The place is amazing with enough space to cater for probably 100 people inside, the outside looks super nice but the weather was unpredictable. Had a beautiful dinner with my family recently. Food was amazing, unfortunately they forgot to serve my niece her meal with ours, but they made up for it with a few free drinks and her food came out after a couple minutes.

Background :
We initially had wedding booked here to be held in the upper gazebo with the old owner. The new owner took over on 1st December 2017.
What happened :
The new owner failed to mention that he did not purchase the upper gazebo from the old owner. He only mentioned it when he had to after we rejected his attempt at trying to push us into using the lower gazebo.
I contacted him 1st of December when he took over to sort the above issue out via email. By 31 of December, the issue was still not sorted. During the intervening period, I visited him 2 or 3 times attempting to sort the issue out. Each time, I had to leave empty handed as he failed to confirm the use of upper gazebo.
He seemed to blame the old owner for this and asked me to personally it sort out with the old owner claiming that, by his words, not his problem. On 29th December 2017, I was able to convince the new and old owner to meet on 30th to give me a reply on 31st December. However, he failed, once again, to contact me with the result of the meeting. Considering how uncertain the availability of the venue was, we were forced to cancel.
Recommendation :
In short, I can not recommend this place for wedding bookings.
Note to people with existing booking, make sure he is aware of your contract. I had to email him, at his request, my contract. Make sure that you have use of the upper gazebo if you had planned to use that area. Make sure you have use of the car park.

Now it looks like wedding has to change venues at last minute. I had my wedding here on Feb 17, and it was just everything I wanted and much more! the venue covers beautiful gardenscapes with ponds, tropical greenery, and gazebos making it one of Auckland's most photogenic wedding venues. The property is also just 15mins drive away from Muriwai making it convenient for couples to hop down for a nice sunset beach shot.

I went again on Saturday and had the most lovely lunch. I ordered the pork belly and my daughter the spare ribs - both cooked to perfection falling off the bone. I also ordered the lamb shanks and the smoked chicken and bacon pesto fettuccine to take away. The friendly staff had no issues in accommodating such a request. I was impressed by the sealed bag they put the shank in to keep it fresh.

Scallops shouldn’t be half raw. Not these ones anyways as they are not sashimi grade. Got a little sick. Shouldn’t use sweet chilli as well as that’s just lazy. I loved this place 15 years ago for its normal and enjoyable food, ambiance and unusual (for a standard restaurant) decor. It just attracted me more. So coming back for our anniversary, after so long I was thrilled it’s just as I remembered. Great food, Not modernized to a white unfriendly, snooty big plate teenie weeny portion type of place with no character! Awsome keep it up guys! we will definitely be back.

My husband and I recently had lunch at Settlers Country Manor, we hadn't been to the restaurant for a long so was nice to visit again. The gardens and out door area are beautiful and the restaurant inside is nice. We had good service and there was plenty of selection on the menu. The food was nice and enjoy a pleasant quiet lunch. We would like to come back and try dinner with a few friends, plenty of space for a bigger dining party.

This is one of my all time favourite all of AKL.Hospitable and friendly staff. Service, view and food are top notch . Such a pleasurable experience dining here. We dined here as a family of 4, including one child (11) on a Thursday night.<br/><br/>The food was delicious, portions decent, came quickly and was piping hot.<br/><br/>The ambiance of the place itself is also charming, with genuine antique pieces all over, lovely reproduction furniture and a historic building and setting.<br/><br/>Decent selection of wine and other beverages including house beer on tap. Outside are beautiful gardens which are worth a wander.<br/><br/>However, the presentation of the food was unimaginative to say the least, my rib entree for example was literally just ribs dumped in a bowl with sauce, and the service, while friendly and efficient, could be more "polished".<br/><br/>There was some random guy just hanging around by the bar while we dined, chatting to the waitress, juggling a salt shaker (noisily) burning incense and goodness knows what, which was a bit offputting. Granted, we were the only patrons, but it did nothing to enhance the dining experience. If it had been busier this might not have been as distracting.<br/><br/>Parking is across the road, the gravel is not properly graded, and so it was muddy and wet. Not ideal if you're dressed up for dinner (or a wedding at the adjoined venue).<br/><br/>At the price and given the beautiful location, a few tweaks could make this a 5 star experience.<br/><br/>Verdict: If you love a well cooked steak or game, great food but nothing "fancy", and don't mind things being a little "casual" despite the price - Gamekeepers is great. It's just a shame that a few little things let it down overall.

Absolutely fantastic food! Great portions, fresh, warmly served ! We also had cocktails and they were delicious ! All in all superb hospitality !!! In addition to this the ambience and interior of the restaurant is very welcoming, creative and refined rustic, that honours the heritage of the historic premises. The staff warmly greeted us every single time we have been there, which makes it even more so a personable experience dining at the Game Keepers Restaurant . Highly recommended !

Went here for drinks the other night on a random drive. Really cool hunting lodge look (stag heads and leather seats). We only had drinks as had already eaten. Cocktail special so only $10 each and really nice. I had a chai latte, nicely spiced and hot (good on a cold night). We would be back for food and wine another time as the ambience was great. <br/>Service was a bit slow though (even though only half full) and they nearly overcharged me for drinks until I checked.

What a disappointment!!!! Mean portions for our main courses and no imagination. The vegetables looked like <br/>a very young child had cut them up not an experienced chef like you would expect.Chowder looked and tasted like it had come out of a tin, again no garnishes.The bread beside the soup was the crust, not expecting that! Corkage $20 a bit excessive compared to other local restaurants !Complained to Front of house guy but he didn’t seem too concerned so definitely won’t be revisiting!

If your after huge portions of top notch food, it’s definitely worth the drive out to Waimauku to visit the Game Keeper. I have now dined here on two occasions, once for a friends birthday in a group of 6 & once with my partner on a date night. The Game Keeper is nestled around the back of Settlers Manor amongst beautiful grounds, there is plenty of outdoor seating in the picturesque courtyard when the weathers warm, the interior has a rather medieval theme which is a little dated but at the same time it’s quite cute. The selection of food is large & there’s great variety on the menu. On both occasions I had the eye fillet with vegetables & peppercorn sauce. I can honestly say they do one of the steaks I’ve eaten! The portions are also extremely generous, the cut of beef was decent & you get two sides of vegetables, one on your main plate & one as a side. Service is also pretty good & pricing is fair for the quality of food. I will be back for sure!

I was disappointed that our dinner party of 14 were going to get charged $50 to take our birthday cake.The other option was if we ordered 5 deserts at 12.50 each we then wouldn't get charged to have the cake.Good p/a with patrons will help get business especially that we were locals.Regarding the meals the entrees were good.The chicken was dry,No crispy pork crackling on the pork belly.The steak was enjoyed by those that ordered it.

My wife and 2 daughters dined at the gamekeeper last night,parking was a little confusing to begin with but not really an issue at all.We all loved the ambiance of the restaurant AND as previously mentioned only one staffmember running the whole restaurant.what an absolutely amazing!! job she did and that was approximately 8 tables averaging 4 to 6 people on a Saturday night!! ,I mean SHE was Concierge,Drinks Waiter,Barman,Waitress and Cashier and did not make one mistake ,I am still gobsmacked.Now to the meal,We had the garlic bread,ham & veg soup,tomatoe soup,schnitzel,chicken compote,fillet mignon,apple crumble and creme brulee,From the bread to the brulee every dish was still timely delivered and extremely well presented and perfectly cooked and very delicious.I very highly recommend this restaurant

My fiance and I held our Engagement Party at Settlers on the 10th of November inside the Gamekeepers Lodge. Prior to the function, we came in numerous times to talk with Rob to make sure everything went according to plan on the night. He was very accommodating and is a lovely man! On the night, the venue looked stunning!!! <br/><br/>My fiance came in earlier with a few friends and helped set everything up. We had one fabulous woman, I think her name was Missy, looking after us the entire night and she was such a trooper! We were told we would have more than one person looking after us but the other girl called in sick and there was also a wedding next door (which we didn't hear a peep from) but Missy was just great at looking after us. <br/><br/>Everybody loved the venue and the food, I would highly recommend Settlers as the best venue in West Auckland! Especially since it's also the most affordable!!!
