Review Nickie's Thai Restaurant & Bar - Auckland Central

Booked a table for 9 but we turned up with 10, no problem they squeezed us in and gave us great service and amazing food! Was our first time and we will definitely be going back. Thanit was our maître d' and he was cool And made us feel like regulars!

Truly the best and nicest staff on earth. My kids were overdue for a meal when we came in and these guys had a side of rice on a kids plate in front of them as fast as the drinks. They were super super amazingly nice and the food was incredible.
Heber Rocha
Tasty Thai food and great service. The owner is such a nice guy. I really recommend this restaurant.

The first time I ate at this restaurant was 20 years ago. Went last week. It was so good. The food, The taste, management, 20 years later, the deep friend snapper tasted just the same. Management and staff speak to you as though they have or still remember us from years ago

Nice Thai restaurant run by ? Indians 😁 Anyway, food was nice, maybe not “authentic” Thai, but definitely not Indian 😁. Staff is attentive and polite. Prices could be a bit lower, but at this time and age… Overall very good impression, will consider going there again for New Year celebration.

So i went for brunch the other day and found the food to be awesome, the snapper fillets were however not that satisfactory because I’m a great fan and frequent eater of seafood so i can figure out the freshness. Otherwise everything was awesome and would go again.

Nuclear Beef is a go to dish always 😋 Halal too.

This is my favourite place The only problem is it’s always busy Even if you book your table you have to wait long. Service are alway great and the food is amazing as well. Prices are higher though worth spending. Some time the crowd and noices are un suitable when you come with your families.
Propertyscouts Whangarei
All I wanted was reasonably fresh ingredients, a ice cold beer and a reasonable price. What we got was great service from the first phone call, friendly quick service, a ice glass, and a very reasonable price tag with amazing food. Honestly I love my ginger tai and this pad khing was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend. And I will be back!

This restaurant never fails to impress me, service is always exceptional, food always consistent and it has a nice environment. Went after along time and I have to say Nikkies always has the same and consistent standard that you want when you go over again and again.

Best Thai in Auckland. Outstanding customer service, delicious food and friendly staff. Every dish is made and served with love and care. Going as a couple, as a family or a whole group, best place to go! Very accomodating and flexible with almost all needs accomodated. Make your next family outing at Nickies and you won’t regret.

My first time here and the food was amazing. Make sure you make a reservation as it is busy. Located in New Market this restaurant is great. Will definitely come back again

I love this place. I go here with my families and friends at-least once a month. They serve best snapper in tamrind sauce yum 😋. Love the service of the staff. Very friendly and smiling 😊

Ordered uber delivery mix platter coz free delivery. <br/><br/>Chicken was nice, other battered food was ok. Little soggy but still warm. <br/><br/>Will try their curry next time :)
Ishan Gajjar
We ordered tempura squid and it was not seasoned at all. Didn’t have any taste to it

Celebrated my 21st Birthday here with friends. Food was great for its price, and the location was ideal for everyone to travel to as well.

Excellent and friendly service

Been coming to Nickies ever since I was a child. The restaurant is still as it was and still is very homey and welcoming with excellent service. Loved the Tom Kha Goong, was my first time trying it and it tasted amazing! Also the nuclear beef was really good as usual. Definitely will be back again to try more.

3.5 Rating! Love that this place serves Halal food! Such a good time with my Muslim friends and they get to experience Thai food too ☺️ love that there’s plenty of seats! Food wise was pretty good, love that they have a wide variety to choose from.
Paulkuru2
Food was ok but not great. <br/><br/>Be careful not to be overcharged as we had lunch and ended up having to argue over the fact that we had been charged the dinner menu prices that being the same food just 35% more per item. <br/><br/>The staff try to oversell and push items on you that you neither wanted or desired. <br/><br/>We gifted a friend a bottle of wine not intended to be consumed and it wasn’t yet had $8 added to the bill for corkage having order beer and wine to consume from the menu<br/><br/>Over all the thought of being ripped off left a very bad taste in our mouth and will not return

Worst experience.. we go there often..and last sunday we went there for my husband bday dinner..and almosg in my last few bites i found hair in my food..onion was attached and tangled with the hair in the dish..i forgot to take picture of my plate..restaurant staff offered me more rice but we were left with no chkn..and i told him thats ok..as a customer service they should wave off the cost of the dish said we were finished with the food..after argument he refunded us 10$..its not about money its about the service you get from them..i have worked with the restaurant and it is just not acceptable the food with hair..i will never recommend that place my friend also reviewd them but i cant see the review anymore..ridiculous customer service..will never go there again or will not recommend the place as well..if the customer service is not good then we can expect the how the place is..
Gaurav Chhetri
Food with Hair went there to celebrate friend birthday often go there for office parties we found hair in our food the staff changed the plate but not dish when we went to pay and asked to waive off for the dish he refused and started arguing that we almost finished the food he wont do it thats shamefull how you treat regular customers have asked my company to cancel all future get together never going back also staff was laughing wid no apologies

Been here a few times and all those times I came with my family. My parents seem to love the place. I have to say the dishes are nice and very flavourful. However, I think they should consider the amount of vegetables they put into their dishes as most of them are filled with it. This makes it harder to finish the food and it ends up getting wasted.
Serena Peng
Same owner with Pla Thong but the food here is NOT comparable. Tried red curry with prawns and grilled scallops. Was eatable, but not enjoyable. Very very average.

Tonight I ordered a takeaway meal for a friend in hospital - chicken and cashew and rice. Mild.<br/>I arrived at the hospital and to my disappointment - the meal was shrimp (which neither me nor my friend eat) and the vegetables were extremely spicey. We had obviously been given the wrong meal. I called and they said I could come and get my money back or a voucher.<br/>I returned within the next hour to the restaurant and was told 'this 'doesnt happen often,  - sorry' in an extremely off hand way. I was offered my money or a voucher. I took the refund, If  he ( i assume the manager) had been really apologetic, or even offered some kind of compensation (maybe a voucher for 2 meals), I would have accepted an apology as sincere. This person was off-hand and arrogant,  hence the review and promise not to return.
Najeeb Haider Zaidi
Food is good ambiance and environment is good. Quite generous quantity. Parking is a problem in the area. Service is great.<br/>Menu is not long, so provides easy selection. Taste is good as well. It gets busy during weekends, haven't tried during weekdays
Richard Lauren
I went as part of a large (20 people) group for lunch where we had all ordered our meals several hours before arrival. I was hoping to be in an out within 30mins as I had a meeting to get to, however it ended up taking almost 50mins for them to prepare my dish that had been ordered some 3 hours previously. Somehow the one person in our group who had not pre-ordered managed to get their meal about 15mins before me.<br/><br/>They never apologized for that fact it took so long, neither did they offer any discount or consolation.
Anna Botica
Went here for a friends birthday first when looking at the menu there was a lot to choose from....we order a few stuff and the food came out cold and the rice wasn’t very nice either but on the plus side the drinks were ok but didn’t enjoy it at all
Kushlan Sugathapala
Food was excellent.Nice atmosphere. Good value lunch special. Generously sized portion sizes. Extensive menu selection, including vegetarian section. It was very busy when we went on New Year’s Eve, service was a little slow.
Benedict Uy
We came by for a group Christmas lunch. We did book beforehand but it looked like they weren't aware of it. The restaurant wasn't too busy so it was ok. <br/><br/>We did inquire about a set menu when booking but it wasn't brought up when we were given menus and it wasn't on the menu. We ended up just ordering food separately.<br/><br/>The mixed entree was ok similar to what you get elsewhere. The mango shake was quite nice. I got the Pad Kee Mao and thought it was on the salty side. Flavours were ok. Tried the deep fried ice cream for dessert and that was nice. The coating had desiccated coconut so it had the texture of it but didn't have much coconut flavour.<br/><br/>Food was ok. It looked like they might have been understaffed since there was a lot of waiting, not just us but also other customers. There was also quite a few flies which were buzzing around our area so it made it a bit annoying while dining.
Eating My Way Around
Our group enjoyed our experience here. Good veggie/vegan options and am told snapper special was fresh and delish. Could do with some obvious kiddy choices or perhaps on a separate menu. My main had a decent serve of veg and I like that the rice is spooned out, minimises waste, yay! Overall great experience
Bella Luv Food
Been here for lunch and realised the menu has been updated so no lunch special actually. I ordered a green thai curry with beef. The staff was nice and friendly but I thought the service was a bit slow. The beef was not marinated and tasted like it’s not so fresh. The curry sauce is ok but not the best. So with the same amount you can find a better lunch option around busy New market.
Francesca Ramponi
Very nice restaurant with lots of dishes. The waitress is very polite. With my allergies it’s very difficult to find something to eat and here I found competent people who can help me.
Anitha Narayan
I have been here about 4 times and every single time I am offered excellent food and friendly service, well done guys and the spice level in the food was perfect !! Thanks
Joel Sadler
Poor service. Will not go back<br/><br/>1. Went in alone from work for dinner. Got welcomed poorly and looked as if I was annoying being alone. There were spare tables in the place, and upstairs free so not sure what was the problem.<br/><br/>2. Goody Card - this business is registered for Goody Card loyalty service, but were not running it at nights. If you want loyalty then run your loyalty system.<br/><br/>3. Went to pay and guy just pay waved my card and charged the wrong account. <br/><br/>Poor service, will not be going back.
Joel Kerber
Not worth spending a lot of money here. The entree are good but fish cakes had dried up cucumber and curry appears to be flavoursome. Perhaps suit a bland palette.<br/>
Sally La Haye
The food was average.  The plates that the food is served on are very cold, therefore you end up having a VERY cold dinner.  The staff were pleasant.
Indidev
Poor service, owner an old man is absolutely rude. If you expect good service, and good food , you are better off avoiding this place. Asked for vegetarian dish with tofu, instead of meat and got served up with three small pieces of tofu. When asked about the portion they all ganged up on proving how they were right, and I was wrong. The owner or manager have no idea how to speak to customers.
Nasir Muhammad
I wish I could give it no stars! They didn't honour their online menu. Total rip off and a very Rude owner. If you want to have a good evening with family and friends this is not a place to go.
Deen Khan
Extremely rude owner. Sells alcohol and claims to be halal. Not recommend to anyone looking for a family place to eat. Do Not be fooled into thinking they are halal.
April Guo
Portions are good, really fresh ingredients and tasteful dishes.<br/>Prompt and really friendly service.<br/>We definitely recommend this unique restaurant in the middle of Newmarket.<br/>We will come back. :-)
Veronica Te
Great food and really accomodating staff. However really spicy food! So if you get mild-its still pretty spicy... <br/>The place is dimly lit and usually quite busy with families and other groups.
DC
Great food and lovely friendly staff, nice atmosphere too, if it wasn’t a little spoiled by the extra large and very noisy group upstairs. Think the manager was a little concerned having to ask them to quieted down a bit but could have done better.<br/>Definitely would go again as think the noisy party was a rare one.
Beccs
Lovely Thai restaurant with excellent service. Visited with friends and due to a large function upstairs it was hard to make conversation and be heard! Manager very apologetic!<br/>Food was very average nothing special or outstanding but would visit again!
Sally S
Very attentive service with nice decor. Food did not take long to come out, but left me a little unsatisfied. Pad Thai was on the sweeter side and the Yellow Curry was a bit underwhelming. Overall pleasant experience though.  Great that this place is Halal!
Charlotteraju
Waited a very long time to try this place. Food was very good, and when you ask for spicy, boi do you get it. Best green curry ive ever had for sure. However they are a bit over priced compared to normal Thai restaraunts tbh.
Max Vitesse
I went here with a large group for a three course meal. The service was minimal, many of us could not get a drink all night and had only the initial water carafes. There was very little food for the price, and the dessert (scoop of vanilla ice cream on tinned fruit salad) was a poor token gesture. My colleagues and I won't be back.

WOW. Been to Nickies numerous times, never disappointed.  We booked for 6.30pm (Sunday) and were  seated immediately. We had wine, main meals and shared a dessert. Stir fry roasted duck with veges and leeks and stir fry prawns which they kindly substituted the onion for ginger at our request. Dessert was Bayleys cheescake which came with a  little tower of ice cream and a cherry on top. All delicious - Duck  tasty and tender, plenty of succulent prawns.   Dessert yummy.  Relaxed ambiance, similar to most Thai restaurants.  Would have been 5 stars, but not much leeks with the duck - rather a lot of onion that was not cooked enough. HOWEVER, shortly after we mentioned this, a small bowl of fried leeks arrived at our table with a friendly smile. Moral is, if you have any issues, just let the staff know right away and give them the chance to remedy it. They kindly packaged up our left overs which made an awesome lunch the following day. <br/><br/>In a nutshell we feel this is great Thai food with excellent service at a reasonable price<br/><br/>TIP: just down the road on the left, they have free parking after 6pm with plenty of room. There is a Nickie's sign on a post and you can park anywhere in this big carpark. <br/><br/>Thanks Nickies

Had lunch there one time. <br/>Really liked the place, Well mix of spices.<br/>Will definitely go again if I am around that place. <br/>Veges crisp and tasty. <br/>

A handy local Thai restaurant in Newmarket this place is never packed but always has patrons. They are super quick if you are looking for a work lunch and their $12 lunch specials are real value.<br/><br/>I eat here often and can recommend the pad Thai, green curry and panang curry as well as the laksa. They are perfectly sized meals for a lunch-not too big or small. <br/><br/>Recommend if you are looking for a nice Thai quick lunch!
Julie Cao
Excellent service and great taste of Thai food. Great atmosphere and good for get together with family and friends. We loved the stir fry duck, Tom Yam Gong, ice cream dessert. Will come back again!

Decided to try this place out as we had the entertainment book discount. Overall experience would rate as average. Service is slow, food is average and genera ambience of the place is quite dated.<br/>The Tempura Squid for starters was basically battered squid (not tempura batter), fish cakes were chewy and bland. The 'stir fry' Prawns in red curry paste turned out to be red curry Prawns- but by this stage we had been waiting so long I couldn't be bothered arguing the point or sending it back. The chicken stir fry lacked flavour. We won't be going back here.

Good dish presentation good taste <br/>Satisfied with quality n quantity. Amazing service !<br/>Highly recommend. You won't go wrong on this. Value for money

I’ve been here twice for lunch during the work week, and was surprisingly able to get a table for 4 both times. Food came out pretty quickly and the service was friendly from start to finish. (I was with clients both times, so sorry for the lack of photos!)<br/><br/>I’ve tried three of their appetisers: the vegetarian mixed appetiser, the corn fritter (tod man kao pod), and the mixed appetiser (spring roll, curry puff, and wonton parcel). My favourite was the curry puff with its soft outer pastry. I quite liked how substantial the little spring roll was, but was slightly underwhelmed by the wonton parcel as the vegetables didn’t seem fresh.<br/><br/>Between the three of us, we shared a green curry (with chicken), pad med (with snapper), and pad kra tiem (with lamb). These were all good dishes, though the snapper pad med stood out for me. The curry was delicious and not too creamy, although I wish it came with more chicken. Rice portions didn’t look big at first, but it ended up being enough.<br/><br/>Looking forward to coming back and trying more of their seafood dishes!

I had the lunch banquet. Food was quite tasteless. Small portions. Waiter that served me - I've had much better.<br/>I generally love thai food, however this was really a disappointment. Very immemorable experience, don't intend on returning.

This place is AMAZING. The staff are fantastic, friendly and helpful. <br/>I order from here pretty much every time I'm working and get it to takeaway and every single time the dishes are beautiful. <br/>I love the tom yum soup and the fried rice, as well as the pad Thai. <br/><br/>The flavours are perfect and I'm probably going to keep ordering from here when I'm around! ❤
Medium_Rare
Came here for lunch with the colleagues, knowing that the lunch was on the boss, we did get to try a variety of lunch options. <br/><br/>They have a set lunch menu which doesn’t really inspire in terms of creativity but rather gunned for some established classics. <br/><br/>One thing to note for patrons is not to order the general starter platter, its literally just a spring roll, fried wonton, and curry puff. Albeit the curry puff was delicious you’re better off just ordering some curry puffs for the table.<br/><br/>Group consensus was that the green curry was refreshing and flavorful, the spicy sweet stir fry had a great kick and there was a generous selection for vegetarians.<br/><br/>Showstopper: Curry and Sweet & Sour Stir Fry <br/><br/>Overall Grade: B
YumYum
Our preferred place for Friday office lunch. Very good Thai food and great value. Authentic and full of flavour. My favorite is the Pad Prik Sod & Kao Pad Kra Praw :)
Zeeshan Ahmed
Went there for a take away chicken fried rice. I asked for a medium-to-hot one but it was very much mild and the taste was just acceptable. They do offer a lunch special which is a bit pricey too as compared to others in Newmarket..
Holly Shaw-Fowles
We waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated- which isn't as bad as some other people who have made reviews of Nickie's. My boyfriend asked after 15minutes when we were going to be seated as two big tables had been available the whole time. The staff member was quite rude with his "Give me three minutes" response. Buffet B was absolutely awesome and the drinks were really nice too. However, when we asked questions about certain things in the food (because it was tasty but weren't sure what it was) it took a while to find a staff member who spoke good enough English to answer us. Overall, food and drinks were the highlight- the service does need improvement.
Yoyo
Worst customer service ever! We had a group of ppl, they charged wrong, then called back the restaurant the next day, they didn't want to return the money to us saying "only $40" and also gave us a stupid example. The price of food is expensive comparing to other Thai restaurants, food is average, the potion of food is small, to be honest. It is not worth going. You can get same taste of food for half of the price in other Thai restaurants. Will never go there again.
Jackie Chun
Went here for a christmas staff dinner. If it weren't for being in the company of good friends, Nickies almost ruined it the christmas function.<br/>Waited 3 hours for the dinner "buffet" to come.<br/>The buffet consisted the 6 dishes<br/>- stir fry with prawns x 2<br/>There were barely any prawns and it tasted the same as the stir fry beef.<br/>- stir fry with beef x2<br/>Beef was dry like eating cardboard.<br/>- Green chicken curry<br/>The small bowl size of that could barely be split between a full table 9 adults.<br/>- snapper<br/>Cooked as the same as the stir fry and tasted the same as the stirfry. The rice was like mush for babies<br/>Essentially out of the 6, 5 dishes tasted the same. <br/>The quality was so bad even I could make it myself @out home. I would've thought you pay restaurants for food you cant make at home. <br/>The proportionals were ridiculously small for a "buffet" not worth the 3 hour wait. <br/>They probably kept us waiting, to keep pushing drinks on us to make us spend more money.<br/>This restaurants food quality is trash. <br/>Dont waste your time or ruin your taste buds and digestive system eating here.
Choco
The vegetarian noodles and tofu dishes are tasty. I prefer take away as it gets a bit cramped and noisy during the weekends. This is my first Thai food experience ever :)

Amazing Thai Food!!<br/><br/>The atmosphere was pleasant.<br/><br/>The service was impeccable, attentive staff and well presented.<br/><br/>The food was fresh, authentic and full of flavour absolutely delicious.<br/><br/>It was some of the best Thai Food we have tasted!!<br/><br/>Overall a great experience.<br/><br/>Will definitely be going back.
Sonia Patel
Very good Thai food ! I had the cashew nut chicken- hot ;) the price is also reasonable for the portion! Will surely recommend and come back again .

First time to come here for lunch, they have workday lunch specials with appetisers, soups, and mains. All the mains are $12 with chicken, beef, and pork as well as $17 with prawns. I had a stir fried vege and beef dish topping with peanut sauce, which was really tasty, although looked not very good.

last night, we ate dinner at this place and its our first time (with my partner) and was amazed by their food. thai food, gooood taste! a must-try resto😋
LoveEatLive
Not to be so mean with the score I gave them but I was extremely disappointed... there is no service in this place... it's almost like a fish market bathed in chaos.<br/><br/>I arrived at 7.55pm and got seated around 8.30 with an empty table that was available the whole time. I did tell the male at the reception that I was hungry and we would like to sit to order starters while we wait for 3/5 of the rest of our party to arrive. He still asked us to wait with that empty table conveniently available.<br/>Don't get me wrong the politeness was there but they would rather get people in and out of the door than provide a good experience. And honestly when I do dine out .. I expect to be looked after well, as I spend my calories and macros in a satisfied environment.<br/><br/>The food was quick to arrive with barely any thought of presentation sadly. Taste wise was something an old store on the corner street would sell. I should have guessed when the waitress asked for spiciness for a Gai Yang? Really? <br/>Btw which came out sweet as anything.<br/><br/>Highlight of the night was dessert. It was presented well and tasted good.<br/><br/>Overall Nickie's gained this 1 rating thanks to the two waitresses who seemed like they were trying their best to keep all the tables happy. I hope they are not over worked.<br/><br/>Ambiance: 4/5<br/>Drinks: 2.5/5<br/>Food: 3/5<br/>Service: 1/5<br/><br/>Cost: reasonable prices but definitely not worth what is provided.. I would have paid half of what I did for the service and food quality.<br/><br/>Please remember it is about quality not quantity.<br/>I hope you take my rant a constructive feedback to better this place.
RandomFats
I went there last night with family for my graduation and it ended up spoiling the evening. The service was disgusting. Waited 2 hours for food to arrive and our orders were messed up. I got my food 20 mins after everyone else at the table even though I ordered first. They messed up the bill as well and argued with my sister to see her slip even though she was not given one.
Ryan Wong
I like the decor here, food was average in my opinion and place is normally busy but would not be my go to place. Would not recommend staying for dessert either.
I'm Hungry
Amazing thai food!! Highly recommended. I usually go here for lunch and everything in lunch menu is $12 that makes it very good value for money. Curries are really good, my favourite - penang and masaman, salsa is incredible too, also must try are the pad thai and the thai fried rice (kao pad kra praw), entrees (curry puffs, spring rolls etc) are really good too. Good service, lovely ambience. It tends to get full on weekends so go early for a nice group a seating.
Zeeshan Ahmed
Tried the Chicken Fried Rice for Lunch. The quantity was a bit less then expected. It wasn't enough for one time meal. Taste was not that bad but nothing exceptional.

I celebrated my 30th bday at Nickie's with 30-something friends upstairs and everything was superb! I enjoyed Pad Thai with prawns which was delicious and a huge portion. The consistency of level of spice over the dishes seemed to vary, but everyone seemed to enjoy their dishes.<br/><br/>I did need to prompt the staff to take our orders (after approx 1hr 15 mins), but once I did this everything was very prompt - and I guess it's probably difficult to tell when a large group wants to start eating! Staff politely asked us all the sit down, they took our orders and systematically gave us all our food without any errors - not an easy feat with our massive group! They very kindly delivered a birthday cake (that a guest had bought along without a prior warning) complete with candles, and provided a flaming shot for the surprised birthday girl!<br/>Paying was also painless and they allowed everyone to pay for what they ate. Guests who bought drinks were able to pay directly at the bar as they consumed, which worked perfectly.<br/>A highly efficient and polite team at Nickie's, with wonderful food. We will surely come here again, perhaps next years' bday dinner?! Thank you very much team :)
Karo
Came here for lunch one day we ordered our mocktail, entrees and main meals all at the same time and received our main meals first. We had asked the waitress where our entrees were and she said they were coming. We eventually got them and still hadn't received our mocktails after once again asking where they were. We finally got the mocktails when we were done with eating. Food was very tasty and we enjoyed it, but they possibly need extra staff for when it's busier.
Auckland Food Tours
Ok Thai restaurant, we went for lunch and my friends really enjoyed it. The pad thai was the best dish I tried, the Laksa was ok the Tom Kha soup was too sweet.<br/>Good value at $12 for lunch but not wildly impressive

Very nice food and friendly customer service . Went there first time with ma family and loved it thoroughly. Highly recommended. Stir-fried duck was awesome and sizzling duck was yummilicious.. happy eating😀👌

It's such a pleasure to dined in this restaurant. very lovely waitress from the Philippines😉,she's really Witty and funny aye! have a great sense of humour that can make you laugh out loud Jezz😂 I noticed that she's only waitress that interact with the customers and that a plus factor of course aside from serving a great food! overall we had a very good dining experienced and will definitely recommend this restaurant to my colleagues😊

We came late one night for dinner- ringing prior to make sure that the kitchen was still open for orders. The staff were lovely and welcoming, seated us straight away and we were ordered because we were so hungry. I have been here twice before, but a very long time ago and I think it is still under the same management - very nice people! We ordered satay chicken, spring rolls, a mango and a pineapple mocktail, pad Thai and a duck dish. <br/>All were great portions at a decent price (~$20 for a main) and we couldn't finish because there was a lot to eat! I am very pleased with this experience, so if you're after high quality Thai food with amazing service and a nice setting I recommend trying this place out.
Tracey Goss
This was an unexpected pleasure.  We were looking for somewhere for lunch, a parma in a pub, but we stumbled across this beauty.<br/><br/>Food was great and so were the cocktails.<br/><br/>Pad Thai, satays, curry all delicious.
Sanjeev Dubey
Poor hospitality. Owner/Manager very arrogant. Very poor service do not provide Napkins/ cutlery unless asked for. Would not recommend. Went for dinner and day ended on a very disappointing note
Holly D-T
Great restaurant but very disappointed to be charged $3 for rice and not being told this!! The food was quick..very yum and full of flavour! I ordered a cocktail and had to laugh when I saw the waitresses googling how to make it..in their defence it was a great watermelon martini! Don't think I would go again but I did enjoy the food!
Noor S (noorinfoodistan.wordpress.com)
<br/>Be careful when u ask for "spicy" or "hot" at a Thai restaurant. It'll blow ur mind off;).<br/><br/>Chicken pad Thai was nice.<br/>Sizzling lamb was okayish..underdone for my liking.<br/>I like the attire of the staff. Friendly service.<br/><br/>This could be a lil pricey for someone who doesn't wanna spend too much on their food!

Best Thai halal food in Auckland.Good Value for money.<br/>Would love to try other dishes next time.My 14months daughter loved the food. Its a must go again.<br/><br/><br/><br/>

Went here the other night with a few friends to enjoy dinner together. Night started out great, everyone ordered at the same time - food and drinks came at all different times, asked for mild and received spicy, one waitress dumped rice on my plate without asking me if I'd like some in the first place, went to pay the bill and they charged me $3 for a scoop of rice which I did not ask for, nor was told it was extra. Not impressed as I saw some of the staff googling how to make our drinks.

We are the couple from Canada and we're having our holiday in Auckland for 2 weeks. We visited this restaurant for dinner for the first time on Friday. We have been to other Thai restaurant before but Nickies are far different. The atmosphere was good although it's a little hot inside. But what capture our attention is the excellent service from our lovely waitress who wore purple uniform if I'm not mistaken she's from Philippines. She's very obliging, friendly and look after us very well. We tried the sizzling hot plate dish and fried ice cream for dessert. The food was really tasty and full of flavours and would like to compliment the Chef. Fair enough for the price I think!

Warning! Please do not take any infants to this restaurant! We are regular customers to this restaurant. My brother and 18 month old nephew was visiting us from overseas. Thought we would take them to our favourite restaurant. My little nephew was a bit restless that day and so we ordered his food first. We tried everything possible to keep him calm. He screamed a few times but was not continuous. The manager came to us and rudely commented about his screaming and told us to sort him out! It looked like he has had a bad day because he was very rude to the waiters and my nephew's screaming was his final blow out. I would say, Thanith handled this whole situation in a very immature way and we are very very upset with this incident.

Enjoyable Thai restaurant with good food and great value. Authentic and full of flavour. My favourite is the pad thai and red curry with duck. This is by far the Thai place we visit the most (both dine-in and takeaway)!

My favorite Thai restaurant in Auckland. I have been taking lot of family and friends there for nice dinner outings. <br/><br/>Tom Yum soup is a must for a starter!<br/>The service from the staff, especially the owners shows their genuine commitment to customer service. Just need some waitress to be long service staff so they can be on par with the existing staff.<br/><br/>A nice dinner on Friday or Saturday nice is a must if you want a quiet nice dining with family or friends

Nice dinner experience we had yesterday night. Loved their food. Good service. And its halal thai restaurant. Portion was good enough. Will go again.

There's a lot of good Thai options to try in the region and I have to say Nicki's is there the top of my list around here. The location and decor of this place is very authentic and its great to bring a group of friends here. <br/><br/>The service is always snappy and the food is always great. I've ordered a few things off their menu before and everything I've had at this place is bursting with flavor and great portions for the prices. The lunch deals here are also hard to beat but I would recommend coming here any time! <br/><br/>Overall, its always a good dining experience at Nicki's.

Had a very pleasant meal again tonight at Nickie's Thai restaurant in Newmarket it is always consistent with a very pleasant atmosphere great tasting food and friendly service <br/>Food is definitely a cut above most other Thai restaurants around Auckland especially the taste <br/>Keep up the great service and food

Always think all Thai restaurants are the same but this one has particularly good flavors. The ingredients of the food can be improved a bit, the snapper fish was made from frozen not fresh. The house famous beef was a little bit tough. However the flavors are just wonderful. Loved the curry puffs as they are just so fluffy and flavorsome.

Awesome food and very good service. Warm and cosy with friendly staff. Good location. Parking at the back with a 3 min walk to the restaurant - could be an issue in wet weather but otherwise great.

What makes Nickie's Thai standout is the work that has gone into the presentation of each dish. Thanks to a #Zomatomeetup it has gone from a restaurant that I drive by often to one I will visit often. Very hard to go past the Deep Fried Whole Snapper after the bread topped with Chicken & Prawn. Fantastic food, friendly service and a ok wine list.<br/><br/>Will be back.

Was invited to dine with a few other Zomato foodies and was delighted to know we were having Thai!! #gluttonmodeon <br/><br/>We were spoilt with a full three course meal to share, sampling almost every dish on the menu (slight exaggeration). <br/><br/>Stand out dishes for me were:<br/>Entree: Curry puff. Delightfully crisp pastry filled with a beautiful curry potatoe mash. <br/>Main: Pla Lard Prik. Whole fish fried perfectly then drenched in a sweet chilli sauce. <br/>Dessert: Baileys cheesecake with ice cream. So beautiful and creamy without being too sweet.<br/><br/>Would have loved to try one of their soups as well as a duck dish. Will need to remember for next time.<br/><br/>Ambience/Decor: 3.5/5<br/>Service: 5/5<br/>Taste: 4/5<br/>Overall: 4/5<br/><br/>Would definitely come back again. Thank you Zomato and Nickies for the lovely evening.

I have been here a couple of times, every time is for Lunch with a bunch of friends. The lunch menu was good, I usually have Tom Yum Soup and Kao Pad Kra Praw (Spicy Fried Rice), as I been to Thailand a lot, I prefer my Thai food, Thai Spicy Hot which they really does make it as per my preference but still taste good! Service is always great from the waitresses and Manager, they do tend to our weird group request every time with patience. Me and my colleagues always give a thumbs up when we dine there. If you dine in a group, you can also contact them to preorder your meal. <br/><br/>I was there last night for dinner with a bunch of Old and New friends for #FoodieMeetUp Dinner, we kinda ordered almost everything in the menu to share, the food was great, from Appetizer, Main to Dessert... My highlight for the night was the Mix Appetizer, Pla Lard Prik (Deep Fried Whole Snapper with Chillies and Tamarind Sauce), Stir Fried Prawn and Panang Curry Beef. I love the dessert, ice cream with jackfruit, fried banana with ice cream... yum! and the cheesecake is soft but really rich... I was feeling so full by the end of the dinner... Wish I have more space in my tummy to eat everything... Would definitely come again, good food! Joey Sim Daniel Power Kayla H Sarah Forsyth Porvi Fomra Jo Y David Boshier

Visited Nickies for a #zomatomeetup. The service was efficient and friendly with a good selection of all your usual Thai dishes and a good wine list. All the dishes we tried were very good. The entrees were great, particularly the prawn toast. Will definitely return next time we are on the hunt for a Thai fix.

My partner and I ordered takeaway from here and it was very very nice. The staff were extremely pleasant and friendly. We will be back :) :)

nickies is an old favourite of mine from days passed when I had an entertainment book. With a most un-thai name it has some consistently good thai food. Maybe not sensational but consistent isvhow id describe this place. Spring rolls of course..3/5 were ok-ish. Nothing to write about but crisp with a serving of 4. No real taste so I on a rare occasion used the dipping sauce which I did like. Pad thai was prawn as usual. 4.5/5 really tasty and a good portion. Prawns used were moderately large and generous in quantity.<br/>A red duck curry was our final dish 3.5/5 again generous duck and had some lychee and pineapple pieces. Mistake was I ordered the mild and this didnt have the zip that it could of. A bit meagre on the amount of sauce.<br/>Service here was just ok. Long wait for a ordered drink and didnt get offered a top up of rice so when I ran out I stopped eating. Good for the waistline I guess. Doggy bagged the rest and had tge pad thai for lunch the next day.

Always love coming here, especially since they're halal. Staff are always welcoming.<br/><br/>Favourites here are the red curry with roast duck, and the nuclear beef. The food does taste a bit more accommodating to the western palate, however is still enjoyable.<br/><br/>Have previously hosted a group of 20 here and staff were very helpful with everyone enjoying their meal. <br/><br/>Prices are a bit pricey, as most Thai places in Auckland, but Nickie's Thai is a nice place to visit for dinner every now and then.

This is a very nice place for Thai food. The salads are superb and the traditional Thai curry (green or red) is great. The ambience is cool too. Will go again.

Not a good place , according to me. We were 17 of us and had a booking upstairs, but it was changed without informing us , to downstairs. They took almost 1-1n half hour to bring our food! When they brought the food, it looked similar, look wise and taste wise... and the worst part was the man who was taking our order.. while paying for the food, he said we had ordered an extra Menu ...which we did not and probably, he brought it by mistake, because we were so many of us...! And asked me to pay the rest since i was the last one!! On asking he started making up things...anyways, the food was not too good , and the service was worse than that...

Such an amazing restaurant! Great service and delicious food. Loved every bite! Definitely recommend Nickie's to anyone who loves a great feed. They provide a wide range of items, perfect for vegetarians!

Good food, great price.<br/><br/>A friend recommended nickie's and popped in for lunch not so long ago and i wasn't disappointed. The $12 lunch specials are hard to beat and do not sacrifice on quality like a lot of the other places.<br/><br/>Quality food, good ambiance and good service definitely makes this place well worth the visit.<br/><br/>Personal favorites are the beef in penang curry and tom yum soup ( extra hot !! )

If you live classic Thai food Nickies is perfect. Located in Newmarket but just on the edge of<br/>Parnell so parking is easy. Family run and they remember their regulars. Food is alway good, have been going here for over 10 years.

Parking at Newmarket is usually not easy, but for dinner, Nickie's Thai has its parking spaces some 50m down on the left side of Railway Street.  <br/><br/>There were not many customers on a Tuesday evening, however, our waitress had neglected to bring us water. We had Tom Yum Goong soup, fish cakes & Talay scallops for entrées. I liked the fish cakes better than the recommended scallops. For the mains we had Thai fried rice, red curry chicken, stir-fried roasted duck & deep-fried snapper.  Our waitress had our cutleries forgotten again! All our mains were good. One of us liked the duck, the other liked fish..., but none liked the chicken. We had the recommended Bailey's cheesecake, but we all felt that it wasn't that good. The fried ice-cream was the one we all gave our thumbs up.<br/>(Food - 4/5; Service - 3.5/5; Ambience - 4/5)

Nickie's is one of my most favorite Thai restaurants in Auckland. Excellent, friendly and attentive customer service. Fresh, authentic and immensely delicious flavorsome food at good value. This is my go to for Thai. Highly recommend.

The food was just amazing and customer service was awesome as well.. We Will definitely come back and this place is highly recommended :-).

Nickie's always been my favourite restaurant but not anymore, 7 of us went for my husbands birthday on the weekend....took so<br/>Long to give our order and seems like everyone was all over the place... An indian guy was taking our order he was really friendly in the beginning and suggesting few items but the food was not acceptable and the service was slow. Most of the food was cold, and lacked of flavours. Not enough quantity either. Our Roti came at the end of our meals finished so we had to cancelled it. Generally two boys run the restaurants really well. When i asked the the guy that it has been changed owner? even his answer was tricky saying not yet... Doesn't get it. He didn't apologise or anything and I said to him we won't be going back again and seems he doesn't care and it was fine for him. Thank you for spoiling my husbands birthday -:(
Not Good
Ordered food early and was told delivery would be an hour later at 8.30. Called at 8.50 and was told we would be called back when he found out what was happening. No call back happened and so called back 25 mins later, 9.15 and was told it was on its way and they were busy. No apology. Finally arrived 9.30. An hour late. Still no apology. Delivery man described it as a "little late". Phone number was given with initial order and yet no contact was made. Food was good but not worth an extra hour delay!

In fact I really should give this restaurant a zero.  I had the most disappointing experience at this restaurant.  After reading good reviews I decided to dine here.  I ordered vegetarian spring rolls as a starter and only discovered it had meat in it when I had already bitten through the thick pastry.  I don't eat meat so this was very upsetting for me.  The food portions were small and the food did not taste  like authentic thai food - fellow diners agreed with this.  The waitress seemed very reluctant to dish out the rice only giving a small amount which didn't matter I suppose because the dishes had hardly any ingredients.  When it came to paying , the manager insisted I pay for the meat spring rolls as it had been bitten into.  When I showed my disapproval he snatched my credit card from my hand, refusing to give it back and insisted I pay or else he said he will call the police.  I was so embarrassed in front of my fellow guests I paid anyway.  This ruined the whole dining experience.  The manager should be sacked. Very disappointing - I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and I certainly will not be back.

Love this place, great flavour and decent portions. They have a great takeaway special which is good value for money. However, I have ordered takeaway from here a number of times and they haven't been ready at the time given (sometimes an extra 20-30 minute wait). Overall great place and our families choice for Thai takeaways
Mane Bradich
Disappointing takeaway. Food zapped in micro-oven, stale vegetables, 'peanut' sauce = very watery fluid. The public cannot be fooled forever. Word of mouth 'bread and butter' of business. Too many excellent Thai restaurants in Auckland in competition.
Sarah
Service was very friendly, attentive and helpful. The food was was fresh, authentic and delicious and everyone enjoyed their meals. Memorable experience with nice atmosphere. Definitely coming back. Highly recommended :)

A usual go to restaurant for us. The ambience is nice and the food matches the good atmosphere.<br/><br/>I love the stir fry duck meals, and the Thai curries. <br/><br/>Entrees are a bit so-so, best just go straight to the mains :)
Ian
Rather disappointed, the sweet chilli on the entree was so hot it took your breath away.. <br/>The seafood in the "Nickies Ocean" was tired and not fresh. The calamari was so hard and rubbery it was almost like a scrubbing brush. Service was friendly and attentive. <br/><br/>Restaurant is a bit dated and could do with a freshen up.

For the third year running we held our Xmas function here. Attentive staff, well presented, tasty food, will be back again next year. Thank you so much for going the extra mile at the end of the evening when we had trouble getting a taxi.

recd b'day letter to wish me with $30 worth credit against food. <br/>went there for my b'day - 3 of us couple + kid. enjoyed food apart from a wrong dish was brought which we didn't order , but waiter brought correct one later on. we had to wait but taste was nice.
Miriam
Second time back there tonight and did not disappoint! Amazing food. Likely to be one of the best Thai places in Town :-) Ther service is great and waiters attentive to details. They gave us a voucher for my birthday which was an added bonus!
Courtney Williams
Very nice. Went there with my extended family and all our food were tasty except the green curry chicken, where the meat was dry and overcooked. Will definitely return.
Sara Salman
This is our family fave and it is always scrumptious. The food seems fresher/better on the weekend and weeknights its not as good. I highly recommend the tamrind snapper although it is deep fried, its worth the extra calories.

have been to this restaurant a lot of time's, considered my favourite now, as i only eat halal meat. The service is very good, and the food is absolutely delicious, i have never had to complain about anything there.will be taking my sister and family there 4 her b-day. :)<br/><br/><br/>so i took my sis for her b-day, and my family and over all every1 really enjoyed the food. the only complaint they had was the main course's take quite a bit of time to come out. but it was worth the wait, because the food was that great. :)

A party of us went there on a Saturday night. Everyone was happy with their dishes. The waitresses and waiter was always attentive making sure everyone was happy. As it was a birthday gathering one of our party had brought a cake and the waiter happily brought it out on a plate with candles. Overall a great experience. Will be back.

One star here. We asked if they accepted the entertainment card which they do...Seemed like a great deal. However upon getting our order and receipt we noticed they marked up the price on the soup from 9.90 to 20.90. <br/>A single "extra" helping of rice was charge not once on the plate but three time as we had three people but only one serving. 2X un-order items were also added and we had to argue insisting that we had not even considered/mentioned let alone received such. <br/>Each meal we received was substandard or nothing special. Presentation of the meals was average to poor. <br/>The only plus was from an attentive waitress whom made sure our drinks and refills were on quick supply. but this will not see our party ever return.

Fantastic place for Thai food, service is generally pretty quick and pleasant. The food has always been pleasing to the pallet. One evening when we got takeaways from there the order was dispatched incorrectly, however the manager went out of his way to put it right and delivered the food to where we were and also included some extras, awesome service. Would recommend....

Great Food, Great Staff, Great Service.<br/><br/>Make sure you try the 'Nuclear Beef', it is a meal you'll go back for over and over. I've had it more than a dozen times in the past 5 years... it never fails!
Amelia
We had a beautiful meal last night, the best thai food in town, we will be back.

Nickies is our local, so we enjoy takeaway as well as dining in regularly. Dining in is lovely as it has an authentic atmosphere and good sized wine glasses. The service is responsive and friendly. Generally the TA is just as good as eating in, and they do "spicy" really well.
Amanda @ Move Love Eat
I've been to Nicky's a couple of times for work lunches and love the $14 menu. It's a decent size for lunch, but not too much to make you feel absolutely stuffed. They also have a concession card which works out at even better value for money than the $14 lunches which is a nice bonus if you plan on eating here often - I believe it expires within 4 months though. <br/><br/>This is another restaurant in the Newmarket area that has great lunch specials but are not super cheap for dinner which is unfortunate, although they are not expensive for dinner by all means just the lunch special is a bargain!<br/><br/>Both times I have had the chicken penang curry which was nice and tasty and full of flavour as all good Thai food should be :)
Jenna Wee
We thought we'd try somewhere new for dinner so headed to Nickie's in Newmarket for some Thai...<br/><br/>Parking: it was a Monday evening so parking wasn't that much of a hassle. We found a park off one of the side streets nearby.<br/>Service: friendly and very attentive - this was a Monday evening so it was pretty quiet. <br/>Food: their is loads to choose from on the menu. We ordered a prawn spring roll appetizer (delicious and was served promptly), a pad thai gai (yes, the standard Thai go-to meal) and a chicken panang curry. Everything tasted great with big portion sizes. <br/>Price: it came to around $70 for an appetizer, two mains, a beer and a soft drink. It'd say this is a little pricey when there are other places that offer the same kind of cuisine for less. In saying that, it depends on what kind of evening you're looking for. <br/>Strangely enough I'm looking at my receipt and the takeaway menu (definitely a plus that they home deliver too!) and the prices are different. So I'm not sure whether we've been over-charged or if the menu I'm looking at is old. The panang curry on our receipt says $21.90 but on the menu I'm looking at it says $16.50. OR is the take-away menu just cheaper? The take-away menu pricing makes more sense to me. <br/><br/>All in all though definitely can't complain about the food or the service!
