Review Brick By Brick - Auckland Central

Upon arrival, greeted by the wonderful FOH staff who were very friendly and helpful, the customer service was exceptional which I don’t understand why they got bad reviews in the past, glad we had the nicest girls serving us. The food was very delicious and was fairly priced In terms of competition in the area. I would definitely recommend coming to this great cafe. Thanks guys

The ice coffee was one of the best in Auckland my hubby has tried. He had asked for his steak medium rare and it came well done. I liked the hot chocolate, my eggs bene on sourdough was delicious. I loved the touch or beetroot sauce. It was packed with many different flavours, which were great but it drowned the hollandaise flavour.

Following a boozy night out in the city, we ended up at Brick By Brick for a much needed brunch to reorient ourselves. Staff was very attentive and the seasonal menu was very impressive. We ordered the BBB omelette, steak and chips and the Japanese calamari with a side of scrambled eggs with coffees and a smoothie. The food was absolutely delicious and exactly what the doctor ordered! Highly recommended!

Always have great experience there, not only beautiful food and drinks but also great service. Cozy cafe next to a small park which provide enough space for kids play outside.

Stopped by on a busy ANZAC day, nonetheless staff were very helpful and the order came out surprisingly quickly. Eggs Benedict is good and artfully presented. Ample room both inside and out.

Pleasantly surprised by breakfast from Uber Eats Restaurant Brick by Brick. I thought it would have been warm but it was hot and definitely a big breakfast I couldn't eat alone! Coffee was perfect made with almond milk. My only regret was ordering small instead of large. I'll definitely be back again.

A group of 7 of us enjoyed a quick breakfast after parkrun at Cornwall Park, 4 of our group were locals and the remaining 3 were from the GC and Sydney. Overall, it was a good dining experience, the prices were below to average, and the food quality was excellent, albeit slightly on the small side compared to other cafes we have visited. I'm not a coffee drinker but everyone else who had coffees said they were great, I had a smoothie which was good but it needed more body to feel filling.

Nice to have a place in Onehunga not right on the road nor squeezed btwn places. B by B is spacious and airy, with a few couch areas too. You can sit outside on the green and see the old art decor town clock and its garden. A playground is also across the green for the older kids. Staff are welcoming and food good.

We love it here! Been coming for years and the place just gets better and better. The coffee is great, and the brunches are awesome. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We come as a couple, with younger family members and when whanau come visiting we bring them here. Parking is easy and the reserve and play park across the way are lovely. Very reccommend.

Just got home and very hungry, so ordered a late lunch from them. I went around to pick it up and it was ready (very prompt). The food was very nice, warm and fresh. I will definitely return there again. Highly recommended.

Been going here for years. Nice asian fusion food options for bunch. Plenty of parking in the nearby reserve carpark. Decent sized interior eating, spacious.

Great place, friendly attentive staff. Fast service. Food is tasty. I had the jerk chicken, amazing flavour! On the menu it reads served with seasoned potatoes but it came with stock standard fried wedges, which is fine but I was disappointed only cos I was looking forward to and expecting seasoned potato prepared from scratch. But we all loved the food and flavours. Recomend.

Just the best, super food and the best coffee, and tin Tac's Park adds a restful place if you wish to eat out side...... my favourite is the Eggs Bene.

Two weeks ago my partner and I dropped by this cafe by accident and we couldn’t believe how beautiful our experience was. We came back next week and guess what - no disappointment! Now it became our prime cafe where we can be 100% sure we’ll have scrumptious food, fresh bakery and robust coffee. It isn’t fancy but cozy, staff is always friendly and the service is tentative. This cafe is a real gem and I am happy we had discovered that!

Went yesterday, yum yum yum, portions were good as well.

We never come back this cafe ever. Waited really long til the food coming, and my partner had japanese lunch set, and there is a bug in a miso soup. She completely lost her appetite. And the waiter said we just give you a discount for miso soup which is 2dollar that she claimed for. We were supposed to enjoying the lunch, we really regreated to come here.

Great food and great service !! Would highly recommend it !!

We frequent this place and absolutely love it - top coffee; great service and food is fabulous
Alex Drover
I would have given them excellent but the Big Breakfast had chips and hash brown, hash browns are quite sufficient and there were no mushroom or beans. Nice big pots of tea!!

Too slow to serve foods and one of my workmates got the wrong meal. My hubby ordered well done steak but served medium rare I ordered calamari but not really happy 10 pcs of calamari s too small with too much spring mix lettuce 😔

This is a sleepy little cafe in onehunga that is okay but unfortunately nothing special.

The place is tidy but lacks a bit of personality. Unfortunately it has no real distinguishing features within the aesthetic of the place. The space is clean and tidy but a bit sparse and lifeless. This is a shame because the outside is quite cool and fresh, however, the inside does not continue this theme.

The staff are very friendly, but in my case the service was a little slow. I have only been here once, so I'm hoping it isn't this slow regularly.

The food was nothing special. I got the fish and chips and unfortunately the batter was verging on burnt. Overall the dish was nothing great.

Overall this place is fine, but doesn't excite me. The staff are friendly and the food okay. Unfortunately I don't think I will be rushing back to this one.

Comfortable and chill cafe in Onehunga. Seemed like a long wait for our food. Staff were very friendly. Order at the counter and not table service however they were quick to bring us water as soon as we sat down. My husband didnt like his big breakfast, he thought everything was over cooked and hard. I enjoyed my steak, egg and chips.

Discovered Brick by Brick by chance today as other usual cafes had closed. What a great surprise to find Bricks. Great location with outlook onto a pleasant park and gardens. Cappuccino coffee (Allpress) was very well done. Good crema and taste. Excellent savoury muffins. Last but not least - very pleasant welcoming staff.
Toilets were clean and well presented. Will definitely be back before long.

Really good location in onehunga, environment is very nice and bright. Cafe clean and looks big. Service really good and food taste delicious too. Good place to have a breakfast with family.

I came here for the first time for a meeting. The staff were friendly and provided great service. A staff member asked to take a drink order upon arrival which I was definitely in need of. I ordered the Classic Big Brekkie - delish. The cafe has a chill vibe

Friendly with good food. Had the bacon and omelet on toast. Very big dish but worth it. Coffee was just 10/10. Prices were reasonable too.

Would definitely come back 👌

Simply the best Cafe in the Onehunga area, the cappuccino was well made n the breakfast servings were generous and really tasty. Highly recommended.
Therese
Had bacon and eggs on toast. Delicious. Their chai latte was lovely. I will definitely eat breakfast here again. The cakes are still average. I buy my cake at the cheesecake shop then go drink a latte at brick by brick.

A nice cafe, the food was decent though they forgot to add bacon to my meal as requested so I had to wait a bit longer. The service was so slow that we thought we had to order at the counter (and it wasn't that busy). Turns out there is table service but you'll have to wait a while ;-) huge coffees. They didn't bring water either, when I went to get some from the counter they gave me a bottle and said sorry they'd forgotten to give it to us

Hands down the best breakfast I’ve had in Auckland so far. I ordered the big breaky from the menu, the whole meal was fantastic but the sausages and hash browns in particular were awesome, lovely and crispy. I also had a soy latte that was very nice! Staff are very friendly and warm. Well done to your chefs and your waiting staff :)

Wife and I had Saturday brunch here a week ago. Overall the quality of food was good and the service was excellent.I had the best ice coffee I have had in Auckland (and I have tried it at a lot of cafes in the past), and this was definitely the highlight. The food was made with good quality ingredients and everything tasted great. The only issue I had was with my steak which was closer to a medium well than the medium rare I ordered. Apart from that, it was an excellent meal.

Great underrated place for breakfast! We were served promptly and food was great. My partner and I ordered pancakes and French toast and we were both pleased with our meals. Will now be our go to breakfast spot!

Good variety of breakfast menu, good setting of the restaurant, attentive staff and served us water once seated but the service was a little slow. We tried their smoked salmon eggs Benedict, creamy mushrooms, kid’s bacon & egg and ham & cheese sandwich with apple and kumara chips, iced mocha and iced coffee. However, the creamy mushroom and the eggs Benedict were just average. I wasn’t able to get the taste of the Hollandaise sauce, perhaps under seasoned.

Great location. Good coffee. Friendly staff who are keen to remember their regular customers orders. I pitch up with my laptop regularly for a few hours work or business meetings and feel welcome every time.

We were served water as soon as we sat down. Our orders were taken quickly and the food was served equally as fast.

They have an option where you can have your hot beverages served by the bowl, which is huge.

The menu has all your usual cafe items with an addition of some Japanese dishes and Asian inspired salads.

The chicken was very tasty and tender but the highlight was the dressing on the side salad. I liked how they served both smoked salmon and spinach as an option with their eggs Benedict. I also like how you can choose to have toast or croquettes. The eggs were poached nicely but the hollandaise sauce needed a bit more flavour.

Spacious and clean cafe. Options for outdoor seating.

I ordered the BLAT with an extra egg and I loved it! I particular like the bun as it was nice and soft and tasted great! My bf ordered the steak, eggs and chips which I didn't try but the steak was more on the medium cooked side rather than medium rare. The chips that came with both our meals were good too though I do wish it came with aioli rather than tomato sauce! Overall the place had a a nice atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and fast! I wouldn't mind coming back for another BLAT! :)

Good service with friendly staff. We found the 2 large flat whites, the lamb burger and the Tofu salad which had a decent amount of tofu, at $40 very good value for money.
Jane Saunders
Had breakfast here. Both our dishes were nice. However we left feeling still hungry and bought something from bakery next door to fill our stomachs. Coffees here were nice. Service is nice and friendly

Probably one of my favorite places to come in the morning during weekend especially if it's sunny. Great food and beverages. Coffee is always great and I never had a single cup which weren't to my taste. Highly recommend.

Visited Brick by Brick on Saturday morning and it was packed. Parking was relatively easy to find though.
Nice warm welcome from the start. The coffees were great-especially the latte, really smooth and creamy. Amazing service, even better food. My partner ordered big brekkie and and I ordered creamy mushrooms with bacon.
Our food came in 15 mins which we were surprised with, considering how busy it was.
Both the meals were Delicious. The balance was perfect and the serving was massive.

Highly recommend, can't wait to come back!

This cafe is one of my favourite place for breakfast and lunch, they have amazing lunch options and serve all day breakfast- eggs benedict which I like the most.

VIsited Cafe with my partner today and it was busy, service was prompt and very friendly.
My flat white Coffee was delicious and my partner enjoyed her hot chocolate, Overall a good family atmosphere a must visit in Onehunga.

Best cafe in Auckland. Staff is amazing and service is absolutely best in class. I would highly recommend this place for all occasions. Amazing coffee, food , service and staff. Overall a 5 star experience. Keep up the good work guys. Thx

Really good food and freshly made. The coffee was amazing with personal touch by writing on top. Customer service is spot on. Location is great with ample parking.

I was using zomato to look for a cafe in Onehunga. It says that brick by brick is a Japanese cafe and I love Japanese food. Went to brick by brick on Thursday. Teriyaki chicken was good but over priced, it only comes with a few pieces of chicken. To be honest, it looks like an indian cafe more than Japanese/Asian.

Came here today for lunch, we drove past and thought we would pull in and try it out. What a lovely welcome and food was devine, 4 of us all chose off the menu. 2 calamari salads, toasted sandwich and i had the chicken salad, great flavours and very impressed with the service and nice staff. Even the ladies toilet was clean and well kept. Will defin8ly return again one day

It was a bit busy on a Sunday Afternoon when we came here. We were assisted directly to an empty seat by a trainee. Service✔️
Upon sitting down we were given water ✔️
I noticed they served the water without trays and that the guy was almost touching the rim of the glass, so I didnt even bother to drink the water. ✖️😶
Our orders were taken but the girl wasnt that polite and friendly. The apron she was wearing was also dirty, stained with white marks( which is understable).✔️✖️
Food was really good, tasted different from what I usually have. But my partner wasn't completely happy about his. The price didnt not match the quantity or what we were expecting. ✖️✔️
Over all, the experience was good, food was good.
We will surely be back😁

Grabbed one large flat withe coffee for $4.50 and one tuna sandwich for $8.00 there yesterday morning. Coffee and food was fresh and tasty. Staff were very friendly.

Came over today for brunch..The location and environment was pleasant and it's next to a small park. We ordered the big breakfast and pancakes with decaf and cappuccino.. The serving was huge.. Over priced for bacon, eggs, hash brown, mushrooms & toast.

Placed in between Royal Oak and Onehunga; pretty easy location and close to my home so I've been here a couple of times for lunch and breakfast.

They have a nice decor and with a cute name, definitely draws in customers. Their service is welcoming but sometimes their staff sound like they don't know what they are serving. I think they are missing a little something something - a cafe vibe or soul or buzz?

Food looks good but to be honest is overpriced for what it is. I suggest lunch over breakfast as there are many other cafes that offer a better selection of breakfast options.

This cafe is in a really handy location on onehunga mall road. We went on a Sunday morning and it seemed pretty busy! The service was good considering how busy they were. Plenty of parking outside in the parking lot. There menu features a great assortment of breakfast, lunch and beverages.

The Medium Breakfast was exactly what I needed to get me started for the day with a nice variety of classic breakfast options. The food was affordable and I would go here again.

Coffee is great, staff are super friendly but I am disappointed with their lack of gluten free options. Orange Cake is often seen as the only GF options in many cafes and it would be nice to see a few other options.

There are cafe's scattered all over Auckland that remind me of BbB. One or two in every neighbourhood. Tidy, pristine white walls, new tables and chairs and efficiently run. They tend to be packed by their locals and that's great! My parents like to have lunch here and I can absolutely see why. BbB is a lovely cafe.

It just doesn't feel like it has a lot of personality/soul. The coffee is good and always arrives hot and I like their menu.

I just prefer the eating estabs I visit to have a bit more personality. I prefer the music to be a bit funkier, louder even and to see a bit more colour on the walls. But well done Brick by Brick.
Anita
Extremely good coffee, food and exceptional service - every time we go. The staff are very courteous, respectful, attentive and remember our order well before we do! The atmosphere is great and I am always happy to meet friends there as the location and parking is handy and I'm confident the overall experience will be good for them as well. Keep up the great work :)

Great cosy little place that serves an interesting mix of Japanese and western cuisine ? reasonably priced with good quality meals and friendly staff.
Savio Valladares
A great little café with the perfect location . Great ambience inside as well as a small outdoor area beside a beautiful park. Staff are very friendly and pleasant which is hard to find these days. This place can be busy with lot of families so could be difficult to find a space but surely recommend this place for a visitI visited with my partner and ordered the Big Breakfast which was delicious. what we love is that you could order garlic butter toast. The eggs were poached to perfection and the bacon was nice and crisp. The café does have some slices and cakes on display but we were too full to trySurely do recommend this place
Gary Patterson
Great cafe with awesome food and service. Very good coffee and not over priced. Highly recommend this cafe no matter where you live in Auckland.
Lesley Lyons
We stopped here for lunch a couple of weeks ago. The food was decidedly ordinary and astonishingly overpriced. $16.00 for what amounted to an ordinary panini that I could have bought anywhere else for $8-$10. We wouldn't return.
Donny Chai
Ordered the kara-age chicken with rice dish, and it came well presented on a small - medium sized plate. The plate consisted of rice sprinkled with ao-nori (like seaweed flakes), a small scoop of potato salad, 5-6 pieces of the kara-age chicken, shredded cabbage with no dressing and a very small dollop of japanese mayo.

In terms of the taste it was pretty good, i would give it about a 4 out of 5. If I had my way, I would have liked the chicken marinade to have more punchy flavour and crispier, also the portion of the meal is very unbalanced with the price you pay for the dish. $16 doesn't make you feel very full as most other Japanese eateries that also serve chicken kara-age meals come with miso soup as standard, whereas they don't do this here and the portions of the rice & salad is a little more.

This also goes the same for their side dishes when I ordered wedges for $7.50, and it was disappointingly small.

It's not a 'fancy', super elite, boutique cafe with a michelin star or anything like that so I feel it's unjustified with charging that much money for the value you get.

The staff are friendly and the place is clean, but really the menu items are quite over-priced. If they had got the balance right with the food, then this place would deserve a 5 star rating.

I would come back, but in no hurry at all.

Had my bday brunch here. First time. 10.30am was packed but manage to get seatings of ten. Japanese run'd cafe'. The portion very small to medium, i also think its the plate size that made the food lookd scaled dwn, not ur normal large portion. Food was good, abit dry and cold by the time u bite into it. Interior an atmosphere very nice. Pleasant assistants, although it was busy, i requested a tomato sauce at front but noone came to give us any. Went for the 2nd time- still no tomato sauce delivered. Half way during brunch, had to give up asking?????

My family and I had our lunch at Brick by Brick today and everything was all good except one thing it really bothered me. I ordered the chicken karaage on rice and it was completely overpriced! $16 - all I got was four little pieces of chicken and a small bowl of rice and some thinly shredded cabbage as 'salad'! I was left still feeling hungry and noticed that if I had ordered only the chicken karaage as a side it would have been $7. If that's the same portion as you get as a main, the rice and 'salad' would have been an additional of $9 on top of the chicken. I felt totally ripped off and would warn anyone who visit the cafe not to get the dish! It's pretty shocking really despite the friendly staff and good coffee, I think they should adjust the price of the dish to $10 to be fair.
Alisha Jackson
This place is great - such friendly staff, great coffee and gorgeous food (like their plum and white chocolate brioches and homemade mini custard waffles)!

A favourite has to be the outdoor beanbags and tables just under the trees outside. Great for a Saturday morning brunch and they are very accommodating with children. There's also a park next door for the kids to run around in.

I've been here several times now and am always impressed by the really friendly service. The food is always amazing, very well priced, and they always make an effort to adhere to your requests, no matter how fussy you are..! I'm a pretty keen coffee drinker and have never been let down, the hot chocolates are also yum. Parking is always easy and in summer you have a nice lookout onto the little park.

We went on a Friday evening for dinner with friends as it has started opening in the evenings.
Had lovey service and wonderful Japanese food. I had the sushi which was great and my friends all had the sizzling plates with teriyaki salmon which was fabulous. Very reasonable price too.
Would recommend for a casual but delicious dinner out
Rose H.
Always enjoy having coffee here, they are quick to bring you coffee. The staff are friendly and give you lots of smiles.
Shan Langford
Horribly overpriced coffee. would never recommend. any other onehunga cafe would be better i recommend Jukes Espresso. Also staff seemed to be angry to work there. A smile goes a long way! service was slow and my first coffee (over priced) was terrible and we had to re order (to the anger of the barrista) horrible experience and only worth 1 star.
Kerensa Robertson
I like the food here, but the coffee is a disapointment. It is really, really terrible.
I often sit outside here, the premises and facilities are always clean, and their specials are really tasty. However, the menu hasn't changed since it opened, and the dinner menu is the same as the lunch one.
Duncan Brough
Love the fact you can chill out with a coffee outside while the kids play in the playground.......BIG plus!
Miso Soup
This cafe is located in a quaint little section of Onehunga. Pretty white benches adorning a lush green corner and dimly lit interiors invite you to Brick by Brick for a delightful experience.
The menu is an amalgamation of Asian and Continental, with an all-day breakfast option.
A few of us entered Brick by Brick at an odd time in the day, 5 PM, and were famished. We chose Pancakes with Berry, a Cappucino and Teriyaki Chicken - considerably safe options to go for, and very very tasty. The pancakes were fluffy, moist with syrup (just the right amount, not streaming down the dish) with a side of bacon and berries.
The Teriyaki and rice was flavoursome and fulfilling.
The staff is courteous and welcoming. The experience at Brick by Brick was remarkable and lovely. I am sure me and my friend would recommend this place, again and again.

If you are looking for a high end romantic place then this is a place to be. A cafe which redefines the word 'cafe' with its unique outdoor park style seating, will also make you feel closer to nature while you enjoy their simple yet elegant dishes.
We ordered the Pancakes with berries and Teriyaki with rice and have to admit that their presentation and taste was commendable.
I would definitely suggest this place to people who would love to enjoy the sound of silence and have some fabulous food. The overall setting of the place just compliments the romance and is an absolute delight away from the normal city routine.
