Review Cafe Cezanne - Auckland Central

Joel Beachman
Wow! I Strayed here by accident. I was looking for a coffee and got a great meal. So good! I had the Bun Bo. I think the broth was the best I've had in NZ. I will be going back to try the Vietnamese baguettes. The iced coffees looked good too. I'll try one next time.

Best place for breakfast. Service is unmatched, soon as you sit down your food is ready. It is our go to place for breakfast in Ponsonby. Well priced, great food quality, relaxed atmosphere and great to have a chat. It is a bit old and not modern, but we love it. Recommend sitting outside, could use a bit of a clean inside.

It is the best place where you can try Vietnamese Beef Noodle Soup and Banh Mi in New Zealand. They even beat Try It Out with taste and authenticity. They recently relocated to Kelston Mall. Parking is available right outside the restaurant. They close around 3pm. I wish they were open all the way till 8pm.

Had an iced latte and the pork bành mí. The latte was nice and smooth, without the overly bitter quality you get from some cafes. Bành mí was fantastic! It's a mid piece of a baguette, so you don't get the too-crunchy ends. Toasted to the perfect level as well. The pork was fantastically seasoned. The veggies on top were a nice complement - a little tang from the spring onion and a nice smoothing out with the carrot. The sauce was excellent and right in the goldilocks zone. Overall, it was a fantastic lunch and really great value (coming in below $20 for a sandwich and a drink). Service was quick and friendly. Welcome to Kelston, Cafe Cezanne! I'll definitely be back!

FYI they have moved to Kelston mall if you want to find them!! The most authentic Vietnamese food to go for in Auckland I would say, love all the noodle soups here and their friendly service. Photos are bún bò Huế and bún măng vịt

I got recommended from the facebook group. Each week they have special dish. I love bún riêu & cơm gà Hội An. I came here with my sister and friends and they all love it. Price is affordable (approx $25 for main dish with 1 beverage). Highly recommend. 👉Check my collection photos of their beautiful dishes.

Lovely meals created so beautifully. The poached eggs were perfect actually both meals were on point, nothing over or under cooked. The staff were friendly and polite. And the service was prompt. I will definitely visit again soon

Taste: 4/5 Presentation: 3/5 Timeliness: 4/5 Price: 4/5 Nothing significant to complain or highlight about, decent experience with limited parking at the front.

Felt like something light, tasty and nutritious - was not disappointed with the chicken Pho. Just what my stomach needed. Loved the simple flavours and tasty broth.

For a consistently reliable late night coffee and cake cafe option, Cafe Cezanne in Three Lamps end of Ponsonby is a trusted go-to. They are very well known for their delectable home made cakes that adorn the food cabinets, so much so, that the a dilemma always arises when trying to decide on what cake to choose so it’s always an advantage to visit in small groups of 2 to 4 people so you can share! I adore their soy latte bowls and have recently enjoyed their Black Forest chocolate gateau served with fresh whipped cream! The staff is always so hospitable and engaging and the food options on the menu or in the cabinet, is always delicious and not to mention reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
Adrian Lauron
Food is great and in generous servings. The Black Forest Gateau is superb! One thing to note though is the size of the leaves in the salad - it is quite big that it can be a challenge to eat them. Nonetheless a good experience and definitely will come back.
Sérgio Dantas
I ordered cappuccino and an anzac caramel slice. Coffee wasn't great. A bit milky for a cafe located in Ponsonby. The slice was fresh and delicious. In my opinion staff could be more welcoming but it was ok. Place looks tired...maybe a renovation would turn the place into a cozy welcoming spot.

Great service. Met with a smile. I one here when visiting Auckland. Hearty food great coffee.

Beautiful Bún Rieu soup. Friendly staffs. Definitely will come back again

The guy with the mullet and moustache was so kind. His customer service skills were excellent and I highly commend him for his professionalism in resolving a misunderstanding. Otherwise food was great and the hot chocolate was the best I've ever had. Thanks for providing a warm and hearty dining experience! Will definitely be back again. Compliments to the chef and the rest of the staff.

Hello ! It's winter ! Buy a heater it's not that hard. Food no matter how good it is not enjoyable when you're freezing. Might come back in summer. Great friendly staff apologized for the fridge feel.
Monica Trussel
I was so so disappointed with my lasagna it was basically a slop. The pasta non existent was so over cooked by several weeks! not spicy as it was stated. Basic prison slop. I'm sorry this is not good enough!
Chantal Thornton
Beautiful place wonderful food great service would come again..
Florence Lepdor
Poor service, oily food, please choose a better place to have dinner.
Majid Bayat
Unexpectedly wonderful .we sort of end up going there we weren’t sure how is gonna be but it more what we expected food was excellent
Chris Nolan
I’ve been going here for 30 years, even my kids love it, see you guys in a couple of weeks.

Great risotto, great service, lovely staff. Not much open on a Monday night so I appreciated they were open.

To avoid at all cost. Very Rude, and despite the fact you order food and multiple cafe, after a while, the owner will ask you to leave , as he cannot make money if you stay at the table for too long ! Literally! Also food was under average and badly made. Go to the next breakfast places, but do yourself a favor, avoid this one at all cost!
Ronald Heyl
Delicious fish and chips! Wonderful service and a cool trendy vibe
Jacob Clark
This is the first place my girlfriend and I went to when I visited New Zealand. The food there was excellent, even though I ordered only one dish every time we went, it was, however, the best! I will always remember this little Cafe and how amazing it was. I loved it and will be back there first thing when I make a trip back to New Zealand!
David Shumaker
Nice atmosphere, wonderful lasagna, deserts & coffee.
Cathy Ah Chong
I've come here a handful of times, and the food/coffee has always been excellent. Great service too...thank you to the lady that put my order on the tab yesterday, after the eftpos wasn't working :) I made sure to pay you promptly.
Fiona Samuels
Loved the friendly staff. Great coffee. Perfect people watching spot.
Khoi Nguyen
Great oldskool style cafe<br/>A spot for all the traditional goodness baking, bites and wind down after a sunny shopping day
Stacey
The cakes are amazing. Very rich and decadent, so they’re perfect when you feel like something a little naughty for dessert.
Helena Clements
The nachos were nice - not amazing but they filled the gap. What i did like is that they do BYO so it was a nice day to sit at an outside table and enjoy the weather.
June Bartlett
The cabinet food was horrendous. Bought caramel chocolate slice. The base was so hard, dry, stale it bent the fork at first attempt. I took it back with a laugh and smile and asked for replacement. Opted for GF orange and seed cake. Had to pay $3 extra. It couldn't have been much drier! Two hours later it feels like I've eaten a brick. None of this stuff had been made today. I swear it had been in fridge since last Friday. Today's Monday. Coffee was bearable. Never again!
Dom St Cartmail
Would give a higher rating but every time I came during the winter it’s really COLD , it’s a shame they are too stingy to provide a warm environment to eat in . Staff aren’t very friendly either and it’s not cheap to to lunch here .It used to be more friendly , perhaps it’s new ownership .
Kate Lauren
Long time customer and at one point a regular. Great cakes and awesome sizes on coffee and hot chocolate! And the baristas are always lovely. Always smiling

Staff/service: 3/5<br/>Venue: 3/5<br/>Price/portion: 4/5<br/><br/>Cafe Cezanne used to be our to go to place for pies. We love their Guinness and steak pie. And their egg Benedict portions is huge with 3 poached eggs! We have stop visiting this place as since the change of ownership to new owners, as the quality of the pies has dropped. Also everyone my husband is having a hard time to communicate with the Asian cashier on our orders.<br/><br/>Join Zomato Gold and get 1+1 on food or 2+2 on drinks. This place is the exact opposite of most dining establishments in Ponsonby - not really posh or trendy, and that's exactly why I love it.<br/><br/>Very laid-back atmosphere with cool murals and seating either inside or outside (nice to be able to watch the world go by when you have your lunch or dinner). The staff are amazingly friendly and really welcoming - many thanks for always being like this.<br/><br/>The food is incredible, service is usually very fast and overall it's great value for money. Some of my favourites from the starters menu include nachos and also salt and pepper squid. As for the mains, I can fully recommend mexican quessadilla (delicious), cezanne burger or just a good old classic - fish and chips. There's plenty of other options available on the menu apart from that and if you feel like you're up for a challenge, try their 500g (sic!) mega steak!<br/><br/>If all of that still leaves you hungry, Cezanne have an exceptional choice of divine cakes for dessert. Try their New York baked cheesecake or the carrot cake and you won't regret it.<br/><br/>One of my favourites in Ponsonby and always a pleasure to come back to.

This place isn't one of those "insta-worthy" or "super trendy" spots - and that's why I love it. Cafe Cezanne serves up delicious, honest food at a generous portion for what you pay. The atmosphere is unpretentious, the staff are friendly, coffee is always great and the array of cabinet food is extensive!
Rochelle Holland
Came here on a Saturday afternoon. Staff are friendly and the cafe itself is spacious with cool decor. We had a couple of salads- mine was a Thai beef with crunchy noodles. Salad was super fresh and tasty. We also had a New York backed cheesecake which was really nice. Would come back based on our experience.
Dani
Not your regular eggs benny as they not only give you 2 but 3 poached eggs! This was super filling that I ended up sharing it with someone else :) Potatoes were crunchy and I like how they gave extra bread as it made it into a perfect meal for 2. Cool vibes and the extravagant but traditional paintings contribute well to the whole cafe ambiance.
Pradashnee Odiar
Great food and excellent service. Ideally located and an eclectic setup. The freshly baked lasagne, cookies and cakes were well presented. I liked the fact that this Cafe was unique in its presentation of fresh and delish ingredients.

Came for dinner as recommended by a friend, the decoration was not impressed at first but the atmosphere was comfortable, even when filled with customers the shop is still like a silent/peaceful corner on the noisy Ponsonby Rd. The staffs are friendly and cool. My friend order a banana smoothies but want extra chocolate and they made it as per order with just a small charge and it tasted delicous. The food is is big and good at its price. In general, we would like to come back 😊
Lucykim0626
Great coffee and dessert. We would love to revisit for a meal. <br/>Staff were friendly and vibrant. <br/>You can experience real Ponsonby atmosphere. <br/>

Got a late lunch here, I ordered the cezanne Caesar salad and a mocha. The salad was humongous but it was pretty disappointing when I tried it. It didn’t taste like a Caesar salad at all and they didn’t even chop up the lettuce.... there were literally leaves of lettuce on my plate underneath the bread. I understand that they tried to personalise the Caesar salad but it just did not work for me at all. Everyone else sitting around me were ordering cakes and muffins so maybe that’s what they are known for.
Amanda
Came here last night because of my friend’s recommendation. The place was easy to spot, not hard to find parking spot, and the food was great with a good portion. The staff were supeeer friendly and helpful. Bought the cake to office and everyone loves it! I think I’ll come again sooner than I thought. The lasagna and most of the cake are awesome 😀.<br/>Too bad tbh when the bathroom is not very clean.

Stopped here for lunch after having not been here for years! Same look and feel as always for a great little casual spot in the heart of three lamps. It can get a bit hot, so a window table or outside is always the ideal. I had the chicken livers with cream and masala sauce and I really enjoyed it. Large serving but the liver was cooked perfectly. Garlic bread was scrumptious. The service was very friendly albeit a bit slow. The food was worth the wait.

An old favourite after a night with a few drinks - We go there for supper and the meals are nice - Its wreaks an of Old time atmosphere and the food is exception even if its something light. Great Prices and Great Staff - Very Friendly environment Thanks  Ted

I love the vibe at this place, the food is great, the servers are friendly and the atmosphere is peaceful and inviting. My mother and I love going here their food is well-portioned and tastes great, although the last time I was there I ordered a salad to go which was a huge disappointment. The salad didn't reach half the container it was in and could be eaten with a few small mouth fulls, I contacted them later and sent them a picture, they were super sorrowful and explained that they had a new chef and offered to make the salad again for me when I was next in. <br/>I am still going to go back because other than that one time I have always been super happy with my food, and would still recommend to others.
Keith Armstrong
Used to be a good cafe and it's still got a relaxed friendly vibe. The serving staff are nice but it's let down by the food which has small portions and is tasteless..I won't be back
Anna Naesmyth
Fantastic service every time! My favourite is their calamari but the deserts and cakes are to die for! I always have a hard time choosing between the tirimisu and the raspberry and chocolate cake...but today I didn't have to... they gave me a small piece of each for the price of one and I had best of both worlds!
Kelly
Not terrible, but not great either. I think the food and drinks were more bad than good. I had the pork belly with kumera mash and veg. The boiled cauli and beans were bland and the supposed-to-be-"crispy" crackling was leathery. The jus was good though. My friend had the risotto, which was way too salty and very heavy with the cream; generally unpleasant, but not offensive. I had the "R18", a baileys smoothie (?) which was not impressive either. However, as cute as the vintage indie theme of this place is, I wouldn't go back for another main. Maybe a good place to chill in Ponsonby with a regular coffee and some fries.
Samuel Williams
I don't have a picture for you, but I had the eggs Benedict with bacon which is my favourite and staple breakfast dish (although prefer ham of the bone if available). Jen ordered the same but with salmon.<br/><br/>Both of us loved it. When it came out I couldn't believe the serving! 3 poached eggs, lashings of bacon on 2 English muffins, fried potatoes and 2 buttered toasts.<br/><br/>It was the biggest serving of breakfast I've ever had hands down aaand it was delicious! <br/><br/>The salmon was a little salty but that was the only slightly inconvenient thing, everything else far outweighed that and the staff were very accommodating!<br/><br/>Highly recommend for breakfast!

Havent been here for some time and we werent disappointed. The ladies had Salt and pepper squid and my lady the Chicken livers. both said perfect. In fact the squid was only surpassed by a cafe in Melbourne. My fish N Chips was not too bad but none of the salads had tomato. Nicks Eggs Bene was fine. The hostess was her usual friendly self..
Kerryj
I was a regular here back in the early 1990s when I lived nearby but since moving out to the burbs I haven't been that often. Today I called in for a coffee and brunch. Decided to order the Mexican Breakfast as a change from the usual omelettes and eggs benedict. It was a great choice though too much on the plate for a normal person to get through. My latte came in a bowl and I didn't think I'd get through it but I did, it was good too.
Barb&Ted
First time today by chance. <br/>Friendly service, homely food prepared well and really big portions!😆<br/>If your feeling like a really home cooked meal with good flavours this is the place to go to.<br/>Quirky little cafe in Ponsonby, with good coffee and great menu choice!<br/>Will be back again !
Rico Chen
Here for the lunch special. BBQ ribs are cooked perfectly. The lunch price is very reasonable for Ponsonby. Will come very often! Awesome wall painting too
Diogo Reck
Nice place in ponsonby. I liked the environment, the service, and the coffee is very good.<br/><br/>Good to go for a drink (they have a lot of options if you like some wine or spirits) and chat with friends.<br/><br/>Their lasagna is quite good, but far from spicy, as the menu says.
Kieran
I don't eat eggs.  Can't stand 'em.   Going out for Brunch for me generally means I turn into "one of those" customers where I order from the menu then request to alter the dish, the alteration is generally, "no eggs, extra ................  please?"  Sometimes the request is obliged with a smile, sometimes it's met with a response of "that will be an extra $2.50".<br/><br/>At Cafe Cezanne, they have 2 types of Big Breakfast, Kiwi styled and English styled.  I requested the Kiwi styled breakfast, sans eggs, but also requested if I could have the Bubble & Squeak from the English styled breakfast, this cost me an extra $2.50.  <br/><br/>I really should have been more specific, what was brought out to me was a breakfast that was at least 70% carbs, they served me the Bubble & Squeak as well as the Fried Potatoes, a big thick slice of Focaccia bread, topped with 2 more slices of buttered toast.  Overkill.  With this came some very dry, overcooked bacon, mushrooms, fried toms and a cheese kransky.  Everything under seasoned and underwhelming.  :(<br/><br/>On the bright side, the hot chocolate was damn good!

I came here with my sister for lunch, I absolutely love the setting with old wooden furniture & centre pieces on tables. <br/><br/>I ordered the Cajun chicken salad I think it was called. It was okay but not overly tasty. <br/>I didn't enjoy all the components of the dish. I liked the presentation though, definitely didn't look like a salad. <br/><br/>The prices are a tad expensive as well
Miss Kiki
I haven't been here for years and thought we would have a look to see if they still have a delicious range of cakes. <br/>We dined with my sister who was having dinner and we were having cake.<br/>We ordered the banoffee pie and a slice of the kumara, pineapple and coconut cake. My sister ordered their special of pork belly on kumara mash. I was lucky enough to have a taste of everything. The kumara and pineapple cake was out of this world, very very dense and moist. The banoffee pie was good too, I am not a huge fan of banana and I didn't choose ot so for me it's as good as a banoffee pie can be. The pork belly was amazing too. Perfectly cooked. Crispy skin which you can chew and doesn't break your teeth. I was pleasantly surprised. <br/>I will most definitely be back for the kumara and pineapple cake!

I used to work here several years ago so I had to visit when I returned to Auckland 6 years later. I had the savoury mince with a poached egg which is a massive meal. A struggle to finish. I like how the cafe now has three separate menus; the normal menu, a vegetarian menu, and a gluten free menu. My favourite things are still the Afghan cookies!
Julie Pulie
Love this place. Unpretentious, cozy, and with amazing cakes. It's not high dining and the meals have a sense of home-made-ness. Coffee is decent, but most importantly the service and baking is fantastic! Always a great selection of home-made cakes. I've also had the pie from the menu a few times- huge portion and very very tasty.
Christian
I love the rustic feel of this place. We usually come to this place to grab a piece of their moist cakes (do try their massive Black Forest cakes), but I also enjoyed their dinner dishes- hearty, big and tasty. Very good value here.
Jhk
What a strange (in a good way) place it is. You will be suprised by two things from this cafe - huge surreal painting on the wall and tasty dishes. They serve very rich and heavy dishes so i would recommend this cafe during winter season.

Went for a walk down Ponsonby Road and decided to give this cafe a try. The service was absolutely lovely and hospitable. Ambiance was casual.<br/><br/>They had quite a varied menu which I appreciated. I saw chicken livers on the menu and thought i'd be courageous and give it a try. Glad I did because it was deliciously cooked, rich and flavoursome. <br/><br/>Coffee is not bad either.<br/>Quite a few cakes and desserts on display too. Pretty good dining experience overall! Great find!
Sophie Batten
I have been coming here for years! I always remember it as the place with the best portion sizes! I come here knowing that I will be full when I leave! <br/><br/>Last time had vegetarian nachos- just got the small one and still struggled to eat it all!!<br/><br/>I love this place and will keep coming :)
Emmanuel Beaufils
Went there for breakfast, and found the food under average. Sure it is cheaper than the other ponsonby place, however the pancakes were very cheaply made, and terribly untasty. On top of you go there for chilling with your computer or enjoying a nice book (what cafes are for) despite you take conitnuous coffee, the owner will tell you to go ! Literally. Will never go back there again, and dizengof or bambina are way better and nicer / friendly options just next door
Richard J
Went there last night <br/>Was fun and the food was great <br/>Tastes are good <br/>Service excellent and staff very nice a great casual place to visit<br/>
Live2Eat
Great quality food and value for money. Tried the spicy chicken breast burger and thai chicken curry. The curry lived upto the expectations but the burger exceeded. Generous fillings and i enjoyed the side salad and potatoes instead of fries. The chicken wasn't spicy at all but nonetheless great burger. Would have given 5/5 if the foh staff was interactive.
Joy Maralit
been here a few times.. lovely staff and food was algood. Good afternoon tea spot.. love the selection of cheesecakes and jumbo coffee option is available:)

After 16 years of calling Cezzane my favourite place to eat and be merry there is not a lot else to say! I have seen many owners come an go, the service has always remained amazing, the service great! Please don't change the paintings anymore tho! This is a cafe Cezzane himself would be proud of . It's a sanctuary for me - it is by far my most favourite place in the world
Kezia Lynch
Love it here! Easily one of my favourite cafes to just chill at given the super relaxed atmosphere and vibe and lovely staff and great service. <br/>When just grabbing a quick bite or something to takeaway I tend to go for an iced or hot chocolate (depending on season) and a muffin - both of which are always some of the best I've had. If here for breakfast, their egg cooking is egg-cellent so would highly recommend. Everything is really reasonably priced given large portion sizes. <br/>Would highly recommend to others and will continue to return
Howard Taylor
Sorry Moodie<br/>Have to disagree - the eggs bene is delish <br/>Enormous & reasonably priced <br/>Coffee is still great- highly recommended:)<br/>And staff are awesome!!
Moodyfoodie
Not very impressed. Have been going to this cafe on and off for the past ten years and i have to say the quality of the food has gone down. The only saving grace was the mocha that i ordered was delish! I ordered the salmon eggs benny. Firstly it was quite expensive $21-$22 - granted you get 3 eggs but they are small and the hollandaise was added very sparingly. For the cost i would've expected more hollandaise and a tastier overall dish. I felt the food was missing something and after paying this im not sure i would go back for breakfast again - only coffee. My son ordered the chicken and leak pie which was pleasant however ... Priced at $9.50!!!!! Menu and possibly the chef need to be looked at
WeiTing Ashley Shyu
I've had a salad from this place before. It's quite different and stands out on in Ponsonby. It has quite an arty, retro vibe that I love. The Caesar salad that I ordered wasn't exactly the prettiest thing.... I'm not complaining though, because the portion sizes were huge. The salad was pretty good! The menu was nice but a little overpriced.
Louise MacNaughton
Love the cakes here! Never ever disappointed. Gorgeous place to come for an evening cake date. As a bonus their coffee is amazing and everything I've ever ordered off the menu is always on point, especially chicken Caesar salad and eggs benedict! One of my favourite places!
DarkSister
Love the atmosphere at this place. I started going here when I was 9years old and have always got a massive hot choccy with a giant muffin to accompany it. I cannot comment on much else but they used to have tripe which was amazing if your into that kind of thing. Go along if your into a funky little Bohemian type of setting.
Seamus M.
Love their food here! They really stack your plates for the worth of your money spent. I've actually been to Cezaane three times. One for a huge lunch with a friend, we ordered burgers, Mexican pizza (forgot how to spell it), fries, drinks, and something else... It was a big order. <br/>Came for coffee, yum and then again for a hot chocolate and a slice (which is the only picture I got 😥) <br/>Its worth coming here. Staff are quite nice too. Bit a regular but would definitely visit when in the area.
Kelly
Food 4.0<br/>Value 2.5<br/>Service 3.0<br/>Atmosphere 3.5<br/><br/>Ordered special of the day, pepper squid (16 dollars), its well presented and nice flavor, usually I don't like oily and heavy stuffs very much (apart from KFC). but the squid works very well with the dipping sauce :).  and I glanced around, curious of what other people ordered. I was surprised by all the other food, the plating were just like the dishes you have in a fine dining restaurant. The style of the restaurant is quite exotic, walls were painted with God that appears in Norse mythology if I remember it right or something else. :) its a nice place to hang out with friend.

I came here late one night with a friend to catch up, after hearing rave reviews about Café Cezanne. If you didn't know the place was Auckland-renown, you wouldn't know from its décor. The place feels old, and at times tired. However that out of the way, the food and coffee are very good indeed - the menu isn't as adventurous as I'd like, but I was impressed with the quality of the food (it definitely makes the place seem a bit brighter). Service was somewhat subdued, but this is a café that has stood the test of time, both over the years and the hours of that long day. Would visit again during the day, to see it in the light.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Grungy and imperfect with bright painted walls and old furniture, Cezanne is a Ponsonby institution that has stood firm while many cafes have closed around them over the years. The cosy atmosphere couldn't stop the cafe from feeling chilly tonight especially with the entrance door wide open!<br/><br/>FOOD: Cezanne has a straightforward menu with counter top options too. Tonight I settled for the beef nachos and whilst the cheese was perfectly melted and the chips generous, a bit more meat would've been appreciated. <br/><br/>COFFEE: My flat white was a little weak but smooth in flavour. <br/><br/>SERVICE: Quick, friendly and inoffensive. <br/><br/>Cezanne has never tried to be something it's not its grungy, down-to-earth approach set it apart from the eateries that beckon for the 'hip crowd'. <br/><br/>Yeah it's not perfect, but it's like the trusty friend you can always rely on.
Melissa Rouse
I'd been here for a coffee a few years ago and was in the area so thought I'd pop in and see what they had for lunch. I'm a coeliac (gluten free) so was delighted to see that they have a dedicated gluten free menu as well as cakes and other things in the cabinet.  Also, was told if it's on the gluten free menu, it's gluten free regardless (you don't have to specially ask for it to be gluten free). Really impressed with their service and attitude, despite being really busy. We had the chicken nachos which were amazingly yummy as well as their chocolate mousse cake. Amazing food, friendly staff and yeah really impressed!
LucyGoosey
I had a really nice dinner here on Saturday night. I ordered the salmon fettuccine which came with garlic bread (honestly, what more could a person want?) and it was delicious! The pasta was ever so slightly underdone and I do like my pasta to be el dente. I enjoyed the other ingredients in the dish, the salmon was perfectly cooked and the capers and sundried tomatoes were an excellent flavor combination. The garlic bread was amazing!! My friend ordered the steak medium-rare. It was rare as can be. I would have enjoyed it that rare but it wasn't cooked to her liking. Her dish was nice enough but over-priced and a bit uninspired. When your paying $32 for a steak, you expect it to be cooked to your liking. The staff here are friendly and relaxed and the café has a pleasant atmosphere. The fortune chocolates were a cute touch. I would come back here for the pasta dish, or for coffee and cake.

Just casually walking down Ponsonby road and noticed this cafe so decided to try it. Good decision. Great food and lovely staff.. Helpful and friendly. Will definitely return..
Sungsam7
We visit regularly and have tried most of the menu ?? the meals are good sized, its real food, the staff are friendly, the coffee on point...we love the unpretentious feel of the place. Week nights when I'm feeling like a sugar hit Cafe Cezanne never fails to disappoint. Reasonably priced for location also. Plenty of parking around too.
Adline Shandil
Went here with my sister. I ordered calamari and it tasted blant. The staff didn't seem to care about paying customers waiting for their order. Laughing away making your own jokes isn't good customer service especially if the customer is sitting close to the counter.
Aspiring Foodie
Still one of my favourite spots! Good portions with good flavour and just a nice casual vibe to it. Pretty reasonable vege options as well. Definitely recommend
Anna Hinehou
Went to Cafe Cezanne for a quick and easy bite to eat with a friend.<br/>I ordered the Spicy Chicken burger which was delicious. It had very generous salad fillings and a very decent wedge of avocado, as well as salad and potatoes on the side.<br/>Followed up by a chocolate crackle - great for reminiscing of childhood birthday parties.<br/>Great, prompt service as well.
Erin Hall
Beautiful cakes. Great coffee. Interesting Eggs Benedict.. I really like the atmosphere and would consider Cezannes one of my favourite cafe's
Tami T
I used to come here often 3 years ago :-) I stopped coming because I could sense a change. It still has that great walk-in-anytime feel, however, the quality of the food has taken a bit of a plunge. Definitely not what it used to be, unfortunately.

It is without a surprise that Cezanne Café in Ponsonby has raving reviews from 108 patrons! I had the pleasure to visit Cezanne after 7 years, on my recent visit back home to Auckland from abroad, and simply put ... remains one of the best cafes in NZ, and perhaps the world! Thank you for continuing to be an establishment that shapes the local Ponsonby  community and reflecting the true kiwi spirit. :)
Steve Harvie
We occasionally come here on the weekends and I would confidently say you would be looking hard to find a better coffee in Auckland. Cezanne's weekend baristas really know great coffee. Lots of choices for food too if you're hungry.

I had previously been introduced to the Cezanne by a business acquaintance, but on Saturday my wife and I popped in for lunch for the first time. We had one of the best lunches we had ever enjoyed. The menu was varied and full, and for once offered, and delivered on our plates meals of real taste and flavour - so many, even up-market establishments can only manage plastic run-of-the-mill offerings but not the Cezanne.<br/><br/>But it wasn't only the food that impressed but the décor, atmosphere, the welcome by the owner who personally took us through the 'specials' for the day, and indeed the happy faces and welcome from all the staff.<br/><br/>We'll be going back again, and that's for sure.<br/><br/>Mary and Steve M

We came here for a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. We ordered chai lattes and couldn't fit in any cake afterwards because they are literally served in bowls. <br/>I had a sweet chai and it was amazing. Probably one of the best chai lattes I've had in Auckland really. The size is fantastic, definitely worth the price. <br/>I really liked the atmosphere at the cafe with beautiful murals on the walls and beautiful ornaments all over the place. The cafe wasn't too busy even though it was peak dinner time but if it was, there were some lovely seating options outside for when the weather is warmer. The staff were friendly and polite and the cakes in the display case were mouth watering. The portions were sizeable and well priced. <br/>I've heard fantastic things about their dinners as well so we'll definitely be going back to try something else.

Every time I come to Cezanne I'm always pleased. <br/>Usually the visit consists of a late-night coffee / chai and sharing a piece of one of their delicious cakes. They've always got a great selection of cakes, muffins and scones available at the counter, but they also have a full menu and kitchen. I've had dinner here before a long time ago, and remember the nachos being -again- consistently good.

Went here the other day with about four other regulars who swear by this place. With their positive recommendations in mind, I was feeling excited to try the French toast. Looking around at other tables, the meals looked promising, large servings, presented well. The atmosphere was definitely rustic, with colourfully decorated walls and waitresses wearing sparkly hats. However, quantity does not equal quality and I was rather disappointed with my egg-soaked, stale tasting baguettes, one greasy rasher of bacon and banana which had been fried in what tasted like the same bacon fat. The berry jus sounded more exotic than it actually was. It seemed like they’d defrosted some mixed berries – there were cranberries… that was kind of off putting. This might sound okay to some, but I wasn’t fond. My Aunty ordered the corn fritters, and I definitely had dish envy! They were light (not dense) and tasty – perfectly seasoned… I wished I’d ordered those. The omelettes also looked tasty, a yummy mass of egg, spinach and lots of cheese. Coffees were okay, not much else to say about those. Overall, I was not ‘converted’ to loving this café and I wouldn’t choose to return.

An old favourite, I've been going to Cezanne since the 1990's and it's as wonderful now as it was back then. You won't find boring white walls and uniform-like surroundings in this cafe, it's totally unique with rustic charm, European murals and an unpretentious atmosphere. Fantastic food, generous portions, the menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. The staff are always friendly and the service is excellent! Overall a fantastic café that has stood the test of time.

Had a great time here. It was a sunday night I came in and I remember the girls being really friendly and polite. Funny as well! Coffe was exemplary. Will be back for sure.

I only went here because a friend Amanduh La, was performing on Pride Parade day. What I found was a new cafe that I will visit when I'm in Ponsonby from now on. What a great atmosphere. The service was fantastic! And they handled the massive crowd building outside the cafe very well. Thank you for the great hospitality &amp; wine :-) See you soon.

Everything is big and everything is yummy!!! That's it!<br/>Loved the beef burger, French toast, nachos and those Mexican dishes too!!! <br/>You will also get a large bowl of Mocha when you pay for a normal size!

I love this cafe, its atmosphere is welcoming and the staff are kind and sociable. The service is exceptional, however the food is the icing of the cake, very tasty and is worth your money. I would recommend this cafe to everyone that enjoys spending their money on places that are worth it. They also have designated smoking tables just outside the door, for customers who enjoy having a cigarette with their coffee.

After reading "Melani's" review on the 25th of August, we went to Cezanne and had the Egg's Beni. this very morning, 1st of September-13<br/>3 Eggs done perfectly with Salmon.<br/>Really Yum, if anything, to much for me, I couldn't finish it all.<br/>The Coffee was good too.<br/>5 Stars for sure.

Cafe Cezanne....What can I say???? Not only does it serve the best coffee in Ponsonby ...the Salmon Eggs Bene is to die for!!!!! My partner and I have been coming to Cezanne for the last twenty years - we've seen owners come and go, staff turnovers galore. Yet...it still remains our favourite coffee haunt. Although we don't consider ourselves coffee snobs, this says a lot about the consistency of just plain good coffee Cezanne-style. The ambience of the cafe, is like putting on your old favourite jersey. The friendly team always striving to please. Great menu and yummy fresh muffins and cakes....but getting back to the Eggs Bene....As avid trampers, after multi-day tramps on NZ's three islands our favourite meal the next day is a piping hot eggs bene! Needless to say we've tried eggs bene all over NZ but none tops Cezanne's. The deliciously decadent hollandaise sauce oozing over the perfectly poached three eggs and generous slices of salmon..with the tasty extras of herbed fried potatoes and 2 slices of toast are just the best. Al &amp; Mel.

Went today for lunch and had superb service. Hot coffee and a very large lunch serving which I could not finish. We were even shown a new dinner menu and will definately be visiting again soon. The menu is extensive and caters for all. Looking forward to visiting again soon.

im an everyday regular at Cezanne's which is the BEST café in Auckland! the food is always yummy, its such a cool place, with the art and flying pigs! but best of all are the super friendly, smiley staff :) its like a big coffee family!!

I went to Café Cezanne for some time for myself. I was seated in a friendly professional way and asked if I would like something to drink. My response was to order a flat white. My coffee duly arrived along with a menu by a smiling waitress. I perused the vast array of dishes on the breakfast menu whilst enjoying my flat white. I decided to have the Chicken livers with garlic toast. The smiling waitress explained to me all the current specials then took my order. My meal was promptly served by the same smiling waitress. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, the service and the ambiance of Café Cezanne and have recommended it to my friends.

I haven't been to Cafe Cezanne for over 10 years but was pleased to see it is still a popular place to eat. I had the Salmon Fillet with the Apricot Salsa which was delicious. The others in my group enjoyed their meals although the Duck Breast was a very small portion. The Bailey and Brownie cheesecake I had for dessert was a little bland but the coffee was excellent. Overall a reasonably priced meal with BYO making it affordable and good service so will be meeting up with friends for a relaxed evening there again :-)

Today was my 21st birthday and to celebrate my family took me to Cafe Cezanne and what started of as a good experience quickly went down hill when our food arrived. While my boyfriend, sister and brother all got a great meal (kudos to the open steak sandwich and corn fritters), my dad, mum and I mistakenly ordered the calamari salad. The calamari was ice cold and didn't taste fresh or nice for that matter. And the pile of lettuce had no flavour despite a watery curry yoghurt dressing. We aren't picky eaters at all but it was very unpleasant to eat. When asked how our meals were we decided to be honest and say "not great, the calamari seems very cold and tastes old" . The owner then comes out and begins to tell us that no one has ever complained before, challenges our judgement of the meal even though we are paying customers and that he watched it being served piping hot. Then I ask "well why was it stone cold and rubbery?" He then contradicts himself by saying "well you can't exactly serve piping hot food onto a cold salad so that is why it is cold". Dude! If you had just offered to recook our calamari instead of blaming us for complaining it would have been a good experience. Instead you said "well I am sorry you feel that way" and walked off. We then had to deal with your glares and could hear a chorus of "Cold and old... What are they taking about?" from behind the counter...Why can't you just accept that the meal was not pleasurable for us? Why were you so rude to us? Your other food was good, your waitress was lovely - it was just your rudeness and the chefs who made those calamari salads that made the experience disappointing. It was a bad way to spend my birthday being blamed for not enjoying your food. We will not dine here again based on your treatment of us and your inability to take on criticism and remedy the situation positively. Please don't bother commenting back - we were given enough of an earful today. I just want to warn other customers about this potential treatment.

We have been looking for a place to go for a dinner, and decided to visit this cafe.<br/><br/>After thinking what to order, we decided, and I placed my order at the counter. But by some accident waitress didn't hear me properly, or my accent was so horrible (even I pointed with my finger on particular food name in the menu) after maybe 20 minutes I got my Scotch Fillet Steak which was done pretty good (I do love medium rare) and all the extras like sauce and potato were pretty nice, but my partner ordered Salmon Fillet and she's got some kind of pasta, and we had to ask to change food and wait for another 7-10 mins, even though her order was re-placed without the queue.<br/><br/>Steak was pretty soft and nice.<br/>However, salmon fillet was too oily and taste wasn't as good as we've expected.<br/><br/>We tried this new cafe and probably won't go back, as it wasn't as good as we would expect it to be.<br/><br/>Interesting interior, and friendly staff. Nevertheless, the appearance of the staff left a negative image. I would expect a bit more coverage of the body from a person who is at work than what I have seen.

The one place I bother to carry a coffee card for! Consistently friendly service, good coffee, good cafe food, great location (near city, easy parking, all amenities near by - bank, PO, chemist etc), perfect casual place to meet friends. I often a stop here to plan, gather my thoughts and re-energise before the next meeting/appointment etc. Open from early until late.

I haven't been to this cafe for a while, but after visiting some great cafe's in the area of recent times - I've sort of fallen out of love with this one.<br/><br/>The food is reasonably good, and served quickly - but I found everything a bit pricey... I paid about $19 for an omelette, and really that's verging on dinner/main meal pricing, most other items on the menu were also on the pricey side.<br/><br/>In addition to the pricing, this cafe still applies the 15% surcharge - which is pretty disappointing given the additional custom cafe's typically get on public holidays, which would cover a fair amount of the cost I would have thought - but I don't run a cafe.. irrespective, many cafes have moved away from surcharges now...<br/><br/>It would be nice to see this place upgraded as well - as is a little dark.<br/><br/>Not a bad cafe, but there are better around.

I popped into Cafe Cezanne for a morning coffee and was also tempted by the gorgeous cakes and muffins on offer. The Chocolate Brownie was excellent, as was the coffee. The young lady who served me was very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is really great, no cold steel and glass, a much more friendly and cosy decor of wood and interesting art work. Will definitely come again!

On a Monday needing a late lunch I suggested to my friend we go to Cafe Cezanne as I had not been for a while.<br/>Greeted warmly and an explanation of menus-which were availiable and left to decide on what to eat- very helpful.<br/>Deciding on Potato and Watercress soup with garlic bread and a small Chicken Nachos to share with 2 coffees we decided to stay indoors in the warm and tidy cafe. We recieved a btle of chilled water and waited for our food.<br/>when the soup, nachos and coffee arrived we tucked in and the soup was delicious with fresh garlic bread and was very substantial. <br/>Our host stopped by to check everything was in order and was pleasant and polite.<br/>The chicken Nachos topped with sour cream was an ample portion and very tasty which we both took turns till the bowl was empty. The coffee was served promptly and even though not very busy we recieved friendly professional service with a smile and genuine care.<br/>We also noted their deicious cakes, slices and muffins were all made on the premises so will def be back to rate their choc brownie<br/>It was so nice to have friendly service from ownwers/staff that appreciate your patronage. Full Marks!

Yesterday was the second time my partner and I have come here for breakfast and I can happily say it's my new favourite cafe in Auckland! Amazing breakfasts, fantastic service and great coffee, you leave feeling happy and very full, with really reasonable prices. Recommended to all!
Katie
I love coming here for my morning coffee. The lovely girl in the mornings is so friendly and fast. I am happy to walk from the other end of Ponsonby Rd for her fantastic service with a chat and smile. Excellent coffee every time also.
Magdalene
I live around the neighborhood so come here often for coffees and always get great service and smiles. But all I really need to say is: <br/><br/>NACHOS!
Clive & Julie
The open hog sandwich and the lasagne we chose yesterday were cooked to perfection. The meals arrived quickly and were so tasty. Generous portions, too.<br/><br/>Next time we will try and find room for some of the very tempting desserts, all made on the premises.<br/><br/>The staff were great, the prices were very reasonable and we went away happy!

I have eaten here on multiple occasions. The coffee is fantastic, the food delicious and good value, but what really makes this cafe special are the staff - consistently friendly and attentive.<br/><br/>Highly recommend.

Loved our lunch there yesterday. Great atmosphere and awesome cakes. Hard to decide. Salads to die for and are huge!!!

I visit this Cafe regularly. I think the team, especially the front line girls, that work here are fantastic creating an awesome atmosphere. To drink coffee and dine in. They are always friendly and polite. <br/><br/>The food is pretty good too. A+++

This is the second time we've eaten here as visitors from London visiting family and friends. My husband had the mega steak, with 3 eggs and slightly curried potatoes, and he is not one to leave food, but it was sooo big he could not finish the potatoes (though he did finish the steak as it was too good to leave!) I had the chicken penne with cream and garlic sauce and it was absolutely divine - and a huge portion served with garlic bread. The owner came and had a chat, and like many NZ places seem to do, there's fresh tap water available in chilled bottles. We love this place!
Steve
8 of us went for a late breakfast on Sunday 19th Feb 2012. Everyone enjoyed their meal - I had the Portobello Mushrooms in a cream sauce on toasted French bread... "unbelievable" - By far the best I've even had. Service was good, although there seemed to be some confusion over who ordered what (bringing stuff to out table that wasn't ours) - no big deal though. The owner interacted with his guests - great stuff - good to see (I might have to become a food critic - sounds like fun). <br/><br/>PS Coffee is as good as the best I've enjoyed!

I had breakfast at Cafe Cezanne Ponsonby Sunday morning 19th Feb. we were all most impressed. It would have been one of the nicest breakfasts I have had out in a long time. I had the full breakfast and it was so enjoyable, and the potato hash was really nice. Wish i had the recipe. <br/>Barb Duff Christchurch

I'm a regular of this cafe, and come to visit along with my friend, hubby or mum whenever we are in the area. I love their salads and coffees and lunch specials are great too. The service is great and we always get asked if everything is going ok with the meal. Can't fault anything..<br/><br/>Really nice coffee, put me off wanting to visit starbucks after a meal like I usually do :-)

The food is so good - &amp; you get heaps which is my favourite part :) The staff and friendly and attentative (but not overly so!) and I find myself returning time and time again for the lovely atmosphere and great food. Best place in Ponsonby if you ask me :)

Not sure again what is all the fuss about with this cafe. With a string of positive reviews one would think this surely is the place to go. But I really beg to differ. This was my first time there and being a regular at a few other cafes in the are, I though I should check it out. My order: a flat white and eggs benedict. Verdict: the coffee was very mediocre and don't have much to say about the benedict. The egg was watery, almost to the extent of the white being uncooked. Not a pleasant experience on a sunny Sunday morning. Will I go back? No, not when there are a handful of really nice once in the proximity.

I haven't been for years to Cafe Cezzane but oh how I had forgotten how wonderful the service and food was. On a cold wet Saturday afternoon we stopped in and were both delighted to see one of our favourites on the menu, chicken livers and lambs fry, not to every ones taste, but these were the best we had, the meal size was perfect as these are quite rich and the sauce divine. The lovely owner and his wife made a point of stopping and talking to us and we complimented them. The service was fantastic. We live in Herald Island Waitakere, we are definitely making the drive back to this wonderful cafe. Keep up the great work and see u soon.

I eat at cafe Cezanne probably once a month. I like the place, I like the slightly sticky kinda grubby atmosphere. It's casual dining where one can be relaxed and just enjoy the food, the company and there's always good people watching to be had. I had the stuffed capsicum on a pea puree and it was great. The service from the blonde nordic looking waitress was very good. One thing I did note however was a few of the desserts in the cabinet had definitely seen better days. Maybe someone needs to keep an eye on that because it was not pretty!

I have been living in Melbourne for 11 years now &amp; always used to go to Cafe Cezanne - now every time I come back it's my first stop. The food is gorgeous, plenty of it &amp; great value for money. I have never had a bad experience - the staff are always lovely.<br/>Love their breakfast &amp; always pop in for dinner when Im in town. Def up there as one of the best along Ponsonby Road
Adie Laurent
The venue is great oozes personality from the furniture to the 'cezanne' wall murals. Sit and be seen dine indoors or on the pavement and contribute to Ponsonby's the place to be.<br/>At Cezanne the food's reasonably priced - tasty - well presented- big servings (not that I need that!!)and the wait staff friendly and efficient. At the top of my cafe dine list. Highly recommended

This cafe is absolutely fabulous, ive been here a few times and their chocolate smoothies are to die for!!! ( wish i could make one just as good!!!!) the service is fantastic and the staff are the friendliest ive ever seen despite what some people say! will definitely be coming back and i recommend it to anyone. even y'all who've said to have a "bad experience" not everyones perfect and people make mistakes, doesnt mean the place is vibrant with vibrant people. everyone try a smoothie!!!!!!

I have never written a review before, but this place has inspired me to do so, we have been to Cafe Cezanne on a number of occasions and every time the food is amazing, the service is friendly and inviting and the coffee fantastic!!! Highly recommend you give this place a try, you will not be disappointed!

After our last great experience we decided to come back. We ordered a plain Salmon and Cream cheese omelette - just like last time only this time it seemed really difficult and the waitress reluctantly went to ask the chef - the omelette arrived with everything on the menu including salmon and cream cheese - not tasty at all and a mission to try and eat as I had to pick through everything else mixed into the omelette. My friend ordered a Soda water which was flat and got "attitude" when she asked for one that had bubbles - surprisingly when she asked the waitress if she was having a bad day she got a shrug and nonchalant...yes... It was obvious she was having a bad day - the surprise was the fact that she's in the service industry and clearly doesn't care if her bad mood affects customers and their experience. One great experience + one shocker - with so many cafes to choose from we won't be taking our chances...Go to Cafe Cezanne if you're feeling lucky

Went to Cezanne this Saturday night with a large group - around twelve of us. The food was fantastic - large portions, affordable, and super tasty! The Lamb broth was hearty and delicious in this cold snap Auckland has experienced. The service was friendly and patient (we took longer than would be ideal to order) and they were accomodating in every way. I never usually write reviews but this cafe is definitely worth a visit - not an ideal setting for a first date but a sure winner to take your mates to. Best time to dine: evenings.

We often go there on Friday night, it is not too busy but got a few people. Food is good, desert is good and coffee is good! The only thing is very cram inside, everything I went there I will get sick - may be the air flow is not good enough but i still go back.Might just go back in summer time that I can seat outside rather than inside. it is a good cafe on Ponsonby road.
Aaron Smart
Great coffee, Great food, Great service. What more could you want?<br/>I have never done a review before, but this place was worth it.<br/>When I'm back up in Auckland, this will be where I'll be hanging.<br/>Awesome!

I love cafe cezanne, my partner an I go almost every sunday and are never disappointed! <br/>Mike wont have eggs beni anywhere else and I am slowly working my way through the menu.....its all yum!<br/>Awesome staff, great food, just a great place to chill out on a weekend!

Cezanne's has been my favourite cafe since 1994. Have taken soooo many friends and family there (only because I KNOW that everyone will enjoy themselves!)I first took my niece there in 1995 (she was 5 years old then). We reintroduced her in 2009: now Miss 21 takes her friends there! When friends and family are in NZ, or if meeting with local friends, Cezanne's is ALWAYS the best pick: and they've all agreed! Here's why: if you're not happy about something, politely tell the staff and they will endeavour to correct it. Personally, I cannot recall any occasion, during the last 17 years of patronage at Cezannes, where I was unsatisfied with the food or drinks, presentation, or service. The food is fantastic; service is second to none; and I appreciate the attention to detail - especially the special coffees in the evening! Great place for a quick catch-up with friends over coffee, or to take some time for yourself (inspiring environment for writing poetry); lunch and dinner too - I often want something added to the dish and they've always catered for me; you have to try the cakes...mmm caramel; and Saturday/Sunday brunches are just as good every other day of the week. So, I'll leave you with a few words uttered by my many friends and family on their first taste at Cezanne's, "Oh, it's so good!"
Karen
There's not enough great words to say about Cafe Cezanne. Having been a loyal and faithful customer of this fine eating establishment since I was 22 (I'm now 36) I hesitate to eat anywhere else -as I'm nearly always disappointed. The Mocha coffee is divine, I've eaten nearly EVERYTHING on the menu and it's all fabulous. The staff are long-standing, the surroundings warm and inviting, cool music, the food always exceptional and the owners are just lovely. <br/><br/>Personal favourites: ***DINNER*** Stuffed chicken breast, Lamb Shanks. ***LUNCH*** Chicken Penne, Cezanne's Mess, Thai Lamb Salad, Bacon and Mushroom Omelet, Savoury mince on Toast .......... I could go on and on and on..... IT'S ALL GOOD - JUST TRY IT!!!!! Having been there nearly every Sunday in the years you've owned it, I'm ashamed to say we've never asked your names :-( My hubby and I are proud to be part of the Cezanne's furniture, long may the FABULOUS food and service continue.<br/><br/>Viva Cafe Cezanne!!!!<br/><br/>Karen and philip XO
Philip
We go there for lunch almost every weekend. The food is always good, staff is always friendly and the owner takes time out to talk to his valued customers to make sure they're happy. We drive from out West to go there. The couple of times we've gone elsewhere, we regretted it and told ourselves we should have gone to Cezanne's! Keep it up guys and see you this weekend!
Trevor Leal
I have just been to Cafe Cezanne for the first time and I know I will be going back. Great atmosphere and space for sitting and watching the world go by. Good no fuss service too! I only had the Cezanne's own take on a Caesar but what a great take on a classic. As I said I have no doubt I will be back very soon even if it's just for that Caesar Salad, but I will definitely be trying some other menu items.
Cam
I am always confused when I go to cafe cezanne because the service is so all over the place! About a month ago a friend and I decided to grab brunch (despite being hesitant about previous experiences) she orded a ham cheese and pineapple toastie and a coffee. after eating maybe a quater of her toastie she realised there was no ham in it..and asked the waitress if she could just chuck a piece in, then the owner came over and stated that "she had eaten over half the toastie and he would give her a stamped coffee card for next time, despite the fact that she had paid for ham! he was abrupt, ridiculous and rude...all for the sake of ham! we will never being going back there.

My wife and i had Brunch here recently and found the staff friendly and helpful. The meals we had were great and reasonably priced. Great place to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere. We will definately be going back.<br/>Gary &amp; Moana

Cafe Cezanne was a disappointment. Service was useless, a miserable waitress kept asking if we wanted drinks, didn't offer us a drink menu just pointed at the bar when we asked what was available. The food was average at best and kids meals were tiny without even a garnish. Oh, and the table was sticky.
Mason A
Cafe Cezanne is an excellent place to stop in to eat; relaxed, friendly and with none of the stuffy holier than thou antics you find at other etablishments. We come all the way from Onehunga for the lambs fry which is cooked to perfection. They are one of the few places which understand that scrambled eggs should be fluffy. We have never had a bad meal yet and the chiefs are always willing to cater to your tastes. We love it here.
Rossi Holloway
I have been here for brunch numerous times and it's always good. Great service, quick, and the meals are generously sized - you definitely get more bang for your buck! Love the cajun chicken salad and the French toast. Highly recommended.
Elaine Percy
We had lunch here last Saturday 30/1/2010. As always the food was great - no complaints in that direction. The muffins are even better than I've previously had. Coffees excellent. Also the Head Chef was very friendly and asked if everything was OK. Appreciate that.<br/>The one complaint I have is that within 3 minutes 3 tramps stopped and asked a customer for a smoke. He kindly rolled one for this person and gave some tobacco to a second to roll himself. One of these tramps actually made herself at home. Your customers in turn left and she moved to their table and scoffed the leftovers.<br/>In the past we have seen similar behaviour.<br/>Now a full paying customer should not have to sit and look at this happening. <br/>Also the staff and owners have been seen at times smoking at the front tables. Do yourself a favour and stop this habit. Doesn't look good and you maybe turning away customers. Something worth thinking about in these tough times.

my friend took me there and i ordered one of there breakfast dishes,it was really really yum,and it made you full and the price was really good for the amount they give you. the staff there are so friendly they make you want to go back, overall its the cafe to eat at!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bevan Chuang
Lovely atmosphere for meetings; staff real friendly!!
Stephanie
I don't know why this cafe has had such good reviews. i went for brunch on a friend's recommendation and ordered a scrambled egg dish. When the dish came it was so coated in garlic butter that I actually couldn't finish it (and I'm not one to turn away food). The service was also extremely sloppy, my friend ordered a second coffee and then forgot about it so we had to remind them, 15 minutes later that it had been ordered. We will not be back.
The Guppy
good value food. very friendly, helpful service.
Andrew
Great place, great atmosphere. Cafe Cezanne has a good selection of food, reasonably priced. The cook breakfasts are great!!
Barbara
We love Cezanne. Its been an icon in the Auckland cafe scene for 20 years, famous for its excellent coffee (try the chocolate chai too)wide range of wine and beers, great menu with a real variety from Thai to Mexican, mains include salmon and crab stuffed chicked breasts to rich slow cooked lamb shanks. Then there is the cakes .. a huge case of maybe 12 to choose, passionfruit cheescake, chocolate whiskey cake, tiramisu, kahlua cheescake, wheat free orange and coconut ... cant remember them all ... add yoghurt or cream or ice cream .. or all three. We were told the new owners took over before Christmas and you can see they have already made huge a difference with the same atmosphere but now its sparkling clean and you can feel the upbeat vibe when you walk in, and a happy friendly team of staff who cant do enough for you. Lots of tourists (its in Lonely Planet we were told) and fun locals and this week when we had lunch there was Robin and the guy (sorry for forgetting your name :-)from Outrageous Fortune.<br/><br/>As somone who moved to Auckland and couldnt find anywhere relaxed and not precious for so long its going to be my new haunt for everything from weekend breakfast to coffee and cake after the movies. Oh and bring your puppy too, they have a big waterbowl outside and hes welcome to sit and enjoy the passers-by at any of the outside tables.
Steve
This cafe does the best breakfast in Auckland and I eat there every Sunday! <br/><br/>If you like a good feed and like to be full after a meal then this is the place.
Jess
Yummy food and great service but the portions are far too big!
Lisa Edgar
Cafe Cezanne is my weekly coffee place due to it's fast service and convenience to work. It uses roasted addiqtion beans but over the years, I've seen a number of baristas come and go. As a result, the quality of coffee can be inconsistent and unpredictable. However, what is predictable is the ridiculously large sized cabinet cakes/foods coffee latte bowls and decent meals. Definitely value for money (I used to nickname this place 'cafe for giants')<br/>Cafe Cezanne opens late and is a great place for a late night dessert run.
