Review Murphy's Law Irish Bar - Auckland Central

Only 1 complaint. We ordered our food and the 2 people at our table ordered there's a few minutes later due to he had to ask his wife to change her order as the mussels were not available. Our food came way before theirs so we were not eating together.i think the kitchen should have brought all the food out together. Other than that it was great. Food was lovely

Very impressed with the 4 C's Pizza 🍕 and I had the wedges also... My friend e joyed her open steak sandwich but was a bit odd we had to pay $2 extra for a small bit of Aeoli 🧄... The staff were friendly... Our order came out fast...

Lamb shank was nice and tasty and tender. Brownie was yummy too! Service staff were very attentive and friendly. Glad we came to check out the menu tonight. Thanks Team!

We had my father's 80th birthday here today and staff went out of their way to make his day a special one. Food was awesome. Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Murphys Law. Thank you!

Damn good pizza, and service. Dont waste your time with the sports bar next door tho coz they pretty keen to close their door early (rudely in your face!)

(Pictures were taken 3 weeks before level 4 August lockdown) Man what a great feed, the chicken wings and the pizza were incredibly filling despite my huge appetite, paired with a glass of tap beer I couldn’t have asked for a more better combo! Staff were friendly and the wait was not too long despite it being somewhat busy, it was a great and lovely environment! People were cheerful and the atmosphere was lively. Would like to visit again when alert levels drop down in the future. Yum 😋

I go there every 3 months or so & have not been disappointed once. The atmosphere is convivial, not intrusive but adds to the experience. The food is pretty good for pub fare, not high end restaurant for sure, but better than what I can do & better than what a lot of other places serve. I most definitely recommend this establishment.

Amazing food. Went on a whim as we drove past and saw it had good reviews. Started with the Cream cheese, bacon and red onion pizza bread that was delicious. Had the steak and Guinness cob pie for dinner and was blown away. Was super tasty and really hearty and filling. Family had the lamb shanks that absolutely fell off the bone. Atmosphere was slightly quiet but welcoming, with some great wines on the menu. Would absolutely recommend!

Had the tippery burger was massive and delicious 😋 and pork ribs were nice and juicy yum yum , good Harty food

Good food, lovely atmosphere. Staff fabulous
Vikki Archer
Great food and the staff were awesome. Personality plus which made the experience all the more fantastic.
Jim Overall
Great British style pub, friendly staff and good atmosphere. Lovely food too. Music could be quieter down in the sit-down dining room, but otherwise, very happy to come back again soon. Oh, and very obliging and accommodating to our 1 yo daughter.
Rebecca Blackburn
Awesome service happy staff great atmosphere been a couple times will be going back thanks Team Rebecca and Bruce

If you are ever stuck in traffic on your way back from a road trip stop at this place just down from the Pukekohe/Drury off ramp, good food and nice cooling drinks. Nice friendly bar staff and some Irish humour on the menus to make you smile.

Had scotch fillet steak, with fries and salad and mushroom sauce. Nice pub feels, no heineken on tap unfortunately. Worth a stop if looking for a simple pub feed.

Staff are excellent, very friendly and the food is very reasonably priced - I had a big bucket of delicious mussels for only $14. Wide drinks selection. And the music is very good wink wink. Hard to complain, thank you for a good time

Went here for a birthday meal on Christmas Eve. Will not go again. A rare steak was served, clearly requested medium. My friend ordered pork belly which he could not eat, being a chef himself he was of the impression it had been badly cooked then microwaved. The price of the meals did not reflect the flair that could have been expected. Additionally, the service offered from staff was appalling, while waiting for service at the bar, one attendant was on his phone, a waitress was standing around and twice looked at me prior to leaving the bar to go into the restaurant area seemingly to look busy - all this while the 3rd barperson was busy serving a long order, after which he chose to address me as "love". The waitress mentioned was then heard to refer to my friend in a derogatory manner relating to his pork belly order/complaint. What we were given on compensation was a dessert - to share. Poor form. If you want good service and food value, do not go here. Clearly needs a stronger manager to kick ass with these disrespectful kids, get working or find another job

Went there last night. Great friendly service. Food was good and great atmosphere with friendly locals.<br/>The pokies room could do with a slight makeover bht not a biggie otherwise. 🙂🙂

Overall okay to below average, just keep an eye on your things and drinks. Some of the staff, not all are plain thieves and will take your stuff as soon as your back is turned, go to the toilet , dance etc. Four times this happened to us and the half pint manager chose to ignore the thefts and cautioned us. The place is run by idiots and kids who never finished high school obviously. Not sure if they are actually qualified to manage as the service and attitude is just plain shocking. Tourists running a local pub is not a good idea. Avoid the place and go down the road a bit further where folk and staff are friendly and welcome your business. Do not go here.

Went here on Waitangi Day after another restaurant, supposedly Fine Dining, although booked well in advance turned out to be closed. We struggled to find another restaurant open so decided on a pub meal. Was very pleasantly surprised with the food and ambiance. Only downside was the dessert menu but the lamb main was as good as I have eaten recently. The bar staff were great. We will not hesitate to return.

I haven't been here for dinner for at least ten years but often come for drinks which is fantastic. Unfortunately I wouldn't come for a meal again. It was really cold inside when we came which was quite unpleasant. I ordered the steak and guiness pie in a cob loaf because it sounded yum and different to try in a cob loaf. The meat filling seemed nice with the first couple of bites but then me and mum who had both ordered it realized that it was so incredibly salty that we could barely eat it. The cob loaf would have been nicer if it was a bit more toasted from the oven. The mashed potato had way too much butter in it and with the salty meat was just overkill. I have given it a two because it is a nice pub to come and have a drink and bar snacks, just don't get a meal.

service was friendly and food was well presented and tasted great. atmosphere covers all the bases at different times, music, sport and socialising

Great food, great atmosphere. When busy food can be a bit below par but overall love this place! The staff are amazing and I have been coming here for years!
David
Had a pleasant pub meal here on a quiet Monday evening with my 2 boys - lamb shank, mash and peas for me (not enough peas); 1/2kg ribs and fries for 14y/o and meat lovers style (small)pizza for 10y/o.<br/>We all finished our meals, portions were fine, washed down with a Stella and soft drinks.<br/>Food was tasty without being standout - about $65sh all up from memory. Friendly service and background Irish music pitched just right. Will return.
Colin Hunter
Have visited a few times always had good meals. Last visit I ordered a desert while my wife had another wine and they forgot it till sometime later and after a reminder they brought it to the table. Was not a busy day?
Annie Wilson
Great place to go out for a drink with a couple of friends and bucket of fries or wedges. <br/>But would not recommend it for food unless you want to waste your money!
Lana
If you love good old pub food and pub atmosphere you'll like this place. Has great food will a few different options to chose from. Most staff are really great! However this place does get really busy on Friday, Saturday, Sunday dinner time so prepare to wait a little while for food.
Kim Ormsby
Came here tonight with friends, place was busy as it was their weekly quiz night. We all had lovely meals and would recommend this place. Service was good, had Prawn Cocktail for entree, was really nice, maybe a bit overpriced for the 6 large prawns you get but tasty, mains we had Pork Belly, Lamb Shank and Chicken Breast.<br/>Would happily come back.

Have been here a few times to meet up with relis out this way.  This place is always buzzing.  Its great for a good old fashioned Sunday lunch in front of the fire place especially in winter, when it is roaring; or a catch up on a Friday night for a drink and dessert.  They have very friendly staff, and a nice atmosphere.  This place is down to earth, and the food I've had here has been very good.

Have been here many times for lunch over the last couple of years. My friend and i used to go every Friday but now she works and we dont go very often and boy do i miss it.I have found the staff wonderful and the food not the best at times but if you mention they will get it fixed for you without any question and it always come back wonderful [as it should of in the begining.]When we first started going the food was great but chef's change, however i have always found it a great place to dine. Lorraine.

I have worked at both the Jolly and Murphys, I am impressed at the amount of effort both Yvonne and Phil have put into providing an all round venue for the people of Drury . The meals are always as promised and the staff always are polite...... I am disappointed at the complaints on here as I believe it is better to raise your issues at the coal face...... I honestly believe most of these reviews are baseless and are penned by dishonest people....... Get down there and support a local business. <br/><br/>disclaimer i am no longer employed @ Murphy's ( 'ref' review guidelines )

Went here for lunch today, the two female barstaff weren't the most inviting, looked llike they had sucked on many lemons!. Waited one hour for our lunch with no communication, which the manager said "the staff member that served you should have told you there's a wait"! Umm noooo she didn't! Plus who wears UGG boots as part of their uniform?? Tack eeeeee!
Paula C
this was the second time i have been here and both times have found the staff very polite, helpfull and seem to be really enjoying their work. the menu has a good choice for every one i had the stake which i must say was one of the best i have ever had it was cooked to perfection i was with a party of four and we all thought that the price for the food and drinks was very good value. We will definitely be back and i would recomend that you give this place a go as this is the best place in the area.
Lily
My family and I went here for a meal last night and were very disappointed. The food was extremely average with restaurant quality pricing. The two kid's meals had absolutely no vegetables or salad inside the burger and as a side with the fish n chips, which was something they even found strange. To be fair, the atmosphere and music was good. Overall the food was a huge 'let down'...put simply, overpriced for poor pub food. We've sampled a few pub meals around the country and this was definitely not the best. We will not be returning anytime soon.

My partner and I decided to have dinner out and choices are slim for a dining out experience. We visited Murphy's Law on Saturday. Being responsible we caught a taxi as we were going to have a bottle of wine with our meal. Upon arrival, the first choice of wine was out of stock, so we ordered a more expensive bottle and a starter to share. After 2 hours we were ready to order our mains and share a bottle of wine to find out they had a very busy Friday and only had house left. This is disappointing. We cancelled our meal had to catch a taxi home when we could have driven and Went home hungry and wasted $50 of taxi fares.

UPDATE JULY 25th 2013<br/>I have been contacted by the owner, who has apologized to us for the service and food and has offered us a voucher for a return visit. Her email made us feel welcome to return and try Murphy's again. I applaud her for emailing me and telling us that changes would be made. Therefore I will remove my feedback, but I felt it was in the pub's best interests that our complaints were made. I also felt it was constructed criticism which would benefit the owners and their staff.<br/><br/>From my original post:<br/> We have been going there for the past 4 years. The first time we visited the menu was great, with a very fine manager....sadly over the next visit's it has gone downhill fast.
Tim
Really impressed! New staff and a new menu. Fantastic meals. As regular patrons we very nearly gave up ...so pleased we came back. We eat there at least once a week. <br/>Will be bringing friends with us next time. Great food great service great atmosphere. Murphys Law is back.
Dianne Stringer
Had a great meal there last night. The four of us all enjoyed our main meals and the desserts were to "die" for.<br/>Staff were very friendly and happy to oblige.<br/>It was quiz night so they sat us away in a quiet area.<br/>Lovely cosy atmosphere on a cold night.

As a regular dining patron...I gotta say it....Very, very disappointing....I have to feel sorry for the waiting staff. Our tables meals in the last 2 weeks are way beyond a joke.....suffice to say...The Chefs need a bomb...If you are going to have a menu, then cook what's on the menu &amp; ordered`....half cooked pizza bases ...&amp; no crumbs on crumbed squid rings, ?/?...; a burnt skinny patty in a bun ...Is not worth $22.00...Then to claim it was venison as ordered...when it clearly smelt like a beef patty to all of us...on request of a replacement meal..Hello ! "sorry we are out of Venison" .. We might look like morons but we are not...&amp; how can too meals served on the same table look entirely different, one being lovely &amp;; the other looking like dog biscuits...Sorry Murphy's...but it's eat before quiz from now on for us. It's been very bad experience dining there....What's with the "Bitter" garlic butter ? never tasted anything like it &amp;; two weeks in a row ?.. There was other inconsistencies as well ...I really don't like paying good money for such rubbish food..*It used to be a pleasure dining there*......

My partner &amp; I have, since it opened occasionally called in to Murphy's for an early evening meal as the "Jolly" is our local. <br/><br/>In the main, until now, we've been reasonably satisfied with the standard of the meals - especially for the price. <br/><br/>However, last Thursday's meals were nothing short of disgusting. I had the Irish Stew &amp; my partner a chicken dish. Both were left uneaten. <br/><br/>We have no complaints with the service and have in fact only received 1st class service from all of the young people employed as table waiting staff<br/><br/>Our advice would be to try and entice the previous chef/s to return as the current ones are not up to the job

Just got back for Murphy's. Will be my first and last visit. Took almost 40 mins for a bread and soup entree to arrive. Another 30mins and the the mains arrived. Sadly my potato gratin was stone cold in the centre, when I told the waiter he was shocked and said Really??? Almost like he didn't believe me. It was taken back to the kitchen and then I had to wait 15 mins for a replacement potato, meanwhile my other tale guests had completed their meal. My medium steak had now gone over as it sat waiting for the potato to be replaced. Not once did anyone come and ask us if we were enjoying our meal or anything. We left, called out a thank you toward the kitchen, the maitre d saw us but didn't even respond. So so bad on all aspects.
Colleen
We went here for the first time and it will be the last time.<br/>The service we got was rude to say the least and we were a larger party so 2 of us ordered the Irish stew which turned up cold and what look and tasted like left over from the night before reheated in a microwave. My father ordered a drink and got the wrong one and the young lady behind the bar argued with my father and told him he ordered this drink despite another person from our group who was standing with him when he ordered his drink and that was it and if he wanted what he ordered he had to pay for that as well.<br/>We will never return to this pub again. Rating terrible is an under statement.

We have been here a couple times, the first time was quite good but the second time we went recently and it wasn't as good as the first time the service was average my son who had ordered the ribs the first time we went loved them and the sauce was really nice, but the next time we went the ribs were gross different type of ribs and hardly any sauce he loves his meat for a 5 year old and didn't even eat them which is rare for him. Place is good for a couple beers but not so much for the food.
Trevor
As a regular at this pub I would like to express my total disbelief at the way the pub has gone downhill. We used to be able to get money at the bar to play the machines or for the tab. This has now turned into a major issue as the cash dispensing machine is nearly always out of money and you are frowned upon by asking the bar staff for money. I realise this is no fault of their own they only work there and have been left with a totally inadequate float. It is a bar with gambling facilities available therefore if you want your customers to participate in these activities they need full access to money (it's a no brainer) I personally have heard so many frustrated people growling about this situation it needs to be sorted asap. Thank you
Clive Pryor
Bizarre and inconsistent. <br/>Cheese, garlic and rosemary pizza entree. Too much cheese, couldn't really taste the garlic and either rosemary has changed recently but the garnish wasn't even that at all. Bacon and scallops sort of OK. <br/>Main. Why destroy a piece of nicely cooked broad-bill with a layer of melted cheddar cheese but no seasoning. Same with the steak. Nicely cooked but no seasoning. Show some respect for your ingredients guys. <br/>A bit of anaemic salad which had clearly sat under the lights but why then were the chips cold? And why the potato bake AND chips? I got salad but the other steak dinner did not. <br/>No condiments on the table and we even had to ask for knives and forks. <br/>Lovely Penna cotta desert though. Bar service is great but it isn't too flash on the food side. <br/>A great atmosphere and with a little effort could be really good.
David
My parents went here for a Christmas function and they said it was the worst meal they had ever had, over priced Sausage, microwaved chicken nibbles and lumpy custard. Plastic knives and forks. Maybe the Irish Leprechaun's were cooking that night.
Mike O\'Brien
Without doubt one of the worst "eating" establishments around.<br/>Came here a couple of months ago and took over 1 hour from ordering to food arriving. Food was very ordinary to say the least. The Chicken Salad had two or three bits of chicken and the rest is salad. Said I wouldn't come back. Decided to go again last<br/>Tuesday and nothing has changed.<br/>Still took over an hour to get some food even though only 1 table of 4 and 2 tables of 2 in the Restaurant. The Fettucine was dried out from sitting under a heat lamp and had almost no chicken. (Do they have something against putting chicken in their food?). The "Pork Roast" consisted of 3 or 4 slices of roast meat and the rest was boiled vegetables, hardly a roast. If you dare mention how bad the food is, the Bar Manager then shows nothing but disdain and proceeds to sulk. This is how NOT to run a business.<br/>I've been here twice and got exactly the same result both times. Would not recommend this place and will not be back.

Went there Thursday night just after 7pm - There was 8 of us and there was a bit of a fuss that they had to move a few tables and chairs to fit us in. No one was bothered so we started moving the tables and chairs to accommodate and were told off, then finally were accommodated.<br/>Waitress that served us was well presented, overly joyous and informed us well of the specials etc. The staff behind the bar however well a smile wouldn't have hurt - first impression was they didn't want to be there. <br/>Ordered a basic burger with some fries - asked to add an egg but that was forgotten, also asked for mayo and BBQ sauce which was informed that it would be extra, said OK and received just BBQ and then they tried to charge for the extras that weren't added. Waiting time on the food was not good at all over an hour and a half, most people who had come in that same time or just after us had already had their meals and were finishing up and leaving.<br/>Only good thing really was being with family and the two brothers that they got as a live act.
Rebecca Keesing
I have to say the majority of the bar staff are good. Attentive with friendly smiles. The food though is consistently inconsistent. Every week I order pizza and every week it comes out different, sometimes the chef has thrown a handful of greenery on top other weeks I don't see it on mine despite others at my table ordering the same and getting a bit of pretty chucked on. Some weeks there's masses of cheese to the point it's an overload then the next there's bugger all. One week there's a generous serving of seafood on top but the next pizza that comes along it's been eked out to the point one slice has nothing on it. It's become something of an in joke at our table. Nothing major really, it's all still edible and we all have a good time. But we do wonder what's happening in the kitchen at times. UPDATE: I went there last night (12/12/12) It was not at all good. Our table ordered fries, seafood pizza and a chicken salad. ALL were seriously lacking in presentation and quality. <br/><br/>ANOTHER UPDATE: 22/05/13<br/><br/>The food was so bad last night that my partner and I are somewhat reluctant to bother ordering meals there again. The wait staff were very good trying to sort out the problems with the kitchen. However, it's a cosy place and we go there each week to enjoy the quiz nite. We will return and hope the chefs/cooks manage to get their groove on in the kitchen.
Marian
We went with 5 adults and 2 kids after 7.00 pm. We had to wait for more than 1 1/2 hour for our food but people who came after us were serviced before us. The kids had to wait too long. The service was poor. Steak was nearly cold. We had asked several times for our food and a few times we got as answer it will be serviced.<br/>We had a celebration but it was very disappointed.<br/>Will not come back to this restaurant.
Diiya McCaw
We are regulars at Murphys and have not had a truly unforgivable experience. Had a bit of a wait once. Over an hour but the food was worth the wait and as one can tell, I value service above everything else and that is a full 5 stars for this establishment. We love the atmosphere and the food is great. But the service is awesome. Sad to hear that some people have had not so positive experiences. Maybe it was just a bad day.
Jen
A group of 7 ladies went on a Wed night for the quiz and dinner. Two of us had the Irish Stew - the meat was soooo tough with white fat (Cold) and the gravy was jelly like and only warm. We told the waitress as did not eat hardly any of it and she said would tell kitchen staff. We did not even receive an apology so that is the last time we will go there.
Rachel
Been here for Sunday brunches a few times, always a good feed. Gets the tick of approval from the partner for their big breakfasts too :)
Jo
I go to Murphy's a fair bit as its just down the road from work. I think the service is great &amp; the food is always good.
Jarrod
We had our Xmas function for 18 people and the food and service was excellent. We pre-ordered our meals prior to arriving and requested a set time for service, the meals were served on time and all together. No one was left waiting. <br/>Food was very good and the portions were a good size.
Deb
Went here for a car club run. My daughter, son in law and 4 preschool children ordered lunch and after an hours wait found out that their order did not make it to the kitchen. Kids were thirsty so I thought the least they could have done was offered a round of drinks for the kids but noooo. Had to pay full price. Meals took another half hour after this and no apology, discount, nothing. The kids meals were a joke, deep fried "Tegel" chicken tenders and chips piled up so high in a deep bowl that there was no way they could be spread out to cool down for the little ones. Thoughtless. Would never go back there again and I am amazed that they can survive financially if this is the service they provide. Disgusted.

5 Sept 2012<br/>Went here for dinner again last night and it was FABULOUS! I had the eye fillet and my friend had the scotch fillet. they were both cooked to perfection!!!! The garlic loaf to start with was yummy and the house made garlic butter delicious. The aoli that was served with the shoestring (my fav!) fries was DEVINE to, definitely a must!!!! Great job again guys, will definitely be back again soon!!!! :)<br/><br/>Visit round Aug 2011<br/>Wow, after reading the below comments my expectations weren't that high however, we were absolutely blown away! We had dinner here last night, a table of 7 (which included a couple of chefs!) and the meals were absolutely fantastic! Some of the best meals out we’ve had in a long time! The 3 steaks on the table were cooked to perfection as was the lamb – mouth watering! The other meals were equally delicious (the mushroom entree another standout for the table!) and the presentation was excellent. This is a pub, not a fine dining restaurant but the food was right up there!!! The service was as good as any other pub, the staff friendly and exactly what I would expect for this type of establishment - again, it is a pub, not a fine dining restaurant and perhaps some of the other reviewers forgot this??? Well done guy’s, we can’t wait to come back!

Sat 9th July - Thats it - I am not going back, had enough. I first started going to the Jolly back in the early 90's. I was even a waitress as well. The main meal was shocking, the man is a cook not a chef as the for the waitressing staff - what a joke . What happened when you ask the guest if they are enjoying the meal or would like anymore drinks?? All staff need training in the basic and a bullet up the backside. I am sadend that is how low hospitality can go and people (staff) think they are doing such a good job.<br/><br/>Regards - 10yrs hospitality Bay of Islands, Russell.

I went there Saturday 14th may for a 21st and could not believe we had to pay $27 for a buffet meal of rubbery cold chicken that couldn't even be cut with a knife, pork that was mostly fat and a couple salads..... most people gave up on the meats and ate bread rolls and salad (bread rolls were actually quite nice) staff didn't seem concerned when the issue was raised and nothing was done to remedy it. We actually stopped buying drinks so as not to give them anymore of our money. Will never be going back there..... 20/05/2011 Murphys came back and have done well at rectifying the situation which is much appreciated, so much so we will be going back for a second try and will hopefully be able to post a much better response. Thanks Yvonne!!
Rachael
Place was very nice and cosy.<br/>Waitress was very helpful-didn't like that we had to find out after A few Min's of waiting at a table- to ask for a menu book. Its a bar so we are to know to ask for the menu book?OK fair enough- why the restaurant food- mains/entree`s/desserts? if its not a restaurant?!<br/>Anyway the food was great- i ordered a steak meal well done because i was pregnant at the time- steak came out rare :(,i told the waitress i had asked for well done steak- she asked if i wanted it to be cooked again. It just put me off to find out eating Thur it that it was rare in the middle.I told her no thanks and hope that another pregnant person doesn't experience that. Over all the food was great although we got our meals at different times for a couple and one child. ten Min's apart.. not great service!. Will go back again and give it another go if i receive the same meal problem- says alot about the cooks you hire. Will keep you posted.

We would like to thank all management and staff at Murphy's for such a wonderful night on Saturday 7th May. We had a private function there. All the staff were fantastic, awesome bar service and great comments from all our guests re the superb supper. We had a fabulous night and would highly recommend anyone wanting to have a function at Murphy's. Again thanks heaps for making the night so memorable. Chris Steven

We have been on numerous occasions for drinks and its fine as a pub. As far as the food goes its a whole different story. Ordered a fish and chips and the chips were fine but the fish stunk. It was really funky. Before even attempting to eat it I sent it back and was told that the manager would come and talk to me about it. Half an hour later another meal came along just as we were getting the kids ready to leave! Seeing as we had already paid for it we thought we would give it a go. It was worse. It was so uncooked that the fish was still transparent. Through the batter the fish was hard, rubbery and most of it was transparent. On my way back to the bar a bloke that had witnessed the first return said "AGAIN!", I showed him and he too was stumped! <br/>We were given a refund and the manager could not explain why the fish was so bad and he assured me they would be looking at a new supplier. So weeks later we thought we would give it another shot, being local business owners we believe everyone deserves a second chance. Bar was fine. We ordered the Calamari starter and it looked OK, a little dark in the batter stakes more likely due to old oil in the deep fryer but we could handle that it was more the fact the squid had not been scored properly and had not cooked through and was like warm white thick cut rubber in a crispy border line burnt batter. No exaggeration needed. To add to that when my wife took it back they were so patronising it was offensive. 'OK luv, OK luv, OK luv and what do you want me to do about it?' <br/><br/>I was given a refund and again told that the supplier will be looked into and I would be hearing from the owner of the bar about the previous experiences. It was the middle of Jan and I am still waiting to hear from them. I would probably not have bothered with this feedback had they called by now but alas, they have failed us again. Looks like it the trusty old Two Fat Cows from now on then.

went for dinner last night and was absolutely fantastic went here about 3 months ago and food was really below average so was hesitant in going back ,i instantly noticed they have a new menu and was pleasantly surprised that the food was a really really great, service was OK nothing over the top but it is a pub, will definitely be back and telling my friends to go and try the new menu!!!

Hi there<br/><br/>Just wanted to pass on my thanks to all the staff from Murphy's Law who helped make my 21st a fabulous night (27/11/210). The staff were fantastic, very friendly and professional, and we were treated very well from arrival to departure. A special thanks to Rachel, Liam and Steve, all have fantastic customer service ethic, and please pass on my complements to the chef...food was great.<br/><br/>Once again thank you for making this a night to remember<br/><br/>Regards<br/>Regan

When looking for a restaurant to celebrate my daughters birthday we selected Murphy's as we were looking for a casual family friendly local venue, this was to be our second time in the last six months. We enjoyed our previous meal so had no concern in taking the visiting in laws who travel extensively, I called requesting a table placement out of the way, we were surprised to find Rachel who had taken our booking had arranged a banner and candles as a surprise. All the meals were great, my son's eye fillet was huge and came with hand cut fries and my daughters favourite ribs were perfect, all the servings were sizable and well presented, although this is a pub we were very happy with the entire evening and will be back soon.

OMG Carol get a life. I have eaten at Murphy's quite a few times and only ever had a problem once which the staff quickly rectified. Did you think of actually telling staff you had a problem. Cant fix it if you don't speak up. I've eaten the eye fillet before never came with shoestrings but big thick chunky homemades. OK so the menu is getting a bit same old same old but they do have a new lunch menu pretty darn good for the price as well. Last time I looked Murphy's was a pub if you want over the top food with prices to match try one of the many restaurants on the waterfront.

Haven't been there for three weeks, has not improved. 3 weeks ago,1 meal was the seafood platter to be told there was no mussels(on a friday lunchtime)there's at least 3 or 4 dishes with mussels in it,so what's wrong with the chef? Today, well, ordered eye fillet steak with garlic butter. Though cooked relatively correctly came out covered in some sort of gravy, no garlic butter, and a pile of supermarket shoestring fries. The burger, was a beef burger, thats fine but again a pile of supermarket shoestring fries. The standard seems to have dropped a lot, where's the seasonal menu changes instead of the old ho hum same thing over and over again. The chef seems to lack a bit of passion for the job and has no flair or maybe there needs to be a new chef that has the passion for their job.Won't be back in a hurry, along with the others that don't seem to be there anymore. It used to be pretty full on a friday lunchtime, today 4 tables. Not a good look, got to hurt the turnover eventually.

Unless I'm retarded and unable to read - I'm sure this place has on it's website "children friendly". We were there as a group of parents and our kids tonight (11th Sept 10) for a celebratory drink and a meal after our soccer club prize giving (Drury Soccer Club)and because there were a few of us,we reserved tables. It's a miserable night and our children (and I have to admit) are well behaved children, however are still children and can be a bit rowdy, played by the bay windows, were told to go outside as they were being too noisy and some of the more senior patrons that were there weren't too happy about the noise and plus the area they were playing in was an adult area (what a load of crock!).I was angry!! and I should've at that point packed up my family, demanded a refund of our $104 dollar meal and gone to Two Fat Cows who have always made us feel welcomed - dirty boots an all.Shame of you Murphy's Law management for allowing your staff to behave this way.My family and I will never go back to your establishment. If the food was good I would've just let that go but it was terribly disapointing. You can rest assured I will be contacting you tomorrow to demand an explanation of your bartenders actions.

Have been there 3 times for a meal 1st time friends kids had chicken and it was under cooked and as kids don't no they eat it and that avo she was sick. 2nd time asked for a chicken salad and the chicken was left out. 3rd time was a joke ordered chicken satay it comes with rice except they had not cooked any rice now how hard is it to cook some rice?? Lamb shanks were cooked in a microwave they were honestly so tough we struggled to get a fork into them, they would have been better used as a hammer or speed bumps in the car park that's where they belonged. Then ordered the mud cake as a dessert and surprise surprise they did not have any. The worse bit is they make you pay for the meals before you get them. We did go and complain to the manager at the time Liam how was so rude apparently hes a chef, if this was the case why did he stand there and argue with us over the quality of the meals and insist that the meal was perfect no manager should stand there and have a fight with his customers. I wouldn't have even fed it to my dogs would have to be the worse restaurant in Auckland. Strongly disagree you don't go for a meal the staff are rude and Liam should not be arguing with customers

We went for a birthday dinner on 03/08/10. It was lovely! The staff were so friendly, the other patrons sang happy birthday to my dad, we sang happy birthday back to their birthday boy, it was great fun!<br/>the food was fast, and it was devine. The lamb shanks fell away from the bone as soon as i cut into it, and everyone else had nothing but great things to say!

We had the worst food experience at Murphy’s Law on Sunday 25th July. We went out for a family lunch 7 adults and one child, to celebrate two birthdays. On ordering we were told that the kitchen had a 20 minute late.<br/>After 45mins the bread arrived. We then complained 3 times and still no food. The table next to us you had order after us was served first.<br/>Our food was finally delivered 1 hour 45 minutes later. This was so bad our little girl had to wait to long for sausage and chips.<br/>We did get a discount but the whole experience was very upsetting. Very bad customer service and help. Shame on you!!!!

Not a very nice place when the local sober driver cant even enter the bar because he has a slight stutter due to his speech impediment and when the police say hes fine the call still comes down to the doorman who still says NO!<br/><br/>This situation is very embarrassing for me and I would like you to speak to your security as they are not very professional as I did stay around for a while and they did allow intoxicated persons to enter the premises without any questioning<br/><br/>No wonder they cant get the expansion of a 3am licence. They don't deserve it.

We are locals at Murphy's Law EVERY friday to get together with our mates and have a good night. we know all the bouncers and most the staff which makes the night even more fun . Our group of friend's love Murphy's :) every one is soooo friendly and always has such a lovely smile :) Thanks for all our great Friday nights .

went for lunch, ordered Nachos these were then MICROWAVED and came to me cold and soggy. If I had wanted a microwaved meal left over from the night before, I would have stayed at home. a shame as I was looking forward to making this place our regular... won’t be going back..

My husband and I went there with a group of 6 last night as our first night out as a couple after the birth of our first baby, so we were feeling a lil out of the 'clubbing' loop and went to Murphy's on a recommendation as the new Friday night local. It was midnight and it was due to close at 1am, despite the hour difference, we had to talk our way in.<br/>Boys being boys were on the sidelines quietly keeping to themselves watching their girlfriends having a laugh on the dance floor and buying the drinks. As my husband went to pay the $60 for our round, he was pulled aside by the bouncer to discuss that fact that he was pointed out as someone who was particularly intoxicated because he was spotted swaying. He proceeded to lecture him on the fact the police were here and that Murphys were looking to extend their licence to 3am, but need to be seen to be 'handling' the crowd...oh and can you please take a seat to the side to 'take some time out.' As the good wife I sat with him for about 10mins, then we realised our drinks were still on the bar, so went back to dish them out and carry on with our night. Another 10mins later that same bouncer found us and yelled at me like I was deaf, dumb and blind that he'd asked him to wait and he's left his corner and would like us and our group to leave. Excuse me??? We are over 30, parents, business owners, not to mention YOUR CUSTOMERS, therefore you do not qualify nor have the right to treat us like your 5 yr old children who have left the naughty step. To add, a guy who couldn't be more that legal, knocked his beer over the bar and then slipped over it and fell down right in front of him and all he got was a stare, but no lecture, warning, naughty step, let alone asked to leave. RACIST?? PICKIN' ON THE GOOD LOOKING ONES HAVING A GOOD TIME?? OR THE RICH ONES?? In the 45mins we were there, we managed 2 rounds and over a $100 over the bar....Murphys if you are after a 'dark', poor, ugly, miserable crowd then you're bouncers are definately working overtime to make sure you achieve your target market. P:S you get one star for your female bouncer and the bar staff (ex Finns).

I am amazed at the awesome experience we had on Saturday night. 19 adults 6 children. We were looked after from the time we walked in. The staff were amazing! Great effort to keep the kids happy and amused with ordering their meals first and giving them some colouring in do to. Great service and will be back again for sure. Keep up the good work.

I am/was a regular customer at this bar. The past three experiences has been abhorent when it came to closing. The first time when we went to get a drink at 12.50am we were told the bar had closed. Fair enough we thought, so went back a couple of weeks later to the same thing at 12.45. I asked what time the bar actually closed to be told 1.00am. Hmmm so this Saturday we went again to have the bar closed at 12.30 and told so very rudely by the bar staff. Everyone in the place was cleared out very quickly and out onto the pavement. Everyone was offended by the behaviour and we decided to head up to Stampede Bar. This was not only the group I was in, but also many others from Murphys. When there, the majority of the bar and security staff from Murphys headed in as well. Everyone is disgusted and appalled by the way the bar ending time ends at random times - not even a bell to call last drinks. Myself, as well as the majority of my group will not be back to Murphys on Saturday nights - loss of a lot of money there I think. Quite disgusting, would not recommend an evening out at your pub for people who want a good time!

I am still amazed at the awesome eating experience we have just had. 16 adults 5 children walked in at 11-30am for my mums 60th and were looked after from the time we hit the bar. The staff were amazing, my family are a daunting prospect to even the most seasoned establishments 4 vegos 1 vegan, 2 Aitken diets and a herd of grazers. From the pan seared scallop entree to the mammoth mixed grill this was an experience second to none. I have read the 2 negative reviews prior to this what do you want a free meal or maybe you have shares in Jordon's ha ha yeah well whatever the case must be your delusional. This is the quintessential gastro pub from the children being served first to the vast variety of whiskey and beer this place rocks. Thanks Wayne

I had a bad experience here. I upset the barmaid by asking for service as the person that walked up to the bar after me was served first, then again when I said a smile would be nice. I thought afterward I would apologise to her so asked the barman to get her only to be told "Don't f#*%en worry about it" RUDE!!!<br/>I approached the barmaid and said sorry but she would not accept my apology!!! (She could have pretended) No hospitality here. Our Hawaiian pizza turned into a meat lovers!! I would not recommend this place to any person and am embarrassed as I am a Drury local.

My husband and I popped in one night and I was surprised! I found the staff that night rude and never smiled once. Ive heard cussing by the staff so would not like to take my kids there for a meal! I noticed only some people being told to remove hats while others that had been there longer were allowed to keep there's on. Are the staff racist? The tables were only half cleared after the folks next to us had finished eating...who wants to look at dirty napkins and food left on there table for 15mins, have they not heard of cleaning up properly. The place looks nice but we won't be back.
Jane
Great food - excellent value for money. Will definitely be back. Only complaint was there needs to be more seating for diners &amp; maybe some heating. Although there was a lovely open fire the room was cold if you were not right near the fire.

I think the place is great. Its like having a Finn Mc Cools right at your doorstep instead of trapping off to Manakau. Ive had lunch and dinner there and found the staff quick and on to it.

Me and my partner popped in to see the new bar when it opened and found the service was excellent, they had a great pub menu, something for everyone and we've been back almost every week since, i recommend it to everyone.

We have visited this bar and restaurant several times now. We have been there for lunch and dinner, with and without our children and a couple of times with a big group. The service has always been brilliant. Really friendly staff. The facilities were very clean and tidy.<br/>We will be back.
Sarah
Although the pub looks really neat and was clean and tidy the service was disappointing. It look about 10 minutes of waiting at the bar for us to be served. While we were waiting a customer who came after us was served first.
Michelle Just
Have been twice, both times excellent service, excellent meals. Well recommended.

went to Murphy's law for a drink and a meal and was disappointed as it took ten minutes to be served at the bar while there was 6 bar staff standing around chatting. when i order they had mispoured two of my drinks. the food takes to long to come out and there is no table serve for diners that is if you can find somewhere to sit(seating is very minimal) didn't enjoy my experience at all. couldn't recommend it anyone

An excellent dining experience - we just called in to see how things had changed and were delighted. The service was fast, efficient and friendly and the meals were top class. We'll certainly be coming back.

Now called - Murphys Law Irish Bar‎<br/><br/>New owners and new name since very late 2008. My family and I had Sunday lunch at Murphys Law Irish Bar (Jan 2009)and could not ask for better service or food. The staff on duty were extremely friendly. The food was hot and cooked to perfection. <br/><br/>The new owners have certainly done very well on renovation from what we saw. Decks outside in a couple of areas, new carpets and flooring, new clean modern toilets, well done indeed. <br/><br/>A lot of tidying up since we visited about a year or more ago when it was the Jolly Farmer. When it was Jolly Farmer, we too were dissapointed with the service and food, but NO MORE, we will be back.
