Review Fridge - Auckland Central

Les B
Great hidden gem in kingsland. Amazing selection of cafe foods and desserts alongside excellent coffee and drinks. They also carry a wide selection of "Most" brand juice so definitely give it a go. Not sure what another reviewer meant about no "ambience". I found the place to be charming and down to earth with character coming through in the exposed brick walls and polished wooden floors. Great place for a casual lunch or even meeting with clients.

I went there for the first time and I liked it... the most good thing in this coffee place for me is the back yard... full of green and clean environment you can enjoy your coffee or food outside in fresh air... the make good coffees here and also good snacks... I didn’t tasted their sweets but they looked nice and fresh... free WiFi also and reasonable prices... Flat white coffee was perfect, just the way I want it... also very kind and quick service... ideal place for a coffee and a quick bite...

The food is fantastic. We ordered the "One night in Paris" french toast and the "Full Breakfast" (got stuck into the food before taking a picture). Staff are great and the wait for food was not long. Only downside was the coffee. Considering the local coffee scene in Kingsland they need to up their game.

Nice and cozy place. The food is really good. We enjoyed every dish. The service was outstanding so as food presentation. Would definitely recommend to visit this place!

Such a nice place with great food, good coffee and lovely backyard. It was very nice and quite. Surely will come back again. Good eggs benedict.

Absolutely fantastic for what I needed to do. Study 📝 you can't notice how much space there is out the back from the roadside. But it's worth it. For study/business or just a catch up coffee

My favorite lunch spot. The new owners have done a great job bringing the food to another level. The in-house smoked salmon and sauces are delicious, the pies are seriously top notch, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place for a quick bite and coffee, or a proper sit down meal - you can't go wrong.

Great coffee and friendly service. The vegetarian stack in the counter is just superb! Salads are creative and tasty. And the pies.. Well, they're bar none. I've stopped by this awesome little cafe a few times over the past 2 years and they've never failed to impress.

Excellent place for brunch! They make very good coffee and the meal was a treat! I had the mushrooms on toast and was very tasty! The meal was quite large and I couldn't finish it but this is not a bad thing either! Recommend this place to all!

they have a good range of meals on the menu at a reasonable price, though the cabinet food is quite pricey. I ordered the Spanish omelette which was super tasty however the sourdough bread that came with it was quite hard. Wait time wasnt too long but also because we were the only customers in at the time.

This place is seriously the hidden gem! Absolutely stunning courtyard and extensive lunch menu makes this small Kingsland Cafe the destination everyone should try. We ordered Big Breakfast and Salmon Eggs Bene and I was lost for words by the quality and presentation of both dishes. Will be back for more thats 100%

Staff/service: 3/5
Venue: 4/5
Price/portion: 3.5/5

Service was not that good. We came in and the staff was busy looking at his phone. We sat down and waited for 10mins but no staff is around to give us the menu. We went up to the counter to get the menu, the same staff said thank you for coming. I ordered the potato hash $12.90 added the smoke salmon for $6. Lucky I added another extra egg as the portions is small. Husband ordered the cafe big breakfast $21.90, the dish is on the salty side.

Join Zomato Gold and get 1+1 on food or 2+2 on drinks. Also get a 20% OFF using my referral code SUMA8564P

Disappointed with our latest visit to The Fridge - this was once our go to brunch spot when living in Kingsland, with a lovely garden area out the back and good quality food. We had hoped to sit in the courtyard (our main reason for choosing this over another place) and phoned ahead to book, however discovered this is now overgrown, messy and in desperate need of some tlc. I was surprised there was no acknowledgment of this when they setup our table in the overgrown trees! We found a different spot on the deck but things didn’t improve with the food, one of our group only being told they’d run out of his order as they were serving everyone else theirs and the quality of the food not great. A real shame to see this place going down hill.

SO i went to the fridge cafe today, expecting the good ol service and food... First of all, I got the classic mince and cheese pie (my childhood favourite) what in the name of jesus did i bite into! This pie was a disaster! Who puts that much tomato sh!t in it? Honestly i was expecting a mince and cheese pie not a spaghetti bolognese pie...Not impressed. I was gobsmacked with the service as well! I asked for 5 more minutes to decide what i wanted to eat, not 20!! Honestly disgusting considering that there was only one other customer, it’s not like they were busy or anything. Though i’m not surprised to be honest, considering all factors. WILL NOT BE RETURNING. The workers were snobs; mate you work at a disaster that you call a cafe!? Rather unimpressed

Two words...utterly depressed. This was once a great deli and Im sad to have had such a terrible experience with the food and embarrassing experience with the staff. We ordered coffees, the chicken mushroom pies and red velvet butterscotch cake. Pies and coffee were average but the cake was so stale I took it back to the counter to request a replacement item from the cabinet (not even a refund) the staff member asked what was wrong and then argued every point while mashing the cake between his fingers to prove it was soft, I was gobsmaked, it was like a scene out of Fawlty Towers. A very embarrassing experience as I took my Mum there as a treat, thinking it was the place I once remembered. I wish the guy had just listened to my points instead of trying to prove me wrong, how can you improve and learn what your customers want with this behaviour? All could have been redeemed by simply being open to listening and remedying the problem. What could have been a slightly disappointing visit turned into horrible experience. It stings because you pay a lot of hard earned money only to leave feeling sick in the stomach. I will not return.

The food here was not good. I had enjoyed my previous experience here so I came back with my family again. The soups were cold and watery, the burgers were cold and the patties looked like they had been microwaved. The buns were also stale. To top it off, it took 40mins to an hour to bring our food AND drinks out. SO DISAPPOINTED!!
Chan Can Eat
This place is HUGE! They almost have too much seating!
I was kind of disappointed with the food here. To be honest, the best part was the bowl of shared fries, which were delish and hot with yum aioli.
The cabinet food was a little lack lustre too, although the only thing I’d ever heard about this place was it’s pies - they did look good, but I didn’t eat one.
A little bug on the pricy side.
All in all, much better options to dine at on new north toad
Ordered hot chocolate & salmon eggs bene. Sourdough was soft, eggs were cooked right. Hot chocolate was warm, not hot though. Overall, Good service.

Our adult kids went the other day and had a pie each, good ole steak n cheese, said it was tender melt in your mouth best pie, hands down👌🏼

After waiting 35 minutes for our meals we checked with the waitress to find out what was happening. She said "I'll check". But she did not return to our table. So we asked again. She said "Four minutes." No explanation, no apology. Eventually the meals arrived and were roughly plonked on our table. The food was dry and disapointing.

Went in for breakfast, waiter took our order and we sat down. A group of people left and two groups of 3 came in. There were probably 15 people all up there at the time, so they weren't exactly bustling. We watched as the w waitress walked in and out, clearing the table of the group that left and bringing in drinks and food for the two groups of 3. All this while no one thought to check in on us and see where our food was at. After half an hour, we went to see what was up and our order hadn't even been put through. Really???!!! All that time they walked in and out and nobody even bothered. Just crappy service really. There are far too any awesome cafes around to be wasting time with this place.

I love the concept of this store and plenty of seating area.

Nice and friendly staff. Coffee is good The cabinet food is preety good too.

This place is ideal for large group.

A must go to for lunch!

What a great place to have a weekend lunch, they even have a small and neat garden. The best big breakfast I have ever tried and coffee is more than just decent. Will be back to try some sweets from the cabinet.
Zesteeblue
To be fair, this rating only applies to the pies and cabinet drinks, never tried anything else. Pie ingredients are quality - big chunks of decent chicken, real mushrooms, very very nice! Pricey, but worth going to for a treat.

Came for lunch at 1pm on a friday, wasn't busy and was told to sit where we wanted and brought water/menus quite quickly. However the waitress never returned to take our order! We had no idea where she had gone. After waiting 45mins we went to the kitchens and flagged her down to place our orders ourselves. Lovely meal when it finally came. My pie was delicious but my friend commented that she had suffered a similar wait on her last visit. Don't think I will be dining in house again. The service was too slow and off putting for such a quiet afternoon, and there was no apology when we went to settle the bill.
Nadine
Eggs Benedict with bacon was the best I have ever had! Hot chocolate was also good and was very chocolatey. Really lovely staff and service. Would definitely come back again

Is it just me or is the Fridge a little bit sad these days? This place used to be the place to go in Kingsland - great coffee, amazing pies, and such a buzzy vibe. Perfect place to take kids to, etc etc. Now, I pop in at 11am on a Saturday (peak Auckland brunch hour) and the place was 3 tables full, the food cabinet was lacklustre, the pies deflated. As a Kingsland local, I'm just sad to see such a great institution become lifeless like this.

Neat cafe with your usual cafe menu items. Portion sizes are decent and well presented.

Food is nicely cooked and the meat in the baguette was seasoned well. The chips were fried to perfection

Came in for a late breakfast with a couple friends and the food and service was incredible! Shout out to Doris for being so friendly and smiley :)

On first impression I appreciated the friendly, efficient service but though the cafe was spacious and clean, I was underwhelmed but the rather bland colour scheme of the space. The drinks and food came very quickly and I enjoyed the coffee. I ordered the eggs benedict with cumin tomatoes, a somewhat lacklustre meal overall. The eggs were well cooked with a runny centre and the cumin tomatoes were an interesting and pleasant twist on the dish but I found the use of potato hashcakes as a replacement for bread disappointing as I missed the contrast in textures that toasted bread usually provides. The hashcakes were very soft and mushy and the dominant flavour was potato skin which I did not enjoy. This made the dish rather monotonous in texture. I would have probably preferred toasted bread as the base with some smaller, crispy hashcakes in addition.

Not bad but, not great either. Big breakie was large and easily made gluten free. Perfect breakie for the next day after a late night. Not much else to comment on. Decor okay, service okay, all around okay.

Best place to have a good pie .
Homemade big pie with an amazing taste .
Friendly customer service too.
They do have a indoor and outdoor during area.
They do have current type of salads too.
I had a Thai salad .it was tasty however wasn't really fresh.
But other than that I enjoyed it.
Just recommended.

Nice cafe with toys for the kids and lots of space. When I dined in, the service was really slow although we were warned about it but couldn't understand why as there weren't many people there. Big breakfast was great but the eggs benedict was a little on the small side. The pies are delicious although a bit pricey and not flavours are in stock sometimes. The fridge VIP club is great for loyalty discounts.

We came here for brunch on a Sunday morning having not been for a couple of years. We were given a friendly greeting upon arrival and the fact that we had a voucher made no difference to their attitude towards us, as we have experienced elsewhere. The coffees were great and really hot (they warm the cups I was told). The big breakfasts we ordered, including one vegetarian version were generous portions and tasty - they included home made hash browns. The mushrooms served on my plate had a creamy sauce which I am unable to eat. When I mentioned this they offered to replace the mushrooms without sauce. They did this quickly and they were delicious. The service was impeccable and we will definitely return.

At first glance the café looks small with just a selection of food in the cabinet and a few tables. But hidden away in the right corner you’ll find the doorway to two large rooms with more seating. They also have an outdoor area at the back too, so it should be easy to get a table. The décor reflects the history of Kingsland with large black and white canvas’s and photographs covering the walls.

We had a grabone voucher for two breakfast or lunch meals. My partner and I ordered the Big breakfast, Vegetarian breakfast and a flat white. Both the breakfasts were well portioned and great value with the voucher (breakfasts usually $21 each). The only problem with big breakfast’s is they start to become a bit mediocre and unfortunately there were no standout elements our plates. However, the vegetarian breakfast was pretty good for those that don’t eat meat and want a filling meal.

The service was one of the highlights. All the waitresses were really warm and friendly. At peak hour they did they were doing a great job getting taking orders and getting food served promptly.

Fantastic. The food was delicious (grilled haloumi! Yum!) and the service was friendly, humble and down to earth. The venue itself has a great vibe as well; decent music and pictures of historic kingsland. Prices were slightly on the high end but the quality was there and we were happy to pay for it. Try the vegetarian big breakfast!

I'm running out of words to say on this food blogging thing. There's only so much you can say about food and service before you start regurgitating the same adjectives.

The brunch at The Fridge Cafe was ok. $50 for 2 brunch meals and a coffee is steep. If I'm spending that much money on brunch I want some pizzazz and a wee bit of imagination (see Dear Jervois).

We ordered the savory Lamb Mince and the big breakie. The lamb Mince was lovely, hearty and tasty, topped with a soft poached egg, my kind of winter eats. The big breakie was a bit plane Jane. Seemingly under-seasoned and a bit flat, the potato rosti accompanying the breakie was like a big doughy hockey puck, just not attractive to eat.

Unsure if I'd be back to this place considering price vs food.

One big positive with this place though was their staff, bubbly and very friendly. Without the amazing service this place would get a 3.0 on food alone, the service bumps it up to a 3.5.

I really love this place! Iv been here a few times and it never seems to fail. I usually order the big breakfast cause the houlloumi and eggs are so good. Hands down the best customer service Iv ever experienced at a cafe as well, this place has such bubbly and wonderful people!

A friend recommended this place so we all popped in for a brunch.

Coffee was really good and served very fast. Few of my friends ordered eggs bened, the portions were large. I liked how it came with two large potato mash cakes instead of the thin slice of bread like most places. The eggs were cooked nicely and there are plenty not overflowing with sauce.

I order the halloumi on toast with pesto and salad. Once again the serving size was very generous. However the whole dish was very salty.

Generally speaking, this place is good value for money and very spacious. However nothing too special about the dishes, it's what you would expect from ur normal cafe. Given there are all those different eateries in Kingsland, The Fridge may need to be s bit more creative to wow people.

Would happily go back again though . Their cabinet food and desserts also look quite attractive, may try them next time :)

Fan of the fridge....
Pro's
Food was tasty and fresh
Great coffee
Space and room

Cons
They forgot about the coffee, but they did apologise
Portions were too big (e.g. Salmon Scrambled eggs were huge)... That could be a good thing thou..:)

Overall recommend... Its a good but not a great coffee shop

We ordered the omelette and the bacon eggs Benedict, food came out ridiculously fast. Large portions, but lacked any amount of great flavour. Drinks took about 20 minutes which wasn't exactly condonable considering all I ordered was a small flat white and there were maybe 3 other tables in the place. Service was friendly enough but a little slow.

Came here for brunch with 2 others. Big brekkie and eggs benedict. Great serving size. Hash cakes were average: good hollandaise but everything else was a bit on the average side and over priced. The place itself is very cool lots of seating. We are leaving with full stomachs though. Good smoothie, not big enough though. Service okay.

Best breakfast I've had in a while. Love the outdoor area too - this place is huge, deceiving from the road side .. I'm glad we ventured in. A lot of menu options and all seem great!

This place got is huge with Plenty of seats. We went on a saturday afternoon. It wasnt busy so we got a seat straight away. I ordered the lamb mince and my boyfriend got the spanish omelete. The lamb mince was okay. It has good flavour but i think it needed a little bit more salt in there. The spanish omelete was delicious. If only they added more chorizo it would be even better.
Overall food was okay.

Came here for breakfast the other day. Great sized meals considering the price-quite average for a trendy cafe so no complaints there. Had a vegetarian breakfast which certainly did the job but wasn't a fan of the hash cakes which featured in mine and my partners meal. Otherwise cool place and would come back.

I went to this place last weekend, and used grabone voucher. I and my partner had big brekkie and veggie brekkie, respectively. The serving size was great. Considering I used 50% off voucher, the quality seemed okay, but if you are paying full price, mehh... Still it is a good place to try :)

Popped in for a pie - heard they had some of the best pies Auckland had to offer. For $8.50 for a steak and cheese pie, it was pretty expensive. The pastry was awesome - flaky and melted in your mouth. I really liked the cheese that was gooey and throughout the pie. There were nice chunks of steak but they weren't tasty. The gravy was quite gluggy with bits of herbs in it. It was lacking in flavour and I really didn't like the texture. It could have been better.

Came here based on the girlfriend talking it up (under the old owners) it was good but didn't really stand out for me. The chicken wrap was very cheesy and the eggs Salmon didn't pack any flavour. One thing that grates me is plastic cups in cafes, the smoothie came out in a plastic cup - gutted

I took an elderly lady to the Fridge today, she hasn't been over to Kingsland for years, and she was so surprised that we went out for Brunch. We had a fabulous Brunch there, I had the BIG Breakfast, and it really was BIG and the elderly lady had the Mushroom omelet and she kept telling me how delicious it was, and mine certainly was too. I had a Grab One voucher to use, and today I see there is another Voucher offered, so I have bought another 2 Vouchers, such a great deal. I last went to the Fridge about 6 months ago, and it was just as good then. We live in Mellons Bay, so doesn't matter how far it is, it is definitely worth going to the Fridge again, thanks girls.

Went here with a friend for brunch. Service was fast and friendly and was in a really handy location. I was surprised how big it was out the back! We both got bagels, my friend getting the salmon and I got an avocado, pesto and tomato one. Were priced pretty standardly and came with side salads and a good amount of avocado which was just ripe enough! My friend also got a really good amount of salmon and cream cheese! Something other cafes often get wrong. Overall the bagels were simple and good. The coffee was also really nice and I liked that they brought everything out at the same time.
I would definitely return to try their cabinet food or other meals off their menu. A really enjoyable visit.
Love Food
coffee is good, food is okay, but one thing I need metion maybe they are very busy, the food did not heated probably. Good layout.
For the interior

The Fridge has been a long time favourite and I think in all the time I have been coming here I only ever order one thing, their steak and cheese pie! It is a pretty good pie! For non pie lovers they also have a great range of salads and wraps in their Fridge as well as meals to order from their menu. Over time they have extended their seating into next door and outdoor and it is easy to see why!

Took my husband here for birthday brunch on Saturday. A very pleasant experience, as always. Very good coffee, cappuccino served piping hot and I am told the flat white was perfect too. Pleasant service, meals arrived within minutes. Mine was a bagel with jam and cream cheese - generous portions of the latter 2 ingredients. David's Eggs Benedict on hash cakes looked superb. We finished with a massive slice of carrot cake ( shared). Not necessary but completely sublime. This is a bustling café that runs like clockwork. They really know their stuff and I would recommend to everyone, though I do know they are EXTREMELY busy on Sundays. Also - worth knowing - their takeaway pies are divine.

I came here this morning to use a GrabOne voucher and was pleasantly surprised with the place! The inside of this cafe is surprisingly spacious. The food cabinet looked impressive - demonstrating a range of deli goods, cakes and slices.

I ordered the mocha and thought it was good. I also ordered the sourdough French toast dish. This was presented beautifully, tasted good and was filling.

I'll definitely pop in again in the near future.

I came here with a GrabOne voucher for brunch on a Friday. The place is deceptively large, with two ‘rooms’ out the back filled with various sized tables. The voucher was for any two brunch menus, so we ordered the big breakfast and eggs benedict with salmon, along with coffee and juice.

The coffee was smooth, and the juice tasted very fresh and healthy. The size wasn’t too bad either for the price. The meals themselves were very large in portion, I could barely finish mine! The eggs benedict is served with two huge potato hash cakes, and covered in hollandaise sauce with a very distinctive mustard flavour. These two points definitely differentiated it from the countless times I’ve had eggs benedict for brunch, a definite hit! Although the potato-to-everything-else ratio was a bit high, as I found it hard to deal with that amount of potato! The big breakfast had a bit of everything, and also included one of the hash cakes as well.

One (minor) service gripe I do have is that you have to get your own water; not really a big deal but details are important too!
Laura
Lovely, friendly staff! Very helpful also. Highly pleased with the speed of service! Delicious menu, well thought out. There is an option for every food palet. Would highly recommend for a chilled yet satisfying meal out!
Gemma
I hadn't been here in ages so went today w a friend as it's nice and big and had free tables even on fadaz day. I like the homely furniture they have cause you feel like your sitting in someone dining room rather than a cafe on busy street. Coffees were ok, too big tho. I hate when flat whites look like Bowl lattes eh. Had a tasty enchilada too but came w a rather miserable salad. Just ur classic mesclun mix w a few drops of vinegar..gummonn. Cute fit tho so it a 3 from me

Good option for breakfast and lunch in Kingsland on weekends. Family Friendly 👪 they have a good selsction of magazines for customers and toys for the babies. Quite popular coffee in the area. Service is sometimes good, sometimes bad ... to the point to set your own table, bring water, menús and cutlery by yourself. The coffee is ok and is a good value for money.
♢ Stairs to get to the Toilets
♢ No Changing room available
♢ Space for trolleys but take care with the stairs.

First time here; was lured in by the reputation of its pies. Not a pie expert but I have to say I was pretty impressed.

Had the beef guiness and the mince, mozarella and potato top pies. The beef pie tasted like a nice juicy steak wrapped in a flakey pastry that resembled a freshly baked croissant. The mince pie was also amazing; the cheese and the chunky potato blended well with the mince.

Pies are around $8.50 each but worth it.

3.5 Yums

Have been to The Fridge twice now and have been increasingly satisfied with each visit.. The halloumi sandwich is extremely well priced and is very generous with the amount of halloumi that comes with the meal. The enchilada range is also incredibly well priced: I opted for the chicken and mushroom which was very tasty. The service we received made our dining experience even more enjoyable which was complemented well by the inviting atmosphere.

Amazing little place to go for breakfast. It's my favorite spot to take friends and family who visit for breakfast. Have to recommend the French toast! It's to die for!
Lenka Veza
One of my all time favourite cafes. A couple of must-try's: the coffee of course, and the carrot cake. I love the decor in this place and the endless selection of seating. The place gets pretty packed on the weekend so don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit but the staff are the best so it's not a problem at all.
Sarah M
Went here for brunch. Lovely little cafe with a good atmosphere. Sat outside at the back. Had the homemade baked beans. They were really tasty. Great coffee as well and they seem to have so fantastic stuff in the display cabinets. The only thing missing was music. Would have good to have something nice and chilled playing to create a but more atmosphere.

I been to this place a lot of times but when I went this Saturday the food didn't deliver. I ordered eggs benedict and the were very unpleasant. The potato in the base were burn, the eggs runny, the bacon wasn't bacon I think they put ham instead but the worse thing was the sauce. It was mustard instead benedict sauces. I won't come back never again.

Always a great place to head too the cabinet overfull with amazing delights keep up the amazing work guys its always a pleasure great sweets too my fav!

This place is all about the pies. They have great salads and good coffee also. But have a pie. They're home made and almost worth the price.
The rest of the menu is ok as well. Classic Auckland cafe vibes.
Donna&Shane
We had to try this place for breakfast ... Although the pies are tempting we didn't try them... The big breakfast was abit disappointing ... The mushrooms weren't warm/ heated enough and the homemade hash brown was ok... The bacon was delicious and eggs cooked perfect ... So Mixed feelings... The cabinet food looked yum... Worth trying though

Super friendly staff inside a sizeable kids friendly space. The Fridge has always been one of my favourite spots in Kingsland ever since my first taste of their famous Moroccan lamb pie (that pie was seriously 5/5!). Unfortunately they don't make that pie anymore which has somehow left a void inside me that nothing else on the menu is able to fill. Ordered the mince on toast this time round which was a little bland. But it is mince on toast after all. Overall a great cafe, with still a good selection of gourmet pies.
Sheree Buttery
The pies are an addiction of mine and i am committed to driving across town just for a fix. My mouth is watering with the thought of one. They are twice the price of your average pie but they are twice the flavour and you will be as hooked as I am after one bite! Chicken Bree and pesto would be my favourite or maybe beef and Guinness...
Sungsam7
Good prompt and friendly service.
Food was delicious - a great start to the day with our brekkie orders.
Big brekkie with extras got a tick from hubby.
Eggs bene with salmon was another hit.
My brioche french toast massive both in size and taste.
Four shot mocha, triple shot cappucino and mocha all very good.

The Fridge Cafe reminds me of Luscious in Onehunga, in the sense that there's fantastic salads to choose from and their food cabinet's always well stocked. BUT The Fridge also have these delicious freshly made Lamingtons. You've gotta give one of these a try! Their pies aren't bad also. It's a truly cool and funky place w. lots of different retro dining suites and a hip feel to the place.
Georgia Vossen
Really nice atmosphere here, good selection of food from the menu and also up front in the cabinet. Their pies are DELICIOUS, yum yum. I've had a falafel wrap for $10 last time I went and have had better meals, but had other food from the menu such as the homemade muesli, yum, eggs benedict, was quite expensive but good meal. Also had the French toast which is absolutely divine. Had the cheese, mushroom and chicken penne which was pretty yum. I love there juice "the mix" or something there too. Love going to this cafe.

After hearing from several people about how good this bakery/cafe is, we decided we had to try it out this Easter weekend. We walked in in the late afternoon, and immediately decided we would try the pies, and sweet things.

The pies have crispy crusty pastry, which is buttery but not too greasy. The mince and cheese is delicious, with large chunks of mince inside the pie. The steak and cheese was delicious, with undertones of herbs that the steak chunks were cooked in. The cheese in both pies was melty, stringy cheddar. The best pies we have ever tasted.

The lamington was chocolate, with melt in your mouth sponge and plenty of coconut. It was put in a plastic container to make it easy to take away. We also grabbed a slice of Rocky Road, and it was amazing. The chocolate was not too sweet, and the marshmallow and glace cherries worked well together. I'm not usually a fan, but I'd come back and buy the Rocky Road again!

Not bad little place. Was a bummer they ran out of the corn fritters dish when I went in today for a late lunch.

Got the champagne ham panini instead. Was average. Nothing special. Their berry and banana smoothie was ok. Was a little warm though....

My boyfriend got the salmon eggs benedict and it looked amazing. Should've ordered that instead. Love how they had a potato best at the bottom instead of the standard bread.

Low key service, could be friendlier. very casual, good hearty cafe food and fantastic pies. Got to try the pies.

A 'circus' of waitstaff. From the moment we entered the waitress never smiled. Then they got three out of our five meal orders wrong, and while the joint was less than 20% busy. My own dish arrived late and I was told that it "was not personal". When one of our party (a vegeterian) asked for the bacon omelette to be taken away, the hip, young waiter with too much cool to pay attention then proceeded to ridicule vegetarians!!! The Fridge was the setting for the most unsavory service experience we have ever had; not only will we never revisit, but we have sworn to actively discourage others from making the same mistake.
Chasing A Plate
What is it about a pie from The Fridge? It’s the flaky pastry, the solid weightiness of it in your hand and the fact that they are JAM PACKED with filling. I am usually a strict mince and cheese pie kind of gal but PL is steak and cheese inclined so anticipating a few bites for herself had bought one of these. I wasn’t complaining. The thick layer of cheese clung to every inch of the lid of the pie, the thi

Cute cafe in a nifty setting in Kingsland. I came to try their famous carrot cake - totally amazing - a huge slice with sunflower seeds, suculent raisins, and velvety icing. You will not be dissapointed
Miss Charlotte Cake
Came here to try the famous Fridge pies! Had a steak and cheese and it was wicked!!!! really nice size, good amount of meat and the pastry was nice and crispy. Delicious!

I then decided I also needed cake and coffee which were also both highly praised (I never usually order coffee as I'm a big tea drinker). Overall it was a lovely experience and we sat outside on the tables at the back, it was really relaxing and the waitress was attentive but in the right way (didn't hover).

After a big night on the raz, me and a few of my close friends were eager to replenish our bodies with some quality food. After a heated debate regarding where and what to eat, we came to a mutual agreement to attend the much talked about "fridge cafe".

Having heard great things about this place, we were all very excited to get our hands on some hearty grub. Little did we know, we would be greatly disappointed.

Once seated at a table which was far too big for a party of four, we proceeded to look over the menus. With no drinks menu available and the waiters lack of knowledge of beverages on offer, I settled for water. My other patrons however ordered smoothies and an ice coffee which took an eternity to arrive.

Once we made our order, we were left to wait aimlessly for our food to arrive. 45 - 50 mins later, we were still in the same position, hungry, frustrated and confused. Hungry because we had obviously not received our food yet. Frustrated because no one had even bothered to check up on us and confused because it appeared as though there were plenty of staff working. Having reached a tipping point, we told a waiter that we had been waiting for a long time for our food. Her response was to check up on the order and get back to us. Another 10 mins later, she had not reported back. Meanwhile, a party of 4 which had arrived after us had ordered, eaten, paid and left.

In the end, we decided to leave, hungrier than we arrived. The staff showed no consideration to us and our time at the fridge. Overall, the service was the worst I've ever experienced and I hope this issue is address urgently.

Went there yesterday, pretty ordinary to be fair. Big Breakfast was all of that , but quality severely lacking, mushrooms had great wads of thickening in them and Sausages were tasteless. Definitely a come down from previous visits here. There are much better alternatives close by that now do much better. Sad really...

Food 3/5
Service 3/5
Cost 4/5
Vibe 4/5
Coffee 4/5

We went to Fridge Cafe because it was one of the only places open over the holiday break - kudos to Fridge for that! Extra bonus .5 points :). We used to love this place let's see if it is still holding its own...

They have a good selection of counter foods - with a range that suits all dietary requirements. Stuff like gourmet pies (which are really popular), wraps, stuffed pita bread, salad etc there is a huge range.

The menu hasn't changed for a while. Just the usual Auckland faves.

The main reason we have been going there lately is to sit in the huge courtyard which is lovely -

Service is great, if not a llittle slow, but hey, it's hot out there, and I was not in a hurry.

The coffee is good, but I was really suprised after ordering a soy iced coffee for it to arrive with cream, ice cream and chocolate fish. Hmmm. I guess I wasn't clear enough. I couldn't drink it but decided not to make a fuss because it may have been my fault for not being clear enough, and the service was really friendly and I just wasn't in the mood to cause a fuss. But just be sure to tell them if you are intolerant of anything.

oh my god. the big breakfast ($20.50) is definitely one of the biggest breakfasts ive ever had in my life. the portions of everything was beyond generous - a large roasted tomato, a nice serving of spinach, a mound of potato, a heaping of creamy mushrooms and a huge portion of eggs fit for a king. the amount of the scrambled eggs on the plate was actually astonishing - i couldve sworn they used four eggs to make it because it was beyond huge. not to mention there was a decent amount of bacon, two small sausages and two slabs of garlic ciabatta on the plate, making a meal large enough to feed a small army (or two starving people). i would definitely recommend sharing this plate between two people because even though my friend and i were both starving, we couldnt finish this and the french toast between the two of us simply because the portions at the fridge are huge. taste wise the big breakfast wasnt bad either but there was nothing special or amazing about each of the individual components - everything was good but nothing was standout in my opinion.

the fridge is also super generous when it comes to their french toast - two thick slabs of brioche, a large grilled banana sliced into two and a good helping of bacon. the french toast was pretty good but it definitely wasnt the best french toast ive had in auckland. the french toast wasnt buttery enough for my liking and the maple syrup was too runny in my opinion. i prefer cafe melbas french toast compared to this one - theyre both the same price but both taste and portion wise, cafe melba wins hands down.

next time when i come back here, im definitely going for a slab of their carrot cake - its the best in auckland apparently.

big breakfast 7.5/10
french toast 8.5/10

Went there for brunch on a weekend about a month ago... the cafe was so busy with many customer..

Ordered big breakfast and a carrot cake for my wife... coffee and cake came like 5 minutes after the order but we had to wait for the big breakfast for at least 35 minutes...

Not sure if I will go back

we came here for our auckland pie testing com9 part of ayebro dot co nz... $8 pies... nice tho... nice and greasyyyy... polite staff... I would go again

We had a late brunch here. The setting is nice, with options of courtyard or indoor dining. Our food was fine, but lacked anything to differentiate it from the standard brunch menu. There are no lunch options on the menu, only cabinet food. We were disappointed with the service, a second coffee ordered never arrived and no one checked on us after our meal to see if we'd like additional drinks. Overall decent food but service could be improved.

Super cute little cafe on the main strip of new north road in kingsland!

I've been here quite a few times now, and I usually get the big breakfast (which is masssssive...), but I realised little aspects of the dish seem pretty sloppy/rushed if they're quite busy so I chose something different today - Bacon eggs Benny! I love that they use mashed potato instead of the English muffin. It's a nice change.

Ps the carrot cake looks aaamazing.
I'm coming for it!!!

So we came here on a stormy, cold weekend morning for brunch. The cafe was bustling and busy with many customers, which indicates a good thing when you go somewhere to eat.

I ordered the mushroom, tomato, spring onion and mozerella omelette, and I was very pleasantly surprised with the portion that came in. The omelette, was probably mixed with a lot of milk to 'fluff' it up a lot when you cook it and unfortunately it lacked a lot of taste/seasoning. I loved the fact the mushrooms & veges were all mixed in but I was quite underwhelmed with the overall lack of flavour which I had to resort to (which I really hate as I feel it's extremely rude to the cook/chef) using the salt shaker and ketchup bottle to bring the meal to life.

The meal also included a side of salad and 2 slices of bread which were good, but the main star of the dish was a let down.

Coffees were great and I can't fault that, and the atmosphere was comfortable with friendly service from the staff.

went here for a takeaway pie today after about a year or two since the last time i had food from there. I think management has changed since then because the experience just wasn't the same. Pies were soggy and had no fillings, got a steak and cheese pie, no cheese and 2 pieces of steak, obviously bulked up with this gelatinous "gravy" too and was unpleasant to eat. Chicken pie was bland and left nothing to desire. Staff were also not very friendly and for $17, two pies was a joke, will be going to the Kingsland bakery or Shaky Isles across the road for my pie fix from now on. I remember when these pies used to be the bomb, everyone would rave about them and they were full of flavour and quality. Now they are nothing

They say they have the best carrot cake in Auckland and no doubt it is. It is really really good and just the slice is good enough for a meal in itself. The coffee used to be really good but lately just hasn’t hit the mark. However that has not put me off dining there.

The Fridge is a busy neighbourhood cafe who made their fame in gourmet pies. Small up top with only a few 2 seater tables, pie warmer (of course), fridges and cabinet food, you might be tricked into thinking there are not enough places to sit. Find a seat in their extended dining area or walk down the stairs, through their humming kitchen to covered and uncovered seating outside.

We have been coming to The Fridge for a decade now and there was once a time we came once (or twice) a week. Their pies come in a range of flavours: Mince & Mozzarella; Steak & Mozzarella; Chicken, Mushroom & Pesto; Bacon & Egg; Thai Curry Chicken; Beef & Guinness; Moroccan Lamb; Mince; Mince, Mozzarella & Potato; Vege.

The Fridge have some lovely cabinet food and sweet treats. We find their portions (and our appetites) to be *just so* that we can get 2 items each.

I’ve been told by my vegetarian friend that their vegetable pies are not actually vegetarian. This might be an issue for some. Management please confirm?

Service is at the counter, friendly and efficient. Kitchen-made meals and coffees can be a bit slow when they are busy. Best to stick to pies and cabinet food if you are hungry or in a hurry. We ate 2 items each before our coffees arrived.

I usually get a pie and their chicken bacon Caesar wrap and this time they weren't quite as good as I remembered. For example, my chicken, mushroom and pesto pie didn’t have any discernable pesto and my Caesar wrap was quite dry. The pastry was delightful as always but the food seems to be a bit under-seasoned. Still decent food, just not as good as they once were.

Over the years, we have seen the prices go up while the quality of their pies have gone down. I would have once given The Fridge a 4.5 (or more) for doing a great job and what they sought out to do, but for today’s version of The Fridge, today they just get a 3.5 from me. Room for improvement and I think their issues can be easily fixed. I haven't given up on The Fridge yet.

Meal paid for (in part) with a Zomato voucher.
Georgie @ Georgieats
Two weeks ago, my Mum and I ventured to Kingsland to try out The Fridge Cafe. I had received a voucher from Zomato (thanks Yatchi) and was very excited, as I have wanted to go to The Fridge for ages! (Sadly, probably due to the fact that I do not hang out in Kingsland as often as I would like).

We arrived at The Fridge around 2.30pm on a Saturday. We decided on a hot drink and a sweet cake. [Side note: I had previously read all the Zomato reviews of The Fridge, so thought it would be interesting to go for afternoon tea instead of breakfast/brunch as this is what most of the reviewers had wrote about].

Service was friendly when we walked in. Not overly attentive, but not distant either.

The first thing you notice is the large cabinet by the till - except when we arrived, there was very little food left. The cabinet looked tired and unorganised. My Mum pointed out that as the food dwindles throughout the day, they should still make sure the rest of it looks good. I totally agreed. Nothing looked highly appealing, except for a few sweet cakes.

We ordered a an extra hot, trim flat white ($4), an extra hot, trim hot chocolate ($4.50) and a Sticky Date Pudding Cake served warm with cream ($5.50). We also bought two chocolate chip cookies ($3.50 each), to take away.

Both drinks were perfect - extra hot and strong! I do find at most cafes that there will be a 50/50 chance whether they will make it extra hot or not. Usually I just take it back if it is not hot enough. If you do come to The Fridge, I recommend ordering a hot chocolate as it is sweet and comes with marshmallows and a chocolate fish! One of the few places in Auckland that gives you both!

However, the highlight of our afternoon tea was definitely the Sticky Date Pudding Cake! It was delicious! It was warm the whole way through, very moist and had a good serving of dates inside the cake. It was just like eating the real dessert!

As for the décor, well it was a bit too casual and alternative for my liking. The Fridge has many different seating areas with odd chairs. Personally, I think it is a bit of a waste of space.

Overall, The Fridge had great coffee and sweet treats. Just a shame about the décor and funny seating... May go back to try one of their pies - I have heard they are pretty good!

The Fridge used to be great. Great food, great coffee and great service, so good I actually used to tip. But it has gone from great to okay to bad over the last couple of years.
The two guys that I always encounter on front of house are always engaged in a loud, over-caffeinated, vacuous conversation we each other that takes precedence over serving people. Their retorts to customers border on patronising.
When I went there yesterday the coffee I got was actually bad, like what you expect when you get a coffee from a mall muffin shop, bitter and bad tasting. I don't think much of the hygeine of that kitchen that you walk through. The bathroom either.
I am a lover of pies, but honestly if you want an excellent pie for half of their over inflated prices go to Mamata in West Lynn shops, organic too.
Fridge has had it's day, I'm not surprised it won a Metro award once, but now it's no better than an airport sandwich shop but with ruder staff and dirtier bathrooms.

Had brunch here on Saturday with my partner. We were seated promptly and were served without delay despite the cafe being pretty much full.

I ordered the eggs bene with bacon served on hash cakes which were excellent. My partner had the haloumi salad sandwich which was well presented and tasted equally as good. Didn't scrimp on the haloumi either which was good to see.

All in all, great service, very good meals and good value for money

My partner and I were excited to try this place out for brunch as we had only heard great things about it, but our experience was meh.

When we walked inside we were greeted by a guy with a beard who told us to wait there and we'd be seated my someone else - ?? you can't seat us, strange.

So after what felt like forever we were finally seated on a shared table which we didn't mind because we could see it was busy. But after giving us a menu we waited 15 minutes and still no one came to take our order. So my partner went to the counter and ordered it himself.

After yet another long wait and other people coming in later than us receiving their food before us we got our drinks and meals. They mucked up our hot drinks order and our breakfasts were just average. Poached eggs, bread and sausages were nice. Burnt bacon (although I was impressed with the amount they gave us- a lot!) and the homemade beans was awful.

I felt the staff were pretty rude and in the car we actually looked at each other and said well at least we know where we are not going again.

Like many reviewers my girlfriend and I braved The Fridge on a gorgeous weekend morning for a late breakfast with a deal voucher. As we expected it was packed to the rafters. Thankfully however the counter staff are some of the loveliest hospo workers I've ever come across considering the flood of impatient and hungry customers raging past the rather narrow entrance/counter space. They certainly didn't seem to mind that we came to pay with a voucher.
Oh yeah food! Gorgeous food, homemade baked beans for me and Eggs Bene for the GF. Both meals so, so good and satisfyingly tasty. Great coffee to compliment breakfast so as we were leaving I took another to go plus an enormous lamington for lunch.
Keep up the great work.

I've been there every day for two months for my coffee, as I live across the road, and there's always other customers being served, its beyond popular. Mostly I have latte and only one was lukewarm this is out of over a hundred of them so awesome work from all three baristi.
I'm fussy as I am both on a limited budget and am a well trained chef; the pies are perhaps a touch overpriced but are very addictive. Large servings of cakes. Friendly staff who are always cleaning when not serving, you could quite safely eat off of the polished wooden floors. I can't recommend anything especially because its all been so tasty.
Cheers.

We bought a coupon for 2 breakfast meals. The cafe wasn't very busy when we arrived, our waitress sat us down and asked what we'd like to drink, we said we'll look at the menu first and then we waited and waited for ages for her to come back, finally I went to the front counter to let her know we were ready to order. We were told someone would come to take the order soon, so we waited again, the cafe was not busy, 4-5 tables occupied only, finally someone showed up to take the order. We ordered the eggs Benedict on hash cakes and the corn fritters. My hash cakes were cold in the centre and tasted old, the same sort of taste as yesterday's potatoes reheated, a funny iron type of taste, my neighbour got a roasted tomato with her meal of the same meal, I did not. The eggs and salmon were fine, but the hash cakes detracted from a warm meal with cold potato.
My partner said his corn fritters were the worst he had ever had, stodgy, doughy and dry, they were bland and rubbery. He was starved so ate about a third of the fritters but said he didn't want tofinish them and we didn't want to wait for another meal as we had to get back to wk. he did eat the bacon. In summary a thoroughly disappointing meal with staff that were not welcoming or service orientated.
Sorry ,we will not be dining here again. Used to very good here, but must have new owners. During our meal no one came to ask if our meals were ok.

I have read other reviews and the corn fritters seem to have the same verdict from others. How long does it take to change a recipe for them. I would have thought one day would be sufficient, not two months. You are losing customers with yr corn fritter recipe and lack of care with meals

14.4.2014
Owner has made contact , has advised her staff has been spoken to, and she s improving quality. She also has refunded my voucher cost. Thanks ,it was appreciated.

The food at this place used to be so amazing..
We bought a voucher for two all day breakfasts at The Fridge, I ordered the big breakfast and my mum ordered the corn fritters with salmon. Nothing was salted - including the mash and creamed mushrooms - utterly flavourless. The corn fritters were huge and gludgy with a tiny amount of salmon on the top and the salad was just a few handfuls of greens without any dressing. The only highlight was the coffee which was up to their usual high standard. I used to eat at The Fridge on a regular basis when I lived in Kingsland but I don't think I'll be going back any time soon.

Went here for Sunday brunch. Coffee was good. I had the corn fritters and they left quite a lot to be desired. They were stodgy, slightly doughy and bland. They tasted like they were pre-made and then heated in the microwave - I have had much better elsewhere. One of our group had the mushrooms which were tasty. Portion sizes are generous. Overall a bit hit and miss.

My friends and I decided to dine here the other day as we heard from other people that it was a nice place. I decided to order the big brekkie and it was HUGE. I couldn't even finish it! Unfortunately I had to wait for a while for it to come out but was not disappointed when it arrived. We will definitely be back!

We have been coming to The Fridge for years and I have always recommended this place for its fab pies and great food. So this morning we were both starving and after not being in for a while decided to drive in from Titirangi for breakfast we needn't have bothered. The food and the service were terrible. I ordered a pie and salad and my husband ordered the sweet corn fritters. Alarm bells should have started to ring when they stuffed up our order giving me a different order and being offended when I said it was wrong then having it bought out by different people 3 times before it was right. Eventually when it arrived it was an over dry pie with a couple of green leaves with vinegrette on it, is that a salad or a garnish? Worse was my husbands sweet corn fritters which we're dry, tasteless and almost inedible he ate a third of it and refused to finish it when he complained the waiter replied sarcastically with that's good ??? and said he would tell the manager. We overheard him say out the front that it cant have been that bad because he had eaten at least half of it, how does that justify that we shouldn't complain or that the food was of poor standard he was hungry. We were never approached by the manager to see what our complaint was which I find a lack of concern for both the customer and their reputation. I mentioned it to another staff member when paying the bill who seemed irritated and snapped saying that he had told the chef, no apology just a go away attitude which I found extremely rude. I will never be back and will be telling others of our bad experience, its a shame that you don't take the customer experience seriously. Also it may be in your best interest to train your staff in customer relations a smart attitude when laying a complaint about a meal not being right when said customer is paying for it is highly offensive.

Very Retro tasty food, the flavor is as funky as those whom be serving it. Best pie I have had in my life!

Go try it now!... make haste!

Wow the best breakfast ever. Smoothies are the best hangover cure and their hash eggs bene are the best in town.
Admittedly the service is pretty slack but the superb food makes up for it.
Best plan of attack is buy a pie on the way out. I appreciate they're not cheap but are most definitely worth it
A J
The Fridge is a great cafe if you're a person who needs plenty of eating options. Their cabinet is a work of art. I especially appreciate the array of food as one of my best friends has a number of allergies and she can always find something to eat with not much hassle when she's in town.
Katherine
First and foremost, the service is amazing! We were waiting outside in the pouring rain for the rest of the group, and one of the staff invited us in, offered us coffee as we looked wet and cold..made me a great coffee, and took our orders (even though I didn't even have any money to pay at this stage!)
Food was good (daughter loved the pie!) and swiftly served, but it was the accompanying service that really wowed us--it was outstanding.
We will be back for more next time we are in Auckland :-)

only 4 words for it "bacon and egg pies" - the best on the planet (and my Mum agrees with me). Makes this place a destination - but you might need to order in advance cos they sell out - for obvious reasons. Yes the coffee is OK too blah blah.

This mornings breakfast was beyond my expectation.
On arrival we're were cheerfully greeted by three smiling faces Throughout our stay four different members... all friendly individuals.... of the team looked after us so 10/10 for service. Espresso was prompt with great creme and rich flavour.I had the Big breakfast .Free range poached eggs perfectly cooked with flowing yolk ,mushrooms presented in an interesting sauce, a tasty grilled potato mash, lean bacon, breakfast sausages and toasted ciabatta. Was superbly flavoured and hot.. Their kitchen has it sorted
My wife had a muesli /fresh fruit and finished all of it.
A few copies of the NZ Herald were there to relax into.
Thoroughly reconmended

The food may well be tasty.... but I wouldn't know since I never got to enjoy mine. I collected a round of lunches for my workplace and only on unpacking the bag half an hour later discovered mine wasn't there. Rang to chase it up. I expected, at worst, just an apology, or at best, an offer of another replacement item when I next came in another day. However I received neither. The frosty call taker told me since my item had already been heated I could come back and get it, or nothing at all. I wasn't sure what to say. Seemed like it was being implied this situation was totally my fault. I asked the call taker if she was in the habit of visiting cafes, paying for food and then deliberately leaving without it. I said from my point of view the fact is I did not know all of my order was not filled, so when, after waiting and being handed a large bag and told "thanks", I left. I asked if it was expected I unpack the bag and count out my items before leaving. Bottom line is, I won't ever find out if food at The Fridge is any good cause last time I paid for some I never got to try it.

We ate here for breakfast this morning in search of the best eggs benedict, and while we didn't find it, it was a very delicious breakfast!

So, eggs benedict... I loved the flavours, but it didn't feel like I was eating eggs benedict. The texture and flavour of the potato hash cake screwed with my schema of what eggs benedict should be. Again, the flavours were awesome, crispy bacon, perfectly poached eggs, delicious hollandaise, a lovely smear of pesto.

I had a chance to taste my wife's french toast, and that was amazing. Brioche, bacon, caramelised banana, maple syrup... just an epic combo of goodness.

The seating was a little out of left-field. 4 different levels, one of which is reached walking through the kitchen, which was kind of cool. Unfortunately there was some confusion with our food.

The service was okay. It was quite busy this morning, though. But where we were seated was wear kitchen staff had to go to reach their freezer which was a bit annoying after a while.

Went here for breakfast on a busy sunday morning, around 11. The amount of customers speaks volumes for the quality of this place. We found a table after about 5 minutes, and were told there was about a 30 minute wait on the food. We didnt mind after seeing how good even the counter food was. I ordered the french toast, and my wife had the field mushrooms. We also got ourselves a slice of their enormous carrot cake too, which we just couldnt resist.

After about only 15 minutes our food came out, and my wife said it was the best mushrooms she had ever had. My french toast was pretty good too.

The carrot cake was pretty awesome. Massive piece, good icing and toppings, which we asked for served with yogurt.

We had two mochas to go on the way out, which were awesome too.

Overall couldnt ask for anything more out of a great breakfast, and really wanted to take away one of thir amazing pies, but was just so packed from brekkie. Will definitely be back.

Awesome cafe! Loved the pies! Best carrot cake EVER. It is so good, cannot leave without a piece! Smoothies very average. I think this will become a regular spot for me!

Venturing over the horizon from the West I remembered having read somewhere about The Fridge.
Eye caught by the blackboard menu - always wanted to try Sardines on toast, ever since swimming among them in Garda See when I fitted a bikini.

SO......
... now I can save my money and DIY !!

I can peel back the lid of a 4-pack tin of sardines
I can cut 2 slices of tomato
I can put down a handful of naked , single variety salad greens
(I can do without huge tablespoonful of savage horseradish gratings)

OK OK, myabe I don't always have good thick Turkish bread to pop in the toaster.

But nor do I have waitstaff to reach over the table between myself and hubby to "Excuse me" top up the sugar bowl.

Maybe I should get out more - but I'll need to re-set the Navman. Native Trader was always intriguing and worth a visit.
Becky
Went to The Fridge for brunch on a weekend. The staff were extremely friendly and the service was excellent. Despite being super busy they had sufficient staff on to deal with the amount of customers. The vegetarian panini was absolutely fantastic and stuffed with lovely flavoursome veges (even those that are currently considered out-of-season). The carrot cake while being a little pricey was moist and delicious.

Went here for a brunch with my mum, totally worth it!!!

My mum loves this place and so do I now :-)

I had the bangers and hashcakes. So good!

Will be back!

I was there twice to have a coffee and something sweet, which was all really good. I really loved the atmosphere at the Fridge. It was super comfortable, chilling on a couch with my friend, but it’s good that they also have other sitting options. The savouries also look very yummy but I haven’t tried any of that yet.

I would have gone there more often, but unfortunately they already close at 4:10pm - would be great if they were open longer (like all cafes in Auckland…)

Been here a few times.
Find the coffee to be a bit hit and miss.
The cabinet food is awesome, really fresh and a good selection.
The meals from the kitchen definitely sacrifice quality for quantity so I'd recommend a pie or something from the cabinet.

In my opinion,

Cabinet food 5/5
Cooked Meals 3/5
Coffee2/5

Yummy pies, best pies ive tasted esp the bacon and egg pies mmmmmmmm.
But i must add,you must get there first thing when it opens to get a better selection.

My favourite local cafe. Indulge yourself with a freshly baked chocolate banana muffin and experience heaven. The coffee is always good and a good variety to choose from. Best Eggs Benedict in town, wonderful choice of salads. Staff are attentive and a good place to hang out on the weekends and during the week for lunch or breakfast with friends.

I like the Fridge. When we had a newborn baby I used to pop up the road all the time to get us tasty supplies!

The coffee is Karajoz and is pretty good. There is an Asian guy there (or was) who is an excellent barista.

The homemade pies are very good too (favourites are the Moroccan lamb and beef and Guinness).

They also have a good selection of salads, wraps and sandwiches if you're looking for picnic supplies.

In terms of sitting down for a meal, the breakfasts are pretty good. I like the eggs benedict they do on potato hashcakes - very tasty indeed.

They're a bit short on space so you can feel a bit cramped, but in summer it's great if you can sit outside (down the stairs and through the kitchen) and have breakfast in the sun.

Best if you get up early to go here though as it fills up very quickly as it's so popular - and deservedly so!

i needed a pie, one of these shop pies would not surfice, big ben, yuck, irvines, nah, not even the dependable but average mrs macs would satisfy, i wanted a REAL PIE.

so like the modern consumer in a foreign land i am, i turned to the internet, googled best pie in auckland, and hay presto the fridge.

big thanks to the folks who's recommendation helped me get my satisfaction, and even biger thanks to the proprietors of this excellent establishment, the pie did not disappoint.

Went for the beef and Guinness, good pastry, great flavour, decent amount of good meat, fair price, if you want a REAL PIE go there!

We all love the Fridge here. The food is spectacular. (yes, it is). Salads, wraps, pies, sweet - everything is fresh and delicious. My fav lunch at the mo is a selection of their daily salads... always get the combo of veges & flavours right.

THE BEST PIES IN AUCKLAND... fresh ingredients, fantastic flavours. One pie is big enough for a whole meal and its only $5.00, fantastic value for money. I also like their chicken wraps but their muffins taste very 'flour'ey, like too much flour has been used..they need more blueberry flavour or whatever else flavour they're using.

I LOVE The Fridge!!! They have the BEST pies, great tasty salads and the chocolate cake is good too (even better than mum's and hers is famous among all our family & friends!)

Good brunch, not too expensive. Nothing amazing but good food and nice back patio.

We got Grabone vouchers for a two for one breakfast deal. The Fridge seems to choose quantity over quality as the meals were huge, but food was bland.

Service was lacklustre, but polite. I've been here a few times, service seems to be hit or miss. High point would be the friendly encounter with the chef.

One thing that always brings me back to a cafe is friendly service and you can't much friendlier than the staff at The Fridge (without it becoming inappropriate). I visited The Fridge for the first time for lunch with friends, we were warmly greeted by the barista who gave us some menus and showed us how to get to the tables outside. The Fridge is a bit of a rabbits warren with multiple rooms and a large outdoor deck out the back. Their menu had the standard brunch options but we couldn't go past the cabinet food with amazing looking salads, wraps and sweet treats. They had the biggest Carrot Cake I have ever seen, it must have been at least 15cm tall. I had heard great things about their pies so tried a potato top, steak and mozzarella. Wow! It was one of the best I have ever had.
