Review Dutch Delight - Auckland Central

Hungry Teddy
Happy to find an authentic dutch restaurant here. The sharing platter is good to try a few different starters. Savory pancake was great. Poffertjes was good as well. Very friendly. We are quite happy with the food.

One of the best secrets of the locals. Been here many times and never disappointed. Their peanut sauce is just divine. Worth every bit of the 30pp. Highly recommended to woo your dates. The proprietors are absolutely lovely and go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.

Taste wise super amazing! Especially the savoury pancakes and the poffertjes ❤ so impressed about how the way their serve us. Super friendly. Definitely will come again and again and again!

Great experience here :) All of the staff were very lovely and gave good recommendations in regards to the menu. Food was delicious!

I've always wanted to come here when I'm over the shore and when a grabone was on offer, we decided to visit. It was my first time to really eat dutch food and it was delicious. Willem the owner was very friendly and helpful to make our decision and explain what was on the menu. We ended getting a 3 course meal and highly recommend the dutch poffertjes which is fried dough with butter and icing sugar. The dutch syrup tasted so good. Looking forward in coming back again and tasting more things from there menu

Always amazing food and good Company here , Willem and Heidi are the most welcoming hosts and have a menu of epic food to leave you full to the brim when you leave

The food is so delicious and not expensive at all. The staff is super friendly. I will keep coming here without any doubt.

Came by specifically for their poffertjes, which are essentially mini pancakes. I hadn't been back in a while and the place looks a bit fancier than before with standard tables as well as table benches. It does look a bit smaller though. They have other desserts (a page in fact) but came here just for the poffertjes. I had it with the ice cream and whipped cream just cause. It also came with a Dutch sauce which tastes like golden syrup. Good food and the service was also quite nice.

Love this place, the food is fantastic and the Dutch food is authentic. I love coming here, because its a reminder and familiar taste of a place I used to call home for a year. They have a good balance of mains (not too many that you feel overwhelmed) and your food is fresh, tasty and delicious. My favourite is their Poffertjes which are like bites of heaven that melt in your mouth.

I first got to know Dutch Delight through Groupon. I brought my aunty along and we were especially curious with the starters and snacks, with their lovely Dutch names, as this was the first time we tried Dutch food. They were yummy! I booked another meal for my family and Willem was very nice and made us feel at home and special. The mains, desserts and drinks (some were sinfully decadent and rich) were all very nice. Don't skip the fries with the lovely sauces, and you get to try a bit of different starters/snacks with the sharing platter. Lovely cosy ambiance.

I am obsessed with the Dutch pancakes here. You absolutely have to try them. Hot, fluffy, sweet, little salty, buttery perfection. Owners are also super friendly and you will wish you had tried this place earlier.

Great service and yummy deserts! Would recommend and go again!

For mains, got the shaorma pancake which was shaorma marinated pork with apples and potatoes - the pork was a little too salty, although the salmon pancake was delicious. For dessert, we got Heidi’s pancake which was a creamy mascarpone, apple and cinnamon filling - rich and creamy, very filling and the actual pancake was delish 😍
Ill
Very good selection of sweet and savoury options to choose from and very good and friendly service from the owner!

Speculaa pancake was amazing! 😍😋<br/>Perfect choice for my first visit matched with real Fristi (yoghurt with berries drink)! Will definitely come back to try the savoury pancakes.

This place is a little gem in Birkenhead.. Went there today after a hiccup (from me) rebooked and no issues from owner Willem. I had the Indonesian pancake which was fabulous plus got takeaways for the apple tart and Dutch babies which was throughly enjoyed by my daughter- will be back with my family

Food is just ok. The price doesn't match the value. We won't come again because the attitude of the staff/boss. We mentioned that we'll use the $50 voucher when we ordered. So it's necessary to know how much of total price. If it's not reach $50, we'd like to order more. But when I caculate the price, the old man kept saying 3 times "oh my gosh”, as if I was poor and unwilling to pay more than $50. It makes me unhappy. I think your attitude is rude. I'm your customer, no matter I use voucher or not, you should respect me firstly, please.

The owner is very friendly and funny. This place is great whether you want something savoury or sweet, they have an extensive selcetion of food. Best of all they are open late if you're craving a late night dessert.

This place is an absolute delight! Where do we start? We highly rate Wilhelm and Heidi’s warm hospitality, the amazing pancakes, bitteballen and milkshakes. 10/10, will definitely be coming back again and again and again! Dank je vel!

Food was delicious, didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never had Dutch food before . Could eat myself stupid though. Have a 4 as took a little while to receive my meal . The warm cherry poffertjes were a stand out .

Been planning to visit Dutch Delight since my boyfriend mentioned about it, and it didn't disappoint! The ambience is very cosy and the food was delicious! We ordered a gluten free Cherry pancake with icecream and it was heavenly! Portions are huge too. Looks like this is going to be my new favorite dessert joint!<br/>Service was very friendly and welcoming. Definitely visiting again to try the other dishes!<br/>

Excellent Dutch comfort food, and amazing service! We shared starters and desserts and left feeling very satisfied. The platter we shared was full of family favourites, but with a nice Dutch twist. The poffertjes were delectable and the pancake was generous and great for sharing.<br/><br/>Our hosts were friendly and welcoming, and they really made my mum's birthday special with some nice surprises. There are also plenty of options for kids and a nice play room to keep them occupied.<br/><br/>This is a great neighbourhood place suitable for a treat night with the kids, a beer and snacks with friends, or a special dessert.

One of the best places to visit in Birkenhead, delicious food and wonderful atmosphere. <br/>Location is great and plenty of parking round the area.

A piece of heaven in the heart of Birkenhead, I usually come to Dutch Delight for dessert. Everything on the dessert menu is carefully prepared and made to perfection! The place also emits a a great vibe to wind down to after a long day of work, I would highly suggest this place for a good causal hangout with mates, the only thing that sucks is that I live so far away I can’t go as often as I want! Overall keep up the good work 🙂

Service is AMAZING!!! Poffertjies are absolutely mouth watering delicious!!! Such a warm cosy place to go for a date or just to hang out! Would 100% recommend for a tasty treat 😊

Ambience is very warm, nice, and cosy. Food was a hit and miss for me. <br/><br/>The appetiser plate was really nice with Dutch sausages, and various deep fried spring-roll sort of things. One of these had an awesome punch of spice that I really enjoyed. Hard to go wrong with deep fried cheese sticks too. Of the three sauces that came with the platter, the peanut satay sauce was the best! <br/><br/>However, I didn’t really like the Indonesian pancake I ordered. It had a nice flavour but didn’t come with bean sprouts, as described on the menu, and it was too salty which made it too overwhelming for one pancake. <br/><br/>Their winter meals looked delicious. The one I’ve uploaded a photo of was called Zuurkool and it’s a dish that comes with sausages, bacon, and gravy on a huge bed of mashed potatoes. I would really like to try this next time, it looks amazing and is one massive meal. <br/><br/>I love their poffertjes, which are like mini pancakes, and their deserts, but remain unsure of their savoury pancakes.

Amazing and delicious food! Dairy free pancakes are available. Big portions and wonderfully decorated! Definitely would recommend to friends.

This is such a wonderful place to eat. We we meant to go somewhere and thanks to zomato recommendation to the closes eat. We choose to try this place out.<br/><br/>Worth it!<br/><br/>The place have very nice deco and everyone who works there is super friendly. The girl who attended our table was awesome.<br/><br/>Food is perfect. Me n my friends left feeling satisfied. Definitely a place you want to go at Birkenhead!

Happy Tummy Happy Life!!! I had amazing experience. The owner was very friendly and very entertaining. This is my first time having savoury pancakes and I tell you, it was such a delight! The entree was very yummy and sauces was definitely different but good different! The mains was sooo flavourful and I could easily eat a large portion, it definitely hit the spot. The dessert was probably my favourite part! I had the Rum and Raisin Pancake and Special Hot Chocolate with Irish Cream. When they say Rum and Irish cream (or any alcoholic food), they mean it. They don’t waste time cutting on alcohol, they will get you drunk on just desserts hahaha. All in all, great food, great price, and great people! I am a very satisfied customer!😊😊😊

This is a hidden gem! It has such a great little vibe. We've only ever gone for dessert and are always super full when we leave. We're looking forward to trying this place for dinner one day soon! I always recommend this place for dessert though.

We wanted to try something new so we drived from Mt Eden to Birkenhead to know this place. We had a great time there. We wanted something sweet and this was the right place to get it!<br/>We ordered one hot chocolate and a mocca, both soy and they came on large glass cups with some kind of cinnamon dutch cookies (so yum). Also we ordered a Heidi's pancake (apple, cinnamon ad mascarpone). The best decision ever!<br/>The place is nice and every little part is Dutch, the staff is very friendly. The portions are generous and it's not expensive for the quantity and quality!<br/>We will definitely go there again!

I ordered the Apple Tart and a flat white - both were absolutely perfect! Satisfied my sweet tooth immensely. The apple tart was paired nicely with a vanilla ice cream and tasted homely. The flat white was one of the best coffees I have ever had so will definitely be coming back for more. Lovely staff and owners who put a lot of effort and pride in their work to make you feel welcomed and appreciated. Will be coming back!

Lets start with that i am dutch and love the typical dutch food as i grew up with it. This is the only place in the whole of auckland that have it. The food is decent quality, but it takes really long to come out for a small order.. the place is dated and uncomfy to sit at.. owners are nice, staff is not very friendly and english is not good.. overall i keep coming back once a month just because they are the only one in town.. (honest opinion) hope this helps.
Tony Weaver
Great food and excellent service. I was expecting a general serve with food bit they were large portions and the food was so good. Don't eat for a while before you go, every bite is worth it.<br/>
Rose Weaver
Absolutely wonderful food and such a massive range, we had no idea there were so many Dutch dishes available, we were just used to seeing Poffertjes and Waffles, but this place has so much more! Staff were super friendly and efficient and really enjoyed helping us figure out the menu options. Definately worth a detour if you're not in the area, the food and service is amazing. We look forward to coming back next year when we're on holidays. Thank for you being the true example of hospitality.<br/>

First visit to Dutch delight . <br/>I got the heidi pancakes which tasted nice but were completely cold? Not even warm? I’m new to Dutch food so perhaps that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be so I’m not down voting it as the flavour was nice- however I prefer hot pancakes so next visit I will definitely be confirming that detail. The other pancake - cherry and custard was very nice :) overall I thought the food was ok. <br/>I would probably visit again and try something else

My husband and I were craving something sweet to eat for a Sunday afternoon treat. We are both Afrikaans which is derived from the form of Dutch brought to the Cape by settlers in the 17th century. It was so amazing to see how some of the dishes we ate as kids in our grandparent's kitchens were on the menu. <br/><br/>We were not disappointed at all and it is exactly as our mothers and grandmothers would serve it. The poffertjes and speculaas pancake life up to their great reputation and I would recommend them for all. Thank you to the owner for being such a friendly host and making us feel at home. <br/><br/>As a couple, we are extremely excited to have found this gem of a place and can not wait to make it part of our regular places to dine at.
Garth Hauraki

At Dutch Delight restaurant you can eat delicious Dutch snacks. All snacks are freshly prepared and you can taste that! The staff are very friendly and take all the time for you and are always in for a good conversation! Nice decor and really feels like you're in the Netherlands! now regular customer at restaurant Dutch Delight and will often come back !!
Mike
Always love eating at Dutch Delight. From all the home made bitterballen to delicious pancakes (either sweet or savoury). Staff is always friendly and it’s nice to speak some Dutch with the owners Willem and Heidi. A special treat is the iced coffee and of course the poffertjes with butter and ice cream. I think their pricing is fair, specially considering today’s pricing at other restaurants. Even a quick visit to McDonalds isn’t cheap anymore people. Dutch Delights food is good, honest and their portions are more then fair (you will need a doggy bag lol)
Kaz
Omg never ever again", the quality of the food is really bad, had the garlic bread it was cut stale French stick with cheese and nuts on top and couldn't taste the garlic. Beef croquette could of been anything and was horrible, chicken satay was tough and everything is over priced for the crap they serve up. However I did not have a pancake, so can't comment there.<br/>So like i said never ever again!!!!
Larissa Denton
Wow, so overpriced it took our breath away! $40 for a sharing platter that only contained small, deep fried morsels that noone was overly impressed with and three weird, gloopy sauces. I had the hachee for $20 which was about four spoonfuls of mashed potatoes and the same amount of meat stew (meat in gravy) which was over cooked with the sauce being reduced too much and very salty. The sign at the front said something about the best Dutch coffee, but my husband said the coffee was weak. All in all the food tasted OK but if you are a foodie in any way don't bother going here, we won't be back that's for sure. One last thing, my dutch mother-in-law was not too impressed either and said that she in no way felt transported back to Holland...
MIMD
Dutch Delight was an awesome experience! The place was nicely decorated with a Dutch theme. The staff are very friendly and are energetic. The food is just 10/10... The poffertjes gave me delight! Their poffertjes are now my favourite dessert. The bitter ballen was 100% amazing, gave me a really good taste of Holland. <br/>Thanks, Dutch Delight!

Came here for my auntys birthday who is a regular there, sercice was lovely. Food was great and couldnt even finished. Best part was mocha in a bowl!!!!

Been meaning to go there for ages and was not disappointed.<br/><br/>Went there with a friend and we shared the snacks tasting platter, which had 2 units of 5 different snacks, and chips with peanut sauce. Everything was crispy and tasty. For dessert we shared the medium sized poffertjes and it was delicious I wanted to lick the plate after done. We were also offered different sauces to pour over, which was a nice gesture, so decided to go with the classic waffle syrup.<br/><br/>Service was very good, personal and warm. Had a lovely chat with the owners whilst deciding what to order and waiting for our food.<br/><br/>I will definitely come back to try other items on the menu, and I'll definitely order the poffertjes again.<br/>
Jenny Lyn
Little gem in auckland! Ordered a savoury pancake and dessert. Really Really nice, friendly manager. Definitely will come back again, well recommended.
Milou Van Beek
Amazing restaurant and great service from the true Dutchies. Definitely coming back for another round of poffertjes, frikadellen speciaal etc.!

Came here for a quick lunch with a friend and it did not disappoint. We ordered the small sampler platter to share. The waitress was really lovely and explained to us each individual item on the platter. Everything on the platter was delicious and it was really interesting trying all the different flavours. Will definitely be back to try the other menu items<br/><br/>UPDATE: 14-10-17 <br/>Came back here a second time with a couple of friends and yet again really enjoyed the experience. The chocomel was really good and the poffertjes were delightful.
Lillian
Such a cute place, looks just like a pancake place you can find in Holland/Amsterdam with a huge selection of sweet and savoury pancakes!<br/>I was nearby for a show and we came here at 9pm (closing time is 10pm) for some poffertjes, which is those cute little Dutch pancakes. Three of us shared a plate of 15 special poffertjes served with whipped cream and warm cherries ($22.50). I wish the warm cherries sauce was more jammy but none of the less it was a little plate of warm heaven. I also got a hot chocolate that was pretty good too.<br/>People cleared out around 945pm and we eventually leave just around 10pm. The owner/staff were really nice and welcoming.

Poffertjes - Loved this dessert 😍😋 It was soft, fluffy, light, moist and not too sweet. I would go back here next time. Great with the vanilla ice-cream! The strawberry, chocolate and dutch syrup was superb! Would definitely recommend trying this 😄
Snsong31
pancakes are very nice and rich!I tried farmers and lunch pancakes this time. The farmers one is sooooo good with rich ingredients. will try seafood and salmon next time. AND! The staff is super friendly!
Janneke Groenewegen
Friendly staff, delicious food, cute and quaint little place. It definitely catered to our much needed dutch food fix! Well worth the trip iver the bridge from south auckland. We will be back against sure!
Nina
Thier coffee!!! Superb! The owner is always there, Great guy, fabulous atmosphere. Delicious Dutch pancakes. We ordered the Heidi and Tiramisu pancake. It was huge! Enough to fill upto 3 people. I didn't like the Heidi pancake since it has raw apples inside, my preference is cooked apples in pancakes. The tiramisu pancake was really delicious!! We also ordered the 9 pieces profiteroles with powdered sugar also delicious. <br/><br/><br/>This place closes on Mondays and opens all others days until 10pm. It's cozy and I wil definitely go back.<br/><br/><br/>My second visit: I ordered the Apple tart with ice cream, oh my word... fabulous, light and fluffy pastry filled with loads of spiced apples. You'll have a choice between ice cream or whipped cream... go with ice cream as it melts withbthe warm apple tart. Fabulous fabulous, will definitely keep coming back.

It feels like a cafe you'd walk into in the heart of Amsterdam, lovely ambience, beautiful hand painted murals and even a selection of Dutch goodies. We are so satisfied with our experience tonight. Right from booking earlier in the day to the service we received. The food was generous, fresh and hot. We had a share platter with a selection of fried Dutch foods, the friet oorlog which was so authentic it instantly filled all of my nostalgic voids. The savoury pancakes were so unique and jam packed with well not jam but an assortment of other equally as delicious fillings. We had apple taart for desert which although we were so full we were about to pop, it hit the sweet spot and ended our night perfectly. Definitely be back :-).
Kiwi Eats Asia
We had a really nice brunch here with a Grabone voucher. As a table of 4 we ordered the medium mixed platter of hot snacks and two father sized traditional poffertjes plates. I really enjoyed all the hot delights on the mixed platter - we got to try 5 different little yummies that were all explained to us as they were served. My favourite was the hot cheese pastry, the little piece of dutch sausage and the ragout balls. There were 4 of each so perfect to share on our table. The poffertjes were a bit disappointing to me - I think I'm spoilt from my mum's homemade poffertjes. They just seemed a bit undercooked with a batter-y texture. There was plenty of butter on them but not quite enough icing sugar for my liking. They kindly offered all sorts of sauces on the side to liberally pour over. Very generous. Price was a bit high for the number on the plate but very reasonable with the voucher. We also had chocomel which is dutch bottled choc milk. Yum :) Service was super friendly and kind. Atmosphere also very nice. I would love to come back and try more things as the menu is huge and completely devoid of boring cafe classics which is my favourite part.
Alex “Alg” G
The perfect customer service and amazing food keeps me coming back for more. The food and deserts is unique and very different from normal restaurants.
Kaizeen Kolah
My friend had raved about this place and brought me here last night. I was incredibly happy that it exceeded my expectations. The decor is cute and cozy, the pancakes - delicioussss (must try with that extra syrup). The owner was so cheerful and lovely. My friend mentioned that it was my birthday and so the owner brought out the pancake with a sparkler and even learned my name before and sang happy birthday with my friend. The full experience was so simple yet so wonderful. Thank you Willem :) would absolutely recommend this place to anyone wanting to have delicious dessert and superb customer service. Will defiantly be back.

Very cozy and nice place!!!<br/>Delicious food and very friendly staff :)<br/>We had a sharing platter and it's sooooo nice!<br/>I'm so glad that I found this place!<br/>Sehr lecker!!!!!!

My partner and I booked a table for 2 on a Wednesday night using a GrabOne coupon. The ambience was excellent, aswell as the service being top notch. We had the Chicken Satay burger and Seafood Savory Pancake. They were delicious and would gladly pay full price next time. Would recommend the pancakes!<br/><br/><br/>
Casslyn Tee
Purchased the grabone voucher as we decided to give dutch cuisine a go! Warm and cosy place which we enjoyed; staffs were friendly and accomodating. We ordered the savoury pancakes (CCBA and Shoarma pancakes) and proffertjes and oh dearrr everything was delishh!! Night ended very well. Clean restroom too which is a huge plus! :)
Britley Bennett
I have always loved the poffertjes and crave them whenever I think about them. I have only tried one other thing on the menu but it was years ago but I remember it being very tasty as it was pizza toppings on a pancake
Imperius Malekith
Excellent coffee and food. The staff were also really polite, we came much later than our booking and they didn't make a fuss over it.  I'd recommend the savoury chicken pancakes and the proffertjes. It's reasonably priced for a cafe, worth visiting if you're in the area.
Eaeting Lovse
Love this place for desert or breakfast!  Great service, the best dessert ever. When I visited Europe I went to the Netherlands and ate poffertjes and they weren't too good. But over here in Dutch delight they are fantastic! I definitely recommend coming here!
BAbyWin
My friend brought me here once and I keep on coming back bringing different friends. Everytime my visit I never forget to order their Original Dutch Poffertjes. Absolutely beautiful with the Dutch maple syrup. My another big favorite is their Custard Pancake with warm cherries, homemade custard and Dutch warm brandy. If you have a very sweet tooth you can go for the Baklava pancake. I had better moment coming in during daytime compare to dinner time.
Darin Kitching
Absolutely top visit to Dutch Delight as usual. Willem always goes that little bit extra for his guest and especially for visitors we had over from Holland.<br/>Always look forward to it.<br/>PS. try the Gyros pancake, it is fantastic!<br/>Darin

We love this place. The pancakes are amazing and the Poffertjies with the dark Dutch syrup are absolutely delicious. We found the family who run this restaurant friendly and hospitable. Have gone there many times and will do so again in the future.

Came here with a grabone voucher. Delicious food! The poffertjes are definitely a must try, lunch pancake and Indonesian pancake are also really good with the garlic sauce! The people there are very friendly and lovely, will definitely come back again!
Jessica
If you are ever craving pancakes for breakfast, you have to come here! In my opinion these guys do the best dessert breakfast options out of everywhere! My personal favourite thing to order is the poffertjes. The service is always great, the owner guy is absolutely lovely. It's a small little café and takes a little while for you get to the food. But it is for sure worth the wait! Recommended for everyone to take anyone! A must try!!
Liz Rouse
Visited DD for the 3rd time. Previously for dinner, but I noticed on a daily deal that they were open til 10pm. My 3 amigos and I go out for dinner on a Thursday to one place then go elsewhere for coffee and maybe a slice. So off to Birkenhead we went, the guys couldn't decide whether to share the real Dutch mouth watering appeltaart, so they had one each,my girlfriend and I shared the Oma's vanilla slice a vanilla cake served whipped cream & Dutch advocaat OMG I slept well that night. The hot drinks we ordered were just right. Host Willem was very attentive. A great night was had by all so different from my last review of a different place <br/>. "WE'LL BE BACK "
Jeremy
We were absolutely delighted to find the Dutch delight. The food was outstanding! We had the pancakes, desert and awesome hot chocolate. Willem and the team made us very welcome!<br/><br/>Would highly recommend a visit.
Larry Chan
Excellent service! Excellent food! The winter menu is awesome! Willem (the boss) is very friendly. As English is our second language Willem was very helpful in explaining the dishes in the menu for us. I would strongly recommend everyone to go try out their winter menu as they are served only in Winter, and only limited amount is served each day.Overall dining in Dutch Delight is one of the best dining experience we ever had in Auckland. Would definitely go again to try their awesome dessert! :D
Shelbz
Loved it !!! both my mum and I loved there pancakes that we received with fruit and whipped cream. Would have loved to have gotten real cream instead of the can cream but still a very delicious treat !!! Will definitely be back again :)<br/>
Fiona Ong
An Englishman, a Malaysian and a Dutchman! sounds like a bad joke; but was actually a great meal out at Dutch Delights. Tasty food, quaint little cafe and great service. Would recommend the meatballs and the gyros savoury pancake, but nothing we had will disappoint. Will come back again! :)
Juanine
Although we stopped in for lunch, it was to hard to resist the sweet offerings. We had the tiramisu pancake, Apple tart and kids chicken nuggets and chips. The pancake was a really good size and quite delicious. The apple tart was very fresh tasting with just the right amount of spice. My son enjoyed his nuggets and chips. We will definitely be visiting again.<br/>
Maureen
We had an awesome time as always. Love the food, love the owner and the rest of the staff. Will be back soon. Highly recommend to everyone.

It is always a huge (not just dutch!) delight to be served Willems scrumptious food, solid, beautiful homeccoked-like fare, in all shapes and sizes, and easy to accomodate special wishes!! He makes us feel special, as he always welcomes us for our monthaversary, personal, it's our go-to treat, where we also love to take friends!<br/>We highly commend Willem and his friendly staff! Tot siens, hasta la vista and auf Wiedersehen, Anna&Axel

Went to Dutch delight for dinner with my girlfriend to celebrate a special occasion and have to say I'm very impressed. Between the excellent customer service front of house and the amazing food that came out of kitchen, I'll be back to try all the different desserts they have on offer!!! A+++
Ana
Lovely little Dutch cafe, perfect for brunch! I went here with my sisters for dessert actually and the Dutch pancakes were amazing. They also give you extra sauces to drizzle over them, a nice touch! The coffee bowls are the size of my face so if you love your coffee, go for a bowl.

This place is Awesome ! <br/><br/>First, I made a booking before came here. Surprisingly, they put my name on a small chalkboard and put it on the table together with a cute small candle.. isnt that lovely ?<br/>Aww, first impression is important ! <br/><br/>No doubt about the service, he was so nice and made sure that everything is perfect ! <br/>The place is so pretty and peaceful :)<br/><br/>Food ! <br/>Ordered the father size poffertjes with ice cream and cream and it was delicious.. so delicious ! <br/>Heidi's apple pancake is also good and we can feel the authentication of dutch syrup and apple pancake ! <br/>Bitterballen exactly just the right entree for us ! <br/>We were so full but couldnt bare how good the poffertjes are, so we ordered the kids size again ! <br/><br/>Definetely will.come back again !

I was craving something sweet and have always wanted to try Dutch Delight but never had the chance to. I went in last night and ordered the Dutch pancakes which came with ice cream, whipped cream, rasberry and choc syrup. Wow Willem the owner was so lovely. The pancakes and chocolate milkshake was worth $20.<br/><br/>I am going back tonight with friends for dessert. 😍
TJ Boparai
We went to this restaurant/cafe on Mother's day and were very pleased with our visit. It was our very first introduction to Dutch food and we were not disappointed at all. The owner gladly helped us in understanding the menu and recommending the dishes. All the courses were beautifully cooked and tasted divergent. All though the place is not very cosy and expensive but it is still worth the repeat visits. The food tasted extra ordinary and you have to give credit for the intensive labour used. We will be back.<br/>

I've always wanted to visit this place ever since I heard about it. I saw groupon havinng a deal I couldn't resist. Came over today for late tea time/ dinner..The owner was very friendly..The place was cosy..we ordered a few items from the snack menu..Between the both of us, we ordered a small snack platter consisting of kaas soufle, fricandel, bitterballen, broodje bal & something that looks like a spring roll with egg chicken filling..we also had a patat oorlog and nassi schijf. To wash it all down, we had Chocomel & Fristi..Mmm.. I was too full to eat anything else..I want to try the dessert menu next..Will update when we go the next time.. They also have a small section of dutch goodies and cooking mixes to buy 😊😊

Love coming to Dutch Delight. Friendly staff, great Dutch foods and drinks and it feels like a little slice of Holland in our own back yard! Highly recommend for relaxed family dining or for a celebration. We had my husband's 30th here and the staff went all-out to make it memorable. Our friends all loved the experience and said they'd be coming to Dutch Delight again, for sure! Thanks for always making it wonderful! 👌🏻

Me and my partner tried this place out last night... It was absolutely awesome! For the starter we got a shared platter which was sooooo good, meatballs, sausages, crumbed cheese and a sort of curry roll.. Was an excellent dish! For our mains we got the savoury pancakes, I got the farmhouse and he got the pork one.. Both were delicious and sooooo fulling! We literally could not squeeze anymore good in. Which was sad because we were looking forward to the desert menu! Definitely will be back to test that menu out! The service was lovely - Willem the owner was a sweetheart and made sure we were very comfortable. We had a grab one voucher but insisted on paying full price - it was awesome and well worth the money! Definitely worth a visit if you haven't been already - we will definitely be back!

Great place to try different kinds of desserts. Friendly service, interesting decor, interesting food to try from Netherlands/Indonesia. Would love to try coffee and more desserts next time.

There are not many Dutch pancake cafes/restaurants in Auckland, but this place nailed it. Poffertjes are just perfect, mouth-watering mini dutch pancakes. They are moist inside, smooth texture with buttery aroma. They just go well with icing sugar and syrup, not too sweet just divine. Another masterpiece of this place is Grandma's Chocolate Cake, so moist and soft, filled with flavoured-cream (not sure if it's raspberry or strawberry), cream is not too sweet, blended with a taste of lemon, covered with chocolate fudge and fresh cream. The cream inside and cake blend so well, not too sweet, just delightful. Willem, the owner is very attentive to his customers, I will not rate 5 because foods are just a bit pricey, nice atmosphere to wind down after work for nice desserts.

I have to begin by saying, what a delight Willem (owner) is. He is so friendly and inviting. The place is beautifully set in a holland feel. Lovely ambiance, light and warm. My wife Ananya B Narayan &I I wanted to try all the desserts. Too bad we were stuffed. Haha! Amazing array on the menu, so authentic and tasteful. We also tried Heidi's pancake which was a pure delight to our Taste buds! Our favorite was definitely the poffertjes with Advokaat, just dance on my tongue. Burst of flavors! This place is a must try, we are going to be going back often. 😊thank you willem!

4.75 is what we give this place, it was pretty faultless although we have always thought it was a bit over priced, until we ate here! The only reason we tried was because we got a grab one $50 for $25. But will definitely be back, food was delicious, service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was great, well done 😊 😋 🍴

If youre after something a bit different I can highly reccommend Dutch Delight! Their whole range of pancakes are fantasic either savoury or sweet, and their appetisers are hearty, filling and there is a great selection that will allow you to experience a real taste of the Netherlands. Having been to Amsterdam, I can safely say that you will not find a more authentic Dutch experience anywhere else in NZ, or maybe even the Netherlands for that matter! Considering I was under a short notice grabone booking too I was impressed with how we were treated and the quality of the service in general. A contender for the best restaurant in Highbury.

Not sure breakfast is a good idea for this place but how many teens are going to say no to a breakfast ice cream pancake? <br/>Portions are huge here. We ordered said pancake which arrived with plenty of additional sauces. Chocolate and raspberry. <br/>Ordered hot chocolate and a mocha which both came with dutch biscuits.<br/>I ordered the small share platter which was too much for me but a great selection. <br/>I would love to come back and next time will try something like the satay or the gyros pancake.<br/>Slightly on the dearer side but still good value

Me and a large group went to Dutch Delight for my best friends birthday.... What an experience!!!The owner who was also our waiter takes a lot of pride in his café. We were well accommodated by the owner and our food was an absolute delight. I am extremely impressed with the quality of the service and the food. There was a lot of food ordered and the quality was maintained throughout each dish. I personally ordered the meatballs for entrée and the farmers pancake for main.... There was no way I was able to eat dessert as I was so full. The owner went as far as to put an amazing candle on the dessert for my best friend and starting off the birthday song.Everyone was so impressed with this little café it is possibly going to be the place to go for my best friend for all of his future birthdays. 5/5 on everything.FYI you must try the Chocomel.... Absolutely divine. As you can see from the photo there were quite a lot of us.

As the name suggests this place is amazing. Food is delightful, the sweet pancakes are delish. Service is outstanding the owner personally makes sure that everything is good. Great atmosphere too.

I like the idea. I like the kids' room. I like the owners. But I just don't rate the food... Everything is so bulky and not for me. Would go there again if I needed a fantastically massive and delicious cookies and cream shake, but otherwise we just don't get along.

Venue good,clean..table not wobbly,yay...ordered eggs bacon,toast..friends had lunch pancake and spec and banana pancake..um what to say?..food was ok..nothing to write home about, food was kinda average, yes tasty..but how hard isit to do pan cakes?. Id go back to try burgers and starter plates.<br/>Service was good..but dam was it expensive.

I was curious about Dutch cuisine, so I decided to try this Cafe for brunch. There is Dutch themed decorations, and on each table is a Dutch Man & Woman Salt & Pepper shaker which are adorable.<br/>My Dutch workmate explained that a lot of the more unique Dutch food are snacks, so I chose the Sharing Platter. The little nibbles were all delicious and left me wanting more, I especially liked the Bitterballen and Kaas Soufle. <br/>For my main I ordered the Tiramisu pancake and my partner the Farmers pancake. The Tiramisu was very tasty, however the sweetness got to me in the end. It came with bottles of chocolate sauce and strawberry, which is a nice touch.<br/>The Farmer pancake is packed full of food making it very filling, my partner couldn't eat more than half and even I couldn't finish it.

Came with the family. Entering the restaurant make you feel stepping into the Dutch land. Brings back lots of memories when we visit Amsterdam and Volendam for our honeymoon. They even have a small play room for the kids. Atmosphere absolute Dutch style with pictures and sculpture of the Dutch lady....food is great, we have various pan cakes and kebab mother size. Absolutely love it. Would recommend anyone to come this place.

My lovely friend had a voucher and took me and my son here for lunch on Sunday. My goodness there's sooo much to choose from. I ordered a hot chocolate which was beautifully presented and so very indulgent and ordered a custard pancake that came with cherries. Very satisfied.

Dutch Delight is amazing. Their owner is a fantastic host; very friendly and helpful (and funny). It was actually the first time we ordered a main after several visits - which just goes to show how incredible their desserts are. Warning - don't be enticed by their 'regular' sizes because they WILL leave you absolutely stuffed! Cannot recommend this place more.
Mel Jacka
This place is so yum!! <br/>Their menu is so large it's always so hard which delicious thing to have. <br/>The fact they have delicious gluten free pancakes is the reason I will keep coming back!<br/>The hot chocolates are a must!!

We had a great experience at Dutch Delight! Willem is a great host and the service is really friendly. The food is home-style and our beer and wine well priced. We enjoyed the fries (of course -amazing peanut sauce!), and I really enjoyed my vegetarian pancake (more like a crepe) which was stuffed full with veges and cheese, while my boyfriend had a meal off their winter menu. The apple pie was delicious and huge! Will definitely be back to work our way through the dessert menu!
Xinyu Zhang
The food is delicious and the of couple is nice. Good place deserves to go~~~this is my order. I like the dessert but I forget the name. It is really nice
Ian S.
We've been going here for years and Willem & the team have always been lovely. Food quality is excellent - we love the poffertjes, chips with peanut sauce, home made apple pie and the pancakes are always good. Highly recommended for an afternoon snack or evening meal.
Yannick H
Found this little gem by walking by and do not have regrets sitting there<br/>Willem and his friendly staff served us delicious food. The peanut sauce especially was good and no need to mention the fries and the mayonnaise<br/>Will come back
Lisa Arthur
This place has delicious food! My friends and I especially love the chips with satay sauce and mayo. I had the indonesian pancake and poffertjes and they were delicious as usual. Dutch food seems to be very filling, I wouldn't recommend it if you were on a diet! The waitress was attentive and friendly, and the proprietor is also very friendly. Highly recommend.
The One With A Nut Allergy...
I've been to this Dutch restaurant twice already and have never been disappointed as there is much to try on the menu! For a carniverous Canadian like me, I am happy with the options of bacon and the 'dutch, syrup which reminds me of maple syrup! <br/><br/>There is a personal touch to the place- the owner is personable, friendly and makes an effort to ensure guests feel at home! There is a nice family tree painted on to the wall with pictures of the owner's family adding to the personal touch. There are also goodies from the Netherlands you can buy!<br/><br/>As for being a peanut and nut allergy sufferer, they were so accommodating and patient to double check about each option we ordered. We had a GrabOne so we went crazy with ordering different dishes and they ensured each one was nut-peanut free. <br/><br/>We were full between the two of us with the items we ordered:<br/>- Spek (Bacon) Pancake - which felt like a crepe which we topped with special Dutch syrup<br/>- Bitterballen<br/>- Cocktail Meatballs w. special herbs<br/>- Salmon Pancake - my favourite of the night!<br/>- Dessert: Poffertjes - yum yum these mini pancakes!<br/><br/>Peanut-Nut Friendliness: - YES! Very accommodating!<br/>Environment: 9/10<br/>Taste: 7/10

We chose to celebrate my partner's birthday at Dutch Delight with a party of 11, and we couldn't have asked for a better night. Hearty, homemade food that offered great value for money. My favourite was the salmon pancake (really tasty & great portion) and my partner ordered off their winter menu. Willem & team really went the extra mile to ensure we had an awesome dinner. Highly recommended - this type of hospitality is hard to come by these days! We'll be making this our local. Alli & Joel.

Went there for dessert and was satisfied by their apple pie that so light and flavorful. My friend order ice cream sundae thats has beautiful presentation. This place also so cozy and great ambience of the dessert. Looking forward to come back!

Great place, although price is on the higher end. Their pancakes are amazing, (love the tiramisu pancake) and portions are maaaaaasive. We ordered the Large pancake and it could've been shared between 4 people. Love the owners/staff as well, they are very welcoming and the place have amazing customer service. However, I'm not really fond of their savoury pancakes, would just prefer the sweet ones.
Michelle
First time visit , felt very welcoming and the music playing was soothing <br/>Ordered the chicken skewers was ok but abut over priced I'd prefer less peanut sauce but other than that it was great <br/>Unfortunately my child didn't enjoy the pancake and I think it's coz it was different to what we both expected but was okay .<br/>I probably would go back to try the mini pancakes but I doubt I'd go there after that.
Lenka Veza
I had the salmon pancakes here. Never had Dutch pancakes before but I'm definitely converted. The lady that served me was so sweet and polite. I was glad we stumbled across this little gem in Birkenhead.
Andrew @anjeats
FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Unashamedly Dutch with a large Windmill mural on the wall, this well positioned Birkenhead restaurant is clearly proud of its European roots. The shelves stacked with Dutch delicacies were a nice touch and the layout inviting and well presented. <br/><br/>FOOD: I was with a work group and we started with Patat Met - French fries with a delicious peanut and onion sauce. This was followed by Bitterballen - crumbed ragout balls with mustard sauce. The balls were crispy on the outside and beautifully creamy inside. <br/><br/>For my main I had a small sized Farmers Pancake, filled with a tender beef, bacon and mushroom filling. It had a warming stew like quality - perfect for a winter's day. It did veer on the salty side but it was very moorish. <br/><br/>To end our meal we were surprised with poffertjes served with icing sugar and butter. Totally decadent in all its dumpling like glory. <br/><br/>SERVICE: Attentive and very funny! There's something assuring about the dry wit of the Dutch. <br/><br/>Yes the food is very rich and filling, so start small and order more if need be. I'm keen to come back and try the sweet pancakes and apple cake as I hear it's amazing!

Recommended place to enjoy Dutch food and environment! Great place for hang around with friends and also for night date. I love the relaxing ambiance of this cafe.<br/><br/>My favourite here of course is the poffertjes, with palm sugar sauce. They are so delicious, especially when they are fresh from the kitchen. The cakes here are yummy as well in general. However, I found the baklava sold here has interesting taste - not as sweet as I expected (which is good for some people who do not like sweet stuff but want to try some). I haven't tried any savoury meals from here but looking from the other table's order, they are quite tempting. I should try the chips and savoury pancakes on my next visit.<br/><br/>The service here is so great! The staffs are friendly, especially the Dutch uncle and auntie, they made the environment as if we were in their house in Dutch. The waitresses are nice as well, just make sure you repeat your order correctly. The price is reasonable to spend. Another issue is the size of the cafe - not that big and sometimes it was quite full with people (Friday/Sat night).  <br/><br/>Overall, I am quite satisfied with this cafe. Always look forward to come here again.
Lyric
It's great! Being me though I'm not too keen on having anything but sweet yummy things on my pancakes so I wasn't very adventurous & just got the ice cream dessert pancake. But my partner did however get one of the seafood pancakes and said it was great! We're definitely looking forward to going back!
Stango
The wide range of options made it hard for me to narrow down what I wanted - which is a good thing! Never had savoury Dutch food before so I wasn't sure what to expect at first. I went with the satay meatballs entree and savoury spek (bacon) and mushroom pancake. My partner chose the croket and natural pancake (icing sugar and lemon wedge). Both were great. Generous serving sizes except for the croquette which was small compared to my entree of the same price. The waitress kindly provided sauce and syrups of many types to our table including sweet chilli, mayo, strawberry and chocolate for our pancakes. Important highlight: for anyone who likes spekuloos (Dutch spiced biscuits) you MUST try their cookies and cream milkshake...and go large. It contains none of that Oreo business and tastes delicious! <br/>Revisited and had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Willem. Such a sweet guy and is always so lovely to my partner's Oma when she visits. I really admire the friendly, family-orientated nature of this place. Great customer service.

Since the last time I was here, the place has been renovated and looks very cute and cosy. Upon arrival we found a table with my name on a mini chalk board which I found was a really sweet personal touch. They might be a bit understaffed as the food takes a bit longer than usual but the staff are very friendly. We started off with chocolate milk and Dutch snacks which I would highly recommend. The pancakes weren't really our cup of tea, though it might have been the flavours we chose - pork gyros and baklava. The profiteroles looked amazing, would be keen to try that next time.
Michelle
The best profiteroles ever! I love the custard pancake too! The service is great. Definitely will come back and try the other menu! Worth trying!

Went today as fika with me next door was packed and unfortunately we should have waited for fika. I ordered the pork gyro savoury pancake and got the Hungarian I just shut my mouth because it took a half hour to get and to be honest it was well below par and not worth waiting for another <br/><br/> . They served it on a plate so hot I burnt myself and it cooked my side salad right through, disgusting!. I ordered an orange juice and it was cordial my partner on the other hand got a cappuccino and loved it so will give them that but overall we were very disappointed with the food and the worst part is it cost us $64 ! Fika next door where we are regular usually cost us $40 and we have a awesome organic meal and coffee and leave happy. Sorry to say we felt ripped off and will not be back or recommending sorry.

Such a nice low key place in birkenhead. Perfect for breakfast and brunch. I had their one of their Savoury pancakes which was very filling and tasty. The serving sizes are quite generous for the price. Staff was very friendly! Overall was a good experience and would be coming back for sure!

It's old and tired <br/>Needs a decent dust and clean <br/>Like going back to 1970 <br/>All sorts of silly trinkets <br/>Food is ok <br/>But that's it ok at best
Christine
Loved the choices on the menu here. Ended up choosing Apple crepes and was not disappointed! They were super delicious and size was huge. I would totally recommend a visit to this charming cafe with such friendly staff.

We were here for lunch although the service was ok the food is no where close what it was before.. not much flavor in my and dry beef!!! salad tasted bitter and got our orders wrong. not going to be returning here again.
Dulcie Raphielle Tan
Wonderfully adorable place with good decoration. Staff are friendly and even taught my friends and I how to pronounce some dutch words. Desserts are delicious, especially their Appletart which is a must try. Well-worth the drive to Birkenhead.
Rebben
My partner & I really enjoyed our meals here last night. We shared a starter of chicken satay and then we spied the table next to us eating chips & mayo - our food envy strong, but I'm glad we restrained ourselves because our main meal of pancakes were really filling and tasty. I had the salmon pancake, but it was my partners pancake that was really delicious - I don't remember the name of it but it had a mixture of pork and apple. We shared a desert of proffertjes... Possibly the best part of the meal...still don't know how to pronounce this word even though the owner was kind enough to say it for me 3 times and then mentioned everyone has the same problem :) Great, friendly service and an enjoyable meal. Thanks
Hannah Gear
Make sure you book because this place gets very busy! The staff and wonderfully helpful and the food is yum and they have desserts to die for.<br/><br/>Will go again!

Such a shame. My dutch partner and I went there on the 15th to try the Dutch food.<br/><br/>The decor was dated, the service was questionable and the food was not resturant quality.<br/><br/>Everything started off okay. We were seated quickly and asked if we wanted something to drink right away(chocomel, yum). But it was all done hill from there. Our starter of fries come out pretty quickly but our mains, the Indonesian pancake(with a salad that was just rocket with a trace of a carrot slither), took an hour after ordering. There were no apologies about it either. And the whole time, none of the staff asked if we needed anything else. By the end of the main I was dying for water because of the amount of sugar they put in the peanut sauce but it was so hard to get the waiters attention.<br/><br/>The dessert came out pretty quickly though and we paid and left soon after that.<br/><br/>At the end of the night I would have preferred to give dutch food a go at home.
Miss Terry Foodie
Loved our experience here. We decided to sponataneously try this restaurant one night and were greeted warmly by the waitress and showed us to our seat, there was quite a number of people too. Asked us if it was our first time and helped us picked out the popular ones and what she thought we would like. She also made sure that we're enjoying our meal throughout, so, I can't really complain at all. I would say that I will bring my friends here to try some time.
Audric Kam
We were quite satisfied with what we ordered and the range we could select from.<br/><br/>However, there were a number of flies around and our food took substantially long to be served.<br/><br/>The food, however, I believe was efficient enough to offset most of the mentioned minuses.
Kelvin Hilton
The crepes are the ultimate desert. We love to drive there just for dessert. <br/>The Cherry crepes are simply the most amazing treat I could wish for.<br/>oh yes the Music they play is so relaxing and exceptionally good sounding.<br/>Coffee is great too .

Absolutely splendid! My partner and I came in about 20 minutes to 10pm, almost closing time on a weeknight, expecting to be told either that they were closed or that we could have takeaway only. Not so. We were greeted incredibly cheerfully by the owner himself, who insisted we sit down and dine in. I had a small cherry pancake which was by no means small (definitely enough for a meal unless you're very hungry) and it was absolutely delicious. My partner had a medium Hungarian (i think) pancake as recommended by the owner. That too was massive and apparently delicious. They seemed in no hurry whatsoever for us to leave, despite being the only ones there, and the food was fantastic. <br/>Prices were a little higher than we expected, until we saw the size of our meal, and realised it was justified, don't be put off.

I might be a little out of my depth reviewing this place, as this is the first time I’ve ever tried Dutch cuisine! After having an online acquaintance from the Netherlands confirm that their menu did, indeed, look authentic, we made the drive across the bridge to give it a shot.<br/><br/>Unfortunately, the first thing that struck me when we arrived was that the place was dark – so dark that, on a bright sunny afternoon, I had to use the ‘night’ mode on my phone camera to take pictures inside. I confess to preferring stereotypical cheery, well-lit cafes. However, after getting used to the lighting, the decor finally caught my eye. And it was fairly impressive, with little windmill and ship decorations scattered all around, quaint table mats, and even tiny sculptures as salt and pepper shakers. Cute.<br/><br/>We ordered two pancakes, one ‘traditional’ and the other savoury, and poffertjes for dessert. My traditional ‘spek’ pancake (small – $14.90) came with bacon and seared apple on the top and drizzled with icing sugar. The pancake itself was thin and delicate, almost reminiscent of crepes, and the apple was caramelized and seared perfectly – there was a nice crunch to it still, instead of being mushy. The bf’s ‘lunch pancake’ (medium – $24.90) with chicken breast, ham, bacon, onion, and mushroom tasted fairly standard to me. Poffertjes (small – $12.50) were apparently little balls of sweet, spongy batter, served with icing sugar, butter, whipped cream and ice cream. They were pretty darn good, and probably the most standout dish in my view.<br/><br/>Our verdict – nice concept, and apparently authentic Dutch food (the Dutch acquaintance was also approving of the photos). The prices were relatively steep, though, and while the pancakes looked large, they were thin enough that I could probably have finished a medium-sized one easily if we hadn’t ordered the poffertjes (and I’m a petite Asian girl!). The food was pretty good, though, and it’s worth at least one try if you haven’t had the chance to sample Dutch food yet.

Dutch Delight is a really great family-run establishment that is sure to fix your sweet tooth and pancake cravings! Although some may think that the pancakes are thick and served flat, think of them more as thicker crepes filled with deliciousness! My personal favourites are the: Tiramisu pancake, season pancake,  Heidi's pancake (all of which are dessert pancakes), and the Original Dutch Poffertjes. <br/><br/>These pancakes are generous in filling and rich in taste, usually a medium or small pancake will satisfy a sweet tooth but the large pancakes are great to share! The pancakes are definitely nothing like I've had before and since the menu is so extensive, I'm always wanting to try new meals. <br/><br/>Dutch Delight has become a favourite and we are constantly returning for the great food and incredible service. Thanks so much to the beautiful family who are clearly so passionate about their food and business, it really shows every time we walk into your restaurant! I'll be back soon!

Had a family lunch 7.6.2014<br/>Outstanding food-pancakes, krokets, kaas soufles<br/>Thank you! :)
Sue Oakden
It is possible the pancakes are good, but we decided on a cheese platter and a selection of fried' things',also some fries. The cheese platter was the worse I've ever had, the grapes with it were brown and rotting, a few sad crackers of poor quality accompanied it . The fried platter of things was inedible, over cooked (as were the fries). One fried ball thing was chiseled open to revel a grey interior, just could not contemplate eating this. Very expensive, would never go back.
Kathryn Lee
Been here several times, and all of the times I have thoroughly enjoyed myself, the wait staff/cook is a cheery fellow, and one of the times, he decided that there was not enough meat on my meat lovers pancake, so he brought me a side of meat, I thought that was awesome. The decor is quirky and a bit cluttered, but adds oodles of character so works for me. Thoroughly enjoyed all my pancakes, however, the large is huge, so be prepared to take home a doggy bag. It's still good on the second day.

If you are in need of a pancake fix then Dutch Delight is the place. I've had good pancakes before but these are on a completely different level. The pancakes are thin almost crepe like with amazing flavor you could eat it plain but you wouldn't with all the choices of sweet or savory on offer. <br/><br/>This trip was all about the sweet so my partner ordered the Spek with bacon &amp; I had the Natural with bananas. You have the option of small, medium, large. I had the medium &amp; my partner had the large. <br/><br/>The large is no joke, when the waitress walked out with the plate it was not a plate it was a platter!! There was a mountain of crispy delicious bacon &amp; the best grilled bananas I've ever tasted. My partner loves to eat so the 'large' portion wasn't a problem for him but it is plenty for 2 even 3 to share. The medium was still quite large but I had no problem getting through it all. A squeeze of lemon &amp; homemade syrup tops it all off for an amazing pancake experience! <br/><br/>It is a quaint place with great food &amp; good service. We were greeted with smiles &amp; the owner was delightful walking around chatting with customers. We will definitely be back for more.
Wendy
We've been to Dutch Delight many times and would recommend this restaurant to all! The food is freshly home made and authentic Dutch cuisine. Portion sizes are huge but delicious! The staff is very friendly and willing to assist where needed! Especially the owner (s)! Willem the owner and his wife Heidi always go out of their way to make us feel welcome every time! There is always time for a friendly chat and a laugh! The atmosphere is very friendly and inviting and the kids corner is fantastic! Because the dimmed lighting makes the place "cosy" it has a very dutch feel...love it! The other great thing is that beside the restaurant there is a lovely dutch shop with a wide range of Dutch products..my children (and myself) love browsing in there!. Again...would recommend to all! Although we have to travel just over an hour to get there...it's well worth it! We'll definitely be back!!!!
James
The savoury crepe was excellent, so was the customer service. However, the price is a bit expensive

Great food and divine desserts, although a little bit steep for what it's worth. Decor and atmosphere is not top notch, lighting could be a bit brighter - I had been here at lunchtime and it was too dark to read a book!<br/>Everything aside though, what really took off the stars for this place's rating is their service. Don't get me wrong, the ladies working here are lovely - very attentive and prompt service, extremely accommodating. I was especially impressed with the service by the lady with short blonde hair. Thanks so much, keep it up :)<br/>What really lets this place down is the older Dutch man working here, presumably the owner - his customer service is shocking at best. Based on his attitude towards his customers, I'm not even sure whether he actually wants this place open or not, it's really appalling. Of the 7-8 times that I'd been here, whenever the Dutch man was on deck, I left the place feeling rather unpleasant and offended because of his grumpy, rude and narky 'service'. On the other hand, whenever he's not around, i.e. when it's just the ladies running the place, this is a lovely place to dine and hang around.<br/>I recommend going to this place ONLY when the Dutch man is not working, as it is highly likely that he will make you wish you'd never been here, which is otherwise a lovely place.

Your pancakes are to die for! Keep it up :-)

We went to this restaurant for dinner on a Sunday night. The service was attentive and prompt. The food on the whole was great. I was impressed with the quantities! However it was not explained that the Shoarma pancake was spicy hot and my husband was unable to eat it all. When we mentioned this the owner said the menu listed one of the ingredients as Sambal - which it did not. However we will return, if just for the dessert!

This review has been long overdue, My partner and I have been here on several occasions and loved it each time. My partner rarely changes his order, whereas I like to start with simple dishes and spontaneously branch out. I've had their Beef burger on one occasion which was huge and a side of fries with peanut sauce and mayonnaise, unfortunately I was unable to finish this meal and ended up taking away. The fries and sauces were so moreish that we ended up returning primarily for them. On other occasions I've had the speck pancake (which is ok) and the winter special (Dutch Sausage + Sauerkraut, mash potatoes and gravy)which is absolutely divine, and can't wait for winter so I can get it again. On our last visit my partner and I were able to judge how much was too much and ordered a side of fries to share and a Baklava Pancake.OMG!!!! That was the best decision we'd made that night and has become our new cravable food. If your wondering what my partner ordered on all these occasions except our last, well it was an "Indonesian pancake" which he absolutely loves and was very hard for him to change. We love this place, and only on one occasion have we felt ignored by the waiting staff. But that hasn't changed how we feel about the place. We'll definitely return.
Kathryn Louise
What a deplorable place! Absolutely gobsmacked at the prices being charged for pretty basic food. The portions were not at all generous, I cannot understand how people can say they are. But the worst thing was the coffee. Just absolutely awful. The interior is depressing. Avoid like the plague, what an insult to the usually delightful Dutch culture.
Jin Gao
Went there with a friend last weekend. I ordered the salmon pancake and although it tasted good (although you can never go wrong with salmon and cream cheese) but the portion was relatively small for its price. The decor and environment was not too great either
Barbara Goldie
This is our favorite brunch spot, we have dined here about a dozen times in the past 6 months or so. We always order the same thing, not very adventurous in our menu choices LOL We get a large Spec (plenty for the two of us to share), which is a huge pancake covered dusted in powdered sugar, and then covered a mound of streaky bacon and your choice of banana, apple or pineapple, (we prefer banana). Admittedly we don't usually go at breakfast "rush hour" but we've always received friendly service, had our food delivered in a timely fashion, and been happy with our meal and the value. When we wake up after having a nice late sleep in on Saturday morning, you'll find us at Dutch Delight :)

We regularly dine at Dutch Delight and love it. Meals are traditional, Food is great, always leave more than satisfied. As for the host- he is so friendly. Have never had slow service. We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for traditional Dutch food.

Had a great night at Dutch Delight with my family including our son - great idea having a kids room so he met other kids and was entertained while waiting for dinner. Great friendly service, awesome food and even had live music!! Meals are large, so glad I ordered the medium pancake to share with my son. Highly recommend the cherry dessert pancake. Will definitely go back again.

If you are thinking of taking the kids don't bother. We waited 1.5 hours for a entree and the timing was completely terrible to be honest. The main was a burger which claimed to be big and tasty on the menu which was also disappointing and bland. You could do much better than this place for the price. The kids room was good but poorly organized or looked upon by the staff to see if a movie was playing or not. I recommend they stick to what they know and do Dutch food. I would not recommend this as a place to dine with children or you want to get in and out in a hurry. <br/>Ps. We are not fussy people either and we don't normally even bother doing this, but we thought people should know.

Lovely place with great food, we had a great time.<br/>Regarding the so called grumpy dutch man, he was entertaining and really nice, and we had a voucher as well (our voucher was even one day over expire date). Even though it was busy he took the time to explain the menu, because it was all new to us. We will take kids there next time, great kids area. Just love the desserts, we will definitely recommend to others. Thanks and see you hopefully soon.

Appalling customer service. Disgusted. I was really looking forward to showing my friends some of my Dutch culture and food that I love.<br/>However, we did not even make it to the restaurant, as upon booking I mentioned that we had several vouchers, due to a large group of us going. The grumpy Dutch man insisted that we could only use one per table, even though it CLEARLY states, ONE PER PERSON, on the voucher. I tried to explain this to him and he became very, very, rude to me. He clearly has no idea about customer service. Knowing that we would not be able to use all our vouchers, and not wanting to be in such a negative environment we did not bother going. Neither will my Dutch family who were also looking forward to trying this place.<br/>I am absolutely horrified that this is what is representing Dutch people in New Zealand. I am embarrassed by this, definitely not Dutch Delight.

Same incident as the persons comment below. Selling vouchers without putting in all the fine print is misleading and waste of time for people who have busy lives and was looking forward to catching up with a group of friends over dinner. <br/><br/>Very unhappy about this. Perhaps next time they should think about putting in ALL the conditions in the fine print!!

After buying some vouchers for this restaurant we made a booking for 8 people over Easter to dine there. The conditions on the voucher were "1 voucher per person" and "one bill per table". We told the Dutch owner on arrival that we had the vouchers and he insisted we could only use 1 voucher per table. We had the impression we weren't the first people to expect to be able to use more than one voucher on our table. We could see he wasn't going to budge so walked out in the end as he was so rude and unaccommodating and we had no desire to stay anyway in such an unpleasant atmosphere. We went to the Greenhithe Restaurant when it was still open and the food was ok (although not top class) and decided to try the Birkenhead one, but we're not surprised that the Greenhithe one closed if that's how he treated his customers. The restaurant was dingey and poky and nothing like the pleasant atmosphere of the Greenhithe restaurant. We won't be returning!

I first had dinner here when I was invited to a customers staff function. I loved it and have been back many times! To my delight they accept Barter Card, so now we go there even more often!<br/><br/>I have taken business collegues from Australia here and they also really enjoyed the experience, can say a bad thing like someone did re the older Dutch man, he was more than heplful and happy to see us when ever we dine in!

Love the pancakes, they taste great!!! My husband wasn't keen on going there when I suggested it, but he was pleasantly surprised and ate the leftover the next day.<br/>Very nice service...i guess I saw the Dutch man the previous person mentioned at the end, I know what they mean, he looked dead serious... but nevertheless, as long as I deal with any other person in that place, I am happy, and will go back soon :0)

What a great place! Sure, it is naff, filled with tacky Dutch souvenirs and pictures of tulips. But the food is great, the staff super-friendly, and the coffee divine (it even comes with one of those delicious cinnamon biscuits). The portions are colossal, and the menu extensive - everything from goulash to cherry pancakes. It's also open all hours - from around 9am to 10pm most days. Highly recommended, and with a good flow of customers, obviously somewhere with a few regulars. Not at all sophisticated or pretentious, and all the better for it.

Very nice food, Apple pie to die for. Service good from the staff, however the oldish dutch man (maybe owner) his customer service is well below standard what one would expect. On our first visit he asked me if I was Dutch when I replied no he didn't really provide the same level of service he provided to those from his home country speaking dutch to him across the way. He ignored us when we asked for another drink and continued to speak in Dutch to his other customers. have been back since and service from staff was great.

Not our cup of tea. Ate there once and found food not to our taste. Have not been back.

I have been a regular customer of Wim's delightful Dutch Delight since it first opened, and have introduced many friends and visitors to this lovely homely Euro-centric eatery. The new extension makes Dutch Delight even more customer friendly and the childrens' "own" room is a winner.<br/><br/>I am planning a visit to the new addition to the Dutch Delight family in Greenhithe as soon as I can obtain travel documents to cross the new Hobsonville bridge!<br/><br/>Gefilisiteerd, Willem! <br/>Jan C

We first visited Dutch Delight just after it opened, and have been back on a regular basis since then. Service is peronal, warm, friendly and the food very tasty, different and great value. The apple pie is something else! Highly recommended.

Dutch cuisine? It's (to my knowledge) the only place in Auckland that serves it up, but that's not the reason why you'd go out of your way (location: Birkenhead) to grab a bite - it's because Dutch Delight transports you to Holland and back in a single night!<br/><br/>What caught the eye:<br/>The extensive range of pancakes they offered on their menu! It's seemingly endless. While Dutch Delight is categorized under "Sweet Tooth" in Zomato, their very big portion sizes also for savoury pancakes makes this place most suitable for a dinner location too. <br/><br/>The food:<br/>My personal favourite would be the savoury "Salmon Pancake" with cream cheese and spinach (or some sort of greens like Rocket) rolled up and served up on a HOT (I say again, HOT) plate, just come out of the oven. A bit of freshly ground pepper over the top and paired up with a nice cold glass of cider or beer, make the pancake such a delight to chew down. I had the "small" size but it is enough for a girl with a big appetite like me. My hungry boyfriend couldn't even finish his MEDIUM sized "Farmer's Pancake" (to be fair, it had a very hearty filling inside with bacon, minced beef amongst other nutritious yumness). <br/><br/>I tried:<br/>* Salmon Pancake (small size)<br/>* Patatje Oorlog, a conglomeration of peanut saté sauce, mayo and onions (who can miss that at a Dutch restaurant?!) <br/><br/>- will be going back for a dessert pancake, which I imagine will be absolutely phenomenal!<br/><br/>Budget:<br/>$$$<br/><br/>Recommended for:<br/>Food Adventurers, Foreign Cuisine Lovers, Nostalgia Stricken Travellers, Weekly Dinner Dates, Dessert Fanatics, Kids' Treat Nights<br/><br/>I'll be going back for some authentic Filet Americain one day soon - legitimately off the Dutch table!

For a one of a kind of dining experience, look no further than Dutch Delight, a unique and authentic Dutch restaurant. My personal favourites include the goulash beef krokets, the patat oorlog and of course, the real Dutch appeltaart. I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered from Dutch Delight, everything is completely delicious and true to the Dutch/Indonesian cuisine you see in The Netherlands.
