Review French Press Cafe - Auckland Central

After an unpleasant experience at Wander Cafe and Bistro, we relocated here. The ladies were lovely and welcomed us immediately. Their service was prompt and professional. Crepes were indulgent and coffee was good too. It was really nice to see a sense of community when the ladies greeted their regulars and had their usual orders ready and waiting for them. A real treat for school holidays.

Absolutely magnificent spot in the Viaduct. This cafe just oozes class and sophistication. The meals are divine and you have a gorgeous view of the water and soil boats in the Viaduct...

. (07/02/2013) Nice place to visit on any day specially on a sunny day when you can enjoy the beautiful views of harbour while sitting outdoor. Good location. Fast service and friendly staff. Yum coffee. Love their latte as well as white coffee.

Coffee options are good and it’s tasteful as well.

The eggs benedict with bacon is amazingly good ! I love their cabinet food and fresh juice as well. They used to sell caramel eclairs which I had an addiction to..they were perfect. Probably a good thing it’s no longer available as I’m trying to lose weight.

Serves fresh made juice, nice cabinet food and reasonable selection on menu. Coffee isn't bad either. Yes, I have tried a good selection here. Staff are friendly and efficient even when busy.

Haven't tried the food but good coffee and friendly staff in a sunny relaxed setting. During summer they have a barista outside as well as one inside. Good viaduct views from the outdoor seats. Ice blocks are really good too!

Great coffee and good food! We didn't try too much in the way of food but the little pastures they do have are yummy. Lovely views of the Harbor.

Great place to meet friends/family for breakfast/morning tea for a bite to eat and a tea or coffee. The food is oo la la as you'd expect!

I often come here with my Mum. Really great food and service. Mum is gluten free and likes the gluten free waffles.

One of the best coffees I've had in a long time. The view was stunning.

A nice little spot for breakfast/brunch/lunch.
They have a kitchen menu which is only accesible from 7am-2pm and then theres cabinet food. The cafe is also part of the hotel so the service is to good standard.

For food, we ordered the “steak and chips” and the “cajun chicken salad”. We had the steak made medium, it was really good until it got cold and a bit tough but that was our fault, medium rare would’ve been better. For the salad, I wish the chicken portion was slightly bigger as I had to ration my way through it. Overall our meal was really nice, well seasoned and serving size was good too.

Would most likely go there again!

Got the ice mocha. Kinda like Starbucks but not too sweet. Like a smoothie coffee.

Beautiful location. Relaxing atmosphere. Great for before or after sofitel spa.

Service: 4/5
Presentation: 3/5
Environment: 5/5
Drink Quality: 4/5
Drink Quantity: 4/5
Price per person: $6-$15

The hot chocolate and banana chocolate chip muffin were delicious. Normally hot chocolates I've tasted are quite similar but this one tasted like an actual bar of chocolate. The muffin was soft and fresh and full of chocolate chips.

Had walked past this cafe many times, and finally had the chance to stop by for breakfast. It is tucked away on the side of the Sofitel but has its own outdoor area.
Ordered the eggs benedict with bacon which was really good. The potato hash cake was full of flavour, eggs perfectly cooked & bacon nice & crispy. Coffee slightly bitter, but nothing too concerning. Service was friendly

What a gorgeous place for a high tea. I went to this Cafe last to last weekend with my two girlfriends for high tea. We made a booking and requested for specific dietary requirements( different for all three), they called me back to check twice so they are very clear about that and happy to accomodate.
The place feels luxurious the moment you step in and has an esthetic feel to it, very bright and has a pleasant view.
The staff is really polite and welcoming. However, I didn't want to have any hot beverage and requested for a juice for which costed me a $9. Yeah, bit of a pinch might have had a champagne instead. Have to say the juice was extremely refreshing.
Everything they served from mushroom quiche to finger sandwiches also their crossoint are very flavoursome. There were more scones and sweet stuff compared to savory though. For me the coconut strawberry panacoda was the hero - it was delicious.
We spent good 3 hours there and had an enjoyable experience. Definitely going back!

Came here for lunch on a sunny Spring weekday. Service was nice and prices weren’t too steep. It’s a great place by the waterfront when the weather’s nice.

I ordered a soba noodle salad, which came with a whole bunch of veges. It had a nice sesame-based sauce, and overall felt like a healthy oriental salad. It was filling but didn’t make me feel bloated.

My colleagues had the waffles (which can be made gluten-free). The berry version comes with ice cream, which would be very tempting once summer rolls around!

Little cafe sitting off the site of the Sofitel hotel I guess as an alternative to the full experience inside. Despite my long back being crema-less and unloved looking it was a nice flavour.
3 egg omelette was light and well cooked but just lacked a little something. Not sure what but it wasn't quite there. Finished with a great muesli slice that was held together by a delicious light smooth honey with a flavour that ran through most but the pop of tartness from the berries.
Cafe location is adjacent the harbour with an option to enjoy the outdoor seating or tuck yourself away inside.

Dropped in for breakfast and we both ordered eggs bene with mushrooms. We had to wipe the table and clear the dirty plates ourselves as waiter no where to be seen. The eggs were over cooked, latte and mocha is burnt. Overall not a great experience.

This cafe is part of the Sofitel hotel and as you would expect from the Sofitel does food and coffee expertly. Its one of the few places that's open at 7am in the weekends and does great coffee
My go to food here is the ham and cheese baguette, just ham of the bone and swiss cheese in a fresh, buttered, crunchy baguette...perfect
You can sit outside if the weather's nice and it has a lovely outlook over the water.
Parking can be tricky during the week

Great coffee, this place has the best coffee in Wynyard area I have tasted so far! Well worth the visit (daily), also the food from the fridge is very tastey, be warned in the morning it can get busy but it is worth it

One of our favorite place for coffee before work. The service is great and has outdoor seating with nice view. Their spinach and feta muffin is the best!

Today I got the express bus over the harbour bridge from Albany to the Viaduct taking only 20 minutes on the expressway in rush hour to get to my first cafe stop for the day. My guess is the cars would have taken between 45-55 minutes longer!

I walked past Mojo at the bottom of the Vodafone building and decided to head to an old favourite which is attached to the Sofitel Hotel - 21 Viaduct Cafe. I had already made my own bread rolls this morning so got a takeaway Flat White - made expertly by the barista.

4.5/5 Coffee
5/5 Location (the views are stunning)
Food - not reviewed
4/5 Character
4/5 Seating

Coffee variety - Bach's.
Loyalty Card - need 9 visits for a freebie on your 10th visit.
Will try out the breakfast on my next trip.

A fairly average eggs Benedict with a slightly below average coffee. Would be nice if they had a Bacon option for eggs Bennie.. Bacon side was superb.
Nice cafe overlooking the amazing yachts of the Viaduct. This cafe has a small cabinet selection but also a menu of interesting looking dishes. Lots of seating in and out, plus a table with magazines etc to gather around. Service seemed friendly although they insisted on charging me more than the price advertised. Definitely a bit more stylish than some of the other nearby cafes, will come back to check out the dishes next time I am passing through!
Jay
Good coffee at a decent price. The customer service is always great here. Good good food too. It is a bit difficult to find seating that's comfortable.

Andy makes the best coffee! I would come back just for it! The egg white omelette, hot smoked salmon and rocket meal was a bit plain. Upside- the view.
