Review Bestie Cafe - Auckland Central

Darren Ren
If you're an early bird or just lucky, you'll be able to sit at the window and take in the amazing view over Myers Park. Food was good too. Nice touch with the jelly served with toastie.
Geonju Park
The coffee was quite cold and not the best taste as you can see the latte art in the photo. Compare to their reputation, I was disappointed on their coffee quality as I like eighthirty beans. The view from the table was good. Staff were not that friendly but all good.

Delicious breakfast spot and we were lucky to get a great view at the top table! We both enjoyed the cheese toastie with the chili egg and homemade pickles. The turmeric latte was the perfect flavor. Great ambiance and a winner all around.

Loved the place, the staff is more than nice, all smiling and taking care of you. The food was excellent, the maple cookie was one of the best I ever had. Loved the vibe and great view over the park and skycity tower! Totally recommend this place.

Hands down the best Chai latte I've tried. And I don't say that lightly! Cozy place with open space to sit inside or having views to the tower. A chai and a black coffee (with refill) for 11nzd.

It was love at the first sight… The atmosphere is amazing, the place is gorgeous, the service is great and the food is amazing. We had the free range eggs that was delicious, and the pancakes that were the dye for. I highly recommend this place!

Would recommend getting the chili fried eggs! Everything we ordered was delicious. The atmosphere is super pretty, however, the service was unfriendly. Coffee was very very good but sadly no latte art

Simply amazing! Had the chili butter fried eggs on sourdough with a side of avocado & my husband ordered the stack of pancakes with bacon. Everything was so tasty & flavorful! We also got the green smoothies which were also great. Definitely recommend this place!

The food and coffee are super good! The chili fried egg toast 🥰 (asked for the egg well-done)

Lovely hip cafe for all ages with a view of the Skytower. Cute decor adds to it. Yummy food especially the shoestring fries. Good coffee.

You can always rely on Bestie for great food, great coffee and great service. The cardamom rice porridge topped with with rhubarb and oat crumble is to die for. It’s comforting and flavoursome yet feels like a healthy breakfast that keeps you going all day. My dad got the bubble & squeak with bacon which was pretty salty, but not in a bad way. We also shared a side of the deep fried halloumi which is a must-try

Four Words: Jelly. Tip. French. Toast! Enough Said 😋

Came to try out the new Jelly Tip French toast
Great balance of chocolate, ice cream, Graham crackers and dehydrated raspberries. Could have called it a smore and it definitely left me wanting s'more!

I had a cold brew- their ambience is great. Especially I liked the vintage inside and sky tower view.
Also the staff were kind and friendly.
Next time I will try their branch menu.:)

Great location at the back of St Kevin’s Arcade. Scored the window seat on the ledge overlooking both the arcade and Myers Park - the perfect spot. They use Eightirty coffee and it is strong and really good.
Dora The Food Explorer
One of Auckland’s top 50 cafes. And its not hard to see why. They stay away from the norm and put interesting original dishes on their menu. We had the Flat bread with labneh, chilli fried egg, pickles and jalapeño popper. Well balanced of flavours not to mention the spice from the chillies. Amazing food. 9/10
Nicola
Amazing. Go here. Can’t wait to go back and try everything on the menu
Misavour
The menu isn’t your typical breakfast/brunch menu. They have interesting flavour combinations. I ordered the mustard mushrooms. I love mushrooms and I like mustard but I was worried the mustard would overpower the dish but I was wrong! It surprisingly yummy. Lots of mushrooms too. I came with four friends & none of us enjoyed the coffee very much. It had a strange sour taste and the coffee was a tad weak. It was a real shame because we loved the food. Would’ve given it 4 stars if the coffee was good.
Rose
The food is great although can be quite expensive for what you get, it does also get very very busy if coming in large groups. The waitress who served us was quite ignorant.

First time having lunch here on a weekend - It was great to see the sun shining and people chatting compared to the cold quiet atmosphere when I used to have a quick breakfast before work (which has a merit of its own, their muesli is delicious as well).
Lunch was great, I ordered their french toast + bacon and it was just the right amount of sweetness with thick bread along with poached fejoa and icecream. Portion wise it was perfect for me, but my friends thought the portion was smaller than other places.
My friends ordered the flatbread with chorizo, and the eggs on sourdough dish + mushroom + halloumi fries (yummy)
Service is great, might take a bit longer to grab someone's attention as it is busy but once attended to all is prompt. There was no highchair so take note to take your own baby seat if required :)

I rarely go to cafes if you had noticed it, the flavours I got from these places does not match with the flavour profile that I want and grew up with but sometimes there are places that are exceptions like this place we have now. Bestie Cafe located in K’Roads St Kevin’s Arcade is one of those, this hip and vintage like cafe may not look inviting to most but they do serve some great food. The place looks old, the menu will freak out the inner OCD in you but who cares if the food is great especially when you are seated on that big window that looks over Myers Park.

No. 20 of 56 cafes on Urban Lists “Top Breakfast Cafes” list. This was absolutely delicious. I chose the salmon fish cake. It delivered on taste & presentation. My pet peeve with cafes is when they say their eggs are poached, when they are either hard boiled, or even soft boiled where the yolk does not run. Bestie cafe knows how to poach eggs that’s for sure!

I absolutely loved the different textures in this dish. From the crunch of the crispy kale, to the creaminess of that purée. The fishcake was crumbed beautifully & was cooked perfectly.

Their coffee was good too. They use eighthirty beans. Even though there were very busy when I arrived, I reckon they still served the food at a decent time & I wasn’t waiting forever. So thank you, Bestie Cafe.

2 cafes down, 54 to go.

Love Bestie cafe, the location is hidden in Kevin’s Arcade but the view is gorgeous and it has a menu to match.

The menu always switches up and features very unique items. This time round I opted for the Feijoa French Toast and I was pleasantly surprised!

The French Toast almost tasted like cake, the ice cream was creamy but not overly sweet and the feijoas had a lovely tart flavour. The combination went really well together and I am glad I tried it!

Great spot to grab brunch with your bestie
Cheapeatobsession
Such a cute and aesthetically pleasing place. St kevin’s arcade is so fun and unique. Great range of food including amazing vegan options! Great quality and well presented food options. Can sit up and look over a view of the city, great sunlight, overall just a nice place to sit and eat lunch.

Another cafe we’ve been meaning to hit for a while was the Bestie cafe. We managed to finally go on Saturday lunchtime. The wait staff are excellent and told us from the outset there would be a 30min wait for food so the wait didn’t seem as long. We ordered the the tandoori battered fish and the mexican beans with chilli fried eggs. The fish was devine and the surprise was the pickled fennel which went really well with the fish. Coffee’s were solid as well.

Checked out bestie and st kevins arcade for breakfast this morning. Nice little spot over looking a gully. Went for the chilli fried egg on sourdough with bacon and potato hash, the chilli fried egg was really good and i think ill try to replicate these at home. Ate the left over donuts i liked these as they reminded me of berliners maybe a tad dry but what do you expect from breakfast donuts. Maybe icecream?

It has a fairly nice location at the back of St. Kevins Arcade overlooking Myers Park. Quite a few tables so it wasn't hard getting one.

The menu is very interesting and the options are different from standard cafes, which is a good thing. They have plenty of gluten-free, and vegan options, which is rare.

I tried the almond rolled egg with curried pumpkin hummus. It wasn't what I was expecting, a deep-fried egg in an almond crumb. Instead, it was a (perfectly) boiled egg rolled in sesame seeds. After the initial disappointment, I tried it was blown away with the flavour. It tasted of a nicely spiced curry with the bhaji giving crispness and the pickled fennel adding a bit of tartness and sweetness. I do feel there should have been a bit more almond in the dish.

The hot chocolate here is alright. They also have cabinet food inside the shop if the menu items didn't pique your interest. Nice cafe, probably for those with dietary restrictions, but also nice if you don't have any.

Great hidden place! Coffee was good and but he highlight were the Baps! They were delicious and affordable! Definitely worth a shot! The pastries also looked pretty good

A lovely cafe situated inside St Kevin’s Arcade providing a sunny dining environment.

Service: 7/10
We stood by the entrance sign for a long time while the workers just looked at us.
When we were finally serviced, the lady was pretty nice and brought us water. The others waiters also checked up on us while we were eating to see if we needed anything. Their attitude was pretty good but not spectacular.
The food was made in a short amount of time.

Food: 6/10
We ordered the peanut butter donuts, the flatbread with spicy chorizo, a flat white and a peach crumble cake.
The donuts weren’t really crispy on the outside and didn’t taste like peanut butter, but the inside was soft, and fluffy like a pillow.
The peach crumble cake was soooo crunchy on the top but the sides weren’t. The sweetness of the frosting and crumble contrasted the tartness of the chunks of peaches, so it wasn’t overwhelming.
The spicy chorizo was quite greasy and the bread wasn’t crispy, and was hard to cut through.

Ambiance: 9/10
The cafe is inside an old fashioned arcade alongside many other restaurants which feels slightly like a food court, and gets quite noisy.
There is a big glass window and ceiling window allowing natural sunlight to shine through. The big window also provides a wonderful view of the city.
There were cute flowers displayed around the cafe and on the table to magnify the beauty of spring.

I wouldn’t say this is the best cafe I’ve been to as the menu options don’t really appeal to me, but it is certainly one of the best on K Road.

First time I visited I tried the menu - getting a cheese toastie with pickles and i also got an iced chocolate. I wasn’t overly impressed the toasted sandwich lacked any flavour and my iced chocolate tasted far too milky, I only ended up having a few sips.

However, today I tried the cabinet food and it was amazing. I had a chicken kebab sandwich and a snickers slice. The sammy was really tasty and fresh. The snickers slice was super indulgent and the layer of caramel was amazing. Will defs be back for more of my work lunch breaks.

Came in for a birthday breakfast with my friend today. We ordered the donuts, rice pudding, mocha and grapefruit vanilla. Donuts were tasty and jam tasted fresh. Rice pudding was creamy and the mango puree gave it a little sourness. The grapefruit vanilla tasted real good! Loved how sweet it was. The mocha came with one pink marshmallow and size was average.

This was my second time coming to Bestie and it did not disappoint me. Loved the atmosphere and how different it was from other cafes. Definitely a good place to bring your bestie for breakfast or lunch. Although I wish I could get the window seat next time.

The menu was a bit confusing with a long description for each dish. I ordered the Falafel Flatbread and it tasted absolutely amazing. Bestie offers Middle Eastern inspired food and I've never had anything like it before.

For drinks, I got an iced coffee but it tasted pretty average. The good thing was they served the drinks with metal straws and that's not commonly seen at cafes or restaurants. Nonetheless, I really like how they are considerate of the environment.

If you're hunting for a cute cafe that has amazing food then you can't miss Bestie.

Atmosphere: 5/5
Customer Service: 4/5
Taste: 5/5

Best fried eggs on sourdough ever!!!!! Chilli fried eggs are actually to die for. Mean staff. Mean food. We always come here and every time it’s a great time. Everything is really reasonably priced as well!!!
Emily
Very disappointing.
Wanted to go there for a long time (since it is in the Metro top 10) and finally made it today. Menu not much to look for. Food was alright but over priced. The service was friendly but they didn’t pay much attention to detail. The tea and hot water didn’t come (we ordered them with food), I reminded the staff when we were in the half way having our meals, and we waited for another 15 minutes to get our tea and 1 hot water (we ordered 2).
By the way they charged for the hot water ( x2, but only 1 came) , which surprised me and I didn’t feel good about it. I’ve been to a couple dozen of different cafes in Auckland and none of them charged for the hot water.
The overall experience is not present and we won’t go there again.
Quinn Mai
I’m in love with this place’s vibe. Didnt think a cafe in an arcade could be this awesome. Friendly service. Nice coffee. Will come back for the window seats :).
Rita Ge
The food taste alright, not amazing but not bad.
But the service is not so great. We found a quite big piece of egg shell in one dish, so we told the waitress, but instead of saying sorry and what they can do to make up to us, she asked us ‘so what do you want?’ in a not friendly way.
We don’t think this place is a 4.3 🤨

The chilli fried egg was delicious. Potato hash was amazing. The sourdough was over toasted and had soaked a lot of the butter? Making it hard to cut. Overall a nice cafe

Service: 4☆
Food: 2.5☆
Environment: 3.5☆

Friendly staff. Nice environment.
But the menu lacks variety and the flavors are abit too strong and salty. ( we ordered scrambled eggs on sourdough and flatbread with chorizo, everything on the flatbread have strong flavours: the pickles are very sour, the mince was very salty, etc. The sourdough was hard.) Drinks are average.
It was a pleasant experience but nothing really stands out.
Pinnu88
We ordered fried chilli eggs and scrambled eggs with sourdough and hash browns . The breakfast was really good although the coffee was pretty average. They were pretty busy which tells that the other items on the menu must be pretty good too.
Nice place for brunch with K road vibe.

So glad I found this cute little spot! My iced mocha tasted SOOOOO good plus i very much enjoyed my eggs on sour dough. they fry their eggs really well and it tastes good when it's a little spicy. such good customer service! i'm definitely coming back for more!!!!

This review certainly has been a long time coming and I appreciate all of my fans for being ever so patient. Bestie is the crown jewel of K’Rd’s cafe scene and for good reason, what the team at Bestie manage to accomplish on a daily basis is nothing short of perfection. From the slow roasted tomato & their mushrooms to the exquisite team work, every meal is delivered with consistent flair, in fact they are so good my dad Brent essentially lives there. Thank you Bestie for your amazing commitment to providing the highest quality food and beverage coupled with 5 star hospitality.

This place is special. Definitely a hidden in the middle of K road. Felt like we were in Melbourne!
Service was quick and friendly despite being a busy Saturday morn. Only gripe is that there isn’t too much to choose from on the menu, but we were definitely happy with what we had!
Picky Diner
Amazing mix of flavours and textures give you an out of the world culinary delight. No words of praise are less for the chefs - smoked salmon sauerkraut and mustard, doughnuts like never before, almond egg roll, and not to the least my younger one had scrambled eggs for first time and finished it all! Keep it up guys, cheers

My sister and I both had the vegetarian roll. It was big and super tasty packed with beetroot and other veges. We also had a beetroot and carrot drink which was good. The staff were friendly.

Cutest wee cafe in the Arcade on K road. Beautiful ambiance and cabinet food looked amazing!
Was hoping for the pancakes but had a menu change, and didn’t feel like much on the menu sadly. I opted for scrambled eggs and bacon but it was pretty plain, and over cooked watery eggs. My friend had the dukha crusted egg which looked amazing and she said was pretty good.
Was hoping for a bit more from this gem but will come back when pancakes make it back on the menu!!

Seriously this place hits the spot every time! Those bottomless cups of coffee, can’t beat 3 cups of joe on one sitting! I had this chickpea with halloumi chips and my friend had the same. It was just superb. I had merryfilled food flashbacks for the next 3 days! 😁 too stuff! Good krd !
Auckland Foodie
I loved the atmosphere of this place. It is hidden away in St. Kevin’s Arcade of K‘road and has an open space with stunning views of Auckland and the skytower. Very friendly staff, good coffee and yummy food. Ordered the dukkah rolled eggs with haloumi fries and it looks and tasted nice. A bit small for the price but definitely worth it.

What a great experience. Loved my coconut rice pudding and my friend had the mini doughnuts. The ambience is perfect for a cafe and everyone around us looked so relaxed. I’d recommend Bestie for those who just want to enjoy a great, positive cafe experience.

Bestie is such a gem.

Ambience: Love the open space and the seating arrangement. So much light and plants. Love the pink tone of the wall indoor with the collection of customer photos. Not to mention a spectacular view of the Sky Tower.

Service: Spot on. Very friendly and prompt. They really do their best to comply with demands. Also they did explained well when I have questions regarding menu. It makes a big difference to me every time I visit a place that people are nice and act professional.

Food: My favorite is the apple put doughnuts with salted caramel sauce, not just because I’m a sweet tooth. I also tried the deep fried chicken with coleslaw. It tasted great but a bit too oily. Also the coating needs to be thicker. Ice chocolate is excellent, love the ice cream on top and the reusable straw.

Overall, I’m definitely gonna visit more often and try more dishes.

I really like the location of Bestie; beautiful greenery at the back of an arcade with lots of natural light. It’s great on Saturday morning, but note that the café is relatively popular even before 10am.

Overall, the portions were a tad small for the price but I was surprisingly full, and their coffee is on point. Menu-wise, I’d say it’s not your typical range for breakfast; Bestie seems to lean more towards vegetarian options that are healthy and have a slight Mediterranean twist.

I had the dukkah rolled egg, where the highlights were those two delicious haloumi fries. The freedom loaf was average tasting, but I loved the beetroot purée.

Mum had scrambled eggs on hard sourdough. The eggs were good but I would’ve preferred them a little less mixed and a little less wet.

Glad that we tried the menu and their friendly service, but I'd say this is a venue that’s skewed more towards vegetarians, rather than the traditional meat + carbs crowd like me.

Called in here for Bike Auckland breakfast (thanks to K Road Bussiness Association) on Thursday 5 April 2018. Had delicious latte with coconut milk - yum, and this awsome meal. Chorizo & fried egg on pita with a selection of pickles (my gut health won't know what hit it). Very clean & organised eating in Arcade so feels outdoors but cover from the weather.

Came here during a weekday just after 9am. It wasn’t too busy, and the food came out quickly. I got a cheese scroll and iced mocha. I really liked the iced mocha and the cheese scroll was decent.

The atmosphere in the arcade is nice and chill, with good views. Great place to take photos if that’s what you’re into. I’ll definitely be returning to try some of their desserts since I’ve heard great things.

Prime location, awesome view and great food! So, plenty of reasons for trying Bestie.

Love the deep fried doughnuts. the coffe is not the best you can have around, but worth a try.

Like to go there when I need to get inspiration in the morning. view is breathtaking :)
Vanessa Gao
Came here for a small morning snack, had a peach cake and got a hot chocolate. Service was quick and attentive. The cake was nice and moist, most favourite part was that inside there was also a large slice of peach! I only expected the slice outside, but seeing the huge one within the cake made it worth the cost so much more. Hot chocolate was smooth and creamy, good marshmallows went with it too.
Lyla
It was my first time visiting and the cafe, ambience was quite average than I thought, maybe because the tables are all outside and it didn’t give off a cosy-vibe. Staff was average. Loved the view though. Donuts were delish. Sourdough was too crispy and hard but I guess this is could be a personal preference for some.
Mcm
Lovely warm service, excellently balanced (milk to coffee ratio) soy cappuccino.
The baked goods are of the quality one would expect from ones grandmother/oma/nana. You really ought to try one of their cinnamon rolls. They also have a really great unique menu, unlike every single bloody cafe in Auckland that serves the same goddam thing. I recommend the flatbread and chorizo. One of the best cafes in Auckland.
Riddhi
Went to bestie yesterday (Tuesday) just before lunch and there were lots of free tables in the arcade to sit at.

Service was friendly and prompt which was good to see. The staff were also really accommodating with one of my friends orders since she didn’t like some of the items on the dish she wanted to order. We ordered 3 sets of hot cakes, 2 chilli fried eggs on toast, and 2 sets of fried chicken, as well as some drinks.

My friends found their coffees really good and strong. I loved how they were using metal straws instead of plastic.

I didn’t try the eggs but they smelled really good. The chicken was cooked really well and I could taste the indian influence in them, but I still found them slightly average flavour wise. the hotcakes however were absolutely delicious! a bit sweet for breakfast but the salted caramel ice cream was delicious and the hotcakes super fluffy.

Anna Griffin
Love their cheese toastie, had it twice. that quince jelly is amazing addition to melted cheese. Great coffee and good service with a smile.
Lucy
My love fore bestie and their hot cakes is unparalleled. If bestie started a cult I would be the first to join. Good vibes good white iced coffees, the waitresses have snazzy tattoos

Tucked away in the arcade on K Road is Bestie. The shared dining area in the court area is a great lace to socialise. It has a great view over the park from its floor length windows.

The pricing is reasonable and the food is beautifully presented. The bacon is cooked to perfection and has that streaky fatty bacon goodness. The pancakes are incredibly fluffy and soft.
Louise Ngaei
Excellent food here. A top place. Love the ambience of St Kevin’s Arcade. Friendly service and inventive yet not fussy or esoteric food. A must try if you’re on the K! Great coffee here too.
HJ
This may just be our new favourite cafe on k road. Located at the back of Kevin's arcade with large glass windows you'll get a meal with a view. The vibe here is super chilled and cool.

The staff are all friendly and relaxed. Our waitress was great and recommended some good options - the fried potato skins, we couldn't fault! She made all of their dishes very appealing.

Starting with a trim flat white, the coffee was good and we loved the coloured cups with the stamp 'B' logo. To eat we ordered the Poached eggs on toast with a side Avo and mushrooms and the sumac Haloumi fries with lettuce and mint salad, heirloom tomato, cucumber slaw, yoghurt and pomegranate.

Bother dishes were delicious and weren't too heavy. The eggs were done perfectly and everything was really fresh. The haloumi was cooked well with a slightly flakey crunch and not too salty. The pomegranate was a nice refreshing touch to the cucumber salsa.

A great little find in the middle of k road - worth the visit!
Tommy
Best breakfast out i have had in ages. We were told there would be a 30 min wait time on our order but it came in about 20. My flat white was chocolatey and at just the right temperature. - not too hot and not at all cold. I had perfectly poached eggs on real sour dough bread with just right amount of butter. The side of salmon was the best salmon i think i have ever had! It was smokey and salty and went perfectly with my poached eggs. I will be back for lunch on Tuesday!
Basil Black
Awesome place for Sunday brunch. We arrived at 10.30am to a great vibe. The cafe is at the end of the wonderful K-Rd icon - St Kevin's Arcade. It was busy and we were told it was a 30 min wait on food. They beat that and our tucker was spot on. I had scrambled eggs, bacon, avocado smash and a home made hash brown - all fantastic. My other had eggs poached and superb house smoke salmon. The coffees came fast and I can attest the barista knows what they are doing. Definitely coming back. If you are looking for something away from the Ponsonby Road swank, with charm and good food, this place is worth a visit. Don't forget to check out the food cabinet inside.
Stephy_NakiGirl
Popular cafe in an arcade of K Rd, they share an open seating area with the businesses around them. If you’re lucky you can grab a seat with a view or Myers park.
I tried the coconut cake with blueberries & a fresh juice. Both were delicious. Can’t wait to come back & try more of their menu
Abbi Pritchardjones
Friendly helpful staff, funky innovative menu, spacious open plan victorian arcade, overlooking Myers park, in the middle of it all, just off k Road..

Taste: 🌕🌕🌗🌑🌑
Interior Deco: 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑
Customer service: 🌕🌕🌕🌑🌑
Recommend: 🌕🌑🌑🌑🌑
The proportion is so small compared to other cafes & so overpriced compares to what u get. Ordered salmon fish cake which taste not bad but the fish cake can be brought from supermarket, nothing special. You also don't get everything they mentioned in the menu and some ingredients has been replaced by others. Coconut water taste super artificial and weirdly sweetened, it says 100% pure coconut water but I come from tropical city where coconuts r rich in production, I know what proper coconut water taste like, nothing like the drink I ordered, so that coconut water is a no no to me. However, the decorations were pretty good.

Love the feel of St. Kevin's, especially the back area where Bestie's and Gemmayze St. are - such a cool view of the Sky Tower. Bestie's itself is such a cool re-furbed grunty space and pumps on the weekend. Have had teas, hot chocolate, kombucha and traditional breakfast there - everything consistently good. Attentive, happy servers too.
Sarah
Awesome cafe! Went for breakfast and had the crushed lentils which were delicious and such a decent portion size. My brother had the chorizo flat bread which was equally as good. Definitely coming back to try more of the menu as there were so many tasty looking options!

Nice place having coffee here. The donut was quite fluffy n it’s different from normal ones. The potato skin is very crispy n goes well with the mayo dripping. However, I’m not very happy with the service coz it took about 20mins for my cold brew and hot chocolate.
Jade M.
Strolling into a lovely old complex at the top of a hill is so surprising. The cafe's dining room is the back of courtyard which overlooks a tiny valley. What a view. The food is accomplished as the view. What a lovely breakfast this was.

Visited Bestie cafe today to catch up with a friend. The food was 10/10 we had the hot cakes and the pork ribs both dishes were faultless and I would recommend both ! We also had the potato skins and god dam these were good never in my life have I thought potatoes could be that good and it came with a mayo type sauce too totally epic ! Defo recommend going to Bestie's if you're in the area it's a sneaky tucked away secret waiting to be discovered, big ups to the staff as well who were super friendly ! Hope to be back soon :)

Such delicious food, beautiful location and vibe. Food is affordable yet creative and delicious. Staff are lovely and friendly and cool. One of my favourite cafes in Auckland

St Kevins Arcade has come a long way from the days when I attended AGGS and it was a run down, smelly, dingy dive where all the girls would go to have a smoke after school..now the space is full of light & life, and Bestie sets the tone for this space with its spacious, open dining area with huge glass windows, where if your lucky, you may get a table beside said windows and look down into Myers Park, what a setting! And the food..well, I come here often and I have never left disappointed, highlights are the coffee (of course! Not too hot and nice and strong) the spiced lentils, ricotta donuts and the coconut rice pudding. Everything here is delicious & fresh, the service fast and efficient without being "in your face", will always have time for Bestie..be prepared to want to stay past your finished food 👌
Annie Ren
The food was amazing, quite different to your usual brunch food as there was a heavy Mediterranean/Indian influence to all the dishes. I had the spiced lentils with a poached egg. The taste was textured and really rich although I thought the portion was a bit light for $17.50 as there was barely half of a Naan bread added together.

For the food alone however, I would've given this place a solid 4/5, but the service was a huge let down. The waitress at the counter never smiled and they had one big guy taking care of almost the entire seating/dining area. It was extremely difficult to get his attention to get water, napkins etc. In the end I simply gave up, will not be back.

Great little place for a meal! The location is superb and the surrounding shops on K road are worth a look at. Shared the ricotta doughnuts which were amazinggg and also poached eggs on toast with salmon (I think, this was from a while back).

We have picked the best spot for catch up lunch, lots of table which means no waiting time to get a table for four of us on Saturday lunch time. Open area really made the conversation very comfortable, not afraid of being loud and in the same times not distracted by other tables. Service was attentive and efficient. Great value for money too!

I ordered food from cabinet (bagel and earlgrey raspberry cake) and Yon ordered the pork ribs. Mine was good, flavour combination were great (superb eggplant nyummm!) but I am not a fans of the bagel texture (might actually my fault to let it cool and tough, getting hard to cut), sadly I could not taste earl grey in my cake but the cream was delicious. Yon's ribs were amazing, flavour and texture were great. I ordered the Kombucha which I like (a hint of spice make it unique) and Yon ordered honey lemon. Overall we were happy with the food and experience, will certainly be back for more.
Anna
I didn't expect much from a cafe hidden away at the end of an arcade so I was pleasently surprised by the treats in store for us. There was a good amount of chatter but not too noisy even given the high ceiling setting. I had the granola with fresh fruit on top, the balance of flavours were fantastic and provided a light but satisfying meal for someone who wasn't very hungry. The coffee wasn't strong but if you like the taste of coffee, it'll keep your cravings at bay until you find a strong dose of caffine else where. All in all a great setting for a catch up - private with good dose of sun, attentive service and yummy food. To top all this off, prices were very reasonable.

Excellent location but terrible coffee. I have been there a dozen or more times hoping that their coffee improves, alas no improvement hence the negative review. Unless of course you want very weak, milky, lukewarm at beast, foul tasting coffee, then this is for you. Food.... over priced and too fancy.

Wow, such a busy place located in st Kevin's arcade it was very busy when I visited but got served quickly and the scones are delish. The coffee was outstanding we got served by Courtney what amazing service and recommend this place to all my friends. Well worth going to.

Went here on Mother's Day recently, and was buzzing. We arrived around 1pm and had to wait around 5 minutes for a table to be cleared which was fine. The food was really good- both my mum and I ordered a haloumi roll from the cabinet and my stepdad a banana cake. Whilst the cake was delicious, it was probably slightly on the sweet side (I don't often say this). The iced coffee was good but could probably do with slightly less ice. Overall a nice place for a chilled lunch

Decided to try this cafe out, since K Road has been rolling out new eateries lately! Surprised how it was different from other cafes as it was situated in a vintage type area, St Kevin's Arcade. Nonetheless, we walked in and ordered large cappuccinos. Their cabinet food wasn't appealing, but their Tiramisu Layer Cake looked astounding so we decided to gice it a go. The coffee itself wasn't strong enough, having used eighthirty coffee roastery, but that's my personal opinion. The crema was more frothy than smooth and creamy. However, the tiramisu cake and coffee together was splendid, an 8.5/10! The cake was not sweet at all, just how I like it! The tiramisu cake is definitely worth a try!

Food: food was delicious! A little on the small side for portion size (for my meal anyway) but it was beautifully presented and tasted incredible. I had the Salmon Fish Cakes w Poached Eggs - would 100% recommend.

Service: service was pretty average, once we sat down it took probably 10-15mins for someone to come and take our order, then another 30-40mins at least before we got our meals. There were only 6 of us so I definitely think there is room for improvement there. However, if I was not in a rush to get any where I would have no problem eating at this place.

Ambience: 10/10. The location is so lovely, with the view of the sky tower, the sun streaming in through the floor-ceiling windows of the arcade, and the cute little shops all around it. One of my favourite spots I think!

Overall I would definitely come back here, for both lunch and coffee (if I wasn't on a time schedule!), the Bestie cafe has really done well with this place.

Definetly worth a tryy! Salmon balls and cinnamon doughnut were so delish!! Awesome place with very antique ambience located in an old mall! Strawberry milkshake is another must-drink-beverage😍

I've always liked having a coffee at this location in the past and a few days ago I finally got to try Bestie Cafe which opened here after the arcade renovations. The latte was excellent. I ordered the spicy lentil dish and it was really good. The view down to Myers Park is always lovely to take in. Overall the service was excellent and the staff are friendly. Definitely a cafe to return to.

Fantastic food. Well presented and accommodating to dietary requirements. Soy latte was delicious and strong just how I like it.

Came here with a friend, we sat at the end table but sun was bright through the windows, recommend to sit further out in the shade if you can.

Great for vegans and vegetarians. My only complaint is that the way we order is slightly confusing. Do we go to the counter? Do we sit ourselves down and wait to be served? Do we stand somewhere to be seated then served? Please let me know. Also the service was slightly aloof which fits the vibe at besties and st Kevin's arcade but for the amazing food I'll look past it.
Always a regular here. Soy lattes are honestly my favourite item here.

Great atmosphere and food was really nice - had smashed avocado with boiled eggs and herbs. Bathrooms didn't have a change mat unfortunately.

I love unexpected finds. Bestie was the most wonderful, unexpected adventure and I pleased to discover afterward that it made its place in Metro’s Top 50 Cafes. Well deserved!

Excellent close to perfect. Breakfast is yummy any choice is great.
Coffee good and strong. Views of the skytower the Strand is vibrant.
They need to include some fresh squeezed juice and they are closer to 4,5.
Service is great most of the times.
The place is finally tidy as well as it used to be a bit low on hygiene.

Keep it up.

Another top 50 cafe that drew me in... and I'm happy for it once again 😅. Located in one of K'roads 'hallway' of shops, you'll find a stunning view of Myers Park and the Skytower 🗼. Under 20 tables, but it's not the kind of place that could fit many more, great if you want to get some work done or catch up with friends. The service was basic, but suited the vibe of the place 👌🏻. I would say the menu isn't going to be for everyone, but that's ok! Even as a fussy eater I managed to find something just right for me 🙈. The quality of the food is quite high and they roast eight thirty coffee beans ❤️. Definitely worth a try if you're wanting to switch things up a bit.

Went here for brunch this morning and it was delicious! Hidden gem on K Road. I had the pancakes and my boyfriend had the rosti with salmon. We both also had milkshakes and 10/10 would recommend and defiantly keen to come back. Service was allgood as well, with beautiful views of the sky tower.

My work team and I decided to head up to K-Road to check out the renovation works that they've down to this beautiful arcade. Bestie is one of the small cafes on the northern end, nearby the large windows that overlook Myers Park towards Aotea Square. They serve great coffee, and have a yum breakfast menu. Their fluffy hotcakes were absolutely delicious; the cream was whipped to perfection, and the oats made a perfect addition. I am a sucker for anything with cinnamon. Word of warning - if you sit by the windows, the glare can make you feel a bit clammy, even on a cooler day. Bring some sunglasses and sit a bit further to the south if you can.

Great food !
Service was a bit slow and we had to go up and find a waitress
This place was jampacked on a sunday morning
Beetroot hummus was the highlight as well as their brownies!
So delicious, a must try if you are about in town
Their cabinet also had a great selection of foods

Good stuff: coffee, staff, eggs. Their scrambled egg and chilli fried eggs are good.
Could be better: even though we love the flavour of the toast- it's obviously good quality, it isn't the best toast to serve under egg because it's just too darn crunchy and hard to cut with a knife. You end up eating breakfast with your fingers. So instead of toasted (sourdough?)ciabatta ( i think that's what it is), try a different bread to make eating easier. Whoever makes your bread must have something else.
The only other thing here is that it's way noisy! Lot's of hard surfaces, no rugs or softening. So it's loud. No point really playing music - it's all boomy bass. Someone could fix this to at least make the music recognizable. If you want a quiet breakfast, don't go here but of you don't mind noise, it's light and bright.

Awesome wee place in the spot where my old favourite cafe used to be. The coffee here is soooo good! I ordered the Coconut & Cardamom rice pudding. It was light & delicious, I just wish they served more! Will definitely be back.

Cute little place on K'Road. Love how while it's situated inside St Kevin's arcade, it's very spacious and you still get lots of sun. If it's a rainy day and you've got your pooch with you, this is quite a good spot to hang. Often come here for morning tea and they have a nice and delicious selection of sweet treats. Today, I had a lovely pot of kawakawa and lemongrass tea, and a delish cinnamon scroll.

Best cafe in the area hands down. Lovely cabinet food, beautiful coffee and the sweetest staff on the planet! What's with all these 3.5 ratings? Bestie strikes the perfect balance of comfortable, charismatic and classy.

Hidden away at the back of St Kevin's Arcade, Bestie is a nice place to stop for a coffee or breakfast and have a look at the cute second-hand book stores and opshops nearby. Ordered a flat white which was nice and a toasted muesli, also nice but portion was probably a bit small. Not sure if I will be back again unless in the area

Loved this place, staff are friendly and donuts were suburb. Will be back again to try something else. The only challenge is getting a seat.

This new place is close to work so was excited to try it and see if it was worthy of joining the rota. Well it didn't disappoint I loved their menu options, I had the cheese toastie and chocolate fish milkshake. Simple but delicious and I couldn't walk away without a cinnamon brioche for afternoon tea either!

Had a nice strong coffee @ B's and shared an apple & feijoa slice and a small slice of White choc & passionfruit cake w. a couple of friends. I've always liked sitting in the dining area/atrium of St Kevin's arcade, so it's a thumbs up from me. Love the green drinks trolley just outside the door too.

Very disappointed by this place. The coffee was very good but the food was very unimpressive. Small portions, expensive for what we got and not very well presented. It tasted OK, but I felt I could have done a better job making the same breakfast at home.

Update August 2018- Bestie still has the best cabinet in town (including vegan baking) and the brownie and snickers truffles are out of this world.

Bestie sometimes feels like a bit of a tranquil oasis in the city. Other times it’s incredibly busy (and understandably so). The cafe seating overlooks Myers Park & the Sky Tower and the windows of the cafe are filled with bamboo plants (and other greenery). It's a nice addition to St Kevin's and about as good as a replacement as you could hope for Alleluya. The coffee is good and the baking is delicious (their brownie is delectably gooey). Breakfast goes all day and lunch starts from 12. The fried chicken is delicious - potentially one of the best in the city but would be great with an aioli, the slaw it comes with is interesting (cumin seeds and kaffir lime leaves) but the combination doesn’t quite work. I’m also a fan of the pork & apple sausage roll and their sandwiches are always delicious & well priced.
