Review Caffe Massimo Newmarket - Auckland Central

Rebecca KEENAN
Pleasant surroundings and staff I had nice chicken liver and mushrooms and my partner had lentil soup. Generous servings. Coffee was smooth I was a bit disappointed in the Vienna because it was served with whipped cream on top which is not my understanding of Vienna coffee. A year later and the cafe is still good had a nice lunch with family meals all food was good. The coffee was good and finished with some yum Turkish delight. Still recommend cost $$

Heard this was the place to eat. Very impressed , it was absolutely delicious. Full of favour and a great environment. I decided to wonder to the washroom and there was a large coffee roaster tunes out the roast there own beans. Just when I thought I couldn't find better coffee in Auckland I was blown away. Very impressed with the service ad knowledge of the baristas. The place is also very family friendly.stop by you so t be dissponted

Decent cafe with nice interior and decoration, welcoming atmosphere, feel relaxed. Had lunch twice here, the Thai chicken Red Curry was terrible (I can cook better). 2nd time I've read the menu carefully and chose smoked salmon on top of sourdough with salsa (cannot remember its original name, sorry), this was seriously good, double shot flat white was the best coffee I had this during my 3 day stay in Auckland. Will come back with more reviews later.

Food was really good, the hollandaise and home made hash brown were great! My mum also really enjoyed her lambs fry. Staff helpful and friendly!

Such good food, lovely space and vibes and service! Lots of stuff on the menu, and I thought the drinks (as in the alcohol) were much cheaper than what I'm used to!
Amelia Granturco
Best spot for breakfast in epsom/newmarket. Great coffee, yummy food, fast and friendly service. Will be back.
Jason Durey
Great to come back to and old favorite of the family. My livers were really tasty!! We will be back soon.
Tim Carr
Top notch. Friendly staff, warm fire and great food and coffee. The blue cheese creamy mushrooms are seriously excellent and eggs Benedict were perfectly done with bright yellow free range eggs and a hint of pesto. Must try. Well worth it.
Leondra Roberts
I enjoyed a most delicious brunch, the serving was massive and very fulfilling. Also absolutely loved the coffee, the staff and the atmosphere. Will certainly be back to my favourite cafe for more . Thank you ♥️
Steven Farrington
Simply superb. Fire side seating, quality food always well presented, great coffee, but the best thing is the staff. Owner is onsite and has high standards, and it shows in the attentiveness and respectful behaviour of the staff and the speed the food arrives even when busy. I have been visiting Cafe Massimo off and on for nearly a decade and they never disappoint.
Josh Ming
Friendly staff, good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Chicken satay salad is a goodie!
Dan Richards
Fantastic cafe that produces amazing coffee, great service right in the middle of Newmarket. Every time I get a consistently amazing coffee. It's a place to sit down, relax and read the paper with comfortable seats to take time out of your day. Not one of these cafes where Candy Floss is put on granola and has free range peanuts from peru and costs an arm and a leg. Massimo is what a cafe should be. Definitely my favorite cafe.

I am quite picky when it comes to my coffee so I love when I find a place where they can really live up to my expectations. Simply love the place. The staff is amazing, chatting with them really makes my day. Everyone will surely enjoy it 💞💞

Great coffee spot with friendly staff. Always a good experience here. The food is ok, but I like the location on nuffield. They make good coffee too. Service: 4/5 Food Quality: 4/5 Food Quantity: 4/5 Presentation: 3/5 Environment: 4/5 Price per person: $5-$20

Massimo utilizes excellent espresso for its coffee, and I am never disappointed by their service. Some items are overpriced and the atmosphere is overly vacant, despite the fact that they are almost always packed, but such things do not get in the way of my enjoyment of their Caffé Americano. I'll be visiting again tomorrow for my daily caffeine.

I haven't been in years but Massimo's continues to surpass expectations. Quality, care and a warm welcome sum up this quintessential cafe. The Express Breakfast, available weekdays before noon, offers a choice of multigrain toast with poppyseed crust (!) with 3 items to choose from poached eggs, avocado, mushrooms, hashbrown, bacon rasher, etc. At $11.50 I think this is easily the best value breakfast in Auckland! Pair it with a latte bowl of Massimo's superbly house roasted coffee.

Best almond croissant I've ever had. Their service felt very personal and water was brought over just as I finished a delightful coffee. Absolutely stellar!
Darryl Mcleod
Good consistent coffee and meals. The service isn't always the best, but there's usually at least one staff member who rescues your faith. They have a great selection of tasty looking buns too but haven't tried them
George Adam
One of the best cafes in Auckland. Friendly, efficient with great coffee and food. True European vibe and great location.
Courtney Gemmell
I worked here for a few months while travelling. Hardworking family run cafe with friendly staff. Get there early for a blueberry muffin or blueberry pancakes with bacon! I miss them!
Dan Fisher
Iv been going to this cafe for years and the owners are just kind and there staff they have are always great . Best coffee I could ever have and the food don't get me started cause it will make me hungry.

I was there yesterday. Everything was sensational. The Staff were rather friendly. The food was divine. I was so glad to be there. Specifically the hot chocolate was awsome whic was served with hazelnut syrup. It's a great place to chill out. I will definitely come back

I come here daily for a green tea before work. The service is always impeccable and on the odd occasion I get food it's always awesome!
Lauren Lum
Amazing food amazing service will defiantly be back thank you.
Dermot McQuarrie
Delicious breakfast. It was good to get out of the stormy weather and experience expert service. Thank you

For a cafe to be great it first needs amazing coffee - Massimo's roasts it's own so it's always fresh.

You can also buy a bag of freshly roasted beans ground on the spot as you like it...beats that stuff I used to buy in the supermarket.

The owners have been here for years and make sure we always feel welcome. Easy choice when I need a coffee and breakfast.
Scott
My favourite cafe when I’m in Newmarket. The food is great, the chai is always hot (not always the case in many cafes) and the service is great. This is visit number 4 in the last two weeks. Love the chilli and feta scrambled eggs

I came to Massimo for lunch with my brother and found the experience to be very average. The atmosphere was pretty nice, quite a spacious cafe with comfortable seating arrangement. Service was friendly and efficient so that was a huge plus. However, I found that the food was pretty average. My brother got the fettuccine with bacon and I got the Mediterranean dish with lamb, which was the recommended dish on the menu.

Food came out at a pretty quick pace as it wasn’t very busy so that was very good. I found that my dish was average. The thing I liked about it was the 3 slices of Turkish bread that soaked up the combination of tomato sauce, tzatziki and hummus very well. However, I found that the portion of meat was very small even though it was only $19.50 and the salad wasn’t very fresh either. My brother said his fettuccine was average as well, it wasn’t bad but it wasn’t fantastic either.

I might come back for the cabinet food because there were slices of cake (lemon sour cream and Greek coconut cake) I was eyeing the entire time I was there.
Claudia
Yum!! Stumbled across this gem when wandering through the streets of New Market and boy, am I so delighted I found this place. Highlights include the extensive meal choices that had a lot of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern influences, incredible coffee, and great portions, as well as good prices. Cannot complain and will definitely be back. Great to see the owner in there as well!
Ross Clarke
Been coming here regularly for four years now. Service is always very prompt, and food is consistently good quality.

Love this place. Friendly staff really makes my day. I love the fireplace and amazing coffee. Being a picky person when it comes to coffee especially in New Zealand, it wasn't easy to find a place to really enjoy a delicious cup of coffee. Tried their breakfast once.... Yummy!!!!! 💖💖💖 Servings are more than enough for a person with a "normal" appetite 😁😁
The Food Snob
Coffee roasted onsite when I went last, nice staff and good food both menu and cabinet wise. Hard working team who have been there for a long time. A Nuffield st easy to go spot with ur usual cafe fare.
Ria
Love this place, the food and lovely staff. The atmosphere is SO nice with the fireplace in the winter. Coffee is fabulous . They won me over now I look forward to getting my coffee there regularly 👍🙏💯
Damon Pooley
Relaxed friendly atmosphere and good service. The food is very acceptable also. Coffee has great flavour. The furniture is conducive to business meetings and the parking is just across the road at Wilson's.
Frankie
Great friendly staff, go here weekly as work in the area, tasty food and awesome coffee, beautiful warm fire and cozy feels. Would highly recommend :)
Nick Allan
I loved the experience going to Massimo, food was excellent, clean and comfortable venue with lots of room and service was friendly people happy to smile etc. I am a fan (expert in) of iced coffee, and I put the Massimo ice coffee on the top shelf when it comes to the art!!! Cold, well blended, just right sweetness, and served with a smile and left to enjoy it. I will be back!!!!

Their coffee is great! I’ve tried almost cafes in New market and only their coffee didn’t let me down. Aromatic, not sour at all, just perfect!
Sofie Yeung
Coffee a little above average, but the decor is a real let down, might need a little maintenance! A nice cozy place to stop by for a coffee.
DC
Had a lovely (5/5) coffee in a relaxed atmosphere by the fireplace. Definitely recommended. It usually gets pretty busy at the weekends so book or get in early!
Bianca Ratima
Friendly service. Coffee was good, meal were nice but on the smaller side for serving sizes for price. Would go back but not as a first choice.
Vanya Simeonova
This cafe is just the best! Yes sure, probably there are cafes with even better and more sophisticated menu, however the food here has never disappointed me, the coffee is absolutely outstanding - rich and strong, not just a glass full of milk with the memory of coffee in it. I love my coffee and am quite fussy about it. Any request I've had has been welcomed with a smile and executed beautifully. The staff and atmosphere in this place are amazing! Always lovely, always helpful, always accommodating to any requirements. I cannot recommend Massimo enough! Love this place, love the food, the coffee, the people and that fantastic fire place during the winter months has been an absolute treat!
Marti Amos
Outstanding Cafe and service very inviting and a great place to do abit of work as well. Often come here and always a pleasure, food is fantastic along with the coffee will continue to come here. Marti
Beccs
Inviting, cosy place with a fire place nestled along shops on Nuffield St. Small selection of food in cabinet. Coffee a 3/5. Service good enough.

Have been going to Massimos for a few years now.
Cafes in Newmarket come and go but it's clear why Yasin and his friendly staff have been here for over 10 years.
Menu is terrific and the cabinet variety often has new offering which keeps things interesting. The coffee of course is great.
Really happy they have extended their opening hours too.
Medium_Rare
Trained out to New Marke to meet up with with a friend and wanted a place that was close to the station. Having had a spectrum of experiences on Nutfield street ( Cafe Tasca is fabulous while Wagamama is just trash ).

Massimo was fairly busy and when we entered, which looked promising. My friend and I both ordered from the lunch special menu, I had the Nachos and my friend the Chicken Satay Salad.

The Nachos was brilliant. It was perfect for my tastebuds. I liked how sweet the chili mince was. They were also generous with the guacamole. My friend had the Chicken Satay Salad and said it was fine. For 15$ we both agreed that the value wasn't too bad.

Massimo does provide a nice atmosphere, it isn't new and shiny like Cali Express but Massimo provides a rustic charm.

Showstopper: Nachos!

Overall Grade: B

Massimo serves consistently great coffee, with friendly efficient service. Nice muffins and the express breakfasts are an economical option to kick off your day. Plenty of other menu and food cabinet options. Would be good to have the lampshades above the tables emptied of their livestock sometime though.
Shane Arnold
Great spot with parking out the front for convenience. Amazing warm atmosphere with staff that smile and are attentive without being in your space making for a great breakfast. Eggs Benedict have a taste to die for and the coffee is exceptional.
Miss Monkey
Coffee is always made to perfection, I go to Massimo for breakfast every Sunday, the breakfast bowl is amazing. It's really clean, fresh, and nutritious. It comes with little things - smoked salmon, salad, quinoa, hummus, grilled hallumi in a big bowl. Last Sunday I went for a different dish - Pancake. OMG!! This is my new favourite. It is fluffy, not too sweet, and very very light. It supposed to come with bacon but I changed to hallumi - I drizzled the maple syrup over hallumi and it was devine. and the mocha mascapone goes perfectly with the pancakes. We ended up ordering another pancake because it was that light and yummmmm. Their service is greatand staff are very friendly. highly recommended!
Hangrygirl
Big breakfast was not big at all. You get the smallest serving of baked beans and wasn’t worth $23 at all. Also, the REGULAR coffee cup is the same as a small anywhere else.
LilMSunshine
Great location, great vibe and gourmet selection of food. Always busy and a bit of delay in orders. I ordered coffee and slice which took about 30 minutes to serve. Small tables to cater more customers. Coffee and slice was good....so would love to come back to try their sandwiches next time.
Anna Faber
I had such a wonderful experience here after a bootcamp workout session. The Breakfast bowl is to die for, all the best quality ingredients and the taste is wonderful. The staff are also very friendly and helpful, and the owner is lovely.
Angela Soh
Good food and excellent service. The owner Yasin serves the guests himself and he is lovely. Been a few times and he remembers faces. Great location and easy to get to.
Lauren Lum
Amazing service from the staff and amazing food lovely setting as well perfect for lunch was very impressed will defiantly be back! I had the Benedict have never had it with pesto before and the way they have created is very yummy

Ordered the Massimo Beef Burger w/ Fries. Generously sized burger, didn't wow me but I still enjoyed it. Could've done with more fries, but then again I just really love fries. Staff were warm and friendly, and the place itself is in a great spot in Newmarket, almost hidden away yet still near the action. Sat here for a while working on my laptop on a quiet afternoon, lovely ambiance, will return again when in the area.
Aimee.
We got the express breakfast. I got avocado dip, mushrooms and hash brown for only $10. (Vegan). However my friend got the same as me with extra eggs and it was still only $10 for her so hers was more worth it. The fries were generous and well seasoned with different sauces. The waitress constantly topped up our water and was attentive and polite. Super convenient location too.

Loved this desert - was nothing left on the plate so lucky l took a photo of it 🙃 l think they might be doing take away as well so its worth giving it a go 🤪
Heidi
Delicious and huge portions!! I ordered the pancakes which were very good! The bacon and fruits were a great addition and the fruit taste so fresh!!

What a hidden gem! Theres not many good places to go in Newmarket for a great breakfast but Massimo ticks all the boxes!
Stumbled across this cafe one morning whilst searching for a good honest big breakfast with work colleagues.. What a find, this is now my go to in Newmarket GREAT food with lovely staff and a nice atmosphere to relax in front of the fire with a glass of wine! A highly recommended spot!
Truce Arcane
Amazing! I really love this place. Definitely a great choice for breakfast or lunch if your in the area Food is top notch and the service is excellent, worth a 5 star review thats for sure.
Teara Levy
Food was very yummy but what made it even greater was the service, it was although the place was packed. We had multiple mains, smoothies and coffees and all were good.
Clyde Toelupe
Every time I come in they take such good care of me. The staff are incredible and the food is amazing! Truly would recommend this place to anyone near or far.
Casey Persson
I've been here several times and absolutely love it. Massimo is the perfect embodiment of a traditional cafe. The coffee drinks are strong and rich. The food and juices are tasty. Most importantly, the service is superb. The staff is friendly and will get to know the regulars. They make sure your water is full and brings anything you need out to you. The place is clean and cozy. I love the fireplace, which seems to be too warm for many, so my fireside seat is always available! This place has the perfect formula that keeps me coming back.

Massimo in Newmarket was our choice for brunch and so we arrived prepared with a grab one voucher looking for a couple of tasty main meals. The ambiance is pleasant with a cosy fire. Our meals were nice enough and we were pleased enough, had better but definately decent. Sadly their coffee did let them down, we don't normally return coffees but both went back. Having said this the staff were apologetic, attentive and not defensive which I was impressed by. In place of the coffee I had a chai latte and my wife had a tumeric latte which were both excellent. All said it was a good experience, good staff good food...but guys u gotta just get that coffee nailed down!
Mercan Kazankiran
I have been a customer at Massimo for so long. They do great job. First of all they make amazing coffee as well as their food is also fantastic. I also love their customer service. Highly recommended place have coffee, breakfast and quick bite.
Katie Koerber
My partner and I come here almost every Sunday. Love the food, love the coffee, love the people! We like to try out different breakfast places around Auckland and every time we go somewhere new we wish we had just gone to Massimo! ✌🏻
Richard Lambert
This is my favourite cafe in Newmarket. I love this place for it's GREAT coffee, relaxed, warm vibe and the delicious food. The staff here are always super friendly and efficient and they make dropping by the cafe a pleasure anytime. I must also mention the coffee again...it is excellent and by far the best in the area! Cafe Massimo also has a very yummy savoury muffin...but you have to get in quick each day as it so popular! Hmm I am already savouring the thought of another one! And a coffee of course!
Diana
This place is awesome - not only is all the food totally delicious, but the man who makes the coffee is suburb! Cafe Massimo in Newmarket has a great team of staff and a lovely manager, who all work hard to look after you.

I frequent this café often and usually have scrambled eggs with chill and feta (a must try) and I will keep coming back to sample more dishes. There is a vast array of cabinet food options, such as yummy salads, savouries and hearty sandwiches as well a large menu. Another important thing to mention is that the coffee is very good here, along with their sweet treats! The café is very spacious and in winter they have the fire going, making it cozy and warm. I highly recommend this café to anyone who is looking for fantastic food, top staff and a great dining experience.
CrazyCatLady_EmmaC
Great place for weekend brunch, good range of choice for food and drinks. Friendly staff and interesting decoration. There are plenty of street parking and 2 big car parks near by.
Ashleigh Michelle
Got the Grab One deal for Massimo and found it good value for money. We both ordered the Hash browns for breakfast and really enjoyed them, I only wish it was bigger! Our meals came out very quickly. Staff were attentive and polite.
S&G Take Auckland
I came in here today to had breakfast. They had a delicious special which included a breakfast option and a drink for $12! I was able to change my drink to tea which was ideal. The servers here were extremely attentive and lovely! The breakfast was well worth the price, it was nice to have a cosy seat next to the heater.
Iris Iris
Good lunch place, tried different dishes, quite liked all of them. Service is friendly and quick! Little fire place inside makes it cozy especially when it is cold outside :)
Franhorsman
Just so love my coffee here every morning, such friendly staff, great selection of food and they open so early.
Many regulars keep it up Massimo .
OldGoatsKnowBest
A few of us dropped by for the first time. Nicely sized to assure a seat. Well positioned for both drivers and those on foot. Enjoyable surroundings. Strong, powerfully flavoured coffee. The in-house coffee bean roasting facility dominating the rear of the cafe is mildly reminiscent of a steam punk convention. Sadly, a little disappointed with the meagre selection of teas - the solitary acceptable choice was unavailable - run out we were told. So one at our table stuck to water whilst the others sampled the coffee.
Donna&Shane
I popped in here for a quick bite/brunch .. the homemade hash brown with bacon and hollandaise (on the side) sounded yum. I sat outside as it was warm inside with the fire going... food came out quickly. The hash brown is like a crispy potato rosti defiantly homemade and yum. One egg was runny the other one not. Would prefer spinach with it but It filled the spot.
Patrick Tong
Came here at about 10ish while waiting for my car being fixed nearby. Ordered Mocha, and Creamy Mushroom. I like the way they put the smiling face. Not a lot café do that. About the Creamy Mushroom. 1 or 2 Mushroom was still a bit crunchy. Too little sauce. Can't taste the blue cheese as described in the menu.

Having said that. The cabinet food all looks very attractive. While I was there, saw that they made their own salad fresh, which is a very good sign..
CJ
Have enjoyed my lunch visits here. Customer service was very lovely. Came here with a friend and then again with family. Both times we were treated with the same lovely service. The food is good - nicely cooked, well presented. The coffee is great. Smoothies were excellent too. Will be back with more friends to try out more of their menu.
Where To Next Auckland
This is a great place to grab a bite if you're in Newmarket! With a varied menu for breakfast and lunch you're sure to find something to feed you're hunger. Grab a window seat and take in the vibes of Nuffield Street. Have you seen their cabinet? Lots of amazing treats to satisfy any sweet tooth! Our pick? Grab a hot chocolate and anyone of their cookies.
Vicki Ko
Came here for breakfast with some friends. The service wasn't very good, waitress seemed a little rude really. Food was good, nothing spectacular. Just the average bacon eggs bene, I did like that they had spinach and bacon, not many cafes have both, only one or the other. The feijoa apple smoothie was quite nice though.
BarbaYani
Fantastic place, nice food with warm and friendly service. It is an owner operated place and, seems like, this dude has twin brother as his always there :)
Stephy_NakiGirl
Haven't been here in years but needed an early breakfast & they are open before 7am.
Great to see that service is as good as ever - quiet but very polite & efficient.
Water delivered to the table - great to see as many cafes don't bother with this now & its a nice touch.
Ordered a latte - well made, strong but not burnt.
Also the eggs bene with bacon. Bacon perfectly crispy & delicious, eggs well poached. Also comes with spinach.
Don C
Served with a smile, and quickly. Ordered a Massimo Breakfast plate, good amount on it, though the mild chizoro was actually quite spicy, a touch more than what I would have described as mild, and also only one small pat of butter had been placed on the top piece of toast, which meant the second piece of toast couldn't end up with any! The coffee was a medium roast, not burnt so it was actually quite nice. My wife had a fish dish for her brunch, which was well cooked, and tasted great too. The spiced hot chocolate had a light touch of spices which she quite enjoyed also.
Jing Kha
Great quality ingredients. Very tasty. The cheese in the lamb salad was very fresh and the lamb was very tender. I was very impressed and enjoyed every bite of the meal.
Aimee R
Have been here a handful of times and love it! Staff are very attentive but not overbearing and service is quick but not rushed. I order the all day breakfast menu items and they come out within 10 minutes of ordering. The food is awesome - the best brunch/lunch I've had in Newmarket so will definitely be back :)
Jojo B
So yummy!! My boyfriend and I were looking to go out for breaky and needed somewhere central and open at 0730 in the morning! This was our stop. Such nice staff! Served fast and good amounts of food. I had the lemon pancakes and woweeee I couldn't even finish them but were so delicious! Good amount of berries and bananas. Was so nice to find a place open so early! Thank you we will be back! Xx
Bryn Morgans
Great service friendly staff who are genuinely interested in how your day is going. The new breakfast menu is something definitely worth trying.
Oliver Such
Awesome spot. Great coffee, amazing breakfast. Would recommend to anyone. I generally get a long black and their big breakfast and they near perfect every time
Shabbir Gin
Awesome place to go have a coffee by the fireplace on a cold winter morning, excellent service and very reasonably priced food. Savoury scones are a treat.
Nicole Jana
Came here for brunch on Sunday morning, moccacino was made perfectly, ordered the homemade hash browns with bacon, delicious! Would highly reccomend the homemade hash browns. Waitresses very attentive and food was brought out at a reasonable pace. The interior is nice and spacious and bright, will come back again. Italian guy asked us how the food was, I am not sure if he is the owner or not but very friendly and nice to chat to.
Abbie Louise Dingle
Ordered the bacon avocado and tomato bagel. Firstly it didn't look particularly good - a small slightly burnt bagel with a tiny pot of cream cheese - and the avocado was brown, with old looking tomato slices. I asked if it would be possible to have some lettuce to make it into a BLAT however the staff did not understand what I was asking (on two separate occasions) - and when a third staff member came over they said it would be $9 for a side salad - so I gave up. I left more than half of the meal, the bacon didn't taste good (had to spit some into my serviette that tasted suspiciously like fish), the whole thing was just really sub-standard for what it cost. The coffee was good but wouldn't come here again!
Di
I came here yesterday at lunch time, it was quite full. I had the pan fried chicken livers with poached egg, spinach, bacon, and mushrooms. I thought the flavour was good, but a little bit salty.
HJ
This popular cafe on Nuffield street is a great place for anyone wanting a quick bite from the cabinet or from the menu.

The service was very good during our lunch time visit. We were greeted upon arrival and water was brought to us as soon as we took a seat - just what we needed on a hot day! The menu has a great variety of breakfast and lunch options, however majority of them are priced slightly on the higher side.

The Fluffy blueberry pancakes were fresh, hot and fluffy as the name suggests. The fruit salad in Passionfruit yoghurt dressing (straight from the cabinet) was delicious. The apple and fejoia smoothie is a must for all fejoia fans!

I am a very regular visitor to Massimo's, 30+ visits of dining in for breakfast or lunch, or just a lazy coffee.

I keep coming back for these reasons:

*The ambiance in the restaurant is always very pleasant, even when it is completely full, it doesn't feel overcrowded. It is brightly lit with natural light, and the inside flows to the sidewalk when the frontage is opened up.
*The food is always well presented, and very rarely would I get a sub-standard (using my standards) meal. The menu has a nice mix of seafood dishes, salads, and a brunch range. The lamb salad or the chicken and prawn salad are great clean options for lunch. There is a decent stock of cabinet food for takeaway too.
*The service is always warm and friendly, and they ensure that their regulars are valued.
*Coffee is nice, they roast their own - worth picking up a bag of their coffee beans for home too.

If you can get it, there are two lazy lounge seats next to a fireplace near the entrance, a nice spot to hang with a friend.

For me, they lose half a star because the menu doesn't change - no new interesting additions, or seasonal dishes. They lose another half star, which is probably a bit mean of me, but they close at 5pm, so no options for dinner or to enjoy the evening Newmarket buzz.
Irish Eyes
Lovely ambience all year. In summer the leafy trees shade the outside tables and in winter the fire is like a warm magnet.
It is fairly spacious and in a wonderful location providing a welcome respite from the shops!
Consistently good coffee but this morning the service was slow and the breakfasts ordered were adequate but certainly not exceptional. My poached eggs were not very hot and were served on a cold plate. However the Eggs Benedict was rated as "superb" by a fellow diner. Because of this the previous rating has been increased from 3.5 to 4.
An enjoyable start to a relaxing Sunday. Worth a visit.
Louise MacNaughton
Another consistently good spot in Newmarket. Good lunch specials and a MASSIVE brunch menu. The same guy has been here for years and he genuinely seems passionate about his cafe.

Last few times I've been here there has been a few staffing issues - rude staff or miscommunication with orders and coffees, but it is usually resolved quickly and peacefully.

Food is good, decent portion sizes and a wide array of cabinet food.
Matt Tieu
Had an excellent breakfast on the morning of the rwc final win. The eggs Benedict was fantastic and quick fast service early in the morning.
A
Had a coffee and blueberry muffin- they were ok. Nothing spectacular. Great location. Staff were friendly. I would go back to try a meal :)
Kathy Xu
The staff are super friendly and welcoming and the food and drinks are really good so my friends and I always find ourselves here after shopping, the gym or school. The iced coffees are amazing as are the blueberry pancakes. In the afternoons they have a deal that is $6 (ish) for a coffee and a slice/muffin. There's also a lunch special which is $13.50 (or something close to that) and there are many different options (including nachos, steak sandwiches, salads, pasta) to choose from.
Sumner Elliott-Moore
Very nice. Went here for breakfast with my boyfriend, I ordered French toast and it was so yum! Lots of cinnamon which was tastey!
Shame about the decor though, I feel they can do a lot better with the space/walls
LuciferTSN
Loved the thought of putting a smiley face on the coffee Oder. Just made my day. The big breakfast was average, nothing too fancy. Loved the outdoor tablets which is great for summer catch ups.
Katrina Dodge
Brought my dad and family here for Father's Day brunch and this place holds high standards. Great food, quick service and a great, warm, family vibe from the staff. I had a burger while others had the pancakes, Massimo breakfast, vegetarian breakfast and the eggs bene and there was not a single complaint! I have been here before and had the French toast which was also amazing. 100% would return!

Massimo makes very nice coffee and hot chocolate. The displayed counter has some eye catching desserts and the Eggs Benedict is cool. Ambience is superb. Will go again.

One of my favs in Newmarket every visit has been amazing both service and food! Never disappoints ever and will continue to go especially for good old eggs benny!
C & J
Strolling down New Market, We decided to try Massimo. J was craving mushrooms so he ordered the creamy mushroom. I ordered the homemade hashbrowns with mushrooms. Service was welcoming and friendly. The food came out quite fast and was nicely presented. Absolutely delicious and satisfied J's craving. The creamy mushroom had a generous portion of mushrooms and the homemade hashbrowns were crispy on the outside with poached eggs cooked to perfection. Great experience at Massimo. Will be back for the mushrooms!

If you refer to the photos, it is needless to say that I am now a regular.
Massimo is a great cafe. They serve wonderful food in a wonderful atmosphere. The staff are friendly and efficient.
The burger is a classic here and the portion size is generous. I absolutely love the chocolate shake and feijoa & apple smoothie, so good.

Overall, great place to dine :)

We visited with our 1.5 year old today and while they did not have a kids menu, they were more than happy to adapt the pancakes for our son. And we got to finish them off for him. Yum! Some of the best pancakes we have had. Big breakfast was good and the scrambled eggs were nicely done, good grain bread too. Coffee and smoothies weren't too bad either.

My friend ordered the corn fritter eggs benedict but she got poached eggs on english muffins instead. However apology was offered and dish remade. The corn fritter tasted rubbery and not very well seasoned. My spinich and lemon risotto was not cooked properly and the rice was still semi hard and the grilled fish on top was a strange combination to the dish. The fish tasted very fishy and again the dish was not very well seasoned. The turkish apply tea tasted like hot apple juice!

Nice ambiance mainly accredited to being located on the pleasant Nuffield Street.. We ordered 2 Corned Eggs Benedict for brunch that was served quickly which was great and well presented but then a complete let down on the taste.... The yolk was overdone and ruined the entire taste of a perfect Eggs Benedict ... The corn fritters were too dry for my liking. This was not at all worth the $20 that I paid for this meal. I did let the waitress know but it didn't seem like it made much of a difference and not sure if the message was passed on.
Overall a bit disappointed. .. Not sure if the food is actually worth coming back for.

Visited here for a takeaway salad and coffee on my break and found them both satisfying. The staff were generally quite friendly, although when I was waiting at the counter for my coffee, a waitress quite abruptly asked me what I was doing. Would like to try their menu food some day. Overall there was a nice relaxed atmosphere for such a busy place.

Wasn't anything great from the street, in fact we tossed up going next door. But we were pleasantly surprised by amazing coffee and friendly fast service. We both had a generous serving of delicious corn fritters. Would seriously recommend the hot chocolate. Only downfall was the lack of interesting décor

Pretty good place, nothing too adventurous but does what it does well enough. Spacious interior and usually pretty busy which can be nice. Overall a nice place for a cuppa coffee or brunch.

Brunch | Sunday 7th August 2011 |
Superb coffee! The food was good but the hollandaise could have been a little more tangy but the rest of the dish was good. Our meals did take a while to arrive (20-30 minutes for our brunch) but the restaurant was full. The staff were extra friendly and attentive. Overall a good experience and we would go back. It seemed to be the only place in Takapuna that was full and 'buzzing'.

My partner and I visited on our way up north for a wee holiday and had eggs bene and the creamy mushrooms, the portion sizes were very generous, the eggs poached perfectly but i was most impressed with the creamy mushrooms.

It was so good that we stopped in again on our way back to Auckland and got another delicious and generous serving of the creamy mushrooms and a mushroom steak for the man!

Once again, delicious food, great service.

Highest compliments to the chef!
