Review Saint Alice - Auckland Central

Nathan
The level of service was okay , most staff were friendly. Food was ok, but the oysters weren't fresh at all. It wasn't worth $38 for 6 oysters that weren't fresh. Pasta and pizza both require more seasoning. Kumara fries were the only meal we enjoyed, and the tamahawke steak took an hour it wasn’t bad though. We asked for medium rare, and it was delivered virtually well done. The view was magnificent.

Want to go Brewery. No open Had a drink here instead. Expensive but you get what you get for with the 29 dollar jug right by the sea. Views great. Weather great. Beer great. Not much else to ask other than sparing mercy on me wallet

We came here for a drink. It's a great option for catching up with friends. Nice view over the viaduct. The Zeffer red apple 🍎 cider was delicious. Service was friendly and efficient.

Youthful young scene, has beautiful view being on the 2nd floor. Very attentive service and helpful. Highly recommended.

Great food and lovely atmosphere. The staff are also very friendly. There are lot of sharing plate options, typical spend here would be $50

My daughter and I meet for our monthly catch-up, and we had a lovely time. Relaxed and professional service, beautiful setting, and the pizza we shared was perfect! Great options to choose from the drinks menu also. No my first visit. Nor will it be my last.

Great date or brunch with friends spot. A must go for those visiting Auckland. Beautiful views of the viaduct on a sunny day. Delicious cocktails and food, and amazing free seafood for those in the mood. Clean and beautiful venue. Friendly and helpful stuff.

Nice bar, restaurant. You go upstairs and have a brilliant view into the harbor. These place is very friendly and they have a great menu card. We had only a cocktail but also here they have a interesting variety. We can absolutely recommend this place for a drink and view in the harbor.

Easy walk from transport station. Amazing views of the viaduct. The food was delicious, we got pizzas and sharing platters. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. They allowed us a split bill, which I greatly appreciated it.

You might reserve a table via their website. I appreciate we get a good view table. The food is excellent. Highly recommended.

In Auckland for the weekend & wanted to eat at the Viaduct. They accommodated my request to have a water view, much appreciated! So pretty & a great place for people watching. The good: Cool vibe. Great location. Gnocci was out of this world, I honestly almost licked the bowl. Lamb was delicious & the fries were good. The bad: My friend summed up the pizza as "boring" & she's completely right. Was extremely underwhelming. Just a little too loud! Very cool vibe & all with a dj, but you can hardly have a conversation & we were over the other side of the bar. They also really need to sort out a better payment system, as we waited around 10mins at the bar just to pay, I see why they take your card, it made me want to just walk out. I would go back just for the gnocci though. 👌

A favourite go to spot on a sunny day or a clear night! Delicious food and drinks, the staff are really attentive and the view is awesome.

The location is stunning. The food is average on the most part, it is geared towards being bar food which can be awkward during the daytime. It’s seasoned but simple food, chicken was a bit dry. I’ve ordered it twice with different company and one time it was a tad pink in the middle... I asked the wait staff to heat it up some more and another person who worked there, likely the manager, got very defensive. At most establishments, people would just admit the error or just agree to heat it... I’ve cooked chicken enough times to know if it’s cooked thank you. Other than that every experience has been good, so I hope for the sake of others that person is no longer with Saint Alice.

First time visiting and would def visit again! The staff were super friendly, fast, and the food came out super quickly. Had the prawn pizza, boneless thighs and calamari and they were all great! Their sauces and dips for the thighs and calamari were probably their specialty.

Service was a shame. Waited a little bit to be seated which was ok because its understandable to wait for a table. Then when we were seated we weren’t served. Tried to wave a couple of times to staff but they weren’t assigned to our table and couldn’t serve us as they said. Completely understandable for them. After at least 45 minutes of nice chat and a nice view we decided to give up, so not much to base the review on. I understand why the line to Dr Rudis was a lot longer now...

A very wet afternoon I found my self at a loss on where to eat. Many trips to the neighbouring Dr Rudis I have noticed the place but never ventured in.

Stunning view of the viaduct even in the rain.

Kingfish crudo was good not sure about the nuts in here.
Fried chicken was ok a bit on the drier side but its a bigger portion and the accompanying sauce and lemon were a good touch.
Kahawai toasts. Winner! Suprised to see this fish on the menu so i had to go for it. Great dish great flavours

Venue is great, and food quality was pretty on point. Came here for my little cousins bday lunch, we ordered a lot, totalling around $400 but left the restaurant still hungry which was my disappointment here, I hate to compare but when looking at Dr. Rudi’s sharing plates vs. here. Dr Rudi wins by a mile. We had no left overs, everything we ordered, we demolished within seconds, we all wished we ate before we came because we were all pretty hungry and saving our stomachs for what we thought would be a big feed (especially with the amount we spent.)

However! Fries were so good, the prawns were amazing very sad that the serving size was so small :(. The beef was so good aswell and also the green beans on the side, fried chicken was yummy and moist. I mean, overall the food quality was great! And cocktails were yummy! Just was a let down that we left still hungry and ended up at Oyster and Chop afterwards, lol

The view from our seating of the outside viaduct area was amazing - especially with the sun! The food was also great. Can't think of anything better to have asked for. Will return!

Lazy Sunday and in need of a cocktail, Saint Alice you delivered. The food was even better. Notable standouts were the pork and the steak. The gravy on the pork was so good that we ended up dipping everything into it. 10/10

Went for my friends birthday and had so much fun!! We got the truffle friends a salad and the small sharing chicken and everything was great. To top it all of the service we had was amazing!! The man serving was so nice and helped us get our drinks (the Dodo is so good) overall it was a great experience and I’d definitely come back again
S&G Take Auckland
Our friend booked this place for a Birthday lunch on Sunday, after hearing great reviews about the places.

Pros: Fabulous location, beautiful views, and the layout of the restaurant is gorgeous. Definitely a great place to host an event.

Cons: The food! Apart from the truffle fries which were delicious the rest of the meals was almost inedible (and we're not fussy)

The Beetroot pasta was literally one of the worst dishes i've ever eaten. Tasted pieces of rubber with no taste at all, i'm surprised chefs in the kitchen are okay with serving a dish like this. It really needs to be tasted by them or staff for some feedback.

The steak with cheese sauce was again really bad. Steak was burnt from the outside but rare as in the middle. The cheese sauce which I was so excited about was bitter and did not taste like cheese at all. The potatos on the side were delicious but very very salty.

Fried chicken was okay. More on the dry side but decent.

The highlight was probably the cake my friend bought from elsewhere.

For the pricing ($38 for the steak) i'd much rather spend a bit more/less and eat at neighbouring restaurants like Soul or Oyster and Chop where you can get the same vibe with much better food.

Saying that the venue is lovely and we really really hope your food improves because we'd definitely give it another shot.

Dined here for a birthday dinner and the ambience and food was delicious! Was nice to experience fine dining for once. This place knows how to cook up a storm and top their dishes with amazing sauces! The dishes included the kingfish sashimi (super fresh that it melted in your mouth), meat platter, pork & spiced carrot croquette, roasted butternut salad (can't stress enough how good the sauce was), fried chicken (crispy, but the meat itself could have been more juicy), wagyu short beef rib fillet (super tender, loved it), rolled porchetta, woodfired lamb rump and the woodfired eggplant. Everything was so delicious, and the view facing the Viaduct was a bonus! Lovely staff as well!

We came there for advertised oyster happy hour. However they cancel their offer but didn't remove their advertisement.

View is amazing

What an amazing place, we were served by Cameron who made us some excellent cocktails and was full of knowledge and conversation. The place was right on the water and had awesome views, again Cameron recommended that we sit in the corner for the best view. We will be back.

Said there was $1 oyster happy hour online and on Zomato but when I went in they said they stopped 4 months ago.. :( went ahead with the order and it was still yummy though.

My viaduct fave.
I started coming here for the $1 oyster happy hour.
But stayed for the great food and amazing view.
Their food menu isn’t large, but everything is delicious. I recommend going outside of your comfort zone and getting the bone marrow- it is out of this world! I’ve come here many a time and just demolished one by myself.
The pork crackling on the new winter 2019 menu is great and those little oyster McMuffins - Devine.
Really highly recommend.
Only bummer is you can’t book a table- so summer is super super busy and sometimes you can’t get in....
Rita
Came here for my birthday on a Friday night, didn’t have the option to reserve a table or make a booking so understood that I might not get a table. It was super busy and buzzing with people there for after work drinks! Waiter was lovely & said we would need to wait, didn’t expect a table due to how busy it was but after buying a drink from the bar the waiter took us to our table. Food is delicious!!! Deep fried oyster is a must, as well as the chicken however the steak and cheese was a bit of a let down. Overall I was very satisfied with the food and the service considering how busy it was. A bit hard to navigate through drunk, arrogant people who don’t want to make way however won’t let that stop me from coming back!

Got the woodfired steak, oyster muffin, pork crackling and bone marrow. Enjoyed the muffins and crackling the most. Oyster is nicely deep fried and tastes great combined with the muffin bread. Pork cracking was full of flavours and you'll enjoy this if you don't mind the taste of MSG. I'd only recommend the bone marrow if you actually like bone marrow or else it can just taste like eating pure fat. Personally, I quite enjoyed it, especially the fact that you can spread it on the sourdough. Least favourite would be the steak because of how it was cooked although the potatoes that come along with it were delicious. Probably wasn't the chef's best work on the day. Nonetheless, nice ambience with great views and overall tasty food.

I went there with my friends, ordered the fried chicken, and was good, the taste of the pork turned out as a bit of disappoinment. Ordered couple of cocktails, and it was real good

Order chips, clam, fried chicken, woodfired chicken, broccoli. Fish. Price is reasonable. Taste and look is excellent. Overall the food r way too salty. Recommend trying their woodfired dish. Also with a nice view.
Grace
Best restaurant in the viaduct with amazing food and a spectacular view and environment! You MUST MUST MUST get the fried oyster McMuffins 😍🤤
12.5/10!!

My new favourite place in Viaduct. Went there on a Monday night, group of 4 and I loved it.
The service was impeccable and food delicious.
I didn’t do the ordering and we shared plates but everything was top notch, especially some small bruschettas with ham and figs.
The thing I loved most as a non alcoholic lover is that I wasn’t having a hard alcohol selling from our waiter. He was happy just offering me tap water.
Would go back soon and will upload photos of the place too because it was beautiful.

We came here for a 21st birthday dinner for 20 and ordered several small and large share plates and some sides: crispy pork crackling, smoked bone marrow, goats cheese, wood fired chicken, wood fired steak, and their potato chips.

The service was great, friendly and patient staff, and they offered to take my coat. I loved the warm and cosy surroundings, it was also overlooking the Harbour, very pretty scenery.

The food was quite good. Only the steak was a bit salty at times - may be uneven seasoning. The bone marrow also had a very slight stale aftertaste. However the chicken was tender and the crispy pork crackling was well seasoned and not at all oily, the cheese and mayo dip complemented the chips well, I loved the smokiness of the goats cheese.

Would definitely come back and try out their other selections.
Saint Alice, a new and buzzing rooftop eatery/ dancefloor (they have a life dj) is a place to check out! The perfect place and menu for friends to meet up, share the plates around and enjoy a good atmosphere! The best of the best views of the viaduct and the new Park Hyatt, you'd want to stay until the evening sunset :) but get there early Oyster Happy Hour ends at 5pm!
Beautiful place, great service!

It was not the first time we’d been there, but this time we went for their $1 oysters! It was a shame that they couldn’t offer any bluffs that day, instead we got Te Kouma, which were still delicious! We ordered 3 dozens of those, some tua tua, cheese potato chips with truffle mayo, sourdough loaf with creamy butter, a bone marrow platter with two bottles of rose. We certainly enjoyed the food, the vibe and the view. It was a very pleasant Saturday afternoon indeed. Recommend this Place even just for their happy hour oysters!

Visited Saint Alice on a busy Saturday night and the place was buzzing with good vibes. We had a table of 6 for drinks without a reservation and the view was amazing overlooking the viaduct basin.

Our waitress was super nice, she gave us drink recommendations and assisted us with the menu.

The cocktails and drinks here are very reasonable with $10 espresso martini’s available too!!

We ordered the fries to go with our drinks, highly recommended.

Came here with some girlfriends for a catch up dinner and drinks. Saint Alice is easier to get seats than Dr Rudy. We ordered their pork crackling, truffle fries, fried chicken and steak fondue. The pork crackling was divine, flavoursome and crispy. The truffle fries had the distinct truffle flavour and smell and were fried perfectly. The fried chicken was paired with an interesting marmite sauce that actually worked. The steak wasn’t exactly what we were expecting. We were expecting a melted cheese pot for us to dip, but the steak and cheese were piled on one plate. It is quite loud in here so don’t expect to be able to do a quite conversation.

Really nice place in the area with good and quick service. It was really busy on weekend afternoon especially closing time for happy hours of $1 oyster but the service was still on top. They even had a “bag” of kid goodies, not just a paper! So it’s pretty kid-friendly place. Love the oysters - fresh, juicy and yummy. Chips were sooo crispy throughout the whole bowl but a bit too salty. Bone marrow were cooked well and really good. The mocktail was really delicious as well but a bit pricey because of the location I think. Definitely recommended and would go back again to try more food.

Finally managed to visit Saint Alice with friends. It was a busy night in the Viaduct & with their great view it’s easy to see why they’re so busy.
Service was mostly ok. We were slow to be served & the female waitress was a bit disinterested. We then flagged down a male & he was much more helpful with good menu suggestions.
I tried the wood fired steak which did have a nice smoky flavour. The potatoes were crispy with a fluffy inside. The cheese fondue (think slab of Camembert melted on the top) had a good texture, but a jus or gravy would have had more flavour. It needed seasoning too (I don’t normally add S&P) but they had that on the tables. It was ok but we agreed it was a bit boring. Had food envy with the chicken so wished in hindsight I’d chosen that.
Saint Alice is nice enough but a little like all the rest.

GREAT PLACE FOR A DRINK & A BITE TO EAT

Saint alice is a roof top restaurant/bar in the viaduct. The ambience is great during an evening sunset overlooking the harbour. So if your after a couple drinks and a bite to eat and dont care for price then its a great place.

4.0 SERVICE - As soon as we arrived we were welcomed and offered a table & options of where we wanted to be seated. Service team took our orders consistently and the food came frequently with no awkward gaps in between. They also mentioned there would be a 30 minute wait on the lamb which was a good heads up.

4.5 ATMOSPHERE - The roof top views of the viaduct harbour are epic. Sunsets are next level here and it has a great feel to it. We went on a Tuesday evening so it was quite mellow but a nice chill vibe.

3.3 FOOD - They had an interesting menu ie- with the flounder and bone marrow and the food was good but the flavours didnt pop as much as i thought they would given the prices they charge. The bluff oysters were ok but a bit small and had fragments of shells in them which took away from the taste. You might expect that in oysters but the best oysters ive had is a botswana butchery. The bone marrow was a good thought but the flavors just werent there. Flounder was good had a nice coconut twist to it. Desserts were average we had all 3 and i was disappointed with them. Lack luster would be a good description.

3.5 VALUE/PRICE - if you factor in the location “rooftop on the viaduct” then its a 3.5 for me. But you are paying for the location opposed to a foodies experience/journey. The prices are obviously hiked up to cover the overheads but it wouldnt hurt to put a bit more effort into the food. This place has the potential to be a world class restaurant but i believe its more a BAR that serves good food.

Finally managed to visit this restaurant! Ambience was really nice, with the open harbour views. We went for Oyster happy hour and also ordered the bone marrow and the tomato and cheese dish. Bone marrow was yummy, the tomato dish was nothing special. Oysters were alright too. Service was hard to get at times during the busy hours.

Ended up coming here for a friend's going away party. There was probably about 30 of us that took up about 4-5 tables but we had plenty of space and a great view! Really enjoyed the cohesive decor and how open and bright the space is. The bathrooms are pretty nice as well.

My partner and I ended up ordering the salmon tartare, meat plate and fried chicken. The tartare was so yummy, good spice and the sweetness of the fish complimented the dish well. The meat plate was okay. and the chicken with the dipping sauce was also awesome. Ended up getting a couple drinks but they were just okay, nothing memorable.

Overall, we enjoyed the experience and the time with our friend but price was a bit high for it so while it was good, probably wouldn't be back.
Lizzie
Such good vibes here for a drink on a sunny afternoon and the $1 oyster happy hour is the best deal ever! The oysters are massive, fresh and delicious! Keen to come back to try more on the menu.

Went with my wife for oysters& a drink. Great atmosphere & service. We only had oysters $ a couple drinks but it was great value for money. Professional friendly service but not at all stuffy. Special mention & shootout to Kira, loved your service, thank you
Lucy
Very disappointed with this place. The tuatua and oysters were bitter and salty. The salmon tartare had way to much cheese. The stake was nice but wasn’t expecting the ‘cheese fondue’ to be on top of the steak. The cheese tasted a bit off but I’m not a pro on cheese so that could be just a preference thing. Service was very average as well. If the waiter told us how much potatoes came with the steak, we would have ordered salad instead of more fries! Overall impression, unfresh ingredients, over-seasoned flavors. One star is for the nice view you get of the harbor.

New rooftop bar across the ways from Dr Rudis.

Was quite packed Friday night but managed to get a table in the sun on the deck.

Awesome views.

Had an IPA, a bottle of fizz, a doz of oysters and the pork scratchings.

Oysters were ok, the spicy pork scratchings with truffle mayo were delish!

Good place to hang and have Friday night drinks.
Donna&Shane
Had to come here as it’s the same owners as Dr Rudi’s... great atmosphere and of course gorgeous views.
We ordered some small plates to share realised we chose all fried food but oh well..
Crispy pork crackling-OMG
Fried chicken-very tender chicken
Fried oyster McMuffin-OMG
Then finished with a Homemade shortbread dessert
Definitely worth popping in here...

First time took my mother & sister to eat here. Love the atmosphere of the restaurant, beautiful view & quick service. Staff were very friendly. Food were so delicious. Love how they made the steak cheese & potatoes were crisp & tasty. Pork cracklings were crispy & mouth watering. The oysters were fresh & delicious. The prices for the food are good, worth it to it there.
Would come back again & recommend it to others. 👍 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

Fantastic food and amazing view. Although the portions for the large share is a bit smaller than what I had expected, the taste exceeded my expectations by a long-shot. Definitely would come again.

We had lunch at St Alice yesterday and for the most part it was superb, the food delicious, the staff attentive and the fitout really nice. The only reason I am not giving a 5* is because when I used the loo one of the kitchen staff finished and walked out and straight back into the kitchen without washing her hands - yuck! Not a good look....
