Review Okra Espresso Lounge - Auckland Central

Brandon Wilcox
The food was super flavoursome! Two of us had the big breakfast and one had the beef quesadilla. It was all amazing. I had a “large” coconut latte and it would be better described as “humongous”; it was a very generously sized cup. Overall, we’ve been wanting to come here for some time and Okra did not disappoint.

I LOVE OKRA SO MUCH. This is undeniably my favourite place in auckland. The staff are amazing. Food is outstanding and 100% worth the price. Environment is lovely it's just an absolute dream.
Colin Mathura-Jeffree
I needed a place for a business meeting to discuss new opportunities and upstairsat Okra was perfect. The coffee was on point and then they brought out a flavourful breakfast.
Anthony McGivern
Great location, the staff are super nice and the food is so full of flavour. It's our regular local now. We go at least one a week. Highly recommend the creamy mushrooms dish if your dining - the sauce is delicious!

amazing place. Coffee was best I have had all week and croissant was great. Staff super friendly !

Nice little quiet place to have great breakfast. They also have a little courtyard seating area.

Started happy Sunday at Okra Espresso Lounge, Kingsland. Heaps of off-street parkings and nice backyard dining area. Super professional customer service. ✅✅✅Staff served puppy fresh water, too! However, I was expecting there would be more choices of breakfast. We chose big breakfast & paleo breakfast, both were served with good portions and high quality.💯 One of the reasonable priced restaurants in AKL.
Jarinda Engelbrecht
Had a pretty decent breakfast. Eggs Benedict was spot on. They even exchanged fried tomato for extra kransky sausage at no extra cost. Only downside, coffee was a bit cold. Better to make your coffee on the warm side, it is a cold winter.
Ken Hita
This cafe is awesome. Staff friendly. Service was great. And food was delicious. They say first impression count, and Okra did all that. I will return as this is in our local area. Way to go Okra staff and cafe. I give you 5 stars.

Gotta love cute coffee spots that think outside the box! The cup holder made me smile and the coffee and service really made my morning. Thank you Okra ! Highly recommend !!

The food and coffee were both really good!! The service from the male waiter which seemed to be a student was really good but the other lady who seemed a bit older was shocking!! She was so rude and told us the kids ice cream was an extra $5 on the pancakes when it was meant to be included and must have forgotten about half of our coffees, but her terrible service was made up from the other male waiter

The Vietnamese noodle salad with tofu was amazing. This dish usually has meat but I substituted the tofu in as I’m vegetarian. This dish was the best vegetarian Vietnamese noodle salad I’ve tasted and the tofu was so beautifully marinated with sweet soy sauce. 100% recommend this dish!!

I very rarely every eat poached eggs. Having this dish (The Royale I believe), I couldn’t have imagined anything better to top it off than poached eggs. I asked for the hollandaise on the side, which was a lot as you can see and it was subtle, unlike most hollandaise sauces which I find to be too much. The combo of the mushrooms, pesto and the pide was on point!! My mum enjoyed the granola, but was too big for her to finish. She would recommend adding a bit more yoghurt to even out the sweetness of the granola.
Their homemade crumpet with the honey comb butter and salted caramel is a nice dish if you’re looking a decent sized dish that still fills you up given you’re not feeling extremely hungry.

Never disappointed by the coffee here, anything from a mocha to a cappuccino, latte or short black. Very friendly staff too 👍🏻😃

Visited for brunch - ordered the chorizo omelette and kids pancakes, both were beautifully presented and delicious. Generous portions (we couldn’t finish either!) and good value. We were served swiftly and food came out quickly. Cafe is a little bit dated but happy with the food and service and will definitely return :-)

Gorgeous spot for brunch. Amazing coffee, generously sized, I ordered a caramel latte. The food was fantastic, I ordered the big breakfast and everything was cooked really well. Staff were also lovely and approached us as soon as we walked over to the counter. Highly recommend.

Coffee was good, tables were filthy. Ordered the smashed avo on toast, smashed being the key word here. Was given two bits of sourdough with that awful purée stuff thinly spread across the toast. Ordered the beans to go on the side which tasted like a bad combo of water and vinegar. Hash brown wasn’t seasoned in any way. Service was okay. Little side note
If staff can wear whatever they want then they should at least look presentable.

Booked a nice Mothers’ day brunch for my partner, her mum, and myself. This has been the third time I've been there, but the first time to review. If you have bigger groups, there's also a place out back that's lovely as well.

I’ve had the Spanish breakfast before which was yummy, but my ultimate favorite and the reason I come here is for the Creamy Chorizo.

If you like a sweet breakfast, my partner recommends the Brioche French Toast. She was only sad because the salted caramel was left off the plate this time.

If you’re on that intermittent fasting trend, this is perfect for your first meal of the day. The staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is buzzing and most importantly the food has always been delicious.

I got the blueberry pancakes and the summer fling smoothie. Can't go wrong with the flavour combos, but the pancakes tasted floury? The drink was yum and I liked the meringues, so will come back to try again 🥞

Food: 3.5/5
Service: 3.5/5
Ambience: 4.5/5
Cost: 3.5/5

Arrived to this cool looking quirky cafe for Saturday brunch. We were greeted and seated straight away in the cafe.

We ordered “Eggs on Toast” with sides of their Hash Brown and Grilled Mushrooms (3.5/5), along with the “Okra Big Breakfast” (4/5) and two Flat white Coffee..

I chose scrambled eggs for Eggs on Toast, and found the eggs slightly over-cooked with the sourdough a tad bit dry. The Hash brown has quite unique taste to it, it’s nice, however I found it abit bland for my liking.
The tomato relish was delicious and Grilled Mushrooms were cooked to perfection. Coffees were well made.

My husband and I had a double date here and we absolutely loved it, it was a very cute place, a house that is done up as a little cafe, we sat in a room upstairs and had a nice little view of the street

We ordered breakfast and it was excellent. My husband ordered the Paleo breakfast and it was amazing!

Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a good cafe with excellent food.

I’ve only been here a few time however the times I have been here, I’ve enjoyed the food and the service. Bubbly staff, has a relaxing ambience. There’s a small courtyard at the back which is great. I ordered this takeaway so plated it when I got home. Would definitely return.
Temptation Cakes Auckland
Went in on Easter Monday got really speedy service and was not too busy which was great as we were starving hehehe! Had the vegan breakfast at $21 seemed small as didn't come with toast so we had that added, that and baked beans so it was more filling with add ons. Made it $30 though. My partner had the Spanish breaky said it was really good that did come with toast. Coffee was excellent also. I highly recommend but if hungry add some toast and a side to the vegan breaky to fill yourself up.
The mushrooms were so good as was the scram tofu and chickpeas, hash, spinach and beetroot hummus. Tomatoe was not cooked though that would of been nice. Will deffo be back. Thanks guys.

Been coming here for 10 years, always been my favourite spot, but they seemed to have changed there menu and also there portion sizes, which was quite disappointing. They must be paying top dollar for there potatoes or something, because they were a quarter of the size they used to be. Don’t think I’ll be coming back.

We have been regulars to this café for the last 4 or so years as we live nearby. Generally the food is very good as is the friendly atmosphere. That said, I had possibly the worst customer experience I've ever had last weekend. After waiting over 20 minutes to be served (with the waiters ignoring us and many other customers nearby) our food arrived with most of the order was wrong. On top of that, and after having a couple of mouthfuls of my poached eggs I sent my dish back as they were still raw. Despite my dish including two eggs and bacon (which I hadn't touched) I was bought back one egg on a piece of toast! It seemed other customers were experiencing similar issues as well. As a result, we are on the look out for a new, local café.

Seated in the outdoor area, refreshingly surrounded by plants and art, we ordered the 'humble eggs benedict' along with an iced chocolate. I have to say this is one of the better eggs benedict I have had in Auckland. The base was a toasted turkish pide which was a point of difference as the flavours of the sesame seed came through and really complimented the dish. The bacon was well cooked with a great smoky, salty flavour. Pesto was a perfect addition as it added some zing to what can sometimes be an overly rich meal. The hollandaise sauce ratio was didn't overpower the rest of the flavours but instead married them all together. The eggs were runny and bright in colour. For $17 I was extremely satisfied. My drink choice was also a winner as for $7 I received a very large glass of a very unique tasting iced chocolate, my eating companion compared the flavour to easter eggs. I would and will be returning soon.
Heidi
I love their hot chocolates!! They are the best!! I have had them around 4 times and will definitely come again. I tried their breakfast menu and choose the blueberry pancakes with ice cream and it took around 10 minutes and it was so good. Very big portions and super yummy. I couldn't finish it all but i really enjoyed it!!
Christina
Tried out their eggs bene, called Mr Royale, and quite enjoyed it.
The hollandaise sauce was homemade and had a delicious unique flavour, and I liked the additional touch of the potato cake with cumin flavour all through it. Portion size overall was good.
For $19 it was enjoyable enough. The location is also good as there's plenty of residential free parking round the corner.

Recommend.
Taste 👌 Each dish is perfect for brunch or lunch and was filling. The burger was great as the bun was soft and filled with flavour. The French toast is delicious.
Aesthetics 👌 The presentation looks very eye-catching.
Service 👍 The waiters were cheerful and kind, however due to the small building size, the outside sheltered area was quite far from the counter and so it was quite difficult to call for service (the kitchen was in between and so there was a little corridor connecting both areas of the cafe).
Environment 👌 Outside covered area of the cafe was cute and had very natural themed. Felt like a little garden.
Only major downside to this little cafe is its location and parking.

Came with a Large group on a Sunday morning. Fantastic service very attentive to everyone's dietary needs. Wait time was reasonable. Got the feed the vegan with avocado instead of tofu scramble. The hash brown is sweet and to die for. The chutney was so delicious and the roasted tomatoes were perfect.

My only complaint is that the mushrooms were slightly more oiler than I would have liked them to be and tasted slightly odd but nonetheless enjoyed the accomodating service and quality well presented food.

Will definitely come back again when I'm in the area.
Emma Barry
Came here for brunch with my partner. The outdoor seating was nicely shaded and provided a good setting for a typical summer day.

He ordered the French toast and I ordered the eggs Royale with haloumi.
To be honest, I was slightly dissapointed with my meal. It was bland, and the portion size seemed small for 19.50. My partner thought his french toast was nice, stock stock standard, but nothing special.

I think a new girl was serving us, she was tentative with holding the coffees, which were also very average, and expensive. There was no service with a smile.

Being a public holiday there was a surcharge which was the icing on the cake.

Better luck next time??

Stopped by for brunch here with my partner in the weekend and we were pleasantly surprised with what this little café had to offer. With lots of natural light (perfect for foodie snaps), wooden tables and refreshing green walls, there was an instant homely feel to this café. It should be easy to get a table with plenty of seating inside across two levels and tables outside. The service is very good and the staff (and I must add the manager too) were easy going and friendly - the kind of service we need.

My partner and I weren’t very hungry so decided to share the vegetarian breakfast as we wanted a little taster of everything. The dish was well portioned with two pieces of sour dough, eggs, hashbrowns, spinach, relish, pesto, feta, mushrooms and tomato. Yum! The dish was really well done and we easily cleaned up the whole plate. Thumbs up to their original hashbrowns.

On to the drinks... I ordered the Iced salted caramel which was delicious and the perfect balance of sweet and salty. Will be craving it this summer! My partner had a flat white which was well done and what a great idea to text in your order for those on the run. If only they were closer to home.

Will be back to try out more from the menu and for another Iced salted caramel of course….👌🏽👌🏽
James T. Raukete
Texting your coffee order. Such an awesome idea. It's hard finding a good coffee, especially when you're in a rush, but this place does both!

Okra Cafe is a great spot to grab your morning coffee if you're in a rush or if you're looking for breakfast as we'll. Normally I'm in just for coffee and maybe a filled croissant (which is awesome) but decided to stop in for breakfast.

The Eggs Royale with Grilled Haloumi is on point. There is nothing like Poached Eggs covered in an egg sauce on top of toast and grilled Haloumi! 👌🏽
Ayaan
Had to check out the hype, service bit slow and food is average, coffee bitter maybe it wasn't there day not sure if I'll be back maybe we will give it a shot again at some stage

The quest to find the best iced coffee in my neighbourhood part 2:
Okra's iced coffee was thinner than most icy blended beverages I've had, so I drank it quickly. This made it feel a bit 'cheap' and not quite the indulgent drink I was planning to get myself on Monday morning. The $7 price tag was a bit high for the quality of the drink. Despite this, the drink had a decent coffee taste, though it got a bit diluted towards the end. There was plenty of froth on the top, possibly a bit too much for my liking. I got a pretty good caffeine hit for my studying, but this probably isn't my go- to drink.

Wow! I love going to okra, I'm there at least 5 times a week. Always spot on if u need a latte and with a side of banter from the lovely staff!!
Janelle Brown
Such an amazing cafe that's such a great find and I promise you'll re-visit.

Always love their food, the Beef Burger is easily one of the best burgers I've tried from a cafe and my partner loves the Creamy Chorizo.

They also do freshly pressed juices which are so delicious, especially their "Tropical Trip)

Service is great and always seems to be busy, but you always still manage to grab a seat!

I went to this cafe this morning for breakfast and was very impressed. The coffee and food were great and good service by staff. The menu has a good range of food for breakfast and lunch. Although I didn't have the squeezed juices they looked really good, served in funky jars. A good range of indoor and outdoor seating. Would be happy to return to this establishment.
I come along wiz two friend. We enjoy this nice little place. We granted a cup latte, a cup of mocha and a hot apple cider❤️。 nice coffee and service. We also ordered an dessert when we finished the coffee. It is yum. I plan to come again and try more food here~

This is the possibly the 4th time I have been here and each and every time I have enjoyed the food. My mother an brother come here every weekend for their coffee fix and they refuse to go anywhere else. I am not a coffee drinker but it must be good!

Staff: Friendly, polite and helpful
Taste: Yummy tasting food I have only tried the breakfast, sweets and their shakes which I enjoy (they have a different type of homemade hash browns most people tend to like them however that is probably the only thing that my tastebuds could do without.
Cost: Im a fairly large eater and tend to spend approx $22 + odd on breakfast only but it is def worth it. Some other things such as shakes are probably slightly overpriced.

Paleo brekky is good if you would prefer a very healthy option, mushrooms only on toast if you aren't a big eater and mine Eggs Royale plus I ordered a side of mushrooms. Just the right amount of food!

If I didn't live so far I would probably be here more often 😍
Emma89
Awesome little place! Love it, what else can I say? I will definitely be back, staff were great too.

I am keen to try more next time, will bring hubby here also. Thanks guys

Came here for a breakfast and popped in as we passed by! I had the Eggs Benedict & my partner had the Okra breakfast, lets just say we both (me especially) cleared our plates clean it was so yummy! Friendly staff, food came at a good time & good coffee.. Won't hesitate to come back, it was lovely sitting out the front watching the rain & enjoying the food! Thank you!
Roni Ramone
Really friendly staff, really nice environment and heaps of tasty food and drink options, I'll definitely be coming back! Perfect place for brunch!
Athena
Went there for a saturday brunch, its a well lit cafe and was buzzing with people.
We ordered coffee , paleo breakfast, and eggs royale with halloumi.
The food was delicious, ingredients were fresh and complemented each other well.
We give it 5/5 for food, coffee is good once you get past the first couple of sips (initially the coffee is strong and bitter), it gets better.
Was a little too hot inside.
S B
A great little cafe on Sandringham Road with seating out front, inside and in the courtyard out the back. We had very good coffee, plus we shared a ginger slice, which was similar to a fudge slice with ginger pieces. We received excellent friendly service.
Louise MacNaughton
I absolutely love this place! I have been coming here for years and I always bring friends here as I know it's a guarantee they will enjoy it.

Favourite menu item is the eggs benedict, of course. It comes on Turkish bread which is amazing I wish there was more of it!

Heaps of courtyard seating which is sheltered, so coming here when it's raining isn't a problem.
Josh Law
What a cool little place this is! I came here on a lazy Saturday afternoon and had brunch. I had a coffee and the Eggs Royale, which consisted of poached eggs on toast with smoked salmon and falafel. It was a pretty solid meal. The whole lot came to 23 which I thought was pretty reasonable. The staff were friendly and attentive and the outside courtyard area was really quite nice. Which meant that you could choose from uncovered, inside or shaded outside.
Emily Pavey
Lovely place - very welcoming and that includes the wonderful, friendly staff. Sat in the courtyard for lunch and enjoyed beetroot and feta tacos. Divine - delicious, fresh ingredients, lots of flavour. I had the garden fresh juice as well which was delicious and didn't taste too earthy as these juices often do. A friend enjoyed the chicken and bacon sandwich - simple ingredients, delicious, and the mango and passion fruit smoothie which was as good as it sounds! Great little place, wish I lived nearby so I could make it my local!
Samantha Lines
We've been here a couple of times now and love it! The cafe is based in an old house so there's room downstairs, upstairs and in the courtyard out back. Their coffee is always on point and they have a great menu to choose from.
I'd love to come back for the lunch options but so far have so enjoyed the breakfast/brunch options.
I had the vegetarian feed breakfast which comes with mushrooms and spinach and feta and is delicious. Their homemade hashbrown is spiced slightly with curry powder or cumin and gives it a very subtle difference to anywhere else. It's delicious! I love their sourdough bread and their poached eggs are always perfect! Michael has has their big breakfast which is served with a fantastic kransky sausage and looked all kinds of yummy! He's also tried the creamy chorizo which was fantastic. It's served in a pan and is basically heaven in a bake.
The morning slap smoothie is a fantastic mix of ginger and citrus and their berry smoothie is tart without being sour.

Overall I love this place with it's great food and friendly staff. I'll definitely be coming back time and time again.

Okra espresso lounge never fails to impress me, simple delicious food at reasonable prices. Service is friendly and atmosphere welcoming. An awesome place to visit for breakfast or lunch :)
Amanda B
Yummmmy food and somehow I managed to eat all my big breakfast! The coffee was delicious and we sat out the back which I was surprised about as the whole place looked smaller than I thought. Parking was ok on Sandringham road and service was attentive and friendly.
EssJay
Excellant food, great value for money. Nice location, friendly staff nice seating arrangement what more can you ask for? I have not yet tried their coffee but thats for my next visit!
Grace Hart
Love Okra! Always without a doubt they produce delicious quality food with fresh ingredients and free range produce. Coffee is great too! I am always worried to go somewhere else for brunch/lunch because I know Okra will always be better! Customer service is great, friendly and attentive, Thank you Okra! Great service and great food always, you never disappoint :)
Michele
Have lost count of the number of people I've told about Okra. Has been a favourite place of mine for years. After this morning, I can't help feeling like its lost some of the appeal. We turned up, got a table out the back & didn't have to wait too long before someone came to see if we wanted menus/water/took our coffee order. But after the coffee order was taken, we never saw the waitress again. Someone else came out to see if we were OK after about 5-10 minutes, went off & got the menus but never came back to take our order. We were about to pay for our coffee and leave when a third person came to take our menus away & we told her our order hadn't even been taken. By this time we'd been there about half an hour. She was extremely apologetic & made sure our food arrived quickly. Food was as tasty as always, but slack service is what makes people start going elsewhere.

What a great little place! Originally had plans to go to Crave around the corner but it was beyond busy! Okra was not busy so service was quick..staff were friendly and food was amazing! I had chorizo/mushrooms on toast with a side of eggs plus a salted caramel iced shake. It was amazing good and my new favorite! The kids had a great menu to chose from and the mango/passion fruit smoothie they had was delicious. We sat in the courtyard which was nice and sunny! The cabinet food looked really good so keen to come again and try! :)
Stephanie Balsom
Great little corner cafe. Good place to stop by if you want to sit down or grab something on the go. Food and drinks were fast. I was really hoping to get in for lunch but haven't had the chance yet.
Headed down for brekkie and it was like any other breakfast menu with a few twists here and there. Grabbed a pre made salmon bagel which was great. What I really loved was the smoothies, definitely as good as id been told by others.
Certainly will be returning to try out more of the menu :)
Michael Exton
Okra from the outside looks like nothing much. But once being here you will be presently surprised. It has become one of the regulars for my partner and I. Good service and friendliness by all the staff. The coffee is exceptional and great quality. Food is fantastic with a good selection. I like the paleo breakfast myself. It's a great breakfast, brunch or lunch venue. I highly recommend this to you.
Chandara Honn
Really great place with consistent taste and service. love their little outdoor areas but don't leave your food unattended, even the birds knows the food is great. Would recommend this to all my friends to try.
Michael Coup
Great breakfast, we keep going back again and again, the Spanish breakfast is worth trying as are most of the other options, I would rate the breakfast better than their neighbours as well, We've also been for dinner which they have just started doing and while it was quiet when we were there the food was great and very reasonably priced
Louisa Vickers
I’ve been to Okra several thousand times now; it has become the go to brunch place for my partner and I on Saturday. We generally end up sitting outside or in the partially outside hidden alcove. I love everything on their breakfast menu, and the food is of great quality. My favourites are the breakfast salad (for something different) or any of their muesli/porridge selections. Their juices are delicious, and the coffee is apparently wonderful (I’m not a coffee drinker but my partner is a bit of a connoisseur. The price point isn’t too high, and the food is of a great quality. Service is not always particularly prompt, but it’s usually when they are very busy that this happens, so that is understandable.

Basically, every time we eat here it is a pleasant experience, and we keep going back for more!
NCC1701
I loved the food here. The prawn tacos were super fresh and packed full of deliciousness.
Hash browns here are home made and super tasty. Everything on the Brunch menu looks appetizing as well.

If you feel like dessert in a cup try their non alcoholic apple cider - it is absolutely delicious! The coffees are great as well.
Annie Bananie
This is absolutely my favourite lunch place! Which a good variety of brunch and lunch to choose from. The Spanish Breakfast is Amazeballs and their smoothies are also top notch

We didn't know if OEL was open when we arrived @ 1pm, as most of the chairs inside were up on the tables even though there were tables set up outside. It was open, they were just cleaning. We'd intended on having a bite there, but the staff were still mopping around us and all I could smell was disenfectant. I've been to OEL a few times and it really does feel like it's time for a make over, a bit of a paint even.

The staff were lovely and friendly and my coffee was nice and strong, my mate had a hot toddie which he said was nice and then we ventured onto another venue for lunch.
Fare Henry
Unfortunately my partner and I arrived a little too late that kitchen was closed however the food at the counter was available. The service was excellent and I can't wait to return for a cooked meal fresh from the kitchen. I had a sweet brioche and it was absolutely delicious.
GunJumperMady
Okra is the greatest and always delivers! Their food is fantastic (Mr Royal is my fav) coffee is great. Service is lovely and kind. It's a local and they always deliver the same great consistent taste and menu !!
Joanne Chiang
Decided to give Okra a try. Walked in and saw a big B grade but i tried not to think too much about it. I had the spanish breakfast and my partner for Mr Royale. Spanish breakfast was very delicious, it has loads of beans and chorizo! My partner really enjoy his Mr Royale, the only thing he didnt like about it was the homemade hasbrown which was a bit too oily for him. Overall the food experience in Okra was really good.
Hayden Battersby
I have eaten at Okra a few times now and the food is epic and delicious , there service is great and very welcoming .The place has good atmosphere and i would recommend to anyone to go to and try there creamy chritzo and mushrooms with bruschetta and also there slow cook pork belly was awesome !! there is to much awesome sounding food on the menu i never know what to choose each time im there . I was very impressed with all there effort thanks guys and gals for making it a good experience everytime !! : D

Okra was recommended to me by a friend who goes there regularly for weekend brunch. On that recommendation we decided to host a #brunchclub here and I've since been back a couple of times for brunch with friends.

It's a classic kiwi cafe with a chilled vibe and a wicked covered courtyard.

The menu is detailed with plenty of options, amongst which I'm a big fan of the Creamy Mushrooms. If you're there for lunch, the pan fried haloumi is well worth checking out.

My favourite aspect is that you can get a Whittaker's Sante bar with your coffee. Coffee and chocolate is already amazing but coffee with Whittaker's chocolate is next level!

#challenge
Bizcochito
Had a yummy breakfast here (vege breakfast + Spanish breakfast) with great coffee and juices too. Juices were a good size; bigger than the norm. The service was not great. I get that they have a very laid back vibe but it bordered on just uninterested and unprofessional. Would go back for the food though
Nico Donovan-Pereira
Today I had their beef burger geat local espresso lounge with friendly staff and great service. Their coffees and breakfasts are a go to option for anyone in auckland. They have indoor seating downstairs and up, as well as a courtyard out back.

Really chilled vibe here. Good coffee. Good food. Good staff. There's a nice outside area out back and more seating upstairs.
Great place to sit and waste half a day
Ryan Orr
I come in to Okra for breakfast and a coffee most weekends. the food is always tasty, the coffee is always strong and the staff are always great!
Camille Harrison
I absolutely love Okra!! The staff are so welcoming and the food never disappoints. I ordered Whittikers mint chocolate milkshake, and it was all that i expected it to be and more! Some very unusual food and drink options, which I think all adds to the great character of this place!
Hannah K
Stop here on my way to work, the coffee is amazing and the savoury muffins are so delicious!!! Very friendly staff too. Haven't ordered anything from kitchen so can't comment on that :)
Chin And Prony Powichitkul
5stars just for the amazing coffee! I love my latte bowls and partner usually get his espresso over ice. Friendly staff who aren't tired looking and is full of energy-contributes to the active atmosphere. Nice, interesting layout and seatings. Will find some time to try the food menu soon.
Myfoxycorner
Okra is one of my top cafes in Auckland because it ticks all of the boxes. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious, the coffee is strong, the surroundings perfect for a lazy Sunday. Their pancakes with lime curd, maple syrup and coconut are to die for but their savoury options are just as good. I love their vegetarian big breakfast and anything involving their creamy mushrooms, but Edd always enjoys their Eggs Royale, with haloumi, spinach and hollandaise. Their fresh juices are full of flavour and for more of a treat try the salted caramel milkshake, it's heaven in a jar.
Okra is a firm favourite and I keep going back. Never having had a disappointing meal there I can vouch for the reliability of their food. I can go back week after week and the food is no less amazing.
Garry Trewin
Excellent service as soon as we sat down we were asked if we would like a coffee and that came promptly followed by our amazing pancakes and french toast
Big Cheese
Went here today after returning home to live from Australia and this place blows any cafés the Aussie have away!!!!! Great coffee and fresh juices and the big breakfast was amaze balls ! With 2 poached to perfection eggs 2 kransky sausages a mound of bacon ,mushrooms, tomato, ciabatta , salsa and pesto all washed down with a fresh orange lemon and ginger juice which perked me up straight away after having 1 to many the night before, I am not a coffee drinker but my girlfriend loves the stuff and she said her flat White was one of the best she had and her eggs benny was 10/10! We will be back every weekend to sample everything this gem has to offer and take in the awesome vibe this little caffe oozes . Highly recommend best cafe iv been to period, we will be regular here from now on.
Taryn Muir
Went there on Easter Monday. Cafe was empty inside but all tables outside were full. Waitress was impatient and rude and seemed just generally annoyed. Negative vibes, just ended up avoiding her so we could enjoy our meal.

Food was very nice, no complaints there.

Thanks luvlies for a wonderful breakfast, we all needed that today and you delivered! The feeling was relaxed, the freshly squeezed juice amazing, and our food was totally delicious xxxx Many thanks for all that, and for rescuing the grandson's drink bottle - you guys from kitchen to front are wonderful.
Love this place! Greats service, great food and all around excellent. Have been there just two people as well as in a group and the food is always out in a timely manner. The staff bend over backwards to ensure smooth service with great recommendations

Breakfast is easy, great coffee and fresh tasty food. Unlike many others these guys have the formula right. There is also an outside, but covered area to sit if you have a dog.

After 11 you also have the option of the lunch menu rather than breakfast.

Worth a stop if heading past.

My wife and I went in recently to see what Okra was like since the revamp. We really liked the new decor and arrangement. The place looks lighter and has great character. The coffee was as strong and great as always.

Okra has been under new management for a few months and has lost some of its charm and staff character that would cause you come back and overlook the grimy-ness. However the new management have really cleaned it up inside, lightening and brightening it, optimised space and it is always now fresh and clean, and they continue a similar menu with their amazing unique hash browns along with other great food. Staff are friendly and service generally good. Their chai lattes need more oomph, but loving the option of dialling in the chai if coffee order on the way to work and stopping to pick it up. Recommended.

The inside of the place was dirty and greasy so i decided to eat outside. The staff were outside having a cigarette in work aprons not a good look for hygiene purposes. I ordered fruit salad was like a kid size portion so I ordered banana french toast which was hard like cardboard and tasted old and had been microwaved could'nt finish it felt heavy and gluggy. Not a cafe I would frequent again.

Me and my husband have always wanted to try this place as it always looks busy but when we went there it was disappointing and we won't be returning. My mother in law got pancakes and they came out raw and had to be sent back and by the time they came back the rest of us had finished, they still came back half raw so was only able to eat half. I got the French toast which came out dry as anything and we needed to ask for more maple syrup to try make them not so dry. The waitdress was very rude no smiles right from the start and wasnt a help at all there wasnt even a sorry.

Always good. Nice place to chill and take the world slowly. They have always looked after us well here. The veggy breakfast is brilliant.

I have NEVER experienced a bad meal from Okra!
In fact, every meal exceeds expectations. I can't stress enough how delicious and awesome everything is.
Best eggs benedict I've ever had in my life! By far!

Plus, awesomest staff out. Can't be beat. Good for a laugh, as well as the excellent service.
Top marks for environment too. It's impossible to come here and not feel great.
Also - still can't belief how cheap it is! I mean, I'd expect to pay a lot more for food this good. Stuff going to ponsy overpriced cafe's. Okra is the way to go

Definitely a place where coffee is made for the pallet. Makes scrumptious Eggs Benedicts and love the scramble eggs with tomato salsa.

Unfortunately on my last visit the lamb salad my friend ordered and the omelette I had wasn't the best.

Pucker up, use to love going there.

Okra would have to be one of mine and my boyfriend's favourite brunch spots; they have a great range on their menu and nothing has ever fallen short of excellent. Okra is in a handy location, catches plenty of sun, and offers three seating locations. Their staff are friendly, service is efficient, and the atmosphere is always nice and relaxed. Their chicken salad, brioche french toast, and muesli are highly recommended by me!

Okra is a lovely cafe on the corner of Sandringham Rd and Ethel St, with sunny outdoor seating and a bright interior. They have a reasonably large brunch and lunch menu and cabinet food. I recently went for brunch and had the Spanish breakfast which was beans, eggs, bacon and chorizo in a cast iron pan with bread and sour cream on the side. It was OK but the beans and tomato were a bit bland and could have used some chili and other spices. The salmon in the eggs Royale was very dry and firm and not the tastiest. The eggs were well cooked and the sides were reasonably priced. We ordered the salted caramel milkshake and opinions were split. I really, really liked it but some thought it was both too sweet and too salty. The whole point of a salted caramel milkshake is to be sweet and salty! I would go back to Okra for brunch but I wouldn't get the Spanish breakfast or the salmon.

Okra is our favourite breakfast spot as my husband cannot get enough of their big breakfast. Since they have revamped now under new management, we were pleased to see the new owners have kept our favourites on the menu. The decor is much brighter and lighter though we always opt for a table out back in their covered courtyard.

We came for a late brunch yesterday, he had the big breakfast with extra relish and I tried out their new pork belly sandwich. The sandwich was delicious, sweet and savoury and the pork melt-in-your-mouth tender. Though for the price I felt it was a bit small. I'm wasn't particularly hungry and I finished everything on my plate so it wouldn't quench the appetite of a hungry bear. Husband was happy (as always). Their food is consistent which is why we return regularly.

Recommendations: The hash brown is unusual and delicious, more like a spiced croquette and the menu traditionally has a lean towards Louisiana Creole cuisine, hence the name "Okra". I've also enjoyed their Spanish breakfast (served in a cast iron pan) and they also do an impressive vegetarian big breakfast. Okra is great if you feel like brunch with a tasty twist.

Edit: May 2015. Came here for brunch in the weekend. Food is still as good as before and their coffee is SERIOUS. I had the creamy chorizo and mushroom which comes with toast and their signature hash brown. A huge, tasty plate of food. Great value.
