Review Big J's Takeaways - Auckland Central

Rafael del Rosario
One of my go to takeaway burger place whenever I crave for a good burger. Steak Burger is amazing!
Laella Jayde
Honestly, your website is super easy to order on and I love that it tracks when your food is ready, I LOVED the super steak burger I got tonight and my mum was a huge fan of your skewers! Delicious, local and well worth trying. Sincerely, a (previously local) patron who has been coming here since 2019!
Yatian Zhang
Ordered a delivery, and absolutely delicious, reasonable price as well. Highly recommend their loaded fries

Been 3 times in one week after trying this place for the first time: truly worth the hype. The burgers are huge and so saucy and flavourful and they have a different burger of the week every week so always new things to try. Our new go-to takeaway place. I personally recommend the Super Steak burger which, as a person with a big appetite, genuinely fills me up. They also have $4 scoops of chips which is super affordable and a perfect amount for 2 people:

ORDERED: 2x Super Steak Burgers šŸ” 1x Order for two 1x Hotdog on a stick 1x 6 Nuggets 2x Lots of Hot chips šŸŸ 4x Drinks PRICING: $77.00 TASTE: Great taste and I should have ordered an eeg with my burger would have been delicious. The food was great and the takeaways was busy showing that people like their food. Will definitely come again.

My husband and I were visiting from the States and saw this place pop up when searching for food. I was craving a burger and was so happy we could stop here. It felt like a nice local spot that specializes in customer service and specialty burgers. If youā€™re traveling here, please have NZD with you. They cannot take American credit cards on their system. I got the Barbie Q and my husband had a burger from the specials menu. Would def recommend this establishment.

Drove to here all the way from out West Auckland as have heard good things about this place! And we were most definitely not dissapointed. In my opinion the food here is well worth the money, generous portions and super tasty burgers. I had the Crispy Chicken burger and it was very delicious. There is a fair amount of parking around a few seats both inside the shop and outside if you want to eat there instead of taking your food home. Think at some point will be back here again as I am keen to try some of the other burgers and weekly specials they have here!
Andrew Sim
Had "The Shrimp" burger with steak, bacon, shrimp ball and chilli aoili. One of the best burgers of the week in awhile. Definitely recommend the burgers of the week as they never dissappoint!
Phillip Conolly
What more can a man want when it comes to a burger a Big juicy, soucy burger that dances in your mouth with flavour, a mouth watering experience. I'll definitely be back.
Benedict Uy
I made an online order from their website and brought the burgers back home. They have a decent selection of burgers within the range. They also have a special of the week which is on their facebook page. The place is hidden near Sylvia park. It is a bit out of the way. Pick up was fairly easy at the entrance. The burgers are pricier than others but also larger and tastier. I tried their special of the week, Its gravy baby, a steak burger with wedges and bacon. I enjoyed it but not as much as the hotdog. The Big js hotdog had everything in it and was really tasty. The bacon and onions made it really nice. Their kumara wedges were also decent but it doesn't come with any sauces. We also got some spring rolls and mac and cheese bites. The mac and cheese bites were nice. The spring roll was ok. Nice cheap dinner.

The prices are so reasonable and the food was so yummy! This was months ago though just a late review lol

Barbie Q burger was yummmm!!! Will definitely be back. <br/><br/>Didnt enjoy the kumara fries... but my partner loved them!!

Went on a Friday night around 8 and called in to order before which was a good idea. Wait time was around 20-25 minutes. <br/><br/>Between 4 of us we ordered 2x Cajun Chicken burgers, 2x Classic Chicken (both spicy) and one of the burgers was made a combo (fries and drink for $6). <br/><br/>The burgers were a really good size and had lots of filling in it. The chicken was a proper piece of meat so made the burger filling. Overall really good ingredients that made it really worth the price ($13 - how good). The fries were thick cut fries which were good but just needed more salt, I like how you can customise to get different seasonings. The portion size for upgrading to combo is really worth the additional $6 as we managed to share the fries. <br/><br/>Would highly recommend Big Js

I normally come for takeaways and the quality always very good. Quick service and mostly accurate for timing. Will come again.
Darren Big Belly
The burgers are gooooood. I always barely have time to take a photo before I scoff it down. Sauce is on point. Although the portion seemed to have gone a bit smaller, the flavour is still there.<br/>Make sure you get a tub of their gravy if you get chips. Pour it over your chips or dip it, for an even better experience. <br/>I used the left over gravy to make a pepper mushroom sauce for my steaks the next day. It was good.<br/>Service is always top notch.

You just cannot go wrong with a Classic Cheeseburger from Big J's. There's a reason why they're always on the best burger list of Auckland and that's because they are consistent. Burgers are super tasty and fresh. Have had the special a couple of times and they're always a treat.

Photos donā€™t do justice! The food was great! Amazing burgers! Had the supreme steak it was so juicy and tender. The vegetarian Corny burger was so good too perfect crispy and great taste! Would definitely come back! Recommend to try for sure!
Amy
Had the Barbie Q burger. I didn't like the pattie as I thought they were too soft and kind of tasted like those meatless rebel patties and doesn't have much meat taste to it. The barbecue sauce was a bit too sweet. Ordered chips with lemon pepper but its a bit too oily.
Doris Ma
Best burger!! Real good prices too. I got the mushroom burger, sweet potato wedges with garlic salt, and onion rings. The beef patty was juicy, well seasoned, tender. Sweet potato wedges were velvety, and because they were so chunky they weren't oily or limp at all, the garlic salt gives it that extra burst of flavour. Onion rings were huge, super thick piece of onion, unlike your usual. The Batter was the flour type rather than the crumbed type as well.

When I saw the 4.9 rating on Zomato I knew I was getting something amazing for lunch! <br/>Thereā€™s no way hundreds of people would be wrong about this place. <br/>Iā€™d heard the place gets very crowded during its peak hours so we placed an order at around 11 am. <br/>The food was ready at 11:30 and oh my! <br/>Ordered the mushroom magic and quite frankly, it is the best burger Iā€™ve had in my life. <br/>Juicy beef patty and mushrooms and cost only $9.50! <br/>Steal deal! <br/>10/10 would recommend. <br/>
Ruth
I had the mushroom magic (Prime patty, medley of mushrooms & sautƩed onions) and was very disappointed. Ordered online and it said ready in 20min; the actual time was 34 mins. I was hoping it was worth the wait but it was a big let down. the beef patty was very dried (now I know what dried beef patty taste like). there was probably 1.5 teaspoon cooked mushroom & sauteed onion. lettuce was fresh. bun was soft. Undecided if I will try it again.
Francois Stols
Great little local burger joint serving some of the best burgers in town. Some great weekly specials.
Tony Ma
Outstanding. The burgers were still perfect and delicious after delivery. I was so surprised at the quality texture taste and smell. Thoroughly impressed. I donā€™t know how to eat any other burgers now. <br/><br/>Food Quality: 5/5<br/>Food Quantity: 5/5<br/>Presentation: 4.5/5<br/>Price per person: $20-$30

No wonder rating so high. The burger is goodļ¼ļ¼ļ¼ordered Uber eats, still hot when delivery to my place. Tasty good, meat delicious and juicy. Suits for my Saturday chill night~

Ordered a classic cheese, cajun queen, some chips, gravy and a hotdogāœŒļø<br/><br/>Cheese Burger was average. The patty was well seasoned and flavoured with herbs/spices. It came together well considering we took it home which added 20 minutes to it's sauna in the paper bag. Issue I had with it was the softness of the patty. It was ā€™beefedā€™ up with an excess of breadcrumbs which made it more soft meatball than beef patty. 3/5 burger. <br/><br/>However, the cajun queen was awesome. We opted for no banana in it (will try it with next time). The whole burger came together in a juicy, tender, spicy, flavourful explosion šŸ’„ I'll put it on the same level as Fergburgers cajun chicken! (Have to try that again though). This burger gets 4/5.<br/><br/>Everything else was standard takeaway fare except for the gravy. That just added the extra oomph to our meal. <br/><br/>Overall it was a good experience. If we didn't have to drive all the way home before eating it may have been a better experience for us but this time round I give it a 3.5/5. Sorry soft bread patty, we just don't get along šŸ™…ā€ā™‚ļø

I am really disappointed that 23 years of my life went by and I did not know about this place. I ordered the steak burger with bacon and cheddar cheese and let me tell you it was f*cking delicious. I was sick with a sore throat but this burger healed the sickness away šŸ˜‚ The sweet potato wedges with garlic salt was to die for. We drove all the way from city and it was worth it. It is a take away shop so donā€™t expect too much seating area , when we went it was super busy so no place to sit. So we ordered a take away and the wait was about 20 minutes. The service from the front desk guy was really good, very chatty and friendly , made the experience even better. He even came out of the takeaway to drop the burger to us across the road which was sweet. Anyway full stop, that burger was orgasmic and super affordable as well. A definite gem and I will definitely keep coming back.

Been here twice. Best kumara chips ever! It was crisp and tasty. I also ordered a barbie q burger and its portion was big and delicious as well.
Ricky Bhat
This is a hidden Gem! Been going from my uni days since one of my mates told me about it and the chips and the burgers are amazing, highly recommended if you feel like chips and burgers etc
Oriental Doll
More like a 4.5 rating, only because customer service from the front of desk is a bit disappointing. The burgers are good- steak n' egg and barbieQ are delicious. The kokoda (raw fish with coconut cream) is a bit underwhelming. To be honest, not that much worthy of a drive from Botany but it was a decent dinner for me.
Tasteful Seconds By Kyrsta Lynn
After hearing so much about Big J's we decided we would try it out for ourselves. We grabbed a steak & egg sandwhich as well as a Magic Mushroom burger. The steak & egg sandwhich was perfectly done and tasty but my mushroom burger was just not up to par. I was not a fan of the beef and our food was also a bit cold as we were told to come pick it up at a certain time but it had been sitting out for quite some time when we got there. The steak and egg was incredible. The flavour was all there and it was extra tasty! I think next time we will try some of the specials as those will probably be a hit! Curious to come back, will be back earlier to pick up our food & can't wait to try again.

I was working out Mt Wellington and a friend of mine recommended this place to me, Iā€™m so glad he did cause the food is primo as! Ordered the Cajun Chicken burger combo and it did not disappoint. Chicken was very tender and flavoursome and everything in that burger just went very well together, chips were crispy and soft and very delicious with the aioli sauce with chicken salt seasoning. Service was great, team working in the kitchen looked very professional and it shows in there food. Definitely a hidden gem in Mt Wellington and Iā€™ll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu lol. <br/><br/>Food 5/5<br/>Service 5/5<br/>Price 3.5/5
Nita Cruz
Good quality food, however in my burger patty was a bit soggy and undercooked for my liking, was falling a part really easily. Onion rings were on point! And chips were really nice.<br/><br/>My friend really enjoyed the burgers from here, so taste can differ from person to person. Not putting down this place at all, it just doesn't suit my taste preferences in a burger or specifically in a patty :)

A hidden gem in Mt. Welly. Amazing burgers and chips. Good prices & accomodating staff as well. Can get a little bit busy. But you can phone ahead and pick it up. Definitely coming back again & again!
Alexandros Andronikos
Best takeaway burgers in Auckland. Great flavours and portions. Definitely take advantage of the combo upgrade with the chips and drink. If you have space left then dive in their deserts. The young lady at the checkout has great customer service skills and is always smiling. Only downside is the state of the rubbish bin outside the shop. Always full to the top with bags, boxes and cans on the pavement.
Hungry Teddy (20% Zomato Gold, Use : HUNG2716)
Burgers, fish and chips takeaway. Price very cheap ! Fish and chips tasted great, but a bit too salty for our taste. Burger was pretty good.
Marggie Pascua
Love this place. They make amazing burgers. Fast and very good service. Burgers are well made all the time. Itā€™s quite hidden if you donā€™t know about it but itā€™s great once you know where it is
Lovepreet Shergill
I dont visit this place often but great food and service everytime I come in. Love the special burgers the team prepare every week. Make sure you follow them on Facebook so you dont miss out!
Joseph Mclean
This place is amazing. They have weekly specials that are unique and delicious. Best burgers in Auckland hands down. Been going to big J's for a couple years now
Cynye Chan
Best burger in Auckland! Loving the BJā€™s spicy bacon and chicken burgeršŸ˜ donā€™t forget to add not the fries too! Their price is more than reasonable, definitely worth a try!
Daine Kingma
An awesome little place! Feels like old school Nz fish and chips. Had one of their weekly specials which was unexpected and good. But the real star are the chips, perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend
Wilson Shum
Got a special burger from here the other day with chips and gravy. The patty on the burger was delicious, plenty of cheese on top. Generous portion and good price. The chips were just as good, well seasoned and pairs well with their homemade gravy. Will definitely come here again.<br/><br/>
Jhye21
If you find somethinf big, cheap and yummy<br/>This place is the right one! Although we waited quite a long to get two burger and chips. I guess because it is so popular place. Location can be downside. but overall great!
Eli
First time trying your guys food & honestly impressed, delicious burger for an affordable price, chips crunchy, soft and nicely cooked, gravy nice too, Burgers HONESTLY SOOOO GREAT!!. Even went back for seconds within the same night šŸ¤šŸ˜. Thank you for a great experience šŸ˜Š, will deffinately be back šŸ˜Š
Anna
Best burgers I've honestly ever had. Fresh, tasty, good value. They do amazing weekly specials including some brilliant gourmet burgers. It shows that they have a qualified chef and always exciting to see whats on offer. Check out their desserts and fried offerings too...their Fried Snapper is brilliant šŸ˜
Anastasia
My partner and I love the chicken & bacon burger(plain one and the spicy one is just overkill) and the super steak burger. They are the best burger both of us ever had in Auckland! It is our go to every week when we are both too tired to cook. Their chips are lovely too. I would recommend getting the normal chips. We had the lemon pepper and it didn't taste like anything, or maybe that's the way it is. I have also tried the cheese burger, I personally wouldn't go for it again.Ā <br/><br/>10/10 would go for Big J's. Food is great, ordered on the phone and pick up in 15mins, price is affordable. Everything to love.<br/><br/>I would recommend: Chicken & Bacon Burger(plain), Special burger, Super Steak burger, Sausage, normal salted chips and nuggets.
Hungry BearšŸ»
It's pretty amazing how you can get a cheeseburger for $6.5 that actually tastes good!<br/>The battered onion rings were too oily but the burger is definitely recommended.<br/><br/>

What a find!! Amazing place for burgers in Newzealand.. i can say no place in Newzealand can beat Big Js burgers.. bloody good.. definitely recommended.. will go again and again forever
Munchies
Such a famous lil takeaway. I have been visiting this outlet since it first opened. I havenā€™t been here for a bit but returning to find that the food is still so good and worth every dollar spent. Burgers are awesome, so delicious and prices are great too. <br/>This is a must try outlet. Staff are always friendly and outlet is always clean and tidy. <br/>Probably a good idea to phone order at lunch or dinner time this outlet has some crazy wait times.
T.parbhu
They have a vegetarian burger thatā€™s not on the main menu but written on the side of the board so I thought to give it a go and it was fantastic! Most falafel burgers iv had in the past have been so dry but this one was so moist and full of flavour accompanied by caramelised onions and sautĆ©ed mushrooms! Yum! Highly recommend!
Vina
Ordered a beef and mushroom burger, steak burger and chips & gravy. Beef and mushroom burger was a 3/5 because my patty was burnt and i could taste it. And because i asked the lady who took my order to add a egg n the burger but when i got there, she must have mistaken it for a extra egg burger. My cousin loved the streak burger she said it was a 5/5. However the amount of chips you get is defs not worth it. Such a small amount but atleast i know to order more in the future. And the gravy tasted like store brought packet gravy. That was a 1/5. Just ate it cos i was hungry lol.
Justin
We live close by and have been to Big J's a number of times now. We went again on Sunday 27 January. This place would have to be the best take-away, hands down. Great burgers, fresh salads, super-fresh fish, yummy chips and always, always, always tastes damn good. This little place tucked away down a side street is practically in the middle of nowhere, but it is always busy so I'd recommend phoning ahead with your order. If Big J's is a bit of drive for you, get you bums in the car and drive there because you will be really treated to some awesome, yummy food.
Gemma Burke
Always take the family here, cheap and filling with their big portions. The location is completely out of the way but maybe its best so that it stays a community secret!
KS
I ordered a bacon and egg burger today but when I got home to eat there was no bacon in my burger! I'm too lazy to call and moan about this so never mind. Also because they are my favorite burger place so I can easily forgive them about this. Dont go to Mcdonalds, go to big Js!
Avon N Sio
We only had the steak burger combos but food was tasty, fresh, and affordable. Service was super friendly. A bit of a wait but they do advise you of wait times and may recommend to call in advance when they get busy. So good!
Sandy Hsiao
Had to come here and give it a try given the high rating on Zomato. My friend and I came on a Friday and after we paid we were told it would be a 40min wait. We ordered two burgers and one serving of onion rings. We had no choice but to wait it out in the car. So definitely not much of a ā€œquick eatā€ when theyā€™re busy. <br/>By the time we got our burgers we were starving. I got the steak burger and found the meat too chewy. We also both found the burgers to be too dry and added our own avocado and extra mayo and tomato sauce to moisten it up. Onion rings were tasty and crunchy but batter quite thick. <br/>All in all pretty disappointed and will prefer to go to nearby burger places, but the prices are good for reasonably large burgers! If not for the price Iā€™d give a 2.
SpoonMe
Tried this place out after hearing so many good things about it and it was amazing! <br/>Huge burgers that are so cheap but still taste amazing!! <br/>I didnā€™t expect my burger to be so heavy when I picked it up especially when itā€™s only $6.5! <br/>
Jack Von Lithium
Quite a nice little takeaway tucked away in a quiet residential area that does some pretty mean burgers. Their burgers are thick and saucy! Well priced too! Chips are ok šŸ‘ŒI recommend trying the chicken and bacon burger, its probably one of the best chicken burgers I've had and I don't even like chicken burgers but I'd go out of my way to come here just for it any day!
Jacqui Anderson
Best burger shop in Auckland in my opinion! Make sure to try the Burgers of the week, the Kumara fries and Aioli AND the gravy and fries. AMAZING
Foodie Foodie
Amazing burger! Worth the money, bigger size and great taste! Already recommend to my friends, when I want burger this is the first place come to my mind! And their chill burger is truely the most spice in NZ
Angelhazer
Love coming to big js when I'm feeling like a yummy hearty burger!! Love seeing what their weekly specials are on their Facebook page, changes on a weekly basis. Burgers, fresh fish, curried mussels and desserts (changes weekly depending on what they have) are all my go to. Never disappointed, highly recommended.
Duchess_Arg
Delightful burgers, crispy kumara chips and potato chips are perfect combination. Not to mention everything is affordable too! Couldnā€™t ask for more.
Chevarne Tyler Pasirio George
Service is always good here. Can never leave this place without getting their famous burgers. Lemon pepper fries are to die for šŸ˜ Probably one of my favourite takeaway shops ever!
DVDM
Friendly fellas helm the small joint. The burgers are absolutely top notch, the service is excellent and the food is fresh and worth your dollar. Simple menu fit for everyone, with the addition of interesting options such as consuming incredibly hot chilli's. I don't make a trip out this way often, but I'm infinitely glad I did. The atmosphere is similar to other fish and chip shops but it has a much more lively feeling and doesn't feel stale. The seating arrangements are worn but solid and stable, adding to the rustic feel of the restaurant. The wait time is short and sweet, and there is music to accompany you. Overall, would go back and would make a trip to go back. Cheers guys.
Jadya
Was really excited to try this place in the weekend, but was sadly really disappointed. My partner ordered a steak and egg burger, add bacon. Didnā€™t get the bacon which we paid extra for, but instead got a hair in his burger! Bought a cheesecake also which tasted like a cheesecake from the shop which they bought and cut up to sell. The loaded fries were loaded with spring onions as if that was the topping not the garnish lmao! I ordered the cheeseburger which was okay but Iā€™d rather their hot chips which was the best!! First and last time, not going back!
Luu Queen
Service is super good. The team is friendly and fast. Food taste awesome. However, a little messy in the way package food. I love the fact that you guys have vegan options and best side dishes ever.
Marcus Lau
We visited this shop for dinner tonight. As the shop was rather small and the seats were very limited and not as comfortable for dine in, we ordered our foods for takeaway.<br/><br/>We had Burger of the week (marinated steak, bacon, sauteed mushrooms, battered king prawns, tomato tortilla strips, Cheddar cheese, homemade aioli, etc), Big J''s chicken & bacon burger (marinated chicken breast and bacon), battered onion rings, and sweet potato wedges.<br/><br/>Both the burgers were very tasty, the steak and chicken breast were flavoursome, juicy and tender. The sweet potato wedges were very good too. The battered onion rings were average.<br/><br/>The staff who took our order was averagely friendly. The prices were reasonable.<br/><br/>The setback was that the place looked a bit run down, gloomy with no lights at the front walkway just outside the shop. Nevertheless, as their burgers are really good, we will still be back again soon!<br/><br/>Food & Beverage : 8/10<br/>Service : 5/10<br/>Price : 7/10<br/>Ambience : 4/10<br/>

I have just heard of this place last month so went and bought some for dinner. Burgers are huge so family is happy. Super steak is the one for me. Its now one of my favourite burger places!
Lyn Kim
I found this while eating my surf and turf deluxe burger. It was a sharp metal object and if I had eaten this, it would have been very dangerous.<br/>I visit here often, but I was really disappointed this time.

We finally got to taste the burgers of this legendary takeaway shop. I must say that it did not disappoint!<br/><br/>I tried their fish burger, while mum-in-law and my wife had beef and mushroom burgers. Their standard filling is comprised of lettuce, tomato and caramelised onions. Portions were gigantic, patties were fresh and yummy, and prices were affordable. Their fish patty was battered with a tinge of lemon which made it really tasty. Their fries and onion rings were not too bad, either.<br/><br/>To top it all, all the staff members were friendly and chatty to customers. They seemed to love what they were doing despite being busy most of the time.<br/><br/>We will definitely come back to try their other burgers.
Mano Yu
Tbh, first experience here was not satisfied. The staff ordered wrong food and made me feel bad.<br/>The chips was not hot when I had it. Anyway the burger was good.
Akesa Tangitau
Burgers are exactly what my friends and family said: Juicy and Delicious! Only issue was that they forgot to add my onion rings and I had to come all the way back to get them :(
S J
I tried a burger with a beef pattie in it. The pattie was too soft and I wanted it more firmness in texture. I liked the grilled flavour but felt not enough taste in the burger. I should have bought some extra sauce in a small container which was available on the side of the counter. My freind was satisfied with a burger which got a steak in it saying he wants to go back to try other burgur. If there's a chance, I want to try a burger with chicken in it next time.
Burunghantu
$7 beef mushroom burger. They say this is one of the best burgers in Auckland and I think I have to agree. Patty is juicy, burger is bigger than your mcd, price is cheap, ..itā€™s just simply good. Definitely recommend this.
Clint JCASHD
mean burgers form big Jays, I love a good burger and drive to my Wellington to try them out.people waiting in line to order lucky I ordered over the phone because it gets quite busy. I'm from west Auckland but still worth the drive.
Chris
Amazing place, burgers were very generous and full of flavour. Their Kumara chips were really yum too but slightly too much salt. Will definately be back, thanks!
Aria Mendes
Fish burger was so good and the aioli is just as good as burger fuels which is saying something. <br/><br/>Pricier than other takeaway stores but the quality is worth it! Definitely coming back when Iā€™m in the area :)
OscoKove
Absolutely divine burgers! Some of the other menu items don't get as much love as their burgers do so aren't as top quality but however the only downside is they are too popular so sometimes wait times for burgers can be an hour or more. Phone ahead so you know how long until you can go get them but if it's constantly engaged you know it will be a wait. But the flavour that they pack into the patties alone is mouthwatering. Good prices though and a must try if you love their burgers!
Alexis Stanley
Great burgers & the kumara chips are sublime!!! Steak in the burgers are tender & juicy without making the burger soggy. Bit of a wait 30+ minutes (obviously itā€™s quite popular) but definitely worth it!!!
Food.review.nz
Super great burgers - perfect option for takeaways! My definite regular when I'm craving a good sizedĀ burger as they have a range of flavours for a really good price. Their bread is fresh and all their fillings are served hot and juicy. Often I do find that their meat is a bit burnt when served thus next time I might try their fish burger or other fillings.Ā <br/><br/>They have a good range of sides also that complement any burger perfectly.Ā <br/><br/>Food 7.5/10<br/>Service 6/10<br/>Ambience 5.5/10<br/>Price 8/10

4.5<br/><br/>The chicken and bacon spicy burger is the best. Also like their toasted sandwiches. Wait times could be really long sometimes so better if you order in advance.Ā <br/><br/>Its a takeaway but don't expect a quick order and grab scene like other chains. They take time but the result is good so you get great tasting burgers. Wish they had more stores or the location was a bit better.<br/><br/>Kumara fries are average and sometimes retain more oil than our liking. Same goes for fritters.

Big Jā€™s has been my favourite spot for years. Great burgers at a decent price and sweet as chips with the option of seasoning - not a clue why more places donā€™t do this. Love the garlic aioli. Spicy chicken and bacon burger would have to be my all time go to favourite. Always a good portion of juicy chicken and crispy bacon. They do specials every week and Iā€™m still holding onto the hope that the whiskey business burger will make another appearance. Great owner with great taste and well trained staff. Over the years Iā€™ve never found the standard drop. My 1 and only knit pick would be an occasional over seasoning on the chips or wedges. Thank you Big Jā€™s - Best burgers in NZ!
Healthy.as
Big Jā€™s never disappoints! Their buns are very fresh and soft, and the fish is nicely battered. Not to mention their chicken salt fries are to die for. They are constantly busy which means there is usually a 30 minuet wait so I do recommend calling up and making an order. Despite this there has never been a mistake with our orders and the staff are always cheerful.
Linlin
For a takeaway this place is the bomb !! <br/>Iā€™m not the biggest fan of burgers but Big Jā€™s may have changed that. I ordered their weekly special burger the Mexican Amigo and it was so big I nearly couldnā€™t finish it. On top of that I also ordered the kumura wedges which were 11/10. Crispy on the outside but soft and sweet on the inside, it was cooked to perfection. Overall experience was great šŸ‘šŸ¼
Little Borneo Girl
My regular burger takeaway.Ā  Except goingĀ for their specials sometimes,Ā I mostly order their Big J Special Burger which is my favourite.Ā  I find their burgers nice and moist.Ā  Prices are reasonable.Ā  Also love the kumara chips.Ā  My daughter bought me a burger last week justĀ after I had dinner so I saved it for the next day's brunch.Ā  I baked it in halves and then added a friedĀ egg on top.Ā  The picture here is the modified burger and it was still nice even though I did not get to eat it straightway.

This little take-away place definitely gives the bigger burger joints a good run for their money!! Ever since we were told about it last year and tried it out, we became instant fans and get our burger and chips fix here often!<br/><br/>One of our favourites on the menu is the Fish Burger! Burgers are big and super delicious!! Honestly the picture I took doesn't do it justice! <br/>Kumara chips (sorry forgot to take a pic) are a hit with my husband too - he'd live on those if he could! Gravy is quite tasty, that you can get with your chips to dip in! Comes in a handy container. I'd recommend not getting too much salt on your chips or any at all if you do order gravy. That's not a stab at the gravy either, I honestly love it but I feel it gives the chips a nice flavour without needing salt. Curry spring rolls are very nice too!<br/><br/>There is a table outside and inside you can eat on - or simple take home and enjoy! Gets very busy here (obviously because of their nice food!)<br/><br/>Customer service is great here! <br/><br/>This will always be a place that we'd recommend to others to go for a great burger or fish n chips! <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Burgers šŸ˜ hmm so filling and absolutely tasty<br/>šŸ” Big J's Special Burger is my personal favourite šŸ¤¤<br/>with a double scoop of šŸ„”SweetPotato Wedges šŸŸ accompanied by Homemade Chillias Aioli as for my son his favourite is the šŸ·Big J's Oinka Hotdog šŸŒšŸ˜

Easily my favourite takeaways in Auckland. The burgers are great, especially the steak burger. But easily the best thing is their kumara fries, a must have if you're going.

I discovered Big Jā€™s 3 years ago, and always keen for a ride to grab one of their awesome burgers !!! <br/>The best is town for sure !!! And a great service
Evelyn
Love their burgers! Had bacon&egg and super steak last. Recommended! Probably the best burger I've had so far, definitely gonna go in and try other burgers next time.
Sholz Hard Core
best burgers in the world !!!!!!!!!. never disappoints me and awesome staff. burger of week is never let down . onion rings so good. kumara fries so yum too

Heard a lot about this place so randomly went one day with my cousin.. their servings of chips is massive just like their burgers! Really enjoyed it and didnā€™t have a long wait.. must have showed up at the right time!! Canā€™t wait to go again!

Made a day plan to get burgers from here and go watch the planes take off and land. The burgers were pretty good, nice but nothing to call home about. Juicy patties with a generous amount of toppings. We ordered garlic fries on the side which were basically fries tossed with garlic salt. They tasted very good with aioli. A good burger place with cheap pricing and decent food.<br/> <br/>azanagoesbananas.weebly.com

Burgers used fresh buns, and a good slap of tasty sauces. However, am I the only one who cannot appreciate how adulterated and processed their beef burger patties taste? The patties no longer taste or feel like beef. It was overly seasoned and had too much fillers. Maybe I should try the steak or fish burger the next time instead to avoid disappointment. If cheap prices is how this place earned their customers, Iā€™ll have to give it to them.<br/><br/>Only thing good from the meal was the onion rings!! Otherwise, unless youā€™re trying to save a couple of bucks, donā€™t waste your time waiting 30 minutes even at off peak 3pm for your burger here.

Best burgers around, awesome flavours and nice and big. Love the variety with the burger of the week keeps it fresh. Also gotta get a chilli dog every time. Absolutely worth the drive over from Sthside
Mmmfood
The burgers are quite tasty, especially given the reasonable price. I do find that this place is a little bit overrated, though. In my opinion, while they make good burgers, they are not the best burgers in Auckland. Since the claims of offering the best burgers in Auckland have made their way out into the world though, brace yourself for a hefty wait, depending on what time of the day you get your burger.

Yummy filling burgers! With choice of drink or chips! Defs recommend if youre in mt wellington! Friendly staff that make you feel welcome. You cant go wrong! The bad bit if when you finish it. Highly recommend!

coulda sworn i went to big j's but must've been little j's with this tiny piece of hoki I got with my crabstick and chips hahaha! The fish is tiny as! Oh well now we know.

If you love burgers then you must try this place. We had a little mishaps a few months ago and the manager was happy to help us out. Not only was the food A+ the customer service was amazing. The staff were friendly and thoughtful. Would recommend to those looking for too class burgers and fries.
Fatcat
I had the cheeseburger. Probably my favourite burger of all the burgers Iā€™ve tried. Beef patty was delicious, bun so soft, good honest flavours. HEAPS of chips. Very low price.
Anna Celligoi
The best burger joint tucked away in the back streets of Mt Wellington. Delicious fresh burgers and yummy sides for an extremely good price! I have struggled to order over the phone and the wait is generally pretty long, but it's worth the drive and wait.
Max
I like this place awesome service, really Good food the chips n gravy are the perfect match! I had a snapper burger as well and that was good as. Has all the right stuff in there the egg cooked perfectly. My food didn't last long and I ate way to much! I'll be back for sure.

If I could give them a higher rating I would. These guys nail it every time. Always friendly and very speedy considering what comes out of that kitchen. The best burgers in town. I always order the burger of the week and it never fails to impress me, amazing combination of flavours and textures.

We called to order and true to their estimated time, we got it at exactly half an hour. Standard takeaway shop and good customer service. We had the Super Steak Burger, Bacon & Egg burger and chips and gravy. The burger is huge and very filling. However, I was not pleasantly surprised with the taste of cumin in my Bacon and Egg burger. The patty itself was a little dry. Some of the chips were not cooked through and I find the gravy too salty. Mind you I like tasty & saltish food so for me to say it was salty, that means it would be really salty for a regular palette. However, I like the dressing of the Super Steak burger. I would love to try their fish burgers next time.

Took some burgers and other items to take away. The burgers are nice and tasty. We also got some spring rolls and mac and cheese bites. The mac and cheese bites were nice. The spring roll was ok. Nice cheap dinner.

Great fish n chips too. Amazing little joint <br/>Good stuff. Fresh fish,.multiple flavours of seasoning for fries. <br/>The selection on burgers are also pretty Daim incredible too
Justin Maloney
Heard good things so decided to give it a go. Was not disappointed. Great food, best burgers we've had in a long time. Only thing I'd like to see is a couple of vegetarian options, but even without that still great. Would recommend phoning in order as gets really busy.

Came here today with a friend seeing as the rating was really high! I was not disappointed :') best gourmet burger ive had! Love at first bite. The photos are ugly but it was so so good T-T fish n chips. GREAT! Low price so worth trying out. Will 100% be back!!

A lot of people rave about this place and we finally stopped by for dinner here. Honestly don't see how amazing this place is in terms of food (obviously). <br/><br/>I ordered the fish burger and a hot dog and yes, the burgers were huge but it wasn't that ...amazing? Like it was just a huge burger. That's it. My partner didn't like the patty that was in his burger. It wasn't a proper beef patty which was quite dry. The hot dog wasn't saveloy which was a bummer. Overall, it was just another fish n chip shop. Nothing special or worth raving about. <br/><br/>One thing that I did like was the coconut raw fish that they sold there! šŸ˜‹ thought it was a little bit on the pricey side for a small punnet of raw fish though.
LilMiss Foodie
Prices competing with your local takeaway joint, but burgers better than any gourmet burger franchise in New Zealand.<br/><br/>For $8 you get a $20 worth burger you'd pay elsewhere. Will definitely come and recommend. Congrats on being in Metro Mag!<br/><br/>What we ordered:<br/>Super Steak Burger<br/>Prime beef egg burger<br/>Hoki battered fish - amazing
Jane
Sweet potato was soooo nice! <br/>But burger wasn't so good. Bit salty ,gross<br/>and the vegetable wasn't fresh. <br/>Will go again for the sweet potato but won't have the burger again
S2Psycho
This place was not that overwhelming. it was too greasy, pattie was over cooked, the vege was soggy from all the oil, and it was abit to bland... i went there thinking it was the best in auckland, but it was a big let down. The lady at the counter was rude, as i was just asking some few questions. Overall for the price thats given its Allgood, but its not my style...

After hearing a lot o great reviews from people and hearing the claim "best burgers in Auckland" multiple times I just had to try them! <br/>I finally dragged my friend there, and as we walked it it has the typical nz fish and chips shop feel and vibe which I completely appreciate. The person running the till had so much personality and buoyancy it was completely contagious and spread onto everyone in the shop! I came to find out that our server was in fact big J himself and it was really cool to see him interact with all his customers in such a personal level. <br/><br/>The food definitely lives up to standard! The chips are pretty great and the calamari was really good too! The burgers are by far the best part. They are so full of flavour and all the ingredients worked so beautifully together. I definitely recommend this place it is absolutely amazing.

Hidden away in the surburb of Mt Wellington this takeaway joint is a heavy hitter<br/><br/>Had two fresh snapper, chips and a special burger <br/><br/>The fried snapper is made on order and is fresh and crispy. Good portion size.<br/><br/>The special burger was well balanced with a juicy beef patty, bacon, cheese, mushroom and sauce. I liked how the bacon wasnt too salty that can sometime mask the flavour of the other meats.<br/><br/>Only downside to this place is thats its a bit of a drive but was totally worth the trip.<br/><br/>4 Yums
Sarah Faith
Staff are very friendly, despite the comment one of them made about me ordering abit to much food and asking me if i was sure that I wanted that much food. Just wanted to laugh. Moving forward the special burger is always a favorite of mine, food is always freshly made which makes me still coming for more :)
Nathalie
We had lunch here and did phone order (last time we were here Friday lunch there was a 45mins wait) but Tuesday lunch wasn't so busy, would recommend to order on phone instead of waiting. We had Big J special burger, mushroom burger, chips and gravy and raw fish. The special burger was yum and meat was moist however there wasn't much sauce nor mushroom. The rest of the food was yum especially their gravy and raw fish!! For the price and quality it's definitely a winner and will be back to try other burgers.
Rohit
Ordered a Chicken and Bacon burger over the phone, asked to pick up in 15 mins. Flavours were great - had a sort of BBQ feel to the chicken and onions + bacon was delicious. Would definitely come back and try their weekly specials. Only negative would be the takeaway packet.. perhaps needs a box rather than paper as all the sauce makes the paper packet damp.
Miss M
Ordered an hour ahead of time by phone, and food was ready and hot on pick up. I got the spicy chicken burger and while it tasted good, it had the tiniest piece of chicken breast in it, very thin and overdone. For almost $10, this was nothing more than a poor imitation of an Oportos bondi burger. Cheeseburger looked and tasted better. The chips n' gravy , and aioli dip were perfect. I'd go back just for those!
Gina Partridge
Serve the crunchiest and tastiest onion rings I've ever tried! Burgers, hot dogs and chips with gravy are good too! Check their Facebook page for specials- tried their cajun crispy chicken wings with blue cheese aioli and they were divine!
Daopeksou
As expected of Big J's, the burger was yummy but my favourite was the kumara chips!! The best I've tried so far. The staff was very friendly. I'd recommend to phone ahead to order as they can get very busy.
Chloe Sharrock
Have visited Big J's a few times now, I drive from the North Shore because their burger of the week, hot chips and onion rings are worth every second of traffic on the drive over. Service is always amazing, you will be greeted with a smile. The food is to die for, and is so cheap! Thursday's are always my favourite day of the week, because burger of the week is announced. Love you Big J's ā¤ļøā¤ļø

I see why this place is so beloved!<br/><br/>Given the reviews about busyness and waiting times we ordered our food ahead of time and arrived in the time we were told it would be ready. All I had to do was go in, pay, and everything was handed over! 10/10 for prompt and friendly service.<br/><br/>Also 10/10 for food. I tried the chicken and bacon spicy burger, which is immense, so only get this if you're starving. The other burgers were the fish and egg, steak and egg, and beef and mushroom, which were also huge but not a tasty bite wasted! <br/><br/>Also great value for yummy extras like the Kiwi dog, which is very nicely put together, and the chips, which are sold by the scoop. The word scoop doesn't imply a huge portion; yet we received a huge portion! Having ordered 2 scoops we saw we could have got by easily with just the one... Again, very good value for high quality :)<br/><br/>They offer a nice range of sides and extras, which would be worth going back for if all made to the same quality!
Jeffie
Came here on a friend's high recommendation of the gravy and fries, I found them to be ok not amazing as my friend described. We also had the cheese burger, special burger, onion rings and raw fish.Ā <br/>The burgers and onions rings were delicious and filling, while the raw fish wasn't good at all to me, the taste and texture just wasn't what I was used to but maybe pleasing to someone else?<br/>Service and ambience is typical of a takeaway and due to the popularity of the place there are a lot people but overall a good takeaway.
Mojo Jade
im gonna be dat guy and say this place is overrated. chips were nice crisp and fresh, well seasoned and fresh. big js special hot dog, the hot dog is just a boiled factory frankfurter, for 5/5 I expect at least a bratwurst or butcher made all beef dog. the onions/bacon n mushrooms that came w it was nice. had the bacon cheeseburger, predominately taste the onions, bacon and cheese, the patty lacks beef flavor e.g. burger king angus beef patty has more beef flavor,

Massive delicious fresh real burger~~ I had the burger of the week which has chicken and scallop, so yummy!!! Mum had the fish burger, which had a whole fish fillet in there~~ Very filling, if you not hungry you could probably have the burger for 2 meals.<br/><br/>The wait time can be very very long. When I was there they were out of kumara wedgesšŸ˜”...

Bad and rude customer service. Always wait over 40 minutes on Fridays n Saturdays for food. Won't recommended going there at all to be honest.<br/>
Courtney Moore
Absolutely bomb burgers. They are huge, fresh and tasty, honestly the best takeaway shop burgers I have EVER had. Sometimes we even make the 30+ minute drive up just to have a Big J's visit<br/>Pro tip: Chips+gravy= taste bud orgasm.
Nicole Rosalie Alazas
Love this place. Auckland classic. make sure to try their Burger of the week creations. It changes every week. Their sweet potato fries is also a classic. Cant miss that one. <br/>

OMG!!!!Absolutely fabulous burgers, so flavoursome and yummy, I travel from Mt Albert to Mt Wellington for these burgers, chips and definitely fish. Highly recommend this takeaway to the world. Great service as well, they are so patient, polite and so helpful - especially with the fact that there are so yummy selections.

Went there yesterday to see it for myself , and I got to Say it lives up to its standard . <br/><br/>Going there again tonight . A+++ would highly recommend

Good quality burgers, love that they do weekly special burgers. Location is a bit out in suburban nowhere but not that far away from Sylvia park.

Always going to big js, never been disappointed with my food. Huge fan of their toasties, oinka hot dog, raw fish, chips and spicy chicken burger! Can't wait to taste the rest of the menu over time. They have handpicked great staff members. Does get a bit busy and takes time with order but phoning up to pre order is great so you're not waiting around at the store. šŸ˜Š
Ian Pann
Staffs are friendly, burgers take a while to be made but its worth the wait when you're one of the many many people who also ordered from there too. burgers are one of the best, along with the fries. sweet potato fries are one of my favs to buy whenever i go to big j's.
Chiny Chin Chin
I've ordered their spicy chicken burger it was so delicious! They are very busy lil shop make sure u ring em to order or u will have to wait for AT LEAST 20 minutes !<br/><br/>$5 fish and chips serving was too small though. But I love the seasoning on chips.
Clint Jacka
We got super steak burger with egg<br/>Chicken and bacon burger, chicken burger and kids burger, chips. And gravy..everything aside from kids burger was great, big juicy, good ingredients etc..abit expensive though , chips were good, gravy was salty and tasted like an oxo cube<br/>Kids burger was terrible dry and bland. Service was friendly, but half hour wait...its so busy there that you have to wait an eternity to get your food. Venue was clean.<br/>Will go back recommend the super steak burger with an added egg....yum.
Lana Maria Lazarevich
We came here for the first time and ordered the Super Steak Burger, Cheeseburger and some hot chips. Hollllyyy fuuuu.... I'm actually so pleased with everything. Great service, great prices, great timing, great quality of ingredients and great flavour! There's nothing I can fault, the deco might be a bit dated but it didn't affect my tummy so who cares. My favourite part was how they ask you what seasoning you want on your chips? Um ok, yes please!<br/><br/>It's so great when you can go somewhere with an empty tummy and be pleasantly surprised.

I have been to Big J's twice so far. My first visit was 3 years ago and today was my second visit. <br/><br/>The burger was as awesome as before. Nothing changed even the price was the same. You can get a decent burger with $10 or less. However, today I tried their weekly special "Little Italy" which was $15. The burger was filled with so many ingredients and truly delicious. You can check their weekly specials on their facebook page! My friend got steak and egg burger and that was goood too but for its cheap price they seem to not use actual steak steak but thin strips of some kind of beef steak. We had $5 special which consist of 1 hoki, 1 sausage and chips. The fish was delicious I think they are one of the best fish and chips in town. You must buy and try their homemade tare tare sauce too.<br/><br/>There were around 4-5 staff in a small takeaway shop so I had no doubt about fast handling of the service they provide. My burger and fish and chips were ready in about 10 minutes! <br/><br/>In the shop, there are about 4 tables inside and 2 tables outside so you can dine in as well as takeaway. <br/><br/>Overall great taste and service no wonder why they are so popular that people from everywhere in Auckland take a trip to this far mt wellington area for this.
I_like_pickles
Big J's gets so busy. If you're wanting dinner here you better phone in to make sure they're still taking orders.<br/><br/>Service is fast and friendly despite it being so busy. There are a few car parks outside. <br/><br/>Their fish burger was really tender and the Oinka hotdog was flavoursome and delicious. The chips are fried to crisp perfection and you can get it in lemon pepper, garlic, chicken and sea salt. I've tried the chicken and lemon and pepper and both are fantastic. Chips are a generous serve and aren't oily.<br/><br/>They also sell pudding and desserts as well as poke aka ceviche.
Sindy Xian
Rushed to this place yesterday. It was packed for a small takeaway. I am not a big fan for burgers, but this is definitely better than burger fuel. Lot's of goodies in the burger, like the flavours and it's a good price.<br/><br/>One tip for all: they are always busy, so it would be smart to pre-order through phone, then pick up. Otherwise it's approx 25mins waiting if not longer.
Jenna Kelly
So much to like about this place - I've had their burgers, wraps, lasagne, homemade aioli, soup, cheesecake and mousse - all delicious - and you can choose the seasoning on your chips. Phone your order in as it gets busy.
R-Dee Roche
Uhm the burgers here are to die for. Never mind that the place is in a super random area in Mt Wellington, the food will blow you away. The chips are great too and the aioli sauce superb. Bring a healthy appetite or just buy one burger and share it with a friend.

Blink and youā€™ll miss it! This place is so out of the way you wouldnā€™t know itā€™s there. Make an effort to find it though, as they have consistently good (gourmet) burgers at reasonable prices ā€“ no wonder they have been voted best burgers for 3 years in a row. This is my local go to for burgers and they never disappoint, but be prepared to wait at least 20 mins though as the queue is often at the edge of the door. Better still, call up in advance if you can to save some time. My favourite is the Chicken & bacon burger! And have you to get a side of chips and gravy while youā€™re there. They have a good assortment of burgers and range of sides. With weekly specials there is always something new to try. The staff are friendly and efficient. Most people choose to takeaway but there are a few tables for those that wish to dine in. If youā€™re a burger fan, be sure to give Big Jā€™s a visit!
Jody Dreyer
This became a weekly special at my work. Food is amazing and amazingly cheap. I've heard it gets quite busy so we've always called in the orders and their timing has been impeccable. I'm yet to work my way through their whole menu but if I may I'd recommend the chicken and bacon burger, it does not disappoint. It goes without saying that I would definitely recommend this place.
Kirsty M
Finally made it here last night after hearing so many good things. It was worth the wait! I got their burger of the week which was amazing. Seems like they come up with something original each week. Onion rings are awesome, fries and curry roll good too. Can't fault them. Was a half hour wait but they had a ton of staff there, full with customers and the phone ringing off the hook so understandable! Just ring your order through and pick up. Keep up the awesome work guys!!
Shyam Yerra
Great tasting burgers...one of my favorite burger joints. Make sure to order over phone to avoid long waiting times, Try weekly specials as well
Tina
This place is the best ever. I have never been disappointed with the the food or service.<br/><br/>I've been going to Big J's since 2010 and whenever I'm in the area I swing by. <br/><br/>If you are looking for a burger that you can eat with one hand then don't come here. You need two hands to hold the delights available at Big J's.
Ashleigh Michelle
Awesome customer service and awesome food. As far as cheap takeaways go, it couldn't get any better. The burgers taste seem to be made of high quality ingredients and they are a nice big size. Staff are friendly.
Natasha Kumar
Finally decided to eat here after all the hype, considering it's only 5 minutes away from my house I don't know why it took me so long to try it! Overall the the chicken burger was pretty good, really massive and nice. Although I really wanted to try something different unfortunately the special of the week was beef and I wish they had other options as some of us can't eat beef, but overall it was good, not as good as I was hoping for but I will be back to review this place again <br/>
Momo
Yum! Their burger of the week is delicious. We bought our burger takeaway and brought our own plates and knifes and fork to eat it in the car since the place is usually super busy. šŸ˜Œ

Big Just is a bit of a rough diamond. Located in the not so nice end of Mt Wellington. But close to Sylvia park. A good solid feed and the hand made beef patty is fantastic. The low point for us was finding a processed cheese slice in the burgers. Giving very little cheese taste to an otherwise great burger.
Donna
Totally exceeded all expectations. I don't think we'll be returning to our local fish and chips shop for a long long time. We had the special burger of the week which was the prawn star, chips and fish. The burger was delicious with good quality chicken and a great mayo on top. Loved that we could choose our salt for the chips and the fish was much better than the slop we usually get from the local fish and chip shop. I ordered in advance and my food was ready just as I walked through the door.

I never imagined in my wildest dreams having to wait an hour and a half for takeaway burger and chips, but due to Big Js local renown I did just that. Despite the long wait and busyness, the staff here were friendly and relaxed - no doubt accustomed to being highly sought after. My partner and I made an order of onion rings, gravy, chips and two mushroom, bacon & beef burgers - which set us back only $26! - and were given an estimated time to collect our meal. We then went on a mini tiki tour ofEast Auckland in an effort to qualm the impressive rumbling of our bellies that began upon setting foot instore and smelling an array of delicious goodies. <br/><br/>Finally we arrived to the sight of our hefty order, which we then took to Cornwall Park to demolish in 'style'. While eating somewhere gorgeous was nice, I would recommend eating Big Js on the grass outside the very second you get your order into your hot little hands. My meal was an absolute stunner even after being packaged for 10mins, so I can only imagine how good it would be fresh off the grill.<br/><br/>Every aspect of the food was great when considered out of context, but when you really think about the fact that this is local takeaway fare, the accomplishment is legendary.<br/><br/>Special mention goes to the $3 onion rings which deserve to have a planet named in their honour.
Daniel Tso
Been here a few times now. Great place and awesome burgers, best thing is great value for money and not your typical burger. Burgers are juicy and good size!! Go for the bacon burger, my favourite!
Flay Loo
The burger is one of the best. Beef patty was home made which is very fresh and tasty. However the waiting time is a bit too long. However I will defiantly go back again. Make sure you make a phone order before hand.

After many weeks of planning to come here I finally did! I text my mate at around 12pm after the big night out and said ā€œget ready, were gng to Big Jā€.<br/><br/>This place is in my old hood so I kinda already knew where it was. If you donā€™t know the area it can be a bit tricky and out of the way but honestly itā€™s worth it. <br/><br/>The shop was already packed and pouring out with hungry customers waiting patiently for their names to be called. <br/><br/>As I looked at the menu I was so tempted to buy everything on it but thought I better be good and stick with the one burger. <br/><br/>We ordered x2 cheese burgers one with jalapeno and added egg, a steak burger and the ā€œspecial burgerā€ which was mine, a side of chips with x5 chicken nuggets and of course good old garlic aioli. <br/><br/>The ā€œspecial burgerā€ came with prime beef Pattie, cheddar, cos lettuce, sautĆ©ed mushrooms and tomato. WOOOOOOOW this burger was sent from the heavens, it reminded me of those scene in SpongeBob where the little cockroach guy wants the Krabby patty recipe but itā€™s to amazing to share. <br/><br/>The Pattie itself had so much flavour and wasnā€™t just an oiled up greasy bunch of meat slopped in side two buns, It had been well seasoned and the mushrooms accompanied it well. The cheddar was melted perfectly on top!<br/><br/>The chips were amazing and werenā€™t to oily they had garlic salt on them as well which was even better! <br/><br/>My taste buds were in heaven for real, hands down one of the best burger joints in Auckland!

After hearing a lot about this place from friends and social media. I finally decided to check this place out. I ordered cheese burger. Went home and was quite surprised to see the size of the burger and filling inside. The cost I paid 6.5$ is just a standard chicken burger price from any fish n chips shop. I was very much contented with the value for money and quality of food served. I will try more and more of this place now.
Lucy
Mmmmmm dem burgers, don't take my word for it though mate. Just get in there and get yourself a cheeky burger. Previously home to the famous dank burger (so you know where their allegiance lies). They also have a range of salts that you can have on your chips (lemon pepper, chicken, or garlic I think) but the one time we did get chips here they were a bit soggy, hence the 4.5, will try the chips again soon in case this was an off day.Ā The burgers are so reasonably priced and a mean feed! Special burger is where it's at in my humble opinion, but you should get there and make up your own mind c:

Big Js might look like a standard neighbourhood fish n chips shop but there is obviously something more to it as people rave about it. I signed up to their Facebook page a while back so starting receiving their special of the week, and these are quite something. Usually including a burger special, a wrap special and a soup. After enough of these mouth watering Facebook posts hit my feed I decided I had to check it out for myself so I got the burger special. A kublai khan, this was a garlic crusted steak in a Mongolian marinade with grilled streaky bacon, tasty cheddar cheese, char grilled red peppers, chilly aioli, Mongolian sauce and crispy onion flakes. All I can say is it was as tasty as it sounds!
Peter Watkins
Don't go there. I want it all to myself. But then I won't keep the place in business by myself. So go there. But not too many people. It's a takeaway that does burgers. 5 out of 5 burgers. Stay away.Ā  Good.
Vinny
Im a stuff between bread kind of person... no big burger goes past me without my knowledge. Its illegal in my world lol... so when i came across Big J's takeaway i was upset i only just found out this place existedšŸ˜... came with my brother and ordered the Steak burger and Bacon and egg burger with battered mussels, fish and scoop of fries. I was impressed with the service, and speed of my order coming out. We didnt eat there, it was too cold, not Big J's fault obviously, its Winter now. The fries and battered mussels i enjoyed the most. Id love to go back and try another burger like the fish or chicken one.
TheMŹŒverick
Mate.......Big J's special burger gives me hope. It gives me life. No review will do it justice, just go down and try the damn thing they're too good for words. I highly recommend phone orders unless you wanna join the queue that goes out the door. This place definitely lives up to the hype, and then some

Probably the best burgers i have eaten in a long time. You marinate your foods really good and wedges are sooo goood!! However it is a bit over priced but thats business. I'd definitely recommend people to taste the fish burger and steak and egg burger.
NEMZ
THESE BURGERS SLAY!! I ordered the fish burger which was THE BEST EVER!!!! And my partner had the steak and egg burger which was soooo yuuummm; there was a generous amount of meat which was well seasoned and marinated. It looked so good too. Definitely going back for more!Ā <br/><br/>We also ordered the kumara wedges which tasted amaaaazing!!! BUT it was $5 for such a tiny tiny tiny portion. Thats the only thing that I thought was negative.

Legendary Dank burger, it's been a pleasure knowing you.<br/><br/>After many failed attempts at going to Big J's, I was finally able to muster up the energy to drive 15 minutes out of my way to hit up the place.<br/><br/>Eating with a friend, we had the steak burger, bacon and egg burger, and fish & chips. It was awesome that we ordered beforehand, because when we arrived, our food was prepared and so we had no waiting time.<br/><br/>There was an ridiculous amount of steak in my burger which was absolutely brilliant; my friend commented that the bacon was crunchy and flavoursome. The fish and chips was a good albeit a little too salty for my liking.<br/><br/>Fritters were pretty much perfection. Hands down the best fritter I've ever had in my life.<br/><br/>Portion, price and flavour: this place has it all, and I would recommend this place to everybody.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Fritter was amazing and the steak burger was a crowd favourite. <br/><br/>Overall Grade: A

Holly Molly best burger I have had so far. Friendly, super efficient and bloody good food.<br/>We had their Burger of the week "farmers friend" and their Special burger. <br/><br/>The prim beef patty in the Special bugger was tender and juicy which complimented perfectly with the crunchy bacon and sautƩed mushrooms. <br/><br/>"Farmers friend" was as delicious as the Special prime patty burger. All the ingredient went so well together, melts in the mouth and make you wanting more after each bite. <br/><br/>Will be coming here regularly to try all the items on the menu !!!!<br/><br/><br/>

I love this place. Great staff and awesome food! We come here often. I would recommend calling first and having a look at their menu online as understandably they are busy a lot of the time. Highly recommended! !!

The place is pretty far from where I stay but totally worth the drive. The burgers are spot on and massive and not highly priced at all. The only set back is the wait on food. I would suggest you order before you leave your house so that you don't have to wait long. I would highly recommend this place to all burger lovers.

Best Burgers. Period.<br/><br/>Finally tried this place. I'd heard about the buzz this place was generating with the long wait times, all the Insta posts, Facebook check in's and general word of mouth.<br/><br/>Like I had been warned, I placed a phone order and I am glad I did. The phone operator who took my order was friendly and let me know that the wait time would be 35 minutes and seeing that it was a Saturday night, a very reasonable time.<br/><br/>Verdict. Burgers šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼šŸ‘šŸ¼ I ordered the Egg Burger and The Burger of the Week. I demolished both. Big J's burgers are exactly what you want from a burger. Soft Buns, juicy, tasty fillings at a very reasonable price. Also love the fact you can buy gravy for dunking chips and a choice of what salt to season your fries with. šŸ‘ŒšŸ½ nice work Big J's!<br/><br/><br/><br/>

A few years ago I started a burger joint. It was voted the best burger in the region by a national radio station. Burgers are a passion of mine.<br/><br/>So lets talk about my cheeseburger at Big J's.<br/><br/>Great buns. Excellent size and extremely fresh. The beef patty was sublime and your salad ingredients were fresh and crispy. I had to wait 30 minutes and I thought that was a bit ridiculous, but after tasting it...I'd wait an hour for a burger like that. Well done Big J's.<br/><br/>The only reason I never gave you a perfect ranking was because that Rihanna "work work work" song was playing in the background and that song sucks so bad it will suck the fun out of any experience.<br/><br/>I have attached a photo of my empty plate. I was going to take a photo of the half eaten burger, but I couldnt stop eating long enough to take the photo.

What a great establishment you have going here. Ā The burgers really contain the amount the pictures show, true kiwi burgers that are full to the brim and tasty as heck. Ā 30 min round trip from our house but we went back 2 nights in a row last week for some great burgers, and we'll continue to do so when we want a good burger. Ā Love the choice of salts you can add to the chips and optional gravy too. Ā A little different from the normal chippy. Ā We'll be back, probably very soon. :)

Phenomenally great tasting burgers. Best to order by phone unless you're prepared to wait upwards of 30 mins. Auckland's best, if not NZ. As Singaporeans like to say, Die Die Must Try!

This rating is not really based on burger...I know I'm weird!! I heardĀ  A LOT about Big J and really wanted to try their burger but something went wrong in my mind that day that I ordered only 1 burger and other dishes.<br/><br/>Fish burger was nice, no doubt why they are famous for burgers. First time having fish burger with egg. However the tartare sauce had really strong taste and smell of onion (I don't like raw onion) Personally that was a mark down from me.<br/><br/>Chilli hot dog was nice, nothing special about it to be honest. <br/>Fish,mussels and chips were really let me down! I choose lemon pepper on chips and I don't think it was good. I had chips with lemon pepper from other places and it was a lot better than here. The batter they used for fish and mussels was not crispy at all. It was kinda thick with soggy texture. I really don't like it. <br/><br/>Don't be stupid like me going to Big J and order fish and chips, just go for burger and you will be satisfied!

Best burgers ever! The wait time can vary from a few minutes to just over an hour or so but it is worth every minute. The staff are great and the food is unbelievably cheap! The portion sizes are huge and the food is fresh. Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area.

When it comes to value, this is the best burger joint in the city. Ā They aren't the prettiest(or healthiest) burgers, but they have heaps of flavour and come at an unbelievable price. We also found the chips to be good, the option to add lemon or chicken salt is really nice.<br/><br/>The only drawbacks are the location (a bit of a drive from just about anywhere) and the lack of a decent sit down environment.Ā <br/><br/>We'll be back in every time we're near Sylvia Park.
Amit Tripuraneni
The burgers are very reasonably priced for their size and the quality is pretty good too. Fries with gravy was the bomb. The gravy is really tasty and worth ordering a takeaway container. Long waits - phone order or in person. Best to call in beforehand.

First time here. Got a cheese burger and a chicken and bacon burger. Each ingredient was the perfect amount and complimented the others perfectly. I don't like onions (weird I know) but the onions in theses burgers were perfect and amazing. Quite sweet, maybe they were caramelised? Not sure but I love it. Sauces perfect. Will definitely go back! Excuse the photos, ate in the car as got there right on closing and could wait until we got home šŸ˜

" Big J's Kiwiana " prime beef pattie with grilled bacon, cheddar cheese, sautƩed onions, aioli, beetroot, pickles & a fried egg $13<br/><br/>Always great quality ingredient and great tasting burger! Best burger place in Auckland.

Big J's is almost a legend among takeaway shops in Auckland which is what prompted my partner and I to pay a visit.Ā  They offer weekly specials onĀ  limited editions burgers and wraps. We've tried their weekly special chicken and bacon burger and and mushroom with pesto both of which were pretty satisfying and would be great top have on a more permanent basis as the flavors matched well. Their special burger is pretty good with a well cooked beef patties pairing well with sauces. Great value and very filling!

Been wanting to try this for ages due to amazing reviews.Ā  Drove 20 minutes to pick up.Ā  Luckily I called ahead as wait time was 30 min.Ā  Overall summary is it's just OK.Ā  I guess for the price its not too bad.Ā  But this ain't gourmet as I expected from the reviews.Ā  Buns are tip top supermarket buns.Ā  Lettuce was not good quality.Ā  Cheese was processed slice like the ones that come individually wrapped.Ā  I'm sure patty is home made but it tasted really processed.Ā  My wife and son did not want to finish theirs.Ā  Mine was OK.In summary I've had worse.Ā  But I was quite disappointed.Ā  I wasn't looking for a budget meal.Ā  Staff were very nice though.
Allie
These guys chips are top notch, with a select of salt to choose from, chicken, garlic, lemon & pepper, or plain, they are one of the best chips in the city.
Ryan McLaren
Called atĀ 18:00 Friday expecting quite a wait.Ā  To our surprise we could specify our pick up time which they were bang on time for at 19:15.Ā  Ordered 6 burgers, 2 fish and 2 chips - get the chicken salt!Ā  Good range of burgers that kept everyone happy, will definitely be back again soon.Ā  Great bang for buck in such a hidden location.
Mezza
Been going to Big J's for sometime. Cannot fault their burgers. Probably best to call in your order before leaving, as they get really busy and the wait can be real long. I reckon they do the best burgers in Auckland and I love trying the burgers of the week.
Tessa Hall
We had to try this place after hearing so many good things. We were not disappointed! We ordered the super steak burger and the beef and mushroom and chicken salt chips. My beef burger melted in your mouth and was delicious. Chips were good too!! Really reasonably priced and good service.

Following their Facebook page, It's impossible to not want to venture out to mount Wellington every week to try their special burgers! This week when the chorizo and steak burger popped up on my newsfeed, I knew I had to try! A pretty low key fish and chip shop, great prices and awesome quality food. I really loved the burger but the fries, onion rings and calamari were a miss. I would definitely come back if I was in the area, or if another special burger stood out to me. Yum!
Ashlene Cheryl Cardoza
I opted for the BOTW which was a steak and chorizo burger. In one word: excellent. It was everything you could imagine a burger should have - thick slices of chorizo, succulent steak, sweet sautƩed onions, sharp cheddar and generous helping of chilli aioli. The burger is very rustic in presentation. Don't go expecting fancy boxes or cutlery. It looks like something you could make on a summer BBQ. And that I think is the beauty of Big J's<br/><br/>It was my first time here so didn't know about the phone orders, but will definitely call in before coming next time...and yes there will definitely be a next time. I wanna try everything on their menu!
Aucklandfoodlover
As the name suggests it's a takeaway shop. These guys were voted as the burger shop in Auckland. One of the guys at work picked up the burger during lunch. On a bike and in a heat bag. So was relatively fresh but I felt my burger was slightly squashed. Nothing wrong with restaurant but with the delivery guy. <br/>I ordered for BOTW which was a Mexican burger. Burger had jalapeƱos, beef pattie, lettuce etc. It was very filling. Good value for money. The rating reflects how I got my burger. I will try going there on my own and have it straight away. Having said that I still doubt whether this is the best burger place in Auckland
Deborah Leilua
Easily the best burgers in Auckland! Super cheap, large portions and so flavorsome. Always find it hard to finish my meal because the burgers are huge! Difficult to get a seat in because the place is so small but good takeaway spot.
Joanne Chiang
I live around the corner from big j's. Everyone said i must be so sick of them for having j's burger too often. No! I love this place! Even if its 1 hour wait, i am still willing to wait for an hour than go get other average tasting burger. Loyal fan loyal customer!!!

Mmmmmm, good ole take away food! <br/> Decided to give this place a try after hearing so many raving reviews! <br/><br/> We weren't let down. I enjoyed my toastie with homemade pesto, bacon, and cheese. Simple yet so good! Although I wish my pesto wasn't so dry, but whilst grilling the oils must have been soaked up by the bread. <br/> My friends thoroughly enjoyed their Big Js Special burgers, mentioning that cheese would have topped it off. <br/><br/> Our fries. Let me say you can never go wrong with chicken salt haha. The garlic fries wasn't seasoned enough in our opinion but the fries were cooked to perfection! Crunchy on the outside and beautifully fluffy on the inside!<br/><br/>Well priced burgers here. Definitely under the $10 mark.<br/><br/> I understand why this place has raving reviews, I'd highly recommend and be back for more ā˜ŗļø

This place is a buzz, the location is great! Food is a good price, great for family takeaways. The whole 'takeaway' idea with burgers, chips, etc. are a bit over done, try do something different, be bold, you might get a 5/5 next time I go there. Other than that, the food was great, big portions, good price, not so long wait. Highly recommended from another foodie mum!

People were raving about the place so we gave it a try. First, we had to call the place in advance to place an order. making a pop-in order doesnt seem possible. Well, practically it is a place next to a dairy shop, so there is nothing special about its surroundings, or interior at all. they have worn out seaters and wobbly tables. Its so obvious that they want you to Take-it-Away. As per the food, we had cheeseburgers and chips: bread was big for the patty, patty tasted okay. But I dont know, i cant figure what the entire ravers were on. Its just a gourmet burger, but doesnt worth all the advance-calling and km travelling. Must be good for the locals. not my type.

This burger joint is one to die for! This in my opinion is one of the best burger places in auckland that everyone has to try. I had ordered the cheeseburger and my partner had ordered the steak burger. These had been the best burgers I have ever tried. With succulent prime beef pattys and fresh vegetables that is all I had ever wanted in a burger with this price. I do however recommend to preorder because of the massive amount of orders this little place gets. Food, service and price is something I would have countless times.

Decided to try Big J's, heard they have some tasty burgers. Place was pumping when I got there, I ordered the Big J's Special burger and a side of fries with aioli sauce, got the chicken salt on the fries instead of regular salt, my wife had the Big J's Chicken and Bacon Burger (Spicy).<br/><br/>Be warned it was a 30-40 min wait as the place was flat out, so if your keen to try, def phone your order through, then pick up. The burgers were massive, had some good flavours going on, cooked with some real passion, and great care was taken to assemble them. Chips were cooked well, and the aioli sauce is similar to the Burger Fuel one I thought. I would like to try the hot dogs next time, as it looks interesting. Also try one of their mini cheesecakes, if there are any left. They're delicious.

I thought it was finally time to see what all the hype was about! Heard so many things from people about this place. Came here for lunch on a weekday. Had to order well in advance on the phone. <br/><br/>I got the special burger which was the cajun chicken one. It was terrific, the chicken was juicy and the portions were very generous for the price you pay. The kumara wedges I got as well were so good. Very thick cut and the chilli aioli was very good as well. <br/><br/>Overall, in terms of burger quality it ranks up there with the 'gourmet burger' places around Auckland. However it's priced well below them which is its draw. The negatives however were the obscure location, which meant a long drive. Also the ridiculous wait times for this place means that you can't just drive in and order. Wait times vary from 45 minutes to over 2 hours!
Ā®-Ā®-Ā©hin....
Yep just had to try them after All the rave reviews..went on Saturday afternoon noon ordered cheese burger and vegie wrap plus some deepfrys with a few people waiting at that time.. was told the wait was 30m ( closer to 40 for us) we knew that was normal for this place..burger and wrap where of a good standard much better than any of the chain stores ..the deep frys where on the grease side but still tasty..will try again when we out this way ....<br/><br/>

Finally made it to big jays! Ordered a take away (called in advance and had a 30min wait) - fish burger for me and the bacon and egg for my partner. Fish burger was ok - a bit heavy with batter as well as bap. The real star was the bacon and egg - apparently "the perfect burger". Delicious, well seasoned meat and best of all, it didn't leak everywhere when taking a bite like too many burgers do! Chips were just ok but you don't really need them with these generous (and well priced!) burgers.

Well after hearing soo much about this place and seeing all the reviews, i just knew it had to be tried out! Especially because i love burgers!! We were sort of in the area on a friday around 7pm which we would soon realise was not a ideal time but we decided to drive there to give it a go and see what all the hype was! The location is really random and we thought we had taken a wrong turn at first haha! We pulled up and could smell the food and it smelt incredible! We walked in to be greeted by the young lad at the till and then he told us it was at least a 30min wait! We decided to sit and wait as we were not in a rush anyway! He advised us next time to call up before and order as it is constantly like that! We knew that meant they had to be good burgers! The prices are really cheap so had me worrying abit but you never know until you get the food i suppose! The amount of people that came in and out of this place within the half hour was crazy! The phone was constantly going and the workers didnt stop! Finally our names were called and i was soo hungry by this point! I had ordered chips and the special burger which has bacon, mushroom, cheese and onion aswell as salad! My partner had the egg and bacon burger with a side of sweet potato chips! Firstly the size of the chips werr decent! For $3 i got a massive bag so was really happy with that! The seasoning on them was lovepy aswell! I couldnt stop eating them haha! Then onto the main attraction..the burger! They are pretty big! The taste was amazing too! A generous sized pattie and lots of bacon, mushrooms and onions! It was defo worth the wait! My partner was equally loving his and we were both really full by the time we finished eating! I was super impressed with this place and its food! Obviously the only annoying thing is the wait but i will take the advice to call up before! I would 100% reccomend coming here for a good burger! Way better than alot of other burger places that charge you $16 just for a burger by itself!

I had a hot dog from there it was absolutely delicious and reasonable prices too. Will definitely be stopping there on the way to the beach. Great customer service too!

Big J's has the quintessential NZ 'Fush n' Chups' menu. But in the interest of keepin it šŸ’Æ I really have to speak on this: The wait times are hilarious! šŸ˜“šŸ˜‚ 1st attempt - 40 minutes, no thanks. <br/>2nd attempt - 2 hours, hellllllll no. 3rd time on 2.30pm Saturday - 1/2 hour... Well I guess I'll give it a shot. But geez, forecasting ability is nil or how about expansion/more staff? šŸ’”OK, so now I've eaten after wasting away, here's my take on Big Waits, I mean Big J's...<br/>Is the food good for the price point? ABSOLUTELY šŸ’µšŸ‘ Is it good in general? It's average to be honest. The guy that served me took a phone order ahead of me, while I stood there in the flesh šŸ˜¬ I don't know if he's a straight up uncooth ball bag šŸ˜‹ or if he hasn't been trained properly. I suspect the latter. Big J's is a unique place in the middle of some ghetto-ass suburb that's quite the novelty. You feel like you have stumbled across a hidden gem. If you live in the area and place an order 16 years in advance šŸ’¤ it's unbeatable value at this price point. Basically it's average fish n'chips at a fantastic price. Personally, I'm not travelling šŸš™ for this, but was fun to try it out due to all the rave reviews.
Faz
I really really enjoyed the food here, the burger I had was "The Special" it was amazing! The price even more amazing.<br/><br/>Why goto burger fuel and pay double where Big Js do for half the price and better! <br/><br/>Thank you very much!

Simply the Best Takeaway Bar in Auckland.... Magic burgers, amazing seafood and gotta love the chips n gravy <br/>Great Menu with excellent service A+++

There's a reason why this place is so popular - the burgers are delicious, they're big, and they're well priced!<br/><br/>Only problem is the slightly obscure location, but that's out of the scope of the review.<br/><br/>Would definitely recommend this place. :)<br/><br/>Food: 9/10<br/>Service: 4/5<br/>Ambience: 2.5/5<br/>Value: 5/5<br/>Overall: 20.5/25

Oh this place is always so busy! We couldn't get through on the phones so popped into the shop to place our order. We had fish burgers with snapper and chips. The chips were seasoned well, definitely one of my favourites and the burgers were full of flavour and filling will definitely be back on the regular :)
Adeline
Delicious burgers! I ordered the spicy chicken burger and it was really fresh. Cant wait to go back, especially since its so cheap ($8) for what you get!
Mat
Big J's takeaways serve some decent burgers . The burgers are gourmet and the potato fries that accompany the meal are absolutely delicious. I think it's the salt/pepper/lemon seasoning they use on them ā˜ŗļø I usually order the cheese burger as you can never go wrong with that order. Although I usually play it safe, I'm curious to try the other burgers on the menu... Perhaps I will do this during my next visit!<br/><br/>Overall, good prices and good burgers! HOWEVER, the waiting time is daunting, so I would suggest calling to order and allowing up to 20 -30 minutes before picking up...
Larissa Edwards
The burgers are amazing. Everyone we have taken has absolutely raved about it, the best part is that it is tucked away in the middle of no where so it feels like a cool experience. Definitely have to make sure you order in advance because it is always packed, for good reason.
Shyam Yerra
Great tasting burgers šŸ‘...love their weekly promotions and new burgers...service is good The only thing I don't like is to phone order and wait 30 mins for order to be ready for pick up...they are always busy i guess it because of their popularityšŸ˜€
Lucille Sia
Love their chicken burger and sweet potato wedge fries...service is good and proportions are big. Can get busy most nights so better call ahead of time to order. Highly recommended.
Prem C
Really good burgers. The sides kind of disappointed me as they are not on pat with quality like the burgers. So personally I go there every week to treat myself with a burger. Definitely gourmet.
Meg McGimpsey
Absolutely fantastic burgers. I've tried a fair few of their burgers and they've all been wonderful but i particularly recommend their steak burger with a side of gravy fries. Portion sizes are very generous and their burgers of the week are always appealing. Probably my favorite burger place in Auckland.
Hoori
I highly recommand their steak burger which is one of the best burger ever.the only probrem with this place is you need to wait about 30 minutes for your order which cost for that food.
Lee Marshall
Well, all I can really say is, it's true! I was sceptical to begin with - just couldn't imagine that a fish and chip shop in the middle of residential mt Wellington really could make the best burgers in Auckland, but it's definitely a champion! Such great flavour in the burger. Definitely worth trying, but either go mid afternoon of phone hours ahead... With all this popularity, maybe they should up-scale?? Will be back though.
Rohit Victor
The best Burger of my life! So disappointed that there is no dine-in and it is just a takeaway! This can be so much bigger! Quality of the food was 5/5, the time to make it is why this rating is only 4.5/5, all-in-all great place for a meal guaranteed to be better than Nandos/ Burger Fuel AND cheaper!!
Sukriti Bhatnagar
Patiently waited to try burgers from Big J's for way too long and it definitely exceeded my expectations! Ordered the kumara fries with chilli aioli, burger of the week which was chicken with salami and spicy chicken with extra mushrooms. Drool worthy pictures are attached below. Lovely customer service and the shop itself is tucked away in a residential area which only adds to the charm! Please don't change! I'm probably going to be a regular just like so many other people who recognise great quality food!

So far, the best burgers that I've had in Auckland.Ā I always go for the Big J's Special Burger. Juicy from the first bite to the last, and you'd always be left wanting more. And if you're in for some adventure, you can always let their chips+gravy join the party. Big J's will also keep you on your toes as they always give you different specialties with their Burgers of the Week. To sum this one up, you know you're going to have a good day when you have Big J's.

We were here around 730 last night and was a bit skeptical with the ratings as there are no queue with just 1 table of youngsters. When we approach the counter to make an order, was surprise there is a long waiting list which we need to wait for 1-1.5 hrs. Initially we thought it was a joke, but it wasn't there was a long list of take away orders. We ask for exception and was said no exception. Spoken to the owner, considering we came a long way here, and there is a small slot in between to make some burgers as someone seems to have cancelled their orders, we have been given a 30mins waiting slot. So bless and we ordered the famous the spicy chicken burger and super steak recommended by the counter staff. the chicken come with 1 of the most spicy sauce that I have tasted. High quality take away, good service, excellent burgers. Well deserved to be #1 burger in Auckland. Highly recommended.
Dallace Wulf
Best takeaways in Auckland. I've had the spicy chicken and bacon burger and WOW. So tasty and fresh! The fried food is delicious as well; fresh and not frozen. Service is always friendly. They do get super busy tho so I'd recommend to call ahead and order to avoid a 40min wait
Winnie Luo
No doubt the BEST takeaway in Auckland!<br/><br/>First time trying their burgers and wow they definitely blew my mind! <br/><br/>I had a super steak burger which came with pretty much all the good things in a burger you can ever want and the best thing about it, the steak was all nicely cut up for you! The burger was not drenched like your typical "gourmet" burgers. There is nothing bad I can say about it. Partner ordered the bacon and egg burger which was the real deal as well! <br/><br/>The burgers were so good that we ate it all before we could take any photos of how magnificent the burgers actually looked.<br/><br/>The fish and chips were also amazing! Not too oily and perfectly cooked! <br/><br/>Cheap prices but the quality of the food is way beyond what you would expect from a takeaway. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but you definitely would not regret making the choice to go in and indulge in some delicious goodness!<br/><br/>I would definitely come back and try more things on the menu!
Doreen Milo
We finally got our hands on one of the best burger joints in Auckland! For $21 we got the Chicken bacon burger and the super steak burger with sweet potato wedges. <br/>The wedges were yum and crispy. The flavour combos in the burgers were so good, especially the sauce in the super steak burger. <br/>Awesome customer service! Definitely going back! :)<br/>

My colleagues and I decided to order a few takeaway menus for lunch from work. I have heard MANY great reviews about this place and heard that orders must be put 2 hours in advance in order to get your meal on time. WIth HIGH expectations, I ordered the cheeseburger and the hotdog. I believe that ordering the simplest of menus can sometimes truly distinguish a great restaurant. Because I actually didnt dine here, I can not review their service. However, all of their items are quite affordable which is a big PLUS. The cheese burger was juicy with the pattie being well cooked and seasoned. The salads were crips and fresh with the overall burger being a GREAT value for money. The hotdog on the other hand was EXTREMELY average. My friends ordered the gravy and chips which wasn't as good as we expected. The chips were TASTY which were crispy and delicious but the gravy was not exactly what we expected it to be. I think ordering chips on their own would be a better alternative. Overall, their food is good and price affordable...Will definately try here a few more times at work.
Fare Henry
Absolutely delicious and affordable! Good service every time. I love that there is a good selection of foodĀ includingĀ seasoning for fries. The bacon potato salad is definitely one of my faves and<br/>the gourmetĀ burgers areĀ cheap and delish! Great value for money :)

Experienced one of their (weekly) limited edition burgers, which I think was the spicy peppercorn steak? <br/><br/>To be fair, true to it's name it was definitely spicy ... But not the pleasant spicy I'm always keen to try, it was so overpowering that I threw out the burger after 3 bites because it actually made the burger taste disgusting. The sauce was fine to deal with but the over dose of the peppercorn on the steak ruined a good piece of meat. <br/><br/>Sarah Reynolds #challenge

Went in to try what people are calling the best burgers in Auckland. I ordered the Special (Beef, Bacon, Cheese and Mushroom) for $8, which is very affordable for what you get. <br/><br/>The burger wasn't anything to rave about. Burger was a bit dry and lacked sauce. I also found the bacon really crunchy. Big J's is a little over-hyped, which may have raised my expectations but have definitely had better local burgers.<br/><br/>If you do decide going, I suggest pre-ordering your meal as it takes 25-35mins for your Burger to be made. Will be back if I'm ever in the area but not worth the trip from the shore.<br/><br/>

If you like burgers do yourself a favor and go. The burgers are extremely generous in size an the flavors are killer. This place is a hidden gem if there ever was one

After reading most reviews on this place i finally decided to give it a try and i sure enough like every other raving reviews big j's did not dissapoint!<br/>I ordered the bacon&egg burger it was massive! Juicy homemade patty, fresh salad and homemade sauce it was divine. We also ordered a scoop of fries for $3 which was a perfect portion for two people. I must admit i was a little surprised when we pulled upto big j's as it was just about to open and we kinda thought we were at the wrong place due to its location kos we kinda expected it to be in a busy area with all its many reviews but hey we're glad we stuck around!<br/>Also the staff were lovely with efficient service thankyou, will definitley be coming back:)

After reading all the comments and raves about this hidden little takeaway shop, I knew I HAD to try it out for myself to see if burgers this cheap could actually pack such a good flavour; and I have to admit it exceeded my expectations!Ā <br/><br/>We'rd arrived there at around 2:15 pm, but there was STILL a line of orders waiting before ours (around seven) which I thought was cray cray! We opted for the Big J's special burger and the spicy chicken and bacon burger and was told it would be a 20 minute wait, and it actually was :D We sat on one of the tiny tables outside ( only three tables available) and tucked into our burgers. With juices and sauce dripping down our hands, these burgers were not the tidiest meals to eat but boy were they tasty!Ā <br/><br/>Special burger- we chose this burger mainly because of the mushrooms, however as a mushroom burger itself it wasnt that great but as a standard beef burger ( and for only $8), it was super tasty and the patty was perfectly moist. 4/5<br/><br/>Chicken and bacon burger, spicy- THIS, was the star for me. The chicken was surprisingly moist and tasty, and the bacon wasnt just all fat like what I expected from such a cheap burger + the sauce with the burger was so goood and gave an extra kick. Would definitely reccomend this burger ! 5/5<br/><br/>I'd reccomend Big J's to anyone who's craving a good big burger without hurting their bank accounts. Although the wait can be quite long, it's definitely worth it. p.s. the guy at the counter was extremely friendly too and was surprising calm under the amount of pressure from the storm of burger lovers. Would definitely return :)

Always good value. Good sized burgers with plenty of fillings and sauces. Get the gravy with the fries.Ā <br/>They are popular for a very good reason. Best to phone in your order as an hour wait is not uncommon due to popularity. It is worth the wait.<br/>Don't bother with the other tryhard burger joints. This is a simple takeaway shop with the right people making good honest burgers.<br/>The only reason I haven't given them a 5 is my wife makes the best burgers. See pictures below.

Awesome!! Got the burger of the week and a bacon&egg burger. Fries were made nice golden and crispy. Wait time was reasonable.
Britney Beeby
Super unimpressed. I have had better burgers at Burger Fuel.<br/>I had the cheese burger and my fiancƩ had the fish burger.<br/>We both agreed that we definitely won't be going back.<br/>My patty had a falafel sort of taste to it - almost as if Indian spices were used to make it...?<br/>We ordered chips and "chicken tenderS" - there was only on chicken tender in our wrapped up stack of food when we got home. The chips were oily and soggy.<br/><br/>Definitely not worth driving out of the city for.
J.T547
Yum!! The burgers are so delicious and amazing value for money. I would definitely recommend and will be back for sure. A great local joint for burgers! There is definitely a reason why this place is so popular.
Me&AucklandFood
Did not mind waiting for almost an hour for my order because of the excitement and hype surrounding this place however the burger I orderd tasted pretty average but the fries were amazing. Not as amazing as people said it would be though.
Simone Halstead
This places has high ratings and rightly so! Been back a few times and am a huge fan of the spicy chicken with bacon burger. One of the tastiest chicken burgers and is cheap and fresh. Will continue to return.

Big J's deserves the best burger listings - the patty is charred perfectly, herby & delicious. They give you tons of salad on the burger too. Everything is fresh, we get their cheeseburgers often - great price - last time mine came without aioli and I was really disappointed because that's the best bit, it's amazing. Burger was still good, we'll be back. Definitely call ahead - can be 30-60mins waiting time.
Angela Reys
I've been always craving for a nice fish burger. My man recommended this place we gathered the bros together to make a order.<br/><br/>They are really busy, so we have to call in advance to book.<br/><br/>We arrived and waited for our burger. Very friendly staff. The menu caters different diet also!<br/><br/>Yes, my fish burger cook to perfection! They are generous with the ingredients choices too.<br/><br/>Definitely going back to try out other burgers!
Jonathan Towers
I visited this place a week ago... The burgers are good... Great value for money... But.. I personally like the white lady in new market better... I don't like the way there fish is cooked.. But I guess everyone raves about the burgers and not the fish. Or chips .... Its worth a go... I will be going back... But I won't order any chips or fish... .. I maybe a little fussy... But this is my opinion ..

I had to check the place. It's been on top of the list as the best and am intrigued by all the write ups. I ordered the special burger - prime beef pattie bacon saute mushrooms and cheddar and kumara wedges. Every bite is good a bit messy eat though. Love what I had will try to go back and try another.
Edmond Shen
Definitely one of the best places to grab a burger thats worth every penny. Their burger of the week is something that should not be missed, let's you try something you usually wouldn't at a great price and trust me you won't be disappointed!
Hine
This place is AWESOME! Everything I've tried there so far has been on point. Punished the wasteline by eating their burgers of the week every week for two months hahaha! But their burgers on their set menu are good too. Squid rings are great and so are their chips.
Tania Dawson
Best burgers in town! Always rely on fresh generous burgers. My favourite burger is the chicken and bacon burger and my partner loves the egg burger and super steak. Only problem is that this place needs to be bigger and have more staff to meet their high demand. Recommend calling and ordering first. The wait is always worth it though

I was expecting a large dine in kinda takeaway burger place. But it was literally just a takeaway shop really. With the best menu and best customer service. <br/>The guy talked us through everything, told us what was really good and gave us a little menu to takeaway with is, really nice friendly dude. I got a crispy chicken wrap which I gotta say was pretty freaking good, I wasn't too sure about the actual chicken though I thought it seemed a bit kinda mcdonaldish like it had come from a packet and already deep fried and that and they had just re heated and cooked it. It was to perfectly shaped and not real looking enough. Didn't have too many veges in it either but it was satisfying and pretty good. <br/>My boyfriend had a plum chicken burger, I had a bite and man that was good, the chicken looked totally 100% real too and not like packet chicken nuggets. Was a really big decent burger. I would definelty get a burger next time. <br/>I would say if they could maybe make the place a bit nicer inside like a few tables and chairs and that which were nicely set out and they would proberbly get more service for lunch and that. I know it's called big js TAKEAWAYS but I would really like to sit and eat my deliousliy yummy food inside there instead of the scummy wobbly table outside the door for lunch. <br/>Will be back for a takeaway burger though

I don't quite understand the hype surrounding Big J's. Maybe we just ordered the wrong burgers?<br/>I had the special of the week burger - chicken, plum sauce, bacon & camembert. The burger was good overall - tasty, chicken was cooked perfectly. However, I found the bacon to be of low quality (perhaps I'm just fussy about my bacon) & it was all at one end of the burger, rather than distributed throughout. Overall I thought $12 was a bit pricey considering the quality of ingredients & size (it was pretty small for the price).<br/>My mum had the steak burger & was even less impressed than I was. She prefers Burger Queen, which is lucky for her as it's our local.<br/>The kumara wedges were nice (a mix of chips & wedges) as were the aioli & spicy aioli. <br/>Service was also good.<br/>Just a tip, check out the menu here on Zomato & phone order. Big J's are very popular, so wait times are long.
Tepaki Hewett
This is definitely one takeaway joint you must hit up! The blackboardĀ burgers are just so Oh-riginal...and apartĀ from having sloppy rounded beetroot in your burger try it with the sloppy beetroot relish -Ā man its just so good for you - would also recommend kumara chips with some of their homemade aioli on the side.If you catch them at the right time, you can usually avoid the queues but as most have saidĀ your best tooĀ call ahead!

AMAZING!!<br/>Came here as we saw it was one of the top rated places to eat in Auckland and it's not wrong. What a place! Cheap, delicious food! Will definitely be back!!
Marcella
Finally had the chance to try this place out last night and I can see how this place got all the hype and glory.<br/><br/>The super steak and plum chicken burgers that we got were succulent and delicious. They were a bit messy to eat, but who cares! The only let down was probably the buns as they could've toasted them longer and on both sides. The sweet potato wedges were crunchy and sweet and to die for. The potato fritters on the other hand were average. <br/><br/>If you're craving some good burgers than the old burger fuel/ mcds, this place is definitely worth the drive. I'd recommend calling ahead to avoid a lengthy wait though :)
Crumpet King
PRO TIP: Pre-order your meal well before peak times. Why? Because everyman and his dog will have already placed an order before you. Aucklanders love this joint! ...The people aren't raving just 'cos.<br/><br/>This place is fresh at its best, and there's heaps on the menu! The fish is amazing, so if you swing that way definitely go with the snapper burger. YUM. These guys know how to make a fantastic light n crispy batter!<br/><br/>Big Ups Big J! Keep doing what you do best and I'll be back to try some of your homemade trifle soon! ( if anyone's tried it, let me know what you think!)<br/><br/>
Table For Two
Amazing!! Love this place. Great burgers at great prices!! Make sure you phone in 1hr and a half before you want to pick it up - a sure sign they are worth the wait!! Onion rings a must!
Kai Mai
Definitely deserves the tag of Aucklands best burgers. Not too overpriced for the quality of food produced. We had a 20min wait on our food which was worth it. Will definitely recommend to all. Will be back for sure.
Charlie Wu
I'm not entirely sure why I need to even write a review for this place. The people have spoken and this place is a national treasure. I'm just happy I was there at the beginning, before the 45+ minute wait time, back when you could actually show up without a phone order and leave within 20 minutes with a kickass burger and fries. Actually, that's about all you can fault Big Js for. They're too damn popular.
Lauren Cluff
The best burgers in town. I ring in to order and then go and collect it. I can't wait until I get home I crack open the chips and devour them and then the burger while its still hot. The burgers are very tasty. I normally get the fish burger or the ever changing burger of the week. Thanks team!
Hannah
Came here on a busy Saturday night, which meant a half-hour wait for orders (which was fine as they let us know straight away before ordering). Staff were very friendly (even while trying to juggle phone orders at the same time as attending to the line of customers). We ordered the burger of the week which was the Portobello Chicken (crumbed chicken breast, camembert cheese, sauteed onions, streaky bacon, creamy mushroom sauce, aioli, fancy lettuce & tomato), chips with gravy, sweet potato wedges and onion rings. The burger was SO good - everything cooked well (nice crispy chicken & bacon, delicious melty camembert and really tasty mushroom sauce) - just had everything I like in a burger. The wedges were also very good (go so well with aioli) and the chips cooked really nicely (not undercooked, nice and crispy), and the gravy was thick and really delicious! The onion rings were battered (like the batter used on fish), huge, and soo tasty - we will definitely be back for more :)
Paul George
Went to this place yesterday very much enjoyed my burger steak burger and fries. Had to order ahead 45mins but was well worth it. Only thing is the steak could've been sliced up more as I had to tear through it and had bits falling out of my burger.

Thought the reviews for this place couldnt be as good as they say, so I decided to try this place out for lunch today. About a 20 minute drive to this place. We arrived not long after 12, the place was pretty empty which we thought was good. Ordered the Portobello Chicken and Snapper Burger. They advised us the wait would be about half n hour which we didnt mind. Shortly after the place startef filling quickly with customers. We ended up asking to add the Vegetarian burger halfway through our wait which they said would be fine. We got our food and. . . . . . the burgers are as good as everyone says they are šŸ˜‰. The vegetarian burger was Delicious, best burger ive had by far. My partner kept goin on about how good the portobello chicken burger was, and how crisp the bacon was and how yummy the mushrooms were and how good it tasted all together. We will definately be back here.
Bradley Whitehead
By far the best burgers I've ever had and no surprise they have been voted number 1 in Auckland again.<br/>Anybody looking for a good burger needs to visit and make sure you try the special burger of the week.
Oliver Samin
I was quite intrigued by all the reviews I've read about this takeaway, I just had to try their burger. 8 pm on a drizzly Thursday night and the place was still busy..I ordered 3 special burgers and a chicken and portabello mushroom burger for take-away. I was advised of a 30-minute wait for my order, but I said 'OK' hoping the taste better be worth the wait. 830 pm and I got my order as promised. I got home within 10 minutes and the burgers were still warm. My 3 teenage sons already had dinner earlier but I asked them if they would like to try these "new burgers". They knew nothing of Big J's burgers but all I heard from them were "good!" ,"yum", "great" !!! I totally agree with their verdict! The buns were nice and soft, the vegies were fresh, the bacon strips were crisp and crunchy, and the meat patties were well cooked and juicy. I would go back there and try their chips and other burgers next time with my wife.
Joseph Gallagher
Big J's is hands down the best fish chips and burgers in Auckland. Nowhere is too far away to go to big J's. The burger of the week will constantly blow me away with the consistent super high quality and creativity. The chips are on point and the gravy will wreck you. If you have not been drop what you are doing now and go there, just go please you owe it to yourself.
Phil
Awesome burger!! I love their special burger and the beef chimichanga. Price is reasonable and great quality. Look out for their weekly special burger. A great weekly specials for me and a few friends to catch up over a round of big j's run.

Went with my partner for the 1st time.I must say the wait was worth it and definitely will be back...The price is unbelievable affordable.Ever had food that leaves u happy? l mean literary happy? Go for Big J's and u wont go wrong:-) <br/>
Emma Magee
Came here for a first date and have been coming back regularly ever since! very delicious and very friendly staff. My favourites been the Caesar style burger of the week, fingers crossed it makes a return :)
Cheesyweesy
Their highly praised reviews are all, well deserved! Big J's has got hospitality down to a tee. Pleasantly surprising for a 'suburban' takeaway joint!<br/><br/>I ordered Snapper and a scoop of chips with garlic salt. One scoop can definitely feed two! The snapper was done VERY well, fresh fish makes all the difference. Normally I discard batter as I hate its gluggy interior. BUT NOT TODAY!!! I ate the lot! These guys really know how to make a good batch of fish n chips!<br/><br/>Because it was my first visit, the guy behind the counter gave me a menu to take with me. He advised me if I come in on s weekend to make a phone order to avoid a lengthy wait. Thanks for the pro tip Big J's. You have made a fan out of me!!! ?

So I'm another that heard the hype and have been here twice now .. Yes the wait is long but holy chilli aioli batman- it's yum! <br/>I have the fish burger ( terakihi or snapper) and my partner gets the steak , and we get a scoop of chips each- mine with garlic salt and He gets lemon pepper. Lovin the chips, not greasy or over cooked and a good dust of the salt. I usually scoff these and can't finish the burger! Burger has fantastically cooked fish and salad etc and what I love is that the buns are so soft and not too thick! <br/>I get the chilli aioli which is my fave. So yeah- check it out! <br/>I wish my stomach was bigger so I could finish that burger !! <br/>We are usually out and do a phone order and go pick up which works for us . Staff look hot and busy - but give great consistent service which I think is a great sign. Keep it coming!<br/>Oh man- forgot to say for both of us it was under $25 bucks and I was stuffed!! Niiice

Came in a couple weeks ago on a Friday night after a day of uni. Had heard all about the hype, how good it was and how there is usually a super long wait. Took the risk of walk in ordering and it was an hour and a half wait for burgers, dang it lol. Ordered burgers, then separately chips for the meantime. Chips were ready at a swift 5min pace. A choice of garlic, chicken or rock salts were given. Our chicken salted chips were cooked to perfection, crispy, fluffy and not over salted. 10/10 for chips.<br/><br/>Arrived back at exactly a hour and a half later and burgers were ready. Ohhh they did not disappoint! Worth the wait, delicious and well filling. I got the special chicken burger which I was so happy about after taste test! Bun slightly toasted but mainly soft which suited the burger containing Brie cheese, cranberry chutney? And juicy chicken breast. Would definitely recommend to others! Prime beef burger with bacon was a hit with friends who came too!<br/><br/>Friendly workers, high workload but still keeping the quality at a premium standard! Love how they take the small fishnchip shop image to a whole new level of super quality food but still at a normal fishnchip price. Keep doing it the way you's are. Will for sure take others to experience the food! I recommend ordering over phone though so you're not double-tracking. Not much room to sit and eat there too, more suitable for take-away as most fishnchip shops ?
Nathan Lewis
Can't stop coming here for their delicious weekly-rotating burgers. Every single time I leave with no regrets what so ever. The food always tastes fresh, always flavours that work together. It's no wonder they were rated in the top 5 burger joints in New Zealand.

After reading all the positive reviews here, I had big expectation of this burger joint. However these expectations were not meet. It was a thursday afternoon and I only had to work half day so I thought I will give this famous burger place a try. The place didnt look that busy, but I had to wait for 1.5 hours for my burgers to be made. It sort of my fault for not ordering it first on the phone. But 1.5 hours!!! is still a ridiculously long time. When I got my burger IĀ was hopingĀ the tastiest of the burger will be directly porportional to the waiting time. Unfortunately it was inversely porportional :(. I ordered 4 burgers 2 for myself and 2 for my brother. 3 out of 4 of the burger was really burnt. I know it suppose to be flame grilled but "come on" half the burger meat wasĀ really burn and have 'charcoal' taste. Even the burger bunsĀ were burnt. All I can say it that theĀ burgersĀ were quite big and the price is very reasonable, if not slightly on the cheap side. But the taste of the burgers were quite a let down. Dont think I will go there again. At least not any time soon.
Manic Wookie
This is by far the best burger place I've ever been to. I would recommend the burger of the week every time because it's always different and you'll never see it anywhere else. You should definitely call in your order first waiting time is 20 mins. Even more on busy nights
Josh Law
Best burger place I've ever been to. Friendly staff, creative burgers, good value and located in an unassuming place. Only downside is that they are sometimes so busy you have to wait an hour for food. Not their fault that they're successful. Easy to ring ahead and order beforehand.
Dommonique
I just can't fault this place. It's a classic kiwi burger joint, it's not fancy like burger Wisconsin or burger burger it's just classic kiwi takeaways done to perfection. I recommend trying the burger of the week it never ceases to amaze me.
Emma Grey
Yummy yummy burgers! Never disappoints. Spicy chicken and bacon burger is my go to! Onion rings are also amazing - best around. Chips and gravy yummy too. IT'S ALL YUMMY!!!
LucyGoosey
After reading all the great reviews this place has, I had to try it for myself. I was not at all disappointed. The burgers here are very tasty. I had the cheese burger and added pineapple. You can make a combo buy paying $3.50; Ā you will get a small chips and small drink to go with your delicious burger. I think they use Mr Chips, yum :) They also ask what kind of seasoning you would like on the chips and their garlic aioli isĀ delicious. The service here is really friendly and we didn't wait long for our burgers to be ready. My only issue was the burger pattie. It was really nice but it tasted a bit like beef mixed with falafel and seemed to have had some Indian spices mixed in. Nevertheless, it was still a damn fine burger. This place is definitely worth a trip to Mt Wellington if you don't live in the area; the people who live close by are very lucky to have this as their local.
Hannah K
Such delicious burgers! I suggest trying the burger of the week, this week I had the Chicken Parmigiana and it was so yum I couldn't fault it, the homemade tomato herb sauce was so tasty, I haven't had the fish & chips so can't comment but it is always busy and I can see why
Fries With That
Funky eat in establishment - it is not!!<br/>Latest hip food outlet packed amongst the trending suburban strip - it is not!!!<br/><br/>What Big J's Takeaways is, is exactly that, "a takeaway"! After reading all the reviews and marveling at the high rating on Zomato I have been trying to get to this place for months, yesterday was the day, it was worth the wait. I chose the "special" chicken parmigiano burger, amazing flavour and not stuffed too high you can't get your mouth around it. Chips were the standard McCains cut you get at most chippees, but cooked to perfection, just the right amount of salt and crunchy ones included. I sometimes daydream of giving up my day job and buying a run down takeway and turning it to mega hit by doing everything as best as it can be done. If I was the owner/cook of Big J's I would being saying "I have made it", successfully the best burger outlet in Auckland!!!!.
Melissa Pana
Just amazing...burgers are delicious. Definitely something special. I had the steak burger and was pleasantly surprised about how filling it was but I still wanted more :-)
Vanisha Patel
Whoa! Exactly what I expected! I had been told about Big J's and so I needed to go! I got to the little takeaway joint with a group of friends. The service was go, go, go as these guys are pretty busy. Even so, the lass that served us was very friendly and onto it, ensuring our order was grouped together so it all came out at the same time. I ordered a "Special" burger: beef, cheese, mushrooms, bacon: DELICIOUSNESS. I also got some onion rings that were kick ass. My friends also got a selection of burgers and chips and gravy. I'm not normally a fan of chips and gravy but boy did this gravy pack a punch with flavour and the consistency worked well with the chips. All I can say, is that I'm glad this place isn't too close to home or I'd definitely be putting weight on!
Chloe-Mae
Iv had to down my review. Yes this place is yum, yes this place is cheap. But I ate a chicken burger ( I dot. Eat bacon) only option was the chicken bacon burger. They could<br/>Do just a chicken with no bacon but wouldn't swap it for a vege... so had to minus the bacon and pay extra for jelepenos. It is no extra cost to business no extra work so why charge us extra ? Most places I go ( I am super fussy swap food out a lot) don't charge have. It come across this and we go eat out ALOT.

Best Burgers in Auckland. No doubt.Ā Weekly Gourmet burgers are a treat. Very accommodating. The wait is the only negative, but its worth it.
Super(ļ½„_ļ½„;Phoebe
Big J is a fabulous burger joint that tucked away in Mt Wellington. I can't express how much I liked this small take-away. The other day I came here ordered a fish burger and a special beef burger. The burgers bring a wow effect to me and my boyfriend. Their battered fish taste extraordinarily fresh, crispy and soft inside. I also had a bite of my bf's beef one which was amazing as well. I'm a super fan when it comes to homemade sauce, homemade patties and homemade buns instead of frozen ones or mass produced ones that you can easily find in supermarket. So Big J is perfect for me and I'd like to highly recommend this burger joint to anyone who hasn't already been there. I really appreciate the chef's work and will try their homemade dessert and hotdogs in the future.

Oh wow, I can't believe I was so late to this "kick-ass" burger! After reading reviews, seeing it under the burger collections on Zomato and hearing how good it is, I finally gave in and went for it. I ordered the Special Burger and my friend ordered the Super Steak burger with fries and aioli (we were super hungry). <br/> <br/>We did have to wait for 20minutes, but I thought, if the burger tastes good, it must take some time. I believe it came out in 15mins. So I was happy with that. The service was friendly.<br/><br/>First bite- amazing. The burger had the factors contributing to a good burger, the beef was not dry or too oily and had a good amount of juice to it. The veges just topped it off. It was highly filling and really good prices. My friend was also enjoyed the burger and was tempted to come back to this place again! <br/><br/>One thing to comment is the burger was on a salty side? Maybe cut down on the salt slightly- or I'll ask next time I go.
Tessa
Great service. Perfect simple burgers the way they should be and great value. Chips were great and good value.<br/><br/>A selection of salts for your chips too! How impressive for a place on a suburban street!
Comestible Consultancy
FIRST IMPRESSION: Small-time burger joint in the suburbs.<br/>SECOND IMPRESSION: You'll feel like you're in a secret club knowing about this gem. That's part of what makes it so good.<br/>SEATING: Takeaways<br/>ORDERING: Called to order (the wait was over half an hour on a Saturday night!) so I strongly advise that.<br/>COFFEE: Not ordered.<br/>FOOD: Fresh, high quality ingredients and keeping it simple makes this food so tasty and satisfying. Disappointment won't be an issue.<br/>PRICE: On par with MacDonalds or Burger King but far far greater quality. Puts Burger Fuel to shame.<br/><br/>OVERALL: I will return religiously.

Big J's never fails to please, hidden in a quiet street in Mt Wgtn (But not too far from Sylvia Park).. The staff are always lovely, and the food is amazing, I must admit to being dubious the first time someone recommended me this place. The prices are great for what you are getting, We always phone ahead as it's not "fast" in a traditional fish n chip shop sense but it is well worth the wait - you will not find a better burger in Auckland no matter what your tastes are the tantalizing fare from Big J's will not disappoint your palate.
Ingaa Pahulu
I had the special burger & my partner had the super steak burger. Such yummy burgers.. I scoop of chips enough to share. So glad we discovered big j's. Will be visiting them more often..<br/><br/>Just wished they had a bigger dining place & a better looking shop . But whatever their burgers are the ishh

The hamburger. Done well, it's a thing of beauty, but done badly ... well, we've all had our share of bad burgers, right? I like to think of myself as a bit of a burger aficionado, so when I read a food blog a month or so back naming Big J's as the best burger place in Auckland, I was sceptical. a) Why hadn't I heard of it, and b) Mt. Wellington? Really? Turns out Big J's actually is the best burger I've eaten in Auckland, which also makes it the best burger in New Zealand. There's nothing fancy here - an unassuming "local" takeaway place tucked away in the back streets of Mt. Wellington - but the burgers and fries really are to die for. Handmade patties, high quality salad ingredients, perfectly flavoured sauces made by a guy who really cares about and takes pride in great burgers. Forget ya Burger Fuels and ya Burger Wisconsins - Big J's is tastier (and waaaay cheaper) their chips are better and their service is friendlier. Seriously, if you live remotely near the Eastern suburbs, it's worth your while to avoid the suburban strip mall and head into the depth of Mt. Wellington. My three favourite burger chains are all in the US - In-N-Out Burger on the West Coast, Five Guys Burger and Fries (also Obama's favourite burger) on the East Coast, and Shake Shack in New York City. None of these places make particularly fancy burgers ... just generously sized and tasty burgers made with care, using high quality ingredients. Big J's is completely at home in my pantheon of burgers. Jason is a true burger artisan - this isn't just throwaway fast food for him - his burgers are small, perfectly formed works of art.
Gregleet
Great food. Definitely worth the drive. My burger was the weekly special. Not bad chips either. All very tasty and so fresh. Hard to find such a good burger
Rochae Slattery-Holtz
This place has such good , always fresh tasting full of flavour and they always have new items to try never had a bad meal from there and I only live 5mins away

Big J's is a little takeaway shop on a unassuming street in Mt Wellington. We arrived around 8pm to a crowd of people waiting outside for their orders. When we made our way to the counter we were told it'd be a 30mins wait - we we willing to wait, but if you're hungry it would pay to call in to make your order. I had the snapper burger and the Mr had the beef streaker, we also shared a scoop of chips with garlic salt. The burgers are legendary! Buns are lightly toasted, amazing flavours, ridiculously large burgers - this is easily one of the best gourmet burger joints in Auckland. The chips were good, but they weren't as crispy or golden as I like. My personal preference would've been for the chips to be fried a little longer. The star of the show though are the burgers...I'm salivating just thinking about them. I'll definitely be back!
Sophia O-W
Went to Big J's to find out what all the hype was about... was absolutely worth it! After great service from the team, I ordered the steak burger. This was full of flavour from the smokey bacon, fresh lettuce, caramelised onions and tender steak all between lightly crisp buns. On the side I had some of their sweet potato wedges, although covered with salt, the sweet-and-salty combination was perfectly cooked and I savoured every last bite. Definitely try out their burgers of the week and get the wedges. This is probably one of the best burger places around that gives amazing quality for a reasonable price!
Daniel
Great portions. Great value. Great tastes. Big J's tends to be a messy eat but when you accept this as part of the experience you'll find yourself craving that garlic/herb marinated steak. Big J's ultimately achieves something bigger than just good food and that is standing out in a sea of sub par chain restaurants that offer little more than convenience.
Josh Holder Isa'ako
Awesome service, awesome burgers. Place was busy when I arrived. The server was very friendly and helpful. Will not go any to any other burger joint now.. loved it.
Madicattt
Big J's make the best burgers ever. <br/><br/>On the surface, this place looks like your average takeaway but it's really not. <br/><br/>The burgers are all insanely delicious. Packed with flavour and a bit of creative love. The burgers of the week.... Ridiculous. Absolute masterpieces designed around a theme. Check out their Facebook page to see what they're offering this week. <br/><br/>The best bit? The price. Last night I had a fish burger. It was ridiculously good and only $8. One of the boys had the special, Garlic and herb marinated steak with grilled bacon, sautƩed onions, aioli, vintage cheddar cheese and coleslaw. For $10. How is that even possible. That is insane. <br/><br/>Big J's. I love you.
Kenji
Great burgers!!Ā <br/>Huge burgers and this place lives up to its hype!Ā <br/>Burgers are the greasy kind but taste amazing and are HUGE for a fair price. So if your looking for a gourmet burger then this is probably not the place.<br/><br/>Price wise its awesome, about $9 per burger.Ā <br/><br/>The outside of the shop could do with some work, when I got there I thought I was in the wrong place. The shop looks like a fish and chips shop but once your inside your in another zone.<br/><br/>Totally work the buck! Would recommend to anyone!<br/><br/>p.s Friday and Sat Nights are busy are hell, waiting time is 40min so either call ahead or order and take a stroll to Sylvia park.
Where.iate
Cheap, easy to get to location, huge (and TASTY) burgers!<br/><br/>The kumera fries and deep fried mussells are my favourite as well!<br/><br/>Definitely recommend for a quick and simple dinner (or lunch).<br/><br/>Don't let the exterior fool you!
Jamez Hill III
Definitely lives upto the hype. They really try and make a great burger. I would say it is better than burger fuel and equal with chargrills burgers. Very tasty both chicken and beef burgers. Sumtimes off balance which is the only let down i have. The chips are tasty with various salts, all of which are good. Best part is all burgers are under 12 dollars! Value for money and quality, u cant beat big j's
Daniel Joss Takaiti
Best burgers ever best desserts for a takeaway joint. There home made Passionfurit chessecake is the best around. Definitely recommend to others for the best burgers

Omnomnom, I'm now in a food coma thanks to a Special burger and a side of chips. Delicious! Juicy beef patties, tasty condiments, and a nice bit of lettuce and tomato so you don't feel so bad about burgers for dinner.<br/>Only half hour wait and phoned in our order. So half the time was getting there. Worth the drive in the rain for sure! Will be having it again.

Heard good things about Big J's and finally decided to give it a shot. After going there, it was easy to see what all the rave was about.<br/><br/>The only problem was that there was a long wait but that's to be expected since it was dinner time.<br/><br/>They are very generous with the portions and for the price we paid, we felt it was a bargain. The staff were very friendly and patient because I took ages to order.<br/><br/>Best of all, the food was effing delicious. While I munched on my scrumptious burger, I felt my taste buds tingle, while my salivary glands erupted to lubricate my mouth as to make sure I don't choke while I wolfed the bad boy down. I kept wishing the burger would never end. Kind of like how I feel every time I watch a Quintin Tarantino movie.<br/><br/>Anyways, awesome place, great staff, great good, great prices. If only there were open 24/7, dem bergurs wuld b da shizz tyms a trillion at 3 in da mornin.<br/><br/>

Great value! I love it. Burgers are very big and tastes are very good. The point is that it's cheaper compared to others'. My boyfriend and my brother like it!

14 minutes is an agonizingly long time when you're waiting to eat a Big J's burger, but that's exactly how long it took me to drive home. Sunday lunch has been a bit hit and miss recently. Not today. WOW! What else can I say? A great experience from being served at the counter to the last bite of my delicious cheese burger. Unanimous thumbs up and licked lips from the rest of the household too. The burger was beautifully textured, the patty soft inside grilled perfectly outside, the salad fresh and crisp and the bun was toasted just enough to firm it up so you could hold the burger with authority. We also enjoyed a spring roll, I'm not the worlds biggest fan of spring rolls but this suprised me. Crispy pastry wrapped a generous amount of mince and shredded cabbage. Really very tasty and easily a meal in itself. I would like to say thanks to the staff of Big J's for the polite, prompt service, extremely reasonable prices and not least the delicious food. 5 star burger joint without question.

The best burger in Auckland! :) Love their chimichanga as well. For the quality of their food, the price is not bad. I just hope there's Big J's near the CBD or near our place. :)

Big J's are the best burgers in the city. Handled with love and care, juicy patties, generous and crisp salad and soft perky buns. Burger of the week never fails to keep you interested, too
Stephen Thomson
There has to be a reason why they won best burgers. Always have a burger of the week and always something new to tingle your taste buds. You need to look on facebook to see burger of the week.
Kevin McCutcheon
Ohh god yes, this is my favourite place in Auckland to eat burgers. Best burgers in Auckland hands down, price is very reasonable also. Need to take my flatmates

Drove to Big J's from Massey (about a 25 minute drive) after reading about their burgers online. Upon arriving we were told that there is a 40 minute wait on the burgers - to say the least I was annoyed but I thought "F it, I made it this far I might as well stick it out"<br/><br/>Boy am I glad I did. After the painful 40 minute wait I was handed what to this day is probably the best juiciest fatty burger I have ever had! <br/><br/>I am not big on fatty take away foods nowadays as I enjoy healthy whole foods more but this is a definite must try! Patty was soft and juicy, bacon delicious, buns were warm and soft, smoked cheddar was melted and strong flavoured - You could say it is the perfect traditional american burger! The perfect cheat meal!<br/><br/>The chips were also crispy and delicious - can highly recommend their aioli sauce!<br/><br/>Only advice I would give other than You must try it is that you call in beforehand to order to make sure you aren't left waiting 40 minutes for your delicious burgers!

Can see why this place is on the metroeats top 100 cheap eats. Here you can find burgers at $10 and under, with most being around $8.50. Chicken, beef, fish and vegetarian burger options are available, as well as the option to add ingredients such as pineapple (a must have for the fish burger) for a small price. <br/><br/>First time if came here and got the fish burger with pineapple and it was amazing. It was a battered fish with a batter I've never seen before, but I'm not complaining. I next came here on 7/09/14 for Father's Day and got the burger of the week, the stack 'o' beef and my dad loved it, and said it was worth the 20min drive. <br/><br/>I suggest that if you're wanting to visit, order in advance as waiting times can be 10-15min. Will definitely be back!
Jill
eriously, this place is as good as it gets when it comes to the humble burger. Fresh buns, thick & juicy REAL beef patties and loads of toppings for a fraction of what you'd pay anywhere else, be it a takeaway joint OR restaurant.<br/><br/>My $5.50 cheeseburger was perfect, I can really only explain it as what you should expect to get when paying a lot, lot more at a really good cafe or restaurant. Shame is, now all future burgers will be compared to Big J's and I already know that many of them will fail miserably in comparison.<br/><br/>There is only a couple of tables inside and one outside so don't expect to dine in as this place is very busy.Ā <br/><br/>'A' grade food hygiene rating :)

I was actually recommended Big J's before it made it on The Metro's Cheap Eat list. Friends of mine live near by and were raving about Big J's. I have been wanting to come since xmas of last year after seeing plenty of photos of their burgers posted on FB. Big J's is takeaways with a difference. Its owned and operated by a chef with 25years in the industry.<br/><br/>Most of the time you are judging a burger on two things - the patty and burger bun. These handmade patties are super soft. This has to be one of the best patties I have had from a takeaway store. The burger buns were nice but maybe could have used a bit more toasting, just to hold the burger together a bit better. I chose the beef and mushroom burger, great size for someone like me also I didn't want to order a huge burger like the bf because I wanted to keep room for the chips and gravy. Yes they do chips and gravy! Not sure who else is as big of a fan as me when it comes to chips and gravy - but its one of my fav combos. The hawaiian burger had great flavour but just lacked more pineapple and disappointed with the bacon as the texture was a bit tough - this could just be improved by putting a crispy piece in instead.<br/><br/>Orders come out relatively quick - we came a sunday night so not sure on the hype on a fri and sat night but for a sunday it was pretty busy - but it was probably feeding a great deal of the hangover demographic. I personally liked my burger better but being a chef you always analyse any menu and try pick what item you think will be best to avoid food envy. Great Takeaways and would recommend it any day.Ā <br/><br/>Rating<br/>Food: 8/10<br/>Service: 7.5/10<br/>Value for Money: Very Good

We went to this burger joint after reading an article that they won the best burger in Auckland voted by Metro magazine. It was indeed the best burger I have ever tasted in Auckland. The price wasĀ very reasonable for a gourmet burger. Service was excellent and the staff were professional. A very organised and well managed outfit. We went back a few times and the quality was consistently good for burgers. Unfortunately, we can't rate the same for their fish and chips, which is quite oily and could have been made much better. Overall, a great burger joint!!
FlyingMonkey
My mum is not a fan of burgers n hard to please, even she liked their burgers. They are definitely one of the best burgers of Nz. Loved the service n everything. We ordered a taranaki fish burger n a mushroom burger, both were super good quality for its value compared to another burger place.
Larisa
Read so much about this place but only visited last week -we live around the corner but never buy local takeaways.<br/>I had beef and mushroom burger- turned out to be the best burger I ever had! I usually don't like onions at all, but these were so yum I was begging for more!<br/>My husband had chicken and bacon burger and he thought it was phenomenal. The ingredients were fresh and well cooked.<br/>Sweet potato wedges were exceptional- not greasy at all.<br/>We will definitely be coming back and make it our weekly takeaway treat. You are the best.
Neepz706
One of the best burgers I've ever had and cant wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! Service was great but cant believe how busy this place gets. Order took about 15 minutes but definitely worth the wait!! Tip you can always place a phone order, half the people coming in were all pick ups.
Lucy
Your burgers are legendary. Not only for quality but for the price.<br/><br/>Worth the drive. Find a nice place to eat, maybe at the park, on a hill, wherever, and enjoy. <br/><br/>You guys certainly know what you are doing! <br/><br/>Very filling. Equal to our homemade burgers. Yum yum!!!!<br/><br/>I'll always be back!!!

Putting it simply, no other burger can beat these ones. People are friendly place looks clean food is absolutely divine, flavours oh I hate writing this review as my mouth is watering. I have visited twice this year as unfortunately I am a hour hour drive away. Hope they open up another place closer to me in the city. Visited for lunch April 2014 with work members

Had to go based on the reviews,.<br/>Order the burger with mushrooms. was amazing. Not sure where the mushrooms were but plenty of onions which tasted caramalized.<br/><br/>The burger was HUGE and amazing value. Not sure about their onion rings. batter was not that great. I would give five stars if it wasn't for the wait. 30 minutes for a burger, but other than that. I suggest phone ahead for your order rather than wait around. Was outstanding!!
Keith
What a great burger joint and the best part is Big J's Takeaways isn't trying to impress with flashy advertising or self righteous claims about ingredients or sticking it to the big boys.<br/>They just deliver great food at reasonable prices from a little shop tucked away in the back of suburbia. Luckily for me I'm only a few streets over so popping down for my burger fix isn't much of a trip.<br/>If only every corner store had a chip shop of Big J's quality beside it. Try everything once, you won't regret it.

Best burgers and best customer service. I'm pregnant and being my first I'm very fussy about food safety. I emailed the team to ask if the aioli is homemade as its made with raw eggs and if they would mind if the lettuce is extra washed. Lettuce can carry listeria. I got a reply very quickly saying they can swap the aioli for a safe mayo. So the next day I phone ordered and the girl who took the order had to ask about the substitution. I was told that the chef has specially went and brought the mayo for me. I had mentioned in the email that the next day was my birthday and when I picked up my order the chef was very nice and didn't mind accommodating to my needs and wished me a happy birthday. The burgers were amazing, and I would highly recommend these burgers.

I love Big Js. This place is always really busy so it pays to order over the phone first. LOVE the wraps and raw fish yummo!! I don't hesitate recommending this place to all of my friends who live or work in the area.

Damn seriously tasty burgers<br/>Read their review here and thought these are pretty big boasts about this place. It's in a part of Mt Wgtn which should be called, "hole in the wall" because it's on the ass end of the suburb. A very unusual place to sell gourmet burgers. In saying that, if you're good they will come and they certainly come!<br/>Waltzed in on a lazy Sat a'noon. Ordered the burger of the week (as recommended by the young woman who served me), a chilli dog &amp; battered fish just to compare the standard wares! Surprised to see a few diners here, while I waited on my order there must of been half a dozen people walk in to pick up big phoned in work orders. <br/>The place is very clean, smart n smelled airey n fresh, the staff nicely uniformed n pretty flat out cooking up orders! <br/>I took my food home and hoed into the contents. The Portobello blue burger was damn good nicely layered chunks of beef, the cheese, mushroom, bacon and secret sauce was generous. It was damn tasy. Wife got angry cos I hoofed the whole lot down while she was on the phone blabbing away to her mum (for 2 hours). The fish I ordered was the cheapest on the board. It was nicely cooked and crispy, a fairly thick fillet, nicely salted with good lemon juice flavor coming thru! The chilly dog had a kick in it and cheaply priced. It was okay but I should have gone with the more expensive dog &amp; snapper that the girl who served me had recommended! <br/>Only improvement I could recommend for Big J and his wife is maybe have the other staff do a bit of serving on the counter. Help boost their confidence in dealing with people. If they want a career in hospitality or want to run a business you need to hone your communication skills. A flashed smile ,eye contact n a greeting acknowledging your customer isn't going to hurt you (Check the Health n Safety manuals??)<br/>Highly rate the gourmet burgers here, Well done guys
Adeline
Had the beef chimichangas ... I honestly did not expect it to turn out yummier than expected (the crust was crispy and fresh-tasting.. which is rare for a takeaway place serving chimichangas!).<br/><br/>My colleague had the beef burger - it was massive and laden with all sorts of scrumptious ingredients (good thing they were generous with the brie cheese - I like places that are generous like that). <br/><br/>The chips that came with our meals were average though - although it was nice to be presented options on various types of salt you can have on your chips with. haha.<br/><br/>Not bad for a cheap and quick lunch takeaway experience in Mount Wellington.

Wow. Magical journey on a rainbow to burger town!<br/><br/>Was guided on my adventure by helpful staff.<br/><br/>Massive flavor explosions....<br/><br/>NOT YOUR AVERAGE TAKEAWAYS!!!!!!!!!!<br/><br/>Go Italian stallion Burger!!!!

Big Js is exceptional, forget anywhere else and make the drive.<br/><br/>Freakishly fantastic burgers and hotdogs, cheapest anywhere and the staff are super lovely. Do ring ahead and order as its so popular that the queue is generally out the door, and with good reason!

Without doubt the best burgers available in Auckland or even NZ for that matter, I've recently come back from a trip to Queenstown and visited the mighty Fergburger and that is not a patch on this place, the burger of the week is always a joy and the accompaniments are fantastic also, where else can you go and get offered 4 different type of salts for your fries, and the chocolate mousse is amazing i highly recommend this place the best burger in town
Mike
10/10 always, this little gem is so hidden, but make the best burgers I've ever had. The weekly specials are always a treat and the price is a bargain. Kumara wedges are to die for!!!<br/><br/>I heard rumours they were also looking to add a new store, I kinda hope it's not near me as I wouldn't leave...
Owen Wang
The burgers here completely kick Burger Burger, Better Burger, Velvet Burger, you name it, in the teeth!<br/><br/>I must say that I was quite skeptical at first, since the store isn't very big and the prices appear way too low for any quality burger. It was a little drive, but the trip was absolutely worth it. Hell, if I go nitty gritty about it the petrol cost was probably less than the extra bucks I would have spent at another burger place.<br/><br/>Massive burgers, jaw-droppingly low price and innovative recipes are what Big J is all about. Constantly, the burger genius behind the store would come up with new ideas to entice our cravings with weekly special recipes.<br/><br/>They weren't exaggerating. Big J really is the home of Auckland's best burgers.
Jeff Napier
Simply the best burgers and chips in NZ. I have to show great strength of character to drive by this road every day and not call in. Such is the power of this shop, you will find suits mixing with construction workers at lunchtime. Why people buy franchise food? when this meca is here.
Olivia Winstone
These guys do amazing burgers.<br/>I had a falafel burger for $6, and it was awesome value. The patty was thick and beautiful. I kept saying 'how did they make this?!' as I was munching through it. It was just that good.<br/><br/>Big J's is a bit out of the way for us, but the drive was worth it for a lunchtime trip out from the office for something different.<br/><br/>My friend had the burger of the day for $10, which looked amazing too.<br/><br/>Also the crumbed camembert sticks were crispy and cheesy in all the right ways, if a little greasy and naughty. The accompanying dip was delish too.<br/><br/>The service was fast as well.
Robert
Best burgers in Auckland no exaggeration. Love the burgers of the week really creative and fresh ingredients. Fish and chips also really good, been meaning to have one of the wraps but I'll assume those are good aswel <br/><br/>One in town would kill it.
Robert T
Best burgers in town good fresh ingredients and great value, feel like I should pay more every time I go. They have a burger of the week which is a unique burger only avaliable for a week (which they post on their fb), and also the fish and chips are amazing
Noms Burger
Definitely the best burgers around!<br/><br/>They have a different creative burger each week. Big J's has great size, flavour and value. It gets so busy on Fridays that you have to order about an hour ahead.
Sergio
Talking about takeaways, burger, fish and chips...<br/><br/>BIG J'S !!! <br/><br/>Is unbelievable experience, big burger, great staff...small staff , only Jason and his wife, but quality , clean, great food...is only over there. I know Jason for years, is those dudes that love food and loves cooking...

BEST BURGERS IN NZ...love the fish burgers, raw fish &amp; cheesecakes are delicious. Reasonably priced and give you a good serving of chips. Love their homemade sauces. Check them out on facebook. Friendly staff too. Highly recommend. You might want to ring ahead to order as they are always busy

Moved nearby about a year ago and couldn't ask for a better local takeaway food shop! Consistently excellent quality food whether its fish and chips, burgers or the legendary chimichangas!<br/><br/>Cool staff also and their prices are very reasonable given the high quality of the food.
Roslyn Mataua
Delicious food. Big Js rock! Always clean/fresh oil unlike most takeaway stores it's disgusting. Big J's please add that extra chips when ordered. 5dollar chips is like 3dollar sometimes even 2dollar chips. Moneys worth guys. Other than that. Keep up the good work. Happy to recommend you guys to others.
Oli Jay
If you haven't tried Big J's head there now.<br/><br/>The BEST burgers both in taste and price in South Aucks.<br/>Their fish and chips are a cut above the average place too, fresh fish and clean oil.<br/><br/>And they have chilli/lemon pepper/chicken salt for your chips.<br/><br/>Cannot emphasise how good they are.
Richard Beacon
I had the Special Burger and it was overcooked and burnt, so disappointed after reading so many rave reviews of this place so I had high expectations. I will give this place another go, perhaps during dinner time and hopefully a different cook...
