very quickly but the meals slowed as the restaurant filled up. Each course had a different take on the Mediterranean classics and was paired with a cocktail which complimented the meal beautifully. It's a lovely set-up too. The decor is very classy.. Particularly the upstairs area. It will be even better once the construction is finished outside.
Ange
Great local for a casual beer in the sun or by the fire in winter. Curly fries are a must have. Bar snacks and pizza are good. However found the restaurant a little pricey for a local joint.
Eleanor Purdey Smith
Hubby took me here on a surprise hot date and I was very impressed. Menu items are pricey but the portions are surprisingly decent and YUM. We had the scallops & pork belly; rocket salad; calamari; and lamb. OMG - looking like a lucky night for hubby at this point. Then for dessert we shared the fondant with homemade caramel ice cream and the deal was sealed. <br/>African waitress was very sweet although we were given two other waiters next which was slightly annoying when being asked if we were enjoying the food constantly. Splitting hairs I guess.<br/>Nevertheless, Such a great treasure in pt Chev. which has nothing.

Nomad is amazing. I have been three times and am planning another visit soon.<br/><br/>It was such an unexpected find in the inner suburb of point chevalier... <br/><br/>The decor is very stylish and modern/Scandinavian. It has a great feel with the lighting perfect and comfortable seats. The tableware and glasses are beautiful.<br/><br/>The food - unbelievably good. The pizzas are wonderful, chef Tony (from Verona) is an absolute master. Diavola and the Margherita are divine.<br/>I have tried quite a few dishes and enjoyed every single one. Stand outs for me are the duck confit salad, the curly fries, the zucchini bites and the Caprese salad.<br/><br/>I've only tried one dessert - pannacotta, it was divine and very authentic.<br/><br/>I'm thrilled to have this amazing restaurant in Auckland nearby to me and I recommend it to everyone

Overview: A bar infused with a restaurant. Despite this, it was able to cater to a relatively large birthday dinner and did so graciously.<br/><br/>Pros: A great range of dishes, from slow cooked beef on the bone, duck salads and wood fired pizzas. Everything that we ordered that night was great and this was attested to by almost every diner there. Additionally, the customer service could not be improved on and the atmosphere of the restaurant was most accommodating.<br/><br/>Cons: A bit expensive, but this will be understandable if one experiences what we did that night.

Had a really lovely evening last night at Nomad with my young family, we all enjoyed the fantastic warm and friendly service and the food was delicious! the kids love the 'bento box' style meals complete with kinder surprise egg for dessert! we will definitely be going back!

Was pleasantly surprised how delicious this Pt Chev gem is. I had the steak and it was cooked to perfection and my partner had the lamb rack and it tasted just as good! Definitely will be keeping this in mind. Must try: the chocolate pudding!!

I had my birthday dinner for 25 people yesterday, <br/><br/>We booked a long table then we decorated by ourself.. <br/>so we ordered some items for sharing. I have to admit all the food we ordered : <br/><br/>Salt and Pepper Calamary, Southern Fried Chicken, Moroccon Lamb Dumplings, Lahmajun, Cappricciosa Pizza, Chop Salad<br/><br/>Were AMAZING. so fresh and well seasoned.. <br/><br/>I love the environment they give us, the lighting, decoration and mostly the SERVICE they provide! <br/><br/>overall my friends loved the food, the atmoshphere! <br/>The price is not really cheap, but it's so worth it.. <br/><br/>I would like to recommend and def come back! :)

I came here with my family. We have a diverse range of tastes but we all like seafood so we ordered the bucket of lobster and the market fish cerviche salad as an entre to share amongst us all. Let me say that the seafood here was divine. I wished I had more of the cerviche salad all to myself, and the bucket of lobster was large enough to give 5 of us 2 lobster tail halves each. It would be a massive feast if you got a lobster bucket all to yourself. I did find myself wishing that the lobster came with a butter sauce or sauce of any kind but it wasn't dry, just plain lobster. It said there was butter with the lobster on the menu but I couldn't tell. Still delicious though!<br/><br/>Slightly more disappointing was the mains. I decided to go for the 24 hour prime rib steak. I asked for rare but the waitress said they only made the steaks in medium rare. Sure enough I got my steak and it was too overcooked for my liking so I didn't enjoy it so much. The horseradish mascarpone was nice but overall this main was nothing special. My family voiced similar opinions about their mains (they also got the prime rib and the short rib). The pescatarian family member decided on greens of the day for their main instead of a full meal and those were very tasty though.<br/><br/>We all shared a little tiramisu among us which was beautiful and one of the best tiramisus I have had in Auckland.<br/><br/>Overall: fantastic seafood, vegetables and dessert but disappointing steak. Not sure why they didn't allow me to get my steak rare how I like it, but I guess a lot of diners request rare and aren't prepared for just how rare the steaks come out and send them back? I do wish they could have given me the benefit of the doubt however. I will probably come back at some point, but only for the seafood.
Priyanka Victor
Their deep fried southern chicken is ah-may-zing! Just amazing! Their pizzas are also delicious because they're woodfired. Lovely experience and will be returning for more!
April Bax
My husband and i love Nomad- as its walking distance from our home we eat there regularly.<br/>We are always happy with the food and service.<br/><br/>The prime rib is a winner!<br/><br/>The only negative is they have downsized their pizzas but not the prices, quite disappointing.<br/>We tend to choose other takeaway options now.

Went to Nomad for the first time with my beautiful friend, awesome atmosphere, funny waiter, and delicious meals.. We order lamb dumpling, meatball and venison with desert and alcohol.. But Nomad is the place you want to be if you in Point Chev!!

We are here last night for my morher-in law's birthday. We'd heard good things about this place and we were keen to check it out. Overall it was hit and miss. Some of the dishes were fantastic (fried chicken, dumplings) and others were decidedly average (lahmajun pizza and buffalo meatballs). Staff seemed fairly disinterested and we had to ask them to come over for more drinks. Has potential and maybe with time will shine.
Hannah Gear
Decided to pick this spot to celebrate my mothers birthday. Love the sharing menu and wanted to eat everything on it!<br/><br/>We decided on the southern fried chicken, salt and pepper squid and la Bella Italia pizza.<br/><br/>The chicken was amazing little bite sized pieces, covered in the perfect spicy sauce. The squid was good, not the best I have had but definitely cooked properly. Highlight would have the pizza, rocket and prosciutto on a nice base with stringy cheese. <br/><br/>The waitress was wonderful and the service was quick.<br/><br/>Will be back!

Having had many great dining experiences at Nomad previously, we decided to have our Dad's 70th birthday in the private mezzanine area upstairs. Their super helpful staff went out of their way to make this an enjoyable and special night which we were so grateful for! Food was also amazing and they even kept the kids busy with coloring in and awesome kids meals. Thanks again we will be back.
Lisa
Neat place tucked away in the corner of Point Chev. I went here for lunch with the family on a Sunday and we were quite a big bunch so can not even begin to imagine how hectic the kitchen would have been....(sorry). The food was great, service was great and definitely had a pleasant meal. The pulled lamb lunch plate did take quite awhile to get out though so that was a bit of a disappointment. From the dishes we did order I recommend the tuna salad, pulled lamb/pork lunch plates and the pizzas from the lunch menu. The kids will also love the items of the kids menu.

Came with a group of about 15, and even though we had a reservation, there was a wee mixup with the table we were booked at. Once settled, we ordered several pizzas and they were delicious. Staff were extremely friendly. Although, my one gripe was that my husband was ID'd while ordering his drink, but I wasn't. WAAAAH JUST ID ME TO MAKE ME FEEL BETTER ABOUT MYSELF LOLOLOL 😝

This is a wonderful restaurant with great atmosphere and space, and delicious food. <br/>The idea is to share everything so me and two others ordered four Little Shares - Lamb Dumplings, Beef Meatballs, Zucchini fritters, and Southern fried chicken. Although these sound standard, they were absolutely delicious with amazing sauces and seasoning. The Beef Meatballs were so tender and had a wonderful flavour. <br/>We also ordered garlic pizza bread - which was substantial and perfectly cooked, and some curly fries. The fries came after everything else and we would have been better off without them, however they were good nonetheless. <br/>For dessert I got a pistachio tiramisu which was really interesting, however the jar made it slightly difficult to eat, and I thought there was a bit too much which made it slightly boring. <br/>Other than that I would definitely return and next time might try some of the Large Shares or Pizzas!

Awesome local in Pt Chev! Their fried chicken is seriously good, you won't want to share. Great takeaway pizzas & a good price. Already been back a few times & will continue to go back.

I enjoy this place for lunches and dinners. Love theirs pizzas for take away as well. Great local place to go. Cosy inside in winter time, good outside in summer spot too. Food is full of flavor and good presentation. Staff is knowledgeable and very attentive.

Smoked chicken pizza was delicious. I would definitely order it again if I were to go back. The waiting staff were also lovely. <br/>Unfortunately I didn't enjoy the pistachio tiramisu. It was served in a jar which was cute but the tiramisu was bland. I couldn't taste any coffee or whiskey in it. Felt like it was a waste of $16.

We visited Nomads on a Saturday night with a grabone voucher. Booked earlier in the day and walked on up. We're locals and visit all the eateries in our area regularly. We'd visited this establishment on many occasions under different management and names and wanted to see if it was as great as we'd heard. It was. We had the most attentive and friendly staff serving us all night. I had the Saku Tuna and my husband the Beef Wellington. We ordered a salad and curly fries- they are legendary my husband informs me. All absolutely delicious and rare to perfection. Just a few let-downs but promptly amended. When we arrived we were seated too close to the couples table beside us by the window behind a pillar. No view, not private enough to talk and too squashy. They kindly moved us upstairs. Also the bathrooms upstairs need a mirror over the basin and a hook on the door to cater for women. We like to apply lipstick and hang our handbags up.

Love the fit out. All experiences here have been pretty great, with the exception of the weekend after they sold their first brunch Grabone - the service and wait was pretty awful, but I suppose when you're that busy, you just do your best to keep your head above water! We've bought a dinner voucher recently and I'm so excited to come use it! The pizza oven and dinner menu seem delicious!

Loved everything about Nomad, the buzzy ambience, customer service and most importantly the food. <br/>We both had prime rib beef dish, which was tender, tasty and a good portion. The mascarpone and onion rings were a perfect complimentary combination to the protein. Oniom rings were the star of the dish as they were just spot on; crunch with the right level of sweetness and flavour.

Called in on a Sunday afternoon around 1.30 pm.Sat in chairs by a lovely fire.Ordered a couple of glasses of bubbles but it appeared to be flat.Spoke to Mathew who immediately arranged replacements and explained the flutes made it appear that way and also the dishwasher sometimes makes it look flat. The replacements were excellent. We only wanted a snack and although the snack menu didn't come on until 3 pm Mathew obliged with Southern Fried Chicken and Curly Fries.A very generous helping which my friend and I shared.Definitely will be back.

We went here last night for the first time, overall I'm impressed with the look and feel of the space, light and airy yet still intimate.<br/>We went with a group of people and all ordered a large plate and a drink, this worked against us as there was 40 minutes between when the first person got their meal and the last. I originally went for the Beef Wellington, however 20 minutes later I was told they had ran out, instead I went for the Lamb Rump & Rack. The lamb rack was tender, perfectly cooked and well seasoned, while the rump was a little hard to slice through, but still well cooked. The pea salad was interesting, but a bit drowned out by the jus. Unfortunately they had also ran out of truffle mascarpone, and had replaced it with truffle oil, which they hadn't mentioned until i queried it. The dish felt like it was slightly missing something, like a puree or a mash - and maybe the mascarpone would have done this justice, instead of being a plate of meat.<br/>Overall it was fairly decent, but I'd definitely recommend going as a couple or a small group and trying multiple small or large platters to share.

Lovely experience. We went as a large group and the majority had grabone vouchers which entitled the holder to a drink and main. I ordered 2 entrees, octopus and ceviche and my partner ordered the 24 hour prime rib. Both were divine. The service was on the slowly however it's understandable that it was a Saturday night. However they did screw up orders a few times. Over all experience was great!

Food was absolutely delicious. We were here in a big group so food took a while to get to us but my beef cheeks were definitely worth it. It melted in your mouth and the buttercup pumpkin was amazing!

Had such a great night at Nomad this evening I had to write about it.  What a little gem.  We had a selection of the small plates - divine!  Best food I've had in a while actually. Great atmosphere, great service.  All staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful.  They were fantastic with my 6 year old, and it wasn't even that early.  We will certainly be back - it is going to be our new local.  Highly recommended.

Hands down best brunch in Auckland! Amazing service, such a cool interior and atmosphere. Coffee was top notch and meals were filling and delicious. Highly recommend the meatballs and eggs dish. Yum!! Definitely get here.

I've been meaning to try Nomad for a while after hearing such great things from friends previously. <br/><br/>We made a snap decision to come here one Sunday when we weren't feeling so fresh, and boy am I glad we chose this place! <br/><br/>The atmosphere is fantastic, we scored seating high up and could see one of the chefs creating traditional Turkish bread below. <br/><br/>The staff were run off their feet due to a recent Grabone apparently, but managed to handle the situation very very well. They continually kept us updated of wait times & maintained a bubbly presence. <br/><br/>The food was also superb, well worth the wait! Also the apple tea took the meal to another level, have been recommending this beverage since trying it!

Had brunch here today using the grabone voucher. Had such an awesome interior very bright and lively! Hot chocolate and coffee arrived, not as hot as we hoped. We ordered brunch dishes and they looked amazing. The banana bread French toast was devine! The staff were very friendly and attentive as well. Would love to go back again!

Went to Nomad with a friend, with a voucher,  Maybe that's why we were treated with disdain.  The waitstaff were so self obsessed, they could barely glance in our direction.  Service was perfunctory to say the least.  The food was O.K., lambs fry could have been sliced thinner, it was a bit like a slab of tongue.  Meal was satisfactory.  Decor is great, bathroom in particular.  BUT, I will never return because of the dismissive attitude of  both the young women who waited on us.  No  warm greeting, a curt "Hello ladies", a term I loathe.  No smile, they approached the table with a stony stare.  Pity, the owner seemed like a friendly guy, I was tempted to tell him, but he probably thinks because  the young women are easy on the eye, that's all that matters, how  wrong  that is.  A  warm welcome means so much, sets the tone for a  great experience. <br/><br/>Barbara H.

I was lucky enough to attend a Zomato foodie meet up at Nomad. Pt Chev is not somewhere I would usually consider for a dinner, but now I know about Nomad its definitely on my list!<br/>It is named Nomad as they want to take you on a journey with the food to bring back memories people have of travel experiences.<br/>We got to taste so much of the menu, starting with the most amazing garlic bread, duck liver parfait, ceviche, octpus, scallops with pork belly and beef tartare.<br/>Next we had the lamb dumplings, duck, prime rib, lamb rump and rack, baby beet salad and ice berg lettuce. Finally finishing with a deconstructed lemon meringue pie and chocolate fondant with salted caramel.<br/>My favourites were the garlic bread, the pork belly, the prime rib and both desserts! So much good food!

Cosmopolitan is a word I would use here - the setting, and the food - especially the food.  This really is a veritable hidden gem - in Point Chev. <br/><br/>I had a fabulous evening at Nomad, with the winter solstice - it is so easy to actually 'enjoy' the bad weather when you are tucked up in a great little restaurant and food-loving company - surrounded by an array of gorgeous dishes. These 'dishes'  were carefully chosen from the menu by Jared, and accompanied by an inspired wine match.<br/><br/>Every morsel was cooked to perfection with a hint of Middle Eastern influence, but a very definite nod to terrific New Zealand produce.  Giving meaning to the name Nomad - it is as though a few little treasures have been picked up on a journey and gently, subtly even, incorporated into the best local offerings.<br/><br/>I just loved the Duck liver parfait, za'atar, parmesan crumb, date gel and a warm baguette...and from the few descriptions here you can see the subtlety of the influences I have referred to...<br/>Lamb Dumplings, chimi churri, labne, jus<br/>Baby beet salad, tomino, watercress, candied walnuts, orange textures<br/>Lamb rump and rack, pea salad, truffle mascarpone

Loved the scenery of this place! Food looked delicious and well presented. Tasted as good as it looks, only let down was the over half hour wait for the drinks and food. Asides from that would definitely go again to try their other meals.

Finally a reason to visit Pt Chev :-) I always had the feeling (probably rightly so) that the culinary highlight of Pt Chev was the Macca's. How wrong one can be. Of course I was suspicious, something wasn't right. It almost seemed like the restaurant was trying to be something it wasn't, but hey I can overlook exposed brickwork and trendy furniture if I am tempted with a dazzling array of sharing plates :-) Kudos to Jared for putting together such a fine establishment and telling us the vision of all of us being nomads on a food journey. He served us with panache and intensity. His imported Italian pizza maestro Tony was reigning supreme on a raised platform like a medieval Gaul. This and the food itself lent a Mediterranean flavour to the restaurant, and we sampled fourteen amazing dishes in total, from the unique chargrilled octopus with red chilli caviar, through to ceviche, beef tartare, 24 hour prime rib, twice cooked duck, lamb dumplings, and then ending with a chocolate fondant and a deconstructed lemon meringue pie..... the accompanying matching wines were also superb, especially the final Muscatel dessert wine! #ZomatoMeetup

Went to Nomad this weekend using their Grab One deal ($22 for any 2 breakfast items) - it was great.<br/><br/>The decor is absolutely beautiful, it looks fantastic! It's a warm, inviting atmosphere, with a large upstairs section that almost doubled the floor space.<br/><br/>We waited about an hour for our food and drinks, as they were incredibly busy with patrons who had the bought the same grab one deal. Our waitress did let us know up front, however, that it would be a bit of a wait.<br/><br/>I ate the moorish meatballs with baked eggs and Turkish bread. The egg yolks were baked too hard for my liking, as I prefer them to be runny. The three others I was eating with all had eggs Benedict - the option with the salmon was apparently particularly delicious. I do wish they used free range eggs however.<br/><br/>All in all, I'll be back - maybe for a pizza next time.

This place is fantastic! We were told it was good however our expectations were well and truly exceeded. We hosted a group of 35 business colleagues for dinner in the private mezzanine area and our guests couldn't stop raving about it. We chose a set menu however there was something for everyone. The food was 5 star and only outdone by the quality of the service. I have been back since with my partner and we loved it even more than the first visit. Highly recommended for both groups and quiet dining.

My friend took me to lunch here today for my birthday treat. We arrived shortly after 11.30am. We were unable to sit upstairs as it was being used for a function. So we chose to sit in the restaurant areas as opposed to the bar area. The waitress was attentive and we explained that we don't eat grains/sugars, so she helped us choose from the small plates menu. We chose 4 small plates - octopus, fish, meatballs and salad. All very delicious and satisfying each with their unique flavours. <br/><br/>I have been in busier cafes on Friday lunchtimes, the diners were sparse. I hope that more people will make the effort to come out and enjoy. The decor is fresh and interesting, making the most of the space. Unfortunately, parking is an issue in this area at the time of day we visited.

Have visited the new restaurant about three times since it opened.  Once immediately after opening and a couple of times since.  Excellent menu choice, great service, well appointed restaurant and a credit the management and team.  The liver pate as a starter was smooth as silk and the Lemon Meringue was to die for.  Pizza's are simple, uncluttered but taste outstanding and do not overfill you leaving room for dessert and coffee.  Great work and highly recommend to any perspective new customers.

Meals were beautiful. One exception was the pizza which was a bit greasy/soggy making it very difficult to pick up, although it was tasty. I would give a 9/10 to the Scallops and Pork Belly (the crackling could have been better), an 8/10 for the Lamb Dumplings (lamb a little dry and I didn't get the labneh on the menu) and the Fondant an 11/10. We told the waitress that we were ordering individually but ended up with meals arriving at different times with long gaps. There was about 10 minutes between when the first one of us got our starter and when the second of us did. Waitress was very attendant at the start of the meal but trailed off later on and the maitre d had to attend us in the end. Really well priced for what you get. Would definitely go back and look forward to them ironing out the kinks with timing and staff.

A awesome addition to the local PT Chev/Waterview scene. Nice open bar with a great selection of drinks and food for all types. We had birthday drinks there with a group of ~20 in the bar on sat afternoon/evening. Service was excellent and everyone was able to order their own food for children and adults alike. Curly fries are naughty but excellent!

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Nomad last Saturday,. This building used to be a large barn like Pub. It has been completely transformed with a beautiful large space on two levels. The Service was excellent and very welcoming. The food was delicious. We trialled a smoked chicken pizza as well as some tapas. I am not a great fan of Pizza but this was one of the best that I have tried with a very thin scrumptious base and a tasty topping. For small shares we tried Paua tortellini  and fish cerviche. Both of these dishes were  very tasty. We also had Beef Cheeks which were so delicious that we ordered a second plate. For  dessert we tasted pistachio tirimasu and black forest gateau both of which were  delicious. However they were not in the traditional style. So be prepared. The toilets are the best in town!!

I held my 40th birthday party at Nomad on Friday night and the evening couldn't have gone better.  I must admit I was a little nervous holding the event at a venue that hadn't been open for long and was a little outside the centre of town.  However all my concerns were put to rest once myself and guests (a party of around 40 people) arrived.<br/><br/>We had the mezzanine floor for our party and it was a perfect ambience; a dimly lit private area high above the rest of the restaurant where you could observe the pizza kitchen, people watch, and listen to the live music below.  The private upstairs bar is also a great addition which (fortunately/unfortunately) made it very easy to order that next drink!<br/><br/>The service was amazing.  Before the event Amanda helped me organise the event down to the finest detail, and on the night everything was executed almost perfectly.  The floor staff were very attentive, professional, and humorous; especially "Coco" who looked after us very well all night.<br/><br/>The live music downstairs was also great.  It's something that Ragu (previous name of this venue) didn't have and I think it's a great addition to this modernised look and feel of Nomad.  Live music adds a great vibe to a venue, especially for a function event.<br/><br/>The "icing on the cake" for me and my guests however was the food and beverages.  With Amanda and the head chef I worked through selecting a menu ranging from carnivore and vegetarian canapés, tapas, pizzas, and cheeses for the party, and every single one of them was fantastic.  The crowd favourite however was definitely the Chicken Quesadillas.  Wow.  The wine and beer selection is well curated and my guests seemed to have no problem sampling the various house options many times over.<br/><br/>The evening wasn't completely perfect, however any issues we did have with the night were minor and logistical only; to be expected considering it was probably the first, or one of the first, functions they have held in the restaurant since opening their doors a few months ago.  The good by far outweighed the minor niggles.<br/><br/>All in all Nomad is a fantastic function venue with a great ambience, fantastic service, and food and wine to die for.  I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to others for a similar event.<br/><br/>Nomad is a welcome addition to Point Chevalier.  I only hope the landlords of the Pt Chev. Arcade invest in an upgrade soon to bring the surrounding area up to the high standard they have set.<br/><br/>Thank you to Amanda and all the Nomad team for making my night a huge success.

Friday night takeout from Nomad was quite disappointing. I ordered La Bella Italia pizza and curly fries. When I got home I noticed there was no aoli for the fries and the pizza was under cooked, base was soggy and cheese wasn't melted.

What amazing bathrooms!!! So beautifully done, great food but would of liked to see a bit more for the price. Had a cute little duo singing. Only down side that is was a little too loud so we were having to yell across the table so probably wouldn't go on a Friday night again unless it was for a boozey night.

Interesting new spot in Pt. Chev - the food was really well prepared and creative and the serving staff was attentive. We found some of the dishes to be a little over the top though. The Charcuterie Board was a great value and had some good variety.<br/>All in all, a good new spot that I would definitely recommend for a drink or meal out.

Delicious food especially the pizza. Really nice inside! And staff are all cool!! Great place to chill would go back again. And have been many times since :D

Had dinner here on Saturday night.  Really interesting food, amazing presentation.  Be adventurous and try something different - we had the octopus & duck entrees and 1 pizza & shared a dessert between 3 people and we were full.  Inside the restaurant is huge and really nicely renovated from Ragu days.  Highlight was the Turkish Delight dessert.  Staff were super friendly and service was fast - we were eating within 25 minutes of arriving.  Excellent wine and beer list and very well priced.  They have an amazing kids menu too.Lovely clean toilets too which sadly, lots of restaurants forget about.Only downside is that this part of Pt Chev (by the library) is sadly neglected and even a bit dodgy feeling at night.

Nice big open bar that flows out onto the street facing the afternoon sun. A modern selection of sharing plates with a good range of beers and wines by the glass. For me the Tartare was a winner. Will be back to try the pizza.

Wow we had the best meal we had, had in a long time at Nomad. We had the Duck Parfait, Wood smoked flank with marrow, Charcuterie, Courgette flowers, and croquettes and every dish was flawless. Amazing food, great service, what more could you want really?
