Review Meadow - Auckland Central

Delicious food and great service at Meadow. I had the Mexican egg dish which was very unique and so yum, would definitely get it again !! The French toast was a lovely sweet treat and the meadow vegetarian had all the goodness you are after. The atmosphere is lovely, we were sat next to the fireplace which was a treat on a cold winters day. Thanks meadow !

Came here with my husband as we were hungry in the morning. Ordered eggs benedict and was really surprised by the taste. I usually don't eat poached eggs, but this one was amazing! Really soft and easy to bite muffin and bacon Many thanks to Jo and Team for doing such a great service, very tasty, friendly staff, great atmosphere. Love the table near the fireplace! Hope to come here again very soon😊

We strayed out of our usual orbit and chanced on Meadow. We were impressed with the different indoor, outdoor and semi-sun spaces and options. The versatility extended to whether you wanted a drink or coffee quietly, or with friends, and whether you wanted a casual meal or "groaning table" celebration lunch or dinner. The service was that great balance of efficient and friendly, where you want for nothing but didn't feel intruded upon. At somewhere new, my question is "Can they do the basics well?". The Meadow kitchen got a resounding yes from us. In summary, would we go back? Absolutely.

Food was okay but the price is very expensive. I had to pay $27.50 for this dish.

Celebrated my birthday here with friends. It was lovely, food and service was great. Will come back here again. I regularly grab coffee too 👍

Stopped by for brunch and was quite lucky to get a table. Most of the tables were booked out and walk ins were asked to wait. The staff were friendly and didn't have to wait too long to order or get food. The menu was different from the last time I was there which was a nice change. The menu items were quite varied and there was a decent selection. The menu has breakfast/brunch items and the lunch items, both separated by the time they are served. I tried the spinach gnocchi with cashew pesto on the lunch section and it was nice. The gnocchi wasn't too stodgy and it had nice flavour. Nice place to stop by for food or drinks.

Came here with my wife as we were hungry in the morning. Very tasty, friendly staff, clean dining area and great service. Ordered bacon and eggs with mushrooms on side, delicious! Also we did try truffle fries with grated parmesan, surprisingly tasty! Many thanks to Jo & Team for bringing high quality service! Definitely we will regularly dine here! Also yes tables near fireplace is perfect in winter)) Thank you very much!

Great food and great service. Advised to call ahead and book, this place and to get quite busy. Parking is quite difficult, but if you don't get one outside there are plenty of side streets to try. Great coffee and food is presented well

Popped in here with my daughter for lunch recently. She was working so it had to be a quick bite. They were very accommodating despite being busy. My Maroccan bun was attractively presented and tasty. I'd like to return for a more leisurely meal. Great to see the owner acknowledge any poor reviews and offer to discuss with the patrons.

Great food and friendly staff, slow cooked lamb is highly recommended. A well deserved 5/5 stars.

I couldn’t decide on what to have so ended up having what was recommended to us and it was divine! Beside that the fries were amazing and I definitely would go back just for that. Staff are friendly and great service. Anyone visiting Auckland needs to check this place out - I know I’ll be back.

Easy to make bookings online which are recommended esp for weekends when it’s really busy. Very good table service and she even double checked that we weren’t parked in the 30 mins zone! I ordered the Caesar salad sans chicken which I wasn’t sure on value for money however the pulled lamb pizza was worth every delicious dollar.

Saturday brunch was quite superb indeed and with a lovely outdoor seating area sheltered from the rain. From a food perspective, the meadow beef burger, eggs bene, chicken mushroom linguini, and date pudding were all excellent. One of a kind burger with chili powder and super juicy. Would recommend reservations and I don't think you can sit at the bar to eat, but idk. Prices are high but taste and atmosphere makes it pretty worth it. Theyve also got gluten and dairy free options.

Came in for my 21st birthday breakfast with my friends. Saw online photos of the courtyard and really wanted to visit. The pizzas were really nice and thin crusted. Butter chicken on the pizza was nice and tender. The pumpkin risotto my friend got was apparently undercooked but the manager was really nice and returned it to the kitchen and swapped it out for smoothies and pizza. Overall, it was a great place to meet up with my friends and celebrate.
Flippynz
Beautiful little venue. The courtyard is well protected from the road and is quite nice. The out door fire would be a treat

The garlic and parmesan bread was superb. A nice filler for a single main.

For my main i got the chicken parmigiana. A really well balanced dish and a decent portion.

Alright beer and wine list. Decent cocktail list. Will be back

Late lunch on a Sunday, was quite in the backyard area, pet friendly and cosy, we enjoyed our meals and drinks. Staff are nice and attentive.

Was in a larger group for a birthday so probably annoying for the few other patrons, but staff were wonderful & wrangled us into the bar after our fabulous meal so we were less intrusive for the other diners.
Food was excellent for all dishes served. Bill had to be divided between a number of people & they handled this politely without any issues.
Will definitely be back even ‘tho it’s out of the way from our normal stomping ground.

This is my go to cafe. I live quite close and whenever I want to treat myself and go out for brekkie, brunch, lunch or just a coffee, I’ll head here. I have also had dinner here too. The staff are all lovely, I have probably tried most things on the menu and always enjoy it but I love the chips, and always ordere them as a side
SpoonMe
id give it a 3.5 if I could
Cool ambiance and really friendly staff!
The food was good but could be better. The lamb was tender and feel apart effortlessly but it was a bit salty and oily for my liking and apparently the salad my friend had was also super salty and too much dressing. She only finished half...
If the food was better I’d definitely come back.
Coffee was a let down. Felt like as long as you serve in huge mugs people would be happy...
Ida Tang
The coffee was really nice and I enjoyed my meal. I used to love their French toast but I don’t see it on their menu anymore. What a shame.

Welcoming staff, lovely open airy feel in the courtyard, busy friendly vibe. I had the sirloin steak and my dining partner had the fish. Our meals were lovely. Would recommend.
Shannon Roberts
A really lovely summer outdoorsy space and lovely staff who remember us and tolerate our baby and children! A great children's menu - our children love the pizza in particular. (Thgh in general I would say it is a more 'adult' space)
Sarah Katherine
Setting, setting, setting! I absolutely adore the layout and interior at Meadow. It’s shady and cool for hot summer evenings, but with the help of a few heaters becomes cozy and intimate during the winter. To be perfectly honest the food is not quite at the price level they pitch it at, however the overall experience seems to make up for it. Friendly, bubbly wait staff and the vibe of an all day local hang out are worth a lot.
Angel
Met here for lunch in a group of 12. We were on a strict timetable and needed lunch in a rush. The staff at meadow were fantastic, the service exceptional and the food was delicious.
Andrean
To be honest, I wasn't very excited when a colleague of mine bring me for lunch.
I thought it's going to be another typical "bar / cafe" food.
But, I was wrong. This is not like your ordinary bar / cafe. The foods are good! And the service is excellent.
I will definitely come back.

A group of us went here for friends birthday last night and the service was great! Friendly, accommodating and easy going. It was exactly what you would want when dining out in a group. The vibe to the place was very relaxed and I liked the modern interior and outdoor areas. The place doesn’t look like too much from the outside but it really is a hidden gem.

The catch of the day - salmon was ordered by several in our group and it was a good and filling dish. My partner ordered the halloumi salad which he really enjoyed. It was tasty and had a generous portion of halloumi. If you like a good burger I’d recommend the chicken and avocado burger. A little hard to eat but the brioche bun and combination of fillings was great. Only suggestion I could make with this burger is a pot of aioli or tomato sauce.

Keen to come back and try out more dishes from here! Keep up the good work guys.
Sophie Wilton
I’m so in love with this place - the menu was awesome and varied, smoothies were 10/10, there was a relaxed vibe and the staff were helpful and friendly! The avocado toast was super filling and hefty and definitely worth ordering, as was the pizza; your standard and delicious Margherita.

Love this place every time I go. It meets so many needs. There's an outdoor space with a little marquee if you're looking for a summer lunch with family. There's a covered outdoor space so you can appreciate a nice day whilst staying warm and dry with an outdoor fireplace. Then there's the indoor bar area if you're just catching up for drinks! I always enjoy the meals here, particularly the French Toast, Granola (probably my favorite in Auckland), or the Halloumi Salad. I haven't had the Pork Shoulder Burger myself, but friends who have had it have always raved about it. Service is always spot-on, as is the coffee! They're also pretty accommodating if you're Gluten-Free and will change stuff on the menu if they can.
Yeahggggg
This place always make me wonder why it has such good reputations among the locals. I live close to this place, but barely go there because they always disappoint me. Food is below average and the drinks as well. The ambience and service are good tho.
Gus
Meadow is apparently quite popular because my friend had to book in advance. The restaurant is nicely fitted out, we sat in the conservatory. The food was very nice, the fried chicken entree was a little spicy and delicious, my pork belly main was soft and the skin was tender to cut but could have been crisped more. The truffle chips were very yummy! Smart suburban dining in relaxed airy surroundings
ILoveToEat
Delicious food with lots of options to suit even the fussiest eaters. The staff are very friendly and accomodating, great service and food comes out quick. The outside area is beautiful and well set up, perfect for a summer feast!
Emma Smith
The bagel and smoothie I had was really nice. The decor was really cool, I especially liked how the cups you get for water is like a jar. One thing though I was really disappointed about the fries because my mum said they were good but they weren’t. Still recommend going there for breakfast.

It’s quite a popular spot, so it might be a good idea to make reservations before coming.

We tried their chorizo pizza ($16/$24), Huevos Sucios ($22) and sticky date dessert ($14).

Food was very delicious and the dessert was nice (although the portion size is a little small for the price)

Overall a great experience, and a very pretty place!
Lily.T
Good service, the staff are very kind.
The food is tasty, the menu has changed quite a bit over the years and I think they have found the right one.
It has a classy, clean decor. However be careful not to be seated near the fire as it can get way too hot.
John Done
Coffee is all over the place most times it’s boiling far to hot to drink. The place is so cold we struggled with very small portion size they hand out blankets
Lizzie
Love this place, the conservatory is beautiful and super cosy even in the winter with the fire going. The service was so fast and the food delicious! We shared the prosciutto pizza and truffle Parmesan fries with the broccolini which was the perfect amount for 2 girls topped off with a glass of rose!

Excellent coffee and food, great ambience and fast and friendly service. Shout out to the barista of this cafe as the coffee was really good. We had chai latte, flat white, Wild Mushrooms on toasted grain and Huevos Sucios. The food was well-seasoned and the mushrooms were delicious. Will definitely come back again.

Absolutely Devine, would reccomend anything off the menu and the waitress Samantha had some dope as yarns give her a bell for a quality chat about the menu or life whatever u feel she doesn't mind.

Have been here in the past and the food has always blown me away however have found the standard has really dropped. The Lamb Salad was so basic – a few lamb pieces with no flavour tossed in mesculun with red onion and tomato (feta was missed off) The dressing on the Caeaser was so watery. The only saving grace was the friendly service.
Sarah Wilson
Amazing staff, amazing food. Need I say more, yes because I have to hit 140 characters ;) always the best place and not overly expensive for such an amazing meal. Highly recommend. Relaxed atmosphere.

Came here for my friend’s birthday dinner. There was quite a lot of us (about 20 people) so they gave us one of their outdoor marquee areas. Service was friendly and professional, and a decent range of food and drink was on offer.

To start, I had an elderberry lemonade. This was fairly bland; it felt like there was more of a cucumber taste than lemon so it was almost a palate cleanser rather than an actual drink.

For my main, I had the Paella. Thankfully, it wasn't too salty and the portion was deceptively big. However, there wasn’t that much meat and I don’t remember there being any seafood – so that was a little disappointing.

Taking a look around our table, I noticed that a lot of my friends ordered the lamb shank – where the portion size was also quite generous.

To share, the fries came with aioli and tomato sauce, and they were sprinkled with parmesan cheese that didn't melt.

Overall, I had a good time at Meadow but wasn’t blown away by the food. However, it seems like the type of place that would be fun to go to for brunch so I’d be happy to come back for another visit.

Love the decor, staff very friendly. Restaurant dining area is an open space, they were busy but it was not noisy. We had 2 pizzas, only managed half, took the rest home. Good wine and beer list. Recommend!!

Brunch time -
Food 2/5 - Ordered a coffee, Meadow Burger with chips and Gnocchi. Coffee was just excellent, would love to know what beans they use. Burger was good, freshly made with cucumber pickle on top. I shouldn't have expected much more than a standard burger I guess. Gnocchi was very greasy, not the best flavoured dish we had. Wouldn't order again

Ambience 4/5- Lovely atmosphere to kick back relax if you are hung over 😂 and good music of course. Nice seating options to pick from.

Service 5/5 - Well mannered and approachable staff, great service.

Dear Gluten Free / Celiac Disease Peoples
I would not recommend this restaurant. Yes they do offer gluten free options however they are not aware of their practices and cross-contamination. Which unfortunately I found out they hard way yesterday. However for everyone else the food is delicious.
Bai.Yuanshan.90
I always leave with a feeling that they a rude and unaccomodating to important dietary requirements. And i mean the owners.. the air of arrogance is palpable
FoodMakesMeHappy
Been here few times now and this is one of my fav restaurant! Love all, each and every one of their dishes! Their fries, burgers (both beef and pork pulled), pizza (leek is a must), paella and gnocchi are so so good! I personally think that this restaurant is the only place that does gnocchi properly. So fluffy and delicious! Was there last night want to go back again tonight :)

Poached chicken coconut salad and salmon bagel. Salad was yummmmo!

Good coffee, nice outdoor area in warmer weather. Friendly attentive staff. Will be back!

When you think you almost miss it, it just right by your hand. Yes, Meadow is quite a trick that needs you to seek by heart. However, if you are foodie-oriented, you won't lose it. By the way, three layers of jags and glasses are layed out in such a delicate way, which, of course, a good sign for a decent restaurant&bar.

Hidden on St. John street, Meadow starts with a good location. According to my vision, all the customers coming here, either for drink, lunch, snacks or dinner, are dressed up properly:) It must be a favor for the neighborhood. Hmm, honestly, I would not mind living here due to Meadow.

If you come around 4:30pm, in the afternoon, you would probably prefer a drink to start. From beer to wine, the drink menu is quite a selection. Sometimes, you just feel confused what to order, then the house beer or wine is right there waiting for you. Well, don't miss the shoetie fries to pair your beer.

While waiting, the east meets west style is quite a eye-delight. Color, vases, lamps, cabinets, designed chairs and other details all show out that Meadow's orientation. Business men in ties are standing by the bar with a glass of wine on hand, grandpa shares a dessert with little boy by the corner. Then there is you, getting a bit refreshed after a sip of Chardonnay from Moana Park Winery in Gisborne.

Then comes the appetite for dinner. The market fish that night was snapper, which was nicely fried and came out with potato, kale, olive and herb dressing. We both enjoyed the crispy skin outside and the tender texture inside. Chef here looked young and they knew how to control the temperature for fish. And the herb dressing added quite a flavor into the whole experience. We couldn't help but eating it up!

The piazza called Ocean, comparing to the fish, was less delightful. Shrimp, zucchini and tomato base seemed a bit lonely for ocean! Luckily, the dessert- Coconut cheesecake, pineapple icing and mango ice cream made it up for the loss. Finally, the tropical flavor came up and arose our travel memory in Malaysia. Must be nice to enjoy this sweet treat by the beach in a gentle breeze.

You see family having a birthday party here, you will notice lovers sharing dessert and romance here, and you also find yourself in peace and ease even just for a drink. You just wish summer coming back soon, then you can sit outside, having a light brunch in the sunshine.

Had the French toast with extra bacon added, awesome combo. Don't usually get French toast when I'm out but this was surprisingly very good, along with the mocha I had, good brew of a coffee cup for a nice Sunday afternoon. Lots of option to chose from. My friend had a chicken Cesar salad which was also very good. Overall good food and coffee, will go to try the dinner change over menu for sure. Thumbs up for quick and friendly service đŸ‘ŒđŸ»

Great set up. Modern and clean cut decor. Really enjoyed our meal.

Food was presented nicely and the flavours were exciting. Dining space was spacious and clean.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Sunday brunch at Meadow is a must! I love their couscous chicken- the portion of it is huge and wholesome. Their smashed avocado is good too! The only downside to this place is that their waiters ( their female ones in particular) are quite grumpy and not really welcoming. I have been there numerous times and have found them to be very rude- then again I do go on Sundays and who really wants to work on a Sunday !

Meadow Restaurant is located in Meadowbank, and I fall in love with it again and again each time I visit. It’s the perfect place for sophisticated dining while still being tranquil and relaxing. The design remains one of my favourite restaurants to date- the navy blue hues with white furniture, offset with green hedges gives off a rather hamptons style feel. You’re immediately greeted by the fine looking bar and casually elegant dining room that has obviously hosted many trendy social gatherings.

Always a good time at Meadow, love the alfresco dining. The grilled octopus was so tasty and the anchovy crumble on top so good. We had the chorizo, salami pizza, fries and finished with a blue cheese board. Delicious food, great winelist and friendly staff.

I had a really lovely lunch at meadow yesterday. My poached coconut chicken salad was delicious - subtle flavours, refreshing, creamy but well balanced with the crisp cucumber. My dining companions ordered the gazpacho - refreshing and flavourful, leaving just a slight tingle on the lips - and the lamb sausage, black pudding and fried egg on potato chunks - which was warm and filling and very tasty. For dessert we shared the crostini, blue cheese, dark chocolate and blistered peach platter - perfect to share between 2 to 3 people, and just right to finish off the meal. My friends particularly liked the rather large serving of blue cheese! Overall, the portion sizes were just right. I ordered and chai latte at the end which I would have liked much hotter than it was, however this was the only fault I could find! The covered section of the courtyard was lovely to sit in, as there was plenty of light but it wasn't too hot. Service was friendly and staff were very attentive, my water glass was refilled many times which isn't a problem for me. The brunch menu looks yummy, so I might be back again to try that soon!

Consistently very very good. A cool and bordering swanky place for a breakfast with someone you want to impress. Heck, I even like the toilets!

Finally made it to Meadow. Have been for a drink but first time for dinner. The menu had just changed (so the one pictured above is out of date). We had the gnocchi with goats cheese - was divine. Also the chicken with cous cous and dukkah.. so tasty. We also shared truffle fries and chicken tulips with hot sauce. My only criticism with the whole meal was the hot sauce wasn't hot. We waited a good half hour for food while others who ordered after us had their food quite soon after. Just an observation. Was all delicious and service was great. Will be back as the desserts looked amazing.

Another one of those annoying spots where you just have to wait for the goods!
The first time round we all ended up ordering things we werent sure about but the Chicken salad is one of the nicest chicken salads ive paid money for. The waffles portion and the pork burger are also bomb.
The staff are all very busy but still attentive and friendly.
Not much one can fault other than the hassle of parking! :D

We wanted a quiet drink on a Sunday evening and decided to check out Meadow! The bar area was cosy and tastefully appointed. Interesting light fixtures.

There was a good wine selection and we sampled the Cheese Board to accompany it. Sparkling water was a nice touch. The waiter was friendly and we soon felt relaxed.

We ordered a Mature Brie Cheese but a Creamy Blue appeared on the table. It was delicious - especially spread on the light and crispy ciabatta toast with fruit chutney.

However, the waiter was not happy that we had been given the wrong Cheese and brought out a plate with a generous slice of the Brie with more crackers. That is what I call good service!

The menu for the meals looked enticing so we will be back. The courtyard area would be a nice setting for a summertime brunch.

Great food, beautifully presented! Love the Mediterranean take on the menu, good wine selection and fantastic ambiance. The atrium is cozy, warmed with the giant fireplace and cool chandeliers. Will definitely go again!

Heard great things so thought I'd pay a visit
Came from shore so was quite a drive!
Their seating is mostly outdoors which was decorated beautifully yet minimal
The waitress was very friendly and explained the menu to us but the man with the glasses not wearing the uniform (manager?) was very cold and unwelcoming.
Granola was good but I've had better so unlike to order again
Pulled pork burger however was delicious! Good coffee as well
Next time I will try the baked eggs or something else from the breakfast menu!
Wish they had indoor seating as well but overall quite pleased
Lucy Fitzgerald
Lovely cafe, great service, the food is good I had the waffles which were so nice and the coffee was great. The decor is pleasant although where we were sitting it was a tad cold and it was quite expensive for the amount of food served on the plate but it was still good and I look forward to visiting for dinner.

Went to Meadow on Sunday morning for brunch with a group of 5 others. I called to book a table for 11am and upon calling was told we had to be out by 1230 which was fine. Then upon arriving was told again we needed to be out by 1230 and we were reminded at least another 3 times throughout our meal. Way to make us feel unwelcome. Even under time pressure we didn't get service and had to ask if we could order. One friend having an onion allergy asked if the avocado smash had any onions and was very rudely told by the bolshy waitress that "it is exactly what it says on the menu so no" as if she were stupid for asking. Funnily enough another person on the table had a nut allergy and asked the same question about the same dish and was told yes it was covered in almonds and there were almonds throughout. It didn't say almonds on the menu... She didn't try and offer any alternative just bluntly said it. We waited ages for the drinks and when they finally came out the coffees were weak and cold. The food came out and the waitress had ordered one of the meals wrong and had to take it back. It took another 10 minutes for it to come back so the waitress apologized and said that my friend's hot chocolate would be on the house (which they then tried to charge her for). The food itself was quite nice but the service was awful. Our waitress was rude to the other staff, when we went up to pay a new staff member asked her for help with the payment and she snapped at him that she was on her break and stormed off in the other direction. One can only hope she was having a bad day because she's certainly put us off returning!

Finally had the chance to check out this cute little place in Meadowbank and I'm glad I did! Be prepared to wait for a table if you come on a Friday or a Saturday but any other day seems just fine â˜ș. The decor is cute as a button and the staff were lovely. There's plenty of food for everyone on the menu and even a full dessert menu (available all day 😏). Everything we tried was delicious but I will admit it is a tad overpriced for the amount you get on a plate but in saying that the food quality was great đŸ‘đŸ»âœš

I always enjoy eating at meadow. Wonderful staff bar one waiter who needs to learn some manners and not be so up himself.

I suggest eating either one of their burgers they offer, perfect hangover remedy and very filling.

My husband and I also come here for breakfast as their huevos sucios are to die for!!!

I have tried a few things on both their breakfast menu and dinner menu and I'd have to say I haven't had any disappointment yet.

You must go a try, atmosphere is lovely, is a bit crammed but I'd rather sit closely to someone and enjoy my meal than not enjoy my meal and have all the room in the world
Benedict Uy
From the street if doesn't look that big but when you enter you see how far back it actually goes. Although big, it is generally quite busy and waiting should be expected.

Stopped by for brunch and was not disappointed with the food. The hot chocolate tasted like chocolate and had plenty of marshmallows. I went with the Full Meadow Breakfast and it was all tasty, from the crispy potatoes to the succulent sausage. We also had the beef cheek pizza and that went down well.

They have a few tables inside the place beside the bar, the majority of the tables are either covered or out doors. Nice place for summer but might get a bit cold or wet during winter. Also noticed that it became less busy during lunch time (around 12.30pm), so might be a place where people stop by for their morning coffee.

Good service even though the place was full and tasty food so definitely a nice place to return to.
Diogo Reck
What a great place! Cool and contemporary atmosphere, great service and clever menu.

Where else could you find wagyu Burger? Mine was delicious, although I think the cheese could've been more melted, and the presentation could value the star of the dish, these amazing meat.

They also got some points by serving some refreshing sparkling water.
Stephy_NakiGirl
I'd heard how good Meadow was from friends so when the opportunity arose I stopped off for brunch. It's tucked away somewhat in the old Meadowbank shops so easy to drive past & miss it if you don't know where it is. That does add to its charm though as when inside you are away from busy St Johns Rd - nice & peaceful.
They have an inside area with 2 long tables next to the bar/kitchen & an outside courtyard. Definitely an idea to book to guarantee a seat as it is very busy with regulars at most times.
Service was really good - the lady that served me may have been the manager (?) but she was so genuinely friendly & engaging. They ask for your name (instead of a table number), and rather than just write it down, she used it to make conversation & also as a more personalised farewell - a very nice touch!
The menu is simple in that there aren't too many options, but each option has something special or different about it to really highlight the good produce they use. They're happy to adjust the menu if required.
I decided to try the smashed avocado today which came with feta, a really juicy slice of lemon & a large chunk of toast. It was delicious - well seasoned with the avocado the star of the dish (i.e. not adding heaps of ingredients to it like at some cafes). Chunks of avocado as well as mashed pieces.
The only suggestion I'd make when ordering this is to add a side as the dish benefits from another texture or flavour - a side of harmony bacon was perfect. Well cooked - nice & caramelised without being overdone. They have a range of good sides to choose from if bacon isn't your thing - the mushrooms & potatoes are also really good.
Coffee was nice - stronger than I've had elsewhere but not quite in need of sugar. More just the blend they use. They serve sparkling water to the table too which is nice & refreshing.
Looking forward to my next visit - I can see why this cafe is such a hit with the locals.

Meadow is a great restaurant on the east side of Auckland. The atmosphere here was really good, as was the service - can definitely see why it's a regular hangout for the locals. The air flow could have made the experience a bit more pleasant on a 28 degree summer afternoon, though the temperature is a bit out of their control.
Unfortunately, the pulled pork burger and pizza were off the menu - which was a bit disappointing as we did want to try the burger.

Despite this, we ordered the beef burger and the Tira-milo which were both really delicious. We also recommend trying out the smoothies which were obviously made from fresh ingredients and went down great on such a hot day.

If we find ourselves out this way again, we'll be sure to pop in again for burgers.
Bronwyn Koh
Cute garden style cafe, good service, good food and coffee!
Ordered the Fish, Turkish eggs for brunch and Tira-milo for dessert - all hits no misses.
The eggs were creamy melt in your mouth and the Fish - text book.
Love the ambience and simple decor - will definitely be visiting again!

We've been to meadow many times for breakfast - usually it's good however the service seems to be going downhill and today was absolutley atrocious.
The food and drinks are fine.
However waiting for a mocha for 45 mins (after asking about it three times) and seeing coffees come out for other tables who were seated after us is ompletely unacceptable
The waitress we had was absolutley hopeless, we had to get up from the table to get our own water after 30 mins she was that unattentive.
We may potentially come back - but when we don't have anything else to do that day so we have time to wait.

Had a great evening with a group of 6 friends. Friendly waitress with a good sense of humour. Simple bistro menu (and the ubiquitous burger of course) that won't break the bank. Shared the charcuterie board, and then had the fish - all delicious, ended up being a bit much for me to finish. Only quibble was it was a very muggy evening and the staff were unable to open the roller blinds that would have allowed ventilation. Great to have a nice local............

This place is really nice, delicious food and friendly staff. The waffles and lamb sandwich were both amazing. The lamb was cooked so well. Definitely be going back!

Meadow is amazing, the decor and food is stunning.
Staff are well trained, friendly and add to your dining experience.
Highly recommend dinner or lunch here as it certainly a new favorite for me

Meadow, is a cafe in Meadowbank which serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal here and would defiantly recommend to a friend. It is reasonably priced, good service and great food! Definite must !

Unexpected dinner out tonight at Meadow. Got a table immediately, even though they were busy. Service was prompt and friendly. I had the wagyu beef burger and chips. The patti was thick and juicy, the bun was slightly toasted. Really delicious burger, it needed a tangy sauce to take it to the next level. Mum had the pulled pork burger which came with avocado and asian slaw. The slaw gave the burger great texture and the french fries were more-ish! Dad had a chorizo, roasted pepper and chilli pizza. The base seemed to be of high quality and was crispy. The chorizo was spicy and filled with flavour. Not a single piece was left, so it must have been good! We shared a salad of cauliflower, pomegranate, mint, spring peas and almonds. It was divine! I absolutely loved it. Meadow is a fantastic example of a local restaurant with a smaller menu, but a well exuected menu. I can't wait to go back.

After reading all the good reviews for Meadow. I finally decided to give this place a go. It was a busy saturday afternoon and i believe there was also a private function going on. I came expected to wait for a couple minutes for a seat but was lucky enough to get one straight away.
The head waiter was really friendly. I got the Huevos sucious and my boyfie got the beef burger and fries. Coffee was yummy and came super fast.
The Huevos was aaaammaazzzing. Potatoes was so crispy and seasoned really well. That dish was perfect! The boyfriend also enjoyed his beef burger, it was good that they toasted the buns! The only down side was there was a bug at the bottom Of the fries. We only noticed it until we nearly finished it. Apart from that everything was perfect. Atmosphere was good and service is on top.

After hearing about how amazing this place was, I was super excited to try it out however I am sadly disappointed. To be honest i think the best thing their i had was the juice.

I ordered the Sun sweetness juice which was amazing, i loved the citrus juice which had a balance of sweet and sour.

I ordered the Angus flank steak which tasted bland and quite frankly strange. I struggled to finish it. The steak did not have much flavour and with the other sauces around it, it just wasn't helping.
The others ordered Huevos sucios which was nice but it didn't have anything too special about it and for the price it was not worth it. Smoked chicken salad was average and you can definitely get better salads else where.

Maybe I think it was what I ordered that just didn't made the experience not enjoyable but it looks like the burgers they have are good so i might have to come back to see if the restaurant can redeem itself.

Great place for a Sunday brunch, especially if you're in the mood for a cheeky bevvy with brekkie. Funky vibes and a look that is really quite different in a good way. I had the mushrooms on toast which were spectacular. Truffle oil and Parmesan on my bacon really was a decadent way to start the day and I can't imagine it being done any better. Complement that with warm friendly service and sparkling water on tap and I'm a very happy chappy. Thanks for a top class brunch experience. I'll be back again.

Went to Meadow last night for dinner with my girlfriends family and this place was excellent. The service was very quick and precise, we didn't have to wait long in between entree and mains and the setting is amazing also. The food was spectacular with all of us getting a whole lot of different dishes to get them out at the same time still hot and as tasty as they did has to be commended. Highly recommend anyone to head along here! âœŒđŸŒïž

Meadow is absolutely stunning. It's bright whites and blues are refreshing, modern and seriously enjoyable to dine in. Very classy yet cosy atmosphere. The service was attentive but towards the end, we were definitely given hints to head off; guess that comes with dining in somewhere so popular though.

Although being a Thursday afternoon, it was no doubt very popular. We were seated and served sparkling water in no time. I ended up grabbing the pulled pork burger w fries ($21) and a soy latte ($5) whilst my friend had the lamb burger ($16). My burger delicious, the pork, very tender and a decent amount of sauce. On the other hand, coffee was lukewarm but strong enough. :-)

Definitely an enjoyable meal. Highly recommended :-)

I've been to Meadow 4 times now, so I'm
pretty confident in saying that it's definitely worth a visit! Each time I've been the restaurant has been presented beautifully, it's also really bright due to the indoor/outdoor seating area so it's worth bringing sunglasses.

Food has been consistently good each time I've been, not to mention a fairly short waiting time despite the popularity. Previously I've tried granola and Turkish eggs from the breakfast menu and pancetta pizza from the lunch menu - all these very good! Today I had the lamb sandwich and my friend the pork burger... Both amazing and by far my favourite meal I've tried off the menu so far!

Probably the only downside is that you can feel a bit rushed by staff once you have finished eating, but due to high demand for seating it is understandable.

My good friend sandra loves this place and wanted to bring me here for a littke treat after the movies! I would never know about this place as its one of those places you could easily walk past! Its such a cute little place and im glad she suggested to go! I really like the style and the staff were really lovely too which is a bonus! We got seated in the conservatory style area and it was pretty hot as the sun was shining right above us! There were cute little plant pots around us and the smell of the food and flowers were good! Our waitress was really nice and attentive aswell. We both ordered the pork burgers and sandra had a coffee and i had a tea. Sandras coffee came really quick and i was patiently waiting for my tea. Time kept ticking and still no tea. I gave it a few more minutes then asked where it was and the bar had forgotten to make it but the waitress was very apologetic. Wasnt really a biggy. The burgers came and looked really yum! The chips were thin and coated in something that tasted delicious! I loved all the flavours of my burger but unfortunately sandra didnt enjoy hers which was a shame. All the sauces and stuff had made her burger abit soggy but i wolfed mine down so didnt have a problem! I will come to meadow again and i really want to go for breakfast or lunch as the breakfasts they do are supposed to be really good!

The worst pizza have eaten, was like a stone in my stomach. I ve been just one time the service was ok but if you are food lovers don't go there to eat pizza!!

Came here for the first time for a late breakfast this weekend. The outdoor set up and décor is beautifully done, a little hidden treasure off the main road. Our food was amazing. The Turkish eggs were too good and so nice to see something different instead of your typical breakfast menu. The staff were very attentive, highly recommend this place.

Meadow has a stunning outdoor courtyard, with blue and white modern decor. and a large garden fireplace adding to the inviting and elegant atmosphere.

Although a little on the pricey side, there is quite a variety of food options, from breakfast to lunch, to a range of burgers and pizzas- not to mention the selections of Bloody Mary's to kick start your day. Relatively busy today but seated straight away, despite being Sunday brunch prime time.

I ordered the 64 eggs and soldiers, which are eggs that have been slow-cooked for 64 hours to create a kind of soft, poached texture. Comes with yoghurt, dukkha, Turkish pide bread and pomegranate seeds. An extremely tasty dish, I especially enjoyed the subtle sweetness and texture of the pomegranate seeds. Had the berry smoothie to accompany, which was slightly watery and underwhelming, however a friend had the nutty coconut smoothie which was absolutely delicious! My friend ordered the bacon and eggs which came in a burger type form and which she claims was also quite tasty.

Overall, a slightly over-priced but chic and elegant cafe, with lots of tasty and interesting food choices.

Came here for the first time and my meal wasn't as good as I expected it to be. I had the pulled lamb sandwich. The pulled lamb was delicious although I found the harrisa mayo very over powering and unnecessary. This restaurant is beautifully laid out and all the food looks amazing on the plate. Pricing pretty decent and staff are nice. I am keen to come back and try more as many of the dishes on the menu definitely look worth trying!

Came here at around 5pm hoping to get eggs benedict, understandably brunch finished at 3pm so we got the night menu. The fried chicken was decent though I have had better but I did enjoy my sirloin. Cozy spot, seems good for families.

Brunch was sensational! You must try the Eggs Benedict with free range bacon :) Great service and seriously good food in a lovely cosy spot. We will definitely be back!

Came here on a busy Thursday evening... Had attempted to come for brunch a few weeks ago but there was a long queue so thought it might be good! Really cool vibe inside, good bar, and the outside area looks incredible - look forward to sitting out there in summer. We had good service all the way through and were sat by the roaring fire so very happy! Had the fish which was snapper with crispy skin and broccoli. Delicious, beat fish I've had in a very long time! Friend had the pulled beef cheek pizza which was a little spicy and he devoured the lot. Side of good chips. All pretty decent but fish was certainly the highlight.

My partner and I had a wonderful experience when we visited Meadow it was our first time there. Staff were extremely attentive and the service was wonderful. I had the smashed avocado with extra bacon and it was Devine! My partner had the beef burger and enjoyed it immensely. On a whole our experience was wonderful and we will be back for sure!

I had been looking forward to visiting this establishment for some reason but I will never go back. We walked in tonight for a quiet drink and sat at a table to watch the All Black test vs Australia. there were few loud drunks there but no bother as we were all watching the test. At half time the place cleared out a bit but we sat there enjoying the rugby and our one drink each. Halfway through the secound half we were approached by staff and told we had to leave as they closed half an hour ago. At no time did they tell us we wouldn't be allowed to watch the end of the match and were quite happy to take our money for drinks but not give us enough time to get to a more professional establishment to watch the end of the match. Shame on you Meadow, we wont be back and we will dissuade as many people as we can not to visit your establishment.
Rebecca MacDonald
I had heard lots about this new place in Meadowbank. Tucked away just next to the main corner and across from the mall. There is a covered courtyard and inside bar. I tried the salted caramel and apple soda and smashed avocado with feta, bacon and multigrain toast the perfect late breakfast!

Got to say, and I am actually a little sorry to say it.
We wont come back to meadow again, and we say this after being semi regular since they opened the doors in the middle of last year.
I say this for reasons that happened over our last 2 visits.
The first visit was meant to be a weekend brunch lazy lunch....
Well the weather was bad and our table was wet, and we were told tough luck, thats how it can go here with the elements. that was the tone for the service on this visit, which goes against the usually warm service standards we know.

Second was our monthly dinner, we would usually go on either a wednesday or thursday evening with our friends who also are local.
We were interested to see a new dinner menu which we felt was a change in tact for meadow, but were told this is due to a new chef arrivng.
In summary we didn't enjoy the meal on balance, a dough like waffle with chilli and onion was something we could make at home, and the meats on our mains were not really up to muster, pork that was bright pink? I mean really?
And lamb that was tough.
We had been treated to a year of happy local dining, and now I fear we must cast our net wider to find our new local treat.
Sorry meadows

I regularly dine at meadow (I once went for breakfast, lunch and dinner in one day) and it's always really good. The staff are great and always friendly and it's got even better since the addition of extra heaters and plastic surrounds to keep the heat in the outside area. I love the idea of the build your own breakfast and the wagyu beef burger it's a favourite of mine. I also love it because they have allpress coffee! Would recommend to anyone passing through the area !
Karyn Little
Very disappointed! We ordered the eggs Benedict, build your own meal plate and the Caesar salad. Caesar salad...? Really...? I don't think a giant head of lettuce (INCLUDING THE CENTRE!) DRENCHED in dressing, with only one piece of bacon and one piece of tiny stale bread IS NOT A CAESAR SALAD! All meals came with stale bread GROSS! Waaaaay to much avocado and the hollandaise sauce looked like it came from a packet. Sort your food out please! Nice drinks though :)
Claire
We have been to Meadow for brekkie two weekends in a row and had the poached eggs on sourdough and big brekkie both times. The food is outstanding and you can tell that fresh quality ingredients have been used. Friendly and quick service. Buzzing atmosphere but yet quiet enough to chill and read the paper.

Poached eggs on sourdough was very good and a very good environment for a catch up with friends they make very good coffee too. Highly recommend for brunch or lunch

A beautiful day starts with a beautiful mindset and! A great breakfast😋. If you wanna get omega 3 fatty acids for a healthy diet, order the Eggs Benedict with salmon! It was so tasty and fresh. First-time visit - can't wait to return, great ambience & delicious food.

Meadowbank has needed a modern cafĂ© for a long time. When I heard that Meadow opened I really wanted to go and try it and I’m glad I did. Meadow is a light and airy cafĂ© with a lively atmosphere and incredible food. I love sitting outside on a warm sunny day.
We have visited for Sunday brunch several times. The first time I went I ordered a Green Jeans juice ($7.50) which had kale, celery, apple, parsley and lemon. It super refreshing and delicious. For the meal I ordered the smashed avocado on gluten free toast ($13.50) with a side of salmon ($6) and two poached eggs ($5). I was so impressed by the food – it was all so fresh and probably the best side of salmon that I have had in Auckland. My partner ordered poached eggs on five grain toast with broccoli pesto ($9.50) and a side of smashed avocado ($4).

The service was really friendly and they remember us every time that we come for brunch which is really nice. I would love to try their dinner menu so I’m sure I’ll be back again soon.

Service: 5
Food: 4.5
Value for money: 4
Atmosphere: 4

Great food and nice environment . It make a difference of where we used to go around the area. We drop by for brunch today and it's lovely. The staff is so helpful which he offer to help me with my baby pram.

My new favourite place for a great range of amazing vegetarian options. Pizza and the eggplant fritter top the list of the menu! I would totally recommend!
The Hungry Hedonist
My local and absolute favourite. The food is consistently great (get the baked eggs and ask for chorizo to be added for brunch, it's amazing). Also a really cozy spot for a winter dinner to make your way through the wine list by the fire. Go there a few times and the lovely staff will be greeting you by name.

Great food. Had the breakfast menu. Very yummy food. Basic avo smash was full of fresh citrus flavour with chilli for heat. Service is outstanding ! Coffee ... Top notch!

Mr & I had an impromptu day off together, and I was determined to find an awesome new brunch spot to kick the day off right. I'd driven past Meadow before, but it's so unassuming I thought it was some sort of homeware store! After browsing metro top 50, I got a little curious about this hideaway in Meadowbank, so let the discovering begin! Mr & I arrived about 11am on the Friday of along long weekend, and at first glance we couldn't be sure it was open, but the door opened and on in we went. We were greeted warmly but the staff at the bar, and told we could take a seat out in the skylight lit courtyard, but that it was warming up out in the courtyard, so out we went. We picked a sunny spot and were surrounded by human size pot plants growing fresh herbs and a lemon tree growing close by. The young lady waitress took our coffee orders while handing us our menus. I chose a smashed Avo on toast option, with king okra salmon and Mr. Had the big brekkie with a side of toast. When the big brekkie came out we soon discovered why no toast! A circular plate size hash-brown served as the base for the rest of the meal. The sausage was fragrant, the eggs perfectly cooked, the bacon crispy - yum yum yum! My meal had a mountain of Avo on beautiful five grain, and the side of salmon was incorporated on top, topped with coriander and a wedge of lime - delish! The coffee was All Press, no complaints there, and the meals came out promptly. The waitress was attentive without being overbearing. The only reason I could take off half of a mark was because when I thanked the chef in the open kitchen for a lovely meal, he seemed disinterested (perhaps he was just consumed with his work!). But we did get a friendly hurrah from who I assume to be the owner. We will definitely be back :) bravo meadow! Will definitely recommend!

Really enjoyed the ambience. We sat outside (in June), for lunch but in front of fire it was warm and cosy. The seared tuna with crispy capers was excellent but definitely needed the fries with it for complimentary carbs! Friendly, attentive service and a good wine list by the glass. Will return for the good vibe and good food.
Craig
Came here a while go on a busy weekend! While the food was delicious (I ordered the burger and nothing to fault about it!), it was let down by the service. My coffee order must of got mixed up and a latte arrived instead of the flat white I ordered and then the wrong bread arrived for my friend's meal. While the waiter was so nice! everything just took a bit too long and a couple of mistakes. However I don't really care about mixups as it always happens, it's definitely worth a visit :)

I have to limit how many pre work visits I make to meadow each week! Best coffee in meadowbank hands down, friendly staff, great service, yum menu, brilliant fit out. All you want in your local!!

After hearing the rave about this new cafe located in Meadowbank and called Meadow I just had to give it a go.

The first time I went I ordered the avocado smash, and it was simply delicious. It may seem like your ordinary avo on toast but it has some kick with chilli flakes and lime, definitely recommend for a quick bite before/after the gym. The second time round, I ordered the poached eggs on toast, of course this is a classic but executed well with the perfectly poached eggs and pesto; highly recommend if you want a nice light healthy meal, this classic will not disappoint. The freshly squeezed juices are divine, the apple carrot and ginger is my favourite. The sweetness of the apple, carrot but the subtle kick that the ginger gives to balance the flavours.

Overall, this cute "alternative" cafe, I definitely recommend for a quick brunch to catch up with friends and family and a great atmosphere with the nice homeware etc.

I came here recently for brunch with a couple of friends. The food was delicious and fresh. Great service as well, happily will chop and change a dish to suit your needs. The outside area is beautiful, especially on a nice day. If you are there for breakfast I recommend the big breakfast, a beautiful mix of food and it's only $20. I'm looking forward to coming here for dinner.

The first time I visited Meadow was for a brunch event back in December of last year. I must admit, I was a little wary about what it was going to be like, considering all the reviews I had read about the food not being up to standard and the service being a bit hit and miss. But I was pleasantly surprised!

What really caught my eye when walking into Meadow was how large the space was! You can choose to sit inside on bar stools, outside in the courtyard surrounded by trees and flowers or in the patio area which has an amazing glass roof (but beware it gets very hot - it feels like you're almost sitting inside a greenhouse!).

First of all, if you do go to Meadow, order a juice! They are refreshing, delicious and perfect on a hot summer's day. I ordered the 'Basic Energy' juice consisting of carrot, orange and ginger. I would happily come back and order three next time, it was that good!

I couldn't decide on just one breakfast (naturally) so I ordered a small Yoghurt Parfait, which had just the right amount of yoghurt and granola, plus the berry compote on top hit the spot! I also ordered the French Toast. It was okay, but I probably wouldn't order it again due to the fact that I have had better! It was also missing the usual berry, banana, bacon and maple syrup combo which I love so much.

I re-visited Meadow a few weeks later with a friend. I had been eyeing up their Acai Bowl, complete with homemade granola and milk. I wish I had ordered this the first time I dined at Meadow! It was delicious and not overly filling or rich, which made it the perfect breakfast.

In terms of service, well, unlike most reviews, both times it was friendly and not too 'in your face' which I liked. Plus a few of their waiters are kinda cute, making it a great place to people watch!

Overall, I am thrilled that there is finally a decent eatery in Meadowbank. Happy to say this will now become my local, as it is only a 30 minute walk from my house!

We just so happened to driving past St Johns when I started to feel a little peckish and wanted a coffee to accompany a potential snack. I saw Meadow which what looked like a cafe. Meadow is a light and airy cafe where the main seating is outside, underneath a glass roof. I initially thought it would be too hot and sunny to sit out there but it turned out ok or perhaps the sun just happened to be hiding behind some clouds while we were there. Meadow has a few bench style seating in doors by the bar.

Great cafe with a good lively atmosphere and service to suit. Meadow does offer a small selection of counterfood, but suggest you get in early to take advantage of it, otherwise like myself who visited in the early afternoon, most of the counterfood had been gone.

Food presentation was amazing but the taste was very average. Waiters are very attentive and generally very nice service. Good to go with friends

Food was okay (fish was bland), service from Charlie was excellent. The 2012 Sav Blanc listed as a 2013 was a surprise .... not in a good way!

What a pleasant surprise - place has an amazing outside space that can't be seen from the outside and the decor is gorgeous. Food delicious, service good and our tummies happy. Recommended

Meadow is a beautiful, airy cafe in Meadowbank. I had been meaning to try this cafe for quite sometime, we even came one Monday to find it was closed - my error on checking the opening hours before turning up. It has a very comforting chic interior - or should I say exterior. Most of the seating is outside but its covered with a beautiful glass roof. With the sun shining it's a warm area and ideal dining experience without being too cold or too hot.

We came for sunday brunch - my last Auckland meal before moving for to the UK. All reaping the pain and self infliction from Saturday nights event, we all ordered juices/smoothies and aimed to order some menu item with a form of grease to soak up the alcohol. Meadow offers a 'Build your own' option - choose from a a list of items to have for brunch - a couple of us chose this option. I think this is great if you dont like eggs! Also you get exactly what you ask for - the only downfall is that it isn't quite a "meal". I actually also ordered smoked salmon with mine - though came out late for some reason, however they did give me free sausages. I don't normally opt for sausages but they were actually quite tasty, without being too fatty tasting. I found the handmade potato rosti flavoursome but wished it was more rustic. It reminded me more of a potato fritter. The avocado smash was a good helping but for breakfast I think could be better if it was chunkier. This would give the dish more texture and it would remind you less of a spread. All the actual meals from the menu were are all presented beautifully and served with correct temperature and seasoning.

Meadow has a few misses but not enough that I wouldn't return, and maybe try the dinner menu for my next visit.

Rating
Food: 8/10
Service: 8/10
Value for Money: Very Good

20 St Johns Road, Meadowbank
Opening Hours: Tues-Sun 7am-10pm

The suburb of Meadowbank has long since needed a trendy eatery and with the opening of the eponymous Meadow, hopes were raised high. However it's pretty hit and miss. Hit: delicious, delightful juices; I recommend the sun sweetness and well selected wine list. Cool ambience and couture yet homely courtyard dining area. Generous portions; we were both in a food coma post-eating. Bottomless pit of scrumptious, well salted fries and they even give you a whole bottle of ketchup for your own perusal. Miss: wagyu burger; stay away from this, one of the blandest burgers I've ever consumed. The berry superfood smoothie literally tasted like those berry flavoured pump waters you get from the supermarket. Service was subpar, they were pleasant enough but rather inexperienced. Other: apparently only tall, lanky guys work there (seriously my neck was straining looking up to our waiter). With a few improvements though, I feel this place has potential.

Follow adl_taste_akl on Instagram for more reviews around Auckland!

As soon as meadow opened I started hearing people rave about it- so I decided to try it out. I've been there a few times, the first time I ordered a classic, and one of my favourites: eggs benny, and the second time, a delicious muesli. I was very fond of the fresh produce and great food that they served us. Waiters are helpful and friendly, and service was efficient. Definitely a great option for Sunday brunch or a healthy meal after the gym. Just side note- but if you're there don't miss the divine freshly squeezed juices!
Two Dark Coffees
I'll admit I visited Meadow today mainly to see what the whole fuss was about.

I don't know about you but this place is all everyone seems to be talking about.

Walking down a small lane and taking a right into the front door of Meadow I was surprised at how large the cafe actually is.

There is a reasonably sized indoor area and additionally hidden from the road is a spacious and modern courtyard.

We opted to sit in the courtyard, which was warmed by the afternoon sun and filled with the light chatter of a couple other tables.

Recommended was a bottle of Blue Moon wheat beer. It had an interesting orangey after taste which made it something I would have again.

Adding an Iced Coffee and two portions of fries happened quickly after.

Meadow really delivered with their shoestring fries - they went in a flash as a result.

The interior and overall feel of Meadow is modern and sophisticated. On a clean slate of concrete, bright white chairs invite you to hold a business meeting or have a formal brunch with a family member or friend.

Additionally the view from the courtyard peaks at the chefs working away in the kitchen.

The staff were all really friendly and overall service was efficient.

Coming to terms with the hype of this place has tempted me to return for a proper meal.
Amy @ My Dining Journey
Another Metro Top 50 Cafes and this time it’s tucked in Meadowbank, a peaceful suburb in East Auckland. Arriving on a stormy summer’s day (typical Auckland), the place was lively with a wait of around 15 minutes for a table. Using a beautiful palate of navy and powder blue, the stylish dining room and the outdoor courtyard sets a unique and chic vibe.

As Meadow is more like a restaurant and bar, there are limited options if you’re after brunch or coffee. My short macchiato was decent. Strong with just the right amount of milk. My sister’s healthy green smoothie was packed with fruits and vegetables, something to counter her wagyu beef burger with Swiss cheese and shoestring fries. I ordered the big breakfast with poached eggs, spicy chorizo, bacon and grilled vine tomato on top of a over-fried potato hash which spent too long in the pan. Dry and lacking much-needed sauce/moisture, I left most of the hash untouched.

It appears that the trend in Meadow is to hire beautiful tall waiters because they were everywhere. Service was pleasant and friendly and we received no pressure in vacating the table despite a busy afternoon. All across-the-board, Meadow is strikingly likeable and worth a visit!

3 of us went for lunch today (04-01-15) not overly busy, the food was good especially the wagyu burger, it arrived before the drinks did & then only 2 of us got our drinks, wasn't impressed paying $9 for a small glass of beer when a 1/4 of it was froth which I sent back & asked them to fill up
The young waiter was very apologetic for the service but when you have more people behind the bar than waiting tables something is going to give.
Very hot outside in the glasshouse but it didn't seem to deter the large number of flies though, it was like eating al fresco in Aussie.
Table For One
Great brunch menu and smoothies. Especially the peanut butter, coconut and banana one!
I had the eggs benedict which was a bit on the small side for the price but it tasted great.
The staff were friendly and attentive and I felt comfortable even though I'm anything but a Remuera local.
I'll be back to try out the skillet option!

When I walked into Meadow I was instantly impressed with the decor, the navy blue and white combo is crisp and clean and the outdoor area makes the most of the light on a sunny day. The hanging wreath over the mantle, the chairs, tables, right through to the plates and glasses has been given some considerate thought and was appreciated.

However the food was so disappointing. I ordered the garlic prawn salad with lemon chilli dressing. When it arrived at my table I looked down to a scattering of small prawns, some green leaves and mung beans. Not only did it lack colour but tasted very bland. Where was the chilli, or the garlic, or the lemon? All I could taste was olive oil. I pulled over the waiter and he said there was meant to be chilli so he took my meal away. My sister could see the chef complaining about my meal being sent back. Then round 2 arrived - a similar looking plate completely covered in chilli flakes. I took one bite and my mouth was on fire. There was no thought to flavour balance whatsoever. The chef had an even more disgruntled exchange with the waiter this time -which really shouldn't have been aired in front of us. I decided to switch options and ordered the open sandwich with avocado pea mash and cured salmon. I must admit this meal was better - the salmon being the main highlight but there was a small dish of chilli flakes on the side of my plate. I have to ask was the chef playing a joke on me or do they like to disguise their food in chilli?

Our waiter was friendly and attentive enough, however no one knew quite how to handle a complaint and the food really did let the whole experience down.

I doubt I'll give Meadow a second visit unless they think about menu consistency and up their service.
Wayne-Kirsty Meadows-Allan
2nd time round for me, and yes they have improved and taken good steps forward. Well done. We had the pizza which was great for our lunch. Venue was clean and tidy and the bathrooms were very well presented. Keep up the good work. :)

The food was really good everyone was very pleased with their meals. I got the Wagu Beef burger with Swiss Cheese, Pickle and Fries, added a bit of hot sauce and was very good. Good menu and drinks list. It was just such a shame that the waitress was basically watching our every move ready to swift away out plates as soon as we looked like we were possibly finished. She was polite but over attentive and just felt she wanted us gone so she could go home. Worth a visit, just hope we picked a bad night.
Bella Lily
I've dined here a number of times since it recently opened and find the food to be fine, nothing overly exciting nor nothing to complain about taste wise. The cocktails are overpriced and unexciting. The food portions are small, however I don't mind this as I'm not normally able to eat a full plate. I like the atmosphere and the setting however the staff are majorly ill equipt to deal with the popularity of the place. There seem to be a lot of them, however they are either overly enthusiac or awkward and unable to be properly attentive without prompt. It's a shame as it really brings the place down. Hopefully in the near future the staff will be put through some much needed training.

We had a meal on 2nd Nov and found the food very good. The only comment we make is that the music was so loud that we could not hear each talk across the table and could not hear the waitress.

We walked into Meadow last friday night.....happy as we now have a local...the Meadowbank neighbourhood were there...it was in full swing....the decor/ ambience is really beautiful...had a gorgeous bottle of wine whilst waiting for a table...
We didnt wait overly long....
Menu reads well.....we started with calamari...which was ok..both blokes had french onion soup which was quite thin and over salty...not much love there...onto mains..my fish with risotto was the portion size that i would serve my 6 year old..it was so small..i was so hungry so ordered fries...i needed dessert...ag $14 a pop I was expecting a decent serve...the brulee was tiny...and the pudding was really dry....
Starving...I went home and had a toastie.
They really need to put some love into their dishes...the prices are quite high.....and the clientele discerning.....
Mrs M

This new cafĂ© and bar located in Meadowbank is aptly named Meadow, not only for its location but also for being an “open field” of sorts full of culinary delights. It is open for breakfast, brunch and dinner in a suburb that has been lacking trendy dining options for while.

The brunch menu was full of variety ranging from an acai bowl, Caesar salad, open sandwiches, a wagyu steak burger and tuna steak to name a few. We started with a few juices ($6.50 each) that were deliciously fresh. The tuna steak ($27) was just that – tuna seared on the outside, and rare on the inside – with a tahini dressing and a herby-walnut pesto on top. It was melt in the mouth and tasty. The wagyu burger ($19) with swiss cheese and pickle was served with a side of crunchy shoe-sting fries. The meat patty was cooked medium rare resulting in a juicy and satisfying burger – just how burgers should be. The fries were definitely a winner and even declared to top those served at McD’s!

Meadow’s Martha Vineyard’s-esque vibe with an expansive outdoor courtyard is the perfect setting for long summer lunches and early evening al fresco dining. Modern and fun light fittings; greenery (pots of herbs are the centre piece of most the tables and there is a lemon tree further back in the courtyard) and an open outdoor fireplace complement the white, blue and grey colour palate. The fireplace, although a lovely concept, was exceptionally smoky and left us leaving the restaurant with a strong smell of smoke.

The service was initially upbeat, welcoming and seemingly on-point however once we were seated we had several waiters taking our orders (with one not realising that we had already placed a drinks order with a fellow staff member). More attention could be paid to little things such topping up water glasses and seating of new patrons. While we were finishing up there were three tables that had to walk up to get their own menus and wait for service. These are probably just a few teething problems due to the newness of the premises and a busy Saturday lunchtime crowd. I’m sure these kinks will be straightened out with time. Nevertheless, this will not stop me from recommending others to sample this great addition to the Eastern suburbs. It sure will become a top spot for get-togethers, evening drinks and good food in a handy suburban location.
