Review Velvet Burger - Auckland Central

Omri Tzur
Tasty burger! I have ordered the 'Big Burger' with fries on the side, the burger itself looked and tasted really good with all the toppings. 4 Stars from me - was a bit overpriced for what i got in my opinion. 16 NZD for the hamburger alone (or as written: 15.90) + 5.5 NZD for a below-average fries. Still, it was a good experience!

Really delicious burgers and wide range to choose from. Definitely prefer the shoestring fried over the thicker cut ones. Loved the wall decor and the wooden interior. Great place to get some lunch with friends.

Truth be told, when it comes to flavour wise my friends have asked me if my tastebuds are actually functional; I’m just not picky at all and generally love everything!! These burgers were no exception. My friend and I got the velvet lady; the buns were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside (as were the fatties fries; the skinnies fries are like maccas fries so go fatties tbh); the chicken was juicy and cooked well, the sauces esp the aioli was omfg, and the veggies were fresh and crisp asf!!! Kinda wish they had smaller buns just so that the ratio was right but service and food was 100%!!

Ordered the 4 burgers combo for 48 dollars. Definitely worth it. Fresh and big portion.

Really nice burgers. It’s not often you get anything other than salad and tomato as normal veggies in your burgers so I personally loved getting cucumber. We tried all 3 kind of fries and everything was really nice. Portions are pretty big too. Thanks for such a nice takeaway

Ok I’m not sure what the deal is but I almost felt ripped of when I ordered a combo with my burger and didn’t get my drink till I had to ask for it as I was leaving not cool however the service was great food was awesome but the condiments needed to be regularly topped up not just the water jugs hot sauce also that’s why I’m particularly recommending this place food is good though

Really excellent burgers, well seasoned fries, come with an ingenious card burger holder! Slowish service but well worth the wait!
Bella
The staff was very kind, but the soft bread was not my style.

I always enjoy their burger as I have tried all type of burgers and all of them are delicious. Thank you Fort St team.

Awesome Burgers and the two for Tuesday was even better as we were off a ship for the day.
Vaida Jonušytė
The staff looked a bit miserable. It seems they had a good party yesterday. Overall, the burger was tasty and so was the beer

Nice burger for my few visits, it's a little on the pricey side but times too short for a bad burger isn't it?
virginia sotelo corbacho
I did enjoy the burger , was big and testy, the only negative point is that I find it a little bit sweet, not sure if this was for the sauce .

Ordered two burgers online and pickup time said to expect at 5:30. Did not receive order until 5:45. Food was delicious when arrived. Perhaps computer system needs to change to manage expectations more true to time as my partner had somewhere to be and he was late. Clean dining area. Others were going and asking about their orders being done too maybe a time board would help with whose is ready

The best burgers in Auckland. Very good atmosphere and nice and friendly staff.

Very fond memories of this place down in Dunedin - kept me alive for quite a few nights haha! <br/><br/>Ordered online on Tuesdays meaning 2 for 1 deal - so worth it. Got the Big Bro burger, much like a kiwiburger and it was tasty as as usual, probably my go to burger at Velvet.
MCP
Crispy skinnies was so crispy - too bad the aioli kind of bland. Ordered big bro burger; super yummy! the egg, mushroom, sauce and the beef patty just melt in your mouth 😋. the buns def my fave in auckland! soft and crispy yet not too crispy like some other burger joints! recommended 👌🏻

If this place has to compete with the likes of Burger Fuel then they need to have more urgency in the kitchen. The place doesn’t look busy and it still took 24 min to serve a burger. When I followed up it looked like my burger sitting there getting cold for 7-8 min. A total 24 min of wait time. Not good enough. Not returning.

Spent $45 , server didn’t wanna give free aioli.. sad
The Poor Foodie
Came here on a Friday night and they had a deal for $30 with 2 burgers, 2 fries and 2 sauces. Got velvet lady (chicken) burger for myself and ordered two fatties fries and aioli sauce (can’t remember which the second one was) and as expected, they were awesomely yum! The burger was huge and all the ingredients were generous. Loved the avocado inside the burger and the bun was very soft. The fries were in huge serving. To be honest we couldn’t finish everything <br/>One thing about the burger was that it was a bit messy to eat. The juice dripped down and the fillings might drop but that’s a common problem for burgers anyway.

Always love a good BYO with a giant burger + crispy fries for $22 at Velvet Burger! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food. No complaints.

I need to come here more often, I forgot how tasty and decently sized the burgers are! They are on the expensive side but there a few cheaper options too and they run 2 for 1 Tuesdays which is a great deal. Friendly crew, and fast service also.
Sophie Wang
Massive burgers with decent ingredients. Quick table service. The fatties and kumara fries are a must have. Definitely coming back soon. They also do a 2 for 1 on a Tuesday.
David Harvey
Enjoys the two for one Tuesdays, burger of the month promotions and the good Times club. Awesome friendly staff with great service and responsibility.
Mashed_Potato
Spontaneous stop by velvet burger. Buzzing atmosphere, friendly service and rather decent burgers! Overall the price I paid, $15.00, for a plain burger with no sides wasnt too much of a "wow" overall, not bad.<br/>.<br/>.<br/>.<br/>#aucklandeats #burger #nzfoodgrams #aucklandfoodblogger #aucklandfoodie

This was quite a hype several months ago and I was not one of the first ones who rode that bandwagon, though I love burgers once in a while, I never crave them plus it was quite a walk from my office so I would rather go to somewhere near. Few weeks ago, after an early night out in the city we managed to pass by this place, this time no more massive queue compared to its early days, in fact there were only few people dining in when we came.
Dani
Came here with a friend and they have a load of meat options however not a great amount for vegetarian eaters. Nonetheless, the veggie burger was still super tasty and I would definietly come back for another! The Kumara fries are also a great add-on if you are wanting to make it a combo. A really cool casual vibe with awesome service and burgers that are super filling.

Got the luxe bird with extras of pineapple and bacon. It was pretty good. They forgot my extras though and I had to go back to ask for it but that got rectified pretty quickly. The price is a bit on the steep side so I probably wouldn’t come here often.

Went here on a tuesday and got an extra burger free. Burgers are very large with fresh vegetables added on top of the patties. I ordered the double brown which has 2 beef patties, tasted very good and a steal at 2 for the price of 1. <br/><br/>Good place for a burger lunch

Came in for lunch today. Ordered online so we got the second burger free. The beet drop was amazing. Beetroot and beef mixed together created one of the best tasting patties. They had the perfect amount of sauce with cucumbers, lettuce and tomatoes. Burger was huge but the quality was still good. Buns weren’t soggy at all. Gone burger was large. The chicken tasted so crispy and the beef, fresh. Order didn’t take too long and environment was nice. Hot sauces were provided. They even had one with kiwi fruit flavouring.

Stopped by to grab lunch with friends and ordered the Cheesy Bro, oh my goodness the burgers are so big! Definitely worth the price! I struggled to finish my burger but enjoyed the combination of sauces, soft bun and beef patty. Great spot to grab a burger!

Had ordered the luxe bird burger and fatties . The burger is very huge but very delicious the chicken was so tender and the burger itself was very juicy. One of the best burgers I have had .
Mulik.aditya99
Really great place if you're looking for a nice really burger. I tried the big brown and was fantastic with some fries. The service was quick and had a great experience over all.

Velvet Burger is defiantly the place to go every time you are craving a burger. My go-to burger here is the velvet lady - it is simply divine. On Tuesdays, you can get 2 for the price of one and it is one heck of a deal. Order online and take it to the park as it's often too busy to dine in on Tuesdays.
RL.P
Came here twice this week. It’s a shame Velvet Burger doesn’t have more vege options (No fish burgers too) Ordered the only vege burger on the menu & fries both times. Big bun & thick patty. Enjoyed them both. Fries were crispy. Liked the vibe of the place. Good music too. Great service & no long wait time.

Went there to take up the usual '2 for Tuesday' deal last week and ordered 2 Goneburgers and a scoop of fries for a friend and I. We were fairly underwhelmed by the burgers. They didn't have crumbed chicken breast, only grilled (they were cleaning up in prep to close in half an hour) , which we agreed to and was fine (sometimes the crumbed breast has been overdone in past experiences).<br/>After returning home (10min walk) I examined the burgers and they just seemed a bit deficient and the buns very close to meeting. This would be, in part, because the crumbed breast takes up more burger 'real estate', but there was only one piece of bacon, which only provides bacon taste for half the burger (last time I dined in there, the bacon piece was smaller, but I pointed it out to staff, they agreed and had another piece added, which was nice) I had one ring of onion, but my friend only had one onion piece, about 6cm long for his whole burger. Also, one of the constant problems I find with Velvet Burger was also in effect: the salad on their burgers consists of only one, thin slice of tomato (not many bites include tomato!) and one leaf of fancy lettuce and for some reason, they reckon its a good idea to pile up a steaming hot Angus patty right on top of it, consistently ensuring that the heat cooks what little salad the burger has, into oblivion. Maybe its some fancy move that I'm not aware of, but I swear they could learn a few thinks from McD's and BK about proper burger assembly and how a tiny amount of extra ingredient, like onion, can go a long way and perhaps make a $16.50 burger actually seem worth it.<br/>Bottom line: only bother going if the burgers are half price. There are other burgers out there for similar prices, which easily surpass these.

I came here with a friend the other day and was surprisingly pleased. The food is a little expensive but the quality and portion size makes up for it. I definitely left here feeling very full (in a good way). The general ambiance of the store is also very nice, for a relaxed catchup with mates. The food was also well made and quick, would definitely recommend here if you want a chill, casual sitdown burger place

Had the Velvet Lady (Chicken burger). The burger was large, and tasted as good as it looked. However "Gourmet" is an overstatement, I'm not convinced the price tag matched the product. This is not the place for someone on a budget, or looking for value for their money.<br/><br/>But if price is no issue, then I do recommend this place to grab a quick, decent burger at lunch or after work.

Incompetent waited 45mins for a burger during non peak hours. No water available for customers, despite un-utilitised employees. Ruined my day trip of Auckland. Overall unsatisfied with performance and would not recommend to anyone.

Been going to Velvet fort street for the past seven years (big fan of 241 Tuesday) and have always loved their burgers. The burgers are good, the service was always great with staff being super chill and happy to switch out certain items for another for free. However, over the last couple years I have experienced a not so positive change in the way the business operates. For one, you are now charged for any changes to a burger so even if you strip the burger of things they value at $3 dollars each you still have to pay an additional $3 to add what you actually want. I understand a lot of places do this but velvet never used to be like this (overall not a big deal I guess!). The other thing that has changed which has kinda ruined it a bit for me is the policy they now have that you have to order online to get the 241 deal. Their online system is very clunky and slow. I spoke to a staff member there who told me that they only get sent the orders about 5 minutes after you order online. To make matters worse you have to set a pickup time (with the earliest option being around 15-20 minutes after the time you order). The last few times I have been there to pick up my burgers they have either not started cooking the burger (even though the store is near empty) or they say it will be a few minutes away, meaning the average wait time for a burger has been about 20-30minutes. Anyway that’s probably enough abuse for now.. kinda hope they bring back in store orders for the 241. Speeds up the process and also means there is less chance of orders being messed up which has also happened a few times when I order online. Still love you Velvet. Thanks, Nick

Had a beef burger.'Big bro' I think it was called<br/>It was filling and tasty! Huge burgers!<br/>Price is around 15$ or so but the food quality and quantity match the price, best burger joint I have come across hands down.<br/><br/>The lady at the counter was really helpful, she chose the burger for me and I did not regret letting her choose whatever.<br/>Great service, neat and tidy seating area too.<br/>Highly recommend.!!

AVOID!!! COCKROACHES EVERYWHERE!!! PLUS THE CHIPS ARENT VEGAN/VEGETARIAN!<br/>C<br/><br/>came in for a quick bite to eat with a friend and we both ordered the animal rights (which isn’t vegetarian either as they cook it in the chicken oil) and sat down at our table and were greeted by 3 cockroaches! I felt physically sick straight away and the manager wasn’t helping at all! Terrible service, never ever going back.

I ordered a cheesy bro, it was massive. The Patty was a bit cold and the sauces were a bit overpowering but the meat was really flavoursome and the service was great 😁😁
Orient Express
Velvet Burger has always had a reputation from making quality, gourmet burgers and I have always held it in high regard since my first meal there.  I stopped by after work as I felt it was time I finally gave it a review.<br/><br/>I ordered the Big Bro (bacon, egg, mushroom, beetroot), with side of Fatties (chunky chips) and Chili Mayo dipping sauce.  Much like their other burgers, the Big Bro contains some moving parts which interact well enough with each other to create nice (largely sweet) flavors but I find they put too much sauce or not enough of the other fillings for anything to really hit their stride.  One thing you'll notice about the burgers is that the patties aren't as thick as other burger places and they are much more delicate.  The buns are very soft and fluffy which I liked but this also made it hard for me to eat towards the end of my meal as I am very much an amateur burger eater.  Overall an enjoyable burger but not the best I've had from Velvet.  The fatties were fried to a nice crisp but they didn't possess the body good chunky chips should have as they were a bit hollow.  Speaking from memory, their Skinnies were much better.  The Chili Mayo is mayonnaise mixed with sweet chili sauce.  I wasn't a fan of this combination as I expected it to be mixed with Sriracha and would recommend going for Aioli instead.  <br/> <br/>In the past, I have also tried the Hottie - a mildly spicy, smaller beef burger and the incomparable Gone Burger - a huge burger with a beef patty, crumbed chicken breast and bacon.  My friend always orders the Velvet Lady which he holds in high regard but the Gone Burger is my clear favorite and is the one I'd recommend to anyone with the appetite.  <br/><br/>The staff at the counter are friendly and serve the orders to your table.  The water is self service.  The place is dimly lit and feels a bit rustic.<br/><br/>Velvet Burger offers a different experience to most burger joints because as its name may imply, it sacrifices the gritty ethos of the hamburger to focus on a gourmet approach.  The burgers are very refined and despite not being my ideal definition of a burger combined with my own personal nitpicks, they still taste very good and in my opinion are definitely worth trying out.

Caught up with a friend and it was our first experience at Velvet Burger. Was not disappointed at all! Cool atmosphere, deliciously filling burgers. The fact they sold alcohol was a plus too :)
Tiana
Not a huge fan of this place. Boyfriend absolutely loves it and says the best burger place he has ever had but I’ve had better burgers. Come here twice now and both burgers were average in my opinion.
Alice In New Zealand
had beef n chicken ! Omg was really yum. Portion was really big enough. I tried fried pickles for the first time. Was good ! I even like the bottle of coke:)
Mihiariiwohler25
So good ! The burgers are tasty, and the kumara chips are so yummy. I particularly loved the one with chutney inside and the mushrooms ! I highly recommend it !
Mmmfood
This is a fantastic place for a quick burger. The burgers are a good size, nice and juicy an filled with flavour. The location is also very central and easily accesible with public transport close by.

Really yum! Great staff and super quick service. I got the big brown and was delicious, my partner got the gone burger and he loved It! Perfect for late night burger cravings or if you're wandering the city lost

Velvet Burger has good size burgers which are definitely consistent in taste/quality. I had the Velvet Lady last time and despite being a smaller option was definitely enough for me. Staff here are always super friendly!!

Love coming to Velvet burger as it’s close to work and great value especially on 2-4-1 Tuesdays. 🤩🤩🤩<br/>Service is prompt and friendly. <br/>My favourite is “Babe” and “Big Brown”.

I visited it on a Tuesday. It was very crowded but the service was good and fast. <br/>Happening place with a retro feel.<br/>I ordered the "Animal Rights Burger" for a take away... Yummy! It tasted fresh.. I liked the flavor of coriander in the pattie.<br/>Definitely going back.. this time for dining in! :)

First time at velvet burger - the experience was amazing! The atmosphere was chill and would be great for a casual dinner or drinks with friends. It was very busy on a Friday night. We had Godfather (burger of the month) and the big bird with cranberry sauce and big scoop of skinny fries with the BEST AIOLI I'VE EVER HAD!! The cost of the burgers are reasonable as they are big and hearty, we both commented on how delicious the burger were. Would definitely be coming here again!
HelenMeng2000
I got the squawk dawg and it was pretty good, the restaurant was nearly empty when we went and food came in about 10 minutes. The burgers are filling and price is not bad.

Velvet Burger has a great work environment with great employees along with great customer service. Definitely a nice casual place to eat with friends. The wait for my friend and I's order was a little under 10 minutes which I personally don't mind. The temperature of our burgers were between warm to cold, I was expecting them to be very hot and juicy as we were the only customers there that night. The side dishes that we purchased which were wedges, hashies, and kumara chips were delicious, but was very oily. The only thing I did enjoy without having to complain was my bottle of juice.
Chris Wang
Went here for lunch on my 21st. Buns were dry, chicken burger was average but think the pork was really dry. Chips were decent, they offered two types of chips skinny and fat. But the staff had to offer us a mixture between the two because skinny fries were not enough. Staff was friendly tho.

Velvet Burger on Fort St is a great spot for a casual meal. The spot has a comforting ambiance with a retro diner interior as though it's through a sepia filter.<br/><br/>The service is friendly. But it took a long period of time for our food to arrive. We can here for dinner on a Tuesday night. But it was a late dinner nearing 9pm. But we still had to wait for 30mins for 2 burgers.<br/><br/>We both ordered the Animal's Rights burger. The burger was seasoned well. But the kumara patty was too soft. My burger was served to me verging more on cold than warm. There wasn't enough of a crust so The main texture of the burger was mush. That was disappointing especially due to the long wait.<br/><br/>The value was great, with Tuesdays 2 for 1 burger deal.
Kyles
I love this place ....I ordered the chilli burger it was divine as well as the chips ..nice clean burger joint ...staff were lovely and I will be back ...very happy
Ravi
Amazing customer service with a great location in a CBD . There is a burger for everyone here. The patties here are thick and juicy . If you have not tried a venison before, you can also come here to try it out.
The Cheesy Ravioli
Love this place, Two-for-one Tuesday provides amazing value.Burgers are always on point, wholesome and tasty NZ style burgers!Favourite is always the velvet lady or big bird. They have a GF bun option, sometimes out of stock so it pays to check first but it tastes amazing compared to most GF buns. The staff are always friendly and helpful too. Highly recommended!
Nisarag Bhatt
Came here for dinner, pretty empty so food came fast.<br/><br/>I ordered the "animal rights" burger and it came out pretty average (I'd say you can get better premium burgers at other places). I like the hashies and sour cream tho (very yum!). <br/><br/><br/>
Mandy C
We ordered the "babe" burgers, kumara fries and normal fries. Burgers were soo good! Buns were fluffy and meat was cooked well. The sides were okay, good portion but nothing great. The service was nice.
Jason Andrews
Tried the Big Bro Burger and it was incredible.  Hands down the greatest I have ever had and feel very blessed to find the place. I didn't get to try the chips but I did try the Corona.  Perfect match.
Suchandra Saha
This is a happening place I must say. Atleast on Tuesdays.<br/>We ordered Babe burger . It is big and dekicious.<br/>Mouth watering.<br/>The burger have fried chicken pinapple bacon lettus etc and yummy.<br/>The service and ambiance are good too.
Andrew Symons
Super dissapointing how can a burger have so little taste or flavout the patties are so bland do they add so much filler to the patties to make them taste this way and the cheese good god a double cheeseburger and again not a hint of a cheese taste it all comes down to a doughy and rather sludgy mouthful of mainly burger bun fries decidedly average and tiny servings wont be back
Anu
Great food, environment, price , range of beers. Skinnies are so good and the burger is so big, it will fill you up , so be mindful while ordering food . Omg I can go to the place many times . Keep it up guys with the food and quality.
Quality! It Shouldnt Be That Hard! Love A Wonderful Mouth Full Of Wholesome FOOD!
The staff was lovely have me extra wine because the bottle was almost empty score. <br/><br/>The service was quick the aoli sauce was the best I have ever had. The burger however was mostly bun as u can tell buy the open photo,a tinny piece of chicken one piece or tomato and cucumber and all bun, I only ate the half with the good stuff left the other empty half behind. It tasted good just not enough chicken ect :-( <br/><br/>Not sure if I'll give it a shot again as i only have one cheat day a week now days !!!!
Alesi Ray
Only thing that I would like is more than 1 piece of cucumber. This is hands down my favourite food place though. The staff are always lovely. Cheap burgers for the size of the burger. Never wait longer than 20 minutes on a busy day.
Kerry Powell
Waited over 30min for my order. The burgers are good, but not worth the kind of wait. If you are eating on your lunch break, maybe go somewhere else
Dave Keen
I have been here a few times this year and it seems to be slipping unfortunately.  The service I got on Fort Street the other night was 1 out of 5 while the burger was very bland and the fries soggy.  For about $18 for the burger and fries it was a disappointing experience at this price.  I have found Burger Fuel to be fresher and tastier recently but hoping my recent visits to Velvet were just getting them on a bad day!  I was at the Federal St one recently and the service was great (but again chips very soggy again!).  Look forward to this place getting back to where it used to be.
Martin Cronjé
Very disappointing. We had the velvet lady and velvet burger. Burgers were dry and tasteless. Despite being very hungry we didn't finish our burgers<br/><br/>Avoid and rather do Burger King down the road.
Arvin Raymond Dsouza
We had been to this burger place on a Saturday evening, we ordered 2 velvet lady burgers and wedges. The burger looked nice and big. However, the taste was really disappointing - the patty seemed less for the size of the burger and the relish and sauces did not make a good combination. The wedges were the only thing well done.
Athena
A place i have wanted to go to for years! We were there jusy before 5,30 on a weekday. Ordered two hotties, skinny fries, aioli and chilli mayo. We were told 15 minutes. The place boasts a generous seating area behind the counters. Food arrived in less than a 15 minutes. The bun was crisp on the outside and soft inside. Meat was not the standard burger and was spiced perfectly. The amounts of relish, hot sauc, onion and lettuce were bang on and not messy! The burger is on the large side! Fried were just shoestring fries but for each serving we got a rather large bowl: the aioli was a tad too garlicy and the chill mayo really just tasted like butter and something rather sweetish. Wont get sauces again. Service was pleasant. Would dine there again!
Gary
Now these are one of those establishment with serious money for value for 30 or but more you can get two burgers plus a side and a drink. Always go here when need to go out for a decent quick meal. Definitely recommend this place, way better than your average burger fuel
Manuela Ovalle Herrera
I went to Velvet burger with some uni friends for the 2 for 1 on Tuesday. We all ordered goneburgers and wow! It was amazing! The service was good and the food was quick even though the place was really busy. I've been to quite a few burger places around Auckland and I think this is definitely a highlight for me
Diogo Reck
I wouldn't say it's much better than McDonald's. Of course the bun and the meat are better, but not that much, and they are way more expensive and in a low scale.<br/><br/>I tried the venison burger and the patty was so thin that it was juiceless, and seasoned to a point I couldn't barely taste this great piece of meat.<br/><br/>Awful experience.
EpiCurious
Interesting interior and decor in a central city location, with generous servings. The beef burger was tasty with a great bun, however the wedges with sour cream were just s little soggy and underwhelming.
JiEun Jenny Kim
I love their 2-4-1 deal :) staff are super friendly and I honestly go to this place almost every once a week. One small flaw would be that their hottie is pretty inconsistent. Sometimes it's too spicy for me to eat, sometimes it's just perfect. I am pretty sure it isn't my tolerance for spicy food fluctuating.
Ryan Wong
Place deserves the positive rating they are getting, food comes in and tastes great almost every time and if an order is incorrect they quickly rectify it. Staff are very friendly, inviting and do not rush you out while the are packing up.
Patriz De Leon
Went here for lunch. Interior is nice. I really like the graffiti in front and the wooden inspired theme.<br/><br/>We ordered Squak Dawg, Hottie and Wedges. Wedges came out first and they were okay. It was good and the serving was generous but nothing really special. The burgers then arrived and they looked massive. I liked the Hottie better than the Squak Dawg. The latter had better flavours (and is really spicy). What I liked with the burgers are the buns - they remind me of a bread back home called "pandesal". However, the patties were too thin for my liking and didn't really stand out.
Tuusharp Tu Loose
Best burger I have eaten ever. From Tauranga, always go there. Great service, reasonable prices. I dream of going back there. Fresh buns delicious meat patties, you cant go wrong.

First review.<br/><br/>Me and some friends decided to check this place out on a cold Auckland night to warm our stomachs up, and boy it was the best decision! <br/><br/>Reading the menu Itself left us with watering mouths as the menu was so descriptive. <br/><br/>After minutes of pondering I chose the Velvet Burger, my friend also had the Velvet with extra aoli, mushrooms and my other friend got the babe burger + a side of skinny chips with aoli.... Yum.<br/><br/>The Velvet consisted of pineapple, venison, cos lettuce and chili mayo. Couldn't have asked for a better burger! The chips + aoli really made it as well, I had been craving garlic allll day and it really came through in the sauce.<br/><br/>Also awesome customer service! <br/><br/>A+++

Came here on a rather dead sunday day. There was only one staff member, who seemed to be covering everything. The set up is trendy to say the least. It has booths and high chair tables which seems like the design is for groups. I ordered the venison burger and fries. My partner ordered the smaller sized venison burger with kumara chips. My burger was fresh with its ingredients, however it was sauce overload! If you know me I tend to hate sloppy burgers. There was so much sauce it took away from the taste of the meat. Burgers shouldn't be a rubix cube! The burger came out well before the chips which was annoying, not to mention i took the chips back because they were beyond overcooked (i could crush the chips into a sprinkle 😒). The guy was nice enough to make another batch. My partner also got given the wrong burger, getting chicken instead. She was nice enough to settle with it tho. What really made this experience a let down was that my table and the surrounding tables were dirty! They hadn't been cleaned and it was just the cherry on top to a sub par experience. I definitely would not come back. This place is like the basic bro of burger joints. Lots of gloss and aesthetic appeal, tho no quality or substance that would make you want to come around often...that or maybe the worker shouldn't be hungover because the mistakes and lack of attentiveness was sub par.
Michelle
One of the places we go to when we go eat in town. Loved the burgers here. We prefer only this burger place and burger burger in Ponsonby. Definitely a better alternative from other fast food chains like Mc Donalds and Burger King.  Worth a try if you feel like a burger in town. Decor : 5/5  Food: 4.5/5  Ambience: 4/5
Frank Lin
The burgers here are really expensive and are overrated.<br/><br/>It just doesn't taste great and I found that the burgers were too large for my liking. <br/><br/>The staff service was average and nothing to write home about. <br/><br/>Overall, an expensive burger joint which doesn't do much better than McDonalds.
Danny
Burgers are a thing Auckland does well. And if you’re feeling those cravings, you can’t go wrong with a Velvet Burger. Each burger is made from quality ingredients complete with that southern kiwi touch. The result is something quite unique. Fancy some beets in your burger? Velvet Burger has you sorted.

Great place for a burger! Love the atmosphere and customer service provided. Tuesday is always a great day to go for the 2 for 1 special. Apart from a few longer than usual waiting times (because it is so packed) this place is definitely worth coming back for 😄😄

Yum! Reasonable prices and v delicious food.<br/>We got the big bird burger and a mini sqwark burger and fries.<br/>Burgers were big and tasty and fries were really well cooked.<br/>Service was friendly, comfy inside with booths and tables and cool decor. Would totes go again.

Famed Velvet Burger has been a major burger player amongst Auckland's many burger joints.<br/><br/>Coming in on a Friday Lunch time the place was absolutely packed to the brim with a line stretching all the way out of the store.<br/><br/>I ordered a Goneburger and in all honesty for $16 I was really disappointed, the burger came out like it was burnt and the size was nothing spectacular. In terms of taste, I'll admit it was actually quite tasty and wholesome but to wait 30 minutes for a burnt burger which was average I probably won't do it again.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Taste was above average<br/><br/>Overall Rating: B-

Good portion sizes and good loyalty scheme. Also appreciate the 2 for 1 Tuesday's. My go to is the Goneburger and its huge enough to be a full meal.

Great portions, and even greater service! One of my favourite burger places! Always come here to grab a meal and chill with friends. I am always stuck between the velvet lady and the big bird. The staff are so friendly, and they know how to treat their customers. Out of all my experiences my order was misplaced twice, and they were really nice served but they'd given me a refund of the full price of the burgers. Except for that they do not clean their back tables very often. There were left over plates on some tables before I come in, and still be there when I leave. Other than that this place does not disappoint!

Velvet Burger is my favourite burger place in town. The size is really huge. And come here on Tuesdays to get the 2 for 1 voucher (don't forget to check their Facebook for the code). Highly recommended :)

Suggested by a friend, the kumara fries were to die for, Burger was very delicious and quality, especially with appearance. Wasn't the best burger I've had and was a little pricey but great experience. Would suggest it to others if their to spend it up but the fries definitely deserve a comeback to the burger joint.

This place has the best vegetarian burger I've ever had! You can choose a veggie patty made from either falafel, tofu or mushroom, which is unlike to anywhere else I've ever been and it's good to have options. It has really nice service as well.

Delicious gourmet burgers!<br/>A hearty size<br/>A shame they don't come with fries and you have to order them separately<br/>Had their vension burger and not sure if I liked it! The meat wasn't as chewy so next time I'll go back to my original beef

I've enjoyed Velvet burger on different occasions but this Tuesday deal was a real let down. The staff would charge you full price & make a headache out of the "secret" deal. The service was awfully slow and clueless although a busy Tuesday must not be a surprise for them. On top of all by 8:00PM salad was finished so what we got was basically meat and cheese between bread. You might as well cancel the Tuesday deal if you are so much in trouble to manage it!

We used to visit Velvet Burger every week on a Tuesday.  With all the awesome burger joints in Auckland we probably wouldn't pay full price here for a burger, but we recommend grabbing the 241 password and picking up a couple of Goneburgers on a Tuesday for lunch - usually $16. <br/>However, the service is absolutely shocking.  I'm pretty sure the servers are told to lie about how long the wait is to get people to buy - I'll never do a walk in again, it's not worth a 45minute wait.  Just order online and walk straight in when it's ready<br/>Have received the wrong burger here twice - was still nice, but if I order a chicken burger I don't expect beef, egg and beetroot.

I heard a lot about the place so I tough to check it out.<br/>I order big bro berger and big Brown berger.<br/>For start they do have some interesting name in their menu. <br/>My berger was amazingly good .best part of the berger was a bread patties. <br/>It was different. <br/>Must recommend
Karen
Probably one of my favorite burger places. I get a lot of food cravings which are pretty general, but I often find myself specifically craving a burger from here. Particularly their velvet burger, just... Nothing else compares.<br/><br/>They have a good range to choose from that are quite unique and everything just taste so fresh and of high quality. Staff are all real nice too!

One of the better burger joints I've been to. Unique and refreshing flavours, with each burger being a unique experience. I couldn't say what i liked and what i didn't as per my usual posts and reviews, as all were good. We got to try the stag, velvet lady, homegrown and babe (least liked but still loved it).
Tavita Milford
Only go there for two for one Tuesdays. One of the best burger places I've been to in the city. So huge, which is good for me because I too, am huge
Razelle Icaro
I've only been here twice. I ordered the squak dawg in both occasions. Burger was pretty average. I found the bun a bit dry and the patty's average. Although I did enjoy the wedges and Aoili.

Good burgers, lovely service, had the original beef burger, meat was tender and really a joy to bite into! Thoroughly satisfied GideonMarisa MasterchefNz2015 #g1

I used to love this place when they first opened. I remember when they had amazing deals and nice burgers to entice people to visit them. They're still good, but getting a bit on the pricier side of things.<br/><br/>Food: 6.5/10<br/>Service: 3.5/5 <br/>Ambience: 3.5/5<br/>Value: 3.5/5<br/>Overall: 17/25

I have always had the sqawk dawg and sometime had fries / wedges. The burgers are good but a bit pricey and the staff and venue are both great. However the fries and aioli have not been very good. I have tried both the fatties and skinnies and neither really do it - soggy.

Love this place, my favourite burger joint. They really know how to make a good burger without cutting corners.<br/><br/>The restaurant has a nice atmosphere if you want to sit and eat - inside or outside in the pedestrian mall.

This place is quite a cool place to chill after work; quick friendly service, decent burgers and price, good portions and serves my fav emersons.<br/><br/>Definitely a burger joint comparable to those around town.<br/><br/>

As a burger lover and a regular for many years at burgerfuel I tried Velvet burger for the first time tonight.  Went to the Fort St store at about 6pm on a Wednesday night.   After reading the menu on the wall I still couldnt decide and asked the cashier what was popular.  He told me the Velvet Lady (chicken) was the most popular so I went for that with a half skinnys and aioli.<br/><br/>The burger took a while to come out but it was worth the wait.  Very nice juicy chicken with great sauces but not much salad..  <br/><br/>My only criticisms are the chicken patty and salad is too small for the bun.  If you are going to use a bun that size make the patty at least near the same size.  There was about 2-3cm of bun from patty to edge of bun all the way around. <br/>  Not really much care in dressing the burger as the avo was just dumped in one spot in the middle and as with most burger places I had to open her up and redistribute the filling evenly.  <br/>Single slice McDonalds style processed cheese? Come on guys<br/><br/>Skinny fires were great and so was the aioli (you have to pay an extra $1 for aioli)  Fries were cooked to order and very fresh <br/><br/>I was very happy with the meal.  Will be back soon to try the beef and venison burgers and review them.<br/><br/>Update Edit: 1/10/2015<br/>I have been back twice since. I tried one venison and one beef.  Both very very average. Patties are both very dry, hardly any salad (all lettuce), relish and aioli. Dropping my overall score down a point to 3.0
Misty
Velvet Burger is my favourite burger joint in Auckland! The burgers are massive and yummmmm. I love their hashies too. Make sure you get the 2-for-1 Tuesday deal :)
Daniel Wong
Excellent for dinner. Burgers are delicious and well presented. Convenient location and a wide range if options. Not to expensive as well for a fulling dinner.
Joanna
Love their velvet lady burger and hashies, taste absolutely amazing. One burger is enough to fill you up to the fullest and definitely recommend for lunch and dinner ❤️
Food Snob
Finding vegan food options in Auckland that aren't boring can be a challenge, but Velvet Burger are quite good. I come here at least once every fortnight, and order the Animal Rights Burger. The aioli and yogurt sauce are replaced with avocado and jalapeños, and the staff are quite accommodating with that. The Kumara and Coriander pattie is scrumptious, and I've never had a bad experience. I used to be loyal to Burger Fuel, but Velvet Burger have won me over.
Hoori
I love their burgers specially wincent burger which are, all jucy and light, tge bread is very soft aswell .I can have it every day as my lunch.
FoodLoco
Good burgers with quality meat..<br/>Service is good<br/>Lots of space to sit inside<br/>When I get bored of buger fuel I go here<br/>Skinny Fries are yum!!<br/>

So I ordered the Bro burger, wedges and washed it down with a ginger beer ($27). It's a groovy place to eat. Nice atmosphere and the staff do table service. I thought the burger was okay the bun swallows the filling up so you feel like you're eating a lot of bread. The wedges and sour-cream are epic though. Definitely recommend eating here when you want a break from Burger Fuel or Burger Wisconsin. The reason I rated a 4 though was the cost of the meal was expensive and visually didn't satisfy me totally. However still an epic place to eat and way better than the Burger Kings of the world.

Second try, trying to eat at Velvet Burger in Auckland. The first time there was a line out the door that wasn't moving, so we ended up leaving and going somewhere else. <br/><br/>Anyway we managed to get in last night, we ordered the Squawk burger and a scoop of fatties. Comparing Burger Fuel, Murder Burger and Velvet Burger - velvet sits somewhere in the middle. Good quality burgers with most things done right, juicy patty, fresh salad, soft toasty bun. Found the bread to meat/burger was a bit off. Don't think it would be a problem with some of the more filling burgers but for the Squawk it was a big too much bread. Chips were a bit underdone but generous in size.<br/><br/>Store itself has lots of atmosphere and feels more like a chilled bar than a burger joint. Nice ambience if you go down the back. Worth a visit if you like your burgers.
LouLou
Inconsistent in their burger size and sometimes a little touch and go on the gluten free friendliness - on one visit, my partner got offered two bottoms to the bun because they had nothing else in stock. How does that even happen? Burgers on a gluten free bun end up to be quite expensive. I do like the vegetarian options, however reckon they should offer more in the mini size for the smaller appetites among us.
Donovan Smith
Went to the Fort st joint. Takeaway.<br/>Got the Big Brown. Size was good but I felt it was a bit dry. I couldn't tell if there was any relish or the like on it. I personally like a burger that oozes sauces and relishes. <br/>The fries are a rip off. Don't bother getting them.
Victoria
Love velvet burger! First tried them down in Dunedin as a visiting Aussie and haven't looked back. These are a bit more manageable than Burger Fuel in my opinion and flavour and menu are great. Be back soon.
Annie Ren
Absolutely love Velvet Burger and their special Tuesdays! First gourmet burger that I've ever tasted and fell in love with its trademark "Velvet Burger" ever since. Love the black pepper tang and the tangy, juicy patty with a slice of pineapple. Portion is huge and the bun is very crusty. Both of their potato and kumara chips are also kiwi classics that shouldn't be missed! Love Velvet
Reuben Pereira
Some of the best burgers in Auckland! The hottie and the Velvet lady are classics. Add bacon to all burgers can't go wrong! I also highly recommend chilli Mayo as a dip with the hashies! Awesome service, friendly staff and a cool sit down place. Also love the 2 for 1 deals on Tuesday's!
Gentlepig
After all these years, Velvet Burger's charisma and quality of its burgers still remains the top of my table. 3 years throughout University, my friends and I have always visited on Tuesdays; usually burger joints are good because a) they've got giagantic burgers or b) grease, delicious grease. True to its name Velvet Burger is one of the few that pull off a classy, yet slightly devilishly delicious burger.
Grubking
Sinful burgers and amazing bread (they don't make their own, but wherever they get it from, it is awesome!) Fries aren't half bad either. The only better thing to have in here is more beers on tap, and no other burger place could beat it!<br/>¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Dann
Have dined here twice, no more, Flavor? Where is it? Its a she's sad day when the fries and hash bites taste better than the burgers, on both occasions two different burgers were ordered and zero taste decent size but no real meaty juicy fresh flavor, can't quite pin point what it was but the patties had a mad butcher pre cooked defrosted taste to them, or the type of cheese, in any case very disappointed
Torra
I had a simple beef burger ($8.9). The taste of the patty was very good. The texture of the buns were nice as well. The combination of aioli sauce and tomato sauce was excellent. <br/><br/>Next, I had a venison burger. The patty was a little too spicy and I could not taste the venison which was a bit pity.<br/><br/>Over all, however, I enjoyed their burgers and want to try other burgers next visit.
Tyler De Vries
Came here for a great Friday team lunch, burger buns were cold, meat wasn't warm! Staff were not overly friendly, sort of throwing food down onto the table. <br/>Chips and hashies were very delicious with ample sauce.
Gianina Castro
Delicious burgers! The portion is huge. I have a small appetite yet I most often still manage to finish them. Tuesdays are the best days to eat here as they usually have the 2 for 1 Tuesday deals making these burgers wayyy worth it.
Annette Wong
Burgers hold a very special place in my heart. Il almost go anywhere for a good burger. I have been wanting to try this place for a long while. I had a velvet burger-venison burger without the pineapple. The patty and buns were on the larger side compared to better burger and burger burger buns. Quite fresh but, not enough sauce to my liking. <br/><br/>It came at a good price and the atmosphere was fantastic. <br/><br/>I would recommend this place to burger lovers
Jean Lee
First time at velvet burger - the experience was amazing! The amosphere was chill and would be great for a casual dinner or drinks with friends. It was very busy on a Friday night. We had The Stag and The Velvet Burger with a scoop of skinny fries. The cost of the burgers are reasonable as they are big and hearty. There are a lot of seating and the menu is simple but extensive! Would definitely be coming here again!
Josh Law
Good tasting burgers. Use 2 for 1 meal deal regularly. 12 bux for a big burger would be quite ridiculous though. Service can take a very long time on tuesday lunch time, but that is understandable given the deal.
Davey Schilling
Velvet burger has awesome burgers and are worth a visit if you like burgers. I have had the burger with portobello and blue cheese, since I really love both of them. The taste of the mushroom and cheese we're not really present and did not add to the tasty burger.
Sungsam7
Good tasting burgers although nothing to write home to Aunty about. Slow service and it wasn't all the busy this particular day we were there. The tables could have done with a good wipe down and the rubbish on the floors...not a great first impression esp when having lunch.
Dan
I recently went to Velvet burger after quite a few years. I used to get the Velvet lady so thought I would get it again with some "skinny" fries with aioli. I went on a Thursday night and it was fairly busy. There only appeared to be 2 cooking, so accepted the fact that I may need to wait a while. Well I did have to wait but it was quicker than I expected. The Velvet lady is as good as I remembered it to be, so were the chips. Velvet burger provide bottles of water and glasses for patrons. Its very similar to Burger fuel, but I prefer Velvet burger, the burgers don't taste as 'mass-produced' in my opinion. THey have a nice variety of burgers too!
Ryan Lal
Been a regular here for a few years now and I got to say this place is a perfect place for a lunch with your co-workers or fellow Uni friends. Its a solid pub style burger joint in the heart of the city. Great vibe and decor, staff are always friendly and the toilets are clean. <br/><br/>Food wise, the burgers are MASSIVE and they should be for the price you pay! I usually get the Velvet Lady and its got to be one of my favorites. Also, you can't go wrong with the skinnies and the Aioli is one of the best I have ever tried.
Doug Surtees
Worked upstairs at FSU. Eaten here multiple times - each time been satisfied. Cool staff who always greet and smiling upon entry. Keep it up!
Brave Eat
Dirty dishes and burnt buns, not happy with the service either very unfriendly. I have been here few times with friends but always feel unwelcomed. Burger is very dry and never enough sauce. Very expansive for very bad burgers.
Jay
This place is pretty average. They really need to be more coherent with their orders and their menu. A bit overpriced too. Their menu is also weird.
Queena
Sorry but this place needs to get their sh*t together. Came here on Easter Sunday around 7.30pm and we not only were we told that they were doing takeaways only but could still eat in, it took them 30mins to give us our burgers and wedges. Not only that, the lady got my order wrong which I didn't say anything cos by that time we were STARVING and did not want to wait another 30mins for a burger. <br/><br/>While I was waiting, I overheard another customer who had waited (over?) half an hour for his burger and had still not arrived, whereas his partners burger had already arrived. I saw he got his money back. <br/><br/>We should've got a refund but too helluva hungry to go look elsewhere. But me and my partner are never going to come back here. <br/><br/>They ran out of stuff (i.e. Mini bread buns, kumara chips) were clearly understaffed. On the bright side, their customer service was friendly. <br/><br/>
Zoupitup
mixed experience - fantastic burgers once ... last visit was beyond pathetic and with guests in tow - severe disappointment - ordered extras on burgers - got the most lousy quantity for it. have not returned since.
Marina Harding
Seriously the best burger joint I have EVER been too. A bit pricey but definitely worth it!! We went here for a reward from my tutor at course. I had the Babe Burger it was delicious. Meat cooked to perfection, salad fresh and crispy. We also got kumara chips that were so crisp and crunchy its quite hard to find good kumara chips but theres were on point. They also have combos as well. I had a very good experience here and I cant wait to go back :)
Chris Devlin
Absolutely the best burger joint in town.. I always eat way too much. Definitely try the hottie and the babe.. Plus the fries are fantastic.
Jeremy
Serves terrific big burgers with innovative flavours and original specials. Great location with plenty of seating and space to eat out front in the sun. Be sure to like them on Facebook for their Tuesday specials.
Eli A
The best burgers ever!!!! My favorite is the Hottie- spicy with a hint of sweet from the mango. And the patty is amazing. Even the burger bun is tasty.
James
Shit atmosphere. No menus to choose from. Food tasted average too. With many other burger bars in Auckland to choose from I won't be coming back. Stick to burger fuel.
Kershia
This place makes an awesome burger. Had their spicy burger option and it was yum. Same with the fries :) really enjoyed this place. It's also a very nice setting to done in. Highly recommend. I'm a burger fan and their food is seriously good.
Phil Hodai
Went to velvet burger with a work mate after a hard long 14 hour day on the tools. Ordered a Goneburger as I was starving and wanted something massive and filling to end the day with.<br/><br/>I was utterly disappointed to say the least. The chicken looked like a frozen crumbed tegel slice you can buy from the supermarket, beef patty may aswel have been out of a frozen watties pack.<br/><br/>To top it off it was nowhere near as big as promised and tasted rather plane and dry.<br/><br/>I'm a huge burger enthusiast and usually find some joy in even the crappiest burgers but this was a total let down. <br/><br/>Have not and will not go back again.
Jay Lee
Awesome burgers and awesome staff when I first went there to dine in. The second time I went, I went to grab some burgers to takeaway one of the staff was very inattentive and very unfriendly. Was quite disappointed with that but still very tasty burgers at a very decent price.
Hassan Qaiser
Tuesday's 2 for 1 deal - you can never go wrong with that. Burgers are amazing!! I will defiantly recommend this to everyone. The place has ample seating and the vintage look, hands down amazing ;)
Sonam Kumar
went here with 5 work mates on tuesday to take advantage of the 2 for 1 deal. Most of us ordered the big bird and 1 person ordered the big bro. We all loved the burgers. They were decent sized and full of ingredients even though it was 2 for 1 deal. The food tasted fresh as well. My friend from Canada said it was the best burger she has ever had. We will be making Velvet Burger a regular thing on Tuesdays now.
Amy Webb
Velvet Burger is another of Aucklands great burger joints. It can be a bit pricey but the burgers are such good quality. Their loyalty club is excellent, with regular freebies and discounts.<br/><br/>I ordered the vege burger, which easily the best I've ever had. The flavours were powerful and the pattie was very similar to a falafel, but not oily at all. My friend ordered the Stag burger which came with blue cheese sauce which was extremely tasty.<br/><br/>The service is friendly and quick. Considering how busy it was, we were eating very soon after we ordered.
James Woods
Best burgers ever. Slightly long wait for me, even though I didn't dine during peak hours, but well worth the wait
KitKat
Went here on a Friday night, ordered 2 burgers and 2 fries. Burgers arrived promptly (although they messed up the order - to their credit this was fixed without fuss) and were pretty good but 20 mins after having finished our burgers, there was still no sign of the fries. We asked where they were and were promised they were coming - 10 minutes later and still no fries so we walked out. The food is good here, but they are poorly organized and managed - lots of young staff and no older person in charge overseeing things. Such a shame as that alone means I won't go back (especially when there are other good burger places nearby). The service does a disservice to the Velvet Burger reputation/brand.
Thomas W
Not even lukewarm, flavours were good but at this price we'll be enjoying other local burgeries long before we try here again..<br/><br/>Venison is featured strongly, most burgers are venison rather than beef. I thought this was going to be great, but again, burgers not hot at all.<br/><br/>Aioli was very good, potato fries average, Burger Mechanix in the Downtown Foodcourt or Burger Fuel are better overall. <br/><br/>Velvet: great potential, but do the job properly. Must try harder.
Mandy
I tried the mini vension burger as I wasn't too hungry and hadn't tried vension before. It was pretty good for what I paid for it but the wait time was quite a while. I'll definitely be back to try the other burgers!
Rom SpaceKnight
Had Velvet Burger (Venison) with fries and Chilli Mayo and it was pretty good. Wait time was bit lengthy given that the place was almost empty on a Sunday afternoon, not sure why, maybe it just takes longer to make quality burger. I'd definitely be back to try the 'Hottie' burger. I did a takeaway but it seems like a great place to wash down a burger and fries with nice chilled beer.
Miss Kiki
I have been here 3 times, I really like the flavour of their beef patty, it is really full of flavour and delicious. <br/>It is a bit on the thin side, I think I would give it 5 stars if the wait time is shorter and if the patty is a bit thicker, it does kind of get lost in the bun a little bit.
Yusoff Kamal
I really enjoy my Squak Dawg! One of the best burger I ever had.<br/><br/>As for the staff who serve us...she done a good job. She did accidentally spill some of the fries out of the bowl while serving. She left the bowl on our table and came back with another bowl of fries for no charge. (Now that's good service!) <br/><br/>Well done.<br/><br/>For someone new to this branding...I have to say, they left me with a good impression and I will definitely be back for more.<br/><br/>Love the ambiance and great place to catch up with friends.
Big Eddie G
When does a good burger review become a bad burger review?<br/><br/>When the staff decide it's better to loiter down the back than to serve paying customers. I have had good burgers here in the past, but i've seen it go downhill, especially in the customer service department, and btw, could you turn the music down? Its way too loud
Aidan M
Quite simply - delicious burgers and fries with good service.<br/>Table service needs some attention.
Glen McGrath
Worst burger ever! Order a Big Bird, got a BIG bun, got stuff all chicken, maybe the size of a golf ball lumped in the middle, never go there again, would have been better of at Maccas for a third of the price!
Asish
The restaurant started well with great burgers and service. However, the last couple of times I have been there the burgers have taken a long time to get to me. Good burgers but the service is slow.
Liam
Had the Velvet burger as I was keen to see what the venison tasted like.<br/><br/>Didn't have to wait too long. Strangely got my burger before the guy who was already waiting when I arrived (maybe he had a bigger order...).<br/><br/>Burger was hot, fresh, and tasty. Nice, crisp veges, properly cooked pattie, slightlyspicy chilli-mayo=all good. Would eat again. <br/><br/>The volume of the music playing in shop could be turned down a notch or two to make ordering/conversation easier.
Adeline
I've had Velvet Burger heaps of times during my study in Dunedin, so was pretty stoked when they decided to open a branch here. We've had its burgers several times and introduced friends to them as well. I would have to say the burgers still taste the same, so the quality is still there. However, eating there is not a pleasant experience, as many tables are not cleared after its customers. Maybe they are understaffed, I don't know? But it's definitely an unpleasant sight...
SophB
First time customers, got a burger each to takeaway and were sorely disappointed. Yes the buns are big but the filling is lacking - just one onion ring and one slice of tomato in my Endeavour burger! The fish was luke-warm and the dressing needed more salt. $12 and I was still hungry afterwards.
Jun S
Simply the best burger I ever ate! Fast and friendly service from the team, beautiful burger. I hope they kept their standard! (too bad if they are not as what the first review said).
KirstyT
Based on my visit in Jan 2011: fast, friendly service. Something for the meaties, veggies &amp; vegans. Velvet Lady &amp; Animal Rights (mushroom) were delicious! Also sell booze. Shame if the standard has dropped (as mentioned below) as they have a good thing going here.
Bobby Gee
We have tried this crowd several times. Initially the standard of food was awesome, but over the period Jan 2011 to Mar 2011 the service has quickly declined and the quality of food is now appalling. Concept great, tried very hard to accept that would get better, but unfortunately not :( , grossly understaffed.

Amazing burgers at great prices!<br/><br/>I've been in Auckland for nearly 5 years now, and whenever I want a good burger I head down to Velvet Burger!<br/><br/>The amount if choices they have for burgers is amazing, and the fact that each and every burger pattie can be replaced with either tofu, portobello or falafel patties.<br/><br/>The fatties are also amazing! With that yoghurt relish they have available as well. Ohhhh man! Just divine!
Shan Hooper
Yum yum yum! Great service love this place, there whole menu is delicious love the burger variety
Helena Chen
I've visited Velvet Burger on a number of occasions, and while they are usually very good, I have had a few not so grand experiences. I understand that it does get very busy there sometimes, but I once waited over 30 minutes for my order. This I feel is a little too long for a burger joint; even at a restaurant, that would be pushing it for me. The burgers were also pretty sloppy and falling apart when I finally got home to eat them.<br/><br/>However, i can't deny that when they get it right, the burgers are pretty delicious, and who can say no to their fries. I like the sit-down area they have inside; the first few times I went there, I didn't even realise it went back so far! They also have a great 2 for 1 deal on Tuesdays, which makes them really affordable.
Vivien @ KJAS Blog
Pictured is the Goneburger and a full scoop of Fatties, which is what they call their thick chunky fries. These were pretty good, although very salty especially near the bottom where you have to carefully pick out the teensy fries at the bottom without coating your fingers in rock salt. Apparently if you finish the Goneburger, you deserve a high five. Well, high five me, everyone. I finished it off with space to spare for a second lunch. Yes, I eat too much...high metabolism problems :P<br/><br/>That being said, Velvet Burger does seriously generous sized burgers that most people would probably be very satisfied finishing off. No place does them bigger and better than here as far as I know. None of that limp oily business here. Just strong flavour combinations between perky-looking hamburger buns. They've got heaps of space for you to eat in and enjoy your burger, and the service is happy and fantastic.<br/><br/>With a thick beef patty, crumbed chicken patty and slices of streaky bacon, the Goneburger was meat galore. All of the meat was excellent, and there was enough salad to balance it out. The aioli and relish were sparing, so you weren't dripping everywhere, but the bun had soaked enough of it to give the burger's flavour another dimension. Most of all, the sheer size of the burger is astonishing. I take tiny bites, so my companion was pretty amused watching me attack the burger. <br/><br/>Velvet Burger also has some great vegetarian options, not to fear! Kumara and coriander patty, anyone? <br/><br/>P.S. I live for the 2 for 1 Tuesdays. Password on their Facebook page.

My favourite burger place at the moment or maybe I can say, I just love the atmosphere around Fort Street area. The price of the burgers is higher if you will compare to other burger places. However, you'll see a huge difference on what are the inside ingredients of their burgers, probably sort of healthier than others like their Velvet Lady burger with salads and chicken breast mainly for women who go to gym or health conscious, it's a little bit guilt free to eat. Moreover, Velvet Burger is the only burger place I know, if I'm not mistaken, that offers tiny hash browns as sidings and I always order that together with any kind of burger.
Fridayu
Visited Velvet burger for a quick dinner before a concert. We enjoyed our meal, burgers were big and the place offers a great selection of burgers from Vegetarian to the Big Brown or even the Goneburger. <br/>I definitely prefer Velvet burger to fast food chains, Why not enjoy better quality, better taste and better service?<br/>Affordable and friendly, I would come back and maybe challenge myself to a bigger burger! :)
Abhi Bidani
They know burgers. Amazing taste and it is well worth the $$
Danny
Burgers are a thing Auckland does well. And if you're feeling those cravings, you can't go wrong with a Velvet Burger. Each burger is made from quality ingredients supplemented with that southern kiwi touch. The result is something quite unique. Fancy some beets in your burger? Velvet Burger has you sorted.<br/><br/>The location is great and the staff are friendly and energetic - orders don't take long here. I will admit though, I've been slightly disappointed a number of times when they ran out of kumara chips. I hope they sort this out! <br/><br/>Next time you're in the city, skip the McDonald's and give Velvet Burger a try. Better yet, come here with a friend on a Tuesday and you can get two burgers for the price of one (check out their Facebook page for this deal). The Goneburger and the Big Bro are highly recommended!

Velvet burger is a quirky little burger bar near the bottom of town. The menu is extremely unique with burgers you've probably never seen or heard of before. There are plenty of seats inside and outside so its a good place for birthdays or what not. The food being unique, is also very delicious and the portions are definitely filling. <br/><br/>Would recommend this place to anyone in the CBD.<br/><br/>Woof.

Our pick for hand-made burgers in the CBD. Velvet originates from Dunedin and has brought its southern vibe with it. Velvet is located in a historic building in the revitalized Fort Street area and is perfect for a casual bite with a beer or wine or a family outing. Try the lamb burger. Even the vegetarian burger is good. For the full review and menu recommendations go to http://cheapeats.co.nz/velvet-burger/

I went to Velvet burger for the first time for lunch yesterday. What a selection! It took my friend and I while to choose but we settled on the Velvet Lady with added beetroot (what is a burger without beetroot?) and the Homegrown with beetroot & horopito chutney with a side of kumara fries. The Velvet lady was fantastic! The chicken breast was lovely and moist and the salad crisp. I went through about 7 napkins which is always a sign of a good burger. The homegrown was tasty but not on the same level as the Velvet Lady. The sauce was a bit sweet and over powering so I will go for the minty yoghurt sauce, aioli & velvet relish option instead next time. The fries were nice and crispy and were served with a healthy amount of aioli. There's nothing more disappointing than ordering fries and getting a paltry amount of dip only enough for a quarter of the fries. They also have a great beer selection including Moa, Tuatara, Epic and Emerson's. I'll definitely be going back.

Their burgers are to die for! I visit Velvet Burger when I'm craving the Homegrown or the Velvet Lady. They are priced higher than your standard fast food burger joints (McD, BK, KFC, Wendys), but its totally worth it! <br/><br/>The burgers are made to order, and taste great every time. The combo comes with Fatties or Skinnies (fries) with Aioli dips, or you can also opt in for Kumara chips. <br/><br/>Lamb, Venison, Chicken, Beef burgers all come in big or small sized portions, so its good for the super hungry as well as the not-so-hungry :)
